Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another episode of Busting with the Boys. This is episode 327. Our guest today is none other than Josh Jacobs. Josh Jacobs played at Alabama because gets drafted by the Raiders. This guy ends up going from the Raiders to the Packers. He's done a lot of different media lately, but one thing he really dives into with Busting with the Boys is his fallout that he had with the Raiders. Talks about his conversations with Max Crosby, the higher up guys, different kind of situations where he feels like he was put in situations like some guy talking to him that's higher up at the Raiders on a phone call with somebody who is a reporter so they can hear the conversation. Very fun, exciting dude, you learn so much about this guy and what he had to go through, the trials and tribulations in order to be successful. Where he's at is truly almost could call it a miracle. Now, before we start this episode, we have a whole intro. We have interns on the bus, but we also need you to subscribe to this podcast. Doesn't hurt you at all and helps us a lot. And if you see this, you like this, please comment as well. It does a lot for our channels. Big hugs, tiny kisses. I love you so much. Let's get to the show.
Will Compton
All right, we're good.
Max Crosby
Be like busing with the boys.
Taylor Lewan
Hanging.
Josh Jacobs
With the fellas, betting on a game. No woman's gonna tell us what to do. And I've been over here just drinking beer and making that noise, baby.
Taylor Lewan
I'm hanging with the fellas.
Josh Jacobs
Busting with the boys, bro.
Taylor Lewan

But right now, Will Compton is going to talk to us about our presenting sponsor. I would read it myself, however, the font is way too small for my little eyes.
Garrett Hagus
Will Compton Busting with the Boys is Presented by the FanDuel Sportsbook. FanDuel is America's number one sportsbook. We have teamed up with America's number one sportsbook to give every customer a shot at boosted parlay winnings with a boosting with the boys 30% parlay profit boost. That's right. Taylor Lewan
Listen, we've been.
Garrett Hagus
If you want to follow. Listen, I'm telling you right now, if you want to tail anybody on the bus, I would tail Taylor. Especially in the hockey world. I feel like you've been. I don't know if you've lost in the hockey world to where you don't show your loss.
Taylor Lewan
Thank you.
Garrett Hagus
But it does seem like you've been winning in the hockey world.
Taylor Lewan
There was the first three games of the Toronto Maple Leafs. I did hit on all three of those games. I thought they're going to sweep. They lost the second game. I lost that bet. But I'm still in the Leafs overall. You're on the Leafs. The Leafs continue to do what the leaves are doing. I'm going to have to get in contact with somebody out there in Toronto, get my passport ready and fly on up there and catch myself a game because it is going nice. When it comes to ufc, you're going to look back, you're going to look back at what will Compton Taylor one has put out from a busting with the boys parlay. First parlay we put out there, three legs. Not one of them hit. Not one last time. I think one of them hit right. So we can assume at this point at least two are going to hit. At least two. JP's only work. They all hit JP.
Garrett Hagus
We need your best.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
But go to FanDuel.comBusting to get your UFC UFC 315 parlay profit boost or which goes live this Friday. That's FanDuel.com Bussin for your chance at a bigger payout from the fight or The NBA playoffs. NHL playoffs. Everything's going on. Just go on FanDuel. That's how the boys rock, man.
Taylor Lewan
That's how the boys are rocking now in the back of the bus as always. Garrett Hagus is sitting in the back right now. We got JP sitting the bag. We got Mitch Carsley running the sticks over there and Jack McFerson jumping back in to his old spot running the computer. A little bit comfortable.
Garrett Hagus
We miss you.
Taylor Lewan
It's nice and comfortable.
Garrett Hagus
Hope you're having fun in Texas, Sherm.
Taylor Lewan
Two young little birds came with us, dude. They flew down from Ann Arbor, Michigan. They are interning with us for the next seven days. They've already jumped in a little bit. They've had their leader, their captain Jared beaming has been taking care of them since yesterday afternoon. He's our to my right.
Garrett Hagus
Are you Going to introduce them or should they introduce themselves?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, go. They can introduce themselves.
Garrett Hagus
Like name, position, age, age, age, or like with the, with the, with the rookies. The rookies have to do their signing bonus. Should we do their nil?
Taylor Lewan
Oh, yeah, absolutely, if they, you know.
Garrett Hagus
If, if they felt comfortable. We'll start with Tom Hardy on the left and we can go J.J. mcCarthy on the right.
Taylor Lewan
All right, Nico.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Give me that last name one more time, nico.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
Andre Ghetto Jr. At Michigan. I'm a safety. I'm number 31 on the football team. 30 against Ohio State. 20 against Nebraska.
Josh Jacobs
Okay, Nico.
Garrett Hagus
All right, Nico.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
My nil signing bonus is $0 because I'm a walk on.
Taylor Lewan
Let's.
Garrett Hagus
Let's go.
Taylor Lewan
Nico the Grinder.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
Yeah, just excited to be here.
Taylor Lewan
All right. All right. Where are we from? Where are we from?
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
I'm from Bay Area, California.
Taylor Lewan
Bay Area, California. Okay, I'll ask my question after.
Max Crosby
All right. I'm Bryce Wilcox. I'm from Peachtree City, Georgia. I play football as well with, with Ghetto. I play receiver. I was a converted defensive back who now plays receiver. And my nil is zero dollars. Same as, Same as Nico because I'm a walk on.
Taylor Lewan
But.
Max Crosby
But it's. It's good. It's good to be here. We're excited. And yeah, you can tell the boys.
Taylor Lewan
Have been through the media process in college.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, couple Grady Cads. They'll be with us for this entire week.
Taylor Lewan
The entire week. And so the boys at Bay Area, what made you go to Michigan? What was, what was that thought process going to be?
Garrett Hagus
My question, both you guys, Georgia and.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
West coast and walking on at the University of Michigan.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
Well, I was actually planning on going to Columbia University in New York to play Ivy League football. That didn't really work out. And then brain. No, that's why I didn't. That's why. But my older. My older brother Lucas Andreghetto played running back at Michigan. And when the whole Columbia thing fizzled out, I ended up like asking him to send Coach Harbaugh my film. And then he was like, yeah, you can play. Be a walk on here. So I ended up going to Michigan and. And as a db and then within the first week was switched to running back because we had no walk on or no scout running backs. So I'd never played offense before. So did that for a year. Did not work out very well. They switched me back to DB and then been there for. Since. Since my sophomore year with Coach Clink.
Max Crosby
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Let's go, dog. Outstanding. Outstanding. Bryce, why'd you do it?
Max Crosby
All right. So growing up, I kind of always. I watched Michigan because my. One of my best friends, his dad's side of the family was all Michigan fans, and his mom's side of the family was Ohio State fans. So we'd always watch divided Iron bowl, things like that at home, and went over there to his house. And, I mean, when I, like, 20, 30 people come to this game just to go watch this at this kid's house. So going over there, I was like, holy crap. They don't. They don't play around up north about football. So I'm like, all right. So that's. That's when I first kind of looked into Michigan, and then I was originally committed to Navy. My whole senior year went and visited, and it was. It's not for everybody.
Josh Jacobs
It's.
Taylor Lewan
It's.
Max Crosby
It's tough. It's tough. So I had a buddy go there the year before, and he was telling me, like, you don't want to do this.
Taylor Lewan
We.
Max Crosby
Everything is military. There's no football. Everything is military. This kid was like 240 and see him six months later, he weighed 195. He was a defensive end. And I'm like, what are they doing to you? He's like, we get up 5am, run, just march around campus. And I was like, all right, I got to figure something else out. So I hit a couple camps after my senior year and got lucky, and they reached out and, yeah, that's how I ended up there.
Taylor Lewan
Let's go, dude. Let's go. Good for the boys, man. Stoked, obviously. Shout out. Chris Bryant, he's the one that facilitated this whole thing, reached out to me just before we went to Michigan for the spring tour. Said I got too young, Hung hungry dogs that want to come and do an internship with you guys. We've, like, putts around with the idea of doing an internship.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, we've messed with it. And people. There's been a lot of people to reach out. We've just never kind of dipped our toe in it. But knowing that this was like a week long, they approach us face to face, resume in hand.
Taylor Lewan
Resume in hand. We were literally in the middle of the. The. The gym.
Garrett Hagus
We were about to either work out or we just got done.
Taylor Lewan
No, no, we were about to. I don't think we were. We would have been able to talk, have that kind of conversation.
Garrett Hagus
True. Yeah. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
So we about to get a workout. You guys hand us a manila folder with everything in there. How long did you Guys, work on that.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
So actually, since Bryce Underwood committed to Michigan, I kind of found a tie between Barstool and Michigan. And since then I've been emailing you guys and Barstool asking for to do an internship over and over again. I think I sent around like 60 emails in total. And once I found out you guys were doing the spring college tour and you guys are coming to Michigan, I was like, I gotta talk to somebody. And then I remembered that you were Chris Bryant's OV host. And so I asked him to call you and ask you about it. And then from there on it was kind of just like, let's go. But we worked on our doc for about three weeks, four weeks before we got to you guys. And then got lucky with some extra card stock laying around and printed it out and had it made all nice for you guys. And then let's get.
Taylor Lewan
Let's go, man. Did you read it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, we took. We took a good hard look at that, didn't we? We did background checks on them and everything.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Called a couple people.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, he did.
Taylor Lewan
Picked off young Underwood. Had to feel good, right?
Garrett Hagus
Knowing the boy.
Taylor Lewan
Know your future bosses were sitting there watching you just being like. They almost took it to the house too. Took a thud from Bryce, though. He did, he did. Kind of.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
What am I supposed to do? We're wearing shorts.
Taylor Lewan
I'm just saying, man. I'm just saying. Thanks.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
We actually told my. Our other walk on safety, Max Reyes before practice. I was like, I gotta. I gotta get picked today in front of these boys.
Taylor Lewan
Let's go.
Max Crosby
And it worked out well.
Taylor Lewan
Promises made, promises delivered. Well, we're stoked to have you guys, man. It's gonna be awesome.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, it's gonna help us too because we've again, Taylor was saying it, but we've always thought about it. We've just never like executed on doing it. So you guys are a good like trial run throughout this week because we are looking at doing like summer internships.
Josh Jacobs
I think.
Taylor Lewan
We are.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, we're gonna do it. We're gonna do it. Yeah, we're gonna. Yeah. I'm always cautious about this.
Taylor Lewan
I know. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
I'm a dive in guy. We will be doing intern. A summer internship.
Garrett Hagus
Yes. We will be doing.
Taylor Lewan
Jared Beeman will be running the interns.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
The entire time. We wanted Jared to do a complete like presentation in front of all of us today for you guys, but he snuck in Sunday and gave you guys a little. Yeah, he.
Garrett Hagus
He still did a presentation, but yeah, he Got around it a little bit by meeting up with him yesterday, bringing him to the bus, and talking with him about everything.
Taylor Lewan
Seems like Jared had a tough weekend, too. Mitch Carsley had himself a little party at the house. And he stiffed you?
Bryce Wilcox
Yeah, it was Friday.
Josh Jacobs
We were.
Bryce Wilcox
I. It was my girlfriend's birthday this week, so we were having a little, like, birthday party for a Saturday at my house and told all the boys. I know G and JP Were out of town. Jack was possibly going camping, but. And Sherm obviously wasn't here. So I told Jared, Coop and Jack and Klump, those are the boys who were in the shop, like, hey, we're having a little party at my place. Probably gonna head downtown. And they're like, oh, yeah. Was going downtown always in the plans for that day? Yes, it was. It was Brook's decision. It was her day.
Garrett Hagus
But the decision happened on the day. Or that was kind of the invite. Hey, we're gonna start at the house. We're all gonna go downtown.
Bryce Wilcox
We're gonna start at the house, and we're gonna go from there with, like, 80% certainty that we're gonna head downtown. It was Brooke's day. We're letting her choose whatever she wanted to do. Told all the fellas. Jared's like, oh, I am in. Jared knows Brooke personally, and, like, they lived in the same apartment building in all of this. Jared's like, oh, I'm in. Like, my girl just moved into town. Mackenzie wants to meet everybody. Like, this. This will be perfect. So I'm like, all right. I texted Jared Saturday, hey, what time you guys rolling through? He texted me back immediately. Ah, we're doing some errands. They're taking longer than expected. Coop texted me saying he wasn't going to come. Jack texted me saying he wasn't going to be able to make it. Clump called me. He's like, yo, I feel so bad I'm not going to be able to come. And Jared, like, he's going to be the one to come through. He got two wine drunk or something Friday night with.
Garrett Hagus
On Friday, when we were in the shop, he was even talking about coming.
Bryce Wilcox
Yeah. And I'm like.
Garrett Hagus
Because we were talking about Goon. And he's like, I'll be coming from Mitch's, so I might be a little sauced up. But he was committed to going. Yeah, as late as Friday.
Bryce Wilcox
And then with the crazy part is he's like, we're setting up stuff around the house, but if you guys want to come over after being downtown, you're more than welcome. Like, Jared, what are we doing and.
Taylor Lewan
What are we doing?
Bryce Wilcox
So, yeah, none of the boys didn't end up showing up.
Taylor Lewan
Seems like it seems like a tough, tough weekend.
Will Compton
I wish it ended there. And I hate to do this to Jared with him not being on the bus. Mitch, what time was the party?
Max Crosby
12.
Will Compton
I get a text from Jared maybe around one or two. He out there?
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. Jared just walked up, and he's standing there listening.
Will Compton
Jared, I'm sorry.
Garrett Hagus
Jared, come sit down.
Will Compton
It's honesty hour. I get a text from Jared that afternoon. He says, hey, are you even sitting around? Y'all want to come over and watch.
Garrett Hagus
The Kentucky Derby in the middle of the afternoon?
Will Compton
Yeah. Not good. And hearing about how this is all going down with Mitch, I'm thinking back to my text. I'm like, no way. No way Jared would do this.
Taylor Lewan
But he did.
Will Compton
But he did.
Taylor Lewan
Post game. You're going to Broadway. There's no post game.
Garrett Hagus
There's invited everybody over. When Mitch had already invited everybody over for his girlfriend's birthday party that you said yes to going to.
Jared Beeman
I know I said you didn't go because you.
Garrett Hagus
You drank a full bottle of wine on Friday, stayed up late, slept until. Slept in until noon on Saturday, and then had the audacity to then invite everybody that was already invited to Mitch's party to your house to watch the Kentucky Derby undermine the party.
Taylor Lewan
He tried. He tried to make his own party.
Jared Beeman
It's not justified. What I would say is, yeah, I up. I slept in Saturday. I wanted to get my chores done earlier. Chores come first. Mitch had the pregame. I texted him, or I guess he texted me first. I wasn't gonna be able to make it then. They were already out earlier than I thought. So then when I realized they were out. That's pretty early for going out. No, if you're day drinking. Well, I didn't.
Taylor Lewan
If you're daydreaming. Yes, it was. Yes, it was the middle of the day.
Jared Beeman
So once I heard they were out, I was like, I'm definitely not hitting Broadway, but post game could be my house. No one had brought up a post game. Not a bad spin zone on this. Pregame, going out. Postgame, my place. I rest my case. No one had nothing to say when I said that. I do apologize. I fucked up.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Jared Beeman
I mean, I don't have.
Taylor Lewan
I don't understand. Yeah. You could have just said I was gonna go, be able to make it.
Jared Beeman
I did. But then I thought it was a nice little. It wasn't like A pity. It was just like, oh, yeah. And I kind of want to watch the derby later. Y'all want to come? I spent the whole day doing the yard. Love to have the boys over.
Garrett Hagus
We'll make it right.
Jared Beeman
I did have some people over, and then we had a fun little derby party, man. There was a post game that is.
Garrett Hagus
Just imagine bro Taylin's birthday. You invite me, I'm committed to going. I sleep in, and I'm like, hey, I'm not gonna make it. And then in the middle of it, I'm inviting everybody at your party over to my house.
Jared Beeman
If I didn't give Mitch the text.
Garrett Hagus
That would tell you that. Oh, yeah, I ended up having a party that day.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, we'd be. We'd have. We'd have a sit down conversation.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. Did you leave Will hanging too?
Jared Beeman
Oh, yeah, he did.
Garrett Hagus
I wasn't gonna bring that up.
Jared Beeman
Yeah, he wanted.
Garrett Hagus
He did forewarn that he'd be a little sauced up. Coop also bailed. So once it was two. Once both of them bailed, it was kind of like, there's nothing you can really say.
Jared Beeman
I was gonna goon. People were over. I couldn't.
Taylor Lewan
People were over because you invited them over.
Garrett Hagus
Yes, exactly.
Taylor Lewan
So you had plans with Will. I text him to make you able to come over. Like, oh, I'm no longer gonna goon.
Jared Beeman
No, I'm not putting.
Taylor Lewan
You did nothing. I'll do everything.
Jared Beeman
I take all the fall. I take all the fall. I missed my prior plans because I got a little sauced on Friday. So then I was trying to make it up. I was like. Cuz, like, there's like, McKenzie's like, well, I thought, make it up to who Myself? Like, I just lost a Saturday because.
Garrett Hagus
It ain't making it up to mid. No, but it was like.
Jared Beeman
Like, I already up. Like, I didn't have a. Like, do what I want today. I was like, just doing in the yard. I mean, it was fun, but it wasn't day drinking. So I was like, got a night drink now. Invited some people over, went to a Thai place, got some good food, some good drinks. They came back over. It was a fun Saturday for. For me sleeping in and missing the party I wanted to go to.
Garrett Hagus
We're glad you had fun, man.
Taylor Lewan
Mitch, we're sorry, brother.
Jared Beeman
I apologize. I'm in the wrong. I apologize.
Taylor Lewan
Let's keep the bad news going.
Jared Beeman
All right, I'm out.
Taylor Lewan
Good job, Jeremy. Let's keep the bad news going. Will Compton doesn't watch hockey at all. Doesn't Dive into it. The Four nations tournament. He starts to, like, kind of dabble. Hey, this is kind of interesting. It is kind of cool. I'm trying to tell Will, because my brother, he played junior hockey. He was all about it, Played the ice. Actually played Austin Matthews back in the day. And then all of a sudden, the St. Louis Blues are in a Game 7, Game 6.
Garrett Hagus
When it started, when I started to.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, when he started to dip the.
Garrett Hagus
Toe because the Blues were down. They were down in the series, I was like, man, it'd be cool if they could, like, win the first round, because I knew that they went on, like, a. Like a record streak to get into the playoffs.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
But, yeah, it started getting one of.
Taylor Lewan
The Predators last year. Similar to the Predators, St. Louis is down or St. Louis is up 2, 1. Game 7, 3 1, 3 1. End up coming back and scoring with what, less than three seconds left.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
To go into overtime.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. It was like, less than two seconds. When they hit that Ricky safe shot. What do they call it? Top shelf.
Taylor Lewan
What do they call that? Top shelf.
Garrett Hagus
Rickshaw shot in the top shelf.
Taylor Lewan
End up going to two overtimes. While Will is watching this, he's tweeting out, if they make it to the second round, I got to go back to Bonter. We'll get some whatever pizza place he's always talking about, go catch a couple of things. And what do they do? They the bed. Will Compton decides to put his name behind a team, and they the bed.
Garrett Hagus
The reason I was doing that, too. Like, I was trying to build it up because somebody from the Blues hit me up. Gruden had went over the weekend to the Blues and Cardinals, and I was tweeting about, like, you know, sharing his stuff because he's going to the St. Louis spots. He's going to the St. Louis teams. I'm like, oh, I didn't know he loved the Blues like that. So I'm like, giving that love. And somebody from the Blues hit me up. They're like, hey, if we win game seven, we would love to have you out in round two next weekend when it's at. When it's in St. Louis.
Taylor Lewan
Damn.
Garrett Hagus
And I'm like. He's like, I know you're a Bonter guy. Used to have a place on Turtle Lack. Turtle Lack Lake tdl. Shout out to boys and Turtle Lack. And so we were connecting over that. But he's like, we'd love to have you out for a game in St. Louis in round two. And so I'm fired up because it's like, oh, that'd be easy flight. Easy thing to go to.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. And a fun time too.
Garrett Hagus
Fun time.
Taylor Lewan
Playoff hockey is so hard to beat, dude. The atmosphere is unreal. And the boys just go hard the entire time.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. And so I, I, I placed a bet on FanDuel with game six. We won that money line. And it's like, man, they could, they whooped their ass too, in game six. It's like, man, if they pull this off, they're up 3:1. I had bet on them right before the game. And so I started to put the, you know, if they win, start to start to build it.
Taylor Lewan
The car before the horse. Damn.
Garrett Hagus
Well, bro, I'm watching that live. And when they made that shot, I just said, holy shit.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. When they go to overtime, you think it's over, right?
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. And then the longest overtime, nobody's like scoring. They're getting shots on goal and everything else. I'm like, look at these guys. I'm like, bro, teams that have to go, that are, that take care of business in their series and they're resting until the second round. The teams that are going like having a war all the way through Game 7 and going into OT, I'm like, these boys are have to be exhausted out.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, it's crazy how many games a year they play and they go sit like a seven series at the start of the playoffs. It should be like best of three, best of five, best seven. But they just rip, man. They rip around all day, every day. And it's like they're always having a couple beers after the game, doing whatever. Like, hockey is such like a traditional, like a lot of booze bags in that league. A lot of booze bags. But they just go so hard 45 seconds in their shift.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Playoff hockey is awesome.
Will Compton
Do you regret the tweet?
Garrett Hagus
No.
Taylor Lewan
Come on now. I told you. You got a way to come.
Garrett Hagus
I was even excited to.
Will Compton
I like, imagine if somebody texts you during a Nebraska game and they in Nebraska, Michigan, y'all are, y'all are up by two. And before Michigan gets the ball, somebody texts you, man, if Nebraska wins, we should blank. How would you feel if you got that text?
Garrett Hagus
I would just say, hold it off. That sounds like a fun idea. Like, just hold that thought. I'm not thinking it wouldn't bother you.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, because I remember in the fall.
Garrett Hagus
I don't believe in jinx.
Taylor Lewan
I would tweet that's not true, cuz in the fall I tweeted something. You did a eye smoke thing, Didn't He. During the fall.
Will Compton
It was at the Oregon.
Taylor Lewan
The Oregon game.
Will Compton
But then he.
Taylor Lewan
That's right. The storm chase.
Garrett Hagus
I just did the eyes. I just did the.
Taylor Lewan
Exactly. But you were aware enough to just.
Garrett Hagus
Like, hey, there might be a storm situation happening in Oregon. Exactly. I won't lie. I sent that tweet and I was like, oh, right. To march down the field. And then JP makes a comment. I'm just immediately like in defense mode. Like, I put the eyes. Like, I thought about it before I even hit tweet.
Taylor Lewan
You're in the same mode as you are right now.
Garrett Hagus
I did the if factor. I did the if factor.
