Rodriguez Cigars isn't a brand I'm all too familiar with, but when I saw the Series 84 Maduro Torpedo in my subscription box from CigarClub.com, I was pretty excited to smoke it.00:00 Intro01:15 Welcome03:14 First Impressions04:01 Cigar Specs05:52 Smoking07:36 Final Thoughts09:28 CigarScore Reveal09:48 OutroCheck out CigarClub: https://click.cigarscore.com/cslp-cigarclubAs soon as I freed the cigar from the cellophane, I could immediately smell something amazing. The aroma of the Rodriguez Series 84 Maduro Torpedo was of leather and rich tobacco, and I was immediately impressed. After cutting the torpedo end, the draw was perfect. The flavors of the cold draw were reminiscent of whiskey or bourbon. And, after torching the end, the smell of the smoke was quite fantastic. Other than the crack in the wrapper, this cigar had great construction. Regarding the flavors, I was also surprised at how well this cigar pairs with coffee, after every puff, I could really taste the chocolate notes in my Pinon Coffee. My main complaint about this cigar is that it didn't last long enough. You should be able to enjoy a cigar of this size for about 90 minutes, but this cigar only lasted for about 60. I wish I'd been able to smoke it for longer. The Oliva Serie V Double Toro is a cigar my father-in-law has been smoking for years and one that he swears by. And, since I frequently see them on Famous Smoke at 40% off, I bought box when I saw them on sale. Regarding the flavors, the Serie V is undeniably Nicaraguan, but the Ecuadorian Habano wrapper adds some spice. However, the spice I get from these cigars like cinnamon, not peppers, so it's a nice combination of sweetness and spice. Additionally, I get notes of leather and other earthy flavors.CigarScore Merch!: https://click.cigarscore.com/merchytUse coupon code CIGARSCORETV to get 15% OFF!Brand: OlivaLine: Serie VSize: 6 x 60Cut: Double V-CutLight: TorchPrice: $11.25Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Sun GrownBinder: NicaraguaFiller: NicaraguaSmoke Time: 105 minutesBuy This Cigar: https://click.cigarscore.com/fs-oliva-serievThrough the first third of the Oliva Serie V Double Toro, I had a tight draw that I didn't like. To fix it, I used my guillotine cutter to try and open up the smoke, but my efforts failed. It looks like I'm going to have to suffer through a tight-ish draw.Final Thoughts:While this wasn't as good as the Oliva Serie V Double Toros I've had in the past, this one was still pretty good. Other than the disappointing draw, this cigar lived up to expectations (and past experiences) in every way.The Serie V has rich flavors of cinnamon and other spices that are balanced with earthy flavors that make up a really nice smoke. The Punch Chop Suey is kind of an ugly cigar. Not much attention was paid to making this lancero look perfect, but hopefully, what the Chop Suey lacks in appearance (due to the inch and a half long shaggy foot), the cigar can make up for in flavor! After using the v-cut (a.k.a "notch cut") to open up the cigar, the draw was a smidge tight. On the cold draw, I could taste tobacco that seemed a little green and under-aged.However, after torching the end, I could taste leather and cedar. For the entire smoke, the draw was annoyingly tight, and, toward the end, the flavors toward became a little harsh. But, the stick I smoked had a decent burn.Although the Chop Suey isn't a bad cigar, it's not a great cigar either. The Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto should be a true, luxury smoke. After all, it's a blend that won some "Cigar of the Year" awards a few years ago.The version of this cigar with the natural wrapper (as opposed to the Melanio Maduro) has a Nicaraguan binder and filler underneath an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper that's marbled and quite attractive. After punching the end, the draw is impeccable. The flavors on the cold draw are grassy. It's worth noting that I've had some Oliva Serie V Melanios that had flavors of chocolate and caramel, while others have been mediocre in flavor. Consistency seems to be an issue with these cigars, and I plan on letting most of the ones I have left age for at least a couple of years.CigarScore Merch!: