Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
If you can just stop. Whether you're at a stoplight, whether you're a few cars back at a stop sign, or maybe you just want to pull over. Sherm
I would love to say what happened. I owe an apology to Will Compton.
Ryan Seacrest
And for people listening and watching. A big deal did just go down.
Sherm
Like a huge deal.
Ryan Seacrest
A deal where it's like, I don't know how to react right now because we still have to record our show and we have to bring the juice, and I have to bring the juice, and we have to be optimistic.
Sherm
Yes, dude.
Ryan Seacrest
Because you're my. You're my mate, dude.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
You're my teammate in the squadron.
Sherm
I'm in the foxhole with you.
Ryan Seacrest
You're in the foxhole with me, bro.
Sherm
Quite literally. And you said.
Ryan Seacrest
And to be in the foxhole with somebody, you got to know that the guy you're in the foxhole with has your back, has every angle covered. If that's their role. And I pat you on the back and you shit in my hand.
Sherm
Yeah. Maybe you patted me on the back a little too much, but I haven't.
Ryan Seacrest
We did the performance reviews last week.
Sherm
I know. And that went well.
Ryan Seacrest
We talked about details and we talked.
Sherm
About structure and we talked about my.
Ryan Seacrest
Weakest point, the fine details and having it written down.
Sherm
Having it written down. But this was something that doesn't need to be written down.
Ryan Seacrest
This is something that does not need to be written down.
Sherm
It's right up there with breathing in the production world, I would say. Or drinking enough water.
Ryan Seacrest
Papa Team 6, moms, dads, SE and Team 6, seed Team 6 need to know, as they're listening to this. I'm very frustrated.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
I need to talk about my feelings. It makes me angry.
Sherm
I think this is to feel alone.
Ryan Seacrest
When you do behaviors like that.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Tell them.
Sherm
Well, first off, would love to create a safe space for Will to continue to get this off his chest, because I feel like that's the best way to deal with it, to dive right in. I forgot to hit the record button on both audio and video.
Ryan Seacrest
We were recording for how long? Chef. Chef has a mic, by the way. Chef, who is the leader of Semen Team six at the moment. He has a mic now, being able to chime in so you don't have to hear him from far away.
Sherm
We were going about 45 minutes, actually.
Ryan Seacrest
Great job of keeping it under an hour.
Sherm
We were just about to keep it under an hour. It was potentially maybe the first time ever we were on the lesson 45. The episode was almost done. Will was getting into his lesson. I look over at the audio in the video, and I see no red light like I do now to where it's rolling.
Ryan Seacrest
We recorded for 45 minutes, and it was so much fun, and it was going so well. And Sherm stands up, and he's, like, grinning at Chef, like, pointing down at the little. What's that called?
Sherm
Zoom recorder.
Ryan Seacrest
Little zoom recorder. I look over Sherman like, what's up? And he's like, I didn't hit record. So I'm like, so we didn't get anything that we just. The last 45 minutes, nothing.
Sherm
Nothing. He's chalked up to the wind.
Ryan Seacrest
He's like, I'm so sorry. If I can add.
Sherm
It was dead silent for maybe five minutes. Yeah. No one spoke. That's a long time around here, too, because we got a lot of talkers, especially in this room, because it's Friday right now.
Ryan Seacrest
It's pizza Friday. Vibes are supposed to be up.
Sherm
Y' all are watching all this shit.
Ryan Seacrest
That goes down in the shop. This is the safe space. This is. This is the space that it's like, get to go have some fun. Get to go have some fun with my boy.
Sherm
With your boy that let you down. I'm the one that's.
Ryan Seacrest
I get. We get. We play video games, but don't get to see all week. You're. You're. You're a bright light.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
In the shop.
Sherm
Yeah. And I just came in. I shit in your hand, quite literally.
Ryan Seacrest
And I'm stuck because I'm like, I have to accept this and get over it as fast as possible because we still have to record for the dads.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Still have to have fun.
Sherm
Yes.
Ryan Seacrest
We said we still have to tell people to subscribe. We still have to read reread all the great comments we loved in the comments section about Papa Team 6 because Papa Team 6 is growing and we.
Sherm
Got told the same story again. But that's okay because they're, they're really good stories and I would love to hear it again and just say shout out. This is not getting points from Will. You have recovered very well. You 10 minutes ago is a different you right now. You, you've recovered.
Ryan Seacrest
How do you tense.
Sherm
How do you feel on a scale of 1 to 10?
Ryan Seacrest
I don't know, dude. You look like a feel in what way? Like we talking like good mood.
Sherm
Well, no, just able to go because you look like a seven. Like a high seven right now.
Ryan Seacrest
Good.
Sherm
I believe it.
Ryan Seacrest
Hey, he didn't hit record. Good.
Sherm
The guy that you put a ton of trust in to make sure everything operates and he failed you.
Ryan Seacrest
Good.
Sherm
Good.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, hey, Papa Sherman, who said he was going to show up at 8:30 and get with Chef to go over details and structure and line out a process of the show so there's no mishaps. Sherm didn't show up at 8:30.
Sherm
What time do you show up?
Ryan Seacrest
I don't know what time he showed up.
Sherm
It was like 9, 10.
Ryan Seacrest
Guess what? Your boy doesn't show up. Good. Instead he sends you a picture of a raccoon in a cage on his roof saying, victory. Good, good. He's trying to weasel way out of why he was. I, I, I, I texted Sher back when he sent me that I was like, great creative way of letting me know that you're not here at the shop by the time you said you'd be at the shop.
Sherm
True. Worst part of that is I didn't even know what time it was to which I replied to your text. Fuck yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Vibes are up, man.
Sherm
Vibes are still up.
Ryan Seacrest
Vibes are still up.
Sherm
God. Do you want to get into comments?
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, let's read some comments. Because I tell you what, I love what we got brewing with Papa Team 6. We Got Moms giving out their names were here in over ops. Chef, you're going to have to read those again. You're going to have to give the same shout outs. I can do that.
Sherm
That's true. That's true.
Ryan Seacrest
The gal in the comment section of our Instagram the at for the dad's pod when we dropped the Papa Team Six, I want you. And she's like, I got. I got female team names. Loading. Check your DMs. We have some good stuff. We have some Natalie from Southeast Missouri leaving comments on what. What the Delta Force, what moms could be called there. We have some good humor. We have people buying in, leaving comments, supporting the cause.
Sherm
Yes.
Ryan Seacrest
And we want to deliver them a fun. A good. Good episode.
Sherm
A good episode. A fun episode. But pt6 is firing off in the comments. I'll start. We had our good friend, and you're.
Ryan Seacrest
Wearing a tuxedo.
Sherm
But, you know, I.
Ryan Seacrest
Get a 007 episode. I love it. I'm like, let Sherm be Sherm. He texted me. He's like, hey, we should wear tuxes. I didn't respond to him. I knew Sherm would show up in tux. I love it, dude. I love it. But late to the shop today, got his tux and didn't hit record. And it's just like, buddy, There's Papa Team 6 is questioning being in this unit right now. Yeah. Before this even happened, before this even happened, the whole. Yeah. You didn't sleep on couches. You didn't earn your stripes the right way.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Now you're dropping the bag with the show.
Sherm
The comments are going to be crazy. And we love that pt6 will be in the comments.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Holding me accountable.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. If we can get some pt6. Just support in the comments.
Sherm
Yeah, dude. Yeah, I will.
Ryan Seacrest
He hate to see you like this. I know he sucks, but keep your head up.
Sherm
Willie, you're a good boss. You didn't lose it on him. Way to go. He dapped me up. I said, I just need to dap up before we hit record. And you were kind enough for that.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
We hugged it out.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Yeah.
Sherm
But yeah. Morgan Linton 5275. He said, Sherman, you look great in your tux, but you know what? You look better in a Papa Team 6 shirt. What he really commented was successful seed team 6 member joining Papa Team 6 in October and need a Papa Team 6 shirt for my walkout hospital photo shoot. Which for dads out there, that's a. That's a big trend right now is when you're walking out of the hospital, you're holding the doona or whatever the baby carrier is. It's like, from the back, it's kind of dramatic. It's cool. Yeah, it's a great. I have an insta post for who sent the comment. That was Morgan Linton 5.
Ryan Seacrest
Morgan, number one. First off, congratulations on having A kiddo. Second thing. Your prayers are getting answered, brother. We have our First Papa Team 6 shirt dropping. You're listening to this or watching this right now on Wednesday. The shirt drops tomorrow on Thursday. Our first and only right now, Papa Team 6 shirt dropping. If you're not watching, we're going to have the graphic up so you can see it. But if you're just listening to us, this shirt is incredible.
Sherm
It is.
Ryan Seacrest
You got a bear, a military bear. Papa Team 6 sitting there on a cooler that's labeled the details. BWTB cooler busting with the boys sitting there, military gear on, bottle hanging in the front of his carrier. Pacifier in left hand, coffee in the right hand. On high alert. He's got the tongs hanging out the back, tongs hanging out the back like a neat Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. He's got a grill smoking behind him, American flag behind him. Yes. Military helmet on, shades on and a cigar in his mouth. And guys, it's a strong shirt. Strong first shirt.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
It says at the top, mission, contain the chaos. Papa Team 6. And on the bottom, underneath his boots says Special Ops Dad Division. Oh, I love that. Dad division. But this right here, there will be. There will be better shirts. This one's awesome. Yeah, I'm just sitting. This is the. This is the standard.
Sherm
Yeah. This is the inception of what will be the PT6 line.
Ryan Seacrest
There's so much potential based on comments, people saying, you should put this in a shirt, that in a shirt. There's so much potential with this brand and the Papa Team 6 Squadron that this right here is our very first shirt that we're going to drop. So if you are fully bought into Papa Team 6, and I know you are. Yeah, I know you are, even seed Team Six members that are going through buds right now, breeding until dad status. This is our first shirt that we are dropping. Urge you, encourage you to get your hands on the first drop. Don't know how many we're making, but bwtb.com that drops tomorrow on Thursday. This is. Picture this. You're down in the jungle. You're running military ops right now. You're on a mission. You need air support. That air support is coming. We are dropping our first care package down below. And in that care package is this first Papa Team 6 shirt. Shop early, shop fast, shop often. And women, if you're listening or watching this right now and you want to get it for your hubby, you're going to have to send them the link and make it as simple as possible for them or Maybe you just buy it for them.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah. And we made it very easy for the dads at home. It's just four letters. B, W, T, B.
Ryan Seacrest
Four letters, dot com. Four letters.
Sherm
And as we said earlier on the show, this is a way of baptizing yourself into the PT6. Fatherhood.
Ryan Seacrest
Baptizing yourself into the PT6. What'd you say?
Sherm
Fatherhood.
Ryan Seacrest
PT6. Fatherhood.
Sherm
Yes.
Ryan Seacrest
Did you catch the BUDS acronym?
Sherm
I love the BUDS acronym. I actually wrote it down. I loved it so much.
Ryan Seacrest
Budding Seed Team 6. The soldiers that are in Seed Team 6 in Bud's training to become a father. Buds stands for breeding until dad status. I love it, dude. I love it.
Sherm
I. I love it.
Ryan Seacrest
God, we have so much fun on this show.
Sherm
I know. I know.
Ryan Seacrest
I love you so much.
Sherm
I do love you.
Ryan Seacrest
I have so much fun working with you.
Sherm
I have fun working with. This is a really fun opportunity that I am lucky to have.
Ryan Seacrest
If you're new tuning in to for the dads, and you're wondering what's. What's all this Papa, Papa Team 6 that people are talking about? Number one in the comments to all Papa Team 6 members, be welcoming to new members. Put your boys on. Put your boys on. Ladies, if you're watching, put your hubby on. Put your man on this stuff. There's semen Team Six. That is what. That's what your solo dolo again, Chef Jack. He's part of Semen Team six right now. If you're. If you're married, you're seeking to have a kid, you are now part of Seed Team six. You're dropping seed. You're dropping bombs.
Sherm
Bombs over Baghdad.
Ryan Seacrest
Bombs over Baghdad. Into the ovary operations, right? Yeah.
Sherm
Yeah, that's right.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. And then until. And then you'll be. You will be accomplishing Bud's training. That's breeding until dad status. And when that dad status hits, that's when you're part of Papa Team 6.
Sherm
Because guess what? Papa Team 6 wants you.
Ryan Seacrest
Papa Team 6 wants you. This is a show that embraces fatherhood. The highs and lows, the sucks, the love, everything in between the fun moments, the bad moments, the moments where you're in the foxhole with your boy and he let you down, and you just got to talk it out. This is that show. This is that.
Sherm
This is that show.
Ryan Seacrest
So welcome to for the Dads.
Sherm
Yes, welcome to for the dads. Also remember 601, the dads. If you want to call in, drop us a line. Ask Will or myself a question. Tell us a Funny story. Maybe you have a dad hack or a survival kit that you want to share. And if for our international listeners we had Nathan here, I'll grab this little.
Ryan Seacrest
Aussie flag that we made Nathan so much. Please tell me we're just going to run a call from him. I hope so we can listen to his voice.
Sherm
I wish for the Nathan is really the only thing that could fix this situation at this point. If we had calling from Nathan to.
Ryan Seacrest
Empathize with you and give me a pick me up in support. Dude, he has a call.
Sherm
He would juice us so much. I kind of almost just want to call him right now. We have his number or. No we don't because he emailed. He's an international listener. So anybody that's abroad, you can email 601thedadsgmail.com with your call in international callers. 601thedadsgmail.com yes.
Ryan Seacrest
And the high line gets active later in this episode. At the top, we usually obviously tell stories. We talk about dad losses. We talk about moments. We crack a cold one too.
Sherm
Yep.
Ryan Seacrest
What are the odds? What's another segment? We got a lesson or a quote or a topic of the day that we come across and we might be leaning into to help just better ourselves as fathers because we go through a lot of tough moments which we'll be getting into with some of the dad losses.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah. And also survival, kid, dad hack we kind of go through. Again, not experts. I know we said that at the top.
Ryan Seacrest
Not experts.
Sherm
Not experts. But we do. We try and put some people on game.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
We try to help the dads out there.
Ryan Seacrest
Full episode. Full episode day. We're keeping under an hour.
Sherm
We're going to keep it under an hour. You want me to kick off dad loss?
Ryan Seacrest
Please.
Sherm
All right.
Ryan Seacrest
So you going to include this in the loss?
Sherm
Yeah, I definitely can. So dad losses. This week one, I took Scarlett on a walk with my mom. She's in town. Shout out Miss Amy. She's helping us out with Scarlet. She's in town right after Jill's mom, my mother in law, Lisa. Shout out Lisa.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Was in town for a week as well. Ms. Amy loves her nighttime walks and all she wanted to do was take her newborn granddaughter on a walk. Jill was a little hesitant. She didn't know if it was smart because of the temperature.
