I got a good team around me, you know, you want to take that 30 year payout, you'll get more money. But they're holding onto the money. They're just letting it accrue at their interest. So I think I can.

[Delaney Walker]

Man, it's crazy, like playing. Jitters. Yeah, man. God damn. Yeah, it's probably the worst. Week one jitters. Cause you don't know what's gonna happen. You expecting the team to be great, but you know they shitty. And you going out there, you gotta put the team on your back. You know, that shit is nerve wracking. Cause you gotta show up. You know what I mean? Like, me and you, we had to show up.

[Taylor Lewan]

Delaney, when you were. But I bet you expectations were different from when you played for the 49ers versus the Titans. I know for, you know, playing in Green Bay, every year was kind of super bowl or bust. When you had Aaron Rodgers as your quarterback and you had the pieces we had every year was like, all right, this is our year. Especially, you know, winning the Super bowl in 2010, my second year. And then just 20, 11, 15 1. You figured the next year, it was going to be the next year. So expectations were always just like, all right, here we go again. But it was exciting. It's an exciting time. I mean, I still get those, like that training camp, you know, when August is in the air. I know we're into September now, but like, it's exciting. I'm happy to be a fan now. You know, all that anxiety, nerves and whatnot are calmed down a little bit. But yeah, there's something in the air.

[Clay Matthews]

Week one, I was in fight or flight the entire time. I mean, there's just the situation.

[Will Compton]

You're thinking to yourself, I got a choke this week.

[Clay Matthews]

Yeah, it's like, okay, you know, my first year I was on peace squad. Second year when I made the team, I'm thinking like, you gotta. I gotta get a tackle. I gotta. You gotta make a player. You can get cut. Like, when I became the starter, it's like, I. I gotta play at the level to keep my job. I can't get injured. If you're injured, you gotta play through injury. Because you never want to be off the field for somebody else to, like, overtake your spot with the Titans. I remember going into week one in 2018, I was playing both, like the Mike and Moe. They called the weak side the movie, but kind of know both spots. The entire week I was playing Mo. And then on the walkthrough Saturday before the game, Coach Ty comes up to me, he's like, hey, you gotta. You gotta do the Mic. The mic spot this week, which. The mic is where I did training camp in. I was doing the MO Studying for the Texans the entire time. Then you flipped the mic. So I was just in Fight or Flight basically my entire career, except for the last few years when I'm kinda just having fun.

[Will Compton]

Yeah, you're just. You were playing for fun.

[Clay Matthews]

Yeah, like, when I'm playing. Of course. Yeah, of course. I'm playing to have fun. But I'm just saying, like, you're just.

[Taylor Lewan]

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because we have an energy a. We'll see you week one.

We're like, hey, we need you back out.

Yeah. The couple years where I got to sit out the fourth preseason, like, you're flying high, you're feeling good, you're, like, grateful. You're like, oh, fuck, this is awesome. But, like, all the other years besides, like, the last couple, when I just felt like I was playing with house money, where it's like, I'm just going to enjoy playing this game since I loved it so much growing up. But the anxieties and everything and stress that comes with it, that shit is real.

[Delaney Walker]

Yeah, no, it's real.

[Will Compton]

I'm envious towards, like, the rookies that are going into week one because they're just so excited. Like, when my first year at the Titans, it's like we end up going 2 and 14. But, like, in camp, I'm like, yo, we could win the Super Bowl. Like, this is going to be amazing. I have no idea about the talent level we have or anything. We go in the first game against Kansas City, beat their ass.

[Delaney Walker]

2010, beat them.

[Will Compton]

I'm like, yo, we got a fucking squad out here and then we don't win another game till, like, week nine. But, like, as a rookie, when you're playing as a rookie, you're just like, yo, this is amazing. Like, I'm. I'm playing in the NFL. Like, you have, like, an okay game, a bad game. It's like. Or I can work on that. But, like, this is fucking dope.

[Clay Matthews]

And everybody on your team's like, a great player. Like, everybody on your team's like, a good player. You play against other punch, you're like, yeah, they're pretty fucking good.

[Will Compton]

When we're having this, like, small conversation, I'm just thinking about your career and, like, you're at USC where it's like, you guys are going to win 10, 11 games every single year. And then you go to the packers, and it's like you guys are going to win your division every single Year with Aaron Rodgers, you kind of had a luxury of knowing you're always going to win.