Taylor Lewan
But you believe in.
Garrett Hagus
I believe in jinx. But I like I'm prefacing it by saying if they pull it off. I'm not saying they're going to pull it off. I don't know, man. All the 20, 25, you need to reevaluate.
Taylor Lewan
It's been a tough year of betting for the boys. Been a tough year.
Garrett Hagus
I feel like everything I. To take down the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, I'm now paying for it post super bowl in everything that we've done. March gave everything for it. Everything.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Everything.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Will Compton
What did it cost?
Taylor Lewan
What are we out here chasing is the question.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
What are we chasing?
Garrett Hagus
It might be. I think it turns around come football season.
Taylor Lewan
I think it turns around 5-16-17. Jack and I are back in Vegas. Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. You've been hitting, though. This is. I'm talking about my own personal journey. Like, I do feel like a nice cold.
Taylor Lewan
I've been hitting it. I have it like when I'm like fully in tune to the games because I was traveling a lot this week. I would just place a bet, but I wouldn't tweet. Then I would lose that bet. And it just happened to work out that way. We'll see what happens in this next series with Toronto because I am kind of fired up for Toronto. They like one of the. They're one of the original six hockey teams in the NHL. Them and five. I'm not going to say the five others. But anyway, it's Toronto, Boston, I think Detroit, Montreal. Is the Rangers one of them? I. The Rangers. And then there's one more. Maybe the. No, Philly's not. Philly's not one of the original six. Anyway, this is boring for.
Will Compton
Everybody knows.
Taylor Lewan
Do it. Okay, yeah, I'll do it. But anyway. 1967 is the last time they won a cup. They've had the best record they could. Pot they've had since 1967 and the last couple of years, they've gone into the playoffs and then just like, just fumble the back. They have been a team that should have won in the first round. They don't win the first round. They finally get over that hump of beating Ottawa in the first round. And I just got this feeling, boys. I got this feeling the Maple Leafs are going to take the cup this year. And I had it right before the playoffs. And I'm put. I'm putting my name behind them for the rest of time. Well, for the rest of this year. Then I go back to the Preds immediately.
Will Compton
I think Will's on them, too.
Garrett Hagus
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I do have a second team.
Taylor Lewan
Okay. As long as it's not the Maple Leafs, we're good.
Garrett Hagus
It's the Capitals.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Okay.
Garrett Hagus
That's the Capitals. I just. Again, I'm a little gun shy, but I do have a little bit of equity into. In. In the Capitals. Being there in Washington, the Capitals were the first. There's the first team where I got to experience playoff hockey. And it is. It's unmatched. Playoff hockey is unmatched because I didn't really go to Blues games growing up. I didn't really go to any. So when I was with the Redskins, like, getting to go to Caps games, it is absolutely sick to be in those atmospheres other than ob.
Bryce Wilcox
Name a player.
Taylor Lewan
No, don't do that.
Bryce Wilcox
Nicholas Backstrom.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Bryce Wilcox
Pretty sure he's retired.
Garrett Hagus
You wanted me to name another player.
Taylor Lewan
That's okay. You don't need to know the whole entire team to put your name behind somebody.
Garrett Hagus
Is he retired?
Taylor Lewan
He's 37 years old.
Bryce Wilcox
He's still playing.
Taylor Lewan
I had a kid. Dude. Come on. Come on.
Garrett Hagus
Hey, Tom Wilson.
Taylor Lewan
Nice. Nice. I. So let's. Let's do this.
Garrett Hagus
Come on.
Taylor Lewan
Now, if the Capital.
Garrett Hagus
He's been there forever, too.
Taylor Lewan
If the Capitals in the. In Toronto make it to the Eastern Conference finals, we got to go to a game.
Garrett Hagus
We can talk about that.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
This.
Taylor Lewan
Anytime. I. Ted. Gotta travel. Any kind of travel. This man is the hardest.
Garrett Hagus
I'm down. I literally said, we can talk about that.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, but the way you said, I know you. I've known you for seven years now, eight years.
Garrett Hagus
And there's been times where I say, let's talk about. We do it.
Taylor Lewan
And I just think to myself, oh, I'll have to really press him. So I have to know if I really want to do this to get this done. That's all right.
Garrett Hagus
It'd be sick to go to. It'd be sick to go to DC.
Taylor Lewan
For a Caps game or Toronto for a. I heard Toronto just go so hard. I heard they are all about. They're like. They're like the Dallas Cowboys in the NHL. People just.
Garrett Hagus
I just know we get plugged in with the Caps.
Taylor Lewan
Okay, fair enough. Yeah. I don't know. I have zero plug other than FanDuel Sportsbook. That's all I got. What else we got going on, boys? We got an ad. Kentucky Derby. Let's do an ad talking about Kentucky.
Will Compton
A comment was made too, that 20 against Nebraska. We'll have to get into that.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, yeah, that's true.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
We do have some news before we do any. Any real ads. By the way, Burt Kreischer's got some tour dates coming up. This is a real ad. July 18, he's in Winnipeg. Aug. 9, he's Halifax. If you don't know Halifax, watch the movie goon. Halifax Highlanders. August 23, Spokane, Washington. August 24, Calgary. That boy's up in the north for a little bit.

Keep the bad news coming. Michigan lost our president. He dipped. He went to Florida. Something's brewing there.
Garrett Hagus
Wait, when did he leave?
Taylor Lewan
I think it was this past week, right? Yeah, he hit the transfer portal, decided to go to Florida. And this guy, he came in, made a massive splash. Everyone's like, dude, this guy is the man, the president. This dude is like, he's going to be here forever. Everybody loves him. And then Kevin Bacon, he'd had a nice couple of comments. He's got, he's a professor at Michigan, has wrote a bunch of books. He's like the biggest splash you've ever seen as a president with the most underwhelming departure of all time. Even his like statement was like Kevin Bacon's words, not mine, insincere. So he dips, goes to Florida. Then all of a sudden I got to wake up this morning to Garrett Hargis sending me an article saying oh, about Sharon Moore, your guys coach self imposed two game suspension and he decided to pick two games and one of those games happened to be Nebraska. Bunch of ways you can look at that. Does he have to do two in a row or does he feel that good about Nebraska? That's the question we'll comprehend.
Garrett Hagus
I think he has to legally do two in a row.
Will Compton
Well, they're imposing it on himself.
Garrett Hagus
He didn't choose week one because week two is Oklahoma. He played at Oklahoma. He wants to coach against Oklahoma.
Will Compton
And then it's out there that there's a potential for it being a lot more games. And this is Michigan trying to get ahead of it. So they've hand selected these two.
Taylor Lewan
How much longer are we going to do this? Is the question.
Will Compton
You tell us.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, you're right. Like ncaa, let's make a decision. Let's move on, let's move forward. All the coaches have already dipped. Sharon Moore is out there carrying the flag of Michigan. We beat Ohio State every single year. Like let's just. What are we doing? Yeah, like it's over. It's move on. We won the Natty. Get over it.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, you know.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
I think they're trying to figure out the entire punishment for you guys.
Taylor Lewan
The entire punishment. We've done it like Harbaugh.
Garrett Hagus
You haven't though because they have been.
Taylor Lewan
Like two games against top five teams. The two hardest games, really the three hardest. I said Maryland was gonna be difficult too. Penn State, Ohio State. Shron Moore had to step in as an interim head coach for those games. He had to find out while they got to Penn State. The minute they landed Penn State they go. By the way, you can't come with us anymore. So he dips those. A team in a blender. A team with a bad culture would have folded immediately. They ended up going and winning all three of those games. End up winning the national championship. Then all the coaches go and dip. Get out of there.
Garrett Hagus
Okay, so now there because they know Stuff's coming.
Taylor Lewan
Connor Stallions is in high school football now, like, and Sharon Moore self imposing too. It's like, what more we got to do? What more do we need to do?
Garrett Hagus
They're trying to uncover all the details. You got to trust the legal process.
Taylor Lewan
They're kicking a can is what they're doing, brother. They're just kicking a can and it's all good, dude.
Garrett Hagus
They haven't been able to dial down exactly everything you guys did because when you cheat and you lie, it takes a longer time to uncover it all. So there's been like small punishments, incremental punishments. Like as it's happened, I feel like.
Taylor Lewan
You'Re just being nasty.
Garrett Hagus
No, I'm trying to, I'm trying to give you an unbiased opinion about it.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, they could have cheated, they could have lied. But I mean, we had Conor on here. Just because he was like super diligent about everything he did, does that mean he cheated?
Garrett Hagus
I mean, you have your conversations with Connor Stallions, I have my conversations with Con Salis. I know there's two different opinions in here. We won't get into it all, but I'll say this.
Taylor Lewan
We just keep on going. We just, we were just going to keep on keeping on. That's what we're.
Garrett Hagus
It does bum me out that Sean Moore's not going to be there for the bus and bowl.
Taylor Lewan
I know, I know, I know, I know. Because it is.
Garrett Hagus
Maybe you should call and ask him to pick two other games.
Taylor Lewan
Should we call Shiron?
Garrett Hagus
If you want to.
Taylor Lewan
No, I'm not gonna do.
Garrett Hagus
Hey, if you want to, I'll call him. Master.
Taylor Lewan
We'll have, we'll have a conversation, you.
Garrett Hagus
Know, like, like, zoom out.
Taylor Lewan
It's.
Garrett Hagus
If he's going to coach in the Oklahoma game, you want to get the next two out of the way because.
Taylor Lewan
Your most important season. Yeah. Back half the season and he went to Oklahoma. That's going to be a very personal game for him. He's going to want that one and it's in Oklahoma. But you. Oklahoma's not gonna be great this year, huh?
Garrett Hagus
I have no clue.
Will Compton
They're stoked on their quarterback, but they've just been getting worse and worse over the last three years. Venables, hot seat.
Garrett Hagus
Hot seat.
Will Compton
Hot seat mid season, hot seat level.
Taylor Lewan
That's tough.
Garrett Hagus
Tell you who you need to look at for some future stuff and that might be Florida.
Will Compton
Seriously, they're gonna be.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, our. Florida's gonna be nasty.
Garrett Hagus
That quarterback, what's his name? D.J. he's a stud. Your guys was president, going over there. It's kind of like they're.
Taylor Lewan
He's a stud.
Garrett Hagus
They're building. They're pouring into what could be happening over these next couple years.
Taylor Lewan
God damn. Yeah. They had the hardest schedule in all college football last year, right?
Will Compton
Yeah. And Lagway didn't even play most of the year, really.
Garrett Hagus
And when he started playing, they were good. They were nice, bro. It'll be fun, too, to have Florida, like, good in college football, because I just, you know, the team. Tebow days.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. That's when we were in high school. That's when we were in high school. The Tim Tebow. Every kid wanted to be Tim Tebow.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, they'd have like the. They'd have, like, you know, Nike would work with them on the sleaze where they have the different color sleeve under their uniform. Yeah, they were. They were fired.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. That blue and orange kind of goes hard, too. Kentucky Derby. Did you watch it?
Garrett Hagus
I watched it a little bit, but, I mean, we couldn't. We couldn't put anything on.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, when you can't. When you can't put money on something like that, it's tough to just go and.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, I was watching the horses run a little bit. Yeah, I was watching them.
Taylor Lewan
Watching them gals gallop.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
They're talking about all they good. The weather where it rains a little bit. Yeah, I saw. Because we drew the hat. Final gambit. I saw that he was kind of like one of the favorites, so. Oh, we might have a. We might have a horse there, but I'll be honest with you, I didn't watch it a whole lot. I had it on as background noise, but I didn't, like. I wasn't, like, tuned in and locked into it all.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, yeah. I'll be honest. I didn't see any of it. I was in Canada. I don't think they even know what horses are up there. It just didn't work out for me up there. It didn't work out.
Will Compton
What I think they should do is if it's bad weather like that, they should postpone, because I want to see the horses at their best, trudging around.
Taylor Lewan
How do you just post all the people show up?
Will Compton
I mean, I'm just saying, if this is the big marquee event of the year, I want to see everyone at their best.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, but there's something about horses running as fast as they can, slinging mud, and the jockeys that are just covered in mud when they're all finished up, one of them's Crying because they won. The other ones are crying because they lost. There's something about that.
Will Compton
I feel you, but I. I want to see the horses true their thing.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. You want. I mean, you just postpone every football game when it's raining.
Will Compton
It's different stadiums, indoor.
Taylor Lewan
Everyone just does indoor moving that way.
Garrett Hagus
And it's like the training that these horses do, like, they get taken care of, like, they're just supreme athletes.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
There's going to be some adversity. It's not going to be. It's not going to be a beautiful day every time you step on the course.
Taylor Lewan
What is wild is every. Every horse in the Kentucky Derby was a descendant of Secretariat.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Which is dope. Yeah. If I knew a lot more about horses, I'd be a lot more fired up about that situation. A lot more fired up. But that's Kentucky Derby.
Garrett Hagus
It was hard for me to watch, too, because we. We went to a birthday party over the weekend. And so we got home after that birthday party, and she wanted to essentially, like, foster this balloon. She named it Baba. And so we had to play with this balloon, like, all afternoon. Something like when we putting her down.
Taylor Lewan
Kids and balloons, man. I just don't understand putting it down for what the fuss is about.
Garrett Hagus
She would have to put the balloon down for bed. It was an entire thing.
Will Compton
Did you pop it?
Garrett Hagus
No. No. I was terrified. I'm like, hey, sweetheart. We can't let this balloon pop. Like, it will just, like, sometimes things die.
Will Compton
Rue.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Let them know.
Garrett Hagus
Charles trying to tell her, like, hey, sweetheart. Like, it's not a human. It doesn't have a heartbeat. Because she's just like, if she can't put the. If she can't put Baba down for bed, for bedtime and, like, give it a hug. She's like, I love Baba. And she was, like, hugging it, trying to give it kisses and three squeezes.
Taylor Lewan
What about this balloon? Was there had to be a lot of balloons at this party?
Garrett Hagus
There was a lot of balloons, but she was playing with one. She wanted to take one home, and when she took it home, she wanted it to do everything that she was doing. She wanted that, like, you know what I mean?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Kids always have a habit of picking, like, the most fragile thing.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
That is. Yeah. Just the balloon situation. So wild. Because when. When they would have win or will whenever their birthday is, we obviously put a lot of balloons down. We just, like, you know, blow them up. They're laying on the ground, they all get so fired up. And then slowly got to distract Them while you just assass fascinate, you know, 60 and then they go to bed. You take out like 10 more.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
And then the next day they got a couple more. It's just.
Garrett Hagus
They just get fascinated with the most random things. Like, we'll be at the park and she wants to take this leaf home and she wants the leaf to sit with her in the car.
Taylor Lewan
What's going through that brain for that to happen? It's crazy.
Garrett Hagus
Leaf, do you want to eat some food? And she'd be like.
Taylor Lewan
Shout out kids, man. Yeah, shout out kids. All right, what we got? We feel good.
Garrett Hagus
Oh, hey, did you see the. Did you see Dave Portnoy's video about the Jews?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, bro, that is nuts. Like, who the would do that?
Garrett Hagus
Like, I mean, I mean, we got some up people, like, people are gonna do that, especially kids like 20 something year olds that are drunk in a bar and they think it's funny. What's funny about the race that, like, in their world they might have like an ideology that is like the Jews. So they think it's funny to do something like that. We see a lot of up stuff. It's like, is it surprising? No, but I do think it is. They mess with the wrong one. Yeah, he's sending them to Auschwitz.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Let's just. Let's just say in a world where it's okay, like, that joke is funny in whatever world, why go to the barstool bar and do that? Why, like, where Dave Portnoy, who is like, who is Jewish, who is Jewish, proud of being Jewish, was at the UFC in Miami, calling, what's his name? Bright.
Will Compton
Yeah. Bryce Mitchell.
Taylor Lewan
Bryce Mitchell. A Nazi and waving a Jewish flag. You're gonna go to that guy's bar and you're gonna put the Jews on. Oh, they're all the time.
Garrett Hagus
They were 100 aware of what they were doing.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, you think so?
Will Compton
Yeah, yeah, for sure. I mean, the fact that you see.
Garrett Hagus
The photos of these dudes.
Taylor Lewan
No, I haven't seen the photos, but I saw Dave's 3 1/2 minute rant about how you got one girl on the phone talking, how dumb she is. She's like, can I call you back? He's like, no. Yeah, like these people getting fired. Guys are on the phone with him.
Garrett Hagus
Crying like, please, those guys are doing it. He's like, you have one hour. To me feeling like you're trying to make this right.
Taylor Lewan
But how do you, like, what do they do?
Max Crosby
Nothing.
Taylor Lewan
Like, what can you do?
Josh Jacobs
You're already done.
Taylor Lewan
You're Cooked, bro. Imagine being on Dave Portnoy's bad side is one thing. Like, be. Actually be on Dave's bad side is not a bad thing. It's when Dave hates you and he hates these kids, he's just. He's a ruiner of lives. He can do it, dude.
Will Compton
But imagine being the manager or the bottle girl, whoever it was, that was placing it on the side, like, all right, this one's ready to go.
Taylor Lewan
And no one sat there in the back room and go, are we sure about this, guys?
Will Compton
Exactly.
Garrett Hagus
I think he was saying that one of the girls was like one of the waitresses was trying to push back a little bit, but ultimately it still went through because you're right. It's like when you're piece sent together, it's like, hey, guys, we're not doing this.
Taylor Lewan
And then the culture of like, you.
Garrett Hagus
Guys need to get out of here right now anyway. Yeah, yeah.
Taylor Lewan
And the culture of, like, clubs and sparklers going off. Everyone's so fired up. Yeah. The Jews clip that.
Josh Jacobs
The video of it.
Jared Beeman
The no 1 in the booth actually, like, looks stoked, right?
Garrett Hagus
They're all kind of like, oh, you can tell.
Taylor Lewan
Thinking some of the other people are.
Garrett Hagus
Like, this is not right. Could you imagine that's as dumb as you. A. Decisions you can make.
Taylor Lewan
Being the one girl in there that's pushing back a little bit, you know, like in that culture of, like, clubs and bars and bottle service and all that, like, everyone's kind of like trying to be Mr. Cool Guy. She's like, hey, maybe we shouldn't do this. And she probably got, you know, made fun of for it.
Garrett Hagus
You got to be the one that's.
Taylor Lewan
Like, you got to be. You got to be the ones out of history if we let this. Yes.
Garrett Hagus
And the fact that they thought it was cool, like, what losers. Yeah, imagine like 20 years, 20 years from now, they're like sitting, you know, at a fire pit, or they're sitting with some friends and somebody asks a question, like, what's the. You know, they ask like some deep question, like, what's the biggest lesson you've learned in life? And they're like, I gotta sit down. Like, yeah, I got a story for you. When I was 20 something years old, I did this. The Jew sign. And the owner of the bar was Dave Portnoy. Everybody's like, what? And then you're like, he sent me to Auschwitz. For however long, they're going to get educated to learn about whatever it is. And it's like, that's their learning Moment. They're like, I've been sober ever since. Like, I haven't draked since I just.
Taylor Lewan
Sitting there like, hey, is there anybody Jewish here? No. All right, I'll tell this story. Like, it's just. That is crazy, man.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, yeah.
Taylor Lewan
They up of all the people, too.
Garrett Hagus
Did you see. Did you guys notice Bilzerian getting in his comments?
Taylor Lewan
No, it went in Dave's.
Garrett Hagus
Oh, yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Was it. What's. What's he up to?
Garrett Hagus
You know, Dan Bazerian's on the complete other side. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, he's on the. He's about that sign.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, he's about that sign.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
And then one of them, I think he said, like, you look or you sound like a. Or you said something to him. And then he wrote up another thing. How about sending them here to learn about X, Y and Z? But Bazerian was like, in a couple of them.
Taylor Lewan
Dan's in the camp of, like, maybe the Holocaust didn't happen. That's.
Garrett Hagus
It's either that or he's like, this other thing happened before that that's way worse and way bigger, but nobody talks about it. Because all this deep historical conspiracy. I have no clue. I truly have zero clue. Yeah, but he fights. He fights the war on the, like, the other side.
Taylor Lewan
I know. I wonder what pieces of information he saw to where he. Like, it's like, I truly believe this now. He's not the guy. I'm going to ask for advice on things.
Garrett Hagus
You want to have like a good. Oh, shit. Scroll. Just go to Dan Bazerian's profile and, like, scroll through his replies. Him replying to certain things.
Taylor Lewan
He's just gone crazy.
Garrett Hagus
Just like. Jesus Christ.
Taylor Lewan
You remember seeing him at ufc, he.
Garrett Hagus
Just looked like an action figure.
Taylor Lewan
He did.
Garrett Hagus
He looked like a. A small soldier. He looked like that dude.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Chip.
Garrett Hagus
Hey, Chip Hazard from Small Soldier.
Taylor Lewan
What a great pole. Yes. Like. Like two and a half inseam shorts. Like, just. Yeah, he was just a ball of muscle. A ball of Jewish hating muscle. Yeah, you sound like a. That is crazy.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, dude.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. So what ended up happening? So these kids are actually going to Auschwitz?
Garrett Hagus
I think so.
Taylor Lewan
Actually traveling to Germany, going to Auschwitz and. And figuring out. I mean, that's kind of who's paying for it.
Will Compton
I. I think Dave and I think that what they're trying to do is make it as like, red eye as possible to where it's like, they're not fly there. They go there, do the tour, and then fly back, like, right after.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. Because Anton Don's always Dave's working with Robert Kraft from New England. They have the program or something to where they're tapping into that to do it.
Will Compton
You got to put them on spirit over there. Oh, yeah, yeah. Put them on the boat.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. You. After we get off this bus, you got to go see photos of these dudes.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. I think for the next half an hour after we get off this bus, I'll be looking at Dan Bieran reply. Comments. And what these kids are up to. What do these kids look like? Is.
Will Compton
Are they exactly how you think they'd look?
Taylor Lewan
I think shaved heads.
Will Compton
No, no, no. Not like that.
Taylor Lewan
Okay. I don't know what kind of. Kind of catch we're talking about here.
Garrett Hagus
Seems like they've had, like, work done.
Will Compton
Yeah. Just mega douches.
Garrett Hagus
Tony from Battle Camp.
Will Compton
Whoa, bro. Tony's our king.
Garrett Hagus
Well, you got to take a shot at Tony.
Will Compton
Tony's the man.
Taylor Lewan
Stop. Stop. You guys keep doing this, he's going to want to actually do something.
Garrett Hagus
When. On that note, though, with Battle camp still top 10 on Netflix, when do we know for a second. A second season?
Taylor Lewan
So usually they do numbers on seven days, which we. We were told it's doing great. But 28 days is when we'll know if they're like, okay, we're gonna do a season two or not.
Josh Jacobs
Okay.
