It was made. It was made for. It's the thing. I like Kim Reddish. She was a cool dude. Some people just really not that good. And I'm just being honest. Like, he was talented. He had a lot of upside. But if you looked at what he did. When you play AAU basketball, it's not real basketball, bro. They don't play no defense. It ain't no schemes. Nobody planning nothing. You play two, three, zone, zone, or you play man to man. And don't nobody play defense. For real. You might have one or two people who really lock up.

So a lot of people are skilled. They can do a lot of things. You might be 6, 8, and it look good. You like, he gonna be a problem? Oh, he averaged 21. Hey, you. It's cool. But then when you put a plan together to guard him, like, if you watch him at Duke, he had moments where he would. He had some bright moments. But most of the year at Duke, he was kind of bad. And that's why he kind of fell in the draft. If y' all don't remember. We got him at 10, I think, with the Hawks.

10 or 11 or something like that.

Yeah. We was, like, surprised that he was there. Cause, you know, he was so highly talented. Yeah, he was supposed to be like a 1, 2, 3 or whatever. He was ranked so high. But we end up getting him at, what, 10? And you see things like, man, he's talented. He's athletic. He got long arms. He can probably defend. Yeah, he wasn't really a shot maybe taker. He's a shot taker.

It looked good.

Like, he had the moves and all that. But let's look at his, like, efficiency. Like, he shot best years, he shot 44. But when he's with the Hawks, what year has he left the Hawks? 36. Like, come on, bro. His years in the Hawks was.

Yeah, below 40, basically, for one year.

[Jeff]

You know what I mean? Like, it was terrible.

And then when it was above 40, the minutes were. Were rather low. So. Yeah, kind of coincides with that.

So it was like you had opportunity, but he was a young guy who was given a lot, and he just didn't know how to play yet. He didn't know how to hone the skills yet. And I think he was a. He could have been a good player. He still can be a good pro. Just difficult, bro.

You think he would have benefited from staying in college or it didn't matter.

Yeah, I mean, no, it didn't matter. I think. I think he went to a team, an organization at that time who was just so young and he didn't have to learn. Like, I think he was around some more pros, like a couple veteran wings.

To teach him how to rope Paul George or something. Yeah, something like that.

But having the opportunity, right, as being drafted, you weren't really that good at Duke. You were cool. But then go to a team. Team where the starting small forward is DeAndre Hunter. And he might be the same age as you.

Yeah, yeah, give me D. Hunt.

But, I mean, it was the same age. And I think he got picked at 4, he got picked at 10 or something like that. Yeah, I don't even know. They might have been the same draft. I can't remember. But it's different.

But he was. Man, that's a. That's a cr. Just a crazy story. And you write about everything you said. But just looking at him, him. I mean, even the experts was like, yeah, he the one.

Because he. If you look at him, he. He's tall, long.

Yeah. Cause you gotta think on au, you playing with people you comfortable with. So if you miss three or four shows shots, nobody care them your guys. If I'm better than my guys and my guys know I'm the guy. And I miss three or four shots, ain't nobody tripping. But when you go to a team now, you miss them three or four shots. You was used to just, you know, when you. Like when we play now in a pro Am game. I know I could miss 10 shots in a row. Ain't nobody gonna say nothing to me cuz I might make, I might make the next 10. It don't work like that in the league. It don't work like that at Duke. You missed your first five. You having a bad game, it's over with, you know what I mean?

Get a little tricky or you got these unnecessary turnovers, you go to the hole and you just lose the ball or you it's fly out your hands or whatever it is. They like we gotta get somebody else in there. And that's what happened. I mean, yeah, I'm glad you pulled up. Imani Bates. Same thing with Imani like these was like can't miss time talents.

But when he plays he does get, he does, he do be killing sometimes.

I'm not saying that. But you gotta think when he was at Memphis like he went to school early. Yeah. Went to Memphis and it didn't show well because he was used to having a ball and be able to do whatever he wanted to do. Miss my first 10 shots, nobody cares.

That's the worst thing about like a lot of top ranked kids, they used to being the guy. It's almost better to be a role player because more people gonna be role players in the NBA than they are gonna be the guy guy.

And it's easy for you to adapt once you get to that if you make it to the NBA.

But it a even that you not being that guy. It's is you need to be the guy so you can learn how to like make other people better. Like if you the guy and all you can do is score, you're not going to be good. Like it's going to be too hard. Cuz everybody can score. Yeah, but if you only known for scoring like Ken was known for scoring. Imani known for getting 4, 40, 50, 60 points. If you not Kevin Durant elite level. But even if you watch Kevin Durant play, he know how to play basketball, I know how to come off a pin down. You don't just got to give me the ball and tell me, watch out, let me do my thing. I know how to come off a pin down, how to hit the open man. I know how to do, I know how to play basketball.

But I can score and I'm really efficient. I don't need 50 shots.