[Taylor Lewan]

Yeah, no, I mean, it's. Yeah, it's nice having a quarterback. I. I learned that, you know, drafted with Aaron as a quarterback, like, you just. You take it for granted. I think the. The packers fan base takes that for granted. Far to Rogers to love. But ultimately for me, like, I didn't even going to the Rams. My last year. Year 11, I had Jared Goff, who's still playing at a high level, but he wasn't Aaron Rodgers. And I was like, wow, I miss Aaron. Like, he. He's that good and he can get you to the next level. But yeah, I mean, so much of your success based on the. Whether it's tackle, tight end, linebacker, quarterback play and some skill positions. So, yeah, I was fortunate in that regard. I played for, you know, two great. A great program, great organization, and we just had great pieces in place to get us to the next level, especially coaching, too.

Y' all had a long time coach up in Green Bay as well, so that goes a long way.

[Clay Matthews]

I remember when your defense was just. You guys were the topic. Obviously you had Aaron Rodgers, but just the topic of conversation because of LeBeau and all the different things that you guys did.

No, Dom Capers.

Capers. But it was the year where you guys played. It's like the defenses, you guys played against each other and talked about the schematics of how you guys did everything under the sun. You're having basically everybody on the line.

And then you have a second year player at the left guard spot. I still see the Chargers being able to expose that left side of the line of scrimmage. I see the Chiefs having problems. I think the biggest question mark around the 49ers and why people are down on them is they didn't do a great job of staying healthy. They lost a couple of defensive linemen this year. They're healthy. Christian McCaffrey is back. I know they lost Deebo Samuel, but I'm a believer in Brock Purdy not only on the field, but off the field. I thought it was a little western commercial where he was dancing up and down. I can get behind that kind of personality. Kind of making fun of yourself a little bit. I like them going into Seattle. I like them playing against that stubborn defense, and I like them covering that spread.

Those boys is going to be out there trying to compete. Like you said, they do have a high power offense on the 49ers. So you got to have a high powered defense and then you have the linebackers. They have, I want to say they defense, Seattle defense was top in the top 10, ranked number five. So those boys are not playing. They gonna coming after this boys. This is gonna be a matchup. They playing at the 12th Man Stadium where you, you've been there before.

I feel like if they win on first down, that's going to be the key to keep them in manageable down a distance. The continuity across the O line with San Francisco. I like San Francisco. Brock Purdy's paid now you got see you everybody again. They're healthy. Buy their stock while they're healthy. I like the Niners in this game.

The issue I see with Mike Vrabel and his strengths is he doesn't know what kind of play he's going to get out of Ash and Genti, what he's going to get out of Colton Miller, what he's going to get out of Geno Smith. But more than anything, Chip Kelly just came back from college. He was in Philly, and there's not a whole lot. You can't go back to Philly and watch. These are his tendencies because Chip Kelly is known for having a great offensive brain. So it's kind of like a We'll wait and see. And based on what they give us is what we'll put out there. And then Pete Carroll, I mean, you know all about. I mean, he won a Super Bowl. The guy was an absolute stud at usc. When I look at Chip Kelly, him being in Philly before he got drunk with power, they had a hell of an offense and then they started to fall apart a little bit. Then Howie Roseman ended up taking over again. Chip Kelly goes to college, has an incredible season, wins a national championship with Ohio State. Now he's back with the Raiders as an OC position and the perfect position he should be in with the offense he wants with a running back where he's going to get him downhill. I see the Raiders covering this game. I see the Raiders winning this game.

I got the over. All right, listen. I picked the Baltimore Ravens to win the Super Bowl. I pitched Lamar Jackson to win the mvp, and I think it starts week one. We all know Josh Allen can, you know, he can score points at will. He can do whatever he wants. But I'm going with the better overall roster right here, and that's the Baltimore Ravens. A better quarterback, the better running back, the better defense. You looked at their games last year. They split week, whatever week it was when they played them during the regular season. Derek Henry rushes for 200 yards. You look at the playoff game. Baltimore turns it over three times. Andrews drops that two pointer to take him into overtime or to tie it up at least. Didn't give the ball to Derrick Henry enough. I think they. They absolutely feed him this time against the middle of the pack run defense that the Bills have, I think he runs for another 200. I think the Ravens win this handedly with the. Handedly like, you know, two scores.

[Will Compton]

Two scores. Two scores is a lot.

[Clay Matthews]

I like the Ravens pick. The only thing that makes me nervous about the Ravens is just how sloppy they can play. Like, I remember watching that game last year. Who were they playing? The Chiefs in the opener? Just false starts, penalties, doing things to shoot themselves in the foot. They were still in the game. Oh, buddy. The tight end. Yeah. Yeah. Isaiah likely at the very end of the game. I do like the Ravens. I also like the under in this game. Just.

