This is Julian Edelman from Dudes on Dudes with Gronk and Jewels. All right, real quick, take a look at yourself right now.
Taylor
Why?
Julian Edelman
What's wrong? Nothing's wrong. You look like a guy running on three hours of sleep and vibes. Okay, yeah, I'm tired, kind of cranky and very thirsty. Congrats. Those are some of the potential signs of mild dehydration. And I bet your last bathroom break showed you another sign your body might be throwing you a penalty flag.
Derek
So what's the play?
Julian Edelman
Call Liquid IV hydration multiplier. One stick in water helps hydrate faster than water alone. Okay, but where's the proof? Liquid IV's clinical studies. Not just a guy. I know real science. Results you can trust.

Mitch Carsley
Welcome back to episode 40 of Inside the Bus. This is actually my episode because I was number 40 growing up in all of my sports. Why? Not entirely sure. We can get into it a little bit, but, yeah, that was my number in football, in baseball, everything.
Taylor
Are there any legends that are number 40?
Mitch Carsley
Mike Allstott.
Taylor
There you go.
Mitch Carsley
Just died. And I was one and only. I was a running back, he was a fullback, so. And we're both white, so she kind of felt like it fit.
Taylor
Is that. Oh, so he's why you did it.
Mitch Carsley
No. So I think the way we actually did it, I. I picked. It was my first year of playing football, and my mom was like, okay, you need to pick your number. I'm like, okay, Larry Johnson's number 27. Jamal Charles, number 25. And then I think, like, Priest Holmes was 31. So I picked, like, those three. And then if. Then you could pick, like, if those three aren't available, just randomly assign me one. So I just got randomly assigned 40. And for whatever reason, from the time I was 6, 7 years old playing tackle football, I was number 40 all the way up through high school. So I was number 40 as a wide receiver in high school.
Taylor
So 14 at Susquehanna was your first time? Not 40, so 14.
Mitch Carsley
They didn't have 40 in baseball, so I was 14 in baseball in high school. And then my freshman year of college, I was number 81. And I didn't really. I didn't really like it just because, I don't know, I just felt weird in it. So I just had to get the four back. So that's why just my sophomore year, I texted the coach and was like, hey, can I switch to 14? They were like, we'll see. And then they made it a surprise when I got on campus.
Derek
That's a good number. Michael Wilson.
Taylor
Michael Wilson. I mean, I don't know how Coop does it like that right there.
Derek
Met at the Rim was Michael Wilson.
Coop
Wicked. No Meet at the Rim. Said the same. Was one of the quickest things I've ever.
Derek
I mean, that was a draw. We instantly just. Oh, yeah. Rainy Monstera.
Taylor
I just had no. I've never even heard Met at the Rim used in that context. And it's so perfect, and it happens so fast.
Mitch Carsley
I didn't even hear it exactly and
Taylor
which is usually how Coop moves. The only people that are cured are the ones that, I guess I don't know that it's directed at.
Derek
Are tapped in.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, but yeah, he'll just have, like, I'm just sitting in the corner. He'll just have these one off comments, and I'll just start laughing. I'm being. Hey, Coop.
Taylor
I heard that met at the rim. Derek, what was your soccer number?
Julian Edelman
48.
Taylor
Because keepers, I feel like sometimes will
Coop
have a. Yeah, they didn't really care too much. And so I was 48 for cup because they just, like, handed out jerseys. And I was like, all right, that's my number. And then my favorite player was Kobe and Marshawn lynch at the time, so I just added them up. So it was always 48.
Taylor
Resourceful young athlete. I love that. Dude, we. We. We need a. We need a. A Deke jersey in the. In the office. If you have your college one.
Coop
College one's way to give back. I could find one.
Derek
I could find one. He has to go grab it from the rafters. The raptors of the soccer stadium.
Mitch Carsley
That would be sick if we all reached out through our high schools.
Taylor
I have a soccer one at home, but not. Not my football.
Mitch Carsley
I have my high school football one. I think it may be down here. Or if not, it's back home. We get all of our jerseys, put them in the rafters.
Derek
The only jersey I have is my Keller High School freshman team, like, mesh jersey that they cut off my body when I was on the field when I broke my leg. I have it. It's all chopped up.
Taylor
You still have it?
Derek
Yeah, somewhere. And my cleat? I should bring my cleat. Yeah, they cut the cleat off my foot and then all my teammates signed it. Go right up there.
Mitch Carsley
What number were you. What Number? Number? Numbers.
Jack
Two.
Mitch Carsley
Number two.
Jack
Number two. That was. That was, like, longer. Well, I was 35 as, like, a freshman because you kind of get, like a number. Gotta earn your stripes. And then I. Then I was to my end of my sophomore year or junior year because Jacob Springer was a guy who's a senior my sister's grade. He was 2. And it's always nice to get handed down a number from, like, a reputable guy on the team, for sure. Scary, too. You just gotta.
Mitch Carsley
Were you two in hockey the year you played hockey as well?
Jack
No, I was actually. They just gave me a jersey. There was already a two. And they taped just one stripe and made it 12. So technically I was 12. But that was. You know, about six weeks long. But it was good, though. I definitely still have my lacrosse jersey because we were a club sport at the time. So you had to buy everything.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah.
Jack
It wasn't like they're just giving you stuff, you know, you had to earn it. Did you still hanging in my closet.
Mitch Carsley
I know in football, like, did you or. I don't know if this is in every high school thing, but, like, did your football players in high school give their, like, say you're playing at home, give the away jersey to, like, their girlfriend or anything? Was that a thing?
Derek
Oh, it's. Aware of the games.
Taylor
I don't really remember ever. I feel like we didn't even have access to our other jersey unless we were playing with it. And so I feel like we were the only ones wearing our jerseys. But, man, maybe in the stands. I don't know.
Jack
We definitely had girlfriends. And then I want to even say some of the cheerleaders would kind of like do the crop fold under and wear it.
Taylor
Yeah, that maybe rings a bell more.
Mitch Carsley
Did you all have that in high
Derek
school where people would wear the jerseys?
Mitch Carsley
Like, so say, like, although, like, all
Derek
the players would wear the jersey on
Mitch Carsley
game day, but, like, Addie would wear your away jersey.
Derek
I feel like that's. Yeah, I feel like that was a thing. Maybe more like Keller.
Mitch Carsley
I don't know if that was just like. Because I feel. I feel like that's where it's not a thing.
Derek
I feel like that's the thing also. You want to hear something crazy? Be crazy to me. I go back in the files to look at the file. The incident of when they cut my jersey and cleat off. Number 14.
Taylor
Let's go. I was 14 in football.
Derek
It's all connected.
Taylor
We got three 14s and then my
Derek
boy looking at me flailing. Number 40. Episode 40.
Taylor
Holy.
Derek
We're so close to the dude in
Mitch Carsley
the back on the ground with a broken leg.
Derek
Yeah.
Taylor
Dang. They captured the moment.
Jack
Yeah.
Taylor
Yeah.
Julian Edelman
Oh.
Taylor
Oh.
Jack
Face down.
Taylor
Have you seen that photo before? Yeah. Let me show him.
Mitch Carsley
That's my broken leg.
Derek
That's my story. That's my.
