This is sermon number six in this series called Alterations. Goated, volume four. And the text says, y'.

All.

Y' all gonna help the bishop preach today? See, I'm at the DeKalb location. I got. I got. Yep, one of the saints is standing. That's what I'm talking about. We getting ready to have some church today. Matthew 15:21 says, leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sedon. Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, lord, son of David, have mercy on me. My daughter is demon possessed and suffering terribly. Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, send her away, for she keeps crying after us. He answered, I was only sent to the lost sheep of Israel. The woman came and knelt before him. Lord, help me. He replied, it's not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs. Yes, it is, Lord, she said.
B
Even.
A
The dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table. And Jesus said to her, woman, you have great faith. Your request is granted. And her daughter. I'm gonna see if I can get a shout here. Was healed at that moment. At that moment, I want to talk from this topic in our time together, family. The cry behind the crumbs, the cry behind, clap your hands every location if you're ready for God's word. I want to leap into this lesson today by articulating something that's been regularly repeated throughout a few of the sermons in this series. And it's simply this. Love is not just a feeling. It's a function. And relationships require more than romance. They require responsibility. Therefore, when I say yes to a relationship, I am actually saying yes to a set of responsibilities. When I say yes to love, I am saying more than yes to a feeling. I am saying yes to a function. And part of the function that love drives and part of the responsibility that relationships require is, is to investigate and then execute on my partner's love language. It is my responsibility to listen for and then learn to give them what only I can give in the context of a human relationship. And when we do this, it not only serves the person we're in relationship with at the highest level, it serves us at the highest level because people show up differently when their love languages are met properly. Here's the point. We've been Trying to make with this entire series over the course of these last six weeks. This is not only the case in.
B
Our relationship with people.
A
This is also the case in our relationship with God. God. God shows up differently. I'mma say it one more time, Church. God shows up differently when his love languages are met properly. Yeah, when I say shows up differently, I mean he goes from omnipresence to manifest presence. Omnipresence simply means God is everywhere at all times and unbound by time and space. But manifest presence is when the omnipresent God becomes perceivable and undeniable. Omnipresence is air. Manifest presence is wind. You can be in air and not know it. You in air right now, you're breathing it right now, but you cannot be in wind and not know it. Manifest presence is when the wind starts blowing. I don't just mean that metaphorically.
B
I can prove it scripturally.
A
Is this not what happened at the Red Sea? Very often we talk about that God parted the Red Sea, but we don't talk about how God parted the Red Sea.
B
But if you read the story of.
A
The Red Sea, you'll see how God parted the Red Sea.
B
Because the text says, and God calls.
A
A wind to blow all night long. And the wind blew the sea out of the way. Because when you experience the manifest presence of God, it not only blows on you, it blows on what's in your way.
B
Hallelujah.
A
Has anybody ever came in here one way? Stress and strained and sad and concerned, and then you had an encounter with the manifest presence of God. It blew that depression away, and it.
B
Blew that stress away.
A
Because where the spirit of the Lord is, there's liberty. Omnipresence is air. Manifest presence is. When is this not what happened on the day of Pentecost? They were all in one place, all on one accord. And suddenly my Pentecostal section at will you. And suddenly there came a sound from.
B
Heaven like a mighty rushing wind.
A
Because omnipresence is air. Manifest presence is wind. Is this not what happened when Paul and Silas were in a Philippian prison? The Bible says they prayed and sang praises unto God, and suddenly there was a great earthquake so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately I'm gonna see if I can get a praiser here. All the doors were open.
B
Hallelujah.
A
And everyone's bands were loose. Because omnipresence is air, Manifest presence is action. Because manifest presence is when God shows up differently. Somebody say, yes, and God shows up differently. When love languages are met properly and for the past six weeks, we have been leaning into one of his primary love languages. And it's worship. It's so important to him that when he actually gives his people, Israel in the Old Testament a set of instructions regarding what matters most to him and how they ought to behave in order to experience human flourishing, he gives them over 613 commandments. The first 10 are what's called the decalogue, the 10 commandments. And the very first one deals with worship. He says, on the top of my list, thou. I'm sorry, I grew up reading King James shall have no other gods before me.
B
Thou shall worship me only.
