Shout out to Hard Rock Bet our family for sure. Now I know you really educated about sports. Do you dabble in the sports gamut at all?
Colin Cowherd
Absolutely.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
My first job out of college was Vegas.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Oh, wow. Yeah. That didn't have anything to do with sports, but tell us more.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Started early.
Colin Cowherd
Well, my f. I had first job out of college. I got a. I did an inning of play by play for the Padres AAA affiliate.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
And then eventually led to A sports casting job and Jerry Tarkanian Ledger was big. Tyson was coming into his own. Yeah, and the mob was still there. Tony's philosopher. So one night I go to one night, I did the 11 o' clock sports on TV and my best friend owned an Italian restaurant. And so he calls me and he goes, hey, I just got off. You just got off the news. I had a late close. Let's go down Spring Mountain Road. I gotta drop off some pasta. Because he not only owned a restaurant, but he made pasta for casinos. He goes, I have a delivery at this Italian restaurant on Spring Mountain Road. I said, okay, I'll meet you there. So I walk in, there's four mob guys in the corner. So at the time there was mob was covered by the local news.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
What?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Are you serious?
Colin Cowherd
And Vegas had like Ned Day. Well, I got a. I got out of college at 86, so I. I was in Vegas like late 80s, early 90s. That was when the rebels were great. Larry Johnson.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
So.
Colin Cowherd
So I. My first job out was. Was. So I go to this restaurant and there was a reporter in years ago, you could look it up, named Ned Day. So he was a mob reporter. He was from Milwaukee. He was a mob town at one point.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
So I go to eat dinner at this restaurant and I look over and there's the Joe Besci character.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, what the.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, so. But not Joe Pesci, the real mobster. So I look over in the corner and I'm like, oh, wait a minute. He thinks I'm a news reporter. So I'm like, I. I'm not going to the bathroom. So I sat there. We sat there drinking wine for two hours. I wouldn't pee. Because I'm like, I'm not going to bathroom and walk past because all the mob guys were staring at me. And I'm thinking, they think I'm a mob reporter. And you couldn't take your eyes off them. They looked like mobsters. They were all like this tall and thick and so. So I get out of the restaurant.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
That's a wild measurements.
Colin Cowherd
I. I walked out of the restaurant. And a couple months later, Tony Spilotro, you saw it in the movie Casino Got whacked in a cornfield in Indiana.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's crazy. Well, goddamn, Colin. That's the best hard rock.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
And with that being said, now we're hard rock. These promo code Sopranos.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
He might get some extra.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That is crazy, bro.
Colin Cowherd
Well, you're not the only guy with great stories.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No be any of my stories. I'm like, they are my reporters. And they see them.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Did your best friend.
Colin Cowherd
You ever seen the movie Casino?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
So I. They asked. So the news people you see in the movie Casino, that was my news team. So Dave Courvoisier, Gwen Castaldi, they asked me to do it. But at the time of the filming, the Rebels were good. And I was doing road trips and I couldn't literally go shoot it because I was so busy. The Rebels were great. And so when that movie comes out, the news people. That was my. Channel 3, KVBC in Las Vegas.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I know we haven't introduced you yet, but that has to piss you off a little bit. Like you could have been a casino.
Colin Cowherd
It's one of my favorite movies ever.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
A lot of ours.
Colin Cowherd
That's a great movie.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Thanks.
Colin Cowherd
And so you know Roxy Roxborough, who's played by De Niro. Yeah, you know, that's. That's a real thing. So.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
So these really old people.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, absolutely.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, shit. This is crazy.
Colin Cowherd
So the place where Roxy Roxboro. There's a moment in Casino where Roxy Roxboro gets blown out of a car. So he keeps the door open because he thinks he's gonna get killed. He starts the car and it blows up and it blows him out of the car. That is in the parking lot of Marie's Calendars, which is where I used to go to dinner in between my 6 and 11 o' clock news. Literally. It was a. The mob hit was right there back when I moved to Vegas. That stuff was raw and real.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's crazy. You ever had a Marie Calendar?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, great. Pop that Popeye and cornbread.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Swear to God, they got a chicken pasta. It takes. So what you do is how it comes is a little square.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
It doesn't miss a middle.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Comes like a little square. You just peel it up just a little bit.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, go. Four minutes, right.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Gun smoke.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, my God.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's crazy.
Colin Cowherd
This.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
My man's already
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Internet. You say you never seen John Gruden break down film? That's me here.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
When it comes to food, like, oh, yeah, man.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Come with broccoli and everything, bro.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yes, all I'll take your word for it.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
And with that being said, shout out to our family. Hard Rock met tap in for sure. Be kind of lazy to get you paid. Shout out to our family at Stock X Men. Live in la. It's only right, man. We got a legend in the building. Introduce him last. But to my far left we got my dog Bishop. Be hitting out the pearlies. How you what? Nasty, nasty.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Let's get to it, man. We got a big, big guest today, man.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, we have Mark Cuban on Big Guest.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, that's. That's the guy, too. But you pretty big yourself. But let's talk.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's crazy. I mean, we. We was family. I mean, but that's crazy. Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
I remember when we hired you guys. See, you don't even know the story of it.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
We got the legend in the building for sure. When we're here, we get better stories every time. Yeah. We was wondering how we landed here, so we would love to know.
Colin Cowherd
No, we were. We were looking for. It was very competitive. There was, like, podcasts everywhere. They were exploding, and somebody had mentioned you. And my stepson's like, oh, my God, these guys are hilarious.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, shout out to him.
Colin Cowherd
He goes. He goes, you got to hear these guys. And. And so I'm like, all right. And so my whole theory on podcasting is there's two things that matter. Number one, when we got into this business, we were a small company. We're still a small company, but we're growing. So my theory is we couldn't compete with NBC, espn, or fox. So I said, we have to find guys who are, like, rising stars in AAA baseball. They're great. They're gonna get promoted to the bigs. But once they get to the bigs, which we are now in podcasting, but at the time, we were in double A to aaa. I said, we've gotta find guys. We can't get into bidding wars with huge companies, so we've gotta do better homework. We're baseball scouts, and so we heard you guys, and we're like, oh, they're gonna be in the bigs really fast, so we gotta move on it. And so I listened to it, and my whole. The good broadcasters grinds. You got to grind. So you know that we like people that like busting with the boys. First time I heard them, I'm like, those guys put in work.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
So I listen to you guys. I'm like, oh, these guys put the work in. The second thing is, which is, I think is lost a lot of times is you guys are really what you are as storytellers. That's what it's all about. My favorite baseball announcer all time is Vin Scully. He was a storyteller, and it just so happened baseball was in front of him. But he was really a great American storyteller. Paul Harvey was a legendary radio broadcast where he used to move the ads into the broadcast. You couldn't tell what the broadcast was and what the ads Were. He was a storyteller. So the first time I heard you guys, Logan Swain said, you got to listen to these guys. I'm like, oh, shit. These are our best storytellers at the company. I said, this is going to work. I said, they grind. I said, they're going to get promoted. You were in a Yankee hat. I said, six months here, they're going to be in the show. And when somebody's going to go, I said, we have to show them how good we are at what we do. Two weeks before you get the September call up, which baseball used to have. So then we got lucky, got you and. And it's been great. But. And now we graduated. That we're all growing together. But it was. You guys are great storytellers and that's really. You're good listeners. Great storyteller. You guys think you're basketball and all that. My thing is. No. You could put you in any environment. It doesn't matter what the subject is. You tell good story. Just so happens basketball is your thing.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, we appreciate that, man.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
We never knew. So.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I just remember getting a call from Jamie.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He said, think about it first. Jamie talks to you. We talking to somebody.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Think about it first.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He said, think about it first. I'm going to call you tomorrow. Just give me a chance.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's a fact.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I know, Andy, it's funny that you say that. Time, October. Well, September. It was right at time period. You know what I'm saying? We was evaluating some stuff and then Jamie came in fourth quarter just like,
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
oh, you know, see what you guys got going on.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
But give me a call back tomorrow.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Shout out to our guy, man.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Jamie just basically said we're the better option.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
See, I know what you guys got
Colin Cowherd
going on out there.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
We're better than them.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Shout out to my guy, Jamie.
Colin Cowherd
We don't do a lot of our. Our take is we're really good at what we do. And we've actually told people before, like, okay, go do that for a year. You're going to circle back. That's not going to work.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
It's not because of you. Because we don't think that come. So we. We've. Like. Our whole thing is we're good at what we do. Sometimes people make promises and my. I've always told myself, don't make a promise we can't keep. Like, we're good people. We work hard. You work hard. So it's been. You guys have been. I mean, you guys have been great. Obviously, you know that it's been a huge success.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Do you see the vision, like, with podcasts, like, were you to start a company like this?