Taylor
Hang on. Derek, switch the camera to you because we need live reaction.
Mitch Carsley
We don't have a camera.
Coop
I don't have a camera.
Taylor
Shoot.
Derek
Just know that this is not my ankle. It is my shin.
Coop
I'll make it. I'll make it vocal.
Derek
It's okay. It's not too.
Mitch Carsley
I thought you broke up to here.
Derek
No, that's where my castle is.
Jack
Good. Action.
Taylor
He's still walking right now.
Derek
He was doing this.
Taylor
Ah, Kevin, where.
Mitch Carsley
Wait, why did you have the cast all the way up to here?
Derek
Yeah. And then they. And then I had a cast up to my crotch. Full leg cast. They needed full stability.
Taylor
True. He missed all this. And coup. Got his first kiss while he was in that leg cast.
Jack
Yeah.
Derek
In a wheelchair.
Taylor
Couldn't even walk. Was in the wheelchair.
Derek
That's why I was the wheelchair relatable. I've been there.
Jack
Does anyone else have photos of your worst injury?
Taylor
Luckily, my worst one was. Was like, I broke my collarbone in a soccer tournament.
Jack
Just slinged up.
Taylor
Yeah, slinged up. And then something that could, I guess, act as a photo is a very clear memory. My first game back from my broken collarbone. I got elbowed in my nose. And so I was like, holding my nose, and my dad was walking behind the goal, and he just goes, oh, for Christ's sake, what now? And I was just like, oh, my God. Nose wasn't broke.
Mitch Carsley
But I don't. I mean, I have, like, film of it just. But, like, my worst injury is a high ankle sprain, so I was very lucky in that sense. But. Or like a contusion or something. But I never really got all that hurt.
Derek
I wish I had the film because that screenshot, that blurry screenshot was from Huddle. The Huddle highlights. And it was getting passed around. Everybody was, like, passing around at school, and the coaches, like, took it down. They didn't even ask me.
Jack
Hey.
Derek
I was like, hey, leave it up. That's what I would have said. Leave it up. I want this. It was before screen recording on the iPhone was a thing, so I couldn't get it.
Taylor
Damn.
Mitch Carsley
Do you have what was.
Jack
I didn't have a one from school. I had a bad head injury in college where I had, like, 26 stitches across my head and cracked my skull. And it's. I don't even want to, like, show it because, like, we'll probably get, like, banned online. It's pretty gruesome. But where my head goes to is, have you guys witnessed any really bad injuries? Because I went to a Trivecca basketball game when I was in fifth grade, and a guy shin went through. I mean, his shin bone went through his leg. Yeah.
Taylor
And they.
Jack
They stopped the game and the game was over. It was. It was just a canceled game, and it was literally just like that. It was. It was bad.
Derek
I have experience. Well, kind of from a distance, because it was in the middle of the football field. This is after I retired due to injury in football. So I was in the Sands. We four Christian played.
Taylor
They let you on the sideline?
Derek
No, this is. This is after the transfer.
Taylor
Okay.
Derek
So I met my new.
Taylor
You had to get away.
Derek
I was in that same. Different program, different colors. We played our football team played a like local penitentiary like these.
Jack
Wait, what?
Derek
Penitentiary. How do you say it?
Jack
That's like a prison.
Derek
Yes, like a prison school. Yeah, yeah. I found the right word. Penitentiary. Penitentiary.
Jack
Yalls Middle School played a prison team.
Derek
High school.
Jack
A high school.
Derek
Fourth Christian. They. These kids that got sent like there for bad behavior. If they had good behavior there, they got to play football and they had a team and they like. It was like. It was like an exhibition. It didn't count.
Jack
This is gridiron gang. Yeah.
Derek
Yeah. But one kid on that team had a very similar injury. Like snapped his leg in half. Bone showing. And they just canceled the rest of the game. I forget if that was junior year
Jack
sports and it's such a brutal injury. They're like, this probably isn't worth continuing right now.
Derek
And we're just like, this guy is. He acted good and got to play football and has legs broken in half.
Mitch Carsley
Damn.
Taylor
No, I can't.
Derek
Really intense.
Taylor
Like a couple of my friends tore their ACLs or whatever, but it wasn't like gruesome ones. A lot of, you know, we had to like. Our football team was really bad, so our old line was horrible. So our. One of our quarterbacks got hella concussions.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, we. I got one from football. Was like one of it was in high school. This kid returned a punt. He was actually on our team. And this kid, I think he like fair caught it. And the other kid just came down full head and like he was the. The guy. Our teammate was just motionless on the ground for like 10 minutes. That part was really scary. But my buddy Andy, who y' all have met, he. This is a skiing accident. We. We were in Vermont for. Because I was in ski club and like that was our ski trip. Every year we went to Vermont and we were going down this hills like the la. One of the last runs of the day. And we were. We went off an A frame and we didn't know it was an A frame till it was way too late. We thought there was like a landing to it. So we went off of it like a good speed and got launched. We went up like me and him went off at the same time. We went up and then like kind of like got pushed forward. I fell like I crashed and like just hit my knee and like just kind of like A.
Derek
Whatever tanked it.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, he. He landed like this. No, his wrist.
Taylor
Oh, his hands. Oh.
Mitch Carsley
So he broke both of his wrists. And he was, like, on the ground, like, moaning, like, you know how when you get the wind knocked out of you, you're like. Like, he was just doing that. My.
Taylor
Hey, buddy.
Mitch Carsley
Like, you all right? Like, just got the wind knocked out of you? And he just wasn't answering. Luckily, like, we went off, and then right over to the right, there was, like, a ski. Like, a rail. And there were two ski patrol people right there, and there was just blood everywhere. So somebody else just got up right there. They came over to us, and we're like, everybody like, you guys all right? And I'm like, I'm good. I don't think Andy's very okay. And so they checked him out, and he's like, my wrist, my wrist. And he's like, oh. The one ski patrol officer was like, just check that wrist. He's like, all right. Like, you're. You're completely fine. You're really okay. Goes on radio. Hey, we need somebody up here. This gets really up right now. So his. Both of his. Broke both of his wrists was slinged up for the next however many months. And it would, like. It was like, he's the best dude. And it was so funny because, like, he was on, like, pain pills. But he. We were in class, and you could, like. You could tell he was on his pain pills, and he would just. Like, we were in psychology class. He would just kind of, like, just start getting loopy, and I'd be like, hey, Andy, like, lock in. He'd be like. Just, like, pay attention for, like, 30 seconds. And then you could tell. You just start floating away again. It was so fun.
Derek
His hydros would knock you out. That's what they gave me.
Taylor
Paid off the hydro.
Derek
And then you know what? I had my, like, pharmacy refill. Got the refilled. Never needed. I still think I have them. Probably don't work anymore to the bus.
Mitch Carsley
They either don't work or they work even better.
Derek
Let's find out.
Taylor
Is the A frame just a ramp?
Mitch Carsley
Yeah. Like, I don't know how.
Derek
Thank you for asking. A kicker.
Mitch Carsley
I don't know what the point of it is, though.
Taylor
What's the kicker?
Jack
Like, a smaller jump.
Taylor
Okay.
Mitch Carsley
It's literally like a. Like, a triangle just on the ground.
