Fran
It's close enough.
Ria
It's close enough. We could wiggle around that. Go birds.
Fran
Go birds.
Ria
We are.
Fran
It's during football season. It is, you know, perfectly all that matters.
Ria

Ria
Yes. Very, very excited. We love a fall tour.
Fran
Nothing do.
Ria
Sprinkles.
Fran
Just the best.
Ria
Yeah, nothing tickles. I was gonna say sprinkles, but that works too. Tickles my fancy tinkles too.
Fran
You said tinkles.
Ria
It's the cold. It's the. It's the lingering cold.
Fran
You said tinkle. I did.
Ria
I did tinkle. It makes me tinkle. Nothing tickles my fancy like fall tour. I love it.
Fran
I know.
Ria
The weather changing, the vibes that are in the air. I love the fall. Freaking love it. So we can't wait. Remind our tickets on sale Tuesday at noon, September 9th. Make sure you're there or be freaking square. That's what they say.
Fran
That's what they say. That's what they say.
Ria
Exactly.
Fran
We are recording this episode a little bit earlier in the week because we are going to Savannah. Once this comes out, you know, too late. If you missed it, we missed you. We missed, you know, if you missed it.
Ria
If you missed the event, we missed you.
Fran
Yeah. Yep, yep. But we. I'm sure we had an amazing time always.
Ria
I always have a great time at the cocktail hours, the happy hours, dancing, singing.
Fran
You guys are traveling. You guys are gonna have one night without me in Savannah. I am. I'm arriving day of.
Ria
Yes.
Fran
So, you know, I will have fomo. Cause I also wish we were all watching the new summer I turned pretty episode together again. Which really should have factored into my planning more. But it was. It was dog priority with. I was like, ugh. I just, you know, extra. An extra day of finding somebody to help. It's easier to just have it be one day.
Ria
Right. So we will be watching the summer I turn pretty without you.
Fran
Out without you, unfortunately. Yeah, that's okay. That's okay.
Ria
On top of that, I filmed Matt's reaction to episode seven, but then he was traveling for work last week when episode eight came out, so I couldn't film his reaction to that. Cause I watched it. No, he hasn't watched it. But now I'm gone. He's behind.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
And so then I. So maybe I'll have to do when I get home on Friday, a back to back episodes 8 and 9 reaction from him.
Fran
Yeah. Because he may just have to watch eight.
Ria
He might have to watch eight without me. And then we could do a reaction to nine after that. But I would love to get his reaction to, you know, what happened.
Fran
Yeah, no, yeah. That's a big episode for sure.
Ria
For sure. So I got to. I got to figure that out.
Fran
But you have no. I just want to let you know the screen's still on. So.
Ria
Yeah, we can see your emails.
Fran
You're writing out an email that.
Ria
Noah, Noah. You're looking that up in the middle of work.
Fran
Disgusting.
Noah
It's not off.
Fran
Oh, my God. Working screen. What the hell? This is what you're doing when we're recording. That's disgusting. Noah, put that away.
Ria
But we are. I'm excited. We're going to a restaurant tonight that people had recommended. So we'll give a review on that, do a little walk around. We'll see what happens.
Fran
I heard it's very popular, but maybe overhyped.
Ria
You know, Fran, wow. Just because you're not gonna be there doesn't mean you need to throw fucking shade on our parade.
Fran
No, I just have. No, no, I've heard. I've heard fomo.
Ria
The same thing. I've heard that it could be overhyped. I also heard it's really good.
Fran
But I actually think that those are the places I always want to go to when I go to a new city. Because I'm like, well, I'll be the judge of that. Yeah.
Ria
Also, I'm a fucking tourist, so I'm gonna do the touristy things. You know what I mean? Exactly. So I don't really give a shit.
Fran
And I'm gonna go, no, I'm jealous.
Ria
And then I'll let.
Fran
I'm just jealous.
Ria
I could tell. And I'll let you know if it's overhyped.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
You know what? Green doesn't look good on you.
Fran
We are Elphaba and Glenda coated again today.
Ria
We are. We are.
Fran
It happens unintentionally. We've actually realized we've been wearing these same two for two. I'm wearing the same outfits this week.
Ria
We have. We realize we're very in sync with our outfits, which I think is a good thing, because we get the vibes.
Fran
Yes.
Ria
Like, we know what day we're dressing up. We know what day we're being comfy, cozy.
Fran
But it's always, like, opposite.
Ria
It's always the same, but opposite. Like, today we are truly.
Fran
I mean, we're in the same sneakers.
Ria
You're in black and green. I'm in sweatshirt.
Fran
Sweatshirt, and bike shorts. I'm in black and green, and you're in pink and white, so. And we both were like. And I know when you guys are all traveling, I'm like, I know. You know, travel day, you want to be in comfy, cozy.
Ria
Right.
Fran
I was like, she's probably gonna have her glasses on. And then I have my. Now I got glasses, and my glasses are green.
Ria
Right? There you go. Because I don't like to do makeup on travel days. I don't like getting on planes with makeup.
Fran
It's the whole thing. No, I don't want.
Ria
I don't like getting.
Fran
Wearing makeup on planes either. So only like 80 days or something till wicked for good.
Ria
Oh, my God. So exciting.
Fran
I know.
Ria
I can't wait.
Fran
The countdown is on. It felt like it would be so long ago, but now it's not.
Ria
I know it went fast, and, you know, we complained about it, but now it's. Now that it's here. Went fast.
Fran
Yeah, yeah.
Ria
And it's nice that we get another.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
Yeah.
Fran
And we're just really. We are just really in sync. I also said over the weekend, I burned my. Got, like, some sunburn on my lips. You did the same thing I did.
Ria
We're just very in sick. I.
Fran
And they still hurt.
Ria
Same. Yours is your top, mine's my bottom. We put them together. Kylie Jenner lips. But I walked upstairs, actually did kind.
Fran
Of like, the look.
Ria
I was like, ooh, no, honey, you don't need that. Your lips are perfect. No, don't. Don't get injections.
Fran
No, no, the lip kind of scares me.
Ria
Yeah.
Fran
There's other things that I would do, but the lips kind of scares me.
Ria
Yeah, I agree.
Fran
Because you just seen so many bad ones.
Ria
Exactly. You know, I totally agree. I walked downstairs on Monday, and they were like. It was so. It was like, literally, like, pouty face. They were like, you might have to say on the podcast, like, no, I did not get lip injections. My lips are just fucking burnt. But it went down since then, so we're in the clear. They're just very chapped, so don't worry.
Fran
I feel you, too. I've been, like, putting, like. I've been putting heavy lotion.
Ria
Yeah.
Fran
On my lips because they've been.
Ria
They've been so bad, but lotion those bad boys up.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
But, yeah, you'll be missed tonight. And, yeah, I know you'll be jealous, but we won't send you pictures of all of us together and stuff like that. No, I'm sure that.
Fran
I can't wait for Noah to Photoshop somebody famous.
Ria
Totally.
Fran
Whatever restaurant you guys are at, be like, wow, Fran, can't believe you're missing this.
Ria
But imagine we really do see somebody.
Fran
Yeah.
Noah
It'll be funny when it really happens eventually. And you think, like, you don't believe it.
Fran
Yeah.
Noah
And, like, you think it's a Photoshop.
Fran
I hope that. I hope we do get to that.
Ria
Day that did happen. When we were in Disney, we saw Kieran Culkin, and we told our. Our friends that we saw Kieran Cohen. They did not believe us at all. Right, right, right. They were like, no, no, that's obviously a lie.
Noah
I literally turned to. That's how you knew it was real.
Ria
Yeah, yeah.
Noah
He got punched. Friends.
Julianne Hough
Yo, yo, yo.
Ria
It's Kara Culkin.
Fran
So Starstruck literally went, oh. It's like, Fran, look. And I'm. And I. You know, and I still missed him.
Ria
But he had a kid on his shoulders.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
It's very sweet. Anyways, you watched the documentary last night. Unknown number.
Fran
I did watch. I forgot about that.
Ria
No, I've been.
Julianne Hough
I forgot.
Ria
I did not forget because 24 hours to discuss it with you.
Fran
I do want to talk about that. Let's do that. For first, I want to mention. Go Birds, the Eagles. Play Thursday. Football season's back, baby. Put my sweatshirt on, ready to go. Got some Go Birds. Walk around the street. It's funny, when you're in New York City, you would think you wouldn't get as much, but there's a lot of people here and super bowl champs, you know, so I've got a lot of, oh, go Birds. Go Birds. But they're. Once again. This will be out after the game, so. Hope they won, but, you know, Thursday Night Football, we're back.
Ria
So I am so with you. I'm a. I'm an honorary Eagles fan. I was actually telling my parents that we were going to Georgia on Thursday, and they were like, oh, shit, football starts. Like, Frannie going to be watching the Eagles Thursday night. I said, definitely. And they said, oh, like, maybe you should show up in Cowboys. And I said, absolutely not. I said, I'm. No, It'd be disgusting. I said, excuse me. I'm a supporter. I'm an honorary Eagles fan for Fran. Like, I'm an honorary friend for Eagles.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
So, like, I would never do that. And they were like, oh, that's nice of you. And I was, yeah, I'm not into that.
