Fran
What's up, everyone? It's Chicks in the Office with Brian Fran giving you that Friday energy on a Wednesday. And Today is our 1000th episode
Rhea
round of applause. Shall we pop our Confetti goes wild.
Fran
Ready?
Noah
What am I aiming?
Rhea
Not at us. Wait. Hold on to shoot. Rotate base in direction.
Fran
Oh, my God.
Noah
Just arrows pointing this way. Turn it that way.
Rhea
Okay, okay, okay, okay.
Fran
Three, two, one. Oh, it's taped. Oh, what the hell?
Noah
Wow. Mine went off.
Fran
Why isn't this working? Oh, shit.
Rhea
Whoa.
Noah
Yeah.
Rhea
I don't know. I mean. Yeah.
Fran
You know what? Confetti is always underwhelming.
Rhea
This is it.
Fran
It's always underwhelming. I can't even just pop the top off and then sprinkle like I just said.
Noah
Yeah.
Fran
It's always underwhelming confetti if it doesn't work out.
Listener/Caller
Yeah.
Rhea
I mean, look at the inside of that. There's no way that thing was working.
Fran
No, these are broken. Guys. You guys got us bullshit.
Monica Barbaro
Confetti.
Fran
Just kidding. Thank you guys for setting this up.
Noah
Is that a nice cake?
Fran
It is a beautiful cake. Champagne.
Noah
So we pop some champagne. Come on, we gotta. Let's have a drink.
Rhea
He's really trying to drink in the million.
Noah
Let's have a drink.
Monica Barbaro
He is, he is.
Fran
And listen, it's 1,000. You're right. You're right.
Rhea
You're absolutely right. I personally don't want it. Like, that's nice stuff. And when I have one sip, then I'm like.
Monica Barbaro
Goes to waste.
Noah
No, no, because we're gonna drink it.
Fran
The whole bottle.
Noah
All of us.
Fran
Come on, pop it open. Okay, you know what? All Right.
Rhea
We're popping champagne.
Fran
Popping champagne. I'm covering my eyes. I have a very big fear of getting a cork to the eye, so I never pop champagne. I always let somebody else do the honors.
Listener/Caller
It's.
Fran
Yeah.
Rhea
And. Which means it's always me.
Fran
Yeah. So don't aim it in this direction
Rhea
to shoot it right at you.
Fran
The way you're opening it, though, is kind of.
Rhea
You just have to twist the lid. The lid's not coming off.
Sponsor/Advertisement
Don't worry.
Fran
Three, two, one. Happy 1000. Everybody. Let's get some glasses going. Noah, would you do the honors? Come here. Come on. Bartender, bartender, come here.
Rhea
Here, I'll pour yours all the way to the tippy top.
Fran
You guys want me to, like, do a speech or something?
Monica Barbaro
Sure.
Noah
Yeah?
Fran
Okay. Should we all go around and make one? No.
Rhea
I don't know. We all need to. But how about just a toast?
Fran
Okay, I'll do a little toast. I'll keep it short and sweet.
Rhea
Yep.
Fran
All right. Are we ready?
Rhea
I'm ready.
Fran
All right, Here's a toast to our 1000th episode. I just want to say thank you to all of you who've been on the journey with us, our listeners who are listening to this right now. First and foremost, you guys have been along this journey. Maybe it's from the first episode when we were on Sirius xm, to now, the thousandth episode. For all the people that joined along the way, whether it was last week, a couple years ago, we appreciate you more than anything.
Monica Barbaro
And.
Fran
And then to this team. We would not be chicks in the office without each of us on this team. The amount of stories, memories, journeys we've been on, all the highs, not a lot of lows. This podcast has only gone up and up, and I can't wait to see what we do in the future. It only gets better and better, and it truly is a joy working with all of you. Everyone has a very special, unique thing about them in this group, and that's what makes us work. So congratulations to everybody on the team. I love you all so much. And here's to a thousand more.
Rhea
Yes.
Noah
Mazel tov.
Rhea
Cheers. Cheers. Clink, clink, clink.
Noah
You know, it would be great right now if we just had something to watch.
Monica Barbaro
Oh,
Fran
do they have something?
Noah
I was just saying we could watch some YouTube videos or.
Rhea
I love watching you.
Noah
No, no. Yeah. There is a little video. A big video, actually.
Fran
It's a big video.
Noah
It's a big video.
Fran
Oh, my God.
Noah
Get comfortable.
Fran
Okay.
Rhea
I'm glad.
Fran
I need our headphones.
Monica Barbaro
All right.
Rhea
I'm glad I poured the champagne.

What if your drive was fueled with more, like, more protection for more time on the road? Shelby Power Nitro plus provides more protection for longer lasting engines. So it helps you keep your engine running like new for whatever drive is ahead. Shelby Power Nitro engine performance that lasts compare to minimum detergent gasoline. With continuous use of Shelby Power Nitro plus and gasoline direct injection engines, actual effects and benefits may vary.

Listen, I said I wasn't going to drink this week, and here I am again. Because, let me tell you, this summer, we are celebrating. I got no problem with it. But this summer has been drink after drink, and I can't get enough. I'm loving it.
Noah
Listen, what's a little champagne going to do?
Fran
Nothing. We're just going to have some fun
Noah
and then you pee it out.
Fran
Fuck yeah. All right.
Guest/Various Guests
Okay.
Rhea
That's one way to think about it. Pee out everything you.
Fran
I was just going to give myself a week break, but now I hear back again, wow. Like, what's this freaking video going to be?
Rhea
Will it be 500?
Noah
Yeah, it's a better video.
Sponsor/Advertisement
Okay.
Fran
It's 16 minutes long. All right. No, I'm.
Noah
I'm a thousand episodes into 16 minutes.
Rhea
Oh, my God.
Listener/Caller
Wow.
Rhea
Yeah. Seriously.
Fran
Oh, my God. Am I going to cry? Don't. I can't do that.
Rhea
We're crying for sure.
Fran
I can't do that.
Rhea
I feel it coming on already.
Fran
Oh, wow.
Rhea
I'm envisioning 16 minutes of Dave telling
Fran
us how he is. I literally was thinking the same thing. That's so fucking funny. Oh, my God.
Rhea
Tea by the sea. Yeah, we should text him that today. By the way, boss, thousands of today.
Fran
I know Madison beer and Justin Herbert just got engaged, but.
Noah
Okay, you ready?
Listener/Caller
We're ready.
Fran
Yes.
Rhea
I think our best bet is to just start it from the beginning.
Fran
Yeah.
Rhea
And.
Monica Barbaro
Oh, my God, I'll start it like this. Hey, guys, we have some news for you.
Rhea
We're bringing you a Chicks in the

Guest/Various Guests
I'll tell you what it is when we come back in order to celebrate. I said, is there any way I could be part of this montage? They said, no, and I said, I don't care. I'm gonna be in the montage.
Listener/Caller
Stop.
Guest/Various Guests
Because it's their thousandth episod and I'm in the montage. And why I'm in the montage for you. I hope you appreciate me. I appreciate you.
Noah
I do.
Fran
I do. Our scrubbers were, like, in our Facebook
Rhea
group, and they were like, chicks in the office are ragging on you guys.
Fran
And so I was like, who are these? What is going on? I love you so much.
Rhea
Congratulations on girls. I love them. Love you guys so, so much.
Monica Barbaro
You're an inspiration.
Rhea
And keep on going to a thousand
Monica Barbaro

Listener/Caller
Love you. Bye.
Fran
We are here with a very sketch special guest.
Rhea
Special guest.
Fran
We are here with a very tongue tie.
Guest/Various Guests
Sketchy, definitely nervous, but this is sick. Again, I've never done a podcast. It's one of the first.
Rhea
I'm like, I specifically requested this interview.
Noah
Wow.
Fran
You know we're very serious. Yeah, look, right?
Rhea
Very serious today. Ticketmaster says we're not putting out general sale.
Fran
What?
Rhea
They're not doing the sale. No tickets for you. They're just not putting them on sale.
Fran
You guys hate each other.
Guest/Various Guests
If you're gonna tell me in that entire 20 minute period at one point you're not gonna have an awkward face on, then you're better than I am. And I'm cool with that. I'm sorry. For starters, who said I have temper tantrums?
Fran
Not us. Who said that? Not us.
Rhea
It wasn't us.
Fran
It wasn't us. Cause I'll duck you.
Guest/Various Guests
No shit gets real on this podcast. I'm so proud of you guys. Oh, my God. Dozen episodes. I mean, what a milestone. And you bitches doing it looking hot like that. Like, what the hell?
Fran
I wouldn't expect anything.
Guest/Various Guests
You're walking out of your car into a locker room, and you're carrying a Birkin that looks a little stiff and a little fake. I'mma call your ass out.
Fran
You two walked in here. You guys came in with matching Birkin.
Rhea
Yours looks like you use yours, you know.
Fran
Oh, I really use.
Listener/Caller
Mine has just.
Guest/Various Guests
Mine's just been to the spa to be fair.
Noah
Yeah, okay.
Monica Barbaro
Fair.
Guest/Various Guests
Fair.
Noah
Hi, guys. Your 1,000.
Fran
Wait, you've been working on this bed?
Guest/Various Guests
Congratulations.
Fran
Yeah, like this.
Monica Barbaro
The Green Room.
Fran
Not to put our producer on the spot, but it's his favorite movie of all time, so not to be weird,
Noah
but have, like, a giant poster of your face.
Fran
Such an awkward laugh.
Monica Barbaro
You will call you Penny Lane all the time.
Rhea
As a matter of fact, I did
Monica Barbaro
a podcast yesterday, and the producer. That's the only poster he has in his house.
Fran
My face showed me. You're a little weird.
Monica Barbaro
I'm interviewing you on the spot. Sorry, this is not. I'm not supposed to be interviewing y', all, but.
Rhea
Oh, my God.
Monica Barbaro
Did you guys see Cadillac?
Noah
No.
Guest/Various Guests
No. Yeah, you missed that one.
Fran
We could have lied. We could have.
Rhea
We could.
Fran
I thought about lying.
Noah
He did.
Guest/Various Guests
Thought about it.
Rhea
We paused for one second.
Guest/Various Guests
Guess that one didn't make the round.
Fran
Pete Davidson is also in this movie.
Guest/Various Guests
I love this FaceTime feedback.
Noah
Glenn. Wow.
Rhea
Why would you tell us that?
Fran
I'm sweating right now.
Guest/Various Guests
You're sweating.
Fran
Glenn was one of our first guests in those early radio days.
Guest/Various Guests
You guys are kicking ass.
Fran
That's how I showed up to interview Glenn.
Guest/Various Guests
Hey, Rhea, Fran.
Fran
Congrats on a thousand episodes.
Guest/Various Guests
Here's to a thousand more.
Fran
So you were deep into this past season, Love Island.
Monica Barbaro
Oh, yeah.
Fran
And how did that feel for you guys? You, like, broke the news that everyone
Rhea
in America wanted to be the one to break the news.
Fran
We are reporting to you live from Fiji.
Rhea
I saw your TikTok. So you were like on it, talking about it and then being like, we want to come to Fiji.
Fran
We are here with the queen of Love island usa, Leah, the queen of Love island usa.
Rhea
We're breaking a lot of news to you, honey.
Fran
I have something very exciting for you. We posted a video and cheez it commented on our video and they said,
Guest/Various Guests