Taylor Lewan
So I'm kind of just sitting limbo and just wait. But then I think to myself, like, when would we ever do this? Like, with our schedule, am I going to be able to go and host something for a month?
Garrett Hagus
It's a. It's been a sick. It's been a sick concept.
Will Compton
The finale is awesome for. I'm not gonna spoil it for anybody, but y'all need to watch the finale.
Taylor Lewan
Is it good?
Will Compton
Oh, yeah.
Taylor Lewan
That fires me up.
Will Compton
I love the challenges, man. The challenges are so creative.
Taylor Lewan
How about the spelling bee?
Will Compton
They had Taylor running the spelling bee.
Taylor Lewan
No. When they said, we're gonna do a spelling bee, I thought. I'm. I literally think I thought about you guys. I was like, when they see this, the last person should be running a spelling bee. But those words were crazy.
Will Compton
Crazy easy. He misspelled quail.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
He was like.
Will Compton
They were like, quail. He was like, damn.
Garrett Hagus
Yes.
Taylor Lewan
And then shoebomb. Like, heard it. He spelled a completely different word.
Will Compton
They asked him to spell ecosystem. He thought. They said, echo. Echo system.
Taylor Lewan
And then my brain's like, he may.
Will Compton
Be through the match, but maybe not. Yeah. Taylor, spell advantage.
Taylor Lewan
A D, van, V, A, N, T.
Will Compton
A G, E. Getting better.
Taylor Lewan
Come on. Because all those words you're saying. I was basically waiting for that question. I was like, quail, Q, U, a, I, L. Not that hard. Ecosystem. You guys don't want to worry about ecosystem. We. We're solid on that one. E, C, o, s, y, S, T, E, M. Come on, now you're cooking. It's just what it is, man. Like, we got to know these words, guys, but it was a lot of fun.
Will Compton
If you do another season, they should let us come up with. They should let bus and come up with a challenge.
Taylor Lewan
If we do another season, I want someone from the bus in the show.
Will Compton
If they don't allow it, they should let us trade one.
Garrett Hagus
If somebody on the. On the bus got to be on the show, Jared Beeman.
Will Compton
He wouldn't be able to handle it, bro.
Garrett Hagus
That's what my.
Taylor Lewan
My top two votes would be. J.P. or Jack. I think they would.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, they'd be. They'd be.
Taylor Lewan
Because Jared could easily get voted out immediately, and I feel like Jack will do a good job athletically enough. They're good team players. I think they would be solid. I think Jared might be. Jared's like, shooby.
Garrett Hagus
That's what I'm saying. The carrot, the characters less likable, the characters on the show. It's like you being the host. The concept is awesome. You have all these things, and you just have cameras on these. Just different types of people outside of Tony. It's not like you're showing up to watch these people do a show, but you end up kind of, like, loving it because they all have these quirks. And I just think Jared would be so funny, bro. Whether he's overthinking it, it doesn't matter. You just let Jared eat.
Taylor Lewan
Just let Jerry. But would Jared show himself? Because he doesn't even want to be on the Back of the Bus podcast. He doesn't want to be on camera.
Garrett Hagus
That's the best part.
Will Compton
The only. Yeah. Jared would crush. We would just have to be there for him when he returns in the months leading up to the show coming out, because, you know, he'd be. Mental war might start unraveling a little bit.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Will Compton
Like, no, Jared, trust me, everyone is going to like you.
Taylor Lewan
Everyone's gonna like you. Comes out like, whoa. Whoa. That edit was tough, huh?
Will Compton
Why were you demon?
Josh Jacobs
You should have been Jared.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
No, but it was well thought of. I love the, like, with the wheel. Like, you'll kind of run it like it's a vote. Like, it's got all these different nuances to, like, kind of the gaming aspect of it to where some chance. Some. It's like, you know, people know who's voting for who. Maybe they don't know who's voting for who.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
And then ultimately, it doesn't matter because then it's, like, up to the fate of the wheel.
Taylor Lewan
Right. You know, if your name's in there one time that we saw a couple times in the game.
Garrett Hagus
Right. Like those couple episodes where somebody voted on one person, it just fills up. And then somebody who's just on there once goes home, and it just shocks everything and then leaking into that afterwards. Everybody knows, like, damn, they were going for me the whole time.
Taylor Lewan
Right.
Garrett Hagus
And starts building up all these storylines with trying to go after each other.
Josh Jacobs
That's.
Taylor Lewan
I was impressed by Avery because Avery in the beginning of the show was the one that she was. It was her and Irina or her and Lexi in the first wheel ceremony.
Will Compton
I forgot about Irina.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Oh, yeah. But, yeah, Avery was, like, voted for a bunch, and then all of a sudden, she just, like, did a great job of, like, going under the radar because I. I didn't know. I still have not, like, watched the show. The only part of the show I've watched was with you guys. But, like, I would just show up, and they'd be like, hey, we think they're going for this person. And then I would kind of just notice how Avery was, like, public enemy number one or two. And then all of a sudden, she's, like, halfway through the thing, I'm like, man, she must be just handling herself right in camp, because it is fun the way, like, challenges athletically. Then you add the punishment so the people who win have a little bit of power over to see if they want to get you on the wheel to kind of add a couple extra names. And then it's a vote. So it's popularity. And then it all comes down to chance at the end.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Like, if you're on the spoiler.
Garrett Hagus
But that one contestant where their name. Their name was only on there one time. They were also in the challenge, or what was it called? The punishment challenge. They win the punishment challenge. That was the ice cold. That was the cold tube one where you got to hold your breath.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
That person wins all the stuff and does all things right, and they're very loved and favored in the game, and then their name's on there one time, and it gets hit, and then they go home.
Taylor Lewan
It's crazy.
Will Compton
At the end, you want your name on the wheel for the finale.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Will Compton
Which is a nice twist.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, that dude, I wish we could. I mean, the ending with the planks. Were you trying to be deceptive?
Will Compton
Favorite one?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Will Compton
It's just a challenge. It's not even a spoil.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. I was going to tell something about somebody that was in it. Yeah. That was kind of scary. That happened during production because I was.
Will Compton
Mad about one thing that happened on there. I felt like there should have been more force.
Taylor Lewan
I'm with you on that.
Garrett Hagus
The thing that we on that.
Taylor Lewan
But also, if you were me in that position, like, being a part of it, I'm thinking to myself, there's no way I'm going to press this. But you have to go up here, right?
Will Compton
It was like a little kid that won't go off the diving board.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Yeah. But it was like, obviously, you're up there, bro.
Will Compton
That's one.
Taylor Lewan
That tower is high. I mean, when we're up there shooting that Porsche, I'm thinking, yeah, that's scary to stand up there. But there was one individual who was not afraid of dropping because they've done the drop before, and they knew that the plank they were going on was going to be a drop plank. And they have their harness on, but they're not clipped in. And they just go, okay, I guess I'll just go. And they walk out on the plank with nothing on, and they have, like, one step on. And, like, me, the camera people, the production people, screaming in my ear like, crap. Grab, like. And I'm like, hey, oh, we had to, like, get him back. And they had to clip them up and then go out. But this dude, I. I've given away a little bit, but this dude was, like, so laissez faire about it. Ends up dropping. But he could have, like, legit just. Christ would have ruined the whole show or ruined everything.
Garrett Hagus
Go check it out. Battle Camp on Netflix.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Also the Grudge by Stevie.
Taylor Lewan
Also the Grudge.
Garrett Hagus
Just a little something.
Taylor Lewan
Have you heard anything about the Grudge?
Garrett Hagus
No.
Taylor Lewan

Taylor Lewan
George Kittle's new round of applause for George Kittle, friend of the bus, one of the boys. I know this happened last Tuesday, but we didn't get a chance to talk about. A lot of things unfolded. George Kittle reached out to the boys, said, hey, got this news. Do you want to break it? We say, yes, absolutely, we want to break it. Becomes the highest paid tight end in NFL history by 0.1. He signed a $19.1 million per year contract, 40 million total, and guaranteed 35 million at signing, plus 5 million in 2027. Unreal. Awesome. We have this brainstorm. We're getting graphics ready. Coop's crushing it. There's a little think tank in the back. How do we. Hey, 6:00am this is going to go out. Boom. The information goes out. I'm sitting there for my little red light. I say, let's see what's going on here. Pop on the old search bar on the X. What do I see? I see rap. I see Ian Rapper, who's a great guy. I see NFL and pro football talk. All want to talk about the news, but don't want to give credit to the people that gave the news.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
So Will Compton doing Will Compton. Things decided to handle business.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. We had to take a walk. So my morning coffee, I saw Shefty, he was giving us credit. I did. I did see Ian, like, quote tweet the busing with the boys, tweet and say what deal got done. Or he, he said something that essentially gave credit to Busin, but then his next tweet was writing out everything contractually. And then the NFL uses that because they're paying Ian, so they're boosting him. And then, yeah, the pro football talk, when he. They weren't giving us credit, then they went back by being like, oh, your credit's right here. So they went in and edited the article to make it seem like they had credit there for us the whole time.
Taylor Lewan
Trying to make you look dumb.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. And since it's like, you know, I know Ian, we know Ian. I know he's with the Pat McAfee boys. So I know he's like one of the boys. So I'm thinking, like, as I'm doing this walk thing, he'll understand and get the joke and everything else. He did to an extent. But he did FaceTime me. Yeah. He reached out To Delaney. Hey, can I get. Can I get Will's number?
Taylor Lewan
Delaney Walker.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, that's funny. Delaney's like, oh, let me ask him. So Delaney calls me and said, oh, yeah, yeah, give it to. Give it to rap. And I answered. I'm like, oh, look who it is. I got a little grin on my face. And he's like, interesting video you had yesterday. I was like, yeah, I thought so too. He's like, that's an interesting perspective. And it wasn't.
Taylor Lewan
He said that.
Garrett Hagus
It wasn't like full jokes at first. It was more of like, he. I think he felt some type of. A little. Some type of way, because I want to make it seem like, oh, he. He's sensitive, he doesn't get it, blah, blah, blah. I think he felt like a. A type of way to an extent about the video. And so I was just like, oh, yeah, what was. What was your perspective? And he kind of gives it out. He was kind of. He was kind of, kind of telling me why the NFL, like, why it goes the way it does. He's like, nobody really gives a whole lot of credit anymore. I was trying to do my thing. He's like, look, I'm fired up that you guys got the George Kittle news. Even though I felt like I was on an inside track, he's like, I see Shefty gave you guys the credit.
Taylor Lewan
He had to put a little thing up there.
Garrett Hagus
Put a little thing. He had to put a little thing in there. But he's like, I saw Chef, to give you credit, I even, quote, tweeted you guys and. And. And give you a thing. But I'm essentially, when I'm writing it out, I'm verifying. And then obviously, the NFL, he's like, the NFL. I'm an employee of the NFL. So it's like, NFL, espn, they'll promote their guys in house who kind of report on the news. And you kind of know that the whole time. And I'm just like, you know, I was making it seem like, you know, I was just. You were kind of the vessel because it's like the NFL's going. You kind of don't know who's behind those profiles of the NFL. So knowing that Ian's tight end, he's also a boy, it's like, I'm going to use him. He's going to be the vessel to try to get to the NFL. So I was just doing a fun thing. And he's like, look, you know, he's like, if. If we have to fight, you Know, I had to. I had to. I had to scrap with that dude at the Starbucks. And we started laughing. I was like, oh, all right.
Taylor Lewan
Good.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. So it was. Everything was good. The beef was squashed. There wasn't even beef because rap's a good dude. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was like.
Taylor Lewan
I thought he would for sure understand the joke.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. I was like, I legitimately was just messing around. I think he did know that. But I also think at the same time, he was like, you know, he just wanted to talk about the video.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
He's like, tell Taylor I said, what's up? You boys keep crushing. Keep doing what you're doing. And I was like, I'm going to put up a tweet, if you don't mind, and talk about your little. Hey, I heard, kind of heard about the scrap at Starbucks. I want no smoke. I want no problems. But, yeah, everything was good.
Taylor Lewan
Good. What was the deal with the Starbucks?
Garrett Hagus
So at the draft, if you remember, there was a big storyline of two media people, like, getting after it at a Starbucks, and it was Ian, and I don't know who the other guy is. Do we. Do we know who the.
Will Compton
Jordan Schultz.
Garrett Hagus
Let's just make sure.
Taylor Lewan
Also a friend of the pod.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, I have no clue. But I remember they were talking about on the McAfee show the next day, there's, like, a big scrap, but apparently it wasn't like a. It was just like a confrontation. There was some yelling and shouting, but I don't think it ever got physical.
Taylor Lewan
Inside scoop world, man. There's only a handful of those boys.
Will Compton
That's hilarious, because. So when it was going viral, I guess maybe between you and Ian, he followed me. I think he followed somebody else in the back. And he sent a dm, like, hey, love the show.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's. He's a homie. It was just like, when I'm giving him the little grin, he was like, oh, interesting perspective. I'm just thinking, like, I'm fully joking around.
Will Compton
You know what I'm saying?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, you don't want to actually.
Garrett Hagus
Oh, Schultz, dm.
Will Compton
He's like, love the show. Love what y'all are doing. After all that beef was going.
Taylor Lewan
Dude, I don't know if this is true or not, but I'm pretty sure Schultz's dad or somebody, like, was like, CEO or like, one of, like, their family's, like, one of the founders of Starbucks.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Like, they're like that.
Garrett Hagus
Really?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. I remember. I remember getting. I remember my agent reaching out to me and being like, hey, this guy, Jordan Schultz, he's like starting to become like a insider guy. Do you mind going on his YouTube show? This is like 2017 or something like that.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
So, boy, another. Another version of somebody who. Their parents are super successful trying to make a lane for themselves. Just like Arthur Smith. So shout out Schultz. Dude, we should get a rap and Schultz in a rough and rowdy.
Garrett Hagus
Get them on the bus.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, yeah. We're not the Barcelona. I don't know why.
Will Compton
It's still fun.
Taylor Lewan
Still fun times. Still fun times.
Garrett Hagus
No, the whole credit world is very interesting.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
It seems like with everybody inside, there's. Oh, yeah. Very sensitive. It's like anytime those moments get to happen for us, I always see it as like such like a positive thing because you're always like the guy. Like, we're always positioned as the guy going against the man. And it just helps create like, you know, fun content to make off of it. But it does seem like it's a very sensitive thing inside the. The insider world.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. And also, who gets credit?
Garrett Hagus
Do you ever see the ones where it's like, you know, say it was me and you. Somebody will tweet and it'll be like, per will and also Taylor, you know what I mean? Like, they're double crediting because maybe they didn't figure out who's the first one to it. So we're giving credit to both.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, I've seen that. I just don't. I just think about, like, being in that world of having to be on your phone 247 and getting information and you have to be the first guy to it.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
It sounds like a horrible job. Yeah. Something that I would never want to do ever.
Garrett Hagus
But hey, if players call us up there, hey, do you want to break the news? We'll break.
Taylor Lewan
We'll break the news. Yeah, yeah, yeah. As long as it just falls right in our lap. Yeah, we'll absolutely do that.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. We'll create some chaos.
Taylor Lewan
We're gonna get you guys the episode. But before we do, let's talk about this merch we got going on bwtb.com we got hats. We got hoodies. I put this little boy on cuz it's a little chilly out in Nashville, Tennessee today. Big fan of these sweaters. Big fan of these sweaters. Comfy on the inside. G, you did a phenomenal job. These hats right here, you can tell I've been wearing this one quite a bit. Dude, I love this hat. This dad hat. The new bus and trucker hats. We figured out the Depth and all those things. The quality. You look on the inside, it says busting with the boys on it. Very nice there. A nice, classy tag. This one doesn't have it. A nice classy tag on the back where you kind of just pin it all in. Very nice hats. Very good quality. BWTB.com go and check that stuff out. It's phenomenal. Well, you got anything before you take them to.
Garrett Hagus
I did have a gas. Shout out. No free Shout out.
Taylor Lewan
Go ahead.
Garrett Hagus
Oh, and we got Gunar X. Oh, yeah, we do.
Taylor Lewan
Do you want to do Shout? No free. Shout out. Gooner.
Garrett Hagus
Shout out. No free Shout out. Number one. It's Mother's day weekend, so shout out the moms. All the moms get all the free shout outs. Here's my. Here's my fire. Shout out, bro.
Taylor Lewan
Okay.
Garrett Hagus
Licking the cookie dough off the little mixer. The little mixer.
Taylor Lewan
Tool whisker.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. A little egg beater. Licking the cookie dough off of the egg beater.
Taylor Lewan
Phenomenal.
Garrett Hagus
Is that one not gas, boys?
Taylor Lewan
Solid. Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
I thought that was going to get an oh, Charlie made cookies last night. I'm sitting there. Brew comes out that day. Here's yours. I'm just.
Taylor Lewan
That tongue is crazy. We got any shouts in the back, boys? Shout out people going to Mitch's party that actually went. Yeah.
Bryce Wilcox
Shout out people that say they're coming to your party but don't end up showing up.
Taylor Lewan
Damn vibes back there are tough. Jack, you got anything?
Max Crosby
Shout out to a well constructed campfire. Yeah. Because I went out for one day this weekend with some friends and it. It was kind of rainy. It was rainy in Nashville and it was raining out in Waverly where we were. So we had a bunch of wood already set out. And obviously it gets wet. You don't know if the fire is gonna roar like you want it to. And we had a really big team effort. Constructed four or five people. Some people are trying to find dry wood, some people are trying to find anything we can to start this thing. And after about 30, 45 minutes, we got this thing purring. It was one of the best fires I've ever been around. So to go from the low point of soaking wet wood to a really special fire, it takes a lot for a group to come together and make that happen. So shout out to a great campfire. And it just brings everyone together.
Taylor Lewan
God, you're right, dude. You're right. So, yeah, it was fucking gas, dude. That shit was awesome.
Garrett Hagus
Well constructed fires.
Max Crosby
Yeah, I got one.
Taylor Lewan
Let's go. All right, Bryce, step it up to the plate.
Max Crosby
I'm gonna go shout out to you guys, the boys, for letting us. Let us come on this on this on this week. So we're looking forward to it. So shout out to you guys.
Taylor Lewan
All right, dude, Nice. Very kind, Very kind. Good luck following that one. Ghetto.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
Yeah, I know. Shout out. My family, they came out this past weekend for my 21st birthday. So that was. That was good out here in Nashville. So, yeah, Shout out. Shout out. The boys.
Taylor Lewan
All right, all right. What was number one bar on Broadway? Number one bar on Broadway you like the most?
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
Kid Rock's.
Max Crosby
Not even close.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, okay.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
Probably were.
Taylor Lewan
I think Mitch is losing his New Year's resolution.
Garrett Hagus
He might be.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
Hey, y'all ever need a financial advisor? Head up. Lucas. Andre.
Taylor Lewan
Lucas.
Nico Andre Ghetto Jr.
Morgan.
Taylor Lewan
Stanley. Morgan Stanley.
Will Compton
Shout out. No free shout out. We were with Sitting's family this past weekend and there was. She has a bunch of nieces and nephews, and one of them, Neely, she is six years old, and she stayed the night at the same house Sitting and I were staying at. And before she went to bed, she comes up, she says, jp, I drew you this photo. And she drew a photo of me, her, and sitting and was like, I love aunt sitting in JP. And this is like a 9:30, last minute thing. And I'm just like, man, this is. I'm not even blood related to her. And I'm feeling that Feeling that love. So I can't imagine what it's like as a parent to receive it. But shout out to those drawings that those little kids make for you.
Josh Jacobs
They're.
Will Compton
They're incredible.
Garrett Hagus
Wholesome. Awesome.
Taylor Lewan
G, baby, you got anything?
Garrett Hagus
Mine's pretty simple. I went to Paschool in Mississippi this weekend and got absolutely fried on the water.
Josh Jacobs
So I just want to shout out aloe vera.
Taylor Lewan
Nice.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, there you go.
Taylor Lewan
Kiss method on that one.
Garrett Hagus
Send it my way.
Taylor Lewan
Beautiful shout outs all around my shout out. No free shout out is gonna go to the family barbecue. And the family is something special about everyone sitting around. Everyone's having a drink, talking, catching up with everybody. When I was up in Canada this weekend with Taylor's family, they like redid Easter and grandpa win. He does this thing every year where he does, like, little riddles and you have to solve all the riddles around the property in order to get your Easter egg basket. So we are having a good time doing that. Ms. Tana, Taylor's mom, she's out there grilling burgers. People are sitting up, lined up like it was like a little potluck situation. But something about having a seven and a four year old and being the parents or you kind of just sit in the chair and truly get to see like the village take place. Where it takes a village to raise a kid. I didn't do. I sat there, I hung out, I saw Win and Willow. Win was starting to come to me. Daddy, I need your help with something. Before she can get the sentence out, there was an aunt coming in. Let me help you out with that, sweetie. Shaboom. She's gone. She got intercepted and gonna win. I thought. I get it. I understand the family barbecue dynamic that is. It's wonderful. It's just a good time, great vibes. Everyone you can see, like everyone with her tripping at each other, getting after it. Little Nash, Quinn's kid was there, by the way. Top five cutest kid apart all time. This Nash kid, blonde hair, blue eyes, like just a. A, A cutie. A little cutie. So great. My shout out goes to family barbecues. That's what it is. Wholesome, wholesome.
Garrett Hagus
True Classic Gur of the month.
Taylor Lewan
True Classic Gun of the month. Let's talk about True Classic for a little bit. Boys. I'll tell you the pants I'm wearing right now, if you're not a tight pants guy, they make all kinds of different ones, but we got stretchy material. Look at this. You can run from the cops and those boys right there. You're 21. You had a kid rocks bar, you get a little scrum. Guess what, you're on there. Doing jiu jitsu with him. No problem. Got the shirt under this right here. Grabs the shoulders, grabs chest. Phenomenal. And True Classic is helping us out with our gunner of the month. For those of you who don't know what gunner of the month is, it is our employee of the month. We took a vote. Everybody votes. Will and I read the votes. And in this folder is the winner of April Gooner of the Month, Will Compton. Please do.
Garrett Hagus
The votes are in.
Taylor Lewan
Also a True Classic. Look good, play good. Oh, came out wrong. Yeah, yeah. It's all. It's all good.
Garrett Hagus
Gary probably saw our Gooner of the month. This for the month of April, presented by True Classic.
Taylor Lewan
Should we say, like this was a landslide victory?
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. This is pretty heavy on this month.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
But none other than JP Hovey. Speed.
