Greg Lott
You talked about this recently regarding, like, the Yana situation. You say the grass might always be greener. I love to have that conversation with you here. Cause I know T talked about that, his old teammate. You know, the landscape of the NBA. You know, people always talk about moving around and stuff, but some of these stars is like, you might as well just be where you at and just make it your own.
Dwight Howard
Yeah, man, one of the craziest things I think I did was just leaving Orlando, not knowing what I had until it was really gone and not seeing, like when you go somewhere else, you really in somebody else shit. And you think you can come over there and take it, but nah, it ain't like that. So, you know, being in Orlando, I ain't realized I'm young as hell, man. 22 in the finals, you know what I'm saying? 22, one of the best players already. MVP and all that stuff talk. And I ain't know what I was doing down there, you know what I'm saying? So I just tell Giannis, man, you are Milwaukee.
Host
That's what I'm saying.
Dwight Howard
Where's you going? You know what I'm saying? Ain't nothing else gonna hit right after that, you know what I'm saying? So I just think his best bet is to just stay put. I mean, they add pieces around him, you know what I'm saying? So it ain't the other way around. He don't need to go nowhere else and try to figure it out. They gonna bring whatever he. And he already won. He already won. What else do you gotta do? He gonna get his if he stays, he gonna get a statue. The Nasses will get a statue.
Greg Lott
If he stays right now, the Nasrs.
Dwight Howard
Will get up for a coaching job.
Host
Swear to God.
Dwight Howard
For real, he need to stay, man. Like, I understand wanting to leave and playing with these guys and chasing the ring, but for real, like, that's the one thing I don't like, and I wish I didn't do it, was chase after a ring. You know what I'm saying? Going to teams, trying to figure it out. So I would say, you gotta stay home, stay put.
Host
Nah. Cause when you was in Orlando, I tell everybody you was the most dominant player, and it was like you was joking with people. Like, we had four. We had four or five bigs for you. We had all these old teams.
Dwight Howard
E. Thomas, Josh Powell, Jason Collins. Jason Collins. One of the grants with the low.
Host
Yeah, yeah, we had a bunch of people. We had Al Horbitron, Zaza.
Greg Lott
So that's how Patriot.
Host
Yeah, we had a whole squad to stop you. In my rookie year, y' all beat us by, like, 40 or a game. But our second year, y' all did in the playoffs, y' all beat us.
Dwight Howard
By, like, 40 with Gilbert then, right?
Host
Nah, we beat y' all with Gil. Yeah, but y' all. First year, I think y' all had he do.
Dwight Howard
Oh, y' all did.
Host
Yeah. We had, like, the biggest margin of victory in, like, NBA history against y' all. Y' all like, Woody was the coach. We was getting our ass beat. Then the next year, we played y' all, and we was like, we gonna let Dwight score 50 in the first game? You had, like, 36 in the first quarter, like, in the first half. And I'm like, hey, man, this nigga might really score 50, y' all. They like, nah, it's cool. It's cool. We gotta eliminate the threes. But I was just telling people how dominant you were. Like, it was crazy. You couldn't get a layup. Like, I used to shoot floaters at the top of the rack board. And he would be just laughing like, don't come back in here. Don't go.
Dwight Howard
Let him go.
Host
Let him go.
Greg Lott
Hey, let him go.
Host
I'm like, man, what the fuck? Jameer and them just let you go to the basket. He'll block.
Greg Lott
He was a cheat code.
Dwight Howard
It was fun as hell, man. And I think people took me laughing and joking as not taking the game serious. But I practiced so hard. I worked so hard outside of the games before the game started, that by the time we got playing, I'm like, man, this Is fun going out there, dominating, dunking, blocking shots, doing all that I'm doing. This is fun. Cause I done put in all the hard work, so now it's really a show. That's how I'm taking it. Like, man, I'm finna put on the show. We got all these fans, they ain't never seen me play live. I'm finna go crazy. I'm finna block a shot, smile, talk some trash to the. You know, I didn't mean no harm by it. It's just. I just had so much passion about playing.
Host
Nah, you was dominant, bro. I' ma always give you your flyers on that. That shit was crazy.
Dwight Howard
I think Gilbert had brought it up.
Host
On the pod when they played Atlanta. His stats was like crazy.
Dwight Howard
Like 40.
Greg Lott
Like 40.
Dwight Howard
Oh, we played against Atlanta? Yeah, 35. Whatever.
Host
Oh, yeah. It's like he had something against us. That's what I was about to ask.
Greg Lott
Being from Atlanta, what was it?
Dwight Howard
I did one. I was mad cause I wanted to play in Atlanta, you know what I'm saying? So I was like, man, they ain't even. I'm from Atlanta. They could have drafted me. But then it was just like I wanted to beat the Hawks. Cause every game I saw somebody that I knew from growing up talking trash and they cheering for the Hawks. I was like, man, I gotta. And the Hawks, I had like 5 bigs too. I wanted to destroy every single big. Like that was my whole mission.
Clayton English
Yeah, they didn't have no chance to dominate.
Host
Nah, they didn't have no choice.
Clayton English
They didn't have no chance.
Dwight Howard
So that was y' all whole game plan to let me score?
Host
Yeah. That second time we played, we beat y' all. My second year. The first year, y' all blew us out. But my second year they was like, let Dwight kill and you was killing shit. But nobody else was really scoring like that. Cause we was just staying at home and you was just playing one on one. It was killing. Well, I don't know. We figured it out. Jamal had a big series.
Dwight Howard
Smart ass game player.
Host
Yeah, that's what it was.
Clayton English
For real.
Dwight Howard
Cause I'm like, man, I could keep cooking, but then my teammates wasn't as involved as year before. Yeah, that one good.
Host
When you played with Atlanta, you wasn't on that team? Nope. I left the Yuri camp. Damn.
Dwight Howard
Yeah, that would have been fire.
Host
Yeah.
Clayton English
What did you hit the weight room when you got to the league? Cause what kind of plane was you on?
Dwight Howard
I did. I was skinny.
Clayton English
I couldn't.
Dwight Howard
I tried to lift weights. Before I got to the league, my regiment, before I got to the league was I was waking up. It was every day in high school, I was waking up. 4am, going to the track, then weight room, then the gym. But I couldn't gain no weight. None of that stuff happened. Then when I got to the league, I started doing Olympic lifting with our trainer in Orlando.
Michael Kasson
And.
Dwight Howard
I would say after the first year is what hit me, I started playing against the guys that was big and strong. And I was like, man, I'm not gonna get pushed around no more. So I just started lifting and eating weights. Then I got too big.
Clayton English
I got too high.
Dwight Howard
Yeah. I went and got a weight room at my house. And every day I'm doing the bench press. I'm trying to get my bench right. I'm like, man, I gotta get close to 500. And the next year, that was trying.
Greg Lott
To get my right.
Dwight Howard
Nigga, you bitching.
Host
500.
Dwight Howard
I tried to get the 500. Yeah.
Host
I'm like, man.
Dwight Howard
Yeah, my shoulders, the bench press we was trying to. Was doing thousand push ups every day, nigga.
Clayton English
No wonder then. Cause I'm like, they shot Dwight with that strongest shit. It was like 220 or something. In high school.
Dwight Howard
In high school, I was 185. Then I got up to 220, 224. And then when I got to the league, they got me all the way up to 265, 270.
Host
That's crazy.
Clayton English
That's crazy.
Greg Lott
That's big, though, and that's crazy. Cause, like, they always compare, like you and Yan said, situations like when y' all first came into the league and did like a couple years.
Dwight Howard
I can see that.
Greg Lott
Yeah, y' all, Y' all became fucking monsters.
Dwight Howard
I could see that. I think that he was. He is a like Dwight Howard with that could play with handles and, you know, being able to go full court and all that stuff. In my era, they weren't allowing the bigs to do that. And he had just came in at the right time where he could play one on one as a five, full court, bring the ball down. I remember playing in Orlando, the coach was telling every time I dribbled the ball, he'd tell them to come take it, don't dribble. So that's the only thing I could do was the jump hooks and dunk the ball.
Greg Lott
That's crazy. And the Atlanta team, we always give y' all credit and y' all flowers because y' all were early. Y' all set the trend like that. Especially in this era, y' all would.
Dwight Howard
Have dominated with the threes. The keep the floor space with the threes.
Greg Lott
Come on, man. He talked to Blue as the de facto point guard at 6 9.
Host
Ryan Anderson.
Dwight Howard
Ryan Anderson shooting threes.
Greg Lott
Nothing but threes.
Dwight Howard
Crazy. Nobody talk about how Jameer played, man, but Jameer was cold, man.
Host
It's cold.
Dwight Howard
His, the way he shot the ball, it was underrated. I don't think people really talked about him. I think after he hurt his shoulder that year. But then having the two OG point guards, Skip Tamalu and Anthony Johnson. Aj yeah, we used to call him no Neck.
Clayton English
That's crazy.
Dwight Howard
Anthony no Neck Johnson. That was my dog. He was one of my favorite point guards. And every time in the game when he got in trouble, he'd just be like Dwight and throw the ball up for a lob. I'd be like, dawg, just anytime you get in trouble, just throw that bitch.
Host
Up to the rim.
