Welcome back to another episode of Inside the Bus. This is episode 46, preseason Will Compton number 46 along with Alfred Morris.
Coop
It's hard to Top that, you also have Lee Smith and Andy Pettit. Craig Kimbrell for a little baseball flavor.
Derek
That's a good one. Pittsburgh Steelers long sniper. Christian Koontz, Chartreuse Valley High School. Texted my girlfriend in high school. Hated him for a long time. Sure, he's a nice guy now.
Coop
All right.
Derek
No, it was just.
Ryan
He's.
Derek
Christian Koontz was like, the guy growing up for high school. For a local high school, he was just the stud. He played at Duquesne, and now he's the long snapper and has a podcast. He's the sickest dude. I never got to meet him or anything, but it was always just like, yeah, that dude.
Matt
He texted Cat or he texted your ex girlfriend.
Derek
God, no. High school one of my first girlfriend. They were like, friends.
Ryan
Do you remember what it was at all or the message?
Derek
No, I mean, they. I believe. Dude, such high school stuff. And this girl, I mean, she has a family and a child now, and she was lovely, and he's a lovely guy. I genuinely. They were friends because her best friend went to his school, and so they became friends there. But he's also like, the guy. And so I'm like, oh, like, you texted him? Because he's like, a stud now. He's on the Steelers, and I watch him. I'm like, ah, it's pretty sick, dude.
Ryan
That's awesome.
Derek
46.
Ryan
That kind of makes me think of. And this is really. Wasn't supposed to be a topic, but I don't know if y' all have any text messages from ex girlfriends or maybe current girlfriends that just stand out to you, like, whether y' all were in the middle of a breakup. Post breakup. I don't know if something jumps out. Matt, you can answer this, too, if you want.
Matt
My. I don't have a text, per se, that pops to mind, but I remember this is like, a slight flex in college, the game where I made it on top 10, and it was like, the next week or think. The ESPN thing came out Saturday night, and then it was Sunday, and that's when I was talking to my college girlfriend. But my high school girlfriend FaceTimed me 70 times. Like, and I'm like, we're broken up. Stop calling me. Stop calling me. Like, denying every single call. She's like, I just want to congratulate you for making it on espn. I'm like, thanks, were good.
Derek
She said, I saw that cat, and I want you to know I thought you were a cat.
Matt
70 times. Like, maybe. Yeah, she was spamming you at least 25, 30 times. I know Matt's been there before. It's like, it's not fun to be a part of.
Ryan
Feels good, though.
Derek
You felt like the man.
Matt
I kind of felt like, yeah, I just made on espn. Now you want to talk to me? You. You cheated on a guy who's now on espn?
Ryan
Dang.
Matt
That's what you want to do? N. We're good news numbers. This. Yeah, you're good. She broke. I'm up.
Ryan
Matt, you got any or.
Matt
No,
Ryan
mine's. Mine is not anything crazy. It was just one time we. We broke up, I guess, like in the middle of the summer. And then the first week of school, I just get a text that says, screw you with, like, a bunch of U's at the end. And I honestly had no idea what it was about. And it's kind of funny because we end up getting back together. And then it became sort of like an inside joke of, like, if something was just a little bit weird, we'd. We'd text each other just like, screw you. But that's the only one that. It always jumps out of my head. I just remember that feeling.
Matt
Do you remember or care Share. What happened is for her to say that.
Ryan
No, I honestly have. I can't remember at all, like, because clearly it was just a way she wanted to spark conversation back up.
Derek
It had to be minuscule for her to take it as a joke later.
Ryan
Right.
Derek
Is where I would assume. And you're good friends with your exes.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt
I feel like your stomach, like, did your stomach. Like, my stomach would have been like,
Ryan
oh, my stomach drop. I'm thinking, man, what the heck did I do? Yeah. Especially in high school. That is so true. Matt said, for those that couldn't hear him, he said multiple use, though that's flirting, which I do agree with.
Derek
That's spitting.
Matt
That's. That, bro. That's. I remember, like, texting, like, hey to a girl. Like, how many wise do I put right the dumbest shit of all time.
Ryan
Different generation.
Matt
Matt, what did he say?
Ryan
He just went.
Matt
You're probably just sending straight meat first,
Coop
but meat off the rib.
Derek
I love him just giggling because you said it softly, but he could hear it very loud.
Ryan
But the episode's not about ex girlfriends. The episode is about the NFL draft. Our thoughts on it. We got to visit Derek's hometown.
Derek
Yes, sir.
Ryan
He got a little bit betrayed maybe by their pick. Project pick. I'll let him get into that. Coop. Also, I know he felt. Well, actually, he didn't feel. He's told us before the pod he had does no longer has feelings.
Coop
Yeah.
Ryan
Due to what they did.
Matt
But how far are. How far were you guys staying from where you are originally from?
Derek
Yeah. So where we were staying was extremely close where I used to live, which I got to show them the place. But where I'm from is about 40 minutes outside. Oh, yeah, Go ahead. Say you're not from Pittsburgh.
Matt
So you. You. How I say I'm from Philly is how you say you're from Pittsburgh.
Derek
I would say it's agree.
Ryan
Yeah.
Derek
Monroeville. If people say that. So that I had that conversation in college, where I sam from Pittsburgh to anybody that ever says anything. And then the inner city kids go, well, what color were your street signs? Because if they were blue, that means you were in the city. If they're green, you're in the suburbs. Which I totally get in respect. At the same time, though, I lived down there for freaking different.
Matt
Because he lived in Pittsburgh.
Derek
Right.
Matt
I never lived in Philly, but I
Derek
would say you're from Philly if you're from the surrounding area of where it goes. Like, we're good. The easiest way to say is like, Chef's a Braves fan. He ain't from Atlanta. But, like, Jared living outside Atlanta would say he's from Atlanta. That's how I always view it.
