Joe Hayden
Hey, hey, Joe.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
How you doing today? Joe? I heard you was doing some things over the weekend, Joe, brother.
Joe Hayden
Deebo, I'm doing great. I attended some, you know what I'm saying? A beautiful, beautiful wedding. It's nothing but love. It was love in the air. That's all I got to say.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
It was love in the air.
Joe Hayden
It was love in the air.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
It was love in the air. And y', all, I heard y' all was kind of messing up people's, you know, electricity. They were shutting off shit and everything out there for you. You know what, what was going. Joe, Joe, listen, man, tell me, how was the festivities? Joe?
Joe Hayden
Festivities?
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
You know, I ain't getting no invite. You know why I ain't getting no invite? They said, look, they said I was gonna mess it up.
Joe Hayden
You was gonna come in there with the, with the beater on. I knew that you was going. You would have got the invite. You would have came in there, tuxedo down, flexed up, dressed to impress, you know what I'm saying? And that's Debo. I came in there stepping. Did you see me? I came in that joint, watch on, clean, bro. I was clean as the board of health, I'm gonna tell you that right now.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
You was cleaner than my lady health, Joe. You was cleaner than the board of health, cleaner than the board of Health.
Joe Hayden
I came in there with the pocket watch, you know what I'm saying? Long story short, I met my man Trav, though, minute ago. You know, he's from Cleveland. So I got the invite, was super excited about it. Okay. A lot of familiar faces in the spot, Debo. I felt like it was real. I'm not. You know what I'm saying? A lot of familiar faces. I felt like we was at the ESPYs/ the Grammys slash the Oscars. But me, I love love. I love love. I genuinely think Trav and Trav and Taylor are happy together. My man invited me to go to one of his games probably three years ago for Taylor's birthday, invite us out there. So me and my wife got to meet her. Kicked it with him. Great couple. I just woke. Nothing but the best. So it was a spectacle. It was a sight to see. I'm keeping my NDAs, you know what I'm saying? So it was just a lot of people there. It was amazing. It was a great time, great function. Got to bump shoulders with a lot of good friends, saw a lot of people that I haven't seen in a while, but it was fire, Debo. It was dope.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Okay, well, what about what you do? Anniversary, all that stuff? You had a lot of stuff going on on the weekend, Joe.
Joe Hayden
Yes. So then that's why I'm still right now. We went to the Hamptons, brought my lady out to the Hamptons for the first time, you know what I'm saying? Had to go see what that was like. Got a little nice spot. Got a little hotel called at the Topping Rose. You know, some friends were out there. We ended up doing some shopping in East Hamptons, a little lunch, watch the. Watch the World cup, okay. You know what I'm saying? So we've been doing a little bit of that. Yesterday, I was supposed to get my flight. I was supposed to be home right now, but the weather was crazy out here, so I had to end up staying at the Hyatt next to JFK Hotel, which Is connected to a Dag on casino. I didn't know. So I'm in this hotel right now, Deebo. I jimmy rigging it off my phone, but I'm with my lady. We're still in New York. We're having a great time.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
So that's the scenery.
Joe Hayden
Sarah downstairs. I told her, I know I can't have you in the little. In the room when I'm on my pod. I got it. Me and Deebo here.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
It's crazy.
Joe Hayden
She gonna be. She gonna be sitting there looking at me, like, saying stuff.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Listen, I need to say, hey, what's up?
Tab Ramos
Holla at it.
Joe Hayden
Like, holla at your boy.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Like, what you talking, man? Okay.
Joe Hayden
No, man, I had to send Sarah down, get some lunch, you know what I'm saying?
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
All the time.
Joe Hayden
I gave him my voucher. I gave him my voucher. She about to go hit the slot machines, you know what I'm saying? Might do a little blackjack down there. So you know what I'm saying? So she. She was like this. I'll be fine. I'm like, yeah, I bet you are gonna be fine.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yeah. How much you need? She said about this much.
Joe Hayden
Literally. Debo. She gave me. Just fill up. Just fill up my fingers right here with a little wad. A little wider. That.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Fold it in, lay it flat.
Joe Hayden
Make it flat. De. I folded it. I double folded. I folded it, and then I folded it again just to try to make it thicker. I said, yep, that right there, about 750 with 20s and all in there.
Tab Ramos
That.
Joe Hayden
That'll do it for you.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Oh, man. Good job. Good job, man. Listen here.
Joe Hayden
Thank you, brother.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Happy anniversary. Belated. All that good stuff again.
Joe Hayden
Thank you.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Glad you had a good time, man. You said that was what, 12, 13 years?
Joe Hayden
13 years, Deebo.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
13 years, man. 13 years. Look looking forward to another 50 or 60 of them things, you know what I'm saying? Thank you.
Joe Hayden
But, Deebo, I gotta tell you one thing that happened, too. It was a little crazy. I need to stay on land. I need to stop doing all the dumb stuff.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Like, I be talking about what you do, Judge.