Fran
Like, go against the Eagles.
Ria
Show, like, you're never going to catch me slipping with that. Sorry.
Fran
And if it was maybe any other team, it'd be, like, maybe a joke. But, like, with the Cowboys, I think I'd actually be like. I mean, actually be like, what the.
Ria
No. And also, like, you know, Matt is a Giants fan.
Fran
Yeah. They don't like the Cowboys either. Yeah.
Ria
But also the Eagles.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
Like, I'm more supportive of the Eagles.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
They're better. That's why.
Fran
So that is true. I'm also.
Ria
I want to say this. I'm also an. I made myself this. I declared it a couple weeks ago. I haven't told anybody, but ready to bring it to the group. I'm an honorary Bills fan.
Fran
Yeah. Yeah.
Noah
Why?
Ria
I love.
Fran
Bills are great.
Ria
No. Oh, no. That's not.
Fran
Oh, no. I know. I. That was my own. But she. Your reason is.
Ria
No, my reason was because I really loved Buffalo when we visited last year. True, true. And I loved all the people that we met. They won him over. And I loved the food and I loved the vibes. And, you know, Josh Allen, Hailee Seinfeld.
Noah
Josh Allen's great.
Fran
I do love their dedication to the Bills, too. It's a very similar. I think it's a very parallel, like, fandom of Eagles fans to Bills fans.
Ria
Right. I just love it. And, you know, What? I ordered a Bills varsity jacket from Abercrombie, and I was like, you know what? It is very cool. And I was like, I think I'm like, an honorary. Yeah. Bills fan.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
So I got allegiances all over the place.
Fran
That's all right.
Ria
But that's what you like. Hey, I'm just a fan of football. How about that? You know, I kind of hate when people say that, but at the same time, like, that is me.
Fran
Right. You know, jumping in.
Ria
I'm just here for a good time. Place a couple bets here and there. Support you. Support my husband. Support the Bills randomly. You know what I mean? I don't know personally know any Bills fans, but I know our listeners. There's a lot of Bills fans, so I support them. And if they'll have me. Bill's listeners. Bill's Mafia.
Fran
Bill's Mafia. If you'll have me cordially inviting myself.
Noah
Tailgate.
Fran
Cordially inviting myself, I would love to. I'd love to see you jump through a table.
Ria
I'd love to be a part of it this season. Would you have me?
Noah
Would you jump through a table?
Ria
No.
Noah
Come on.
Ria
Come on.
Fran
What if we did it together?
Ria
If everyone was, like, yelling, like, do it.
Fran
Do it. Imagine a crowd of people. They're going, you know what?
Ria
Can I just say that was such an un. Bill's Mafia answer for me. How would they ever accept me if I were to say, no, absolutely, I jumped through a table.
Fran
Absolutely I will.
Ria
With the wing in my mouth.
Fran
Yep, Yep.
Ria
Okay. That was, like, right there. That little growl I just did. That was my football growl. So I'm in it. And we're ready to go Thursday night.
Fran
Woohoo. There's a new. It's coming out in October, but I guess Saquon has been filming this, like, full, like, documentary of his life for the last, like, five years. And it's coming out on Prime, I think, early October of, like, the last five years in his journey and whatnot. I'm very like. There's a teaser trailer in it, executive produced by Martin Scorsese.
Ria
Wow. Yeah. You think he included that night at Little Sister?
Fran
Probably. It's probably a whole episode, If I had to guess.
Ria
Were in the background.
Fran
If I had to guess, he was like. And then we want. But it'll be very interesting to see, like, the whole transition of, like, there's clips of, you know, him saying, you know, I want to try and stay on the Giants and all those things that went down there. But I. Anybody that has, like, the foresight to be like, you know what? I'm gonna film all of my shit because one day I'm gonna be so great that everyone's gonna want to see it. And it's true.
Noah
That's like the. The Jordan documentary. Like, all those things. It's like, wow. They really just knew.
Ria
Well, that was like, the Jonas Brothers documentary. They had all these videos of them. Yeah. When they were kids, singing and dancing, and it almost freaked me out because I was like, did their parents. And now there's a bug flying around.
Fran
I hated that.
Ria
Me, too. It, like, came out of the back.
Fran
Came out.
Ria
Where the.
Fran
Where did that bug come from?
Ria
It was almost like, how did the parents know? It was almost like the d', Amelios, too. Remember, like, when the d' Amelio parents had, like, all the home videos of them?
Fran
If you have talented kids, you're, like, recording them all the time anyway because you're like, my kid is so. So perfect and different and talented.
Ria
We have a lot of home recordings of us, but, like, not doing anything of talent. Same. It's just me smiling at the camera.
Fran
Like, yeah, my mom's got a lot of me just, like, trying to boss.
Ria
JB and G around, so that makes sense. Well, on the opposite side of that, like, I'm the youngest, so there's a lot of me being told to, like, shut up and, like, videos like, you're annoying and stu.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
You know, that's where the complex comes in. But it is what it is, so. Yeah.
Fran
Yeah, that's true. But that was very interesting, so I'm excited to see that. A lot. A lot of football. Like, a lot of documentaries they've been doing.
Ria
Yeah. The Kingdom.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
The Chiefs Kingdom.
Noah
I started watching the Cowboys one.
Fran
The Cowboys one on Netflix came out. Plus, I mean, then there's just always Hard Knocks, you know, there's. There's a lot. A lot of preseason stuff to. To watch.
Ria
Yeah.
Fran
Travis talked about. He said he's so happy.
Ria
He.
Fran
You know, he knows the person he's gonna spend the rest of his life with.
Ria
Everybody knows the person he's gonna spend the rest of his life with. And that's gorgeous.
Fran
Yep.
Ria
That's beautiful. And that's love for you.
Fran
It is that.
Ria
It is.
Fran
Talking about getting to college. Other fiance. So sweet. It is. It is such a thrill.
Ria
Yeah. And then on top of that, then husband and wife.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
Even better.
Fran
Yeah. Like, he mentioned that, like, when they went to that Cincinnati Nebraska game, that, like, that was the first time he was really, like, introducing. Heard other People being like, this is my fiance. Say, yeah, the best. Yeah, it's amazing.
Ria
We announced the tour, which we are so excited about, and we can't wait to have Truly along with us. Truly is so refreshing. It is amazing to just sit back, relax and enjoy your Truly. This past weekend, I was putting back a couple trulies, had the blood orange bliss, which I have in my hand right now. It matched the sunset, it matched the vibes. It was absolutely delicious, refreshing. And that's what Truly is all about. Having those flavors that are exciting and fresh and just effervescent with style. That is what Truly is made for. It's made to share. So you grab your friends, you grab a pack of Truly, and it's made with flavor. You know, those flavors are just absolutely delicious. So you know what? It's time to just sit back, relax with a Truly hard seltzer. You can find a Truly near you at www.trulyhardselter.com and use that Truly finder. Moving on to documentary. Yeah, I need to know. Sorry, I've been patient.
Fran
Okay. Spoiler alert, though.
Ria
Spoiler alert. We're going to be talking about the unknown number and we will reveal.
Fran
Yeah. Unknown number on Netflix. If you don't want to know who sent the text, don't. Don't listen to this. Okay? So I put it on and I watched with Joe. And let me tell you, five seconds, like five minutes in, Joe was like, I am not gonna like this. He's like, I can just tell already. I am not gonna like where this is going. And in my brain I thought, you know, the culprit never participates in the documentary. Well, of course, like, it's like it's always a who done it. And when they. When it's finally revealed, it's like that person isn't in the documentary. So as they're going through all the people, and it's like, is it this friend? Is it that friend? And then all the friends show up in the documentary. I'm like, okay, well, it's obviously not them. They're participating in the show. They're participating in the documentary. So I texted you. I was like, I'm thinking, I'm thinking it's a creepy teacher. Like, I'm thinking it's a creepy teacher that, like, fell in love with Owen. Owen. Fucking hottest guy in Beals. Beale City. Beale City, Yeah. This guy. Hot commodity. Everybody, Everybody wanted a sewing, even the girls in other towns. And I was like, ah, maybe creepy teacher, whatever. And then when it spun back around to the FBI Getting involved and it being her fucking mom. I was like, you got to be kidding me. It's. It's sick. And I forget what that guy's title was. Was he the. Like, I forget what he was. Prosecute something. One of the guys, he was like, I think this is like Internet Munchausens. Like, it's like technology based Munchausens.
Ria
Yeah.
Fran
Which you.
Ria
One of the sickest things I have ever seen. This mom needs to be put away.
Fran
Yeah, she was.
Ria
No, but like forever.
Fran
No, I know, it's crazy. The fact really is crazy. It's like, it's like technically in our. In our society, like, she served her time, she's out.
Ria
Yeah. But the fact that this woman is running amok still, like in able to contact her daughter. And honestly, somebody needs to get through the. Through to the daughter. I know that this was talked about and the daughter was like, you know, I don't care what people say, I still don't have a relationship with my mom. Somebody needs to get through to her.
Fran
No, that's asap.
Ria
Because this woman is terrifying. Genuinely. How sick in the head can you be as a human being? Like, and then she's talking.