I think week one unders are the clearest path to success. When you're thinking about betting on NFL, week one unders is always the move. I like where your head's at. When you look at week one of last year against Kansas City Chiefs At Kansas City. At that point, John Harbaugh is trying to figure out what's he going to do with Derrick Henry. Because Lamar Jackson, you know, like 75% of his snaps before Derrick Henry was in the shotgun, you know, having. Having the back off to his right or left. Derrick Henry hates the having the shotgun RPO type of read thing. So they have to figure out a way to how do we get into center and get Derek Henry downhill? Obviously they figured out that out last year. The stat that I have that makes me go for the Ravens is Lamar Jackson's 12 and two against the spread when he's an underdog. I think that is. I mean, I picked the Bills. What's that?

Good stat. I like the Bill. I like the Bills long term. I like the Bills in the Super Bowl. I like the Bills winning the Super Bowl. Obviously, they were my futures pick. I like the Ravens covering here.

I'm taking Ravens money line. They gonna win the game. Plain and simple. They fueled off from last year, losing to these boys. I just feel like they got something. They got something to prove.

There's a lot of clips out there right now. A lot of times, you know, after the season. Oh, last year was last year. There's a lot of clips coming out there talking about. I'm not gonna say revenge, but like, they want to get their. As Shannon Sharpe says, their retribution.

Vikings are at the Bears. Let's see here. Minnesota favorite at minus one and a half. The 12 points in the game is 44 and a half points. A lot of question marks in this game about Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson. I know a month ago there's like clips coming out or conversations coming out about Ben Johnson getting mad at Caleb Williams because he's not understanding the play calls. He's not processing and understanding the game a whole lot. You think they start to work on it. You see like the couple press conferences between then and their last preseason game. Ben Johnson saying, yeah, we've kind of dumbed down the playbook a little bit. We're giving it a little step by step. Caleb seems to be receptive towards that. His processes are getting better. And then you get to this last preseason game and Ben Johnson is having a lot of conversation revolving around the first two drives, how they've been lethargic and they've been plagued by lethargic play on the opposite side of the ball their entire, their entire camp. Go over to the Minnesota side. You got J.J. mcCarthy getting his first start. He had a meniscus last year, was not, you know, ended up not playing, got it repaired. I think that was the long term best move for him. Kevin o' Connell is on a X's and O's like local Minnesota radio station show, giving a conversation about JJ's processes, his routine, the meditation, how he's picking up the playbook. He feels very comfortable about his quarterback with the weapons that he has going into week one. If I'm just looking at the two press conferences that I watched most recently, you feel a head coach. Ben Johnson has a lot of criticism revolving around his leadership capabilities come from the Detroit Lions. And you have a proven head coach, Kevin o', Connell, who seems very calm, very stoic about his quarterback even though he's a first year starter. It's his second Year in that offense. For those reasons, I'm going to take Minnesota cover minus one and a half.

See, that scared me. You just said the key thing. It's his second year but it's still his first year. No game time experience. He's going out there. Obviously we know they planned it, but they do got Kevin Byard out there known for making interceptions, picking off young guys, know how to read the offense very well. That's a tough one, man. And we look back, we're joking around and this guy walks up there, he's like, hey, Ryan Poles, nice to meet you. And I'm like talking, I don't know the name. And Will's like, hey, first off, I want to say it's great to meet you. I'm trying to pro. Who the fuck.

He'S a GM for the Bears.

He is there watching the game and his. He was lighting up about Colston Loveland. Yeah, this guy's come in, he loves his blocking abilities, he loves his catching abilities. So I like, I like where your head's at there. My worry is what's the head of the snake? It's the quarterback. And I think there's been a lot of disruption between head coach and quarterback that we've seen in the public eye.

[Delaney Walker]

I mean they got a lot of young guys on, on for the Bears. So we're going to see, we're going to see what's going to happen.

[Clay Matthews]