A
It is his love language. And when this love language is met properly, God shows up differently. And so we've been exploring what it means to meet the love language properly. Last week, we explored what he wants us to do with our hands. And y' all got to showing out because I only got to one point last week. But I'm reading the text here in Matthew, and we get some insight to another one of God's love languages. I mean, another way he wants us to express his love language. And this is not just what we do with our hands. This text shows us the importance of what we do with our words. We see it together here. The text begins with three words, and I don't have time and margin to explore them, but these three words, this sentence can be a sermon in and of itself. This text begins with these words, leaving that place. Come on, church. Leaving that place. Now, the text doesn't tell us explicitly what that place was, but the text does tell us, if you read before this, who was in that place. So this isn't just about Jesus leaving or what? This is about Jesus leaving a who? He had just had a contentious conversation with the Pharisees. So the text says he leaves that place and he withdraws to non Jewish gentile territory called Tyre and Sidon. Y' all miss me? He had just had a contentious exchange with Pharisees. He's in Jewish territory. So he leaves that place, goes to Gentile territory. And in Gentile territory, he runs into a Canaanite woman. I'mma say it one more time. He had just left a contentious conversation with Pharisees in Jewish territory. He leaves and goes into Gentile territory. Yeah, and runs into a Canaanite woman in Gentile territory. Here it is. There are times when your ability to accomplish your assignment is tied to your willingness to make pivot. Purpose will often require you making a.
B
Pivot from those you want to help.
A
Toward Those who want your help, are y' all here. He's arguing with Pharisees who's denying who he is.
B
And he goes to Gentile territory and he runs into a woman who.
A
Who's telling him who he is.
B
He's trying to help the people that he wants to help. And then he has to pivot to.
A
Those that who want his help. And I don't know who I'm talking to in here today, but some of us are in seasons of frustration because you don't know your anointing has an audience that you don't know.
B
Everybody you want to help, doesn't want your help, that you hadn't realized and.
A
Recognized that everybody doesn't have an appetite for.
B
For your oil.
A
So you're trying to force it on.
B
People who don't want it. And you're missing out on people who waiting on it.
A
Many people end up missing impact because they are unwilling to pivot from those.
B
Who they want to help and pivot.
A
Toward those who want their help. And this is the essence of what Jesus articulates in Matthew, chapter three. Seven, verse number six. When he says, do not give that which is to the dogs, which is sacred, and do not cast your pearls to pigs.
B
If you do, they may trample them.
A
Under your feet, under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. He says, if you keep doing this, you are inviting your own persecution. See, when he says, do not give dogs what's sacred, he's not being insulting. He's not calling people a dog. He's not calling people names. This isn't about names. This is about nature. He uses animal metaphors all throughout scripture to describe human personalities. Does he not. I said, does he not be wise as a serpent, humble as a. Am I making sense here? He says, I send you out as sheep among wolves. It's not about names, it's about nature. So he's saying, don't give what's sacred to those dogs. See, your dog will chew on a toy and your dog will chew on your shoe. One might be inexpensive, the other might be more expensive. But dolls can't discern value.
B
They don't know the door difference between a toy and your shoe. And Jesus said, you need to discern who has discernment before you keep making investment.
A
He says, don't give what's sacred to the dogs. Am I in the book? Give me the text, please. And he says, do not throw your pearls before pigs. Now this doesn't make sense if I don't know how pearls are created. Y' all do know where pearls come from, right? Where they come from? Oysters. It is when. Hi. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It is when the. Come on here. It is when there's the accumulation things inside the oyster that produce the production of calcium. And this calcium creates this hard, small, round object that we call a pearl. So a pearl is an asset to us, but it was agitation for the oyster.
B
And Jesus is saying, it's some stuff that you got that's valuable, that you got through agitation. It costs you to know what you need. No, it cost you to learn what you learn. It cost you to be where you are. You went through some pain to get that. And Jesus said, don't give that to those who don't have discernment.
A
He said, this is what they're going to do. You're going to be upset that they trampling on what they should be appreciating. And then some of them, depending on their degree of emotional health, will turn hostile toward you. Am I in the book? And tear you to pieces. They will turn hostile toward you in your attempt to help them. So Jesus withdrew to Tyre and Sidon, and what he was trying to convince the Pharisees to take. This Canaanite woman is begging for. She begging for it. Look at the text. The text says. I'm trying not to run here. Give me the text. It says the Canaanite woman came from that vicinity. Came, and she said, don't somebody say Canaanite. So she not Jewish. She's not a worshiper of Yahweh, supposedly. But she came out to him. Watch the text. Lord, Son of David. How you know who David is? Don't you mess with me. She said, lord, you're a Canaanite woman.