Fran
May need to get a call from Gypsy Rose.
Ria
Yeah. And then she's. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Like, and then she's talking.
Fran
Obviously not to that level.
Ria
Yeah, you're telling. She should.
Fran
I mean, this. Your. Your mom's telling you to kill yourself a lot.
Ria
Your mom told you to kill her yourself. Like, on top of every other bizarre, disgusting thing she said, she told you to kill yourself multiple, endless times.
Fran
And then when the mom also was like, when they asked her, like, were you afraid of her, like, actually doing this? And the mom was like, no, not really. It was like, what? She was so. She deranged.
Ria
It's really the head.
Fran
The whole thing was so creepy because then I like took myself out of it for a second too and was like, this is so creepy already. But the fact that this really is a recent thing and they're both partisan. Like, everyone's participating in this documentary and the mom is doing it and the daughter and they're, they're like. I was just thinking of the process of filming this and reenacting all these scenes that they were doing and like, walking with the phone out and the mom walking around the house and like, sad face looking on the couch. I mean, there's a whole nother level of psycho when you go through all of this and then you're like, yeah, I'm gonna sit down and like reenact all this and people are gonna watch it for a documentary.
Ria
It's so, so, so disgusting. Literally mind blowing. I mean, the poor dad, the poor fucking dad.
Fran
She lied about her jobs, all of it, like everything. This woman is so sick.
Ria
She needs to be like, no, really taken away from society because it's so next level.
Fran
Like the rash, the rationalizations she was trying to make. At one point she was saying, you know, I committed a crime and there are other people out there. It's like, oh, you know, you run a red light, like commit a crime, like basically like comparing it to these like traffic violations and things of, or other, you know, low level crimes of like. Yeah. And then, and then you get in trouble. And she was like, some people get caught. Some people do it and they don't get caught, you know, and they just go about living their life. Some people do it, they do get caught. She's like, I got caught. Like, I, I, you know, and I'm gonna, It was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, we're not, there's no comparison.
Ria
No, it's not funny. But you, you laugh when you're watching this woman because it's so insane. Genuinely one of the most shocking.
Fran
Sending the daughter from jail. And just like that, that girl, my heart breaks for her because she's like, you know, I'm down to mend this relationship with my mom. Like, why? Why literally?
Ria
In what world?
Fran
Oh, so like I was, I couldn't therapy. I hope that she is it right. Like I, they didn't even really say no. I wasn't like, I'm trying to work through this. It's like, oh, what?
Ria
Don't you think this is like one of the most shocking documentaries you've ever seen?
Fran
And they're like, also in the same school.
Ria
It's wild.
Fran
Crazy.
Ria
And then Owen and she's just walking.
Fran
Around, she's like, yeah, me and, me and Owen don't talk anymore. Talking to each other in the, in.
Ria
The hallway, they don't talk. It's all the mom ruined everything. And then think about being Owen's parents. Yeah. Like, yeah, there's so many levels to this. And then, oh, and then you had Owen's parents blame Chloe and they're, they're texting me like, I know it's Chloe.
Fran
I know. I, I. And at a certain level too, I was like, they really let these texts go on for so long. At what point is it like, I know you want to find out who's doing it. Throw the phones in the trash.
Ria
Well, this is what Matt said, and I thought this was a good idea that they just didn't do was get them new phones. Yeah. Only give the new number to the people they're closest to. And then if the texts start coming, then, you know, it's like, process of elimination.
Fran
Totally.
Ria
But they just let them keep their phones. Like, the police were like, are you gonna get them a new phone? Yeah, because they couldn't block it because it's coming from secondary app. Every time they block, new number would come, which I understand, but I'm like, get them a new number. Get them new phones. Went on for almost two years. Yeah.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
But it's hard to say what you would do in that situation when you're trying to find out.
Fran
Right. Because they're like, at that point, they knew it had to have been someone that really knew them. So, like, the paranoia you must live with is so crazy. You know, I thought we're, like, kind of. Also gave me a chuckle, too, were Chloe's parents. Because obviously, like, they've been through a lot as well. But towards the end, like, Chloe's parents were like, I nailed this thing. From the beginning, we knew she was a creep. Like, you know, they're like. We were like, they failed. They failed this whole investigation. But from the beginning, we were like, you're looking at the mom or what?
Ria
Yeah. And they were like. They're like, yeah, Chloe's popular in different schools. People are jealous.
Fran
Big reach. I think they said, friend group has a big reach.
Ria
Yeah.
Fran
No, but I look it. That is so. It's so scary. It's so terrifying real for a second. People like this exist.
Ria
Like, it's straight up people like this.
Fran
And these, like, these poor children, not only, you know, Lauren and Owen and everything that they had to deal with, but all the other girls that were potentially framed or getting questioned by the police, like, all these things. The poor, poor cousin who was also, like, damaged. Like, Adriana just seemed like, who was maybe just going, shy girl. Shy girl had trouble making friends in school, maybe, and. And now she's getting dragged into this. A lot of, like, profiling that these people are just like, oh, I bet you it's her. It's like, what? From what?
Ria
No.
Fran
No basis.
Ria
You could have started that documentary and never. I would have named 20 people before I ever named the mom.
Fran
I waited to text you, like, 20 minutes after the mom said it was her, because I was like, is there gonna be some twist where it's actually not the mom? Like, I like, Was waiting for, like, it can't be her. Like, it can't actually be her. What actually happened? And then she kept saying too, like, I didn't start it. I wasn't the first one to say absolutely started it. I just, I just, you know, jumped on the train.
Ria
It's like, what?
Fran
He's like, no, no, you just jumped.
Ria
On the text bandwagon.
Fran
You sent all the texts.
Ria
1000. Absolute freak. I believe that she sent those messages. Yeah, like from the beginning.
Fran
Oh, I do. Too big. I do too. Because you don't get to the level.
Ria
It's like bounce around, like, oh, I didn't start it.
Fran
Well, it's not like you see them and you're like, oh, this is fun. Let me what the up.
Ria
You started about creaming all the time.
Fran
I don't know.
Ria
Accurately described by me.
Fran
Yeah, yeah.
Ria
Those were disgusting. No, it was disturbing all around.
Fran
No, the whole thing was actually so.
Ria
A shocking, disturbing documentary. And even if you listen to this and got it spoiled, still watch it. It will still blow your mind even if, you know. Yeah, I agree.
Fran
It really was just like absolutely terrifying.
Ria
So, so terrifying.
Fran
And we'll leave you guys on that.
Ria
Note, a very happy go. Lucky note that somebody's mother was sending them these disgusting.
Fran
Harassing them.
Ria
Harassing stalking messages concerning text messages. Yeah.
Fran
No.
Ria
And now we'll get into the rest of the show. Yeah, absolutely disgusting. All right, let's get into the rest of the show. This segment is brought to you by Armani luminous silk concealer. Ria
A very, very special guest.
Fran
Super exciting.
Ria
We are joined by co hosts of Dancing with the Stars, Julianne Hough. Thank you so much for joining us. We're super excited. We've wanted you on the show for a long time, and we cannot wait to discuss everything. Dancing with the Stars and you. So thanks for joining us.
Julianne Hough
Thank you. I'm pumped to be here. I love both of you so much, and I can't wait. Like, I'm on this couch.
Fran
I know with Beulah, you can't see Dobby, but he's on the other side, too.
Julianne Hough
Weirdly, I actually dressed like Dobby for Halloween one year.
Fran
That's a fun.
Ria
That's a great costume.
Julianne Hough
I was on my way to Hawaii to meet my friends, and I was like, I have nothing to wear. Give me one sock. And I had, like, a. Like, a little calf tan or whatever.
Fran
I was, like, done. Perfect.
Ria
It's about that time where you got to start thinking of what you're gonna be for Halloween.
Julianne Hough
I know.
Fran
That is so true.
Julianne Hough
It's true.
Fran
Oh, I'm not ready for that yet. Not ready for that yet. But what I am ready for is a new season of Dancing with the Stars. Massive announcement. We have the full cast reveal. Maybe one of the best casts we have had in a while. Like, I know it just keeps getting.
Julianne Hough
Better and better, but I know every year we're like, it's the best cast we've ever had. But truly this year, I. I really think it is. I think that the. The dynamic of. And variety and versatility of all of the people are incredible. But also, like, I'm rooting for, like, well, I am the host, so I'm Switzerland. I root for everyone. But at the same time, I can really see, like, a bunch of frontrunners. It's not just, like, one or two. You're like, oh, my gosh. It literally could be anybody's at this point.
Fran
And it's a lot of, like, sweethearts. You know, sometimes with the cast, you get maybe some polarizing people that stir the pot a little bit. But you go down the line of this, you're like, oh, just sweetheart. Sweetheart. After sweetheart.
Julianne Hough
It's true. There was one person that was really close to making it that would have been very polarizing.
Ria
Can you tease us a little more.
Julianne Hough
You know, once we're off?
Fran
Yeah, you know, that's.
Ria
Everyone's got me jealous of that, but.
Fran
Everyone gets so excited for this cast. What was the name that really popped to you the most?