It comes down to Caleb Williams. This is his. Obviously, it's everybody's biggest year, but this is his biggest year. Generational quarterback. Generational quarterback. Like he's got the roster. You talked about it. DeAndre Swift. You got DJ Moore, Roma Dunes A. You got Luther Burden that they drafted out of Mizzou this year. You got Colson Loveland and Cole Comet. They revamped the old line, spent a lot of money to bring in Joe Tunney, Drew Dahlman and Jonah Jackson. You got Darnell Wright. Is he going to be the guy that they drafted out of Tennessee? Braxton Jones at the left tackle, but they got the guys. They bring in Grady Jarrett from the Atlanta Falcons, who's good on defense. You got Kevin Byard in the back end and Montez Sweat on the other side. Like they have the roster. It's all about Caleb Williams. And if Ben Johnson and him can get in line and he can execute the offense the way Ben Johnson sees it, whether or not it's dumbed down from what he was doing in Detroit, because when he's in Detroit, everybody's catching the ball. The creativity that Ben Johnson has, it's all there, motions, everything. But can Caleb Williams retain all of this stuff, dish the ball out to all these guys and make the offense effective and make Ben Johnson's offense work for him? I like Minnesota. I think there's. It's valid, all the question marks, what's JJ McCarthy going to be like? But Kevin O', Connell, he's proven it doesn't matter who the quarterback is. They do it year in and year out. You got Justin Jefferson. They spent money on the old line as well. They have a lot of new faces. But getting Ryan Kelly and Willie Fries out of Indianapolis, they're going to help offensively. They live under center. They're one of the top teams when it comes to play action. Pass. And they brought over to compliment Aaron Jones, Jordan Mason from the 49ers, who can run the ball really well. So I think again, they're going to live through the run game. You got play action. Passes being set up for Justin Jefferson. T.J. hawkinson is healthy. He's with them this year. Yeah. You got Addison, which Addison is suspended right now.

[Will Compton]

Yeah.

Yeah. For the car. DUI or domestic.

Six games, although it was three games.

Was it the dui? The dui, yeah, it was the dui. Yeah, he got suspended.

But still they bring in Adam Thielen back. You still got Jalen Naylor. Is it Naylor?

J. Yeah. Jaylen Naylor. Defensively, Flores is one of the best in the game, period. They're like. They're. They're like the only team to have, like, three guys over seven sacks because all the different packages and everything else. They got a good linebacker unit. They got guys up front. I like Minnesota in this game because to me, it's like, who's Caleb Williams going to be? And I think that answer is far to be determined.

Yeah. Talking about pressures, too. JJ doesn't feel like he has a whole lot of pressure. Like, you feel like, okay, there's going to be growing pains with Caleb's. Like, you got to show it now. Like, get out of the nail salon. It's time to figure it out.

They went out and got guys for you. This is. They got the coach for you. Like, this is the year for Caleb woods.

And it seems like the coach is not happy.

Yeah, Thielen's, you know. But who do they have out there? Aaron Jones can't carry the load by himself. I don't see their offense playing really well. And I tell you what, there's not a team that wins the off season more than the Chicago Bears. They don't actually win the off season. But there's always hype. There's always hope about it. But those clips I saw in the preseason of Ben Johnson's offense, despite, you know, the quotes that are coming out about, you know, working with Caleb, that drive they had on whatever it was. I know it's just preseason. I know it's just preseason, but I'm buying the hype for week one and week one only. I got the Bears.

This week we got the Detroit Lions at the Green Bay Packers. Jared Golfers, Jordan Love. The packers are favored at home with two and a half points by two and a half points. The over under on this game is 47 and a half. We gotta let the Green Bay legend himself.

Boys. There is 31 other NFL organization fan bases who are envious of the Green Bay packers after their recent acquisition of Michael Parsons. A little birdie was in my ear a couple days before. Didn't know if this was going to happen but I loved it and when it came true. This is not something they normally do. This isn't the Green Bay. The draft and developed Green Bay Packers. I know we talked about bringing in Reggie White, Charles Woodson, now Micah Parsons. They're showing with bringing in Josh Jacobs whose buddy who had all those interceptions. Nixon. No. Yep, yep.

Xavier McKinney, Kenny in the back end.

And now bringing in Micah. They're all in 1 in 5 in the NFC north last year is not going to cut it despite making the playoffs. They are good.

But Jordan Love, listen, we're healthy right now. He said 30 something starts. This is the year for the Green Bay Packers. You didn't mention the second level. But Adrian Cooper and Quay Walker, both absolute dogs, who's going to pick up the slack for Jair Alexander? You got Nixon on one side. You got Nate Hobbs, both former teammates of mine, Nate Hobbs on the other side. Who's going to step up there with Alexander leaving? I do like the Packers. I like the Packers a lot. They were your boy's super bowl pick. I'm even more proud to say that now that they have Micah Parsons.

The question mark I got with the Lions and Taylor, you could speak to this too because I know you know the old line inside and out. But they got new faces, man. They've. They lost. I forget how many guys are your boy Glasgow going to center full time?

Yeah. So they, they lose Kevin Zeitler to the Tennessee Titans. Frank Ragnow, who is one of the best centers in the entire league, he ends up retiring. My understanding is he's the heart and soul of that offensive line. He's not the most talented guy because you have the Taylor Decker and Penny.

[Delaney Walker]

Swell on both Sides, great tackles, great.