Fran
Cheez it said, say hi to Cordell for me.
Rhea
You have some of the most flawless skin I've ever seen. We gotta know what the. We gotta know what the routine is.
Fran
What the skincare routine.
Rhea
At one point on the show, I thought you had foundation on.
Fran
Oh, my God. A legend needs no introduction.
Monica Barbaro
We're just talking about my fire ass music.
Rhea
Happy ending. Love that song. I love it's full circle because I
Monica Barbaro
wrote that with my husband.
Fran
Hey, Rhea and Fran. Happy 1000th episode.
Monica Barbaro
Miss you and love you so much.
Fran
We officially reached Is this better than his videos subscribers on YouTube. When that happened, we would bleach Noah's hair. That's what happens on this podcast. I feel like I have no mine. Look at my face right now.
Monica Barbaro
We are at the finale of the Bachelor.
Rhea
That kills me.
Monica Barbaro
We're in the crown.
Fran
Let's get into the Bachelorette recap.
Rhea
Better be in this motherfucker.
Fran
There's no video from Trent. I'm going to be pissed.
Guest/Various Guests
Our very own Trent, Ria and Fran, congratulations on 1000 episodes of Chicks in the Office. You guys should be incredibly proud of what you built. 1000 episodes is an amazing accomplishment. So, yeah, I'm really proud of you guys. I love you guys. Here's to a thousand more episodes. And shout out to Noah too. He does a pretty good job. Yeah, he just got dead quiet the

He was absolutely thrilled when I was eliminated.
Fran
Listen, he was texting Andy 2152310 times from multiple devices. Iria and Fran, congratulations on 1,000 episodes. You guys just can't shut up. Love you guys. If you add your year. Oh, my God. And how old you are, it comes out to 2023 today. What? I saw this online today.
Rhea
Are you joking, though? Of course. The year you were born in and the age that you are. You add those together, you get the current year, year that we're in.
Fran
I don't feel good right now.
Guest/Various Guests
But also, I feel like we kind
Noah

Guest/Various Guests
Just keep wanting to hit this thing.
Listener/Caller
Sorry,
Fran

Guest/Various Guests
I don't know my own strength.
Rhea

Monica Barbaro
You got to go barefoot. People are paying for this.
Fran
Here you go. Ending on an amazing shot.
Guest/Various Guests
Congrats, ria and Fran. 1000 episodes of tricks in the Office is incredible. I don't know what's happening to my hair. I think I'm about to be electrocuted. What an electric show you've got. Keep it rolling. Many, many more. Thanks for including us.
Fran
We've grown up, you know. Yes, exactly. Look at us now. Third album.

Guest/Various Guests
Am I right?
Rhea
Am I right? Ria ran a thousand episodes.
Fran
Are you kidding me?
Rhea
Congratulations, ladies.
Fran
Or as us Jews like to say, mazel tov. Not only are you the most talented duo, you are also the kindest ladies I have ever met. And I will never forget how kind you were to me and Christy when we were just starting out with our podcast. So cheers to a thousand more. I'll be honest with you. We had a shirt go viral with your face on it.
Guest/Various Guests
Legally.
Fran
Legally, yes.
Rhea
Maybe.
Monica Barbaro
Yes.
Fran
Next question.
Listener/Caller
I like that.
Guest/Various Guests
Josh's intro is Josh Peck, and mine
Fran

Guest/Various Guests
Job, AKA you should Google him, because nobody knows who he is but Josh Peck. That's not true. Damn it.
Fran
You are on the rise.
Guest/Various Guests
Congratulations. A thousand episodes. It's amazing. Jordan, your producer, told me I was one of your favorite guests, and she wanted me to record this. I find that hard to believe. I think Jordan's a liar. Anyway, guys, you're the best. Congratulations.

Fran
That was so incredible.
Listener/Caller
Wow.
Fran
Oh, my God. Well, first of all, thank you guys so much for making that video.
Noah
Well, first of all, shout out to Chris Heimsoth. He was the same guy who edited the 500 video, so I was like, he's the only guy for the job.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Noah
So he again, took, like, 30 of my hard drives and has just been like, wow, Sending me cuts in the middle of the night. That is so shout out to him, because he spent how many hours, I don't know, on this video?
Fran
I mean, he put in so much effort.
Noah
Javon and Jordan, for reaching out to all these people.
Rhea
So nice.
Fran
That was incredible. Thank you so much. That really made me emotional.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
I don't know why.
Rhea
Like, there were some amazing people in there, but, like, when you popped up in your wedding dress, I just heard,
Fran
like, I was like.
Rhea
Like, I kind of held it in until then. And then I was like, well, no.
Fran
Well, because we fully have grown up on this show, like, and it's crazy
Rhea
seeing us in those beginning days to that, like, to that moment specifically.
Fran
I.
Rhea
We were just so little.
Fran
I really don't.
Noah
Like.
Rhea
Heather McMahon said, We're only a combined 10 years old, so it's true.
Fran
When I. I'm just a baby. We're really so young, and we've been doing this for so long.
Rhea

