Come for the sports. Stay for the stories. Well guys, the Lakers pull up a value effort. They scored 39 points in the third quarter to give them a four point lead heading into the fourth quarter. But it wasn't enough. The turnovers did them in tonight. Far too many careless turnovers. But they played a value game. And think about it. You had three guys in mid-20s and you still couldn't get it done. That's a very good team. Jay Mitchell, oh my goodness, he is sensational to watch him up close. Guys, look, you got to think about this. When Shay went to the bench to start in the second quarter, the Lakers had a five point lead. When he came back in the game, they were up nine.
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Shannon
So that is the difference because that is what they can do that very few teams can do that when their best player goes to the bench, a lead, they eat that up. And if they got the lead, they'll extend the lead. If they're behind, they'll come and get the lead and he comes back in the game. And Shay did. Shay did what to do, but thanks. All the big shots that they hit down the stretch. McCain, big three after big three. Jay Mitchell, the and one. It was just. It was just too much for them to overcome. Joe, what did. What did you like most about what you saw from the OKC Thunder? Because a lot of teams might want to panic. Like, look, we got three in the bag. Let's go back home and close this thing out. But they say, nah, we want to go on and finish this thing up the right way. Do it tonight, man.
GP (Gab)
Listen, hey, as we all know, man, you know, champions prevail, bro. They found ways to win. I agree with you. I think the AJ Mitchell kid, I don't know where he came from. GP Ocho, I don't know where he came from, but he fit perfectly. You know, when I watch him play, it's more how decisive he is when he's out there. Like, he don't have no indecision on what it is he trying to do. He get right to it, bro. It's like, look, I know the game plan. Yeah, we got J Dub out, who's an all star. Oh, well, I'm gonna step right in. I fit like a glove, you feel me? And I think the Lakers played as great as they could play. I mean, they had three guys with 20 and high efficiency. I'm like, damn. They might have a chance to win, but OKC just got too much, bro. They got closers, they got defenders, they play great team defense. And everybody on their team know they role, man. They a true champion. True champion.
Shannon
Okay, jp, Go ahead, take it away. What you thought? What did you see in this game?
Joe
I'm gonna go, yeah, well, well, you know, Shannon, I think the turnovers, they beat them really toughly. I mean, when they had. When they got key stops, even though Oklahoma made big shots, even when they had big time stops, they turned the basketball over on unnecessary situations. And against basketball team like Oklahoma, you cannot turn the ball over because they're going to capitalize because they are a great half court team and that's what it was. I just thought they turned the ball over just even though, even when at the end of the game, when it was 107-109-lebron gets a big time, a stop, get a rebound and he turns the basketball over. You know what I'm saying? You can't do that. And then they come right back and then what they do, they hit a three and go up five. So you can, you can't do that in this situation. I think the Lakers lost his game on their own. But you gotta understand, Oklahoma City, they got eight deep. We haven't even talked about Du Boy Wallace. Du Boy Wallace is, is a key, key ingredient to this too. The boy Mitchell comes up, but hitting deep on his Oklahoma team. And the way they play aggressive, I think it's, it's hard to beat this basketball team.
GP (Gab)
Man.
Shannon
You, you, you're absolutely right. You're absolutely right, guys. And you think about it, Chad, I think Chad had maybe like 2 points, maybe 4 points heading to that fourth quarter. And he ends up with like 16, 17 points. Shay, Shay, with Shay started getting to the free throw line, hit big shots. But I just think the thing is, is that it's just so hard because I, I know JJ wanted to play Kenard and Austin Reeves together, but the problem is that they're going to set the pick and one of those guys is going to have to guard Shay one on one and he's going to eat every single time. Go ahead onto.
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Ocho
Now I want to tell you, obviously most of the people watching the game, especially you guys, you knew how the result would be. In order for the Lakers to win this game, Unc Joe and Gary and gp, the Lakers would have had to be perfect. They would have had to damn near be perfect. And obviously the turnovers, that was their Achilles heels tonight. Obviously defensively they got beat a few times. They had no answer for Mitchell. Hell, they had no answer for goddamn Shay as well. But obviously no one's had an answer for Shay. But what Mitchell has been able to do and coming through and clutch moments and being resurgence that we didn't even see, you know, before, like this has been phenomenal. I thought, you know, for your sake, being that you went to the game and I know it was a pretty penny, I was hoping they could pull
Joe
this game off just for you.
Ocho
Listen, it would have been a good one for you too. To be able to watch them. But it was unbelievable. It was unbelievable. I mean, goddamn Oklahoma City Thunder are so strong and really have no weaknesses offensively, defensively, in transition, on the glass, on the board. I mean, there's really no answer to really stop these individuals because not only are they, not only just starting five deadly, they can go to the bench and give you whatever you need. When the starters, when the starters are out as well.
Shannon
You know what I notice guys watching them up close, not one time did I ever think somebody took a bad shot. They get whatever. They don't, they don't, they don't take bad shots. They're never in a hurry.
Joe
Yes.
Shannon
And if they can get a chance to get out in transition, they get out in transition. But you know what it is? They're fast, but they're never in a hurry. But you understand what I'm saying?
Joe
But you know what, Shannon? The reason that is, is that Shay gets whatever he wants when he gets there. And once it's that mid range game going, a lot of people are now focused on him. And then the other guys just sit where they got to sit. You may receive Chad, he always around the basket. They throw up lobs, they throw that. And then the other guys sit there in their, in their, in their comfort zone and just shoot their shots, make buckets. And that's why they don't speed up, because he has the ball in control. I think sometime to get them out of their, their situation, I think you gotta, you just gotta double, double shank sometimes.
Shannon
Yes.
Joe
Just get the, pass the ball out of his hand and then see what everybody else does. I would do that more to make it understanding because I can't beat them with him having 35 and everybody else having something else. If I can get him to have 14, 16 and everybody else around has to have a big, big time game. And the Lakers couldn't do because they don't have anybody to guard it. I would have doubled him. I would have just got the ball out of his hands because pressuring pretty well and he would have denied him the basketball. But they just didn't do that.
Shannon
Yeah.
GP (Gab)
Hey, I think when you think about it, when you look at the Lakers, bro, it seemed like, yeah, yeah, these guys shot high percentages from the field tonight. They, I mean, it's probably the best game they played. But it seems, it always seems like it's hard for them to come by buckets. You know, they always gotta make tough shots. It seems like soon as they make a tough shot, hell, okc Come down and score so easy because Shay and Mitchell, they great in isolation, bro. They great in using their body. They great in using them bumps to create a little space just to get they jumpers off. They never in a rush, bro. They have an understanding on the spots that they're trying to get to. And you can't stop them from getting to them spots. If you don't double team them, hell, this what you gonna have to deal with. And I just think the Lakers, as great as they played tonight, here you get what, 18 from Jackson Hayes, you probably ain't gonna never get that again. Six for eight. I thought it was perfect for him to win the game. But the last three minutes, the back and forth. Oh my God, you talking about basketball at his highest level. But I knew they couldn't stop okc, bro. It don't matter, you know what I mean? AR making tough buckets. Bron making tough buckets. And gp, you spoke on, you know, you spoke on another thing earlier. It's them damn careless ass turnovers that they have that lead to points, bro. I'm talking about in crucial, crucial times of the game. Under 2 minutes, 3 minutes. Man, you got to value the basketball against this OKC team because this is how, this is how they thrive. You know, their defense creates offense. Hell, they already got great offensive guys. The defense creates offense too. Too much of a juggernaut. Hell, we ain't think the Lakers gonna win this series, but we thought they.
Joe
And Joe, you've seen it too, Oklahoma. Like you said, make shots, you know, and they make crucial shots.
Shannon
Yeah.
Joe
And see, you remember when LeBron went in there and was fast and missing that, that little, that little runner and stuff like that, he's got to go get into somebody body and get to the free throw line. You know, in a situation like that, get to his body, get a free throw and then see what happens. But you know, okay, see, they go there, Shay gets in his bag and then next thing you know, he makes a great pass. And it was great. Look what Chad did when he was down there. He pumped fake, pump fake, went up, they thought he traveled and he dunked the basketball on a crucial time in the game. And they go up one. See that? That's the difference between them two teams.
GP (Gab)
Oh, yeah.
Shannon
And the thing is, you said the problem that they had tonight, that even when they doubled and got the ball out of Shay hands, hey, Mitchell hit a three, McCain hit a three. And what they do is that they play high low with the big. So they trap Shay, he throws It. Till he throws it to Hartenstein. To Hartenstein. Takes one dribble. He throws the lob. And here comes Shay hammering it down. So I thought they did. Look, I was saying the same thing. Get the ball out of Shay's hands, but. And you say let somebody else beat you? Well, I'd be damned if Mitchell didn't do it. And Kane. Kane hit a. McCain hit a couple of threes. I'm like, bro, he been sitting for, like, 10 minutes. He just come off. He come off a pick and shoot it from 25. At some point in time, Joe, GP, you know, this guy Ocho, you just tip your hat and say, man, that's just too good. Yeah, that's just too good.
Joe
Well, Shady, you know they gonna make shots. But like we say, I still have to let. Not have Shay have 35. I can't do it. I gotta let them beat me another way. You know, the team that makes them do that is the San Antonio Spurs. They make them do that. San Antonio makes other people play. And then that big boy over there block his. So hopefully, if we see that series, I think it'll be a little different. I think they're going to trap Shay a little bit more, and then we'll see what happens. And that'll be a great series, you know, for me. You know, I would love to see that again.
GP (Gab)
Hey, G.P. hold up, though. I ain't think. I didn't think Marcus Smart done a bad job. This the first game. He really got out on him, just to be honest. I mean, he shot 15 free throws. He won 12, 15 from the line. But I'm like, y', all, man. I think Shay understood the moment. And the way him and Mitchell play off each other, bro, it's unbelievable to watch because you, like, damn. We ain't even really know nothing about Mitchell until this year. If y' all just want to keep it 100 for this team to sacrifice the way they do, look at Caruso. Look at Isaiah, Joe.
Shannon
Look at.
