Co-host / Commentator
Great read by you.
Kel Penn
Thank you.
Co-host / Commentator
That was a great read.
Kel Penn
Thank you. Thank you. I. I've done a new thing. This is called growth. I read them before.
Co-host / Commentator
I was gonna say that. You weren't reading anything before.
Kel Penn
Oh, yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Show the growth.
Kel Penn
Keep it down the line, boys. Hey, listen, I read them before because I know how bad I am at reading at the top of things. How we rip.
Co-host / Commentator
You see old man LeBron out there still getting scrappy.
Kel Penn
Oh, you're the LeBron fan.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, I saw this little clip of him getting a steal late in the game. They dished it over to him. He hit the game winning shot or to tie it up to go into ot. I don't even know if they ended up winning the game, but I'm like, oh, LeBron's still out there doing his thing.
Jack
The Lakers and the Rockets played last night and The Rockets won, 115 to 96, I believe.
Kel Penn
Is it over?
Jack
I think this Is a different clip.
Kel Penn
It's not over. Series still going regardless of the results of the game and individual performance still plays.
Jack
He's still. He's still averaging right now, like, 28 points a game, like eight assists. He is, dude, he's four or how
Kel Penn
rodeo is 41, 40 something.
Co-host / Commentator
He threw an oop to Bronnie, too.
Jack
Yeah, he's. He's boxing guys out for Bronnie to get him, getting shots of. There's a clip out there where he's at the top of the key, gives it to Bronnie, and he fully backs
Kel Penn
a guy up, and he's like, shoot it, son. Like, no, he didn't say shoot it, son.
Jack
I mean, you guys,
Kel Penn
a little bit, dude. He's still doing it, though. I know LeBron has had a lot of, like, people, like, you know, very polarizing people. Some people hate him, other people think he's a goat. Like, not a whole lot in between. It's really a ha. But his interview he had, I don't know if it was like, a week ago when he's talking about playing basketball with his son and how cool it is to have your son on the court. I think it's just. It was just awesome. From a dad. From a dad moment, a dad perspective
Co-host / Commentator
in the NBA playoffs with your boy.
Kel Penn
With your boy. And it's like, could you imagine the dynamic? I mean, we'll get to Jeremy Klump and his son and how they played this past weekend. And that's got to be an awesome down there between. Like, you're coaching your kid. But now LeBron, who's essentially been a coach to these NBA players while also
Co-host / Commentator
playing the NBA, stuck around the NBA long enough. Long enough.
Kel Penn
And not even stuck around. Like, dominated.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Like, truly dominated. Whether, you know, we always talk with the. Polarizing this. Polarizing this.
Co-host / Commentator
The guy is the thing, people. Absolutely incredible is just the flopping, which I, I, I get. It's like sometimes it's. It's so dramatic.
Kel Penn
Right? But that's just basketball players in general, dude. They're dramatic cats.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, man. He really takes it to the next level.
Kel Penn
Oh, so right. They want to. He wants to show them. Look how much I'm fighting through for the fans.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. Like, he'd be in the hospital if he had on his body what Klump has on his body.
Kel Penn
Yeah, yeah. Come stuff, boy, though not as tough as Jerry Beeman, but still a very, very tough boy. I.
Co-host / Commentator
You got that out. A couple big updates. We got a completely new setup right now in the bus Shout out Jared Demon. Everybody who is involved in cleaning up the bus. Our table is not present. We're getting a new table.
Kel Penn
Yeah, yeah, allegedly.
Co-host / Commentator
We're looking at this awesome screen in front of us right now.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
What a photo.
Kel Penn
What a photo. And also, I mean, just, just the frame of LeBron, man. Yeah, I know. He's sitting on this specimen and we can look at a couple things and nitpick about what's going on in this photo right here. Yeah, but specimen.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, he's a specimen.
Kel Penn
You of all people love to look at a good specimen.
Co-host / Commentator
I love. I love some good quads. Yeah, you do love a good teardrop. The vmo. Yeah.
Kel Penn
When we first met and you told me that, I thought, I will never make it because of my teardrop quads.
Co-host / Commentator
You got some teardrops? Yeah. It's not starting.
Kel Penn
Yeah, they're just. They're starting.
Co-host / Commentator
Second question. Because you're wearing something right now.
Kel Penn
This right here, you know? Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Why are you wearing the a Michigan man earring?
Kel Penn
Well, our. Our guest this week is none other than Dan Orlovsk. Let's give a round of applause for Dan O. Called his shot. Took a lot of heat in this draft coming up. He was right. Everybody else was wrong. He had a great statement saying, if I'm. If I'm wrong, the system is broken. The system is broken. Truly a bulletproof statement by him. But we had a bet to show off how wrong Dan can be sometimes. It was the national championship, Michigan versus UConn. He went to UConn and he has to wear a dangly Michigan earring. I can tell now it's been, you know, it's been a while since the national championship of basketball took place. Dan is on tv.
Co-host / Commentator
People can. They're going to hear the entire breakdown because he is game in the system. He didn't get in the fine print.
Kel Penn
It's disgusting. Yeah. And it's just like you think about character, you think about integrity. All things that Dan Orlofsky says he stands for. He says he's a man of integrity. But now he loses this bed. He wants to kick the can down the road to the middle of summer and the dead of sports.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. No, you're the one wearing the earring.
Kel Penn
Well, I'm just showing it off because I did. I did go.
Co-host / Commentator
You kind of kicked off the bet like on his behalf.
Kel Penn
Exactly. I did go look up earrings from Michigan. And like, apparently there's not a lot of clip ons going on. So our boy Ryan Nolan, he went out, went to Etsy found some earrings we had. We have. By the way, this is not the only one. We have a. I think three or four sets. We're going to send them so you can wear a different one every single day.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. No free shout outs to Etsy. Phenomenal website.
Kel Penn
Phenomenal website. No free shout outs.
Co-host / Commentator
No free shout outs.
Kel Penn
They had the piercing. Nolan's like, can you turn those into clip ons for me? They said, no problem. And here we are right here. Look at that. It's not even. It's not even plugged in.
Co-host / Commentator
And that's all he has to say.
Kel Penn
Plugged in the old ear. So there. That's what we have.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, he's. He found a good loophole in the. In the. In the contract.
Kel Penn
Yeah. And then Dan's got some good ears. You know what I'm saying? He's got some good ears to show off some earrings. So we'll take that for sure. But boys, hey, let's get. Let's get a round of applause for all the kids that were drafted this past weekend.
Co-host / Commentator
Kids that are getting opportunities post draft week. Dreams came true.
Kel Penn
Dreams came true. We. We got some amazing callbacks. We'll get into the draft experience in just a little bit.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. So here we go. We got different callbacks. Last week we had on coach. Head coach Mario Cristobal, Miami Hurricane. Head coach of the Miami Hurricanes. You want to check that out? He was phenomenal. But we got one here from Johnny Lagoon on YouTube. Hey, fellas. Been a Miami fan since you guys have been in your daddy's nutsack.
Kel Penn
Okay.
Co-host / Commentator
Thanks for checking out. Miami subscribed. Love seeing all the access to the school. So great reminder right now, if you are tuned in, whether you're on Spotify, Apple, YouTube, wherever you get your podcast, make sure you're subscribed to the boys. Yeah. And welcome aboard. If you're a Daniel fan and you it's your first time listening to Bus with the boys. Give a little subscribe, right?
Kel Penn
And you can go check back. There's a whole Rolodex, things you can go check out. Maybe you don't know too much about Miami. You want to know a little bit more about Miami? Guess what? We have that opportunity for you.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. The vlog is incredible. The interview with Crystal Ball is incredible. Go check all of it out.
Kel Penn
Yeah. And we did Texas Tech, right?
Co-host / Commentator
Notre Dame.
Kel Penn
Yep.
Co-host / Commentator
All of our spring tour has been done.
Kel Penn
All the head coaches, all the spring tour is done. Makes me sad. It's my favorite time of year. Spring tour is my favorite Time of year, we might have a couple of things cooked up. I don't want to say anything else.
Co-host / Commentator
Don't say too much.
Kel Penn
Couple of things might be cooked up right now. My favorite part of Mario Crystal episode is him trying to get me a fake ID to become a freshman. I mean, just. You get that kind of compliment after what I had to go through at Notre Dame where somebody got offered and I didn't get offered. So it was a nice comeback for me.
Co-host / Commentator
But it's great in the vlog. Go check out the blog.
Kel Penn
This one comes from Nick Giles 14 of 51 49. 6. Willie One shelf. As someone who is also afraid of heights but has also gone skydiving, your logic is 1000% correct. Being in a plane and jumping out is so much different than looking down from 30 plus feet. That callback is brought to you by CTE. There's no way that makes sense.
Co-host / Commentator
Look, that's his truth, and I'm glad somebody shared it. Something that I think about. So again, we were talking about the vlog and everything else last week in the Miami vlog. We're on a 10 meter diving board, like the Olympic diving board for the. For the diving team. And I was scared and I struggled to jump off you. Thank you. You were my. You were my little duck in the big slide. Children's book.
Kel Penn
Okay.
Co-host / Commentator
I'm little pup. You were a little duck. You helped come to the top with me. You made me feel brave, and you helped me jump off by counting to three. But I was up there for a good four minutes scared to jump off the 10 meter diving board.
Kel Penn
Right.
Taylor
JP said my footage was seven minutes of you up there.
Co-host / Commentator
Okay, seven.
Kel Penn
Continues.
Co-host / Commentator
I remember when I was looking at the, the GoPro that I was on, I was like, I've been up here four minutes and maybe that was the time where you're like, I'm gonna come up.
Kel Penn
Because I did want to hit a couple. You know, I wanted to get a couple for me with this, with the jumping off a high dive thing. It's like, is the water deep enough? The answer is yes. It's like, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be all right.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. And then the question came up, like, what I did or maybe I just brought the question up on doing skydiving or jumping off of a high dive. I feel like I would skydive more than jumping off somewhere really high because again, you're however many thousands of feet in the air, I think it would make a little bit more sense. Until the parachute got Pulled. But by that time, you're already up there. You've already been living in your fear. That's the problem.
Kel Penn
For me, it's a floating down thing. It's when you're so high up in the air and you're like, yeah, these strings are just holding this mass me in the air for that long as I slowly flow down. That's like, hey, lift your legs up.
Co-host / Commentator
No matter what, you're not making the decision, the conscious decision of, okay, I'm, I'm about to do it, I'm about to jump. I already see the ground. No matter what, it's getting pulled. And you're just in the air at that point.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
And somebody's whispering in your ear, hey, it's going to be okay. Stay brave. You're brave, you're strong.
Kel Penn
Here's a question for people that have gone skydiving. When you do a high jump or cliff diving or anything like that, you get that tummy up thing, right? A roller coaster. It's like, oh, what a feeling. That's the fun feeling.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
We're kind of all chasing. At what point does that end? When you're skydiving?
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Because I feel like there's no way. It just keeps going. Eventually, I think your body's like, all
Co-host / Commentator
right, your body gets used to flying through the air because on the 10
Kel Penn
meter dive, wait, 9.82 meters per second
Co-host / Commentator
squared on the 10 meter dive. Yeah. My belly wasn't having a come to moment.
Kel Penn
Right. But that's only just fear. Yeah, just fear. Imagine that was double, triple. And then all of a sudden you're 5,000ft in the air.
Co-host / Commentator
I think you just get comfortable. Right.
Dan Orlovsky
Becomes your reality, I would assume.
Kel Penn
Right. Did you just get. You get that fast?
Co-host / Commentator
No, I'm saying, like after you're up
Podcast Host / Advertiser
there and you're floating for a little
Dan Orlovsky
bit, then it's all right, well, I'm up here.
Co-host / Commentator
It's all good. Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Like, it's like, I feel like your reality is now, like, all right, I'm in the air.
Co-host / Commentator
It's jumping out of a plane. Like, there's so much time and so much space and you just can't see the tangible things on the ground. Like, I'm going to die here. Does that make sense?
Kel Penn
Yeah, that makes sense. Depends on. Yeah, depends on your jumping partner too. If the guy you're strapped to is
Co-host / Commentator
just an absolute vibe, it could be sick. You're just telling yourself what she wants. On the other side of fear, dude,
Kel Penn
to be honest, if it was crushed from Finding Nemo the turtle. Like, imagine that you're being your skydiving guy.
Dan Orlovsky
That kind of attitude.
Kel Penn
He's just in your ear. We're crushing it, dude. You're like, all right. Yeah, we got all crushing it, aren't we? That's kind of what. That's how I want my skydiver to be. That's how my.
Co-host / Commentator
We have a call back here from Carson. This is on Spotify. Again, if you listen on Spotify, you can leave comments on the Spotify episode. Where the is Shane Gillis? Yeah, this was six days ago because Shane came on the bus. We posted about Shane being on the bus. People want to know, where the fuck is Shane? The dogs are barking. Yeah.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Well, keep the dogs barking. You got one more week ahead of you. You got one more week.
Co-host / Commentator
I know that's going to be a letdown for the dogs that are tuned in right now.
Kel Penn
Now, I will give the viewer some inside ball. Obviously, the idea was to have Shane out this week when we got Dan Orlofsky right before the draft because of all the draft talk, how relevant it all is. His Ty Simpson call shot that we now know worked out for him. We thought this would be better to have Danielovsky on this week because of the relevant time frame. That's great. Shane will live on forever, right? A lot of things we talk about with Danny O. It's so in this past week, these last seven days. So we really want to get this out to the fans in the.
Co-host / Commentator
The earring that's on. Like, there was a bet that happened that took place. It was good that we had to. We had to talk about it for people.
Kel Penn
So that's a.
Co-host / Commentator
Hey, clean breakdown.
Kel Penn
Clean breakdown.
Co-host / Commentator
Clean breakdown.
Kel Penn
Love, Kevin. Satchel, we have another call back from Payton. Ha. Underscore 10, also via Payton.
Dan Orlovsky
Ha.
Kel Penn
Via Spotify as well. So if you want to comment on Spotify, looks like we're looking at those two. Husher. Come on, now. Come on, babe. Y' all getting too loose with the clean takes. Can't be a clean take if everything is a clean take. Clean take.
Co-host / Commentator
That's a clean.
Kel Penn
That's a Kevin's natural foods clean take. Clean. Everybody be a clean take. And that is unfortunately another point you're trying to say, Peyton. Ha. But that's a clean take. Peyton. Ha. I'm just sending it out, brother. Like, you know me. I'm. I'm hooked on phonics over here in the brain. You know what I'm saying? I'm enunciation. You get those complex words in front of me all of a sudden, scrambled eggs.
Co-host / Commentator
We do have tear talk later in the episode. However, I do feel like it'd be good to read this tear talk from Kyle Riley, 7, because it was he's leaving this comment last week and this is hashtag tear talk. So again, the questions that we we answer. All you have to do is leave hashtag tear talk. We answer them with Danny O. Those will be in that interview. But this is a tear talk that I thought would be relevant. Hashtag tear talk. This from Kyle Reilly, Seven on YouTube. When you hear your name come out of the mouth of your favorite podcaster that you've been listening to since the gravel parking lot days, original tier one gave you all free shout outs all the time. Truly fell out of my chair. Love you guys. Big hugs, tiny kisses. Go blue. Shout out, Kyle. That was nice.
Kel Penn
That was super nice. And also Kyle. Go blue. Go blue. Nothing better than a tier one family finally being heard, right?
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
We start 2026 year the audience. We're letting the audience kind of be a part of it.
Co-host / Commentator
It's just nice on the year the audience. You did open a God Pack on your live stream last night.
Kel Penn
Tell me what a God Pack is.
Co-host / Commentator
A God Pack, like the pack of all packs. Like before you, before you, before you open this pack, you hit the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit and you put out your hands like you receive a community cracker.
Kel Penn
The whole thing.
Dan Orlovsky
Yep.
Kel Penn
Bread. Yeah. Yeah. So here is the deal. For those of you that don't know, I've been doing streams every Sunday, 7pm Central Time. As I've been doing these streams, I've been ripping packs, Pokemon cards and NFL cards as well. Along the lines, a company called Courtyard goes, we like what you're doing. How do we become a part of it? Because we know you're giving away a lot of cards. Why not give away some stuff?
Co-host / Commentator
On our platform, we got not only cards, but basically everything.
Kel Penn
Basically. And if you, speaking of callbacks, you want to go back to the last intro we did about Mario Crystal Ball, there's really no end game. There's, there's no dead end to what Courtyard can be. Eventually we're selling, selling land in Arkansas.
Co-host / Commentator
We came up with it last week. Real estate's going to be on the app.
Kel Penn
You can rip essentially anything. It's really just up them to like diversify their portfolio. So what we do on these live streams is we choose three fans when they drop their username in the comments of the post that I make on my personal Page. We give them $500 rips, three opportunities and it's kind of this game. It's a little bit of a. It's a thrill shopping situation where hey, I'm going to rip this pack for you. Might be more than 500, it might be less than 500, but you get three cheese.
Co-host / Commentator
When Taylor says more than 500 or less than 500, there's a worth. The pack is worth 500. You could rip something. Like last night you ripped one where somebody got like a thousand dollar value.
Kel Penn
Twelve hundred dollars. Yeah. Clump. Twelve hundred dollar pack.
Jack
I think it was eleven hundred.
Kel Penn
Eleven hundred dollars. Some kid got a eleven hundred dollar car. The value of that car was eleven hundred dollars. Cost them zero dollars. I think overall we ripped fifteen hundred dollars worth of packs or two thousand dollars. The packs and people got a value of over, I think $3,000 in total of their cards.
Co-host / Commentator
So when they get to that moment, pack spins is does this awesome grand reveal. Grand reveal. They see that their 500 pack that they just got to rip for free with you.
Kel Penn
Yep.
Co-host / Commentator
Now this card or whatever it is sitting in front of them is worth a thousand dollars.
Kel Penn
Yes.
Co-host / Commentator
Then what?
Kel Penn
Then the they. I will send them that card. So I can literally transfer in real time. Like, oh, Sherm just won a card. I can put in Sherm's username. It transfers right to him. He refreshes his profile. It's now in his bank. He can do multiple things with it. He can send to somebody else. He can send it to his house. So he has it. The courtyard even has a marketplace. You're like, I like this, but I like the money better. I'm going to put this on the marketplace where somebody can buy. And I know somebody who's just been a pack connoisseur as of recently. Jared Beeman.
Dan Orlovsky
I didn't know you could sell them. I listed it for sale and I
Kel Penn
was like, no one will pick this up. Maybe it'll sit.
Dan Orlovsky
It sold within like 24 hours for
Kel Penn
more than it was worth. I was like, let me just mark this up.
Dan Orlovsky
Sold.
Kel Penn
Caitlin Clark.
Co-host / Commentator
Made some cash, made some cash, made some cash.
Kel Penn
Sitting in the old courtyard bank right there. So like we said, opportunities and endless. But let's get back to the real thing we were talking about, which is the God pack. So Pokemon, we all know it as kids. We remember the Charizard, the Blastoise, the Venusaur, all those things. Once it got past the 151, your boy kind of bowed out of the race of trying to catch them all. I was all about it at 151, and then I kind of bowed out. A couple months ago, I started to get back into it. The pack I started to rip was a pack pack called Ascended Heroes. Now, Ascended Heroes is fantastic. They say the Gengar is the number one hit you can get in it. But now everyone's kind of starting to realize that this. This forest Pikachu is the hit. So the Gengar Raw is twelve hundred dollars. That. That card is worth twelve hundred dollars Raw. The Pikachu is like twenty, like two thousand Raw. And in a PSA ten, which your boy owns, by the way, is like close to $5,000 now. So I've been trying to rip this damn Pikachu forever. Now with the Senate Heroes, you bolt some good damage. Yeah, 120. Put that out there. That's a battle.
Co-host / Commentator
That's an actual catching Pikachu right there.
Kel Penn
Yeah, exactly. So with the Ascended Heroes, usually you flip these packs around and the last three cards is where you're hit. Gonna be a God Pack is. Is when you turn the pack around and it's already a hit, sir. Special illustration. Rare is the hit you want. So it's going to be just a full art view like you saw with that Pikachu, but of different characters. I turned this pack around, and if the first card is a sir, you're in your. You're in. You're in God Pack territory. You check one more, it's a full sir.