B
You have a culture of polytheism.
A
You guys worship baal, you offer children to Malik.
B
You put babies on the altar. What do you know? She said, don't you judge me from.
A
Where I come from.
B
Y' all aren't talking to me. She said, don't judge me based off.
A
Of where I come from because I'm.
B
Strong enough to stand on my own two feet. She said, I know who you are, Lord.
A
Son of David. She's telling him who he is. She's telling him who he is. She's telling him who he is. She's telling him who he is. She's acknowledging his messianic lineage. She's not saying you're the son of David, literally. She's saying, I know that the Jewish.
B
Messiah will come from the lineage of David. And I Want you to know I know who you are. This is worship.
A
Oh, y' all missed it.
B
I'm gonna prove it.
A
I'm prove it. Son of David, have mercy on me. My daughter is demon possessed and suffering terribly. Son of David, have mercy on me. If I was in country church, I would have a it. It'd be a problem right here. The request comes after the worship.
B
She knew what to put first.
A
And some people only worship after the request is answered.
B
She. She put the worship in front of the request. Son of David, I know who you are. Waymaker, make a way. Heart fixer. Fix my heart. Door open.
A
Open up.
B
Open the door. Heal up. Heal. Whatever you need. Somebody take 15 seconds and call them back. Take 15 seconds and calling that every location. Calling, calling, calling, calling, calling. Provider, restorer, deliverer, healer, sustainer, comforter. For that.
A
Now watch this. Here's the test. Somebody say the test. Here's the test. Verse 23 says, Jesus did not answer a word. All that praise.
B
All that clapping, all that dancing.
A
And Jesus did not answer a word. That's verse 23. Give me verse 28. Please give me verse 28. Then Jesus said to her, woman, you have great faith. Your request is granted. Give me verse 23. And Jesus did not answer a word. Give me verse 28. And Jesus said to her, woman, you have great faith. Your request is granted. Give me verse 23. And Jesus did not answer a word. Give me verse 28. Woman, you have great faith. Your request is granted.
B
Some of you can't get to verse 28 because you don't survive verse 23. You get mad at the silence. You get mad when worship doesn't work immediately. You get mad when he doesn't do what you want expeditiously. But if you can survive verse 24, if you can survive verse 25, if you can survive verse 26, if you can survive verse 27, there's a verse 28 with your name on it. Somebody praise him. Cause you're getting ready to step into your verse 28. I need the praises to praise God prophetically at this service.
A
Here it is. He answered her with action. Did you hear? God's silence is never neglectful. It's strategic. Just because he's not talking to you about what he's fixing mean he not fixing it.
B
Oh, and sometimes he doesn't even tell.
A
You your verse 28 is coming. You just wake up one day and.
B
You right in the middle hallelujah of your verse 28. Is there anybody in the building that believes he answers with action.
A
All right, you can be seated. I'm almost done. 5 minutes, 47 seconds. Here it is. He answered her. Not a word. I want you to see what the disciples did. Give me. Verse 24. I want you to see what the disciples did. Give me a verse. Let's see here. Verse 23. Jesus did not answer a word, so his disciples came to him and said, send her away, for she keep crying after us. She keep bothering. She keep bothering us. And here's. Here's some of your challenge. As you maximize the potential God's given you, you're going to have to deal with people who assign credit to themselves for what God has accomplished in you. No, she not crying after y'. All. Now watch what happens here. Are y' all ready? I said, are y' all ready? Cause here's what happens. Like, you can teach principles on worship, you teach principles on prayer. But. And what happens is people put those things into practice. But because we don't understand or because we haven't, a lot of us at least haven't been taught the principle of patience that you have to attach to a principle. When it doesn't work, immediately, you slide into a fence. Got me? So I'm getting ready to show you this woman's alteration is tied to her ability to not get an offense. Listen to this. The text says, jesus says to her, I'm only sent to the lost sheep of Israel. My oil, not for you.
B
Wow.
A
You're not my primary assignment. Come on here.
B
Do you know how strong you got.
A
To be to hear that and not get in your feelings? First of all, you over here in tyrants of Don.
B
We don't even like y' all over here in tyrants. And.