Ryan Seacrest
Little hot outside.
Sherm
It's a little hot outside. Was down, son was down. And I talked Jill down. I said, hey, it's okay. It'll be a short walk. Huge dad loss. She had the onesie on long sleeves covering her hands, her feet. So by the time that we got home, she truly felt like a hot potato. And for like a newborn or a dad to a newborn, I have no idea what's going on. When I'm feeling her temperature that hot and she's screaming like I've never heard her scream before. And it just shoots, like shockwaves of anxiety, worry, guilt. As you're watching her cry, it feels so painful, and it really does, especially when you're. I knew for a fact that it was my fault. Very similarly to me forgetting to hit the record button, but unlike me forgetting to hit the record button and being able to communicate with Will and us, work through it, all she can do is cry.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And so you're like.
Ryan Seacrest
Because you're just. You're holding them close, you're apologizing.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Maybe you're testing them a little bit. Hey, you're crying a little too hard here. Like, you gotta toughen up at some point. All you do is eat, sleep, and every day.
Sherm
Yeah. Get together. What are we doing?
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, let's create some thick skin. Like, if I'm being. Hey, you know what? You step out of the room. If I'm being honest with you, you're kind of being a little. Right now. It was what you're kind of being soft and lazy. You don't do nothing throughout the day. You can't go on a little brisk walk and get a little sweat going.
Sherm
It was 81 degrees outside. You know. You know where Dada is from? Dada's is from Texas, where it's 108 degrees outside.
Ryan Seacrest
We don't cry over Tennessee heat here. I'll take you down to Texas. I'll give you something to cry about.
Sherm
Oh, the humidity. The humidity. It's good for your skin.
Ryan Seacrest
What is she, two weeks?
Sherm
Three. Two weeks. Two weeks, yeah. Two weeks and just cooking in Miss Amy's arms. And we didn't. We didn't realize it until you get home. And Jill said I was beating myself up, like, really bad. I was pissed off at myself and just kind of, like, getting quiet, not shutting down fully, but just, like, started piddling around the house to distract myself.
Ryan Seacrest
You had so much anxiety on the first recording we did before this episode, when we were recording the other episode, you had so much anxiety that you wanted to go to the emergency room.
Sherm
I did. No, I truly, in my head, I.
Ryan Seacrest
Didn'T go to the hospital.
Sherm
I was like, we got to go to the hospital. And this was before I woke Up Jill, she's a nurse rn, so she was able to, you know, take care of the situation very quickly. It was like, oh, just take off her onesie and go into the coldest room in our house and stand next to the ac, man. She'll be fine. Like, she's going to be great. In my head right now, oh, yeah. I was wanting to do the thermometer, which. That's a whole thing because it's a anal thermometer at their age. And I'm thinking in my head, oh, my gosh, Jill's going to be pissed off at me now. We got to do this. We got to put this thing up her bum. She's going to be. Scarlett's going to be pissed. It's going to be in my mom's here. Hey, Mom. I'm a great dad. I just, you know, cooked my newborn child in the sun. But it all worked out. At the end of the day, everything was fine. And Jill said we learned best from our losses.
Ryan Seacrest
Love her composure in that moment.
Sherm
Yes. Similar to yours. Similar to yours.
Ryan Seacrest
Don't do that, Sherm. Don't do that, Papa Sherm, come on. My dad loss is going to be. I'm just laughing because we're just retelling. My dad loss is going to be Losing a verbal negotiation with your toddler. I lost a verbal battle with Rue. We usually eat dinner around 6, 6:30 at night on this given day. It was a couple days ago. It's around 6:30. She did a great job. I was saying it on last week's episode. Trying to get more protein going. Found these chicken nuggets. She loves the chicken nuggets. Loves the chicken nuggets.
Sherm
Don't blame her.
Ryan Seacrest
Add some broccoli. That'll be more of a crack, a cold one situation. Because I, I found a couple good little. I found a nice little move when trying to get your toddler to eat vegetables. She eats her dinner. It's around 7 o'. Clock. That's where we go upstairs to get Scotty ready for bedtime. Start to prep Ru. Like, it's time to calm down. No, we can't watch tv. No. You know, can't do this. Or like, just. It's time to start relaxing a little bit so we can get you upstairs, get you in your pajamas and start doing the bedtime routine. Rue wanted to go to the playground, which is new. Usually. It's not like if we hit the playground, we usually hit the playground. Like when I get home, we all go as a family and hit the Playground. Everybody's out, especially on the nice days. It's been hot as recently, so we haven't in the playground much. Or she'll go to the playground with the nanny, like in the morning. She had already been on the playground that day, but for whatever reason, the playground was on her mind. She wanted to go to the playground. It's 7 o' clock at night. It's 7:06. It's 7:06 and I'm sitting there. It's been a long day. We've been. We were at the bus. Not all day, but got home probably around 4:30. 5:00'. Clock.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Hang out with the kiddos. You're playing on the ground. I. Scotty's little nickname right now is Scottzilla, because she goes and terrorizes anything going on. She's like, army crawling everywhere. It's adorable. But anything she sees on the ground, she goes like. It's not. It's not actual playtime until every floor is just pulled off the shelf onto the ground because she just wants to pull everything down. Or she goes into Rue's room and she sees a tray, a railroad train track set up. She just goes right for it and just basically tears it all apart. Like, oh, no. Scottzilla. Scottzilla. She's all the way. Grab her and drag her is real.
Sherm
Loving that too.
Ryan Seacrest
Rue gets upset.
Sherm
Oh, okay.
Ryan Seacrest
God. Those are moments where it's like, hey, Rue, you were like this too.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
You know what I mean? You're trying to tell her, but she gets pretty worked up. Like, Scotty's gonna get. Oh, no. She ru's honestly started calling her Scotzilla.
Sherm
No.
Ryan Seacrest
So Char will be downstairs, say, like, this morning. I'll go upstairs and wake her up. And I'm kind of laying with her bed. We're kind of having some jokes and some smiles. I'm waking her up and everything. Then mom will come up with Scotty. Then we'll have all of us in there. And then, like, she puts Scotty on the ground, and usually Scotty just arm army crawling for the railroad traction. And Rue, like, leans up out of, like, her. Her little bed. Her little bed crib or whatever it is. She's like, oh, no. She's like, oh, no, I don't want Scotzilla. I don't want Scottzilla. I start laughing. I reach and grab Scotty's little leg and just like, drag her back. I'm like, nope. And then she'll, like, drag back, and then she'll just be army crawling Again. Oh, no. Godzilla. But got off track there. Rue wanted to go to the playground.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
You know when you're a parent and it's just like, dude, it's close to bedtime. Like, no, Rue, we're not going to the playground. That's going to take like 30 minutes or 40 minutes by the time we get back. Like, bedtime is coming up, dude.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And you're sitting there as a parent, like, a couple things are happening. Kid starts to break down. You're in this, like, all right, if I fight this war, because that's what it's going to be. I'm essentially going to have to strong arm her vocally or pick her up and take her upstairs, and it's just going to be a battle the whole time because she's going to lose all of her composure. Or do I find this. Do I find this route? Do I find a negotiation tactic that can kind of get her off. Get her off topic, get her off kilter, but she's focused on going to the park. Yeah, that a. Please. I just want to swing. I just want to go to the park. Charl walks by with Scotty, and again, it's 7:06. Charles walks by Scotty as she's gonna go upstairs and sit in the rocker and just easily put the bottle in her mouth and put her to sleep.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
She's got the relaxing mission. She's like, why, you know, why don't you take her to the park? And I'm just like, why would you say that out loud? Like, text that to me.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
So maybe. Yeah, I might think about it. But why would you say that in front of Rue? Because that's just going to confirm. Yeah, the park dead at park. And she's like, we can go fast. Like, we can go quick. I was like, how? All right, now I'm starting to come around. Like, okay, I just need to embrace this moment.
Sherm
Yeah. Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Daughter wants to go to the park. It's only 706. It's only 7 and 10 at this point. Yeah, we can go to the park quick because park's not too far away. I can just embrace this moment, even though I know I don't want to. I just want to go up. I want to have a nice, clean, fun. Bedtime.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
I want to read a couple books and just put her to bed. But I'm now getting on board with going to the park. So I'm like, all right, how many minutes do you want at the park? And she's like, five minutes. All Right. We can go to the park. I give her a few more. I'm like, hey, we can do 10 minutes at the park, but we're leaving after 10 minutes. Do you understand? Yes. We're gonna have a good, clean bedtime fast when we get home. Do you understand? Yeah. All right. Go get your shoes on. We go to the park. And honestly, like a blessing in disguise, we get to the park and you're sitting there like. She's like, daddy, there's no kids there. There's nobody at the park. It's just us. It was awesome. We get out, it's quiet. She's like, why aren't there any kids? You hear the bugs in the background. She's like, why aren't there any kids? And I'm like, oh, everybody's eating dinner or getting ready for bed, like you should be doing right now. But your dad. Dad loves you so much.
Sherm
You got a cool dad.
Ryan Seacrest
You got a cool dad, Papa Team 6 that he wanted to take you to the park and spend some time with you. Push her on the swing timer. It started on my watch, sweetheart, you got about six minutes left. What else do you want to do? We hit the slide. She goes down by how many times you want to go down slide? She's like. She goes down once, and she said, I want you to come with me, Dada. So I'm like, all right, I'll go down the slide three times. You know, low back, trying to take care of it.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Go down the slide three times. Go three. One, two, three. We're flying down, we're having a great time. End up going five times. Ten minutes turns into 15. She doesn't want to leave the park. Knew that was going to come getting her in the swing. I'm like, sweetheart, we have to go. No, I want to blah, blah, sweet up rue. We have to go home. You said 10 minutes. We agreed on that. Dad gave you 15 because dad loves you.
Sherm
Cool dad.
Ryan Seacrest
But now it's time to go. She's starting to, you know. I'm like, sweetheart, we have to go or the monsters are going to come. And for parents out there, just be careful with how you use the word monsters. Because at that point, I turned it into a game. The monsters are going to come when the sun goes down. You gotta race to the car before the monsters get us. The mask, the Grinch, Te Fiti, the bear, all these monsters.
Sherm
Te Fiti.
Ryan Seacrest
Te Fiti is the bad guy in Moana.
Sherm
Oh, no. Is that the Bat Lady?
Ryan Seacrest
That's like the girl she's also like the mountain, the volcano. Yes.
Sherm
Te Fiti.
Ryan Seacrest
That's orange. Te Fiti. Nice. Te Fiti is the green one where she turns good. But those are all of her mortal enemies. The mask, the Michael Myers mask that sits in the closet. Sometimes the monsters come out. So we run in and you know, we get home probably 8 o', clock, a little past 8. Usually I'm hoping to be walking out of a room from bedtime around 8:00 o', clock, 8:15. But we get home at 8. All right, it's bedtime, dude. It takes an hour for me to get her to go to bed. She's just got energy, she's having fun. She's like, dad, I want to read these books. I want to read them by myself. I'm like, all right, you can't read, but go ahead and look at the pictures.
Sherm
Is she saying good night to anything?
Ryan Seacrest
No, she's just like saying, I guess what's on the picture. I don't know what she's saying. Yeah, because I'm trying to get her. I'm going to make it easy for her. Hey, you read the book. I'm going to brush your hair while you're reading. Knock that out instead of doing it.
Sherm
Last pro move.
Ryan Seacrest
I'm going to lay out her. Her pull up and her pajamas. Hey, these are pajamas. Whenever you're ready to go. Time to get out of your clothes and stop reading the book. And by the way, Fancy Nancy. I am so over Fancy Nancy. It's. Fancy Nancy is so difficult for myself to read. At times I find myself sounding like a fourth grader trying to read rum. Reading Fancy Nancy because it's these faint. It's these fancy cursive letters or these, these just me getting mad about fancy. It's these fancy letters that make it a little difficult to read. And there's a lot of verbiage. It's like Fancy Nancy gives you a lot of fancy words and then gives you the definition of the fancy word. Like this is another name for doing this. And it's teaching them language and teaching them vocabulary. I understand that, but there's too much going on with Fancy Nancy. And Fancy Nancy kind of pisses me off.
Sherm
Does it give you a good cadence? Like is the. Does it feel like the formula is the same on each page or is it almost like it's structured so wildly.
Ryan Seacrest
That, Bro, there's this one book that's structured so wildly, like she's opening up her ooh la la fancy, like mani petty store or something like that. And on each one, there's also instructions of how to do a mani pedi. I skipped those. Hey, it's Ryan Seacrest for Albertsons and Safeway.

Gatorade is the number one proven electrolyte blend designed to hydrate better than water so you can lose more sweat and raise your game. Gatorade is it in? You read the few lines above and below, but this. There's so much going on. Yeah, in these books. Some stories are all right to read. You get through them. Fancy Nancy didn't get a part in the the play where she wanted to be like a mermaid or something like that. Oh no, there's another one where she doesn't go to bed early so she's cranky the next day and that's why it's important to get your sleep.
Sherm
Come on.
Ryan Seacrest
There's some good messaging in Fancy Nancy, but overall Fancy Nancy has too much going on. Yes, and and it again Difficult for me to read. And I'm not going to say difficult like I can't read. I'm saying difficult like all we have is a nightlight on or like a lamp on when I'm reading. So it's a little darker in the room. So it's a little. It makes it a little more difficult to read Nancy that.
Sherm
What, what the fuck she doing? What's Nancy doing? I will say Eloise at the Plaza. Have you ever read that?
Ryan Seacrest
Possibly.
Sherm
Okay. Because that, that book and this may be a hot take, but that book is equally hard to read because of the breaks in it. I want. Oh, the places you'll go Dr. Seuss style and then they. The new hat and I know when to fly. My voice.
Ryan Seacrest
Good flow. Yes. Nancy's kind of all over the place.
Sherm
Okay.
Ryan Seacrest
She's a tip out there for the, for the parents. Some of you might love fancy Nancy. I got a bone to pick with the little girl.
Sherm
Don't blame you.
Ryan Seacrest
So I'm going off on a tangent. I know we got to keep this under an hour, but the dad loss is losing a verbal negotiation with your little one. After dinner time, I ended up at the park. The park turned into a win. The loss then was. It took her an hour to get her down for bedtime. The other loss was the ripple effect of saying monsters at the park because at the end of bedtime she wanted to ask about the monsters and can they get in the house? No, they can't use their hands. They don't know how to open doors. So they're not going to be in the house? No. But what about outside? They're not. You know, I lied. They don't come out at nighttime. Are the monsters nice? Yeah, monsters are nice. Dead ass friends with the monsters. The Comptons are in good standing with the monsters. So they're not going to mess with us in great family.