Taylor
Oh, got you, got you, got you.
Mitch Carsley
So it's like. It's like you just kind of, like, ramp up it.
Jack
You're supposed to go up and either, like, do, like, Something on the rail, on the top and then you go back down and they use it as a jump, which you should not do because the landing spot is going to be really flat.
Taylor
Right.
Jack
Because it goes down, just goes straight back in.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah. So it's like it went. It was like a quick up and that's why we got launched forward and we thought, thought like you said like it was a ramp and so there was like a downslope but just straight flat and just. We're like. I think I remember midair being like, oh it's.
Jack
Dude, in college I broke both my wrists at the same time. And the pain not, it's. It's the humiliation ritual that you go through for the next six weeks trying to wipe your ass, eating, writing, all this stuff. I luckily had good teachers my freshman year of college and they. I was in ballroom dancing at the time and my teacher for our final, you had to obviously do a choreographed dance with a partner. And I just had to come in on my own time and do the steps by myself with two slings at the end. She goes, it was enough for you to come in here. She was like, you're getting an A and it was a pass or fail grade. So it was like what?
Taylor
So you never got to put on your performance?
Jack
No, I did, I did it myself, you know, which debataly is way, way more difficult than doing it with a partner. But yeah, it's brutal. I've also broke my hand and foot at the same time. There's. It's not fun breaking bones. No. I in seventh grade was working a Fourth of July fireworks stand. It was like July 7th. So you know, the holidays done and we have like one or two more days where we're selling stuff and we're taking down the tent and for some reason they put two 12 year olds to go to the top of the tent. And if you ever been on top of fireworks and or if you've seen one, you know it's that real thick kind of plastic material. So they're like, it's fine. Like you just climb up and you feel like you're like sticking to it. So you climb up. We're taking down the flags at the top and they're like you're fine. Like the only issue would be is if it for some reason rain and like there's no rain and while we're up there, it may be sprinkled for like all of two seconds. And I go down, you have to slide down it and it'll kind of stop you at the end. And I'll never forget the feeling when I'm halfway down. I was like, I'm not stopping. Go off. And it's about a seven, eight foot drop. Land on the foot and wrist on two. So it was my left foot, my right wrist, and land on the gravel. But, dude, I was about a foot away from one of those big industrial stakes that leverages it in. I'm like thinking like, if I had landed on that, it's like, this is a whole different ball game. It was brutal.
Derek
Podcast right now.
Taylor
Yeah, man. Man, I'm.
Jack
It's over.
Taylor
It's over. Especially at that age.
Jack
Oh, yeah.
Taylor
Seven to eight feet is for sure. Thirty feet. Yeah.
Mitch Carsley
You're in the air for what, like, it's what, like two seconds, but feels
Jack
like, oh, yeah, lifetime. But, you know, I think breaking bones is good for a kid's kind of their. Their mental sake. You need to let kids get hurt or else they form habits to where they're scared of the world.
Derek
So they're pretty durable. That's the time to do it for sure.
Mitch Carsley
You've just broken your collarbone.
Taylor
Collarbone in my left wrist. In fifth grade, we were playing basketball at recess. Somebody tripped me from behind.
Mitch Carsley
I've like, luckily, I don't think I've ever broken a bone. I'm sure I've broken, like, toes or fingers from playing football, but never like, hey, you broke this, you need a cast kind of thing. I had, like, when I was in middle school, I had, like, my heel hurt for a really long time. But then by the time we finally went to the doctor, it was already healed, but I had, like, a stress fracture in my heel, which was really painful, but I've luckily never broken a bone.
Jack
Yeah, I was the kid that was just expected to break bones at some point because four summers in a row, from first grade to fourth grade, the first week of summer, I broke my wrist four years in a row. And on like, the third year, people were like, this is like, give it up, dude. What attention do you need now? Skateboarding was one. One was getting my hand hit by a lacrosse stick. One was getting scared by a dog that jumped on a trampoline. And I tried to jump back, and they had this elevated, like, play deck that I jumped, like, successfully jumped backwards onto it. So I'm already like, whoa. And then take one step back, fell off. That one was dirt biking. Put one down just on asphalt. There's. There's been a lot of broken. I think I am at like, 26 fracture slash breaks in My life because I broken my back, fracture my skull, both my ankles, multiple times. Thirteen fractures between both wrists. My pinkies are like. They sit, like, sideways. Like, I have to, like, push it straight up. But. I'm at the point where I hope I never break another bone in my life. Because It's. When you're 12, you're like, this is cool. Like, kids are gonna sign my cast, whatever. Like, I was like, a little attention horse.
Derek
Your bones are like gelatin.
Jack
Yeah. If you're an adult with a cast, people are like, maybe. Maybe I'll just ask another time. Like, you're not asking people to sign your cast when you're 31. Or maybe you are.
Taylor
Y' all ever been in a knee brace?
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, I have.
Derek
I actually haven't.
Taylor
So, Derek, we feel like you got to speak on the. On our injuries because also George Kittle was in the office this week, and Derek was trying to be nice to George and offered him the wheelchair. And George just looks at Derek and says, I'm going to break your neck.
Coop
I think the exact words were, I will snap your neck and put you in the wheelchair myself. And I texted my best friend, said, the coolest thing just happened.
Taylor
I need to send you that clip.
Coop
Please do. Please do. Injury wise, fractured. I was a goalkeeper. A bubble fracture, left pinky 2, dislocated, fractured broken fingers, concussion. I've broke the growth plate on my foot, which I have a boot on. But the worst one was when I was young, we were playing Jurassic Park. I was the raptor, and my brother and his friend had garbage picker upper stakes with, like, needles on the end of it. And it got caught in my cheekbone and went that way and ripped my cheek and, like, pierced the bone to the point where, like, the doctor was like, you should be blind.
Derek
And so I'm a raptor. Yeah. I was like, ah.
Julian Edelman
And so, like, it wasn't really that good.
Coop
He was like, hey, man, you're not like a raptor. But yeah, it was like an inch away from being blind in my left eye, which was the craziest one. But in my adult life, yeah, I had complete fracture and cleaned out all the cartilage in my right knee. And now I have a meniscus sprain in my left knee. So if you guys want to sign my knee sprain, you can.
Mitch Carsley
What's like, the worst injury you've heard of from, like, one of your boys
Taylor
or worse injury I heard of because
Mitch Carsley
that were you saying getting almost blinded reminded me of my buddy that you've Y' all met Schles. He like has a scar on his forehead. He got hit by a jet ski and if it was a centimeter, like 1 centimeter, like to the right or left, like he would have lost his eye.
Taylor
How do you get hit by it?
Mitch Carsley
He was swimming like I think he was on like spring break or over the summer and he was in the lake and some fucker just was going too fast.
Derek
Crazy. He'll do let on like a motor vehicle in the water.
Taylor
On the water.
Derek
I got my motor's license in Texas at 13.
Mitch Carsley
That's insane.
