Not just 20 seasons. 20 years. Like there's been 20 years since the first episode aired.

Yeah. So when the first episode aired, I was. So, let me think. I was 21.

21. I could legally drink for the first time.

When Gray's aired, I was. Well, the math would be math at 28. And I had. And I was a series regular on a show called the Practice, and it was concluding. And I read the pilot for surgeons and I couldn't go out for it because I think that I was still under contract and I. Like, our show was on the bubble.

[Camilla Luddington]

Oh, well, people don't know what the bubble means. We should explain.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Was maybe gonna get picked up and maybe not. So I wasn't really a free agent and so I couldn't really go out for pilot season, which is why I didn't. Um. Yeah, I wonder. I would have. I think I probably would have auditioned for Izzy back then.

[Camilla Luddington]

Oh, yeah.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yeah.

[Camilla Luddington]

You would have auditioned for Izzy.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yeah. But I remember watching it and I remember being in love with it. I mean, love, love, love. I remember the original intro, the music. Who doesn't love that music? And it gave me all the feels. And I also felt like. I've said this many times. It's just. It was the perfect. Like, the hook at the end hooked me real good.

[Camilla Luddington]

You're talking about the Addison Montgomery showing.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Up and her going to work with her one night stand after. She unceremoniously was like, get the flock out of here.

Yes.

And she's like, oh, you're my boss.

Yes. And you know what's really funny is I was scrolling on TikTok or something the other day, like, literally two days ago, and that scene came up between Ellen and. And Patrick, and it's so. They're both so good and their chemistry is so excellent. Like, it's instantly juicy. And they're smiling during, Like, I was thinking, like, how would I play this? I'm not sure I would have played it the way Ellen played it. And Ellen played it so perfect. She was like smiling. Drew lines that, like, you would smile through. And it's just. I think they're just feeding off of each other. Yeah. That's all you needed. That scene was all you needed to probably ever pitch any show was I'm like, I'm in instead.

And you're right. But both of them so winning in the romantic aspect of it. But Christina was so, like the anti hero. Right. She just was just like.

She was dark and twisty.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yes. And she was cutthroat and she was everything that you would be in medical school. Yeah. And it surpassed ER as The longest running medical show.

[Camilla Luddington]

It's insane. But also, I have to say, because we're on the heels of news that came out 212 hours, 40 minutes ago. I got a phone call from our showrunner, Meg, before we got the news, but that it came up publicly that we were picked up. We actually been picked up for our 22nd season, which is insane because in this day and age, this is. It's not an easy task for any series to first off to have a pilot. ABC has no pilots this year, which is insane.

[Jessica Capshaw]

That's crazy. This is huge. Congratulations.

[Camilla Luddington]

But for a series to go straight to series is like an anomaly. Just doesn't happen. Like it's so hard. So. But yeah, so I'm excited for the fall lineup.

[Jessica Capshaw]

2025 fall lineup, ABC.

[Camilla Luddington]

I think it might be a good one.

[Jessica Capshaw]

I think it's gonna be a good one. I think we're gonna have some fun things to watch. Okay, so what else is there? So I also heard something. Speaking of the og, Speaking of the original cast members. I was a die hard for Denny and Izzy. And I really have to say I happened upon. I went into the TV room and Eve has gotten to my season. And I walked in and it was there. I was on the screen and it was a scene. And I forgot that when I first came.

[Camilla Luddington]

Yes, he was a ghost. Is it easy? Notorious, like ghost sex season, which is not really ghost sex. It's like she's having, you know.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yes, it is.

[Camilla Luddington]

It's ghost sex. It's referred to in the Phantom as ghost sex. For sure.

[Jessica Capshaw]

Yes. But I remember. And I was watching it with you, of course. Of course. I had to stay and wash myself. I was talking to Heigl in the scene and I remembered Jeffrey Dean's in the scene. And it was so hard to shoot because you weren't supposed to hear him. But you had to wait for his line to be over to say your next line.

[Camilla Luddington]

That's true.

[Jessica Capshaw]

And I kept looking at him and they're like, you can't see him. And I was like, I'm new.

[Camilla Luddington]

I'm just trying to get it done. Like, you know that whole listen and responding thing you learned in acting school? Get that. Forget that.

[Jessica Capshaw]

But like, I'm trying. And so, yeah, anyways, there's that. I did love that. And then I also heard that Sandra oh was in the news for saying, you know, she's always said. And I was there for it. And truly, no one has left a show with the. A lot of times people would leave the show but you actually wouldn't even know they were leaving. You'd finish out the season, and then you'd find out afterwards, some by their. Their choice and some not. But Sandra really knew she was going for quite a long time, and so there was a lot of Runway. And then she was so dear. I mean, the thought she put into, like, writing handwritten notes, and she had these gifts made for everyone, and she was just. She's such an incredible human, but she. She. She might have said in an interview that she maybe. Maybe might come back or that she would consider coming back, and she's never said that before.

[Camilla Luddington]

She has. Not in the past. She has. It's sort of been like, you know, that's. I've sort of moved on to new waters, and. And she obviously loves the show so much, but there would not. It didn't seem like there would be a return of Christina Yang happening anytime soon, and maybe it's still not happening anytime soon, but the fact. Fact that she would be open to it, because we never got to really work together very much.

She's amazing.

It was another intern that was always on her service, not Joe Wilson.

[Jessica Capshaw]

She raises the game. Let's go back a little bit, because I actually have something about Sandra O. That's kind of shocking, which is that Sandra, oh, and I first met because she was in a little movie called A.I. directed by Steven Spielberg, and I was also in A.I. but we were, like, background kind of. And maybe we had, like, a line or two is, I think, is how I remember it. But it was she and I and Emmanuel, we were in the show, in the AI Show. And Sandra later on said to me, which made me laugh really hard. She said, of course, that she and Emmanuel, like, tried to stay close to me, because I figure, like, we're not getting cut out if they stay. If we stay close to Capshaw. And I fully got cut out. So they. So they did, too.

You have no idea how many Spielberg movies I've been cut out of.

No, you. But I. Because I know this story from just being, like, loving each other, knowing each other's lives. So you went over to Europe?

Yes, when I was in high school. Yeah, when I was in high school, our family was making the movie in Krakow, Poland, and it was my junior year and my mom did not want to, you know, split up the movie, split up the family. And it was what it was. So I got homeschooled. And while I was there, I also worked on the movie, you know, wherever I could help. I did after school and there was a party scene and they were like, well, just be an extra. So I was like, of course I want to be an extra. So I put on, you know, a beautiful little dress. So I did that. And then again, probably thought I got a good chance of staying in the pic. I got a good chance of staying in this film. That would be a negative on the cutting room floor. Not there.

I have major follow up questions. Okay. If my dad cuts me out of a movie, I'm like a little knock knock door on that office and I'm like, why? Ay b, put it back in. Obviously, if you want the ratings, if you want the nominations, put it back in. I don't know how I got nominated without you.

And Martin Ludington, who was the back end of a donkey in some sort of production, is not afraid to give me all the notes. I have to listen to those. But, you know, to each their own.

To each their own. I know. But you know what? Every once in a while, I will send. If I. If I'm proud of a tape I've done, I'll send it to him. And he's just the best at giving. It's not even feedback. I think that's what it is that I'm not asking for feedback. It's just. He's so great at being like, that was amazing. And, like, does it full force just, you know, he's just a. He's on the sidelines clapping.

You're due for, like, a new set of interns. What spices things up? I think we might be due.