Julianne Hough
Honestly, I think the fact that, like, Alex was announced first or not first, but Robert was. But. But that was amazing because I feel like the way that Dancing with the Stars in the last few years has shaped up is become this whole lore and, like, TikTok and, like, the social media personalities. And, like, I just was like, oh, wow, they're really, like, Dancing with Stars is leaning in, and we're. We're about to, like, have this new generation of people coming and watching the show. So I felt like, just as, like, for the show, I feel like Alex is such a great person to bring new audience members to the show, but also, like, I mean, Dylan is gonna be great. Everybody loves him. He was so great on Traitors. I feel like everybody's, like, rooting for him. I mean, we've got Lauren. I feel like the. The Mormon Housewives. Like, I think that it is gonna get really competitive with those two because they're both great dancers.
Fran
Yeah.
Julianne Hough
And so, I don't know. I just think it's. It's great.
Ria
There are so many added elements to this. Like, like you said about Alex Earl being in it.
Julianne Hough
Yeah.
Ria
We're already following along with her on TikTok. Her talking about going to rehearsals and practices more so than we've seen years prior. You guys, Even though last year kind.
Julianne Hough
Of ramped up 20 years that this show has been on and, you know, 34 seasons, nobody has ever talked about the show as consistently when the season's not even going as it has this last year. Like, everybody is so interested in it. And, like, I'm finding out things on TikTok that I didn't even know were happening. So it's pretty great.
Ria
Right? And the drama, too, because you saw a lot of drama, you know, off camera behind the scenes last year with the people that were on the show. And then this time you mentioned the Mormon wives.
Julianne Hough
Yeah.
Ria
You know. You know that those two are gonna be fighting, and it's gonna be on the next season of Secret Wives, and then we're gonna still be talking about Dancing with the Stars.
Julianne Hough
It's true. It's true.
Fran
It really is. And it's so fun to get to see all the behind the scenes. Like you said, watching, like, Alex's videos of I'm getting ready for practice and all these things. It is, like, a totally new feel. How do you feel about, like. Cause you've been there from the beginning, what it's like now with such A shift to, like, this very social media forward show when it really. Obviously, I mean, social media didn't exist, but, you know.
Julianne Hough
Yeah, I mean, I feel like it's. It's that thing where you're like, I'm either gonna join it or I'm gonna be left behind. And I think when, like, the first season that I came back as a host, I was like, oh, my gosh, this is so. This is like another show. It almost feels like we're doing two separate shows at the same time. And it felt like a lot. And then after, like, it started becoming more normal. Then we're like, oh, no, this is what people want to see. Back when I was on the show as a dancer, we had two shows a week. And so there was much more, like, the confessionals room where we would, like, share more. The packages that we would have were much longer, and you would show more of the rehearsal. And we do these, like, fun packages. So I think it. What it's doing is what we used to do on the show, but it's. It's on personal accounts, you know, and so now you're getting, like, just again, more widespread and you're keeping up with the times. I think that's the biggest thing is, like, people who are not invested in it are just gonna get like, yeah, right.
Ria
It's like almost like the saying, you can't beat them, join them.
Julianne Hough
Yeah.
Ria
It's like, well, you know what? We gotta lean into exactly what's going on now, what people are into now.
Julianne Hough
And it is social media and find your. Like, not just do it because you want to stay relevant. Like, you have to do it in an authentic way. So, like, what is my. Why am I doing this? Not because I have to, but because I, like, I'm gonna find joy out of it.
Fran
And it does feel like the cast members now are coming on to pull from another. Like, coming on for all the right reasons. Like, they're like, you know, they want to be on Dancing with the Stars.
Julianne Hough
Oh, yeah.
Fran
It's not like it means more.
Julianne Hough
It does.
Fran
It seems now, which is. Which is really fun.
Julianne Hough
I'm getting DMs from, like, random celebrities being like, can you get me on the show? I'm like, I can't. But, like, I love that you want to do the show.
Ria
Yeah.
Julianne Hough
You know, like, again, like, not to talk badly at all, but, like, in past years, it was always sort of like, oh, the celebrities that we don't really know who they are, but they're making a comeback, you know, and like, this time around, it's like, people are literally begging to be on the show.
Fran
Exactly. Like, I mean, it's when you get people like, you know, Alex Earl, who is her, is talked about so much. When you hear a young voice being like, no, no, no. I'm dying to go on Dancing with the Stars, like, that obviously changes the game for. For the show. TikToks, we've been getting some teases from some of the cast, so it has been fun seeing the full list, because I know people have had their suspicions of who's going to do it. Like, hilarious. Baldwin is on this cast.
Julianne Hough
Yes.
Fran
And, you know, she's been posting all these videos of her dad.
Julianne Hough
Like, I'm not. I'm not kidding. Like, that was a campaign, and she won. Like, she. She was doing that all separately. She was not a part of the show until later. Like, she was campaigning, and she got on. Like, that's awesome.
Fran
I really advise her to, like, she, like, you know what? I'm Alec, stand right here. I'm gonna dance around you.
Ria
I love it.
Fran
And it worked out. It worked out perfectly.
Julianne Hough
I'm really excited for them because I. I did Rock of Ages with Alec, and, like, just. He's so sweet and so fun, and, like, I'm sure he's gonna be in the audience and everything. And so I'm like, oh, reunion. That'll be good. Know, she used to dance as well. She dated Eugene Katzeman, who was like, a proper, like, Latin dancer who lives here in New York. And so, like, it's. It's fun.
Fran
Like, it's gonna be so interesting.
Julianne Hough
All the, like, the conversations people are gonna have behind the scenes are gonna be great because they're already having conversations, and I get to just listen to all of it.
Ria
Right. As a. As a host now, do you ever miss being a dancer on the show, or are you, like, you know what? I like watching from afar.
Julianne Hough
You know, I mean, look, I. Once a dancer, always a dancer. I got to, like, you know, bust a move last season, and that was amazing. And. But I think in this season of my life, I love watching other people shine. And so. And also, like, I don't have to be, you know, working seven days a week and, like, choreographing, teaching, being emotional support. Like, it's like, it's a. It is intense. And I have so much respect for the dancers and what they do, and I love that, you know, Alfonso and I get to, like, show up and root for them, you know, and almost like, mama, you know, energy instead yeah. So it's good. I love being a host and judging was really fun too. But similarly, like, we were always separated when we were judging. We weren't like involved with the cast. So this one, I'm like, oh, I'm like a part of it throughout the whole season. We get to know each other. I, you know, before I wasn't allowed to talk to anybody, so. Right.
Fran
So would you, would you say this version of your involvement in the show is kind of your favorite? Of what?
Julianne Hough
Of what you've done different seasons.
Fran
Yeah.
Julianne Hough
Right. Like in this season, this is my favorite. Obviously. When I was 18 and dancing, it was the greatest time of my life. It was very much like Riley arnold. I was 18 on the show and won my first two seasons. And it really was like an overnight thing. I was like, I just graduated from high school and I got on the show and it was like, Whoa, 20 million viewers were watching every week when people only watch TV and like social media didn't exist. And then watching her, her rise like that, I was like, wow, that was such a, that was such like a parallel moment. And I'm like, watching her blow up is just like, it was just, it was reminiscent almost of that. And I'm like, honestly, in like a weird way, not protective at all. Like, she's got her, she's great. She's doing just fine. But also like, oh, I, you know, like, I know that feeling. And going from like this to this overnight is. It's kind of a weird whiplash moment.
Fran
Definitely.
Julianne Hough
Yeah.
Fran
What's it like for, you know, like you said similar ages, especially when you, you know, you started and now Riley and Riley we've really only seen with like, younger partners. Now she does have Scott from Pentatonix, which is different from them, what we've seen from her. What was your experience like, you know, dancing with guys that maybe were a little bit older than you and that whole, you know, experience?
Julianne Hough
Well, so my first partner was Apollo Ono, so we were kind of like similar age. We were like the cute, the cute little couple, you know. And then I did dance with a, you know, Elio Castronovez, which he was a little bit older but still had like young energy. My third partner was Adam Carolla, and that was very different. I was like a 19 year old at the time and he was like this older man who is very like, you know, a comedic. But I think they are going to be such a great match because, I mean, his energy is so infectious. I can't wait to watch what they do. Too, because they're just. Yeah, they're just like these gorgeous, bubbly, infectious, like, magnetizing people. And they're gonna play. They're gonna have fun.
Ria
Right? And I think more than ever right now, we're seeing a lot of people who are voicing their opinion on who should be paired up with who. Yeah, it's like, I think people are happy that Riley is paired up with somebody new. A little different than past seasons. But, I mean, the conversation surrounding who is paired up with you.
Julianne Hough
Oh, yeah.
Ria
Behind the scenes, are you nervous for people to see that before it comes out? Because you're like, ooh, I don't know if people are gonna be happy about this one.
Julianne Hough
I don't know. I think there was a lot of, like, rumors that, like, Robert and Riley were gonna be together. I think that they did a great job at casting Scott and Riley and Whitney and Robert, I think. I don't know. I just. I feel like that great job casting, like, obviously would have been great the other way as well, but maybe a little bit more on the nose and, like, these two young birds. But I. But I'm like, I love. I love how the casting is paired.
