If you ever felt like you're on the content hamster wheel, posting just to keep up, the rule of three is going to change how you create forever. What's up, everybody? It's Kaitlyn Rhodes and I'm so excited to share a content strategy that has completely transformed how I show up online and how my clients do too. It's called the rule of three and it's how I take one idea and I turn it into three high performing reels without burning out or reinventing the wheel every single time. If you've ever felt like you're constantly chasing content stuck on what to post next, or maybe you're just overwhelmed by reels, I promise this will make things go so much easier for you. So let's just dive in. Who's ready? The rule of three is simple. Okay? Instead of creating a different reel from scratch every single time, you're going to take one clear idea and you're going to repurpose it into three types of reels. So this breaks up into three different things. Trending audio reel, talking head reel, and a music hook value and caption reel. So the trending audio reel, this one's for reach. You're going to use a popular trending audio sound. Add short text over your video and tap into that Explore page momentum. The next one, talking head reel, you're going to keep this under 30 seconds. Okay? This is your authority reel. You face the camera, you share a tip or a story or an insight. It's quick, it's confident, and it builds trust. The music hook value and caption reel, this one grabs attention visually, but it puts all the value in the actual caption of the reel. It's great for saves, shares, deeper engagement. Each reel hits a different type of audience. That's why it's so powerful. People who like to be entertained, those who want to learn fast, and then those who prefer to read and and absorb. Let me give you an example of how you can actually use the rule of three. Let's say your core idea is how to sell in stories without feeling sleazy. Here's how that becomes three different reels. The first one is the trending audio reel. So you're going to find a trending sound that has under 10,000 uses. If you have a hard time finding trending sounds, you can always join Club Influence because we send you trending audio every single Monday straight to your inbox. So you're going to use that trending audio less than 10,000 uses and you're going to record yourself doing the trend while you promote your idea. So maybe your hook says something like selling in stories used to feel awkward until I did this. And then you go into whatever it is that helps people sell in stories without feeling sleazy. The next one Talking head reel. Here's how I sell my Instagram stories without sounding pushy. I pretend I'm talking to one friend who needs to hear what I offer. I I keep it real casual and clear. All of the info for that is right in that talking head reel. I would keep those talking head reels under 30 seconds because I've noticed when they go over 30 seconds they don't perform that well. But if you have trouble like scripting stuff like this, you can always put it into chat GPT and ask for a script. But keep it under 30 seconds. They're going to get all the value by hearing you talking about that subject. And then example reel number three for the music hook caption reel on text you're going to have or on your screen you're going to have the text that says three ways I sell in stories without sounding salesy. And maybe it's like a 7 second B roll video clip with audio attached. Your caption is going to be where they will read those three tips and then you're of course you're going to have your call to action which is like a D.M.E. the word blank. And I'll send you my course on selling in stories without sounding sleazy. This is one idea that we've turned into three different reels. So there's three chances for for you to be discovered. Three ways for you to explain this idea and it helps you get unstuck. Now one thing I want to talk to you guys about which I have a full episode on this too. It's called the rule of seven. I'll link it in the show notes. You should definitely listen to it after this episode. People need to hear from you seven times minimum if you want them to buy the thing. So they need to see it seven times. They need to hear it, feel it, understand it seven times. So the rule of three, you know, now you only got four more times to post about it, but you need to post about it consistently. Why does this work so well? It's because people consume content differently. So instead of you just pushing down their throat every single day the same idea, you're breaking it up into three different ideas. So it doesn't sound like you're being salesy, but you're reiterating the same idea three different ways. Some people need to see the hook. Some. Some people need to see your face. Some people need to hear you explain it in words. Some people need to read it from the caption, whatever it is. The algorithm loves variety. So this is only going to help your videos if you break it up in these three different ways. Most importantly with all of this is you stay visible. Visible without burning out, right? So the rule of three helps you show up consistently. Stretch that one idea way further, build trust faster, and you're going to increase your chances of being seen and remembered. This strategy has helped me grow a multi six figure business and my clients use it to simplify their content process while still driving results. So here's how to implement this whole idea. I want you to brainstorm one core idea each week, usually a problem that your audience is facing with. And then you're going to batch create these three real formats back to back. The reason I want you to batch create them is because you're gonna have all the information at once and it's just going to be easier to record it all seamless. You'll save time and you'll like be in that zone, right? And then once you've recorded them all, you can then schedule them or post them like either three days in a row or maybe schedule them one on Monday, one on Wednesday, one on Friday. So you have like a day apart between them all. But this gives you a content system that's repeatable, it's scalable, it's not a just a one off tactic. It's going to take, you know, know we, we as business owners get decision fatigue all the time. So you're taking a little bit off of that. If you only post three times a week, this method could literally be your full strategy. And I tell you guys all the time, if you just need a maintenance schedule three times a week, this is it. This is all your content that you need. So here's what I want you guys to remember. The rule of three isn't just a content hack. It's a CEO level system. You do not need more content ideas, you need better execution of the ones you already have. And if you want to superch your real strategy with all of this, you can always grab my Instagram growth starter pack. I'm going to put it in the show notes. It includes my full reels challenge which breaks the rule of three down even further. I also include my three hooks that are a non negotiable when it comes to recording reels. You have scripts and you will just be able to record with ease and not overwhelm. Because Instagram is not meant to overwhelm you. It's supposed to be this free, fun resource to to promote your brand. So thanks y' all for letting me share the rule of three. I cannot wait to see you guys in action. If you are listening to this episode today on your money walk, I hope you will snap a selfie, post it to your stories. Tag me. I'll share it on in my stories too. Bonus point if you do a screenshot of this episode so others will know what to tune into. All right, guys, I will see y' all next week.