GP (Gab)
Look at Wallace. Like, those guys, they never rush the issue, bro. They play the right way. The system is great. And like you say, when Shade's not on the court, hell, you still can't run away. And if you trap him on the pick and roll, fellas, Hardenstein is too clever when it comes to distributing the ball, making plays. He ain't gonna do nothing that's gonna hurt you. So you trap, and it goes to him. He got the hollow with big Fella. He can spray out the three. You just got way too many options. You can get up. And his touch around the basket is impeccable. He has a nice little flow game, Hardenstein. So I think OKC is tough to beat. And you. You can't. You can't just take Shay out, bro. They got too many ways.
Shannon
True, Joe. Hey, gp.
Joe
And they ain't even got Williams.
Shannon
Hey, but.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, that's what.
Shannon
Here's the thing, though. Here's the thing, though. I mean, you know, Mitchell only make $3 million a year and they got him under contract for the next two years, plus a club auction now and now. Hey, hey, hey. I like Williams, too. But y' all telling me Williams is that much better than this kid?
Joe
Well, no, he ain't that much better, but he make 230 million.
Shannon
That's my point. But just think about. But just think about if I take Mitchell 3 million and then I go get me. So I can go get. I can get a lot of players for two plus GP in ISO.
Joe
Yeah, they might.
Shannon
Hey, but look, he in the. This is a playoff. This ain't no regular season game. Now, he doing this in the playoffs.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, yeah, I agree. He did a hell of a job. He did a hell of a number on the Lakers. But I think the test will come if they have to play the spurs, because he gonna have guys who gonna be able to go off the dribble go at him and guys who can defend. You know, Lakers. We already know Lakers ain't got no damn guards who could defend outside of Marcus Smart. And he was doing a hell of a job against Shay.
Shannon
Yeah, you're right.
GP (Gab)
He can only guard one of them. You know what I mean?
Shannon
And that's the problem that they got, Joe, when you look at San Antonio, they can throw champagne at him, they can throw Vasil at him, they can throw, obviously, Castle at him. So they can throw a lot of different bodies at him. And so they don't necessarily have to trap. Because when you want to run your offense and you want to put Austin Reeves, who can score, you want to put a guy that can space the floor and Luke Kennard. The problem that you run in is that all they're going to. All he's going to do is call for the pick. Whoever's guarding their guard, he going to call for the pick. They're going to come pick the. They're going to come get the pick. And then guess what? They gotta deal with him one on one. And it's every time. And that's every time. And so I was saying trap him and get the ball out of his hands. But he was making the right decisions. He was getting the ball out of his hands, and the guys were knocking down shots. And that's when I say, you know what? Hey, guys, I done did everything I possibly could. I kicked him, I hit him. I called the cops on him. And they said, well, nothing we could do. They said, nothing we could do.
GP (Gab)
Hey, them 19 turnovers just hurt you Alter.
Shannon
Reeves had eight. He had eight by himself. I think Marcus Smart had. Marcus Smart had six. I think LeBron had four. Yeah, that's just far too many turnovers. All right, guys, I'm at the hotel now, so I'm heading up to the room. I'll see y' all in about two minutes.
GP (Gab)
All right, we'll catch you in a second. Hey, Ocho.
Ocho
Yes, sir. Talk to me.
GP (Gab)
That was a hell of a game, though, bro.
Ocho
It was. It was. But listen, Joe, I think there are a lot of people that were watching the game. Those that are fans. Fans of just NBA basketball in general. Yeah, I think they were probably hoping that the Lakers could pull this off.
Shannon
I was.
GP (Gab)
I ain't gonna lie.
Ocho
I think they were hoping.
Joe
Well, Chad, you know, they wanted to see another game, man. They don't want everybody to be. Because that San Antonio, Minnesota game, Minnesota series is gonna go get seven games. They gonna go seven. So it's gonna give Oklahoma too much rest, man, and then we gonna see what happened. I wanted to see if the Lakers go one more. Let's go one more to make. To make TV and make us see basketball, you know, Jeff, we want to see basketball, man. We didn't want to see them sweep them, man. So the other. Man, it's crazy that we see we got two sweeps, but the other two series is two.
Shannon
Two.
Joe
I'm happy Detroit lost today, so we
Shannon
can see them a little bit more.
Joe
They gonna go. They gonna go seven, I think.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, you think? Hold up, G.P. you think Minnesota and the spurs gonna go seven?
Joe
I think so. I think.
GP (Gab)
I see. My thing is, it's an even game. Hell, if we be ain't out there, we just playing pickup. But when we be out there, GP it's different.
Joe
Because Joe, he changes shots. He do things. He's so big, he can handle the basketball. He just altering a lot of things, man, and he changes the game. But when he get out, everybody else is. Whatever. You know what I'm saying?
Shannon
So, yeah, I mean, it's whatever.
Joe
And if he don't play 44, 45 minutes, they ain't gonna win. They're not Gonna win. You see, when he got kicked out the other night, they couldn't do nothing to him, man. You don't.
GP (Gab)
Nah, it's an even game when he's not out there. But when he is out there, I agree with you. He the cheat code, bro. Because not only can he score, but he's a hell of a distributor. He get guys involved because he draws so much attention. And hell, all you gotta do is throw the ball toward the rim and
Joe
he gonna go get it.
GP (Gab)
It's just too much. He puts so much pressure on you. And even if he don't block your shot. Gp. Hell, when you drive in there, he the first person you thinking about, like, damn, hold on. Can I get this off? Do I need to just kick it out? Yeah, where he at? You know what I mean? So he always got you thinking, you know, when he's out there on the floor. And when he went out the other night, you seen how the lane just opened up? Guys were just kind of getting what they wanted. You know, they were playing. Both teams playing small ball. And I felt like the advantage was for Minnesota because they got Randall. You know, Randle has to be that bull in the china shop. He got to continue to put his head down and make things happen. And I think, you know, Minnesota got a chance, but I don't know if they can win the series.
Joe
I don't think they can win the series either, Joe, but I know, I think they gonna beat them. They gonna beat them in Minnesota in Game 6. I think San Antonio will come out and probably try to destroy them in game five. So I don't like it. Shoot, man, we can get on a Sunday and see tv. Maybe we can see one. You know, that would be good to see two game sevens, man, to just see who go. Who can go to the. To their conference final. That'd be great.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, I think. My bad. Go ahead, Ojo.
Ocho
Now, I won't say, for some reason, I don't know why, Joe, and I've been right with my basketball take so far, especially during the playoffs, agp. I've been right about all my takes so far. Right. But I have a feeling, I don't know why, as much of a difference as Wemby makes when he's on that court, whether it's defensive, offensively, for some reason, I think Minnesota's gonna find a way to get it done. I don't know why I'm saying
Shannon
I
Ocho
do a GP out of gp. I don't know why, Joe. I. I have no idea. Obviously, both of you have played the game at a very high level. They, you know much more about the game than I do. The people in the chat are probably gonna laugh at me and say, ocho, please, you don't know ball, sit this one out. But for some reason, GP And Joe, I have no idea why. I just feel they're going to find a way to get it done.
Joe
Just like last year. Chad, they did it last year, man. They fooled. They got into the Western Conference final the same way. And people didn't think, if that boy, if that boy Edwards get hot or something like that, man, hey, it could happen.
Shannon
Because it's too true now.
GP (Gab)
And we didn't think it was going to be like this now.
Shannon
Nah.
GP (Gab)
But hey, but listen, listen, G.P. you know, ant man, he continue to. He's getting healthier and healthier by the day. I think that's been the key thing because to start the series, you remember now, he was coming off the bench and by game three when they got home, hell, he was starting and he been a whole totally different monster. But my thing is, when you think about it, fellas, with Wimby getting kicked out the other night, I know he pissed off about that G.P. you know, he probably gonna come out trying to prove a point, you know, put his stamp on the game hella early. So I think it's going to be a tough. I think it's going to be A tough Game 5 for Minnesota, but obviously they've won on the road. They've won in San Antonio before. I think they can. They may can do it again, but I think. I think the spurs going to be way too desperate, you know, to be able to lose games.
Joe
Not this with Joe. Joe, they're going to blow them out, Joe. I know San Antonio gonna get out. They're gonna blow them out. They gonna blow them out in San Antonio, man. Watch what I tell you. Yeah, Minnesota ain't gonna have a chance.
Shannon
But you know what, guys watching the game up close in the Y shape, because I. I've seen the Thunder play before and I've watched him before. Yeah, bro, he is so methodical. He knows. He's like, I want to get here. Now I'm gonna let you push me all over here, and I'm gonna let you. If I gotta go. Look here, all I know is I'm going to California. Now if I gotta go to New York and I gotta go to Massachusetts and come back down to drive down to Miami, cut through Georgia and Alabama, I already know all of that, but I'm Gonna get to California, and you cannot stop me, bro. Think about it. In that fourth quarter, the aim one that he hit, Marcus Smart can't play it any better than that. He played it, beat it to the spot. He challenged the shot. He hit the shot, he fouled it, and he made it. What he do? He get Jackson Hayes in a switch from three.
GP (Gab)
Boom.
Joe
Yeah.
Shannon
J. Mitchell, what'd he do? He get him in a switch. Boom. And no matter what, just. And Mitchell, man. Bro, he made some shots tonight. He made some shots tonight. I still. Cause I was at the. I was at their end where they in the second half. So I can see. I'm like, ain't no way he gonna make. How he make that with that angle.
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Shannon
And the guys around me like, man, how did he. Bro, Hell, I'm asking my damn self how he made that. I just want y' all to know y' all gonna see this outfit again. I got had it on for two hours a night. It's an lv, and I'm wearing it a damn game. So when you see. Hey, you're damn right. And I got it on again. So I'm just telling you now, keep your mouth closed. Cause I'm aware it again.
Ocho
Hey, I'm telling my. I'm telling the man. They business, man. Hey, get your wares out there. Get your money.
Shannon
I'm take Club Shachet episode in it tomorrow. So you gonna see it again in three weeks, and you're gonna see it again out somewhere. Get my money worth out of this. You damn skippy.