Dwight Howard
I go get it.
Greg Lott
That's a hell of a. Don't talk about that team too. Like you said, Jamer Nelson was doing his thing for sure. Skip to my little hooping. He just hooped like it was N1. He didn't care.
Dwight Howard
He didn't care.
Clayton English
How was that playing with him, bro?
Dwight Howard
Man, that was so much fun. He was one of my all time favorites because I used to watch. I grew up watching N1.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Dwight Howard
So like seeing him on and one and then actually being on his team, I'm like, yo, this is sick, yo. Like, this is really skipped to my loop.
Clayton English
Nah facts.
Dwight Howard
He was one of the coldest, man. But he though was one of my craziest teammates. It was cold and coldest. 610 can shoot anywhere on the floor. Post up, he got handles. I think the NBA back then was such a. Like, I can't. I don't want to hate on the guys now that's playing. But I feel like we was our era. Like that era was really nice.
Host
It was a good time. I mean, I think it was a lot of cold people. And I think like the best players to hoop was in that era. Like all of y' all are like hall of Famers.
Dwight Howard
Just think about the names of the era. You talking about the dirt and the whiskeys, the kgs, the Tim Duncan, you got Maury Stoudemire, you got LeBron, you got all Melo. The era that we had here, like.
Host
That was like, say it was all like hall of Famers.
Dwight Howard
It's probably one of the coldest eras of basket and the basketball back Then was so hard because now the floor is spaced out so you getting all these points. But back then, everybody boxes and elbows. It's hard to score. It's hard to get 20 points a game in that league. But then only 10 people. It was only 10 people scoring 20 points. So you see how cold the league was back then.
Greg Lott
Yeah, yeah. And you talk about the spacing. There was no spacing. They had traditional power forwards and traditional fives, and they wasn't shooting threes none.
Host
Until they got them. When they start putting Rashar Lewis and Ryan Anderson out there.
Dwight Howard
Rashad Lewis was one of the first ones. I think it was Rashad. Rasheed Lewis too. Cause we kind of got that from the Pistons. See, Detroit beat us two years in a row in the playoffs when I first got into the league. Rasheed Lewis. Rasheed Wallace. Rasheed Wallace. That's what I meant to say. Rasheed. Wait.
Greg Lott
Yeah, I said Rashid. Sorry about me.
Dwight Howard
Name. Debo.
Host
Stall me out, stall me out.
Dwight Howard
But Rasheed Wallace, I would say, how Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace and then the guys they had on they team, they kind of gave us the blueprint of what we needed to do to be successful. Like, I need to change my mentality to be a beast in the paint. So watching and playing against guys like Ben Wallace, Jason Maxiel, Rasheed Wallace, Antonio Mendice, this is all on the Pistons team. So that team right there, the league can blame them for me wanting to get in the weight room and wanting to like go after people. Because for two years straight they bullied us, man. Damn. They bullied us. And we couldn't beat them in the playoffs our regular season. Damn.
Clayton English
Nah, that was crazy.
Greg Lott
Shout out to that Pistons team. Jason Maxill and Ben Wild Aska are crazy front court.
Dwight Howard
And I'm sure people forgetting about Rasheed Wallace.
Host
Yo, people get how strong Antonio McDyess was.
Greg Lott
I think I'm strong as shit.
Clayton English
And he had.
Greg Lott
I think the nuggets was getting buckets.
Clayton English
He was cold.
Dwight Howard
He was cold.
Clayton English
But Jason Maxill was. What's he, like, six? Six?
Dwight Howard
Jason Maxill, six' three with a. With a eight foot three.
Host
Yeah.
Dwight Howard
Long as head, long ass arm, looking like a ninja Turtle.
Greg Lott
For the youngest who don't know y' all talking about. What's my name? Isaiah up in Detroit.
Dwight Howard
Nah, Jason Maxim was original chasing facts. Y' all see that video? Him chasing the dude in China?
Host
China, bro. He was trying to kill that boy.
Dwight Howard
He would have killed that man.
Host
He was trying to kill that kill.
Greg Lott
Hey, that overseas basketball get different for sure. Man.
Host
Yo.
Dwight Howard
Oh, God, man. It was sometimes over there I wanted to scrap.
Greg Lott
Tell you why you cannot fight. They would have canceled your fe. You threw a guy over there.
Dwight Howard
Me, I remember the guy that you threw.
Host
No, don't worry about that.
Dwight Howard
He just talking shit.
Clayton English
Yeah, we going fast.
Greg Lott
They gonna be in comments, be like, yep, this one right here.
Clayton English
Yeah, TikTok gonna find y' all.
Host
That's all.
Dwight Howard
But in China, we did get no Taiwan. We got into a. My team got into a fight. I got kicked out the game. I didn't even fight.
Clayton English
Damn.
Dwight Howard
I was on the bench. That was the one time I actually did do nothing to deserve a take. So it was pretty intense.
Host
We gotta get you overseas, man.
Greg Lott
Over me?
Dwight Howard
Yeah.
Host
Ah, it's probably over for me. 10 days. 10 days. I could do 10 days. How about I say T a T?
Dwight Howard
Yeah, 10 days, man. I started a league over in Asia a couple years ago after my first year in Taiwan. And reason being is a lot of guys who've played in the NBA or tried to make it to the NBA once, they don't make it or something like that, they usually tend to just be like, fuck it, you know what I'm saying? Go down the rabbit hole of why they played or whatever. And I really wanted to give a lot of guys opportunities to hoop across the water. The international game, the international love, international money, it's all out there. I feel like sometimes we just put ourselves in a box. If we don't make it here, then that's the end. All be all. So we started the league three years ago, and it's been booming, man. We got boogie played. Boogie came and played in it. Quinn Cook came and played. We got a guy, 7 foot 7, that was playing in the league for a couple years now. But we got about eight, nine teams. The league is.
Clayton English
Where your boy at From Boston. That was on the pod. Big talk. Nick can't wear Taco.
Dwight Howard
Taco fall. He was about to come actually. He was about to come actually and play over there. He went to mainland China and played, but.
Greg Lott
Shout out to Taco.
Dwight Howard
Shout out to Taco Man. I remember watching him at ucf. He and UCF stand for, you can't finish. He was at the right school. He could not finish in the paint. I'm like, Bro, you7 taco bro.
Host
He got taco fried.
Greg Lott
They supposed to be Duke. They got cheated.
Host
They did get cheated.
Dwight Howard
I love Taco man for real. Just to see his real progress. Like, he came into the league, he was not that skilled as he is now. He done got so much better. And he dunk. I know he's 7 foot 5 6, but he dunking on niggas like he ain't playing around. So shout out to Taco Man.
Greg Lott
It's always funny. Like, you see, like, NBA players outside the NBA. Cause we always talk about, like, the Mitchell Robinson highlights. I'm about him not hitting free throws, but he pulling up a transition threes in the summer. Taco Funk got a crazy summer mix up. He out there putting pats on niggas and shit.
Host
I said, damn, I gotta check this shit out.
Dwight Howard
It's different. I think it's different in the league. Sometimes you get. They give you a role or, like, man, you playing against really the best of the best. So defense gonna be on point. Guys is gonna be really ready to lock you down, whatever it may be. But when you go overseas or something like that, you get the green light. You trying anything, you gonna look like Mitchell Robinson. He got the green light when he out there playing in the park or whatever he's at. So shoot, I do the same thing, for sure.
Clayton English
At what point in your career did you, like, figure out, like, you was the one in the NBA? Like, when did you feel like, all right, I can start taking over and leading my team?
Dwight Howard
I would say my damn third year, third, fourth year. Then we went to the finals. And then I would say going to the Olympics, too, man. There's so many different situations. Playing the Olympic team, starting on the Olympic team. That's when I'm like, man, I'm one of these guys. I'm here with Kobe Braun, Jason Kidd, Melo. You know, I'm starting with these guys. The league was just so crazy back then. Just to be mentioned with Kobe and Bronx.
Clayton English
I was in them MVP talks.
Host
Yeah, he ruined the commercial. The they folks had that finals.
Greg Lott
Come on. I know Adidas loved you for that, boy.
Host
You fucked up a whole Nike. Yeah.
Dwight Howard
Oh, you talk about the.
Host
They had the puppets and shm.
Dwight Howard
I made my own puppet. Hell, I still got him at the crib.
Host
Since you brought up mvp, I know that Derrick Rose.
Dwight Howard
What you said he was number two that year. Derrick Rose got it.
Host
So everybody in the comments, like, man, you wasn't getting that shit over D. Rose. What y' all think? Nah, you wasn't getting that shit over D. Rose.
Dwight Howard
All hell to Dwight what happened that year. Why he should have got it, bro.
Host
He had that Bulls team rocking, bro. He was number one. And you had to go. You had to go. Yeah, he fucked up.
Dwight Howard
They had a whole they had Boozer.
Clayton English
They had a good team.
Dwight Howard
They had a good squad. It wasn't just.
Clayton English
You did, too.
Host
Nah, it was just him.
Dwight Howard
It was not him.
Host
You know what I mean? Lu Aldean, when he got hurt.
Dwight Howard
Boozer, they good.
Host
They good players. But it was all because of Poodle. Like, Pooh made the engine like he was injured. If they had him, bro, it wasn't even.
