Bishop B
Cool and nasty. It's midnight. God damn.
DJ Wells
We in the crack, baby.
Bishop B
We here.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
DJ Wells
You know what I'm saying? 24 hours we got on off days. No said Dre. Listen, I know you keep your feets right, but have you ever seen the black forces with the white laces?
Andre Drummond
Nah. I like them though. Trying to get some tapped in. Yeah, I got you, doggy right, bro.
Bishop B
I got you. I got you. We gonna do the red laces too. We gonna send them out to Philadelphia.
Young Nacho
Disrespect your feet. Keep it classy, bro. Keep it.
Bishop B
Keep it flagging weight N I Got you draft problem.
Andre Drummond
What made you do that?
Bishop B
Just some up back in the day, bro. I used to hoop in the middies. Like with straps, paws. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like so. And then I just put white laces in them. And then so.
DJ Wells
All hooping in the mid forces is dangerous.
Young Nacho
I did that too, though.
Andre Drummond
She Wallace?
Bishop B
Yeah. He who turned the Ultron. That's a different beat.
DJ Wells
Yeah, the orthopedic joints for sure. To my right, my dog, Young Nacho. Young Teague. How you what?
Young Nacho
I'm chilling, bro. Just lost a tough game, but shout out to my boys at pike, man, y'all. Y'all fall hard. I'm proud of y'all, but I'm chilling, man. Excited. Glad we got another, you know, another player in the building. Legend in his own right, you know, UConn stand out. I'm excited for show, man. You know, people always give me a slap for saying I'm excited that we got a guest. I'm like, damn, I'm supposed to be mad.
DJ Wells
We're happy with this show before, man, y'all know what time it is, man? For sure, man. Listen, man, we got a two time all star, 13 year pro, one of the best rebounders to ever play the game of basketball, man.
Young Nacho
City the best.
DJ Wells
Yeah, talk your. Come on, man. Stats don't lie, man. Andre Drummond in the building, Big dog. Appreciate you sliding on us, bro.
Andre Drummond
Appreciate you, man.
Young Nacho
Hold on.
Bishop B
You said you're the best ever.
Andre Drummond
What I said over robing. Damn.
Bishop B
I don't know about Freaky Rob.
Andre Drummond
Freaky Rob is crazy.
Young Nacho
That's crazy.
Bishop B
No, we. We'll chop it up though. Let's get into it.
Young Nacho
We get to it. Dennis, Rob is crazy. 40 re. You used to have some crazy stat lines. Zero points for sure. Zero points. But jokes, rebound, stat lines be crazy.
Andre Drummond
20 rebounds are 20 points. He doing 20 rebounds with no points. That's all.
Bishop B
Oh, I respect the lineage.
Andre Drummond
But is that is. Is.
Bishop B
Is Rodman who you Bottle Joe?
Andre Drummond
No.
Bishop B
Who turned you into a rebounding ass, bro?
Andre Drummond
My rookie year when I came in, bro, I called my high school coach and I asked him, I'm like, yo, like, how do I stay? I'm here. Like, how do I stay?
Bishop B
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
So he's like, yo, you gotta find something that you are good at and master that. So I started looking at all the stats, just probably midway through the season, like probably around right now. And I seen like the guys who average the most points, most rebound with blocks, steals and shit. And I seen the rebounds, and the Most was like 12, five at the time, I think it was Dwight.
Bishop B
Oh, okay.
Andre Drummond
And I was averaging like 9.8 as a rookie.
Bishop B
I'm like, pretty good.
Andre Drummond
This isn't a sexy stat. I could be the best to do it if I really put my mind to it. If I'm already averaging nine by not trying, huh? I ain't worried about the numbers. Damn.
DJ Wells
Freaky White was about to hit that score. I don't know who I came up.
Andre Drummond
With the real numbers.
Young Nacho
He right. 32 is the best 32nd best rebounder ever.
Andre Drummond
Hey, we'll take it.
Bishop B
But you.
Andre Drummond
That's fine.
Bishop B
Well, but you had crazy stats in like high school though, too.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, like.
Young Nacho
But.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, but to touch on the rest of that topic, just I seen the stat line. I said, you know, I'm trying to be the best there is.
Bishop B
Yeah. So I. I just meant so far as like, when you was like coming up too, like I. With that story, of course. But I'm saying, like, it just came naturally, bro. Okay.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, it's like a natural. Natural gift of just like having a knack of where the balls.
Bishop B
Because I found out about like your sophomore year. This thing got. I thought you started your journey then.
Advertiser
You know what I mean?
Bishop B
Cause I felt like you was.
Andre Drummond
I don't.
Bishop B
I can't remember. Cause I was telling them before, like, you was known to me before Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis came on a little later.
Andre Drummond
I feel like he had that growth spurt.
DJ Wells
Exactly.
Bishop B
So I feel like you was like one of the first ones that was like high on the totem pole. I think your like, sophomore year where you was really like, killing in high school.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, that's when it started for me. Sophomore year. Sophomore year. Junior year.
Bishop B
Yeah. Okay. Cuz your stats was then, so. To hear you say it started in the league is kind of crazy.
DJ Wells
Redacted is the better word for that situation.
Young Nacho
Stats was.
DJ Wells
Yeah, redacted.
Bishop B
Listen, man, shout out to that community, bro.
Andre Drummond
I'm the global ambassador of special limits. You can't do that.
Bishop B
Yeah, see, I mean, that's just figure of speech. But yeah, respect to everybody.
Andre Drummond
That's.
DJ Wells
There we go. See, that's how you correct them. Live on here, man. Thank you.
Bishop B
Basketball talk. I wouldn't know.
DJ Wells
Yeah, no smut. No smut. Listen, we know you with the Sixers right now. We want to take it back to the beginning, man. Listen, Eric is talking, you know what I'm saying, on the podcast here. Shout out to Moog. You know what I'm saying? Backward connection. This is, you know what I'm saying? The Feba squad that I was on, you know what I'm saying? You 17, they had a conversation. Him and Quinn Cook was going back and forth about who was getting killed by Kyrie, you know what I'm saying? Now, you were present with this, you know what I'm saying, as a party. You have no bias in this. What really took place. Do you even remember that happening? Or was it just Kyrie was killing everybody? Cause we try to get to the bottom of this.
Andre Drummond
Whatever Kyrie did that morning, like, he was letting people have it the entire day, bro. Who was garden fucking? James Cole. Everybody was just. It was just one of them days, man. You know, Kai's a special talent. And, yes, sir, when he gets into that mode of just, like, him being himself, like, it's fun to watch, bro. Sometimes you just gotta stand to a side and just be like, damn, this nigga is really good at basketball.
Young Nacho
He had 50 on us when we. He had 50 on me in Brooklyn his first game in Brookly.
Bishop B
Did you see that in him, though, back then? Like, damn, he gonna be a star now.
Andre Drummond
I mean, I played against Kai in high school, too, so I got to see him then to him going to college, you know, him getting hurt early, then obviously being in the league with him at the same time. And some of the shit, some of the stuff he does, bro, it's just. You can't teach that, bro.
Young Nacho
Yeah, he unbelievable talent for sure.
Bishop B
So he got a neutral answer.
Young Nacho
Yeah, he kept.
DJ Wells
Yeah, we try to get some problem.
Bishop B
Quinn, you safe on this pile?
DJ Wells
Oh, yeah. Shout out to Quinn.
Young Nacho
Quinn, put it on, Marquez.
Andre Drummond
Marcus, put it on my thr marquis.
DJ Wells
That's dopey for sure.
Young Nacho
Put it on, Marcus.
Andre Drummond
Marcus, put it on. Queen.
DJ Wells
Y'all gonna share that?
Andre Drummond
Yeah, we share the torture that day.
Bishop B
Yeah.
DJ Wells
But that team alone, y'all, was fire. Shout out to Brad. Bill, man.
Andre Drummond
Bill. Jason Randle was on our team. Johnny O'Brien, McAdoo. Yeah, who else am I missing? Tony Parker.
DJ Wells
Gilchrist is on that team, too, right?
Andre Drummond
Gilchrist was on that team, too.
Young Nacho
Damn near everybody almost made the league on that team. It was close to it.
Bishop B
Yeah. McAdoo, is that who went to. Did he go to North Carolina? Damn, I remember him.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
Young Nacho
That's crazy.
Andre Drummond
Young James, was he.
Young Nacho
He played for the warriors for a little bit.
Bishop B
Okay. Yeah, I was overthinking about that. Oh, yeah. I was loaded.
Andre Drummond
We had a good team.
DJ Wells
Yeah. Being started off, man, talking about your high school days, obviously you was killing, man. Let's talk about how you got to.
Young Nacho
UConn man, are you the greatest walk on ever? Cause we had a guy named John Lucas.