Co-host / Commentator
So when you get this God Pack, you don't know you have a God Pack in your hands until you see the bag. Until you see, like the first card.
Kel Penn
The first card. Once you see the full card and it's an sir, you're like, oh, my God.
Co-host / Commentator
This is a God.
Kel Penn
This is a God Pack. So you know that every single card in this pack is going to be of value. A lot of times they're bulk, they're throwaways, and you hopefully there's one card in there that has some sort of value to it. So there's like, what, nine, ten cards in a pack. Every single card had value to it. And I'm. Dude, when you pull. I've seen three God Packs pulled one. I was at Nash Cards. Some kid pulled it and got the chew. And I'm literally sitting there because my wife said, don't buy those ones. There's not big hits in those ones. Turns out kid bought one. That's what the God Pack was all good. We don't blame Taylor for that. We just learn from our experiences. The Next one was last week. Taylor hits a God Pack, bro. Taylor hit her own God Pack, but no Chew. So it was like. It's awesome. We've been chasing this Chew for so long. When I hit this God Pack, dude, truly, I thought that you would be in there. And I thought my journey of Ascended heroes would finally be over. Because I'm getting to the point where I'm like, I want to rip something different, but now it's personal. It's pride. Keep hitting.
Co-host / Commentator
You got to get the Chew.
Kel Penn
Yeah, I got to get the Chew. No chew. But we did get the gangaroo. Talk about a heart rate boost. All right. Talk about Endorphins city. Yeah, it was awesome.
Co-host / Commentator
So the God Pack.
Kel Penn
Yes.
Co-host / Commentator
The only way to get a God Pack is by getting some Ascended Heroes packs.
Kel Penn
I think every set has a God Pack. The Ascended Heroes is the only God Pack I've seen.
Co-host / Commentator
And then when you open this, whatever the pack is, and there's an sir card starting off, that's when you know, I'm on the steps.
Kel Penn
You're in God Pack territory.
Co-host / Commentator
Pearly Gates are in front of me.
Kel Penn
Pearly Gates are in front of you. It is truly, it's a one in a million chance.
Co-host / Commentator
Okay.
Kel Penn
It's a one in a million chance. And I've been able to see three of them. I've been able to see and they do also do in football, too, they have God Packs. Everything kind of has a guy back. Then there's the Demigod pack. We don't have to get into all that today. We don't have to get into all that today.

Shot of Kevin's Natural Foods. Yeah.
Jack
Fun stream.
Co-host / Commentator
There's a lot of protein in that breakdown.
Kel Penn
Right? And dude, I will give a shout out to the fans. Every week, more and more people are joining. More and more people are about it. Spamming the chat, having fun. So we're building a nice little community out there. I see this. I see a little Runway in front of us. Let's just take off and take it to the moon.
Co-host / Commentator
Speaking of community, how about the community that feels like they're celebrating that Diego Pavia didn't get drafted?
Kel Penn
I say shame on them. I don't. I want no part of that community.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, yeah. Where I was surprised.
Kel Penn
Fuck you.
Jack
What were you all expecting him to go?
Co-host / Commentator
Time out, timeout. Nobody was expecting that.
Kel Penn
Right.
Co-host / Commentator
I think I've been on here a couple of times saying that I think he is going to be a low round or an undrafted Cat the speculation that he was going to be a high round guy or anything like that, like, I never bought into it. However, I was surprised to see that all it was was a rookie minicamp tryout for people that don't do not know what that means. So I was undrafted. So when you're undrafted and you get a phone call right after the draft, right, like they're rounding out their 90 man roster, they have vets that are already there, they've made acquisitions in free agency in the off season, they've traded now they've drafted their guys, they're trying to round out a 90 man roster. So any holes in that 90 man roster, they pick up the phone and try to fill it, start dialing with preferred undrafted free agents. So what a preferred undrafted free agent is, is essentially like for me, after draft, I did not get drafted. Teams called, I want to say it was the Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Redskins, and they were offering deals for me to be an undrafted free agent. I get to pick where I said they gave me like a $5,000 signing bonus. My agent calls me, I don't even know what's going on, I don't know who I'm going to be with. And he just says, congratulations, you're a Washington Redskin. So I essentially signed a contract to be on that 90 man roster for a little $5,000 signing bonus. Now you have rookie minicamps this week. All the draft picks, all the undrafted preferred free agents that got picked up on a team, they are now attending this rookie minicamp. So in your brain there's about if a team just only has seven draft picks and let's just say three UND free agents, that's 10 guys that's going to rookie minicamp to have practice and to fill out this entire camp situation, you need a field, like an entire team. So you can see your draft picks work, you can see your undrafted guys work and you can see these rookie minicamp tryout guys work as well. So a bunch of offers go out to all the rest of the guys who didn't get an undrafted contract. They ask him if they want to do a rookie minicamp. Tryout. They accept. They field this entire team to do rookie minicamp this week for, I want to say it's three days, right? And where Diego Pavia landed was. He didn't, obviously he went undrafted, he didn't get a preferred free agent contract, which was surprising to me. And now he's at the spot, it's with the Ravens, right? Yeah, he's Doing a rookie minicamp tryout this week with the Ravens.
Kel Penn
And then someone posted here, Karen Howell. She said root of the Ravens to invite Diego Pavia to their mini camp instead of their regular size camp. Okay, that's a nasty comment.
Co-host / Commentator
Nasty comment.
Kel Penn
That's a nasty comment because he's. Because he's not very tall, and it's not as funny as how you laugh. Pretty funny. It is funny, but that's not as funny as how you laugh.
Jack
That was an hour ago on Twitter. So that's fresh on the bird.
Kel Penn
Oh, wow.
Jack
That's fresh.
Co-host / Commentator
Good tweet.
Jack
Good tweet.
Kel Penn
Great, strong tweet.
Jack
Clean tape.
Kel Penn
That's not a clean take. Stop, man. Dude, Kevin's Natural Food feels people of all shapes and sizes.
Co-host / Commentator
Yes.
Kel Penn
That's what Kevin's natural Foods does. That's not a clean take. That's not a clean.
Co-host / Commentator
Were you surprised? Were you surprised? It just got. It was just a minicamp tryout.
Kel Penn
Yeah, I was very surprised. It's just a minicamp trial. I thought at the very. At the most, how bad it would be for Diego.
Co-host / Commentator
It would be just an undrafted.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Undrafted free agent preferred.
Dan Orlovsky
Undrafted free.
Co-host / Commentator
Maybe a small market. When I say small market, you might be thinking anywhere from 2500 to $20,000 signing bonus to go sign with the team to kind of round out their depth.
Kel Penn
Now he's basically just. He's going, you're paying your own airfare to get there type of thing. When it comes to where he's positioned himself out with the rookie minicamp, the thing that was so surprising to me is I started to listen to all these people, these draft experts talking about the draft and where it's heavy because there's a lot of drafts where they're like, hey, first runs a little light, but the meat and potatoes, like the third to sixth round, a lot of strong candidates in there for the value. This draft, people were saying the top 50 picks is kind of where everything's at. And then after that, it's kind of like, you know, because of nil era, because of the coven, all these kids are now older. The draft isn't as strong as it needs to be on the back half. So a lot of. A lot of teams or a lot of things that I saw were people saying after the fifth round, everyone was kind of like, we're ready to go home. Like, we don't really need more guys. We're kind of just picking because we're in the slot to pick right now. That's where it's surprising to me that a guy like Diego Pavia who is regardless of what people want to say, like that's a football player, wrestler brain, football player, body. I understand the reason why people don't take him and that's because of all the off the field stuff. Yeah, you see the Heisman thing take place after the Heisman. There's a bottle, whoever, whatever it is. So all the antics that take place. And I get that from a PR perspective, especially in the football world, the NFL world, you want to limit distractions as much as possible. I think that's what happened to Shadur Sanders going in the fifth round last year.
Dan Orlovsky
Year.
Kel Penn
I think from his talent standpoint he deserved to be in that fifth to seventh round because you got a guy that inevitably can be an emergency quarterback for you, but he's going to find his way in the special teams category. Shorter, smaller, but he's gritty, he's willing to lower shoulder. And the kid, regardless of what you want to say about him, off the field, willing to learn as well and loves ball. Like this might become a spoiler for a lot of people. Not every football player in the NFL loves football. They love the paycheck, they love it comes with it. But it's a little more. You see it, you don't see it as much than when you do see this guys love playing the game. He loves playing the game of football. What I see this is now is the same position we sat in this time last year with Shaduras where hey, you got your foot in the door. It's not the exact foot you want to get in the door or how you want to get in. But now it's an opportunity to have a chip on the shoulder and show everybody I can do X, Y and Z. And if you love the game as much as I think you love the game, you'll find your way somewhere, whether it's practice squad for a couple of years, find yourself in preseason. So huge opportunity for growth in Diego Pavia is what I would say.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Would you, would you say bad route
Kel Penn
for him to look at a UFL CFL option and like really not at all. As of right now? I would say yes. As of right now.
Co-host / Commentator
Bad, you say bad option. As of right now?
Kel Penn
As of right now it's a bad option. Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. Not like jumping in. I'm not going to do rookie mini camp Trout. I'm going to go, I'm going to go in the CFL or the ufl.
Kel Penn
Right. Because these ufo, CFL guys, everybody's North Star is the NFL? Yeah, everybody. Some guys get to see a fellow. I had a teammate of mine at Michigan, Craig Rowe. RIP Craig Rowe. He was with the Panthers for a little bit, and then he went to the CFL for the play for the BC Lions. I get on the phone with him, like two, three years into it, he's like, dude, I love this. I kind of understand where my strengths and weaknesses lie and they kind of. They perform much better here. I can support my family. I'm not bouncing around all over the place. I love it here. So some guys find a home there and they love it. But for a lot of these guys, 99% of the guys, it's like, hey, this is a stepping stone to get to the NFL. So if there's a. There's a crack in a door for you, even if it is a rookie minicamp tryout situation, you're going to take every op you can possibly get to make it into the NFL.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, the thing with Diego is just keeping your head down and not creating any fodder that would deter you from an NFL team looking at you to bring you in. Because that's the game. It seems like the grittiness, the, the. The kid believes in himself. He works hard. If he does all that stuff and keeps his head down and not make any, like, headlines or comments or things like that, like, again, for us, like, I like Diego, it's. For us, it's like entertaining. You kind of love Diego for who he is, all that stuff, but now you get a look inside of, like, how that stuff can hurt. Can hurt you in the, in the grand scheme of things. Because we're. We're not in the front office.
Kel Penn
Right?
Co-host / Commentator
We can be. Be like, yo, Diego's a worker. I love that. This dude loves football. All the stuff that you've seen when he did the Gruden camp and everything else, like, Diego's a football player. But it's going to be up to him now to try to figure out, you know, what his next. What his route is going to be now that he's gotten the rookie minicamp tryout where there's UFL or cfl. Yeah, dude, I was with a cat. Again, this. The rookie minicamp tryout is always interesting. Like when I was in my rookie minicamp, we had gotten done with ours and I was locker next to somebody, I forget his name, and he's like, I'm about to get on a plane and go to Green Bay because I got another rookie minicamp tryout tomorrow to where guys are just. They're on the, they're hitting the road on the hunt, going to as many rookie minicamp trials as possible because some guys, like I've seen, Akeem Davis was one. He was somebody who was a safety and he was phenomenal on special teams. And he made a name for himself at the rookie minicamp tryout because he could, he was, he looked the part. He could run like a deer. And created enough chaos at rookie minicamp to where they signed him while he was there to like, hey, sign a rookie contract with us. You're going to join the, the 90 man roster to try and make the team. And he ended up making the team through special teams.
Kel Penn
I know you look at the, like, just the team he was able to go to too. Clearly, Harbaugh is not the Ravens anymore, but the culture, the toughness and then who's playing quarterback there? Lamar Jackson, kind of that zone Reed type of thing, it is a good fit for Diego if he's able to get his foot in the door post rookie minicamp now, then it's up to him, like, can you stay, you know, away from the people that have kind of put you in the position to be yes men for you when you want to go to the bars or go around and listen, guys like the boost, guys like to have a lot of fun, but NFL stands for not for long for a reason. Like, you got to realize that you've been humbled. Now let's get after it because, because this team he's at now, toughness, grit, you got Lamar Jackson, who is a, you know, a dual threat quarterback. You are also a dual threat quarterback. You could find yourself a home there. You could find yourself in a position. So you find yourself in that punt team, that personal protector. Now we're running a bunch of fakes throughout the year. I mean, Taysom, was it Tatum? Taysom Hill. Yeah. Arguably the greatest athlete of all time. Arguably. Arguably. That's a clean take. That's a clean take.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Where else are you going to find somebody that can play every position outside the office?
Co-host / Commentator
Clean take. Clean take.
Kel Penn
I was ready to. You saw that. I'm ready to swing on the boy right now for Days of Mel. Like, you gotta, you gotta. Like, if I'm Diego Pavia, I'm getting a poster of the Mormon missile. I'm putting it up in my locker and I'm like, this is my God now. That's what you got to do.
Dan Orlovsky
Clean debate.
Co-host / Commentator
Clean debate.
Kel Penn
Ah, I'm just saying, Mormon missile.
Co-host / Commentator
Diego, if he's able to do more than just play quarterback that would obviously help him a lot.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Because that's not your game now.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, yeah. It's just. Dude, it's. It's always so interesting because then you got a cat. What's. What's the dude from Nigeria. They got drafted, hasn't played any football, Stayed away from Run like the Wind. Massive cat. Ur Bernard.
Dan Orlovsky
Yes, sir.
Co-host / Commentator
He's drafted. Then you got guys, you know, people will be like, well, how about about these people that had off the field issues? Or this. But it was. It didn't amount to what Diego was doing. It's just like, dude, it shows that the tangible stuff that NFL teams look for is like, okay, this guy would be worth the risk because his ceiling is extremely high. Whereas Diego, where I feel bad is it did feel like he was under the understanding that he wouldn't, like, fall out of the second day or not get drafted. It's like, well, that. That just sucks.
Kel Penn
I think the biggest. One of the issues we could work on is like, we want to be confident in ourselves, but we also have. We need somebody around us to have a little more reality.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. A little bit more awareness.
Kel Penn
A little more awareness. Like Diego, I'm pretty sure when he was with us that I'm going to be first overall or I'm going in the first round. It's like, I love your headset. Keep that forever. But you also need somebody behind you going, hey, just so you know.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Like, who's your agent? I don't think he has an agent. Correct.
Co-host / Commentator
He has an agent. That is, that is. That's a rumor. That's been an hour. It's been all that stuff you see on the Internet.
Kel Penn
Right.
Jack
Why do you say that?
Kel Penn
He did not. That was cut up wrong.
Jack
Oh.
Kel Penn
So, okay, yeah, he, he said he did not have an nil agent, but he does have an NFL agent.
Co-host / Commentator
And I'm gonna mess up his name
Kel Penn
right now, but it's Malky something.
Co-host / Commentator
UFC guy, you know, Malky, probably. Probably Diego's like, yeah, doesn't have an nil agent, because nil agents take like anywhere between like 10 and 20%. Whereas an NFL agent who. That he, he does have an NFL agent. They do all your contracting at 3%. So Diego's like, I'm not gonna. He did. He just didn't have an nil agent during college. But he does have an agent.
Kel Penn
I'll say this, too. A lot of these NFL agents for first round picks are taking one and a half percent now. Now not even 3%.
Co-host / Commentator
That's because the, the, the boys are aware that they're going to go in the first round no matter what. So everybody who's hunting them to, like, rep them and be their agent, you can kind of have some leverage to be like, well, will you do it for this percentage?
Kel Penn
I'll say this. I called my agent and I said, can I get 1 1/2% back for my rookie contract? And they politely told me to kick rocks. All good. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kel Penn
Well, so let's. Let's check in with our. Our Pittsburgh Steelers because there was a very unique thing that happened in the first round of this draft.
Co-host / Commentator
Oh, yeah. Matter of fact, we do. We have a tear talk. Do you mind if I read the tear talk?
Kel Penn
Go ahead, read it.
Co-host / Commentator
This is from Dick Richard Rich, a on X. Hashtag, tear talk. I would love to hear the boys take on Philly sniping Makai Lemon while he was on the phone with Pittsburgh during the NFL draft. Hashtag, we love Shane. Hey, Howie Roseman.
Kel Penn
Lot of applause for Howie Rose. I mean, that is. Yeah, that is a gangster move. That is a friend of the show.
Co-host / Commentator
I hate the Eagles, but I loved watching it go down.
Kel Penn
Yeah, I hated the Eagles season this past year, but the roster, how he operates, trials and tribulations, all of it, Dude, Just Howie Roseman doing Howie Roseman thinks find the gray everywhere.
Co-host / Commentator
We're about to lose A.J. brown. Hold my beer. Let's see what we do here.
Kel Penn
Watch what I do right here.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Now there. We had some conversations during the draft. There are moments you're excited. There were moments you were really sad. So more. More. More sad than happy. But go ahead and talk me through it.
Co-host / Commentator
But, hey, make sure to walk people through who didn't tune in for the first round, or they might not have everything. All the context to what we're talking about.
Derek
Yeah, sure. So the Pittsburgh Steelers just started right there. They call all of their draft picks before they're on the clock. They call them, they check in with them, and pretty much every time Omar goes, hey, if everything goes according to plan, we're taking you. And that's the lingo he uses just to debunk anything clump could say for the rest of the episode. The other thing in there is we go from wanting Makai Lemon, being on the phone with Makai Lemon because we brought in Michael Pittman, we have DK Metcalf. We will bring in Aaron Rodgers eventually. I hope so. We were trying to get another receiver. That was different. They went after Lemon. Philadelphia is overcompensating for the lack of quarterback position in house. So they get another receiver, the fifth receiver, I believe, this off season. So they bring another receiver. He's fine. So then we're sitting there, me, Will and J.P. and I'm just, you know, I was poison testing a couple Bud lights, so I was making sure they were good. And so I was a little excited and happy.
Co-host / Commentator
And Steelers are sitting there. Right. One pick right before their pick. They're on the phone with Makai. Hey, you're.
Derek
And the Eagles slid in because Dallas was going defense. So Makai Lemon off the board. I'm looking at the names. I'm begging for a couple guys, hoping a couple guys don't go. And then we take Max. Max.
Co-host / Commentator
It's a hard one.
Derek
Swing tackle out of Arizona State High prospect. Didn't play football in high school. Juco guy comes out. Massive human being.
Co-host / Commentator
Upside.
Derek
Upside is there. It's just that position we didn't need. It felt like a panic pick at the time because he wasn't a really guy that we had brought in. I will say hindsight going through the rest of the draft. Taylor, we had a long talk that night about my ups and downs of Max. Big upside Pittsburgh.
Co-host / Commentator
The Steeler fans that were there in Pittsburgh, like, they are now flooding to the exit. Yeah, we all have that big dick. After that pick went down, like, Steelers fans were.
Derek
Well, I don't think it was a reflection of Steelers fans hating that pick they left. They were just ready to go home.
Co-host / Commentator
If you guys end up getting Makai Lemon, it's not people aren't flooding the exit. It's Bud Lights being passed around left and right celebrating happening.
Derek
I can't speak on that timeline. Like, it's not a real timeline. And where we are, I can only speak on what happened. Yeah, I would assume there were a few more Bud Lights cracked. If we had Makai Lemon, I can agree with the assumption there. So we take Max. And I wasn't happy. Slept on it. We need a left tackle. Broderick Jones. Neck is basically mush at this point. We need the guy I wanted Roger Jones. We need that guy.
Co-host / Commentator
Was there a part of you that when you saw the. Because we were at the draft, so we weren't seeing all this stuff with Makai Lemon. The phone call. He was on the phone with the Steelers going down.