Greg Lott
And he had the city cracking. I think that that goes to the effect. To his effect of being at the crib and pulling the Bulls back up like that.
Host
Yeah, same thing with the Magic.
Dwight Howard
We did the same thing.
Host
No, I ain't saying you did.
Clayton English
You did. Yo, you did your big one, bro. But that. That.
Host
That was crazy, bro.
Dwight Howard
In Chicago.
Host
Yeah.
Clayton English
It's just a better market. He was just exciting. He was a small guard, bro. And they like, bro said, bro, they was number one bro in the league. They was.
Host
That's good that y' all said that. So Shay or Jokic this year?
Greg Lott
This year it's gotta be Shay.
Clayton English
You asked them?
Host
Yeah, Shay's gonna win. Jokic is the mvp.
Greg Lott
Jokic having. But last year they told Shay that he has to do more and he should got MVP last year. He should have got them the best work in the league.
Host
He should have mvp.
Greg Lott
He has to get. We know that. Joker's the best player in the league. Nobody gonna argue that. Yeah, but this sga, first big to.
Clayton English
Average a triple double, though.
Host
That shit, bro.
Greg Lott
He's one of Dakotas. He's one of the best centers of all time. There's no question.
Host
Facts.
Greg Lott
But SGA gotta get the mvp, bro. They out of pocket.
Host
He gonna win mvp.
Dwight Howard
He got to.
Host
But D. Rose that year, bro, like, people had to link up to beat him.
Clayton English
Yeah, he wasn't beating the Magic, who.
Host
They made to the Easy conference finals when they got hurt. When he got hurt, though, they still was number one. Like the next year, I think. Nah, hell nah.
Dwight Howard
I think that that's when Jimmy Butler had.
Clayton English
He probably with Jordan, left the Bulls. Yeah.
Host
They weren't number one in the east, though.
Dwight Howard
Still topping the East.
Host
They was still top 10. I mean. Cause Nate Robinson was hooping that year and shit. But it wasn't the same, bro.
Clayton English
I mean, take you off the Orlando Magic team.
Host
They ass, too. Not ass, but they would.
Dwight Howard
Damn, my team was cold, man.
Host
If you don't. Who was y' all backup center?
Dwight Howard
He was a great backup. Shout out to Marcine, man.
Host
Yeah, he was good.
Greg Lott
Was up for a minute. They had a crazy pick, man.
Dwight Howard
That little what they call that? Pick and roll?
Host
The Gore Test Screen.
Dwight Howard
He got his own screen name. That's. That's cold now.
Clayton English
Yeah.
Dwight Howard
To be in the league and have a. A screen or whatever name after you, that's pretty tough.
Greg Lott
Yeah, he was clothesline niggas on the screen.
Host
You think you should have got the MVP over D. Rose?
Dwight Howard
I'm gonna be. Yeah. I mean, I can't say that. I thought that was my year. I thought that was my year. I mean, obviously, you know, I ain't gonna never hate on D. Rose. Cause that's my dog. He's been with Adidas. You know, that's when we first started, you know, kicking a little bit.
Clayton English
Yeah.
Dwight Howard
But he. I was like, dang. I thought that was my year, bro.
Greg Lott
I thought that was our year. You know what's crazy? I think. And this is obviously a crazy hypothetical, if you did that in Atlanta, they would have gave you the vp. I think the city effect that he had obviously played phenomenal. But the way that he brought that city up and that support behind him was so crazy, they was damn near, like, undeniable. Because that was a basketball city at Ms. Jordan, and they just like, oh, we got the next he from here. He our savior type shit. And didn't have. He was killing either.
Host
So what was the biggest snub MVP snubbed to y' all? It gotta be.
Dwight Howard
It gotta be.
Host
Steve Nas got the piece.
Dwight Howard
I think that, too. I was gonna say that one.
Greg Lott
Yeah. That's tough.
Clayton English
Yeah, that's a tough question.
Dwight Howard
I had to think the biggest snub.
Greg Lott
Shaq could have got one of them.
Host
Shaq could have won.
Dwight Howard
I was gonna say the Shaq and the Kobe one.
Host
Yeah. Shaq or Kobe should have got them.
Clayton English
MVPs, but Shaq should have won every.
Greg Lott
Year, say, every year.
Host
Damn near the early 2000s, bro.
Dwight Howard
Every year you should have won MVP.
Clayton English
Early 2000s. Yeah. For him to only have one is.
Host
Out of pocket, and Kobe only got one.
Dwight Howard
Why you only think he got one?
Clayton English
I don't know, bro. Cause it's bullshit.
Host
Cause Jokic about to have four and. But he really killed in the playoffs, though. Yeah.
Dwight Howard
Was he killing the regular season?
Greg Lott
He killed, but, I mean, the documentary came out. He was coasting until it was time to kill.
Host
Yeah, he killed in the playoffs.
Greg Lott
He was still Shaq. He gonna get 25 and 10.
Clayton English
I mean, which. I know who I am, though, bro. Shaq. Yeah. Cause I mean, shit, they don't give you the MVP till, what, damn near the finals.
Host
But it's for the season though.
Dwight Howard
It's for they. What is the actual rules on it? Cause it seemed like every year switch up.
Clayton English
Thank you, Dwight.
Greg Lott
It's supposed to be second season announcing the postseason, but everybody feels way. So we be like, all right, if the MVP losing the first round, he might not get mvp.
Dwight Howard
They need to switch all that up.
Host
Yeah.
Clayton English
And the qualifications of it just. I think it should be the who the most important player on the team. Like if we take this off the team, how good would this team be? Realistically, I think that's how the MVP should be.
Host
I mean, but that's every team though. Nah, bro, that mean everybody gonna have them there. MVP candidate.
Clayton English
Nah, nah.
Host
If your team is like top five.
Clayton English
But I'm saying like y. Jokic, however you said his name.
Dwight Howard
Joker.
Clayton English
Joker. Take him off the team, bro. They. They mid, bro.
Host
But you take.
Clayton English
If you take Jason Tatum off the.
Host
Celtics, you take Jalen Brunson off the Knicks.
Clayton English
They playoffs.
Host
Hell no.
Greg Lott
No, it's quiet.
Dwight Howard
He said it's curtains for him.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Host
No disrespect to Campaign. Campaign is the point guard for the Knicks right now. They. They. They out Campaign.
Dwight Howard
The strongest left handed. Yeah, he's so left handed. He's crazy.
Greg Lott
I need you from his ankle.
Dwight Howard
Yesterday.
Host
Yesterday when Jalen got fouled out, who's over?
Greg Lott
Yeah, bro, it's. I think you gotta. I think you should at least be maybe top three seed. Cause I mean y' all not gonna get nobody MVP that's averaging 30 in that 17 seed.
Host
Yeah, I mean Jokic won it one year.
Dwight Howard
That was like the six. He was like the six.
Host
They gave MVP to players.
Dwight Howard
That team wasn't top five.
Greg Lott
It rarely happened. But I mean the way that he dominated was undeniable too at that time. Period.
Clayton English
So I think KG could have got it a couple. Couple more times too, bro.
Dwight Howard
In Minnesota.
Clayton English
Yeah. KG used to kill in Minnesota. They just wasn't winning.
Host
He got it at the time he needed to get it.
Clayton English
They just wasn't winning, bro.
Greg Lott
Amps are just really hard to come by.
Host
I gotta ask you. Cause you played with Brian, you played with Kobe. Like what was the difference between them two? Like Kobe.
Dwight Howard
Kobe's an asshole. Not saying he's an asshole to me. I'm just saying like his personality, like he a asshole.
Host
Like he don't give a fuck.
Dwight Howard
Yeah, Bron give a fuck. He want everybody to like him. He want to joke around, laugh, have a good time. I just think they two ends of the spectrum when it comes to their personalities and on the court. Kobe's just trying to get 50. He's trying to kill who you think.
Host
Who you think was better.
Dwight Howard
Shit, scoring wise, you gotta go with Kobe.
Greg Lott
How, though?
Host
And Bron got the most points in league history.
Dwight Howard
Cause he played for the longest and he getting dunks and layups.
Greg Lott
I'm talking about that scoring, though.
Dwight Howard
It is scoring. It is scoring. But I'm saying, like, as far as getting buckets, like all the way around, I'll be.
Host
How we get buckets. If you can't stop me, get to the basketball.
Clayton English
He. Listen, don't fall into that, Dwight.
Host
I'm just saying. I think. I think Bron the best scorer all time.
Clayton English
Bron is the best scorer in different spots, though. Kobe could get to it better than Brian.
Host
I ain't got to get to that spot. Just run you over. Yeah, you can't really, because Kareem had the most points before.
Clayton English
That's the best score.
Dwight Howard
And I think I still would think. I'm always going with Kareem because I think he got the one shot. I used to tell them, Kareem the Goat. Cause he got one shot nobody could stop. And he had 30,000 points doing twos. He ain't shooting no threes.
Host
That's crazy.
Clayton English
That is crazy.
Dwight Howard
He have no threes.
Clayton English
He did from the three, though.
Dwight Howard
He what?
Clayton English
He was a good.
Host
He was shooting. He did play 28 years.