Jack
What the hell honestly happen of jet ski accidents? A kid in my brother's grade name, we call him TDO Tito. His name's Logan though. But he's like this big Hawaiian looking guy, like Polynesian looks like Tito from Rocket Power. He was on a jet ski and got thrown off and they were going probably pretty fast and all of a sudden his. He gets out, he can't move his shoulder. Long story short, a year and a half later, his right arm paralyzed, does cannot move. And he's in high school, he's like a senior. He could not move his arm for over a year and a half. It was because it was nerve damage in his spine. And they did a surgery and they basically go in. I mean you can imagine like the nervous system and how delicate that surgery would be. And they're basically going into it being like there's no real confirmation that this is going to work, but it could potentially work. And it's not going to like you're going to wake up from surgery and be able to use your arm again. It'll be like six months to a year to possibly never. And he was playing video games with a buddy in my grade because he was his young life leader at the time. And they said that they were playing FIFA or NHL and he scored a goal and out of nowhere he just went yes. And my buddies like drops his controller and looks at him and is like. And he's like what? And he's like dude, your arm. And after a year and a half of being paralyzed from basically the shoulder down and it's just hanging limp and he could use his hand, but he would have to like move his hand upwards to use it. All of a sudden his arm worked a miracle.
Taylor
Beautiful.
Jack
His arm's completely fine now.
Derek
Man, I bet those first few workouts with that arm's sucked.
Jack
Oh yeah. But he's the man that, that one. It's like something that's long term. Like if you Break a bone. It's six weeks, two months. You have surgery, you got recovery time. If you have something that is, like, going to affect your life for the rest of time, that's one where you look back and you're like, maybe I gotta take it a little easier.
Taylor
Yeah, yeah, we need. I need. We need to have Cam, my old roommate, on the podcast one time, because he has a story with our other friend Joe. And I don't know the logistics of how this happened, but it was a Jet Ski accident, and they took the Jet Ski out when they weren't supposed to. They're super young, and something happened with the gas or oil, and they, like, pulled up to the dock, and Cam got off the Jet Ski and Joe was still on it. And essentially the Jet Ski exploded. And Cam said, joe just gets launched. And I. Dude, Cam is such a funny storyteller. Like, that's why I need him to do it, because he was like, man, I'm just sitting there on the dock watching my boy fly through the air, and I'm thinking, this is it. And I'm just, dude, if you guys knew Joe, too, like, this image is just too gold.
Jack
It seems like your reaction. Yeah, the Joe seemed like he survived.
Taylor
Well, Joe's all good, but, man, I just like. It's kind of like. Have you ever been on a blob?
Jack
Oh, yeah.
Derek
Oh, I used to get launched on a blob. Yeah, dude, Church Camp Blob beat me up.
Taylor
Dude, we had this guy, Mitchell Felton, shout out Mitchell. We went to Young Life Camp in Colorado and Kirk Creek. Yeah, exactly. That's the camp Sid and I met at, really?
Jack
But we'll tell that story next.
Taylor
Yeah, there was a. They had a blob out there. And there's this girl, Haley. She was actually. She went on to be a cheerleader at Clemson. So she's like, little. Little. And Mitchell is like 320.
Jack
Always got to get the big boys right.
Taylor
Went to Greenwood High School. Same high school as D.J. swearinger, Josh Norman, all these guys. Armani Edwards. So he's Massive play DOH line there. And we're like, dude, you have to launch her. And, you know, she's a flyer. She's used to it. And she flew. I swear, dude, we were like. The photo is just like. You're like. Everybody's looking at a star that you can barely see. And she landed, dude, she was bruised from it. It was. It was all time, you know, there
Derek
was a split second. There was just like, oh, no, why'd I do this. But man, I've been there.
Taylor
Camp legend.
Jack
Camp legend.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah. I wish we had a camp like we. I went to camp. It was just called Camp Winswept. It was more of like a.
Jack
Just like your stereotypical like a ymca. Like summer camp.
Mitch Carsley
Exactly. And like we had. We played like some fun games and stuff, but like nothing like where there was a lake or anything. They had like a pool and they had the woods and we could just go around.
Taylor
Young life camp, man. Yeah, they do it right for their summer camps.
Mitch Carsley
I got accidentally headbutted by one of the counselors one time you're playing tag and I snuck up behind the guy and like tried to tag him and he for whatever reason went like that. Just fucked my nose.
Derek
I loved going to camp every year. Funny story is that we had like these shared cabins with a big ol. There's like two churches, shared cabin, big old space in the middle. And that's where I started playing like four square. We. We would play against him in four square and it like just the best memory. Also the blob when the line like you have your two hours of free time, everybody goes to the lake. Lines long for the blob. I remember like if you didn't land on the blob because it was far down there, you jump down there, you slide off, you're cooked. Your whole free time is just fucked.
Taylor
That crawl out there is nerve wracking.
Derek
Yeah. But even when you like jumping land, it's wet because people been jumping on it.
Taylor
Like try to get to the end,
Derek
you fall off the block. Like you don't get to get launched. Worst feeling ever.
Mitch Carsley
There's an overnight camp.
Derek
Yeah, I was there for like a week.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, ours was just parents drop us off in the morning, pick us up at night.
Derek
I always felt bad for the people that I had to launch. I was like, well, you're not.
Jack
Barely. Yeah, they don't even leave the blob. They just kind of fall into the water. Dude. Speaking of shared cabins, the whole idea of when you're in middle school and a teacher tells you to be quiet and you just cannot stop laughing with your buddies. There's almost an even funnier moment when you're in a shared cabin and it's like some 23 year old kid who's like had enough with all of the stuff all day and it's like it's bedtime and there's really no repercussions if you're gonna be like. But the fun just like someone just going like farting and just like some inside joke that's been like beat too hard all day. Like oh man, I love that time of night when everyone's just trying to settle down and you just can't stop laughing.
Mitch Carsley
Did y' all ever do axe bombs?
Jack
Yeah, I actually got suspended for one.
Taylor
Jack actually broke his left foot.
Jack
Yeah. So this was my fourth break sixth grade. I ax bombed the hallway the day before Christmas break or two days before Christmas break. But in gym class we had a tournament for volleyball that was going on three weeks prior and my team middle

Julian Edelman
This is Julian Edelman from Dudes on Dudes with Gronk and Jewels. All right, real quick. Take a look at yourself right now.
Jack
Why?
Julian Edelman
What's wrong? Nothing's wrong. You look like a guy running on three hours of sleep and vibes.
Jack
Okay.
Julian Edelman
Yeah, I'm tired, kind of cranky, and very thirsty.
Liquid IV's clinical studies, not just a guy I know. Real science. Results you can trust.
Taylor
Well, take a look at me now.
Julian Edelman
Liquid IV is officially part of my daily hydration routine.
Taylor
Past the firecracker popsicle flavor.
Julian Edelman

Jack
Championship. Got to play in front of the whole school at the pep rally going into Christmas break. And my team is on there. And so what do I do? I jeopardize everything I've worked for my whole life.
Taylor
You're the Alabama basketball player.