Will Compton
Thank you, everybody who voted for me. Thank you to the committee. Thank you to the whatever you guys would be in this situation. But it's a lot like Luke Keakley in his two interception game without the DB Chipping the. The wide receiver. It never would have happened without Garrett making it happen on spring tour, making sure we don't have to worry about anything logistically. Jack promoting the vlog clips, Mitch taking care of business on the podcast. I wouldn't be able to do my thing. So shout out to the team. Shout out to True Classic. I actually placed an order last night with another gift card Ryan gave us. So now I'm about to give me some more True Classic in summer. Be on alert because if I'm in that True Classic, we about to be outside.
Taylor Lewan
Let's go. Congrats, J.P.
Garrett Hagus
Fantastic work.
Taylor Lewan
Our podcast today is Josh Jacobs. This guy comes in. His story is incredible. From living in. Living in a vehicle with several brothers to making it to Alabama. His. His quote. He grew up in Oklahoma. Like this guy. He seems like he's got it all dialed in. Talks about being at the Raiders, talks about how that kind of relationship, the way it cracked and fell apart. The fallout was big, detailed. He doesn't say names. I think I have an understanding who the names are. Yeah, but he talks about fans.
Garrett Hagus
Probably will, too.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, how he was treated in that situation. But the dude has been. He's been crushing since he entered the league. And talking about Alabama. G, have you listened to the pot at all? I have not, buddy. I'm excited the way he talks about Alabama. You're going to be stoked on it. It is, buddy. Me just talking about the glory days of Alabama. That's when he was there for sure. But. So I hope everybody enjoys it. It's a phenomenal time. Big hugs, tiny kisses. Please subscribe Unsubscribe resubscribe We will see you guys next time we interrupt this.
Garrett Hagus

Josh Jacobs
Not really. Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
So I appreciate the. The favor.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. Not told him I've been after you for years. That's why I told him. I said. I said, I gotta do it because I already told him I was gonna do it.
Garrett Hagus
I saw you in New Orleans. Hey, gotta get you on busing.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Trying to follow up with a couple texts. You know, he changes his number quite a bit. I'm thinking, hey, do I have the up to date one right now?
Taylor Lewan
And then when you send a text and it was blue, then it goes to green. You're like, lost them in the last couple ones.
Garrett Hagus
They were. They stayed blue. So I'm like, ah, like, dude, do I hit him up? Do I hit him up again?
Taylor Lewan
You can only send the eyes so many times before. You're like, I'm really just stalking this human.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. And I know he's probably grinning or something.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Just like, how many times he's like.
Taylor Lewan
This man's really persistent. He's moving forward.
Josh Jacobs
Hey, you think that's bad? You should see the coaches in this. This offseason trying to hit you up.
Garrett Hagus
Which one tries to hit you up the most?
Josh Jacobs
All of them.
Taylor Lewan
What's going on?
Garrett Hagus
Who tries to hit you up first? And then who does that one think, okay, he can probably get to him.
Josh Jacobs
See, it start off. I feel like it start off with, like, you know, the interns and things like that. Then your position coach. Then next thing you know, it's the head coach, office coordinator. I'm like, y'all. Y'all saying the Same thing. Like, what are we gonna try to.
Garrett Hagus
Get you to do now?
Taylor Lewan
They're just checking in and be like, hey, man, how's off season going?
Josh Jacobs
Literally, like, all of that. I'm like, bro, I don't. Bro, I don't even answer my phone. Like, I get off social media, everything in off season. So I'm like, y'all gonna be talking to yourself, like, for real. And they have been. And they was nervous. They was like, we didn't think you was pulling up. I'm like, I'm gonna slide. If I tell you I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it.
Garrett Hagus
Where do you spend your off seasons?
Josh Jacobs
It depends, man. Like, either I'm at home in Oklahoma, or. I mean, I got a house in Florida, too, so I'll be kind of back and forth.
Garrett Hagus
So you go back to Oklahoma a lot?
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. Smart family yet, bro, your story.
Garrett Hagus
Incredible story, is insane. Like, there's been specials on it. There's been features and everything else, but I would love to dive into you guys. Like, you just being homeless, young. Like, how does a dad with five kids managed to protect you guys? And what is he quoted saying? Like, protect your guys, destiny. Like, dive into that for us, because that is. That's a hell of a journey, bro.
Josh Jacobs
It was. Honestly, bro, like, in that moment, at that time, I didn't really fully understand, like, what I was going through because I was with my family, and, like, I was like, dang, we doing a lot of moving. But it was, like, that was normal for us, you know what I'm saying? So, like, I didn't really have the time to, like, process it. Like, even throughout all of that, I still had fun. You know, I'm with all my siblings.
Garrett Hagus
How old are you in this when this part of the. Of your life is happening?
Josh Jacobs
So it was right after my parents divorced, so it was probably, like. I was probably in, like, fourth grade. So for, like, fourth grade until fourth grade, until, like, sixth grade, and then, like, eighth grade after eighth grade, like a year or so after that. And then we was kind of, like, stable, so it was like, pockets. You know what I'm saying?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, it was like sixth grade to eighth grade and then a small break in eighth grade. And then.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, then we stayed at a house. Then we stayed at a house for, like, a year and a half, two years, and then, like, a little pocket again. So. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
And the pocket was essentially living out of your dad's suburban.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. Or like, motels, like, hotels, like, all of that. Anywhere. We used to always Try to go to somewhere where it had the free breakfast in the morning.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. Cereal. Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
Get some little cereal.
Taylor Lewan
Your pockets and everything.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. For real.
Taylor Lewan
I mean, obviously, when you sit back now, it's. It's a crazy story, but you're talking about, like, at that point, you weren't even. You didn't even realize what was going on.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
What? Like, you're just busy having fun being a kid. Like, experience, like, in the moment, not looking back on it now in a moment.
Josh Jacobs
I would say it was different because I used to be upset. Like, having, you know, one pair of shoes, you know, you're gonna have to make work for the whole year. Or, like, maybe two if you. If you. You know what I'm saying? Lucky. And, like, having to, like, you know, two or three pairs, like, uniforms and having to wash them each day, whether it's in the sink or pulling over and, like, you know, going to a little pump side of the side of the road, like, pumping water, like, having to heat up water. All of these types of things. It was just. It was what I was used to. I never really. I never really thought it was something different or unusual until really, I got to college. And when I got to college, it was like the first time I had a bed, you know? So, like, I'm like, damn. Like, I used to sleep on the floor. I used to make a pallet on the floor for, like, the first, like, month and a half. And my roommate, Irv Smith, he used to ask me, like, bro, like, what's going on? Like, so. And when we. That was my first time, like, really processing it. You know what I'm saying? Like, really, like, sitting down and being like, okay, this is not normal. Like, what I've experienced, what I've gone through is not normal. Like, and then it got to the point where, like, football was always, like, an outlet for me. And at Alabama, they. It got to a point where they was like, man, you might want to talk to somebody. Like, you might want to, you know, either get counseling or open up to somebody you feel like you trust about what you've been through to be able to, like. Cause I never wanted to tell the story. I never. It was never. It was a story that was never gonna be told. Cause I felt embarrassed by the story. You know what I'm saying? Like, so I never want. Like, even when I went to school, people never knew. Like, only people that knew was my friends. Cause they'd come over and be like, where we at? Right? You know what I'm saying? But like, that was really it. So, like, for me, we had a media guy at the time, his name was also Josh at Alabama, and he was like, man, he the one that convinced me to do it. And he was just basically telling me. He was like, man, like, you don't understand how many people, like, have the same story going on or a similar story, and you don't know how, like, your impact can affect and change somebody life. And that's when I was like, you know what? Like, you. Right? And then that's where, like, I finally told the story. Like, I never talked about it. I'll tell people all the time that talking about it then was, like, the first real time I ever talked about it. And I didn't know how therapeutic it really was for me to finally process it. So it was smooth.
Garrett Hagus
What was having Josh push you to do it? Were you somebody who was very quiet and they were trying to.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, so I was quiet. I was quiet, but I was like. I was quiet. But I got in trouble a lot, you know what I'm saying?
Garrett Hagus
Like, so you're like, a troublemaker, but nobody could really.
Josh Jacobs
No, not like a troublemaker. Like, I did everything I was supposed to do when it comes to, like, schooling and stuff, but I used to just do dumb shit, like, all the time. You know what I'm saying? I got in trouble for riding my dirt bike on a quad. Like, just dumb shit. Having paintball wars in the dorm. You know what I'm saying?
Taylor Lewan
Structure growing up.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. Literally, like, just doing dumb stuff. You know what I'm saying? So, like, it got to the point where, like, I had a son. I had my son in high school. My. My. Literally, National Signing Day, February 3rd, my senior year. So, like, when I got to my junior year, and that's when I finally told the story, like, my junior year. When it got to my junior year, I was kind of getting to the point where I'm like, shit is starting to get real. Like, I'm like, all right, what am I doing? Like, I'm gonna have to, you know, either go to school and be. And be good at this, get a degree and go work, or, like, I need to, you know, take this football stuff kind of serious and figure it out. And so, like, as I got to that point where I used to class, like, I classed with Saban a couple times because I just felt, like the pressure, you know, the outside pressure was starting to, like, all right, you run out of time. And then at the same time, I'm like, okay, I'm doing Everything right from the class standpoint to, you know, workouts. I'm not missing no workouts. I'm like, damn, I'm not playing.
Will Compton
For real.
Josh Jacobs
Like, I'm like, what's going on? And then, like, I finally just, like, spazzed on saving one game. Like, like, yeah, it was one of them. Like, you know, how.
Garrett Hagus
Which game was it?
Josh Jacobs
I remember it. It was Ole Miss my junior year. Ole Miss. I think it was the third game of the season. Third or fourth game of the season. I had scored, and Henry Rugg's little brother played linebacker. And, like, I dragged him. I'm like, he holding on to me, like, six yards at the end zone, still grabbing me. I'm like, so we had some words. They threw the flag. So I'm like, okay, I already know what's coming. It's Saban. You know what I'm saying? I already know what's coming. So I'm like, all right. Saban cuts me out. I'm like, all right. I eat it. Like, everybody. Especially when you're in the wrong, you like, all right, whatever. But then, like, a couple drives go back, and he came back to, like, cuss me out again, and I must have got up, and I'm like, yeah, we had some words. And then after that, like, we got to halftime, and I was really like, this is actually the first time I'm actually fully telling this story. We got to halftime, and I was like, I took my pass off. I'm like, I'm done. Like, I'm finna go transfer. Like, Oregon talk. I've been, you know, I'm talking to Oregon. I'm talking Oklahoma. Like, I'm about to, like. You know what I'm saying? Like, figure it out. I'm like, it's my junior year. I'm running out of time. But then I talked to Coach Locks. You know, he the head coach of Maryland now, and he was just basically telling me. He's like, man, like, you don't understand that this. Look, if you was to quit on your team right now and leave, like, the. Look, even if you write, it's not gonna look good. So, like, I was like, you know what? Like, you right. I had to start processing. And I ain't gonna lie. I cried, bro. Like, I sat down and cried. Cause I'm like, bro, what more do y'all want me to do? You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm doing everything right, and y'all still.
Garrett Hagus
This might be our Buffalo Wild Wings interrupting an incredible story right now.
Taylor Lewan
I Need to hear the end of the story.
Garrett Hagus
He has no clue. Josh Jacobs just sitting in the garage talking about Ole Miss, Alabama halftime.
Taylor Lewan
Pads are off.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, my God.
Garrett Hagus
All right. So you're sitting there, and it's weighing on you so much, you start having tears because something that you're carrying.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, it's at halftime.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. So, yeah, I started. It was at halftime. I started, like, you know, like, literally, like, I'm so frustrated at the point. I'm like, I'm mad. I want to fight honestly. And, like. And that's the crazy thing is that's the first time they ever seen that side of me. You know what I'm saying? So, like, they always, like, we used to him just being quiet. Like, he don't ever say nothing. Like, you feel me? So, like, I was, like, amped up, and so he told me the story. Like, okay, come back. It's a bad look. Whatever. I'm like, you know what? You right. So we come back out halftime. I'm returning punts. They kicked the ball to me. I returned, like, 60, 70 yards, and I didn't even celebrate. I just stared at saving the whole time, walking to the sideline. Just stared him down the whole time. And then we had a meeting on Monday, and we basically, like, sat down. He was like, man, what's going on? Like, we started talking. I'm like, man, like, you say that you take care of guys, that you feel like, work hard and don't get in trouble and do all these things. I'm like, what more do you want me to do to be able to play? I'm scoring. Like, when I touch the ball, I'm like, it ain't like I'm playing bad. You know what I'm saying? It's just, like, I'm not getting too many opportunities. So I'm like, what do you want me to do? If it's not enough room for me, let me know. Let me move around, like, you know what I'm saying? Type deal. And this was before, you know, you couldn't go play. I would have had to sit, you know, sit out of here like that.
Taylor Lewan
So I'm like, did you red shirt?
Josh Jacobs
Nah.
Taylor Lewan
Okay, so you would have. You would have been able to. Red shirt.
Josh Jacobs
I wouldn't have been able to red shirt. So, like, I'm like, man, like, he was like, you know what? Like, that conversation changed everything. Everything. Like, me and him, like, we became, like, kind of, like, tight after that. Because one thing about Saban that I've learned in being around him Is he respects people that talk back to him and not. What I mean, like, not be disrespectful, but, like, have the balls enough to say something back to him. You know what I'm saying? Like, a lot of people walk on eggshells around him, whether they playing for him or they working for him. They just scared of him. You know what I'm saying? So, like, anybody that got, like, a little bit of he, like, you know what I'm saying? So after that, I just started playing. I started making plays. Start making plays, and then the rest is history.
Garrett Hagus
I mean, but that second year, too, like, didn't you break your ankle?
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. So my second year, I played the whole season. So I did it like it was Mississippi State or some. I think it was Mississippi State. I had fractured my ankle. I had, like, a peroneal tendon, like, retinacular surgery. So, you know, normally that surgery, like, is like seven months. So after the. Literally two days after the championship game, I went and had surgery. So, like, that whole off season, I was, like, training, like, trying to get back. Like, the first couple games, even my junior, my first couple games was kind of like, you know, like, you know how you feel when you got an injury? It's like. It's like you there, but you not where you was. You know what I'm saying? It takes a little bit of nursing that side.
Taylor Lewan
Like, you don't like, the cut feel.
Josh Jacobs
A little off, like, you know, things like that. So, like, I finally got back to the swing, and I was like, yeah, I'm ready, Like, and then it was also a blessing in disguise for me because I put on weight because I came into college. 185, bro.
Garrett Hagus
You were. You were young, bro. Yeah, you look like a kid. Like, I was watching when you was doing the hat, putting on the Alabama hat. And how. How much did you weigh?
Josh Jacobs
180. 185.
Garrett Hagus
I mean, he looked like a kid, bro. It was nuts. Cause that was like your. Yeah, yeah, we can get into that, too, but go on.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, so I put. I ended up putting on £30. Cause, you know when you can't really walk, all you could do is lift. And, like, so that was, like, one, like, a blessing in disguise for me, but, man, the rest was history, man. Like, they started scheming up plays for me. I started making plays. I'm like, okay. Then I started. And what was crazy was the coaches, towards the end of the season, the coaches was like, yeah, you need to leave. I'm like, what you mean? I need to leave. I'm not even a starter. Like, I haven't even started. Like, what you mean leave? Like they like, go to the draft. I'm like, huh? So like, the coaches really convinced me to even go. I wasn't even going to come out.
Garrett Hagus
So after your third year, you weren't even going to come out?
Josh Jacobs
I wasn't even going to come out. I didn't even think I was the.
Taylor Lewan
Same year that you lost the same year. And at the end of the year, the coaches come to me and be like, you need to leave our program so our program gets worse so you can make money.
Josh Jacobs
But I'm telling you, the thing about the coaches, the thing about the coaches is, is a lot of the coaches are former players. One thing about Saban is he always hires former players. So, like, it don't matter. He'll figure out a job for you. Like, you know what I'm saying? He's, he's, he's that type of dude. But so like, they telling me and I'm like, I'm like, how? And then so I'm getting other, you know, sources, people telling me I'm like, first round. Like, they say, you the first back. I'm like, it's a guy here, Damien Harris, that's like 300, 400 yards away from breaking the record at Alabama. I'm like, what you mean I'm gonna go a first round before him? Like, I'm not, you know, really comprehending it, but they convinced me. And then I'm like, wow. Like, everything else took care of itself for real.
Taylor Lewan
What was the reasoning behind you being taken over Damien Harris, when he's 3, 300, 400 yards away? Like, was it your like, catching ability? Like more of an all around back in their mind? Like, because that, that is wild if you're essentially the number two.
Josh Jacobs
And I wasn't even the number two. I was like two slash three. Because, you know, Najee was there too. So, like, it always gives me away.
Taylor Lewan
How stacked Alabama is.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, bro. So, like, that was the thing. Like, I was like, but, you know.
Taylor Lewan
I'm not really playing. I'm thinking I probably know why. That's crazy.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. And that's the thing. So when I asked coach, like when I, I remember coming in, Kirby Wilson was my running back coach. I remember asking him like that same question. He was like, you want to know why you the number one back? He said, you played every special teams. Nobody in this building can say anything bad about you. They say you never late for nothing. We At Bama, literally almost every practice, every other practice is scouts watching us at practice. So like the scouts, you know, they seeing me the whole year. Obviously I'm not like going crazy stat wise, but like yards per carry, all of that is, you know, up there. Catching out the backfield is what main thing that I did, you know, in college. So, like, I think that had played a role into it, but I really don't know, bro. Like, to this day I'm like, I don't want to ask him, like, how did he feel about it, but I'll be thinking about it. I'm like. Cause that's like, if I was the guy in the. The third guy went over, I'd be like, I will feel sick. Yeah, I would be sick. Like, for real. So I. I don't know. I mean, all I can say is, God, for real.
Taylor Lewan
So they. They convince you to leave at the end of the season, what is your process? Like, how quickly are now you now looking for an agent? Because if it's not on your radar at all, how quick, like, who did you talk to about like representation? Where do I go train? There's img, there's exos, there's all these places you can go. Like, how fast did you have to make those decisions?
Josh Jacobs
Agents. Yeah, so it was fast. So right after they used to have at Bama, they got a, like, I don't know, it's a certain time period where they got a day where agents can come meet you and like meet all the guys that's like draft eligible and you sit down like with a group of guys or whatever and you know, saving. He's under like CAA and all them. So obviously they're in there and all them other people are in there. But I had a guy that I was close to, which was Ryan, big Ryan, and he had Chad, my agent, sitting over there, so.
Taylor Lewan
Chad, brother.
Josh Jacobs
So the moment I met Chad, I was like, it's something about this dude, you know what I'm saying? I'm like. I'm like, I don't know. And then the first time I'm actually kicked it with him. We actually went to Earl's game in Baltimore and we got in like a little scuffle after the game. And the way he handled the scuff, I was like, this is my guy. That's what I knew. I knew. I was like, this is my guy. And we've been locked in ever since.
Garrett Hagus
When you're at Bama and you're not ever the feature back, and I know how competitive you are. How was your mentality throughout your career at Alabama when you're not like, the feature guy? Because when you think of Alabama, you're right. When you came out, it's like, oh, who's the Josh Jacobs kid? Because you think of Trent Richardson. You got Derrick Henry. But how was that mentality like for you as a player at Alabama when you. I know how competitive you are.
Josh Jacobs
The only reason why I went to Bama, because I wanted to prove to myself that I was as good as I thought I was. That was literally the only reason why I went, bro.
Taylor Lewan
That is like. That's an amazing answer.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. Like, I literally felt like. Cause all my life, I've been the underdog. All my life I had 500 yards, 500 something yards in a game in high school and still didn't have no offers. Didn't you?
Garrett Hagus
Like, the state and rushing yards, like.
Josh Jacobs
Two years in a row? My. My junior year, I had 1200 yards in four games. Like, I'm like. And didn't.
Garrett Hagus
Didn't have one off.
Josh Jacobs
Didn't have none.
Garrett Hagus
Because you didn't get what, Bam. Until what, December?
Josh Jacobs
I didn't get him until basketball season.
Taylor Lewan
So after his senior year, senior year, Alabama calls. Which is crazy because Alabama, the Texas, the uscs.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Usually their classes are done. Okay, Oklahoma, Usually their classes are done, like, two years in advance.
Josh Jacobs
And see, that's what's crazy. So when they came, so I started getting. My first offer was like, New Mexico State.
Taylor Lewan
Hell, yeah.
Josh Jacobs
And I'm like, okay. I'm like, I'm cool with that. Because you gotta think, like, for me, the NFL was never a dream for me because it was never a reality. I've never seen nobody, you know, do it or even go far for real. So, like, for me, I was like, if I get to school, that's all I'm trying to do. Like, I'm trying to get to school. I went to school. I majored in business management, pre law. Like, I'm like, I'm gonna take. I'm gonna go get a real degree, you know, like, try to go to work. You know what I'm saying? That's what I was trying to set myself up, make some connections, go to work. And so when I. It became, like, more and more serious. I'm like, I started thinking more about that, you know, But I didn't understand it. Like, Bama came, Bama ended up coming. And then Oklahoma came. And then, like, a lot of other schools came. I remember the weirdest school I had was like, tcu. I ended up getting into it with the. Well, my dad got into it with the recruiter that was recruiting us because they wanted me to play db. I also played db. So I played corner and safety. And like, I was. I was decent at it. I was decent at it. I was also a lot faster than I was decent.
Taylor Lewan
Then you said all state decent.
Josh Jacobs
I had put like this when I was in safety. I had four picks in the first four games and never got the ball through my side again. Yeah, for real.
Garrett Hagus
Jacob's Island.
Josh Jacobs
Like, I was like, I was good.
Taylor Lewan
460 pound white kids in Oklahoma at this time.
Garrett Hagus
Nah.
Josh Jacobs
But that's why I told him. But it was. That was funny because the dude wanted me to play db. And I'm like, I do not see myself hitting these dudes on this level because I'm one of them dudes. I wasn't wrapping up anyways. I was just booming everybody any chance I could. But Alabama came during basketball season and actually he came Coach Burton Burns. Actually, he was just with my little brother last week. My little brother goes to uab. But he was just. He was like, man, I'm out here for somebody else. He said, I'm not even here for you. He said, some guy down the road actually mentioned your name. And so that's the reason why I'm here. So he was like, I'm only gonna stay for like five to 10 minutes. He watched me at basketball practice. So, you know, when I see him come in, he got all the rings on. He come in with Alabama. I'm like, oh, yeah. So, you know, I'm trying hard. I go dunk the ball. I'm like, I'm looking over every time. You know what I'm saying? I'm like, I'm trying hard. You feel me? So then he ended up leaving and he came back like 10 minutes later. He ended up staying for two hours. Me and him just sat down, we was talking for two hours and he was like, man. He said, I'm be honest with you. Like, we're really done with our recruiting. He said, but one guy that, like, we trying to recruit, we're still waiting to see if he can even make it. Because his grades, like academics, he was struggling to get in. So like, literally, like the day that I went to sign, that's when I found out that I could even go to Alabama. Cause they called me right before and was like, yeah, he didn't make it.