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, yeah. The way it happened was Covid. So I want to bore your audience here. But Covid. Covid happened. And nobody. Nobody drove. So Covid happened. And the cars in, like, Los Angeles, there were no cars in the road. And so I was talking to my boss. Julie Talbot ran iHeartRadio, and she said. I said. She called and I said, God, we don't have an audience, do we? And she said, no. She goes, your audience has never left. I said, there's nobody driving. She said, your audience is the only audience. There was one other political person. They're going home and listening to you. And I said, what's happened to our revenue? And she goes, the show sold out. I said, with COVID She goes, yeah, damn. So I went, I thought about it for about three days, and I called her back and I said, listen, if you let me form a company, I'm not going to give you any ownership, but I'll do a rev split. If I can create 2000 hours a
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
month,
Colin Cowherd
you can get 50% of my revenue at the time. I said, because otherwise, when Covid ends, I don't have any spots to sell, and that's going to go to espn. So I said, if I'm sold out now, what the hell happens when this pandemic ends? So I said, let me start a company. And they, you know, they wanted to own it. I said, no, I'm going to own it, but I'll give you a rev split. I'll do all the creating. And then we had to get really busy and find people, and we made some mistakes. I mean, the first couple years, you know, you're just trying to find people, you know, but we. We hired. We got very lucky. The one thing, and this happens in life whenever something often awful happens, the duality of it, like, you're like, all the good stuff happens. So the one thing about COVID that was great is that really good people got let go at companies, people that would never be available in management. Talent, acquisition, salespeople, company. But companies who have to answer to boards, we didn't. Small company, we didn't have to answer to boards. We didn't have to answer to the stock market. And I looked at Jamie, I'm like, I can't believe these people are available. So we started building a team. I said, I told Jamie, I said, let's not take a salary, Jamie. And I said, let's just Go three years and run a day salary. Let's just go buy the best people on the market. That's what we did. We went and found all these people that would have never been available. So one of the things I learned during COVID is, is on the grayest day, in the darkest times, there will be a silver lining. And there were all sorts of people available that would never be. It was almost like if the NBA said, Tomorrow, hey, we're going to get rid of four teams. You're like. You're like, I got 60 players available. I'm going to form a new league. So it was like, all of a sudden, there was all these people on the beach because, you know, NBC is like, oh, budget. Because everybody's earnings went down during COVID Everybody was scared. The economy stuff, they cared. We're like, okay, this is our only opportunity to make this company work.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Damn. Y' all was in the portal.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Say, hey, I think they the nil.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, the real nil.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
NBC ain't treating you right. All these videos come to the West Coast.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
He said, everybody was on the beach.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They put a squad together.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Now that's hilarious.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Shout out to our guy Jamie, man, Happy birthday.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
How did y' all link up, man?
Colin Cowherd
Jamie's funny. So I was at ESPN for I don't know how many years I was there.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Child Sports Nation. Yes.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, yeah. So they didn't. ESPN was great. I mean, I really like what they did. They weren't. They didn't quite know what to do. So, I mean, I've done play by play, but I wasn't play by play. I can be a journalist, but I wasn't a journalist. I wasn't your traditional anchor. So I was like a generalist. I was an opinionist. And. And so they didn't quite know what to do. And one of the guys came up to me, one of the managers said, you know what I'm going to call you? You got a lot of theories. I'm going to call you the company theorist. I said, if I was a pro wrestler, would that sound like something? You go off the theorist. I'm like, that's a terrible brand. And Jamie went to. So Jamie was in management. He goes, let me go talk to this guy. So Jamie listened to me really intently for about two or three. Three weeks. And he went to management and he goes, yeah. He goes, just, you know, I. I don't want to say exactly what he said. It was kind of braggy. But he said, I know how to use this guy, and you guys don't let me create a show. And so I told him I'm not going to do a traditional show. Yeah, I said, I want to be with a woman. I want somebody that gives me shit. I want, you know, I want, I'm, I tend to be like, I mean, to be honest with you, kind of like older white guy, bloviating, king of the hill. I'm like, I need somebody to take shots at me. I need somebody. I said, so get a kind of a smart ass woman that'll take shots at me. And we interviewed like seven and Michelle Beadle was, I mean, literally 30 seconds of doing it. I covered my mic and I said, it's your job, you've got it. And the other women were great and they've all, they all had great jobs, but she was just perfect. And Jamie built the show, which. And I, and I said, I said, you know, I literally talk all the time by myself on the radio, criticizing and being critical. Somebody has to hit me. Somebody's got to throw pitches at me. And so that show was kind of, I was sort of the target of everybody's criticism. And that made me more, I thought, more likable. And the show was. And we were basically targeting young kids after school. And so it was, the show was light and fun and we talked about stuff that was just nonsense that nobody talked. We also talked about stuff no other show talked about because I said, we can't compete with SportsCenter. There was a guy at ESPN, a great guy named Brian Kenny. And Brian was one of those guys at espn. He could literally do everything. Ping pong, host, reporting. And I said, we have to create a show that Brian Kenny would feel uncomfortable on. So he could literally do any show at espn. He could do play by play boxing. I said, what if we had created a show that Brian Kenny would go, yeah, that doesn't work for me. That doesn't work. And I said, that's the show. I said, we gotta create something that's so weird and so ridiculous that our traditional anchors would be like, yeah, that's not gonna work for me. That show does. And that's the show we created.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Damn, that's dope. Shout out to my guy Jamie, man, he's seen the vision for sure.
Colin Cowherd
He really knows what he's doing. He's really different now.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
You know, I heard you say, kinda like our show.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I was gonna say, yeah, it's kind of like our show. I was real interested.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I know you said your stepson put you on, but what demo did y' all Hear from us. I'm really interested. Cause I'm thinking of the time period
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
of what we was saying.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
We was doing it in back in 520, like, before we had a studio. I'm like, well, what did they hear to say? Sign them.
Colin Cowherd
I don't think we ever cared about demo. Like, we were like, talent, work ethic, storytellers. Okay. We didn't really care about. We weren't, like, seeking blank, blank, blank. I'm just like, dude, we're looking for funny. We're looking for storytellers. We didn't really. We weren't like, checking box. We didn't care. Like, I've always looked at us as a. We're a talent company. We don't give a shit. You can be a pro wrestler. I. I wanted to hire Ric Flair, Charlotte Flair.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh.
Colin Cowherd
And I'm like, you know, I was like, she's talented. Doesn't matter if it's. I don't care. You know, I don't. I'm into talent. I. It's not like I'm a baseball company. And if you can't play short, right. I look at it like, I'm. We're a media company. You got talent. We think we're good working with talent. So we didn't really worry about demographics and stuff or age if you guys were 80 and. And storytellers, you know, we don't care.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Arp pod, baby. Tap in for sure. Sponsored by Bingay. Now, I asked you this question. If it was different times for you, you and you growing as a journalist this time period, who is the athlete that you would start your pod with?
Colin Cowherd
There's a. Yeah, that's interesting. There's a lot of interesting people. Chemistry is really hard. So one of the reasons the show works is you guys not only like each other, but you respect each other.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Right. So one of the reasons I like old school, I had Channing Fry on the other day. Channing Fry made good money. He didn't make Kevin Garnett money.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
So I like people who have been successful but still need to work. Jamie and I always had this theory that when we hired people, we didn't have to be your biggest income, but we couldn't be worse than second. Like. Like, if you were a basketball player. We're not going to pay you what the warriors are, but we got it. If you have a big shoe deal now, we're third. Eventually you won't care. So we've got to be your second. Or you, you know, you may have a pension or you got a local deal. I don't have to outbid everybody, but if I'm not your second. So I would have to find an athlete who made good money but would need to put the work in. So when you ask me who's the athlete I would work with, it's really who would be the teammate I would work with. I'd have to find a teammate. It really wouldn't be sports specific person, specific gender. It could be Charlotte Flair. It wouldn't matter, right? Wrestling pays her more. But she didn't have a shoe deal. Albeer shoe deal. So that's kind of how I look at it. I'm and they're and it's really interesting, you know.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)

We. We basically, we do it. Sometimes we don't create pods. We find them. But we've gotten more into the pod creation business, and that's the same thing. We're looking for people that, like, need to work but have been successful on their own. Like the Sophie Cunningham pod. You know, she's got a real gig, but her and Wes. But a lot of it is, you know, it's like when you go on a trip, okay, if you go on a trip with LeBron, he's going to be like, okay, I'm going to buy this $24,000 bottle of vino, and you'll be all like, oh, we got to chip in for that, right?
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
You know, that's LeBron.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I ain't got nothing for LeBron.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
He ain't never not been on the max deal.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He got this for sure. Oh, I ain't even. I don't know where my wallet is. Bring nothing on this. We.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Not even a shoe deal.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
We go even, too. I'm not paying for. I'm not bringing my wallet, man.