Jack
Literally. So I ax bomb the hallway and. But I don't tell any of my friends. I just do it during a period when I went to the bathroom. And then it happens. And then everyone's, like. Goes out and it. It was. It was bad. And people are like, what? My friends, like, what the fuck? And I'm like, who did this? Obviously, they check the cameras. I'm on it. I get called in the office. My mom gets called in. And Dr. Kendrick, who was just. You can just imagine. Like one of the vice principals who always had your number, pulls me in, and I'm so nervous. And the first question she asked me, my mom is, did you know that you could have killed someone when you did this? Because there was a kid who had an allergic reaction. They had to call an ambulance. He couldn't breathe. They take him to the hospital. And I'm so nervous, I go, yes. And my mom My mom goes, no, he did not. She goes, he did not know he could kill someone. And I'm like, no, no. They end up suspending me. So they suspend me for the one half day, which sucks, because it's like, if you get suspended, at least you get a whole day of school off. They suspend me for the one day where this vice principal knew how much it would kill me that I could not compete in front of the school for the volleyball. Of course, my team wins too. No one remembers my name. They're just like, you're that kid with the cast. Like, gotcha, dude.
Derek
The. The nervous not knowing the answer. The moment is so.
Taylor
Especially because we've all never know the answer.
Derek
Yeah, you, like, know they're pressing you and it's at 50, 50. And you just quickly have to say,
Jack
I'm like, yes, I would have killed him if I could.
Mitch Carsley
We. I went to a baseball, like, travel tournament in Cooperstown, like where the baseball hall of Fame is. And like, it's literally just house after house, like, of just all of the different teams. And you just get close with different teams. And like, you would just run and just ask mom, just sprint back to your dorm. And then it's like the. The giggles of somebody making a fart noise. And the coach is like, shut the up.
Jack
It's like, no, I always wanted to go to Cooperstown, not to play baseball, just to be in the shenanigans with the boys.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, it was. It was fun, dude.
Taylor
I was. We're talking about how bad, like, how. How much of a bummer it is like, that you. Nobody remembers your name from the volleyball win. I was talking to Connor and he was. They went to the Little League World Series and he. They made it to like the final eight or whatever, and he made a top 10 play. So he gets the number nine play. And he's saying, you know, in my head after it happens, I'm thinking, I'm like, man, this one could make it on tv. And he said that they were. I think they might have even been in studio when top 10 plays was rolling. Number nine from the little League World Series team Nashville. There's a play like, you know, pop out play, and they said the wrong name.
Jack
Oh, it doesn't even matter at that point. It's like you wish you hadn't even made the play.
Taylor
Exactly. Dude. Can you imagine being in middle school? You're on top 10 plays, you're watching it, and they don't say your name.
Jack
Like, well, we can't really see if that's you. I don't know, it's kind of blurry.
Taylor
No, dude, that's. That is me. Right?
Jack
Your boy. Boys are like, nah, man, that's not you.
Derek
Exactly what number was your top 10 boys?
Mitch Carsley
Number three. And they, they were like, fortunately Mitch made the catch. Unfortunately, they lost the game on a number two.
Taylor
And it's like it was the back out to or whatever. Like Chris Paul cuts the lead to 30.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, unfortunately they lost.
Taylor
You have the highest top 10 play in the office.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, it's true.
Taylor
Well, Taylor, what technically was on the number one top 10 play, but for
Jack
a long time, dude, it's sad that the top 10 is just not what it used to be. It doesn't even mean anything.
Derek
Sports. And it just. They don't have that ticker anymore.
Jack
No.
Derek
No web gyms, no top 10, no cool segments.
Mitch Carsley
The tweet was like eating a bowl of cereal. Cereal again. Racing that time up in the top left just to see the top 10. So you have to go reach the bus or whatever. And it's like kids nowadays just don't understand the anticipation.
Taylor
Well, and that's the thing. It's like. Because it would always come on at like, say if you're watching at 8am, it would be the top 10 plays would come on at like 8:53. And for whatever reason, always in your head you had somewhere to be a nine. And it's like, I hope I can stay till number one. Like, and I don't leave too late. And it's like now you're older, it's like TV is scheduled.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah.
Taylor
Like it ends at the same time every single day.
Derek
And it's just a bunch of talk shows where they're just arguing with each other.
Taylor
But. But I'm saying is like you're. Every single day you're thinking like, man, maybe it ends early, but really it's like every single day it ends at the exact same time. And you're always late. But man, that top 10.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, and like rip back then too, you didn't realize that they just. The next hours, the same exact show.
Jack
Oh, yeah.
Mitch Carsley
Or the hour before was like, wait
Derek
a minute, I've seen this play already.
Jack
Yeah, we've all been in that situation, staying up too late where you've hit like your second or third run of Sports center and you're like, I gotta turn this off.
Mitch Carsley
It's not even fun anymore.
Taylor
Now look at us, man.
Derek
Now we are Sports Center.
Mitch Carsley
How long we've been going, Derek?
Coop
For 30 minutes.
Jack
We got more in us.
Taylor
Yeah.
Derek
We need at least 10 minutes.
Mitch Carsley
Your tennis. We need camp.
Derek
Camp's race.
Taylor
Yeah. Which one you want to start with?
Derek
You go.
Taylor
All right. Y' all were here when I got to Texas. I was that I was playing singles. I was visibly anxious. I started getting nervous. So we took to the courts. I got that text on when this past Wednesday. And on Friday, I hit up my boy Tyler. He's a grinder. He's similar level to me. We didn't grow up. Neither of us grew up playing tennis. But he's athletic and he's in shape. One of the most in shape people I know. And we go play Friday at Shelby park, and it is just a two match grinder. And I'm up five, two in the second set. And my fingers start. My blister pops, basically. And I'm thinking, I can't, like, I can't quit now. Like, I know I got to stay healthy for my match. We push it. I'm starting to, like, serve with my pinky out. Hit four hands with my pinky out. It's falling apart. It gets to five, five. And I'm like the number one thing in my head. I'm like, dude, I cannot go to a tie break. Like, my hands just going to get worse. But now I'm also like, I don't want to be that guy that's like, it's five, five. And I try to quit. So it's his serve. I tell him, like, dude, we. I have these blisters. I do not want to go to a tie break. Next. Next service game wins and it's your serve. I end up beating him. And then so you know, he's a good friend. So it's like, oh, bro, you're. You're a punk. Like, you quit, you gave up, whatever. Go buy some tennis shoes on Saturday morning, matches on Sunday. I'm wearing my tennis shoes all day. I wear them out to sand volleyball. I'm at sand volleyball, haven't played in a while, and I'm feeling it. I go and make one play and I try to hit it back over my head. And my shoulder pops twice. And I'm thinking that initial fear you get when something pops and you're just like, dude, did I. There's no shot that I dislocated my shoulder, but it popped twice. I'm like, maybe it was in and out and it's fine. And ultimately, like, I'm moving around and it still hurts today, but I'm like, it's my left arm. It's all good. But that happened in game three of this series in sand volleyball in the championship. So now there's a narrative starting of jp he punks out in the biggest moments, which kills me. Match day comes, my shoes are broken in. I met up with the boys out of Germantown actually on Saturday. They saw my tennis shoes, all whites, Adidas, breaking them in. And dude, the feeling, because I've never really did an individual sport and I know it's just rec league tennis, but that feeling of stepping onto the court in an individual sport when you haven't competed in a while and you get
Jack
that anxiousness, it's all on you.