It really is such a great snack. I've been loving the strawberry fruit bars. They are delicious. You can find outshine fruit bars at retailers nationwide.
Fran
No, I mean, I. Listen, we're gonna get sappy at some point. It's a thousand episodes, but at the same time, there's so many funny moments. Like, I think the reason we got so emotional at that part of, like, both of us getting married, we have accomplished so much, and we've just grown up so much, and we have seen each other through, like, every single aspect of life. Basically, like our entire 20s were this show.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
And now it's just so. It's so insane. And we've had so many, like, damn. We've done some really cool stuff. A very successful show.
Rhea
Yeah. You know, personally, the cut from 100 episodes with Jonas Brothers to hosting Jonas Con, I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Fran
I mean, here's the thing, though.
Rhea
They couldn't do it.
Fran
They couldn't do one. They were.
Rhea
I'm sure.
Fran
Yeah, I know. I'm.
Rhea
Believe me.
Fran
I'm sure we asked. The thing is. I'm sure. But here's the thing, by the way.
Rhea
I'm not gonna stop.
Fran
I'm gonna appreciate everybody.
Rhea
Appreciate all the amazing people that we have and not the ones that we didn't, but we will remember.
Fran
We will remember who did it, and we will remember who did and the ones that did. Seriously, thank you so much for taking the time. That's so sweet.
Noah
The Howie Mandel one. Just like. Howie Mandel's just a running. Like, it's a running.
Rhea
Running bit.
Noah
It's a running bit of like, you met. You met him one time in 2019 or 2018, and if it happens five years from now, I'll ask him again.
Fran
Yes. Yeah. It was so good.
Rhea
I mean, started, like, the best.
Fran
First of all, starting off with Andy Cohen in the Clubhouse.
Rhea
No, that was.
Fran
Fucking kidding me. That was so.
Rhea
I was confused for a second. I was like, wait, what?
Fran
No, that was so sick. I can't get over that. That was so cool.
Rhea
Drew Barry, everybody.
Fran
Glenn. Oh, God.
Rhea
He just keeps reminding us how great he is.
Fran
He is. And one day we'll be able to talk about it more. But reliable.
Rhea
Everybody's like, truly everybody. Why did I get emotional?
Fran
Sweet. I think maybe because Austin and Craig were right after the.
Rhea
Yeah, yeah. They were like, in between our.
Noah
No, I'll show You like the raw Craig video, But I was watching it, and I'm like, it sounds like he's, like, on the verge of crying himself.
Rhea
Hey, you know what? We all mean a lot to each other.
Fran
We do.
Rhea
And I think it's very special. And, like, I love. I love everyone from these big stars that we've had on that are so generous and thoughtful with their time. Drew Demi to do that, too. It's just, like, so incredible. And also, like, our peers, our friends, our fellow podcasters that also, like, we have so much respect for them. And feeling the love back is so. I couldn't love Beck and Tanya more. Like, they are. They are the sweetest. All of our wonderful Bachelor Nation family that we have made.
Fran
Serena and Joe, I mean, everybody, everybody. Val and Jenna, we're gonna see them this weekend. Just the whole thing is so incredible. Thank you. Dave saying he's proud of us. Yeah.
Rhea
Thanks, dad.
Fran
You know, it doesn't come often, but when it does, it's meaningful.
Rhea
Hold on tight.
Fran
You hold on. Yeah, you just hold on. Boston Rob, Tyler and Tate, just everybody.
Rhea
Amazing. I love you guys. I love it.
Fran
That was incredible. I don't even want to talk about it.
Rhea
I think that we were probably one of the earliest, like, podcasts that Jake Shane has done it.
Fran
We were.
Rhea
And I remember, if not his service,
Noah
we were saying that, like, I think it's still titled, unless we changed it, like, October. We didn't even write his name on the episode. We wrote Octopus Love.
Rhea
That's hilarious.
Fran
But also, I remember seeing Jake Shane at the Lemons foundation party that the Lautners, the, you know, party that they had in la. And he told me, you know, I'm very nervous. I'm starting a podcast. Like, I'm launching a podcast. It's called Therapist. I don't know how. And I'm like, oh, you're going to crush it.
Rhea
And look at him.
Fran
Like, it's just crazy.
Rhea
Has.
Fran
It's just crazy to look at everything and. Wow. I mean, gosh, though I've been through some looks. I mean, we didn't have.
Rhea
I mean, we really. We all have.
Monica Barbaro
We.
Fran
Not many clips of my black hair with blonde stripes, but, man, there was a time.
Rhea
There was a time. And you know what? I kind of forgot what Chris Briney wore when he came on the show. I'm really like. I'm, like, remembering that again. When he popped up, I went, whoa.
Fran
Yeah.
Rhea
Kind of forgot about that outfit.
Fran
Yeah, it was something. It's just so funny looking at everything. Like we were Literally babies.
Rhea
Yeah.
Guest/Various Guests
Yeah.
Fran
My hair was falling out of my head at one point. Like, not good. Not good at all. You know, been through some time.
Rhea
Bleach in your hair so much.
Fran
Yeah. And also just was, you know, miserable. But now.
Rhea
But just a lot of different factors.
Fran
Yeah. So many different, like, behind the scenes stories, too, that are so funny. And we were actually talking about before this episode, I was like, should we try to think of some stories that we've never told on the podcast? But it's so hard to kind of go back in your brain and be like, this story we should tell or that story we should tell.
Rhea
Every year I think about, and I know, like, you had them and you lost them, but every year I'm like, God, I really should be journaling because my memory is so bad.
Fran
It's so annoying.
Rhea
And then I'm like.
Fran
And I.
Rhea
And. And I have to watch things to be reminded of things. I'm like, oh, my God. Yeah, but I need to, like, I wish I wrote everything down, like, how I was feeling in that time. I guess there's no time like the present to start, right?
Fran
Exactly. I had a journal when I first started Barstool, and, oh, my gosh, the stories in there were probably even before we started the podcast. And then I kept it for a while, and then when we moved offices, we moved offices. In 2019, I had lost the journal. I then started a new journal in 2023 that I still have. And I wrote some feelings down about some things which are so funny looking back on.
Rhea
Like, I wrote about some guests, like, oh, you're thirsty. Yeah, just go ahead.
Fran
I wrote about some guests in the journal, like, yeah, I was nervous for this guest to come on today, and rightfully so, because they sucked.
Rhea
Like, that's like something I wrote in
Fran
my journal in 2023. And it's like, not that long ago. Not long ago at all. Like, is literally like, yeah, I was nervous. And you know what? I had every reason to be because they weren't great, so. But I honestly stopped shortly after that. But we have so many. Yeah.
Rhea
What a fun video. For a second, I really got. I was like, oh, my God, is James Marsden about to pop up?
Fran
I thought so, too. I really thought James Marsden was about to pop up. And I, you know, I'm not gonna harp on the Jonas Fellers, but whatever.
Rhea
Yeah, not even.
Fran
Couldn't even get Kevin.
Noah
The thing that hurt with the Jonas Brothers most, if we're just talking about it, is that it was a. Oh,
Fran
look at how much he Left them nothing.
Rhea
Oh, thanks, Noah, for leaving Sarah and Maggie.
Fran
We got two bottles. We got another bottle. Don't worry.
Noah
No, but the Jonas Brothers, like, for a while, it was like, they're sending it. Like, it was like, a yes.
Fran
And then it was just, Oh, I see. I didn't need.
Rhea
I didn't need to know that, you know, I wouldn't.
Fran
Busy.
Rhea
Like, I wouldn't.
Fran
I'm okay with knowing that.
Rhea
I prefer that. Like, you know.
Listener/Caller
Yeah.
Rhea
But what's worse, it's like, oh, they said yes, and they just never got around to it. Or like, they were like, nah, you know, they have been on vacation for quite some time, so.
Fran
Yeah.
Rhea
But it's like one of those times they sat down to record. Hey, Jonas.
Fran
They've been recording a lot lately. It doesn't matter. We put it out there.
Rhea
You know how you guys can make it up to us? Little shouted in the pod.
Fran
Yeah.
Rhea
Hey, Jonas. You can say, hey, you know what? Chicks in the office. We celebrate their 1000th episode. Proud of them.
Fran
Proud of them.
Rhea
And then I'll be good.
Fran
Yeah. But it doesn't matter because.
Rhea
No, no, no. The whole video, everyone who did make
Fran
a video was incredible.
Rhea
That was amazing, Truly. And I'm gonna say it again. Thank you so much to everybody that sent one in. Because you. You, like. We are on the other side of that sometimes, too, when someone's like, hey, can you send this video? And you do forget.
Fran
You do. Yeah.
Listener/Caller
So.
Rhea
And it's no. Like, it's not anything on the person. It's just sometimes you do forget. So it means extra to us to see the people who did take the time to do it.
Fran
Yes. You know, it really, really does. It's very meaningful. And once again, thank you to our listeners who are the reason we were able to do a thousand episodes. Because you don't listen to the show, then the show ends. And that is not the case. We're gonna keep going.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
Like everyone said, a thousand more.
Rhea
Thanks to everyone that's listened to three episodes. 100 episodes. 500 episodes. The ones that have listened to a thousand. To have every single episode.
Listener/Caller
Yeah.
Rhea
We love you.
Fran
And also after I said special guest, I thought Josh Chobel was popping up for sure. And honestly, I'm a little. I really would have turned red.
Noah
That would have been awesome.
Fran
That would have been.
Rhea
Imagine he was like, congrats on this very special number.
Fran
No, I would have died. I would have ran out of the room. I would have literally scurried out of here. But so 1000 episodes.
Rhea
Is so special.
Fran
It's so special to me. I can't. Oh, God. Too many good times. But even off, like, not even with the guest or the show itself, we've had so many funny stories, like, off camera, that we just haven't told, but not even really purposely.
Rhea
It's just like.
Fran
You're like, I will tell a story another time. Then you just never really got to it. And then it's like, all right, should we tell this random story? There are stories we've told at live shows that we haven't told on the podcast. Yeah, so buy tickets. Yeah, so buy tickets to the live show.
Rhea
You never know what you're gonna hear.
Fran
Yeah. You really don't see. We really do tell some secret stories at that show, which is always funny, like some Singapore stuff. But, you know, if you were at the live show, you saw.
Noah
Yeah.
Rhea
It's an elite group. It is. Why. And you can come join us this fall.
Fran
Imagine we were like. And there's our. We literally are the Jonas Brothers. And here's our next tour announcement.
Noah
And we're releasing a book.
Rhea
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Fran
Here's the thing. We would write a spectacular book. We were actually to include stories that people don't know. Oh, man. Yeah, oh, man. I'd write a bestseller. I fucking would. Oh, my God. Sometimes I dream about it. I literally toss and turn and dream about telling stories that people get to that point I could maybe. Where I just tell stories that I fucking wish people knew.
Noah
They.
Fran
And they don't. And then I just expose every. Now that's not. That's not it. But sometimes I do think, wow, if only people knew this story. The only people knew that story. I'd be good in a book.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
But, you know, we're not like that.
Noah
Well, what are your favorite three moments from the show?
Fran
From the show as a whole.
Noah
Yeah.
Fran
Just as a whole. God, I. I can't. So hard.
Noah
But not as much. Like, I would say Fiji's, like, in my top three, but that.
Fran
That's obviously right. But I feel like there are obvious ones, right. Like Fiji and Jonas Khan and, you know, the humongous guests that we've had. It's so hard to.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
Differentiate people's choice. Some of my favorite moments are the ones carpets pre and post show, you know?
Guest/Various Guests
Yeah.
Noah
You guys think.
Rhea
You know the show. Age video.
Fran
The age video never gets old.
Listener/Caller
Yeah.
Noah
Kate Hudson is.
Fran
Kate Hudson always gets old. I'm trying to think. I. It's hard to pinpoint three.
Noah
Drew Barrymore is cool.
Rhea
And I will Also say that's, like, even more. Just not even, like, guests surrounded, you
Fran
know, I will also say, each year I say to myself, how will we top the last year? I do this every single year. I get nervous for the year, and then it somehow tops the year before.
Rhea
And it's amazing.
Fran
And I hope that we continue on that path because that's the only thing you could wish and hope for when you are doing this job, is to always be better than the year prior.
Sponsor/Advertisement
But,
Fran
like, we ended the year on an amazing note. We come back, the first thing we do or one of the first things we do is Dylan O' Brien and Rachel McAdams. Like, and then I go, oh, my God, this is going to be a great year. And, yeah, you know what I mean? It's just those moments where you never know what you're going to get and you get worried, like, oh, no, what if people don't want to come on our show anymore? And look at all these amazing shows that people do that are, you know, blasting off and becoming huge. But every year, it only gets better, in my opinion. So I'm happy to keep on that path.
Rhea
We love our beautiful community that we have.
Fran
We do. We really do. We have the best. Always when we meet you guys, we're always like, we have the best listeners. Always so supportive.