Sherm
Great monsters are a great family.
Ryan Seacrest
Monsters know they're nice to us. Matter of fact, they make a movie about nice monsters. It's Monsters, Inc. We'll watch it on the next pizza Friday.
Sherm
Okay. What's this? Pizza Friday.
Ryan Seacrest
So we're listening right now. It's July 18th, Friday.
Sherm
Okay.
Ryan Seacrest
Family and I were going to Canada tomorrow on the 19th of July. Don't get back until the next Sunday.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
So people that are listening to the show right now, your boys in the middle of Canada going on some hikes. I'm going with my. I'm going with my best friend Nick and his family. We got. We're bringing both families we're going to have fun. We're going on a lot of, like, nice excursions out there in the northwest. It's going to be a lot of fun. That's what I'll be doing currently. However, today on Pizza Friday, as we're recording this podcast, we are watching Monsters, Inc. Tonight night because of the monsters ripple effect that this week has had because I brought up monsters at the playground. I was doing my gas station run last night. Charl was on rude, dirty, rude duty. Got Scotty down wonderfully. And so I went on my little gas station run to go get me a couple drinks, give me some nicotine.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Charl. Hopefully he's not listening, but I get back home and Charl was like, I had to stay. She had me up there forever because she had to turn her flashlight on and clear every part of her room because of monsters. Oh, no. Like, hand up. That's on me. I said, monsters are going to come out when the sun goes down. Now she thinks monsters are everywhere when.
Sherm
It'S nighttime, which is a healthy boundaries with outside and. And it being dark out.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And by a learning lesson as well.
Ryan Seacrest
I feel throwing the word monsters around. Just know how to use it. It's great. It's great ammo in the backpack. It's great ammo in the backpack. Just know how to use it. Because there's going to be a ripple.
Sherm
Effect with monsters and having that extra lore already built out for when those questions start coming. Maybe on the drive home, you're telling yourself, okay, but the monster, they come at the park. They don't come at the house. It's a little different.
Ryan Seacrest
Exactly.
Sherm
Because you got the park monsters.
Ryan Seacrest
Exactly. My mistake as a dad was saying the monsters come out when the sun goes down.
Sherm
That's a blanket state.
Ryan Seacrest
That's a blanket universal sun's down. Holy shit. Monsters are surrounding the house. Not our house, sweetheart. They can't use their hands. They don't know how to open doors. Dad locks all the doors anyway, sweetheart. No, no, they're not me dad's friends. With a matter of fact, I just talked to him before I came up here. I said, hey, don't bother our ass tonight. We got sweet. I'm saying all this stuff.
Sherm
Oh, no. Also a very selfish note, but you bringing up Nick, dude, it just. It breaks my heart that you're going to have to tell him what I did today on. On forgetting to hit record. You're gonna have to break that to Nick. And that's.
Ryan Seacrest
Nick listens.
Sherm
He listens Nick listens. He said some very kind things about me. Shout out.
Ryan Seacrest
He did. You're like his favorite podcaster. Left me down and, like, outside the top 10.
Sherm
Yeah, we'll revisit that list after this episode. I'm sure he's gonna be like, you can't do that to my boy.
Ryan Seacrest
No, he'll probably. He'll probably scold me for, hey, be easy on him. It's a good boy.
Sherm
Will you yell at him or something?
Ryan Seacrest
Papa Shirts, I didn't yell at you.
Sherm
No, you didn't. You didn't.
Ryan Seacrest
I was very frustrated, though. Now I feel like we're getting to where we were in the first podcast.
Sherm
This is exact. The exact point where shit hit the fan. So for listeners at home, these are all fresh takes. This is where the fun begins.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Now can I tell you what we missed? Yeah, go ahead, Top, please. Because we love engaging with Papa Team Six.
Sherm
Yeah, dude.
Ryan Seacrest
We got to the roll call that's been going on on story and Twitter, where I'm sitting there and I'm getting. Getting little feeding little sky to the bottle, and I take a little selfie with a flex or a little selfie with a smile. Doesn't matter. And you just said, papa Team Six roll call. And people just comment and respond with photos of them and their kids. I love it.
Sherm
I love it, too.
Ryan Seacrest
And again, if you're listening, like I said in the My Instagram story tag or the dadspod, so that way we can share those stories and share the roll call that you guys are clocking in. And it doesn't even necessarily have to be one of us that start the roll call.
Sherm
Yes.
Ryan Seacrest
Like, if you're at night time, it's like, oh, I gotta hit the roll call. Or you're having a little tough moment. You're like, you know what? I gotta hit a roll call.
Sherm
A listener roll call would go crazy.
Ryan Seacrest
Would go crazy.
Sherm
Yeah. If you want to retweet, if you're looking for some. What is that word? Where people are clicking? Well, clout, but they're clicking on your stuff. Engagement.
Ryan Seacrest
Engagement.
Sherm
You want an engagement farm? I know a quick way to get a Will Compton retweet. Little pt6, check in.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, I do love them when. When everybody's, like, tagging us about a dad story or whatever it is, whether hitting, like, a roll call. Just checking in from the trenches. Love this message. Love this. Love the lesson or the quote or the story, the dad hack, whatever it is. Yeah. When people write something that's. That's. That's the fastest way to my heart.
Sherm
It also, it sticks out to me. I said this in our earlier podcast this morning post that Chef put up of the I want you papa team six.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Jill was mentioning that some of her friends are even seeing those posts and they're just like, I love the way that the, the podcast does have this community of like checking in on the listeners. Like it's not only like hey, you win a shirt or hey subscribe, blah blah, but just like the constant like a PT6.
Ryan Seacrest
How we dude the PT6 people saying ST6 for C team 6 or semen team 6.
Sherm
I love my semen team 6 members.
Ryan Seacrest
Love it.
Sherm
Love them.
Ryan Seacrest
I can't. Did I say the BUDS acronym?
Sherm
You did.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. In the second. In the second episode.
Sherm
In the. In the second episode. But worth revisiting if you'd like.
Ryan Seacrest
I'm. I'm just glad it's out there. So people even start utilizing that when they say BUDS training. It's like now there's another inside joke of breeding until dad status and then moms. Again to go back into the comments because we at the top of the episode we kind of glossed over that.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
But Natalie Brown, 2476. This is for some mom names out there. She said 30 year old mom of three checking in from southeast Missouri. That's your boy's neck of the woods.
Sherm
Come on.
Ryan Seacrest
My take on mompt6 moms are without a doubt mama, delta force and hashtag MDF pregnant. Moms are Delta in course trying to conceive. Delta intercourse surrogate mom. Delta outsource, got pregnant pregnant but didn't intend to. Delta remorse and then second crack at it. Do I go? Do I hit the last one? You can one of those Casey Anthony type moms. Delta enforce. That's a comment. Love the humor.
Sherm
Love the humor. That's a comment. It's a joke and it's a legend.
Ryan Seacrest
And then also there was one. Chef, can you read the mom that was underneath the I want you Papa team six? And she's like, I'm cooking up some names. Check the DMS.
Sherm
Yeah, for sure.
Ryan Seacrest
This is Kennedy LeBlanc.
Sherm
She sent a very nice long message that I will forward to you guys. Female listener squad names over ops and womb raiders.
Ryan Seacrest
Love over the ops.
Sherm
Love over the ops.
Ryan Seacrest
And we were talking about it on the first one.
Sherm
We were.
Ryan Seacrest
But Womb Raiders, that's it.
Sherm
That's like a mercenary.
Ryan Seacrest
We were saying it's like a mercenary group that doesn't necessarily work with all the military units that we're creating. You know what I mean? Womb Raiders. Feels like it's like an outsourcing.
Sherm
Yeah, it's like a special ops from the private sector. What did I. I'm blanking again. Did you say splinter unit?
Ryan Seacrest
You said splinter.
Sherm
Splinter unit. It's a splinter unit.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
I almost think of, like, caretakers or, like, nurse types or nanny types or, you know, babysitters. Like, they, you know, they're coming in, they're helping where they can.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
That's kind of where I. What I go to. I wanted to add, if you think about it, too, if you're a woman listening to this podcast, you're probably a sicko. So it kind of fits the whole.
Ryan Seacrest
You're probably a sicko.
Sherm
I mean, it fits the whole special ops.
Ryan Seacrest
If you're a new mom, you might have to be. It might have to be Milk Team six.
Sherm
I love Milk Team six because milk just.
Ryan Seacrest
You know what I mean? They're pumping.
Sherm
Pumping at least 5 ounces. Six ounces is what Jill's getting out now. It's crazy.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. New mom's milk team. Milk Team 6 Raiders over the ops, all the Delta task forces. Oh, yeah, we'll let it. We'll let moms chime in.
Sherm
Yeah, Moms chime in.
Ryan Seacrest
We need to have a mom podcast collaboration.
Sherm
I would love that. What. What was the name we just became milfs was the one that.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, yeah, my wife Charles listens to. Did we just become milfs? I believe.
Sherm
Oh, did we just become milfs?
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Did we just become milfs? I think, but I know there are a few out there. Dude, it would be fun to collaborate on a podcast. Bring them on for the dads.
Sherm
My.
Ryan Seacrest
My shop.
Sherm
Talk some shop. My wife has been throwing out the tea, apparently. That's a big one. The tea. The tea.
Ryan Seacrest
Ooh.
Sherm
She was like, if y' all collabed with the tea, that would. It would be the greatest thing to ever happen on the interwebs, dude.
Ryan Seacrest
It would just be fun.
Sherm
Allegedly.
Ryan Seacrest
Have fun. Talk about, like, both sides. Like, what's the deal with complaining about having to pump all the time? Like, that stuff seems.
Sherm
Does it really hurt?
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Like, if I was pumping, it's like I was telling my wife when she was feeding and pumping and doing all that stuff. I just. Sweetheart, I wish I could pump. Like, I'll have those things on all day long, and I'll just go upstairs playing pubg with the boys. Hey, that just turning out milk.
Sherm
Thank God you said that. That is my survival kit. I had a different survival Kit really quick. I'll plug the wireless breast pumps. Do y' all have those?
Ryan Seacrest
Yes, bro.
Sherm
Those are crazy. Jill literally has a bra that she slips these wireless breast pumps in and she could be doing anything in the house that she would want to do. She could go out to Target nobody. They would just be like, oh, wow.
Ryan Seacrest
She'S got a wire, the wire connector that's like, it's like battery operated.
Sherm
But yeah, that's, that's what Jill had. And then we went to this wireless thing. Dude, I'm telling you, Jill could be walking around Target right now shopping and it just looks like she's heavy chested. You don't even see it. You don't even hear it. And it's just inside the bra, just doing the.
Ryan Seacrest
Just getting milked.
Sherm
Getting milked. And then when you take it out of the bra, you pour it upside down to. It's as simple as that. And it pours out all the breast milk.
Ryan Seacrest
Second one.
Sherm
Oh yeah, dude. Hey, I did, I did try it. I don't know if I told you that.
Ryan Seacrest
Not that bad, right?
Sherm
It was. Well, it was a very small amount. I'll do an actual sip. But I did like a little like, you know, it leaked on the side of the bottle. I did one of these and I was just looking at this drop and I went, it wasn't that bad.
Ryan Seacrest
Not that bad.
Sherm
It's not that bad.
Ryan Seacrest
Looks weird.
Sherm
Looks very weird.
Ryan Seacrest
Like, ah, looks like some spoiled. It's a little yellow. Yeah, a little yellow. Some spoiled looking milk. Let me try it out.
Sherm
Why not? I'm drinking worse things. Yeah, it looks like eggnog.
Ryan Seacrest
Not too bad, not too bad, not too bad.
Sherm
But yeah, a little collab.
Ryan Seacrest
I think that would be awesome.
Sherm
At Barker on YouTube commented 11 days until joining pt6. So damn stoked.
Ryan Seacrest
Yes, bro. Come on. Congratulations Parker. That he's gonna be in it. He's going to be in it just like you.
Sherm
He will be.
Ryan Seacrest
He will be a Papa Team 6 member. This one comes from Hambonious Rex Seed Team 6. Twin boys inbound. Good wife struggling. So I'm building all the furniture, cooking, doing laundry and the grocery shopping. Good, good, good. I love it. You gotta embrace it, man.
Sherm
I. I will say with the furniture building and I think we've talked about this. You don't like furniture.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, buddy. I task rabbit the shit out. Charles. Like, hey, it'd be fun if you built the crib. It would be fun, wouldn't it? I'm not going to.
Sherm
Which shocks me. Which shocks me. I don't think it's a bad thing that you don't build it. But I get so much, like, it's almost cathartic when I build furniture. Like, I truly get so much like, God, look what I did. And I'm able to point at it. And Jill can physically see the work that I did. And she's like, brad, I hear on the phone, Sherman put together this shelf. It was so hard to put together. She's proud of me. I'm like, damn, I need to keep doing that.
Ryan Seacrest
What makes me ultimately having to do it? Because there'd be a couple furniture pieces and I'd want to task Rabbit. But Charl wants to build it. She starts building it, I feel bad. I go in and build it with her. There you go. But I draw a boundary, sweetheart. Took a little bit of time. I'm task rabbiting the next thing.
Sherm
Yeah, well, especially if you have.
Ryan Seacrest
I painted a couple rooms.
Sherm
There you go.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Painted Rue's room. Painted our office. I don't think I painted Scotty's room. I don't think I painted scene. But yeah. Manual labor and Willie C. Look, do I think about, like, I built a couple things. Yeah. For the kiddos. Do I remember building them? No. You know what I mean? It's not like I look back, oh, papa built that for you.
Sherm
Yes. I will say this. When I look at you, the way that you interact with the world, you do not seem like somebody that's not handy. Yeah. Like, you don't. You don't give off any type of. I've seen you around the grill at the father's Day or Father's Day at the dad combine.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Like, you know what you're doing. You're handy.
Ryan Seacrest
I love that you say that. Because as my boy, I'm sure he's listening right now. He's probably chuckling, knowing he's like, will hates anything manual labor related.
Sherm
Now, who is this?
Ryan Seacrest
Nick.
Sherm
Oh, Nick.
Ryan Seacrest
Now, am I competent? Can I read directions and get it right? For the most part, yes. Sometimes I might have to backtrack. Fuck. I got to pull this all back apart. I did the wrong screw here.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
I just don't care. I just. It's just not my bag, dude.
Sherm
Yeah, you that one too.
Ryan Seacrest
Many other things on my mind. Like if, like, hey, you know, oh, let's build this thing. I'd love to just check out, take a mental break and put my hands on something and build something. There's no stress, but there might be messages that just come across my phone. Hey, Forgot to press record on that entire episode.
