We did not come up with that rule. But it is a rule on podcasts, especially Inside the Bus podcast. But today we got to talk about. One of our guys hit a parlay last week, and we also have another parlay coming for you guys. We're going to talk about. What did we say? We're going to talk about. Jared's doing comedy. Oh, yeah, Jared is doing comedy. He went to Zany's last night. But I'll let him tell the rest of that story.

Jared came in this morning, was like, we have. The first thing Coop asked him was like, yo, how was the comedy last night? He's like, well. And then I'm like, save it for pod.

I texted JP and told him. But when I was like, at the end of the day, I was telling, like, everyone here, I was like, I'm shitting myself. Like, I was not nervous at all. I was like, now, like, all the nerves have hit. I was like, I have a feeling. Like, I don't even know what I was scared of. I wasn't scared about. I mean, I'll get to it. I don't know what it was. I was just scared of the whole process. Like, like up something besides the comedy. Like, things like, where do I sit when I get in there? Like, do I walk from the bed?

Do I get a water?

Overthinking everything.

[Jared]

Everything like that. Everything besides the comedy, even. Because I was like, I don't care if the comedy sucks. Like, the first one will. What?

Shut the up, bro. Oh, I thought, sorry, I gotta stop. But yeah, so I go there. I park like four blocks away. That was a whole. That's boring part of the story. But, like, there's no parking anywhere near Zany's jam packed show. Jam packed. So they have like three shows going on. Is packed out. Which made me even more scared. I was like, obviously those people aren't there for the open mic. I'm drawing this long. I get in there, sign up. I'm the first person to sign up. I feel like such a nerd.

Yeah, I'm the first one in line. Sign up. So then it's 8 o' clock when you sign up. 8:45 is when you find out if you're on. There's just 45 minutes to kill in there.

We were joking around when we did my podcast about like, like, all the dudes. So I went to Zany's a couple weeks ago just to feel out. I think I may have said that to y'. All, like, feel out the open mic. Like, not actually doing It. And it's like everyone seems so clicky and friends in there. I was like, man, I want to be. I want to be a part of this. And it was like instantly like me sitting by myself. Like, everyone was, what's up, dude? And then like, I like just talk to people. This one dude I talked to for like 45 minutes. I'll say his Instagram handle, I think his name's Scotty. Be funny. I think that's his Instagram handle. He's like a 45 year old dude that. He's just like, I love doing this. I've done open mics my entire life all over the country.

[Jared]

So cool. He like wrote. He like read my stuff. Like, gave me notes, gave me all this advice. He's like, you will bomb tonight. Like, but he was being like so cool about it. He's like, he's like, this is like, I like this story. This is hilarious. You're gonna bomb. Like, no one will laugh. He's like, and that's fine. Like, he's like, I'm telling you, you have a good story here, but you're not going to tell it right and it's going to suck. He was being so cool. He's like, everyone here.

That is cool though.

Yeah. And he's like, I'm going to read from my notebook. And I've been doing it for 20 years. Like, you read from your notebook. Just read it. And like, no one laughs at each other. Everyone's in their head about their notebook. Like, no one cares. So he got me so hype. And that's when I was like, dude, I feel like I already got the hard part done. Like, I kind of hope my name doesn't get picked. And then it didn't get picked. Me, him, and all the people I was with, none of our names got picked when they released the list and I was like, genuinely, like, not even remotely upset. I was like, I got over the nerves at least last night.

Do you know how they pick? Is it just like, that's luck of.

[Jared]

The draw because there's a lot of.

I was gonna say, how long is the list?

[Coop]

You were first. It's like, no, it's apparently it's like.

[Matt]

Like, is everybody there signed up or is or majority of people there to like just watch open mics?

[Jared]

I'd say I. If I had to guess, it's like 98 open micrs and then like a couple people are just there to watch. But it's. The room is full and the sidewalk is Full of people like that have signed up and they only pick. I could be wrong. Let's say 15 to 20 people. And there's like, I don't. I have no idea.

