Bishop B
Yeah, it's very fitting. I just didn't get your shoe shots before we left the city, so I got you, nasty.
DJ Wells

Bishop B

Host of Club 520 Podcast
Nah, he told me we was in Chicago. The only TA got every. Not the real one.
DJ Wells
The only TA that's the only one I knew. You gotta look down. Just look around, man.
Host of Club 520 Podcast

DJ Wells
Yeah, yeah, yeah, man, what's been going on with y'all, man? I like what y'all doing, man. I appreciate y'all having me.
Young Nacho
Nah, we got to have you, bro. But we gotta talk about this real T.A.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yes, sir.
Young Nacho
Now, the nastiest antetokounmpo.
DJ Wells
And you know it's big. Shout out to him, man. But I ain't gonna lie, man. My body at work, man. What I do, man, I ain't Gonna lie, it ain't even that field, man. Ain't no black and white. It's just straight up and down. You feel me? So when y'all was talking about it, I'm like, hold on. They ain't gonna throw first team on that mother. They ain't gonna separate that.
Bishop B
I had to show some respect. I said, well, hold on. I usually let y'all get y'all shit off, but I only know one, and that's. That's the guy for sure, man.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Since he ain't know how this podcast work, anytime somebody finds something we know it's gonna piss somebo.
DJ Wells
Bro. Y'all are being watched, bro. All my homies be telling me, bro, you gotta get on the 5:20, man, you gotta. I say, bro, I'm gonna get on. Just relax. But I'm watching y'all straight up, bro. It's long overdue, man. I'm here.
Bishop B
I want to get back, like, to the. To the beginning, man. How you end up at Crane, man? Well, first you know, we know you from Chicago, so how you land at Crane, man?
DJ Wells
Wild story, man. Before I even got the Crane, man, I had dropped outta high school, man. I had, what grade? Shit, freshman year.
Bishop B
Oh, as soon as you started.
DJ Wells
Well, not really. When I started, once the grades came out and you found. And I found that I couldn't play no high school basketball. If you ain't had that GPA or your grades, it was like, man, I'm going to a school where, shit, it was like a fashion show, damn near. I went to Julian at first. Y'all familiar with Sean Dockery? Yep. Most definitely. I went to his school before he got there.
Young Nacho
He was averaging 50 out there.
DJ Wells
Yeah, yeah, he was doing his thing and. But when I was there, shit, that was like, man, hold on. I need to keep these Air Force ones fresh. I need to. You know what I'm saying? So the only way I could do that, if I gamble. So I gamble in the, you know, the PE classes, lunch classes, okay? By the time I look up, shit, the school day over with. So I wasn't even really going to school. And then, you know, that led to another thing, you know, being outside. And when you outside, you know what come with that? So by the time I looked up, bro, I don't know, man, I saw my life flash before me because I was outside, bro. I was hustling, I ain't gonna hold you. And a couple bullets went past my head. And, you know, that was my turning point saying, you know what, man? This ain't for me, bro. I'm six'five six'four Doing all this, I guess ain't me. And till this day, I don't even speak to my cousin. Cause of the type of time he had me on. He got me out here doing this shit. I'm a whole pro out here. You feel me? And then that specific day, we got a program called the iit. I don't know if y'all familiar with.
Young Nacho
Yup, I do.
DJ Wells
And one day, that day, specifically when it happened, I got in the jet livery cab. Boom. Shot passed. I'm looking to the right of this. I said, damn, what are all these cars being out here? They got Bentleys, Benzes, Range Rovers. I'm like, where the hell. Where is all these people going? Talking about just leaving the block. Shoot right to the thing. I'm thinking, I gotta pay. It's free to get in. I'm like, why are so many people here? And then I ran into my boy, Jason Strait. Y'all probably don't know he played at Wyoming, but I'm asking fool, like, man, what you doing up? He's like, we finna play. You still hooping? I'm like, hell, yeah. Like, what you hooping? I was embarrassed. I'm like, bro, I dropped out, bro. I don't play, bro. He like, come on, hoop. I hoop. And that game we played Sean Marion. Sean Marion was, you know, he was doing his thing and shit. I ended up having, like, 18 points. But I was still wondering, like, why all these people are here. The next game was Antwan Walker and Will Bynum.
Young Nacho
Sir.
DJ Wells
Y'all know Will the three.
Young Nacho
Yeah. Shout out to Crane, baby.
DJ Wells