Joe Hayden
I really realized it. So we are going from the Hamptons to. No, we're going from Manhattan to the Hamptons. So it's like two and a half hour drive, right? So everybody's like, oh, no, the traffic's gonna be crazy. It's like two and a half hours, maybe three hours. But there's a little blade service where you can get a little. Hell, where you can get. Where you can get a little A little helicopter that could take you from Manhattan to. To. To the Hamptons. And it takes 30 minutes, right? So I said, oh, man. Yeah, we'll kill. We'll crush two hours of the time of the travel. Okay, so the app is called Blade, Deebo. It's called Blade, and it can take you. So it's either a helicopter or a seaplane. Do you know what a seaplane is?
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yes, sir. I done did the seaplane. I did Alaska, remember?
Joe Hayden
I did not do the seaplane, Deebo. I did not know what a seaplane is, and I will never get on the damn seaplane again.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
How we gonna go to Alaska then?
Joe Hayden
No. No. Well, it must be better seaplanes out there than our seaplanes. Cause we had to take off, and there's people in the water. So we get on, and now that we're going, and we need. It's fourth of July, so it's boats all over the place. So we need a little bit, like, a longer way to take off. We start going to take off, and boats start coming. So we go up, and then we come back down. Boom. I'm like, oh, my God. Me and my old lady, we're like this. Oh, my goodness. Is this supposed to happen?
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Hell, no.
Joe Hayden
Is this plane ever supposed to go up and come back down? Debo. We went up and came back down. So now I'm spooked. Me and my lady spooked. Long story short, 15, 10 minutes later, we found a little more Runway. We took off with the seaplane, and we made it right the next day. Deebo. I see the seaplane done crashed, but everybody was okay. Everybody survived. All eight survivors. They had the thing for the people on the seaplane. Seaplane. It landed. It landed. And then the little wing came down. Nobody got hurt or nothing, but the same seaplane. My wife was like this, but my wife was like, baby, that was our seaplane.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
RC plane was up and came back down.
Joe Hayden
I don't think it was. It's the same company. It was Blade. I'm like, I don't know how many cplanes they have going from this place to the next place. I was like, babe. They probably got three plays. I'm going to say, babe. I told her, I think it's 50. 50. It was RC plane. She was like, you better give me 70. 30. That was RC plane. I'm like, sir, I can't do that. But you might be right. I own them seat D blow. I need to stay my ass on land. I be doing too much.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Listen, no more Blade. For me, listen, the problem with them seaplanes, man, is you need real pilots. So you got these pilots that come off these flights on, you know, like, these. These jets and all that, dude. You need a bush pilot, dude. And that's what you need.
Joe Hayden
Somebody that knows how to fly their self.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Listen, they gotta be like. Like an expert in that, dude. Because you're talking about they moving three, four different parts. They doing this, they flipping this, they doing that.
Tab Ramos
Yes.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
We have to adjust it. It ain't flying itself. Like you do the jets.
Joe Hayden
No, it's not.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Do a clicker here. You play with the joystick here and all that other.
Joe Hayden
They got the pulling back,
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
stopping to get the going. They going to, man. I'm like. I'm looking at dude like, ooh, wee.
Joe Hayden
I'm like, are you about to pedal us into the air?
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yes.
Joe Hayden
Like, I'm thinking we instantly supposed to go. But he get to dropping the stuff in the middle. I'm like, oh, my goodness. What is everybody doing? So, yeah, that was crazy. That was crazy. But safe, good. Everything I just had.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
How'd you get back, Joe? Did you take the plane back?
Joe Hayden
We sat in traffic for three and a half hours to get back over here depot. Are you kidding me? I'm not getting on no more seaplane. It was the most traffic in my life. We said, my wife. We were sitting there dead silent. We didn't move for 40 minutes in the traffic. So it said it was supposed to take us 2 hours and 30 minutes. It took us 3 hours and 30 minutes to get from the Hamptons back to JFK. But I didn't care. I was watching the Wire. I started cutting on TV shows. I'm sitting in that car like, babe, I mean, what do you want from me? Do you remember what you looked like in that seaplane? Okay, we're chilling. Watch the Wire with me right here. Like, you know what I'm saying? Did you miss Love Island? Like, get. Get on, Peacock. We were chilling.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Do something. Do something. Listen, we ain't got time to complain. We living.
Joe Hayden
We're living.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
We're living.
Joe Hayden
Oh, my goodness.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Listen, listen, man. You gotta swim a lot of that plane, too, once it crash.
Joe Hayden
That's for sure. That's what I think.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
I know how to swap out of that thing, too.
Joe Hayden
I know how to swim.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Only good thing is that you can hold on to it because the whole thing ain't gonna sink.
Joe Hayden
The whole.
Tom Boger
Yes.
Joe Hayden
They got. It's supposed to be able to just land on water, so you supposed to be safer.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
He ain't know what he is doing, dude. And you gotta hope that he, you know, they come in to do the.
Joe Hayden
Do the land.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
If they do the nose dive into the boom.