Taylor
But man, it's like. And when that first serve happens, it's like this is what it's all about. Like I'm finally back out here in the arena again competing. And dude not know. None of you guys are tennis fans really. So this is the worst part about my matches. I got, I got beat 6 to 6 1. But it was a lot closer than the score.
Mitch Carsley
I, I remember you saying every point went to.
Taylor
Dude, we went to deuce so many times, which is basically 40, 40. And we're in grinders of points. Like we probably had two or three 20 plus shot rallies, which is crazy in tennis you're making top 10 plays, you're doing a 20 shot rally. It's French Open. Fortunately we're ascentennial. But this guy, he was, he just, he made way less mistakes than me. I had plenty of. I like to verbally abuse myself, especially in, in individual sports. You know, I like look over at sitting, I'm like, I'm worthless. I should never step out here. Why, like, why do I do this? But then the very next point, I'm like, we'll probably win. Co my coach comes over, talks to me. He's like, you got to work on self talk. I'm like, dude, trust me. Like I need this. I've moved on in the next point. But it was one of the most fun, probably one of the most fun days I've had all year.
Mitch Carsley
That's awesome.
Taylor
And just. And it's a sport I didn't grow up competing in, so like to do something new. And I know that I had fun because getting my butt whooped sucks. But it's also like I can't wait to, can't wait to go back.
Mitch Carsley
So you have another one this Sunday?
Taylor
Well, I'm gonna be in Japan, so it's my Japan training arc and when I come back, yeah, heads will be taken.
Derek
You come back with like this samurai headband.
Taylor
Like samurai headband. Hopefully a katan katana. But yeah, it was. It was. It was a blast. What? Later on in the season, I'll have to. I'll. I'll send out the official invite.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah.
Taylor
And I'll get some lessons from Jack's mom.
Jack
Yeah, she could. She could definitely.
Taylor
My serve was struggling. Only double faulted like two or three times, but zero pace on my serve.
Jack
If I told her Karate Kid on Sunday, she'd probably be out there. She's played thousands of matches. Or Centennial UTSA Mixed doubles tournament with your mom.
Taylor
That would be fire.
Jack
She's won the whole state and nationals like three times before. She obvious. She's older now, so. But she was. She's a. I've met like moms in passing in my life where they're like, your mother is Kathy McPherson. They're like, you know what she is to Nashville's Tennessee. And I was like, no. Like, no. But thank you for telling me. That's beautiful.
Taylor
That is A. Kathy McPherson is a great tennis name.
Jack
Dude, I'd love to get out there and hit some rallies too. If you ever need someone just to hit be a wall with, I'll. I love getting out there playing tennis.
Mitch Carsley
4.
Jack
It's too hot.
Mitch Carsley
Why don't your mom go?
Taylor
Probably.
Jack
Dude, it's. Yeah, mom. Why didn't you go pro?
Taylor
Like, did she get into it later?
Jack
My mom got into it later. She was more volleyball player growing up and then I think. Exactly.
Derek
So why did you go pro? Volleyball.
Jack
But she, her like peak was probably between the ages of 35 and 50. And she was that like when we were growing up, she was very, very involved in tennis, competitive league tennis. So she still loves it. So that's baller.
Taylor
Yeah, I'll film it next time.
Derek
Coop Cancer. First of all, has anybody in here been to like an iron man race for like any other friends or family?
Mitch Carsley
No, not to an iron Man.
Derek
But triathlons, I'm sure it's similar insane the crowd, because you have. And this is the second one I've been to now. And I think that's one of those things where the crowd is pretty consistent of what it's gonna be every time because there are some people that die for this shit. Over 2000 racers. And then all the stuff that's blocked off and then you have like almost triple that for like family supporters. I mean, camp had six of us, so like, that's for everybody. Like just insanely busy. Just everything in that city basically shut down in that radius. But it. First of all or I already said first of all. Second of all, shout out to camp. Because when you a grown ass man with a full time job and a wife and like the amount of training that goes into that, especially for your first time, I mean you're always training. It is like almost another full time job.
Taylor
Yeah, it really is.
Derek
So like I kind of kept at like camping of days. Like when he goes to the lake and swims to train. Like you have to swim every day after work. Swimming at like the local like gym and then biking. Like finding a group to bike with, like really practice. And then running.
Jack
Is it one mile swim? Hundred mile bike marathon.
Derek
It's just over a mile swim. Like 56 miles biking and then 14 running. I think it's a half ironman. Unfortunately, the wind on Sunday was insane. Like hurricane level went like the lake. The waves were like capping. It looked like the Bermuda Triangle out there. It was. They canceled the swim, which sucks because it like. And there's they. So they canceled the swim for everybody. The professionals. Because there are people who are labeled. I didn't know. And really until this one. I didn't even know at the last one. There's professionals. They let them swim 350 meters and then like calculated their time based on that. Like, like I said, there's people like that is their full time job.
Taylor
Yeah.
Derek
Which is just insane. But it sucks that Cam didn't get to do the swim. But he, he got to. We saw him take off on the bike, which was cool the way that they do. It's like waves like boop, boop, boop. And then they like release a crowd and then he was off. And then we didn't see him on the bike because they just go off. 60 miles.
Mitch Carsley
Where was this again?
Derek
It was in Texas in Lake Louis. Like Little Elm. Just a. Their first time hosting too. Which the logistics of that. Crazy there. I know there was some like incidents like this one woman got like, got hit by a police car while she was biking. Got like helicoptered away. Crazy. I found that out after. But it's fun because on the app you can track like certain checkpoints and you can see their pace like slow down for everybody.
Jack
I'm sure start to really struggle.
Derek
Yeah. But it was sick. And it was fun to be like. Even though we're. When he got to the run, we got to see him every. Because of the. The run is laps, big laps. So like every 30 minutes we would see camp come by and be like, ah, let's go. But. Oh, and also the Crowd, they let you cross like the track. Like they have like ushers that kind of like say, okay, you can go now. Big crowd about to cross this like big like almost near the finish for like the professionals that they were getting done. Everybody else was like halfway into the race, we all cross and I come within like an inch of hitting a runner because like they're all like shoveling. I'm like, go, go, go. Like I didn't like, we didn't hit anybody, our crowd. But there's like these spectators that are like, oh, come on.
Jack
Oh.
Derek
They're 80 miles into a race. First of all, it's not even 80 miles. But I'm like, I'm like, brother, they, they told us to go, what do you want from us? I'll do better if I just went and weaved with it.
Taylor
But the crowds don't get enough credit that show up to Iron Man's marathons
Derek
because all the signs too.
Taylor
Yeah, for five seconds.
Derek
Yeah.
Taylor
Like, I understand you trained hard. You did a lot of these things. But this race started at 5am and I was here at 5am just to see you for 10 seconds.
Derek
Insane. So it is, it is worth it for the finish. The finish is really fun. We got a good spot like camped out the. The finish line is all the big spectacles. Some people. I was praying camp didn't do this. Like camp finished like you know, like at his pace. Like he said hi like and ran. There was like some dude like jumping like hype, like, like all this like
Taylor
people would like just sick if camp hit the jump.
Derek
Me and, me and Diego, my. My future brother in law were kind of judging some of these people because they were like really making it all about them as a CrossFit summer. Like, all right, like come on.