Colin Cowherd
You want a vacation with somebody who's kind of in the same realm? Right, Right. Nobody wants to go to Vegas and it's four guys and then the rich dude, and everybody resents him by the first dinner check. Yeah, right. So you just gotta find similar trips.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They're crazy.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
All right, so we didn't get names. Now you gotta pick between two people. Sergeant Pod, Miles Turner or Mike Mabel.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Mike Babel.
Colin Cowherd
Miles Turner's actually interesting.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Shout out to Miles.
Colin Cowherd
He'll say. He'll say stuff we heard. You know, coaches don't say a lot. I don't put a lot of coaches on my show. They're not because it's coach speak. Most of them didn't make player money. So they're going to be pretty protective of their fraternity, their tribe, you know, like, they got the coaching guys. So, like Nick Saban's rare. Like, Nick Saban will just call people out.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Because Nick's up here. He retired at the top. He doesn't owe anybody anything. So Saban's can really. Urban Meyer's similar. Like Urban doesn't, you know, he golfs and he broadcasts. He's not getting back into coaching. Hard to find. A lot of. It's hard to find those NFL guys.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
What about basketball, though? You don't think there's no basketball coaches that'll come.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They the same. A little bit, though. Yeah.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Thiago Splitter. No, we need to hear about what happened in Portland, man.
Colin Cowherd
But he'd be a long term partner. Great guest.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Well, the owner said he ain't paying him so.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Shit.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
He probably looking for no income right now.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I feel about that, man.
Colin Cowherd
But he's in Portland, so respect. It's a great fan base.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
It is.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They have a great fan base.
Colin Cowherd
I don't like the idea of him pulling them out of the city.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, that ain't broken.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
We just talking about the.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They sell out every quarterback.
Colin Cowherd
What you guys, don't you like the fan base there?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, they sell out every game. Portland was great to play.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Shout out to the supersonics, bro. Like we need that area. Like they all that whole.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Only paying the coach a million dollars.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Him telling them ain't no T shirts tonight is crazy in a playoff.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
We ain't been in this shit in a long time.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Our coach is called a rico. We can't get a fucking T shirt.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That was it.
Advertisement Voice
I know you.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You just bought this team, bro. You ain't heard from Bread that bad. You can't get a black T shirt for two games.
Colin Cowherd
Have you watched the Jailblazer Dog on Netflix? Yeah, yeah, I was the one covering that.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, it just gets better. You and Jamie got some of the best stories. Yeah, I've just been everywhere.
Colin Cowherd
Like every time I worked at the NBC affiliate. Now, what's funny was Damon didn't like me at the time. Although I love Damon and he was the only guy that got in trouble. I had real sympathy for Damon because he was in Toronto and he. They had a baseball team and a hockey team and Toronto maybe the most diverse city in the world. Yeah, I mean, so Damon510 could hide in Portland from there, and it was his hometown.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
And I think there was nowhere Damon could go and just. Just have a nice night out. Because Portland's not like a wild. I mean, is downtown Portland and the boring burbs. So, like, Sheed was young and emotional. He was fun. It was actually funny. I liked covering him. But the Damon thing, I always had sympathy for him. It's like, you can't go home again. And I felt like he got. He was a little trapped there. Like I said on Netflix, like, guys, I'm not a fucking crime reporter. Like, I'm a basketball guy. Like, so it got to a point where every time I showed up to a press conference, I was a bad guy.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
And I wanted to ask basketball questions, but my management's like, hey, you've got to ask about the recent, you know, arrest. And it got really tiring. But Bob. So Bob Whitset was a gm, and Bob was. The Blazers were in a weird spot where they were too good to get good draft picks. So they always drafted at, like, 15. So I used to say, bob, guy, this roster, and he's like, try drafting 15. He goes, the NBA runs out of players at 13. So they ended up getting, like, Jermaine O', Neal, like, middle of the first. And Bob's like, we get guys who can play. He goes, we're not drafting four. I mean, go. I mean, like, this year's draft is rare. Next year's draft, by three, you're out of players.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
Three years ago, you're out of. I mean, in the James Wiseman draft, it's Ant and Lamelo, I think was in that one. Yeah. So. So Bob's thing was, we don't get real precious here. I got the 17th pick. I'm giving you an NBA player. So. And that was. His defense is like, we draft guys and they make the league. I mean, Jermaine was a good player.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Great.
Colin Cowherd
So and so they were in a weird spot. Where would he been? Like, would Bob have been like, really? If Bob had the 6 pick, he could be much more concerned about, you know, characters. Like, I'm just trying to find a guy because that Portland team was so stacked. I mean, if you couldn't play, you'd get sniffed out in two practices.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
I mean, it was. I mean, honest. Arvida, she, Pippin Smith, Bonzi. Damn it.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
The Kobe stopper.
Colin Cowherd
I mean, Jermaine. I remember going to practices and the players wanted Jermaine to play. He was out of high school like 18. And he was a dog at practice. I mean, killing guys. Oh, he was killing guys. He was the only one that cared about practice. So in practice, Jermaine would just crushing. And the players are like, he's gonna play. And, you know, it took him time to.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
So I. I had a lot of sympathy for everybody. I covered. They should have beaten the Lakers.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They should have.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
They got cheated.
Colin Cowherd
Well, and also, I mean, they just got tight shots in the fourth.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They missed, what, 10 in a row? 12 in a row.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Cheated the whole game, though.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
But they missed 12 shots in a row.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I'm frustrated.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I give you that. We talk about the draft. You just said that, like, this draft is a special draft. I guess they would say you got AJ Devanza, supposed to be number one. Darren Peterson, who would you take number one?
Colin Cowherd
I think DeBancer. I think Darren Peterson has a higher ceiling. I worry that he's. He's a silo player. Like, no assists. Like Kawhi when he broke into the league. Yeah, Darren's going to get 26. I mean, I remember before the season, Doug Gottlieb coaches at Green Bay, he said, you gotta watch Darren Peterson. So Kansas was on two nights later, I turned it on three possessions. I'm like, that's Kobe. And I'm no basketball scout, but I'm like, bro, that's Kobe. And he goes, yeah, we're playing him in a week. Yeah. And he lit him up. So I saw him. But then I started watching him. I'm a boy. He really plays in a silo, you know, he doesn't really help. DeBont says now, I think Darren's a more polished offensive player, but the hammy, they're now calling it too much creatine.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I was going to ask y'.
Colin Cowherd
All. I just worry about it.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Stepped on.
Colin Cowherd
Devontae never be as polished offensively. But he doesn't play in a silo. I think he's stronger. It looks like his structure's bigger and stronger. I worry, though, when he goes to Washington with Trey young. Trey averages 19 shots a game. Trey can be tough to play with. He gets you the ball late in the shot clock. Not going to defend a lot. You know, his reputation. I mean, remember when he left Atlanta, Jalen Johnson exploded. Remember when Harden left, Philly Maxey exploded. So I think DeBonta, I think his first year, two years in the league, he'll average 21. And then they'll move Trey and they'll average 28. You don't like him?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I don't think he's going.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I like him.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Any change?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He's going to Utah.
Colin Cowherd
You think so? What are you going to give Washington? Walker? Kessler?
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Oh, no. You get.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Ace Bailey is going.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Ace Bailey? Oh, I wouldn't give two pick and the future pick.
Colin Cowherd
You'd give up Ace Bailey?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I wouldn't if I'm getting A.J.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
yeah, not for me.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
But that's what they want. I told him they've been grooming him
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
for the last seven years. You clearly want him more than what, Ace Bailey.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I mean, he went to high school in Utah.
Colin Cowherd
Like, I don't know if I'd give up Ace Bailey.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I would. I'm rolling.
Colin Cowherd
Ace Bailey is free.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, Ace Bailey. Oh, Ace Bailey. What did you say? DJ? Speak. What? Speak. D.C. you're on your way.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Learn more songs, brother, you will be in the nation's capital.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's what's standing between me and AJ the pantsman.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
It's not a good idea.
Colin Cowherd
The best. The best. There's two. There's two great. There's two great players in professional sports.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
Let's take out baseball with no salary cap.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
The two greatest players you can have in football, basketball or hockey. Superstars or really good guys for free. Ace Bailey is free for four years.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
Dylan Harper. You gotta be kidding me. The Dylan Harper's free? That guy's insane. So if you don't have LeBron in his prime. Well, like, I think Halliburton's an amazing talent. He's a. I mean, he's an amazing talent. I think he's my favorite player right now in the league.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You gotta get some more players.
Colin Cowherd
No, I mean, I just like him the way he plays.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
No, but I'm saying either have a star or have a really good player who's free. There's no value in having a B plus guy that's a fortune like that. Those guys are all over the league. They.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
A.J. gonna be free.
Colin Cowherd
You're not paying him for three years.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I know, A.J. i'm saying. So if you let Ace Bailey go to get A.J. who's gonna be free?