Sherm
No, but truly, you do have way more traffic going on on your phone than, like, the normal human. And it does give me an opportunity to shut off my brain, but I feel like I'm able to afford myself that where maybe less so with yourself. So I get. I get that. I get.
Ryan Seacrest
But if there was a badge for, like, furniture building, I wouldn't feel right accepting that badge. Even though I've done a couple of things, I wouldn't feel right accepting that badge. Does that make sense? Yeah.
Sherm
Like the. If you came in next week and you said, sherman, love you so much, Fully forgive you for not hitting record. And slash. I thought about it. You get your couch badge. You didn't really earn it, but I'm gonna give it to you. I would. I wouldn't slap it out of your hand, but I'd be like, I'm not putting that thing on.
Ryan Seacrest
That's kind of. Yeah, that's kind of my mindset.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
I wouldn't give you the couch badge.
Sherm
No.
Ryan Seacrest
But in that hypothetical, that's the mindset I'm on because I know there's dads out there. It's like, it's a badge of honor.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Building your kids, like, toy sets and doing all these things. Like, for Christmas, I had to put together r Chevy and then the little red. The little red car with the little yellow roof.
Sherm
Love those.
Ryan Seacrest
Put those things together.
Sherm
Winnie the Pooh car.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. It's not like I sit there and I'm like, I'm ready. Do it. I'm ready to dive into this badge of honor. I'm like, christmas is tomorrow. I do got to build this thing.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Any other comments?
Sherm
Oh, as far.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, Benjamin. Benjamin. My little girl is dazed from taking her first steps and being on the move. I look forward to watching these episodes. It's such a more realistic way of showing how dad life really is. Hope both of your family stay healthy and happy. Dude, shout out the first steps, man.
Sherm
Dude.
Ryan Seacrest
When rue I got the video, I'm, like, sitting there in front of her, and mom's got her little arms, and it's like, walk to dad, dad. Like, you've seen her take a couple steps, but now she's like, she's about to walk to dead end. I just had the camera sitting in front of her. Mom lets her little arms go, and she's just, like, watering over. Dude. Warms your heart, man. It's the best. I watch that video so often. It's the best man video. As much as you Fucking can.
Sherm
I am already getting my heart broken with seeing things on TikTok of like newborn to three months. Like, look at the difference. And it's like a little 5 second video of them as a newborn and then it jumps to them as three months. And I physically in my heart felt like a. Oh, when I saw that three month old, I said, that baby looks way too old. It's huge. What's going on?
Ryan Seacrest
It goes, man, Charo every month will do a monthly photo with like a little sign next to him with the letters like six months old and get him to smile. And she did it with Rue, doing it with Scotty.
Sherm
Little growth chart.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, Just capture as much as you can. Capture as much as you can.
Sherm
I need to do a better job. And to that point. And I'll read out this comment too, because we all did a good job of replying to him. This came on Twitter. This came on our. For the dads, check in our Papa team six, check in post Tim A said, seem seed Team six here. We got our induction date today and man, I'm shitting myself. I was in the mindset that it was already real and had already hit me, but I was fucking wrong. Full panic mode engaged and damn near had an anxiety attack, but held it together for the wifey.
Ryan Seacrest
I remember that one.
Sherm
Will, will you reply to it with the great comments? And hey, don't be scared and tell wifey you know how you're feeling. You're not alone in this. I chimed in, said, you're crushing it. The fact that you have anxiety shows that you care. You're gonna crush it for the dad. Chef commented on it, but I want to challenge myself. And we talked about this in my mid year review. I was thinking about this last night when I was going to bed. I was like, God, I gotta. I gotta reply to more comments. Because we're getting so many comments that it's not like it waters it down to where I don't care, but there's just so many comments and you like.
Ryan Seacrest
Say like, okay, I'll get to these in a little bit or something. Yes. And then you kind of forget because it's, it's. It can be overwhelming for sure.
Sherm
Yes. And then I think to myself, they spent so much of their time to put that out there. The least I can do is heart that and give some sort of reply to like show pt6. Like we're reading these things because I'm reading damn near almost all of them.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
That I'm getting tagged in.
Ryan Seacrest
That's the most fun part about this. Yeah. Is like, the goal is, like, building a community of dads, papa teams, even the females that are involved in Comet and everything else.
Sherm
But it's so.
Ryan Seacrest
It's. It's cool, bro, because you're right. It's like you want to. We want to be doing these shows and pumping out content to where it's like, you know, we make dad fatherhood seem fun. Talk about low moments and just connecting with the community because they're, like, watching something. There's Papa Team 6, right. You're part of it. You're taking a moment to, like, comment and do your thing because you feel like we're all part of this thing. Because we are.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And when old buddy sent that anxiety attack, that kind of panic attack thing, it's like something that. Because when I said, hey, share with your wife, like, something I would learn or Charlie and I would both learn, like, when. When we do therapy together is like, you know, you want to keep on this energy as the man of coming off strong and coming off composed for them. Right?
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And then you learn, like, when we're in these therapy sessions and talking about it, like, hey, I'm nervous as, too. Like, I'm terrified because I think I'm gonna be a bad dad. Or you feel like, you know, she's going through so much. So you want to remain strong. And that also creates a sense of, like, alone, like this lonely feeling for yourself, too, because it builds up. The stress will build up in you at some point.
Sherm
Point.
Ryan Seacrest
And just communicating that stress with your partner. Because, again, it's not about strength. It's about just connection. It's about sometimes that is a strength. It's just, hey, we're both terrified.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And we're both going through this, and I feel like I want to help carry that for you. But your partner also wants to know that you are terrified. That probably helps them feel a little more comfortable as well. Like, you don't. As a man, you don't always have to come off strong, especially with your partner. So you tell her, hey, bro, the. The gentleman that sent that message.
Sherm
Yeah, Tim.
Ryan Seacrest
And in my reply to Tim, it's like, dude, share that with your wife. Like, I'm telling you, it's. She wants to know what you're going through as well. It's not about. Just like, they're. They're probably feeling like, man, I'm stressing out so much. I'm doing all these things. Like, he seems to have it all together. Like, should I continue sharing all this stuff with them, does he even want to hear about it? It's like, bro, you tell her that you're going through the same or you're going through your own walk with it too. Like, that's where you can both connect over all that stuff. Then you go into the fire together, because I promise you, no parent feels like they're just ready for it all. When parenthood comes, everybody's excited and everybody's also terrified because it's like, am I going to be a good dad? Am I going to be a good mom? Am I going to come up short? I didn't have the best upbringing. Am I going to be a replication of what I grew up in? Am I going to be carry on the legacy that my parents were to me? Like, there's all these different things that everybody has. Yeah, that's all justified, but it's just like, you're going into the fire and you want to do it. You want to do it with each other and do.
Sherm
The worries that I had. I said this to my friend because he. He was asking me. He's a C Team 6 member looking to become a dad, and he was picking my brain of just like, sherm, how's it going? And how I broke it down to him is I was like, the worries that I talked about with you on the show of, like, getting enough sleep, the diaper stuff, all that stuff. I, like, laugh about that now because I'm like, it's like, we got that figured out and we're on to the next thing. Like, I got bigger fish to fry and to worry about. And I told them, it was like, I'm from Alito, Texas, a huge football town in Texas. I remember trying out for the football team my freshman year, and all the upper classmen being like, hey, you better get ready, dude.
Ryan Seacrest
Because it's different.
Sherm
It's different out here.
Ryan Seacrest
Grown men out here, grown men say, no, Little League.
Sherm
I don't think you're built for this. And then you look up two months later, and you're like, halfway through the season and you're a football player on the team.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Doing your thing. Like, it.
Ryan Seacrest
You see the next crop going through the same anxieties and fears.
Sherm
Yes. Like, it's like, yes, worry about it. Yes. Be nervous about it. But I can't wait for you to see me do a diaper change. And I mean, you're gonna be like, yo, let's go.
Ryan Seacrest
I see. You kidding.
Sherm
Yes, dude.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
I never thought I'd be good at that. And now that's just second nature. That's. I'll do three diapers in one change because there's shit on that one. But then she peed on the clean one. So now that one's in there, and now we got a third one in there. Now we're good.
Ryan Seacrest
Just know that it's all normal and natural and catching yourself when the anxiety or the stress is building to where you can give yourself the grace of a. This is normal.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Think about the millions, billions of kids and parents that were before us.
Sherm
Look how many humans are on planet Earth, dude. And just being able to identify. Exactly like you said, identify the anxiety. And if you're able to communicate that neurologically, us dudes, us papas are. We are naturally not good communicators on that front.
Ryan Seacrest
Right. You default to that strength. I got to come off this way.
Sherm
And that is just. That is in your brain. That is literally built into your brain to do that. So when you're sharing that stuff with your partner, bro, they're going, that's like crack cocaine to them. They. They will be so excited that you broke down how you're feeling in that moment. Like when I told Jill how pissed I was about that dad loss of scarlet overheating.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Her being like, you're good. She's fine. Look at her. She's asleep right now. And, like, it's not gonna happen again. You're gonna be cognizant of the heat. Well, let's move on. Tomorrow's a new day.
Ryan Seacrest
So can we talk about the other dad loss that you had? ET6ST6. This ad read is for you. This is. We are sponsored by roe. If you'd like to speed up the process to getting a boner, look no further. ROE sparks are a two in one prescription treatment for guys who need a secret weapon against softness. Rose sparks are going to give guys bigger, thicker, and longer erections because they get fuller faster after rose sparks dissolve. They work in 15 minutes on average. And if prescribed, new sexual health patients get $15 off their first order of sparks. On a recurring plan, connect with the provider at ROE Co Dads to find out if prescription roast sparks are right for you. That's Ro Co Dads for $15 off your first order. Back to this episode. Compounded drugs are permitted to be prescribed under federal law but are not FDA approved and do not undergo FDA safety effectiveness or manufacturing review. For full safety information, go to RO. That I got to kind of be a fly on the wall for.
Sherm
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. So this was Technically, my motherfucked moment we had. I titled it the Battle for the Belt. Jill won. Spoiler alert. She won the belt. Let me read a little quote here and you guys can guess who this quote is from. Listeners at home, this might seem familiar. Show your kids what resilience looks like. Maybe you're just exhausted and don't have any patience, but it is something to keep in mind that I have to constantly remind myself is that our kids are always watching. They're watching how we handle things and how we deal with adversity around the house and. And watching how we handle our communication with everyone around us.
Ryan Seacrest
That was the. The Papa Team 6 lesson last week. That was episode six.
Sherm
Episode six. That comes from William Compton. The third is I did not show good resilience.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, happens, bro. Telling you it happens.
Sherm
I.
Ryan Seacrest
And more often than not, I'll.
Sherm
I'll break it down for you. For dads out there, if you are breastfeeding or if. If mom is breastfeeding, Charo is a breastfeeder. So you are well aware of this. They have to either feed or pump every 3ish hours.
Ryan Seacrest
Pretty constantly.
Sherm
Pretty constantly.
Ryan Seacrest
That's why we wish we could pump.
Sherm
That's why we wish we could pump. Because if they don't pump, there is a bacterial buildup that can then make mom very sick. Not baby.
Ryan Seacrest
Not just create like. Like a clog situation where. That's painful.
Sherm
Yes, dude.
Ryan Seacrest
But essentially Mom's got somebody on those milkers 24 7. Whether it's a baby or it's a pump. Yeah.
Sherm
And it. It is something to where Jill. The most sleep Jill has gotten in a set contained amount of hours is probably. Probably two and a half. That's probably the most sleep that she's gotten because she is just wanting to be superstar mom of if the doctor. The pediatrician shout out. Wait, can I say my doctor's name?
Ryan Seacrest
If you want to or.
Sherm
No, I don't know. I.
Ryan Seacrest
There's nothing legally. You can't.
Sherm
Yeah, she can't talk about us, but I could talk about her.
Ryan Seacrest
Yes, sure.
Sherm
Okay. Shout out Dr. St. Fest. Great name. She says, Jill, you got pump every three hours. Well, Jill's gonna be like, by God, I'm pumping every three hours.
Ryan Seacrest
Right. Because again, it's like any type of buildup that happens if they miss. Like, moms definitely want to stay on that stuff.
Sherm
Absolutely.
Ryan Seacrest
Milk team six.
Sherm
Milk team six. I bet that there are a lot of moms that don't breastfeed. And so they are getting some better sleep because they're, you know, feeding on formula. Or maybe there's some moms that, like, they'll skip a pump because you can. At the end of the day, you can skip a pump or a feed and go formula. But Jill is not that way. She's like, I want to feed whenever I can. I want to pump whenever I can. And I'm operating as. I'm not sleeping the best either, but nowhere near two and a half hours of sleep being my best night's sleep.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And so when I'm showing signs of. I'm kind of tired. I need a little bit of an escape. I need to play video games with the boys. Oh, honey, the boxes can wait till tomorrow. Oh, honey, this can wait. I'll make the bed for my mom coming in town later. Honey, I.
Ryan Seacrest
Wait.
Sherm
I need a nap. I need a nap so bad. If you just let me nap for 30 minutes. I just need a nap going into this night shift, and I'm gonna be solid. I'm gonna be set. And so there's all this buildup of me kind of basically the whole day just showing signs of, hey, Jill. I'm exhausted. And Jill's just eating it. And in the. In her head, she's like, I've. Most sleep I've gotten is two hours in this. Son of a. So it all comes out when I.
Ryan Seacrest
When those. Those stressors are high, too. It's like that. The scoreboard comes into play in your mind.
Sherm
Yes.
Ryan Seacrest
Whether you wanted to or not. Because, again, you're operating at a. You're, like, operating on E. You both are. Yes.
Sherm
And she did a great job of being like, I want you to sleep. I want you to get your. But I look at you, and selfishly, I'm like, damn, he got six hours. That's crazy. I wish I could get six hours.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And so there's that comparison. So she sees her, you know, dumb, stupid husband go lug over to the Xbox and go, you know, turn on the Xbox. And I got little Scarlet over here next to me, and Scarlett's kind of. And she's like, are you gonna pick her up? And. No, honey, she does that. It's fine. Like, well, Sherman, you have the headset on. Like, can you hear her crying? Yeah, honey, I leave the headset, like, partially off my ear. I know when Scarlet's crying. Well, are you talking to people on there who you play? Yeah, I'm playing with Will and Jared and.
Ryan Seacrest
But.
Sherm
But also a note. They said that I shouldn't be playing. They said I shouldn't be playing.
Ryan Seacrest
I don't think we said it. When you were on the game.
Sherm
I was giving you a bailout.
Ryan Seacrest
When I was hearing everything that had happened and went down, I know in my brain, I was like. My questions were, how is he on the game? And then my next thought, or I guess three, how is he on the game? Why is he on the game? Hearing this story. Or she might not know that he's on the game at the moment.