Garrett Hagus
What was your game plan if Alabama doesn't call?
Josh Jacobs
I was gonna go to Mizzou. Drew Locke showed me. And see, that's a crazy thing.
Garrett Hagus
Bama just calls on signing. They're like, hey, I was gonna go.
Taylor Lewan
To Mizzou for real. There's some Mizzou fan on suicide watch in his garage right now.
Garrett Hagus
The coaching staff's in the war room. Like, hey, he's gonna commit. He's gonna come.
Josh Jacobs
What happened?
Taylor Lewan
Alabama?
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
Because I had a visit. Drew Lock showed me around, and I'm like. I'm like, I don't know. This is different. It was, you know, different than anything I've ever seen. I'm like, they got landscaping out here. I've never seen. Landscape.
Garrett Hagus
Shout out. Columbia, Missouri, landscaping.
Josh Jacobs
I'm like, man, this is wild.
Garrett Hagus
Good business school. Great business school. Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
You know, and then. And then Bama was like. So I took a partial. So that was my only two visits with Mizzou and Bama, but I took a partial. But I went to Bama, and I was like. First thing I seen was a group of girls. I was like, yeah. I was like, yeah, I think this is gonna be for me. And then Jalen Hurts was actually the one that showed me around because he was early enrollee. So, like, he had saw me around. I was like, okay, like, I think this is the spot to be, dude.
Taylor Lewan
What was Jalen Hurts mentality when you were around him? Is it what you see now, or was he a little. A little more young and immature?
Josh Jacobs
Bro, he's always been that way, bro.
Taylor Lewan
No way.
Josh Jacobs
When he had dread, he had dreads. So when I came in, he had dreads. And he's always been like that, bro. He's funnier and goofier than people think. Like, he don't act like in the media, like, but in the locker room, like, he is, like, he's. He's a guy, you know what I'm saying? But he's always being like, just like that.
Taylor Lewan
Constantly just putting out amazing quotes. Saving, focus.
Josh Jacobs
Saving. He got them quotes from Saving.
Taylor Lewan
Okay, that sucks, dude. You just get out him. No, I mean, Saban does have crazy.
Josh Jacobs
He got some of his own things. So you gotta also think that his dad was a coach. So you can think he was. Been being trained this way his whole life, you know? But saving, he's the first that I've ever seen, like, have a quote for everything in life, literally. And I have it all throughout the building. Like, he got a cent for, like, literally everything. I'm not even playing. But Saban, he's just one of them dudes that he's so different. The way that he thinks, the way that he prepares, the way that he like goes about his business on a day to day basis. Every. I've never seen somebody in my life where everything is so structured and calculated. Like, he, like, if I eat at 3:00, he eating at 3:00 every day. And if he eat at 3:02, somebody getting cussed out. Like, it was like literally like somebody different, bro. Like, he was just different, bro. But that's what made me understand, like, why he's so special and why he is who he is. Because he does things that nobody else would do. For real.
Taylor Lewan
When you go from having 1200 yards in four games, all these crazy things, you end up going to Alabama. Your first time walking in that locker room. And Alabama at this point is like, there's first rounders everywhere.
Garrett Hagus
Grown men.
Taylor Lewan
Grown men.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Like, were you like, maybe this is not for. At any point, were you like, maybe this is not for me.
Josh Jacobs
The only time that I was like, maybe this is not for me is when we was working out. Cause I'm like, what the is this? I'm like, did I come to run track?
Taylor Lewan
What the fuck is this?
Josh Jacobs
I'm like, did I come to run track or did I come to play football? Like, what, was they trying to kill.
Taylor Lewan
You like that, bro?
Josh Jacobs
110S. We had a minimum of 17 110s every time we ran them. We ran them once every week.
Garrett Hagus
Seventeen 110s every week, every minimum.
Josh Jacobs
That's if everybody make their time.
Taylor Lewan
What was the speed group time?
Josh Jacobs
What it was like? I think it was either it was 13, it was 13, 14, 15 skills in 13, mid skills at 14.
Taylor Lewan
That's insanely fast, bro.
Josh Jacobs
I'm telling you, bro, you have to run 80% of your speed to make it on time. I swear. Oh, everything we had people passing out, everything throwing up like, so in the.
Taylor Lewan
Weight room, you were like, okay, this is fine, I can lift away.
Josh Jacobs
They had to teach me how to wait, how to live. I never lived in college, I mean, high school.
Taylor Lewan
So you were as green as they came, bro.
Josh Jacobs
You still don't know how to power clean to this day. Like, I. I cannot do it, like, I swear.
Taylor Lewan
So, like, that is wild.
Garrett Hagus
That's how I put on the 30 quick. Literally, literally. I'm like, man, so y'all get all.
Josh Jacobs
This food and that's the best part. The food. Eating three, four times a day, from eating one meal a day to eating three or four or full course meals a day is different. Like Bama, bro. You. We used to go in there, we have king crab this big, like, breaking.
Taylor Lewan
All the NCAA violations.
Josh Jacobs
Steak. We have steak. You get. You damn near order a steak every day.
Garrett Hagus
And I know you, too. You probably bring it home to go boxes.
Josh Jacobs
Yes, and you got to go boxes. Everything else, bro, I'm telling you, it was. Eating this stuff was good. But my mentality coming in, though, like, I was small and I didn't know nobody, so obviously it was like. It was like a culture shock for me. So I was just quiet. But I was always used to just work. So, like, after, like, you know, you get over there, like, weeks, two weeks, you soar from, like, you know, doing that type of stuff, you kind of get acclimated. And then I remember, you know, in the summers, the coaches can't coach you, right? So, like, we have, like, individual. Like, not individual, but team ran like, seven on sevens and shit. Like that.
Taylor Lewan
Team ran seven of sevens with 17 gas out there.
Josh Jacobs
Is that exactly, you know, every. So they got a balconies that overlooks the. The field. They used to just sit in the balconies and watch us, basically. But, like, I remember, like, everybody used to come up to me was like, who is this little dude with the fro? Cause I came in, I had a fro. They like, who was the little dude from a fro? They used to call me the little boy from across the street. They was like, who is this dude? They was like, nobody's heard of you. Like, when I came in, there was like, bro, none of us know who you are. But, like, I just consistently kept making plays. Like, consistently. Like, then we had a camp practice. I'm with the twos, so I'm going against the ones. So, like, I'm like, damn. Like, we scrimmage and I'm going against the ones. I'm the only person to score out of running backs the whole day. So they was like, whoever this little dude is, we might, like, he might be nice. And then it got to the point where other players, the veteran players, like Reuben Foster, Daron Payne started coming up to me was like, bro, you gonna be good. Like, you gonna be special. Like, and then when I start having all the vets, like, I feel like believing me, that's when I was like, okay, I could do this for real, bro.
Garrett Hagus
Reuben Foster was a menace, monster on the field.
Taylor Lewan
That whole entire roster was just insane, bro.
Josh Jacobs
The whole defense my freshman year got drafted or played in the league at some point. Like, you gotta think Marlin, Eddie Jackson, Ruben, Rashad, Evans, you got Duron Payne, you got. You got all of these, like, bro, we was. It was a deep, Like, Marlon Humphrey, Levi Wallace on the other side. I'm like, yeah, that's what really I feel like, prepared me. Cause going against them type of. That type of caliber, like, either you gonna figure it out or you gonna be like, this is not for me.
Garrett Hagus
How much did that, like, structure around, like, Saban's culture help you in the NFL? Cause as you know, it's way different when you get to the NFL.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. So I'm gonna tell you the main, main, main reason why I signed with Alabama. When I went to Mizzou and they found out that I was only gonna stay for a partial of the time to take half of the time to go. Cause it was because I was so late, you know, to be able to go. To go there. They made a whole PowerPoint of how Bama is this and how I wasn't gonna play there. Like, how my chances of playing there was very slim. And then when I went to Bama and I talked to Saban, we never even talked about football. He just talked to me. He was like, this is how I can help you become a better man. This is how I can grow your relationships and, you know, grow you as a man. And that's what, like, I was like, okay, that sold me. Like, that was enough for me. Cause like I said at that time, I'm not really too much thinking about football because I'm like, that's not really a real reality for me. So I'm like, I want to be good. I want to play. But, like, I want to go to school. Like, I want to. You feel me, Figure it out. So when he did that, I was like, yeah, like, he gonna be the person that really teach me and, like, help me grow up and develop me and things like that. And that's why I ended up choosing him.
Garrett Hagus
So Bama was telling you how you. Your chances were minimal, or that was Missouri.
Josh Jacobs
No, Missouri was.
Garrett Hagus
It was all about football.
Josh Jacobs
It wasn't about football until they found out that I was going to take half of the other, you know, visit to see.
Garrett Hagus
Got you. Got you.
Josh Jacobs
So then they, like, when they started talking about one thing about Bama that.
Garrett Hagus
I had, okay, they showed a PowerPoint of you not playing your chances of playing at Alabama.
Josh Jacobs
All right, Exactly. And that's the thing. One thing I say, once I got that Alabama recognition, every school that came and talked to me always brought them up. So I was like, y'all just making me Want to be play there even more. Like, y'all keep speaking on them. They must be the top dog, like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I'm like, all right. Like, so that's kind of how I played out.
Garrett Hagus
You kind of have to recruit like that. If it's Alabama.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. But also it's like, damn, Alabama's on them competitive cats. You want the cats that are like, yeah, I'm going to beat anybody anytime. Like, the almost a delusional mindset, essentially what you had, right? To make it in the NFL and make it Alabama, you have to have a delusional mindset. So if you want those guys, why would you play into Alabama's favor that way?
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Because you kind of just want you literally, if I'm Missouri, I'm just stroking you the whole time, literally, and telling.
Josh Jacobs
Me what you can do for me.
Taylor Lewan
Right?
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
We got all this. We got a great business.
Josh Jacobs
Come on, man.
Taylor Lewan
But football is going to work out for you. You're going to play right away. We're going to get you going.
Josh Jacobs
It was even talking about, let me hoop. Yeah. I was like, man, I was like, all right.
Taylor Lewan
So was Oklahoma ever in the mix for you?
Josh Jacobs
No.
Taylor Lewan
11.
Garrett Hagus
I know. Like, you don't like Oklahoma or. No, See the way he answered? You got a chip on your shoulder that they didn't?
Josh Jacobs
Nah. Because it's like, bro, I used to have Mike Stoops and them come to my games when I was in Little League, like when I was fifth, sixth grade, I used to see them in the stands, you feel me? So I'm like, it's not like y'all didn't know who I was. I've been like, I've been that in football. You feel me? So I'm like, when they got to college, I'm like, I gotta. Tulsa University is 15 minutes from my house. Didn't even get an offer from them. You feel me? So, like, when you came after these schools, I felt disrespected. Y'all closer to me. Oklahoma is an hour, hour and some change away. Oklahoma State is 45 minutes away. You feel me? So I'm like, I don't got offers from y'all. Like, I'm like, nah, I'm not staying.
Garrett Hagus
Felt some type of way.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, I felt some type of way for sure. That's why when we played them, I was on they ass. But funny story about that is when I went to the draft, Bob Stooks was the first one to come up to me when we was in the Meeting room. And he was just like, man, I love your game. He was with Lincoln Riley, he was like, I love your game. He's like, man, he was like, you changed my whole perspective on looking that way, bro. I'm telling you. After I got recruited, bro, I had coaches telling me, you know, we are committed to never missing a diamond in the rough again. After I got community, after I committed and went to university, the next two to three classes, bro, we had the more people leaving out of Oklahoma than we ever had, like, the last decade. You feel me? So, like, it played out. It worked out how it was supposed to.
Garrett Hagus
That was probably nice to hear.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, it was. I was like. I was like. I needed that for sure.
Garrett Hagus
What was it like going from Saban to Coach Gruden?
Josh Jacobs
Complete, different, complete opposites. You know? Gru, I love Gruff. Love grew. He is so, like, charismatic. And so, like. Like, everything he does, he just does it with energy. We be in the meetings and, like, he's one of them coaches where we in meetings and you can know somebody messed up and you'd be like, bro, get on his ass. He messed up. And he, like, he gonna praise you when he gonna coach you, he not gonna really too much get on you, like, in that sense, you know? And that was the thing that I used to like as a young guy coming in, you know, you nervous. You around all these vets and things like that. And you, like, he gave me, you know what I'm saying? Grace. And I love playing for him, man. Like, he's. To me, he's a player's coach. He go out his way to, you know, help guys all the time, whether it was on the field or off the field. And it was like. It was. It was fun for me, man, I love gru. To this day, I still love gru.
Taylor Lewan
Do you?
Garrett Hagus
Felt like it was the same for you, like, going from college to the NFL. Like, I've told the story before with Raheem Morris, where I, like, miss a tackle. I came on the sideline thinking, like, Coach Pollini in Nebraska, like you. You're getting cussed out. Like, you have this anxiety or fear in your mind to, like, not mess up on the field. And then when you did, you. You heard about it. But in the NFL, I felt like it was. You had, like, this grace to where they'd be, hey, if you're gonna miss, miss on the inside shoulder. And I'm thinking, oh, fuck, I missed attack on. They're kind of patting me like, hey, next time it happens, like, just if you miss. Miss on this side.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. We had completely different experiences.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
College, it was like, once I got to my senior year, like, I could do no wrong. Like, if I messed up, because you'd be, hey, you know what you did, right? And I was like, yeah, I did this wrong. Like, all right, you can fix that. When I got to the NFL, I was Ken Wizen Hunt's first draft pick. So I was like his little. Like his little darling, his little baby. He would baby me a bunch. But Bob Bostad, the offensive line coach, any misstep, footwork, anything, he was on my ass like. Like freshman in college.
Josh Jacobs
See, that's how my position coach was.
Taylor Lewan
He really.
Josh Jacobs
But we was cool, though. But that's the thing. Like, I feel like it's different when you respect somebody and you feel like they come into you at, like, you know, at a place of respect. But he was on me like, that, like, footwork. Cause I'm like. Even in college, obviously, you learned, you know, schemes and things like that. But, like, I'm like, what you mean you want me to do this footwork? I'm like, I'm used to this footwork. Like, I feel like I'm out of place doing the style that you want. And, like, that was something that I had to. That was probably the biggest learning curve that I had to do was just, like, get comfortable in the system that they wanted me to play, you know? But that was even, like, I remember one time I was going into it with him with Kirby, and he was like, man, I've coached this guy, this guy, and this guy. He got the calling. People, like, work done and all that. I'm like, okay. I'm like, it's a method. It's some method. And then literally when I feel like I trusted and believed in what he was telling me, like, I just started taking off, man.
Taylor Lewan
It's crazy how much I can respect how far respect goes with coaches, because there is always. I have, like, an issue with authority, where it's like, if coaches comes at me right away, I. I tend to step back a little bit. But once the respect is there, it's like, I'll basically die for you. Whatever you need me to do, I'm literally for you. When you walk into Oakland, I mean, obviously, the facilities are way different. They're about to move to Vegas.
Garrett Hagus
It's terrible.
Taylor Lewan
Compared to Bama, it's nuts.
Garrett Hagus
We've been.
Taylor Lewan
We've been to Bama. What was it like walking into a locker room with guys like, rich, incognito yeah, Max Crosby, Antonio Brown, and like, Derek Car, who's like this like, perfect little church choir boy. Like, was that just a massive culture shock for you? And you think to yourself, the taxes in California are ass. I just want to bring that up too.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, I mean, I defer my. I defer my signing bonus till we got to Vegas, but.
Taylor Lewan
Did you really?
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, for real.
Taylor Lewan
That's genius.
Josh Jacobs
But nah, man, they. When I came in, it was weird because, like, we had older vets, but we had vets that was like, older. That wasn't like, they're literally at the back end or their. So it was like, they was good, but not really. So, like. And then I feel like for me, people was on me harder because I was the first round pick. So, like, some people was like, you know, you gonna have to prove yourself. Like, I'm like, all right, whatever. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, all over again. Max looked like, what's the dude off of Harry Potter?
Garrett Hagus
Malfoy.
Josh Jacobs
Max looked like Malfoy. And the time, you know, hey, that's my dog. I love you, Max. Hey, no, but, but, man. So, like, I would say the best thing for me was our rookie class. Everybody came in. Max, you know, some of these other guys, that's not. That's not on the T or not in the league no more. We was all tight, you know, Keyshawn Nixon, we was all tight. And so, like, we used to always do stuff together. And I feel like that made it a lot easier my rookie year to get acclimated with everything. Because, you know, in the pros, people don't understand. Like, they think everybody's just friends. And like, in the pros, it's just like, this is not true.
Taylor Lewan
That was the craziest difference for me.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, like, college, you know, everybody is friends. Like, we all friends in college. Like, in the pros, it's not like, for some people, this is literally a job. And for a lot of people, they have families. So, like, you know, you leaving here, I'm like, man, I gotta go home and be a dad. Like, I can't go home and play video games with you. Like, you know what I'm saying things like that. So that was like a big, big difference for me too. But, man, that locker room then was definitely different. I remember my first, like, aww. Moment was, I remember we lost a game and I was in the locker mad. Cause like, you know, at Bama, I probably lost three, maybe four games in three years I was there. So I'm like, I'm used to winning, you feel me? So I'm in the locker room mad, and I remember the vets came up to me. Like, they laughing and shit. And I'm like, the fuck y'all laughing for? So I'll take. I get mad, you know what I'm saying? I'm like, what y'all got going on? They like, man, you gonna learn. Like, in this league, you gonna lose. Like, you not. You gotta get used to all this other kinds of stuff. But I was like, that, like, mentality. I remember, I was like, we are not gonna ever win like that if people don't take this a little more personal. It's one thing to not obviously be crying after the game, but, like, don't be sitting. Acting around like you happy that. You know what I'm saying, that we lost. Like, that was always a thing. But I was always one of them guys, too, that I felt like. I mean, you play with me. I always. Every day I'm trying to bust my ass. Every day I'm trying to. I'll be the. If not the hardest worker top three, you know, And I'm trying to, like, figure it out every day. So, like, when somebody did stuff like that, it just. It wasn't respected for me. And that's what caused me to preach.
Garrett Hagus
He's not lying. Josh would be visually pissed off after games. I remember the second stint, we came in, you know, the boys wanted to go on the logo with the Chiefs, and we got our ass whooped.
Josh Jacobs
Come on.
Garrett Hagus
And Josh is in the locker room after the game, fuming about, like, you know, whether guys are happy about it. But he was. Yeah, he legitimately gets pissed off anytime. Anytime that we lost. He'd be asking guys, he'd be talking to guys, like, maybe he pulled me aside, like, hey, you just got here. Like, what are you seeing right now? He'd be asking guys. He'd be like, polling everybody.
Josh Jacobs
See, the problem with me. Well, first, let me get to logo questions. I told them, do not do that. It's dumb. We are their stepbrothers. We are the little. We're the little brother at that point. We ain't beat them enough to deserve that, right? We ain't. We not even winning enough to deserve that, right? To go do that. You know what I'm saying? Like, it was dumb. I always the. I remember what I said exactly, because I didn't go do it. I was the only. I stayed back. I'm like, they not finna catch me on that logo and then we lose and it's everywhere.
Garrett Hagus
And then we lose.
Taylor Lewan
Will was in the middle.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, I was in the middle.
Garrett Hagus
I was in the middle. But who was. Remember, I told everybody it was a Yannick.
Josh Jacobs
Yannick. Yeah, he the one that started Yannick.
Taylor Lewan
Yannick was that mentality.
Garrett Hagus
But, hey, Yannick's a worker.
Josh Jacobs
He started it, though.
Taylor Lewan
He did.
Garrett Hagus
He's getting everybody up, and I'm thinking.
Josh Jacobs
Everybody should do it. But I told him, I was like. My exact words was, if y'all gonna do, y'all better stand on that. I'm like, we better win, literally. Because you can't do like that and.
Taylor Lewan
Not score that game.
Josh Jacobs
We got blue out.
Garrett Hagus
We got. We got blue out.
Josh Jacobs
We got blue out. I say y'all never. I, bro, I was hot in the locker room.
Garrett Hagus
Got her asses.
Josh Jacobs
I was hot. But no, that. Go back to his point.
Taylor Lewan
First came back, I'm thinking, oh, we're not good. Uniforms are good. We're not.
Josh Jacobs
Uniform's sick.
Taylor Lewan
Best uniforms in the game. They're awesome. But, hey, Yannick and Dockway, I have no idea why that dude has not, like, stuck with the team for a long time. Because his rookie year, I played him. The first time we played him was Thursday night in Nissan. And his attitude and mentality, like, he was talking to me like he was in the league for 10 years.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, he got the intentions.
Taylor Lewan
He's got. Yeah, he's got it. And then Patrick Omama, who will play with at Michigan, he was playing for Jacksonville, he came off. He's like, that kid works. He's going to be good. And he obviously was. He's a good football player.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
But he's just jumped around so much.
Josh Jacobs
You know, Sometimes I think people can get in their own way.
Taylor Lewan
There's no doubt about it, you know.
Josh Jacobs
And that be a lot of thing. And, like, sometimes you don't feel like, like, you know, with me, like, towards the end, like you say, I used to ask him, I'm like. When he came in, I'm like, what do you see? Cause I was fully committed to trying to make the team better. You know what I'm saying? I'm like. And I'm trying everything from talking to people I wouldn't even talk to, you know what I'm saying? From coaching more than I've ever coached to, like, being a leader and things like that, like, trying to lead by example, all of these things. And I'm like, bro, it ain't nothing. It don't feel like nothing is changing. You know what I'm saying? So I'm like, I used to ask when you got a guy in, I'm like, bro, what do you see? You've been on winning programs, you've been in. You know what I'm saying? You've been on good teams, like, what's the difference? And like you say, I used to. That game, I was so mad after that game, bro, I feel like, I feel like I cussed out so many people, like, bro, but I was always the guy that, like, I don't mind making people uncomfortable because I feel like one, if I'm doing everything right, I got that right. One, two. You should know that I care about you and love you enough and respect you enough to know that I'm not attacking you. I'm coming at you from a good place. And it's also a time and place for everything, don't get me wrong. But like, wanting to win and wanting to fix that organization, I was all in. So when I started to feel like the organization wasn't all in on the same things that I wanted, that's when I knew I had to leave.
Garrett Hagus
How hard was it to leave the Raiders, bro?