Clayton English
Yeah.
Dwight Howard
But he's still doing two points to get 30,000.
Host
That is a lot of buckets.
Dwight Howard
He's the greatest height. When he did. He got the most high school and college accolades, all that stuff.
Greg Lott
Yeah. His career's insane.
Host
Yeah, it's crazy.
Dwight Howard
That's what I'm saying.
Host
I'll take Bron.
Dwight Howard
You would take Bron? Because it just n. I just watch basketball.
Host
I'm like. I would take br.
Clayton English
Kareem is literally one and done.
Dwight Howard
Who's stopping Kareem?
Clayton English
But I'm saying you would never see.
Host
That ever again there.
Clayton English
Your dad did not have you in the hood shooting hook shots thousand times.
Dwight Howard
I was doing hook shots on my own. That was one of my favorite shots.
Host
Yeah, but you. You never let go.
Clayton English
You never did the let.
Dwight Howard
You never woke up. Mine was running hooks. I did all running hooks.
Clayton English
You was not throwing your leg in the air.
Dwight Howard
I was. No, I wasn't. Your host drop.
Host
You did not say, I want to put my Kareem by doing Jabart.
Dwight Howard
No, I didn't.
Host
Hell, no.
Dwight Howard
No. I don't think nobody said, that's my boy.
Clayton English
Yeah, there it is.
Dwight Howard
He said he made the shot.
Host
Cuz they banned Duncan, right.
Dwight Howard
I want to know how he. Cause the goals probably wasn't as strong to handle people dunking like that than they are now, so. I can understand that. Cause when I was in high school, and that's not even that long ago, we couldn't dunk in warmups. You still can't do that.
Clayton English
Nah, yo, that's a real rule.
Dwight Howard
Yeah. Cause you won't break the goals and stuff like that.
Clayton English
Yeah, we know in Jersey. They let y' all in Jersey.
Dwight Howard
Let y' all do anything, man.
Greg Lott
Yeah, ain't no rules in Jersey, man.
Dwight Howard
I think they about to had the shot clock.
Host
Y' all don't have a shot clock.
Clayton English
We don't either. What had that in Georgia.
Dwight Howard
I don't even remember.
Clayton English
Who going to.
Greg Lott
Talk to your wife in 24 seconds.
Host
Facts.
Clayton English
Was that the. What was that the game plan though, in high school? Let's get this thing.
Greg Lott
Hold on.
Host
Y.
Greg Lott
He answer the question, bro.
Dwight Howard
Who better br you right. Damn.
Host
Yeah, I try letting.
Clayton English
I was trying, Dwight.
Dwight Howard
Everything. Everything combined. You got to give it to LeBron.
Host
Okay, B.
Dwight Howard
Scoring wise, I gotta say, I like Kobe. If it's late in the game, I'm giving the ball to Kobe. I'm not gonna give the ball to LeBron late in the game, I'm gonna give it to Kobe.
Host
I take.
Dwight Howard
But LeBron got. He got it.
Host
I take that.
Greg Lott
That is funny as hell. That LeBron know get considered as a scorer. He got the most buckets ever. We understand how. But that's crazy.
Host
I never understood it. He averaged like 25 every year, bro.
Greg Lott
I have the most buckets ever, bro.
Clayton English
He don't have. He don't have a Kareem stat line. Bron score all over the floor. I mean, of course he get majority inside.
Dwight Howard
So does LeBron have a bag?
Host
I'm bigger, I'm stronger, I'm faster. I don't need a bag. I don't need a bag. Don't let him get off.
Greg Lott
Don't have a bag.
Host
He don't. He don't do moves. Nah.
Greg Lott
First of all, no disrespect. One of the best moves in basketball. That's what I'm calling.
Dwight Howard
It's no way I'm letting this man look at his hand and the ball.
Clayton English
Every time he do, he look right.
Dwight Howard
At his hand and look at them and go back.
Clayton English
That's the part.
Host
That's how I know he the goat.
Greg Lott
When he was younger, he used to get real disrespectful and spin the ball in his hands. And J, I'm like, brian is so disrespectful because we know you're not passing, bro.
Clayton English
Y' all think y' all might got Brian up. Brian got a bag, bro. But he got a bag.
Dwight Howard
He ain't got no bag.
Host
He got.
Clayton English
He do, bro. Cause his passing, it goes into that, too.
Host
I mean, he could pass like a month.
Dwight Howard
He can pass like, crazy kind of way. We talking about his bag like.
Host
He'S not a handler.
Greg Lott
Miami. Brian was there for 300, bro. I don't need a bag, bro. Get out my way or you gonna die, bro.
Host
Facts, facts, facts. He don't need no bag.
Clayton English
I done seen Brian tween, tween, tween, pull up.
Host
I mean, he nice. He can do that, but he ain't got handles like that.
Dwight Howard
So you say he better than Jordan? Hey, come on now.
Clayton English
Let's make a podcast today.
Host
Yeah, I think he better than Jordan.
Dwight Howard
He better than Jordan.
Host
Yeah.
Dwight Howard
In what? Shooting everything.
Host
Oh, it ain't nothing. He can't do that, Mike. I don't know about shooting shit. Mike can't shoot threes. Mike had a crazy mid range elite.
Greg Lott
Fade away.
Host
Yeah, but. Well, he can't do that. Mike, for real.
Clayton English
I wanna hear y' all answer besides.
Host
The final stuff, but I feel like me. I feel like Bron played better players in the finals and had to go to some tougher roles. Like, ooh wee.
Dwight Howard
Shit, they got Detroit, man.
Greg Lott
Shout out to Z. Shout out to Zay.
Host
Mike didn't play Detroit in the finals. He had to get through Detroit.
Greg Lott
Yeah, yeah, but he had to play what, the Lakers teams. That was older.
Host
Magic.
Greg Lott
That Phoenix Suns scene was.
Host
Magic was old. Magic was supersonics.
Clayton English
They played the sun.
Host
Simple Sonics. No disrespect to gt, but he's got Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Blazers. Nah, you just said y' all got the best era.
Dwight Howard
Yeah, we do got the best era.
Host
Okay.
Clayton English
That's Brian Air, bro.
Host
Yeah, I played okc, the one I won. I played three hall of Famers in James Harden, Westbrook and kd.
Clayton English
He had to get through KG and them.
Host
Then I had to get through Boston.
Clayton English
Yep.
Greg Lott
Spurs was historically good.
Host
Spurs got five hall of Famers.
Clayton English
Yep.
Greg Lott
And that Golden State team is one of the best teams in NBA history.
Host
NBA history. And then who Brian played against? No disrespect to Mike, but he played John Stockton and Karl Malone.
Clayton English
That was cold though, bro.
Host
They are. But that duo.
Clayton English
Shout out to Jeff.
Host
That duo is not better than no other duo that we just Named that Bron played in the finals. He take in, I don't know.
Clayton English
Freaky Carl, bro.
Dwight Howard
Was Carl Malone.
Host
Y' all taking him over Tim Duncan Parker.
Dwight Howard
Freaky Carl, though.
Host
Freaky Carl.
Dwight Howard
Crazy.
Greg Lott
Wow.
Clayton English
Yeah.
Dwight Howard
I want to stay out of that one.
Clayton English
You can.
Dwight Howard
I want to stay out of that one.
Clayton English
A freaky cat.
Host
He was.
Clayton English
He was a bucket.
Host
You think? 30,000. Tim Duncan and John Stockton.
Dwight Howard
Why not?
Clayton English
I'm not either.
Michael Kasson
No.
Greg Lott
I'm taking Tim Duncan all day.
Clayton English
Oh, facts. He's better.
Greg Lott
Yeah. I'm just rolling.
Host
Yeah, I'm taking Tim Duncan.
Greg Lott
And for defensive aspect too.
Host
Yeah, I'm taking argument. Who better, Tim Duncan or kg? Tim Duncan.
Greg Lott
Tim Duncan. No disrespect to kg, cuz I thought.
Host
They Tim Duncan had a better career.
Clayton English
Nah, I'm taking kg.
Host
What y want me to do? I got San Antonio lit. Yeah. Who the want to go San Antonio?
Greg Lott
If he was more of a selfish player, the stats would have been more.
Dwight Howard
I got Rasheed over Tim Duncan.
Host
Yeah.
Clayton English
I'm not mad.
Host
He must have got you buckets.
Dwight Howard
Yeah.
Clayton English
No.
Dwight Howard
Rasheed was cold, man.
Clayton English
He was hit the white room, that type.
Host
Yeah, he earned his stripes against them. But ain't no way in hell he think he better tell though.
Michael Kasson
What?
Host
It ain't no way.
Dwight Howard
Come on, y' all gotta crazy. Y' all can't do that because Rasheed didn't have those comp. Rasheed was more of a team. He really care about having that kind of stuff Now.
Greg Lott
I think Tim Duncan.
Host
Tim Duncan is the most team friendly nigga I ever seen in my life. Even with his paychecks.
Clayton English
50 games probably.
Dwight Howard
What you mean?
Host
He took lest on them spurs teams?
Clayton English
Yeah.
Dwight Howard
Cause on the back end he was getting paid.
Host
Of course he still probably getting paid. But I'm just saying it looked like it looked good. Yeah.