Andre Drummond
John Lucas, my dog. Yeah.
Young Nacho
He walked on at Oklahoma State. He said he's the greatest walk on ever. And I heard debate. Yeah.
Andre Drummond
I don't know what his stat line was or what.
Young Nacho
He ended up winning player of the year.
DJ Wells
Oh, yeah, he can have that.
Bishop B
My dog. But hell no. Hell no. It's Scotty Pippen, bro.
Andre Drummond
Oh, Scotty, too. He damn sure didn't.
Bishop B
Nah, it's got shout out to Luke. But you got a great, great origin story, great childhood.
Andre Drummond
My.
Bishop B
But I'm sleep on that. Okay. Stage.
Andre Drummond
You're not going for it.
Bishop B
I'm not, bro.
Young Nacho
No, you right.
DJ Wells
Yeah, Scotty was.
Andre Drummond
Scotty was different.
Bishop B
Now how did you land at you?
Andre Drummond
No, it actually lives.
DJ Wells
At Baylor.
Andre Drummond
No way.
Bishop B
Wow.
DJ Wells
They was down there committing robbery. If she was a walk on.
Andre Drummond
Hey, my boy. Getting done in real time. I like this.
Young Nacho
He walked on. That's crazy. Like, that's crazy.
Andre Drummond
I didn't know that.
Young Nacho
But how did you like. What happened to make you a walk on a UConn?
Andre Drummond
Well, I graduated. I graduated high school and my. So I didn't go to school with my. My friends in public school. I went to a boarding school, St. Thomas Moore. And after I graduated, like all my boys, we all wanted to, like, finish school together and just go our separate ways from there, but my family had other plans for me. I think it was maybe in August, late August, right before school started, and I'm getting ready to decide where I'm gonna go. And my family had an intervention with me in the basement on some Godfather shit. Lights was dim and all that. My aunt's uncles, my mom there, sister there. And it kind of just pulled me aside and said, listen, we don't think you should go back to high school. So I'm like, well, we already got the plan. I picked the school. You know, we're all going now. You picking the college. So I'm like, all right, so we picking the college. Where am I going? So I love North Carolina. At the time, North Carolina was my favorite team. Kentucky was another.
Bishop B
How about that?
Andre Drummond
John Caliper to this day still says I'm one of the only players that he didn't get that he went after.
Bishop B
Yeah, but you made a good decision, though.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, I went to UConn, man. So I chose UConn. They didn't have any scholarships. I still wanted to go anyway, so I took a. Took a long out. I knew I wasn't staying longer than a year Anyway, so I'll pay this back at some point in time.
DJ Wells
No, for sure.
Young Nacho
So, like, what made you pick Yukon, though? Like, what was it?
Andre Drummond
I'm from Connecticut.
Young Nacho
Yeah, I know that. I didn't know if it was like. I just wanted to say Connecticut.
Andre Drummond
I already had the history there. Like, seeing them as a kid going to the games, seeing Jerome Dyson and Hashim to be. Get their hair braided by my. By my aunt as a kid.
DJ Wells
So I'm like, damn, Jerome Dyson.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. Yeah. I'm already part of the family, so. And Stanley Robinson, two rushes.
Young Nacho
So recipes sticks.
Bishop B
Ashamed to be used to get his hair braided.
Young Nacho
Yeah, she had braids.
Andre Drummond
Did he? Yeah, my aunt used to do it.
Bishop B
Damn. Shout out to auntie. She got some hands on her brain to be here is crazy.
Andre Drummond
Shout out to me.
Bishop B
God damn.
DJ Wells
Sure. Yeah. That Yukon lady is just different, man.
Young Nacho
So you could have went to Kentucky with Marcus A.D. gilly.
Bishop B
She Cold, bro.
Young Nacho
Damn. That would have had a yay squad was already crazy.
DJ Wells
That would have been you. Anthony Davis in college, bro.
Young Nacho
Would have been. It would have been no rebound.
Andre Drummond
Beat everybody by 40, bro.
Young Nacho
She would have been crazy.
Bishop B
Both y on the defensive end. Sick. It was another school, though. So it was just North Carolina.
Andre Drummond
Florida was another one. Okay. Was another one for me too.
Bishop B
Okay.
Andre Drummond
And Texas was the last one.
Bishop B
All right.
Young Nacho
Damn.
DJ Wells
Michael.
Andre Drummond
Bobby.
Young Nacho
I love UConn. When I was going.
Andre Drummond
When I was in high school, man.
Bishop B
Where you rank yourself as bigs in UConn history.
Andre Drummond
I just stayed in long enough to even be in the ranking.
Bishop B
Okay.
Andre Drummond
In terms of NBA career, I guess you could put myself up there somewhere. But college career, I didn't stay long.
Bishop B
I just. They breeded a lot of bigs. Yeah. That's underrated.
Andre Drummond
You know what I mean?
Young Nacho
Well, Mecca probably the best.
Andre Drummond
Sure.
Young Nacho
Dennis.
Andre Drummond
I'm a shame.
Young Nacho
Shame is up there. I seem to be ashamed.
Bishop B
Charlieville. No waiver.
Young Nacho
One Charlie for sure.
Andre Drummond
What's the Jeff, Adrian.
Young Nacho
What's the Boom.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
Young Nacho
Damn.
Bishop B
All them played damn near the same time bigs that front court.
Young Nacho
They had some killers at it. They had some killers. You can always keep a killer or two.
DJ Wells
I agree. I know a lot of people there. They need more respect.
Young Nacho
Even the dude that's a. What's Dominic? Yeah, he killed that kind of kid, too.
Bishop B
Oh, that's hard.
DJ Wells
That's a program. I mean, obviously they get that respect. But like you said, as far as putting up banners and consistency, UConn, no question. Whooping.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
DJ Wells
Kimba got one. Baz got one. Who?
Young Nacho
Yeah. Who's the greatest player from UConn? Would you say it's Ray Allen, or.
Andre Drummond
Would you say, ooh, greatest player. Yeah, that's tough, man. We have. We have a lot of guys, man.
Young Nacho
All right, while they was at UConn, who you think was the best?
Andre Drummond
I mean, I think for me, personally, for what I've seen, I would say Kimba, because I got to witness, like, what he did.
Young Nacho
Yeah, he was crazy.
Andre Drummond
I mean, Cardi.
DJ Wells
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
The list of guys that UConn has, I mean, it's hard to really choose the greatest of all time. You got Ray. You got Rudy.
Young Nacho
I'm gonna go with Karan.
Andre Drummond
Butler had a crazy run.
DJ Wells
You want crying over Kimba?
Young Nacho
I love Kimba to death. Kimba got two. Well, Kimber got two chips, right? Or that's bozo.
DJ Wells
No, he got one.
Young Nacho
Karam Butler. He just made UConn look cool to me. Like, I knew Ray. I ain't see Ray Allen like that. You know what I mean? 96. I seen him at Iverson, but I ain't watch it like that. I knew Rip Hamilton.
Bishop B
Karan is more relatable to him, but.
Young Nacho
Karan, I feel like I'm from the inner city. I feel like he got in trouble. I know he got in trouble, but, yeah, I'm like, yeah, he made me want to go to him. And Ben Gordon was cold, too. I wore a T shirt because Ben Gordon. But Kar Buller just really, like, was like, the guy.
DJ Wells
My thing with Kimba is just that run he had in the Big east to take that and then still go get a chip. Like, he really, like. Yeah, that's tough.
Bishop B
What's your greatest game that you seen him play with?
Andre Drummond
Like, that Garden game?
Young Nacho
Yeah, he went crazy.
Bishop B
That was the best that you ever.
Young Nacho
Shout out to my boy, G. He on my pro.
Bishop B
Yeah, he from Indiana.
Young Nacho
My pro am talking about, bro.
Andre Drummond
He scored on.
Young Nacho
Yeah, he on my pro am team. We gonna get right. We're gonna get right, though.
Andre Drummond
Every year, forever.
Bishop B
Yeah, he part of March Madness, Future madness.
DJ Wells
He's on One Shot a Moment.
Andre Drummond
Every single year.
Young Nacho
He's One Shot a moment legend. But it's all good, G. Happens to.
Andre Drummond
The best of us.
DJ Wells
Speaking of UConn days, man, you, who was somebody there that, like, I mean, obviously had a time in league, but people don't give him his just due to how cold he was in college. Hey, Jaylam was crazy.
Andre Drummond
Jay Lamb was crazy.
DJ Wells
Going crazy at UConn.
Young Nacho
Yeah, facts.
Andre Drummond
Jay Lamb.
Bishop B
He fuck my boys up.
Young Nacho
I fuck with his whole campaign, man. Even how he rocking now.