Josh Jacobs
I never wanted to, bro, bro, bro. I spent a lot of money on a house I built, Custom, fully custom built, and never stayed in. Like, so you gotta, you gotta know I was invest, I was investing there. I was doing franchises, like, you know what I'm saying? I'm in the community, I'm doing work in the community. Everything. Like, I'm thinking like, okay, like, this is where I'm gonna be. Like, I'm planning everything there, you know what I'm saying? But like, it gets to a certain point where you're not gonna keep disrespecting me. You only got so many times to be like, fuck you before I'm like, fuck you too. You feel me? Like, literally, like. And that's how I felt about it. Cause it's like, okay, don't get me wrong, I have a great relationship with Mark Davis. I love Mark Davis. It has nothing to do with Mark Davis. But like, you bringing in these coaches every other year, new coaches, and it's like, now these new coaches is telling me I done already had 3,000 yard seasons. You telling me I gotta prove myself. Like, oh, like I'm a rookie. You treating me like a rookie. You telling me I gotta play in the hall of Fame game, and then we start losing and then you feel like you need me, and then you play me, I'll play good. But then afterwards you basically like, yeah, you play good. But we're gonna franchise tag and you're going to play. And I looked at him and I'm like, I'm not gonna play. And where he was going wrong was. Where he was going wrong was he was talking too much. And I'm not gonna say who it was, but it's a guy that make decisions. And I'm like, he's talking too much and thinking it's not gonna get back to me. And everything is getting back to me. You know what I'm saying? So I'm knowing what's being said on the inside, for real. You feel me? So, like, he's basically like, oh, yeah, he needs the money. I'm like, I don't need no money. Like, I could quit playing right now. I'm great. Like, you feel me? So I'm like, where are you getting this information from? Like, why do you think that you got the leverage when I just led the NFL and everything there is for a running back? I'm like, so you telling me, okay, I'm only gonna be 25 at the time. You telling me, like, I can't get paid? So you already deny my fifth year option. Which was the smartest move you should have made was to accept that. You feel me? But you don't do that. And then you like, oh, we gonna franchise tag you in. The franchise tag is 2 million more. So you're going to play on the fridge. I say, but whole time, bro. And my mom, me and my agent, we like, bro, I'm not playing. I'm going to come week eight, week eight, so I can get credit this season and basically force my way out. That's what that was my. That was my planning. If they didn't want to pay me.
Garrett Hagus
Was the first fracturing of the relationship was when they didn't pick up the fifth year option.
Josh Jacobs
I didn't really care about the fifth year option. So a lot of people think that that was the problem. I didn't want them to take the fifth year off because I knew I was gonna get paid more than that, I wanted them to pay me. Yeah. I'm like, it's benefiting me by not picking up the fifth year option. Like, I'm all for that. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm like, cool. Like, I'm good with that. But, like, it was just the fact that I was legitimately 65% of the offense that year. And you telling me that you will not pay the guy that did everything for the team. I'm like, how does that make sense? You know what I'm saying? It's like, basically, you already tried me at the beginning, so you already trying to be cool with me, but I'm already really don't like you. You know what I'm saying? But, like, it's a business. You're not gonna like everybody. You feel me? Like. And so I'm already like, you know what I'm saying? I'm gonna respect you. I'm not gonna disrespect you and stuff like that. But, like, I'm gonna be like, yeah, if I got an opposite, I'm not gonna fuck with you. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, so that's basically what it came down to. And when it started to get, like, I say into the conversation, what made it worse, bro, when it comes to the Raiders, bro. And it really hurt my heart because I tried to stay. I did everything in my power to stay. My agent was even. He was getting mad at me because he like, bro, at what point are you gonna be like, fuck these dudes. Because I'm like, look, I got six teams talking to me about more. More money than you. I'm like, can you match that? They say, no. I said, okay, that's fine. I'm like, can we meet in the middle? Can we get the median of that? They say, no. I say, okay. Cause they was offering me 10 a year. I'm like, okay, 10 a year. I'm like, cool. Can I get some?
Garrett Hagus
The Raiders were offering me.
Josh Jacobs
The Raiders was. I was like, can I get some incentives? I'm like, maybe I hit them, maybe I don't. They said, no. Once they said that, I said, we ain't got nothing to talk about. Y'all let me know where I stand. And the crazy thing about it was, when I had a meeting with Mark Davis, I said before, when I was planning on sitting out. Cause I missed all the camp. That last year I was there. I missed all the camp.
Taylor Lewan
Was your last year there?
Josh Jacobs
What, the year before this? So what is that, 20?
Taylor Lewan
23.
Josh Jacobs
23, 23.
Garrett Hagus
The fifth year, right?
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, the fifth year. I miss all the camp. Cause I'm like. I sat on a mark. And I'm like, look, I'm not asking you to pay me my worth, because you can't. And I know that's realistic, but, like, just don't disrespect me. That's literally all I asked him. I'm like, bro, just don't disrespect. I was like, give me a deal. And Then the crazy part about it is none of the deals was even long term deals. I'm like, yeah, bro, we ain't got nothing to talk about. I got all these other teams, all these other having this respect, and I'm keep trying to come back to y'all and show y'all love and show y'all respect, and it ain't reciprocated. So I'm like, we don't really have too much to talk about. And then what's crazy is I fucking pull up. This is crazy.
Taylor Lewan
So this is to week one, bro.
Josh Jacobs
Before I came, when they was trying to get me to come sign, you know, you got the deadline, right? The signing deadline. And before I came to sign Max, me and Max on the phone. Max trying to make it work, you know, like, obviously Max is a dude. He like, man, like, I don't understand it. Like, whatever. He was like, man, please just come. So we come up there and we got like an hour left before we got to sign the paper or, you know, on a deal or not. And dude comes up to my car. Me and Max is in the car. Max in the car with me. We sitting and he's talking to us. But while on his phone, he don't. While he's moving his phone around, he's on the phone with an interviewer, with a reporter. Literally on the phone with a reporter while he's talking to me.
Garrett Hagus
Trying to. Trying to get conversation out of you, bro.
Josh Jacobs
So anytime that I know it's one report over there that anytime he had anything to say, and they'd be like, where are people getting this information from? I'm like, it's coming from them. It's literally coming from them. Swear. So I was like. It was like. It was just a weird situation, bro, I'm telling you, it was the weirdest situation ever. And it has nothing to do with the Raiders organization. It's more so the people that they had in her at the time, isn't it?
Garrett Hagus
It's like, there's like a saying, right? Like, it's like the good news. Like the stuff like, say you're in the community. Like, the good news always come from, like, the local news, but all the bad news, the national news, comes from internal. Like, comes from the team.
Josh Jacobs
Yes, I'm telling you. And when I seen that, and you know what made it worse? I seen it. I didn't say nothing. Max was like, bro, did you see who he was on the phone with? I said, okay, so I'm not tripping. I was like, I Thought, you know how you. You know how sometimes you be like, bro, I'm tripping. Like, I might be tripping for real? Yeah. Like, I'm like, I'm doing. But, like, when Max brought it up, I was like, okay, I know. I'm like, I ain't bugging. I'm like, yeah. But that's when I knew, like, it was over with, you know? Like, even though I was going there, like, coming back that year to play, I was like, I knew it was over with. I knew that the relationship was over with.
Garrett Hagus
Knowing where you're at now, when you look back at it, what learns do you have from, like, that process? Because I feel like a lot of guys, too. When you get into free agency or you taste the teeth of the business for the first time, it kind of catches you off guard because you're thinking, you know, like, college, like, loyalty. You perform well, they're going to pay you or they're going to take care of you. Playing hurt, it's honorable. That'll get you paid. You think all these different things, and then you come to find out, looking back, you're like, all right, I see why this went the way that it did, bro.
Josh Jacobs
I tell people all the time, to play hurt, you got to be one. Mentally, you got to be different. But, like, once I got to the point where I'm like, damn, I've played hurt all the. I done played with a fractured shoulder, you know, the whole year from, like, over half of the year with this shoulder. And now it's time to get paid. Me doing that is really bad for me. Because now you, like, then they use it against you. Using it against me.
Taylor Lewan
I'm like, it might not be as good, or they say, oh, you're hurt.
Garrett Hagus
A little bit more, bro. The weeks you're playing honorable and the.
Taylor Lewan
Coaches that live you, I'm dying for.
Garrett Hagus
The bull, this guy.
Taylor Lewan
Look at Josh up here.
Garrett Hagus
Your agent be telling you something different. You're thinking, he don't get it. But then when the time comes, yeah, come on, man.
Josh Jacobs
And then you think that if you. So if you do things right and you be loyal, that it's gonna come back. But at the end of the day, it's a business. You gotta understand the business. And that's my biggest thing. Like, looking back, the thing that I would change the most is I would probably have handled it a little differently. I feel like I would have probably, bro. Honestly, I would have handled a little different. Cause I really never spoke on it. I just, like, let them create the Narrative the whole time and then let people assume what they wanted to assume was going on with me for the longest. People was like, oh, it's about money. Oh, it's about. I'm like, it was never about that. Literally, at no point was it about that. I'm like, if that was the point, then I would have took the first offer I had, which was a lot more than what they offered me. You know what I'm saying? But that's just the nature of the beast. For real.
Taylor Lewan
So you would have been more vocal publicly about what was going on?
Josh Jacobs
I think I would have been more direct, for sure.
Taylor Lewan
At any point was your agent sitting there being like, hey, we have to write some sort of narrative as well. You see them playing chess out here.
Josh Jacobs
He was more so like, if this motherfucker.
Taylor Lewan
I love your agent's right here. So funny.
Josh Jacobs
He was like, if this motherfucker do this, like, we're going to do this. Like, we had a game plan for everything. You know, even, like, stats. We started posting stats. It's like, it's hard to deny the facts, like, regardless of what you want to say.
Garrett Hagus
Oh, absolutely. And like, you know, when they didn't claim your fifth year option, like, I remember just being on the bus and talking about how well you were performing when they didn't pick up your fifth year.
Josh Jacobs
Exactly.
Garrett Hagus
It's like, you're doing a lot of different things that, yeah, it is undeniable, like, how great of a player you are.
Josh Jacobs
And then like. Like I was telling him, like, bro, from when I've gotten a league, I'm like, don't nobody have more rushing yards than me since I've been in the league. Like Derrick Henry, besides Derrick Henry, like, you see everybody else that's came in with my year or on, like, I'm leading. So I'm like, I don't know what more you want me to do. Basically was my point with them. I'm like, bro, like, I'm a leader in the locker room. I'm never late to stuff. I'm not in trouble, or none of that stuff. Like, what more do you want from me? You know what I'm saying? I'm like, I'm giving you everything I got and we still losing. You know what I'm saying?
Taylor Lewan
This is during the narrative in the NFL that the running back position is losing, losing its value because nobody outplays their second contract. They only play their first contract. So is there a level of you taking that personal? Did you talk to, like, an Austin?
Garrett Hagus
Because I want you was around that same time when all that stuff.
Taylor Lewan
Derek, Austin, there was a handful of other guys that were like, these guys obviously have high production.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. But there was.
Taylor Lewan
Because at this point in time, there was only one guy in the NFL who got a second contract that outperformed his first contract, and that was Derek Henry.
Josh Jacobs
Henry. Yep. Cause Todd Gurley and Zeke, they was like, yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Like, went downhill. So to pay them a premium was a bad business move at the time, which I'm sure was playing a huge factor with the higher ups of the Raiders.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. And I get that. But it's like, okay, if that's the case, I barely played in college. Don't have them. Don't have that trail, don't have that tread at all. You feel me? So, like, and then when I get into the league, it's like, okay, you can say that, but I'm still the youngest guy doing it. I'm the youngest. Like, I, I. You know, I. I just turned 27. This is my seventh year. This is going to be my seventh year in the NFL.
Taylor Lewan
Could you imagine being your first year in the NFL and, like, can't buy a drink? Like, literally.
Josh Jacobs
Literally.
Taylor Lewan
You can't be like, hey, Josh, you want to go to the club? Can't.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
I couldn't even rent a car. I couldn't get a rental. I swear, I couldn't even. I'm like, bro, I got all this money, I can't get a rental. I'm like, what the hell?
Taylor Lewan
That is funny.
Josh Jacobs
Literally.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. 27 years old, seven years in the league.
Josh Jacobs
Yep.
Taylor Lewan
And now it seems like you, along with Derek, along with Austin, like, a lot of you guys have Saquon. Yes. Thank you. Obviously, huge piece.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Like, you guys have essentially changed the narrative in the NFL that the running back position needs to be more valued than it is now, bro.
Josh Jacobs
It's coming full circle. Like, it's literally coming full circle. You seeing guys start to get paid. Like, I. I keep telling everybody, Jameer and Bizon, like, whatever they get is like, how you gonna know what the market really is? Because those are guys. You know what I'm saying? Like, and the thing. What I was trying to tell the Raiders is it's not too many guys. It's only about really, like, six guys. Six to eight guys like that. You really. I would say you can't really replace what they do. And I felt like I was one of those guys. You feel me? So I'm like, you can't put me in a category with a running back that has Never had a thousand yards in the season. You can't put me in these other categories. You trying to put me in with guys that's never finished the whole season. You know what I'm saying? Like, things like that. I'm like, we got to be talking at a whole different playing field.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
And that was one thing that we was trying to push. That was, like, a narrative that we was trying to push. But it played out how it was supposed to.
Taylor Lewan
Were you guys ever. And there was, like, rumors going around about the running back starting their own kind of, like, pa. Was that ever a real thing?
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, we all. Yeah, we all did. But the problem is, bro, is just the simple truth, bro. Like, a lot of guys are selfish and, like. And that's really what it could. Like, we got on that call, and it was a lot of guys on the call. It was a lot of guys that didn't get on the call, and it felt like it was only two or three of us talking the whole time. Everybody else really had nothing to. You know.
Taylor Lewan
You were one of the vocal guys in that conversation.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, because I was being honest about what I was being told, you know what I'm saying? Like, because I'm. One thing about me, man, I don't. I want. It's enough money out here for everybody, and I want to see everybody win. So, like, for me, I'm, like. I'm telling them, like, look, this is what they saying for me. This is what they saying. Like, me and Saquon sending text back and forth. What you hearing from here? What you hearing from here? Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, and we basically like, look, this is the market. And I'm like, man, look, I'm up here with this dude. You gonna have to pay me up here with this dude, regardless of what any kind of contract look like. You know what I'm saying? So that was something that, like, me and him talked a lot about, but the guys did, but nobody stuck to it. Like, I remember Austin Eckler was talking. Joe Mixon was talking, and we was like, guys, like, okay, are we all not gonna show up to Kim? Like, is that something that we all agreed on? A lot of people talked about it or we not signing? Everybody was like, we not gonna sign. Dude signed three days later. I'm like, bro, like, conversation, bro. I promise, bro. And it was. I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna out nobody. But, like, it was a dude that was talking and literally signed the next week. I'm like, so I already Knew, like I said, like, I knew it was gonna break down because without unity, you ain't gonna have nothing. We ain't got no leverage. You know what I'm saying? So I was like, yeah.
Garrett Hagus
I mean, even at the macro level with the nflpa, it's like when you're trying to get things shifted in the CBA and being at the meetings and everything else, like, you see where it's still like divided.
Josh Jacobs
Nothing will ever get changed in the NFL because the people for our like top guys to our lower guys is so such of a big margin that nothing will ever change. Because if I'm a guy that's making 500,000 a year and I'm like scraping to get that, it's like, you can't tell me a guy that's making 10, 20, 20 million a year to be like, yeah, bro, we don't need to play football this year. He gonna be like, I need to play football this year. You know what I'm saying?
Garrett Hagus
So, like, exactly.
Josh Jacobs
They understand that. They got that leverage, you know what I'm saying? Like, yeah. And that's. It's only, what, maybe 2 or 3% of the guys is making over, you know, 12 million a year in the NFL.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
And everybody else is, you know what I'm saying? So it's like, you're not gonna ever win that.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
And when the dangle, like signing bonuses, like I want to say, when the CBA stuff was happening, there was like a hundred thousand dollar signing, like little bonuses or something. It's just. You're right, it's like the guys that need it that year, it's like, hey, I get that you might be straight for the next several years, but my ass, like, I need this, I gotta play. Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
I got bills.
Taylor Lewan
You just put a dangle a little bit in front and then the majority of the guys are gonna move. Because you're right, 2, 3%.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
I feel like the closest, a moment that was almost changing, it was Kirk Cousins when he got the fully guaranteed contract. I think that's what put a lot of guys at pause. And it was like, okay, if this needs to happen, then quarterbacks need to start this, start doing this. And it felt like it was about to happen. But then I think you're right. Greed gets in the way. It truly for the NFL to change the way the way they go about paying everybody, it would take a full generation of NFL players to essentially bend the knee and say, I'm going to make less money so the future can have more.
Garrett Hagus
We Needed you to do it.
Taylor Lewan
I wouldn't do it.
Josh Jacobs
Ain't nobody gonna do it. Because you're talking about.
Taylor Lewan
You're talking about, like, selfish guys. I'm thinking to myself, like, like, in 2018, I'm like, I have the opportunity to be the highest paid guy. And my. My guarantee was, you know, 60, 70% of my contract. I was like. And I think you even brought it up to me. Like, you're like, hey, if you hold out for this. But I'm thinking myself, that. That sounds awesome. Somebody else will be that hero.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, somebody else.
Taylor Lewan
Now I'm sitting in a garage, so.
Josh Jacobs
I feel like if a lot more quarterbacks actually got on that train, it'd be like, yeah, we not playing the NFL changed a lot faster, too.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. But it's interesting because, like, like, Kirk Cousins does his thing, and he gets whatever, 180 or whatever whenever he went to.
Garrett Hagus
To Minnesota.
Taylor Lewan
Whenever he went to Minnesota. And then, like, you see, like, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, all these guys, their contracts. I mean, Patrick Mahomes is what, half a billion dollars?
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Right.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
The numbers are so astronomical.
Josh Jacobs
It's like, you can't.
Taylor Lewan
How do you say. And like, what's guaranteed? 250, like, 50 of the contract.
Josh Jacobs
Who's the last person to give fully guaranteed? Deshaun Watson.
Taylor Lewan
No, Desean. I think Desean had, like, 80.
Garrett Hagus
Nah. Deshaun got fully guaranteed when he went to the Browns. Yes, bro.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
I mean, the Browns that up.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Bryce Wilcox
Right?
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
I feel bad saying that, Deshaun, but.
Garrett Hagus
Like, because it's like, you, you know, you got the. You got the top guys who will get the fully guaranteed. You also need that level of play to be there to all to also solidify. Right.
Taylor Lewan
Because that's an example where it's like, he gets the fully guaranteed, and then he doesn't obviously have to.
Garrett Hagus
Right. So they want him to have that. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
This is exactly why we don't do this.
Josh Jacobs
Do that. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Because it. Yeah, it sucks, man. It sucks. Obviously, like, a lot of people watching the show, like, yeah, I wish I could get $500,000 a year.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Or whatever. 950, whatever that. Whatever the minimum is for a vet guy. But. But yeah, massive changes have to happen. Massive sacrifice has to happen for change to happen.
Josh Jacobs
For sure.
Garrett Hagus
Was you going to. Making the transition to Green Bay? Was it excitement out of the gate? Were you kind of like, is the grass going to be greener because you had a place for five years?
Josh Jacobs
I was. It was like, bittersweet. Like, obviously, because I didn't want to leave, but when I looked at the team, I'm like, they winning. You know, winning trump everything, bro. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, so I was like, yeah. And then obviously Passaccia was over here. Probably one of my favorite coaches of all time.
Garrett Hagus
That's somebody who can coach, Coach his ass off. Coach you hard, motherfuck you. And then has just these words and builds this relationship on the side to. Anytime he's doing it, you don't feel any type of way about it.
Josh Jacobs
Because he was just a real. As a coach. He's the only coach I've ever had that'd be like, look, see, look you fucking around. And that's why they upstairs talking about how to get rid of your ass right now. He like, either you figure it out or you ain't gonna be here. And like, he was the only one that'll be real and be honest and that's all people be asking for. It's like, don't tell me one thing and then do another thing, right? Like, just tell me the truth. Whether it's ugly or whatever, just tell me the truth. And he's always been that type of coach. So, like, it's just a different respect. So when I knew that, I'm like, okay. And then I came. I'm like, damn, it's quiet. I'm like, I don't hear shit. The food spots close after 8:00. I'm like, damn, this shit is different. But like, it almost forces you to lock in. It's like so much like college that I've ever been around in a pro stage where it's like football and nothing else. Like, you know, I'm thinking around here.
Garrett Hagus
Like, we was just on Ubereats and I think we got. We just. The only spot really we could get was Buffalo Wild.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. But also Buffalo Wild Wings does hit.
Josh Jacobs
No, no. Buffalo Wild Wings out here. Might be the best Buffalo Wild Wings I've read.
Taylor Lewan
I mean, I actually take a massive prize, a five star restaurant out here, but the Midwest is just. It's just crazy. Like, go Vegas. The way Vegas is literally our Uber from the airport to this Airbnb. This lady had the most Midwestern accent ever. She didn't stop talking the entire time.
Josh Jacobs
It's hard.
Taylor Lewan
Shout out Jolene. She was awesome. Like, she just talked my ear off about literally everything. It'd be quiet for like 10 seconds. Will and JP didn't help me at all. The whole time. I'm just in the.
Garrett Hagus
After the headphones on immediately talking my.
Taylor Lewan
Ear off the whole time, just talking about whatever came to her mind. It's like, yo, this is true. Midwest, Midwest. It's like so crazy how different it is.
Josh Jacobs
The dude across the street, dude taught me for like two hours, bro. Like, bro, like, he got a big ass tattoo wooden statue in his backyard of like Vince Lombardi.
Garrett Hagus
Hey, so for everybody, everybody watching right now with the Airbnb, we are in that we are renting out for the NFL draft weekend. Was the Airbnb the house that Josh lived in for like two months when he first got here?
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Which is.
Garrett Hagus
He's like, you talked to. You talked to the crazy dude across the street.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, yeah. So this, this is a nice Airbnb. Shout out this Airbnb. However you talked about building a custom home in Vegas that you never got to step foot in. Did you end up selling it in.
Josh Jacobs
A process right now?
Taylor Lewan
In the process of selling it right now. Have you ever gone just like, stayed the night, felt good about it?
Josh Jacobs
I've only walked. I've only walked in at one time and it wasn't fully done.
Taylor Lewan
Really?
Josh Jacobs
It wasn't fully done? Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
That had to be such a dagger to the gut, man, walking in and like, walking to a place of this. It's not. It's not a custom home. It's not something you put your heart and love.
Josh Jacobs
Come on, man. When I say it was one of the most stressful, stressful times I ever went. Cause I didn't know how much really went into the house, you know what I'm saying? From every, like, backsplash to like every little detail that I could. That you could put into house.
Garrett Hagus
It was crazy that they need your opinion on.