Joe Hayden
Oh, oh.
Guest (Gymnastics/Olympic Champion)
See?
Joe Hayden
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. But the crazy part was, Deebo, we just took off from. We took off from the water and we landed on land.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Oh, they had one of them. They ain't have a real seaplane. They had an in between. See, dude, we had an in between. He wasn't the real. Y' all had that fake stuff, man. You ain't had a real, real, real C plane, man. I had the C plane, man, where I'm sitting up there in the front with him and. And he working the joystick and all that. And I'm literally like. Got my arm like this just to have room. So he working all that. I'm here. We in there tight. Joe. It was feeling good, too. I ain't gonna even lie to you. It was feeling good. I realized that he was doing the thing. He had. He had the skills, man. I was looking at it. I was watching you, man.
Joe Hayden
He wasn't.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
He wasn't flinching when the plane did a little bitty bop. He just adjusted a little bit. You know, this and that, man. You know what I'm saying? Like, he was doing that. He was a bush pilot. That's all he did.
Joe Hayden
So you felt comfortable. Cause you already knew.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
And then they put us in a big one, and the big one had, like, eight seats in it. Six, eight seats in it. I was like, oh, Lord, this was good. Like the one we had before, it was four seats now.
Joe Hayden
Okay, no, four seats. We was in the eight seat cats,
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
like, me, my size sitting in there, see?
Pharmaceutical Ad Voice
No.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Did y' all have to weigh yourself?
Joe Hayden
Oh, yeah, we did, but we only. We had an eight seater with four people in it. So they was trying to figure out my luggage could only be £25. Me and Sarah, our first time on the seaplane, we came with the tumi. We came with a whole luggage. They like, look, we go see how many people on it. It was only four people on there, so we was able to bring our luggage. They like, ah, the weight distribution. Now I'm like, is it tatumi that's bringing us down?
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Listen, I don't know. Hey, listen. And you gotta be like, okay, you gotta sit here. You gotta sit there. Like I'm out front, like. Cause that's what. Like, dude, like. It was crazy, bro. Yeah, I ain't gonna lie. It was good, though. It was good, brother. I'M glad you made it back safe, man. I'm glad you had the foresight to be like, you know what? We gonna go. Go ahead and take this three hours. You know what I'm saying? Keep my ass. They ain't flying right over there.
Joe Hayden
We almost drove from the Hamptons all the way back to Virginia. I'm like, I'm not getting on no more planes. I'm just going to get us there.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
You know? You can't listen, Joe. You can't listen. You can't. You can't go that far.
Kohler Cast Iron Ambassador
Now.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)

Joe Hayden

Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
The weather knows. What the hell, you know, what the hell?
Joe Hayden
4:30 flight. I'm headed to the airport. Now you tell me I'm delayed to 6. 45. Now I'm almost there. Now you telling me I'm just canceling you?

Joe Hayden

Joe Hayden
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you. You beo. I'm telling you, you a vault.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
You evolve.
Joe Hayden
I try to tell you, you ain't gonna tell nobody. I try to believe that's what that's one thing I learned about you, bro. You ain't gonna tell. You ain't gonna tell nobody business. You ain't gonna tell them secrets nothing.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Now, hey, that between you it.
Joe Hayden
Yes, sir. Yes, sir. That's it.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Look here, Aaron rogers, okay? Mike McCarthy's offense, he said. Aaron Rogers said, Mike McCarthy's offense is all about quarterback timing. Roger said he knew exactly what he needs to do in McCarthy's system. And it's about having. It's about him having his timing down with his teammates. He said, it's just the next generation of the west coast offense. It was kind of. It went kind of bill washed to kind of like Mike was doing with Paul Hackett. And then it kind of grew from there. From a real fundamental level. It's all about the quarterback's timing. I spent 13 years in Mike McCarthy's offense. He changed some stuff when he was in Dallas. Am I getting an echo? He changed some stuff when he was in Dallas. It's stuff that we used to run, but he just called it something different now, Joe.
Joe Hayden
Yes, sir.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Now look here, I got another one for you, though. Former quarterback, former NFL quarterback Rich gannon On Mike McCarthy, he said this. He said, I really feel like. He said, I really feel, looking back, like I wasted the first seven years in the league. I'm not going to criticize other coaches, but if I had someone like Mike. He's talking about Mike McCarthy. In the first half of my career, it would have been a lot different. He just made me a lot better player. Mike just took it to another level. He said, I was almost 30 years old before I learned how to prepare for a week of football. I had blinders on for the first seven years. I wasn't exposed to that type of preparation. I owe a lot to him. The attention to details was like nothing I had ever seen. He's hurt. He's head and shoulders above everyone else. Look here, man, what do you feel? How. What do you. What's your anticipation, man, of what you think that we're going to get from this, from this offense, from Mike McCarthy's offense. And how do you see the improvement or no improvement? Like, what do you see? What is your anticipation of seeing from our offense?