Taylor
Miked up at one of these events would be all time.
Derek
But then Camp Cross Normal. I was like, that's my fucking dog. And you know what? Breaking news I'll break right now. Job. Job's not finished. Didn't get to do swim camp. Comsog has signed up for an ironman in October to finish what he started. And I will be back for that.
Mitch Carsley
Shout out camp.
Jack
Is that in Texas as well?
Derek
It is in Waco stomping grounds.
Taylor
We go to a Baylor game.
Mitch Carsley
Is it full or half?
Derek
Half. Okay, maybe full in the future. I don't know.
Mitch Carsley
Dude, that is. I've done like a triathlon and it was 300 meter swim, a 5k run and like a 15 mile bike. By the end of that I was so Tired.
Taylor
That swim, man.
Mitch Carsley
Like, it was. And I. The swim took me, like, three minutes because of the current being so fast, but, like, Mitch is on his back. It was. Swam it in the Cumberland and it was freezing, and that water's disgusting.
Jack
I was gonna say, man, I've lived here my whole life, and I've never swam in the Cumberland. But is it by the Titan stadium or is it. Yeah, dude. Where all the barges and boats go. Needles and dead people there and, like,
Mitch Carsley
the place to get out of the water. And I don't know how it is or would have been there, but it, like, bottlenecks. So, like, there's 75 people trying to get out in, like, a 10 foot, like, wide area.
Taylor
Everyone peeing, and you're just getting.
Derek
You just take your chance kicking people.
Mitch Carsley
Like, you start to get, like, worked up, and you just have to, like, calm yourself down. But that. I mean, that I thought I was gonna die during a run.
Derek
Dude, the bathroom thing is funny because I was thinking, like, you're. You're going through all these fluids, but you're like, you're going through them. So, like, I didn't think camp. And, like, he's in the suit. He finishes the race. He's like. We're like, dude, your time, like, kept getting slower. So he's like. He's like, I stopped every lap to pee, like, twice. He's like. He's like, I had to pee. So the whole race I was like, dude, I couldn't do that. It would take me two minutes before I had to pee again.
Jack
Right?
Derek
Yeah. With my bladder.
Mitch Carsley
I mean. Shout out camp.
Derek
Shout out camp. I hope he gets to swim the next one because, like I said, jobs on finish. And also both Ironmans that I've gone to support. Friend, brother, swim got canceled for both of them. So if the swim gets canceled in Waco, I can't.
Taylor
You got to be done.
Derek
I can't show up.
Jack
You got to compete. Next time.
Derek
It would just get canceled. I can't be near it.
Mitch Carsley
Is he gonna get a tattoo?
Derek
I don't think so. Because that was another thing. Me and Diego were like, look at everybody's ankle. They all have it. If he did a full, I'd be like, you got to get the tattoo.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah.
Derek
I feel like you are an iron man.
Taylor
Yeah.
Mitch Carsley
Damn.
Derek
That there was. I mean, the tattoo was very prominent. I noticed that in Florida too. The first one I went to, everybody's has it in, like, the same place, like, on their ankle, calf area.
Taylor
The end of the day, Ironman is A scam.
Derek
You pay a lot to do it. Yeah.
Mitch Carsley
How much is it?
Derek
I forget exactly. I. I'm sure the fool is, like, way more, but you have to pay hundreds for the race itself. And then, you know, like, the. The bike, the suit, it's all expensive.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah. I think the triathlon here was, like, 150.
Derek
And it's funny because my. My brother was saying, like, there's some people with these nice bikes that he was passing, and they were just going snail pace. And he's like. He's sitting there thinking, like, why'd you buy this bike?
Taylor
Yeah. Thousand.
Derek
You're just going, why? Like, why are you. Like, if you're not. Like, try. Like, if you're just doing it to finish, why'd you buy this bike?
Mitch Carsley
There were. There were bikes that literally sound like transformers.
Derek
Yeah. And the professionals. It was funny. They all, like. It looked like a faceless army. They all came out of the water. They were the same height. Like, they all had the same suit on. Like, all. They had the best gear. They all look the exact same. And they had, like, helmets that made him look like they were from Tron.
Jack
The ones with, like, the aerodynamics.
Derek
Yes. And they all had the same one. I was like, no way. Camp has that helmet. I would have known about that.
Taylor
But camp had on edge the whole race.
Derek
I'm Kim's biggest supporter, but I was like, camp, you can't be celebrating across the finish line. I'm glad he didn't do that.
Taylor
No Tron helmets. No.
Derek
Celebrating across the Tron helmet was just wild. It literally looked like the grid, like people were just running out. They were all. It was insane.
Mitch Carsley
We should do. There's a Spartan race in Nashville in October. We should all do it.
Taylor
What, 5k?
Mitch Carsley
Just 5k or 10k.
Derek
That's like boot camp, right?
Taylor
That.
Jack
It's like the Tough.
Derek
Like a race, like, where you go in the mud and the.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, there's, like, mud. There's, like, so many obstacles.
Derek
Or monkey bars.
Mitch Carsley
There's, like, monkey bar ones. You got a pull hard looking up.
Derek
Oh, you. I carry my.
Mitch Carsley
Carry like a shit right up. Like a thing of rocks. Like, it's. There's no point in any of it, but it's just like a. Like, you see if you're a Spartan or not.
Derek
Yeah. I want to do your Spartan or an iron man in today's world.
Mitch Carsley
One of these. One of these years, I want to do hi, Rocks. And I think, Jack, you're gonna. You would be.
Jack
Yeah. My gym is huge. Hyrox Proponents.
Derek
What's that becoming?
Jack
Walk on like the New Age CrossFit. There's.
Derek
That was a legit question there.
Jack
There's five events. It's. It's inside usually like a convention center. And you'll run. I believe it's a kilometer. Yeah. Kilometer. You do squatted med ball tosses, you do sled pushes, you do burpee broad jumps. Yeah. Farmer carries. And by the end of it, usually like really high competing teams. Anywhere between like 57 minutes, like an hour and then anywhere after that's kind of in it. But yeah, my gym has some real hardos. Shout out Booth camp. It's a. Awesome place to get better. But we have two girls who went to or Nationals. Excuse me, not nationals. Glow Globals or whatever they call it. Yeah. Worlds in France and place third. Like, they're absolute machines. One's name is literally Machine Meg. Shout out Machine Meg. But Hyrox is a very intense thing. Jack Jones and Broads are doing it in New York and in May. So that'll be, that'll be fun. But it's high rocks. High rocks. H Y R O K X I think. But yeah, it's kind of like the new age CrossFit games if you want. With less like barbell weighted stuff. It's more like body work and then med balls and sled pushes and then kettlebells.
Derek
Best I can do is immerse.
Jack
Yeah.
Mitch Carsley
More like calisthenicy definitely is like.
Jack
But it's, it's taken over. If you're in like a gym community, you've probably seen high rocks athletes. But yeah, I don't know. I'm. I'm up to talk about it. I'm kind of waiting to see if the wave dies down. Just stick with the iron, Man.
Derek
We all chickened out of the Murph last year with Taylor.
Jack
Yeah. I haven't done a Murph. I don't know.