Greg Lott
Look at Jalen Brunson. Y' all think he just took a L on no. He gonna have real estate New York.
Host
Yeah, for sure.
Greg Lott
I'm sure some backdoor shit going on.
Dwight Howard
So y' all taking? Okay, so kg all Rasheed.
Clayton English
I got kg, I got ticket.
Greg Lott
I'll take kg.
Host
But Tim Duncan over all them.
Greg Lott
You can't mess it with either one of them.
Host
Those are all three.
Greg Lott
Probably the top five ticket was the.
Clayton English
First one to me to do what he did in NBA.
Host
So you gonna take that Jazz team over the spurs team? Tim Duncan, Ginoblyn.
Clayton English
I don't even like Utah. I don't like none of that.
Host
Because they said.
Greg Lott
And respect to Byron Russell is cooking him for sure. Yeah, oh, what?
Host
That's what I'm saying.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Host
Bron played better teams.
Clayton English
He did, bro.
Greg Lott
Mono was that shout out to Greg.
Clayton English
Ulster tag. But.
Dwight Howard
Well, no, we can't even say. We can't even say. Braun did play against better teams. I give him that.
Clayton English
Playing against K, you got to go through kd, Russ and James Harden.
Host
All I gotta do is beat Charles.
Clayton English
Barkley, Kevin Johnson, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green. Question.
Dwight Howard
We just looking at it from the paper like we not. Actually, some of these guys may not didn't have a name like the KGS and all them, but they was cold back then. They was cold defense and all that stuff.
Clayton English
It took a 07 Cavs team, which half the world can't remember who was on that team to the finals, Bro.
Greg Lott
He don't remember.
Clayton English
Fingers out.
Dwight Howard
Count Ira Noble.
Host
No disrespect.
Clayton English
Nah.
Dwight Howard
Who else is on that team? What's the ball? Head point guard.
Host
See, well, you gotta do that.
Clayton English
We don't even got that much time.
Dwight Howard
Williams who?
Clayton English
What's his first name? Nigga start with an M. Yeah.
Host
Mo Williams was on that team.
Dwight Howard
Oh, he was.
Greg Lott
That was E. Snow.
Host
Yeah. Eric Snow.
Dwight Howard
Oh, Eric Snow. That's. Hey, that's one of the strongest point guards in the history.
Host
When you guys start saying n. Just wanted to start.
Clayton English
Ask this nigga another question about his life. Cause he lying on niggas.
Host
When you guys start saying, what a. One of the strongest ever. You know, you that ain't know. Hell no.
Dwight Howard
Who was on that team?
Host
That's what I'm saying. Bron.
Dwight Howard
Oh, Anderson Vera.
Greg Lott
He was.
Dwight Howard
He was on the team. And the tall. What's the.
Host
Braun was what, 21, 22.
Clayton English
They had freaking freaky. Gibb was there. He was at two guard. The point guard.
Dwight Howard
Gibbs.
Host
Come on, bro. Y. Y' all tripping.
Greg Lott
Talking about Booby.
Clayton English
Yeah.
Host
Think about when Bron left. No disrespect to Booby Gibson, but what happened? Yeah, bro.
Greg Lott
No, not even to the team. The city died.
Michael Kasson
I know a lot of cops and they get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no. Across the country, cops call this Taser the revolution. But not everyone was convinced it was that simple. Cops believed everything that Taser told them from Lava for good. And the team that brought you Bone Valley comes a story about what happened when a multi billion dollar company dedicated itself to one visionary mission. This is absolute season one, Taser Incorporated.

Michael Kasson
In a very big way. Real people, real perspectives.
Clayton English
This is kind of star studded a little bit, man. We got Ricky Williams, NFL player, Heisman Trophy winner. It's just the compassionate choice to allow players all reasonable means to care for themselves.
Michael Kasson
Music stars Marcus King, John Osborne from Brothers Osborne.
Greg Lott
We have this misunderstanding of what this.
Clayton English
Quote unquote drug fans, Benny the Butcher.
Michael Kasson
Brent Smith from Shinedown. Be Real from Cypress Hill, NHL enforcer.
Clayton English
Riley Cote, Marine Corvette, MMA fighter Liz Caramouche.
Michael Kasson
What we're doing now isn't working and.
Clayton English
We need to change things.
Michael Kasson
Stories matter and it brings a face to them.
Clayton English
It makes it real.

It's this idea that there's so many stories out there and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment and sports collide and hear how leaders like Angelique are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Clayton English
Yeah, it don't mean. I think a lot of people too just be wanting that. Wanting to play the smoke, though.
Host
That's cool, too. But what's really the smoke? Like, you drive all the way to. You fly all the way to California. You play a team and got some hold backs. Y' all fourth grade, they fifth grade, they had hold backs or whatever. They beat y' all by 30. Your kids come home like, man, we sad as fuck.
Clayton English
I agree.
Host
But I used to. I never understood that.
Greg Lott
I used to be like, now it's super bad. Cause they got YouTube and they looking at the number one ranked fifth grader in the nation. It's just like, bro, he might even be the 100th by the time he's in sixth grade. But he got a clip right now, YouTube short, and it's cracking. So now we want to tap in.
Host
I remember all them little kids when they was little, man. What's the dude? Brad and them used to always talk about him, man. He ended up. He was from Houston, bro. Bryce Griggs.
Clayton English
Oh, yeah.
Host
I think that was his name. I remember he ended up going to ot.
Clayton English
Yeah, bro.
Host
They used to talk about this kid so much, bro. And no smut on his name. I don't know what his journey in basketball was. Yeah, they like, man, he the best seventh grader I ever seen. I was like, bro, he's really good. I'm like, but whoopty fucking dude, bro.
Clayton English
Yeah, he 13.
Host
I'm like, bro, I seen kids. Marcus whole team in sixth grade was doing reverse dunks in sixth grade. I never seen. I seen Marcus hoop after they got to ninth grade, tenth grade. I'd never seen none of the body else on his team, bro.
Clayton English
Yeah, true.
Host
I'm like, where the hell. All them dudes that was dunking when they was. Was 11? They ain't who no more. One of them was on the block. I'm like, look at him. I remember you used to get dunk in sixth grade.
Clayton English
But a lot of these kids, bro, got single mama. So they seeing they kid get this notoriety, and these coaches is, you know, talking to him different. He could be this, he could be that. You kind of lose track that they just kids and they got so much more to go. Like, I understand both sides of it.
Host
I know you, right? But I don't.
Clayton English
From the standpoint, who don't? Because you. Because you know, though, bro, for my mother, who don't know.
Host
And it's obvious, though, if you keep the main thing. The main thing, like, everybody know you. If you hear LeBron tell you keep the main thing, the main thing, nigga, you don't Nobody else in the world need to tell you nothing. Like, true. He been there every road. You talking about single mom, all that stuff. If LeBron telling you, hey, keep basketball the main thing. Don't worry about all this stuff. Like, what we talking about. Yeah.
Greg Lott
And even if you like, that's LeBron, he's Anomaly. Cool. But if you look at every other NBA player, especially like with the one, my guy Brad Beal, that's legendary video. We have a lot of those players saying, hey, this is all bullshit. Now you got people talking about the Nil. Stop selling your high school dreams already for a check and you can fuck it up before you get to college. Take your time, get to college and then worry about that. Like you said, keep the main thing.
Host
The main thing going to worry about playing. Like, I give you the vibes. Like, shout out to like, AJ Debancer and all them. It's only so many of them.
Clayton English
Yep.
Host
Like, some of y' all are going, this my biggest thing. You gotta be loved. Where you from, like. Cause your city is always gonna be your backbone. They always gonna have your back. They gonna root for you, like, even when shit go bad or you done hooping, whatever, you can always like me. I go back to Pac, I can get a job, I can be a coach, I can start a new career. But if you go traveling the world, switching school from school, and you ain't got no foundation like where you from or somebody really championing or rooting for you, you just out here.
Greg Lott
Yep.
Host
Like, I give an example, like Brandon Jennings going to Oak Hill, that's cool. People that went to Oak Hill, that's fire, whatever. But you see how they talk about them like, you ain't no real la. You ain't play LA basketball. You know what I mean? I was too good for la. And he got a rep. Oak Hill. But Oak Hill is in Virginia. People don't really. But if you look at DeMar DeRozan when he talk about him in high school, yeah, he, like, loved, like, he went to Compton, whatever, you know what I mean? It's like a different vibe. And I always felt that. But like Eric Gordon, like, from our area, like Greg Odin and all them going to them schools, they like, everybody.
Greg Lott
Stay your community, bro. Even at the next level in college, you get so many kids move around. Cause they nil. But if you ain't got a home in college, hey, the league don't work out, you can go back and be a broadcaster at your old school. You can go be a coach. You bouncing school to School, Yeah. The bread is there, but the relationships is torn.
Host
Every year he cooked, bro, like, Robbie Hummel can do whatever he want at Purdue for the rest of his life, bro. Legend, he got hurt so much, NBA career didn't last long. He could go to Purdue and do whatever he want. E2amore could go to Purdue, do whatever he want. And it's like, that's amazing.
Clayton English
That's true. I just. Like I said, I see the other side of it. I don't agree with it, but people don't have that common knowledge, bro.
