Yeah, I was with my mom.

Wait a second. This whole time, I pictured your nice clean floors in your house.

It was post strike. Capshaw had not been working.

Had lost her health insurance. My SAG health insurance. I'd lost.

Well, that wasn't a good idea to kiss the ground. That's how great you picked up some from Los Angeles. And now you're. Now you're in the er. Your lips are the size of the moon.

You got no insurance.

[Camilla Luddington]

You've got no insurance.

You got no way to pay.

I. I do. I remember. I remember. I was so excited, but I was also terrified. It moved very, very quickly for me. Okay. Most awkward scene you had to film.

Oh. Oh, I'm not getting one coming to mind right away.

[Camilla Luddington]

I think for me, honestly, it's a scene that we watched recently, which is where, like, I have to undress. I'm drunk. So I was like in my underwear drunk, falling on a bed, laughing. There's a fight that happens. Like, I think that would like the combo of. That was probably one of the most awkward scenes I'd ever shot.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Well, and this is nothing that anyone ever wants to hear. And I've actually never heard someone who has our job say anything different.

[Camilla Luddington]

This. The.

The sex scenes, like the. Any kind of romantic scene. It's just never what you. You want it to look so sexy.

[Camilla Luddington]

Sure.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Never. It's like your head, like you have to. You have to choreograph it. You have to feel like, is my head going to the left or the right? Because it's not. Oh, it's so.

No, it's a little fumbly.

And then you gotta, like, five, six, seven, eight.

I would say any sex scene is probably. Yeah. In general, I'd say they're the most awkward. Although I did see this interview with Dakota Johnson, and she was talking to Amy Poehler, and she was. Was like, totally chill. Like, yeah, it's just another day in the office. And I was like, wow. I don't.

I feel like she's got that on lockdown. I think, like, am I. Am I right in saying her first, like, big movie was 50 Shades, right?

[Camilla Luddington]

Yeah. Yeah.

Well, I mean, if you're gonna start somewhere, you're supposed to there, and then anything else seems like child's play.

That's true. That's true.

Right? So maybe she's like. She's like, yeah, got it. Got it.

Do you think it's, like. Do you think it's easier to do love scenes as you get older or as you're younger?

I haven't done a love scene in a long time, so I don't know.

Wait. I wanted to say what my funniest one was. And this is, like, for this true gray.

[Camilla Luddington]

Oh, yeah.

Every single episode. Because you'd have to really mine for this episode. Episode. But do you remember when there was an episode where there was a patient who looked like a cat?

[Camilla Luddington]

Yes. Oh, my God. Yes.

Okay.

And he really did in real life, right?

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yeah, it was a true story. And there was a scene where he comes around the corner and, like, jump scares Arizona.

[Camilla Luddington]

Yes.

And she screams.

We didn't get through one take of that without. I actually. My memory was actually. Everyone on the crew was laughing. Like, we had to get ourselves back together because for some reason, there was something that I was doing with my face. Or in real life. I don't know what it was, but it was the funniest. We were in. We were. Everyone was on the floor.

[Camilla Luddington]

Oh, my God. That's amazing. I definitely remember that episode. Okay. Best memory of Grey's. Honestly, some of my best memories are in your trailer.

[Jessica Capshaw]

So true.

[Camilla Luddington]

Like, great memories, like, in your trailer, hanging out, chilling. Because you Guys don't know. I mean, maybe we've talked about this before. Jessica redid her trailer, and so her trailer looked like something out of like this beautiful magazine. And my trailer was basically a closet. Like a dumping ground. Right. Like, I just throw my bag in and leave there, like four cobwebs and flies still in there. And I love them because they're my pets now. But so we would convene. Never in my trailer. Always in your trailer. And it was like, so every lunchtime it was like, let's. If we were working together, we're like, let's go.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yeah. Well, when. When I first started, you know, graze is graze. You don't know how long you're staying. It's moment to moment business. Yeah.

[Camilla Luddington]

Like, yeah. Am I.

[Jessica Capshaw]

What's going to happen? Who knows?

[Camilla Luddington]

Yeah.

[Jessica Capshaw]

So I think the first couple of years, I was just sort of like, I'd come in and. And you keep it nice enough. But I was having. I was. I mean, I don't know, do the math. I was having a baby pretty much every other year. Yeah, I was. And I was there a lot. And I think it was probably right around when I. I think I probably renegotiated my contract. I probably was feeling a little like I had some extra, extra bucks. Extra, extra dollars to like.