Joe Hayden
I'm anticipating our offense being a lot better, light years better, honestly. I just think as far as discipline wise, us being able to establish the run game, and then with Aaron Rodgers being able to hit our receivers, as far as Pittman, D.K. metcalf and our big tight ends with Fire, Move and Mount Washington, I Think it's going to be a balance to slip. Everybody's going to be able to execute on a high level where we're coming in and out of the huddle. We're actually having people off balance. Everybody knows what we're doing. Nobody's jumping off sides. So just when we see. When I look at Aaron Rodgers and I looked at Green Bay in the way offense was never the problem, they were always political offense, scoring points, running down the field. Dak Prescott Dallas Cowboys have always had an amazing offense. Being able to score points and move the ball and be able to do that. If our offense with the players that we have is disciplined and we're able to take those shots, being able to stay ahead of the sticks with our run game, being able to take advantage of Mount Washington and fire, move Fenton in the slots, our offense is going to be unbelievable. So I think that with Aaron Rodgers being able to be that, be still be the quarterback with everything above the neck when Tom Brady, when he's older, quarterbacks, you don't have to be fast or quick or run around. You need to be smart, you need to know where you're going. The execution of defenses are defense. But when you know what somebody's going to do when you're undressing them with your emotions and just being in a comfortable state, you're in attack mode, you're not worried about kind of what they're doing, they're trying to play on what you're doing. So I'm thinking with our offense, if we can just get run game established, we're not self inflicted wounds, no pre stat penalties, we're ahead of the sticks. It's just look, no turnovers. Aaron Rodgers not throwing over the ball. We're not just fumbling the rock. If they do get us off, we punt the ball and our defense goes out there, gets us in good field position. We play field position games, kick field goals when we need them. It's just going to be execution. I see it being at a very high level. When we talk about timing, that's everything. The receivers need to be at the right spot at the right time with the quarterback. Everybody's on the same page. You're not just working on this slant. You got to get off that slant because he expects you to be somewhere in a certain time marriage, none of that juicing on the line. No get to your spot because the ball is going to be there. So I'm just. When they're saying things, it's. Coaches make players so much better because you could already be a great player, but your coach is going to put you in a position to win and actually help you out like some coaches don't. There's nothing that you can give me as some cornerback coaches that I had, it's like, okay, you can tell me what to play, but like, what's my man that played the old safety that played corner Coach Cartwright. Coach, what's this? The corner he played. He was the. He played for the Steelers. And he was my coach, my first coach, his son.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Oh, you talking about Lake?
Joe Hayden
Yes, Lake. Lake.
Kohler Cast Iron Ambassador
If.
Joe Hayden
If compared to Lake and not Dyson, but compared to Scrapp, I'm getting knowledge to where he's helping me out. I got all the game I got. But, like, damn, he's putting me in a position where, boom. Joe, look at this. When you see this, three by one, he's giving me nuggets of game that other coaches just may not know. You know what I'm saying? So I'm like, Mike McCarthy, you've been in here for a long time. You know, nuggets. So now you and A Rod, y' all are talking the same language. You're telling your offensive players, everybody in this, the whole O line, the running backs, the linebackers, I mean, the tight ends, everybody knows where we need to be, what we need to do. We're. We're moving to the same drum. So I'm just loving everybody on the same page. And if they can do that, then, yes, Mike McCarthy, you're going to have our offense looking like it was when you were in Green Bay scoring points when you were in Dallas with Dak Prescott. The offense with him always looks good.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yeah, Joe. This is what I'm gonna do, Joe. I'm gonna go back to. To that. To that Rich Gannon. Okay, now. Okay. Mike McCarthy coached Rich Gannon. He was the quarterbacks coach, I believe, from 95 to 98 in Kansas City. So that was seven years into his career, as he said. And with him, with Gannon, you know, crediting, you know, Mike McCarthy would basically getting him to play and understand basically defenses, film study, preparation, you know, mentality of just playing the quarterback position.
Joe Hayden
Yeah.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
And then in, what was it, 20, 2001, 2002. Sorry, 2002, that man was NFL MVP. Gannon was NFL, like, so again, it goes to, you know, what, you know, Roger said, like, you know, it's an advantage of being in Mike McCarthy system is that you have to get to the line of scrimmage with plenty of time on the play clock so that you can read the covers, you can communicate with your receivers, you communicate with your O line, you can make your audibles. You know, I feel like that is something that if you go back to last year when you and I were talking and we found out that the receivers couldn't read the defense, like, we couldn't believe that, bro. We're sitting there like, how is that possible? That's like, when you play defense and you get the shallow crosser coming across and you go and you take it and you bite the cheese and you hit down on that crosser, they go, hit that deep crosser right behind you,
Joe Hayden
that dig right behind you.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Right. Like you're taught that. You know what I'm saying? Like, you have to be taught that to understand that. And when it's, you know, an inability of your receivers to read coverage, it's going to handicap your offense and it's going to handicap the quarterback, you know?