GP (Gab)
Hey, fellas. Hey. When you look at it, Unc Ocho GP the great ones. The great ones, bro, they. They understand the moment. They know how to get to their spots. I don't give a damn what you do, bro. You know, they know how to manipulate the game. Gp. You know this, bro. Playing at the highest level, winning title. Hey, the. The great ones aren't the great guards, bro. They know how to manipulate the game to get to wherever they want to on the floor. Hey, if you don't trap him and get the ball out of his hands, he probably gonna make.
Shannon
Yes.
Joe
Hey, Joey, just like a Michael Jordan, man. I played against that dude all my career, man. He. When it's time for him to play, they play. You know what I'm saying? They go and get their money's worth where it's at. He reminds me because of his mid range game as a young DeMar DeMar DeRozan. They right there in their mid game and they stay that way. And he makes shots. You know what I'm saying? Like I tell people, you cannot stop a score. You just got to contain him and hope that he have a bad game and then let everybody else hit him. But this Oklahoma team, they got too many weapons around them. And they may.
Shannon
Yes.
Joe
And it opens everything up. And then you can't. You can't doubling. You can't. Because if they making shots, you can't doubling. And then you gotta hope that somebody can guard him. And the Lakers didn't have nobody. Reeves and, and Canard can't guard him. You know, if they switch on him, they lunch me. That's. That's here.
Shannon
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, they can't guard it. Think about how they started the game. Lou Dorr hit three, two bomb threes. So now you like, well, damn, Caruso comes in, he makes three bomb threes. And so you say, well, damn, if we trap him and they hitting shots. Mitchell, Mitchell was 12 of 18. We've seen Mitchell play at a level, at an elite level that look, some of it is the Lakers because they can't defend. But I don't want to shortchange the guy because the guy's been playing extremely well. He didn't make the playoff roster last year. Now this man looking like, he like, hold on. I got teams out there looking like, hold on, wait a minute. He need to be on our team doing that. He don't need to be on no bench. He don't need to be on OKC's bench. He needs to be on our bench starting. He's good. Look, and Chet and those big guys, they deter you because they every but a seven foot tall and you ain't getting anything easy. Cause even when they just go straight up, you can't see the basket. I'm like, what the.
GP (Gab)
No, sir.
Shannon
But they, but they play well off because they're not a whole lot of team. They ain't but what two teams. Them in Cleveland that really play two bigs in their starting lineup. Everybody, everybody. Everybody else got a big. And then everybody basically, you know, they got two legit big 6, 6, 11, 16. Now granted, Alan, Jared Allen is only 6, 9, but he got a 75 wingspan. But these guys, these two guys are legit 7 foot tall. You watch this team. I watched them watch the. I watched the substitution pattern. They're going to keep a score on there. They're going to have three. They're going to have three defenders and a big. They're going to keep a score, three defenders and a big. So it is going to be Ludor, it's going to be Wallace, it's going to be Caruso, it's going to be some combination. And then you're going to have Shea and you're going to have one of those big. You have Hartenstein or you're going to have Chet. So they're like. So they can switch a lot of things. And those big guys move better than you think. They not slugs.
Joe
They're not slugs.
Shannon
They are not nailed to the floor.
GP (Gab)
Hey, hey. When you look at Hardenstein, he was a plus 30 tonight, fellas. He was the highest plus minus tonight. The men only had five points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three steals. He. He is such a pivotal part of what Oklahoma City does offensively and defensively. Like, he plays hard as I don't know what. And then he's a great facilitator, bro, in getting other guys involved. I think OKC got a great mixture now. I think everything is yet to be seen whether they can compete with the spurs like this because the spurs is such a juggernaut and I think it'll be a hell of a series. But obviously they got to get out of that series against the T Wolves. But OKC got everything you need, bro, from scores to hard workers, great teammates. I think from top to bottom, it's gonna be hard to beat these boys.
Joe
But Joe, the thing that they got over Everybody is all 10 of them dudes coming in. They play deep, they play on. And you know what I'm saying? And they don't let off. So you don't ever get a let off when somebody sub for somebody. So that's why it's so hard to beat this team. But think that that spurs team match up with them very, very well, athletically wise.
Shannon
Because they got defenders also.
Joe
Yeah, they got defenders too. And you remember that they.
Shannon
They won.
Joe
They won 41 in. In the. In the. In the regular receipt, but they didn't make the regular season. Now this is playoffs, so we got to see what happens. But I still think that'll be a good matchup because I think both of them teams are going to play deep. And both of them got on. All of them got dogs. And everybody got people coming off the fence too. They both got dogs. So I think I need somebody to
Shannon
explain this to me. The game time 3. The guy that has the highest field goal, the highest 34 percentage in playoff history, the guy that's leading the Lakers in threes, why the hell was he on the court? I need gp. You played Joe you played, Joe, you an all star, GPU in the hall of Fame, got Olympic gold medal. I need you to explain. Ocho is the equivalent of your best wide receiver if the same thing would happen. And you, I don't know if you guys remember, y' all remember USC played Texas and they have a 4th and 1 and Reggie Bush ain't on the field. The guy that won the high trophy, he ain't on the field. We got a big a fourth down situation. And the way y'. All. Y' all throwing the ball and Ocho ain't on the field. What the hell are we doing? Well, he's your best three point shooter.
Joe
Well, Shannon, you know what that. That was called? I think JJ really went off the defensive end because he thought that Canard couldn't guard anybody. So he didn't want to switch up because they were getting into pick and roll and they was keeping Canard in the pick and roll. And every time they got in the pick and roll with Canard, something special happened. So he couldn't guard nobody. So he said, man, if I could stop him, I can go down there and score with Reeves and them like that. And I think that's what his decision was made, you know, for defense instead of offense. And it probably wasn't a good. Good, a good choice, but that's just the way it go, man. That's what I thought he thought.
Shannon
Gp. Oh, Joe, you get the rebound, you get a stop. I'm taking a time out because I want the best. I want the best three point shooter in the game. In the game.
GP (Gab)
Yeah. Yeah.
Shannon
I gotta think about something. He hit a four point play to tie the game up. He hit big shot after big shot after big shot. He's been hitting big shots. If you look at it the four games, he's been their most consistent offensive player.
GP (Gab)
No question. No question.
Shannon
I gotta get him in the game, guys. And I understand what you're saying. It's like, okay, defense, okay, We've done what we're supposed to do. And I know you don't want to burn your time out, but I got to have him on the court. I just got him. Yeah.
GP (Gab)
Hey, look, I understand what you're saying. I think due to timing and the set that they ran when Austin Reeves kind of came up and got the ball, I don't think they wanted OKC to foul, you know what I mean? Which is why I think AR kind of, you know, he probably should have shot as soon as he caught it, but he took an extra dribble to try to get a little closer. But I, I, I mean, I get it. You know, Rui probably should have been in the game. And you're right, he been the most consistent guy, you know, from an offensive standpoint. I mean, hell, he shot the lights out this whole entire series. Yeah, I mean, he played great off run and ar. I mean, I'm like you, man. I'm watching like, damn, big shot after big shot, you know, just, just staying engaged, bro. I thought they played well enough to win offensively, man. They just can't stop no damn body. Hell, we knew that.
Shannon
The turnover, like you said, if I, first of all, if I got a, if I got a, if my offense is pedestrian, the last thing I can do is turn the ball over because it's so hard. I have to expend so much energy GP to get back into the ball game that by the time I get back, I get even with it. It's two, three minutes left. I'm out of gas.
Joe
And then Shannon. It's unnecessary turnovers. Yeah, it's throwing the ball away, man. Just throwing it up there. And they tipping the ball. One time, Smart just turned around and threw the ball and it was the interception, but nobody even there at half yards.
Shannon
I said, what are you doing? I was right there. I know what to play. And Austin Reeves tried to throw, trying to feed, tried to feed Rui from
Joe
half court, and he threw the ball underneath. Underneath.
Shannon
I'm like.
Joe
And then you remember. And then you remember, Smart did it again and they kicked the ball off the backboard and came back. You know what I'm saying? Them turnovers right there is costly, especially LeBron's turnover with only a minute to go, man. It was a minute.
Shannon
In fact, now you. Because at that point in time, what were they? Were they down?
Joe
They was only down 2, 107. 109. They could come down there and put pressure on them, but they came right back. And then you remember they hit a three and they went up five.
Shannon
Yep.
GP (Gab)
Listen, they, they playing too many damn minutes, fellas. Them dudes tired, man.
Shannon
Played 40 minutes. Rui play. He played. Rui played 43. I mean, he's trying to give Braun. The problem is, is that he's trying to give Braun a minute here. Okay? Time out there, so we'll give you a minute. They're gonna take a time out, so that'll give you extra. But he was exhausted. He was exhausted. And the thing is, look, your recovery, I don't care what anybody tell you, as you start to get older. Your recovery ain't what it once was.
Joe
Gp Absolutely. You know it, Shannon. Shoot, when you get in them 40s, man, your body you gonna go lay down, man, and that stuff gonna be
Shannon
hurting for like seven, eight days, you know, back in the. Hey, back in the day, you like, hey, oh, baby, let me catch my breath now. I. I ain't what I used to be.
Joe
Hey, man, hey, let your boy get a glass of water.
Shannon
Keep a glass of water inside the bed. It get hot, I go drink.
Joe
Now it take me 8, 7 days to get back.
Shannon
You gotta think about that, man.
Joe
And then you playing against people's bodies now and.
Shannon
Exactly, man.
Joe
What you think that's gonna happen?
Shannon
Marcus Smart tonight has six turnovers, five fouls, two buckets.
GP (Gab)
Damn.
Joe
What did Reeves have? I mean, how many turnovers? Reeves.
Shannon
Reeves had eight.
Joe
I knew it. I knew it.
Shannon
Yeah, they can't win like Reeves had eight, Marcus Smart had four, I mean, had six, LeBron had four, and Jackson Hayes had one.
GP (Gab)
Damn, it's hard to win, man. You get 19 turnovers, bro, in a game like this here, you gonna lose, bro. Cause okt, they don't turn the ball over like that. They had 11 tonight, but they normally don't turn the ball over.
Joe
Joe, they had 19 turnovers within four players.
Shannon
That's. That's the problem.