Colin Cowherd
I want two free. Damn. But remember Salt Lake, you can't get free agents.
Advertisement Voice
Yeah, but they just.
Colin Cowherd
You have to overpay in Salt Lake.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's why you trade for A.J. yeah. You gotta go for a star. He's gonna be a star.
Colin Cowherd
You don't think Ace Bailey's a star?
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I think he's solid. I think he has.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I think he's gonna be a good player.
Colin Cowherd
19 a game.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
19.
Colin Cowherd
19 8.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I think AJ can average 27.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
If Ace get the opportunity, he can school, bro.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He's a good player.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
He's similar, but Utah's so stacked. Like your front court you pay so much money in.
Colin Cowherd
But remember, Utah you have to overpay for.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
But you gotta remember AJ actually likes Utah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Colin, you don't even gotta look at me when you speak.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Think about it though. He went to a school where he
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
couldn't have sex in to be a Jazz bro. They're going to get this shit done, bro.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Ace. Ace didn't want to go to Utah at all. He did at all. He wanted to go to D.C. that was not for fucking Utah. That's true.
Colin Cowherd
That was your best selling point.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He didn't want to be there.
Colin Cowherd
He didn't want to go to Utah. That's pretty good.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Actually wants to go there now.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Colin, while I got you here, I've never asked you for anything, but I need your help on this. You're a great journalist. Can we please find out why the NBA hates my fucking Pacers? Because there is no way in the world that that lottery pick would just happenstance and what they did to us to set us back. And I'm really upset about this, but I would love to hear your thoughts.
Colin Cowherd
First of all, if you were going to rig the NBA, there is no way you'd have Oklahoma City as the champion.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, it just doesn't make sense.
Colin Cowherd
Secondly, if you were going to rig the NBA, I think everybody looks at Halliburton is like. He's kind of Steph Curry. Midwest. Like everybody. He's just the night. Well, you know,
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
they disrespect my faces. They disrespect.
Colin Cowherd
No, I'm. I'm talking. I know. I'm talking about selling shoes. Likable personality, plays with joy. Not a score. Colin, I'm not saying style.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Love by Reese. That's Bullets. Steph Curry. What?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, no. Okay.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I gotta respect Colin Tank though.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I respect it.
Colin Cowherd
I'm not saying points and, and icon. I'm saying in the Midwest, if I said. I'll just say this, say this out loud. There's this kind of handsome, funny, playful, joyful leader of a franchise that you can't help but like elevates his teammates. He's kind of polarizing the guys, but you can't quite figure it out. You'd be like. Like Steph Curry. No, no, no. Be that. That'd be Tyrese Halliburton. He like, you know, he's kind of polarizing because his game doesn't have. By the way, NBA guys liked Westbrook over Curry because Westbrook had hops and was physical and tough. A lot of guys thought. And then Curry came out with a pharmacy shoes. And people are like, oh, God, you got no credibility.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That is right.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
The ball on the cbs, too.
Colin Cowherd
And so Halliburton, Bobby Ropins. Halliburton got voted most overrated player in the league by players. And you watch him, you're like, okay, that's animosity. Yeah. You can't tell me that over his herky jerky. There's nothing else like it in the game. It doesn't look like anybody else's game.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
One of the best postseason runs in NBA history.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
He's a damn good player. I just. When you said Steph Curry, you think
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
he better than Trae Young?
Colin Cowherd
Oh, absolutely. Because I think.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
What do we do different? Destroy him?
Colin Cowherd
No, he. He. So don't confuse. Okay. I have a theory in life.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Okay, here we go.
Colin Cowherd
Okay. Don't confuse.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They said you were a theory, man. Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Don't confuse assists with, you're a good teammate. That's like confusing people in the family who give gifts, but you can't stand. Yeah, there are good gift givers, but you're like, God, Paul's a douchebag. But he gets great. Everybody looks and goes, oh, my God, Trey's assists. Yeah. Late in the shot clock. He deals it after. Like, Trey is not easy to play with. Halliburton's a joy to play. And I like Trey. Trey's a great guy and he's a huge talent. But people look, Marbury used to get a lot of assists. He got his points first, then he hand out assists. Like people. People look at assists and think it's like steals. Iverson leads the league in steals. He took huge risks. Yeah, right. That doesn't mean you're a great defensive player.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, but I. I don't know. I ain't messing with that type. Trey Young.
Colin Cowherd
I'm not saying he's not a good player.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, no. You didn't call him sad. He's better than Tyres Halliburton, though.
Colin Cowherd
And for what?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
He can score better, he could pass better. Tyrese ain't one of the biggest defenders in the world. Shit, Colin talking like, Tyrese Halliburton guard like, we're on our test.
Colin Cowherd
You guys don't like Halliburton? I love Halliburton.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I think Halliburton go pg.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, I love Halliburton, but I just think it's.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I think Trey more with less.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
Then how come they traded him? Cause you know, sometimes he does less with more.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
The King straight in. Tyrese Halliburton.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Two poverty franchises, the Hawks and the Kings.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Colin Cowherd
By the way, another guy that gives out assists. James Harden leaves Philly. Maxi explodes. You'd think, well, he made Maxi a better player. Maxi became an all star overnight. 27 a game. Trey Young leaves Atlanta. Jalen Johnson explodes.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They learn already. Yeah, he got hurt.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, he got.
Colin Cowherd
He went all star.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He was going all star last year. He was averaging around 20 facts.
Colin Cowherd
I didn't say all my takes are right.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's funny.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Trey Young too. Because they was trying to go in a different direction and we thought we
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
was blowing it up. Yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
And they didn't want to pain and he was injury prone.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Now I have a question for you. We shout to his auction though, and they got number eight pick. But I was telling him they didn't deserve number one pick because of Zachary Richardson. Am I okay with saying that? Because I feel like as a franchise who never got number one pick, if you abuse yours, you don't get another one. This new lottery system I'm hating right now. Just I'm.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
The draft.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I'm really.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Well, y' all took Zubot. That was a.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Tell em they made a piss poor decision.
Colin Cowherd
Well, there's a. There is an argument that you shouldn't get back to back number ones. There's Orlando did years ago. They remember they won back to back lotteries. There's. There's an argument you shouldn't. I see. I think the tanking thing's overblown. So this year there are nine tanking teams. Oh. What. What's interesting is that it. The draft has nine players viewed as all stars. There's no reason to tank next year. So people. So organizations. This year, nine teams were willing to kind of screw with their culture. Why? Because there was nine great players.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
There weren't 13 tankers. Because there's not 13. Great. Then you're going to get into Jaxel, Landenborg, Adai Mara. Good players. Not. Not franchise change.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, more going higher.
Colin Cowherd
No, I think he's. Good day.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Mara going top seven.
Colin Cowherd
You think so? Yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
The point is next year is a terrible draft. There'll be no tanking. You're not going to school your culture to get a fifth starter this year. People were willing to just say we're going to lose on. We're kind of going to kind of lose because the talent's so good.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
And I got mad because our best player got hurt in Game 7. And everybody else, they was just their same team. They was just sad. Like we weren't really taking we lost our best player. We had no choice. We weren't going to win those games without him.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Right.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
And we got penalized for it.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, yeah, that's crazy.
Colin Cowherd
But you guys needed a center, so you went to the Clippers and that
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
was a bad and dj let this shit go.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
It's over with, bro.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)

Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Y' all drafting Zuba, y' all did a bad deal.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
You know it's bad because I'm a Cowboys fan so now I I don't have to look forward to like it's about to be training camp and like I just know sadness for another year.
Colin Cowherd
Like the Cowboys will be okay.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah they have a better season.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They always okay eight and eight.
Colin Cowherd
They'll be around. There was they'll they'll be nine and eight.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
But you know Mike Evans look real good man.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
How you feel about Boozer? How do you feel about the Boozer kid?
Colin Cowherd
I like him. I think really smart kid you're going to get. Like I talked to a scout, I talked to a scout in the Eastern Conference two weeks ago, long time scout and he said I don't know if he'll make an all star team but he'll make your team better. He'll be your third best player. He'll be 18 and 10. He'll be a lot like his dad. He'll be a solid starter. He's not going to be your one or two starter on a championship team but he'll Be a really good third starter. He may make an all star team in the east, probably not in the west, but he's, he's a really, really.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
How you said that?
Colin Cowherd
What, what's that? Well, the east is not very good.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Well, see, that's where I make my all start. I kind of feel a little way about that.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
They don't want to admit it. I swear they said it before the season.
Colin Cowherd
It was two years ago. The eighth seed made the finals last year the four seed did. This year the number one seed doesn't have a second score.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Don't worry about it cuz. New York is here to save the day. I wore my Knicks head. Oh, the Knicks are back.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
What's your real take on them?