[Will Compton]

They're a top three combo in the entire league, maybe behind the Eagles, and hard for me to say another one and then possibly the Eagles.

[Clay Matthews]

Yeah.

[Will Compton]

That is, to me, the biggest loss for the Lions. I love Graham Glasgow. He was obviously very good at guard last year. He moves in the center. I know Graham personally by playing with him in Michigan. He's a very smart, very capable player. I don't know if he's the. He's going to be verbal as a leader that Frank Ragnow possibly was. Frank Ragnow gives me Ben Jones vibes. There was a. There was a game we played against the Jets. Our guard was not playing well, our left guard. So we pulled the left guard. We put in a different center, and Ben came and played left guard next to me. Instead of the center making the call, Ben was still staying up there, pointing left and right. Who's the mic? What's the safety rotation? All that. Frank Ragno gives me that vibe. So the biggest question, the biggest pain point for me isn't Lions losing their OC it isn't Lions losing their DC I think Jared Goff is a capable and smart enough quarterback to be very demanding about what he likes and does not like. I think it comes down to the center being gone, the leadership hole that is now missing with the Lions, which makes me edge towards edge toward the Packers.

[Clay Matthews]

That's where I'm at because it's like Glasgow ceiling. Not as high as rag now, but he'll be confident enough. Like, he'll be solid. But what are your guards going to be like? That interior is massive. Especially when you're a team that's known for running the football and running the football.

[Delaney Walker]

I mean, but they got the bats.

[Clay Matthews]

Packers got the run defense, too. One of the best in the league.

[Will Compton]

Last year they lost Kenny Clark.

[Delaney Walker]

Clark, yeah, he lost.

Because I think we obviously don't know who the true winner of that trade is until we see what the picks are and how those picks develop for Dallas. Jerry Jones, when he sits there and does a press conference of, like, who says, we can't go get a Pro bowl player now? We can. We are drafted. Developed team, which they are like, they have drafted numerous Pro Bowlers. They have so much talent on their team every single year. It's always a culture or it's like too much distraction within that building that doesn't allow them to be successful. But, buddy, like, you got a kid, Micah Parsons, who is a generational talent. He is one of those kids, 25, 26 years old, with, like, his. He has hit his ceiling of what his potential is. You get Kenny Clark, who's a great run stopper. He's a great leader for the packers for a very long time. But you. You're basically punting on the season, being like, we're going to be really great down the road. And the packers are saying, like, hey, we can actually win now. I think. I think Dallas right now, you look at Dallas, you guys have lost that trade until further notice. Right now, Michael Parsons, when it comes to the back, I think that's chess. One of the easiest things to fake in the league is the back. You hear from trainers all the time. L5s1 over here, I know he's got real issues, but other guys, like, if they're not feeling it, they got, like, backs can come back clean and they still. They still hurt. I think when negotiations started getting personal between Jerry Jones and Michael Parsons, like, who, what owner goes up to the player and negotiates the contract, then goes to the agent and says, hey, we got it all figured out.

[Delaney Walker]

Yeah, that was a lie.

Crazy old school. That was a handshake, man.

You ever heard the negotiation story with Tony Romo?

You should check that out. Legitimately. Him and Parcells, like, had him in a small room, and they were trying to get him to sign this deal. And ultimately Romo, like, postured up, kept his poise and everything else, and Jerry was like, I respect it out of him. They gave him the contract that Romo had wanted, but they got the deal done right there when they're sitting. Like, Romo said that they Were sitting like knee to knee. It was him, Parcells, they were trying to get him out of practice, trying to get him to sign. And it's a cool story, but I believe that he, he might have had Parsons one on one and they agreed.

[Taylor Lewan]

Especially when you look at how much the pass rusher market went up just this offseason. I think Max was the first one to stop. Max Crosby at 39 million. Miles Garrett 40, not. I'm making T.J. watt 45, Micah 47. I mean it went up 7, 8 million dollars in one off season, which is unheard of. So it very well could have been.

[Clay Matthews]

But, but, but, but when the Dallas, when Jerry Jones says our team got better after that trade, I threw up in my mouth, man.

Like I, I respectfully, if I were to play the other side and disagree with you, we know how important culture is in the locker room. Dallas was a bottom five defense across the board last year. It's not like he was so all world. And then there's this part, there's this part of being such a freak and so good in an organization to where you have the pod go, you have all this stuff going to where Micah is kind of transcending beyond the defense to where he's playing Micah Parsons ball however he wants to play because he knows he's got the entire city, he's got everything on his side. You go to the packers, you might have initially a little bit more of team playing team defense because you're fitting into a different puzzle.