Derek
We were going to do one at
Taylor
Lipscomb, I think, but it was Memorial Day week. Oh. We had off.
Derek
I couldn't remember why. Yeah, that fizzled out.
Mitch Carsley
I know the Booth camp does the Murph every year, right?
Jack
Yeah, I did it two years ago. Definitely will get you. The pull ups and push ups with the weighted vests start eating you alive. But it's for a good cause, man.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah. So you got to do it. I think like after last year. Every year I want to do something like physically challenging.
Jack
Yeah.
Mitch Carsley
But not, not like it just kind of like a legit event kind of thing.
Jack
Yeah. Not just on your Own.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah.
Jack
I feel like because people, you can do an iron man just on your own. Yeah. If you want, just go for a
Mitch Carsley
10 mile run for fun. Which is insane to me.
Jack
You celebrate that. When would you allow the celebration if you did a solo iron man.
Taylor
Oh, to me, that's way more impressive.
Derek
The solo.
Taylor
If you did a solo, you don't
Derek
have everything blocked off for you. I don't know.
Taylor
Versus everyone at that.
Derek
I. I wish y' all could see the. The type of people I'm talking about.
Taylor
Oh, I have a perfect idea.
Jack
I know. Exactly. And then you said faceless army. I'm still thinking about that.
Derek
Those are the guys who cross with like straight face. I'm talking about the. Is it raining?
Jack
Might be.
Derek
There's also swim canceled. There's also a guy that ran by in one of the like, laps trying to be a comedian. He's like, I guys, I really have to poop right now. I'm like, dude, just run. He's trying to make the crowd laugh.
Jack
Shut up and dribble.
Derek
People high fiving. Like all these kids that I know, they don't know. I'm like, come on.
Mitch Carsley
Coop is really a hater, dude.
Derek
I'm really not though. There's some people that I'm just like, you're doing too much.
Taylor
And they are.
Derek
Respect them for like, I couldn't do it.
Taylor
You could do it.
Derek
I could do it. Maybe. I'm not gonna try. I'd probably pull something.
Taylor
We should create our own Coop.
Derek
Just.
Taylor
It's super short distance, super short swim. But we charge people like $500 a person maybe per event. But Tom, you can't get the. The metal unless you do.
Derek
You have to wear bus and like official bus and merge just for the
Mitch Carsley
one event to get canceled.
Derek
Yeah, dude. Luckily all the suits that they wear. Well, I think this is how they get you is it's like a multi purpose. Like it's. It's not just for the. Like, you're not buying the wetsuit just for the swim. It's like a. An iron man suit. So it's for all of it. So like you have to buy. So swim gets canceled even though you bought this thing for the swim. Guess what? It's. It's for everything else. So you're good. You know what I mean?
Coop
Did he get money back because the swim was canceled?
Derek
I actually don't know how that works.
Mitch Carsley
Probably not.
Derek
I would say no. I would say no. They still got like their metal for finishing though.
Mitch Carsley
Did he have like the camp. Have what? Like what was camp wearing? If that kind of sounds weird to ask.
Derek
He was wearing like a basic one. Like he didn't, you know, describe it more in detail. Guys, I. You wouldn't even believe it. All black. Like there's nothing to describe.
Mitch Carsley
Just like the pant. Like the pants I wore were like kind of like not joggers.
Jack
Like biking shorts.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, like biking shorts. And they had like a smaller butt pad and you just.
Derek
It definitely looked something like. I mean, I gotta show y' all picture. I can describe it other than like a black wetsuit looking thing.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah.
Derek
And it's funny cuz after I was it, it was pretty tight and he's. He's chiseled. Hey, strong boy.
Taylor
Shout out camp man.
Derek
It's funny because after the race he's like, because if you're doing it for the first time and it's not your whole personality, like it's not camps, but sometimes it is for people. Y' all know what I mean?
Taylor
I feel like this is truly a stand up comedy set.
Derek
Like, no, y' all know what I mean though.
Taylor
100. Yeah, I'm saying you're crushing it too.
Derek
But we're talking after in camps, like, like, obviously he wants to do the swim. He's trained for it, so he's gonna do one more and do the swim. That's decided. That's fine. He was thinking after, like, he's like, yeah, like I don't have to do it again. I'm like, could you imagine? Just like the just showed like training like a few months for this iron man and just showing up being like, yeah, I can do this too. And then just quitting and all the professionals, like, I think that's hilarious. I think it's more funny to be one and done than to be a lifer. Could you show up, say, yeah, I can do this too. I'm an Ironman. Got my medal by all.
Mitch Carsley
Nothing makes you special.
Derek
Yeah, I saw Ironman at the airport. People flew into Little Elm for that.
Taylor
To your point, I know we got to get rolling here, but this is like one of my, one of my friends, I guess he had a friend that was going through Navy SEAL training and so they did, you know, they made it all the way through to get to hell week or whatever. And he was like, dude, the number one guy in our class. Like, he crushed everything, you know, zero mental breakdowns. But like, when they got to the part where, hey, hell week's over, Congratulations, y' all have completed the hardest part. Yada yada. This one Guy was just like, I don't think this is really for me. I'm like, imagine going through Navy SEAL training with all these people quitting. And then at the very end, you're just like, I don't know if this is really the life I want.
Derek
Same vibe. If Camp would have walked away right there, I would have been like, that is awesome. Yeah, hilarious.
Mitch Carsley
I'm sure once he does the full thing, he'll probably be like, yeah, I'm good.
Derek
Yeah, I think that's. I think that's where it's going.
Taylor
Good deal. Camp Comstock episode and Mitch Carsley, number 40.
Derek
Shout out camp man.
Jack
Yeah.
Mitch Carsley
Yeah, that is. That is dope.
Derek
And he was just fine after. I was like, dude, I would be dead. I'd be like Michael Jordan on the ground. And then. And then guys there were. I'm sorry. Last thing, they had, like, a massage table station that all these racers went to and got, like, their legs massage after the race. And it was just lined up with like, massage table, massage table. All these people get a massage. Not camp. Just saying.
Taylor
I'd have got one, unfortunately, just to let you know. But I've been on that table.
Derek
Well, you got to get in line because there's. Wait in line. People, like, trying to stay loose still, like, while they're in line, so they just don't freeze up.
Mitch Carsley
Sounds out.
Derek
Coop, thank you for tuning into episode 40, the Mitch Casley episode, and then Dirk Nowitzki episode next week. I'm actually very excited about that. Hey, come on. Dirk. Goat. Thank you all for tuning in.

This "Inside The Bus" episode is a classic hang with the Bussin’ crew, riffing on nostalgic youth sports stories, sharing grisly injury memories, recounting wild camp moments, and diving deep into recent adventures: Taylor’s bid to become a tennis player and a close-up look at the grueling world of Ironman and endurance races. The episode blends locker-room wit, plenty of personal anecdotes, and playful roasting, anchored in authentic camaraderie.

The episode is classic Bussin’—loose, raw, and stuffed with inside jokes, hard-won wisdom, and the universal rites-of-passage tales (from youth sports heartbreak and bone breaks to adult rec league humiliation and the endless quest for physical challenge). Fans get a glimpse of the friends behind the mics: equal parts dumbass, competitor, and sentimental bro.