[Camilla Luddington]

Yeah. You were also bringing your kids in more. Yes, I was.

[Jessica Capshaw]

And a couple people had done it where they had redone the inside of their trailers. And I. I honestly, I didn't even know you could.

[Camilla Luddington]

No, I didn't know either.

[Jessica Capshaw]

So when I saw that what was possible, I thought, oh, yeah, for sure. Let's do this. So, yeah, I painted my cabinetry and I. I put in like, you know.

[Camilla Luddington]

Real furniture and light fixtures and change, things like that. Wait, I have a question now because now that you don't get to take that trailer with you, that trailer is not on 91 1. Nashville. Did not get driven down the freeway to Nashville. Okay.

[Jessica Capshaw]

That is. That is Grey's Anatomy property.

[Camilla Luddington]

Do you regret doing your trailer? Because then you had to just leave all these beautiful things for somebody else.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Well, I mean, do we want to tell the real story where when I left, I was like, take my trailer, Camilla. And what did you say to me?

[Camilla Luddington]

Absolutely not.

[Jessica Capshaw]

I tried to give you all the nice things.

[Camilla Luddington]

That's true. That we have never talked about this before. When Jessica left, she was like, you can take my trailer. Because she knew I was.

[Jessica Capshaw]

You have all these beautiful memories in. I was like, take my beautiful memories. Yes.

[Camilla Luddington]

And it was and it's truly way more beautiful than my trailer. And. And, you know, she knew I was living with the flies. And I said, no, no, never, ever. I just couldn't do it. It felt really wrong. It felt really not okay to take it. And I didn't. I didn't. I did not want it. And so I'm still with the flies. Can I tell you something that you don't remember?

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yeah.

[Camilla Luddington]

Okay. So I saw everyone's trailer being done, and I said, matt, what's something very minimal we can do? Okay. And he was like, I'll come and I'll paint your trailer while you're pregnant. Right. You probably don't remember this, Jazz, you remember it, do you?

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yep.

[Camilla Luddington]

So Matt comes and paints my trailer. And I'm in there. Like, I'm in there looking around, you know? No. No safety mask on or anything. And Jess, like, I go to set. Jess is like, camilla, have you checked to see if that paint is, like, not toxic and not, like, a poisonous paint that will potentially kill you? And I was like, no, I've been in there sniffing the walls. Now, in Matt's defense, he had done the work, but I absolutely would have painted, like, a lead paint situation all over my trailer. And I was, like, so proud of it as I was going up. I'm like, let me just really smell this.

This. Is this why we're besties? We're here for each other?

[Camilla Luddington]

Exactly.

I want. I want a piece of that hospital so bad. And I would not have signed your.

I would run with my wing. I don't know why I turned this into the most insidious storyline when I take 50 of Jackson Avery's money.

I had a situation. I was in a situation recently where there was. I. Because I'm not a first responder in the show, but someone was doing medical, and I did actually have a moment where I was like, that's not how I would do that.

Like, you might want to check your work. But then the other thing that I. I don't know if you've ever heard this, but I've heard from people that are in the medical world that. That love watching Grays, that the most common mistake that they see on Grays is doctors wearing their stethoscope backwards.

Shut up. I've never heard that.

[Jessica Capshaw]

I'm sure I've done it, oh, a hundred times.

[Camilla Luddington]

In this moment. I'm thinking it's stethos. It's the circle part here and the blah, blah, blah on this side.

Okay. Jess, someone asked what's been your favorite moment filming 911 Nashville so far, and what are you most excited about next? I know you have to be really careful. Jessica has to be super careful right now about spoilers, because we haven't aired yet. We can get more into it when it's airing.

I think it's been really exciting. I've said this before, but, you know, Gray's is a Show where you really. The bulk of your work is on the studio. At the studio and on our. Already built.

[Camilla Luddington]

So in the hospital.

[Jessica Capshaw]

And it's been very exciting in the exciting category. It's been exciting to be on location.

[Camilla Luddington]

Yeah.

[Jessica Capshaw]

And all that comes with it. Right. The sort of unpredictable nature of it. There's actual real life happening, so there's sounds and there's wind and there's weather.

[Camilla Luddington]

Do you have fans yet, like outside, like waving and stuff, saying hi yet?

[Jessica Capshaw]

No, but there was a day that we closed down a bridge and so we were there and there was a lot of people on the. On the other bridge that were kind of like trying to figure out what was going on and what we were doing.