So listen, they in the stands watching me play. And so when I leave up at the game, you know, you gotta go downstairs in the locker room. Go downstairs in the locker room. Will, like, man, bro, like, I need you. Like, I'm like, what you mean you need me? He's like, bro, you can hoop, bruh. I'm like, he's like, where you hooping at? I'm like, bro, I dropped out. And so the head coach, Coach Anthony Longstreet, shout out Anthony Longstreet, who coached me at Crane. He, you know, he was all arrogant, you know, Will Bynum, his man, you know? So he just, you know. Yeah. How your grades? You know, just. Yeah, okay. Yeah, like, just tough on me for no reason.
Bishop B
Yeah.
DJ Wells
And so Will was like, man, skip all that, bro. I can get you in school, bro. I just took the Blue Division. When you in the Blue Division in Chicago, that Mean, that's the weakest division. You gonna play all the bullshit team. But when you in the red division, that's all the big time school.
Bishop B
Ah, okay.
DJ Wells
So you gotta win the blue division to get in the red. So the top team in the top team in the blue division go, moves up in the red division, drops down.
Young Nacho
Yeah, yeah.
DJ Wells
And so he was explaining that process to me, and I get you in school, so boom, Magic. My mama done already put me out. Like, ain't. If you ain't going to school, ain't no living in here.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yeah, straight up.
DJ Wells
So it got to the point where, all right, I'm finna, I'm finna go back to school. 300 just say, get me in school. Mind you, I don't even know where Crane at.
Young Nacho
Okay?
DJ Wells
I don't even know what Crane. Never heard of Crane. And so when I went back to my. Where I lived at, on 95th, Prison Park. Shout out. Prison Park. Lone homes to be exact. When I went back, bro, all the guys like, bro, where you been at? This, that and the other. And I go to my mama crib. This nobody in there. Like, the furniture gone. Like, the door just open. I'm like, damn, what the hell? Where my mama go? They like, bro, your mama moved out about like a month ago. Damn.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Damn.
DJ Wells
And I'm like, word. So then, boom, went back, got in the cab, went to my grandmama house, got to my grandma house. Grandma, where my mama live at. She was like, well, baby, she say she moved you outside doing what you ain't supposed to be doing. She don't want you around her kids and this, that and other. You trying to be grown, be grown. I said, grandma, I'm finna go back to school. She say, well, baby, your mama lived 2150 West Randolph.
Young Nacho
Grandma, Grandma, Gangster beast.
DJ Wells
Grandma healed the man. She said, yeah, she moved on the west side. And this was God, because when I looked up and I called my momma, I'm like, mama, I want to come, I want to come back home. And she, you know, she laid that law down. You either gonna go to school, get a job, da, da, da, this, that and other. When I told her I'm going to school, she really didn't believe it. And so when I got there, she like, where the school is? I'm like, it's called Crane. She's still like, she like, boy, Crane down the street. It just so happened when she moved to the west side, it was a five block radius.
Young Nacho
I said, damn, meant to be.
DJ Wells
I said, this is meant to be. But shout out to Will Bynum. Cause he the one that, you know what I'm saying, put that play together, and that's how I got there.
Bishop B
Oh, okay.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
That's crazy, man.
Bishop B
You got a wild ass story. Like, I didn't know that. Did y'all. Did y'all win the chip?
DJ Wells
No, we ain't winning no chip. We. I ain't gonna lie.
Bishop B
That blue. Y'all never made this red.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Hell no.
DJ Wells
Hell no. I ain't gonna lie. It's a team called Westinghouse. And they got headed. They had these cats named the Bailey brothers. They had Martell Bailey, David Bailey and Cedric Banks. Those guys was like. They was winning. I don't think they lost the game.
Bishop B
Damn.
DJ Wells
Okay. I don't think they lost the game, but it was like, damn. We couldn't get past them.
Young Nacho
So it was like, if I go look at Chicago Preps, you gonna be on there?
DJ Wells
Nah, that shit came soon as I graduate.
Young Nacho
Oh, okay. I used to watch Preps.
DJ Wells
I used to be like, yeah, preps was big. That was the first reality tv.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
To me, they was lit.
DJ Wells
I was like, damn. So you had E.C. yup.
Young Nacho
Shit, Doc Doc.
DJ Wells
Jason Strait was on there, too.
Young Nacho
Yup.
DJ Wells
Eddie Curry, all them cats was just. They was big. I ain't gonna lie. Whoever put that together, that was dope.
Young Nacho