Sherm
100%, which we'll get into. So I'm just about to get onto the game, and Jill pops her top on me, just loses it on me.
Ryan Seacrest
Say why. What do we get to say? Why?
Sherm
Oh, yeah. Of just like, you're acting like you're tired. You're da, da, da. You get to have this nighttime shift that, yes, it's hard, but essentially, you just sit next to her and play video games with your buddies. Like, I have no community with, like, moms.
Ryan Seacrest
Right.
Sherm
You know, I'm alone in this. I feel like my husband's hanging me out to dry during the day because he's tired because he got to play video games all night while I watched her r. Our daughter r. Oh. Oh, I'm getting there. I'm getting there. So to not go into full details of what Jill said to protect my wife, some things were said that I was like. Oh, man. I mean, I truly was like, chin on the floor. I got ripped, like, five new ones. And I'm sitting there, and I'm starting to get pissed, not at her, but at myself. And as she's going, I'm telling her everything's fine. She needs to let me do me. We have this system in place. Everything's good. And as that's going on, we have a fucking raccoon now confirmed in our ceiling, just moving around. And Wrigley, our sweet dachshund, is just letting the raccoon have it. Just so you have Jill losing on me, Scarlet, and then Wrigley. Well, there's one thing of those three that I can control, and it's Wrigley. I've been telling him no all night.
Ryan Seacrest
There's one thing that you can go full papa team 6.
Sherm
I can go full papa team 6 on. And so I go up to Wrigley. I give him up.
Ryan Seacrest
No.
Sherm
And I on his butt, which we do that, like, with our dogs. I'm sorry for anybody at home that doesn't like that.
Ryan Seacrest
Lost yourself in the moment. You had a reaction to the dog?
Sherm
Had a reaction to the dog.
Ryan Seacrest
Same way.
Sherm
Yep. Gave him because that was, like, his eighth no, that night.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And so I wanted to enforce it. I hit it. She goes, you are in no mood to be watching our daughter. And goes and picks her up off the thing. I'm like, bro, that was.
Ryan Seacrest
You're about to do nighttime.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And lose it all. This is happening.
Sherm
Yes.
Ryan Seacrest
Hit the dog. Hit the dog, Wrigley. Because he ain't shutting up. He's making it worse. Oh, yeah, you hit the dog. You're about to do nighttime shift. And she's like, you're in.
Sherm
No. You're in no mood to be watching our daughter. I can see it in your shoulders. You're so tense. I was the monsters in the park that Ru was afraid of. And I'm sitting there, and I'm like, I became that guy. Like, my wife is, like, scared for me to watch my daughter. Like, am I a bad dad? Like, am I a monster? Like, what? Oh, my gosh. I would never hurt Scarlett. I would never hurt Jill. And I'm not reacting verbally to Jill. I'm eating everything she's telling me. Because last time she lost it on me, like, what, six weeks ago?
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
75% of what she's saying is right.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Which it was.
Ryan Seacrest
All of it's built up on you.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Moment happens.
Sherm
And so she's holding our daughter. And I feel like I'm losing custody of my daughter. Like, it was a. I'm just sitting there like, dude, I up. Damn it. And she grabs the snuggle me and the blanket. She goes, we're going to the room. You know, blah, blah, blah. And take Scarlett into the room. And I just sit there on the couch like this. And I'm just sitting there. I'm like. Because I know I can't go in there and talk to her. It's both.
Ryan Seacrest
Emotions are way too high.
Sherm
Motions are way too high, but also right.
Ryan Seacrest
Move on that part.
Sherm
Yeah. I'm like, I have lost.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
In this situation.
Ryan Seacrest
Not a cool down.
Sherm
Not that it's a competition, but I've lost fully, so what can I do?
Ryan Seacrest
But in your mind at the time, you're probably arguing your points in your head. Yeah.
Sherm
Really. To be completely honest, and this isn't to score points with her at this point. I'm just really mad at myself, to be honest. Like, I really wasn't breaking it down of, like, oh, like, the only thing that I was like, that's not true. Is, like, you're being a bad father. Blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, I know. I'm a good dad. I might. I might mess up da, da, da. But I'm a good dad. So that one hurt a little bit, but that's okay. I'll eat it. That's, like, the only thing that she really said, contextually, that made me upset.
Ryan Seacrest
Right.
Sherm
But I'm sitting there so fucking mad at myself, and I'm like, I honestly just want to talk to somebody. It's late at night. I know that the guys are on the Xbox, so I'm just gonna get on the Xbox. I know that my mentor Willie C. Is on there. J Rod's probably on there. He's great comic relief.
Ryan Seacrest
Because we had planned. We had planned to play.
Sherm
We had planned to play.
Ryan Seacrest
Sherm was late to getting on the game. We're kind of wondering what's going on.
Sherm
10:45, like, late, late.
Ryan Seacrest
Sherm was supposed to be on at, like, 9:30. He taught. Remember when you FaceTime me? And I was doing my back routine. It's like, no, that was.
Sherm
Oh, the Kroger. I forgot about Kroger.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Again, I don't know how much you were wanting to share. So as your boy in the foxhole.
Sherm
No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I missed a huge part of this story, guys. Kroger. Love Kroger. But the guy that packed our. They do a free pickup where they'll get all the groceries. And you go park in the space, they bring the groceries out to you. One of our grocery items was six chicken breasts. And he put it in with, like, all of our veggies and fruits and, like, stuff that isn't fully covered. And the chicken liquid is just seeping out of the. It's covered in chicken stuff. So it's like, hey, if you want salmonella, eat anything in this bag. Essentially, I'm like, well, that's, you know, $90 worth of groceries. I'm going back to Kroger. And Jill was like, honey, I. Your shift's about to start. I would really love you. And I'm like, honey, if I don't do this right now, it's not going to happen. And we're going to be $90 in the hole. And we're not pinching pennies, but we're trying to be smart with money. So I went up to Kroger. I told Jill it was going to take like, 30 minutes. It ended up taking two and a half hours or close to. I run into Jared. Anybody that follows me on Twitter saw I ran into Jared in the parking lot, and I thought, oh, for the dads comes out tomorrow. Could be a fun little promo if I acted like I'm paparazzi. And hey, Jerry, Jared. Jill sees that. Oh, so Sherman's at Kroger working hard to get home.
Ryan Seacrest
Jill's at home.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And Sherman's like, I'm going back to Kroger and I'm getting these groceries because the chicken juice has covered everything else. Going to take me 30 minutes.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Sherm tells me, hey, I can be on the game around 9:15, 9:30. He calls me, trying to talk me in the plane. I was like, buddy, okay. So Jill's thinking he's gonna go to the store for 30 minutes. It's a two and a half hour trip. So it's a two and a half hour trip. You know, she's doing, what in the hell is going on? She probably gets on a social media sees that he's doing a fun little content bit with Jared in the parking lot. Having fun.
Sherm
As I'm waiting for Kroger to solve this issue. Ended up being this whole thing where they. We can't reimburse. We can exchange. But how we. I don't know how we're going to either way.
Ryan Seacrest
Two and a half hours.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Sherm comes home. The hornets nest. That's probably where all these conversations are taking place.
Sherm
And what's the first thing I do when I walk in after I put said groceries in the fridge, I put on my headset. I get Scarlett in her little bed because I'm husband dad of the year.
Ryan Seacrest
You started to try to play the game before? For the moment, yes.
Sherm
Oh, yeah. That's what kicked it all off. That's what kicked it all off is I came home thinking I killed it at Kroger. Now it's my turn to watch. Here, honey, let me take Scarlet. You go to bed. Love you. And put her in her little snuggle me. And I'm sitting there with my headset on and she's in her snuggle me going, and not crying, crying, but like I'm moving. And Jill's like, are you going to do something about that? And I probably very quickly was like, oh, yeah, she's fine. She's fine. She does it and go back to my gantt. And she's like, when I have Scarlet, I'm holding Scarlet and I'm making sure Scarlet's good and I'm blah, blah, blah. And Sherman's doing this like halfsy kind of.
Ryan Seacrest
You're playing with Jared in the parking lot at Kroger. You come home, you just get on the headset, and she's whining. You're not doing nothing.
Sherm
Oh, yeah. And Sherman's just. He's having the time of his life. Fatherhood. So easy.
Ryan Seacrest
Crazy.
Sherm
It's just so much fun. And so she popped. I mean, she popped off on me, which totally.
Ryan Seacrest
Sherm was on the game for, like, a total of five minutes. Well, five, ten minutes.
Sherm
That was later.
Ryan Seacrest
So you were. You were logging on to play.
Sherm
I was logging on to play. That happens. You. You don't need to be, you know, Pop Wrigley. You don't need to be watching our daughter. I'm going to the room. So I think that there. That she's in there for the rest of the night.
Ryan Seacrest
You're like, all right, she's on night. She's on night duty now. Because she took it out of my hands.
Sherm
Because she took out my hands. Slash. I know. Because I tried to get Scarlet back like, two or three times verbally. Not, like, trying to get her back. But.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Honey, I'm. I'm sorry. You know what? You're right. I'm sorry. Just let me watch. No, you're not going to watch her.
Ryan Seacrest
She goes up to the room.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
So you're sitting down there.
Sherm
I'm like, I want to get this situation off my chest because I feel like the biggest idiot ever. I'm pissed at myself. I know my boy Willie C's on there. Taylor's on there. Jared's on there. So I log in, and I just trauma dump on them for, like, five minutes.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Yeah.
Sherm
Just trauma dump. Mid trauma dump.
Ryan Seacrest
Jill walks in, and I'm hearing this whole story, and I'm just thinking, how are you on the game right now? Why are you on the game right now? I wonder if Jill even knows he's playing the game right now.
Sherm
Because I'm just like. She's bunkered into her room.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Like, she's gonna be in there for the rest of the night. I might crawl in here in, like, right. 30 minutes, 45 minutes. And she comes outside and sees me on the game and goes, oh, great, you're on the game again. And I'm like. So I instantly turn off the Xbox. Instantly. I mean, I'm sure I was probably talking to you guys, and then you probably just saw.
Ryan Seacrest
We saw. Yeah, we saw your name leave the. Leave the discord. We saw you. The little plug logo next to your guy's name. We're like, I think it's bad.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
I think it went south. For sure. I'm over there in the house.
Sherm
Chirp needs reinforcements. So then I get a second lashing from Jill, understandably.
Ryan Seacrest
Got to keep this under an hour, by the way.
Sherm
Got to keep this under an hour. So in my brain, I then say to myself, you need to be a good dad and you need to start knocking out the things that you said you would help knock out for Jill. So I instantly go to the washer and dryer. I change out that load. I go outside into our front yard. I put my gloves, my work gloves on.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, she want the. She wants the weeds gone. The weeds about to be. Oh, she.
Sherm
Oh, she wants to. Everybody on the. On the Twitter say, oh, Sherman, what's that weed tree in your front yard? That weed tree? I got my handsaw and just. I'm just.
Ryan Seacrest
Phone.
Sherm
Go, go, go, go. At this point, it's probably like 11:30, close to 12. And I'm just taking down all these.
Ryan Seacrest
Weeds out there, diabolically killing the weeds covered. Taking out all your anger and all your stress on these chores around the house.
Sherm
Oh, yeah, dude. And because of the night shift, I, like, had a little nitro, like, coffee type thing to, like, earlier in the night to help me, but on an empty stomach. So I'm out there, I'm starting to get light headed. I'm like, all right, I need some going.
Ryan Seacrest
Full rainbow outside.
Sherm
Full rainbow on these weeds. And then in my head, when I was going inside to get a water, I heard up in the roof. I literally shot up. And I looked up at that ceiling. I said, tonight's the night. Whatever that animal is, it's gonna fucking die. I was raised in a home where I hunted. I've killed armadillo, I've killed rabbit barehanded, but with an object. I'm gonna kill whatever in my roof. Yeah, we have a huge fucking ladder at the shop. I'm gonna go get that ladder. Am I crazy? Am I psycho that I'm turning to kill something in this moment of anger? No, Sherman, you're not. It's okay. The thing needs to die. It's ruining your life. It's all you hear at night. I get to the shop at like 1:30. I unlock it, I get the ladder, I go back to my house.
Ryan Seacrest
1:30 in the morning. Sherm is here at the shop getting the ladder to go home.
Sherm
Getting the ladder to go home. Should I use a hammer? Should I use a knife? You know what? It actually be best. Let's get the fireplace poker. That's sharp. It's got some Length to it. I'm going to have to rip these wood slats off the side of my little enclosure to go in here and kill whatever this thing is. And I get halfway up the ladder to where I'm about, like, roof height. And I said to myself, these are the stories that you tell in the er. Like, these are the stories that you tell the doctor and your family sitting around. You're laughing because you have a broken tibia or fibia because you fell off.
Ryan Seacrest
The roof at 1:32 o' clock in the morning.
Sherm
At 1:32 o' clock in THE morning. And just as that's happening, I see the porch light turn on. I'm like, oh, here we fucking go. Jill comes out.
Ryan Seacrest
Sherm just on the roof, climbing. Then the porch light comes on.
Sherm
Jill's like, what the hell are you doing? What are you. I'm gonna go up there and I'm.
Ryan Seacrest
I'm.
Sherm
Honey, I'm sick and tired of whatever's up there. The trap that we have on the roof is not working. It's not catching. Whatever this fucking thing is, I'm going to go fucking kill it. This is the worst thing you could possibly be doing right now.
Ryan Seacrest
What?
Sherm
Why? What is this going to help?
Ryan Seacrest
I had to hit Wrigley earlier because you were lashing at me. Do me a favor and get back inside.
Sherm
I have a blood lust that I.
Ryan Seacrest
Can only be fed blood. I'm taking care of the problem, sweetheart.
Sherm
You said I'm a bad dad.
Ryan Seacrest
What makes me a good dad?
Sherm
Take care of our problems. What's our problem? This thing in our room. And dude, I was like, in such a thought cycle of just kill Sherman. Get that.
Ryan Seacrest
Get your ass back inside. I like that picture. Just a neighbor, like, looking out the window, the porch light on in the back, just like, what the hell is going on?
Sherm
I do. I have a blue collar neighbor that works like kind of late hours and around like 12 when I was ripping the weeds out, his pickup truck slowly was coming into his driveway. And he stopped in my yard 100% doing a. Is that that. Okay, it is the neighbors. So, like, no one's breaking into his house, but what the fuck is he.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, he does have a kid. I feel that he's just outside, outside going crazy.
Sherm
Dude didn't kill the.
Ryan Seacrest
Got down. You got off the roof.
Sherm
I got off the roof. As we mentioned before, I sent you a picture of the baby raccoon that was in our trap this morning. Found out the great news from the wildlife team that they had to release. Said baby raccoon back into our roof. Because really, we wanted to catch the mama raccoon. So that problem's just still ongoing.