[Camilla Luddington]

And that's always cute when you see people like kind of coming to watch and they're excited to watch. I think I saw a clip of you on the bridge in the trailer.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yeah, yeah, right.

[Camilla Luddington]

And you're like looking up at something, am I right? I'm trying to remember now.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yeah, yeah. You get.

Jess, how has life in Nashville changed your routine or inspired any new hobbies, like line dancing? I love that they added that, like line dancing.

I have not gone line dancing yet. I think, you know, I love country music and I listen to it regularly, but there I listen to it more. And so I think that's definitely influenced. And then I think, because, you know, my. My kids have come a couple times, but most of the time when I go, I'm on my own. Uh, and that, I mean, you know, as a mom, like, it's. It's interesting because I was talking about this with the kids. Normally you go and do your job and then you come home and you go right back into your mom routine. It's been an interesting experience to. You know, I go there for periods of time and it's just all work. So there's actually nothing else being expected of me besides Jessica who goes to work. And. And that's been a different and interesting experience. But then that on the. On the flip side of that, which what I've said to my kids, when I come home, I'm literally all theirs, probably they want me to be like, I'm like, what do from morning till night?

[Camilla Luddington]

Yeah. No, I love. I love that so much. I think I also wonder, like, I haven't had that experience, but I wonder if when you're at work and then you're just Jessica, there's almost like a recalibration situation that happens because you're like, wait, it's just me. Like, it's usually me. And, and, and plus, plus, plus. And then maybe it's kind of a little freeing because you're like, I get to do.

[Jessica Capshaw]

I want to go get coffee right now?

[Camilla Luddington]

I guess I do.

Like, I think I would know what to do with that.

Yeah. Yeah. It has been so. So, yeah, there's a little bit more of. There's a lot of me time. I mean, a lot of me time at work. I actually went to go set an alarm. I'm home right now. And I went to go set an alarm for. I don't know, whatever, wake up. And I don't know about. On your phone, but I have so many alarms. Alarms is how I actually run my life. Like, I. Because I just. I can't be trusted to know where I'm going next. And there's so many different places I'm going. So I set my alarms and when I went to go set my morning alarm, it was towards the top, obviously, because they go in sequence. Yeah, I saw my top earliest alarm was for 3:15am and I was like, I'm really glad I'm not pushing the toggle on that one.

No, absolutely not. 3:15. What's the earliest you've had to wake up this week for Grace? I've had to wake up at 4:30.

[Jessica Capshaw]

3:15 is actually the earliest I've ever woken up for anything in my life. Like, any. I mean, travel, work.

Yeah.

[Jessica Capshaw]

A response like, that's the earliest I've ever set an alarm for. I think that's probably why I kept it there. I was like, just remember you did that.

[Camilla Luddington]

Just remember those days. Yeah, absolutely. All right, let's hop into personal life. People have sort of like personal life questions for us.

Well, I have a question because, you know, this is always the gift that keeps on giving. It's even better than the good ones. What's the worst date that you've ever been on?

[Camilla Luddington]

Yeah, we have. We have been asked that. It's funny because there are. I mean, it's from. It's a Choose your own adventure in my.

[Jessica Capshaw]

I'll give a little.

[Camilla Luddington]

A little Juice. I. I did date somebody who is very famous. And I say date. This is like a couple dates. And it was the worst date I ever went on because I thought it was just a one on one date. And I got into the car and I was like, kind of excited to get to know them. And they were like, we're gonna go to a Hollywood party. And I was like, oh, God. I knew in that moment that basically, like, it was done and we were taken to a couple's house that are still together. They're very famous together. They were secretly dating at the time. And they had this absolutely massive house in the hills. And just everybody who was anybody was like there. And we got there and he ditched me. He went. And I think in my mind I was like, I think you're trying to look cool by going and like schmoozing with people and then like coming back to me. But I didn't know anybody at this party. And everyone was like. And at one point he was like, hey, you want to go smoke pot? And I was like, I didn't because I knew I'd have a panic attack. Like, you really don't know me. I will have an anxiety attack and an ambulance will be here and ruin this whole party. And so I just remember being in a room at one point and everyone was like passing a joint around that was like, yeah, this is so cool. And I was like, you know, it would come to me and I'd like to pass it over to the next person. And I remember just being very afraid of, like, the second hand high I could potentially be getting in the room. So that was definitely the worst day. I was ditched at this hall. There's nothing. There's no place I'd rather be less than some Hollywood Hills. Yeah, everyone feels really cool party. There you go.