Andre Drummond
Smooth. Criminal, man.
Advertiser
I like that.
Young Nacho
You a smart man.
Andre Drummond
Hey, I said that shit to him the other day, too, too, man. You a smart man, my boy.
Young Nacho
I don't talk about people, personal life, but.
Andre Drummond
But come on, man.
DJ Wells
Hey, come on, man.
Young Nacho
Tap in. If y'all know.
Andre Drummond
Y'all know that boy here.
Bishop B
Go.
Young Nacho
Smart man. Boy.
Bishop B
N. Jaylen was. He was raw. He was raw. Damn near X factor on that team for sure.
DJ Wells
For sure. And then that year, it was them, so that was going crazy.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, Bass was going crazy.
Bishop B
It be my guys, man. I was Ryan Bo.
DJ Wells
Right? For sure.
Young Nacho
Crazy.
Andre Drummond
Bounce, shelving.
Bishop B
I was supposed to win.
Young Nacho
Yeah, that's crazy.
DJ Wells
I was at Butler. Me and him met because of Butler. But I was at Butler. Student at the time. I remember that. National championship.
Bishop B
Yeah, I drove all the way to Houston.
Andre Drummond
I was there for that, too.
Bishop B
Yeah, you was tripping.
Young Nacho
You drove to Houston. See that? That game was awful. I was there, too.
Bishop B
Yeah. I went to the Final Four. And I saw what was the. My boys, they was late. We was in the club with the VCU boy. They was out of pocket.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Bishop B
I knew they was gonna lose.
Young Nacho
That's how we was in Miami.
Bishop B
I said, well, you said, I ain't even mad at y'all. Y'all ain't supposed to be here anyway.
Young Nacho
Here.
Bishop B
Go shot.
DJ Wells
You sabotaging, taking over. Yeah, I see the vibes.
Young Nacho
Take Porter.
Bishop B
Don'T put that sweat over here. Get well, Su.
DJ Wells
But how was it your year? You come. Obviously, it was phosphorus, but how was it?
Andre Drummond
It was fast, bro. It was fast. Like, the moment I stepped on campus, I felt like I was walking off.

Because, like, once I got there, I got red flagged, obviously, because why is the number one player in the nation taking a loan out to pay for school?
DJ Wells
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
So I got red flagged for about a week or two. By the time I got back, you know, season was about to start. I had to go to class, and next thing you know, we lost in the first round, and I was walking across the stage for the draft.
Bishop B
So you knew you was one and done, though, or.
Andre Drummond
You know what? I wanted to stay, but the only reason, the only thing that kept me back from staying was we got banned for the tournament.
DJ Wells
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
That next season. So that was really the only thing that if we didn't get banned, I would have stayed. What?
Young Nacho
Nah, you can't play with the.
DJ Wells
Go to the league, y'all know, But.
Andre Drummond
I didn't know I was gonna go that high at that point.
Young Nacho
You did.
Andre Drummond
I knew I was gonna go lottery. I wanted to go, like, one or two.
Young Nacho
Oh, yeah. Respect.
Andre Drummond
But I knew I was going lottery. I'm like, maybe if I go another year, I can get myself up there.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
DJ Wells
So we know, obviously, you know, you landed in Detroit, but was there any other places you thought you was gonna go or maybe had any insight, thought who was gonna pick you up?
Andre Drummond
Sacramento. Sacramento and Portland were the two teams I. Good workouts for. I didn't even work out for Detroit, which is crazy. I worked out for them at, like, midnight the night before the draft. They came in like, Joe Dumars came in. I worked out for them in New York.
Bishop B
Damn.
DJ Wells
That's crazy. You know what I'm saying? Like, one of the biggest decisions in your life, you gotta hoop at midnight. Like, bro, you can't hit me up.
Andre Drummond
Early in the day, bro, in my sleep. My agent called me, said, get your ass up. You gotta work out. I said, for who? Except for Detroit. I said, they ninth. You said. We said we was going on lower than six.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
How am I working off of nine? Four. So he's like, yo, it's a good idea. Just do it just in case. I'm like, all right, bet. Let's do it.
Young Nacho
Was it bittersweet because you said you thought you was going six and below?
Andre Drummond
Yeah. I mean, getting drafted is always. I mean, it's. There's nothing like it, bro. You can never explain that feeling, hearing your name being called.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
People play video games to hear their name called. Like, I got to really do it in real life.
Young Nacho
Yeah. Facts.
Andre Drummond
You know what I'M saying. So it was a surreal moment because I knew my life was going to change forever. Like, I wasn't just Andre Drummond from Middletown, Connecticut. Like, I'm Andre Drummond, the NBA player who made it from this small town in Connecticut. So a lot of pressure came with it, too, but I was ready for it and grateful for the opportunity.
Bishop B
How many teams did you work out for?
Andre Drummond
Three.
Bishop B
Okay.
Andre Drummond
Yours was Cleveland, Sack and Portland.
Bishop B
Oh, okay.
DJ Wells
And y'all had a. That's a hell of a draft y'all had, too.
Young Nacho
Yeah, Great draft.
DJ Wells
Great draft. Especially you look at that draft. You got Chris Milton and Draymond. Second round, second round. Like, that's crazy.
Young Nacho
Damn.
Bishop B
Chris Milton, second round took him.
Andre Drummond
Detroit took him.
Young Nacho
Second round.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
Young Nacho
Could be hall of Famers. They could be hall of Famers. Draymond and Chris Middleton could probably make the hall of Fame.
Bishop B
I ain't bad at all.
DJ Wells
I'm definitely not mad at Chris.
Bishop B
He's straight out of pocket. Y'all traded him as soon as y'all got him?
Andre Drummond
Yeah, damn near, yeah.
Bishop B
Wow, bro.
Andre Drummond
We took him for. Was that Brandon Jennings trade?
Young Nacho
Yeah. Shout out to B. Jennings, one of.
Andre Drummond
My favorite pgs I played with, man.
Young Nacho
He got me to move. He got my money, so I always love Brendan for that.
Bishop B
Oh, okay. So that's all.
DJ Wells
Yeah.
Bishop B
That's hard.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Bishop B
Damn. That's crazy, bro. That's why Child will be Genesis.
Young Nacho
So you get there. Your rookie year was stamping Gunny, your coach at that time?
Andre Drummond
No, I had Lawrence Frank Lawrence. Oh, damn. They're like unison. Oh.
DJ Wells
Lawrence Frank the executive is different than Lawrence Frank the coach, by the way.
Young Nacho
No, I remember when I was a free agent, the Clippers. I was about to go to the Clippers. He was like, he's not gonna play. I don't like him. Like, damn. Well, Frank, give me a chance. I'm out of here.
Bishop B
Dad, what you do to Frank, bro?
Young Nacho
I don't know. I think I was talking shit to him when he was a coach in Jersey, probably.
Bishop B
But that's crazy, bro.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
Bishop B
All over that.
Young Nacho
No shout out to him.
DJ Wells
Don't nobody like it, really.
Andre Drummond
But I played for. I played for six coaches my time in Detroit. Yeah, we was getting them up, getting off of coaches.
Young Nacho
How long you played for Frank?
Andre Drummond
Season.
DJ Wells
Damn.
Young Nacho
And then Stan came.
Andre Drummond
No, Stan didn't come till. Damn.
Young Nacho
Who was up?
Andre Drummond
We had Mo Cheeks after John Lord. So it was Lawrence, Frank, John Lore, Mo Cheeks, Stamin, Gunny, Dwayne Casey, I.
DJ Wells
Guess I remember Dwayne Casey.
Young Nacho
I remember Dwayne Casey. Yeah.
Andre Drummond
Damn.
Bishop B
How many years was you in Detroit?
Andre Drummond
Eight years. Oh, okay.
Bishop B
You need some time?
Young Nacho
I don't remember. Who was y'all coach when I hit you with that move?
Andre Drummond
Damn. Yeah, it was a move.
Young Nacho
I hit him with a fake bounce pass.
Andre Drummond
Oh, yeah. You know I was trying to reach you.
Young Nacho
Yeah, he was reaching.
Andre Drummond
He got good hands.
Young Nacho
So he. When he played pick and rolls, he be trying to rip the guard. Yeah, he got good hands. So I faked like I was gonna pass it to the bed, and he went for it.
Andre Drummond
Killed my ass.
Young Nacho
Yeah, I was smiling like a motherfucker. Nah, but he be ripping guards all the time. He go down and dunk that shit. But now you and Brandon Jennings in that pick and roll, y'all throwing it off the backboard.
Andre Drummond
Shit.
Young Nacho
I like when y'all got together. That shit was dope, man.