Joe
You ain't never heard of that? Nine, 19 turnovers. They four players? Come on, that's insane. You can't do that.

I think Joker's gonna be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed, he has to guard Julius Randle, and then he has to give us everything he gives us on a night to night basis on offense.
Podcast Host (Point Game)
And when it's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Shannon
Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell, get the flying he running up the court, licking his fingers

The team with the worst record in the NBA each of the previous seven drafts failed to land the top overall pick. The Washington Wizards went 1864, came out with the top pick. Washington was followed by Utah, tied for the fourth best odds at number two. The Grizzlies had the sixth best odds.
GP (Gab)
They got the third pick.
Shannon
The Bulls the ninth best odds. They got the fourth pick and the remaining Clippers, Nets, Kings, Hawks, Mavericks, Bucs, warriors, okc, Heat, Hornet. The Pacers found themselves on the wrong end of the lottery luck Sunday, losing their 2026 first round draft pick. President of basketball operation Kevin Pritchard addressed the fan base frustrated with that. The season full of losing didn't add a high draft choice thanks to trading for the LA Clippers center Zubots in February. This is what he said. I'm really sorry to all our fans. I own taking the risk. Surprise. It came up a fifth after this year I thought we'd do some luck, but please remember this team deserved a starting center to compete with the best teams next year year. We have always been resilient, Joe. Sometimes you got the dice. Hey, you roll the dice, sometimes you hit a point, sometimes you roll snake eyes. Hello, they roll snake eyes now. So basically they traded the fifth pick in the draft. Not for Jokic, not for Wemby. Zubots is a double double guy. But I don't know if anybody would have been willing to trade the fifth pick in the draft for Zubots. And that's not a knock on him. But they rolled a dice and the dice didn't roll out, didn't turn over in their favor. You like what Kevin Pritchard said? You like the risk? No risk, no reward, no risk. It no biscuit, whatever the terminology you want to use. Do you like the what The Pacers. You did? You like them going for it?
GP (Gab)
Well, listen, if you're a Pacers fan. Yeah, you pissed off, okay. But I, I ain't mad that they, you know, went out on the limb, bro, you gotta. You got you a nice big and Zubot. But this draft is so deep, Uncle Ocho. Meaning I. I think it's some, some Real. Real stars gonna come in. Gonna come into the league in this draft that I know they feel like they missed out on a golden opportunity, bro, but at the fifth pick, it's just so tough, man. It's tough.
Ocho
I don't.
GP (Gab)
I mean, I don't know what you're doing. I don't know what you're gonna do with that. If you.
Shannon
The Utah said, damn it, we were so close.
GP (Gab)
They still making. They might can package something and get the number one pick. I feel like they.
Shannon
They're not. I don't. I don't. You. You think the Wizards gonna give up the Bonza?
Ocho
Why they. Why they say.
GP (Gab)
Hold on.
Shannon
Are you saying package the number one pick? What you mean? What they giving up, man?
GP (Gab)
Maybe they give up Markerman in.
Shannon
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. We don't want to give a market. No. Okay, give us y'. All. So that means. Hold on. Washington got it.
Joe
So that means we just gonna flip.
GP (Gab)
We just gonna flip picks. We gonna give y' all one, and we just gonna take two.
Shannon
No, no, no, no, no. I need more than that. Give me eight. I need A.D. give me A.D. do you want the bo.
GP (Gab)
Can we have a serious discussion here?
Shannon
Okay, let's go.
GP (Gab)
I already got Jaren Jackson Jr. And Lori Markerman. What the hell you gonna do with A.D.
Shannon
well, I tell you what, we will get y' all. Jerry Jackson.
GP (Gab)
Listen, listen, if I'm Washington, all right, don't move on the pick, man. Go draft DeBonso, put him with Trey Young. Andy. Hell, it seemed like, hey, I seen something today. Every time you trade Anthony Davis, you get the number one pick.
Shannon
Absolutely. Is that the Mavericks? You got Cooper Flag?
GP (Gab)
He left. He left New Orleans. You got Zion?
Shannon
Yep. You just. He just. Cameron's called the Bonzo. Looking less enthusiastic about Washington winning. The lottery pick lady said, I'm excited. Obviously wanted to be the number one pick. Working to be the number one pick. So it'll be exciting. Great opportunity, Joe. How does debonza, Anthony Davis, Trey Young sound in Washington?
GP (Gab)
It sound good. It's in the Eastern Conference. Debonza is from Massachusetts, Uncle Ocho. So, hell, he back on the East Coast. He close to home. I mean, the Wizards are due, bro, for a start. And what better way or better two veterans to have Trae Young and Anthony Davis in this prolific score at the 2, 3 spot, you know, learning from these guys and them guys showing him the rope, that's kind of what. That's kind of what Dallas wanted to do with Cooper Flag.
Joe
Yes.
GP (Gab)
You know what I mean? And I feel like AJ is ready for the moment. Meaning can be a 20 plus score from day one. We need to need Trey Young to average about 12, 13 assists.
Shannon
Oh, he could do that. I definitely believe he can do a double double.
GP (Gab)
What? Oh, yeah, I know he can do a double double. I'm saying he ain't gotta be 25 and 12, but he can be anywhere from 18 to 22 a night, Uncle Ocho. And 10 to 12 assists. Hopefully he can be a double double guy. I feel like, man, that's a decent damn team if you ask me.
Shannon
It's being reported. The Wizards would report would consider trading down from the number one spot per Jake Fisher.
Joe
Oh, yeah.
Shannon
Well, Utah. Utah. Say. I tell you what they say. Look here. What y'. All, What y' all want to do? What y' all want to do? I will need. I'm gonna need your next. Your next four picks unprotected.
GP (Gab)
Hey, hey, hold on. We just. We gonna. We just gonna swap one and two. And I'm gonna send you. I'm gonna send you an all star caliber player with it. How about that?
Shannon
I want your next four unprotected lottery picks. Do you want him or not? I'm gonna do you like, hey, I'm gonna do what you call them. Say, hey, hey, the Clippers and okc. Y' all won't. Y' all want Paul George? Y' all want Paul George or not? Listen, because I want three or four unprotected lottery picks. Now, do you want him or not? I'm about to hang up.
GP (Gab)
Take your emotion down. Just listen. Just listen to me. We both. We both at the bottom of the barrel right now, okay?
Shannon
But I got no more.
GP (Gab)
I don't know why you trying to. Why you trying to take everything I got. I'm trying to help you. You can help me.
Shannon
I don't want your help. Right now you're in no position to help anybody. Huh? Right now you can't help me. I got the number one pick. So you know what? I tell you what, I tell you what I do. You know what, Joe, you got any closet space over there? Hang this up. Click. You see what I did to. About your heat? He over there trying to. He tried to tell me, babe, we both in a bad spot, you call me. So I. I'm thinking if you call me, that means you in a worse spot than me.
GP (Gab)
I'm giving you. I. I wanna.
Shannon
I'm. I'm.
GP (Gab)
I'm giving you the number two pick, which is gonna probably be Dan Peterson. And I'm gonna give you. I don't want it.
Shannon
Well, oh, if Darren Peterson gonna be so good, he falling right in your lap. Won't you just go ahead and take it if you want him so much?
GP (Gab)
Well, listen, we've invested so much in AJ that we gotta have him in Utah, you know?
Shannon
Exactly. And that's the thing. And guess what, Ocho and Joe, I know you need it. Guess what? I'm gonna get everything I part. Because guess the thing is when you make a deal in desperation, you give up more than what you should. And guess what, Utah desperate. They need. He went to high school in Utah. He went to college in Utah.
Ocho
Hey, hey, hey, hey, Uncle Joe, I don't. I don't really see them giving up that number one pick. Obviously, Washington is trying to improve. Why would you give up the number one pick? You already got 80. You got Trey Young.
Shannon
You.
Ocho
You. You wanna. You wanna change that atmosphere down in. Down there in D.C. i don't see. I don't see him doing it. I don't see him doing it.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, I don't. I don't see him doing it either. Unless Utah come with something sweet. They're gonna have to come with a sweet deal.
Shannon
I just told you I want to. I want the next three, four up. Hold on. Joe, you do realize. Think about what Orlando gave up for Desmond Bain. Four unprotected lottery pick. Yeah.
GP (Gab)
For A.J. hell yeah.
Joe
We'll give you that. We'll give you that.
Shannon
I ain't told you that. You said no.
GP (Gab)
And well, I took back to my man.
Shannon
That's why I hung up on you.
GP (Gab)
We had a discussion and now I'm coming back to the table.
Shannon
Nah, too late.
Joe
Now.
Shannon
It's five. It's five. I moved it up.
GP (Gab)
That's okay. That's okay. We'll do it. Listen, and we're gonna send you. And we're gonna send you an all star caliber player with him.
Ocho
Who.
GP (Gab)
Who you want?
Shannon
Y'?
Joe
All?
Shannon
I got nobody but AD and what you call him?
Ocho
Trey Young.
Shannon
Trey Young. So what do we. What if we take. What if we take that number one? What if we. Okay, we swap and we.
GP (Gab)
No, I'm talking about Utah. Utah gonna give you.
Shannon
Yeah, we're gonna give y'. All. Y' all want the boxes. Y' all want the opportunity. So I tell you what we do. Just so y' all don't do no monkey business, we'll select him and trade him to you. You remember how they did? You remember how Jameson and Vince Carter. And they just went. Kenny Hardaway and Chris Weber, and they just changed. Hey, come here. Your cap. Don't even put it on your head. Give him your cap. You take his cap.
GP (Gab)
Yeah. Penny Hardaway, Chris Weber, same thing.
Shannon
Yes, yes. That's what we gonna do.
GP (Gab)
Well, listen, listen. Anyway, any way we can get him in Utah, we here and, you know, hopefully we can make something happen.
Shannon
Because think about it. You got George. You like Keonte? George, Joe, he can flat out score. You put it with a point guard. You got marketing. You got a. You got a Triple J.
GP (Gab)
That Ace Bailey.
Joe
Yeah.
GP (Gab)
Hey, man. But anyway, let's say you go down to three to Memphis. Who you go with? You going with Boozer? Comparing with Eddie. Yeah. Yeah.