Colin Cowherd
I missed it because they literally switched. They made Cat a point center.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, I never saw that coming.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, I didn't see it coming. So my whole take was complimentary. Roster can't have. Really can't. You want, you want Mitchell Robinson. You don't want Mitchell on the floor because he's an offensive limited player. But you can't have Cat on late because he'll get worked and he creates, he does weird fouls. So he's like a huge liability. And they decided we're going to bring him outside, take the burden off Brunson, make him a point center. And I'm like, oh shit. I mean he went from one assist a game to seven. He's a totally different player. So he's always been skilled. He's always been a little emotional, a weird foul guy, but he's always been a great jump shooter. So I think Mike Brown deserves a ton of credit.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yeah, he didn't get like a lot of slander basically what was going on. But like you said, that's a major adjustment. It was them still alive right now.
Colin Cowherd
They remember at the end of the year there were all these leaks. I can remember listening. Was it Josh Hart or somebody said like our chemistry's not good. It was like 12 games to go and I'm like, oh, they're shot. And then all of a sudden now their chemistry is great. So a lot of times everybody always wants to make predictions, but stuff okay, like football. Everybody was like, well, Sam Darnold turnovers. Seahawks were second in the NFL last year in giveaways, playoff start. Sam Darnold didn't have a turnover in the better conference. And you're like, well nobody predicted that because it was never happened before. Everybody, everybody liked Darnold, but like turnovers. We all like Cat, but you're like, he kind of plays in a silo. Can't have him on the floor. We just change his game. So it's like sometimes stuff happens that it's just good coaching.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Can you think, do you think the Knicks can be okay?
Colin Cowherd
I think they can play with them. I think they're really a problem for the spurs because The spurs are 20 years old and the Knicks got. They got guys, they got men. I think OKC is just too deep. I mean, it's just waves. San Antonio is a little top heavy at this point. They.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You.
Colin Cowherd
I think the Knicks could take them. I think it's a six game series. Five, six.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
They got a better bench than the Knicks though.
Colin Cowherd
They do. That's why they would win the series. They would shut it up. See, I think Minnesota and Oklahoma City are not great matchups for the Knicks. I think San Antonio, because of their youth, they would win it. But they, New York would give them problems. I mean, they beat him in the cup.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Okay, good take.
Colin Cowherd
That take was better than the Curry. Oh, yeah. Smoke
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
while we here.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
What's one take you wish you could take by one take you had? It was like, oh, this age.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Like Ben Simmons, I got you. Oh, oh, don't worry about it. Don't worry about. I got you. I remember that.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
What I said.
Colin Cowherd
What did I say? I think it was pretty funny.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Simmons is LeBron way.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, I did.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Simmons is here. I said, Benjamin at the time.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Colin, I'm with you.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
You went crazy. That was some Tyrese Albert, Steph Curry shit. He had a moment. But at that time, Ben Simmons, bro, was going up, man.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I played against him. I said, have y' all not seen LeBron?
Colin Cowherd
Hell no. I got a little hot that day. I was. I overheated on the air.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Well, what made you, like, feel that way?
Colin Cowherd
Well, because I was told I. I had my basketball. College guys are like, that's probably the best part. They're like, it's magic. If Magic played defense, they're like, Magic couldn't shoot either. They're like, he's magic, but he's maybe a better athlete and he plays real defense. So people forget. He comes into the league and you're like, he's six, nine. He's kind of a rim protector. He doesn't need to shoot. He scores mostly at the rim. He was like, you know how, like, Jokic is like a point center? He was like a center point. You're like, okay, he can. He's like a big guy. Nobody matched up with him. And then all of a sudden, you know, once again, just like podcasting, he didn't love the game. He loved what the game provided. He didn't really love the game. And then he had an injury. Then he lost his confidence. And you're like, wow, this is bad.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
We saw the doc before he pulled up one of my favorite documentaries.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
One of the best college documentaries.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I'm curious.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I go here.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Trey Young. You know, speaking of Trae Young, he kind of ruined that Ben Simmons. Remember, he went to block his shot.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, yeah, that.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's that defensive recovery by Trey Young that we was talking about.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yeah, that was a turning point.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That was a turning point.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That was. Damn you right.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Trey Young was a paint defender from
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
that day on out.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That is.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
The Wizards are in good hands.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Look at
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
the Wizards.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Gonna be really good, though.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
You don't think they can make the playoffs next year?
Colin Cowherd
Who?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
The Wizards. With AD in the East.
Colin Cowherd
Well, AD Ain't gonna be there. Yeah, I don't think he's gonna be there either.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
He ain't gonna be there in the East. College.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. They'll make the playoffs. Yeah. Devonsel average 21. Trey will be 23. They'll be fun to watch.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Damn. Alex R. Yeah, Alex.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
AD Gonna go. Y' all keep saying this. Where is he gonna go?
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Well, if he wants the number one pick, you have to get AD So
Colin Cowherd
whoever wants to pick, nobody's always looking. How many years left in his contract?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
He said he still gotta win mvp.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Defensive. That's a player of the year underway. Like, that's what he said.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's what he said.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, we heard him shouts AD He's.
Colin Cowherd
He's an all time great defensive player. Yeah, all time. One of the best. Call. He's like, Cam Newton is the best college football player I ever saw. Him or Vince Young. Anthony Davis is Cooper flag. Anthony Davis, like, Wimmy didn't play here. LeBron didn't play. If you gave me the best five best players I've seen in college basketball,
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
give me a list.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, he would be your. He'd be your power forward in the last decade.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Is Ion make it?
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, probably. He does.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Ricky Z.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Where you put Carmelo
Colin Cowherd
Melo makes it. It'd be a. It'd be a. We'd have a lot of threes, I would say.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Where does Kevin Durant go? Kevin Durant.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Where's Michael Beasley go?
Colin Cowherd
Durant. Oh, Kevin Durant. Yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Tough list. It's a tough list.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
We give you all big. Got to the point.
Colin Cowherd
Trey Young would be actually one of your best.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, my God, he was amazing.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
He was going against this letter nation.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. He would be like, your point.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Well, he'd be your point. I know. He'd be ours. We'd be yours.
Colin Cowherd
You know, but it is funny. What. What doesn't transition. In my heyday, I got a lot of gray hair. Pearl Washington was the point guard of night. No. And the two guard of note was Harold Minor.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Yep. So it's interesting, the guys that in like, transition.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Very, very few points out of college have bombed. Most men, big guys fail because they, you know, like Kwame didn't develop his game. He dominated high school because he was just physically stronger. Most points, you gotta have game. You're not. You know, I mean, you were small when you were eighth grade. Very few points.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
You know, why don't you think like Christian Ledner and them. Why didn't he.
Colin Cowherd
Well, Christian was actually good. He averaged 19 one year. He's like Keith Van Horn. People are like, oh, it didn't work. And you're looking at. Look at his numbers and you're like, he's actually okay. Keith Van Horn a scored a lot of points. Yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
But you would say Christian Leonard had a great.
Colin Cowherd
No, no. Okay. But I'll. I'll give you a br examp how
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
big he was in college.
Colin Cowherd
So again, he was one of the best college players. Christian Layton will be on your starting five all time. In college, you ran out of. He outplayed Sha.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
We said five now.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
So Christian Laner AD or Christian Lane. College.
Colin Cowherd
Christian Laner. Laner. Maybe second or third best. I mean, you got to go to. He was Bill Walton Alcinder. Christian Layton.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
You see, a lot of teams are cheating, bro. They are cheap.
Colin Cowherd
Christian Laitner was in. I covered him. I, I went to those final Fours. He was. I mean, even Tark would tell you. It was like there was nobody. I. When I, I covered. One time, I covered a Laker Blazer series. I think it was the. It was the legendary series. And I asked a question to Phil Jackson about how do you stop Rashid Wallace? And he goes, you don't, because we don't have an answer for him. I can remember Tark talking, asking the questions about Christian Laitner's like, we don't really have an answer for him. Nobody can stop him. He. He, he took Shaq apart in college. They met once.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
That's a fact.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You think if Anthony Davis would have played four years, he wouldn't have had it?
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. If he would have done it. Probably. Anthony was a great player.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Probably the greatest college defender of all time.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, for sure.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
He had more blocking the entire team Tournaments.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, easily.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Now, another one of my favorite moments. You, you and levar Ball, man.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, Jesus.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Y' all made magic, man. What was that moment like for you?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Did you expect the things that happened on show that took place?
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Unlock memory.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I know moving there. It's a very important moment.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. He. Sometimes you just gotta let. I mean, listen, he, he leaned into his thing and so I leaned into him. It wasn't journalism. It was like as a funny guy, he's going to say stuff, it's going to go digital. Let him have his Runway.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Never lost.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That was crazy.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
He was set that up or somebody brought him to.