Kel Penn
You're just catching up on the bird after.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. When you woke up the next day and saw that the clip that they were looking to get Makai Lemon and Then how he just sniped in while you guys were on the phone with Makai saying, hey, you're about to be a Pittsburgh Steeler. Matter of fact, no, you're not. Eagles traded up into Dallas's spot, sniped him right before. Were you at least being like, okay, at least I know the Steelers, their heads were in the right spot.
Derek
I actually woke up that morning and went back to my rankings and realized I forgot I had listed Makai Lemon as a bust. And so I was happy that it didn't happen. I had forgotten that I ranked him so low in my personal rankings that morning. And so when I woke up, I was like, wow, we dodged a huge bullet.
Kel Penn
Fair enough.
Taylor
You've been hot with your wide receiver bus, too. The last time I have.
Derek
He's not the guy I named, but I will say I don't want to throw out names, but I am about 6 for 7 in the last drafts with naming my bust. I did not name him as the guy for it, but when I woke up, I remembered that it was him now, so. So we're getting there. Second day, day two, we got the guy that we talked about, Taylor, Jeremy Bernard, receiver. That is a stud that I love. And we get the sexiest man in America, Jennings Dunker, who I think we can all agree is the greatest lineman in the entire.
Kel Penn
That guy.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Anytime you get an Iowa offensive line, that guy's starting for the next 25.
Derek
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
That's a Pittsburgh Steeler.
Kel Penn
That's a Steeler right there. He's literally the same color, so you have to do no editing on that photo at all. He comes in on here's. Hey, listen, the Mikhail Lemon tough situation looks optically. Looks real tough on the bird, I think catching a lot of heat. Pittsburgh Steeler fans. Jeremy Bernard, though, and we talked about this in the pre pro. I think that's your steal of the draft right there. We had the opportunity this year. Watch a lot of Alabama games. Games during those Alabama games. Like anytime they got Jeremy Bernard the ball, it's the yards after catch. It's his ability to throw the ball in the perimeter. Very tough, balanced wide receiver. I like him a lot. Reminds me body type. He's got that frame of A.J. brown. I don't know his how tall he is. I don't think he's as tall as AJ but ball skills, bodying other DBs like this is a cat. This is. This is a tough Pittsburgh steel you're about to have.
Co-host / Commentator
I will say, I don't know if we can Just throw around like tables. Like, this is AJ Brown type cat.
Kel Penn
No, the. The build. You look at the building, you go, A.J. brown type.
Taylor
He's built and like runs kind of like AJ like, he.
Kel Penn
He built runs like AJ But I feel like more. I would put it more on a Debo as well. Like you could hit him on the perimeter. Quick little screen, bubble screen out there, and he's gonna get you eight to 10, couple good. Some good blocks. He's popping one for six years.
Taylor
You don't want it. You don't want to put these expectations on him though.
Co-host / Commentator
Right, right.
Kel Penn
Oh, my bad, my bad. I thought iron. Sharpened iron, but okay.
Derek
Yeah.
Taylor
If you're comparing him to AJ And Debo and he doesn't have an AJ Or Debo type year, then it's like, this guy's a bust. But I like.
Kel Penn
I.
Co-host / Commentator
It's a good football player.
Kel Penn
It's a good. Good.
Co-host / Commentator
I agree with you.
Kel Penn
AJ Was a second round pick. He's a second round pick. They look the same if they don't have the same production. Bust. That's what I'm saying. So we don't know who Pittsburgh's quarterback is yet, but this guy, I think doesn't have a thousand yards this year. I'm calling him. We might have to call him a bus.
Dan Orlovsky
If this guy.
Co-host / Commentator
If this kid doesn't end up with the Eagles and trying to make bake his way out of that contract and everybody wants him, that's a bust.
Kel Penn
Exactly.
Taylor
How do you dare?
Kel Penn
I need Howie Rose. Been trading for this guy in three years.
Co-host / Commentator
Then I need this guy blowing it up.
Kel Penn
Yeah, exactly.
Taylor
It's also kind of interesting that the Steelers. It's also kind of interesting the Steelers drafted a rival of a quarterback you already have on the team with Drew Aller and Will Howard now that they're on the same team, because Will Howard's from Pennsylvania from like 15 minutes away from me. Wanted to go to Penn State. Penn State never offered him because of Drew Aller. So these guys have been in the same orbit for three, four years, and now they're on the same team. They probably hate each other.
Derek
Good.
Kel Penn
I'll be honest with you all. Once you get to the NFL, you're not really looking at, like, you have your chirps during, like Saturday after walk through. People walk in. The noon slate of college football is going on. And if your teams are playing.
Co-host / Commentator
Yes, you're busting shots or like the old. Are you talking like high school days? Yeah.
Taylor
Drew's from, like the northeast area and Will is from Pennsylvania.
Co-host / Commentator
So it's like, yeah, they'll be busting balls. I'm sure Will Howard will be like, do you know you're 15 minutes away from Mitch Carsley?
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. Like, we're all in the same scope. Like, let's put our swords down and become a team.
Kel Penn
If anything, Mitch, you're not. This is an opportunity for you to be the mediator on all this.
Taylor
I'm just trying to get invited to a rookie mini camp.
Kel Penn
Fda. Hey, listen, you got Diego Pavia type of upside, some are saying.
Taylor
I mean, Titans give Jack and I a call. I don't know if.
Kel Penn
I don't know why Jackson. Don't know why Jackson.
Podcast Host / Advertiser
If you.
Kel Penn
If you guys come watch, though.
Jack
Absolutely.
Taylor
If you guys saw Jack during the punt passing kick competition we had last
Jack
week, throw me on his punter maybe
Kel Penn
for maybe three days.
Jack
So my hammy goes pop.
Co-host / Commentator
You just need the invite.
Kel Penn
Yeah, you just need the invite. For ego purposes, I'll say this too. I saw Ryan Stonehouse a couple days ago. Oh, yeah, Just ab. Just great to see him. Great to see him. I breaks my heart because of his. His rookie year and how amazing it was. I forgot.
Co-host / Commentator
What's he. What?
Kel Penn
Yeah, I think he's a free agent. Right now. He's doing real estate. No. Yes.
Jack
Now we have Tommy Townsend, Chiefs punter, who I think is a Nashville guy, too.
Co-host / Commentator
Bro, that is crazy because Stonehouse did just take over.
Kel Penn
He was bombing like 60, 70 yard punts his rookie year. Second year got. That's when he got the ACL injury. It wasn't just an AC. That was a bad injury. Bad injury, so.
Co-host / Commentator
Oh, that's.
Kel Penn
He hasn't fully recovered from that because
Co-host / Commentator
again, Titans moving on from Kern. Like, he's historic. I mean, he's the best punter that the Titans have ever had.
Kel Penn
Historically, I think Brett Kern's the best player the Titans have ever had. Yeah, like he like, right, Jack? I mean, it's hard to argue that Brett Kern's not the greatest of all time. I mean, hard to argue.
Jack
There's a lot of people.
Co-host / Commentator
But people know what Brett Kern meant to the team and the organization.
Jack
What's cool is when Brent Kern retired the next guy. Who was the longest 10 year Titan at that point? Do y' all know the answer to that? It was Taylor.
Kel Penn
No way. I was so excited when Brett got out of there. I was like, hell yeah, dude. I'm the. I'm the guy now. Brett, I love you. I watched his son literally grow up in our locker room together. It was really cool to see his son do that. But once he was gone, I was like, I sit on the Iron Throne now.
Co-host / Commentator
But knowing, too, that Stonehouse took over for that. And everybody was kind of like, this just has to happen because the dude is a baller. And I didn't know that he wasn't with the team right now. Dude.
Kel Penn
And it sucks. Yeah. Because Brett, as long as he. I think it was like, 15 years, something crazy with the Titans. And then Stonehouse comes in, you could feel a little bit of friction there because obviously Brett, he's on the last leg, and then Stonehouse coming, you're like, oh, this kid's incredible. He's not only bombing these things, like 60, 70 yards, he's putting inside the five when you want. He had incredible accuracy. Like, the guy had. Had as much as you can get excited about a punter. Like, you're like, that excited about him. This is flipping the field for you, regardless of where you're at. And it just. It sucks, dude. Andrews. Am I right, boys? Yeah, Right.
Co-host / Commentator
They come for us all.
Kel Penn
They come for us all. Come for us all.
Co-host / Commentator
There was a. Do you want to get into this breakdown here that Sherman's flashing in front of our face?
Kel Penn
Oh, we can talk about that. I love. I'd love to just kind of, since we're on the Titans, talk real quick.
Co-host / Commentator
We'll hit the Titans.
Kel Penn
Have a conversation real quick. How we feel about that first run. I know it, too. But that first Cardinal Tate, I know a lot of people wanted Jeremiah Love. I was surprised to see Jeremiah go. 3. Was it to the cardinals? Correct. Three cardinals. Surprised to see that. I thought it was all but secured that Jeremiah Love was going to be the guy. Carnell Tate, great football player, incredible routes, finds those holes in zone a lot of people. The big knock on him was he was the number two receiver on his team last year. What happens when you don't have a guy like Jeremiah Smith taking all the attention away from you? Jack, I want to hear your thoughts.
Jack
Well, the whole argument with him being the number two at Ohio State, it's. You're behind Jeremiah Smith, who people are tracking him to be the next Megatron. Like, he could be the next great receiver of, like. Yeah. And so if you're number two to that guy, I don't think that's a bad thing to hang your hat on. Also, his separation and downhill speed, I think is going to be that, like, star power pop that Cam Ward needs. People also forgetting we picked up Wando Robinson, like, we're Loading up the wide receivers, which I think will be nice. I do wish the Titans had addressed our O line issue a little earlier that I think we took.
Kel Penn
Took fifth, which was.
Jack
People are saying the best Fernando in the draft, which is Fernando Karma Carmanda Jr. Came out of Arkansas, so hopefully he's going to be a dog.
Dan Orlovsky
The.
Jack
I'm forgetting his name. The linebacker from Texas who is Anthony. Yeah, Anthony Hill. He's gonna be a monster. And then Nick rushed Pastor too, a little bit from Penn State. I think it's going to be a great. Yeah. Keldrick Falk. I think he's going to be a development player that he's going to get in there because at Auburn, people have issues that he only had two career sacks, but he was also with Auburn, I think, for only two years maybe.
Taylor
And he was more of like a.
Podcast Host / Advertiser
He played.
Jack
He played a lot of like, functionality. He wasn't just an edge guy.
Taylor
He didn't make splash plays, but he was always.
Jack
But I think he could be someone. And at the end of the day, man, I do trust Mike Borgonzi. This is the second draft of the Titans. I think he knows what he's doing, especially now with Salah and. And everything that we've got going on. I. I have a big trust with these guys. So moving forward. Yes. Carnell Tate scares a lot of people. Could be too early. I. I know that Makai Lemon won the Belinda Coffee last year. I still think Cardinal Tate was the best receiver in that draft, even though he's the number two guy at Ohio State. I think if it pans out, it's going to be great. But obviously if you look back in, you know, 365 days and we're went four and three, I mean, not four and three, but you know what I mean, four wins, people are going to be upset. I do believe that Cardinal Tate is going to have star power. And you put him with Cam Ward. It's like Cam Ward needs these weapons right now more than ever, or else he's going to burn out quick. And we're. We're going to have another issue with quarterback Cardio.
Taylor
Tate would be a number two or number one on literally any other dude.
Co-host / Commentator
How sick are the Ohio State Buckeyes? And I'm sorry, I know you weren't on the. But the fact that you got that you're like the number two on your team. You went fourth overall in the NFL draft and they got Jeremiah Smith, who's going to be supposedly better than Carnell Tate.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Barring A quarterback going on overall, like, Jeremiah Smith's your number one overall guy next year.
Co-host / Commentator
The talent that's flooded on that team, it's incredible.
Kel Penn
And yeah, for coming from a Michigan man himself, I'll be honest, like, if you're a GM and you're looking at Ohio State wide receiver, you're probably safe. Yeah, you're probably. You're probably safe. Kids get them bi.
Co-host / Commentator
I think.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Now Jeremy Bernard, if he doesn't get a thousand yards, he's a bust. Cardinal Tate, I'll give him a little bit of time. I give him a little bit of time.
Co-host / Commentator
And also.
Kel Penn
But one thing that you said, Jake, that I completely agree with and Orlovsky talks about this on the interview was this year is extremely important for Cam Ward. Extremely important. You need to give as many weapons as possible. He's a confident man. Got to get that confidence to an all time high going this year, the offensive line, addressing that. Dude, you have so much money already in your offensive line. It'd be difficult, I think, to be like, all right, let's go invest more in a first or second round pick in the offensive line. When you have an $80 million to your. Your left tackle, you just picked up the fifth year option for your left guard. You get $50 million to your center, you have a vet. I mean, in JC Latham, like, you have multiple first round picks, multiple second contract heavy guys on your offensive line. We got to get going there. We got to get moving a little bit. Got to get them boys going a little bit. And it's not always the individual. It's cohesive unit. Boys. Go out, have a couple bud lights together, you know, go, go have a nice dinner, Get a little. Get the camaraderie. Go buy a house. All of you guys go live in it together. Goat house. Get yourself a goat house. You know what I'm saying? Online house. Keep Wardy safe. He boardy safe. Onward.
Taylor
I think Ohio State had four guys in the top 15 picks, bro.
Kel Penn
Yeah, I mean, dude, I mean, Sunny
Co-host / Commentator
Styles going to Washington. I think he's going to be a monster bro.
Taylor
Caleb. I think Caleb Downs in Dallas is actually awesome.
Kel Penn
I think that that kid's gonna be there forever.
Jack
Gonna sell a million jerseys.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Jack
I mean, Notre Dame having their one and two running backs go in the first round.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, man.
Kel Penn
Kind of nuts. Great.
Co-host / Commentator
Crazy.
Taylor
Jadarian Price is going to be a stud in Seattle.
Jack
People are saying he's going to have more production because Kenneth Walker's gone. He's going into, you know, super bowl, reigning It's. It's going to be fun to watch both.
Co-host / Commentator
How did Ohio State not win the natty with those freaks? Man.
Kel Penn
Coaching Fernando, right.
Co-host / Commentator
Fernando. But dude, Jeremiah Smith, Cardinal Tate, Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs, Reese.
Jack
Y' all see Fernando's brother kind of get got.
Podcast Host / Advertiser
Yeah, he.
Jack
He was going for the dap up and apparently they re. They re filmed his. His announcement because the youngest brother who's like the sweetheart of America right now tried to go for the dap and then he's just held in the corner and goes back and now they literally. The NFL gave him a segment with Fernando called the Fernando minute. Or it's like the Mendoza minute. And he wants to be a broadcaster and he's probably like 13 or something. He's got a little bit of a lisp that he'll grow out of.
Kel Penn
Cute.
Jack
But you can tell he does have star power for broadcast ability.
Kel Penn
So I hope to love that dude.
Jack
I do hope the best for that kid.
Co-host / Commentator
Dude.
Kel Penn
Oh, Fernando Mendoza. Do you see his. When he got to the Raiders, hit him with a. Let's go.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, Juiced everybody.
Kel Penn
Let's go. And literally I'm just seeing like 40 kids in there too. I'm like, oh, Fernando's already changing, man. He's all. He's already like.
Co-host / Commentator
Once it set in that he said let's go, people like, hey, yeah, yeah, dude.
Kel Penn
I'll tell you what. Raiders are sneaky to me, dude. I think, like, don't look at the process because all the stuff that happened with Max Crosby, but the result is you have Max Crosby who is an absolute, absolute gangster. Like, he's an incredible leader. You bring in Kurt, Kirk Duggans who's going to help Fernando Mendoza in his process. Kubiak, dude, I think is an awesome oc. I can't wait to see how they do this.
Jack
Who are the Raiders top receivers right now?
Kel Penn
That's. That's your problem.
Jack
That's where I think.
Co-host / Commentator
Who'd they get in the draft? Because you're right. That's where. Because it's like. Well, they also have holes in the O line.
Taylor
Kobe Myers last year.
Co-host / Commentator
But as far as like semi skill guys with the running back spot, they've addressed quarterback. The. The pairing with Kirk Cousins and Mendoza is going to elite. Brock Bowers, Michael Mayer, Ashen Genti.
Taylor
What do you guys think? Because me and my. Me and fou were arguing about this. How long do you think Kirk starts before Fernando gets in? Do you think Fernando plays a game this year or. Cause he was on.
Co-host / Commentator
I think Fernando will play Because I don't think the Raiders like again, this is going to take again. They just got in Kubiak, so I think it's going to. You're still a year or two out from being where you want to be from an organization standpoint. But I feel like they've started to trend in the right direction from where everything was kind of falling apart with the Mac stuff, the historically, the last however many years with the Raiders. But I do think they're trending the right way. I. Fernando will go in at some point. Like it's not just going to be Kirk Cousins the entire year in my opinion.
Taylor
I was saying like, let's just say the, like the Raiders are out of the playoffs. There's like five or six games left. I think they throw for Fernando in there to get him some NFL experience going into.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, you know, I, I assume and think it'll be something like that because you got Kirk. Like you don't have to rush this dude to, to start now. He does seems like he, he's very much like a neck up guy and again he's in the room with Kirk like he's going to mentor him. You also got Tom Brady part of that organization. Kubiak is a genius on the offensive side. Like Fernando will get going but you don't have to rush it since you do have Kirk. And unless you're sitting there and you're in a spot to where say the Raiders take off and they're winning games and they're out front and it's Kirk doing it, like I could see him staying with Kirk but if they get to where they're at like a breaking point in the year, you very much can get Fernando going because he will be ready at some point this year. No bad ideas. In a brainstorm for the Raiders, Brandon
Kel Penn
Iuk would be an awesome trade for them.
Co-host / Commentator
Them to bring in as a wide
Kel Penn
receiver could get him very cheap. I saw John lynch talk about that too. Their phones are open. And just because it didn't work out with the 49ers doesn't mean it can't be rekindled somewhere else. Like it's because the leverage that the 49ers have in the draft, like you could probably give up something real low like a seventh, sixth, seventh round pick. I think that's worth looking into.
Co-host / Commentator
Oh yeah.
Kel Penn
Gentlemen, I'm gonna say something that just might be a little uncomfortable. Sex, right?
Taylor
Alright.
Kel Penn
Let's get it out of the way. A lot of times talking about the birds and the bees can be a little bit difficult for all of us. Co-host / Commentator
We do have a tear talk. Speaking of Raiders, speaking of Titans, this one comes from Christopher Daw CT Doss. Matt Bus with the boys wtb. You can follow us everywhere. Of the four teams with three wins this past season, the Jets, Titans, Raiders and Cardinals, who posts the best record this year? Hashtag tear talk talk Titans 1.
Kel Penn
Cardinals 2 Raiders 3. Jets 4. That's how, that's how I rank.
Co-host / Commentator
Just laid it out.
Kel Penn
That's a clean take.
Co-host / Commentator
Clean debate.
Kel Penn
Clean debate. We talked about the Raiders already and how they have too many holes. I don't disagree that the Titans have a lot of holes still, but I love, I've fallen in love with the coaching staff. We are biased, we are biased. Salah Dable I just think those two, the leadership, the culture, the locker room, like, like creatively they're going to find ways to be competitive. Big year for Cam Ward. You got your one wide receiver. I love that Raiders. We talked about Cardinals. I don't know where to put them. Like who's their quarterback right now?
Jack
Carson back in garter Minshew.
Kel Penn
Yeah. And listen, the Cardinals, the state of their franchise they're in. Look at their social media team. Was it what they say? Chris Chase. Chase. Chase Beck. L. Right now we can look in the past a little bit. Go over to 2021. We can see where they got a massive W with Chandler Jones owning bus with the boys in the middle of the game they played Week 1 against the Titans, that was a great post by then objectively. That's funny, still hurts my feelings. But I don't know where to put the Cardinals net and the jets still looking for interception right now.