Shannon
I don't think you got no choice. Or what you gonna put it. You hold on. Is job there or not there?
GP (Gab)
No, job gone. He gonna be gone.
Shannon
Okay.
GP (Gab)
Point guardian, though.
Shannon
Well, if that's the case, all things being equal, I think a point. I think. I think Acuff works better there.
GP (Gab)
You think Acuff works better in Memphis? I'm gonna. They got Acuff going to the Brooklyn nets at 6. I ain't gonna lie. I like that spot. I know. Now, I know a.k.a. probably want to go higher, meaning he probably wouldn't mind being a top three pick. But if I'm keeping y', all, I don't want to see a cover in Memphis. I want to see him in the big city. I want to see him in Brooklyn.
Shannon
What about. What about Wilson? Caleb Wilson, the guy from North Carolina?
GP (Gab)
Hey, hey, he nice Joe from Chicago, number four. Yeah, they got a nice young squad over there. He gonna fit in. He gonna be a star. He gonna be an all star in this league, Uncle Ocho.
Ocho
So hold on, hold on. You got Kaylee Wilson going number four.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, I got him going for.
Ocho
So you got the Bonza going one. Who you got going to? Peterson.
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Joe
So who?
Shannon
Three Boozer.
GP (Gab)
Booze is three.
Ocho
Oh, that's right. That's right. I forgot about booze. Hey, so where Booze gonna go?
GP (Gab)
He gonna go to Memphis?
Ocho
Nah, Joe.
GP (Gab)
What you mean?
Joe
Now?
GP (Gab)
Look, they just gave up Jan Jackson. So now they. They gonna replace that with Boo.
Ocho
They gonna fit. Okay, you. You right, you right, you right, you right.
GP (Gab)
And you got big Edie over there and don't. Hold on.
Shannon
Don't Memphis get Orlando's pick, do they? Let's see. I think they get. Because they had to give up four first round picks to get Ban.
GP (Gab)
That must be a later first round pick.
Shannon
Yeah, I think.
Ocho
If I can be.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, I can't.
Shannon
Hold on. Oh, so at 14. 18.
GP (Gab)
What's that?
Shannon
Charlotte has 14 and 18. Okay, 14 and 18. So.
Joe
So when does.
Shannon
What you call them get the. When does Memphis get. Orlando Pigs. Oh, Phoenix. Because they got Desmond Bain. Detroit. No. Well, Phoenix. No, no. Bane was a free agent. He went to Houston as a free agent. Right. Remember when. Excuse me. Dylan Brooks went as a free agent. So I'm trying to figure out who. Who did they get over there? Okay. Okay.
Ocho
Yeah.
Shannon
Memphis has 3 and 16. Memphis has 3 and 16, and the 16 is from Phoenix. Okay. So they can. They can build up pretty good. They get a good, solid pick. Number three. They get another pick at 16. Yeah, I just trade y'.
GP (Gab)
All.
Shannon
They might get. I mean, get a solid player.
GP (Gab)
Yeah. I mean, because when you think about it and you look at it, I don't really think Josh did the coach system, bro. You know, he came in, he kind of changed the system. He using that overseas system.
Shannon
Yeah, yeah.
GP (Gab)
Ass cut. You know, catch and shoot and y'.
Shannon
All.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, Job box office, bro. You know what?
Ocho
Hey, you know where he gonna be at, though, Joe?
GP (Gab)
I hope he do go down there, Joe.
Ocho
He. He looking for a place down here right now, so we ain't. We ain't got nothing to worry about.
Shannon
Well, you know, hey, Joe, they're gonna. Probably won't wear Tyler hero.
Ocho
That's fine.
GP (Gab)
They're gonna get Tyler hero.
Ocho
That's fine.
Shannon
But my thing is, I don't understand. You felt. You felt. So you could have had James Harden.
GP (Gab)
Who?
Jared Ono
The Heat.
Shannon
And they didn't want to get up off Hero.
GP (Gab)
You saying they could have got James Harden win a couple of years ago
Shannon
when he was available, but they didn't want to give up Hero.
GP (Gab)
I think they wanted to. I don't think they really wanted James Harden that bad. Man.
Shannon
Can you imagine James Harden with. With. With. Bam?
GP (Gab)
I can't imagine James Harden in Miami. Yeah, that's why I can't imagine.
Shannon
Well, you know, they got. They got some nice adult entertainment.
GP (Gab)
Hey, he. Hey, James, like the party.
Joe
Okay, listen, if.
Ocho
If he could. If he could go and use it.
Shannon
And guess what? Pat Riley gonna tell him no.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, you got to tell him.
Shannon
You got to tell him no.
GP (Gab)
Hey, listen, y' all know, man, they really. They really got people in the clubs, bro. Who let people know, hey, yeah, Bam ahead of night. Just let you know, Pat. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we see.
Ocho
Hey, that's perfect. That's exactly what my boy need. That's what my Dog need coming out, coming down there from Memphis. Come on down here to Miami. We gonna make sure you are right. Cause the structure and the ecosystem and the way things work, we gonna always have eyes on you. When you think we not even watching, hey, that's what he need.
GP (Gab)
As long as you don't think Miami is paradise and it's a damn vacation, boy, you gonna have a battle.
Ocho
Hey, boy, you coming here to work, boy?
Shannon
That's it.
Joe
It.
GP (Gab)
That's it. You coming here to work. Don't be fooled by the palm trees in the water.
Ocho
No, sir.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, don't be fooled. You got this. You got to be putting in some work.
Shannon
Well, I'm all for it.
Ocho
Let's go.
Shannon
Anthony Davis is the key to getting number one pick in 2019. Anthony Davis trade. Pelican trade Anthony Davis. They get the one picking Zion in 2025. The Mavericks trade for Anthony Davis. Guess what? The number one pick. The Wizards trade for Anthony Davis. Guess what? Number one pick. So right now he's three for three.
GP (Gab)
Isn't that ironic?
Shannon
People gonna say, see, See, y'. All. Y' all think y' all slick NBA. We see what y' all doing.
GP (Gab)
Now listen, you know what? They couldn't make it obvious by by giving Utah the number one pick. So they just gave him a little wiggle room. Like, man, y' all can really make some moves, and maybe y' all can get that.
Shannon
Y' all need to work this out. What would have been messed up if OKC got the number one pick. We.
GP (Gab)
I'm glad they d there, too.
Shannon
Think about it. The Lakers got. The Lakers won the championship, and they got the number one pick with James Worthy.
GP (Gab)
Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. No. Yeah. No.
Shannon
Okay. See, OKC gets fit. So they get their own pick and Phillies pick, right? Their pick goes to Dallas. Who do they trade for? Dallas? Oh, you know. You know how the NBA, man, they be bringing five or six teams in and you get our pick in 2027 and we get your pick in 2032, they still get what you say? 17. So they get. Oh, so this the last year for the Clippers. This last year, they get the Clippers pick. Damn. Think about how long they be getting Clippers first round pick.
GP (Gab)
Who get number five pick?
Shannon
No, the Clippers. OKC get the Clippers number 12 pick. The Clippers get Indiana's number five pick.
GP (Gab)
Oh, okay. I wish now. I wish. I ain't gonna lie to y'.
Joe
All.
GP (Gab)
I wish my Hawks would have got that number four pick. I took four. I ain't be I ain't. I ain't asking for the beat one or two. But if them house could have got that number four pick and got Caleb over here.
Joe
Oh, y' all still.
Ocho
Y' all still would have been home. I'm just saying.
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Shannon
Hey, they still got what? They still got one more card up this lead joe in 2027. Okc can pick swap. So they say. You know what? We like that pic y' all got. Let's go ahead and swap this thing out right now.
GP (Gab)
Damn, you can't kill that. Cheating ain't the man they.
Shannon
Hey, you see what happened? Kawhi was a blessing and a curse because you got a superstar to come to la, but you had to give up so much and you. He's the gift that keeps. Keeps on giving. Damn.
GP (Gab)
He the gift.
Shannon
The gift that keeps.
Liberty Mutual Spokesperson
And Doug, there's nowhere I wouldn't go to help someone customize and save on car insurance with Liberty Mutual, even if it means sitting front row at a comedy show.
Jared Ono
Hey, everyone, check out this guy and his bird.
Shannon
What is this, your first date?
Tom Vogt
Oh, no.
Liberty Mutual Spokesperson
We help people customize and save on car insurance with Liberty Mutual together. We're married. Me to a human, him to a bird.
Tom Vogt
Yeah, the bird looks out of your league.
Liberty Mutual Spokesperson
Anyways, get a quote@libertymutual.com or with your local agent.
Shannon
Liberty, Liberty.
GP (Gab)
Liberty. Liberty.
Robert Smigel
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy not quite on Humor Me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier this week. My guests, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an acapella band with their between songs banter.
Podcast Host (Point Game)

Joe
We do some retirement homes.

What's up, fam?
Isaiah Thomas
It's Isaiah Thomas and I'm C.J.
Podcast Host (Point Game)
toledano. And our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Isaiah Thomas
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luka and Austin Reed and finding ways
Podcast Host (Point Game)
to win no matter what.
Isaiah Thomas
He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luka and Austin, Austin Reaves, I gotta manipulate the game.
Podcast Host (Point Game)
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Isaiah Thomas
I think Joker's gonna be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup. He has to really guard guys like Nas Reed, he has to guard Julius Randle, and then he has to give us everything he gives us on a night to night basis on offense.
Podcast Host (Point Game)
And when it's friends stop by like Quinton Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Shannon
Steve Nash would get that thing, that man, hell get the flying he running
GP (Gab)
up the court, licking his fingers while he got the ball. Like you go through a training camp
Shannon
with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court and you gonna get the ball.

So listen to Point game on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Jared Ono
Hey, I'm Jared Ono. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out help. On the Internet.
Shannon
Help.
Joe
Somebody please.
Jared Ono
But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor, I'm a comedian. And recently I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions.
Shannon
Psych.
Jared Ono
I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Cream of chicken soup.
GP (Gab)
Hey, Cream.
Shannon
Cream of chicken soup.