DJ Wells
What's so crazy about that is there is an infamous Pacers game that y'all whooped our ass. And that's all Brandon just did, was throw lives to you. It was crazy. Louise gonna find the clip. Always resurfacing, bro. Y'all was murdering us. And all they was doing was throwing lives. I was like, God damn, you gotta pick your poison.
Andre Drummond
You gonna let him score? Let me score. We didn't.
DJ Wells
Obviously, it was either way. It was. We had no conceit on that situation. Y'all was killing us.
Young Nacho
Oh, God. I remember when he was. When he first came in the league, you know, talking to, like, the older guys. They like, he's strong as. I'm like, the dude only like 19. They like, no, I mean, he grown. He older than that. Like, he's so strong. So when he was set screens, like, he slipped. He slipped out of him a lot. And go get the live. So I used to be scared. Cause everybody talk about how strong he is. I'm like, man, don't hit me. Don't hit me. Don't hit me. And he had slipped out, like, thank God. But I wasn't playing no defense. I was like, please don't hit me, please. Here, go get the live. But nah, y'all pick and roll was crazy. I just want to ask you, okay? You was there when Josh Smith got there. Smooth. And y'all had Greg Monroe.
Andre Drummond
That was a big ass team, bro.
DJ Wells
That was one of the sickest.
Andre Drummond
That was the sickest team. That's one of the worst lineup, yo, I started lineup was Chauncey Villas, Contavious, Caldwell Pope, Josh Smith, Greg Moreau and myself.
Bishop B
Damn, Y'all straight defensive minded, bro.
Andre Drummond
Y'all damn it.
Bishop B
Atlanta Celtics.
DJ Wells
Stan was on bullshit.
Young Nacho
They ass move at the three. I said, oh, we're good. I love Josh to death, but there's no way he's played a three, bro.
Bishop B
Ain't no way. I was running up and down too.
Andre Drummond
Too big long. We made that work though.
Young Nacho
We made that work, man. They had to take. They had to get smoother off the bench, man.
Andre Drummond
Put t sh on in there.
Bishop B
Yeah, yeah, that made more sense though.
Young Nacho
Yeah, he's a natural three. Smooth planner.
Bishop B
Well, smooth run the floor.
Young Nacho
Yeah, but smooth. Trying to make shooting threes in that area though.
Bishop B
Oh, that was all shout out to smooth. Keep shooting. Work on your game.
Andre Drummond
Oh, my God.
DJ Wells
But you know, you know, that was.
Young Nacho
Like no matter the smooth man, but that was not the lineup. I was like, yeah, this ain't going to last long.
Andre Drummond
Not a lot of space.
DJ Wells
I want to get back to that. But you talking about the physicality factor, how strong you were. How was your adjustment to the NBA from college?
Andre Drummond
It was different because I remember my first few games playing against real grown men. I'm like, damn, I gotta start fucking lifting weights. And then I played Dwight for the first time and that was the day I was like, yeah, I need to really buckle down. Cause I never felt so helpless as a player in my life. Like he was like doing the post move and I just was like, not there. Like, nah, Dwight was just crazy hit me finish. I couldn't. Couldn't stop him. So.
Bishop B
Hey, man, that was your welcome to the league moment.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, Dwight hour for sure. Like it was personal after that. Every time I saw Dwight, I tried to violate.
Bishop B
Yeah, yeah.
Andre Drummond
Like it was personal. Like I didn't like what he did.
Young Nacho
Yeah, Dwight was different.
Andre Drummond
He was laughing and you know your big ass kids. He was giggling and scoring on me. You know, dunk of the ball. I can't do about it.
Bishop B
You just gotta take that though, bro.
Andre Drummond
I'm not accepting that. No, no, I'm saying I'm talking about in the game.
Bishop B
Like you realize you physically not ready.
Young Nacho
Yeah, that was Orlando, Dwight.
Andre Drummond
Hell, this was Houston.
DJ Wells
Oh, shit.
Young Nacho
You ain't even see Orlando Dwight.
Andre Drummond
Nah, I don't want to Orlando.
Young Nacho
Dwight.
Bishop B
Yeah, he the elbows you on top of your biscuit, man.
Young Nacho
What I used to. I threw a floater, hit the top of the backboard. I shot it at the front. At the top of the backboard.
Bishop B
Scary ass.
Young Nacho
I was scared as fuck. Dwight was crazy. It was like he block.
DJ Wells
And that's one thing that people I know. Whatever you say. The jokes Is cool, but like, the reason why they got to the finals was because Dwight was that good. It was a progressive team. They had all shooters. Turk Lewis, a six, nine point. But Dwight Howard was like that, man.
Bishop B
He was still double double machine though, in Houston when.
Young Nacho
Dwight and fucking. Nah, he was different, bro. He was an animal in Orlando for sure.
DJ Wells
Oh, yo. Rookie year. You was. No, this might be a sophomore year. I believe you was a part of the infamous. You didn't play much that game, but the infamous Kyrie and Brandon Knight. Brandon Knight back and forth to witness that live.
Andre Drummond
You recall, that was my rookie year. I was hurt. I had a stress fracture in my back. Yeah, I was there for that. That shit was insane.
DJ Wells
Like, we need that energy back in the all star game. Like, I know that ain't gonna happen.
Andre Drummond
I want guys going at each other.
DJ Wells
Man, that was great basketball. Like, we still talking about that. Denver 10 years later. Yeah, that was elite basketball. Then you had Tim Hardaway and Deion Waiters do it.
Andre Drummond
Like, I won that shit too.
DJ Wells
See y. Yeah, we need that energy back. How was that to be a part of that environment though?
Andre Drummond
It felt like street ball, man. Like, it felt like we was really just out there hooping with no conscious. Like no one was thinking. It was just like, you get a bucket, I got a score on you now. Like, it was. It was dope. Like, guys were really, really playing, man.
Bishop B
Brendan Knight was cold. He just got caught up in a lot of bullshit moments.
Andre Drummond
He was.
DJ Wells
But Brendon Knight was hard as fuck.
Bishop B
He was cold.
Young Nacho
He got some.
Andre Drummond
He's one of the most hardworking people I've met in my entire life. And we have the same trainer in Miami. Shout out to Remy Workouts, bro. BK man, he's work.
DJ Wells
He a solid too.
Young Nacho
He was cold. I mean, he still is good at basketball, but he was super cold. It's just people catch him on the wrong highlight and he got some fire highlights. Like his highlight tapes are crazy. They just never play them. But they always play him getting dunked across by Kyrie. But.
Bishop B
That.
Young Nacho
When it's.
DJ Wells
It's. It's one of the most disrespectful because.
Young Nacho
He failed and went flat.
Bishop B
That's when me start first coming out. He fell into somebody casket. They closed that on me.
Andre Drummond
That's crazy. But you. I remember watching that live, bro, because I was still hurt. So I'm sitting. I'm sitting on the bench in my suit watching this. Mind you, I've never seen Lob City live until this game.
DJ Wells
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
So when I saw that. I'm like, n, this is the NBA for real. Like, like.
Young Nacho
They, they had, man. I, I, I gotta talk to you. Brandon. I would never handle that as good.
Andre Drummond
N. We with B Knight BK made.
Bishop B
Who the best big you done played against so far in your career. You gonna give it to Dwight or somebody else?
Andre Drummond
B, man, Yic embiid a couple years back out of those two. I was saying B, because he's more physical, like, I had to really like put force into guarding him. Like with yokis, I just use my speed. I'll just guard him.
Bishop B
Okay.
Andre Drummond
But he's scrappy, man. Crafty, crafty player. Smart. Knows how to get his teammates involved.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
His IQ is just high, man.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
So you make one bad move, he gonna, he gonna make you pay for it.
Young Nacho
Do you like this era? Like, cause you, I don't, I hate it. Okay. Do you see it kind turning a little bit though?
Andre Drummond
Cause it's starting to go back a little bit. Yeah.
Young Nacho
Come say you got some bigs that can play. Like, I know like 13 years ago you used to throw the ball in the post something and like let him get after it.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
Young Nacho
And then it went to all threes. Like you either catch a live or you gotta shoot all threes. And now I see it kind of transitioning back to like, you can throw the ball in the post. Some of the bigs can still operate. And you said you hate this era, so I respect it.
Bishop B
How do you adapt though?
Andre Drummond
For me?
Bishop B
Yeah, yeah.
Andre Drummond
I said just being, being athletic is really what helped me throughout the, throughout the changes of the game. Like when they were playing small ball five and yeah, everybody shooting threes, I was able to guard one through five, so, you know, I really kept my body right throughout that time. I didn't let you know the game, like discourage you up.
DJ Wells
Yeah, discourage.