Ryan
I'm from Greenville, man. No, you're not.
Derek
Okay.
Ryan
You're from Brentwood, man. I'm just kidding.
Derek
Matt's over there. If you didn't hear me said, I am from Brentwood. I'm sorry.
Coop
So I feel like I'm from Dallas. Yeah. 20 minutes. DFW.
Ryan
Yeah. You're from Dallas for sure.
Coop
I'm from Keller. That's basically Fort Worth, which is basically Dallas. Y' all get it.
Ryan
And to also stamp Derek even more, like, how long have you lived in Nashville?
Derek
This is. This will be going on year six, I believe.
Ryan
And we ran into three people that just saw him on the street and were like, derek, what's going on? And just the same neighbors from all of his, like, community back then when he was living in Pittsburgh. And, like, they're still there. I'm sure they live in some different places, but it was just cool to see. That was my favorite part about Pittsburgh was the neighborhood feel. And we got the full experience because we walk into a coffee shop, a guy standing outside, d, what up? I'm like, he had been here for six years.
Matt
I'm sure I could go to certain spots of Philly. If I know where my boys are living, I'd Be like, see, I'm. I'm from here.
Derek
He's bearing the lead, too, because we go into the coffee shop, and of course, JP knew two people.
Ryan
They were Titans, though. They were Titans workers.
Matt
Oh, okay, dude.
Ryan
I mean, six years, though, like, yeah, I, Like, I wouldn't go back to Bradenton and be walking around and, like, see people that I know.
Matt
I mean, he's Pittsburgh Motion. Like, I'm not Philly repping.
Ryan
Yeah. Yeah. Also, one more shout out to Derek on his podcast that he had back in Pittsburgh. They did a going away episode, and it was a live, live show, and over 100 people were there.
Derek
We stuck it in this little corner that I got to show them. So that's my.
Matt
Derek really had pissed for emotion.
Derek
We were. We were very close to having motion, if I understood any of it at the time, but I showed them, like, we can recap the whole trip real quick. But the. The best part for me was showing them the gym that we recorded out of the back of in a closet. And so we had this little closet in the back, probably three fourths the size of the room we're in. And we had two L tables, our computer, a Golden TRK game, all that stuff. But, like, I got to show them where the live thing happened. And, like, everyone was my going away podcast episode. So we had people, you know, it was standing room only. Not a big deal, but we, like, it was the coolest thing. And I had all my buddies from back home. One's a professor of sports journalism at Ohio College. He texts me. My old partners Josh and Greg, text me. All the thoughts on the bench. Guys, text me. And they were just like, hey, just so you know, we all kind of feel a version of we made it because, like, all that work went into something that's now happening. It was a very, very, like, very blessed, grateful trip. I was very, very full circle.
Coop
Yeah.
Ryan
I think my favorite part is basically what I was. I just didn't realize that the city there had that neighborhood feel because I'd never been to Pittsburgh.
Derek
Yeah, Rogers, baby.
Ryan
Mr. Rogers. Exactly. So it was cool. I feel like it would be such a fun sports culture to be a part of.
Matt
I feel like it's different from. Have you. You've been to Philly before? Yes, sir. I feel like, like, man, you know, Manioc area. I feel like that's what all of Pittsburgh is. Am I correct in saying that? Because I've never been to Pittsburgh.
Derek
Yeah, very much. Where it's just. It's very local feeling. It's Very neighborhood. It's very Sidewalks. It's very bikable. Because Philly, to your point, Philly's a city. Yeah, like, I love Pittsburgh true and die. But, like, Philly's a city. Nashville's bigger the downtown than Pittsburgh is. The downtown Pittsburgh for itself is a bunch of localized neighborhoods with a downtown. And so when you're like, true. If Mitch is walking around Philly, that's because that's. That's like a New York. Right city too. So just give a little there. But we will say, yeah. We saw G, My buddy that works at House of Highlights. He is at the coffee shop. An old co worker named Lindsay was walking her dog, and she texted me. She was like, hey, like, next time you're in town, can you remind me to put makeup on? I had, like, eye patches. Walking her dog, I was like, you're fine. And then we ran into a high school friend at that same coffee shop. And so it was. It was cool.
Ryan
The food scene also slept on. Food scene in Pittsburgh.
Matt
I feel like they got some stuff.
Derek
We.
Ryan
Oh, they got some stuff.
Derek
A lot of James Beard chefs, a lot of Michelin hype and talk. A lot of cool spots. A lot of fine dining. There's a pla. A couple places. There's one that's at the High hold, which is in a castle outside of the town. They're going for Michelin Star. We went to Meat Potatoes, which is where I used to live right next to. So I got to show them, like, the apartment building. But me Potatoes is the place we used to save up to go to. We got to sit in a private room. I never knew there was a private room. Had no idea. So we did that. We went to my number one brewery, Cinderlands. We got bro there and food.
Coop
That's your number one on your list?
Derek
On my list of 90.
Matt
That looked fire.
Ryan
And, like, I gotta say, man, even things.
Matt
The beer just, like, beautiful. I don't know if it was just like the chalice it was in, but I'm like, that looks like it would smack right now. But in, like, the wings, the quesadilla, the. I think I heard clump. And Jared got a Crunch Wrap.
Derek
So the Crunch Wrap supreme. Their rips. We got Caesar salads. Sure. Made a whole salad, which he was just like, this is good. And it's a. It's a hot day. Got some burgers. The wings were good, man. And my buddies, they're one of their head brewers. He. He rips Pokemon packs with the brewers there. So he brought out Their card is a milk tank. And he got Will and Taylor to sign it, and he said they hung it up in the office the other day.
Matt
That's sick.
Derek
He's a huge, huge fan of everything. And so it was. It was cool there. We walked down the strip. So the strip district is where all of our marts and, like, Steelers merch, and there's a fish market there and stuff. Ran into Fish. My college roommate, who works at one of the places.