Co-host / Commentator
Cardinals and jets just organizationally like we're biased and more familiar with Titans and Raiders. It does feel like to me the Titans will post the best record this year because again these teams, they fucked it up so much. The two that I feel like are trying to trend the right way, try to get everything cleaned up in house is the Titans and the Raiders. I am optimistic with Salah Day Ball and Gus Bradley being the three headed monster, the coordinators and the head coach of the Titans, the way that they've drafted, they do need to put up with the O line that they have money into in their first round picks. It does seem like the Titans have the best chance for the best record this year. And again you're in the division with 5th Texans. Defense gonna be insane.
Kel Penn
Defense is gonna be insane. Hopefully Will Anderson's way down a little bit by the money.
Co-host / Commentator
Jags. But then again look at the Raiders like you got what the Chiefs, Chiefs,
Kel Penn
Chiefs, Broncos, Broncos, Chargers, Chargers.
Co-host / Commentator
I mean they're, they're gonna be that division. Like they're all three of them are going to be tough, bro.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Yeah. You put the Titans in a better division for them to be successful.
Co-host / Commentator
Jets just again, organizationally, I just feel like they'll, they always kind of have no shot.
Kel Penn
Right.
Co-host / Commentator
Cardinals I just don't think about a whole lot because again, you got Seattle. They're going to be awesome. Rams are going to be awesome. Niners are going to be awesome. Feels like out of any of those, it feels like Titans to me. Feels like Titans.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Yeah. I like the Titans. I like the Titans being sneaky competitive this year. Sneaky competitive.
Co-host / Commentator
Do have some college football talk here. This come. This one comes from on Spotify. BB Himmel. SEC had the most players drafted every year since 2007. Hashtag
Jack
19 years.
Co-host / Commentator
19 years. Is this the first year the SEC hasn't had the most draft in the first round?
Jack
I don't know.
Co-host / Commentator
Because the Big Ten had the most draft in the first round this year. I want to say the SEC was, was down there with like the ACC, Big 12. But again, conference breakdown this year's draft, SEC had 87, Big 10 at 68. ACC had 38 and the Big 12 had 38.
Kel Penn
Here's a big gap between one and two.
Co-host / Commentator
Here's where I needed you to get you going on AI right now, Sherm, is the Big Ten closing the gap here on most players drafted? 87 and 68 is where we're at this year. How close has it been in years past if we can find that information?
Kel Penn
And if you're an SEC fan, this is even more cause for concern. Like how do you have this many, this much talent get drafted? Yeah, we can't. We got to get more active in the playoffs.
Co-host / Commentator
Right.
Jack
Joe Speeder, like, because the guys are leaving. There won't be as many good players.
Kel Penn
No, no, I'm saying, hey, had a
Co-host / Commentator
good tweet about it.
Kel Penn
19 years. 19 years you guys have owned the draft and how many. And then nil hits. And all of a sudden we got this weird thing going on where the Big Tens won the last three in a row. Like if you are the sec, something's got to give because things aren't adding up. You have all the talent, but, you know, but we can't get over the hunt. I don't get it. I don't understand it because I'm clearly, I'm a very unbiased individual when it comes to like college football. I love watching the games. Obviously I'm biased towards Michigan. Michigan. Other than that, it's like.
Co-host / Commentator
But not really that biased towards Michigan in the Big Ten.
Kel Penn
Not really. No.
Co-host / Commentator
You cover it pretty objectively.
Kel Penn
That's. That's what I try to do.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, that's right.
Kel Penn
Because what we're. This is sports journalism.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Kel Penn
I just look at it from afar and we are an SEC country living in Nashville, Tennessee and it's like I hear every year about these wide receivers. These, all these. Look how much talent we have. Five stars everywhere. And it's like k win it. I just don't. I guess I'm having a hard time. Maybe somebody in the comments could help me understand why the SEC can't get over the hump and the new Nil era. You know?
Co-host / Commentator
You know I, I have a Kevin's Natural Foods Clean take.
Kel Penn
Hold on, hold on. Time out. It looks like we're getting farther and farther away.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, it seems pretty. Yeah. So last year there was 71 in the Big Ten draft and 79 in the SEC. Now do ask this question too. How many first round picks? What's the question, boys by conference
Taylor
the last five years?
Kel Penn
Let's go to the last five years.
Co-host / Commentator
Which conference has had the most first round picks since 2010?
Kel Penn
It's going to be head and shoulders. SEC 1 million head and shoulders.
Co-host / Commentator
But what I'm saying Is I'm trying to build. I'm trying to build something here to where this is the first year the Big Ten has had the most in the first round. So it is changing. The tide is shifting a little bit because Pate had a good tweet about saying it represents college football. Top heavy, Big Ten, all the people in the middle. That's where the SEC lives as far as depth, talent, across the board. It's the sec. Oh,
Kel Penn
I hope that's not true.
Co-host / Commentator
What do we got here?
Kel Penn
Because even if you look at the bowl games, it's like, that's one metric. Where do we hang. That's a big one. Where do we hang the hat this year, Jack? Because I feel you, dude. It's like, man. What's the movie where they. It's called K2. Have you seen the movie K2? I don't think so. Where they're. They're climbing like it's a. Yes. Son and daughter and the dad and they're all climbing this face the rock and the rope slips and the son. Daughter are laying there. Or like they see that the rope's breaking and the dad cuts the rope so him and two other guys fall to save the other two. And I just feel like, when are you gonna put the knife to the.
Dan Orlovsky
The.
Kel Penn
To the rope and cut yourself away to save.
Co-host / Commentator
Will you want to break this down?
Kel Penn
You. You know, when are you going to save your opinion?
Co-host / Commentator
Here's what AI. What's actually happening? Go down. Go down. What's actually happening? That. What? That part with the brain emoji.
Kel Penn
What says actually happening?
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. The SEC has been the dominant NFL pipeline for elite top 32 talent for 15 plus years. I. We all know that the Big Ten is closing the gap. Recently, especially in the last three to five drafts. In 2026, the Big Ten actually beat the SEC in first rounders 10 to 7, snapping the long SEC streak. So this is the first year Big Ten's rising. I do want to say the next one is Sunny Styles. Bro, have you seen the next one?
Kel Penn
Dude, I hate that this has become like a massive like Ohio State podcast. But like the next one is Caleb Downs.
Jack
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. In my linebacker world, objectively, he was
Kel Penn
my favorite prospect in this draft. Like barring injury off field, anything. This guy. Yeah. Put a jacket on him. In my mind, that's the kind of jacket guy this. This is. That's the state in my opinion. I've never watched film seeing guy. Being able to observe the field and react and be in the right place at the Right Time. As well as Caleb Downs has since. Since Luke Keakley.
Co-host / Commentator
Since they talk about how his ability playing from the neck up too. Like, the dude is brilliant. Yeah, yeah.
Kel Penn
Himself a little podcast this year. Like, kids, kids.
Co-host / Commentator
Figure I'm fired up to watch him.
Kel Penn
Yeah, he's impressive. And being in a place like Dallas, where their defense was such an issue last year. Couldn't be a better fit. Could not be a better fit. Man, that is awesome.
Co-host / Commentator
Shout out to Dallas Cowboys, which I'm learning. Welcome to the team. Welcome to the team.
Kel Penn
If I learn anything in the last week, dude, it's Will Compton and Dallas Cowboys.
Co-host / Commentator
I was relearning it, too. We were doing that interview with. With rj and he was bringing up old tweets of my fandom with Dallas, where one of them read like, if we don't beat the Rams, I'll kill myself. Back in my younger days. Y.
Dan Orlovsky
Right.
Co-host / Commentator
Back in my younger days. Back in my younger days. In the younger days, every draft that would happen, I would tweet about the guy and put, welcome to Dallas, Tyron. Tyron Smith. Welcome to the team. Hashtag D. Hey, do you see that
Kel Penn
offensive lineman from Arkansas? Like, I drafted the Titans. And they're like, if you can meet one guy, who would it be? And he said, me and Paul Kaharski just body bagged me. Yeah, it is kind of wild. He's like, what's the kid's name?
Jack
Fernando Carmanda.
Kel Penn
So Fernando Carmanda said that the celebrity he would like to meet is Tara Lawan. And Paul Kaharski was like, he needs to have better, bigger dreams of who?
Co-host / Commentator
To me, like, his celebrity bag is.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Or something like that.
Kel Penn
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I was like, like, that's a Taylor. L sent me that tweet and was like, I miss Paul and his. His chirps towards you. So shout out Paul Kaharski, you piece of.
Co-host / Commentator
I was. I was catching shrapnel on Sunny Styles because there's Washington fans being like, I have had to watch this over the last two decades. And just naming all the linebackers that have played, just Will, Mason Foster, which, by the way, we had some good year. We had some good games, some good memories, some good moments. Yeah, it stopped after. That's where it started when it was me. Like, the list that was going on was like, Will Compton, Perry Riley, Mason Foster, John Bostick. Like, all the backers who have played essentially since 2013, since London Fletcher stopped playing.
Kel Penn
That's funny, dude. Anyway, boys, we feel good.
Co-host / Commentator
Do we feel great? Do we have other stuff? We do have Rookie of the year odds here that's on the FanDuel sportsbook right now. AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. 2026, 2027. Right now, leading the the leading the pack is Jeremiah love, which I at +320. I do like Jeremiah Love. I love Jeremiah Love. What?
Dan Orlovsky
Where's Jarian Price?
Co-host / Commentator
Jadarian Price is fifth on this list. List at +1000. Maai Lemon. 1200. Jordan Tyson. +750. Carnell Tate. +650. Fernando Mendoza. +380. Fernando Mendoza. I wouldn't. I wouldn't stay away from that one because again, I don't think. I think Kirk is going to start the year off as the starter, but who knows?
Kel Penn
I have no clue on the offensive side of the ball if it's not Jeremy Bernard, right? Bust on my FanDuel sportsbook futures, I'm putting Jeremy Bernard and I'll be watching his rookie season extremely closely from an offensive or rookie mvp.
Derek
A thousand yards is your bust meter for him.
Kel Penn
Him. It's got to be, man. It's got to be like he's got. He's got too many comps. He's got too many comps right now.
Dan Orlovsky
Okay?
Derek
And he's for three on the team right now. And he beat out Roman Wilson right now. So there is a little.
Kel Penn
And Roman Wilson, national champion, 100, 100% an absolute stud. So once again, you're kind of just adding the list of why Jeremy Bernard needs to be your offensive Rookie of the Year. And I do want to put in my defensive Rookie of the Year. It's going to be Reuben Bay. I know, but listen, I know, I know, I know.
Co-host / Commentator
Bring up the odds for defensive Player of the year.
Kel Penn
This is why I'm choosing Reuben Bane. I've already said the Caleb Downs thing and how he's going to be incredible. When you watch, I saw a clip and I think I sent it to a couple of you guys. These guys get drafted, right? They grab that, they grab the hat off, they put it on. They look at themselves a little bit and it's this cheery music. When Reuben Bain gets drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he walks by, snatches the hat and doesn't even stop in the mirror to look at it. And you're just like, this motherfucker's out for blood.
Co-host / Commentator
He's got the Christmas.
Kel Penn
He sits there, dude, he sits there, does this, daps up Goodell and it's like, this boy's all about business. Like he is Going to some human beings up this year. I have never been so happy to be out of the NFL in my entire life than watching this guy enter the league. Like short arms or not like that bend that ankle, mobility along with that power. Praise God, Praise Jesus. I'm not in the league right now, okay. I can't. I couldn't handle that.
Co-host / Commentator
Ain't nothing wrong with short arms now. Ain't nothing wrong with short arms.
Kel Penn
Ain't nothing wrong with short arms.
Jack
Hey, people also loved your breakdown on how you would potentially block Reuben Bane. They want more content in that vein. So maybe, yeah, Coach Lou, Coach Lou
Kel Penn
is always up for grabs. I. If there's one thing I love, it's going to and put my hands on some lads, teach them a little bit about the game. Now that would be my game plan and it would work for 3/4 that 4 core. We better be up. You know, we better be. God forbid, you're down by 10 points, you're going to two minute halfway through the fourth, you have a couple series, there ain't no more. Let's play basketball. We got to sit back and pray to God out here a little bit, right? But yeah, think of Marcus Davenport, get rid of the injuries, add a little bit more bench. Okay? Don't want that in my life. All right. Reuben Baines. Built to be a Taylor Lawan. Game over. That being said, ladies and gentlemen, it's the last day you could possibly get Mother's day merch on BWTB.com all of us are dumb men. All of us are dumb men. Unless I for the women that are watching here, moms, they need gifts. We want to give them gifts. We want to show them how good of mothers they are. So go to bwtv.com get some Mother's Day merch and just get it out of the way right now.
Co-host / Commentator
And this is a great reminder because we covered it last week. And you know how with the, with the male brain, it goes one ear out the other. This is another reminder. Get on. Ordering your Mother's Day merch. Milk Team 6 for the moms Mother's Day stuff, it is all out there. You want a wine glass? You want a coffee mug or a tea mug?
Kel Penn
Yeah, anything you want. At this point. Since you've gotten this reminder, it's now on you. If you forget, buddy, like, we're doing the best we can because next week when I remind you again, you're gonna be like, I'm late. I'm gonna say, shit, you're late.
Dan Orlovsky
Late.
Kel Penn
And I don't want to. Your late, dude. Yeah, I want to pat you on the back, you know, just don't in my hand.
Taylor
I'll say it again. Pause the podcast right now and go to the store.
Kel Penn
And Mitch and I'll say this clean advice. Mitch is on a three week heater. And that's a clean take by Mitch Carsley. Shout out Kevin's Natural Foods.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Anybody else have any clean takes before we get out of here? Go ahead.
Derek
I was just gonna say Pittsburgh rips.
Kel Penn
Thank you.
Co-host / Commentator
Pittsburgh rips. Yinzers. Yinzers.
Kel Penn
Yinzers.
Co-host / Commentator
Yin City
Kel Penn
had an absolute blast at the draft.
Co-host / Commentator
And Derek, you crushed it. Being our tour guide, taking us around, walking through parks, spots to eat. What was it? Meat and potatoes?
Derek
Yeah, Dinner. Meat, potatoes, lunch at Cinderlins. These are not shout outs. These are just facts. Got some Reuben's at Modern Cafe. We went in there and. And then we. I think we ordered from Burger King.
Dan Orlovsky
Very late. Late.
Kel Penn
What was the. Yeah, that was a bad move. What was the. The sandwich we ate.
Derek
That is a Perman Brothers now.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Derek
The only thing about that I know Dano brought a pastrami. Anybody going get the capicola with that.
Kel Penn
Get the capola with that sandwich.
Co-host / Commentator
Derek was getting into full character too. He's like, we're going to walk down the street here. Yeah, you really get into the Pittsburgh. You're really getting into the inser and
Kel Penn
dude, cute ass town. Like if you want to call it a town. But the. The hills reminds you of San Francisco a little bit, but it's got the blue collar grid about it. You start, what's that street? We walk down with all the shops.
Co-host / Commentator
Don streets in the strip district.
Kel Penn
The strip district gave me like a little bit of New Orleans vibes with the iron gates on the balconies, people sitting out there, food on the street. We got to sing with the. With Buddy, which I'm so glad I was able to display my voice for Rocket man and Elton John. Just letting you guys know. I got it. I got. I got the juice. Juice. I got the juice a little bit.
Derek
A lot of people were really happy you guys went to Randyland too. That meant a lot to the city of Pittsburgh.
Jack
Very jealous. Watching that place looked unbelievable.
Kel Penn
Jack, you would have loved.
Co-host / Commentator
You would have been upset. You would have left.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Jack would have got a separate Airbnb.
Jack
I've never been to Pittsburgh, but I did a little research. Is it like a museum of art or.
Derek
Yeah, it's a guy named Randy's actual house and it was two blocks from the Airbnb and it is he literally his back backyard. He just has it open and then dumped basically everything from what you would assume is a worldwide garage sale in there. But it's orchestrated chaos and it's beautiful. It's all just his outside. But it's. It's awesome.
Dan Orlovsky
Looked awesome.
Co-host / Commentator
Did we got to hit the local lemonade stand?
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
But their neighbors. He had the stoop kids. Took some photos with the stoop kids.
Kel Penn
Stupid photos.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. Got him some candy. Uncle Jared got him some candy.
Kel Penn
That was you guys out of candy? Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Not anymore.
Co-host / Commentator
That was so creepy.
Kel Penn
I was walking away. I was like some grown ass man walked up to my kids and was like, you guys want candy? I'd be like, get the. What are you doing?
Co-host / Commentator
Group idea. These. These. We were cool with the parents though. Like, we were.
Kel Penn
We were. We were cool with the parents. That said as cool as we were with the parents if she was in their flip. Like, no. Thank you so much. We appreciate that. As soon as you guys watch my. I don't know what's in this candy. I gotta protect these chillings.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
But we went and like introduced ourselves first. They were kind of setting up. Are you guys going to be out here later in the afternoon? We will be back. We'll be buying up some lemonade. Got to meet the. Got to meet the parents are like, oh, what's the camera doing? You guys do content? They probably figured out who we were and what we did.
Kel Penn
Yep.
Co-host / Commentator
Who's the old boy? Oh boy.
Dan Orlovsky
The guy's name.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, yeah. I'm forgetting his name. I'm forgetting his name. So I hate that I'm forgetting his name. But anyway, we come back the second time when we bought the lemonade. Fired up buying all the lemonade, tipping them well. And you know, everybody was fired up that we were there visiting the lemonade stuff stand. We figured out they were out of candy so we went and bought them candy.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
So there was a relationship. There's a rapport there. Yeah. And then it wasn't weird until Will was like, hey, call him Uncle Jared. It's like, what the hell are you talking about? We were coming over. Like, uncle Jared's giving you candy. I was telling the call you Uncle Jared.
Kel Penn
The whole time you're talking, I'm listening. But I'm also just thinking about the movie Prisoners and I'm out. Have you seen Prisoners?
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. It's a scary movie.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Got to watch that movie.
Dan Orlovsky
Shout out Brian J.
Derek
Games.
Kel Penn
Shout out the movie Prisoners too. Dude, that's clean. Great movie.
Co-host / Commentator
Great movie. Clean take, clean take, Clean take. It's be a fun interview with Danny O.
Kel Penn
Enjoy. Big hugs, Tiny kisses this Mother's Day

Kel Penn
Ladies and gentlemen, it is a very special time of year. It is draft season. Draft right now, when we're filming this, the draft is tomorrow. We have a very special guest in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A gentleman put at the University of Connecticut, lost in the national championship this past year is a mainstay on not just ESPN but also the Pat McAfee Show. He has his own show. He goes on the show when we go on there on Thursdays.
Co-host / Commentator
He goes on 800.
Kel Penn
He goes on 800 shows. Just lost a bet to myself where he has to wear a earring for a whole month. Let's give it up for Danny O. Dan Roski. Hey.
Dan Orlovsky
Please address the not only lost that bet, I also lost a worse bet in the last week than that one cold streak. So the bet that Taylor and I made, or I initially wanted you to be a part of it because I kind of, like, thought you guys were tandem. You quickly were like, I don't want any action. You did. You bailed on it.
Kel Penn
Can I just real quick get a quick 30 on that? There was a moment there where Will did try to bring busing with the boys into this. Like, let's make this a. Let's get bus in. Yeah, a little bit more. And I basically held up the knife. I go, I want this kill.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, you.
Kel Penn
This is the kill that I want.
Dan Orlovsky
You were very confident. I wasn't, like, overly confident going into it.
Co-host / Commentator
You do talk very no confident.
Dan Orlovsky
Well, if I was that confident, I would have done the piercing part of the bet. But I knew I didn't know. But I was like, this is a long shot. So we went with the clip on. The wording of the bet is the big part, because it doesn't say I have to do it a specific month. It says I have to wear it for a month straight. So I get to choose the month, which is a win for me. I'll probably do it one day in June or July. That'll probably be the only day that I'm on TV and it'll be done.
Co-host / Commentator
And so you knew. Hey, the devil was in the details. You kind of knew. I get to control.
Dan Orlovsky
You guys are businessmen. You should have. You've worked at contracts before, I'm sure,
Kel Penn
agreements before, you know, what sucks about what you're saying right now is I spent probably too much time going over.
Dan Orlovsky
You texted me, like, three or four times.