Andre Drummond
I, I didn't let it, I didn't let it happen because I, I wanted it too. And I offered a service that teams always need. I still give you 15 rebounds and they got to guard me on the other end too. So choice is yours. You really want to keep putting a 6, 5 guy on me and I can guard him too.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
So I mean, the choice is yours. How you want that to go?
DJ Wells
Keep you in business for sure. I want to ask you, as a crazy rebounder, more shot attempts a lot more crazier threes, does that help your brand?
Andre Drummond
Easy for sure. Keep shooting that bullshit.
DJ Wells
If you want to say easy stats.
Andre Drummond
I'm gonna get it. I'm gonna get it.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
DJ Wells
Facts, most definitely.
Young Nacho
I never thought about it like that. Like, yeah, if I'm a rebounder, I'm like, yeah, shoot 63. Yeah, shoot that shit. I don't get. Yeah, that's a fact.
Bishop B
That helped the payroll.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
DJ Wells
Contract renewal, baby. I want to talk about it, man. Your first All Star end up being one of the most special All Star games around, man. How was that moment?
Andre Drummond
Crazy. Kobe's last All Star game. Insane.
DJ Wells
Insane in Toronto.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, that was. It was cold as shit out there. Like, it wasn't even enjoyable. You couldn't even, like, walk outside in peace. Like, you were freeze the moment you stepped outside.
Young Nacho
Dang.
Andre Drummond
But that game in itself was just memorable from, like, start to finish, from, like, walking into the locker room, seeing him, you know, being on the same court as him, being able to interact with him, knowing that this is like, the last time you'll really be on the floor with him. I think we played them already twice, so I didn't get to see him again after that.
DJ Wells
Damn.
Andre Drummond
And it was just a special moment for me because as a kid growing up and watching Kobe and watching the things he's done with this league and to have a moment to share the court with him one last time, like, that shit is. You'll never forget that, bro. Like, I got that highlight tape playing in my house in Miami for no reason. Like, it's just circulated. Just that game.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Young Nacho
Did you like, when you got announced we gonna make the All Star team, What was that feeling like? I know, like, getting drafted is the ultimate feeling, but when I got my one knock All Star, not like that shit felt like unbelievable. Like, it's a crazy feeling.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
Young Nacho
It's like, nah, this is it. Like, I'm at the pinnacle. Like, I'm top 24 or whatever.
Andre Drummond
If you want to chase it, you start chasing it after that.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
Like, once you get there, I'm like, no, I got to stay here. Like, if you get it once, it's.
Young Nacho
Almost like, always happen. See how they just disrespect me every time.
DJ Wells
I threw this out there early.
Bishop B
I said once, let this talk about his journey.
DJ Wells
We talk once, but did you hear what I'm saying?
Bishop B
He said, when you make it once, it's a fluke.
Andre Drummond
No, I got you.
Bishop B
I got you.
Andre Drummond
He do that. He do that a lot.
Bishop B
He get offended. It ain't that 20. He said, Nigga, he start to chase it. Yeah, you want to keep going, cuz? You don't want to make it. You don't want to make it once, right? And then it's a fluke. It's like.
Andre Drummond
That came out the wrong way. But.
Young Nacho
I try to give it a bait early. Like, I made it once.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, I want.
Young Nacho
Sound good, though.
Andre Drummond
No, definitely. Definitely a great time, man. Just having my name being called for the work that I put in to help my team get into the playoffs that year, too. And that was the first time they made it since 2004, too. So. Yeah, an amazing experience. Not even just for me, for my family. I think that's what really meant more to me.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
Being able to share that moment with my mom and sister, because those are like my. My staples, I guess, who I. Who I lean on. So to share that moment with them, have them be there on a stage where they get to see LeBron James, you know, and these other. These other big time people. It's nothing like it.
DJ Wells
And I want to shout out your fan, man, like you said, early on, they.
Andre Drummond
They.
DJ Wells
You know what I'm saying? We. We see a lot of situations where people are in situations where they got to pull their family up and make all the decisions. Your family held you down, said, nah, we not going back to high school. We looking out your best interest, right? Yeah. So for them to be a positive influence in your life and for them to enjoy that moment, like you said, that's fire, bro, for that before.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. Yeah. Seeing everything come to fruition. Just everything that we planned and, you know, prayed about. Yeah.
Bishop B
You got a lot of faith in your mama. My mama would say that, like, man, I got the beaches that I. I'm 6:12. I'm straight.
Young Nacho
Got no.
Andre Drummond
Had different plans. She said, go get that money first. Yeah. Wrestle. Come shout out to mama, man.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Bishop B
Fact.
Young Nacho
Shout out to mama.
Andre Drummond
Appreciate everything you do.
Young Nacho
Always facts. Shout out to mama.
DJ Wells
Shout out to Bob Dukes, man, listen, I want to talk about. I mean, we're going to talk about other teams for sure, but one of the most underappreciated years is Blake Griffin in Detroit, man. Man, people need to speak on that more, bro. I know people talk about his Lob City days, but what he did that year, he was still hurt as well, right? Y'all was going crazy to get to the playoffs, man. Talk about that year, man. Cause BG was in, what, top three in MVP bow that year?
Young Nacho
Yeah, they both was. Yeah.
DJ Wells
I was killing it.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
I think we knew that if we didn't do it now, this was it. So, like, between myself, Reggie, and Blake, you know, we came together that summer, like, yo, like, now's the time. But we know Blake, you know, he was having the knee issues, like if we don't get the best out of him now, like some. This is it. So. So I think we just had that disposition and that mindset that we weren't going to be denied and we just had this level of focus as a team, not even just us three, but as a team, we had this level of focus that now is the time. Because if we don't do it now, we're all getting fucking shipped out of here. And it happened. And it happened. So shout out to Blake Griffin, man, he didn't have to do it. He didn't have to put his body through that throughout that entire season, come back during the playoffs and still try to play on a hurt knee and still produce.
DJ Wells
And was still hooping.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, still produce. Still hooping, still produce. So, you know, Blake was one of my favorite teammates that I had too, you know, he definitely brought the best out of me too because I was still learning, I was still young, bro. Like if you really think about it, like I was 26, 27. And you know, Blake has been around for a minute and he's an established guy too, so I learned a lot from him too about just being a winner. So. Shout out to Blake Griffin. Appreciate what you've done for me, my career forever. Grateful for.
DJ Wells
Sure, man. Shout out to BG, one of the CODAs, man. And that was a magical year for him for sure. Like you said, bouncing back from that injury, still killing two. And then that was what, second all Star night for you that year?
Andre Drummond
Yep. Yeah, yeah. Second one. La.
Young Nacho
What was that like? I just wonder what that feeling like. The second was my eyes.
Andre Drummond
The second one. One, we spin a block. The second one was just, you know, it was, it, it was cool for me because I kind of, I got in late. I was a reserve. Reserve, a fill in for somebody who didn't play in. So it wasn't like I made it, but I made it.
DJ Wells
Oh, that counts.
Young Nacho
That counts. It would have been better by the reserve.
Andre Drummond
It would have been better if I was picked. But still, still a great feeling, you know, getting two of them and you know, playing in that game always is fun though.
DJ Wells
Most definitely. Now I gotta ask, you know what I'm saying, that the next year you make a change. What's that like? You know what I'm saying? Going for being an organization. You was in Detroit for eight years now, your first time switching up to a different city. How was that like? Especially, I know, like people talk about the actual situation of basketball. But mentally, what's it like? All right, now I'm in a different phase of my life.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, Getting traded from Detroit was. That shit was like a movie, bro. Like, it didn't. It didn't make sense. I didn't understand it, none of it. I didn't process it well. I don't think I took it very well because I was kind of blindsided by it and I didn't know why. I thought the relationship we had in that city was a lot stronger than what was presented. But, you know, I forget that this is also a business.
Bishop B
You want to retire out there? You want.
Andre Drummond
Hell yeah, I want to retire in Detroit, man. That was. That was it. That's home. I still got a crib there now.
Bishop B
Yeah, don't too many people say that.

I mean, I grew.
Bishop B
Fuck with him.
Andre Drummond
I grew. I grew up in Detroit. So, like, Detroit was home for me. I felt like I just got there. Like when I was 23, 24, where I already experienced life, I got there 18 years old, so I was still a kid. Kid.
Young Nacho
Okay.
Andre Drummond
So everything I learned was out there. But being traded and sent to Cleveland was. Was weird because Tristan Thompson was still there. So I'm like, how does this work for me?
Bishop B
Oh, you good?
DJ Wells
CT13.
Andre Drummond
I didn't understand what the. What the plan was and how this fits. Like, what was the purpose of this trade? Like, how does this work for my career? And lo and behold, to find out that it set my shit spiraling. My stock just went down. You know, the appreciation for my game went down. So I had to get to a new mindset of just like, how do I maneuver and how do I shake this narrative that is painted on me.