Ryan
That was crazy. Yeah.
Derek
Fish. To tell that story. We. He works at the only PA liquor store. So, you know, wine and spirits, like, is all of it. This is a liquor store just for Pennsylvania liquor. So everything made there can be sold there, but they can't take out of product stuff. So during COVID they had a huge boom because wine and spirits, how we have to buy our liquor was shut down. Fish is one of the only. It's like the sommelier for bourbon. I can't think of the word. But he's one of, like, five in the state, and he's a dog. Played college ball. We got in the restaurant scene together. We lived in a year in a one bedroom apartment with our mattresses touching. And he was dating a girl, and I was dating a girl. And I was like, good night, Sarah. And he's like, good night, Kale. And we're just, like, saying, good night. The girls hated it. We thought it was the coolest thing ever, bro. He rips. He's the homie.
Ryan
Yeah. I can't say enough good things about Pittsburgh. And I was not expecting much, honestly. I'm like, this will be cool to see. I know they have good sports culture, but I'll probably be ready to go by the time that we're out of here. And when I'm there, I'm like, dude, I could. I need to come here, like, on a trip for a weekend.
Matt
Where was the draft itself?
Derek
Yeah, it was right outside Acrisure. So we were stationed. There's like. So you walk across Roberto Clemente PNC parks here. Then there's a bridge, like, a gap of. Not a bridge. A gap of, like, bars, Acrisure, and parking lots in between. So all the parking lots were the setup. And it was on the stadium. We were on the other side outside what's called the science center in, like, that parking lot. So we were set up behind. But they did a good job of, like, the area felt good compared to. The only other draft I've been to is Detroit.
Coop
Yeah.
Derek
And Detroit was on one street, and it felt like battle of the bastards. Like, I'm looking around. There's people here.
Matt
That's. I think that's how like, Nashville was.
Derek
Yeah. Oh, I'm sure Pittsburgh felt spacious.
Ryan
More definitely spacious. Yeah.
Matt
The Green Bay one last year was like, that setup I felt like was pretty cool.
Ryan
Green Bay was awesome. Honestly.
Coop
Did you go to Green Bay last year?
Matt
Yeah, that was. I. I. Did they have a 40 setup?
Ryan
Oh, yeah, they did have one.
Matt
I saw. I saw a comment on either YouTube.
Ryan
I saw that.
Matt
It's like I was. I was waiting for Mitch to run a 51 again. I'm like, bro, I'm so bummed. I couldn't go. And I was aiming for like a 4 9. Just kind of like messing around, but, like, couldn't even.
Ryan
Based off our pump pass kick, we might actually have to set up a race between Matt and Mitch. He. He was.
Matt
Go ahead and say what I like. I had offered to race, and Matt's like, shut up. I need. I need one win on the day.
Ryan
Yeah, we don't. We don't gotta get into it. We'll get into it next week after the video comes out.
Derek
Such a fun video there.
Ryan
Yeah, that was a good one. I'm trying to think.
Derek
Last thing I'll say Pittsburgh, too, was we didn't get over to Mount Washington, but permanent brothers. The guys getting to try that sandwich was big. A couple bites there. And then I did get to sneak away. We didn't get to take the crew, which stunk. But I snuck away at one trip to snag some Bud Lights. And then I snuck another trip to grab some waters and, uh, form energies. That's how I word it. And we. And so we ran into my brother at a new bar that he opened up there. So I got to take German real quick. Yeah. And so stop in. Said hi to him, brought Sherm back, said hi to him, and he met Sherm real quick. We had tried to go after me and potatoes, but we left dinner 11:30, bro. We were the last ones there. And then after the draft, we were all just ready to lay down for a second.
Matt
Dude. I remember the draft when in Green Bay was late night because we made
Ryan
the same walk back. Like, you know how he walked back from Lambo to the Airbnb? We walked back from.
Derek
Did that feel like a bad walk?
Ryan
I loved it.
Derek
Okay.
Ryan
The weather was perfect through that park. We were on our step game that whole week. 10k. I was on 5 day over 10k streak. Yeah.
Matt
How was Dano?
Ryan
Dano is awesome, man. I really. I really don't know his story that much, and I know we were talking about it, but he'll allude to, like, the reason I love football so much is because it was the only family I ever had. My family was so broken growing up that these are, I consider, all the locker rooms I was in, my actual family. And I wish we could have learned more about that. And I'm sure he's probably shared it a million times and that's why he kind of just brushes over it. But he truly is. I mean, I know he gets a lot of hate from some of his takes, but I feel like he's one of the best actual guys that's on tv.
Matt
He seems like I was watching. I think I was watching the vlog. And when Taylor or Taylor and Dano both mogged Will, they're like. He's like, what's mogged mean? It's like he seems so innocently, like, awesome.
Ryan
Right?
Matt
And like, he doesn't know, like, the. The lingo and whatnot. But, like, he seems like. And even when he was here for tight end, you, like, just. He seems like the dude think that
Ryan
my favorite story actually was probably his spike ball one.
Matt
Yeah.
Ryan
With his kids. And he's. His kids are basically like, if we beat you in spike ball, then we get a phone. If we don't, Dan O. Says, you get a phone your junior year of high school. His kids are going into high school right now, and him and his wife got that work. And I'm like, I feel like that's the perfect image of probably what it's like to be a part of his family.
Matt
I feel like that would honestly be something you and sitting would do a million percent. And you would be getting pissed at sitting for, like, not.
Ryan
Yeah, dude, perform. Sitting is athletic as crap. Spike ball. I got her in for sure. But, like, if we play doubles tennis, like, I'm the weak link. Yeah, if we play pickleball, I'm the weak link. It's just bull crap.