Bishop B

Young Nacho

Bishop B
Just your opinion.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Outside of D, Rogue put him on the spot.
Young Nacho
Nah, just high school, though.
Bishop B
Just high school?
DJ Wells
Yeah.
Bishop B
Let's just do high school, man.
DJ Wells
We got a lot of cats. But if I'm gonna get somebody some love. If I'm gonna get somebody some love, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go. Amari Sawyer, he had a Puma commercial in high school. In high school.
Bishop B
What's his name again?
DJ Wells
Amari Sawyer.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
I do your Google.
DJ Wells
He went to DePaul. Hey, I ain't gonna lie, man. When I saw him with that commercial, I ain't gonna lie. I was like, damn, I gotta step my game up. Damn. Now, I'm talking about. He went to King High School. He played with Leon Smith, so he was nice. I'm talking about crossover. Talking about no look passes. I'm talking about throwing lobs. And then he'll give you 30.
Bishop B
Small guard.
DJ Wells
He like 6, 1, 6, 1. Decent.
Bishop B
Look how Luis tap in with that.
DJ Wells
Y'all definitely got. We got a lot of them, though, bro. You got a shit. You had Michael Herman, he went to King, got Cedric Banks. He went to Westinghouse. The team I was telling y'all about.

Host of Club 520 Podcast

I remember you came off the bench. We was in Memphis. You came off the bench this game and you came and you had if y'all know ta I used to be like man, this nigga dirty. This nigga had powder all on his shorts.
DJ Wells
Everything like.
Young Nacho
I'm like, damn, man. I think I don't give a fuck. Cause I play.
Bishop B
I wipe myself with baby powder, too.
Young Nacho
I play with Joe and them, they do it. All they hear before the game, wave ta come out, he got.
DJ Wells
He get the powder smacking on his legs. I'm like, look at this nigga uniform.
Young Nacho
So we try to run this out of bounds, this out of time out play. Yeah, he stole the ball four times in a row from Smooth. Like he tried to make a pass. He stole it. He tried to do something else. He stole it. And he stole it the third time. And they called a timeout. LD Called a timeout.
DJ Wells
He was like, smooth like, no, run that, man. We got it. We gonna run this motherfucker.
Young Nacho
He started the fourth time.
DJ Wells
That bitch rolls first.
Young Nacho
He running around like this, and I'm like, this cold on D. He just running around holding his finger. I'm like. And I'm just on the bench. I ain't playing at this time on the bench, rolling.
Bishop B
That is crazy.
Young Nacho
I'm like, keep. Keep the ball away from that, man.
DJ Wells
Smooth like me.
Young Nacho
No, homie, no ain't cutting right.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Niggas ain't cutting right straight.
Young Nacho
Swear to God, I was running.
DJ Wells
I ain't gonna laugh, man. Hey, one thing about. I always played Atlanta. I always felt like, shit, I want to play there. I ain't gonna lie. I worked out for them in my pre draft workout, and I'm talking about. I killed, bro. I'm talking about killed. It was me, Darrell Wright, and Trevor Reese, and I think. What's his name? Dante Smith. Yeah, yeah, he got drafted. They picked Donton Smith, but they was telling me. They were talking to me like they was gonna move up in the draft and get me and this all up. I'm like, damn. And then they ain't drafting. They ain't do what they said they was gonna do. So, shit, every time I saw, it.
Bishop B
Was probably better you went to Boston.
DJ Wells
Yeah, true that. True that.
Bishop B
You going to Atlanta in 2000? What?
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Five me out here. Me too.
Young Nacho
Me too.
DJ Wells
That was outside BMFTA on the way.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
That's right.
Young Nacho
Yeah, that's a.
DJ Wells
That's right.
Young Nacho
I came to 09 and it still was popping outside.
DJ Wells
Yeah, bro, for sure.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yeah, for sure, man. We gotta get to the college. Obviously, we know you went to juco, but you linked up with one of the 520 alumdi, baby, man.
DJ Wells
So J. Lou, that's my boy, man. I ain't gonna lie, man. And the crazy part, how he got there, man. Will Bynum was supposed to come. Will Bynum had just transferred from Arizona.
Young Nacho
To go to Tech, right?
DJ Wells
But listen, he told my whole coaching staff, hey, I'm on my way. I'm leaving Arizona. I'm through with this. I'm on my way.
Bishop B
Yeah.
DJ Wells
So we waiting. We waiting, bro. Coach is calling me all night, hey, where your boy at? Did he detour somewhere else?