Rhea
And you guys have been amazing. I'm talking to you three.
Fran
Yes, the team.
Rhea
Sarah, Maddie, we love you guys. You guys are amazing.
Fran
The best.
Rhea
We couldn't do everything that we do without you guys and all of your hard work and even Noah.
Fran
No, I mean, listen, Noah really does this together.
Rhea
Noah, he really does this show's literally nothing without Noah?
Fran
Yes.
Rhea
He has been here from the beginning. He's worked his ass off. He has been available 24 7.
Fran
24 7.
Rhea
And has always, like I said, for his dating profile, dare I say, very reliable.
Monica Barbaro
Extremely reliable.
Rhea
He's always been. Always been there, always willing to get shit done, always willing to work late, always willing to make sure he's putting out the best possible product he can. And the show's only excelled because of how much work he puts into it.
Fran
Absolutely.
Noah
Thanks, guys.
Rhea
And I mean that.
Noah
Wow.
Fran
As you should.
Noah
You guys have been pretty good, too.
Fran
Thank you. I appreciate it. I mean, for those who don't know, Noah was the first. We've been together since the beginning.
Noah
Yeah.
Fran
Me, Fran, Noah, those videos of us,
Rhea
like, sitting in the merch closet. Like, Noah was behind the camera. Yeah.
Fran
He. He was the one filming and editing. And he is a perfectionist in the best way. He is the best of the best. He's the best producer in this place by far. And I don't care if anybody else gets mad at me for saying that. There is nobody at barstool that is a producer like Noah. Everyone's fantastic, but he is the best of the best. And we're happy that we're de la creme. Yes. And our whole team is. And I would put our team up against anybody and say we have the best team in the business, because the amount of times we've been to meetings and they got to show people the ropes.
Rhea
Yeah. Or outside, people are so shocked. Like, I've done other podcasts where they're like, your team is just a monster.
Fran
Absolutely.
Rhea
They're like, how do you turn. You get your episodes out so quick. You do things so quickly. You're so on top of your social. I'm like. I'm like, literally, there's. Maddie runs our. Like, there's one person, like, it is there, and everyone is always so impressed and, like, in shock of how they do that. So I think it's always nice to hear.
Fran
And you all work so well together as well. Like.
Rhea
Yeah.
Noah
You know, that's why I'm excited for this trip. We're going on tomorrow because weekend with Palm Springs.
Fran
Palm Springs, here we come. What's funny is Fran is arriving a little bit later than the rest of
Rhea
the team, and, well, not to. Not to completely change the subject, but I got dumped. I got dumped by my dog walker.
Guest/Various Guests
Yeah.
Fran
It's bullshit.
Rhea
So I'm not quite sure what to do about it.
Sponsor/Advertisement
Mm.
Rhea
Summer's tough. I Haven't been in the city that much. That's fair. Olive's been out on Long island and, you know, my schedule hasn't been very consistent. And I understand, you know, you need consistency in dog walker, but we there. There's been. Has been a couple weeks of non communication. Normally they would check in, be like, what's your schedule like this week? And we would give it to them, the whole thing. It's been a couple weeks, we haven't heard anything. And I said, oh, you know, text them a few days ago. Traveling, we're back in the city. I know we haven't been around for a while and it's just like, all booked up. Sorry. I said, damn, I've been dumped. And it sucks because they were so great. It's so reliable. And I trusted them. You know, it's your. It's your dog that you love so much, and you want to want them to be with someone you trust. And, like, they're also in your home, in and out of your home, you know, and now I got.
Fran
Now I gotta, like, I got a stranger.
Rhea
Gotta fucking start from square one again.
Fran
Yeah, that sucks. Well, we feel bad for you and.
Rhea
But that is what led me to move my. That. That led me to move my flight back France.
Noah
Gonna get to the Airbnb. We're going to be.
Fran
Project X is going to be happening. Well, I'm cooking dinner for team Wednesday night, and Fran was like, save me some. I said, obviously, if Noah doesn't eat at all. Remember when. You remember when you tricked me at the Jersey store, said, you ate all the pasta salad?
Noah
And I said, oh, yeah.
Fran
Wow. Gay.
Noah
Oh, that pasta was good.
Fran
All right, maybe I'll make it this week. I don't know. But we will be there and we're going to have so much fun. I. Yesterday, I have to talk about this very quickly. My license expired on Sunday, my birthday, and I haven't gone around to legally changing my last name yet because I realized, like, our travel is pretty much booked until the end of the year with, like, shows and work travel that we have. And I'm like, okay, well, now I can't change, right?
Rhea
Well, there's no way to, like, change the name, is there is. Like, those flights that are already booked, would you just have to cancel them?
Fran
Seems just like a whole process.
Noah
But you're never going to not have a trip booked when you go to change.
Fran
I know. It's. It's very hard. So that's why I'm like, oh, my God, I have to do this. But it's, like, just taking me a while. But it's fine. Like, no, like, now what? Like, it's fine.
Rhea
I don't think anyone's like, give me your fucking driver's license to see that I see your last name.
Noah
Well, because you have a new password too.
Fran
And like, yeah, I literally have to change everything. And I haven't done it. But that's fine because personally, I go by my husband's last name. Professionally. Yeah, go by. But I do plan on changing it legally, but I just haven't done it yet. But besides the point, I was like, okay, I'll just renew my license online and then when I actually change my last name, like, I'll go through the whole process. Go through the whole process. But I don't want to go to the dmv. So I'll just renew it online for now. But I needed a vision test and.
Noah
Really?
Fran
Yeah, because it's. I don't know, I just needed a vision test to, like, renew it online. So I was like, oh, okay, I'll like, oh, I. Yes, whatever. To get a vision test.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
But then Matt was like, no, you can do a vision test online. And they just like, update, Upload it to the DMV and just renews your presence. And I was like, okay, how can I cheat on that? So he sent, no, it's not che thing. It's like a. A website that you get on zoom with, like a Whatever. So let me tell you, it was
Rhea
like, on like a zoom with a
Fran
stranger of all time. I got on a zoom.
Rhea
Are you looking at the eye chart? Yeah.
Noah
What if it's like a little blurry? No.
Fran
Through zoom with. What are they? An optimologist. Optimal optimist.
Noah
Optomet.
Fran
Optometrist. An optometrist. I don't know. It literally was like, boom, boom. Read two things.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
And optomet. Yeah, optometrist.
Rhea
It's an ophthalmologist.
Monica Barbaro
Also a thing.
Fran
Yeah. I think there's multiple.
Rhea
There's multiple types of ops, right?
Fran
Yeah. Opta eyes got on. Read like two things. They were like, you passed. Congratulations. I said, perfect.
Rhea
Wow, that's amazing. You're right. I do think there's a certain amount of time for. And I don't know if it's like every state where it's like, you do have to go redo it, because I remember when I did my license, when I renewed my license, but I guess I was getting my New York license and saying bye bye to my New Jersey license. And then I had to go. I did the eye test in the dmv.
Fran
I'm gonna have to go to the DMV at one point, but this one I was able to just renew. And they, no, well, you'll have this
Rhea
one for as long as you need.
Fran
Eye test.
Rhea
That's crazy.
Fran
Uploaded right to the dmv.
Guest/Various Guests
Boom.
Fran
Renewed my license immediately. It was the fakest shit ever. I mean, I guess it's.
Rhea
And that's maybe why we have so many bad drivers on the road.
Fran
That was my thought. I said, oh, well, no wonder everyone's getting approved, because they told me to take the amount of steps back from the screen, and they watched me take the steps back. And then they're like, all right, you're good right there. How do you know?
Rhea
How do you know how far I
Fran
really am from the screen?
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
And then, boom, I passed. And Doris was like, you could also,
Rhea
like, could have had someone off to the side.
Fran
Yeah.
Rhea
Like, being telling you.
Fran
I don't know. It was, like, too long. It was so fast. And that was it.
Rhea
What's your vision these days? Good.
Fran
Perfect.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
Was that basically so.
Guest/Various Guests
I don't know.
Fran
They said, congratulations, you passed. I didn't really get a score.
Rhea
Yeah. Yeah.
Fran
But good stuff. Good stuff. Yeah. So that was. That was almost just like, pause. I know. I literally would like his smirk.
Rhea
I keep looking up and just seeing him and being like, oh, my God, there he is.
Fran
Yeah, it was a nice smirk.
Noah
Ah.
Fran
Wow. You know what? It's, like, hard to talk about anything else with this being our thousandth episode, you know? Glenn, leave it on. Glenn, Glenn, Glenn. Soon enough we'll be able to talk about our time with Glenn.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Fran
Soon. I tease. All right, well, beautiful green eyes.
Rhea
Did you notice that?
Fran
Yeah, he's Glenn fucking Powell, man.
Rhea
Yeah, so does Trent.
Monica Barbaro
Honestly.
Fran
Yes, Trent does have beautiful eyes.
Rhea
He's got beautiful eyes, too. Should we go through those bad boys?
Fran
We think about everyone's eyes, everybody's eyes,
Rhea
you know, everybody's looking good. Greg, this is Dave, obviously, pre haircut.
Fran
Yeah. It seemed like he got a haircut recently.
Rhea
He did.
Fran
Yeah.
Rhea
Yeah, yeah. Greg also always cracks me up.
Listener/Caller
He's.
Fran
Keep fighting, keep fighting. Yeah. It's like, all right, well, thanks.
Rhea
He's always being. He's always a jokester.
Fran
I couldn't believe I said, I like
Noah
that it ended on Jake Shane.
Fran
I loved it because I like. He really is everywhere. I loved it, and we love it,
Rhea
and I love him, and I. You know, I like to think that he likes us.
Monica Barbaro
Too.
Fran
No, I like to think that he loves us as well, but he has so many friends.
Rhea
It's so true.
Fran
He has so many friends that it's like. I don't know if we crack. Crack it.
Rhea
Yeah. You know, enough to make the video, though. So I think that's.
Fran