Host
We've been around some money before. You know how fast you go to a prep school, they give you $50,000? You know how fast $50,000 leave your hand?
Clayton English
Are you done? You cook. Especially if you ain't never had that type of chicken.
Host
What?
Greg Lott
Yeah. Especially when Lauren, the first time paying real taxes is like, bro, that 50,000 gone you owe.
Host
Yeah, 50,000 gone as soon as you pay your rent.
Clayton English
Yeah.
Greg Lott
Cardinal Uncle Sam, you ain't got shit, bro.
Host
What?
Greg Lott
Cause you gonna buy a car.
Host
Your kid that went out there, 50,000, you done sent him somewhere for 50,000.
Clayton English
So I just hate when they don't work out for the kids and you got a parent 12 times harder because now you gotta, like, retrain his mental health. Damn near. That's what I'd be fucked up about.
Host
Like, go to a prep school, you don't have too much success. Or, like, they don't realize when you go to a prep school, you go into a place where usually it's a bunch of other guys who are good.
Clayton English
Yeah.
Host
So, yo, whatever it is, gonna take a hit. You never have the ability to learn to take over games or do something. Cause somebody always is doing something for you. Like, if you got a point guard who's elite, he gonna make everything happen for you. If you're a big man, if you a big man, that's elite and your point guard is just a little. Okay. He made it easier for you. So you never learned how to be a guy?
Clayton English
Nah.
Host
Facts and everything just become easier at a prep school. Y' all might play other talented schools, but. But it's only so many schools you can play. You're gonna have to have a schedule. If you got 30 games, y' all gonna play some cupcakes.
Clayton English
Oh, facts.
Greg Lott
For sure.
Clayton English
For sure.
Host
Yeah.
Greg Lott
You look at autumn prep schools, I mean, they only playing 10 to 12 cold teams, probably a couple local teams. Other than that, they are definitely cupcakes, bro. Come on, Bo, pat them sacks.
Clayton English
And I don't Even like it too. Because the kids that ain't as good as the third, fourth best fifth graders in the country. That kind of discouraged them because they, like, like, man, a little more cold. This nine, bro. You ain't even realizing. You about to be way taller than him, way stronger than him. By the time y' all in eighth grade, you're gonna be looking at him. He green.
Host
Green.
Clayton English
You know what I'm saying? So it really that they need good people around them to tell them, like, that's why I love, like, when all the NBA, Even niggas that didn't hoop in the NBA, just college, top college, just come back and get back to the kids because they need that. The social media wasn't like that when we was growing up, bro. Cause I think that would have been different for us too.
Host
Too. Yeah, we would have been affected for sure, bro.
Clayton English
I'm sure to God you would have.
Greg Lott
Come on, bro. We fell in love with and one mixtapes. And everybody wanted to play basketball.
Clayton English
I know everybody from our lips just chapped.
Host
Can't find my chapstick.
Clayton English
From our era that went to the NBA, stayed in school. I don't know if everybody would have stayed in high school back when we was in. You know what I mean?
Host
Or went to the league.
Clayton English
Niggas might have actually went to a prep school if they got offered some chicken.
Host
Oh, for sure.
Clayton English
You know what I'm saying?
Host
I don't know, though. Cause the beauty about us. Cause you n was, you know, you can get paid.
Clayton English
Yeah.
Host
But the thing that was beautiful about us, the competition was so good here.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Host
Like, the competition is good here still. But here it was like, I'm playing a prep school schedule. Cause I play an NBA player every night. Yep.
Greg Lott
You could just play in the mix. You were seeing the NBA player every single weekend.
Clayton English
That's a fact. That's a fact, man.
Host
And like, you wasn't gonna get no better. Like, the one thing about it, money ain't going nowhere. If you put in the work and you that good, you gonna get some money. That's what my dad used to always say. He used to be like, if you think you that you gonna get some money, but if you not that you ain't gonna get no money.
Clayton English
Nah, for sure.
Host
And I used to then believe him. I used to be like. Cause you know, I'm trying to get some bread. He was like, it'll happen. You just gotta be that.
Clayton English
See, a lot of kids don't receive that, though. That worked out for y' all. Cause y' all was like phenomenal athletes. But these kids work ethic is trash.
Host
But that mean you really ain't that you giving me my. You making my prime example. Like, all right, somebody gonna give you some money cause you tall. Somebody gonna give you some money cause you fast right now. But that shit catch up to you if you not really one of them.
Clayton English
Oh, yeah.
Host
Eventually the rubber gonna meet the road. And your shit, your dream gonna be shot. Like it's gonna be over. That's why I hate kids who get all this hype, like when they young. And then like, you got no choice but to go to the league, right? Like, whatever. You had hype since you was in sixth grade to your senior year. You go to Kansas and you do just enough to get to the league. But you never really been putting through anything. And a rubber gotta meet the road. And then your NBA journey is two years.
Clayton English
Yeah. And then you don't know how to adapt.
Host
And now you gotta live real life.
Greg Lott
No life skills. You've been babies your whole life. Ain't got a degree, Relationship might be shaky.
Host
You gotta figure it out overseas if that might not work. Cause you ain't never had to go out the country. And you always been catered to. Now you gotta get to it. And now everybody. Now you gotta start being like me. Talk about what you did, what I used to do, who I used to be.
Clayton English
You the real Al Bundy.
Host
Yeah. Like, nah. I was number one in the world. And this is no shade to him. I love. I actually glad. I'm not glad it happened to him. But, like, his story makes it easier for me to be a coach. I show everybody Lennon Cook's story.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Clayton English
Oh, yeah. That was our best example of all time growing up.
Host
I show him Lenny Cook. Every time I show, man, I told Isaiah, I was like, wait, watch this. Yeah, you need to watch this Lenny Cook documentary, man.
Clayton English
That'll humble the fuck out of him.
Host
Yeah. Cause he was right there, so. And shout out to him, man, he be writing the page. He wrote me before, too.
Greg Lott
Shout out to Lenny Cook.
Clayton English
Nah. Hell yeah.
Host
His story is very inspiring. And like, it wake you up for real.
Greg Lott
Yeah, most definitely. Good talk, man. Even like Kenya Mar was talking on Gil's podcast, like, if y' all training all day at basketball, you probably fucking suck. Like, you have to go play basketball to play basketball. All the things that's glorified in basketball is everything but putting the work in.
Host
Yeah.
Clayton English
I'm a five or five anyway, over one on one.
Host
I can give you an example of A kid. And then we can get something else. A kid told me today, nah, he raw. I said, where you see him play at? He's like, his highlights are crazy. I said, yeah, you know what? It's called a highlight. I was like, have you ever checked out his low lights? He's like, what's that?
Greg Lott
I said, yeah, yeah.
Clayton English
See, that's my example right there. These kids are so green, bro. They don't know. So they need people like you to tell them, like, what's wrong?
Host
Look, he said, elliot Cadeau used to be raw. I said, was he raw? He was like, man, his mixtapes was crazy. I was like, it was highlights. I like, did you watch him at unc? He was like, I ain't really.
Dwight Howard
He.
Host
I ain't really do nothing. I said, I know. And that's no shade to him. Cause I hope you have a successful. I know he transferred to Michigan. I hope a good showing in Michigan. But I was just saying, like, his.
Clayton English
Shit look like, like Paramount Pictures in goddamn high school.
Greg Lott
Seventh woods we thought was the second coming, bro. His middle school.
Clayton English
I know this might be a little contradictive. Seven. Seven was the greatest seven, seven year old what, seventh grader I've ever seen in my life. I don't care what. Jeff, I know we just had this good spill, but that. When I seen seven woods and Atlanta playing basketball, I swear to God, I knew he was going to. To the league. You couldn't tell me nothing different? I've never seen a seventh grader guard anybody like that, bro. Like that had 11 steals, bro, in the first half.
Greg Lott
It was ducky.
Clayton English
This got to be 17, bro. No way.
Host
It was amazing.
Clayton English
Yeah, but that, I mean, it shows you where that hype kill you, though.
Host
Yeah. And I'm trying to figure out where he went to school at.
Greg Lott
He went to unc.
Host
He went to unc? Yeah, cuz I never seen. Did he play?
Greg Lott
He did here and there, Jakey, but.
Clayton English
It wasn't compared to the height. That goes to your point, though.
Host
That's what I'm. Yeah, like that's crazy that he was that good.
Clayton English
Yeah, bro, that.
Greg Lott
That was seven woods, bro.
Clayton English
One of the best, cool, big saints.
Greg Lott
Of all time, bro. For sure.
Host
That is crazy.
Greg Lott
Legend, for sure. Hey, man, the Phoenix Suns, man, about to mess around to change the NBA next season, man. They got the new coach in Jordan Ott. Know what I'm saying?
Host
They going shout out to my dog, man.
Clayton English
That's Jim Boyes.
Host
Yeah, that's my man's bro. I'm so happy for him.
Greg Lott
Yeah, they speak very, very highly of him. They said Devin Booker, you know what I'm saying, was definitely on that committee and making sure he was a part of that. They went through for Devin Booker. He has had eight head coaches since he has been to Phoenix.
Clayton English
Damn.