Kel Penn
I was with JP and we were flying to the national championship, and I was like, hey, I need you to read over this. I went over, edited a bunch of things. I'm like, I got to make sure that he. He thumbs up this exact text so there's no way for him to get out of it. Or like, no, I thought you said this or that. We had that final text. Yeah. I have you to find a loophole of, like, I'll do it one day and then.
Dan Orlovsky
Well, it says for a month straight. It doesn't say for the next month.
Kel Penn
Every piece of content.
Dan Orlovsky
Correct.
Kel Penn
That you're on.
Dan Orlovsky
Correct.
Kel Penn
A month straight.
Dan Orlovsky
Right. And if you miss a day, it restarts the month.
Kel Penn
Yes.
Dan Orlovsky
So once I saw that, I was like, I'm pretty much good. I'll. I'll do it one day in June or July.
Co-host / Commentator
And you're also thinking to yourself, like, even if I stop and the month starts over, it's. It's up to you. You could do this years down the road.
Dan Orlovsky
No, I'll do it. I'll do it. But I mean, again, I'm going to do it. Like, I. I think in June and July, I work one day each month because there's not a ton going on, football wise. That's a little bit of, like, get away and get ready for the season and push. So I'll do it one day for that month.
Kel Penn
Does that. Do you feel any type of way that Adam Schefter retweeted it? The public was.
Dan Orlovsky
Eventually, I wanted to text. I almost texted Shefty Legit, and I love Chef D. I almost texted him. I said, are you done? Like, are you. Have you had enough? But I didn't, because he's Chef D. I didn't want to disrespect them, but, yeah, people had to run with that. That was like a. That was a good 24 hours.
Kel Penn
Chef, he's like.
Dan Orlovsky
He's got.
Kel Penn
I don't. I'm not saying he does, but he. He could definitely have connects. Like, he's the type of guy you don't want to cross.
Co-host / Commentator
Oh, 100 sometimes on the inside.
Kel Penn
I hit him. I hit him with the. Hey, just so you know, this breaking news just released when it was dance thing thing, and he's like, retweeting now. Came back in six seconds like, man, family guy has kids. How do you. How does he have time?
Dan Orlovsky
Chef is the Best person. Two, my. Two of my favorite Chefy stories. One was really a story. One once, probably like four years ago, I was listening to Chefy tell a story, and he. I don't know who he was talking to. I think Greeny was one of the people, and he was just like, 90% of the stuff I hear, I don't share. Right. When he said that, I was like, you run the NFL. Like, you have. You know exactly what's going on with the NFL. But when I first started working at espn, so like, eight years ago, I sent out a tweet with the emoji eyes. Just that I don't remember for what he called me. Within 30 seconds, he's like, what's that? I'm like, what do you mean? He's like, what's your tweet about? And I was like, oh, I don't know. I just. I think I'm being stupid or something like that. And he was like, like, don't do that.
Co-host / Commentator
Really? Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
He's like, don't. Don't do that. Because if you do that, it makes me think that something's going on. And, you know, and I was like, I. I will not. I will. I. I'm sorry. I will not do that. Yeah, he's.
Kel Penn
That. You think he's on it.
Co-host / Commentator
You think he's got a lot of people's notifications turned on?
Kel Penn
I don't know.
Dan Orlovsky
I'm sure some people. I'm sure the people that he thinks matter. I don't think that was the case
Co-host / Commentator
with me because I was, well, maybe you met. Maybe the notification popped up. Up, maybe.
Dan Orlovsky
But he was like, yeah, don't do that. I was like, got it.
Kel Penn
Do you have an urge when you're around a guy like Shefty to be like, I kind of want to know some inside ball? Maybe I could bring something to Chefy that he might not know. Have you ever brought information to him? Him be like, oh, I haven't heard of that.
Dan Orlovsky
No. So this is the thing. Someone asked me about this a couple weeks ago in regards to, like, some of the draft stuff that certainly the Ty Simpson comments that I've had and
Kel Penn
insane what you say, no, go. I was letting you finish.
Dan Orlovsky
I had tickled. And I don't like talking to, like, coaches and GMs for information. I feel like it skews the way that I do my job or would do my job. Like, during the season, if I'm watching tape and it's. Something on the tape says something to me. I just want to do it. Like, I don't want to, like, call the coach, confirm if is what I'm seeing, because every organization and every coach is going to try to make it look better than it might be or whatnot, you know? And so, like, Like, I don't ever do that. I did it this past after I said some of the Ty Simpson stuff. I did reach out to a bunch of people, like coaches, general managers, executives, kind of like, like, am I out of my mind here? But other than that, like, I. I don't. I don't like to do that. I. And I also don't want to, like, ever want. I don't ever want those people to feel like I'm using our friendship for that stuff.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Have you never done that? You've always operated that way, like when you first came into it, where you kind of help try to get utilizing coaches or anything like that?
Dan Orlovsky
I've never done that. I don't want to do that again. I just, I think that would just. It would change my vantage point. It would skew my vantage point. Now I've gone on TV and done some stuff and had coaches reach out to me, and I've had a coach or two, like, read me the riot act a little bit. I've had friendships.
Co-host / Commentator
What's been, what's been your crazy story where you don't. You're not like, labeling any. Anything or labeling anybody or tell his names.
Kel Penn
Who cares?
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. Or if you feel like they'd be okay with it, we're an open book.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't know if they'd be okay with you okay with it, but I've done some, like, film breakdowns and I've been fairly critical. And then I've had coaches reach out to me and be like, you don't. I've got a family. This isn't right, what you're doing. You're trying to get me fired. I've had a friend do that, and I've been like, you. You think I'm trying to get you fired? Dude, like, seriously, I've known you for. For 20 years. You think I'm trying to get you fired? Seriously, it's the balance of the job, and we're trying to do it as good as possible. But yeah, I mean, I've had coaches probably two or three times reach out and been like, dude, what the heck? I wish you would have reached out to me first. And I say. I always say, like, I get that, but then I'm not doing my job. I don't. I'm not an insider. So that's not my job. Like, my job is to analyze football, you know, and have an opinion on the football.
Co-host / Commentator
So has there ever been a moment where somebody reached out to you and then it weighed on you afterwards where you're like, I kind of messed that
Taylor
up,
Co-host / Commentator
or I should have framed this better because I see where he's coming from?
Dan Orlovsky
No, I would say this. I think every conversation I've had is, like, afterwards, within a short period of time, you sit there and be like, dang, man's.
Co-host / Commentator
Did.
Dan Orlovsky
Did I. Did I cross a line or do I. Do I regret saying it that way? I think the one of them. I probably could have worded something a little bit differently. I used the phrase coaching malpractice in one that was probably aggressive. I don't know if I regret using it because I felt that way in the. In the time, but I understand, like, how that can come across. I would tell you the only regret I ever have in doing the job on TV was early on, I. I regret the way that I talked about Dak. I was, like, pretty hard on Dak early on. Not. Not hard, like, critical of the performance. I probably went to buffoonery over the top when him and Carson Wentz. And that would be the only one that I would probably truly regret. Like, yeah, if I ever met Dak, I've never met him. I would walk up to him, shake his hand, and be like. Like, I was wrong. I crossed the line. If he told me to go kick rocks, I would understand why. Type of thing.
Kel Penn
Did he ever. Did he ever say anything about the. The buffoonery that was taking place as Dak? Did he ever tweet about it? You know, like, athletes?
Dan Orlovsky
No, I don't think.
Kel Penn
Sub tweets.
Dan Orlovsky
No, I don't think so.
Kel Penn
Like that. Dallas fans. Yeah, you might. Might have been one of them. Might have been.
Dan Orlovsky
You might have One of them might
Kel Penn
have been you was a coaching malpractice. Was that referring to the Philadelphia Eagles this past year?
Dan Orlovsky
No, no, no. But I. I did. Sirianni did call me. Have I ever told you guys that story?
Co-host / Commentator
I don't think so.
Dan Orlovsky
So my wife's a Philly girl. Die hard. Philly girl. Maniac. Philly fan.
Co-host / Commentator
Same with Clump and his wife. She's a maniac.
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, there's one. They're all the same. And so we went out to dinner, and I was pretty critical of the Eagles, and I was pretty critical of Sirianni, and all of a sudden, we're just about pulling into our Driveway. And I didn't have his number, so I don't know how, but a phone call pops up, and it says, nick Sirianni. And she looks at me from the passenger seat, and she's like, oh, my gosh. And I look at him like, what? And she's like, are you gonna answer that? And I'm like, of course I'm gonna answer that. So I pull into the garage, I answer the phone, and she is, like, sweating.
Kel Penn
She.
Dan Orlovsky
She will not move. She's out of her mind, nervous. And we talked for 15 minutes. It was a great conversation. It's the only time I've talked to him on the phone type of thing. Great conversation. No, no bad feelings. Nothing like that. But she would not move. She would not get out of the car. She was so nervous.
Kel Penn
God, I love that the Philly fan base is out of hand.
Dan Orlovsky
They're maniacs.
Kel Penn
They're me. It's the best compliment you can get as a fan base. Oh, very nice. Very. They don't get very loud. All those things are. You can put that to the side. Psychopaths grease the pole polls. You better watch out if they win something, because then cars are getting flipped over. That's the kind of fan base I want.
Co-host / Commentator
We can talk about our team. You can't talk.
Kel Penn
Exactly.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Yeah. The fact that they're booing the. They're booing their home team at halftime when they're up by only three points is just. That's the kind of fan base wouldn't want to play for it. Probably couldn't handle it very well.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, dude. But when you're good, it's awesome.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Yeah. If you're Jason Kelsey, you might have the best life.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Of all time. Time.
Co-host / Commentator
So you're a regretful phrase. Is coaching malpractice? It's not.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't regret that phrase. No. But I can understand, like, from a coach's perspective, having someone go on TV and say that. Like, I can understand him being, like, ticked off about it.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
But I don't know if I regret it, because I felt it. Like, I truly felt it.
Co-host / Commentator
What about how many big games has he won?
Dan Orlovsky
But that. That was so taken out of context, dude. And it doesn't. The reason why I haven't explained it, because it doesn't sense.
Kel Penn
Make.
Co-host / Commentator
Make.
Dan Orlovsky
It doesn't do anything.
Co-host / Commentator
It doesn't make sense. Like, it's wrong.
Dan Orlovsky
No. So this is. This is the story of that. This is the story of that. I think I had made the Simpson comments the day before Pat FaceTimed me. He, you're an idiot. You're. Blah, blah, blah. Come on the show tomorrow. I said, I got a ton to go on, but I. I'll. There's a group of people that I always say yes to, like Greeny Green. He. My first chance on tv, essentially. Like, I always say yes to him. Schrager, Stephen, A. Pat. Because they've given me so many opportunity. Okay, I gotta run. I'm in my car. I obviously know what Pat is going to get into, so I have done my research as well. And so in the moment, we're having the conversation and he makes the comment of all these big games. And I say in the literal sense, okay, what big game? Because I wanted to talk about what specific big game. And it just went like, deep butts in the background, going to college football play. And then Pat went forever. I was trying to talk. That's when you see me look out the window. I'm like, Like, I know how this is going to go. Because I was like, talking about Iowa, Penn State, Big Ten title. Natty. Like, I wanted to know what specific big game he wanted to get into. Because those big games, to me, I don't. I, like, I watched the Iowa game and I'm like, I don't think Fernando plays well. Has a nice comeback. He throws a slant versus cover zero and it's a broken tack over 65. But I'm not like the Penn State game, he doesn't play good. Now, great drive, great drive, great drive.
Kel Penn
Elite drive.
Dan Orlovsky
But he doesn't play good in the game.
Co-host / Commentator
Big game.
Dan Orlovsky
The Big Ten title game. Doesn't play good.
Co-host / Commentator
Big game.
Dan Orlovsky
Did he make a big throw late? Yeah, but like, yes, yes. He gets. He's clutch. He's national title game, doesn't play good. He's clutch. No doubt.
Kel Penn
Nice run for a dozen, but he got eaten up a couple of times. Got back up. Sure, there's a lot of better.
Dan Orlovsky
But that was one.
Kel Penn
Other than the national championship, I don't know.
Dan Orlovsky
But that was the big game thing. It wasn't like, whoop your games. It was like, okay, what. What literal big.
Co-host / Commentator
How fun was that day for you Going viral, You're pro. And great swap of the profile photo as well.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, that's. I stole that from Deba. I think the Internet's a funny place to be. You mean you guys live on it, right?
Co-host / Commentator
Or you're out there on the Internet?
Dan Orlovsky
I grew up on it as well. Right. Because I. That's how I got the open opening to go work At ESPN and auditions was. I started posting breakdowns on social media. I was never a big social media fan, so, like, I. I have great appreciation for it. I have an awareness of, like, the power of it. And I know, I know. Don't go on, but sometimes I just get sucked into the vortex of it. That was a tough 24 hours, man.
Kel Penn
Oh, you got sucked in the vortex at that point.
Dan Orlovsky
Then when I said that, that was a 24 to 48 hour stretch where it was like, this is a lot, everyone.
Co-host / Commentator
Then he drops the. The kindness quote the next morning.
Dan Orlovsky
No, that was that night.
Co-host / Commentator
That was that day.
Dan Orlovsky
That was. I was taking my son to tennis practice and he had to get his thing as racket restrung. And it was right, like walking into the tennis store and I was like, all right, I'll fire this one out there. Probably shouldn't have.
Kel Penn
Is there any worse feeling than putting out a tweet? Just trying to put out a fire somehow. You're like, ah, that and dumbest thing.
Dan Orlovsky
Like, it's the dumbest thing. It's because I'm. I know. Don't go to the mentions.
Kel Penn
Don't do it.
Dan Orlovsky
But I do. Yeah.
Kel Penn
Especially as you get older. It's more fun, though.
Co-host / Commentator
Especially when that situation. The. What big games and the. The meme photo, like, the meme that came of it, it was. It was peak.
Dan Orlovsky
You texted me.
Co-host / Commentator
I think I said, how you doing?
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, you texted me. Nice shoot. And then you sent me a voice. A voice thing. Because you took texting me and I fired back at you like something.
Co-host / Commentator
I forget what it was, but you were. And then I used it
Dan Orlovsky
here.
Kel Penn
There's been a couple times that Will has put you in a box, put you in a corner during espn. You and Hawk love the kind of pin.
Co-host / Commentator
Are you talking about like a breakfast club or something?
Kel Penn
No, right after. It's always after the show. After we finish the show.
Dan Orlovsky
No, I don't.
Kel Penn
Dude, you sound so stupid sometimes. You've had some takes. The one that was going around when
Co-host / Commentator
we were talking about jaylen being top 10, and you're like, yeah. And then I'm like, name me. I was like, here, I got a list right here. But that's named about 14.
Dan Orlovsky
You're not. You're not. Oh, my God.
Co-host / Commentator
And then you're like. And then you're like, see you.
Kel Penn
That's real.
Co-host / Commentator
You got to stop thinking top 10. Like, get out of your.
Dan Orlovsky
That's what I'm saying.
Kel Penn
Some context. So we are. There's an argument about Jaylen Herz a season that he had this past year. People are kind of going at the oc but is it also Jalen Hurts? And look at AJ Brown. All these guys seem mad at him. So at some point during the season, you're talking about Jalen Hurts, top 10 quarterback Will took the stance of. No, he's not right now. That's not. That's not the case. Once that started to go down during commercial breaks, I would just see Will looking up things and writing down things in a pad. I'm like, dude, we've done the work. Like, we know what's coming out. We've already talked about all the things. I have no idea. As soon as that show ended, you just hit him with 14 people. And now just. I want to give context to the, to the viewer out there, because I
Co-host / Commentator
was like, yo, you think James is top 10 quarterback? He's like, yeah, no question.
Dan Orlovsky
But you can.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, that's the show. I brought a list. All right. Like, all right, let's go over these because here's.
Dan Orlovsky
But my thing on it is this dude, it's. It's an outrageous thing to say that a guy who in the last. I think he's been starting for four or five years, I don't know the exact number, is like top five in yards. He's top five in touchdowns. He's gone to the super bowl twice. He's been the best player in the super bowl in both of them. And won MVP and one. And won the Super Bowl. It's an outrageous thing to say at
Co-host / Commentator
that position when you're talking about achievement.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, but that's my point. But. And I also said if we took them all out, all the quarterbacks out onto the field and just threw it, I wouldn't have Jalen as a top 10 player.
Co-host / Commentator
No, you eventually said that when you realize.
Dan Orlovsky
No, that was always been my stance.
Co-host / Commentator
And then all we do, like our crew. All we do is just talk about how you're so dumb. Get better, be better.
Kel Penn
Yeah. And then at breakfast club, Dan will just hear a question. He'll just answer it. So a matter of fact. So a matter of fact, hey, if this receiver was on the same. He go 1600 yards. Oh, Dan, how'd you.
Dan Orlovsky
You gotta have conviction with what was. If there's too many analysts are scared of being wrong. That's my true belief.
Co-host / Commentator
Cuz, what was the game. Was it the packers game going into their playoff game against the Bears, by
Dan Orlovsky
the Bears, When I was like, I don't think that I. I don't see how. How they. The Bears win.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. I think I came up to you, Breakfast Club, and I was like, hey, who you got this weekend of the Packers? Bears. You're like, well, packers, they're going to kill them.
Dan Orlovsky
I was so right.
Co-host / Commentator
So you're like, they're. They're going to kill them.
Dan Orlovsky
I was right for three quarters. I was so right, dude.
Kel Penn
What's the most wrong you've ever been on a tape?
Dan Orlovsky
So on the background of that is when I first got into tv, someone was like, you're not expected to be right in this business. Like, that's not your job. I totally disagree with that. What's the fudging point of doing all the work if I don't want to be right? Anybody can literally go say anything and be. Not. Not worry about being wrong. Like, I want to be right, dude. So the most wrong I've been. I mean, this is a little bit of in the moment. I was like, carson Wentz is better than Dak. I was right for a year. Felt good about that one.
Kel Penn
Apologize to Jack on the show. Ten minutes later is like, carson Wentz is better than that.
Dan Orlovsky
I was right for the year. I. Anthony Richardson could be up there. I thought Richardson would be a better player. I was like, I would. I would highly, like, entertain taking him number one overall that year. Other than that, has there ever been a struggle?
Co-host / Commentator
Other than that, I've never been wrong.
Kel Penn
I've never missed. Even if he's talking about those losses, he talks about how right he was for that finite amount of time.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Has there ever been. Have you ever had a struggle getting into this business after being an athlete for most of your life? Being critical of athletes?
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, yeah. I think the two hardest things for me are, one, being critical of. Of people that I have relationships with with, because I know you have to do it. And those relationships are important to me and, like, loyalty and friendship and. I mean, I only played team sports, and I come from, like, a broken family, so my teammates were my family. Like, I loved my teammates more than I loved my family. So, like, if you were a teammate of mine, it is that those. Those are some moments that are hard for me. I think the second thing, it's probably the most prominent thing is, like, it was a little bit of a struggle, and I still unconscious of it. Like. Like, I gotta go on and be critical of Patrick Mahomes.
Kel Penn
Me.
Dan Orlovsky
I. I was a backup for 12 years. Like, that's a little bit in the
Co-host / Commentator
back of the end zone clip, though, forever. Well, but That's. That's true. Yeah. You know? Yes. You get what I'm saying?
Dan Orlovsky
Of course.
Kel Penn
Yeah, dude. Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Critical of this guy.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah. Like, you.
Co-host / Commentator
You actually.
Dan Orlovsky
You're telling me that this guy's not playing good, or you're telling me that I gotta, like. Like, I got to be critical of guys that are obviously, clearly. I mean, everyone's a better player than me, essentially, at that position, you know, if we're talking about them. So I'm conscious of. Was probably something that was on my mind a little bit more before or starting of my career. But nowadays I just want to do the. The job better than everybody else. That's all I want to do. And if guys hate me for it, they hate me for it. If I cross the line, I will be honest with myself and apologize like I did with the CJ stuff this year.