Ryan Seacrest
So they're still there. Raccoons have made a home in your roof.
Sherm
Into the. They couldn't let them out in the wild. No. Had to be back in the roof. It was too young.
Ryan Seacrest
Cause the mama raccoon is in the roof, and it was just a baby raccoon that they had caught. And they're like, oh, we can't do this. We need to get the mom out. So we gotta get the baby back with mama.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
So they're both still in there.
Sherm
Oh, yeah. What's it called whenever you're living in an apartment, you're not paying, but you're like, you're living there illegally, you know? Oh, squatting. Squatting, yeah. Yeah. Raccoon squad.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. The raccoons are squatting at Sherm's house right now.
Sherm
I just sent a picture to Chef of the baby raccoon. It's the cutest thing you'll ever see. I walk out this morning, I'm like, what the fuck is that? I then see I'm on the phone with the animal people, blah, blah, blah.
Ryan Seacrest
So hang on. How are we getting the raccoons out? Because this is a. This is for Papa Team 6. This is a classified document file that's going to now come across our desk that we have to extract the raccoon.
Sherm
Can I tell you my plan?
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Carson with the wildlife team is awesome. However, wildlife team is expensive. I don't want to build up too much of an invoice to where when I then show said invoice to my landlord and say, hey, let's take this off next month's rent. I was taking care of this on the house, blah, blah, blah. That if it gets up to a certain number, I'm sure they're gonna be like, what the hell are you spending money on? Because the first service I paid for is like $600.
Ryan Seacrest
Jesus Christ, bro.
Sherm
I know.
Ryan Seacrest
So what's the plan? What's the plan?
Sherm
Here's the plan. Carson's going to come on Monday. He's going to set up multiple traps. If we don't catch him by Wednesday with the multiple traps, then we are not going to move forward with said service during these next couple days. He said it's imperative at night. Good thing I'm on the night shift to listen for noises, because if I don't hear any noises tonight, I should go up on our roof during midday because it's too hot for the raccoons up there. They will flee and go, you know, pillage and go get whatever food they need during the day.
Ryan Seacrest
Yep.
Sherm
I can go up and shut the enclosure, but you can't shut the enclosure when the raccoons are in there because they will die and then your house smells like dead animal for like two months.
Ryan Seacrest
I like this plan because the episode is releasing obviously today as people are listening.
Sherm
On D day.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, that's so true. We can get a follow up on this mission.
Sherm
Yeah, it's. Go ahead.
Ryan Seacrest
Should we get an operation name?
Sherm
I like that. Operation Trash Panda.
Ryan Seacrest
Operation Trash Panda. I like that. I was more of going like Operation Raccoona Bin Laden.
Sherm
Oh, I like that. I, I just want to say this.
Ryan Seacrest
We gotta keep it under an hour.
Sherm
We gotta keep it under an hour. I'm a, I'm not fully a broken man. I am showing resilience from now on. The only takeaway, the only win was that I didn't argue back at Jill in that moment. That is the only takeaway. But if I could get your thoughts on how I handled the situation, I'll open it for comments. The whole thing.
Ryan Seacrest
Like, what are my thoughts on that story? Yeah, I think very bad move. Very, very bad move putting the headset on. Yeah. Thinking after two and a half hours or two hours at Kroger again, to think the switch was just going to happen and you're going to throw on the headset. I think that was a very bad move. You should have done a couple things. Boys. I'm running behind. I'm probably not going to get on tonight night. You know what I mean?
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Because like, it's like you go home, you put the headset on when you're getting the mental lashing. And I've been there, trust me, stuff stews in the boy's brain and I, I like lose composure with the wife. And in my brain what happens is like when the lashings were going back and forth verbally and then when she, you know, if I were to hit the dog, I'm trying to think how to say this. See. Yeah. Say the verbal actions are going and I take it out on my dog.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
When she goes upstairs and takes the baby, what goes on in my mind is more of like, if I'm getting on the game, I'm getting on the game because I know I'm going to get another rise out of said situation because I know it's honestly, it's a bad move to just get back to think like all Right. They're all upstairs. I'm down here, kind of cooling off, thinking about what to do next. Your first thought should not be, I'm gonna goon with the boys on pubg. Yeah. Should be calming down. It should be probably sending. Sending a text to feel out where she's at, like, hey, hate how everything just went down. Would love the opportunity to come up and apologize and help take on. And help get a. Get a second chance with Scotty. Because I know you need your rest. And then there if you got Scotty or not Scotty. I keep. I keep Scarlet.
Sherm
They're close.
Ryan Seacrest
I get Scarlet. Calm down. Then I can join the game if the. The moment still presents itself. But that would have been my suggestion because I will be honest. When I was listening to you give every. All the play by play on the headset, I'm thinking to myself, it's a bad move to be on the game right now.
Sherm
Bad move. But I thought she was.
Ryan Seacrest
But selfishly, I was happy you're on the game because you talked me into getting on.
Sherm
I did.
Ryan Seacrest
So in my head, I'm like, sher wanted me to be on. And I told you, I told you I'm doing my back routine right now. If you could get on at 9:00'. Clock. I'm on.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
You're like, Ah, 9:15, 9:30. I was like, no, no, no. Because here's what you do. You'll say, 9:15, 9:30. At least it's 9:30. You'll probably be on at 9:50, 10 o'. Clock. You weren't even on then. And I remember being on the game being like. But I knew I was right about Sherm not getting on. So when you were on, you came in during a chicken dinner. We won. We're excited for you to be on. But as you're telling the story, I'm like, this doesn't feel good. It felt like when you just spontaneously got off the game, it was. It reminded me of Jurassic park, the opening scene when the velociraptor. Velociraptor takes buddy. He's trapped in the cage with the velociraptor shoe die. And dude's just like, losing his grand grip. Like, you were a goner. And when you got off, like, I didn't even. I didn't even have any questions about it because I'm like, yeah, I'm sure he's getting a. A validated lashing for being on the game.
Sherm
Got a text from J Rod immediately after.
Ryan Seacrest
I think I talked. I might have said something like, hey, Jerry, would you feel comfortable reaching out to old Sherm? But that would be like, you know, thinking. Listening back on all that. Like, that would be my. My advice to you.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Like, if wifey knows you're gonna take 30 minutes, it happens to be two, two and a half hours. You were about to take on night shift duty anyway.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
I wonder where the are you at? She sees you giggling, goofing with J rod. With J rod. I get that. I get that on her part.
Sherm
I get where she's coming from.
Ryan Seacrest
And, you know, don't condone hitting your animal, but that was, like, the move in the setting.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Sometimes I look at waffle, like, that's a sturdy. Bulldogs are sturdy now.
Sherm
Yeah. Dachshunds a little different.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And usually it's. Usually it's one pop, and on the button, you know, he. Sorry. He starts minding.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And the pops are very rare. As I tell this story.
Ryan Seacrest
Like.
Sherm
Yeah, I sound like I'm blind with rage.
Ryan Seacrest
You get that way, like, again, right. Wrong. Indifferent. Like that. Enraging. Blackout. That's what for the dads is for. It's to not shy away. Dude. We're human beings. Rage fills our soul at times. Dude. I'll get in standoffs with waffle. And it's. It's. And I will. I'll stand over her like this. Yeah, yeah. Like, to. Where I'll pop her and, like, you know, she'll try to get to me, but she's a bulldog, so she can't, like, reach her butt area. Where I'll, like, drag her or something.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And she'll just, like, you know, she'll want to get like, oh, we're in it. And I'm like, back to her peacocking up like, okay, yeah, you want to fight? You want to. You want to stab at me? Go ahead and try. And I, like. I'll, like. I like, stand over and just stand like this until she's, like, you know, looking at me, kind of, like, growling.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And then she'll kind of, like, turn or walk away, and I. I'll follow her. I'll follow her to the room. Or if she's, like, against the wall, I'll continue to stand over. Fists clinch. You're in my house, Waffle. Yeah. Don't you forget that.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Which way? She's barking, and I'm trying to get her in the room. It's like, I will sit there and I'll dog walk her. Like, walk her all the way to the Room.
Sherm
And I've done the Cesar Milan method, where the. You do the little that or the. It's not a full pinch, but you let them know that you're on their neck.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And you slowly push down, and you just. Pretty much like you were describing, stand over them.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Which is what I usually do with Wrigley because he's our alpha.
Ryan Seacrest
And you go a little harder because there's so much rage filling your soul.
Sherm
Oh, I bite my lip. I bite my lip. But that night, I skipped all those steps and went, or usually I'll do one of these. I'll go to let him know. Yeah, hey, Dad, I could do that.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Don't forget who the alpha is.
Sherm
And that will usually get them to be like, okay, yeah, I'm sorry.
Ryan Seacrest
Happens, man.
Sherm
Dude, the text would have been great. That's great advice. I will say this. The only thing that did come across my mind that was sane was thinking back to your New York situation and just being like, don't. Don't say anything that I will regret later.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Because New York, again, my body was filled with rage. The darkest part of my soul. To where you're, like, saying things verbally back and forth to where we're not getting nowhere. And I would just stay quiet. Oh, you want to go to bed? I gotta go to bed angry. Yeah.
Sherm
So I bit the tongue there.
Ryan Seacrest
How long we been going, chef?
Sherm
We're about 30 minutes.
Ryan Seacrest
So, buddy, in terms of. We go.
Sherm
Yeah, we got.
Ryan Seacrest
We got into crack a cold one.
Sherm
Crack a cold one.
Ryan Seacrest
My crack a cold one this week, buddy. It's. I crack a cold one. To loving the videos and photos that you get sent when you're not home. The joy that fills my heart when I'm on the road or on the plane or at the shop. I got one today that. Oh, God. I want to show you. And it's just your little. It's your little one, bro. It's your little nugget, your little booger. And they're, like, smiling. Or it's a video of them having fun. Whatever it is, dude, fills your heart with so much joy. And I love it. Like, anytime I'm around somebody and Charo or a nanny, like, shoots me a photo or a video when I'm out of the house, like, I'm just. I'm over in a corner smiling. It's. It's almost like you got to step away just to enjoy, because it's like you're not trying to be the dad that shows everybody, but then you become the dad, that shows everybody because you're so excited and you love it so much. You're like, hey, check this out. I went up to Jared earlier today because I got a video of Ay, our nanny, just sending a video.
Sherm
So you see.
Ryan Seacrest
Of little Rue just reading to Scotty. Scotty's sitting up now. She's army crawling everywhere. But rude. Just reading the.
Sherm
Scotty, send that to Chef because that. We got to play that as you just showed me that. I'll send it right now for the viewers because that was crazy cute, buddy.
Ryan Seacrest
It just. It warms my. And I'm sitting there like, Jared, he's just got dogs. He don't know what this Papa Team 6 life is like.
Sherm
What was his reaction? What was his reaction?
Ryan Seacrest
He smiled and loved it, but you know what I mean? Like, it's almost like if a dad's showing you something, you're smiling and being like, that's awesome. I don't know if he's, like, thinking, that's really awesome, but cute kid. You kind of just can't help yourself. But that's my crack. A cold one is getting those videos and photos when you're out of the house. I love that because it's just. You get it. You get when the dads back in the day and you were little, they're showing you photos in their wallet. I love it.
Sherm
I love the stories of your dad playing the wrestling videos whenever his friends would come over of you and your brothers.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, boy.
Sherm
The same thing.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Hey, Will and Cody, they're in this wrestling terminal. We want to come watch my friend. We can't even get back to my room to play video games. I'm like, dad, come on, dude. My buddy's trapped on the couch with my old man. Just watching a VHS recordings. Camera recordings of, you know, sitting Matt's side, just showing our wrestling matches.
Sherm
It's like the Jameis Winston story that I'm sure your dad's camera work is just horrendous. Like, half the time.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. My mom would be on the camera. My dad involved, like, coaching wise.
Sherm
Oh, my God.
Ryan Seacrest
You're just stuck with the old man watching full tournaments of wrestling over the weekend.
Sherm
I cannot wait.
Ryan Seacrest
I tell you what, he looks. Take your shirt off. Give him the most mustache, dude. My dad would be in front of his buddies. They'd be at the house or in the garage, and I come out and, like, say something. They might be talking about either me playing sports or. Or something.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And my dad would start talking, like, start talking about my Physique. It's like, will, pop off your shirt. Show him your most muscular. And I'm like, dad, come on, take off your shirt. Show him the most muscular. And I'm like sitting there, I like, take off. Take off my shirt in front of my dad and his boys. And I'm just like.
Sherm
What are the friends saying?
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, Billy, you're right. You got that kid, Billy. All right, you can go back in the house.
Sherm
Oh, my God, dude, show them your back. How old are you?
Ryan Seacrest
Like 10, bro. Yeah, like eight?
Sherm
Yeah. Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Nine. 10.
Sherm
Yeah. God, to be a fly on the wall.
Ryan Seacrest
And honestly, that flex is almost like a callback because there's so many of those old floors photos that would, like, my dad would like, hang in his gym or like hang around to where it's like me and Cody doing like the most muscular pose.
Sherm
You. You did it in that wrestling video that you posted. That's like my favorite part of that video is when you're standing before the match and you're.
Ryan Seacrest
We might have to have chef just run that clip.
Sherm
Yes. Too.
Ryan Seacrest

Sherm
Gatorade 0. Is it in you?
Ryan Seacrest
My dad's probably geeking watching this right now.
Sherm
Yeah, I selfishly, I cannot wait till Scarlet's, like, moving and operating and all.
Ryan Seacrest
I found myself doing with room. Like, sweetheart, look at her calves. Like, she. We might have a little athlete on our hands.
Sherm
Look at her shoulders.
Ryan Seacrest
Yes.
Sherm
That goes to my crack. A cold one. The pediatrician appointment that we had.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
She did say for her size. She was like, I'm not just saying this. She is feisty as hell. Like, she is strong. And I'm like, okay. And she's talking about the legs. I dabbled with a little bit of soccer and track back in the day, and Jill actually has some track stars on her side of the family. Like, legitimate, like, college level. I was not. But I had a little bit of speed, so hearing that, I'm like, ooh, ooh. We like that.
Ryan Seacrest
You don't. You just need another person to say. And then it kind of validates, like, maybe, yes.
Sherm
And she turned on her side, which she does all the time at the house. She turns on her side on the table, and everybody in the room was.
Ryan Seacrest
Like, she's turning on her side already.
Sherm
Oh, my gosh. I don't. I don't know any different, because I just know my warrior. That's what they're saying. And she not only turned on her side, right as they're, like, bragging about it, she then goes, like, up here, and she's, like, looking with her eyes around the room and turned on the other side. And they were like, yo, that's crazy. Like, that's crazy.