Greg Lott
Obviously he will be around as a franchise player, but they trying to make some shit up, man. I know we talked about on the morning show possibly Katt moving on, but they got some great trade scenarios that include him getting the Phoenix and KD going to the Knicks, man.
Host
What's the trade scenario? Let's talk to him, man.
Greg Lott
They talking about giving up Kat and another player and getting Katie.
Host
That's crazy. Y' all, look who called me. This is this guy. Look who it is. Jordan. I O.J.
Greg Lott
Oh, that's hilarious. There's no way we could have planned this.
Host
By the way, I swear I missed the call. I'm gonna tell him. Let's see if he answered. He's a busy man right now. Yeah, I missed this call.
Clayton English
He's ecstatic.
Greg Lott
The fact he hit your line of.
Host
Spire, though it is.
Clayton English
He offer you a job, you going, no real problem. Okay. Just watch the show.
Host
He called me an hour ago. My bad. Hey, 18. My fault, brother. He might even be on a plane.
Clayton English
Some of the time.
Greg Lott
Shout out to J O man, getting that head coaching job. But yeah, man, we've seen KD possibly going to the Spurs. There's some interest there. Houston as well.
Clayton English
Damn.
Host
KD to the Spurs.
Greg Lott
KD to the Spurs.
Clayton English
I love that, Yanis.
Greg Lott
I do, too. I think the asking prices are going to be a little bit cheaper. They trying to get it done within the next couple of weeks before the draft. Preferably you could get KD for Devin Fasale, Harrison Barnes and that pick. And I don't even think it's a 2 pick. They were talking about possibly B14. But hey, man, imagine getting KD on that team with Wemby. That would be scary.
Host
Do y' all want to see KD with Wimby or do y' all want to see KD in New York?
Clayton English
Houston, I like kd. I like KD with Wemby over KD with Bronson.
Greg Lott
KD and Wimby just sounds insane with D and Fox. I would love to see that. That's not my conference, so I ain't got to deal with it. I'm all for it.
Host
You think they can get. They said they can get KD for the 14th pick.
Greg Lott
14Th pick. You have to give up cell. Harrison Barnes. Now you probably got. I don't know. They might try to get that. That higher pick, which is fine if they do, because it. The money's gonna be gone anyway. But then Houston, you know what I'm saying? Houston has a pretty solid pick as well. And they talking about giving up Jabari, talking about giving up Dillon Brooks and a pick and a pick swap. So if you Phoenix, KD might be your best way to play.
Host
I don't like giving up Dylan Brooks.
Greg Lott
You don't like that?
Host
Nah. You gotta keep Dylan Brooks.
Greg Lott
We gonna push him to the bench. You gonna just have the max of three or four.
Host
He gonna start. Okay, KD gonna play the four. So you gonna start. Van Vliet.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Host
Green.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Host
Dylan Brooks. Damn, the Thompson tune got start. Yeah, Thompson twin got start.
Greg Lott
All right. What you gonna do with say gun then?
Host
Oh, he's starting at 5.
Greg Lott
So who come over?
Host
I don't want Katie in Houston.
Greg Lott
Okay?
Host
You just went. Somebody gotta come off, get a tick. I want KD in New York.
Greg Lott
Okay. You Okie with the Knicks?
Host
I want Katie and Neil over with Wemby, bro.
Clayton English
What?
Greg Lott
Katie and Wimby would just be fucking ridiculous.
Host
And I would say I don't want to watch San Antonio. No shade. I like.
Greg Lott
I hate their hometown.
Host
Y' all know. Yeah, they lit.
Greg Lott
I hate their home, you know?
Host
I love de' Aaron Fox, bro. One of my favorite players.
Clayton English
They lit, bro.
Host
I fuck with you, Fox forever. But I don't wanna watch. I don't wanna watch. Like, I love Wemby too. I love kd. That's a crazy trio.
Greg Lott
That's insane.
Host
I don't.
Clayton English
The best trio.
Host
I don't want to see Wemby like KD so good. I don't want to see him have to take like a. A little step back. I want to see Wemby shoot wild ass threes and shit.
Clayton English
I think he can.
Greg Lott
Oh, he's gonna do that anyway.
Host
I mean, it's.
Clayton English
I think it just looks better than him and Giannis.
Host
I just want to see KD in New York. KD deserved to be in New York. He did it in Brooklyn. He deserves the big likes.
Clayton English
He did his big shit.
Greg Lott
The real New York experience.
Host
Yeah, he deserves that. Like he should go out like that. The Knicks always get people when they older anyway, so he deserves that.
Greg Lott
Damn, he didn't do about the New York.
Clayton English
I like that team, though.
Host
Like kd og who they gonna give up? Mikell, you said in Kat.
Greg Lott
Mikell and Kat.
Host
Mitchell Robinson, kd, og. Josh Hart's still there and Josh Hart. I like it.
Clayton English
That's a fair team.
Host
I like it.
Greg Lott
That's a tough team.
Clayton English
That is a fair team.
Host
You got a guaranteed bucket in Brunson and KD got the defense.
Greg Lott
Darrell Hart and Mitchell Robinson Lee rebound.
Clayton English
That was the Knicks problem, though. They just had a bunch of people that did stuff good. They have nobody to do nothing great.
Host
Like KD is a guarantee.
Greg Lott
Like, yes, yes. Jesus Christ.
Host
That's a guarantee. Like, ain't no way Nemhard. No disrespect to them, but just like Nemhard or Neesmith bothering him, I'm gonna get pissed off.
Greg Lott
How many versions of the Knicks we gonna have to beat if something happened? We beat y' all ass last year. Y' all go get Kat and Mikhail Bridges, then y' all gonna bounce back and get kd, bro. That's not fair, bro.
Host
I mean, it's New York.
Clayton English
Yeah, it's New York. And you're penalized for living here.
Greg Lott
It sucks.
Host
Yeah, hold on. I don't like what Joe Button said about.
Greg Lott
Yeah, Joe, we still live in Indiana.
Host
Yeah. Yeah.
Greg Lott
Ain't your lock.
Clayton English
Oh, yeah, Joe stole that off TikTok. He didn't mean that. He didn't mean that.
Host
Oh, he did. I was about to go crazy.
Greg Lott
He's still bitter about that belt to ass situation.
Host
I bout to talk about his seats. I can't say that our seats was fucked up. We was assholes.
Clayton English
First of, bro. I love you too, but we wasn't in no those bre. Good season, bro.
Greg Lott
They believe me when I said y' all was in the 300 level. Somebody on Twitter posted it just like, damn, they up there. I said, no, I'm in the sweet somebody.
Clayton English
I should have 250s, bro. Somebody took a picture with Mountain, you know, 100, that was in 100. Cropped it and it's looking like I'm at M. Daniel's jersey. Like, got my head right under.
Host
Was close enough.
Greg Lott
My homeboy posted he was at the game. He was like, yeah, but I had to pull up to the game. He was up top. I said, boy, you better help you. Your feet are perfect. You are slip away from home court.
Clayton English
Are y' all going to a finals game?
Greg Lott
I'm pissed because I got offered tickets in OKC today, so I can't slide, but I will probably go to game three or game four for sure.
Host
How much you think a finals ticket.
Greg Lott
Goes comma, comma, what's your guesses?
Host
How much y' all think the floor seat go for the person?
Clayton English
10.
Host
10 what?
Greg Lott
4 floor seat. No.
Host
20.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Host
Let's see.
Clayton English
Floor seat at the.
Greg Lott
For Indiana and Oklahoma City is the NBA Finals.
Host
Yeah, I don't think they're that high, though.
Clayton English
The nosebleeds start at 600.
Host
Okay, what you think the floor seat cost?
Clayton English
Gotta be a 10, y' all. 20 bands.
Greg Lott
It's the NBA Finals. If it was the NBA Finals, I would be 1,000% there with you.
Clayton English
Oh, y' all.
Host
Hey, 29. 29,000.
Clayton English
No, 9,000. Second row, second row. Joe, give me Joe Button. Seize Joe Butt seas.
Host
Okay, Fat Joe told you, bro. You can't be in the Jones, bro.
Clayton English
That's game one. Okc.
Host
Oh, how much you think of Indiana? Game three, courtside. They probably sold out anyway, but damn.
Clayton English
In the bridge, we ain't acting like we got that. I'm just saying. It's 21. Oh, wait, wait a second, wait a second. I want to hear this other number.
Host
21,000 on the floor. 66,000 on the floor.
Clayton English
On the floor.
Greg Lott
I told y' all that 20.
Clayton English
Bed 21. You want to sit next to media? Between the media and the pacers in the second row. How much was the one we got for 21,000?
Host
The second row.
Clayton English
21,000.
Host
Second row for one seat.
Clayton English
Oh, my gosh, y' all, somebody want 259,000.
Greg Lott
He is smoking crack cocaine for floor seat. Yeah. Ticketmaster will not honor that at all.
Clayton English
Good dope.
Greg Lott
I will go buy a new TV for every room in my fucking house before I spend $20,000 on the game ticket.
Host
And a car, nigga. I will take a private flight to Miami and watch the game at Prime112.
Clayton English
Shout out to prom.

Host
My favorite restaurant.
Clayton English
Four for 31,000.