Kel Penn
But is there. How long did that take you in the eight years you've been in the industry to, like, get to the point where you're like, at the end of the day, I'm just trying to be the best at my job.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, I think it was probably my third or fourth year in the business. It was. I think it was the 2020 or 21 season was when first NFL live first kind of got together and started to gain a little bit of traction of like, okay, we're trying to do this show the right way. We're halfway through the season. I don't think Patrick was playing well. And I remember just having the thought in my mind of previous weeks being like, man, mechanically he's really bad right now. Mechanically, he's really bad right now. Mechanically, he's really bad right now. And it got to the point where I called our producer, Mike Eisman, and I was like, hey, I want to do a tape on Mahomes. I think right now, he's mechanically the worst quarterback in football. And he was like, like, you sure you want to do that? And I said, I'm completely aware who I am. I'm completely aware who Patrick is. You just got to trust me. Like, this is. This is. I've got to do this. Like, this is what's going on. And I did it, and I felt like I did it the right way. And, yeah, so I think, like, that was a turning point for me to be like, just do it the right way. Like, if you do it the right way and if you.
Co-host / Commentator
You're.
Dan Orlovsky
If you show why you are saying what you're saying, I. I always believe, like, the tape that we know that X Player So yeah, like three or four years maybe.
Kel Penn
All right, boys. We end up this episode to bring you Form Energy. Form Energy delivers best in class taste with natural flavors and zero sugar. What is the ultimate goal in this business for you?
Kel Penn
It's a great question.
Co-host / Commentator
North Star.
Dan Orlovsky
I think it's always a moving target. I mean, you guys know the media landscape changes literally by the year. So it's a little bit of a moving target. I've always wanted to be on the most important stuff at the place that I'm at and respected in doing it. So right now, like the ultimate goal, I mean, I'm at espn, so the ultimate goal would be able to call Monday Night Football, but that's always an ever changing thing. I, you know, so it's like if I could be on the most important stuff at whatever place I'm employed at and, and be respected with what I'm doing, then that's the goal.
Kel Penn
Moving target.
Co-host / Commentator
Want your own show? The Danio, The Danny Ocean show.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't think I'm being, I'm being dead honest here. I don't think I would be good on my own show. I don't have. I, I'm better, like being around people that are better than me. Like, then I don't think I could like run my own show, command my own show, be good on my own show. Like, I'm much better on tv when I'm with Marcus, then I'm not with Marcus. And I don't know why. Because I think, well, because Marcus is like. He brings just out the best of you type thing. But yeah.
Kel Penn
When did. So we talked about the home saying essentially it's like, okay, I can be critical without being insulting. That's. That's essentially with the line you came across.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
And when I, when I just think about our experience we've had this past fall with you. What was so impressive to me obviously as the operation that ESPN has incred has incredible greenie the way he's essentially ocd, but he like runs the entire room the whole time. And you'd sit in your little zoom call dark lit and you just have, you'd have a, a tape for everything. Yes. Like how. What is your process like to find this tape? Because there's, I mean every single week there's so many games that take place.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
How do you fixate on, okay, I need to watch these games. Do you watch every single game? Then do you break down. You find the games that are most important to you and then break down the film of those games?
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
And through those you're like, hey, what's the leading storyline here for me? Like how is your process truly? I'm just trying to get inside ball for my own self.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
How do we all kind of grow in this?
Dan Orlovsky
I do, I never watch, I never go into a game trying to find anything. I just watch the game kind of like how I did as a player on Sunday. I usually have a pretty good idea on Monday morning from our producers that will be on Monday morning. Shows of like, these are the games that we're most likely going to talk about. There's usually a group of five to seven, depending on the time of year. Sunday, I'll start re watching the games that happened at 1 o'. Clock. At about 5 o'. Clock. I will re watch all the important Sunday games. Sunday night I start at 5. I probably go to about 11 or 12 12. I don't watch Sunday night football. I wake up at 4 o' clock on Monday morning. I watch Sunday Night Football. 5 o', clock, 5:30 or so, hop in the car. I will, I will re watch. And I, after every one of those games, I take videos to make those tapes. So I take videos of every game, two different videos. One, my thoughts on the game. And I give like one of the things that I learned at get up was I don't, I, I don't like watching football or Sports analysis. And the highlight is a generic highlight and the person's talking about something that I'm not seeing. So like, I'll watch the game. Okay, Second quarter commanders versus the Eagles. And I'll say like, hey, the commanders ran the football really well to the perimeter and so I'll sell them. Second quarter, 8, 33, third quarter, 9, 41, fourth quarter, 615. So like the highlight is what I want it to be type of thing. So I'll give them that, that in my thoughts on the game and then I'll give them tapes that I want breaking, broken down. Like I want not every game, like three. You know, at tv, you, you got to prioritize things. So I'll break down literally like four or five minute videos that get cut into like 10 second tapes. Like, I want you to highlight this receiver when he gets to five yards. I want you to point an arrow going in, give me the quarterback's eyes and so that I send those so the editors overnight can cut those for Monday morning morning. On the ride in Monday morning, I'll watch another game. So usually by Monday morning I've had like six to seven games watched. Do Monday tv, hop in the car, go to Bristol. That's two hours. I'll watch two more games on the way in. On the ride home from NFL Live, it's about an hour home from my house and this is if we're not traveling. So I'll watch another game. So usually by Monday night, give or take, I've seen eight to 10 games with the same process. And then Tuesday, wake up, watch three or four more. Wednesday, usually finish the games every snap.
Kel Penn
So by Wednesday you're cooking.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah. When by Thursday I'm dead. But that's why Thursday morning for me was like such a blessing with you guys this year, honestly, because, like, it was a lot of fun. You know, it was still a good amount of football for me because I am a little bit like on the nerdy football side, but a, A good balance of like just having fun and saying crazy stuff. I don't think you can go on TV and say wrong things nowadays because of social media. Like, I think if you're a sports analyst and you go on TV and you say something that's wrong, you're dead. You can say something that's maybe opinionated and people are, you're out of your mind. But if I went on TV and was like, Man, Jalen Hurts and A.J. brown's connection is just absolutely perfect. You're. You're dead. Like, because of social media gets clipped off, it gets spread like wildfire and like, you're gonna get disproven. So, like, I, I don't have a comfort level of talking about stuff unless I've seen it. So, like, there's a, there's a paranoia about it in that as well.
Co-host / Commentator
Is there a wall that you hit during the season?
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, yeah, like middle of November, second week of November, I'm like, please, God, just get to November or Thanksgiving and then. And you get to the middle of December. It kind of sucks because more often than not, like, you know who the playoff teams are and you know who the playoff teams aren't, but you still got to watch the non playoff teams because you just never know. Team could win four in a row late, or three in a row late, team could lose, and then all of a sudden you're going to the playoffs and you look like an idiot. Because of my ego, I also like to shoot my shot, like on this team's three and six. But I can see them getting in, into it, you know, and if you're not watching tape, I don't think you can do that. So. Yeah.
Kel Penn
How much after the football season, because we get the super bowl and my brain is. That was a lot. I can't wait to get a little, essentially a break from football. When do you start to get the bug again? Like, right now, I'm sitting here at the draft and I'm like, you know what? Yeah, I could use some ball right now.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
But you catch me in the middle of March, St. Patty's Day. I'm not thinking. I don't even want to talk about ball. I'm not thinking about ball at all. What's your. How long do you have to get away from the season before you're like,
Dan Orlovsky
all right, yeah, probably like good three weeks. I would be longer if I could, but I can't because of, you know, like the draft coming up. I think one of the things I learned in probably my second or third year at espn, and I say this respectfully, and so hopefully people don't take it out of context. The best thing about ESPN is it's 24 7, so there's a great opportunity. The worst thing about ESPN is it's 24 seven, so, like, there's a lot of work, you know, And I think if you're not, one of the things I learned was like, you got to be so disciplined to get away. Because if you're not disciplined getting away, you can work for years straight and not turn it off. And then I think your work suffers. Like, I remember again, my second or third year calling Seth Markman, who's one of the executives at espn, and I said, I need time away. Like, I need. And he was like, that's not necessarily how it goes. And I was like, if you want me to be the best in October, like, I have to get away. So I try to do it as much as I can. And then probably like second week of March is when I'll start to really dive into the college kids. And that takes a good month or so. And by the middle of April, like, very confident going into the draft stuff, but. And then after the draft, probably still stay somewhat locked in to, like, schedule release. And then literally from middle of May to try to be like the middle of August, like, turn it off, turn it off.
Co-host / Commentator
Do you enjoy doing the draft? I love breaking down the college prospects.
Dan Orlovsky
I love it. I love it.
Co-host / Commentator
You feel like you're good at it?
Kel Penn
Yes.
Co-host / Commentator
Like, guys that are. Who are guys that are flourishing right now in the league that you're like, I knew that that was going to be a guy.
Dan Orlovsky
I was a. Okay, so I started in 18. So going back to then, I was a Josh guy. I was a Lamar guy. But, like, I also liked Josh Rosen. I thought Josh Rosen would be a better player than he was. I was a Sam guy as a Baker guy. I was a love guy. Cam Word. Last year, I loved Jaden Drake. I was a fan of Caleb's, but, you know, it was controversial because I was like, I like Jaden more. I also like J.J. mcCarthy. So I've had Mrs. For sure. But those guys.
Co-host / Commentator
Now you're a Ty Simpson guy.
Dan Orlovsky
I am.
Kel Penn
And he didn't bring up Jalen Harts once.
Dan Orlovsky
I was critical of when Philly took Jalen fourth round.
Kel Penn
Right.
Co-host / Commentator
That's when they had his second round. They had his boy Carson.
Kel Penn
That's right. He was swinging the flag for Carson.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Yeah. So what is going on? Why do you dislike Fernando Mendoza, that is.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't dislike him.
Kel Penn
You look at that guy on the field, how do you not just be like that?
Dan Orlovsky
I've never seen him.
Co-host / Commentator
In your mind, what is Fernando Mendoza's overall rating in Madden?
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, man. Trying to get me in trouble again? I don't know. Are rookies generally scaled lower? I don't play video games.
Co-host / Commentator
They're generally scaled lower.
Dan Orlovsky
Like in the 70s?
Co-host / Commentator
Could be. Yeah, it would be higher. If you're like, what was cam low? 80s.
Kel Penn
83, probably.
Dan Orlovsky
I would probably
Co-host / Commentator
84 to 78. Range in these first rounds?
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, I would have like 75.
Co-host / Commentator
Then you'd have Mendoza. 75. 84 to 78. You're saying 75.
Dan Orlovsky
I like Cam Ward as a prospect better than Fernando.
Kel Penn
Yes. What are the. What are the discrepancies you're seeing where
Co-host / Commentator
you got Ty Simpson?
Dan Orlovsky
I would probably have Ty simpson Probably around 75
Co-host / Commentator
last year before the season.
Dan Orlovsky
Thank you for that clarification.
Co-host / Commentator
There we go. Can't just be wrong.
Dan Orlovsky
So. Yeah, yeah, 72 before the season.
Podcast Host / Advertiser
Season.
Dan Orlovsky
It went up, up. Then I would probably have him at 70. 68. 70, something like that.
Co-host / Commentator
Why don't you want to say 69?
Dan Orlovsky
That's where my thermostat is set in the house.
Kel Penn
Nice. Nice. You like to sleep cold.
Co-host / Commentator
So you got, you got Ty.
Dan Orlovsky
Love to sleep.
Co-host / Commentator
You got Ty Simpson. My wife's too cold. In the same vein. So if you got Fernando at a 70, you're putting Ty at a 70.
Dan Orlovsky
Yes. This is the way that, like, I. Okay, so I just watched the tape. When I started watching Fernando's this year, I was like, like, oh, okay. Like, I'm, I'm not. I wasn't blown away. And then as I watched it more and more, I was sitting there going, man, every throw is like a one on one throw to the perimeter. It's a hitch route, it's a stop route, it's a go route, it's a back shoulder, and they're well executed. But I'm like, I don't know. That's not real life in the NFL that consistently you got to make those throws occasionally. Yes. And then, you know, I thought, like, at times when, you know, everyone talks about the accuracy, no doubt it's there, but, like, I feel like he knows who he's throwing the football to more often than not before he gets the ball. Because one of my notes, I've got my notes with me. One of my notes, I'm like, yo, why does everyone run man coverage against them? I think Indiana saw so much man coverage now in part because they ran so many RPOs and they would get a 5 yard hitch would turn because Surratt was a difficult tackle. Coop Jr. Becker came on like, the five yard hitch would turn into a 15 yard gain. So then you got to play, man. But then they're going to become the. The go route, back shoulder route. And so, like, I think a lot of times he knew he was going to throw the ball too. So he'd get his body in good position, he'd make good throws, all that. But I then I thought sometimes where he would like go to set to one, one wasn't there because maybe a guy backed off or covered change and I would immediately see this. Like I always like if you do this, that's a concern of mine. Like your head goes down, your eyes are going down because you guys are
Kel Penn
not looking at the rush.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah. And I'm doing a tape on that tomorrow. So like that's a, that, that's a concern of mine. No prospects. Perfect. And I think that when you, when you take away that first read for him which just didn't happen a lot, he just doesn't have a lot of experience of having to go through progressions like that where like they're down the field and Ty Simpson's going to deep post to deep cross to backside in like those are real, real reads that we see guys and he just clip, clipping them off, you know. And so maybe it's like a style of quarterback that like we, I see a lot on Sundays or we see a lot on Sundays because I'm like, oh this is what Purdy looks like and Baker looks like and CJ Stroud looked like and Matthew Stafford look like and Jordan Love look like. Like I, I'm watching those guys go through them like oh yeah that's, that's. So that's kind of where I, I got to. And I didn't think the Ty Simpson falloff was nearly as exaggerated or bad as people made it out to be, personally. Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Because you kind of fell in love with him during this process.
Dan Orlovsky
I think he's a good player, man. I don't, I wouldn't take him at one. You know, people, again I said I would. He would be my first, my QB one. I couldn't take him at one because the 15 starts. But I would take him at 20. Absolutely. I'd take him at 15 to 20. Absolutely. Absolutely.
Kel Penn
I think there's just a specific bet you can make on that.
Co-host / Commentator
Obviously when this is out.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Over. Under 12 pick 28.
Dan Orlovsky
28.
Co-host / Commentator
The line said at 28 and a
Kel Penn
half, under 29 and a half. So basically you're saying like is Fernando going to be a second round picker or a first round pick or not?
Dan Orlovsky
And I just there if, if he had 23 starts, no shot he'd be a second round pick and he doesn't. So I get that. I get that. But fudge, dude, the tape is the tape, man.
Kel Penn
Do you, you don't think the fall off. Like I'm a huge Ty Simpson fan friend of the show, Young Wolf, the whole thing. But to me when we were watching college football, I don't know if it was like after the Georgia game.
Co-host / Commentator
Game.
Kel Penn
I don't know what game specifically it was. And it was like holy. Like this guy's for real.
Dan Orlovsky
The first Georgia game probably.
Kel Penn
Yeah. Oh yeah, yeah. But then like I think it was like week eight, nine, something like that. Like it really started to kind of
Dan Orlovsky
do this week 10 maybe.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
But dude, they like I think one of the things that. And I don't want to be an a hole but like Alabama stunk.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
They were not Alabama that we. We know of Alabama like we, we ran because we did it on the show today. They were were a hundred and tenth in college football in pass protection this year. One hundred tenth. They were a hundred I think in 30th running the football. What? And they were 129th in drops. They were bad. I think I like. I think Alabama was like a a very very being kind average football team this year.
Kel Penn
They yeah. They said a lot of talent which got them to. Oh yeah. I think they're incredibly talented football team. You look at Ryan Williams. He hit the year he had clearly was not the year you needed but the year before. That's like he has everything he has to have.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah. So I get fair.
Kel Penn
Both bookend tackles are five star athletes. One guy was a red shirt sophomore. You look at their, their defense, at their front sevens. Always in the upper four. Upper five. Like from a talent perspective.
Dan Orlovsky
Sure.
Kel Penn
They're always going to be a top 15 roster.
Dan Orlovsky
I just.
Co-host / Commentator
They weren't a play. They shouldn't have been a playoff game.
Dan Orlovsky
Correct. Notre Dame should have been in timeout.
Co-host / Commentator
Amen.
Kel Penn
Whoa, that's not true.
Dan Orlovsky
100 bro.
Co-host / Commentator
You know that's true.
Kel Penn
No, come on.
Dan Orlovsky
And Miami going to the national title only stamps that I believe that Notre
Kel Penn
Dame was a better football team at the end of the year than what? Alabama. Than Alabama. However the biggest knock on Alabama was the SEC championship who earned the right to go to a championship game. And they got their pushed out by Florida State about everybody else in the first game of the year bro.
Dan Orlovsky
Alabama.
Co-host / Commentator
But everyone wants to first game of the year with Notre Dame. Mike game.
Kel Penn
Timeout. And the second game then too. And then look at the rest of the.
Co-host / Commentator
You talking about the totality of Miami by what three or four points Miami
Kel Penn
and then A M. And they didn't play anybody after that. They didn't play anyone.
Co-host / Commentator
Getting their pushed in the SEC championship game and getting their.
Kel Penn
Everybody gets their pushed In. Yes. But while Bama and George are playing, every other team in the SEC is sitting at home. How is that right to.
Dan Orlovsky
But we're in a different time of the. Like college football too.
Kel Penn
I'm not arguing. Arguing that point.
Dan Orlovsky
Who are the good. Who are the really good SEC teams
Co-host / Commentator
this year out of Miami, Notre Dame and sec?
Kel Penn
No sec.
Dan Orlovsky
Really good SEC teams. Georgia.
Co-host / Commentator
Georgia.
Kel Penn
I thought Texas A M at Texas.
Dan Orlovsky
Ole Miss.
Co-host / Commentator
Ole Miss.
Kel Penn
Ole Miss. I think Ole Miss went on a rage run though. Texas.
Co-host / Commentator
Texas.
Dan Orlovsky
So it's like. It wasn't like the SEC was like this.
Kel Penn
The SEC has kind of been, you know, nil's changed a lot.
Dan Orlovsky
Greeny was saying to me today, me and Marcus, he thinks there will be one SEC kid drafted in the first 13 picks.
Kel Penn
Really?
Dan Orlovsky
That's crazy.
Co-host / Commentator
Change of the guard, man.
Kel Penn
Change of the guard. For real. That being. That being said, the point you just tried to argue was how college football is structured. The point I'm arguing is based on the landscape we live in now. You can't hurt a team for affording the ability to go to a place and playing a game that every other team wants to get into. But they can. Dude, what do you mean?
Dan Orlovsky
They're all bodies of work. A couple years ago, Florida State, Jordan Travis gets hurt. They go and play in the ACC title game. They're awful without them. Awful without him. I was on the next morning, I was like, cannot put them in and they weren't in.
Kel Penn
But that was when it was four picks. But then if we get. If we get into that same situation, there's 12 teams. They're the seventh or AC, but even
Co-host / Commentator
out of Miami, Notre Dame and Dandy.
Kel Penn
Right? So it's the world we live in. You can't penalize. You can't penalize with the landscape we have right now with how many playoff spots we have. And I know you see, I feel my boy feeling a little blood in the water right now because he's not
Dan Orlovsky
blood in the water.
Co-host / Commentator
I just know you also wanted Vanderbilt over both Miami and Notre Dame. When Vanderbilt and Diego Pavi and Katie
Dan Orlovsky
were sitting on the bus, you want Vanderbilt.
Co-host / Commentator
And they were talking about out of the three, who's you have in. I was like, my thought was Notre Dame. I was like, I mean, yeah, I
Kel Penn
see my argument doesn't play. It doesn't have legs because of what Miami was able to do in the playoffs. But if you looked at like the conference of ACC versus sec, which are more comparable now than they were when we originally had this conversation, Vanderbilt was A more competitive team in my eyes than Miami at the time because Miami really wanted to play anybody. They did lose to Louisville, they lost to smu. So I'm thinking to myself, like, you lose to these teams, ain't no way you're doing in the playoffs. They're going to get in because they have to over Notre Dame because there's no way Notre Dame could get in and Miami couldn't get in. And also, do we have to look at.