Bishop B
Right now for sure.
DJ Wells
Not one of my favorite clips was like, one of my things I think the kids need to see. When you was giving games to the kids, you was just like, look how this game goes, you know, so I've been here. I've been here. This game can take you anywhere, but you gotta always be ready. That's like a true testament in that situation. You, like, now I'm somewhere where I know I'm elite, but I'm in a situation that don't make sense. But I still gotta keep my mental here. Cause I know I'm still worth something.
Young Nacho
That was one of the most fired videos I've seen. You was like, I was a max player, $100 million and I had to go figure it out again.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. I mean, a lot of people don't Want to do that, though. And with that situation, it wasn't planned too. A lot of people ask, yo, did you plan to do that? I said, nah. I was. I was genuinely, like, in the moment with that situation, because I'm seeing the next generation of what I was. And if I can just shed a little bit of light and show them there's so much more to this game than just scoring 30 points a game, then I feel like I've done my job. And it was just one of those moments. I feel like I really. It really stuck. Talk what I said.
Young Nacho
Nah, I did because it was personal, bro.
Andre Drummond
It was just us. It was just me and my team that I was coaching. It was just us. It was 10 of us, had us in a circle. And I was talking to them like, it was. I was like, I'm with y'all. These kids is fucking 15, 16. They don't know what the fuck I'm talking about. But the way I explained it to them, it's like, bro, there's so much to this game that has to offer. Yeah, you take this shit seriously.
Bishop B
Who embraced you, though, in Cleveland, though? Did anybody, like, make you feel comfortable while you was there, or you just.
Andre Drummond
The team did. The team was great. And the organization. Cleveland's organization was great. They definitely knew that I was, like, uncomfortable, and I did not. I still wasn't, like, understanding what was going on because this was new. I've never been traded before, bro.
Young Nacho
Like, I was like.
Andre Drummond
I asked my agent, I said, what.
Young Nacho
The Do I do?
Andre Drummond
Like, I never been traded before. Do I, like, do I go home or pack your.
Young Nacho
Did you get traded summer or. Like, was it.
Andre Drummond
No, no, this was the. This was, like, eight minutes before the trade deadline.
Young Nacho
Like, damn.
Andre Drummond
I was at the airport.
DJ Wells
So how did you find out?
Andre Drummond
I was at the airport, about to get up, about to go on the plane to. We're going to OKC in Detroit, and we're about to leave, and I'm about to pull up to the airport. My agent calls me and said, what are you doing? I'm like, I'm about to get the airport. I'm about to get out. Like, what's good? He's like, don't go. I'm looking at time. I see that shit. I'm like, Damn, nigga. It's 3:57. Trade that line over in a couple minutes. Like, what you mean? He's like, no, I think they found a deal. I think you're going to Cleveland.
Bishop B
Wow.
Andre Drummond
So I said, okay. So I said, now what? He said, what you mean? I was like, fuck do I do now? He's like, go home. I was like, well, then what? He's like, pack a bag. You report before to get out. You report back for, like, a week. I think they got a road trip. Pack it back for a week. We'll come back and get the rest of your. So I'm like, so, like, that's it? I don't get to say bye to nobody or none of that. He's like, nah, bro.
Young Nacho
That's the business, bro.
Andre Drummond
That's it. It's the way of the game. So that after that day is when I kind of became, like, cold.
Young Nacho
Nah, facts.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. I became cold to, like, this. This business.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
Like, it's hard for me to, like, create friendships in this business now.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
Because how fast and how easily we're moved around. Like chess pieces.
Bishop B
Oh, God, that's good to embrace you, though, out there.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. But they embraced me. I love Cleveland. I had one of my best times in Cleveland. Like, they really, really embraced me because I wanted to win. Like, I really wanted to prove people wrong that I am a winner. Like, I'm not just a guy that averages 15 to 15 and doesn't win. Like, I wanted to win.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
And that was really where that sparked for me, too, where, like, I gotta learn how to win and the rest of this shit will come.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Young Nacho
N Getting traded is awful. I remember when I was in Boston, you know how you make it? Like, oh, you getting traded. I was one of them dudes. Like, yeah, you probably on your way out, boy. And then it was me. They like, te talk to you. I said, oh, Kimber made it. Where's Kimball out J J. Oh. I'm like, I'm de sad. I'll be about the 12 year. I'm like, I'm about to cry. What the fuck? N that feel different, bro. So I can only imagine what that was like.
DJ Wells
And the. I don't know what it is, but I think it's just even worse when they be like, when you about to be on the team flight or you about to get on the team, like.
Bishop B
Drum shit is worse.
Andre Drummond
I was at the airport. Yeah.
DJ Wells
N could have called me at the career, bro. I could have chilled out.
Young Nacho
Yeah, you can do this once.
Andre Drummond
Once they cancel practice. They were meeting at the plane. I'm like, somebody's getting moved. So I kind of had an idea that something was going to happen, but I didn't know it was going to be me.
Young Nacho
Damn.
Bishop B
You know, he felt some sort of way. He said, Damn. I can't say bye to nobody trying to say peace.
Andre Drummond
They probably wondering where the I'm at.
DJ Wells
Yeah, like you said, you know, game eight years in the city, like, damn, I can't peace out my people.
Young Nacho
Like, n. That's crazy.
DJ Wells
For sure.
Young Nacho
That's some bad vibes right there.
Andre Drummond
Sick business, man.
Young Nacho
How did y'all play them after the trade deadline?
Andre Drummond
Did y'all play Detroit?
DJ Wells
Damn.
Young Nacho
Damn.
Andre Drummond
Pandemic happened. Yeah, I went to Cleveland, and I think I played six games. And then the pandemic happened. Oh, I didn't get to see them again.
Young Nacho
I got traded, too, that year. Look, I got traded back to Atlanta.
DJ Wells
That's when you got traded?
Young Nacho
Yeah, I got traded back to Atlanta.
DJ Wells
I used in the good season during the pandemic. They ain't closed. No, we was alone in Miami. Oh, yeah. They didn't give a about.
Bishop B
He brought that up here.
Andre Drummond
See you.
Bishop B
You know what's so crazy? You know, shout out to all, you know, co we took it serious. This. This had a party. You. You family now, you know, this has a party. He got taking tests. You can't come in my house. You should know SW this. Get that. Getting everybody sick. He damn.
Young Nacho
He can't come here without somebody lied. Somebody a take their test, man. Cuz, I was. I was good.
Bishop B
He was.
Young Nacho
I just woke up.
DJ Wells
It was.
Young Nacho
We had a hell of a time.
DJ Wells
It was a great party.
Young Nacho
Everybody coming with their papers. I'm like, yeah, swap them again, cuz. I don't know.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, make sure.
Young Nacho
I woke up, it was done. I couldn't taste nothing. I was done. I called niggas, like, hey, y'all.
DJ Wells
Like.
Young Nacho
Oh, the city for a month.
DJ Wells
Hey, you know what's crazy? I still think about that time where, like, everything shut down. And it's crazy that we blame Rudy Gobert for this. And he did not get a league covert. But him touching the microphone, he definitely.
Andre Drummond
Didn'T help the cause. That's one of the greatest gifts of all time. He didn't help the cause.
Bishop B
He definitely did.
Young Nacho
I remember that dog for that, too.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, he is wild.
DJ Wells
He's one of the ills for that, for sure.
Andre Drummond
We start coughing and rubbing the mics.
Young Nacho
He said it didn't.
Andre Drummond
Two weeks later.
Young Nacho
That is wild.
DJ Wells
That was one of the craziest moments. Like, I remember that it was another game that happened. They just, like, stopped it. Like, right at half. I was like, no, gotta go home.
Young Nacho
They stopped our game. It was Vince Carter last year. And they was like, yeah, the game's about to be over and whatever. Like, they about to end the league. They was telling us during the game, I want to finish the game. And it was just like, everybody's like, put Vince in.
Bishop B
Vincent.
Young Nacho
Vince went. We was playing New York and Vince went in, played like the last quarter, hit a couple shots and some. And he's like, I'm done.
Andre Drummond
Like, damn.
DJ Wells
That's crazy.
Andre Drummond
That's crazy.
Bishop B
His 20th year too.
Young Nacho
It was like 22. I don't know what year. Something crazy. He was really shitty too.
Bishop B
How many years you spend in Cleveland?
Andre Drummond
Like a year and a half.
Bishop B
Oh, okay.
DJ Wells
And then it was la, right?
