The aroma of the Rodriguez Series 84 Maduro Torpedo was of leather and rich tobacco, and I was immediately impressed.After cutting the torpedo end, the draw was perfect. The flavors of the cold draw were reminiscent of whiskey or bourbon. And, after torching the end, the smell of the smoke was quite fantastic. Other than the crack in the wrapper, this cigar had great construction. Regarding the flavors, I was also surprised at how well this cigar pairs with coffee, after every puff, I could really taste the chocolate notes in my Pinon Coffee.My main complaint about this cigar is that it didn't last long enough. You should be able to enjoy a cigar of this size for about 90 minutes, but this cigar only lasted for about 60. I wish I'd been able to smoke it for longer. Regarding the flavors, the Serie V is undeniably Nicaraguan, but the Ecuadorian Habano wrapper adds some spice. However, the spice I get from these cigars like cinnamon, not peppers, so it's a nice combination of sweetness and spice. To fix it, I used my guillotine cutter to try and open up the smoke, but my efforts failed. It looks like I'm going to have to suffer through a tight-ish draw.Final Thoughts:While this wasn't as good as the Oliva Serie V Double Toros I've had in the past, this one was still pretty good. Other than the disappointing draw, this cigar lived up to expectations (and past experiences) in every way.The Serie V has rich flavors of cinnamon and other spices that are balanced with earthy flavors that make up a really nice smoke. Plus it's hard to ignore the quality and length of smoke for the price, all from a premium cigar brand. The flavors were spicey, I could taste cedar, and, occasionally, I could smell (but not taste) a little bit of vanilla.Final Thoughts:In the final third, the flavors of the Padilla Series 1968 Black Bear became a little bit harsh as the cigar heated up. However, even though the cigar didn't remain as good in the end as it started, the flavors were still pretty good.Because of the Padilla Black Bear's price, I think this cigar is worth taking a chance on. For the most part, the construction of the cigar was great. The draw was perfect and I never struggled to get enough smoke. Not much attention was paid to making this lancero look perfect, but hopefully, what the Chop Suey lacks in appearance (due to the inch and a half long shaggy foot), the cigar can make up for in flavor!After using the v-cut (a.k.a "notch cut") to open up the cigar, the draw was a smidge tight. On the cold draw, I could taste tobacco that seemed a little green and under-aged.However, after torching the end, I could taste leather and cedar. The flavors were semi-complex, and with a little sweetness. The draw was just a little tight, but not bad. The burn could have been better, but I didn't have to relight the cigar.Final Thoughts:While this cigar has a funny name and questionable construction quality, at the end of the day, the Punch Chop Suey is just an "okay" cigar. For the entire smoke, the draw was annoyingly tight, and, toward the end, the flavors toward became a little harsh. But, the stick I smoked had a decent burn.Although the Chop Suey isn't a bad cigar, it's not a great cigar either. Had I enjoyed the second half as much as the first, perhaps things (and the CigarScore) would be different. While the flavors were fairly mild and mellow, they were pretty good also, and there was no harshness until the final third. After all, it's a blend that won some "Cigar of the Year" awards a few years ago.The version of this cigar with the natural wrapper (as opposed to the Melanio Maduro) has a Nicaraguan binder and filler underneath an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper that's marbled and quite attractive.After punching the end, the draw is impeccable. The flavors on the cold draw are grassy.It's worth noting that I've had some Oliva Serie V Melanios that had flavors of chocolate and caramel, while others have been mediocre in flavor. It was at about the halfway point where I started to get flavors of cream and caramel, even if they were just faint traces.Final Thoughts:I'm a little conflicted with this cigar because I know what amazing flavors of caramel, cocoa, coffee, and vanilla the Melanio blend can deliver. I've had it on the Churchill vitola, but, I didn't have it today.However, the Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto that I reviewed today doesn't quite live up to what I know a Melanio can deliver. This robusto's draw was great, the flavors were good, and I had an even burn the entire time, but... I know it can do better. I could taste some things I couldn't quite identify, but there were also hints of citrus, cedar, and perhaps, soy. The draw is incredible. But, at this point, I'm not sure whether or not I actually like the cigar.Final Thoughts:After smoking the cigar for about 70 minutes, I could finally put a finger on the flavors and what I thought they reminded me of - the Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured. Though I doubt their processes are the same, the Diesel Grind did taste like a milder, more muted version of the KFC I reviewed. The flavors seemed to have a charred brisket taste to them.While I didn't love the flavors of this stick, you might. For me, "classics" are cigars like the CAO Gold Robusto, a cigar that's been around, and one that helped put CAO on the map back in the 1980s.The CAO Gold has a classic look and feel to it. It's got a Nicaraguan filler with an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper to hold it all in. I'm not sure, but I'd suspect that CAO created this blend long before the Perdomo Champagne or the RoMa Craft EC XVIII were even thought of. I'd seen him smoking this cigar on several occasions, but it always seemed to fall apart on him because of the finicky candela wrapper. However, after receiving the Fomorian as a gift, I thought I'd review it for you.The RoMa Craft CroMagnon Fomorian is Hulk-green and has a unique and weird and interesting Ecuadorian Connecticut Candela leaf as the wrapper. On the inside, you'll find a Cameroon binder and a filler made up of Nicaraguan tobacco, as is typical of RoMa Craft cigars.Before pulling the Fomorian out of the cellophane, I noticed small cracks in the wrapper. I don't know what it is about these cigars, but they sure are troublesome. After punching then end with care, the draw was perfect.