A
How do you handle when God tell you what you don't want to hear after the worship, and he say, you still know. After the seed, it's still no. He says, I'm only sent to the lost sheep of Israel. And then watch what he says next. Y' all watch what he says next. Y' all ready for this? He says, it is not fitting. It's a not. It's not appropriate. It's not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs. Now. Now, this is verse 26. This is after verse 25. Because when he says, I'm basically, I'm not sent to you. Instead of being. Instead of going further away from him, the text says, she came closer and knelt and said, lord, she's not calling him boss. She's calling him Yahweh, help me she responded to the no with more worship. Y' all aren't talking to me.
B
The good Lord giveth and the good Lord taketh away.
A
Blessed be the name of the Lord. The spiritual discipline of worship cannot be contingent on yeses.
B
Yes. Hallelujah.
A
If you are a door opener and you don't open the door, this door, not for me. And if you are a way maker and you don't make a way, you're making another one. If you are a provider and you didn't provide when and where and through who I thought you were going to.
B
Provide, it means you're going to do it another way. So even when it doesn't go my way, my response response will be to come closer, to kneel and to worship.
A
Watch the text. He replied, it's not right to take the children's bread and toss it to dogs. Wait a minute. Now remember, he's not calling a dog. It's not about names. It's about nature. But she's a Gentile. She's not a Jew. But watch this woman's response. She said, yes, it is.
B
Am I in the book?
A
She said, yes, it is. Lord, he says, it's not right. She said, yes, it is. Absolutely it is. She says, because I'm not asking you for bread. I never asked you for. I need crumbs. I'm not asking you for what belongs to them. I don't want you to take anything.
B
Out of their mouth. I believe you're a God of abundance. And I don't believe you gotta starve them to feed me. Give them their bread. Give me my crumbs.
A
And Jesus said, woman, you have great faith. Your request is granted. And her daughter was healed at that moment. This alteration was a result of what she did. I'm done. Tarrio with her communication. This is. Oh, my God, I don't even have time. Like, I could literally take this spiritual discipline of worship and tell you it is the foundation upon which all other spiritual discipline work, that when you pray right, it involves a worship component. He that comes to God must first believe. He is. Are you hearing me? And so what I want you to see here is how this woman used her words in worship and how her words moved her from just proximity to Jesus, which is. Which we would say is omnipresence, in a sense to Jesus, manifesting his lordship over the situation her daughter was dealing with. It's a communication. It's what. It's what she does with her words. Now watch this. Let's make this homiletical loop because love listens and then love learns. Love listens to what the love language is, and then love is willing to learn how to meet it. And God doesn't mince words when it comes to the way he wants us to use our words in worship. He says, I don't make it hard for you to figure me out. You'll be in a relationship with somebody and you can't figure them out. Like, I want to give you what you want, but I don't know what you want. I don't even think you know what you want. He makes it clear. Here's the issue. The issue isn't even competence. The issue is comfort. There are some things that God desires that don't make us comfortable. But you have to choose your hard. So you will choose the heart of not giving him what he asked for and dealing with that, or you will choose the hard of being discomfort in discomfort for a season and given what he actually wants. Because there, there are three ways. I see in Scripture that he speaks very clearly in terms of the what he wants us to do with our words. 1 Psalms 4, 47. 1 is an expression of worship shouting. So you know when people like where she was shouting in church, we raise our voices like the Bible says, clap your hands, all you people, and shout to God with cries of joy. Now, I thought something, there's a concept. I thought, it got confirmed for me yesterday. So my wife and I are at my son's football game at Syracuse, right? So first home game. So we're at the home game and basically they was losing the whole time. We thought they were going to lose, right? That's what it was. It's like, well, we came up here, this is, this is a disappointing. And we thought they were going to lose. So they were down, they come back, right? And I kept noticing something because we're in this dome and it's loud. I kept noticing something. I was like, man, the way it sound in here when they lose it. It's different than the way it sound when they win it. And the game went to overtime and they won by stopping the other team on fourth down. And when the defender deflected the pass, when I tell you, that room erupted. Watch this. And it was people that didn't even know me trying to hug me. Strangers high fiving each other. You understand what I'm saying? And. And to hit me. Victory has a sound.
B
They didn't even play the game. They were in the stands, but they watched their team get victory. And if you, you on Team Jesus, he got victory. And victory has a sound. Let me hear the sound of victory. We win. We win. Wait a minute. We won. We won. We won. We want. I'm not waiting until the battle's over. But we're shouting right now. We win. Sa hallelujah.