Derek
The thing I liked about Dana, too, is he talked a lot about his. His son with autism.
Ryan
Yeah.
Derek
And we. I couldn't talk about it after. It's not like a hidden. It's a secret for what's going out. But they talked a lot about a project that he's working on. Did they bring it up on Cam? I forget if they mentioned.
Ryan
I know. I can't remember if it was during or.
Derek
Yeah, I think we can talk about it off. But that project was so cool because you're just like, he loves his family so much. He was such a cool guy. Very, like, nice to talk to for a second there when I got to. And his little.
Matt
They did talk about it, because I remember hearing it.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt
Because, like, somebody was making a clip about it or it was in the vlog.
Derek
Maybe it was just the character that he couldn't mention.
Matt
Yes.
Derek
But he could do clanky. But, yeah, that thing rips.
Matt
So for we can say it. Dana's son Madden, who has autism, is doing artwork for backyard baseball, which is sick. Unreal. And it's like, that is like, four to be a kid. And like, yeah, I'm in that game. Like, that's so awesome. But, yeah, he. He seems like he rips and, like, good presence. Like, I'm always curious, like, you always hear how, like, the running out of the back of the end zone, like, the safety thing, it's like. But he went to UConn and, like, got drafted. Like, and UConn's not a football school. Like, he was there with. I think him and D Butt are, like, the two players to really come out of UConn. I feel like I'm forgetting a running
Derek
back, Skyler Bell, this year in the draft, and that's the only one I could think of.
Coop
They had a few guys in, like, the 20 teens.
Matt
Yeah.
Ryan
Because we played them in a bowl game one year and I remember they had a good running back.
Matt
Yeah. But I cannot remember, like, I mean, he. For him to be in the league for 12 years coming out of UConn, it's like he must have had some shit to him. Granted, he's like six, eight, six.
Coop
I mean, didn't he start that whole. I mean, I know it wasn't great. No glory, but then he start the whole season for that Lions team that.
Matt
I don't know if he started the whole 016 season, but I think he started a good bit of it because
Coop
then they got Stafford right after and he was still on the team.
Matt
Yeah.
Derek
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Matt
But I mean, like, seeing those pictures of him, too. He's got such a baby face.
Ryan
Oh, I know.
Coop
UConn.
Matt
Yeah.
Coop
Yeah.
Derek
He was cool, man.
Ryan
Love, Dan. Oh. Need him in Nashville. For sure.
Derek
Yeah.
Matt
How is that? What's everybody's thoughts? And I'm more so asking this to one person of their. Of their draft.
Coop
I came on here last week and said, man, I just don't want the Cardinals to draft Jeremiah Love. And the.
Matt
That it was him and Jeremiah Simpson.
Coop
Or Jeremiah. Yeah, Ty Simpson.
Ryan
Yeah.
Coop
And then we got Carson Beck. Like, literally, we're just cursed. But here's. Here's my problem. The thing about the Cardinals drafting love, and this is just a Cardinals thing. He is probably the best overall player in the draft. Good argument for it. Best player in the draft. And somehow the only, like, team that would draft him and fuck it up is the Cardinals because they have so many holes. They just paid like, two running backs. When you have a team full of holes and you're the worst team in the league, you don't need a running back. And then when you get him at 3, he costs $51 million. Not my money, but we're like, we just drafted a $51 million running back when we needed line help, when we needed, like, defense, we need all these things. We took a $51 million run back. And then, you know, it's whatever, he'll be good. He'll take the Saquon CMC route and play for us a few years, be really good. We'll stink. And then he'll go somewhere else and win a Super Bowl. So, like, I'm already prepared for it. I'm not buying a jersey because then it will be irrelevant to do with
Derek
your Tyler Algier jersey, but burn it.
Matt
Did you buy a Tyler Algeria?
Coop
Oh, no, no, no.
Ryan
God, I might have to get you a jersey. Would you wear it if someone else bought it for you? Probably because, bro, it's a moment, like, as somebody that. Yeah, yeah, like, I would wear it
Coop
till the wheels fall off in two years.
Matt
Would there be a jersey? Like, who's. Do you want a jersey of any of the players on your team?
Coop
The only jersey for the Cardinals that I would feel good about is Trey McBride. But then, like, not Buddha. Yeah, but he's just like, he's, he's, he's towards the end, like, Trey McBride's our star. Buddha's like our consistent pro Bowler, but nobody really cares about Buddha. I love Buddha.
Derek
Just go safe. Get a Chase Besantis jersey. He's your guard you drafted.
Coop
I'm excited about that one. You. You did gas. Gas him up. I'm excited about him.
Derek
Good one. Just get his jersey. Lineman's are super safe. They're not going anywhere for their contract.
Coop
Well, here. And another thing, going back to Carson Beck.
Ryan
That's crazy.
Derek
What?
Ryan
This Carson Beck.
Derek
Oh, I'm so sorry. I thought you were saying the lineman take.
Coop
I think. I hope he's good.
Ryan
No, no.
Derek
Yeah, Beck was wild.
Coop
Yeah. Carson Beckham. So all the discourse on. On Twitter is like, well, I don't hate it.
Ryan
That's crazy.
Coop
Here's the thing. It's like, oh, it's, it's okay because they're going to get a quarterback next year. You're like this little bridge. Like, he can be a backup. The Cardinals are like prime to tank this year. Be awful and draft a quarterback in a loaded class next year and have good weapons around them and kind of build it like the right way. Like start building it the right way. And we burn a third round pick on Carson Beck, who has a lot of questions. Like he. Yeah, he was good at Miami.
Derek
Was he? See that?
Coop
But that's what I'm saying. Yeah, like he was good.
Ryan
Joe Montana was also picked in the third round.
Coop
Well, Carson back Angel Montana.
Derek
Exactly.