Colin Cowherd
Somebody brought him in. They said, we're going to bring him on the show today. And I was like, you know, he's not mean spirited. He's funny. He's like, he's almost like a boxing promoter from the 70s or 80s. Like half of it is just nonsense. But I liked him. I thought he was funny. And, you know, not every guest. I'm not doing heavy lifting here. I'm not, you know, I'm not 60 minutes. It's. It's sports, you know, sports takes for sure.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Legendary episodes, for sure, man. How you feel about the players in the media going back at it so much now? Is that new because of what's going on or has this been going on behind closed doors?
Colin Cowherd
If you go to, if you go to Europe, if you go. The tabloids of Europe, the writers and the talk show hosts and the athletes have been going at each other for, you know, we're way more sanitized over here. You go over to Europe, it gets, I mean, you've had. It gets ugly. So my take is, I've always said I have a right to ask you a question and you have a right not to answer it. I always, I have a theory on my whole career, which is I have opinions. You can have opinions on my opinions. I'm not going to have an opinion on your opinion on my opinion. I have a. Takes fire away on it. You can feel any way you want, rip me to shreds. I don't care. I got another 12 minutes to fill. So my, my take is sometimes athletes hate me, sometimes they don't. My take is rip me. I don't have a problem. I mean, like, I love kd, but I think he and Aaron Rodgers are sometimes high maintenance. And I would tell Both that I'm like, I think you're great. I'd vote for your hall of Fame. But I. Somebody said on my staff the other day, KD is like a boat. The best day is the first day I have it and the first day I sell it. Damn. The two best days of a boat are buying it and selling it. And by the way, somebody else will buy the boat because you have amazing moments. It is awesome. You kind of feel like cool guy in the neighborhood when you get the boat or kd. And then after about a year, you're like, man, it's a lot of work. It's expensive. It's a lot of work.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I don't know if I feel about kd.
Colin Cowherd
Kd. Think about this. Kd. KD is navy. Time out. Kd.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Royal Caribbean.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Jeff.
Colin Cowherd
KD is as good. Mark Few told me when he coached the Olympic team, he said, Even with LeBron, he goes, I've never. And Mark's been at Gonzaga for 28 years, had 30 pros. He goes, I've never seen it. Never got a bad shot in a possession. Could give him the ball with two seconds left. He goes, even LeBron gets bad shots. So think about that. If I told you there's a basketball player literally unstoppable, how many teams he been on? 1 and was 6. There's gotta be something there. I mean, if you. If you walked by and saw the most beautiful woman, you're like, it's her fifth husband. You'd be like, oh.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I mean.
Colin Cowherd
I mean, wouldn't you be like, okay, there's something there.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Well, how many of them die? Because we gotta go through the numbers there.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They all still here.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Then we got something to talk about.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
But.
Colin Cowherd
But I mean, honestly, if you. If you meet somebody and you're like,
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
man, a bad number, I'd be like, maybe she.
Colin Cowherd
I can like him.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Good for them.
Colin Cowherd
I can like him.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
They were the problem.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, it wasn't her.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, so a law of averages. Prime example is Houston's net rating was higher when he didn't play. It's not because of lack of talent. There was clearly a disconnect between young guys and KD.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
That's a fact.
Colin Cowherd
Like, LeBron's never gone anywhere where the net rating is better when he leaves. Ever. So you can bet people always criticize LeBron. I'm like, time out. He elevates everybody. He made Matthew Dellavedova look viable in the playoffs.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Got him paid, too.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's okay.
Colin Cowherd
You can say LeBron's been on multiple teams so that's because LeBron's the greatest talent in 30 years. And LeBron has chosen where to go. KD has made, you know, choices that like, you look at him and you're like, that didn't make any sense. Every LeBron decision's made sense. Now think about this. In basketball culture, we went to Golden State, okay? No, no, I like that move. But then he left Golden State for Brooklyn. And the reason was, I want to play with my friend. Now think about this. If Mahomes said, tomorrow I'm going to the jets, why? I just love throwing to my slot receiver. You'd go, fuck out of here. What are you crazy?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You're going to leave.
Colin Cowherd
You're going to leave Andy Reid to go. And you'd be like, but the basketball culture, it's understood where you like, but watch them.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, there's an old line and all the stuff comes together with that. Like the jets ain't got shit over there. Respectfully, if you're going to the jets, you probably should be evaluated. Yeah. There's nothing over there.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I'm gonna go.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
So he digging. Yeah, I love it.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I'm rolling.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
At least he was going to play with Kyrie Irving. Yeah. One of the best talents in the
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
world and they damn near one.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, okay.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Long ass feet. There's a reason why they didn't even go to the gym, bro.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah. I mean, if they didn't get hurt, they probably would have beat my Milwaukee Bucks, who I led to a championship. But other than that,
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
he knew that.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, it was. I think me and Giannis had 50 points. Was he late to the bus? Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
You guys think I don't like KD? I've. I've said before, in the history of the NBA, if you took out centers and you played a one on one tournament, KD would beat LeBron and Michael. He would be, he would win the all time. You got to take out centers.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Everybody plays league history.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
You're gonna beat them too.
Colin Cowherd
I would say KD would win. I. I love kd.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
But I mean, there's the net rating, the Houston stuff, the burner phone.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
There's a lot of stuff you messy.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, yeah.
Colin Cowherd
The burner. You think that's wrong?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
The burner phone call, you could have left that out.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Was he wrong?
Colin Cowherd
I'm not saying he was. Are you married?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No.
Colin Cowherd
Are you married?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
Okay. There's a lot of questions you'll be asking a marriage. It's not about being right.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Ask it.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, no, no, no.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, so you're You. You're. You're saying there are ways to answer questions, there are ways to do things. I'm not saying he was wrong, but it's a team sport, either.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Nah. 100. That's true.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, that's true.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
So is LeBron gonna take a vet minimum?
Colin Cowherd
I think.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I don't know why everybody keeps saying that. Like, that's. Even.
Colin Cowherd
He won't take a vet, but he'll. I. I think LeBron is conflating. He. He's LeBron. Not that he's confusing, but LeBron's like, Listen, you gotta pay me some respect here. I'm not taking this. LeBron's using commerce as respect. And my take is the ultimate respect. As you age in my space is giving me better management. Like, I. I tell young broadcasters all the time, don't chase money. Chase management. There's a sea of money. There's a finite level. Jamie. There's a finite level of talent. Don't chase money. So LeBron, I think, is kind of psychologically is chasing money for respect. And I'm like, no, the respect is. We think you're so great. We're going to surround you with people. We think we can win a title with you. That's what we think. We have so much respect. We can win a title, but we can't win it if it's just You3. Because LeBron, you can't play 44 minutes of defense. So I think you have to. Sometimes you have a telescope, you have to just flip it. LeBron's looking at it and going, you're not paying me this and that. And my take is, no flip it. It is respect. We think we can win the title, but we have to get two wing defenders. Like, they're just not athletic enough. Like, they are not athletic.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
So you think he's staying in la?
Colin Cowherd
I would go pay for Hartenstein. I would go because I think he can run a little bit. I would go get him as a rim defender and then go get a wing defender.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You think they're saying he's staying in la?
Colin Cowherd
I do.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
We think he's going. We got a theory.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
We got the homecoming.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
We think he's going back to Cleveland.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, I predicted that.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He has to go on his last road, and Khalifa has to be.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Are you talking about the lady who has six husbands?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Well, this is his.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
His old wife, and he loves to go back to her. They've been separated. They got married again.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I want that.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Why not?
Colin Cowherd
I know how that ring feel.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, let's get it back I'm almost
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
out of here anyway.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, I think it's hard to go from LA to Cleveland. I think once you've experienced la, you can hide in la. You know, there's just certain places once you go there, like, like D. Wade, Miami. So I'm gonna go back to Chicago. It's like it's cold. Like Miami is hard to leave. It becomes part of like I have friends that have lived in New Orleans. Yeah, like I go to New Orleans, it's, it's two, three nights and then I gotta, you know, stuff isn't firing right. Like so so. But if you live in New Orleans and you leave the rest of the country is Pleasantville like New Orleans is food, drink, late. There's a voodoo, the whole culture. So like. So my old take is when you live in la, it's built for stars, gates, topography, hills, hiding hedges. Akron is. It's. You're trapped.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
It's LeBron though. He gonna be bothered anywhere though. Cause you can't use that as a reason not to go back.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
And we need to see Brian.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
And he's with a better. And he's with a better team.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That James Jr. Gonna be nice.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Another ring in Cleveland.
Colin Cowherd
Nah, it really.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's how the Lakers fans feel about it. They don't care about the bubble ring.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Just saying Kyle.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
They're like, LeBron only got one ring.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Like, damn, man, be grateful we ain't
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
never got one ever. Shit, I'll take a bubble ring for sure.
Colin Cowherd
I don't think he's gonna.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I mean I got one on either.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
You think so? Because of the city.