[Coop]

It's four. It's a four minute spot.

[Jared]

It's like some people get three, some people get four. I don't know why. Like, I. I think if I had to guess, newer people probably get three because I put on the form. It's like, are you new? I'm like, yeah. Like it's my first time and. But the dude told me, I don't know how true this is. It's probably just like boring. But he said they. There's like, he's like half that list every week is like regulars that come here that are like pretty good, but they're not like headlining yet, but they're like good open micrs. But then all this to say he recommended that spot in the east, that comedy club. It's. I don't even think it's a comedy club. I think it's like a venue. But they do comedy. The something.

But I'm gonna start doing that.

The comedian dude I was talking to last night, it's like, in his 40s. He has, like, 60 or 70,000 followers. But, you know, Comedian Live follows him. That's like. I was like, oh, they all know each other. And the comedian Live guy just, like, immediately put me on and was like, oh, I'll introduce you to these people. There's a show Sunday that he's putting me on, like, his guest list for just because he's. I just want to meet you. Because he puts on, like, showcases. I'm not.

It's so it's super cringey to say, you're going, right?

[Jared]

Yeah, I'm going to go. But I'm not. Like, people hate when people start comedy and they're like, yeah, I'm just using all these connections I have. Like, I'm headlining in two weeks. Like, I'm not trying to do that, but I just want to meet all the people.

Because open mics is, like, kind of awkward, just standing around. Like, I just want to be friends with the people. I'm not trying to take, like.

But that's also sick. Kind of like a side quest or doing.

Yeah. Yeah, I'm. I am. Like, I texted you. I was like. When I left last night, I was, like, so happy. I was. I didn't even do it.

I was like, this is just exactly what I hoped it would be the way.

It might honestly not be better, but it probably is a good thing to just get in there, meet people, like, get comfortable in the room first.

Yeah. In my head, I don't know what it was. It was just like, I felt like that was. Mentally. That was the hardest part to me was, like, signing up, waiting, and then, like, now it's like, I don't. I'm still gonna be nervous, but I don't know. It was like, it's definitely a mental block. That was okay. I got over that.

I feel like once you see your name on the list, like, the. As nervous as you were going yesterday, it's gonna be like, ten fold. Yeah.

All right, what number is he? What numbers he. Okay, so I got, like, five more people. Like, that's gonna suck. That'll be a whole.

I. I told the guy last night, which he agreed. I was like. Cuz my first joke is, I mean, y' all all, I think, know it is a story. And I was like, I have a feeling I'm going to go up there and just tell a story and like, like, get get you into the story. It's never funny.

And then, like, at the end of the three minutes, I'm like, all right, well, I just told y' all a story about work.

The yard, that was the one thing that it'd be. Clean the garage, mow the yard. And that was kind of your Saturday. The fact that that took up multiple Saturdays for me as a kid sucks.

Yes. And my mom's like they're trying to wake me up. Like apparently like I maybe I was screaming or something. Then she would take like them throwing up. She would take me to the bathroom and I'd always wake up like in the bathroom throwing up.

Yes. And it would happen only when I watched Halloween.

But then the next day, I didn't eat at all because I was on the road all day. Then I went out on Broadway because my friend was in town, and the first bar we were at, I threw up in the bathroom. The first bar, I went in a salad. Midday night, it was like. It was early. Like, the fact that people can just.

We. When we. When I want to back up to Susky this past weekend, like, some of the guys, like, when we would have recruits and, like, we would host them, my one buddy has a video of Goody. Like, it's just videos of them being completely trashed. And it's just like, I'm committed to Susquehann. I'm gonna be a river hog. And like, every. Everybody has those videos of just the recruit they hosted in 94. Like, 50 of the time.

Like, do your thing out there. And speech was good. Speech was good, but it was like. Like, I didn't have it. Not. Not that I didn't necessarily have a chance to talk to him before the game.

Did you have. What was your, like, recruiting experience like? Did you go on a recruit, Like, a trip to Sesky?