Yeah. He went out of his way to make the video, and that's big. Yeah.
Noah
More than the Jonas Brothers can say.
Rhea
Well, no. Okay, you know, stop bringing it up.
Fran
It is what it is at this point.
Rhea
Okay, stop bringing it up. I'm going to continue to listen.
Fran
I'll.
Rhea
You know what? I'm gonna make a sign. Should I make a sign?
Noah
A sign.
Rhea
I got floor seats for msg. Oh, fun for burning up Tour all over again.
Fran
Yeah, make a sign.
Rhea
Giant sign. You did wish the office a happy.
Fran
Yes, absolutely. You should. Absolutely, you should. You have to make a sign. All right, I think that's it for the episode. I mean, we just wanted to celebrate a thousand, and we have this amazing video that we did not know was happening. Truly.
Rhea
I kind of had a feeling yesterday.
Noah
Fran was like, oh, is something. I'm like, no.
Rhea
Well, we were talking some logistics about the. About our next few episodes, and I could just read it on Noah's face because he, like, he. He was just. We were on Zoom or whatever when we were recording. He's like, yeah, I. I don't think
Fran
we should do that.
Noah
But did it not come out?
Rhea
And I'm like, okay. I just. I was picking up on the scent a little bit.
Noah
Didn't. Were you ever like, oh, I wonder if there. I feel like you had said it once, being like, are you making another video like the 5?
Fran
No. I genuinely didn't think anything of it. I'm not gonna lie.
Rhea
We only said it one time as a joke, and it was, like, months ago. Like, when we were. When we were in, like, the 900s, I think we were like, yeah, oh, what, are we gonna have another video?
Fran
And.
Rhea
But I don't think we.
Fran
I didn't think anything of it, so it was a genuine nice surprise. Yeah.
Noah
And it's like, 1,000 is like. There's not many milestones after a thousand. I was like, even 2000 doesn't sound that bad.
Rhea
No, a thousand is the big one. And because after a thousand, it's like maybe 5,000. 5,000 is insane.
Fran
Not many podcasts, I feel like, have reached that yet.
Noah
No, no.
Fran
So this is big.
Noah
Hey, Jonas, if they ever reached a thousand, good luck. We will not be fucking sending you a congrats.
Fran
Don't even ask. Oh, man.
Rhea
All right, well, see you at msg. I'll be there. Don't worry, guys.
Fran
Yeah, with a sign and everything. Well, thank you guys so much. And we'll, we'll talk to you on Friday. We'll be live from Palm Springs, so maybe we'll have topics, we'll have stories.
Rhea
I'm getting my dance on this weekend.
Fran
Yeah, we're gonna be dancing. It's gonna be great. We do have a great interview on today's episode.
Rhea
We do.
Fran
It does feel reminiscent of we're engaged. Plus out of the vine. It is the thousandth episode. Plus Monica Barbara.
Rhea
Yes. And you know what? We had so much fun with her and she is so fantastic that it does feel like a fantastic matchup.
Fran
It does. You know, she was so fun. Loved her. I really loved the interview.
Rhea
Yeah. So, yeah, I walked out of here gushing about her. So I feel like it's a. We're in such a happy mood right now. Everything's been so great. Celebrating a big thing and I feel like it's a good way to end the episode.
Fran
Absolutely. So let's get into it. Nair is the award winning number one hair removal brand. You can discover sensational fragrances and feel silky smooth skin for days longer than shaving. Rhea
All right, everyone, we are here with a very special guest. We have Monica Barbaro in studio. We are so excited to have you here. We love you. We are such big fans and we watch One Night Only and we loved it. It is so fun.
Monica Barbaro
Thank you so much.
Rhea
And I just how excited are you for people to see this movie? Because it's, it's a little different from the last few things that you've done.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah, yeah. It's a little more absurd.
Fran
Yeah.
Monica Barbaro
I'm so excited for people to see it. I, I genuine. This is one where like, yes, of course it's best for everyone if a movie does well in the box office. But like, this is one where I really feel like a lot of people would just have to such a fun time seeing it that I really. I want people to have that experience. I know that sounds. That may sound crazy, but that may
Fran
sound like, I don't think that fake so much sense. It's summer. We want fun movies. We love fun rom coms. Like, I think that makes total sense to want people just to have a good time while watching a movie.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. There's something, like, cathartic about the movie, too. The way it talks about dating and, like, that kind of, again, absurdity. And then also just, like, it's in this world where, like, the government feels out of control, but, like, everyone's just trying to find love and do their thing.
Rhea
Yeah.
Monica Barbaro
And, like, live their lives, you know, Like.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
Because you.
Rhea
You kind of have to get Pat. Like, at first, you're kind of like, wait, I'm sorry, the government? And when you. And then you're like, oh, my God, they all have, like, their bio scanned. And you're like, wow. But then there's also funny commentary because you're kind of like, oh, this is absurd. But, like, crazy shit happens in this. In. In this world. And, like, but these people just want to find love.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. And when, like, Molly Ringwald and LeVar Burton have this banter, like, they go back and forth about, like, why this happened. It's just like. It just feels, like, so real. It feels like every household in Covid just, like.
Fran
Right, exactly. How did you join the film? Like, when you received the premise, the script, how did you feel about it?
Monica Barbaro
I feel like absurd is the name of the game. I. I was pitched this, and I was like, I. I just. It was that kind of, like, what. That sounds crazy, but also made me laugh. And I just felt kind of immediately intrigued. And they were like, will wants to meet with you before you read the script. So I was like, like, for us, sometimes that's like a red flag. Like, as if the script is not going to be great. And then we had this meeting. He was like, super funny, super great. We have a friends in common. And. And he had a really interesting take on this movie where he was like, okay, I want you to watch Uncut Gems. I want you to watch Midnight Run and what was the other one? After Hours.
Rhea
Okay.
Monica Barbaro
And so I was like, you. That. That's not. You haven't mentioned a single rom com. But, like, tonally, it's such a specific take on this film. And then he sent the script, and I was, like, laughing out loud reading the whole thing. And so. And everyone that I trust who also read it Was like texting me live. Like, I keep laughing. It's really great. So it just kind of felt like a no brainer. And it's. It's a concept that's crazy. But it also makes you go like, what would I, what would I do? Or what does the rest of the world look like in that alternate universe?
Fran
That's the best kind of conversations after you leave a movie. When you leave the movie theater and you're talking to whoever you went with, you're like, what would you do? Also, we love so many of Will's movies. I feel like, like you said, like, watching just a fun movie is exactly what we get. Will Glock, the director, writer. So fun. I mean, we were just talking about Fired up right before this. We were like, we can't believe you did that movie. One of our favorites.
Rhea
Not one that's talked about enough in our opinion. No, Truly? Yeah.
Monica Barbaro
No one has mentioned Fired Up. I need to like, rewatch that.
Rhea
That is what is worth a rewatch because it is also so absurd. But you laugh at every single part and has done so many amazing rom coms. Easy A Friends with benefits. Like all these great movies.
Fran
And you know when you have those movies with your friends that you quote really often that maybe some people don't like, that's fired up for you.
Rhea
Yeah, I don't know. Really hit bro Heavy Dado.
Noah
Yeah, yeah,
Rhea
yeah.
Fran
No, no, no, don't say it.
Rhea
What does he say? Ted and Crocs.
Fran
I mean, we can go back and forth.
Listener/Caller
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Fran
I get knocked down. The whole movie is upset.
Monica Barbaro
Will is going to enjoy watching, watching you guys do this so much.
Fran
Like, get her off the screen.
Monica Barbaro
I've seen too much of Monica. I just want to watch them quote my movie.
Fran
Carly Davidson. Yeah, it's just one of those back and forth. So you have to rewatch it.
Monica Barbaro
I really need to rewatch it because
Fran
you're kind of like missing the inside joke here.
Rhea
So it is.
Fran
I'm missing everything.
Rhea
So good. But he also has some amazing pairings. You know, we watched anyone but you was so great. And Glenn and Sydney Sweeney were so great in that movie. And you and Callum Turner are so good in this. In this movie. What was your first interactions like with Callum? Had you met him before?
Monica Barbaro
No, we'd never met before. We met. Our first day that we met was at the beginning of like a short rehearsal period with Will. And he's just a great, nice, easygoing guy who also takes the work really seriously. So it's like that great combination of having high standards, but also really wonderful to work with. Oh, God. Bravery Smoothie is fighting back. My body's like, you're eating. Thank you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Guest/Various Guests
He's.
Monica Barbaro
He's great. He's. And it was just, yeah, like, silly and fun and easy and. And Will, like, famously, with his rom coms, he loves that bite banter, kind of like ribbing comedy, and so that just felt very easy to do. I think my dog was there, and he was really great with my dog, and I was like, oh, you're a good person, you know?
Fran
Yeah.
Noah
Yeah.
Fran
That's like a telltale sign.
Monica Barbaro
It just kind of.
Fran
Yeah.
Monica Barbaro
Is.
Fran
I feel like your press that you have been doing together has been so fun. Was that kind of the vibe on set?
Monica Barbaro
Yeah, it was just. I, like, I wouldn't say making the movie was easy because making a movie is always challenging and hard, and it was like 20 degrees in the middle of the night pretending it's the dead heat of summer. But it was easy in terms of the relationship with Callum and Will, and just like, we were like a. We were like a familial trio and just sort of, like, giving each other shit all the time. And. And also we had a lot of safety, which I think you need comedically to be able to try things and fall on your face and then try again. And, yeah, Will really fostered that kind of, like, freedom environment.