Ryan Seacrest
Just as you're changing her, just start working her legs.
Sherm
Okay?
Ryan Seacrest
So working some stretches, I'm like, I.
Sherm
Got a little striker. I got a little forward here, buddy. She's gonna be on the women's team. Come on.
Ryan Seacrest
As she continues to develop, that's like. It gets exciting.
Sherm
I'm gonna put a soccer ball at her feet. So freaking fast, dude. So fast.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. And you just kind of put a. You will play the soccer ball now. Okay. All right. You don't want to play yet, and you're just itching to see what kind of ability they might have. Sweetheart. She's been in pretty well out there.
Sherm
That has put a gold in the backyard. What's that thing? What do you do with that?
Ryan Seacrest
Put on the little blocks, like, if you go to gymnastics, like, putting out the little blocks and they're, like, balancing on each one or separate across each one. Like, she doing a little bit better than the other ones. Pretty good.
Sherm
I cannot wait. And then the crack. That was basically my cracker, Cole one. But just wanted to highlight it was so sick. Scarlett's tiny. She came out five pounds, six ounces.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, buddy. She's two weeks old.
Sherm
Oh, yeah. But just like, tiny in general. I mean, they were like, she is tiny. We go to the first appointment, she was five pounds, one ounce. And they're like, hey, normal. For baby to lose weight in that first week, we want her back to 5 pounds, 6 ounces at least. For her next appointment, she clocked in at 5 pounds, 13 ounces, 8% increase. And it's because Jill is just been a superhero on feedings. Every three hours on the clock, making sure she's getting milk. Making sure. And it's so cool in that moment to, like, see Jill, to be able to, like, reap the rewards of that. And, like, yes, I'm hard on Sherman and I want him to be attentive at night, but, like, these are the reasons why. So that Scarlett is developing well. And like, our pediatrician, Dr. Steiglfest is sitting there and going, like, a plus marks. Yeah, she's growing. She's great. Huge win.
Ryan Seacrest
Huge win. Milk Team 6 is doing their job.
Sherm
Yeah. As they always do.
Ryan Seacrest
As they always do. Survival kit. My survival kit. Once upon a farm. Once upon a farm. Snacks. Yeah. A little food. They got pouches. Once upon a farm. Look them up. Get them in your life. Let's see here. Let's. Let's just go.
Sherm
Oh, I've seen these.
Ryan Seacrest
Dude. It's got a. What's her name? Is it Jennifer Gardner?
Sherm
Oh, really? I'm a big.
Ryan Seacrest
Is that. Who is that I'm thinking of.
Sherm
I'm a big fan of Jennifer Gardner.
Ryan Seacrest
Yes, yes.
Sherm
She plays Electra.
Ryan Seacrest
Yes, yes, yes.
Sherm
Daredevil.
Ryan Seacrest
So she's part of it. They have an awesome team. Their website goes crazy, but all clean ingredients. It's like organic. They go beyond the organic standard, upholding the highest standard. Let me see here. Let me see.
Sherm
Their website is crazy. Like crazy in a good way.
Ryan Seacrest
The leader in transparency for babies to big kids. Yeah. Once upon a farm Though that's what Scotty's been crushing. Once upon a farm puffs y' all's been hitting. I guess I'll say that for a survival kit.
Sherm
Next.
Ryan Seacrest
Survival kit later. Yeah, next week or something.
Sherm
Okay.
Ryan Seacrest
But she's been crushing food, bro. Little blueberries when you squash them and put them in front of her, like she's operating with her hands, bro.
Sherm
Scotty is.
Ryan Seacrest
Scotty's operating.
Sherm
And Rue was a bit more of a picky eater.
Ryan Seacrest
No, neither of them. Rue wasn't picky when she was, like, a baby. She's picky now. They, like, get picky.
Sherm
Yeah. Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
But she's been operating with these puffs, dude. She loves them. This Once upon a farm.
Sherm
This looks sick. This looks sick. It's like in a little pouch for people that are listening. That looks squeezable.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, those squeezable pouches. They got puffs and containers. They got little bars. That's survival kit.
Sherm
That's awesome.
Ryan Seacrest
How about for you? Got to keep it under an hour.
Sherm
Gotta keep it under an hour. Mine is very broad, but mine is a good diaper bag. It came in clutch when we went to the pediatrician the other. Other day.
Ryan Seacrest
Things. Sturdy diaper bag.
Sherm
A sturdy diaper bag and one that can load up everything that you would ever need. Wipes, diapers, creams, lotions, blanket, maybe an extra set of clothes in there.
Ryan Seacrest
Do you got the. The little roll up at the bottom of the bag?
Sherm
Got the roll up for the blowout on the go.
Ryan Seacrest
Blowout on the go. I'm telling you. Been in the back of the Chevy where I have to drop the. I've dropped the tailgate. Lay out that little mat that they got in the backpacks.
Sherm
Oh, yeah. And I. I've yet to use it, but I've seen your post on it, and I'm like, I know one day I'm going to be using you. It's staring back at you. And then what? Jill went the extra step and she had the individual bags inside the diaper bag are labeled on the bag. So one bag says wipes. Other bag says diapers. Another bag says, you know, whatever it's got in there, that's the ultimate dad hack of all time. I'm operating in that diaper bag like I'm mama bear.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, Love that. So that's that survival kit.
Sherm
Yeah, that's my dad Hack Slash survival kit.
Ryan Seacrest
My dad hack is how to get. How to get your kids to eat vegetables. I came across a little dad hack a little W last night.
Sherm
Okay.
Ryan Seacrest
And we were trying to get Rudy broccoli. She'll eat her main portions. She'll eat her fruit.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
But getting her to get the veggies down has always been a pain point for us. Yeah, but what I did last night is I'm sitting there trying to talk to her about broccoli. I'm like, sweetheart, you got to eat all the different colors. Like, green is, like, the most important color to eat. Green affects your, you know, like, your brain, your heart, your muscles, your hair. She's like, in feet. I was like, your feet, too. Your feet, too. And every bite you take fills one of those checks off a box or one of that. Can we get you to eat? If you eat five pieces of broccoli, we'll do one for your hair, one for your eyes, one for your brain, one for your heart, and one for your feet. Ooh, she took them down.
Sherm
No way.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, man. Yeah. And the next night. That was two nights ago. The next night, she had broccoli again, and she didn't want to eat it. She was in the pantry, kind of be like, no, I want this snack. I want this. And I'm like, or she wanted her vitamins, because her vitamins is like gummies or whatnot.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Like a little treat, Sweetheart, you can't have your vitamins until you eat your broccoli. And then, you know, she's kind of going through it, and I had to remind her. I'm like, hey, sweetheart, what were the five things deadass said that broccoli or green helps with?
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
She's like, I don't know. You say it. I was like, remember the five things. I was like, your hair. And then she was like, my heart. I was like, your heart, your eyes, your brain. And she's like, in my feet. And I was like, you eat these couple bites right here. We check all those boxes, and we can get to your vitamins.
Sherm
Huh?
Ryan Seacrest
So that is my little dag dad hack on. How to get your kids to eat their vegetables is like naming the body parts or think whatever might get them on board for, like, hey, this is what you're helping out.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
This is how your. Your body's going to operate better because you ate these vegetables.
Sherm
I love that because she's getting an understanding of, like, what food does as well.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
It's not just to, you know, fill up your tummy. There's some nourishment there.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. They have a role.
Sherm
They do.
Ryan Seacrest
This is how it helps you out.
Sherm
I love that she have all that pretty hair.
Ryan Seacrest
You got to keep feeding. You got to keep eating your broccoli.
Sherm
I love that she's stuck on the feet though.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
She's like, no, but the feet too though.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, yeah.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Defeat too.
Sherm
Goodness. Dad, call INS.
Ryan Seacrest
Dad, call INS hotline 601 the Dads. If you are wanting to get featured on the show, call in to 601-THE DADS. Our boy chef Jack, he vets all of these calls, finds us a couple topics and plays them out loud for us for everybody to listen to. Let's dive into our first one coming from fellas, Anish here, Dixon, Tennessee.
Sherm
Anish from Dixon, Tennessee.
Ryan Seacrest
Now coming to you from Chicago. I'm a dad of two beautiful girls, five year old and a one month old. Also a fellow podcaster in the dad space. So I appreciate you guys bringing more eyes to the dad's plight in this parenting journey. Let's give a shout out to Sharon. I was listening to the latest episode when Sharon was talking about his wife asking how long the relationship recording was going to take. And I was in a similar situation myself. It's a few days after my baby girl was born. It was right before Father's Day, so I had to hop on with the.
Sherm
Boys to talk about this new bundle of joy in my life.
Ryan Seacrest
My wife asked me how long it was going to take to record. I said, sweetheart, it's only going to take 20 minutes, 25 tops. Hop on, give a quick update, hop off. An hour later goes by. I come out to screaming baby, frazzled five year old and a wife that was just staring a hole through my soul. First thing she said was, I thought it was only going to be 20 minutes. Yep, we've all been there. We've all been there. Typical dad boss. That's okay. That was on me. Hand up accountability looking back.
Sherm
So I've hopped on recording four days.
Ryan Seacrest
After my girl was born. Absolutely not. Do I regret spending quality dad time chopping it up with my best friends? Absolutely not. So sure. Hang in there brother and keep fighting the good fight rolling this stuff together. Great call from a Papa Papa Team 6 member right there.
Sherm
Great call.
Ryan Seacrest
We've been there. We've been.
Sherm
Hey, we've been there. At least you didn't hop on pubg. You know, right after the.
Ryan Seacrest
At least like podcasting, it is the work, right?
Sherm
Yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
It's like when Scotty was born. Obviously I'm taking doing all the things to, to be at home, but it's like, sweetheart, we gotta. I got a couple recordings like I have to Be at those, but have doing the podcast for however long we've been doing it. Yeah, she knows it might take a moment, but I'll give myself, you know, a cushion on when I could be home.
Sherm
For sure.
Ryan Seacrest
But we've all been in that spot.
Sherm
I'm in that spot right now. I told Jill one o' clock and then I did a fabulous move of not hitting record earlier and now we're at 150.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, I was curious too, if you had told Jill what time you'll be home because I had to push. We're, you know, I was going to go look at a site potential bus and move and I've had to push that back. I don't even know if I'll be able to get to it. But we've all been in those spots. It's like if I go to the gas station, Charles, like, what took so long? And I know in my head I'll like say, you know, it's traffic.
Sherm
I need these drivers out.
Ryan Seacrest
Here's traffic in it. 9, 8, 30, 9 o' clock at night. It's crazy. Sometimes I'll just be decompressing, like just in my truck, sitting out in the driveway.
Sherm
You do sit in your truck. Oh, yeah, that's a will move.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, that's a, that's a big time move for myself. Pull into the driveway, just sit there, think about the mission at hand.
Sherm
That's a good. We had a graphic of like top data scape places and we have like toilet, backyard, blah, blah, blah. Car is a good one, though. We didn't have that one.
Ryan Seacrest
Car is a good one.
Sherm
Anish. Correct. Anish. We'll get the spelling. Yeah, we'll get the spelling from Anish. But thank you for the call in Anish.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, Anish. Shout out you, bro. Keep fighting the good fight. Happens to the best of us.
Sherm
Happens to the best of us. In the podcast space on talking dad issue. So also shout out there. Shout out. Just being a member of PT6 and listening to us too. Yeah, you're a legend.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, sweetheart, I, I, trust me, I know. I was trying to get off in 25 minutes. I was even telling the boys, hey, I have a 25 hard out. And then one of the boys, he started breaking down and telling me something. He had something going on and I had to be there for him. She listens to the pod. You were just goofing around. But hey, you softened that moment that was happening.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love that she was just staring a hole into his soul.
Ryan Seacrest
25 minutes, huh? As the kids are just crying.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Second call in.
Sherm
Second call in. What's up boys? Will, Sherm, Chef. I'm calling from Columbus, Nebraska. My name's Cordell. I'm actually currently underneath my car trying.
Ryan Seacrest
To change the oil here.
Sherm
Going to battle there.
Ryan Seacrest
Good.
Sherm
Just wanted to give a shout out real quick. The chef sounds like he's the new producer of the show. That's awesome. Congratulations. And then obviously shout out to Sherm for the new kid. And those shout outs go in that order. By the way, I just got the text, boys. I just got the text from the wife. Her plane has officially taken off and this Papa Team 6 member has checked.
Ryan Seacrest
In for the week.
Sherm
Going solo dad duty for the week. One whole week with my three year old girl. And I guess I was just wondering, will, is there any tips you have for an extended daddy daughter time? Solo dad time. Any tips or tricks, any things that you turn to. Also additionally forgot to mention, I'm also two time member of semen team 6 with a 12 week baby on the way.
Ryan Seacrest
Let's go. Bye. Let's go. Did he say three year old girls?
Sherm
Yes, three year old girls. Oh, singular.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, one girl.
Sherm
One girl on the way.
Ryan Seacrest
Okay. I thought he might have said three year old girls like he had twins or something. So he's got one three year old girl that he's operating the entire week with.
Sherm
Yep.
Ryan Seacrest
That's awesome. Number one, hats off to Papa Team 6 member right there.
Sherm
Two time semen team.
Ryan Seacrest
Two time semen team. But his wife going away for the week and he's taken on the role, the caretaker role at home and being on the wall, being on the watch. I remember my first time when Charles went to Paris with her friends and she was gone for like. Yeah. Either a week or nine days or something like that. She gone, gone, gone, gone. And it was. Dude, honestly, some parts are easier just solo parenting. Obviously he's checking out with a week. I don't know, like what work, child care and stuff like that's involved.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
But having the one on one time with your little ones, honestly, like it's a lot of fun because it's just you and he's a girl dad, so he's spending time with his daughter. Daddy daughter time. Obviously I know the guys out there have sons and stuff like that. Like, I'm sure that's great. Appreciate you guys bragging on that stuff. But your one on one time with your daughter is a load of fun. Like, I'm sure he's listening right now. He's probably had a great week with her so far. They get in more of a routine with dad. She's about keeping that routine going. And I. My recommendation would be. Again, I said it to you earlier, but videoing a lot of stuff. I know. My first time watching Rue, I videoed a lot of different stuff that we were doing, like going into her room, see her smiling when she's waking up, putting her to bed, reading a story when we're at the coffee shop. Videoing her at the coffee shop. She was only. Like, she wasn't two yet, but videoing as much as I could because I put a little video together at the end of it, because it's just you and her. It's like your whole. All your attention's on her. And it gave me something kind of creative to do for when mom came home. That's a great time. I feel like it's a great age, too. Like, if it was just me and Rue for a week, I don't think it would. Would be too. I think it'd be fun, like, obviously, keeping her on the routine of everything. But there's a lot of those wiggle room, those little gray areas that mom and dad might be strong on. But now that you're with dad, hey, here's an extra piece of a cookie. Hey, I'll hook you up with this. Hey, let's go get some ice cream. Okay? You can stay up 20 minutes later. Hey, there's something cool on TV now for dad. We got some. We got a sport on. You want to watch with dad. You want to stay up a little bit longer, or let's pop on this movie.