Coop
Here's the problem is like I get
Matt
that aspect of like burning a third round pick when you could have get
Ryan
like, oh, why do you need so much rounder, bro? I would love.
Coop
Quarterback is a next year problem.
Ryan
I wish we could see a world where the Cardinals don't pick them. And I'd love to see where Beck would have went.
Matt
Yeah, but I don't think like, I think y' all are hating on Beck.
Coop
Yeah, but he's just not that. Like, we are drafting a quarterback next year.
Matt
No, they're not.
Coop
We are drafting a quarterback. So like, it just doesn't make sense. And you have all these holes in a third round picks, a high.
Derek
You could have got Markel Bell, tackle one to Philly. After that you get Romello Height, Texas Tech there. Antonio Williams at wide receiver. Oscar Dunn is a backup. You could have got Caleb Douglas, wide receiver, Texas Tech could have got Drew Aller. A few picks later. AJ Halsey at center, Zachariah Branch.
Coop
They better not wear back. They better not let him wear 11. If they were. If he wears 11. I'm burning it down now.
Matt
Like, I think Beck is a good quarter. Like he. I want to say this could be very wrong. He has the most starting snaps out of any quarterback that got drafted this year. He's got.
Ryan
I would bet. Yeah, he has.
Matt
He has like the most experience, which is like I kind of like a metric that they use of like whether you're not going to. Whether you're going to be successful or not. And not only that, like in the SEC against like the really good Bama teams. The really good. Who else did they play? The rest of the SEC kind of sucks.
Derek
Yeah, some LSU guys.
Matt
Lsu, Texas, like whatever. Tennessee. But like he has that experience and like winning SEC championships, making it to the national championship two or three times. Like I don't think he's a bad player, but burning a third round pick on him.
Coop
But it's the same thing as the. Jeremiah Love is like. It's. The Cardinals make the wrong pick at the wrong time, it doesn't matter if they're a good player or not. Like, Love is not the right pick for the Cardinals. 31 teams would have been crushed. Like, crushed it. That would have been a great pick. It's. He's still gonna be a good player on the Cardinals. Not what they needed.
Ryan
They.
Coop
They kind of fucked up Carson Beck. Another team could take him in the third round. It's like, oh, you know what? Like, he could do something. He could do something to the Cardinals.
Ryan
But like, they.
Coop
They are going to get a quarterback next year. They do not need. It was. They just burned a pick. Like, is not good. They're not good at drafting. It's pretty obvious how their franchise is like, awful every year. They're just not good at drafting. And this year, I think it was like the biggest example of it.
Derek
He's got to beat out Minshew for backup for even and Jacoby Bursa for time. And so then you look at next year where if they do go quarterback, you're bringing in a Carson Beck to be his backup dude.
Ryan
And he's not like a locker room person either.
Coop
He's.
Ryan
That's what blows.
Coop
He's what. He's what people think Kyler is.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt
Yeah, he's. He definitely seems like a.
Ryan
He's a problem, bro. Like week six or seven, he's blaming the wide receiver for running the wrong route and losing the game.
Matt
Yeah.
Ryan
You see as Lamborghini getting stolen in Miami.
Coop
Nobody likes him.
Ryan
Right.
Coop
You know, that's just word of mouth.
Matt
I was going to say Draft day. Nobody went to his birthday party. Like, why. Why is nobody going to his birthday?
Coop
It.
Derek
That tracks.
Ryan
Why you like Beck.
Derek
Matt said he likes you.
Ryan
Like his Snapchat.
Matt
Yeah, he likes to snap. Like, let me suck on him. Whatever.
Coop
It's. It's a bad pick and they're a bad franchise. And if you expect them to be good in the next three to four years, they're still gonna be the Cardinals and I'm gonna be right. It's not even because I'm right. It's because it's just facts. Like, they're not gonna be good in three more years. Like, they're always bad. So it's not like that. That's a bad pick because it's just.
Matt
You're in a tough division. Too. Yeah.
Coop
Yeah.
Matt
You're kind of fucked.
Coop
Yeah. It's like six auto Ls every year. But that doesn't even matter. Like you got to show some fight.
Matt
I feel like the Ty Simpson to the Rams is like a ballsy pick. But it's. If you think about it, it's like Jordan love to the Packers.
Derek
Yeah.
Coop
Even if that doesn't work out though, like the Rams and the Niners. The Seahawks always draft well. The Rams and the Niners, they draft well too. They can fuck up a pick that would cost anybody else like three years.
Derek
They'll make it up and it.
Coop
They're just like, good. It doesn't matter. Like Trey Lansing is so good. Trey Lance didn't slow down the Niners. Like they got pretty late. Whatever. The Rams didn't have a first round pick for like six straight years and want to super like it does not matter. Those teams can afford to kind of reach or fuck up Super Bowl.
Derek
Sam Darnold.
Coop
Yeah. Seattle. Like, and they. And they draft good. The Cardinals can't afford to like take a risk. And even when they take the sure thing. Isaiah Simmons, he's bus city. So it's like there is no hope. There's really no hope.
Ryan
There's always hope, man. No, you got hope.
Coop
You saw my hope before the season. I thought we were gonna be good.
Matt
There's hope in the Dallas Stars, brother.
Coop
No, there's not. We're down three, two.
Ryan
This is we. Coop and Ryan were talking the other day and Ryan brought up some Rangers game. Coops has season's over. It's. Or maybe he's talking with Matt and they're 14 and 14. It's April.
Coop
I was telling Ryan. It's so funny. I mean 2023 was great. Like they won the World Series. Awesome. I can't even complain. But since 2015 they've been asked besides 2023. And I just get. I looks. I look forward to baseball season every year and then the Rangers just rage. Bait me all summer.
Ryan
You got a World Series.
Coop
It worth it.
Derek
But.
Matt
But he. That's not going to stop him from bitching about this.