Tom Boger
Yeah.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Matter of fact, I ended up calling Ben and I'm like, hey, Ben, like, if your receivers can't read coverage or defense, like, how much does that hurt you? And he's like, you know, depending on, you know, different things, he's like, it can be detrimental. And then he's like, sometimes it don't matter because of, you know, whatever it's called. And how many times did we, you know, here, you know, where the quarterback is like, the receiver just. We just looked at each other. Why? Yeah, hey, you could look where he's like, yo, you see what I see? Because you're reading what I'm reading. I'm go hit you. And you keep going. But if your receivers can't read the defense and aren't being coached how to read it, you lose the ability to improvise and add another dimension to your offense. Dude, like, and this is what he's talking about. Like, it's timing based. And now it's in a premium on mental processing, which means it's a premium on what? Coaching. And now it's not just physical talents. The players can have the talent all they want, but if they aren't mentally capable, the player, he can't get it done because sometimes he's not being coached how to get it done. You can have the best players in the world and if they don't know what they're doing or, or how to do it, they go, they go look average. And I believe with the improvements McCarthy has made on the coaching staff, okay, we are going to see a greater improvement with success on our offense because Aaron Rodgers has a great Understanding of the offense. And now it has to be taught to the other guys so that they have a greater understanding. And through working together, the OTAs, you know, coming into training camp to get to work, they get to work on that timing, okay. You get to get an understanding and knowledge of everything else that he has. And now you get that look because you have players that can actually read what's going on. And you know, I'm not gonna lie, dude, I'm kind of, kind of excited to see how this rolls out. You know what I'm saying? And when you think about it, dude, like Pittman.
Joe Hayden
Go ahead.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
I think Pittman, I think Pittman could have the best year that he's had so far because he's a great route runner. He is a, he uses his body for positioning. He's a great like in traffic, he can catch that ball with his hands, you know, and he can read defense because he can find soft spots in zone coverage. When you're in zone coverage, your receivers, they can't keep running the same route they're supposed to run. They got to sit down because all
Joe Hayden
you go do is cross find that whole in the zone, sit down.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yeah. And then again, as you said, the usage of fryermouth, especially compared to what it was last year, that's going to go up. You add Washington to that. You add Mount Washington to that. And then because of those two, three guys right there, I think DK gonna have a good year as well now because you get him to get those, you know, those free one on one deep ball opportunities that allow him to use his strength, his speed.
Tab Ramos
Yes.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
His size over them de bees that's trying to cover it. How he man handling them one handed them all that like, dude, I'm like, I'm. I'm excited to see how.
Joe Hayden
Super excited about it because like you said too, this the thing. Once they get into that film room and they start studying the tape, they gotta know what's going on. Because if they're out there thinking that's when you start moving slow. Like you gotta know because that's what the guesswork is like. Oh no. Am I sure that this is what I need to be doing? No, no, no. We need to know what you're doing immediately because that's how you play fast. Like when you know what you're doing. You see dudes running around quick. When you see somebody take that little hesitation step, because it's like, I don't believe I know exactly where I'm going. So I'm still like Move around with a question mark. Like, no, no, no. We need you to know where we're going. Check in with a Rob.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Boom.
Joe Hayden
And now we're getting it. You know what I'm saying? Like that extra, that little slack, that slow steps. No, no, no. We need y' all to know.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yes, we need you to know. We need you to be coached to know what it is that you got to do so that when you get out there, it's done. It's not, oh, go out there and ball out. No motivation ain't gonna damn thing for me. I need knowledge. I need understanding.
Joe Hayden
I need you to execute.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yes. Like, come on, baby. That's what we need. Look here. I'm excited for it. Also, actual stadium has gotten a new grass surface. Precision turf announced on Wednesday that It's installing Tomahawk 31. Bermuda. Bermuda grass. Okay, okay.
Joe Hayden
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That. Bermuda. Got you.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yeah. Earlier. Earlier this year, Steelers Arter Stillers owner Art Rooney II acknowledged that the grass field, which drew an F minus in the annual NFLPA report cards, was. Would be replaced. He also left a door open to potentially switch to artificial surface. In the new version doesn't perform as intended. If the new version doesn't perform. Perform as intended. Joe. Joseph, what. What do you think of this? Do you think it will help? Do you. What do you think the changing of this would do?
Joe Hayden
Is this, this Bermuda grass? Debo, please. Is that. Is that regular grass?
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
That's the stuff that I believe is on golf course. You should know that, right, Joe?
Joe Hayden
Okay, yeah. I mean, yeah, Joe, here's the problem here.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Let me stop.