Shannon
So give it. Daryl Morey is out as president of basketball operations for the Philippines Sixers.
GP (Gab)
Oh, man.
Shannon
Keep Nick Nurse as their coach. Bob Myers, president of sports of Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, will lead the search for the new executive for the Sixers. And will oversee the franchise basketball department in the interim. Daryl Morris. Six seasons running, the 76ers made the playoffs five times and finished 270 and 212, but never met once, made it past the second round. Joe, how you grading his tenure?
GP (Gab)
Oh, he got there right before James got there. Well, he was there a few years
Shannon
before he brought James there.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, I don't know. It's just tough disaster. When the process.
Shannon
Wait, hey, hey.
GP (Gab)
When the process did damn work. And now you at this point, it's like, because the league getting better, teams in the east are better, you no longer at the top, you know, why
Shannon
give him an F? Because he gave Embiid an extension that he didn't have to. Embiid had two years left on his original deal. Gave. Now, wouldn't it be a lot better, Joe, if we didn't have. Embiid was a free agent. Now we got him. Now we can say, hey, do we want to do this or not? You see Ocho?
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Shannon
This would have been perfect. You signed a man, gave him three years, 192. The deal kicks in. It's like, hold on. Why are we doing this? Why? We don't have to. We got him for two more years under the current contract that he's one of the highest paid players. It made no sense. I was scratching. I'm like, well, hold on. Why are you doing this? Based on his injury history, you mean to tell me you got the guy already under contract for two years, but you're willing to go past. Go three years past the two years with his injury history? It didn't make sense. And then what? What'd you give up to get James Harden? And you let him walk? Did he walk or did he end up. Did they trade James or did he walk as a free agent?
GP (Gab)
Nah. What the hell did they do? I think they traded because he ended
Shannon
up going to Clippers.
GP (Gab)
They got Paul. Did they get Paul George back for him?
Shannon
No. Paul George came in the free agent because. Because the Clippers wouldn't give him that. That fourth year.
GP (Gab)
Absolutely. Who?
Shannon
No, not harlan. Not. Not. No, I'm talking about james harden. James harden got to philly. How did he get to. He got the. He came from the nets, right? He came from the nets.
Joe
Yeah,
Shannon
Because Daryl Mori came. First of all, ain't a whole lot of people could have said what he said and still had a job, considering how much money China spends. Yes, he said what he said. The mere fact that he got another job.
Ocho
Damn.
GP (Gab)
Hey, it's gonna be some hey, it's gonna be some big moves made. I know that.
Shannon
I agree.
GP (Gab)
It's gonna be some big moves made this summer.
Shannon
You're right. So you gave you. Yeah, that's what. That's what Philly gave up. Yeah, they gave up Ben Simmons, Andre Juman, Seth Curry and two first round picks. You think you could have used them first round picks at some point in time, Joe?
Ocho
Absolutely.
Shannon
And then guess what? The guy that you gave up, he not there. So none of what you gave up is there. James aren't gone. James called you a lie, Jay. I mean, you believed in James, but for whatever reason, James said you was gonna get it done. And then you all of a sudden it come time to get that man his money and you ain't have no money for it. Or you say you couldn't give no money.
GP (Gab)
He said he was alive some type of way. Yeah, damn.
Shannon
But that. That. I was. I was confused, Joe.
GP (Gab)
I really was.
Shannon
Ocho and Joe, I was confused because I had him for two more years and I extended him knowing his injury history. Now, he had gotten me to the NBA finals. He had won a championship. Joe. I gotta think long and hard, but I hadn't gotten out the second round. Yeah, the best shot that you had is when Kawhi hit that shot. Was he there then? He might have not even been there then. I don't think he was there. When Kawhi hit that shot, he wasn't there.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, he hit it.
Shannon
Darryl. Marty wasn't there.
Joe
He hit.
GP (Gab)
You talking about Joel Embiid?
Shannon
No, I'm saying Daryl Murray.
GP (Gab)
Oh, you said. Oh, okay.
Shannon
Yeah, no, yeah, I know. Joel Embiid was there because he hit the shot over.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that was after they gave him that. They gave him that right after he won an mvp.
Shannon
Yes.
GP (Gab)
Probably just trying to make him happy, you know, make. Let him know he has some security.
Shannon
You had two more years left on it. Damn. How much more security you want? Hell, they letting him know.
GP (Gab)
They let him know here.
Shannon
He is it.
GP (Gab)
He is the future. He is the one, Joe.
Shannon
You got security guard in the house with Uzis. Damn. What you need bomb sniffing dogs too? The hell?
GP (Gab)
Yeah, that's pretty much what they did.
Shannon
They did. And I think. I think. I'm not surprised by this move. I'll put it like that. Yeah, I don't really think anybody. NBA circles are surprised by this move either.
GP (Gab)
Hey, look, when you get to. When you get to this point and the team underachieves somebody, somebody has to Go. I knew they weren't gonna get rid of Nurse. Nick. Nurse. And hell, you can't get rid of if you just want to keep it. 100. Can't get rid of Embiid. Can't get rid of Paul George.
Shannon
Yeah, boy, look here. I think Paul George contract might be harder to get up off of them than beads.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, they. That's what I'm saying. You. So somebody has got to go. Sorry, Maury, we.
Shannon
Because guess what, ISO, what's up? Who gave these contracts?
GP (Gab)
Yeah, yeah.
Shannon
Who thought it would be a great idea, Paul George, coming off an injury to give him four years? The team, the team that he played for all those years was unwilling. That's gonna make me a little leery. It doesn't always, Joe. Cause maybe, you know, maybe they're trying to hedge. But hold on, this team, they got this guy and he like, damn, they don't want to go to four years. And you like, let me go on and jump out the window.
GP (Gab)
You thinking, what that the only. I'm just trying. It's like. It's like a. It's like a real crook or a thief. You try to put yourself in they shoes. I'm trying to put myself in Derry Moore's shoe. I'm gonna tell you what he was thinking. Damn. We really ain't but like a piece away. We get a Paul George type guy who can score and defend. We probably could win the year we get him. So, yeah, we might have to, you know, make these numbers work a little bit, but this a guy who we need to go get. And then you had Embiid out here vouching for him, trying to get him, recruiting him, huh? Yeah. Hey, if you got your best player voucher, what you gonna do? Yeah, your hands are tied. Let's see if we can go and make this happen.
Shannon
But you got to be careful with your best players recruiting. You do. You really have to be. Because you look at Jerry Krause, he never listened to anything that Jordan had to say. He didn't?
GP (Gab)
Nah. He didn't run nothing by him neither.
Shannon
Nope. So you got to be. You got to be real careful. I mean, you look.
Ocho
You don't think Mr. Cross listen to Jordan?
Shannon
Hell no. Why you think he did? You hear what he had, what he said about him at his. At his induction? Did you hear how to meet? You saw the documentary. How demeaning he would.
Joe
Hell no.
Ocho
Damn
GP (Gab)
man constructed a hell of a team, though. I ain't gonna lie to you.
Shannon
They don't. He don't get no credit. He don't get no credit. He doesn't.
GP (Gab)
You know why he don't get no credit? Because he never gave them credit. The players. He never gave the player. He said, as an organization. He always put things as an organization.
Shannon
Yes.
GP (Gab)
And versus. Versus. The product that's out there on the floor that's making you millions of dollars. That's. You know, you're right. Yeah. Selling out this damn arena night in and night out. We are. When you see that bull sign, we are global icon, bro.
Ocho
Yeah.
Shannon
Yes.
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Shannon
MJ Never made. Hey, you know what it was, Joe. Because they wouldn't give him no credit. He said, you know what? I'm putting this together. Y' all playing. I put this together. I put these pieces. I went and got Ron Harper. I went and got Dennis Rodman. I drafted Scottie Pippen. I drafted Horace Grant. I traded for this.
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Shannon
I traded oak for Bill Cartwright. I brought in these guys. It's. You don't realize how good you can be if you don't care who gets the credit.
GP (Gab)
And you never know, bro, when you see these great franchises, these great teams, you never know the turmoil that's going on behind closed doors. You thinking everything. Peaches and Cream, man, these folks hate each other, dude.
Shannon
Red Auerbach wasn't running nothing about him. Red all back doing what Red wanted to do. You right, Joe. You right. The same thing with the Patriots.
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Shannon
You think Bill Rams stuff about Tom Ocho?
Ocho
Hell, no. Now, hey, listen, I didn't know Jerry Cross was like, Bill. Now, if that's the comparison, then I understand.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, yeah.
Ocho
Nah, Bill don't play that.
Shannon
But you. But you got to. And I think the thing is, a lot of times you have to take personal feeling out of it, because if you don't take your personal feelings out of it, you'll hang on to a player a lot longer than what you should. It makes you harder and harder to get rid of said player when. Oh, he's like a son to me.
Ocho
Right.
Shannon
Coach Belichick ain't had no sons. He say, steve, my son, if you play for the Patriots, you not my son. I'm just being. I'm just being honest with you.
GP (Gab)
Yeah. Yeah.
Shannon
And that's. That's. That's how you have to look at it as a. It would be hard. It would be hard because when you around somebody that you develop relationships. That's why. And that's why in certain situations, like the military or in a corporation, you're not supposed to fraternize with subordinates. Because if you have to fire, it makes it hard. If you built up a relationship with them guys, it just does.
GP (Gab)
Yeah. Yeah.
Shannon
If you. If we got war time and you a subordinate and I'm a hire and I'm over you.
Ocho
Right?
Shannon
Man, I don't want to say. I don't want to send her son out there and I don't want to do this to this lady. It clouds your judgment.
Joe
Judgment.
Shannon
So Coach Belichick says I'm going to treat all y' all like crap. So nobody. Nobody go say he got a favorite.
Joe
I don't.
Shannon
Because you know what? I'll trade or cut. And all of you. Yeah, traded him. Vince Wolfel, Ty Law, Loyal Malloy, Rodney Harrison, Willie McGinnis, Logan Mankins, Tom. It doesn't. He didn't care. Yeah, but he felt. And it's hard to argue. Look, we know the cog that made everything orbit 12. Yes. And 12 wanted to win so bad that he overlooked all that. He's a cool guy. Yeah, we know. He.