Dan Orlovsky
Do, do we have to. You guys are a little bit more entrenched in the college world. Do we have to look at how you're evaluating teams differently now because of the portal. Teams are so portal heavy now that your team. It's. It. It's almost like, like free agency in the NFL where your team, I think
Co-host / Commentator
it carries a little bit away, but
Dan Orlovsky
can be very different.
Co-host / Commentator
The year. Yeah, the year's still going to play out the way it plays out or
Dan Orlovsky
like do you have. Are you a team that has seven guys that have played college football for five years already and so. And you're playing against the team in September that has five true freshman starters and like, do those true freshmen evolve over the course of 10 weeks to become significantly better? And are they as good as those seven fifth year or sixth year seniors? You know, like I. How do, how do people evaluate what teams are now? Because the team roster changes so much than it. More than it used to.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, I think just that inside ball right there, you know, who you're going to put your money on. But as far as developing, like the year's still going to play out the way it plays out.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
You know what I mean? Like with Indiana, whether or not a team can like start lower and then they just continue to climb the ramp rankings and everything else. To me it's all system oriented. I feel like the system is not, is not in the right place. Again, you have two G5 teams in Miami, honestly only got in because Duke won the ACC title.
Dan Orlovsky
Correct.
Kel Penn
And if they did, if they. Duke didn't win, they're not getting in.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, Miami's not getting in. It would have been Notre Dame. And who is it? Virginia. Virginia was in the acc.
Kel Penn
Yeah, Virginia would have been the ACC representative.
Co-host / Commentator
So I feel like those elements need to be solved in college football. It seems like we're, we're, we're going to 24 teams next year.
Kel Penn
That. Is that confirmed or. I think that's still alleged.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, it's not confirmed.
Kel Penn
I think that's the argument. Because the argument that takes Place is we're at 12. Now, one conference, let's just say it's the Big Ten want more, but the other conferences don't. So they propose a 24, knowing they'll
Co-host / Commentator
end up Big Ten big time. Knowing them big time once a 2014
Kel Penn
playoff, knowing they will end up at 16. The number they want is not 24. The number they want is 16. That's just the negotiation place. But as far as evaluating teams. Yeah, I think that's going to happen. We're in the process of that right now. Like, now there is. Hey, you got your recruiting class in top one, top 50, whatever your recruiting class is. But there's a whole thing for the transfer portal as well. And that's gotten more of a microscope put on it because there's only one transfer portal. This time last year, there were kids essentially transferring right now because there was two windows, one before spring and one after. So the. I think the breakdown of like seeing the level of what team you could have. Yeah, that. That plays a big part. But I think a lot of people are taking the easy way. I'm being like, who spent the most money? Lsu, Texas Tech.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Ohio State. Like, okay, those teams are gonna be good. We know those things will be good.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
And so what's that? Yeah, it's staying.
Co-host / Commentator
I know this year. Do we know. Can you. Okay. They don't know that.
Kel Penn
The biggest problem to me is. Is the argument. We're talking about some ass in here.
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, no, no.
Co-host / Commentator
Like, I'm catching a whiff.
Kel Penn
Catching a little whiff or something.
Co-host / Commentator
Did you?
Kel Penn
I might have like a while ago, but I'm thinking, like, recently I haven't. Maybe I'm adjusting and I fluffed a little.
Dan Orlovsky
What rips up your stomach the most?
Kel Penn
Kind of got an iron gut, dude. Nothing really.
Dan Orlovsky
Really. Do you ever get sick?
Kel Penn
No, I. Oh, yeah, I guess. I guess red meat and. And sugar.
Dan Orlovsky
Red meat rips your stomach.
Kel Penn
Do you remember I couldn't make it one week because I had gout.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. Wait, you did make it, right? Because.
Kel Penn
No, no.
Dan Orlovsky
Remember you didn't go.
Kel Penn
I made it that week. Week. And it started the week of Halloween
Dan Orlovsky
when I was outfits.
Kel Penn
The next week I was dying. Still. I'm like, how is my foot still have this. The following week was when I was in the wheelchair. Derek was pushing me around.
Dan Orlovsky
What does that have to do with red meat?
Kel Penn
So it's okay. So red meat's high in purine. There's a lot of different. You can go. Yeah, you can go Google a bunch of different meats or different foods that are high in purine. Purine. If you have too much period or like your liver doesn't break down enough, enough it puts in. What appearing will do is it'll go down to like the lower extremities. So like toes, foot, ankle, sometimes even the knee I've heard about people having in their hip, but the lower extremities. And what it'll do is it'll find a joint and it'll crystallize in that area. And that's essentially what gout is. So it causes this insane flare up that takes place. It's called the king's disease because like a bunch of guys in like medieval times, like kings, they all they eat with.
Dan Orlovsky
Got it.
Kel Penn
Wine. Yeah. God. You don't die from gout. You're just in excruciating pain. It's like, it's. It's the worst thing I've ever gone through.
Co-host / Commentator
You could die to get septic, right?
Kel Penn
Oh, I guess you could get septic. Yeah. Worst. Worst come to worse. But yeah, gout, dude, it ain't no joke. And your foot balloons up and it's like if a draft of wind comes by your foot, it's like it hurts that bad. If a fly lands on your toe, it's like the worst pain. You feel everything.
Dan Orlovsky
Do you remember when. Do you remember? And gosh, I was playing with Tampa bay in maybe 12 or 13. Do you remember Carl Nicks?
Co-host / Commentator
Oh, yeah. Do you remember that name?
Dan Orlovsky
Big guard from Nebraska. Nebraska. He went with the Saints and we signed him to a big contract. He got some type of like infection, SARS maybe or something like that.
Kel Penn
That sounds it dramatic.
Dan Orlovsky
He. This is maybe like a little bit of trying to put all the pieces of a story together. I think it got so bad and he like cut open the infection on a boat or something like that and took like a spoon and. And like branded it or like seared the wound shut.
Kel Penn
Oh, my God.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, yeah. Because he was in so much pain or something like that. For me. He like cut it open, put it on a flame, took a spoon or something like that and like sealed the wound and it became a big thing and whatnot. And I think it like, you know, quickly ended his career type thing.
Kel Penn
Yeah, no doubt had to be alcohol involved with that.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't know that. I don't know that.
Kel Penn
But he was like, places to do it. Why do it on a boat, dude?
Dan Orlovsky
I think it got. I think it was to a point where like the infection got so bad and he Was so in pain with it or something like that. Dude, Google on it.
Kel Penn
I was solid myself.
Dan Orlovsky
What rips your up next?
Kel Penn
What up, Mersa Mercer? Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. What tears? What tears you up the most?
Dan Orlovsky
Plant based proteins. Okay, brother, Brother.
Kel Penn
You're, you're. The problem is you're just an alpha male.
Dan Orlovsky
You gotta proteins, man. Watch out. I eat a lot of fruit, so I'm pretty good with that. But plant based, Plant based proteins are like the thing that like at peace, hard pass. Other than that, I'm pretty good because I don't eat a lot of food.
Kel Penn
You don't eat a lot of food. Yeah, I could tell, obviously. Why don't you.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, we got some fan questions here. This one is from Cal Ripken Votley calvotli on Instagram. What do the Bills need to do to get over the hump and reach the Super Bowl? There you go.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, it's not that hard. Don't give up. 30 on defense. Defense every playoff game. So I think that just like they've been searching for difference makers on defense like closers. They tried it with Vaughn. They don't, they don't have a person or two people on defense that like you get into those big games late and playoff games and find a way to like hold somebody to a field goal rather than a touchdown. So, you know, Josh obviously probably played maybe his worst playoff game of his career when it came to. Came to turnovers this year. But they got to find ways to get like closers on defense.
Kel Penn
My big fan of Josh Allen. I cannot believe at halftime against the Broncos, him running with the ball like the way he was and getting it stripped.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Where they got to go and get three right before half. Just.
Dan Orlovsky
I can. He makes plays like that all the time. It just happened to be like in that moment. The ball fumbled.
Kel Penn
Yeah. But 13 seconds left around like the 25 yard line, like, where you going? You're running.
Dan Orlovsky
He's the type of player that like if somehow spin around again, throw it for 70 and.
Kel Penn
Yep. He'll die. He'll die on the field.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Gotta love that. This one comes from Lotus Underscore. Sam, what was the most difficult part about the transition from professional athlete to being a dad? And how did you overcome it
Dan Orlovsky
there? There was nothing hard from being for me, professional athlete to dad. I knew early on, like I, I mentioned I come from like a broken family. So like wanting to be a dad and like be a great dad was like something super important to me. From gosh, I want to feel like 20 maybe. And so, like, when I met my wife, I felt instantly, I was like, yo, she's going to be an amazing mom. And I was. Obviously, I found her to be beautiful and whatnot, but, like. Like, there was no transition for me that was difficult with that stuff about transitioning out of football in regards to dad stuff or. I think the hardest part of tradition got a football was like, it was like a, you know, I lost the love of my life type of thing. Like, football is the only thing I loved. Coming from the broken family, like, football truly changed me as a human being, and it gave me by my family, was my teammates, like I mentioned before. So, like, when football ends, it's like, it's over. The childhood dream is done. That's all I ever was. So you immediate are like, who am I? What am I? Am I ever gonna replace the competitiveness? Am I ever going to be able to do something like that again? Where am I gonna find my friends? I think, like, that was probably the. The biggest part for me is like, dude, football was. Was like, literally gave me everything.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. Did you know when football was going to end?
Dan Orlovsky
I tried to retire my 10th year. I was like, I'm done with it. I don't know how you guys felt, but, like, when I went into the NFL and the NFL is amazing. Like, it's incredible, but, like, it got to be. I mean, I went to Detroit, and we were fudging brutal, too. So, like, we were 2 and 14, 3 and 13. It's 12 degrees out. We're in the middle of the economic recession. I'm like, like, the NFL sucks, you know, like, so I went through so much losing. I got to a point where, like, I didn't really love the NFL anymore. It was a job, so I was doing the job, but I didn't love football anymore. So I tried to retire. My. My wife was like, why are you going to retire? Like, just stop being so emotional. Wait a day. My wife knows I'm dramatic. Wait a day, and then kind of see how you feel and whatnot. So I ended up up playing three more years. And then my McVeigh Cut story is great because I knew McVeigh, like, good game after games. But we were living in Philly. I kind of had thought this was the spring. I kind of thought my career was near the end. He called me. We were down in the city. He's like, dan, it's strong McFam, like, what's up, man? He's like, hey, I need you to come be my third quarterback. This year, I'm like, all right. And he was like, listen, you're not going to take a single snap. You're not going to play in any preseason games. I just need you to come be like a coach. But you're going to be the third quarterback. And I was like, are you going to keep three quarterbacks? Like, is this a legit thing? He's like, we're going to keep three quarterbacks. You'll be the third quarterback. You're not going to do anything. I just need. I got this young quarterback, Jared Goff. He's talented. He doesn't know a ton of football. Fly out to la. I meet with Jared. I study with Jared every day for hours on hours on hours. In training camp. I went 23 straight days without taking a rep in training camp. Not a rep. The dream, Not a rep. Dude goes to a day or two before the final preseason games at that point. No, I don't think so. Day or two before. Before the final preseason game. Sean's like, hey, you gotta start and play. And I'm like, what, Sean? I haven't done anything. He's like, listen, it is what it is. You're fine. Like, just go on. I'm like, okay, I go play. I think, like, the second snap of the game, I fumble a snap, I bob. I like, throw it out of bounds. I don't play good. Cuts. Cuts come. He calls me and he's off. He's like, hey, Brandon Allen got cut from Jacksonville. We're gonna sign him as our third. And I look at Sean, he's like, I'm sorry, dude. He's like, I. I know what I said. But this opportunity presented itself. We talked football for, like, 90 minutes after that. He asked me all about football, the team, what needed to get better. And I was just like, thank you. And I called my wife, and I was like, hey, it's done.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
And I was like, I'm coming home.
Kel Penn
It's over. Thank you.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, I knew, dude. I, like, I knew it had run its course. I wasn't good enough anymore. I'm. I'm blown away by, like, Flaco and what he's doing.
Kel Penn
So Flaco is doing is incredible.
Co-host / Commentator
How about old Philip Rivers?
Kel Penn
He. That. That was a bag play. That was an insurance bag play. Brilliant. But he might be investigated for insurance fraud than what he just took place there. Look into that.
Dan Orlovsky
River's an integrity guy.
Kel Penn
Integrity guy through and through. Let's talk about at T Harris, 1519. Who is he picking to win the Standing Cup?
Dan Orlovsky
Stanley Cup? I'm gonna go with the. Who are the two teams that played last night that were in a good game?
Kel Penn
Come on, Oilers.
Dan Orlovsky
So the Oilers. Pittsburgh's down, two up. Are the Oilers good?
Kel Penn
Yeah, they're always good.
Dan Orlovsky
They've got.
Kel Penn
It's been. It's been Connor McDavid. But we saw the Olympics. He's a little.
Co-host / Commentator
Y' all talking about hockey? Yeah.
Kel Penn
Connor McDavid. They say he's the next one, but he missed a wide open. He missed a breakaway shot in the Olympics.
Dan Orlovsky
So I'll say Edmonton. And then who has to play opposite? I don't know anything about hockey.
Kel Penn
You got them. You got them. I. Yeah. Listen, a lot of hockey. You did watch the Olympics, though, right? Right?
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, God, yeah.
Kel Penn
How nice.
Dan Orlovsky
It was unreal.
Kel Penn
Sorry. Let me rephrase.
Dan Orlovsky
How fudging nuts was that, Dude?
Kel Penn
Elite.
Dan Orlovsky
It was awesome, dude. It was awesome.
Kel Penn
There's nothing, nothing better than just feeling American.
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, dude, when those. When that went down, it was like. It. It. Like, it was awesome to watch both. And my daughter plays sports with a girl who's got an older sister who goes to a private Rochester school for hockey. Her dad's a hockey guy, and three of the girls that were on that team are from that school. And so we followed a little bit because of her. And so, like, watch the girls win and then watch, obviously, the Hughes goal.
Kel Penn
It's like, dude, there's a kid I play with. I played with at Michigan, Michael Schofield. He was married. He's married to one of the girls that are on the.
Dan Orlovsky
Okay.
Kel Penn
A women's hockey team. So we follow a little bit there. But my wife is from Canada.
Dan Orlovsky
Oh.
Kel Penn
Yeah. She's from Brazil.
Dan Orlovsky
This guy.
Kel Penn
Yeah. So house, House divided. Four nations tournament almost ruined us.
Dan Orlovsky
Sure.
Kel Penn
This almost ruined us. But when we won, dude.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
I mean, their family will never have an easy night's sleep with me around anymore.
Co-host / Commentator
Amen.
Dan Orlovsky
I think those days are just so cool nowadays because, like, we live in a different time, obviously.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
It was 40, 50 years ago, and I think it's, like, one of the rare days that everyone just feels truly, like, cool to be American.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
You know, and, like, we just don't have that a lot nowadays, I guess
Kel Penn
how we should feel every day. Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Dude. It's like, finally, we're not arguing about the stupidest stuff in the world.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
We're just like, this is cool to be American.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. We got the best sports team.
Kel Penn
Yeah, we are the best.
Co-host / Commentator
This one here from a underscore. More 1. Which team could really surprise people next year if they have a great draft for Daniel.
Dan Orlovsky
Which team could really surprise people next year if they have a great draft? I want to pick an actual surprise team. I'll say the Giants, you know, because they have five and 10. Tennessee's not there yet. I don't think. I know you were going like this to me.
Kel Penn
I know. But you did like last coaching staff. It's kind of like you got Dable and you got solid now.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
I think they're gonna find. They're gonna find ways to win that game.
Dan Orlovsky
I still think you gotta get a really good receiver.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Let them turn them in receiving as. As a wide out. A Chig is gone. So it's like. And I. Wando's a nice player, but Wanda was inside R is up and down.
Kel Penn
I was pretty vocal about wand. I'm a big Wandell fan.
Dan Orlovsky
Nice player, dude, but you're not neighbors went down this year.
Kel Penn
Yeah, true. But he's dicing anybody up man to man the slot.
Dan Orlovsky
Not. Oh, sure. But you got to have outside players.
Kel Penn
Do you like. Who's the ASU cat? Jordan.
Dan Orlovsky
Tyson.
Kel Penn
Jordan. Tyson.
Dan Orlovsky
He. He reminds me of Oda, though.
Kel Penn
Really, dude? Him or Tate.
Dan Orlovsky
I'm a tight. I would. I would take Tyson.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Even with.
Kel Penn
Was he valuable enough to get four or would you trade back?
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, I would take him at 4.
Kel Penn
Okay.
Dan Orlovsky
I think he's that good.
Kel Penn
Is that your pick for the Titans?
Dan Orlovsky
I would take him if at 4 if I were the Titans. There's a lot of people tie in the defensive Sunny Styles or Arvell Reese to it. But like, I hired a defensive mic coach who I have a track record of taking good players, making them out outperform necessarily their skill set. I spent a ton of money on defense. And it's also like, dude, these is like the next two or three years are really important for Cam Ward. Like, really important. So, yes, they're important for my team, but, like, they're really important for the quarterback to take big steps.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Sunny Styles is going to be an alien.
Dan Orlovsky
There's a question about your pants from whenever it was the nude. Yeah. In London. That was in London. Those are made from a suit guy in. In New York. I honestly don't pick my clothes. I swear on everything. I go to my wife and say, I need a suit or I need three suits for Pittsburgh for the draft. She'll go, tie or no tie? And I'll say, tie or no tie, and that's it. And so she just picks him out and I throw him in the suitcase. So she just happened to pick that one out. It was like. I forget. The top was like a navy maybe, and this was like, almost like a. Like a tan, khaki, light copper type of color. And I just remember I've had two moments like that on. On Monday Night Football. This moment, because I remember doing the pregame, going to my phone and being like, why is all that activity? And like, fudge, dude.
Kel Penn
I'm like, what is happening?
Dan Orlovsky
And then the fart.
Kel Penn
The.
Dan Orlovsky
That I did on Monday Night Football win. I think big cat that didn't. I was like, fudge, dude. This is gonna be another one.
Kel Penn
Yeah, it's tough to go through. I have a question here from underscore. Jack Duke. Underscore. It's been over just. It's been just over two years since his fart heard around the world on. Has he learned to control his bowel movements on tv?
Dan Orlovsky
I can do it right now. If you want me to do it.
Co-host / Commentator
Do it.
Dan Orlovsky
No, I'm not gonna fart, dude.
Kel Penn
Smell, dude, I'll fart with you if
Co-host / Commentator
you think you can do it it.
Dan Orlovsky
I can. I'm not gonna. Dude's gonna Like a four pod.
Kel Penn
It's a chamber.
Dan Orlovsky
This is like videos. When you said, let's go take a walk, put to the mic, dude, dude, no, dude, I'm.
Co-host / Commentator
The last thing I need to do is do that.
Dan Orlovsky
I've got enough stuff on the Internet about me that was 100% a windshield wiper.
Kel Penn
Go ahead, man.
Dan Orlovsky
Is that real?
Kel Penn
I just let one out too, but it was a little.
Dan Orlovsky
That better not Smell, dude.
Kel Penn
His stink, bro.
Co-host / Commentator
It can't at times. Go ahead.
Dan Orlovsky
No, man, I'm not.
Kel Penn
Safe space. Safe space.
Dan Orlovsky
I'm not gonna do it.
Kel Penn
Okay, fair enough. Willie, you're ste.
Co-host / Commentator
Oh, this one is from at Underscore. Will Compton. Dan, when will you admit Jalen hurt? That was a grosser one, Dude.
Dan Orlovsky
That's an asaio with protein powder.
Kel Penn
That's a. That's plant protein.
Dan Orlovsky
And honestly, there's nothing to it, which is a good thing.
Kel Penn
Yeah, that's plant protein right there.
Co-host / Commentator
Plant.
Dan Orlovsky
That's aso with ch. No, that. That's a whey protein.
Kel Penn
Whey protein.
Dan Orlovsky
I won't do plant protein.