How did yours go? Because mine was pretty interesting.

Yeah, mine was. So my experience was completely different than any everybody else who went on a recruiting visit. Mine was not like that, especially at our school, because I was with this guy Brzzi, who is our starting quarterback. Nick. Nick. Nick Brotzman. And then another guy, Charlie Riley, my friend Dan Cash.

[Will]

If I just saw Mitch's friends names, if I saw Mitch's friends names on paper, I would hate them so much.

[Jared]

We call him Cash. His last name's Cash. We just call him Cash.

Yeah, no. Yeah, no. Mitch said that to us. Dead serious. Downstairs. He's like, yeah, our boy Cash, we call him Cash.

His name's Caleb Cash. We just call him Cash. But I was with Brazzy and I was with Charlie, but Brazzy wasn't even my, like, my guy. It was Charlie, but he quit that year. So we were essentially just chasing this one girl around. We were essentially just chasing, like, this one girl that Brazzi was, like, trying to get with the entire night. Like, I didn't really even get that, like, banged up or anything. And, like. And I. And I kind of sold you. Well, no, I kind of knew. So, like, I essentially, like, committed or was going to Susky no matter what because it had my major and I could play. But I was kind of like. I found this out later that, like, from the coach Z guy that works at Penn State, he, like, they have, like, recruits and they have, like, different dots. Like, green dot is like, we expect them to be a starter. Like, fresh engineered blue dot is like, come sophomore, junior year, like, each dot had different thing. I was the lowest dot, like, so I essentially, for lack of a better term in D3, like, walked on. And so, like, they didn't really. They didn't really care that I was like, yeah, I'm coming to Cesky. So it's just kind of like.

And then you went Sports center top 10.

[Matt]

Yeah.

[JP]

You're one of their most famous alumni.

[Matt]

I guess some would say. I'm still not on the list.

[JP]

No, but, like, the fact, like, Coach Z was like, yeah, you were. We wouldn't expect a thing from you. And now you're doing all this. Yeah.

Is that your only visit?

That was my only overnight. Like, Misericordia was another school. They were, like, actively trying to recruit me. I went to Ithaca, where Clump went, but that they didn't give me. I went there for, like, a three day, like, camp. Oh, like an overnight camp. Like, we were, like, literally practicing, so we weren't like, drinking or anything. And then it was like, one or two other schools. But the only overnight I did was at Sesky. But I didn't. Like, my overnight experience was nothing like anybody else.

[Coop]

Like, not fun.

[Matt]

Yeah, yeah.

[JP]

Chasing women.

[Coop]

I did. I did. I did one overnight trip, and it was at Mars Hill. Stayed with my boy CJ Shane, who went to Ravenwood. So that was, like, a nice familiar face. He was also really close with one of my best friends, Fam. Like, brewing. Like, it's a small. Like, everyone kind of knows each other, So I knew C.J. beforehand, which was nice.

[JP]

I'm Ravenwood.

[Coop]

Sorry. That just wiped my brain because I can't believe that. That's crazy. It's called. The city's called Brentwood, so leave it at that. But I go on this visit and, you know, I mean, obviously you're, like, so stoked. This is so sick.

[Matt]

I was nervous on mine.

[Coop]

Oh, for sure. I was very nervous. And there's this, like, huge party at the Lacrosse house the night that I'm there. Each room has, like, a different vibe. So there's like, one room that was, like, all black light, and that's where beer pong was. Like, it truly was like a. A mini, like, Blue Mountain. Blue Mountain State type vibe. And I was like, yeah, this is sick, dude. Like, I don't know. It was a blast. But the other recruit on the trip with me, it was just.

[Jared]

Y' all sucked.

[Matt]

It was just y' all too.