Coop
Yeah, I mean I got like, I got a. I'm invested. I watch every game.
Ryan
It's really.
Coop
Or at least keep up with her. Every game that I.
Ryan
It's like fever pitch.
Derek
Yeah.
Ryan
He's Jimmy Fallon.
Derek
He's Jimmy Fallon.
Coop
I haven't seen that.
Ryan
He's a die hard Boston Red Sox fan. Like his whole life revolves around it. Doesn't miss a home game.
Derek
Yeah, it's A weird movie.
Coop
I like. I love the Rangers.
Matt
But do you love the Rangers more or.
Coop
Rangers. Those are my favorite team.
Matt
Like over the Cardinals.
Coop
Yeah, Rangers are my favorite overall team. Probably. Rangers. Cardinals.
Matt
What about Mavs?
Coop
I. I used to like the maps. I used to like the Mavs more. I used to like basketball more.
Matt
I just kind of since Doncic went to la.
Coop
The Luca.
Ryan
Well, yeah, I know made the right play. I know Coop, but no, they didn't
Coop
make the right play. They lucked into a good play after making the wrong play. The Mavs. I. I followed the Mavs because I followed Luca and I only followed the Mavs. I. The NBA. I just. I can't. I can't follow the. I don't like the NBA and now that like the Mavs up. I really don't. I have not really watch playoff game of the NBA yet.
Derek
I've only watched the playoffs. There's been some good ones. I mean it's nice to see. I used to watch them be good.
Coop
Yeah. And they're. They're struggling. Yeah. But they're. Yeah, they're down three one now three two.
Derek
I feel you just oozing negativity right now.
Ryan
He does want his team to win. I think he might enjoy this part.
Coop
There's something fun about watching your team be ass and just raging.
Derek
Such a crazy.
Coop
For sure. It's an art.
Matt
Even. I feel like even when your team. Even when your team's good, you'd be like, nah, bro, we. We're about.
Derek
We're gonna 100, dude.
Coop
Let me consume my team.
Derek
So he's like, they're gonna drop the trophy.
Coop
It's.
Derek
It's. Yeah, it doesn't matter.
Coop
The Cardinals are not gonna win the Super Bowl.
Ryan
If they did, would you be happy or.
Coop
Yeah, I'd be happy. I was a cloud die when the Rangers won the World Series.
Matt
Oh, you probably couldn't tell you anything.
Coop
No, I was up till 2am buying merch.
Matt
Was that. Was that the fall right before you got here?
Coop
Yeah. 20, 2023. I was in Atlanta.
Matt
Damn. So we could. We couldn't even experience. I know World Series.
Derek
I know I did.
Ryan
I really can't like pro. If we. I'm telling you, if South Carolina was when the national championship it would be raps.
Matt
I feel like you would just have to retire.
Derek
Yeah.
Ryan
I'm going on tour and there's nobody even trying to come see me. I'd just be going around everywhere.
Derek
Would you go to South Carolina for the. The game or to the national championship game to Watch. I always talk about that. Like, I don't even know if the Steelers win a Super Bowl. I'd rather be in Pittsburgh than the super bowl, is what I've always said.
Ryan
That's a nasty game.
Matt
Would you go to Williams Bryce to watch the game, or would you go to Arizona to watch?
Ryan
Dude, that's a great question. I think off rip, I'm saying Arizona like to go watch the game, but, man, I would want to do everything I could to get back in time for when that team gets there. Because when, just to give you a little glimpse, when South Carolina went to our Final Four run in basketball, we played in Greenville and we beat Duke. And I was at the game in Greenville. It was the last game of that session. So it ends at like 10 or 11 o'.
Coop
Clock.
Ryan
Drive back down to Columbia and, like, just beat the buses. And I'm there when the players get off the bus and we're dapping everyone up and I'm like, that part was almost even better than the game. But going on tour, I gotta be everywhere once we win.
Coop
That's a good point. I wasn't at the game, obviously, when the Rangers won, but I was in Atlanta like a Buffalo Wild Wings with some of my, like, intern friends there. There was nowhere else I would rather been than, like, back home in Texas.
Derek
Yeah.
Coop
Because that's my childhood team.
Derek
Yeah, man.
Coop
Like, that's the one I had invested the most in my whole life. And as soon as I fucking move away, they win the World Series, which is great. Easy trade.
Ryan
But Derek, who. Which pick were you most excited about?
Derek
Jennings Dunker. Not even close for me. And it's. I rewatched the blog, the Vlog, and I was like, all right, I didn't look too stupid, but I definitely look stupid. But I was like, I didn't look too. I don't hate Max. It's just. It felt very panicky. We didn't bring him in. There's a high school buddy of mine's the number one beat writer for the Steelers, and his whole thing is we always bring in or go to their pro day. He just was complete left field from what I wanted. Jennings dunker, though. I had him graded really high as a guard. He's a tackle that started swinging in, was great. We now have the most solidified offensive line that I think we've had since our super bowl runs of just, like, in, like, Zach Frazier. I think he's. It's him or Creed Humphrey. Best center Mason McCormick was like, a fourth or fifth rounder at South Dakota he's a neck roll. Love that. And now we got dunker in there too with like a red just mullet from God. And I'm like those three meaty hogs are my three favorite. I might try to get a trifecta jersey. Yeah. But I was a big fan. Jeremy Bernard is a really good pick.
Ryan
Dude, that's a underrated.
Derek
Very excited.
Coop
You like the Drew Aller project pick.
Derek
It's tough for me because my perspective on the Drew Aller pick is obviously different than what your perspective for Carson Beck. Like even if they were flipped or whatever because we're still holding out hope and we had the unrestricted fridge and for Rogers. Rogers still is the best player to play quarterback for us since Ben and if he played this year would still be there. My thing with Drew Aller is the city of Pittsburgh needs to understand that as cool as Will Howard is and he won a natty. He's a six round pick. We don't have a lot invested in him. I think Drew Aller, if he comes out last season, he's a first round pick and there's no questions asked.