Joe Hayden
You used to wear cleats. You used to wear cleats on that.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yeah, here's the problem. I got you. I got you. Here's the problem, please. The biggest issue that we have is that it's too many games played on that surface, period. I don't care how many times you change the surface of that. It's not going to work. It's going to get terrible in that stadium because you have pit playing on that surface, you have us playing on that surface, and then you have the high school playoff games playing on that surface in November. Okay? So when you look at it, you got what they say, 25 games or more that are playing on that surface, and that's before we even get to the playoffs. Okay, so six months, you're saying you're talking about an average of six months, 25, something about an average of a game a week. Right? Okay. When that breaks down, it's not. It don't it don't seem bad. It don't seem bad. But some of these games are played back to back. Now you add into it weather, okay weather, rain. You're trying, you're talking about a surface that in like good conditions, like, you know, like Carolina, like Florida type conditions. When you play on that surface as a football team, NFL football team, it's seven days. It could be anywhere. It could be short as three, they said, but as long as seven for the recovery of the grass, because grass needs time to recover, just like the players. It's real, it's alive, it's growing. And that's in good weather. You're talking about August, you know, September, you know, October, early October. That's in good weather. Now you add into that bad weather, which we have a bunch of. Okay.
Joe Hayden
Oh, for sure.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
And it could take up to three to six weeks though, or longer if you have to actually resod the surface, which we do a lot of resoding to try and change the surface so

your podcasts, it has something to grip onto. Now, when you get into. What is that? That November time frame where you got all these high school games played on this surface, okay, the recovery time is limited. And on top of that, you got bad weather, it's November. Then you get into, what is it, December and January. They said the grass in that time, because of the weather, it's not even growing. They said it's dormant for the most part. So you're saying, you know, the damaged areas usually won't regrow until the spring. Bra. And that's why they rely on replacing sod rather than waiting for it to recover. Because it won't recover till the spring. Until the Steelers have their own stadium that only they play in, this will be a problem. It will continue to be a problem. Hell, and that don't even add the other events that they have at the stadium.
Joe Hayden
Yeah, the concerts.
Hoda Kotb
Right.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
It's not. Dude, it's not going to get any better. It's always good early in the year. And then as you get through the year, you start changing from your little speed cleats to your seven studs. You start changing from your seven stud half inch to your. To your 23 quarter inch.
Joe Hayden
Damn.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yep. And you just digging in dirt.
Joe Hayden
Why?
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Because everybody is tearing up the field. It's not having time to recover because there's too many things going on on the field. There's too many people playing on the field, and the field hasn't got time to recover. Playing and going to a artificial turf surface, that's the best thing as far as their USABILITY of it. But as far as the health and safety of the players, it should be grass. Yeah, break it down. It's simple. You gotta be able to have it to where it's just one team playing in there. Pittsburgh Steelers. We shouldn't be staring stadiums with a college team and all the high school teams, plus every other event that you got going on in there. You may be able to get away with the events that you got going on in there, you know what I'm saying? But you can't have that. You got 10, 12 games going on a week in, in. In November because of all these high school playoff games. And that's when it's the worst. Like, dude, we had a game where the ball just stuck into the ground when we was playing, bro. They tried to reside it, bro. We was playing against Miami, Punt just went boom. Half the ball was in the ground, the other half was sticking out straight up.
Joe Hayden
You just stre. You just speaking straight facts because the beginning of the season always starts. The fields are immaculate because the weather's good. You know what I'm saying? And then you start playing. And then once you start to get around the, like, December, these fields are trashed. And like you said, too, when people keep playing on it, it takes time for it to recover. When you start bringing out those seven studs towards the end of the season, you're not lying. I play corner and I would have to bring out them seven studs because I'm like, what I'm not going to do is slip because the grass is. Everybody you're playing in. Some of these spots are like dirt. You know what I'm saying? So it's a.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Some of it is actually sprayed green at times. You done seen it where it's sprayed green. You're like, dude, that's dirt on top of that.
Joe Hayden
No, that's dirt right there.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
That's dirt.
Joe Hayden
No, for sure. For sure. It is a fact of. We know, like, if it's too many people playing on the fields, like, that's what messes it up.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
It's a living, breathing surface. It needs time to recover from what we're doing to it. And when you have multiple sports, especially the number that we have going on, you cannot give it the time that's necessary. It needs to be one team playing on it. Pitt needs to find their own place, or the Steelers need to find their own place. The high school teams need to find somewhere else to do what they're doing. If we're going to have a surface that is dedicated to the player safety of the NFL players, which it should be.
Joe Hayden
Yep, I'm with you a thousand percent. We got to find a way to do it because like you said, when they. If it's a money. It's a money thing too, Deebo. When they're using those for like other events. So that's how I'm like, I understand it, but if we're always talking about, end of the day, you want the best product, because the main thing is, the main thing, if you really want it, like it's the football stadium for the Pittsburgh Steelers, so you want them to have the prime surface to be able to play on it all the time. So if that does mean Pitt, that's a big college, we need to get you a stadium. You know what I'm saying? Like the high school games, the state championship, we could do one in there like that. That's. That's. That's okay.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
But like, I don't think we should do that either. I don't think we should do that either. I think they should, they should. They should go ahead and use that at Pitt stadium.
Joe Hayden
Yeah. Yes. If Pitt had to. If Pitt has. Pitts get a stadium for sure.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Right, right. You take. You get a stadium for Pitt for them by themselves. You take all that extra stuff away. And if you want to still be able to use the service to, you know, do other things, then you can find a way to try and put things down to protect it or whatever it may.