Ocho
Hold on. Not only did he overlook that, he took less to make sure he able to construct the team around him to make sure he could win.
Joe
Yes.
Ocho
I wish players understood it, though. Hey, Joe. I don't think NFL players understand. Well, they like the fact that they're playing football. Right. I'm living my childhood dream. But they. They still don't understand the nature of the business because they always get upset when you get. When you get cut. You know, when they play long enough when they. Yeah. Oh, yeah. You gotta play long enough.
Shannon
You're gonna have enough. Play long enough.
Ocho
Yeah. It's a dirty business. Boy.
Shannon
If you hadn't got cut, that means you hadn't played long enough. But play long enough.
Ocho
Oh, yeah. It's dirty business, but I love it.
Shannon
They cut Jerry Rice. Go look, go back and look at some of the players that they've released either. Hold on. They released him? Yeah, absolutely.
Ocho
Hey, all the great.
Shannon
Play long enough because if you live long enough, everybody's gonna probably die of cancer. Well, he ain't died yet. Well, he just ain't live long enough. Something else got it before it did. And. But that's. But that's the way you have to look. That's the way you have to build. It's hard to build something to keep it going when you so close to everybody because it clouds your judgment because you don't want to get off anybody and. And Paul cry and Jerry crosses. I. I can't.
GP (Gab)
Yeah, I've got.
Shannon
I've got to make tough decisions. I just have to coach Belichick says. I've got to make tough decisions and if you, my son, I don't want anything to happen to you. It's going to cloud my judgment.
Ocho
Right?
Shannon
I just say I, I think the biggest thing was it's, it's, it's the MB thing. I think they're looking at it like, damn, we're on the hook for 192 million over the next three years and
GP (Gab)
we don't know how much he gonna play.
Shannon
We don't.
Ocho
Change of scenery does wonders.
Shannon
Oh guys. Joel Embiid reportedly hasn't seen eye to eye with the Sixers front office, even had an issue with the Jerry McCain trade, per Tony Jones. As the season progressed, it became clear that the star center didn't see eye to eye with front office and coaching staff. In the days before the February trade deadline, he employed the front office to do something other than what he deemed ducking the luxury tax and such. He, along with others in the locker room, were not happy with the decision to trade second year guard Jerry McCain to the Thunder, particularly without bringing in a plan to replace McCain in interviews over the next few games and be noticeably had to hold hold himself back from verbally criticizing the front office. On April 1, a handful of players met with members of the Philadelphia 76 coaching staff before shoot around in Washington to express concerns over certain players participation in team activities and frustration over the direction of the 76ers. Among other things, the players expressed they felt wasn't enough control of the locker room. According to those sources, the meeting was tense enough to briefly imperil the team's shoot around. Joe, what we gonna do from that?
GP (Gab)
Sound like a plea to me. Sound like hey, hey, sound like it's gonna be some, some furniture moving this summer. That's what I think. I think, I think if you Philly gp, Unc, Ocho, I think you, you have to weigh all your options. You have to weigh all your options. I mean, I don't know what the chemistry is like over there, but it don't seem great to me. And I'm saying from a fan's perspective, from a guy who watched the game and I look at body language and things of that sort, it don't look like they enjoy playing with one another. I'm just keeping it real.
Joe
And then, Joe, you gotta understand, I don't blame the coaches. Cause coaches can't say nothing because these dudes make so much money and once they come, the coach don't get fired. They ain't shipped, right? So what are we saying? Y' all gotta be accountable for yourself and Embiid. You know, he ain't been playing every season. He don't play too many games every season. But when he there, he's very effective. But listen, if that's Philly, I got. I got two guards that are off the chain. And the young fella and Maxi, they off the chains. I'll build right there. You got to think about what you're going to do with George. Paul, I mean, Paul.
Shannon
George.
Joe
Paul.
Shannon
George. Paul.
Joe
George. Paul.
GP (Gab)
Paul. George.
Joe
And then you got to understand, man, I would say, man, let's go get us some pieces. You know what I'm saying? Because they were playing.
Shannon
Well, are you saying move off? Are you saying move off? In be. I would.
Joe
That was. That just be my. That'd be my opinion to do it. Just move on, man. Make it go somewhere. I'll get nice young pieces for it, and then we can go. We can go from there. Because you don't know. It's just almost like Anthony Davis. You move on with Anthony Davis.
Shannon
You don't know if he gonna play every year.
Joe
What you gonna get out of him? So why not go get some young players that gonna play for you every night? And we have opportunities.
Shannon
Ojo. Yes.
Ocho
Hey, uncle, I got a question. When we talk about moving, right? When you think about it, not y', all, y', all three, y' all would know better than me. You know, one thing that the Lakers haven't had. They haven't had a much presence down. Down in the block, right?
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Ocho
What you think about embiId going to LA?
Shannon
You don't want to. You don't want a more expensive Anthony Davis. He plays less than AD.
GP (Gab)
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. I think if you the Lakers now, you're gonna take a look at it.
Shannon
Him and Luca.
Joe
But when he on the floor, though, Shannon, he a beast.
Shannon
When is that?
Ocho
Yeah, hey, I. I try agp.
Shannon
When is that?
Joe
That. Not. Not too often. But when he do play. When he do play, he'll.
GP (Gab)
He'll.
Joe
He'll bucket and he can get it.
GP (Gab)
Hey, and I think he'll have a resurgence as far as, like, who he wants to be as a player. A new scenery. He know he can't go to LA with this same type of, you know, attitude that he got over.
Shannon
We said the same thing, so.
Ocho
I told you.
Shannon
They say he ain't gonna. He said he gonna GP we said the same thing about eight. Say, man, he gonna go there he ain't got no choice.
Joe
Hey, but, Shannon, you shouldn't say that about him because we ain't talking about that. Whatever conversation y' all was having about that, y' all should have left that conversation because, listen, we talked about it. Who can really, really play now? Y' all should have left that conversation alone.
Shannon
I'm glad I wasn't on there that night, because I.
Joe
Hey, we ain't talking about this no more.
Ocho
Hey, hey, hey, hey, Uncle. Hey. Hey, Unc think he's slick. Trying to. He trying to get that comment to. Trying to compare goddamn eight and eight.
Shannon
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Ain't no comparison. But my thing is, is that it's hard when a guy has played 500 games, missed 500 games. GP how do I build around that?
Joe
Hey, that's why I told Philadelphia, move on. Whoa.
Shannon
Move on.
Joe
You got two good guards there. That. Then you, you know. Well, like I said, you got Paul George, who. Who is looking, okay? He'll score when he needs to. And Maxi is your main focus. Just get some pieces around there, put you a three team, team deal in there, get you something for it, and, man, y' all can go and rock. Rock out.
GP (Gab)
Hey, and I like Grimes and Uber. I think you keep those guys around. Yeah, you keep those guys around, too. But I think Embiid still got a little value on that. A team will be like, you know what? We'll take a chance. Risk. We'll risk it. Like, you know, considering, hell, when he does play, you know, he pretty decent. I just think he need to change the scenery, man.
Ocho
Yeah, I told Unc that the other night. I think a change of scenery would
Joe
do great for him. It'll be great for him even though he don't play. Let him go change the scenery, man, and get up out of there, man. If he ain't happy, man, go somewhere else else. Go somewhere else and do it. I think you'd be good in Miami.
Ocho
I know Giannis coming to Miami already.
Joe
You say Yan is coming there? Yeah, yeah, yeah, boy. You want Miami to have everybody.
Ocho
We ain't had nothing in a while. Now. I know we got bam. I'm saying we ain't had nothing in a while. I talked to Pat. Pat, Pat gonna. He gonna let. He gonna. He gonna come off the range.
Shannon
Joe, how MB Go look him in Miami with Pat Riley and his body fat.
GP (Gab)
Hold up. I'm gonna ask. G.P.
Shannon
g.P.
GP (Gab)
You know, Riles ain't going for that.
Joe
Shannon, he ain't going for that. That boy. That boy coming There, fat and all that. He will not play regardless. Everything. They had him at practice two times a day. No way possible. Hey, hey, G.P. hey, listen. I was 37, 38. They had 3% body fat.
Shannon
I said, don't tell me.
Joe
He don't tell me. You know what I'm saying?
GP (Gab)
Hey, hey, hey. Tell him about the. Tell them about the weight and body fat on Friday.
Joe
Oh, my goodness, man, he got a pinch. He got to put that thing on your man.
Shannon
Calibers on you, man.
Joe
He putting that little thing, pinch thing on you be too much on there. You gonna go get in that sauna. You doing all that. You get suspended. You getting fine. You get all that. I'm like, man, that's crazy. And then one time, three of us was over. Over body fat. He put the bikes in the middle of the floor, and he had us
Shannon
right at thanks for an hour and
Joe
30 minutes with the leads and all that on our chest. And we was getting up, pumping, man. And then we went and had practice for two hours. I said, man, this man crazy.
GP (Gab)
Hey, Ocho, he ain't lying. Let me tell y' all something. When I left Brooklyn and came to Miami, bro, you know, I was a little overweight. I was a little weight. Hey, look, you got. You already got. You already got pre practice and then you got practice. Yeah, hell, I was there before pre practice on that damn bike. GP Talking about. I was there an hour before pre practice riding the bike for a whole 45 minutes. Then I go to pre practice practice. Hell, UD D. Wade and all them, they in pre practice. Then once we get done with pre practice, that's when regular practice. Hey, man, when you leave out your ass, go to sleep.
Joe
And he is four hours easily in there. And then. And then. Look, look, look, look, fella. We still had a training camp where you get double 2A days. You know what I'm saying? He put cots in the. In the. In the locker room and said, man, y' all might as well just gon down right here, man. Cause y' all ain't gonna make it to get back. You know what I'm saying? That's how it was.
Shannon
So. So you said no embiid. No to Miami. GP
Joe
and being be accountable for the thing. They ain't coming to get him. They ain't gonna pay him that much money. And he. And he don't be playing.
Shannon
He got three years guaranteed at 192 million.
Joe
Yeah, well, they won't go. He. Pat won't go. Take that. That here. He'll be like, no, I'm off that. He won't do that here. Go.