Fran
Right now when the cast shows up and the stars go, are they really. You know, we always see the videos of them opening the door and they're, oh, my God, this is who I wanted to. Are they really finding that out at that time?
Julianne Hough
I mean, I think so. They might, like, find out right beforehand. I know that some of the dancers, like, look, it's been 20 years, so, like, there's ways and there's relationships now where you're like, can you just, like, give me a little hint? You know? But I think. I think there is. I don't think that the celebrities know who their partner is for sure. Sometimes I think the dancers find out a little bit beforehand or prep for.
Fran
Them to go into it.
Julianne Hough
Yeah, I think so.
Fran
Prepare themselves or what kind of teacher they have to be.
Julianne Hough
Yeah, exactly. One of. One of the things that was funny, though, I don't know if it was Daniella. We were chatting, and she's like, can we all decide that we're gonna wear normal clothes on the first meeting instead of, like, some of us are, like, in normal clothes. And then the celebrities come in in, like, gym shorts and, you know, bad socks and stuff, and, like, can we just all, like. So that was, like, a funny, like, behind the scenes moment where, like, nobody's telling us what we're actually supposed to be doing. This first meeting. We're not Dancing. We're just meeting, and Daniela's like, I want to look cute.
Ria
I don't want to, you know.
Julianne Hough
And then my partner shows up in gym shorts, like, come on. Right?
Fran
You're like, let's be. Let's match a little bit.
Julianne Hough
Yeah, exactly. So those are, like, first meeting things that you're like, you would never think of that, but. Yeah, but I'm so excited. I think this season also, like, this is my third season hosting. And so the first season I'm, like, a little bit nervous. Second season, I, like, dropped in a little bit more. This season I'm like, oh, it feels like home again, and I'll fly. Alfonso and I just. We love each other, so that'll be really fun too.
Fran
I was gonna ask what the, you know, chemistry has been like for you two working together, and how do you feel like you now, like you said, going into a third season, the two of you are gonna hit your stride. I mean, love all the dance promos that you guys get to do together are so fun.
Julianne Hough
Well, I think the best part is that, like, him and his wife Angela, like, we speak the same language outside of the show too. So, like, they are very big in, like, personal development and, like, you know, eating healthy and, like, you know, more like mystical spirituality and stuff. So, like, we just, like, totally vibe in that sense. So. Yeah, so, like, when we're. When we're on set, we're just like. We're just like, we got. We're on the same page.
Ria
And.
Julianne Hough
Yeah, so it's. It's fun. And then again, like, I mean, we've. We've been on the show for so many years that the same camera operators, the lighting designers, costume designers, I mean, they've been my family since I was 18 years old. And, like, we've grown up together. And I don't know any other show that has been on this long that can say, like, I'm obsessed with my family. And, like, you know, there's always a few people in the family where you're like, you know what? Sometimes you don't get to pick them, but they're a part of the family.
Fran
That's Uncle Joe. We just deal with them.
Julianne Hough
But it really is. It's such a good group of people. And, yeah, it's the best.
Ria
And you've been doing it, like you said, since 18. You've been a part of this big family. Is there any moment that stands out to you as your all time favorite Dancing with the Stars moment?
Julianne Hough
Oh, my gosh. All time favorite.
Ria
You could Pick one from hosting, one from dancing.
Julianne Hough
Okay, so from hosting, I would say, like, I loved my. My man in finance dance that I got to do last season. That was like, super fun and epic. And the funny story about that is that because this new generation is watching the show, they were like, I didn't even know she danced, you know? And my brother.
Fran
That's so crazy.
Julianne Hough
Yeah. And my brother was so cute. He like, repost. And she's like, oh, don't. You know, don't get it wrong. Like, this is the OG Bitch.
Ria
You know, like, people need to be reminded. Well, that was like when you interviewed Timothee Chalamet on the carpet, and you.
Julianne Hough
Were the most cringe moment of my life.
Ria
No, but you were asking about his dance moves.
Julianne Hough
He was like, what?
Ria
And Timothee Chalamet was like, what? And then people were like, what a random question. And I saw people going nuts on TikTok being like, she is a dancer. It is the most fitting question. I'm like, exactly.
Julianne Hough
Oh, my gosh. That. Truly. I was like, that was horrible.
Fran
But.
Julianne Hough
But you know what? Like, whatever. It was something that people talked about. And I always say, like, you know what? Be cringe. Like you're. You're at least putting yourself out there, like, whatever.
Ria
Not even cringy. You're a dancer.
Fran
It actually made a lot of sense.
Julianne Hough
It was just. It is.
Fran
There we are dealing with this younger generation that just literally only see things off social media and TikTok. It's like. Like, when we watch that. When we would watch Love island, people be like, this host is great. And we're like, people are going back to watch Vanderpump. They were like, they don't know who she is. Which is crazy to us because it's like, well, what. How could that. How could that be the case?
Ria
And also, everything is cringe to people now. Like, they'll be like, cringe, cringe. You're like, there's.
Fran
Yeah, yeah.
Ria
It's not.
Fran
It's not at all. What about f. I mean, winning, obviously, I'm sure is up there for.
Julianne Hough
But as a pro, so as a pro. Oh, my favorite moment. I actually, it was my. I like to call. It was like my coming out party like, moment. It was when I did the samba with Apollo Ohno and I was wearing this tiger outfit that was like this little, like, body suit, and I had big hair and it was the. We got our first tens and it was epic. It was really great. So that was like my favorite moment of that. And then judging. I Don't know. I think just honestly, to get sentimental, like, just sitting next to Len and like Carrie Ann and Bruno and like, I've known Len since I was 10 years old and grew up dancing for him and being judged by him taking lessons. And so it was just cool as like a full circle moment of this is where I started. And I'm sitting next to you as, you know, like equals in the sense that we're, you know. Yeah. A part of this show that is bringing ballroom dancing to the world in a commercial, public way. That was so niche and was like such a weird hobby to do as a kid. And so, yeah, it was just. It was. That was probably my coolest moment was just like. And also like being backstage with Bruno and his tighty whities, smoking a cigarette and like, like that was my life too, right?
Ria
Oh, my God. Amazing.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
Do you feel with hosting, I mean, with judging, there comes a little bit more of judging from the outside as well towards being a judge. Because we see it now with your brother Derek, you know, it can. It can come with criticism, being a judge, because sometimes people are unhappy with the criticism you give.
Julianne Hough
Yes. No, that's. That's a huge thing because at the end of the day too, like, you. You wanna. It's like anything, you wanna give the right feedback. You don't wanna over pump somebody up. You wanna actually give them the score that is deserving, give them the correction and then see if they can grow from that. And so, you know, you don't want to over inflate people, but yet it's a show. And we were having this conversation the other day because one of our other choreographer friends was judging this competition and usually it's all like, you know, nobody sees the marks or whatever. And this one was like televised and on screen and she's like, I get it. I absolutely get it. You, like, you write a five and then all of a sudden you're like, I'll write a seven. Because you're like, oh, my gosh. The pressure to, like, make sure everybody's happy. But I think the. The key is, like, you have to just be honest. And if you're gonna get criticism, you're gonna get criticism. But integrity always wins. And I think with people actually having the controversy, it does give something, you know, to talk about. And so, yeah, whatever.
Ria
Absolutely. It brings people into the conversation.
Julianne Hough
Exactly. Because disagreeing if everybody's doing the same.
Ria
Disagreeing is great. When you're watching, watching tv because it makes you watch even more.
Julianne Hough
Well, it's like, debates. It's like you. The reason why debates are so fun to watch is because you have polarizing views and you get to figure out where you stand in it.
Ria
You're yelling at the tv. Exactly.
Julianne Hough
Exactly.
Fran
Was there ever, like, an extra added toughness for you? And I'm sure maybe, like, it goes for Derek as well. Now, where you are now sitting at the judges table and these pros are all like, you're your peers and friends. And you're like. And they're like, okay, let's hear. What do you have to say?
Julianne Hough
Well, that was what was kind of funny when I was judging, because I was judging my brother at the time, and everybody's like, ah, she's gonna be like, so nice on, you know, on him. I was like, whatever. I was harder on him because I didn't want there to be, like, favoritism. But I think the big thing is you're not really judging the pro. You are looking at the celebrity and how they can improve. Sometimes it's hard, though, when you're like, man, like, you know, the pro, you did not highlight, you know, your partner well, or you just sat for 30 seconds and didn't let them dance. And now we're gonna have to mark them because of your decision like that. That's sometimes hard. And so, yeah, so sometimes it gets a little tricky with, like, the pros and stuff. But most of the time, it's truly just about judging the celebrity.
Ria
Right. And you said that when you're a judge, you know, you're kind of away from the cast and everybody else because, you know, you're the judge.
Julianne Hough
Totally.
Ria
What's it like for you during the season with Derek? Because, you know, he's judge, you're the host. You may know a little bit more. What's that?
Julianne Hough
Like, that's true. Like, I don't know. Like. Cause they have the trailers outside. Like, Alfonso and I are inside, and then the cast are on the other side. So it's like everybody's kind of separated. But Alfonso and I, we show up the day before, we're hanging out during camera blocking. We're engaging with them. But, yeah, like, I know some of the secrets of being a judge. And so, like, we get to kind of, like, chat through certain things that even Alfonso doesn't know because he hasn't been in that seat.