Colin Cowherd
I think LeBron's family loves it. I think LeBron was worth 600 million when he moved to LA. He's now worth 1.2 billion. It's LA changes.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I mean, he gonna be back in the summer.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I mean, yeah, he's just a six month rent. You act like his life is changing.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
His house will be finished by then.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)

can make a real run. He's just not.
Colin Cowherd
LeBron's never been a go. You know, I should say he's never been a go backwards guy. LeBron's very aspirational. Everything about LeBron is going to a kind of growing his brand and is. It feels like to me, it'd be a step back. Like you. He went to Cleveland because Cleveland didn't have a championship. So that wasn't a step back. That was a step forward in kind of solving or redeeming his reputation in a city he grew up with. Now you're like, well, I'm going to go. There's a lot of play. I mean, I'll be honest with you. If he went to New York, Mikhail Bridges, Laker, LeBron, New York, biggest stage. New York's not beating the spurs and OKC with the current rock. He goes to new. Winning in New York is different than winning anywhere in the NBA. The Knicks are going to make $180 million. The Knicks are just based on their home playoff games. That's how much that's. New York's different.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, like, that's where I want to go. I'll be a Knick.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's all you got to give up, though, is my.
Colin Cowherd
And you know, if LeBron left LA for a year, he'd be the most inspired guy in the league for sure. He'd play great. And that roster has a lot of things that you gotta give him. More than my kids, huh?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
More than my kid. I'm not doing that straight.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He a free agent, though?
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Quite.
Colin Cowherd
Ron is McHale and a picker? I mean. Well, no, he is a free agent, so he. He is.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, I didn't know that. I thought he had one more year.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Do you pay awesome Lakers Supermax?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That's a good question.
Colin Cowherd
I don't pay him the max.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
See, look, good question, bro.
Colin Cowherd
No, but you can't let him go, so you have to pay him something. But you don't pay him the max.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
But do you pay him because Luca wants him or just because.
Colin Cowherd
No, you pay him because you. You can't get new Alex Caruso. He's better than Alex Caruso offensively. But they let Alex Caruso go. You can't let him go. You got to get something. So you sign into a mostly team friendly deal. They've promoted him, they've marketed him.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
He averaged 27. Ain't no team friendly nothing. No, no.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
What are you getting behind?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
No. Now he acting like the Portland
Colin Cowherd
well, but he calls.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Okay, so you give me a team friendly anything.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Get ready to speak Utah Jazz. We are signing, trading if you want.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
You gonna have to pay him though.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He had Oscar Kester is on his way. And who else?
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Lori marketing or Lori marketing?
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
How many give Austere Reeves?
Colin Cowherd
Well, 240 is the max. I'd give him 180 and that would allow me within a year to move him if I had to.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
4 year. 180.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yeah. Cause the most he can get for no team is 170 for the four years.
Colin Cowherd
So I give him over that.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I got you extra 10. But that's get what you get though.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I like that four year old.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Hey man.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Okay.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
All right, man. I just team friendly just like two friends. I just didn't know where you was going with that.
Colin Cowherd
T. I would say team flexible.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
At 240 you're not. Yeah, it's not flexible.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, no, no. You're done. You can't get nobody else. Yeah, I don't think that backcourt can win nothing.
Colin Cowherd
Austin. You can't win a title.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, they can't.
Colin Cowherd
They're wildly entertaining.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
That's a fact.
Colin Cowherd
It's a great like the Knicks and the Lakers half court offense. Really fun to watch. Knicks have better players.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
They do.
Colin Cowherd
They have real defensive players. Josh, Mitchell, Robinson, OG Lakers don't have one elite defensive player. Marcus Smart. That's it. And he's 13.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
And DeAndre.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
What we got next?
Colin Cowherd
That's as bad as my. That's as bad as my Halliburton nominator nominated.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Before we hear how you feel about the AI man you are here. Yeah, I mean like helping people's relationships, man.
Colin Cowherd
The AI thing they created. Have you seen that at Fox? Oh, that's pretty good.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
AI calling me. I help people with their relationships.
Colin Cowherd
Pretty good.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Normally being helps people with their relationships. I think we need to make an AI.
Colin Cowherd
There's an AI on your phone if you go to Fox Sports and look up.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, okay. I'm gonna check it out.
Colin Cowherd
It's pretty good. You can ask it.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
So you want to act like Steve Harvey.
Colin Cowherd
No, I mean it's only sports is Steve Harvey relationships.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, well yeah, for sure.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Stephen A too.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Remember Stephen I Did the relationship stuff too.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, that was od.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I don't know how would it went, but it happened.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
What's your take on the greatest player of all time?
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yes, he said greatest talent of 30 years. It was real specific how he said.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, he made sure to say that part. Go ahead and say it.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, so if I said to you.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
You need some of your question.
Colin Cowherd
Let's just say. Let's just say LeBron and Michael.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
Okay. One possession, who would you take? What we doing? One possession.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Am I down? One, two, three.
Colin Cowherd
I take Jordan.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Jordan.
Colin Cowherd
One possession, no matter what, One game, who would you take?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
LeBron.
Colin Cowherd
I think I take LeBron. One series. LeBron has had bad series. I would take Michael. So one. One possession, Michael, one series, Michael, one game, LeBron. Because he'll. He's an additive for other people. One season, Michael wears people out. One contract, LeBron, I mean, Michael wore guys out. LeBron doesn't wear guys out. So I think there's moments where Michael, because of his killer instinct. Okay, but with Michael, you got. He wore people out. Right. LeBron doesn't really. That's not really his vibe. So if you told me a season or a contract.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You had the number one pick.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Get to it.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You had number one pick. He stands the draft all time. The volume. We just bought the Seattle team. You got one draft, all time, your number one pick to start your franchise. You're taking LeBron.
Colin Cowherd
Today's the basketball, however you want it.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Today's basketball.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, so Michael can't hand check. And Michael has to be able to shoot threes, which he never did, except for the two years they moved it in. Not every player like Bill Russell doesn't work today, Michael. Today.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Tell me who you pick, though.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Who do you got?
Colin Cowherd
LeBron. LeBron. Now again, Luis, we got him.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Do all your stuff right now, Luis. He said LeBron's the greatest player ever. This thumbnail is going to be legendary.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, for sure.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, no.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
2 goes for sure, man.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
So you saying. Let's say it's 91.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, then it's a hand check league. Three point shot. Doesn't matter. The pace is slower half court. Michael.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I ain't mad at that.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
That is two different era, that.
Colin Cowherd
Totally different era.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Now the game's very slow. It's a half court. LeBron. LeBron is a good. One of LeBron's advantages is he just gets up the court in his prime faster and he's just. He's a freight train. If you remember the first three years he was in the league. I didn't think his game was that much fun to watch. I just thought he was amazing. But I didn't think his game was like clever. It was like he was like a defensive end. He would. His big play was running down the floor and blocking the ball off the backboard. And I remember thinking, God, is he going to develop a jumper? And then three or four years, he's always been super bright. Three or four years into the league, you're like, well, he's now shooting jumpers and he doesn't have to. So the game is changing. But Michael was only because Michael had big hands. Guys with big hands don't necessarily shoot threes. Kawhi as well. So Michael, the NBA moved it for two years. Michael had his highest shooting percentage. Remember the Portland game when he does like this? It was so shocking because Michael wasn't that guy. So in that, in the old era when it was a more physical league, slower pace, half court offense, that's Michael's league.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Well said. Before we get out of here, guys, some future questions. Who wins the chip this year in NBA? Okay.
Colin Cowherd
Say repeat for one more year. Yeah. Then April and then San Antonio goes in a run.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
You think it's women's league after this?
Colin Cowherd
Yep. And I don't think it's. I think it's obvious.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You think he's the greatest talent we ever seen.
Colin Cowherd
No, I think LeBron's the greatest talent we've ever seen. I think Wemby has some genetic advantages. I don't think he'll ever be, you know, he's not, he's inconsistent. A little. He's not always fluid offensively. I'm going to throw a name out. This is really going to date me. We saw. No, not Ralph Sampson. We saw a little bit of Wemby and a guy named Sam Bowie. Go YouTube.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Sam Buoy, Kentucky legend.
Colin Cowherd
He was filling the lane at 7:3 and I mean pulling up and hitting jumpers.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Like, like Ralph wasn't. Ralph was a total post player.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Sam Bowie, the first time I saw him, I was like, man, he'll shoot a jumper. But his, he's. His body fell apart.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Did you think like when you seen that, did you like. Yeah, I take him over Michael Wemby. No, no. When he seen Sam Bowie.