Joe Hayden
Pit might got to do turf.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Hey, hey, like I said, I don't know.
Joe Hayden
I don't know. Something got to give. Something got to give.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Listen, so something got to give, man. Hey, it's about player safety, man. You need just get two grass fields, man. You know what I'm saying? I don't. I mean, making it so difficult, Debo.
Joe Hayden
Yeah. Everybody acting like they don't have no
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
bread for no grass. I mean, and like I said, I could see like high school level and all that. It's a big difference with. Between trying to take care of a high school field and what you're doing there and all that other stuff. I can see. I can see turf on that. But make sure you get good quality turf. Nothing that's gonna, you know, be detrimental, you know, to the kids health. I can understand that. But you're talking about professional athletes, you're talking about billion dollar corporations, and we're talking about playing on the turf to save, you know, a couple hundred thousand or a couple million dollars. And you're talking about. You're Making billions stop.
Joe Hayden
Yeah. The turf for high schools and colleges. I mean, I mean the high schools. That's because just wear and take. It's going to be. It'll last a lot longer than.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Last a lot longer.
Joe Hayden
Be able to go take care of the. Take care of the grass to keep it the way. But like we're talking about NFL, these groundskeepers, that's what they do. They're professionals to keep this grass perfect.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
For sure, brother. For sure. Let's go on over here to Cleveland, man. Because it's an NFL scout that predicts Browns to start Shador Sanders in Week 1. NFL Scout said Cleveland needs to figure out what it has in Sanders. They already know what Watson is and it hasn't been good. Even if he were to bounce back from the Achilles injury, Watson isn't a long term option for the Browns. Personally, I think Shador would give. Would be given the starting job. They are going to need to make a decision in the 2027 NFL Draft about whether or not they need to pursue a quarterback. Given Shador, giving Sanders a full season will be the best way to figure out that answer. Joseph?
Joe Hayden
Yes, brother.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
What do you. What do you think it is, what do you think about the. The prediction by an NFL scout?
Joe Hayden
The prediction of he. That he's saying it's a prediction that I would. That I want it to happen. My most likely scenario.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Why would you want that to happen, Joe?
Joe Hayden
Why would I? Yeah, Because I think that I know Deshaun Watson. He's not the future for the Cleveland Browns. We drafted Shador Sanders last season. Dylan Gabriel also. We had him. Dylan Gabriel had his chance to play. I don't think he's going to be a starting quarterback in this league. So now we have Shador Sanders. He looked like there's a potential for him in my opinion to be a starting quarterback. So now with the new pieces that we have on this team, let's in the line, let's give him a valid shot with the new coach to see if he's going to be the guy or we need to go move on and get another quarterback in the future. Because I know desean isn't going to be the one right now. I know because from what we have.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Well, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe. Early on you said you thought DeShawn would be the starter, though.
Joe Hayden
Because I'm saying because of the owner and because of they evaluate because they invested the money into him. If it's me, I've always said from my perspective, I wanted Shador Sanders to be the Starting quarterback. But if DeSean Watson is the starting quarterback, I'm rooting for him. I want the best. And I know why they're doing it because they owe him a lot of. Because they paid him a whole lot of money and they want to get something out of their investment. And hopefully if he's healthy, he's been doing everything the right way so they would want to give him the shot. That's what I'm seeing for me, I'm rocking with Shador still because he's younger. We've already given desean the money. He's already been out there to give us the opportunity to see what he can do. He hasn't. Wasn't playing that well, in my opinion. So now I'm going to go with my younger, cheaper quarterback to see what
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
about wanting to win? What if he gives you a better opportunity to win now?
Joe Hayden
You know that's what I'm saying during training camp.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
I'm thinking that Shadora, I mean, not Shadora, sorry, I'm talking about Watson.
Joe Hayden
Watson, you think he'd give a better chance to win?
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
What if he gives you a better opportunity to win now? You know what I'm saying?
Joe Hayden
I'm looking at it. We still have training camp. They're still in a legitimate quarterback battle. I'm hearing what people are saying sometimes, like desean is, oh, you're hearing good from him one day, then you hearing that Shador may be playing a lot, playing better. So it's just, you know how that goes. We still got training camp, we still have off. I mean, what's it called? Off season, Not a preseason game.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Preseason.
Joe Hayden
So they.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Training camp.
Joe Hayden
Training camp and preseason. So they both have to go out there and still play and perform. And I'm thinking if Shador still is doing how I think, getting better in the pocket, making better decisions, knowing what's going on, knowing the whole entire offense being really in tuned. I'm thinking that he's going to come out there and perform and maybe beat him out in training camp and in preseason. So if this happens, I think Shador will be the starting quarterback and then we're going to see if that's going to be the. If he's going to be the quarterback for the future. Like give him a real shot with a real line with some real weapons and a coach Monkin, that's a good coach. Let's see that. That believes in him. That said that he would have drafted him before. So let me see what's going on and then I can really give A good chance to be like Shador. Okay.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
No, you.