Host
Yeah. I ain't going to that game.
Greg Lott
Yeah, I will buy a new car before I do that.
Host
All right. Pacers, man. Hey, shout out to the Timberwolves, man. They showed me love. They sending me some packages in the mail because I was representing for the squad. That was random. But I'm back with the Pacers, so Pacers do right by me.
Clayton English

Greg Lott
No, se got it. Tap in. We need the vibes.

Greg Lott
I am not. But game three and four.
Host
So where are we having a watch party at for game one?
Clayton English
Game one? That motherfuckers tomorrow, which is tonight. We're not having a watch party for game one.

Clayton English
I'm gonna take that and put it in a toy. All right, now, this is my proof, y' all. Now, I do this party shit. Like I'm. I'm trying to tell him it's. It's gonna be a little different. Mike with his anxiety. He don't come out, out. He's gonna have. We gonna party. It's gonna be. I know I'm not gonna have a good time. He told me. Oh, Mike, that's my camera.
Dwight Howard
I don't know.
Clayton English
I'm saying.
Host
That's why we gotta.
Greg Lott
We gotta block off an area, okay?
Clayton English
Because we can't have the game in the background anyway, because your flag. So.
Greg Lott
So we just shout out to Copper.
Clayton English
We just sit up in the VIP area. Yeah, it's that big part.
Host
Yeah, yeah. And we just.
Clayton English
I just. You know, that's a hundred thousand dollars.
Greg Lott
Get her off of there.
Host
No, no, no. We just put that VIP right there. We live stream it. We watch up there. We had a party going. One. It's just a. It's just a vibe.
Clayton English
Okay.
Greg Lott
Somebody will try to go viral. Y' all gonna have a tough job.
Clayton English
I don't think I understand how lit we are in the city, y' all.
Host
No, I don't know. But I just. I know this is gonna be fun.
Clayton English
Like, which way we're gonna be live.
Host
If they can do Streamer University, we could do streaming culture.
Clayton English
Okay, let's talk.
Greg Lott
I love this.
Clayton English
I got it. I got it.
Greg Lott
Good talk, man. Before we get out of here, we.
Host
Gotta have a limited amount of people come me, because it can't be that hot. I can't be on her.
Greg Lott
Let's see. Like, if we.
Host
If we got the first 100, 110 or so.
Clayton English
It's only 77. 77 people fit in there? No, the weather. I was like, what? No, the weather said, boy, that's an.
Greg Lott
Open gym in Indiana. 77 people.
Clayton English
So it'll be like about close to 70. It's gonna be hot, bro. We gonna figure out how many people bring a fan.
Greg Lott
Come on. Literally. All right. Before we get out of here, Adam Silver talk today talking about the next All Star Game is going to be world versus usa. We are tired of the All Star Game and they gimmicks. But how do y' all feel about this announcement?
Host
The. The world. Nobody on the world ever plays hard. So the USA will win for sure.
Clayton English
Hopefully we can sit down and talk to him one day about that. But I. I think you should go back to the og. The OG way.
Host
West. West, east versus West.
Clayton English
I wanna. I wanna pick his brain on why. You know, he's smart and he helped turn the league up with the play in.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Clayton English
And all that. I. With that. I just wanted to see, like, where his vision is really with it.
Greg Lott
I wonder if they really sick of All Star Weekend. I know it's a high revenue weekend. I know the product is down people on it, but I wonder if they just sick of that. Like, we just gotta do it because we gotta do it.
Clayton English
I don't want it to turn into the. With the NFL. Pro bowl used to be lit when we was kids, bro. Now it's like you don't even think about it.
Greg Lott
Yeah.
Host
Nobody watches the Pro Bowl.
Greg Lott
We have more fun than doing the mini games, than do the actual game.
Clayton English
Yeah. So I hope the NBA. The NBA can't turn into that.
Host
But I think what they doing, what's making it, it's gonna make it a little better this year. They're playing it earlier. Like, All Star Weekend is so long. It is like all the three point concert, all that shit. And then the All Star Game.
Clayton English
You got like 8pm Right?
Host
Yeah. Like, you kind of get world hot.
Clayton English
Oh.
Host
Like three o' clock. Little kids can still be up watching it. Everybody. Like, when I grew up, I remember Jordan and them playing early.
Clayton English
Yeah.
Host
You know what I'm saying? So it's kind of cool not to be that late.
Clayton English
Yeah. Cause Sunday, it ain't really nothing. You just preparing for that.
Host
Yeah, bro.
Greg Lott
It restore the feeling. The old jerseys, that was dope. That's one thing. Like, even with the finals shout out to the Pacers, they did a crazy promo. You can pull up and get a final spatch in your jersey if you got one from this year or last. And it's only like 25. Some shit like that. That's like, that's real memorabilia. We used to love seeing players in their own jerseys in the Austin game. Or even if it was an alternate, they had a dope theme. Like, man, we just got restored feeling, man. I think it's very possible. I know it's a lot of fans that's picky and media vice versa, but, man, we got to do something, man. All Star Weekend was a beloved time for people who love basketball.
Host
Yeah. I don't know if the the world versus the US Is going to be a good thing because the world players don't play. For real. Like, Jokic is going to be an All Star. He's never going to play seriously. Serious.
Greg Lott
Nah.
Host
Shay, Gilbert, Alexander not gonna play serious. Luca not gonna play serious.
Clayton English
Yeah. There's a better team now. Giannis, Luca, they're not gonna play serious.
Greg Lott
Yeah, the teams will be fired. But like you said, the effort ain't gonna be there.
Host
Yeah, they don't play serious at all. If you go watch them in the All Star games, they all do trick shots or just you.
Clayton English
But do you think it's them? You think they would try to prove a point like they're taking over the league, Maybe literally.
Host
They all MVPs, and I don't give a fuck.
Greg Lott
I don't got to think about that.
Host
They all MVPs and they all don't even Give a fuck about being mvp.
Clayton English
That's actually crazy. I agree.
Host
Like, Luke is on his way. He probably eventually get an mvp. Yeah, he don't give a fuck about that. Jokic definitely don't get. He done got a couple MVPs.
Clayton English
So you said the US wins, but it ain't gonna be a good game.
Greg Lott
Mo Joker didn't give a fuck about the chip. He said, all right, cool. I'm about to go play my horses. All right. I did my job.
Host
You don't give a damn about her.
Clayton English
I don't see that.
Host
Shay not about to play hard no fucking nah.
Clayton English
Cause you don't even.
Host
And then I don't even think they got enough world people to, like, have a big enough roster.
Greg Lott
That was my next point. I was gonna say it's gonna be top heavy. Them first five, six.
Host
I mean, like, Pascal will make it.
Greg Lott
Yeah. But then after that, boy, you gonna be having some stragglers in there.
Host
Yeah. You gonna have to start, like, og OG will fuck around, be an All Star.
Clayton English
Just Jamal Murray.
Host
Yeah, but, like.
Greg Lott
But then you look at last year, they had G League players in it, so I guess it can't get no worse than that in respect to them. They h. Of course.
Host
But I ain't gonna lie. That was our weekend. Been kind of mid, bro.
Clayton English
I ain't gonna lie.
Greg Lott
San Fran was mid.
Clayton English
That was.
Greg Lott
It was mid.
Clayton English
Was one of the worst. That was one of the worst.
Host
Yeah.
Greg Lott
That was a bad All Star shot, man. They gonna bounce back. I got faith in the league, man.
Host
If not, the All Star game was like, 2015.
Clayton English
No, that one was mid. I say 20.
Greg Lott
I love his immediate response. Like, that was mid one. My nick was. Nah.
Clayton English
That was even.
Host
Nah.
Clayton English
Cause that. That weekend was really. That wasn't pressure.
Host
It was.
Clayton English
I say it was.
Host
In New York, the dunk contest was amazing.
Greg Lott
Was Toronto after that, the last Kobe one?
Host
The 2015? I think the All Star Game was Aaron.
Clayton English
Yeah. What's the last Kobe? It was 18.
Greg Lott
Yeah. What was the Kobe. Kobe's last All Star Game?
Michael Kasson
I don't remember.
Greg Lott
That was probably the last 18.
Host
What was the dunk contest in 2015? Cause I think that's. I know Zach Lavine was in it.
Clayton English
Kobe's last all star game was 2016.
Host
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Greg Lott
16. Toronto.
Clayton English
Okay. 16.
Greg Lott
That was Zach Levine versus Aaron Gordon. 15.
Host
Nah, I wasn't at that. I think that was 16 or 14.
Clayton English
Zach Levine, Aaron Gordon.
Host
Yeah, that was 16.
Clayton English
2016.
Host
Yeah. That was crazy.
Greg Lott
Elite.
Clayton English
That was one of the ones, man. That game was pretty good, too.
Host
That's probably the best. Austin.
Clayton English
That's when he went over the mascot under.
Host
That's the best All Star weekend.
Greg Lott
One of the best Dunkins.
Host
But like last. That's the last good All Star weekend for sure, man.
Greg Lott
All right, man. We got. We gotta tap back in NBA. Do what y gotta do, man. Make all star weekend great again for sure. All right, man. We appreciate y' all. Before we get out of here, be here and tell the people they can grab some merch.