Ria
Yeah.
Julianne Hough
So it's kind of fun. I feel like I have all the secrets.
Fran
Yes, you are the key holder of.
Ria
Dancing with the Stars.
Fran
Has it been key for you to, like, have your brother along this ride with you and. And whether it's as pros together, judges, pros, hosts, judge. It's like you guys have done so many different iterations of it, but always have stayed within that, you know, Dancing with the Stars family.
Julianne Hough
Yeah, it's so funny. Our first thing that we ever did with, like, Dancing with the Stars was we were both on the live tour before I was ever on the show. And I was on the show a season before he was on. So we were on this tour and Carrie Ann actually was the one that choreographed everything. And she got us to do a rumba together. You guys, that is the dance of love.
Fran
Right, right, right.
Julianne Hough
That my brother and I had to dance together. And so our names in the program were Derek and Julianne Hough. So everybody thought we were married and we were doing this rumba and it's like, you know, anyway, when people found out we were brother and sister, I remember specifically there was one venue where we were dancing and we just heard, that's just raw.
Ria
Oh, my God.
Julianne Hough
That was like our first. And then like, Carrie Ann to this day, she's like, I'm sorry I made you guys dance the rumba. But anyway, so that's Carrie Ann.
Fran
Thanks.
Ria
We got this label, now we're like.
Julianne Hough
Game of Thrones, but we. But that was kind of like our first experience. And then if you watch our careers, we've been kind of like parallel pathing it and it was a joke. We did a tour together where we had this like, sibling rivalry moment where it was like, I won two times on Dance with the Stars. Well, I won six. And then I was like, well, I start in Grease live. Well, I start in Hairspray live. Well, I started judging. Well, I started judging. And I'm like, what are you gonna do now? Host? And now he's the host of Extra so.
Fran
But kind of following indoors.
Julianne Hough
Yes, baby girl.
Ria
Exactly.
Julianne Hough
But I think, you know, jokes aside, it's really cool that we get to do similar things in our own way. We're definitely unique. We share, you know, we're cut from the same cloth, so there's a lot of similar energy. But like, like, we're very different. And yeah, it's so funny. My brother is a lot more like Julianne, like, don't show your belly. And like, I'm like, derek, zip it. Like, okay, dad. You know, like, we have like those moments, but he's just like, I just don't want, like, you know, people saying anything about you. I was like, I don't care. I literally do not care.
Ria
It's like, I've been doing this since I'm 18.
Julianne Hough
Yeah. And so like, he's cute, he's very protective, and I'm like a little bit of a wrecking ball for him. So it's, it's fun, makes it exciting.
Fran
And he's gonna be a dad.
Caller
I know.
Fran
How excited are you excited for him and Haley?
Julianne Hough
Honestly, like, they sent me an image basically of like a wax melting baby.
Fran
Because, you know, like, what am I looking at?
Ria
Like, oh, yeah, that's coming from you guys.
Julianne Hough
But it was like, honestly the cutest. I mean, the nose looks like his nose, the little lips look like her lips. And like, it's like, oh my gosh, this baby. I can't wait to see what they look like. And yeah, I, I've been an aunt since I was 11, so I'm not like, new to this.
Fran
Yes.
Julianne Hough
But as an adult, being in a different stage of life and having a newborn baby, that's my brother who I'm so close with. I mean, they're gonna get really annoyed with me, like, can I come over?
Ria
Oh my God, Yeah.
Julianne Hough
But Haley did FaceTime me the other day and she's like, hey, you know, like, you're so good at design and stuff like that. Would you want to help me design the baby room? And I was like, yes, I would love that.
Ria
Absolutely.
Julianne Hough
I know. I was like, I feel like you're proposing to me right now. But yes, I will absolutely help.
Ria
That is so exciting. Yeah. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you. You mentioned, you know, the different paths and how much dance has opened up so many different avenues for you. Tv, film, Broadway. What has been the most shocking thing that you've done?
Julianne Hough
You think, oh my gosh. Well, it's kind of crazy. Cause I mean, I haven't really told this story because I just kind of came to it the other day. I've actually achieved all of my siblings dreams. My oldest sister wanted to be on Broadway. My second sister wanted to be a country star. My third sister, she wanted to be an actress. And then Derek was obviously a ballroom dancer. And I was like, oh, wow. Like I, I think I, like they were all like, you know, the model of what was possible. And I just wanted to follow in their footsteps or, you know, like, we could talk trauma, but like, I just want to, I just want to be included.
Fran
And it was cool because they liked it.
Julianne Hough
Yeah, exactly, exactly. And so what's interesting is like, I've done so many things in my career and I think, you know, I'm 37 now, and I'm like, okay, here's all the titles that I've done. I've been a dancer, actor, singer, host, author, entrepreneur. But those are all things that I do. And I think now I'm sort of like, well, who am I without all the things that I do? And what I realized is, like, when I was younger and I was like, seven, I was like, I just wanted to try everything. I just wanted to be a student. And I love anything that's athletic and physical, that's through the body. So, like, I just started surfing and, like, I love rock climbing and, like, anything that's, like, a bit of a challenge. So. Not. I didn't answer your question at all. But, like. But, like, as far as the. Like, I don't know what I like more because I think I'm sort of that, like, Jack of all Trades, master of none kind of thing. But, like. But I think the mastery is. What is the end of that line? I don't know. We always forget that line. But it's like. But the mastery is that you can do it a little. Whatever.
Ria
Right.
Julianne Hough
So I think, like, I don't know, it just kind of depends on what mood I'm in.
Ria
Right. Like, at different times, you may love this and the next one. You love that. Exactly.
Julianne Hough
And, like, I tend to immerse myself fully into something, and then I'm like, cool. I felt like I completed that, and now I want to go try something new.
Fran
Is there anything that you've done, you know, like you said, with music, tv, film, Broadway? Is there anything that you would like to go back to?
Julianne Hough
I mean, all of it. Like, I. You know, I want to continue doing all of the things that I cycles through.
Ria
Yeah.
Julianne Hough
That I love. I think it's a different. A different. Why now? You know, I think, like, before it was much more like, how good can I be at it? Versus, like, is this really coming from me? And, like, my fulfillment of it? And so, like, I would love to do music again in a different way. I would love to pick roles that, you know, fulfill me in a different, more challenging way versus, kind of, I would do a lot of, like, the same roles in films that would be sort of like the girl running away from something terrible in her life and then finding love. That was.
Ria
She dances.
Fran
Yeah.
Julianne Hough
And then she dances and sings Story by Nicole Sparks.
Ria
Yeah.
Julianne Hough
And I was like, oh, is that my life? So I'm like, maybe I could play some characters versus just my life. Yeah.
Fran
That's also so fair. Well, we Loved watching all that, too. And we love watching you on Dancing with the Stars. I think you and Alfonso really just do such an amazing job with the show. Now we do have a one last question brought to you by Armani Beauty. We have this beautiful gift bag for you to take home with you. The one thing that we didn't touch on that I do want to ask you about about this new season is we do have a new pro.
Julianne Hough
Yes.
Fran
Which, you know, changes it up a bit. We're not, like, we're very comfortable with our pros. Throw in a new one. We're like, what's going on with this?
Julianne Hough
Totally.
Fran
Who is this new pro? What can you tell us about him? Because we've seen everyone on Social freaking.
Julianne Hough
Out about him, of course. Okay, so Jan, and he is an incredible dancer. Obviously, most people know him from Taylor Swift because he was one of her dancers on her ERAS tour and definitely made a splash.
Fran
Yes.
Julianne Hough
He also was, you know, at the Oscars and danced with Margaret Qualley for that big number. And he's just. He's just a beautiful dancer. I think what's going to be really interesting and is he's such a versatile dancer. He's gonna bring so much. Obviously, Ballerman Latin is, like, the main focus here, but he's an incredible choreographer in contemporary, and so to see his new energy and flavor. By the way, back in the day when we started Dancing with the Stars, the pros were so competitive with each other. It was another era. Nobody had kids. Everybody was going out and partying. Like, it was so intense. And, like, the. The competitiveness between the pros was, like, no joke. So now I'm like, I wonder what this dynamic is gonna bring in because, you know, like, people are gonna get competitive again. And there's. Now that, like, all of the pros have had kids and stuff, there's like, some new energy coming up of these, like, younger, you know, but there's no.
Fran
They still know each other. Even the youngest know each other dancing growing up. There's. There's married couples. There's couples dance. You know, it's so many. The dynamic is so different.
Julianne Hough
But I. But it's funny. Like, not in a negative way, but I do feel a sense of competitive, like, charge come back. Because, you know, Mark Ballas is back, and he is wildly competitive and not against people. It's more of, like, an internal competitiveness. But. But yeah, like, he's wildly competitive. And when you start feeling that in the air versus, like, let's have everybody be successful, you Know, it's like everybody wants everybody to win, but everybod. Everybody wants to win.
Ria
Right.
Julianne Hough
Like that again, that's the kind of energy that you want to feel. And, like, totally.