Sherm
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
But they embrace it, dude. Embrace it. I. That's. I think that's cool.
Sherm
There was a video that you had, if I'm remembering correct, that Char had gone out of town, and you're with Rue, and you move some furniture, like, in your kitchen area for y' all to have, like, a little dance party. Yeah, there's some kind of little dance party that you're throwing. Love that.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Yeah, dude. It's just, you know, it's, like, a lot of times, too, like, you might come across where it's like, the mom doesn't trust it. Dad to be on his own. And so it's like a nice little badge of honor that you can watch the kids solo dolo, or you can watch the kids solo dolo.
Sherm
And that. I don't know if I talked about.
Ryan Seacrest
That on the hardest part, a prep for the meals. Prep for the dinners. Because now you'll be kind of stuck. Oh, we ain't got this. Ordering something, just being ready. It's like, oh, shoot, I got to order. I got to get the right. Because the big thing you want is you want to alleviate mom while she is gone. You don't want to be the dad checking in every five minutes. Hey, where's this at? Hey, what do I do here? Hey, what would you recommend here? I can't find this. She's giving me a tough time right now. No, let mom be fully out. Be fully to where she's thinking, is everything okay back home? And she wants to call and check in. Oh, we're having a great time. We're on FaceTime. You want mom to feel the full freedom of being away and not feel like she has to be away and have her entire pulse on everything that's going on back home.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
That's how you be prepared. That's how you knock it out of the park.
Sherm
It sounds like he's already in the thick of it, but I'm sure that he prepared and killed it.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Love that he's underneath his car too, calling us. This guy's locked in.
Ryan Seacrest
He's locked in.
Sherm
What. What was his name again? Chef. I'll play the beginning part again. Cordell. Cordell. And that was. That came in yesterday. So. So he's day one one right as we're recording this. So.
Ryan Seacrest
So he'll still be in it. He's got a couple days left.
Sherm
Yeah, let's go, Cordell.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah, let's go, Cordell. And shout out Nebraska.
Sherm
Always.
Ryan Seacrest
Love Chef. Might just be. Hey, here's a Nebraska one. Let's throw in.
Sherm
I think that's three weeks in a row. Yeah. Yeah. Not by design at all.
Ryan Seacrest
They call in not by design.
Sherm
And you're a big Vols fan. That's a pretty easy to get to.
Ryan Seacrest
I did hear Tennessee guy. First one. What do we have left?
Sherm
We have our topic quote or lesson of the week.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, do you have one?
Sherm
I did. And funny enough, it was just attention to details, attention to the small things. And I was going to apply it to at home with my daughter. But it also applies to the office, as we learned today. I was going to say my meeting with Will for my mid year review at Bussin with the BL boys was there were a lot of good things to celebrate. But one of the things that since I was a kid that I have struggled with is the attention to the details. I. The little things that you need to do. Right. Because the Big things can't happen if you aren't doing the little things right. Perfect example, publish a podcast online. You cannot do that if you do not hit the record button.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And so it's just a good reminder. And it's funny that like that happened today. That that was also my plan.
Ryan Seacrest
My lesson is attention to detail.
Sherm
I did not.
Ryan Seacrest
Well, we didn't record. We were recording for 45 minutes.
Sherm
You're going to be late to your. You probably won't even get to do the showing of the commercial space. But that was my lesson for the week. It's a quick, it's a small one, but just I love it, the attention to details. And with Scarlet, it's a good reminder.
Ryan Seacrest
You can't ever say stuff like that Enough.
Sherm
Yeah. With, with Scarlett, it's just being on, on track. With like, do we have enough diapers? Do we have enough wipes? Do we have enough this, that. Just helping mom out because she can't do it all. That's my speed run.
Ryan Seacrest
I love it. My. My lesson or topic of the week comes from Sahil Bloom.
Sherm
Oh, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
His new book, Five Types of Wealth. And he has a part in there called the Magic Years. Number one, if you're a parent, you're somebody who is ambitious, hard working, juggle both things, one perspective on life. This book I can't recommend enough. It is called Five Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom and he's somebody who has a young one too around. I want to say his son is around Rue's age. He might, he might have two kiddos now, but he's someone who's. That's like work, life, balance and having a lot of perspective. But there was this part in the book, it's called the Magic Years. So I'm going to read this part of the book called the magic years. For 10 years, you are your child's favorite person in the entire world. And then after that, children have other favorite people. Best friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, partners, and eventually their own children. But during those 10 years, you are everything to them. You occupy a unique place in their world. And it is during this period that the foundation for the parent child relationship, so central to many people's social wealth, is built. It might be a strong foundation that is likely to last for decades or a flimsy one that's likely to crumble in years. But there is one terrifying truth. By the time your children are 18, you've already used up the vast majority of the time you'll have with them. Unfortunately, we live in a society where children's early years coincide with their parents peak working hours, travel and other professional responsibilities. For many of us, these special years come and go in the blink of an eye, a blur of late nights in the office, meetings about meetings, emails at the dinner table and weekend calls. In a viral Reddit post from May 2023, a user wrote, 20 years from now, the only people who will remember that you worked late are your kids. Commenters responded with emotion filled posts such as the graveyard is full of irreplaceable and important people and I've missed so many birthdays, plays and events for work and I can't even tell you why. I don't remember what I was working on. I can't tell you why it was important. But I can tell you how my not being there made my kids feel. I am of two minds on this. One, being present and spending time with those you love is the most important thing in the end. And two, having the people you love see you work hard on things you care about is a principle they'll remember for the rest of their lives. Strong I love this book by the way. You know I saw somebody, somebody tweeted saying that he got the strong father, strong daughters. A staple in the Papa 6 Papa 6 philosophy. If you're a girl dad for sure.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
But I love five types of wealth so he'll bloom. I love his kind of description of the magic years and how we are in them and how he all him explaining also how hard it is because it's also as a young parent your peak years of work and some of those quotes that kind of give perspective on when you get to some end point or when they're grown and out of the nest of. You know, I, I can't even tell you why I was at those events for work. I, I don't remember what I was working on. I can't tell you why it was important. But I can tell you me not being there, how it made my kids feel. Just those like little things that again help you grab any perspective on what you might currently be doing and how I might currently be operating to where I need to get this in check a little bit more. How can I structure this a little bit better so you juice out and take advantage of the magic years. Being young, being a young parent, embracing the fatherhood of it all.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
With your wife, with your kids, just taking in those fleeting seconds and just trying to hold on to them a little bit longer. Videoing everything, taking as many photos as you possibly, possibly can.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
It's when I look at Scotty and I'm wanting to like, journal things down that she's doing. I'm like kicking myself because I wish I would have done that more with Rue. Like, I have some of ruse first like in my notes app. And it's like, you think in the moment I'll remember to write this down or I'll remember this because it was so glaring in this point in life. But you forget a lot of stuff. So it's like taking all those moments and in and then also having this perspective on how if you're somebody out there struggling with like, work, life, balance, hearing something like this of the magic years and just reminding you of what life is about and how you can maybe course correct in a few areas.
Sherm
I. Several things from that lesson. I'm sure my dad would say there's a lot of things that he wishes that he could change about how he raised my brother and I. Work being one of them. He felt like work really kind of took priority. However, yes, he could have put work to the side a bit more. Like in our years in high school, he would say that. But being at this age now and now having a daughter, I respect that that much more of just what he was able to provide for, for my brother and I and my mom. And like, you don't see it because he's not at home, but being on that side now, it's like, I know that there is love in that action of working hard and wanting to provide for your family and wanting to do a good job. And there is a balance to it. Like you said, there's like two schools of thoughts. Sahil. Correct.
Ryan Seacrest
So heal. Yeah.
Sherm
So he'll. There are two schools of thought, but I do think that it does show a tremendous amount of dedication and it's really cool. It's really respectable. But finding that balance, I'm sure That's hard.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, 100%.
Sherm
Especially for you, dude. You travel so much. But I feel like you do a really good job of locking in when you're home. Like, you really. It seems like that to me that you are prioritizing those moments.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Yeah. Because it's something that I'll. I'll like, battle with. Because it's like, again, bro, we won't get these years back.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Like, I know we're in the best times of our life right now. Work related, home related. It's like finding all of those. All of those balances. Because even to your example with your dad, it's like thinking about my Parents and having people that you love work hard on things.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
That they care about is a principle that I remember. It's like thinking about my mom and dad and my dad being in between jobs and working hard to get another one and not being home at times because he had the higher salary. And it's like the way we had to kind of structure everything as a middle class or lower middle class family to make ends meet. I. You understand the love that goes into it. Into that. Even though I know my dad probably has regrets that he wishes he would have been a.
Sherm
Of. Part.
Ryan Seacrest
Part of. More. Yeah, dude.
Sherm
And we will. We will too. We will too.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah. Yes. Yeah, we will as well. But it's just like those, those perspective things on knowing, like, it's like, that's why like for myself personally, what I challenge myself on is what I'm wanting to say yes to. So that way everything else I can just say no to. Like, it's an easy decision versus sitting in. Like, yeah, some opportunities will be like, yeah, this is a big opportunity. I need to take this opportunity, this opportunity in others. Or it could just be like, we can relate. And it's like, do I need this? Is this more? Because a lot of it too, in the work related stuff, it's like, selfishly, you love your work, you love doing.
Sherm
All of these things and we have a fun job.
Ryan Seacrest
And we have a fun job. But it's like, hey, do I need to do this? And is this going to actually move the needle or am I just wanting to do this selfishly? Am I wanting to do this just to get away? Or whatever it is? Sometimes it might be that way. Way. And that's like a good communication with my wife. Like, hey, I need to go, I need to do something or I need to go get out or whatever it is. Oh, buddy. He was talking about a Dennis Rodman weekend. But it helps me compart. Compartmentalize. It helps me compartmentalize a lot of those things that I can easily say no to and be like, yeah, I don't, I don't care to do that. Like, that would be fun. But I'd rather be home. Because, dude, he talks about 10 years. And you can, you can break the numbers down however you want, but it's like in those 10 years, that's what, once. One summer per year, that's what, 40 summers.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
When they're little and you have them all to yourself and they think you're an absolute superhero. Let's just say five, Right. Five summers that you have Five potential opportunities to go on summer vacations. You know, you'll, you'll feel this. Having Scarlett as. How, how old is she?
Sherm
Two weeks.
Ryan Seacrest
Scotty is in, she's eight months old. And so she's eight months old for this moment. Time. They grow fast.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Like you were saying, you saw the picture of a newborn and three month old. It's like they're just different people.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
They grow fast and there's such fun moments in those. When you're checking off 8 months, 9 months, 10 months, it's like Rue, I can remember when her personality was coming to life at 16 months when her personality was coming to Life at month 16. There's only four weekends that she's going to be 16 months old. And each chapter is something different. And that's like how I try to compartmentalize it in my brain when breaking down all these things. It's like some things we're just going to have to do. This is what we do with busting with the boys. This is how it works. Going to have to be in these times. But everything else, it's like I try to have that perspective of, you know, she's only going to be two for one year. She's only going to be this three year old. This three major year when I just wanna. For one year.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
You know what I mean? And then it's gone, it's fleeting.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
And I never want to be in a spot to where I'm looking back like I, why did I go and do this? When it's like I look at Scotty and I have so much more appreciation of like living in her 8th place month old body right now because I remember how fun it was with Ru and I'm experiencing new things with Scotty at 8 months old. And I feel like I have more of an appreciation in those moments because it's like the perspective of she's only going to be eight months old for one month.
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
It's going to be four weekends we have with her in this age. And I wanted. And you want to take advantage.
Sherm
Yeah. If this scores you points at home, I hope it does. But you can see it written all over you and Taylor as well. Whenever we are traveling, you guys get homesick.
Ryan Seacrest
Oh, buddy.
Sherm
And I've yet to experience that because I haven't had to travel for work yet with Scarlet here now. But I, I feel it even in moments like this of like, you do want to be home. And so I, I do think on the other side of it, like the work side of it. It does show your love that much more that it's like, hey, we have to do these things.
Ryan Seacrest
Right. You're tea like you're subconsciously wiring in their brain. When you commit to something and you want something and you're ambitious for something, like staying on course and showing that resilience, Showing that perseverance. Yeah. And that working. Just that working attitude about it. Yes, it shows that too. It's like we're obviously going to get old and we're all going to wish we spent every moment at home.
Sherm
Oh, yeah, dude.
Ryan Seacrest
But that just like that comes with it. But you're right. It's like we get on the road and going at football season this year and spring tour and stuff next year. It's like now we're in a spot to where we're healthy in such a way. To where it's like, I want us to fly private so that way we can squeeze every moment. Like, how can we leave the day of and also come back the day of?
Sherm
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
So we're not stuck figuring out all these different flights delays happen. All these other things. Yeah. Hotel rooms. It's like, how do we get in and get out? It's quite quickly as possible. That comes at a cost. It comes at a big cost. But it's like when we're making this, it's like, hey, we can just cut this chunk out and be like, we're doing this because we want the full priority being how do we be efficient and maximize our opportunities with these things with busing, but also maximize and be efficient with our opportunities at home to be with our family.
Sherm
Well, and the power of no too, like to just bring it to myself of yet another thing I can learn. What we talked about, my mid year review of like, that is something I struggle with so badly.
Ryan Seacrest
Stop saying yes to so many things I say behind everything.
Sherm
And I got to work on saying no because, like, that will come in the way of me spending time with Jill and with Scarlett.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
And being able in those moments to be like, hey, I can't go on that golf trip. That sucks.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
I see all the pictures. They look like they're having a blast.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
Wish I could be doing that. But I'm doing something incredible in this moment too. Like my daughter's coming in into the world later this month or whatever.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Sherm
There was a great wedding. One of my close friends shout out, Andre that it was out of the country, would have loved to be there. And you see all the pictures, you're like, oh, man. But it's also like, hey, we're doing something big here too.
Ryan Seacrest
It's, it's tough. It's like, I think the nature in all of us is we're all, you know, we want, we're like people pleasers, right? You want to please everybody. And then you realize when you're trying to please everybody, you see where you can't pour into the things that you absolutely prioritize in your life and you see how it affects that. And then you feel so spread thin and stressed about it when it's like, okay, let's just think about the things that I want to do. How can I prioritize this? How can I structure it? And then that helps you say no. You understand, like where your boundaries are.
Sherm
Yeah.