Fran
What's that feeling like when you sort of take a risk? Maybe you go off script and you want to try something funny and then it works or it doesn't work.
Monica Barbaro
I feel like you must. Well, never mind. You're funny all the time. I'm sure.
Fran
Yeah, I was just gonna say. Excuse me.
Monica Barbaro
I'm so sorry. Veronica, what's it like to fail at being funny?
Fran
I don't relate.
Monica Barbaro
I'm so sorry. I've never had that happen before.
Fran
So can you tell us more about it?
Rhea
Meanwhile, she made us do a whole bit for the podcast yesterday that she. Then she said we weren't being funny enough, and we cut the whole thing.
Monica Barbaro
What did that feel like for them?
Fran
Not good.
Rhea
For us, it was.
Fran
I was doing great. Just kidding.
Monica Barbaro
You just got the Will and us dynamic of. Yeah, scrap that. It's not funny.
Fran
Cut, cut. Yeah, but, yeah, that's the.
Monica Barbaro
Doing it. Like, I think the worst is trying to do something maybe five times and then him coming forward and being like, yeah, that's not working. You're like, we got that.
Noah
Yeah.
Monica Barbaro
Clear.
Fran
Picked up from your reaction.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Guest/Various Guests
Yeah.
Listener/Caller
What's A.
Monica Barbaro
And the lack of crew smiling, everyone.
Rhea
Right?
Fran
Yeah. I feel like there's been more discussion lately about the way directors or the crew react to actors on set. What's a good reaction from Will?
Monica Barbaro
From Will? He gets this, like, cheeky smile. His shoulders are, like, up, and he'll, like, walk in like this and be like, that's really funny. That's really funny. He's, like, kind. He's, like, very cool. But he's also kind of an absolute nerd.
Fran
Yeah.
Monica Barbaro
I don't know how to explain it. He's like. He's, like, young and with it. But then also there's, like, something. I'm so sorry, Will. There's something, like, deeply kind of dweeby about him in a really adorable, wonderful way. Kind of. Kind of like the Owen character in this movie where you're like, I think I love him even more when he's embarrassing himself in some capacity in a more endearing way. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're sort of like, oh, you're kind of a nerd.
Rhea
Yeah. And is it fun? Like, I feel like comedians talk about this all the time when they're in a room and they want a laugh, but maybe the audience can't laugh for some reason, so they're like, I don't know what. I don't know if this is funny or not. I really think of. Cause I always think of.
Monica Barbaro
That's what people tell themselves. They couldn't laugh, famously.
Rhea
The SNL audition musicians is like, no, they're all in the room.
Fran
No one laughs.
Monica Barbaro
Yes, I've heard.
Rhea
So it's like, you don't know. Like, you could have bombed or been really good, but no one really has a reaction. With a massive crew around you and you're. You're telling jokes, they can't audibly be laughing.
Monica Barbaro
Yes. They can't make noise, but. Oh, Luke on the Handicap. So we had. There was. It was a lot of, like, handheld cam, like I said, like, the Uncut Gems kind of energy of, like, that frenetic, kind of chaotic New York City energy was a part of how they filmed this. So. Poor thing. Especially when you're going through loads of comedic attempts and in these long scenes, like, a handheld camera is heavy. So he's just, like, living that way. But we knew we were onto something good when, like, you try to not know that the camera's there, but you kind of do. And we could always just see, like, from behind his. All you could see was this part of him, and you could just see. See when something was funny. He'd just get this really big grin. And so that was, like, our little tip off that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rhea
But they were going good.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. But if we were in. In a giggle state and, like, couldn't control it and then he was doing that.
Listener/Caller
It was. It.
Monica Barbaro
That was. That was really hard. But, yeah, I think maybe that's the. Maybe that's the blessing of not waiting to hear laughter, like, because they can't. We can tell ourselves, like, oh, well, they would be laughing if they could.
Fran
Yeah, Right. We crushed that.
Rhea
Yeah, absolutely. Callum has, you know, famously British, although people may not realize that.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Rhea
Because I think he does an amazing, like, New York.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. Incredible accent.
Rhea
And it feels fairly authentic where it's like. But I do find that his American accent just in general, like, feels like a New York accent.
Fran
And he's done it multiple times now.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. Masters of the air. He's an American pilot. Yeah. I think I. I thought it was flawless. Will would sometimes, like, catch a sound and I'd be like, will, I disagree. Yeah, it's perfect.
Rhea
Yeah. I thought it was great. Like, I thought he does a great, like. Like, good New York words. Not like. Like a character of a New York accent. Like.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rhea
Like, it was. It was good. It was good.
Monica Barbaro
I think, if anything, that was maybe more of the. Like, Will would be like, that sounded like really New York.
Fran
You're gonna.
Rhea
Tore it down just a little bit.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. We don't sound like that. Yeah, yeah.
Fran
I know you own a pizza shop,
Rhea
but just bring it down a little bit. And I guess also we're talking about the movie, like, everybody knows. We're talking about. The premise of this movie is that there's only one night a year that premarital sex is allowed.
Monica Barbaro
Yes.
Rhea
There's a ban on premarital sex. Government mandated. And there is one night. So it is a. It's a hilarious watch because when you see that clock hit. Chaos in the streets.
Monica Barbaro
Yes.
Noah
How.
Rhea
What were those moments like, filming in the streets of New York? Because everything is in New York City.
Monica Barbaro
That was. I mean, that was a test of my own ability to not. To try and not laugh at very hilarious things that were happening all around me.
Rhea
It was.
Monica Barbaro
It's hard to shoot in New York City because there's a lot of paparazzi, but also just, like, people walking by and staring. And also, we were shooting for summer, but it was the fall and winter, so we couldn't. You couldn't just blend the background into the shot. Like, we had to clear we had to wait and clear all of the people on the street a lot. And I just. I have adhd. So, like, anytime someone, like, stops and is like, is that Callum Turner? I'm like, I'm sorry, I can't. I don't know how to stay in the scene, which he was much, much better at. But, yeah, I mean, we had incredible background. Actually, most of them are actual couples. There was this one duo where I was like, you're a couple, right? And they're like, we're just friends. I was like, oh, okay.
Listener/Caller
Okay.
Rhea
Well, maybe not after today.
Fran
Eight hours later, are you guys still just friends?
Guest/Various Guests
Yeah.
Noah
Yeah.
Rhea
You guys have had to make out a lot in the back of this scene. Is it doing anything for you?
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. And that was the thing, too. Like, you'd start the day, and people were like, let's do it. And then, like, the eighth hour, they were like,
Fran
like, you guys don't need to kiss me.
Monica Barbaro
Here we go again.
Fran
What was it like? You know, you mentioned paparazzi. Maybe you go online, you see a shot from what you're filming. What's that reaction? Like, are you upset about it? Or you're like, this is just the name of the game now
Monica Barbaro
for this movie. It didn't bother me nearly as much as, like, for a complete unknown. It was sort of like I had to just, like, shut down, like, not look at any Internet anything. Because I know the number one comment is gonna be how wrong we are for the part or how, like, inaccurate it is or so. And I was, like, so terrified, so concerned with, like, getting everything right in that. In that film. And it's really distracting. Cause it doesn't feel like 1960s New York.
Fran
Yeah, it shot near me in Jersey.
Monica Barbaro
Oh, yeah.
Fran
I was actually stalking you guys. Do you live in Jersey? Yeah, I live in. Yeah, that was me. No, I live in Jersey City. And you. That's where a lot of the filming took place.
Monica Barbaro
Yes.
Fran
Because it looks I minded my business.
Rhea
I wasn't.
Fran
You know what I mean? Like, I was like, let them shoot.
Rhea
Just want to clarify.
Fran
I just want to clarify. I was telling everyone on the street to let you guys be.
Monica Barbaro
I would love for, like, footage to
Fran
leak of you just, like, it's me. She's not right for this. Yeah. Nominated for an Academy Award. Really?
Rhea
Oh, my gosh.
Fran
I disagree.
Rhea
But you're right. Like, it's playing. You're playing a real. Having to play a real person and then having the feedback from that paparazzi pictures from this is like, they don't know who I am. They don't know my character. They don't know really the details.
Monica Barbaro
And the main thing with this, I mean, again, it was just sort of the distracting element. But I found that in this kind of a situation, if you do talk to them directly, rather than, like, have someone, like, throw them off your set and, like, not treat them like a human being. Helps because, like, actually, a lot of them are. They understand. The ones who, like, come to sets, they seem to understand eyeline. So, like, if I was like, I have to look in that direction and act like something else is happening in front of me. Can you please get out of the eye line? They would understand that. Or, like, if our ad went to them and. And we're like, hey, can you guys just move over here? Like, often they were willing. Not always.
Rhea
Yeah, but yeah.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. More often than not, the ones who are, like, really dedicated and are always on sets seem to kind of, I don't know, understand that. Which is weird, because then you're like, I don't know. It feels like there's, like, a machine around it that I just never knew about before.
Rhea
You made your job about this is your whole job, like, to do showing up at sets kind of.
Monica Barbaro
Kind of.
Rhea
Well.
Monica Barbaro