Ria
And you can feel it watching it. And, you know, they'll be happy for each other, but they want to beat them.
Julianne Hough
Yeah. And I think that that's okay.
Ria
Yes. That's what it should be about. Yeah, exactly. Friendly competition.
Fran
Sometimes everyone wants to win.
Ria
Yeah, exactly.
Fran
It's not shameful to say you want to win.
Julianne Hough
No, no.
Ria
You should want to be competitive.
Fran
Exactly. Julian, thank you so much for joining us here. So great. We can't wait for this new season of Dancing with the Stars to come out. 16th we went two years ago, and.
Ria
We want to go back.
Fran
It was your first season.
Julianne Hough
Okay.
Fran
And we went. Now I forget what night it was, but we had.
Ria
It was the night. It was the week after Disney.
Julianne Hough
Okay. Week after Disney. No clue.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
No, I just remember because we were upset about missing.
Fran
No, just because.
Julianne Hough
Yeah.
Fran
And then last season, we were invited to go Disney night. We couldn't go. Yeah, I'm very upset about that. So maybe this year, Disney.
Ria
Maybe this year.
Fran
Yeah, Exactly.
Julianne Hough
Well, please, please come visit.
Fran
I would love. We would love to. Thank you. Thank you so much.
Julianne Hough
Thank you.
Fran

All right, let's get into the Popcorner, where we're going to take your Voicemail to how it takes your opinions, Noah. Let's hear the first one.
Caller
Hi. So mine's a semi turn pretty opinion. And I know. Fran, don't make the face. You gotta listen. Open ears. Okay, so Conrad's hero complex actually has ruined everyone's life. Not a hero complex. It's like a selfish complex. Because first off, his dad's cheating. He doesn't tell anyone. So Jer then idolizes his dad unknowingly. Then when his mom dies, he holds his dad closer. He's got just him and his brother, and his brother is very distant. So Conrad didn't protect his brother. He led him straight into his dad's arms. Number two, he doesn't tell anybody about his mom's cancer. And at the end of the season one, Conrad says Jer is the one who convinced his mom to get treatment. Had Conrad told them early on, maybe his mom would have gotten treatment earlier and wouldn't have died. So Conrad.
Fran
Holy moly.
Caller
And he didn't tell Belly that he loved her. So he basically let Jared pursue her and then stole her back, even though he didn't know anyone could have dated her and he would have been stealing them back. And last, he didn't tell anybody about. About selling the house. And guess who ends up helping Laurel. Conrad was completely useless in that situation. So he thinks that he's keeping secrets to help people, but he's actually complete opposite. And also him, like, not telling. You know, him telling Belly that Jared cheated was the only time he came clean on something, and it backfires. So. And that was the only selfish. That was a selfish act. So, you know, there's nothing worse than withholding information that's just as bad as cheating. So that's what Jer meant when he said you treated Belly like trash. So that was a lot. But, you know, I just think that, you know, they're both Jer and Conrad, both cheaters, and Jer learned it from Conrad, not his dad, because Garrett never knew about.
Ria
Well, they can't say withholding the information about Susanna dying is the same.
Caller
Yep, that's my hot take. Love you guys.
Ria
Love you, too.
Fran
Yeah. No, no, no.
Ria
We can't say that Conrad withholding information about Susanna dying and things about the house and things of that nature are the same as cheating.
Fran
No, they're not.
Ria
They're not the same thing.
Fran
They're. They're definitely not the same thing.
Ria
They're not the same thing.
Fran
I will say in the fact that, like, I think it was maybe what the third thing she said About Conrad, you know, not telling Belly he loved her and basically driving her into Jeremiah. Like, that, I think is pretty valid. That's the emotional unavailability. That's like him. He's also like a teenager at these points. Like, granted, now he is in the season that we're watching, you know, post college, wanting to be a doctor. But, like, those earlier seasons, like, season one, he is. They're all really young. And I think that especially when his mom was going through the treatment, like. And especially we. We hear those last. Like, Susanna telling him to always look out for Jeremiah and all these things. Like, I just think as a kid, it's a lot of pressure. And then you interpret that as, like, you have to protect him. And he just has a different definition of, like, protecting him. It's like, oh, he. Conrad's pissed that he has to know this stuff about his dad, but why does Jeremiah also have to have a bad relationship with him? So it is a bit of a hero complex. I do understand that, but I don't think the way she was framing it, I felt more that it came from a malicious place, and I don't think it really did. I think he was just so worked up in his own mind of, like. Like, now my mom's dead, and her dying wish was for me to protect Jeremiah and, like. And I don't want to ruin that relationship and all these things. And, like, being really torn between his feelings for Belly and, like, protecting Jeremiah. He made some mistakes, for sure, but there were times when I think he grew up as, like, oh, Conrad's perfect. Conrad's perfect. Conrad's perfect. And when you do have that pressure as a kid growing up, you do end up lying about that things and. And withholding the truth because you think, like, everybody has this perfect image of me. I can't ruin that. So. All right, that's my very deep analysis of a fictional show. You know, that's what we're here for. At the same time, it's like, I. I do appreciate the conversation about it, but sometimes I'm like, we need to, you know, rein it in a little bit, because it is. You know, it's not that deep sometimes.
Ria
Sometimes it's just the fun of, hey, we want Belly and Conrad to be together. Cause it's, you know, it's a.
Fran
For sure. It's just a story we want to, like, It's a story I want to happen.
Ria
It's just fictional.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
Fictional fun.
Fran
And I do think, you know, and he has grown in this season. Like, he Got fired. That's probably something that he would have never actually shared with his dad in previous years, but he did tell him that that's what happened. So there are moments where it's like he is trying to open up more.
Ria
A lot of it also, I think, stems from, like, when you watch the show, you're rooting for Belly and Conrad, or a lot of us are, because you know that Belly wants to be with Conrad.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
So you know what I mean? And sometimes it's not even just about the brothers or their qualities or the things about them. It's like, well, Belly really wants. You could tell she really likes Conrad, so we root for her to be with Conrad.
Fran
Yeah. And the first love trope is not something we're being introduced to for the first time. Like, there's so many things where it's like, so many shows or movies that you watch where you get so attached to, like, the first love. And the first love is they go and they date other people, but it's not the same. And then they reunite with their first love, and you're like, yes. Like, that's what you're rooting for, you know, so.
Ria
All right, moving on.
Fran
Yep.
Caller
Hi. Ria, Fran, Noah, and Olive. This is Olivia from Chicago. My hot take is that Justin and Haley are the new Victoria and David Beckham. And I could see them developing their family really similarly. And just the way that the press follows them and David and Justin's hair.
Fran
All of it. And the fact that David and Victoria's kids all kind of look like Justin Bieber.
Ria
Yeah. I must say that. That I could see it. I think David Beckham is quite different from Justin Bieber.
Fran
Fair. I think, solely from, like, the fact that they have, like, five kids and. Or four kids. How many do they have? 5. Brooklyn Romeo.
Ria
4. Three boys and a girl.
Fran
Yeah. Yeah. That they could just, like, have a similar family dynamic.
Ria
Yeah.
Fran
You know, as the breakdown of, like, having more kids.
Ria
Right. And kind of just be, like, a super cool couple. Yeah. With a lot of tabloids following them.
Fran
I mean, Haley and Victoria, I think, do have a lot of similarities in just, like, trend setting.
Ria
For sure.
Fran
Blazing a trail.
Ria
Yes.
Fran
Being coming up with products and ideas that, like, everybody wants.
Ria
I could see that for sure.
Fran
New looks, new styles, new haircuts, all those things.
Ria
Totally.
Fran
You know.
Ria
Absolutely.
Fran
Yeah. Yeah. But, yeah, I think that's. I mean, David and. And Justin, not too much. Not too similar. Not too much, but I do get the comparison.
Ria
Yeah. Yeah, I can see it.
Caller
Hi, chick. This is Rhiann. From Connecticut. So my hot take is that Real Houses in Miami is by far the best show Bravo has right now. The characters on this show are insane. I have a few hot takes regarding it. I know Fran's been a hot watcher recently, but one that Julia adopted these two children and then just threw them on national television. Uses it almost as a point of why. Like, to emphasize that her other daughters don't talk to her anymore. Like, this is. I don't think this is how we should be going about this. Also, that Gertie literally survived cancer, but they're gonna do a girls trip for Alexia, who is getting divorced but isn't getting divorced and is still in love with her husband, and they're trying to stay together. Like, why does she get a trip but Gertie doesn't get a trip for surviving cancer. Well, let me know what you girls think, but this show is fantastic. Thank you.
Ria
Well, say you sold me.