Josh Jacobs
That they need your opinion on. I'm like, bro, it's three fireplaces in the house. Like, pick something. They like, you gotta pick something in here. Like, but that was the whole thing. And then I had like. So I was in Southern Highlands, so, like, like, it's actually down the street from Derek Carr and Gruden's house in Vegas. And I was like, I had like, the biggest lot in the community, so I'm like, I'm doing, you know, I'm souping the house up. But I'm not too much mad about it, man. I'm. I'm due to make almost double what I spent. So I'm not too mad. I'm not too mad about it.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. God, that is.
Josh Jacobs
And then here, you know, here is way, way cheaper.
Taylor Lewan
Oh, yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Money goes way farther.
Josh Jacobs
You don't Say, I got an eight bedroom crib now. And for.
Garrett Hagus
Don't even need them all, bruh.
Josh Jacobs
I'm like, this is crazy. Like, this much house. Like, for nothing. Like, I'm like, okay. Hey.
Garrett Hagus
You know, he sits in the house sometimes thinking, like, why did I get this house? I literally spend all my time in these two rooms all the time now.
Josh Jacobs
You know why? Because when you have family come, you don't have to hear him.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, for real.
Taylor Lewan
It is nice to have that space with the house.
Josh Jacobs
My house, my room got to be on the opposite side of every other everybody else's room. Yeah, y'all. Y'all go have fun.
Taylor Lewan
What is it like when your family comes in town during game week? Like, they get in like Thursday. How much time are you, like, really spending? Because you seem like a cat that's like, during the season.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Talk to you.
Josh Jacobs
Not too much. I ain't gonna lie. We don't spend too much. But the thing is, you know, Fridays be early. So, like, Fridays, I get enough time. Saturdays be kind of iffy. Cause, you know, you got the morning meetings and then the night meetings. But Fridays be kind of like the day we kind of like, just kick it. But Sundays too. Cause one good thing also about playing out here is all our games. Most of our games be in the morning, so we get that whole day. You know, we be done by 3:00. Yeah, you be done by 3:00.
Taylor Lewan
It's so much fun to play the Sunday night games, but there's nothing more convenient than a noon game, bro. I mean, Titans, we've. We do it, bro.
Garrett Hagus
That's what we play new. That's what we going to the Titans and being home at like 4:00. Because in Washington we'd have to commute an hour each time. So you don't get. If you play the 1 o'clock game, you're not getting back to the house at like 7:30 or 8:00.
Taylor Lewan
So when I came.
Garrett Hagus
When I came to Tennessee, and it's like, all the games are at noon, except for maybe, you know, one or two. Primeville.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Jacksonville. Thursday night, week 15 every time. Yeah, it is. It's the. It's the best.
Garrett Hagus
It is.
Taylor Lewan
Especially unless you don't play well, then it's like, you kill me.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. And then like at my house too, we always have all the holidays. So, like, all my siblings have come up, nieces, nephews come up. Like, we had a big holidays at the house. So it's been fun, man. We creating them you know, the memories and the new generation, you know, coming up for us, get to experience that. And I think that's very important, bro.
Taylor Lewan
Just wait until you're done. Like, don't ever wish it away. But when you're finished that first holiday season, really, that first August.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
You'll wake up and it'll be. You'll go outside, like, man, it's hot as hell out here. And then you'll think to yourself, oh.
Josh Jacobs
My God, I used to be out.
Taylor Lewan
I used to do that.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
And then Halloween will come up, and you'll be so dialed into Halloween and Thanksgiving, you're so fired up. Christmas, it's like you might as well be Santa Claus.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Or like, you're like, it's crazy, the perspective that changes.
Garrett Hagus
Oh, I gotta get a workout in. And it's. Wait a minute.
Josh Jacobs
Do I know?
Taylor Lewan
Do I. I mean, I should. I guess I will. But it's just. It's crazy when there's not like that you're chasing that 1% every single year.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. Dude. How's your. How's your dad? He's gotta be super proud.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Of everything that you've accomplished.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, man. He's doing good, man. I mean, I tell people all the time, he's moving around, he's coaching. He's back coaching, things like that. Like, he's been doing good, man. That's. The only way I can explain is if it's quiet, it's good.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
And it's been. It's been real quiet lately, so it's been smooth.
Garrett Hagus
That's good, man. I love, like, when he has his interviews for. When you were talking about the times that you guys were homeless. You just see him get emotional. It's.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, I tell them.
Garrett Hagus
I said, it's got to be wild seeing where you. How far you've come since those times.
Taylor Lewan
The level of sacrifice it must take that man to get you where you are today is unbelievable.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, man. And I. I would say that's probably just the biggest thing I really take away from it. Cuz like, even now, like, me being a dad, I'm like, could I have done it? I don't know. You know, like, just being real, you know, like, the things he done. Like. Like, literally I've watched him not eat. I'm like, damn, he gave us the food, you know, like, he giving us his food. We splitting, you know, three pieces of chicken between five kids and some sides, you know, like, damn. And I'm like, man. I'm like, damn, is he gonna eat, like I remember, bro, I'm telling you, like, we was used to sleeping. Them cars, everything used to be in the back. And it was suburban. So, you know, it's like three rows in the suburban. And I remember I used to wake up and he just. He got his gun sitting on his lap, and I'm like, man, you want to sleep like what you like. But the thing that I would say that I did learn and notice at a young age is I understood a lot. Like, I feel like it made me grow up very fast. Like, I seen and experienced a lot at a young age. So, like, by the time I was in fifth grade, like, I already knew how to cook, how to pay bills, get groceries. Like, all of that by myself. Like, I used to have to go. Literally have to go do it. I used to hate to. You know what I'm saying? But, like, literally, like, God damn. It was just a different. It was just different. So for me, football was always football in school was the only time I felt like I was just, like, regular.
Garrett Hagus
What was it like in your mind whenever the homies would be like, hey, Josh, let's go over to your spot.
Josh Jacobs
You want to know what's crazy, bro? I was just talking to my dad about this, literally last week. I said, I think it's crazy how to all my friends, we probably had the least amount of all my friends, but all my friends always wanted to come to my or like, wherever we was. But I think it's because the way that my dad treated people in the way that he. It was the feeling like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I tell people all the time, people be like, single parent households. Like, I tell people, I'm like, I know a kid right now where he has his mom and his dad at home, but his dad's an alcoholic and he can't be at home. You know what I'm saying? So I never judged nobody because I. Obviously my situation. But, like, you never know what people were going through. So when I feel like a lot of these kids, they was going through things at home that when they came with us, we might not have had the best of things, but it was always peace and there was always love. So, like, I think that was something that, like, I definitely carry for sure.
Taylor Lewan
Hey, that's awesome, man. That is cool. I. I've never met your dad, but obviously I have a whole lot of respect for him. Sure. We're at the draft now. You get drafted in the first round. Where did you go to the draft?
Josh Jacobs
Yes. Regretted it.
Taylor Lewan
What was that experience, like, for you.
Josh Jacobs
They don't tell you that the whole day leading up to the shit, you got interviews, you got media, then you got like an hour to, like two hours to get ready and really, like, head over there and be there, because you gotta be there at a certain time. And then they don't tell you afterwards, like, you leave the stage and literally go back to media. They're doing interviews. Like. So for me, I love the experience. I love Nashville. It was fun. I turned up a little bit and a little bit of time that I had. I had a 6am flight that next morning, so I turned up a little bit. But, like, I felt like it was so much going on, I didn't really get to sit down and really just like, process what happened. And if I was to do it differently, I would have just had a party at home with all my. With all my family and all my friends and then figured it out. But it was definitely something that I'm, you know, forever, you know, grateful for and a memory that is definitely going to last all my life.
Taylor Lewan
What was it like sitting there and you're sitting at the table, you have like eight people with you, plus your agent, and you're just waiting for the phone to ring and you see guys getting picked over and over.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Were you ever like, man, what if I don't get paid? What if I have to be the guy to sit here? What if we had that Geno Smith moment that will last Levis moment where it's like, bro, all the cameras are on me.
Josh Jacobs
I was watching people do that.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
You know, because I knew I was. See, I knew I was gonna either go to the Raiders or I was going to Philly. So I was like, I already know. These are the two teams where I'm.
Taylor Lewan
How were you for sure about that?
Josh Jacobs
Just by talking to him, you know.
Garrett Hagus
He wasn't for sure.
Josh Jacobs
No, he.
Taylor Lewan
I know.
Garrett Hagus
He could have just went. They could have went right by.
Taylor Lewan
I was. When I. When I was getting ready for the draft, the Falcons came to my house.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Monday before the draft on Thursday, and they took a private jet to Arizona. And they're like, hey, if you're there at 6, be ready.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
And I'm thinking to myself, I'll be there at six. Like, I'm. I'm be a dirty bird.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Six came and went. Jake Matthews took him. And I was. I thought I was not going to get drafted that day.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
I thought I was essentially the Truman show, and it's been a show and I was Just making fun of me. I got duped when I had. No way. You really know?
Josh Jacobs
No, you don't really, Truly, truly know. Yeah, but I just know when I had that meeting with the Raiders and I talked to, you know, Kirby Wilson and Gruden, I'm like, one thing about Gruden, I don't think he got a real good poker face. Like, you kind of. Like, you kind of know what he thinking and what he feeling, you know what I'm saying? But, like, the way he just treated me, I'm like, okay, like there's a real possibility. But then when I seen the Eagles, they moved up. It was like the 20th. 20th pick, something like that. They moved up to 20th.
Taylor Lewan
Like 22.
Josh Jacobs
22 or something like that. I'm like, oh, shit, they about to draft me me. Like, I went, you know, took a visit there and. And then they end up picking Andre Dillard. And so I was like, damn. So then I was kind of like, ah.
Taylor Lewan
You know what I'm saying?
Josh Jacobs
Like, it kind of kicked in.
Taylor Lewan
I'm like, sweaty.
Josh Jacobs
And then two pics later, I heard that phone ring and I'm like, did.
Taylor Lewan
You have like one of those old rotary phones they call yourself? They called the rotary thing.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Yes, dude, that's awesome. But the stress is insane.
Josh Jacobs
The stress is insane. Especially because, like. Like I say, you see them people that's not getting picked that day, they thought that they were.
Taylor Lewan
Yes.
Josh Jacobs
Dressed to t family there. And now you see their family, you know? You know you getting sick of secondhand embarrassment and you just like, damn, like, would that be me? Like, you know what I'm saying?
Taylor Lewan
Like, you like, like, that's just.
Josh Jacobs
Come on.
Taylor Lewan
It's scary. When you flew to the Raiders, do you fly private?
Josh Jacobs
No, I don't even. I'm gonna be honest, bro. It's the first time I ever told this story. I don't even know how I got on a plane.
Garrett Hagus
In that short amount of time.
Josh Jacobs
When I got back to the hotel.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, I remember that shit.
Josh Jacobs
I got back to the hotel.
Garrett Hagus
You might not remember.
Josh Jacobs
It was probably 1:00. I got back to the hotel, first thing they did was gave me a bottle of champagne. Nope. I haven't ate nothing the whole day. Cause you doing. We was doing things the whole day. I downed a bottle of champagne. I'm like, all right, I'm still good. I'm with my people. We taking, like, another shot at the bar. I'm like, all right, I'm going out. Swae Lee invited me out. I'm like, all right, we gone. You feel me? Like, I go out, I'm mixing every liquor. And no, I never really drunk in college. So, like, I ain't even know. Like, mixing liquor wasn't something you was supposed to do. You know what I'm saying? Like, so I'm like, boy, I'm good the whole time we out. We must have got in that car. Everything starts spinning. I said, fuck. Got to the hotel. Barely. Barely could get to the hotel. He like, man, look, you gotta leave in literally like an hour or two. You gotta be at the airport, next thing I know. I remember waking up on the plane. Swear I was like, it was funny. Cause we was at the little. If you go back and look at my interview at the Raiders, that first. That first, like, you know, initial was three first round picks. Me, Cleveland Farrell and Jonathan Abram. I'm like, I know they smell the liquor on me. I'm zooty.
Garrett Hagus
I gotta go check that out.
Josh Jacobs
I swear I'm in there.
Taylor Lewan
Like, we gotta have that in this clip.
Josh Jacobs
I had some gum. I'm like, I'm trying to figure.
Taylor Lewan
It's just coming out your pores.
Josh Jacobs
I'm like, I didn't know we were supposed to dress up to this.
Taylor Lewan
So I'm like, you got a Raiders polo on, bro.
Josh Jacobs
I got a polo on, bro. I swear.
Taylor Lewan
Hey, you might want to put this on. That is so funny, dude. That, yeah, the night after is unbelievable. Or the night of.
Josh Jacobs
The night of.
Taylor Lewan
You just get after it.
Josh Jacobs
And like, you said, we was in Nashville. You already know Nashville.
Garrett Hagus
Crazy. When the draft came through, bro. What?
Josh Jacobs
And that was like the largest, like, crowd, like a tennis in a long time. And I remember because I'm like, we was hopping everywhere. Like, that was. That was a fun day. Yeah, it was a fun day.
Taylor Lewan
What was your first big purchase? Where you're like, yes.
Josh Jacobs
First big purchase. Big purchase. I would say my first big purchase was I bought my dad a crib. So I bought my dad a house before I even had a house. I was renting at the time, which I was renting for still in Dublin, in Oakland, because I'm like, I had a three bedroom for like 2, 700amonth. A three bedroom townhouse with a garage. I was hitting the licks, bro. It was people paying 3,800. They'll stay in Oakland, like, for a single. So I was for a single, bro.
Garrett Hagus
Because I remember I just stayed at the extended stay because all the options were crazy.
Josh Jacobs
So I was like. And then, no, like I said, I deferred My signing bonus. So I was living very modest. Like, you know, I'm. Like, I'm not really spending no money or not. Nothing. But actually, I ended up doing a Super bowl commercial for Kia. And I made more in that super bowl commercial than I made the whole year in football. So I went in. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Where was the commercial shot?
Josh Jacobs
In Tulsa.
Taylor Lewan
Really?
Josh Jacobs
At home. I went and bought my pops a crib the next day.
Taylor Lewan
So did you get taxed in Oklahoma for that, or did you get.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
That's a win. That is a win.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
If you play for Tennessee, like, you're playing all eight home games are stating a free state income tax. No state income tax. But then you're also playing in Houston, which is good. Yeah. And Florida in your division, so you have, like, the most amount of no state income tax if you're playing in the AFC south. If you're in Florida.
Garrett Hagus
Well, he got the taste in Vegas.
Josh Jacobs
They had to go to la.
Taylor Lewan
No. Yeah. They got no. They had no state income tax. But the cost of living is crazy.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, it is.
Garrett Hagus
Nice outlook on this year. How you feeling? You look healthy. You look ready to go. You was talking before the pod started how even though you were, like, the most carried back in the first quarter of the first half that you feel like you're in great shape, like, you didn't take much of a beating last year.
Josh Jacobs
That was the cleanest I done had in a year. I probably had only had a couple games where I felt like I was like, damn, this shit lingering. And I feel it damn near the whole year. I was pretty good. Like, you ever come out of game and just feel like, damn, I did a lot of conditioning. Like, didn't even feel, like, no bumps, no bruises, just, like, a lot of conditioning. I had a lot of those games. So for me, like, what I think of the team when you got a lot of young guys who was the youngest team in the NFL last year, it's a lot of hunger, which I love. It's a lot of guys that's still coachable, still willing to, you know, like, put in the work each day and just to have them type of guys with another year's worth of experience. And then obviously, we added some pieces. We added McCo, Harmon, we got Nate Hobbs, you know, the draft coming up, we gonna get some guys. I think we're gonna be straight, man. I tell people all the time, we played the Eagles better than any other team that I've seen. And that was just me watching football and scouting and things like that. I'M like, we gave them the best run for their money than any other. Than any other team. So I think we there, bro. We just a few pieces away and we gotta, we gotta figure it out. Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
What do you think it's gonna take for Green Bay to get over the hump, man? I mean, you guys, the division's crazy.
Josh Jacobs
The division is legit, nuts. The division is legit. I always thought the Bears are gonna get better too, bruh. And they close. That's why I keep telling. I'm like, bro, I'm. I'm not a hater. I'm realistic. I'm a realistic thinker. You feel me? So like the Bears are not bad, bro. Like they got a good team, they just missing some pieces. And I feel like for us, a lot of our problems last year was especially towards the end of the year, like half our team was hurt. Like if we would have won against the Eagles that next game, we would have got blew out. Cause half our team wouldn't have played really. You know what I'm saying? Like I saw it was just one of them situations where I was like, we stay healthy, we get that. You know, we built that callus. And like mentally and physically, we. You know what I'm saying? We, we built that callus. We gonna figure it out. Get that stamina. We gonna figure it out for sure.
Taylor Lewan
What talks to me about Matt LaFleur. Yeah, his process and how he is and then, and then after that, talks to me about his pre game speeches.
Josh Jacobs
You bet. So Matt, he is first off, his mind for the game is up there with the best of them.
Taylor Lewan
He is smart.
Josh Jacobs
His mind for the game is up there with the best of them. Like one thing I love about me and his relationship, we talk every day. So like when we in season, we literally talk every day. He'll pull me to the side or whatever and we'll have our one on ones or he'll be like, you know, what do you see? What do you. Whatever. And we had him conversations. But like when I say scheme wise and like the way he breaks down films and explains like why we're doing this because you know, a lot of people just tell you do this like. And he break it down like, this is why we're doing this. Because they sold this and they sold this. I'm like, damn, this motherfucker. Like he got me thinking like I'm going on year six at the time. And I'm like, damn, he got me thinking about shit that I ain't even thought about. You Know what I'm saying? Like, and so it was a lot of big respect. I think he's also a players coach. He gives the players a lot of. He give us a lot of, like, I'm not gonna say leeway. Cause he don't give leeway. He gonna stand on what he believe in. But, like, when I say leeway, like, he gonna come to the leaders of the team and be like, what do y'all wanna do in certain situations? Like, it's cold outside here, I wanna go inside, outside, we outside. You know, like, things like that. But as a coach, man, like. And he gonna go to war for you. That's another thing too. He didn't got fined for cussing out refs, things like that. Like, if he believe in something, he gonna go to war for you. So he's just one of them guys, man. Like, that group that's in there, you know, Pistachio and all of them guys, man, like, they're legit. They're legit. They make coming to work fun. I don't know if people know, but we got a basketball hoop in our team meeting room and we got something like, even in the workout rooms and stuff like that. And like, they have dance offs. We had like, all that, bro. All that kind of stuff, bro. He understand. He got his finger on the pulse, for sure.
Taylor Lewan
He makes it fun.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, he make it fun. He don't make it just work, you know what I'm saying? Like, and then he's efficient with the time. That is. That's the thing that I love most. I'm not gonna lie to you. Like, because I'm already waking up at 5 every day. I'm not trying to be here from 5 to 6:30 every day. That's basically how I was at the Raiders. Five to 6:30 every day. Here, we out by three. 3:30, you gone. You done, bro? Yes.
Taylor Lewan
On a Wednesday.
Josh Jacobs
On a Wednesday. Only way you stay, only way you staying longer is if you obviously taking care of your body, right? But, like, if you already got all that, like, me, I got a whole setup, like, you know what I'm saying? So they, like, I face them. FaceTime them at home, recovery, you know what I'm saying? So, like, 3:30, you gone. I'm like, this is different. Like, I actually feel like I got a day. Like, I don't feel like I'm just working the whole time, you know what I'm saying? And I think that that's something that helped us a lot, you know, like, especially, like, from a mental Standpoint, it helped our team a lot, but we also got younger guys. And then each generation, it gets a little weirder and weirder. They a little different. So you kind of gotta, like, for real, I'm just being real.
Garrett Hagus
Like, how his voice gets a little.
Taylor Lewan
A little.
Josh Jacobs
A little different, but you gotta adjust. And I feel like he's one of them coaches that. He understands. He has his finger on the pulse for sure.
Taylor Lewan
Did I feel like. Like Matt LaFleur's mind being displayed to the public. A good example of that was Malik Willis and Jordan Love went down.
Josh Jacobs
Come on, bro. A little bit.
Taylor Lewan
And like, I. I love Malik. Like, he is one of those guys, like, in the locker room, always a smile on his face, always seems eager to learn. But when he was at the Titans, it was like he didn't know the cans. Like, he had a really hard time picking up the playbook.
Josh Jacobs
Yep.
Taylor Lewan
And so when he went to the Packers, I was thinking, you know, he's.
Garrett Hagus
Playing in what week?
Taylor Lewan
Week four.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, Week three. Four.
Taylor Lewan
Because we went to. Yeah. And I bet a lot of money on Tennessee. Yeah, I bet a lot because I was like, oh, Malik's playing. I know. Like, you know, I just know he struggled with the playbook quite a bit because I really like him, and I don't want to throw any shade at him at all. But he came out and he had.
Josh Jacobs
A game, and you want to know what's crazy about him? So Malik, great dude. Great dude. First and foremost, work, hard worker. Never shines the light on himself, always gives the light to somebody else. Like, he's just one of them guys that you genuinely be friends with the rest of your life. But me and him, we had that conversation. I'm like, he. Like, he said, bro, this is the first time I ever felt like I'm getting taught how to play, like, for real. And he was like, he said, the way that they breaking it down to me and simplifying things for me, like, I feel like I could just play again. He was like, I feel like I'm in college. Like, I could just play. So that is something like. And even, you know, you've seen it. The fans even kind of was like, damn. Nobody expected him to play as good as he did. And he really blowed, bro. Like, every game he played in, bro.
Max Crosby
He.
Josh Jacobs
Paul, I'm like, damn. Like, it got to the point where everybody was like, ah, shit. Like, what we fitting to do? Like, what's going to go on? But that's just a testament to him, bro. And I feel like when you. Like I said, bro, when you a good person, bro, and you work hard, I feel like everything else take care of itself. And he's just one of them dudes that we had this talk. I literally told him, I said, man, you keep putting this on film, like, you might have some teams, like really trying to come get you, like, figuring it out like this next year. I was like, I don't know how long you gonna be here because you playing so good, you playing at a high level that, like, maybe you gonna get another chance at it. So hopefully I hope he do it, man. I think he. He definitely deserves another chance, at least competing for that spot for sure.
Garrett Hagus
We brushed over it a minute ago because I know Coach lafleur, he's tapped in right now. But his pregame speeches.
Josh Jacobs
Oh, yeah, his pregame speech.
Garrett Hagus
Does he. Does he just give the mic to Bisaccia?
Josh Jacobs
I ain't gonna lie. I feel like. I feel like he. He's not really a pregame speech coach. He like, he had a few that he was like, okay, but he don't mostly, like, he say the shit that need to be said. Let me say that. Like, he keep it more like calm. And then he let the players. He let the players take over. So, like, really the players lead. We lead each other out. Like, he'll say what he gotta say, and then the players, we'll talk and we'll hype everybody up. And then we'll lead. Then we'll lead out, you know, and he's always that way. Now, his speeches after the game be far out of the wig. His speeches after the post the floor. Yes, his speeches after we be fine. He be talking this then, you feel me? But before the game, he's more kind of. Kind of chill. He's more like a. A calm, collected coach. For real.