[Coop]

Just two of us sucked. And he ends up getting so hammered before we go to this party, and he throws up on me. Oh, in this dorm, like, in the dorm, like, pre gaming throws up all over me. Or we actually got. I think we just got to the party. That's what it was. We got to the party, and I'm in the kitchen in front of people, in front of the whole team, like, in front of everybody, all over me. And it takes everything in me not to beat the out of him, but luckily, my boy CJ's like, let's go home, change, shower, come back. So we. Luckily we do that, but the whole rest of the night, you're the kid that got threw up on, right? So that was the whole time?

[JP]

No, I'm actually the kid that's about to knock you out, bro.

[Coop]

The kid was still there, and I was like, I'm gonna beat his ass if he ends up coming to school here. He did not. And. But, yeah, the whole rest of the night. Oh, dude, you're the guy that got threw up on. Blah, blah, blah. When I get to campus for the first time, that was how I was known for, like, the first, like, couple months. God, that's.

[Jared]

That is so bad. Thrown up on is so much worse than even being the guy that threw up.

[Matt]

How did he even throw up? Did he, like, take a shot?

[Coop]

We were, like, right here. Yeah. And he just did. I remember when he did it and it happened. I shoved him so hard. Shoved him so hard, he felt. Fell. And then I was like, oh, God, it's his head. You're like, yeah. I was like, no way, dude. I wish I could remember his name so I could put him in the dirt, but that sucked.

That sounds awful.

[Coop]

It was terrible.

[JP]

Only, obviously, I never went on a visit, but when they were doing, like, pre rush at South Carolina, this is one of my most hilarious.

[Coop]

Official visit, South Carolina.

[JP]

My official visit to whatever fraternity this was. I was a. I was a top recruit to a lot of fraternities. Of course, Blue Chip was never gonna commit to one, but I went edging them all, wanted to meet people, and it's just. To me, it just showed, like, the peak of how you, like, make friends as a guy. And at the time, I was playing a lot of FIFA, and so I hopped on FIFA at the party, and I'm just. I'm rolling. And so, you know, I beat first. I beat, like, another. Another recruit guy.

[Coop]

Another recruit.

[JP]

Then I beat a sophomore, then I beat a junior. And then one of the seniors comes in, and they're like, hey, this is the best guy in the fraternity. If you beat him, you're in. Yeah, pretty much. And so I beat him. And it's an epic game. And, you know, everyone's going crazy. They're like, dude, you have to Join the fraternity. Like, you'll fit in.

[Coop]

Were you nervous or were you just like, I'm looking right now, the first.

[JP]

Two games, then the last two, you're.

[Coop]

Like, I don't have nothing to lose now.

And it was just, it's such a hilarious.

So that's how you were known on.

Campus by that fraternity for sure. Then I fell off.

You didn't go to any of them, though?

Like, I like, did the pre rush stuff, knowing I wasn't gonna.

Like, I was a very interesting world.

Without being in one because kids would get suspended and then they'd be like, hey, jp, you, you should just take his meals. Or like. And so I just go by the fraternity house sometimes, get lunch.

I would tell, I would tell my friends on Fridays, come for fried Fridays.

[Jared]

Oh, yeah, dude, the, the college I went to, that's like the longest, pointless name. Georgia College and State University. It's like not cool at all. My buddy went there, like when I was a senior in high school. And then me and my friend Mitchell, we went up there like over a weekend. Like when we're in high school, I just to see the campus.

[JP]

Yeah. And I mean, obviously we're not going to see sports or frats or anything. We're just like going to see the campus and like, go to a bar or something. We literally drove up Friday after school. All we had was Saturday. Like, we were just gonna spend the day there Saturday. And then Saturday night we were gonna drive like back home or something like that. We literally woke up Saturday morning. We're like, oh my God, like, we're seniors, right? We're like, let's do something crazy. I don't know why. We went to like a, a smoke shop and we bought CBD gummies, watched Halloween Town. We ate them at like 10am and we just fell asleep all day until like 6pm we never saw the town that relax. And then we just went home and then that was it. We never saw anything in the town. They were like, that was a cool campus. Like, that place was dope. So much weed there. Like, man, we just crushed it.