Co-host / Commentator
Did you write this one? I. I did write that one, supposedly for me. Then when will you admit Jalen Hurts is not a top 10 QB and is the problem in Philly?
Dan Orlovsky
I never said he wasn't part of the problem. Oh, I'm such a good wordsmith, Daniel. There's obviously issues I think it's interesting. Like, I think there's two quarterbacks that are like highly, highly successful quarterbacks that it just feels like massive years for them. One is Jalen.
Podcast Host / Advertiser
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
I'll give you a chance to guess the other one.
Co-host / Commentator
Massive years for them like this a
Dan Orlovsky
big year for him, for the team. For him and the team. Got you Joe Burrow.
Kel Penn
100%, without a doubt.
Dan Orlovsky
You know, it's like, I know it might be so crazy far fetched, but just hearing some of the stuff that's come out of Philly and then shefty this week talking about like, hey, the Dexter Lawrence trade, they got like, it's. These are like massive years for Jalen. Like if both of those situations go poorly, whether individual performance or team performance, it's. It's not in that league. Far fetched. To see those guys not there in 27.
Co-host / Commentator
Would you feel. Do you feel similar at all with Lamar Jackson?
Dan Orlovsky
No. I don't know. Lamar in Baltimore is his future.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. Like if he has a bad year because obviously the Ravens underperformed last year. No, I know he was injured, but yeah.
Kel Penn
All of the early part of last year was everybody being like Ravens best roster.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't think that the Burrow thing would be a. A team thing. I think that would be a Joe thing.
Kel Penn
I could see the Joe thing. I think Joe's issue is not his playing, it's his team where they lack any other areas keeping him healthy.
Dan Orlovsky
A Joe thing, I think.
Co-host / Commentator
Isn't that the same in that Lamar, you got a place thing. It's the guys around him and keeping him healthy.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't think Lamar would.
Kel Penn
I think the guys around him are talented. I think Lamar was unhealthy last year. Correct. But I think he's a great football player still before, dude, before.
Co-host / Commentator
But Joe Burrow's gonna be a great football player.
Kel Penn
You were also talking about he was on track for 4,000whatever passing yards and
Co-host / Commentator
all this before you talk about Lamar before he got hurt. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kel Penn
That's what I'm saying. Like he's.
Derek
But he's.
Dan Orlovsky
They've had more success than Cincinnati as well. Baltimore as an organization, you know, in their time together. Joe, obviously.
Co-host / Commentator
And I guess all the insider. Like when Joe's given his pressers at times throughout the year.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah. It's also like Joe 2 years ago has the. This historical season. They don't get in the playoffs. Lamar has the historical season. They're like the 2 seed in the playoffs. Right. So it's like I think that's the.
Kel Penn
The vantage point, knowing everything you know now about football. If he were to go back to UConn, do you think he'd be successful? Like, would you be more successful? Everything you know about ball, everything you've learned?
Dan Orlovsky
No, no. I was. I was about as good as I was going to be. I, like, maxed myself out. I would tell you the only. No, dude. Like, we. I was so intellectually, I had to be because we weren't as talented as everybody else, and I wasn't, like, physically that gifted. So, like, I. Intellectually, that was, like, the. The only reason why I was good. So I don't think I'd be that much, like, different of a player.
Kel Penn
I did a bad job serving up this question. This is from at Real Seattle. Mike. If Dan pulled a Chad Powers, does he think he could win a national championship? Have you seen Chad Powers?
Dan Orlovsky
I have an a hole response, but I'm not gonna say I have not seen Chad's Powers, but I know it's
Kel Penn
actually a really good show.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, that dude's a good actor. I like him.
Kel Penn
Yep. What's his name?
Dan Orlovsky
Glenn. Do I think I could win a natural right now?
Kel Penn
Wig on the whole thing. You put on the best team in the country.
Dan Orlovsky
No, dude, I don't know what happened. I'm 42. I try to take care of myself. I played catch with my son last week at the beach. I can't throw it 35 yards.
Kel Penn
Really?
Dan Orlovsky
I don't know how Tom Brady did it. I don't know. LeBron's doing it.
Kel Penn
It's Tom the Goat.
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, yeah.
Kel Penn
Just question. No follow up. I have no more questions. Feel good about it?
Co-host / Commentator
I feel good about this pie.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Oh, golly.
Dan Orlovsky
Hey, I have a question for you guys.
Kel Penn
Oh, go ahead.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah. I want you guys to tell me about what your experience with ESPN this year. As much as you can say on
Kel Penn
camera, there's nothing we would say on camera. It was awesome.
Co-host / Commentator
Legit challenging.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Why was it challenging?
Co-host / Commentator
I think going in that world, you have to be. You have to be way more prepared. You have to be more on top of stuff. Like we, you know, speaking for myself, like, being an idiot and say, having.
Kel Penn
Speak for us in that.
Co-host / Commentator
Having fun, like, doing things that, you know, or, like, you know, where you're. Whether you're trolling fan bases or talking well about a team, like, with that, you have to be kind of in the know on what's going on. So I feel like. And the margin for error, like when Greenie. All of A sudden throws something at me. Like, I had a couple moments throughout the year.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Where I had something dialed up in my head. Yeah. And Greeny asked something. I said something completely different. She's like, we don't even have a graphic for that.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
That type of, like, professionalism and how quick it is.
Kel Penn
Is.
Co-host / Commentator
And how it just flies by. It's like two hours is. Feels like a long time, but as we get going, it kind of just like, it flies by, and you only have these pockets of time to kind of get your point across.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
It's not like a pod where we're sitting here. We can talk as long.
Dan Orlovsky
Totally.
Kel Penn
And there can be a pause. If we want to be a pause. There's another viewers. They're there for the long haul because it's super long form. Yeah. The. Yeah. The having to say your point and knowing you only have a certain amount of time to get your point across was a big change for me. Structurally, it was a massive change. Just knowing how, like. Like, every single segment, every single commercial break. This is what we're going to next. And then. Yeah, dude. It's the big leagues.
Dan Orlovsky
Like, did you guys like that, though? Like, did you enjoy the structure, or was it, like.
Kel Penn
There was a piece that. I think that. Personally, for me, I think it's. It's too much structure, because I think the best times that we had was probably in that pocket of, like. Like mid October to mid November. Like, the good meat potato season. We've had enough reps under our belt.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
To where. Okay, Green is taking us somewhere, but you get to cut me off. And then Hawk energy. And then we have, like, five minutes of just. It's. We're teaching the viewer something, but everyone really feels like they're a part of
Co-host / Commentator
it, which I feel like our chemistry started to get.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Too. Because breakfast club with all the boys. Like, Hawk is the best you got.
Dan Orlovsky
Chef, more racist jokes in the group.
Kel Penn
Absolutely. Absolutely. The hardest thing, like, do you like, your freshman year of college when you go out to camp for the first. Like, the first day of camp. Camp.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah.
Kel Penn
And you go out, and it seems like everybody knows what drill is going on except for you.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
Yeah. And so you're kind of, like, playing catch up for, like, three, four days, being like, okay, now we go to this drill, then that drill, then there's team, and there's this. That's kind of how it felt the first couple of weeks where you sit down, you're in the room, Greeny's there. I know who Greeny is you and I have met, but I don't know you like that. I mean, same thing with Hawk. And it's like you guys all understand what's happening, and Will's taking his notes. I'm thinking to myself, I should have brought a notebook. What the hell am I doing? And then you get on the thing. It's like everyone kind of knows exactly how things are going to work, and you're just. You have so much anxiety about it, and then the show's over, and the next time, you kind of see it a little more. More clear. That was the hardest part for me was those first couple of weeks of being like, okay, what are we going to talk about? Why do I not get to know what I'm talking about until Wednesday afternoon?
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
I would love to know Tuesday. And then you realize, like, how current events, everything.
Dan Orlovsky
See, when you guys talk about the time, that's why when I answer questions, I answer so strong.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Because I. I like. One of the things I say is, you'll never know how to. How short 20 seconds is. Do you do TV or how long 20 seconds is till you do, like, Tabata workout.
Jack
Dude,
Dan Orlovsky
20 seconds feels like a minute, but 20 seconds on TV, it's like, wait. I just. It's like, that's why I. That's. I learned that from a guy who's a producer at espn. He's like, take the. Take the plane off. He's like, stop trying to live on the Runway.
Kel Penn
Go.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. The one thing I wasn't the biggest fan of. Of is I did feel like each week you'd have to have a certain. A certain amount of, like, takes or feel strongly about something to where I
Dan Orlovsky
was like, you can get yourself in trouble. Well, yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
In production kind of walks you into. So cults are overrated. I was like, Well, I mean, I'm not saying, like, they're overrated.
Kel Penn
This cold thing is so funny. You know what?
Dan Orlovsky
I'm. You.
Co-host / Commentator
I mean, you were sitting there.
Kel Penn
I'm with you because. Yeah, I'm with you. And I was there for the backstory of all that. There's a frustrating point to me as a player. Even when you're watching ESPN or. Or, you know, any sort of sports show in the mornings on week seven in the facility. And it's like, these guys are like, this team rips. That team sucks. This team's gonna.
Dan Orlovsky
This team season over.
Kel Penn
Yeah, exactly. And it's just like. I just find it all so dramatic. No, like, still being in the brain and the mindset of A football player. Well, yeah, we're in week six. Things can easily get figured out and all that. So I always have a really difficult time of being super defensive, definitive. This team's cooked. This team's going to be champion, that type of thing. Yeah. That was a very difficult.
Co-host / Commentator
It's going to be the MVP of the season.
Kel Penn
Right. And I understand the reasoning behind it because it's. It's the game we all live in of like, how do we get people to be like, whoa, whoa, whoa, what the hell did Taylor just say? Let's go and chew that apart. And there's a couple people that Bears
Co-host / Commentator
are not making the playoffs.
Kel Penn
Right.
Co-host / Commentator
Stuff like that. To where, you know, if you're on. If we're on bus with the boys or we're on the locker room, the audience that's tuned in just knows us.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
They know when I'm just doing something that could feel a little bit more performative, to lean into something more.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Versus when you're on national television, you got audiences. It's like when the Eagles fans are tuned in and I'm saying stuff about the Eagles, it's a different beast.
Dan Orlovsky
Totally. Yeah. And it's espn where it's like they're on every television everywhere.
Kel Penn
Yeah. The thing that, like the show in totality, I love, loved it. It was incredible. My favorite part of the entire year was Breakfast Club.
Dan Orlovsky
Oh, I totally agree. I remember probably a couple weeks in texting one of the guys that you guys obviously know well and be like, yo, this, like, they are so much fun. I loved it.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Breakfast Club. But I also loved being on with you guys, like, because you guys brought out, like, a little bit more fun than me, for sure. But Breakfast Club in the group chat is the best.
Co-host / Commentator
There was nothing more because it feels
Dan Orlovsky
like a locker room to us.
Kel Penn
It does.
Co-host / Commentator
Nothing that embraced my soul more than when we had, like, shefty giggling, like,
Dan Orlovsky
laughing at the table.
Co-host / Commentator
I.
Dan Orlovsky
Breakfast. Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
And even on the show.
Kel Penn
Yeah.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah.
Kel Penn
And it felt like. It felt like zero egos. I feel like everyone kind of understood the role. Yeah. That we were playing.
Dan Orlovsky
We don't even remember the football we talked about.
Kel Penn
Right. Exactly. But it was like, you know, it was a little Gossip Girl. It was a little more like talking trash. It was just. It was everything you could possibly want. That scratches that itch of the locker room that all. We all fondly remember being a bunch of idiots together. Yeah. It was awesome. You want to hit the blq?
Co-host / Commentator
Would love to hit the blq. So there's a Bud Light question we ask every guest.
Dan Orlovsky
Okay.
Co-host / Commentator
Because you know, anybody, everybody would do anything for an ice cold Bud Light. What is something that Dan Orlovsky would do anything for?
Kel Penn
Can't say family.
Dan Orlovsky
I can't say family.
Kel Penn
You cannot say family.
Dan Orlovsky
I would do anything for. I would do anything. You're gonna give me it by 15 seconds here now, because I would. My. My natural reaction would be something from my kids, something from my wife.
Kel Penn
Right, right. But get off the Runway.
Dan Orlovsky
And I don't want to be over overly emotional because I'm an emotional person. I think I would do anything. I would do anything to tee off at Augusta on the last week of May at 3:40pm
Kel Penn
I love it for you.
Dan Orlovsky
That means you're finishing 17, 18. Like, son, we got 30 minutes of sun left. That would be glorious with the nice
Co-host / Commentator
cold blood light in hand.
Dan Orlovsky
What walking?
Kel Penn
What?
Dan Orlovsky
Gotta hit your steps in with like 74 degrees outside. That'd be amazing, dude.
Kel Penn
Incredible episode. Loved everything about it. You're the man. Look, we have Daniel. A round of applause. Give him a round of applause.
Co-host / Commentator
We'll see in June.
Dan Orlovsky
June. But you guys are going away now, I thought or something like that. I thought that was like, I have
Kel Penn
no clue what's happening in June. What am I doing in June?
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, we'll work it out. We'll work something.
Kel Penn
Okay. Okay. But hey, I know there's so many things we could have talked about. I do want to say I've texted you about this every single time it's happened. Your son on espn. Those moments, I'm just telling you, I look over my wife and I show. I. I show my wife. We tear up together and I go hug my kids right after. It is so cool. Thanks, man. See you As a dad taking those opportunities, it's all time.
Dan Orlovsky
Thank you.
Kel Penn
Yeah. You're the man.
Dan Orlovsky
Don't make me cry. You're the man. That was an awesome moment, man. It was. I. I was. It was a special moment. He's a special dude. I was joking. I went to the week after was the Masters. I'm not joking about this either. This is not embellishments. I was at Augusta on Wednesday. He was the talk of Augusta National. Like, I must have had a thousand people at Augusta come up and be like, something along those lines. And I went home to my wife. I was like, yo, he was the most talked about person at Augusta. Felt like today. So, yeah, it was awesome. He's. He's gonna doing some art for backyard baseball, which is.
Co-host / Commentator
Oh, let's Go.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, I was. He just drew two characters. They asked him to draw a character. So he drew two characters from last week.
Kel Penn
And Jason Kel is bringing that back. Right. He's like one of the people investing.
Co-host / Commentator
He's part of it.
Kel Penn
I think he's part of it. Yeah.
Co-host / Commentator
Now he drew. That already exists in the backyard.
Dan Orlovsky
I think he drew two characters that already exist.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah. Who do you know?
Dan Orlovsky
Mr. Clinky, the robot pitcher. Am I right with that?
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, I think there's a robot pitcher
Dan Orlovsky
out there and then one character that I don't think has been revealed as a new character character yet.
Co-host / Commentator
Okay.
Kel Penn
Off camera. Off camera.
Dan Orlovsky
Okay. Okay. Yeah, yeah. He's the man. He's a good dude. He's a good dude.
Co-host / Commentator
Did you play backyard baseball?
Dan Orlovsky
No, no. When my wife sent. They reached out to my wife and my wife sent it to me. I was like, I don't know this. And then we have a group chat with a dude who works, a buddy of mine, Dave Phelps, who works at Samsung, and he's a little bit more into maybe like the video game world or whatnot. And he was like, yo, that game is enormous. He knew all about it, bro.
Kel Penn
That's our, that's our childhood. Yeah, get on there. Play.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, my childhood was like twisted metal.
Kel Penn
Same, same. Yeah, Twisted metal Rift.
Dan Orlovsky
I don't know. Backyard baseball.
Kel Penn
Were you Super Smash Brothers on N64?
Co-host / Commentator
Roller Coaster Tycoon?
Dan Orlovsky
No, dude, I was like RBI Baseball, Madden, EA Sports, Twisted Metal, golden axe.
Co-host / Commentator
Were you a game day Cat?
Kel Penn
No.
Co-host / Commentator
NFL game day?
Dan Orlovsky
No. NFL Blitz
Co-host / Commentator
007?
Dan Orlovsky
No, I was never smart enough. Like the strategic game. They were like too boring for me type thing. I needed like action.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, you needed action.
Kel Penn
007 is just straight action.
Dan Orlovsky
My kids are now you literally walk
Kel Penn
around, you have the gun and you're just.
Dan Orlovsky
Wait, can I tell you my auto. I told you I had a bet that I, I lost. That was worse.
Co-host / Commentator
Yeah, please.
Dan Orlovsky
I'll share this bet with you guys because I'm battling with it. So I. We have the 14 year old triplets. I'm not being offensive to anybody, but we have chose like for them. We don't have, they don't have cell phones and we've like totally made the commitment, like no cell phones through the end of eighth grade. There's one other kid in eighth grade in our town who doesn't have cell phones other than our three sons. And it's one of their buddies, his kid named Bo. So. And it's been a good thing all that we're down at the beach last week in Seaside. And my two sons, Hunter and Noah, who are Madden's brothers. They go, us two versus you and mom and Spike Ball. If we win, we get cell phones next week.
Kel Penn
Week.
Dan Orlovsky
I'm sitting on the beach, having a good time, and I'm like, there's no way you two idiots are beating me and mom. My wife's a good athlete. My wife could have gone and played college lacrosse, all that. Good athlete. They fudging boat. Raider Boat raced us, dude. So now I have to go get them cell phones, and I would rather get a baseball bat to the mouth.
Kel Penn
I'm with you, dude. Kids. Kids and phones is just a terrible combination of all the horrible things we've
Dan Orlovsky
held off for so long. Wrong. Yeah, but I'm so mad we lost this bet. I'm way more mad than the mission.
Co-host / Commentator
So if your son came out, you're
Kel Penn
really not following through with. There's nothing bad.
Co-host / Commentator
Eventually your son's like, hey, dad, I listen to busting with the boys. I heard busting with the boys. So if I can take this metal bat to your mouth, is it a
Dan Orlovsky
19, like, 90s metal bat? Because those metal bats stunk.
Co-host / Commentator
Sure. He said, we go in the backyard right now. You let me take this metal bat to your mouth. For real. You can hold off?
Dan Orlovsky
Not to my mouth. I'll take that back. But you can hit me stomach. Absolutely.
Kel Penn
Houdini shot.
Dan Orlovsky
Yeah, absolutely.
Kel Penn
What did you get in return?
Co-host / Commentator
Just want to make sure we cleared up if I.
Dan Orlovsky
If we had one.
Kel Penn
Yeah, if y' all had one.
Dan Orlovsky
They weren't gonna get it till junior year.
Kel Penn
Body. That's a big L, dude. That's.
Dan Orlovsky
I was yelling at my wife like, I was Danny Hurley. I was looking at like, what are you doing? And she, like, finally got to a point where she's like, yo, stop. And I was like, she couldn't.
Kel Penn
She.
Dan Orlovsky
Her hand eye stunk that day. I was so mad. So, yeah, cell phones.
Kel Penn
Cell phones.
Dan Orlovsky
It's heartbreaking.
Kel Penn
Hey, we appreciate you coming on, man.
Dan Orlovsky
Good to be with the boys.
Co-host / Commentator
Big hugs, tiny kisses. Drop comments.

The conversation blends classic locker-room ball-busting, genuine football insight, wild storytelling, and a surprising dose of heart (especially when talking about family, legacy, and the thrill/challenge of being a public football “opinion haver”). The crew is irreverent and self-aware, but the core is a true appreciation for the evolving NFL and college game.
Dan’s Jalen Hurts & Joe Burrow Prediction
“These are like massive years for Jalen. Like if both of those situations go poorly…It’s not that far-fetched to see those guys not there in 2027.” (Dan Orlovsky, 141:14)
Steelers’ Draft Heartbreak
“The Eagles slid in because Dallas was going defense. So Makai Lemon off the board…I was poison testing a couple Bud Lights… and I wasn’t happy. Slept on it…” (Derek, 37:54)
Orlovsky on Sports TV Analysis
“If you go on TV and you say something that’s wrong, you’re dead…there’s a paranoia about it as well.” (Dan, 107:03)
Big hugs, tiny kisses. As always, the crew keeps it light—even when chopping up the biggest stories in football.