Garrett Hagus
Plays with strengths.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Got to.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Do we get into the last question?
Taylor Lewan
Let's get in the last question.
Garrett Hagus
This last question is brought to us by Bud Light. Josh, you know how people will do anything? Anything for a Bud Light. What is something that you would do anything for?
Taylor Lewan
Can't say family.
Josh Jacobs
Can't say family.
Garrett Hagus
Could be an ambitious goal.
Josh Jacobs
Any. Something I would do anything for. Damn, that's a loaded question.
Taylor Lewan
You got some low hanging fruit, though, that's just waiting for you to pick it.
Josh Jacobs
What you think?
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, What'd you think? Ring the Super Bowl?
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, but what's anything for, though? Because anything.
Garrett Hagus
Mike Vrabel, when he's on the podcast, years ago he said he'd cut his Dick off for a Super Bowl?
Josh Jacobs
No.
Taylor Lewan
You're not willing to sacrifice for greatness.
Josh Jacobs
Not for that greatness. That's an asterisk next to that greatness. That's what I'm saying. It depends on what you think.
Garrett Hagus
Do you think about when you're in the middle of the season because you're always in that, like top three? Do you have your mind on the rushing title? Offensive mvp, bro.
Josh Jacobs
You want to know something, bro? I've never once in a season came into a season with goals. Really? Never in my life. Never. I feel like when you work hard every day and you literally give everything you have, it's going to play out how it's supposed to. And if it don't, I can at least live with it not playing out how it's supposed to because I know I poured everything I had into it. So I've never had goals. Like, it's to the point where, like, even when I led the year, that year in Russian, my teammates would tell me where I'm at. I don't never know. I never look at that. But I never really care. I'm always big on just like wins and losses. He care. He'll talk about it. He'll talk about it because he probably has. Your own fans should have got that, another touchdown if motherfuckers took you out, you know what I'm saying? Like, but me, I'm like, bro, we won, bro. I don't care, bro. Once you done lost, lost a lot. It's like winning is literally. I don't, I don't too much care about what it looked like. Obviously, selfishly, I do want to play good and I do want to, you know, be one of the guys every time. But I feel like that take care of itself by just my day to day habits and, and what I do on a daily basis.
Taylor Lewan
It's crazy to me that you, because I hear you talking, I feel like Max Crosby has a very similar mindset to you, dude. That you do. It's crazy that you guys are on the same team and you guys couldn't make something happen, bro, because you see you, you really, the head you have on your shoulders is incredible, bro.
Josh Jacobs
When you go in that Raiders stadium, you're gonna see 9, 8, you're gonna see 2, 8, 8 and 17. That's the only numbers you're gonna see. So I'm like, if I'm one of the faces of the franchise, since I've came in, since I, since my rookie year, what's going on? Oh, yeah. And Four. You're gonna see Derek Carr too. Let me not add. Let me not, you know, forget about there. But. But I'm like, so. Yeah, bro. I mean, Max, what makes Max great is because honestly, I've never seen nobody ever like him. And that's just me being like. From the. Mentally, he gotta be off. Like, you gotta be a little fucked up to play football. I'm gonna just be real. Cause what we do is dumb as hell. Like, we run. We run full speed at each other and we hit each other. Like, what the fuck are we doing? But like, like, literally, like, you feel me? But literally, like, the way he approached the game, the way I've seen him go from being a little chubby to being toned up with tattoos and shit. And you like, damn this mother. Who is this? Who is this? But his worth ethic, when I say, you see how he played on Sundays? When I say he does that, he can fuck up a whole practice. Like, he's one of them guys that you gotta be like, all right, you gotta take Max out. Like, you can't let him. You can't let him fuck up the whole practice. He's just such of a difference maker. I've never seen nobody like it. The only guy that I can honestly compare him to is ab, which is crazy, but it's the truth. Antonio Brown had that same work as. Whenever you practice and shit, like every route, 100% come back to the ball, never drop the pass. Like, Max got all the intelligibles, bro. He gonna be great. And just because of. Just because of that alone. And he know how to play the game too. He definitely know how to play the game. He's smart when it come. When it comes to, you know, on the field and off the field. Shit. But, man, that's why I feel like, yeah, Max, like I said, bro, I got too much praise for him because he just one of them dudes. I've never seen nothing like it.
Taylor Lewan
You brought him up, but what was your experience like with Antonio Brown?
Garrett Hagus
Was that your rookie year?
Josh Jacobs
Rookie year.
Taylor Lewan
So that had to be the craziest.
Josh Jacobs
Years of rookie because it's the first time I ever told this story on Interview. You remember the whole time he was like, free me. Remember when the whole video, free A, B, free ab. Free me, grandma. I was right next to him at his house. I got a video on my phone right now. I swear on everything I love. We was freestyling we at my first time ever pulling up to his house. This is when this shit was going on. You feel me? He was freestyling and we sitting there and he got the car, you know, he got the cryo and all that shit. That's before he. That was before he burnt his feet and shit. And so, like. Well, after. No, it was after. It was right after he burnt his feet. So, like, he got a pool and shit. He. One thing I will say, like I said, he worked his ass off. We was there, he in the back. In the back of his yard, catching hundred passes on the jugs. Catching them. Then he talked to his grandma, see? And he was like, grandma, this is what I'm thinking. And I want to leave. And I tell people all the time, do I think that he was wrong? No, I think the way he went about it was wrong. But the feeling that he had, he wasn't wrong. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's kind of hard to explain that unless you really. If I. Unless I really get into it, I.
Garrett Hagus
Need you to elaborate.
Josh Jacobs
So, like, what I mean is, like, why he was upset and the things that he was upset about. He was 100% right to be upset about him, but how he handled it, I think was 100% wrong.
Garrett Hagus
What were the things that he was upset about? Because there were a few things that kind of happened.
Taylor Lewan
I know one that sticks out was like, he was mad about his helmet.
Josh Jacobs
He was mad about his helmet because he couldn't wear his helmet no more because he wore it. Went outdated or something like that. He couldn't wear it. He burnt his feet. And he was mad because he wanted to do, like, he was doing, like, training, but they wanted him to do it, like, you know, with the people he, like, I want to see the best people. I can't fucking walk. And like, you know. So, like, that was the thing. And then him and Mayock had a conversation.
Garrett Hagus
Was that the cracker thing?
Josh Jacobs
They had a conversation. I'm not gonna get into what was said. A lot was said. A lot was said on both ends. You feel me? So, like, I think that, like, the way he was feeling and basically he was saying. Really what it came down to was they threatened to take his money. And so he was arguing, like, to keep his money. So I was like, I understand what you saying. Like, you. And the craziest thing about AB Bro, he would be the guy in the meetings that would be on his phone the whole time, and everybody know he on his phone. And ain't nobody gonna say nothing but he go out and practice and never fuck up a play. Like, I swear, bro, like, he was just different. You feel me? But, like, he was going through that. They was trying to take his money. They was trying to take some of his guarantees and shit, and he was, like, basically going back and forth with him and, like, that whole little thing. And I think that the people he had around him. I don't know if the people still around him, but he had too many guys that were just willing to tell him whatever he wanted to hear. And I remember, like, I said, we was literally freestyling, and he got that call, and he. On the phone, and he called his grandma and all that stuff. And I remember. And I was like. He was like, I got 30 million in the bank right now. Like, I don't. I'm like, first off, why do you got 30 million just sitting in the bank? Do something with that money.
Garrett Hagus
But.
Josh Jacobs
But that's what I was thinking about it. For real, though. For real, though. But I'm like, he's not. He's not. He's not necessarily wrong for how he feels, but he's. He's wrong about how he went about it. And that was my perspective on the outside looking in. But I remember, bro, like, the whole free me and then the video came out, bro, the dude that. The dude that made the video was there the whole time. He was following around every. Bro, this was crazy. I think I brought. Probably pull up the freestyle in my phone. I'm not even lying, but I'm not even joking. Let me see if I can find this, bro.
Garrett Hagus
Yo, that is so funny. Just picturing that video from what I remember of it, and thinking that Josh is just sitting there somewhere and being like, what the hell is going on, bro?
Josh Jacobs
I'm sitting there like, yeah, is this. I'm like, is this the NFL? Is this.
Garrett Hagus
What do.
Josh Jacobs
Like, that's what. I'm serious. And I'm like, bro, like, wait, what in the hell is going on, bro? Let me show you this, bro. I ain't even gonna show the whole video. I saw you right where he was freestyling. You could hear his voice. And I'll show you the date. I'll literally show you the date. And you'd be like, what the. I swear is the funniest ever, bro.
Taylor Lewan
While you're. While you're finding that it's in, like, Mike Tomlin needs love for what he was able to do with absolute on them.
Josh Jacobs
Who. Who is that in the back?
Taylor Lewan
That is crazy, bro.
Josh Jacobs
I'm telling you, bro. I'm telling you. I'm like, damn. But then when he Left. When he left, though, too. I ain't going to lie. It was, like, good and bad. Like, obviously, it was bad for our team, cuz, like, he was the biggest, probably the best player on our team. But, like, all the. Went out the window. It was. It was. I was like, okay, this is football. Like, this is. This is the league. Everybody started locking in all that media and all that. And we was on Hard Knocks, too, so that was another thing. It was a lot.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
But yeah, bro, because I would hear.
Garrett Hagus
Too, like, when I came in that year, that he would have, like, the posse or his crew. They'd be, like, in the locker room.
Taylor Lewan
Like, 20 people deep.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah. Rolling around the building with them.
Josh Jacobs
Nah, see, they might have.
Garrett Hagus
Trying to, like, train after hours. Like, trying.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Just a lot of different stuff. Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
Like, I remember. I remember he came in, and when they brought him in, he was like, y'all gotta find me on the private. And then when he got there, he was like, I'm not paying for this. They gotta pay for it. I swear, bro. I swear, bro.
Garrett Hagus
Like, interesting optics.
Josh Jacobs
He was just there. Different, bro. He was just different. But like I say all the time, like, nobody could ever take away what he did on that field. I don't care what nobody say. I don't care what nobody say, bro. You can. You can get on the person, the man, as much as you. As much as you care for or whatever, but, like, on that field, I ain't. It's not like, him and Max. Him, Max, Tay. I ain't seen a lot like it, like, nobody else like that.
Garrett Hagus
Him, Max and who?
Josh Jacobs
Tay?
Taylor Lewan
Devontae Adams.
Garrett Hagus
Devonte Adams.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah. Devontae Adams.
Taylor Lewan
My bad.
Josh Jacobs
My bad.
Garrett Hagus
That's my fault.
Taylor Lewan
But, yeah, but like, Antonio. Think about Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, Ben Roethlisberger, Pouncy. All those personalities on one team. James Harrison, all those guys on one team. Like, Mike Tomlin needs to write a.
Josh Jacobs
Book about just those years, how he managed all that.
Taylor Lewan
Dude, that is. Makes him such a good coach. And the fact that Steeler fans are like, hey, Tom, I might have to leave. Crazy every year.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
They're like, he. They got to get him out of here.
Garrett Hagus
Yes.
Taylor Lewan
It's like, that is. I don't think there's another coach that can handle personalities better than Mike Tomlin. He has a track record for it.
Josh Jacobs
A lot of coaches don't even, like, when you got any kind of personality for real.
Garrett Hagus
Right?
Josh Jacobs
So, you know, like, especially if you look off. But, I mean, AB Was just one of them Guys, bro, telling you, one of them, bro. One of them guys, he made me step up. I'm like, hell, no. I'm not doing enough. For real. For real.
Garrett Hagus
No, we appreciate you. Hey, J.P. i know you had a question.
Max Crosby
I talked to him before.
Garrett Hagus
Oh, you did?
Taylor Lewan
Yeah. Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
But the air, the light.
Josh Jacobs
Oh, yeah. So. Oh, yeah, Yeah, I know. If you wanted me to talk about it on here or not, you can. I mean, I think it's a cool.
Garrett Hagus
Story, actually, for the Internet, just how.
Josh Jacobs
Long y'all know each other, so. B. Lou. So he does streaming with a guy named Z is. They actually just hit 5 million subscribers literally last week. But it's a guy that I grew up with, like, probably literally since, like, fourth, fifth grade. I've known him middle school, high school, went to high school together, and everything stayed cool. Like, I was just on a. On a pod not too long ago, but cool people, bro, and it's crazy because he went to school, he went to. He played at TU University, play receiver. He was good, bro, but never really got a chance, you know, like one of those situations. But, man, he's doing his thing now. That's my dog.
Garrett Hagus
Isn't it crazy? You just say, 5 million subscribers.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Somebody you grew up with, bro.
Josh Jacobs
And the funniest part about it is when you. When you leave here, just look up his videos, how he act on them videos. It's a hundred percent how he is literally, like, they've always been like, we've been in class. I'll be like, bro, I cannot be in class with him. I'm getting in trouble every time. Just. Just too funny, bro. Just too funny, bro. Like, yeah, he was always that guy, for sure.
Garrett Hagus
Does anybody have anything for Josh before we wrap up?
Max Crosby
One of our guys, it's now back in Tennessee.
Taylor Lewan
His name is Gary Hargus.
Josh Jacobs
Huge Bama fan.
Garrett Hagus
Want to say Roll Tide to you.
Taylor Lewan
And I'm a Tennessee fan, so, like, that's love for.
Garrett Hagus
He said, that's love. So what Jack's saying is Garrett Hargus, he said, you guys share the same birthday, by the way, so he says you guys are practically blood. He's a massive Bama fan, so he was. He was bummed to miss this interview, man.
Josh Jacobs
Hey, I don't have no problems with him being the Tennessee fan. I never lost to them. Smoked a lot of cigars. Smoked a lot of cigars.
Taylor Lewan
Players. Oh, before you go. How much did you ever get paid at Alabama, bro?
Josh Jacobs
Believe it or not, Nothing.
Taylor Lewan
Believe it or not, I don't believe it.
Josh Jacobs
You don't, bro. I wish I did, bro. I swear, bro, the thing.
Garrett Hagus
Oh, hey, I believe him.
Josh Jacobs
I swear. I wish I did.
Taylor Lewan
Story about that makes sense. Derrick Henry tried to tell me he'd never got money.
Josh Jacobs
So, bro, the thing about Bama Foster.
Taylor Lewan
Did he get paid?
Garrett Hagus
Oh, I have no clue. I know he's a freak.
Taylor Lewan
I thought you were pretty.
Josh Jacobs
I'm trying to tell you, bro, the thing about Bama is Saban used to say it all the time. He was like, I want to pay y'all. But he was like, we are literally under the microscope. He was like, so everything we doing is getting judged. He said he wasn't willing to risk it. So if people was getting paid, it was not from him. I'll tell you that.
Taylor Lewan
It never is that.
Garrett Hagus
He said, I'll tell you that.
Taylor Lewan
Do you think Alabama is going to be back?
Josh Jacobs
I think I'm going to figure it out.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
I think I'm going to figure it out.
Taylor Lewan
Contenders again someday.
Josh Jacobs
I think they're going to figure it out. I think the coach needs two to three years to really implement what he believe in. And his coaching style, I think also. Well, just from what I've heard from haha and some of the guys that's been back is it's just a different group of guys, you know, like from the work ethic, everybody complaining. Then, you know, Nil and transfer portal, you know, like saving. Like when I was in school, you had to. You had to almost work and play. You couldn't be like, I'm mad and want to leave. Cause you would have to sit out. You know what I'm saying? Like now you could just go play. Like, it's making the job of a coach very hard. Cause it's almost like you can't discipline guys how you want to. Because it's just different. It's just different now. So. And I think that they told me something like the average guy at Bama makes like 300,000 and that's the ones that don't even play.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah, we were. Yeah, we were hearing some of those same things at Michigan. Yeah, bro, could you imagine getting your scholarship check? Like, I want to say the floor CB was telling us, like, you know, you could have somebody that's. That doesn't do anything. They might get 60 grand.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Garrett Hagus
Could you imagine getting your scholarship check of whatever that was and then getting an extra $5,000 a month just from Nil, bro. And that's somebody who's making six.
Josh Jacobs
I'm not going to lie, bro.
Garrett Hagus
Imagine 300.
Josh Jacobs
I had. I remember. I remember I had, like, you know, your. Your fast one hit come in, and I had like 3,000. I thought that was a lot of money.
Garrett Hagus
The pell grant?
Josh Jacobs
Yeah, the pell grant. I'm like, bro, I'm like, yeah, I got a lot of money. 3,000. You times that by 10. That's crazy, bro. I don't think that nobody at that age is really mentally or, like, prepare for that type of money. Like, I think I know, right? Do I think that they should be getting paid? Yes. But what I think is the way that they should structure the way that kids get paid should be different. I think that, like, you should only get a certain amount, and then the rest you get either when you leave or when you graduate and do it that way instead of giving all these kids all this money to try and protect them. Because not only are you protecting them from their sales, but you protecting them from everybody else, too. Think about how many stories we've heard about people's families taking their money or, you know, people getting caught up in the wrong things and losing their money that way. And you telling me I'm 17 years old and I've come from nothing, and you're going to give me this amount of money, I'm not going to know what to do with it, Right? And then my first thing to do is do the things that I always grew up up and thought that I seen was having money. I'm gonna go get a car, I'm gonna get some jewelry. Like, things that really. You ain't even got that type of money to be doing that type of things that early. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's just. I don't think that that's. I don't think that the way that they structured it is smart.
Garrett Hagus
Yeah.
Josh Jacobs
And the thing that I would say about Saban, I don't know if they still do it at Bama. That was the best thing beneficial for me was when you a freshman, they make you take broadcasting classes and they make you take financial literacy classes. It was, like, mandatory for everybody. And it taught me because I'm like, shit, I ain't know nothing about credit. I ain't know nothing about none of that shit. Like, I literally learned all of that in college, you know what I'm saying? So for me, it was like, without that, I wouldn't know. I don't know if they still do that. But imagine me not knowing that and then you give me, like, 500 grand. Yeah. Like, bro, I'm not gonna know what to do with it.
Taylor Lewan
Like yeah, that is wild.
Josh Jacobs
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
Good for saving to do that too, man. We appreciate you coming on. I know we've almost ended this part like 5 times.
Garrett Hagus
This has been awesome, bro. Thank you for coming on the bus with the boys. Appreciate you.
Taylor Lewan
Come on man.

Bussin' With The Boys: Episode 327 Summary
Title: Josh Jacobs On Raiders Fall Out, Nick Saban Vs Jon Gruden, Packers Outlook + Growing Up Homeless
Host: Bussin' with the Boys (Taylor Lewan & Will Compton)
Guest: Josh Jacobs
Release Date: May 6, 2025
In Episode 327 of Bussin' With The Boys, hosts Taylor Lewan and Will Compton welcome Josh Jacobs, a prominent NFL running back whose journey from a challenging childhood to professional football is both inspiring and enlightening. The episode delves deep into Jacobs' early life, his collegiate career at Alabama, his tumultuous tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders, and his current outlook with the Green Bay Packers.
Josh Jacobs opens up about his upbringing, revealing that he grew up in Oklahoma and faced significant hardships following his parents' divorce. “[I was] living in a vehicle with several brothers,” Jacobs shares, highlighting the instability and resilience required during his formative years. This period taught him essential life skills, such as budgeting and self-reliance, which later became instrumental in his football career.
Notable Quote:
"I learned to cook, pay bills, and get groceries all by myself by the time I was in fifth grade." – Josh Jacobs [71:00]
Determined to prove himself, Jacobs chose to attend the University of Alabama under the mentorship of legendary coach Nick Saban. Initially an underdog, Jacobs struggled with limited opportunities on the field despite his impressive performances in high school, where he accumulated over 1,200 rushing yards in just four games.
During his time at Alabama, Jacobs experienced a culture shock transitioning from his tumultuous childhood to the highly structured and competitive environment of college football. “[Alabama] has such a different mindset,” he explains, emphasizing the disciplined training regime and the pressure to perform consistently. Jacobs credits Saban for fostering a supportive environment that emphasized personal growth alongside athletic excellence.
Notable Quote:
"Football was always football in school was the only time I felt like I was just, like, regular." – Josh Jacobs [72:14]
Drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders, Jacobs anticipated a promising start to his professional career. However, his optimism quickly waned as he encountered internal conflicts and mismanagement within the organization. Jacobs recounts feeling undervalued and constantly having to prove himself despite his efforts:

"I was doing everything right—from classwork to workouts—and yet I still wasn't getting the opportunities I deserved." – Josh Jacobs [80:03]
The situation deteriorated when the Raiders' management began leveraging contract negotiations against him. Jacobs felt that the organization was more interested in financial gains than nurturing his talent. This culminated in a fallout where he was effectively sidelined, prompting him to seek a new team where his contributions would be better recognized.
Notable Quote:
"It's a business. You gotta understand the business. That's my biggest thing." – Josh Jacobs [120:18]
Seeking a fresh start, Jacobs signed with the Green Bay Packers, where he found a more supportive and structured environment. Under coach Matt LaFleur, Jacobs felt his potential was finally being harnessed effectively. The Packers' culture of mutual respect and strategic play resonated with him, significantly contrasting his experience with the Raiders.
Notable Quote:
"Matt is one of those coaches that he's so different. The way that he thinks, the way that he prepares, the way that he goes about his business day-to-day is unmatched." – Josh Jacobs [152:00]
Throughout the conversation, Jacobs provides profound insights into the broader issues within the NFL, particularly concerning player compensation and team management. He discusses the challenges running backs face in securing lucrative, long-term contracts compared to other positions like quarterbacks. Jacobs advocates for a more equitable distribution of resources within teams to ensure that all players are adequately compensated for their contributions.
Notable Quote:
"If you're doing everything right and you're loyal, that it's gonna come back. But at the end of the day, it's a business." – Josh Jacobs [120:46]
Jacobs also touches upon the importance of mental health and the therapeutic value of sharing one’s personal struggles. His decision to open up about his past homelessness and the lessons learned underscores the significance of vulnerability and support systems in overcoming adversity.
Notable Quote:
"Talking about it was therapeutic for me. It allowed me to process and heal from those experiences." – Josh Jacobs [71:22]
Episode 327 of Bussin' With The Boys offers an unfiltered look into Josh Jacobs' life, highlighting his resilience, dedication, and the complexities of navigating professional sports. Jacobs' story serves as a testament to overcoming adversity and the importance of finding the right environment to flourish both personally and professionally.
Final Quote:
"We just keep on going. We were just going to keep on keeping on. That's what we're doing." – Josh Jacobs [131:38]