Colin Cowherd
No, because they had Drexler, so they were trapped.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
You know, and I, I understood it at the time. I would say about Wemby is ask yourself this. Kobe did about 90%, 85% of what Michael did, but he wasn't Quite as strong. He didn't have the hand size. So Michael was the stronger player. There are players, some would say Elgin Baylor did a little bit of LeBron. There have been players that can do some of what LeBron can do. There are things that Michael and LeBron can't do that Wemby can. Wemby does stuff. Those guys like, yeah, I just can't do it. So then you get into a space like, are we just judging on titles or. There are. There are components to Wemby's game that nobody's done.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I've never seen somebody 7 foot 4
Colin Cowherd
guys don't have handles. They don't.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
They're not that fluid. Like that stuff's never been done like that. That's Tiger woods hitting out of the rough 280 with a three iron. You're like, okay, that's just not. Nobody else has done that. Tiger was. I mean, Mickelson hit shots and Nichols there was. Tiger had about a 10 year run. They're like, yeah, that's not been done.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
And. Or duplicated, even with different golf equipment. And Bryson, the shamble strength like Tiger was different.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Nah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I like how you broke in the
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
women's league for sure. NFL win the Super Bowl. I know it's real early when you guys train again.
Colin Cowherd
Buffalo.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
Oh, shit.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
This is the year I gave up on the Bills.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
This is the year Josh Allen finally gets out.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Josh Allen let me down every year, man.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. Buffalo or the Rams?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
The Rams is back.
Colin Cowherd
Rams are really good. Buffalo or the Rams?
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
I'm surprised. The Rams.
Colin Cowherd
I will say dark horse Detroit because they went and got a really smart OC from Arizona and they solved their left tackle and their GM is brilliant. Holmes. Brad Holmes. They have a really good roster. I think Detroit's going to be the surprise team. Not surprised because we know they're good.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
I think they could win 14 games.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
The Niners will be back.
Colin Cowherd
Ah, they're getting really old.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
N. We old for sure. Kettle's gonna be back, though. I seen him drinking beers at WrestleMania, so.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh, yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He should be back. He better be back. Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Unbelievable athlete.
Colin Cowherd
Fifth round pick.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
He's special for sure.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
The Ners will be back out the way for sure. Probably not the super bowl for sure. But listen, man, it was great. We got to do this, man. Glad we got to make this happen, man.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, I. They told me two days ago. I'm like, all right, where are we doing it at? I thought I had to fly to Indy. Oh. They're like, no, he's in. He's in our studios. Pretty nice studios.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No, this is super nice. That's really nice.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Definitely dope.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah. Yeah.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
After Mark, man, they don't fly people to Indianapolis no more, man. So we decided to pull up on you, man. Get a little trick out.
Colin Cowherd
Hey, indies. Indy's got a great airport.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
The easiest airport.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Number one.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Number one.
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
And that was a national. All my love.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Respect that. We just went through lax.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, no, no, it's Holland.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
I walk from Santa Monic.
Colin Cowherd
Did you fly American?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Oh yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Americans spent 300 million to update it. And I always say, would they update if you had a bad hip? Let's say you're 75 years old, you get off your flight in American. You have a bad hip.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
How do you get outside?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
You don't.
Colin Cowherd
I'm not. That is the longest walk.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
And that's somebody with a bad hip.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
He just diagnosed it. NBA Combine. My hip is good, bro. They try to redraft me this year, bro. I drunk a 32 inch vertical, bro.
Colin Cowherd
32?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah. You had a better combine this time
Host 1 (Possibly a main podcast host)
around than the first time. Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I don't know what I was doing in 09, but I need to relax because I was. I don't know how they drafted me. I'm like, man, I got drafted.
Colin Cowherd
What was your vertical end? 30.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Then I had a running vertical of 36 and I think I ran. It was what, 34.
Colin Cowherd
You have a better vertical now?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yes.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Huh?
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
Crazy.
Colin Cowherd
Is that nutrition? Is it? Do you work out?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
Yeah, I worked out, but I don't know what the hell I was doing.
Colin Cowherd
Oh no.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I must. Didn't give a damn.
Host 2 (Co-host or secondary host)
It was crazy seeing them numbers though.
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
I was. I was kind of shocked. Like shit.
Colin Cowherd
Do you still play?
Host 3 (Co-host or secondary host)
No. I might do a ten day though. Oh Lord.

Podcast: Club 520 Podcast
Hosts: Jeff Teague, DJ Wells, Bishop B Henn
Guest: Colin Cowherd
Date: May 18, 2026
This high-energy episode welcomes Colin Cowherd—host, sports opinionist, and founder at The Volume—onto Club 520 for a candid, wide-ranging discussion recorded live in Los Angeles. The crew, led by Jeff Teague and co-hosts DJ Wells and Bishop B Henn, dive into Colin’s wild stories from Las Vegas with the mob, the backstory of Club 520 joining Volume, the DNA of a great podcast, inside NBA debates (notably LeBron vs Jordan), the trajectories of stars like Halliburton and Ben Simmons, and forecasts for the NBA and NFL. The show is packed with laughs, sharp insights, candid industry talk, and plenty of storytelling.
[04:13 – 08:56]
“We sat there drinking wine for two hours. I wouldn’t pee. All the mob guys were staring at me… They looked like mobsters. Tall and thick.” — Colin Cowherd ([05:53])
Memorable Moment:
The table teases Colin about “promo code Sopranos” after hearing the story.
[10:06 – 13:50]
“We’re looking for the best storytellers… You could put you in any environment, doesn’t matter what the subject is. You tell good story. Just so happens basketball is your thing.” — Colin Cowherd ([12:24])
Backstory:
Colin and his team “scouted” Club 520, prioritized talent and hustle over demographics, and put trust in their ability to spot “the next big thing.”
[13:53 – 16:46]
Quote:
“On the grayest day, in the darkest times, there will be a silver lining.” — Colin Cowherd ([15:51])
[21:45 – 23:21]
“It’s not who’s the athlete, it’s who’d be the teammate. Would they put the work in?” — Colin Cowherd ([22:10])
[34:54 – 38:46]
Notable Banter:
“You want a vacation with somebody who’s in the same realm… No one wants to go to Vegas and have one rich dude—everyone resents him by the first dinner.” — Colin Cowherd ([29:11])
[39:30 – 44:28]
[53:03 – 54:26]
[59:53 – 64:49]
Discussion on the rise of players clapping back at media, in America vs Europe.
Quote:
“I have opinions. You can have opinions on my opinions. I’m not going to have an opinion on your opinion of my opinion.” — Colin Cowherd ([60:03])
Hilarious analogy:
“KD is like a boat. The best days are buying and selling it. It’s awesome, but eventually… it’s a lot of work.” — Colin Cowherd ([61:12])
Net rating and “fit” with KD (“He’s probably the greatest 1-on-1 player in history, but the team context is weird—think about a woman who’s had five husbands…” — [62:17]).
[76:50 – 78:59]
Collin’s nuanced answer—situation determines the “GOAT”:
Quote:
“Michael wore guys out. LeBron doesn’t. If you told me a season or a contract… LeBron.” — Colin Cowherd ([78:04])
“If you start a franchise today, all-time draft: LeBron in today’s game… Michael in ‘91, hand-check league.”
[80:12 – 82:10]
Colin predicts San Antonio will take over after OKC’s reign.
Wemby is not the “greatest talent ever,” but has “genetic advantages”—draws comparison to Sam Bowie’s flashes of unicorn skills (with caveats).
Quote:
“There are things Michael and LeBron can’t do that Wemby can. He does stuff those guys just… can’t.” — Colin Cowherd ([81:23])
[82:42 – 83:34]
[83:44 – End]
On scouting podcasts:
“I listened to you guys, and my whole...the good broadcasters grind. You gotta grind… You’re good listeners, great storytellers. You think it’s about basketball—no. You could talk about anything.” — Colin Cowherd ([12:24])
On LeBron vs Jordan:
“One possession, I take Jordan. One game, LeBron. One series, Michael. One contract, LeBron.” ([77:13–78:04])
On Ben Simmons:
“He didn’t love the game—he loved what the game provided. And then he had injury, then he lost his confidence. You’re like, wow, this is bad.” ([54:18])
On KD’s legacy:
“You meet someone and she’s on her fifth husband… You’d be like, okay, there’s something there.” ([62:17])
On Halliburton’s reputation:
“Halliburton got voted most overrated player in the league by players. You watch him, you’re like, okay, that’s animosity.” ([41:32])
On building a company during COVID:
“On the grayest day, in the darkest times, there will be a silver lining.” ([15:51])
The episode blends irreverence, sharp sports banter, and storytelling with friendly jabs and deep dives—a natural, locker-room tone balanced by Colin’s polished, reflective industry insights. Everyone gets in on the laughs (and the roasting), but the energy never loses its pace or substance.
This episode is a perfect entry point to Club 520, spotlighting why the show resonates: big personalities, real sports talk, funny and vulnerable storytelling, and industry wisdom with zero pretense. For fans of NBA debates, sports media, and behind-the-scenes commentary, it’s must-listen content.