Coop
Definitely more talented than Drew Aller is.
Matt
Definitely better than Will Howard.
Coop
Yeah.
Public Investing Ad Speaker
Yeah.
Derek
Easily across the board. The city of Pittsburgh is just so tired of not having a guy. They'll force Will Howard to be the guy in their heads. I liked it for the sense of like the one of the two of them is probably going to be my starter next year and then unless we go in the first and draft someone next year. But that's. That's an interesting one. I liked the Drew Aller pick. If I can delete this season of Penn State football from my memory.
Ryan
I know it's hard, man. He missed a lot.
Coop
He didn't get hurt.
Derek
Did get hurt, but it did get hurt. The James Franklin saga, their skill position, players not being great, them just kind of being dog water as a team and like a punching bag up in Pennsylvania and then we draft the guy. I just keep watching his tape from two years ago and be like, no, dude, this is a six five, huge arm with some accuracy issues. Who is just our best quarterback on the roster right now aside from Mason. But I still think he's better.
Matt
The the only because I'm friends with so many Penn State fans. The only issue with Drew Aller is accuracy.
Derek
Yes.
Matt
But like that was the same thing with not comparing him to Josh Allen. But like you, you. That's all mechanics. You work on mechanics. You fix it, you fix that stuff.
Derek
Yeah.
Ryan
I want to know what he's like up here. Because that's. I know in his Penn State career, it was always a knock on, like they did. They never did win the big game.
Matt
Yeah.
Ryan
How much of that is on him? Who knows? Because James Franklin, he never went to knock on him.
Coop
Yeah.
Matt
I haven't heard like anything from anybody like that. Like, ran into Drew Aller and said like, oh, he's a douchebag kind of thing. I haven't heard any of that. So I'm not sure.
Ryan
I just want to know if he believes in himself. Like in the, in the fourth quarter of a game like this, he really think I can make any throw on
Matt
this field right now.
Derek
I think being a James Franklin kid breeds that within you. And it is so like my next sentence for that is, and they're always wrong, but it breeds the self confidence of it that like, no, we're the best and we're going to do this because I know that's how Penn State fans are. Right. I know that's how. Obviously he's different, but Barkley felt. I know that's how some of these guys that have always been the face of it, really. Even back to like Christian Hackenberg, like, Hackenberg thought he was the guy and it sucked. Yeah. He wasn't great at football. But I, I, I like Drew Aller being a Pittsburgh Steeler. It's good for the city. It's nice to have you even brought up. And I know they kind of said it wasn't a thing, but like him and Will Howard knowing each other, I think it's going to be awesome.
Matt
I had some dude in the comments were like, Drew or yeah, Drew Ellers from Ohio. Get it right, dipshit. I'm like, I don't fucking care about where Drew out.
Derek
You also didn't even, you said where Will Howard was from. He didn't even say, I don't think where Drew is from. But regardless.
Matt
No, Drew Allers from Ohio.
Derek
Yeah.
Matt
Will Howard's from Downingtown, Pennsylvania.
Derek
Yes. You had said Howard was from pa. And I was like, yeah, I didn't even see.
Matt
I don't, I don't like. But the more like they're. If you're in Pennsylvania, the number one school you want to go to is Penn State.
Derek
Yes.
Matt
Like, that is, that's very well known. I'm sure the same thing in South Carolina. You want to go to South Carolina? Like, it's. Or Clemson, but Clemson, bro.
Ryan
South Carolina or Coastal.
Derek
What did in Oklahoma?
Coop
You want to go to Oklahoma State?
Derek
What'd you think of the Chiefs draft? Because I graded you guys really high.
Matt
I, I, I think this is a hot take. I hate the Mansoor Delane pick.
Derek
Okay.
Matt
I don't like that at all. I don't know who Peter woods is. We named our another, our third round pick.
Ryan
His first name is R man, Clemson.
Matt
I, I actually now like not saying I me not saying I didn't know who Peter woods is. Like, I know who he is, but like don't know enough about him.
Ryan
Yeah.
Matt
I think drafting Gary Nussmeier, bold, bold pick.
Ryan
I think people are a little bit wrong on Garrett Nussmeier.
Matt
I got a sour taste strictly because of Josh Payton. Yeah.
Derek
He kind of ruined him for us.
Ryan
And what, what I know we had it in a group.
Matt
He's like, hey, Gary.
Derek
Because it was Mustnard Clemson club Nick. Right.
Matt
Yeah. They were like, hey, LSU or no, was LSU going to the bed or LSU gonna.
Derek
LSU was gonna shit the bed because an injury for Nussmar.
Matt
Yeah.
Derek
I come out or something of that.
Ryan
No.
Coop
Before the season.
Matt
But then I remember that didn't LSU win?
Ryan
They did 14 to 7, I think.
Derek
Oh, yeah.
Matt
Oh, wait. So I should, I should be on Garrett's side.
Ryan
Yeah.
Derek
I might be saying, Rod, there was something where LSU won and we were told not to pick lsu. Yes.
Ryan
Yeah. And dude, I think that injury was legit. And dude, Nussmeier last year, like not as fast as the season before. He's dialed.
Matt
He's got some to him.
Coop
Yeah.
Derek
Right.
Matt
I mean, we have obviously Mahomes, Justin Fields. I don't know. I don't know who the third guy is. If we have somebody else. And then we have Garrett Nussmeier, like, I feel like he will be. It's kind of sucks to say him way too early to say, like a perennial backup. He could be like an Orlovsky kind of. He'll be a backup for a long time.
Coop
He very clearly could be all his new Chad Henny.
Matt
Yeah.
