Two children in Y6 explain how they work in mixed ability groups with the support of other adults who come into the class and facilitate dialogue and interaction.

Two primary teachers explain their experience in the ChiPE research project. They were trained to implement Dialogic Literary Gatherings. Their 7 and 8 years' pupils read and discuss classic texts, in particular, The Odyssey, by Homer, 20.000 leagues under the sea, Jules Verne, among others.

Here is an example of a Dialogic Literary Gathering. First, children are discussing The Odyssey. Te session is chaired by one of the students, who facilitate children's taking turns, explaining their ideas, and building on each others' contributions. Through the whole session, they show highly sophisticated reasoning skills and concepts. Afterwards, children express their views and opinions about their experience in DLG.