https://click.cigarscore.com/merchytUse coupon code CIGARSCORETV to get 15% OFF!Brand: OlivaLine: Serie V, Melanio NaturalSize: 5 x 52Cut: PunchLight: TorchPrice: $10.60Wrapper: Ecuadorian SumatraBinder: NicaraguaFiller: NicaraguaBuy This Cigar: https://click.cigarscore.com/fs-oliva-serievmelanioWhereas the first third of the cigar had flavors that were just okay, the middle third is where the robusto started to shine. I've had it on the Churchill vitola, but, I didn't have it today. However, the Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto that I reviewed today doesn't quite live up to what I know a Melanio can deliver. This robusto's draw was great, the flavors were good, and I had an even burn the entire time, but... I know it can do better. As soon as I took the Diesel Grind Toro out of the cellophane I'd been keeping it in for the last six months, my first thought was that the cigar smelled a little sweet and a little funky.Upon examining the cigar itself, there was a poorly cut cap and perhaps a water spot on the Nicaraguan Habano wrapper. However, despite having a funky smell to it, during the first fifteen minutes with the Diesel Grind Toro, I'm met with a great draw, a mostly even burn, and flavors that make me think the leaves could benefit from additional aging.CigarScore Merch!: https://click.cigarscore.com/merchytUse coupon code CIGARSCORETV to get 15% OFF!Brand: AJ FernandezLine: Diesel, GrindSize: 6 x 50Cut: GuillotineLight: TorchPrice: $6-7Wrapper: Nicaraguan HabanoBinder: NicaraguaFiller: NicaraguaSmoke Time: 75 minutesShop Diesel Cigars: https://click.cigarscore.com/fs-dieselIn the middle of the cigar, at around the 50-minute mark, the flavors were ok. When it comes to the "classics," what comes to mind? Cars? Movies? For me, "classics" are cigars like the CAO Gold Robusto, a cigar that's been around, and one that helped put CAO on the map back in the 1980s.The CAO Gold has a classic look and feel to it. It's got a Nicaraguan filler with an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper to hold it all in. I'm not sure, but I'd suspect that CAO created this blend long before the Perdomo Champagne or the RoMa Craft EC XVIII were even thought of. And, to me, something that leads to or spawns other somethings is a classic.Regarding the smell of the cigar, before it's even lit, the CAO Gold Robusto smells very leafy. Even after torching the end, the flavors were green and light. My suspicion is that this cigar won't deliver the delicious flavor-punch of the Perdomo or the RoMa Craft mentioned above.Other Cigars Mentioned:Perdomo Champagne: https://www.cigarscore.com/cigar-review-perdomo-champagne-robusto/RoMa Craft Intemperance EC XVIII: https://www.cigarscore.com/cigar-review-roma-craft-intemperance-ec-xviii-brotherly-kindness/FUN FACT: Nick Perdomo made cigars for CAO in 1999 through part of the early 2000s.CigarScore Merch!: https://click.cigarscore.com/merchytUse coupon code CIGARSCORETV to get 15% OFF!Brand: CAOLine: GoldSize: 5 x 50Cut: PunchLight: TorchPrice: $7.09Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut ShadeBinder: NicaraguaFiller: NicaraguaSmoke Time: 45 minutesBuy This Cigar: https://click.cigarscore.com/fs-cao-goldThrough the first third of the CAO Gold, the flavors were very mellow, straight forward, and complex. If you're looking for the rich, bold flavors of the Perdomo or RoMa Craft cigars that also have Nicaraguan fillers with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, the CAO Gold cigar isn't it.Regarding the construction of this cigar, it was almost perfect. I got an even burn and a great draw through the entire smoke. The CAO Gold Robusto is good enough to smoke again, but it's not a cigar with which I'd fill my humidor. I received the RoMa Craft CroMagnon Fomorian as a gift from a good friend. However, after receiving the Fomorian as a gift, I thought I'd review it for you.The RoMa Craft CroMagnon Fomorian is Hulk-green and has a unique and weird and interesting Ecuadorian Connecticut Candela leaf as the wrapper. On the inside, you'll find a Cameroon binder and a filler made up of Nicaraguan tobacco, as is typical of RoMa Craft cigars. Before pulling the Fomorian out of the cellophane, I noticed small cracks in the wrapper.