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
DJ Wells
I was gonna ask you how. I mean, obviously you played in some solid cities, but how was that going to la? Cause like, I know the Laker fans, that's just crazy. Brown was there. Like, how was that? Like, I know that's a different type of pressure.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. I mean, going into a big market for the first time was insane. Like, they really. If you don't got. If you're not strong willed, they will talk your ass out of not playing basketball no more.
DJ Wells
Damn.
Andre Drummond
So for me, I mean, I went there with a mindset just to try to help the team the best way I can. Both AD and LeBron were hurt when I got there, so I was playing Underman at the time too. So I did what I could. We made it to the playing game. We won the playing game. So my experience wasn't bad. I mean, low key. I would have stayed if they offered, so. So. But they had a different plan. So it is what it is. I enjoyed my time. It was great to play with LeBron, great to play with AD both great players. Wish you could have did more.
Bishop B
I got a question.
Andre Drummond
Shoot it.
Bishop B
AD Or Embiid?
Andre Drummond
In what sense?
Bishop B
Game.
Andre Drummond
Like, skill wise. Yeah, Embiid.
Young Nacho
You think he got more skill than AD MVP? I mean, Joe.
Andre Drummond
I mean, mainly I say that because I've played against them both, bro.
Bishop B
Yeah, no, this your take, bro. You're in the league.
Andre Drummond
I played against them both. I mean, AD Is uber skilled. Like, he's super skilled. It's not even. Not even a question.
Bishop B
Yeah, yeah.
Andre Drummond
But the. That Joel embiId does at seven foot and almost £300.
Young Nacho
It's that heavy.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. It's ridiculous, bro. What do you do with that? Not only is he beating you with guard moves, he going to catch you in the paint too. And body. Yeah. Like AD if he catch that on the pick and roller, the pop, pick and pop to the elbow. He's dangerous.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
I feel like With Embiid, there's just so much more shit that he throw at you.
Young Nacho
I think Embiid ISO game is better than AD's.
DJ Wells
Oh, for sure.
Young Nacho
I think AD he uses quickness and his athletic ability more. Right, Joel Embiid, you can really just throw him the ball and be like, watch out. And he about to work out.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
DJ Wells
Trust me.
Andre Drummond
I guarded that nigga in practice every day. I was a test dummy for him. He was just trying shit.
Bishop B
I just asked you that, bro. Cause just listening to your story, I know a little bit about you, but, like, over the conversation, DJ asked you these questions. You play with a lot of the best big man in, like, our era of basketball, like Lloyd Griffin and all them niggas is crazy.
Young Nacho
That is crazy when you think about it. Who would you say is an underrated, like, big that don't get a lot of recognition, that you would probably be like, he cold if y'all ain't really tapped in or he's good. I don't want to say Cody, I.
Andre Drummond
Gotta put some thought behind that.
Young Nacho
Dang.
DJ Wells
For sure.
Young Nacho
Underrated big. That I think is nice. That I don't think get a lot of, like, Vucevich.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Young Nacho
But I knew you play with him. I'm like, he kind of nice.
Bishop B
Play with him, too.
DJ Wells
Yeah. Chicago.
Young Nacho
Yeah, Chicago.
DJ Wells
Bucha bucket.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
DJ Wells
I gotta put some more respect on defense. But that's not why they pay him about, bro.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
Young Nacho
Me and Bo the same level of defender. Come on, bro.
Andre Drummond
He not getting no stops, bro.
Young Nacho
Zero stops. I never. I never once said I was the best defender. I compete, but I never was a lockdown.
Bishop B
That's what the sad say on the T. I compete.
Andre Drummond
I compete. I ain't no, I tried.
DJ Wells
I'm a team defender. I play the scheme.
Young Nacho
Yeah. Hey, I can steal the ball.
Bishop B
Well, he's one of his first. Better not say that to him.
Andre Drummond
What the fuck is that?
DJ Wells
They couldn't score like me.
Andre Drummond
That's crazy.
DJ Wells
Oh, I want to ask both of you this. Obviously, you coaching t. Coaching alma mater for sure. How was it like talking to kids about basketball? Like, trying to trail because y'all played at such a high level. Obviously, y'all are greater with y'all both did.
Andre Drummond
Did.
DJ Wells
How was it translating to kids? Because, like, it seems like kids now just, like, they don't give a damn about anybody resume. They're like, we own what we own. How's it hard? Like, that's exactly what it is.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
DJ Wells
How is it, like, trying to get through the deal?
Andre Drummond
You got to Try to relate to them in their way. You can't talk to them like, yo, you need to do this or this how you do it. Like you gotta shoot the with them, ask them what they with what you enjoy. Like, oh, you like playing a game, what game you play? And you slip in a few conversations like yo, like what you think about this, what you see when you on the floor. How do you make your next guy better? But I think just the little things with this generation is that's gonna be beneficial. Just kind of really trying to understand them. Yeah.
Young Nacho
I went throughout with like, you just gotta kind of encourage this group. Like I know I grew up, my coach was always like, yo on you. Like you gotta do this.
Andre Drummond
That's what I mean. Like trying to relate to their better nature.
Young Nacho
Yeah. So now you gotta. They so used to everybody kind of encouraging them or babying them like spoon fed you. So everybody more used to being catered to and everybody ego getting stroked. Like, you gonna be great, you gonna be great. You gonna be great. And I think you gotta kind of play into that. You still give em real game. Like, hey, ain't gonna be that easy. Like you gotta do it this way, this way. But you also gotta encourage them cause they don't hear too many negatives no more.
Andre Drummond
Right.
Young Nacho
Like if you hear a negative now it's like he don't like me. Like he don't like.
Andre Drummond
He a hater. Yeah.
DJ Wells
And now, and now kids don't have to fight. I ain't gonna say they don't. But like you can transfer now if you don't like that. Coach.
Andre Drummond
That'S crazy.
Young Nacho
Like that's a great question. Like if being a number one player in your class and it's nil money, like what you think you would have got?
Andre Drummond
Like man, I would have you probably definitely.
Young Nacho
Man.
Andre Drummond
What I would have let that out, man.
Bishop B
He got m. No question.
DJ Wells
No more playing the nation for sure. We see. You see AJ got yeah.
Young Nacho
A couple three.
Bishop B
Andre was like that you would have got paid. That would have changed your rebounds seven.
Young Nacho
Blocks to be brave to me.
Bishop B
Go put some mountain.
Andre Drummond
Like would.
Young Nacho
That would have changed your mindset though. Like you knew you were going one and done. But like if you got an nil money and you don't want to play Nation 8 like I'm gonna give you $7 million. You think your mindset would have changed?
Andre Drummond
Like. Yeah, I would have stayed.
Young Nacho
Yeah, I would have stayed.
Andre Drummond
I mean I already told you, like I said before, I would. I wanted to stay anyways.
Young Nacho
Damn.
Bishop B
Wildo you wanted that college experience or.
Andre Drummond
Well, partly. Partially because I went to all boys school. High school. Yeah. That feels strong enough. And I feel like I didn't really experience life. I feel like I was a prison. Well, not. Shout out. Shout out to St. Thomas More.
Bishop B
Shout out to Jason Tatum, too.
Andre Drummond
Jason Tatum?
Bishop B
Yeah, he went to all boys school, too.
Andre Drummond
Oh, he feels my pain. He shot the same Thomas More, though.
Young Nacho
Did you have anybody come perform at your school? Cause they had sexy ribs.
Bishop B
Yeah, he had. No, it's getting hot in here.
DJ Wells
At his high school, it was all represented that od.
Andre Drummond
I hope. I hope that's not true.
DJ Wells
They have reached out and said, but that is nasty work.
Bishop B
Shout out to that pimp rally.
Andre Drummond
Hey.
DJ Wells
I really pray they said she open it up. So that's why I'm shout to St.
Andre Drummond
Louis N. That's for real, though.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
Hey, listen, man, we sent it to.
DJ Wells
That's NBA Sentel post, bro.
Young Nacho
You gotta be careful.
Bishop B
I asked that if he went to prom, and I said thereby.
Andre Drummond
No, I didn't either.
DJ Wells
All right, but that's tight.
Bishop B
Like, damn.
Young Nacho
Y'all don't get a prom or nothing.
Andre Drummond
Hell no. We got sisters, bro. I was always playing AAU and shit. Go to it.
Young Nacho
Damn, that's tough, man. I couldn't imagine going to a all boys school. I mean, shout out to.
Andre Drummond
It wasn't awful, man. It wasn't awful. It wasn't as bad as you think it was. I mean, I lived in Connecticut, too, so I got to go home and n. It was. It wasn't bad.
Bishop B
You was locked in, though.
Young Nacho
Yeah. I mean, I think you'll probably be more locked in on your education than sports.
Andre Drummond
Hell yeah. Shout out to Jerry Quinn.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
Bishop B
Was that. Was that another decision from your mom and your sister?