Episode Summary: Ep 74 – How to Turn 1 Idea Into 3 Viral Reels (Using the Rule of 3)
Call Her Creator with Katelyn Rhoades
Release Date: June 10, 2025
In Episode 74 of Call Her Creator, host Katelyn Rhoades delves into a transformative content strategy designed to revolutionize how creators approach their Instagram presence. Titled "How to Turn 1 Idea Into 3 Viral Reels (Using the Rule of 3)," Katelyn introduces the Rule of 3, a method that allows creators to maximize their content output without the burnout often associated with constant posting.
Katelyn begins by addressing a common pain point among creators: the content hamster wheel—the exhausting cycle of producing new content incessantly to stay relevant. She introduces the Rule of 3 as a solution to this dilemma, explaining:
"Instead of creating a different reel from scratch every single time, you're going to take one clear idea and you're going to repurpose it into three types of reels."
— Katelyn Rhoades [00:30]
This approach involves distilling a single core idea into three distinct reel formats, each tailored to engage different segments of the audience.
Trending Audio Reel (Reach)
"You're going to use a popular trending audio sound. Add short text over your video and tap into that Explore page momentum."
— Katelyn Rhoades [02:10]
Talking Head Reel (Authority)
"This is your authority reel. You face the camera, you share a tip or a story or an insight. It's quick, it's confident, and it builds trust."
— Katelyn Rhoades [03:00]
Music Hook Value and Caption Reel (Engagement)
"This one grabs attention visually, but it puts all the value in the actual caption of the reel. It's great for saves, shares, deeper engagement."
— Katelyn Rhoades [04:20]
To illustrate the Rule of 3, Katelyn provides a concrete example:
Core Idea: How to sell in stories without feeling sleazy.
Trending Audio Reel:
Talking Head Reel:
Music Hook Value and Caption Reel:
"This is one idea that we've turned into three different reels. So there's three chances for you to be discovered. Three ways for you to explain this idea and it helps you get unstuck."
— Katelyn Rhoades [06:00]
Katelyn briefly touches upon another strategic concept, the Rule of 7, which complements the Rule of 3. She emphasizes the importance of consistent exposure:
"People need to hear from you seven times minimum if you want them to buy the thing. So they need to see it seven times."
— Katelyn Rhoades [07:15]
While the Rule of 3 focuses on content diversification, the Rule of 7 ensures that the core message is reinforced sufficiently to drive conversions.
The effectiveness of the Rule of 3 lies in its ability to cater to different content consumption preferences:
"The algorithm loves variety. So this is only going to help your videos if you break it up in these three different ways."
— Katelyn Rhoades [09:00]
Katelyn outlines a step-by-step process for integrating the Rule of 3 into your content strategy:
Brainstorming:
Batch Creating:
Scheduling Posts:
"The reason I want you to batch create them is because you're gonna have all the information at once and it's just going to be easier to record it all seamlessly."
— Katelyn Rhoades [10:30]
Benefits of this approach include:
Katelyn emphasizes that the Rule of 3 transcends being a simple content hack; it's a CEO-level system for effective content management and business growth.
"The rule of three isn't just a content hack. It's a CEO level system. You do not need more content ideas, you need better execution of the ones you already have."
— Katelyn Rhoades [12:00]
She encourages listeners to leverage this strategy to build trust, increase visibility, and maintain a sustainable content creation process. Additionally, Katelyn offers supplementary resources, such as her Instagram Growth Starter Pack, which includes detailed challenges and scripts to facilitate the implementation of the Rule of 3.
Katelyn wraps up the episode by motivating listeners to take immediate action:
"I hope you will snap a selfie, post it to your stories. Tag me. I'll share it on my stories too. Bonus point if you do a screenshot of this episode so others will know what to tune into."
— Katelyn Rhoades [14:30]
By adopting the Rule of 3, creators can streamline their content creation process, enhance their online presence, and ultimately transform their passion into a profitable venture. Episode 74 serves as a valuable guide for anyone looking to optimize their Instagram strategy and achieve sustainable growth without sacrificing their well-being.