Derek
Seventh is so nice. Noseball. Oh, you got Ola.
Matt
Duken sucks. We can get rid of him and get. We'll keep Garrett, but
Derek
I like that man. Sword took over for Trent. I think Peter woods is a grinder. That'll be nice to Chris Jones and our Mason Thomas. Or our Thomas Mason. Whichever one it is, I love him.
Matt
Sneaky. Pick two. Emma Johnson.
Ryan
Yeah, that is a good With Kenneth
Matt
Walker and now Emma Johnson. Like I got a squad kind of fuck with that. The only thing I'm bummed that we didn't get and I wanted was a tight end to like for to be under Trav. He was like young athletic that Trav could then teach.
Ryan
They got Rob Ton Jr. Man, I
Matt
know and I bro, I want Rob to be. I know the man. But I really wanted Michael Trigg. But then I'm. I'm hearing stuff that like he's a locker room.
Coop
Where's he from?
Matt
He's from Baylor.
Coop
Baylor.
Kalpen (Kal Penn)
Yeah.
Derek
Cowboys signed him as a udfa.
Matt
But like I'm hearing that he's like a locker room cancer. Like or hearing reading. But like he has all of the. Like he's a big body.
Derek
Right.
Matt
Athletic. But it. And I feel like Trav can. I think it's so fine. I'm just calling travel. He wished me happy birthday so I can do it. Trav can like Trav, do you remember that draft comment? Drive can be like, hey, shut the up. He can put him in his place.
Sean Duffy
Yeah.
Ryan
You're going to listen to Travis Kelsey
Matt
and he's OG enough to where like, I mean, who he's not going to listen like per se to like Jake Ferguson or Dalton or not even Dalton Schultz asap.
Ryan
Ferg, though, he do. He does have some sauce.
Matt
Yeah, he does. But I like, I did want to solidify that. That tight end position because this is. We. We all know this is Travis's last year. Yeah. So, yeah.
Ryan
Only thing I have on the draft because I don't really have a full on NFL team. I just follow my Gamecocks. Jalen Kilgore, crazy. I have no idea. And I know I'm biased, but I have no idea how he fell into the fifth round.
Matt
Where'd he go?
Ryan
Buffalo. And he's the steal of the draft. He's the steal of the draft. Dude. He had a top five performance at the combine. All of his numbers are almost identical to Nicki Minwari. He's just like a tad bit less athletic, but comes from the same exact system where they pretty much leave these guys on an island on our defense and tell them, go make plays, trust your instincts and coach them up that way. And like, that's the NFL. Like, you have to be able to play like that. And our defensive system has bred some really good defensive players to the NFL recently. And the fact that he's in the fifth round. I know the GM called him and was like, hey, I can't believe you're still here. Thank God you're still here. Like, let's get to work. And bro, Kilgore's family, his dad is a legend. James Kilgore, senior veteran of the US army, possibly a Marine. One of the best Twitter followers of all time. The most wholesome Twitter follow of all time. After every loss, he's just tweeting out. The work is the only thing that matters. Head forward, feet forward, all this stuff. Yeah. Zero issues in the locker room. I couldn't believe he fell to the fifth round, but I can't wait for him to just light the NFL up.
Matt
Is he the only guy? No.
Ryan
So we actually had Nick Barrett. He got drafted before Jalen Kilgore. He's a D lineman. The Chargers picked him and then some
Derek
guy signed after your boy Sisa went to the Packers.
Ryan
Oh yeah. Second round. He's gonna be.
Matt
Oh yes, yes.
Ryan
He's gonna be nice to the Packers.
Derek
Second round, I think.
Ryan
Yeah. First or second pick of the second round.
Matt
I feel like he was at NC State.
Ryan
Yeah, he's nice.
Matt
Next year is going to be a big draft for South Carolina.
Ryan
Oh yeah, man. If Sellers has this year we could have like low key three first rounds.
Matt
Nick harbor, you could have. You could possibly eligible next year.
Ryan
Stuart.
Coop
Yeah, I don't know. I can.
Matt
You could have two top five picks.
Ryan
I know, bro.
Matt
When Dylan in. Dylan Stewart and Lenora Sellers.
Ryan
Yeah, golly. We have got to go to the playoffs. That would be a South Carolina thing. Like have two top five picks and not go goats to playoff.
Matt
How long we been going 42?
Ryan
This has been shout out Mariano Rivera or was he 44?
Matt
No, you're right, you're right.
Coop
Hey, he was the last one I think that could wear 42 before they retired it league wide. Little fun baseball nugget for you.
Derek
Last thing I do want to say is some guy commented saying that Roderick Jones is our best lineman. What a phony. Somebody commented and said we should go to grist house instead of Cinderlins. What a phony. And someone commented and said why would you take them to Randy's and Randyland Rips just to set the stage there. It rips just a house.
Matt
I watched the vlog. I'm like, like this place is so fucking weird but it's like I need to go check it out.
Ryan
Exactly. Yeah. That place look right down the street from a lemonade stand too.
Derek
Oh yeah. Yeah. That's all I did get that off my chest to you guys pissing me off.
Matt
Yeah. It's kind of like when I got shit for taking everybody to gyms for cheesesteaks. It's like who are you?
Ryan
Cheesesteak was good too.
Matt
Yeah, like you go to you talk to ten different people, you're gonna hear seven different spots.
Ryan
Right?
Matt
It's like there's no winning. There's no satisfying everybody.
Ryan
Yeah. Especially Philly.
Matt
Yeah. I mean, that's why I'm from there. That's my people. Shout out the flyers.
Ryan
But yeah.
Matt
Who wants to sign us out?
Ryan

Derek
That is.
Coop
It's 3 2. But they were up 3 0. LeBron.
Ryan
Happens all the time, man.
Coop
Thanks for tuning in, y'.