And then you're like, oh, I really don't want this element to leak. Or, like, you know, you don't want the end of the movie to be out in the press before it gets to happen in the. But luckily, the fun thing about this is that Ali fantasizes a lot. So, like, whatever has been seen on the Internet as you're watching the movie, that may or may not be really what happens in this.
Rhea
I do. That is a smart way to do it, too, because I actually do really remember seeing all the paparazzi shots of Pete Davidson and, oh, yeah, Bobby. Bobby Cannavale are like. I remember seeing those shots of them filming, and everyone was like, oh, they're in this movie. It's the whole thing. And then watching it, I'm like, there they. There they are. That's their moment. Because it's really just like a. Like a kind of a quick cameo type thing.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Rhea
So you don't know until you watch the movie. Like, you're looking at these pictures, you don't really know what's going on.
Fran
Right. And as consumers, like, we don't want to be spoiled either. So it is a weird line of being excited. People love you guys, seeing you guys film a movie together, but then being like, wait, we don't want it to be spoiled. Yeah, we want to be surprised as well.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Rhea
Which I still felt we got with them. Like, I. Yeah, it was.
Monica Barbaro
You didn't feel spoiled?
Fran
No.
Monica Barbaro
Amazing. Also, when you've got, like, boob tape or like a harness or like something, you're like, can you. Can you please, please just not share
Fran
the one where my.
Rhea
Right, right.
Monica Barbaro
Actual tits are out? Yeah, that would be.
Fran
That would be kind.
Monica Barbaro
So appreciate that.
Listener/Caller
Thank you.
Rhea
Really appreciate that. Asria did just joke, but in all seriousness, Academy Award nominee.
Monica Barbaro
Oh, yeah.
Rhea
Which is so incredible. That movie was.
Fran
I thought you were gonna talk about my tits.
Rhea
Yeah, I thought about it, but I decided to spin it to a tier Academy Award nominee.
Fran
We'd like to take the next 20 minutes.
Rhea
Yeah. Thank God I have that.
Monica Barbaro
We don't have to just talk about my tits.
Rhea
Yeah. Instead of the being an Academy, the Oscars.
Noah
No, no, no.
Fran
Let's go back.
Rhea
Let's go back, but let's elevate it. That is. That has got to be just one of the most fulfilling feelings, getting that nomination. Where were you when you were told about it or watched it?
Monica Barbaro
I was in London, so it was like middle of the day, and I was in a fitting with an incredible costume designer who is friends with our costume designer. And we were actually kind of looking more to see if the costume designer got it and, like, who of the group got it. But I. I didn't. I did not have any expectation that, that. That I would be in that on that list. That was a. That was like a nuts. That was crazy. I mean, like, I had to kind of like process it the night before a little bit because people told me it could happen, but there was no, like, oh, for sure this is happening. I don't know that anyone feels that way, but some people, like, through the process of an awards season, are constantly getting nominations. So it maybe is a little bit more like, still exciting, but kind of like, okay, we thought this would happen. I was definitely more of like a late kind of surprise. So it was truly nuts is the
Rhea
timing of, like when that movie was released was definitely on the. On the later side of the year.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Rhea
So it was like, I remember trying to kind of rush to make sure I saw it before all the nominations and things started to come out well
Monica Barbaro
and like, Timmy and Ed had gotten Golden Globe recognition and BAFTA recognition and so, you know, maybe critics choice too. And so I just. I didn't. There was no assumption that I would be a part of that. And so that was kind. It was kind of mind blowing and like, just the coolest. So amazing ever.
Fran
How did you prepare for that? Because you go in and, like, you said, you weren't even expecting a nomination, but then you do get the nomination. Now you have to sit there and be like, am I gonna win this? What's gonna happen? How do I react when I win? How do I react if I don't win? Like, what is the thought process going into that night?
Monica Barbaro
This sounds kind of crazy, but, like, you do get a sense. I mean, there are a lot of online bets going on about these things. Like, people study it, and that doesn't mean you can predict it.
Fran
There's a lot of stats.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah, there's a lot of stats involved. And the stats about me said, she's not gonna win it. So I actually felt so certain that I wasn't going to get it. But I also felt like maybe this is the only time in my entire life that this. This will have ever happened. And everything I've done up until this point has gotten me here. And, you know, like, you don't want to do a disservice to it just because, like, you want to just embrace it and be present and really enjoy it. I had my dad with me because he's just, like, the least starstruck person in the world. And so it was really just, like, a very calming energy. Like, he's just there to. I mean, and yet, when we walked into the theater right before it started, he kind, Like. I could hear his. He, like, kind of held his breath and was like, whoa. Because it's just this huge. I mean, it's larger than life. And I was like, oh, yeah. Cause I'd been two years prior, and because I'd just been in this sort of publicity hole, I forgot to, like, take that moment and look. And he was really receiving it. And I was like, oh, oh, yeah. I'm so glad you're here. Someone who is not used to this or not jaded by it or overly experienced, he just. It was like, really, when he's impressed, it's, like, genuine, you know, and really
Fran
grounding, because it can really take you to that moment, which is hard to do, especially I feel like, with the recent years that you had. Because starting with Top Gun, I feel like, you know, when people talk about your career, they go back to Top Gun, and they're like this breakthrough moment. And then from there, did it kind of feel just like, oh, my gosh, I'm so booked and busy now. My whole world is changing? Yeah.
Noah
Yes.
Listener/Caller
And no.
Monica Barbaro
I mean, we also filmed top gun in 2018. 2019. So we sat on it for a really long time, and that felt like the slowest, longest period of time in my whole life.
Fran
And then.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. I mean, I don't know. It's funny. It's like all. I guess it's all perspective because I think to other. To some other people, it feels like it's rapid fire, like, building so quickly. And to me, maybe because I've been doing this for so long, it feels less like that. And yet I haven't been home for more than, like, five days, I feel like, in three years.
Rhea
Right.
Monica Barbaro
So I don't know. I don't know that I, like, have perspective.
Fran
Right. Well, you have been working in this industry for so long as well. Like you said, how did you initially get into it? Like, is it. Is acting something you did when you were younger? Is it something you always had love for? Like, what is more of your earlier story?
Monica Barbaro
I. I was in ballet. I was put in ballet, like, very, very young. And. But then when I was 12, in my school, like, everyone was required. It was, like, required Shakespeare. And we did A Midsummer Night's Dream. And I. I just felt it was that thing where I was like, oh, this is, like, what. I love this so much. This is the hardest I've ever worked on anything. And I, like, memorized everyone's lines and was like, time didn't cease to exist when I had that play open and was just reading through it. And I still didn't do it for a really long time. Cause I was kind of afraid of quitting ballet and also embracing what I felt would seem kind of like a pipe dream or, like. I don't know. I think I felt like it was. Like, if you say you want to be an actor, you're saying that you want to be famous or you want to, like. The associations with it, I felt like, were not as positive as it was certainly in my family. To be. To be. To excel at, like, a classical art form like ballet. Like that to my parents, I think was very special. And. Yeah, it's also, like, hard to leave something. Like, all my friends were in ballet and.
Rhea
And you were at. You were at NYU for. For dance.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Rhea
And the acting was kind of like, did I still.
Monica Barbaro
I held out for a really long time.
Rhea
A few acting classes, but, like, really held on to. To. To dance. I mean, ballet has got to be one of the strictest disciplines to participate in. What was that like for you growing up? Because I know it can be very tough on a lot of young Girls being in ballet.
Monica Barbaro
Oh, completely.
Rhea
Yeah.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. It took me years to get, you know, Whiplash. Yes. It took me years to get the artistic director of my ballet school to get her voice out of my head. And it was one that, for me, in my experience, was semi similar to that dynamic. Maybe not J.K. simmons. Yeah. I was like, oh, yep. And Miles character, like, also, like, wants more of it and becomes. It is a little bit chicken or the egg. Like, I know I was friends. Other friends of mine quit well before it got to that stage. So, like, the friends of mine I have who stayed in it with me, we sometimes are like. But also, was I kind of built for it? Did I like that kind of feedback? So, yeah.
Fran
That is an interesting conversation to have, though, Right. Because although very hard, you're like, is there a part of me that was thriving off that?
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. Cause I'm like, other kids quit. I remember there was a girl. We were about to have, like, one new teacher who was super strict, and I remember she was like. She was like, I. I'm so scared of that teacher. I'm quitting. And I was like, that's wild. But also makes a lot of sense and good for her. And my friends and I were like, nope. Yeah, gonna stay in it.
Rhea
Yeah.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Fran
It's like proving something to yourself and to other people, weirdly.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. You know, I think that maybe is a part of also why it. It felt hard to walk away from why I didn't just pivot into, like. I mean, I had. There were great drama programs in my hometown and at my high school and film, there was a. My school had, like, a public school in California. It had this amazing film program, which I also wanted to be a part of, but I just kept. I stayed in ballet.
Rhea