Joe Hayden
You're doing good, you're doing bad. You're throwing these picks. I can really get a chance to evaluate him with talent around him, with. With a good team and. And reps like, now, I don't. I don't have no excuse for Shador not to look good if he's making these passes, if he's just spinning around in the pocket, taking unnecessary sacks. That's on you, Shador. Wow. I'm. I'm be like, dang, take a step back. You got it. You got some growing, you know what I'm saying? So I'm gonna be able to watch the tape and see what's going on. But from last season with the team that we had and the weapons that he was playing with, I don't want to give him another shot with some fresh weapons, with a coach that believes in him, and let's go see what he can do, because it was only his first. His rookie season, one year, you know what I'm saying? Now you got an off season. Rookie season is a big time. You're a quarterback now. You're learning. You did everything you had to do during off season. Let me see what you can do. So that's where I'm at with. I think that Shador can do it. I think he will win the job. But if. If they were to end up to go with desean, it would have to be because he obviously won the job and they picked.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
So for me, personally, the way y' all are moving in my mind, as the GM or the head coach, I would vocally say that it's a competition. Okay. I would put that out there because I don't want anybody thinking.
Joe Hayden
I think Monkey said that.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Right? That's what. That's what I would do. But.
Joe Hayden
But.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Okay, here's. Here's. Here's. Here's where I'm. I'm at with the whole Shador being the starter. I'm cool with giving him opportunity, but I'm. I'm reverse back to. To the thought process of where I'm going with it is that building for the future. Okay? And that's what you guys are supposed to be trying to do. So when they first came out with this, Watson is in the lead for being the starting quarterback. That made no sense to me unless they were trying to motivate Shador. Now, that would make sense if you want to put that out there to motivate him, to try and get some drive into him, because he ain't the kind of dude that's gonna curl up into a ball when the shit gets heavy. He gonna go ahead. He gonna go out there and he go produce. So I can understand that concept. But again, you are building for the future, so you have to see what you have. That's the whole reason you traded Miles Garrett, is so that you can start building, get draft picks for the future. So why are you trying to, you know, hold on to a quarterback that, you know, no matter what happens, you're not going to pay him again next year, no matter what level he plays at this year, Unless he goes mvp, which you already said he is. Not without saying that he's not. Because you said you don't have a clear starter going into training camp. So unless you're going to start doing round things in Browning, in the process of making your decisions, you have to give one of these young guys, starting with Shador. You gave Dylan his starting with Shador and, and maybe even the other quarterback. I told you. What is it? Green over there giving him an opportunity to see what it is that he can do. I just don't see Watson being the person that they should even give a chance to. Because you're building for the future, and the future is not him, no matter what happens with him. So why would I give him that opportunity unless I'm just trying to get some motivation out of my younger guys to drive them hard? That's what. That's just what I'm thinking.
Joe Hayden
Debo, I think we, me and you on the same page. I'm hoping at the same time, desean, being a coach, if he's looking good and he's looking solid, you never want to knock down somebody that you have on your roster. So if you backup, good, veteran backup, it's competition, it's valid competition. So I think it's a really legit quarterback competition. But what you're saying is correct. We're building for the future. We got rid of Miles, we drafted a quarterback in the draft, and he actually won three games out of four fours. So now let's see if we. Let's. Let's see if he is the one. Because if not, we already are planning for the future. Let's see if this quarterback is our future quarterback or he's not. Because we know DeSean Watson isn't. Because just we already gave him the bag. And no matter. Kind of 230, it's already gone. I know they don't want to do that again. They're not going back through that show Ship. So let's see who we have on our roster. Shador and then Green. But I'm thinking it should let. Let him play. Let's see. Let's see how it goes.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
Yeah, I'm. You know, no, I'm. You know, like I said, I'm a thought process, you know, I'm back, I'm back. I'm back looking at it again. I'm like, yo, they. They gassing everything up. They gassing everything up, man. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe Barry is just gassing it up to try and get the best out of Shador. Oh, you might be traded. They talking about trade and all this other stuff, you know what I'm saying? All this, they ain't never really talked about. I just need to put some noise out there, you know what I'm saying? Just. Yeah, just in case, you know what I'm saying? Because, you know, ain't nobody about to pick up that contract for Watson, you know what I'm saying? Maybe I'll give him some little motivation, make him think he about to get up out of here, you know what I'm saying? You got to come in here and win this thing. I'm putting you in a spot where. You got to come in here and training camp and make sure you put your best foot forward.
Joe Hayden
I can't wait. Yeah. Yeah.
Deebo (James Debo Harrison)
It's gonna be. It's gonna be nice to see. But y' all still. Y' all still gonna be sitting, you know, dead last. I ain't gonna. You know, I ain't gonna lie to you about it, you know, but that's just, you know, that's the way. That's the way we gonna see it. Brick by brick. Brick by brick y' all gonna be getting.
Joe Hayden