Shannon
He'll go.
Joe
He'll go get the boy from Milwaukee before you do all that.
Shannon
Giannis.
Joe
Giannis. He'll go get Giannis before you do that, because he know Giannis gonna come play.
GP (Gab)
Yeah. Yeah.
Shannon
Wow. I'm trying to figure out where. So where is it? Where is he gonna go?
GP (Gab)
He might go to la.
Joe
If he come to la, he might as well just come to the Clippers. Just go to the Clippers? Yeah, go to the Clippers. You could put that where you could be. You could put Kawhi. Damn.
Shannon
So you want two guys that don't play a whole bunch rgp.
Joe
But Kawhi getting better, though. Shannon. Kawhi played the most. He played this year. He played well. He played almost like 60 games.
Shannon
Yeah, he missed. He missed. He didn't play till January.
Joe
Yeah, yeah. You know how that go. You know what I'm saying? But he's getting better. I think if they both play 60 games, they'll be cool.
Shannon
You do realize, But.
GP (Gab)
Damn.
Shannon
Realize. Hold on. Hey, pull up. When the last time he. You know, Only one time he's played 68 games in his NBA career.
Joe
Probably. Probably one time. Yeah.
Shannon
He won the MVP that year.
Joe
And how many. All right.
Shannon
How long you been in the league? I think probably a Dec. You figure he's missed. 485. 485. So that's what? 960. So at least 10 years.
Joe
Ooh. See, that's crazy. That's crazy to me that you. That you missed that, man. And then you. You done. You done missed more games than you done played and made all that money. Come. Come on, man.
Shannon
Hey, hey, hey.
GP (Gab)
Then when you think about it, Embiid getting 193 over the next three years. Hell, that's gonna. Hey, that means you gonna have to give up a lot to.
Joe
Yeah, that's like, What? That's. That's 60 million, 65 million. Almost $65 million a year.
Shannon
Yeah.
GP (Gab)
I don't know. Philly might have to figure that one out, gp.
Joe
Yeah, they gonna have to suck that one up, man. But I try.
Shannon
I try to get him on.
Joe
I try to. I. I try to get him up out of there. You know what I'm saying? I would have.
Shannon
You take him.
Joe
I don't know. We'll take him, though. Shoot. You got to go down there to Houston. They got some players that they can swap for him. The big boys, you know, they got some other players that can do It Houston got a lot of little things that go. And then you got that Sacramento team, they got a lot of little youngsters over there, you know, but you're gonna have to have a three team trade in it. You're gonna have to have three teams and it's gonna be a lot of picks.
Shannon
So he got drafted in 2014.
Joe
He been there for 12 years.
Shannon
So 2014 to 2025 is 2014 to 2023 is 10 years, 24 is 11 years. His 12th year, he's going to 13.
Joe
Yeah, going. Yeah, this was his 12th year. Next year.
Shannon
Yeah, going to the year 13. I don't know, GP, I let him
Joe
go, man, I would have to make a change. I just. I'm just saying make a change. I say just come with a new.
Shannon
You got.
Joe
You got young stars, you got youngsters, little guards, and you know, Shannon, that's what the league is about now.
Shannon
Guards. Check this out, guys. His first two years, he didn't play at all. So 2014-15, 15, 16, he didn't play. The next year, he played 31 games. Then he played 63, 64, 51, 51. Then the year he won the. The MVP, he played 68. The next year he played 66. Then he played 39. 19. 38. In 10 years, he's played 400. He's averaged 49 games a season.
GP (Gab)
Damn.
Shannon
So he's averaging, missing 32, 33 games a year. That's 10 years he played. So the first two years, they only count them. He didn't play at all. He did not play a single game in his first two years.
Joe
So he almost missing half of the year. Every year.
Shannon
Every year.
Ocho
Hey, but we know what he get
Joe
when he has on the court.
Shannon
Hey, that's like.
Ocho
Yeah, he's a force to be reckoned.
Shannon
Yeah, well, I know, I know I'm supposed to get a check every month, but hey, sometime it comes, sometime it don't. But when it come, it's nice. You living your life like that.
GP (Gab)
No.
Shannon
Hell no. And these teams ain't fitting to live their life like that either.
Joe
Yeah, I don't think they gonna do that. Ain't too many.
Shannon
33 games a year. Think about that, Ocho. Think about it. For wide receiver, missed five games. Let's just say one of the top wide receivers in the league. And every year. Yeah, 17 games, he missed five of them. They gonna move on.
Joe
Yeah, they gotta go. Like I said, I'm still on the bandwagon of trying a new, get a new.
GP (Gab)
But they. They ain't gonna be able to move on, man, with that big contract.
Shannon
You got to.
Joe
That's why you got to put a lot of. Joe. You got to put a lot of
Shannon
teams, and you got to take some of it on. Hey, hey, you got to take some of it on. GP And Ocho.
Joe
Yeah, you got to take.
Shannon
You got to take. I'll pay $50 million. I'd be willing to pay 50 million. That way, I get up out of 142 of it.
GP (Gab)
Yeah.
Shannon
I can't. I can't eat the. I can't eat the whole thing.
Joe
Oh, I wouldn't eat it. I wouldn't need it. You done tried it out for almost 12 years. What you want to do now? He tried it for 12 years, Ocho say.
Shannon
But you know when he. When he. When he. When he played, you know what he is. Yeah.
Ocho
Win, especially. Hey, listen, when he plays, you know what he is, because that's why he's making the money he making, and he missed all that damn time.
GP (Gab)
Hey, y' all know it. It's like.
Joe
Like.
GP (Gab)
It's like somebody else having one of your exes being like, oh, she gonna be better with me. That's how. That's how teams gonna look at it. Hey, they'd be like, oh, you know what? We'll whip him in some shape. He'll play more games with us. You know what I mean? It's teams, things like that.
Shannon
Of course.
Joe
Yeah.
Shannon
You always do. Hey, yeah, I don't care what she was with him. She ain't gonna be like that with me. Abby, Dab. I see why old boy got up off you.
Joe
Hey, you seen why?
Shannon
Hey, hey, but think about this. In 10 years, 1, 2, 3, 4. He's only played at least 60 games. Four times in 10 years.
GP (Gab)
Damn crazy. And the boy got some game. He plays. Yeah, we.
Joe
We ain't saying. We ain't talking about that. We just talk about him being healthy, his availability. Yeah, it's just like Buddy, always just like. AD he got game, too. When he. When he healthy, he obese, but he just can't stay on the floor.
Shannon
You know, AD gonna give you 20 somewhere between 22 and 25. He gonna give you somewhere between 10 and 12 rebounds. Gonna block you two and a half, three shots a game.
Joe
Yep.
GP (Gab)
Yeah. Hey, hey, if y' all ask me, I think these are personal decisions that these guys are making, too. Meaning, like, you gotta take care of yourself, bro. In the off season.
Shannon
Yeah.
GP (Gab)
Like, it's the off season here. But as a professional player, man, you gotta Always stay in some shape.
Shannon
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
GP (Gab)
You can't, you can't come into camp. You can't come into camp thinking I almost whip into some shape real quick. Hell no,
Shannon
gp. You know, when you got some height, you can put some pounds on. Easy, easy, easy, easy.
Joe
So, Joe, how many games you missed, probably, you think, in your career, bro.
GP (Gab)
Listen, hold up, GP Ocho. For over a decade, I was an iron man. You know what I mean? Like, to where I didn't miss a game. Like, I really enjoy playing the game. So I do whatever to make my body feel good or whatever sacrifices I gotta make to be able to be out there on the floor. I was always willing to do that, regardless of the circumstances or the situation I was in. Whether I was the guy or one of the guys or the third, fourth, it didn't matter to me, man. I, I, I really enjoy playing the game, so I would never cheat myself like that. So, you know, I think that was honorable in myself just by being mentioned being an iron man, a guy who done played over countless amount of games and never missed a game. So, you know, I always relish that, bro. Like, I, I tried to keep that pace.
Joe
And I tell you to see, it's a different mindset. I played 17 seasons and I only missed 25 games.
Shannon
Damn.
Joe
That's all I miss, 25 games. 17 seasons you gotta enjoy. For six years, I played 82 straight.
Shannon
Yeah, Joe. Joe, from 03 through 06, Joe never missed a game. And then he played 57, and then he went 82, 79, 76, 72, 60, 72, 79, 80, 81, 57, 24, 78, 55, 32, 23, balling like a dog.
Ocho
Okay, Joe, you. Hey, Joe, you was a little durable out there, huh?
GP (Gab)
Yeah, man. Hey, hey, hey, hey.
Shannon
The best ability is what? Availability. Availability.
GP (Gab)
Hello.
Ocho
Hey. Yeah, Joe, I hope, I hope you're available soon, too.
GP (Gab)
I'm gonna be. I'm gonna be available. Get off of your ass. I don't want to hear no excuse me tonight, man. I'm trying to be cool. It's three something in the morning. Don't play with me tonight, man.
Ocho
Hey, hey, hey, Joe, that's the liquor talking. You can't do nothing with me in your.
Joe
Oh, Chad, you talking big, big money.
Ocho
Hey, gp. Hey, hey, gp. Man, I'm finna wash that, man.
Joe
Gp.
GP (Gab)
Gp.
Joe
Gp.
GP (Gab)
That man garbage, man.
Joe
Watch it. I watch that, man. Every, Every summer on this big three, boy, he get.
Ocho
Hey, gp. Listen, I seen him play, gp. I know all his moves. I know his mannerisms. I know what he gonna do when he going left. I know when he going right. Gp One thing about it, I got a gift, right? I got a gift for Gab, and I'mma.
Joe
Gab?
Shannon
You talking about the Gab?
Ocho
I'm having my elbowing like whip.
Joe
Chad. I gotta see this one, man, because that, that, that they call that. They call him buckets. Straight Buckets.
Ocho
Hey, you know what they call me, huh? The ISO stopper.
Joe
Oh, you Joe ISO. You stopping Joe ISO.
GP (Gab)
Hey, gp. Gp, I got something for his ass. Don't worry about it. I got something for his ass.