What made, like, is that what made you want to leave California and come to New York for college?
Monica Barbaro
I actually kind of thought I was like, well, once I'm at nyu, maybe I can like, start auditioning while I'm in class for like 12 hours a day with the dance conservatory. It was just nuts. I don't know. Somehow in my fantasy I was like, I'll become an actor once I get there.
Rhea
Right. That's just step one.
Listener/Caller
Yeah.
Rhea
It's like, get to New York and we'll figure it out from there.
Monica Barbaro
It's like an old timey, like, musical. I'm like, once I'm in New York, I can do it.
Rhea
Okay.
Fran
Maybe not exactly in that way. But you did do it.
Rhea
Yes.
Noah
You know?
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. I then had to like, like after college, had no money, had to like, leave New York and move back home. But it was San Francisco, which was a smaller market, to kind of like, right. Start out in the commercial thing. So it's kind of the opposite. I was like, oh, New York's big.
Fran
Get out of here.
Monica Barbaro
And then. Yeah.
Fran
Do you remember those early auditions?
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. Some of them were so rough. I think the worst one I ever had was one where it was like, the group all comes in. There's a group of people watching, like, like, we all come in, we introduce ourselves. And then like six people were told to wait like, off to the side, like they would be over there while one person is pretending they're in a water fight. And I was first. I was the guinea pig. And it was like, pretend you're in a water fight and just like improvise like you're talking to someone. But they weren't going to improvise with me. I just had to respond to nobody in a corner while six people stood there and watched me. And I remember that being like, can I, Can I keep doing this? Can I? I do have just enough shame to feel like this is so embarrassing.
Rhea
Like, did you. Would you have to pretend the water was being, like, thrown on you?
Monica Barbaro
It was like, stop it.
Rhea
Like, literally.
Fran
That's what I did.
Monica Barbaro
And then I also found out, and then they let me go after. So, like, the last person got to do that with no one in the room. I had to do it with everyone in the room.
Rhea
Yeah, yeah.
Monica Barbaro
And it was kind of that thing where it was like, okay, let's try something else. Like, they weren't organized, so they were just trying things.
Fran
And I was like, okay, just try something else now. Sure. On me. Okay, cool. Okay. That's amazing.
Rhea
And okay. So really, you are a triple threat. Because the dancing.
Noah
Because I can pick.
Fran
Tend to be in a water fight.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
Yeah.
Rhea
Quadruple, actually.
Monica Barbaro
I didn't get the job.
Rhea
Waterside down. And you have an amazing voice.
Fran
Thank you.
Rhea
Like, you're amazing singer. I loved seeing that be a part of one night only, because, you know, we. We saw, obviously, in a complete unknown, very different kind of singing for. For one night only. And I was, like, really laughing because these are some funny jingles that. That you're doing. But did you want to sing again in this movie, or was it something that maybe you were worried about because now people. Well, she's a singer.
Monica Barbaro
I mean, I thought I would be more prepared for it this time around, and I found out that I am just as terrified as I always was. It was less pressure because I didn't have to emulate someone who is so beloved. And also, I kind of tailored the character to be anxious about it in a way that I could just be my anxious self about it and then some and, like, have that be a part of the character more so. So that. So that was nice to get to, like, kind of be honest about it and to have slightly less pressure, but at the same time, I still am just, like. I mean, ballet. I can be, like, really hard on myself and want it to sound really, really good and do my absolute best. And if it's not sounding like the best thing I've ever heard, I'll just keep, like, going back over it. But I. I got to work with the same vocal coach I did on a complete unknown. So he. He knew the game right away.
Fran
He was like, we're back.
Monica Barbaro
And we actually, like, that was another thing. We would. We would. We would rehearse the song, and we would just, like, bust up laugh. Particularly the psoriasis song.
Fran
Yes.
Monica Barbaro
We would just laugh so hard. It was, like, hard to get through it, which. That felt cathartic too. To kind of put music in that space and just have it be a little bit more free and just silly.
Rhea
Yeah. And it was so funny because we all see the commercials all the time.
Fran
So relatable.
Rhea
So it was funny to think, like, I was like, wow, who does sing those songs? You know, Like.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Rhea
Which makes you laugh.
Monica Barbaro
Just like a working singer.
Listener/Caller
Yeah.
Rhea
And. And when it kind of. When the movie introduces your character, I was like, oh, that's so nice. Like, she's a singer in New York, and then you. Then psoriasis comes out. I was like, oh, this is a different. She's not, like, recording her new album.
Fran
Something we joke about on our podcast too, are these jingles. So it did feel very relatable.
Rhea
Apparently, they don't have so many funny ones.
Monica Barbaro
They don't have them in Australia or England. They're, like, illegal there.
Rhea
I could see. I could see that. I mean, because they are catchy. Yeah, but it's so catchy.
Monica Barbaro
It's dangerous.
Noah
Yeah.
Rhea
But it is really just a complete ripoff of an original song.
Guest/Various Guests
Yeah.
Rhea
Yeah. Someone else's song.
Monica Barbaro
Well, and maybe it's like the promotion of pharmaceutical.
Rhea
I don't know.
Fran
It really ropes you in music. Just gets you going.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Fran
I was like, are they gonna get it in those?
Monica Barbaro
Will they be like, what?
Fran
No, no.
Monica Barbaro
But I think they will.
Fran
Yeah. Because you talked about how, you know, you're a perfectionist when it comes to these things and how singing in a movie can make you anxious. Is it something you want to keep doing? Is, you know, doing films where you are singing, or is it something you kind of just like, if it feels right?
Monica Barbaro
I think if it. I think if it feels right, I'm not seeking that out. And I wasn't for this, but I was like, okay. I actually think, yeah, it's nice to take some time off of it. But, yeah, if another one came up that I felt really excited about and had to do that, I'd be like, okay.
Rhea
Yeah. It makes so much sense in this movie. And I think Will has done, like, his. There's so many iconic musical moments in his movies that it. That it makes sense. You're like, well, this fits this movie. And working with him to do it this way, because there are so many, like, yeah, you know, you think about that big friends with benefits scene. Like, there's just so many big musical
Monica Barbaro
moments and, like, Pocket Full of Sun.
Fran
I was just gonna say that.
Rhea
Like, there's really so many things that it makes. And now when you hear the song, it makes you think of the movie.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah, yeah.
Rhea
And.
Monica Barbaro
And they're catchy for a reason. And also, I got to work with SD Haim, and she did, because she's, like, our composer on it. And not only am I just obsessed with her now, but she. She. She was just so great with understanding the comedy and also, like, getting my confidence up and, like, just playing. So our recording sessions were some of the most fun that I had. Even, like, Andrew Burnap, who, like, plays the song on the piano with me. We were with Will, like, trying to find the best possible song for that. And then once we found it, we're like, okay, how do we harmonize it? How do we do. And we had this. We had a little rehearsal thing moment in the recording studio set because there was a piano there where we were just trying stuff. And I was like, this is, like. I think this is literal heaven. This is so fun to get to just play with sd, try things, and design a song. I was like, I would love to work on music in some capacity if it can be the way SD does it, where it's just, like, fun and trying things and energy and, you know, free in that way. And she's so talented.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
I don't know if this is a weird thing to say, but you can tell by your speaking voice that you're a phenomenal singer.
Monica Barbaro
You know, you so much.
Fran
Like, you just can. Right.
Monica Barbaro
I.
Rhea
You're right.
Fran
It's just.
Rhea
I think you guys also would be great singers.
Monica Barbaro
Really.
Fran
Some of the worst you'll ever hear.
Rhea
Nope. Can. No, no.
Fran
Trust me. Our listeners are really tired of us.
Rhea
You know, I really love loving this interview. And we don't need to drop. We don't need people to drop.
Fran
We don't need you to think of us differently. We don't need other people to think of us differently. Like, it's okay.
Monica Barbaro
I do find. I think you guys both have incredible speaking voices.
Fran
Well, thank God we speak for a living. Thank you very much.
Rhea
But it does. Unfortunately for us, it does not translate.
Monica Barbaro
It doesn't translate.
Fran
I've always wanted it to translate. It's like, my dream, but it's actually so bad that it's not. Can't even be worked on.
Monica Barbaro
I don't think that's true.
Fran
No, it is true. Because when I was younger and my acting teacher said, hey, can I hear you sing Happy Birthday? But see, no, can I hear you just like, well, I want to see a tune, And I sang Happy Birthday. She said, it's not gonna be for you. We're just gonna Stick to the acting. You're not gonna be able to do the singing part, you know?
Monica Barbaro
Yeah, but I don't. That kid. I don't believe.
Fran
Monica.
Rhea
When we finish, maybe it's true.
Monica Barbaro
When we finish, can I hear a song?
Rhea
But when for you?
Monica Barbaro
Yeah.
Rhea
When did you find, like, who was the first person to tell you, wait, I think you can sing. Were you singing at a young age?
Monica Barbaro
No, I did a singular, like, season with a choir. Like, extracurricular. Should I try this? It was not real. And then I would sing at home to myself, but not much. And then.
Rhea
So was it really like a complete unknown where you were like, like, I'm going to sing for this.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And like the occasional thing, maybe in an acting class capacity, it'd be like, ah, you should maybe do. Have you ever, like, thought about that? It was that kind of thing. But, yeah, I think it was a complete unknown where it was like, okay, just natural.
Fran
Yeah.
Monica Barbaro
No, truly, though, Eric Vetra, like, I could not sing the songs that she sang in the register that she did. And Eric is a magician. Yeah. I had strep at the beginning of. At the end of this play run that I was just doing in London, and I had to do some ADR for this movie, including, like, sing a note or two to, like, clean up some stuff from set. And. And he. I don't know how he did it. I was like, I came in like a toad and then I was singing
Rhea
and then they just fixed it.
Monica Barbaro
Suddenly I was like, I have to. I have to have like, an equal animal to, like, a songbird.
Fran
I don't know. How do.
Monica Barbaro
I came in like a toad and was a beautiful hummingbird.
Rhea
How did you like working on.
Noah
How did you.
Rhea
Yeah, seriously, how'd you like working on the. On the West End?
Monica Barbaro
Oh, London theater is like the best. It's the coolest. It. The community is just really gorgeous and funny and wild, and I had a really great time with that.
Rhea
Was theater something you were interested in, like, when you first. Cause I feel like there's people who want to be an actor and they're like, I want to be in movies and then I want to do theater. And sometimes they don't really overlap.
Monica Barbaro
Yeah, I've wanted to do anything and everything since I've started, and I missed being on stage. That was my first play, like, official play, and I really loved dancing on stage, so I was really excited about that. And it was incredible. And the national kind of was like, it sort of feels like going to college in a way. Or like drama school or something. It feels almost like you're in dorms and like they have all the resources available to you that you might need. And it's. They're like, there's a subscriber base, so the audiences are always like, really strong. And it just. Yeah. It was just like the best way to launch into it.
Rhea
That's amazing. We have to wrap up. We could probably talk for like another hour. I'm having so much fun. But my last question for you is a. You gotta pick somebody out of. You've had some amazing co stars.
Sponsor/Advertisement
Mm.
Rhea
If you were to be on a strand, you had to be on a stranded deserted island with one co star. I'll give you three to pick from. Glen Powell, Timothy Chalamet, Calum Turner. Who. Who would you like to be stranded on a desert island with? They're all great picks.
Fran
Also like a Mary Kill.
Rhea
We won't do that.
Listener/Caller
We won't do that.
Fran
But it's like, we could talk about that on a different show.
Monica Barbaro
Which also should be like a Mary kid. It should be like a Mary Be my friend.
Rhea
Right, right.
Fran
Friend zone.
Monica Barbaro
Because like, sometimes you're just like, I don't want to kill anyone.
Rhea
Totally.
Fran
Right, right, right.
Monica Barbaro
Stranded island.
Rhea
Who's that? Who's getting you off the island? Glenn can fly a plane.
Monica Barbaro
The trouble it.
Rhea
That is so true.
Monica Barbaro
He just there logistics a plane there.
Rhea
He could maybe build one.
Monica Barbaro
And Glenn's like.
Fran
But I.
Monica Barbaro
No, he's sort of like a friend of ours now. So it feels like like kind of that's what I'm going through. Like, I'm not sure, but because he and I are like friends. If he sees like, he sees this. He didn't pick me.
Fran
Possibly see it.
Monica Barbaro
And you don't even know that guy as well as me. Be like, yeah, okay, so we'll just whisper.
Rhea
That's got to be Glenn.
Fran
It's got to be Glenn. We can see it.
Monica Barbaro
I don't know. Like, how is like when actors have been doing this for a long time, like their survival skills, I feel like fall away because me included, like, I earlier today locked my entire team out of my hotel room because, like, I didn't even think to bring the hotel key.
Fran
Right?
Monica Barbaro
So like, we lose our sense of self sufficiency. So I feel like. I feel like Glenn when I knew him, Top Gun, like, would remember would. Would maybe be able to get us off the island nowadays. Like, I don't know how big movie.
Rhea
Starglone Powell.
Monica Barbaro
I don't know, maybe Stargirl and Powell, has he lost the ability to.
Rhea
So fair question.
Fran
I also think Glenn.
Rhea
He's got that Texas in him.
Fran
Yeah. And I also think Glenn would be pumped to be chosen. You know what I mean? Like, I don't know.
Monica Barbaro
Kellen would be like, all right.
Fran
Yeah. I don't know. You know what?
Monica Barbaro
I want the guy who's gonna be
Fran
excited that I chose him. I don't know the other two, so I can't speak to that. But Glenn I know would be like, yes.
Rhea
Yeah.
Fran
You know?
Monica Barbaro
Yeah. And that's, like, why we're friends. Cause he's just very. He's just such a fun, enthusiastic. Okay. I think for the record, I think Colin would do a great job getting off the island, but, like, yeah, I'd love to hang out.
Rhea
And Timothy doesn't stand a chance. That's what we. That's what we. That's what we. Also clarify.
Monica Barbaro
I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. I just saw him play guitar.
Rhea
Thank you so, so much for coming. This was so much fun. One night Only is out Friday, August 7th, in theaters. Go see it. It's such a fun summer rom com. You'll laugh. It's great. Music's great. You're gonna love it. So head to the theaters to check it out. Thank you so much.
Fran
Thank you so much.

So fun.