Fran
I think you're so right. Miami is so good. These ladies are really out of their minds. This season for Julia has been insane because it really is. It's like she and Martina have been talking about adopting kids for a while. It's like, that's been part of Julia's storyline previous seasons. Like, her daughters are out of the house. It feels empty. She loved to have more kids and, like, doing that with Martina, and we didn't know if it would actually happen. And then, like, bam. This season, it's like, oh, they did it. They adopted two little boys. And then. And then she's like, yeah, so, you know, my daughters didn't really love the way we, like, went about this. And they're not really speaking to us right now, which makes me think that the communication there was not great, which is crazy, because once again, they were adopting children, which is wild that they wouldn't all be on the same page as a family. And then there's the Julia and Adriana drama. They were such good friends. And then now it's just like, Adriana thinks Julia's drinking the Kool Aid of being with the other girls and leaving her bestie behind. And Gertie, the girls, really. That is very true about, like, planning all these trips and doing all this. They're like, oh, Lexi is really going through a tough time. Like, let's do all this stuff for her. It's like, what about Gertie? You know? And then there's just great drama. It is. And sometimes it is silly and petty, but it does make for good reality tv most of the time. Time like, even like Lisa and Larsa going back and forth. It's like one second they're friends, the next they're yelling at each other about like Instagram, who follows who on Instagram? You know, it's just. It is funny. It is a great show. It is up there with Salt Lake. Salt Lake City, I think has been so good, but Miami really is so good and not talked about enough because it is absolutely ridiculous.
Ria
I gotta catch up. Yeah, it's behind. Yeah. Yeah.
Fran
It is really a fun, like, what do I want to turn? Like, I just want to watch a bunch of episodes and laugh because it's so silly.
Ria
Like, that's just absurd. Yeah.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
All right, let's do one more.
Caller
Hi, Rhea, Fran and Noah. Love the pod. It's the highlight of my Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I am currently in a One Tree Hill rewatch for about the fifth time. And I'm also watching the Samurai trip Turned pretty. And ever since the summer I turned pretty used Heartbeat. I've had this thought in my head just about how big the music of One Tree Hill is. And I feel like now with all the Taylor Swift songs, like music has been a big deal in the summer I turn pretty. So my question for you is if One Tree Hill was airing today, why songs or what like big hits do you think would have made it in the show? And are there any current songs that you would put with those big One Tree Hill moments? So like would you pick a different one for when Nathan and Haley kissed for the first time or that moment at the Saint championship? So two part question here. What big songs do you think would have made it in One Tree Hill back then? And then if you had to pick a more current song to replace one in a big One Tree Hill moment, what would it be? Curious to hear your answers. Have a great rest of your day. Bye.
Fran
That's a great question. I feel like the summer I interprety is. It's a unique thing because it is definitely more girly pop. You know, Olivia, Gracie, Taylor. And then of course they throw in like you know, U2 and Rolling Stones. Like it's like it is all over the place too. But they have access to everything, which is amazing. What was so awesome about One Tree Hill was like at the time that it was on because of the storylines of the show, it gave so many like newer bands these big moments.
Ria
Yeah.
Fran
Which makes me think that like if it were on now, I would hope it would still be in that same vibe. Like I don't think they'd be Using Olivia Rodrigo songs on One Tree Hill, I think they'd be using like more of an indie pop vibe or like, you know, like we were. They were having like Jack's Mannequin and all these more kind of pop punky emo.
Ria
They would have them perform exactly. In the Leaders.
Fran
Exactly. I mean Pete Wentz was like on the show, you know, so I feel like they would have. If it was on now would go down a different path of like. But then like ballads, you know, maybe Hozier, Royal, Otis. Like some of these more. Maybe even like. Like a Mount Joy vibe. Like something kind of more in there I think would match what goes on with maybe like that Alex Warren song.
Ria
Yeah.
Fran
Would be.
Ria
Yeah. The vibe of the show would be more like One Tree Hill via Than like.
Fran
Yeah, because I just think like it's.
Ria
Not as like I can hear a lot of Taylor Swift playing One Tree Hill because it's.
Fran
There's so many characters and so many different plot lines that it's not just like Summer Interprety is just more belly driven in my mind and like the music comes more from like these moments with her that are so fitting. But with One Tree Hill there's you know, Lucas and Peyton, Nathan and Haley, like even, you know, all these other characters that I feel like had musical moments that would make more sense with like. Like a not as pop vibe. I can't really think of anybody else I would 100% put in there. But that's.
Ria
I agree with that.
Fran
That's like the. My. That's where I would go through right now of like more ballady type things and more like indie alt rock.
Ria
Yeah, I think that's a solid answer.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
Because I'm even thinking about like throwing in, you know, like happier than ever and with Billie Eilish. But even still that seems like it would be a little too because you know, Peyton had her blog and you know I don't talk shit about you in the intro. Maybe like a little breakup with that. But also at the same time, I'm not really sure that fits the vibe.
Fran
Right. Like One Tree Hill had music in it that the scenes were so iconic the music became iconic and the summer intra pretty. A lot of it's like we all. We know the music already and it just fits so perfectly in the. In the seat scenes.
Ria
Yeah, that makes sense.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
Yeah, I like that answer. All right.
Fran
That was a fun one. I like. Yeah, that was really. It's a good comparison because it really is the show. The music makes such a big impact.
Ria
One that Will always sit with me is Gossip Girl loses her Virginia truck for the first time. Some 41. Yep. Like it that my mind immediately goes there to, like songs that you remember in that moment forever. So it is a great question. Yeah.
Fran
What's the one? What's the song that plays when. When he says he loves her? What's that song? Season of love by shiny toy Guns. That was one where I was like that. I listened to that song so much. It brings you right to that after that scene. And anytime I hear it now takes me right back to the street of, you know, Blair walking up on Chuck.
Ria
Exactly.
Fran
So it is true. It really.
Ria
Music is so important.
Fran
Absolutely is. And I think, like, we're so. We're so used to now also, like, with reality tv that they just use that, like, crazy music that's not all the time. Like songs that we know and things. And then when you get a good scripted show with, like, amazing music, it just makes it so much fun. Like how they get the budget for this. Yeah. Every time with the summer integrity. It's like, these songs are insane.
Noah
Is it true that I saw people saying this, but that because it's Amazon, they just have access to, like, that whole library and don't have to. I don't know how that works, but I don't know.
Fran
I could definitely understand someone assuming that it's like, oh, well, there's Amazon music that just, like, you can play music that's definitely.
Ria
I feel like, not the case, because.
Fran
Definitely not the case.
Ria
Why would Jenny Han have to write letters?
Noah
I mean, I'm sure that the artist still has to approve of him. Maybe it makes it a little easier.
Fran
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know. I don't know. They definitely have.
Ria
It definitely brings up every show. It does, like, a ton of notches, though.
Fran
Does it does.
Ria
All right, that wraps up the popcorn. And keep calling in with your hot takes. Your opinions or questions. We're answering them every Wednesday on the Popcorner. Abercrombie is an official fashion partner of the NFL. There's gears for all teams available. You can start with their Sunday crew oversized sweatshirt. They got the no bra camis. They got the dresses, the jackets. I talked about how I got a Buffalo Bills Abercrombie jacket that I can't wait to rock. Fran's gonna be rocking her eagle stuff.
Fran
She's got the eagle sweatshirt on sweatshi right now.
Ria
That's can't wait Thursday night. And don't forget, Abromi is known for their denim from their viral 90s inspired fits to their on trend statement jeans. I love Abrami denim. Always rocking it, always wearing it. Jeans, their skorts, their. Their shorts, everything. They have the best denim. So Abercrombie drops new arrivals every single week, and you do not want to miss out, especially the NFL collection. Be prepared because football is starting shop an app online or in stores. All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another game of Beatrie and Fran. This is game number 188, and we are joined by Kayla and Joe. They are a wonderful married couple who has been newlyweds who have been on the list since they've been engaged. So we opened up saying female Beyonce. They said, no, we're married now. That's how long this list goes out.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
But thank you so much for joining us.
Noah
Thank you.
Kayla
Very excited.
Fran
Amazing. I'm excited, too. I didn't get to play last week, so I'm excited to play. Um, so we'll get right into it. It's 15 questions. If you get it right, you get the point. If you get it wrong, the other team can steal the point. Whoever has the most points at the end wins. To determine who goes first, Noah's gonna give us a movie. We're gonna guess the round tomatoes critic score of that movie. Whoever's closest will go first, and we will alternate between teams. Everyone gets their own individual guess. Noah, what is today's movie?
Noah
Today's movie is the original Freaky Friday.
Ria
Ooh.
Fran
The original.
Ria
Yeah.
Noah
Is that. How many are there?
Fran
I believe there's one before you obviously mean. Okay.
Ria
Yeah, Yeah.
Noah
I don't even know that. I didn't even know there was one.
Ria
Before that knew what you meant by that.
Fran
Yeah.
Ria
All right, so one of you goes first.
Kayla
We'll say 78.
Ria
Solid guess.
Fran
Okay. Ria, you guess that direction.
Ria
I'm going to go 54.
Noah
64.
Fran
She says 78.
Ria
80.
Noah
That's the closest. 88.
Ria
Wow. High score. Well deserved.
Fran
Now I'm thinking, like, maybe was there. Sorry, just check for me. I may be wrong. Was there, like, an old Freaky Friday 1976. 1976. Thank you, Sarah.
Noah
Yeah.
Fran
Yeah.
Noah
Damn. I think I read that book, the Freaky Friday book. Maybe you did, but I thought that was just, like, I don't know. Okay, question number one to Re and Fran, shout out Ellen and Biz from Phil in the original Mean Girls movie. The original Mean Girls movie. Hope there's not.