[Jessica Capshaw]

You took me straight back to my early 20s. And you're right, there's a. That one hits in a really specific way. But clearly you can only know. I mean, listen, here's the.

[Camilla Luddington]

It's a certain vibe.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yeah. But there's also that party. Whether it's like the cool Hollywood Hills party or it's just basically whoever thinks they're cool in your world party. It's just. It's that. It's that aspect, like being in a space where you know that everybody thinks that they're super cool.

[Camilla Luddington]

Awful. It's. It's an immediate turn off.

[Jessica Capshaw]

And I too also tried to figure out how to not do the drug that.

[Camilla Luddington]

That anyone was that everyone else is.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Doing 20s, but like, the. The lengths that you would go through to not do it. But look, yes, this is the insecure part that you. You wanted to look like you were, but then everyone. Everyone was.

[Camilla Luddington]

I wanted to look like I wasn't. Here's what. Here's what was going through my head. I wanted to look like I wasn't judgy of it, right? Because it's like, I'm cool. Like, this is legal. It's whatever. I'm whatever.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Legal. I'm whatever.

[Camilla Luddington]

I also was like, I. Go ahead. I. This will give me anxiety and I will think I'm dying. And so just breathe very lightly. You're like barely breathing. You get a strongly breathed secondhand smoke. I also didn't want to leave him.

[Jessica Capshaw]

He was. I didn't know anybody else.

[Camilla Luddington]

I was like, it was honestly nightmare. It wasn't like a networking event.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Being ditched by a date is definitely.

[Camilla Luddington]

Multiple times during the night. Oh, okay.

[Jessica Capshaw]

I have a question. How back. Back again, back in the day for us. But did you ever have. And like, did you ever have a hard time working up the courage to go and ask someone out or, like, engage or have a conversation with someone? I just was talking about this with one of my daughters.

[Camilla Luddington]

There was a guy that I thought was, like, very sweet, and I had just gone through a breakup, and I was like, you know what? Like, I should just put myself out there and like, he's a nice guy. Like, he's a safe guy to be. Like, hey, do you want to go out on a date? Like, I wasn't super into or anything. And. And so I just was like, hey, like, if you want to grab a drink, like, let me know. And he was like. And I could tell by his that he did not want to ever go out on drink for a drink with me. And. And then I felt like I needed to say, like, listen, I'm not actually interested. But then I couldn't say that part.

[Jessica Capshaw]

We were interested enough to ask. And he knew that I want to.

[Camilla Luddington]

Be like, listen, I'm just trying to, like, get back out there a little bit. Like, this is. You know, so I had to eat crow on that one a little bit. No. But then. Then the real person I ended up like, declaring my love to was Matt. And that was real. And that. That I did put myself out there. I definitely was like, I love you. And thank God he said it back.

[Jessica Capshaw]

I would always imagine. I would just always imagine that the answer was going to be yes. Even if it wasn't. That's how I drum up the courage, I'd be like, yeah, the answer is definitely yes.

[Camilla Luddington]

Well, that's how I felt with this guy. I was like, this is like just.

You know, go into it thinking it's going to be a yes, 100 courage to go. And then no, you're like, well, then, now I just have to work on recovering.

I mean, luckily for me, it was, it was very low stakes.

Mine's a little more high stakes. I asked a guy out like, fresh.

And had to spend the next three years. Like every time I saw him, I was reminded of the rejection.

Well, okay, I was in LA for work, and I was sitting outside of the hotel I was staying in, and Derek Huff pulled up in his car and walked into the hotel. Yeah, I didn't lose my mind, but I'm not like, I'm still in. No matter how many people you meet or where you are, whenever you see people that are sort of in a television for you, like.

The one that you're used to seeing up close on a television, and then all of a sudden they're right there in the wild walking by you. There's a level of excitement, like a level of, like.

I think what happens when you're in our industry as you do, you're, you, like, you have seen out, like, the, you know, the Robert Downey Juniors and the Ben Afflecks and all the, you know, on Angela and Jolie and, and so it's almost like it sort of becomes not normal, but, like, I don't know. I think, I think, honestly, actually DiCaprio, I think if I, I think Leonardo DiCaprio just purely from, like, an artistic point of view, because I think he's just mind blowing as an actor. I think I would feel that way about DiCaprio, who you've met, right? Like, you've. Yeah, yeah. Okay. If you weren't an actress, what would be your dream job?