Andre Drummond
No question.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. I played one season at Capital Prep in Harford, and it was like playing against children. So after that season, my mom was like, yo, we got to go somewhere, girls, so shut up. She didn't give you much of a choice. You visited a couple schools, went to South Kent, went to Wilbraham and munson, and then St. Thomas Moore.
Bishop B
Damn. Your mom had a vision, bro.
Andre Drummond
My mom didn't really know much about basketball, which is. Which is the crazy part. My mom didn't really start learning basketball till I got to St. Thomas Moore.
Bishop B
Oh, okay.
Andre Drummond
Okay.
Young Nacho
How tall were you? Like in seventh, eighth grade.
Andre Drummond
Probably, right?
Young Nacho
Damn. So when you hit your growth.
Andre Drummond
I don't even think I did. I think I was just big. Always, bro.
Young Nacho
It's crazy.
Andre Drummond
My sophomore High school, though.
Bishop B
That's when your numbers was crazy. That's when I found out about you, sophomore year.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, I've been this every seven blocks, bro.
Bishop B
I know, I heard you. But I used to always watch Rivals.
Young Nacho
He was dribbling and though. Yeah, I remember, I'm like this here.
Bishop B
You wasn't that much big.
Young Nacho
No, no.
Bishop B
Put on that college drum, that shot. I mean, for sure you. You was. You skinny.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, no, for sure.
Young Nacho
He was like handling this video of you, you crossing. And I'm like, nah, damn.
DJ Wells
Shout out to Pangos.
Bishop B
I was like, so you started off as a guard or they always.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, I was always. I was always taught to play every. If you watch my videos from high school, I always say I want to be able to do everything. I never want to limit myself.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Andre Drummond
So I would always play that way. Bring the ball up, pass, shoot. I love bassing. I like getting my teammates open.
Young Nacho
So I'm used to watching what you.
Bishop B
Think the best part of your game is though. I know you the greatest rebounder of all time. That's what you say.
Andre Drummond
Passing, Passing. Yeah. Definitely a really good passing.
Bishop B
For sure.
Young Nacho
The underrated part of your game that I think is your ability to steal the ball from guards. Like, have you watched? Like, obviously I'm a basketball head. He will pick point guards pockets all the time. Like they try to cross him.
Andre Drummond
That was like a thing where I'm from though. Like. Like in Connecticut, like, if you steal the ball, it's almost like getting dunked on.
DJ Wells
Damn.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. So like for me, like, I always gotta. I gotta thrill out of that. Like steal the ball from people.
Young Nacho
I used to pick everybody pocket and then he get on a fast break. He get on a fast break. Punch that shit. I used to be like, some people could dribble though. Like, if you run at him, he gonna throw it behind his back. Like, I guarantee it's a high. Like Louis Safan, you on a fast break, throwing it behind your back, going down, punching that. I'm like, yeah.
Bishop B
Did you play with any other pros in high school against.
Andre Drummond
Against Damian Lee.
Bishop B
Okay.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. Damon Lee. That's Steph shot to Dame Lee.
Bishop B
Okay.
Young Nacho
Damn.
Bishop B
Who was the hardest matchup in high school that you remember?
Young Nacho
High school probably was a joke.
Andre Drummond
Yeah. High school was not entertaining. I mean, mean.
Bishop B
Oh, yeah. I didn't play nobody.
Andre Drummond
Isaiah Austin was up there with me.
DJ Wells
Isaiah Austin was hard.
Andre Drummond
Austin Baylor. Yeah. Got Aaron. Aaron Gordon played against him too.
Bishop B
How was that?
Andre Drummond
Pj? Pj. What's bro? From Harrison. Harrison played against him. CJ Fair played against him.
Bishop B
Was wrong. High school.
Young Nacho
What was that like?
Andre Drummond
Because he was. I tried to kill him every time I saw him.
Bishop B
He was bigger than him.
DJ Wells
It was smoke.
Andre Drummond
Yeah.
Bishop B
Yeah, he was bigger than him.
Young Nacho
What you average against Netherlands?
Andre Drummond
You had to look. That's bro. Real time. Real time figure.
Bishop B
Noel was like that, though. You was. I take you, though. He was too strong.
Young Nacho
He's too strong. Like this is big as pause. Like.
Bishop B
Yeah. You walked in here.
Young Nacho
I heard played against a bunch of topics before got top.
Bishop B
I heard that comment he made when he walked there to the.
Andre Drummond
The.
DJ Wells
Walk in.
Andre Drummond
I'm like, God damn, my head on the ceiling.
DJ Wells
That staircase. Wicked.
Young Nacho
We all normal height trap down here.
Andre Drummond
Where we at right now?
DJ Wells
The real trap for sure. Can't drop the low ever.
Andre Drummond
DC Young, fly type for sure, man.
DJ Wells
Like you said year 13, man, with Philly, man, and all. I said I have an up and down year, especially with injuries, man. But how is it so far, man? How you. How you feeling out the city?
Andre Drummond
Well, I've been in Philly. I played in Philly a couple years back after I went to Chicago. Before I went to Chicago. Excuse me. Got traded in that Ben Simmons trade to Brooklyn.
Young Nacho
F Won't let you go that time.
Andre Drummond
Nope.
Young Nacho
Nah, I got caught in that. Yeah, the city was mad about that.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, they were not thrilled about that. But being back now is pretty. It's dope, man. I just think injuries is our crutch right now, man. We can't escape. Keep it between myself. Pg, Joel obviously being out for another seven to ten days.
Young Nacho
Jared.
Andre Drummond
Jared being out for the season. That boy's good.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Young Nacho
He was hoping for that he could play basketball.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, he's good.
Bishop B
Can you speak on how good Tyrese is, bro?
DJ Wells
Yeah, he's high on the tyres. Maxi train for sure. He been.
Andre Drummond
I love Tyrese. I mean, I got to see Tyrese when he got drafted because obviously, like I said, I played with Philly and just seeing his growth. Growth as a player and as a. As a point guard. Yeah. Truly a fan of what he's done.
Young Nacho
No, he's cold.
Bishop B
Of course, all y'all work hard, but does he have, like, a different type of grind than everybody else?
Andre Drummond
He has an incredible work ethic.
DJ Wells
That's fine.
Andre Drummond
He works hard. Like he's in the gym before everybody else. He's last to leave.
Bishop B
Okay.
Andre Drummond
Shows up hours before the game to get his work done. So he puts the work in to be great.
Bishop B
Yeah, I love his game.
Young Nacho
Think like, you play with a lot of point guards. We Talked about you playing with Biggs. Where would you rank him as like point guards you play with? Like, I think Brandon Jennings is cold and all that, but like, where would you put Tyrese?
Andre Drummond
He's in the top 10 for sure.
Young Nacho
Damn, 10?
Andre Drummond
He's probably 10.
Bishop B
Hell no.
DJ Wells
Name a playboy.
Andre Drummond
Kyrie Irving.
Young Nacho
Yeah, that's one of huh?
Andre Drummond
Steph Curry.
Young Nacho
That ain't fair.
Andre Drummond
Go ahead, you ask questions.
DJ Wells
He started off with Chauncey.
Andre Drummond
Chauncey Billups. Where my four right now?
Young Nacho
Yeah, he gotta be at the. Chauncey.
DJ Wells
Tim was the same man I said Tim was saying. He's trying to get the memory going, that's all.
Young Nacho
Yeah, but damn the fact you play.
Bishop B
With all the best players the NBA, bro.
Young Nacho
Yeah, he hasn't missed real play with Brian, Kyrie, Steph, James Harden. Joel, where you put him at your.
Bishop B
Two guard list, George? Jim.
Young Nacho
Yeah, he a point guard though, James Harden.
Andre Drummond
Yeah, I think he's.
Bishop B
I think he's a PG combo guard though. Where you put him of all time, though?
DJ Wells
That's a 520 argument. That third slot. We going back and forth between him and D. Wade.
Bishop B
Oh, drum still in the league. We don't want to put that on.
Young Nacho
You don't want to be in this.
Andre Drummond
I ain't trying to deal with that.
Bishop B
Respect. We ain't enough.
DJ Wells
We got a lot more questions for you, but we going to wait, you know what I'm saying, till we do this another time. We like you say, you still a current player. We don't put no smut put you in those situations, man. I appreciate that N for sure. But listen man, we appreciate you sliding on this, man. Listen man, of course we wish it helps to your team, man. Have a great rest of your year, man. Keep killing. We appreciate you sliding on this ain't it? Yes sir. We trapping late night dedicated.
Bishop B
Godamn that time again, cuz. Got girls and what time is it?
Andre Drummond
What time is it? The real hoop session.
DJ Wells
We'll be back next time. 520 for sure.