Young Nacho
Where he going to? Atlanta.
DJ Wells
Man, we wake up, man, we hear Will Bynum has committed to Georgia Tech. Boom. Me, I'm like, damn. So I'm calling him. He ain't answer. I'm like, all right. Then all of a sudden, John Lucas fell in our hand through the technical difficulty, the technicality that he was going through with the Baylor situation. I'm pretty sure he told y'all about that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That was real unfortunate, man. I ain't gonna lie. But fortunately for us, you know, he came and was a big key to our success, man. And what we did there at Oklahoma State, man, I'm talking about it be times, right? It be times, bro. J. Luke be like, bro, we pros. We pros. We gotta act like pros. So once he was telling me that, I'm like, bro, I'm like, you right? We do gotta work hard. We gotta work hard. So once he told me that I would go to the gym at night. I catch him in the gym, boom. He'll come to the gym at night. I try to get there before him. So now it's like, who gonna leave first? It be times where I'm talking about the man so clever. He act like he done. And then right when I go in and I'm done, he go right back out. So we had that type of competitive nature is just side, who gonna get that work in? And all while we played with each other, he always influenced me and told me, like, bro, you a pro. He's like, I'm gonna get you there. He take credit for my success in getting to the pros. I don't know why, but it sounds.
Bishop B
Like he a big part of it, though.
DJ Wells
Yeah, I mean. I mean, one thing he did. Cause I ain't gonna lie, I never did get that motherfucker right. I'm Clank. I'm the king of clanking that motherfucker. But I ain't gonna lie, he did put that battery in my back to say, bro, you gotta keep coming back at night shooting. Yeah. And I done seen him get up, like, two 3,000 shots up in one day.
Young Nacho
Yeah, that's something.
DJ Wells
You feel what I'm saying? And he'll do it. It's like his body was trained to do that. And I was like, damn, how you do this, bro? I'm gonna come up here and give me 200 shots up. I'm getting up out of here, bro. This ain't that.
Young Nacho
Yeah, that's him.
DJ Wells
You feel what I'm saying? And to try to make 200, that was a lot for me.
Bishop B
So you was always defensive minded though?
DJ Wells
Nah, hell no, man. I used to. I used to, man. I was in college.
Bishop B
I know he had, bro. Listen, this year of the year, I respect that.
Young Nacho
In and out cross.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yes, sir.
Bishop B
That motherfucker was.
DJ Wells
Hey, look, look, Killer. When I got to Oklahoma State, bro, I ain't gonna even lie. When I got to Oklahoma State, bro, my junior college coach, you know. Cause I went to juco. Yeah. I went to Butler Community College, Kansas. Got kicked out of there. Yeah, I was freshman of the year there. Averaging 16 points a game.
Bishop B
You was acting on, fool got kicked out.
DJ Wells
They caught me smoking weed. The athletic director came, tried to give me my award. He see smoke coming all out my room, man. Folk kicked me outta there so fast. But just through the grace of God, that's how. Look how God work. Cause the National Junior College team that won it that year was missing a two guard. So the first thing they did was like, all right, y'all kicked them out of school, we could use em, send them down here to Illinois. And boom. I went to Walt Bass Valley. And then y'all finna know this name right here. I went down there with a cat named Antoine Barber.
Young Nacho
Yeah, I know him. It's a bunch of kids from Napton went to Wabash.
DJ Wells
Reese, Lynn, Robert, Flint, Greg.
Bishop B
They a lot younger than you, though.
DJ Wells
Yeah. So when I got there, Antoine Barber won National Junior College mvp. So when he won MVP that specific year, he was supposed to leave and go to the league. Cause look, you had three junior college guys that could have went to the league. Well, actually, two of them actually went. Kedrick Brown and Quintel Woods. He was on that draft board too. Remember? Mock draft. They still got the mock draft. Okay, so the mock draft, he was on that draft board. He came back to school. So when he came back to school, he got everybody coming to the schools. I'm talking about Michigan State, I'm talking about all the big boy schools. And so when he was getting all that notoriety during that time, Oklahoma State was recruiting me and so when they was recruiting me, you know how at that time they couldn't really talk to you? They couldn't say nothing to you. They tried to get your attention, and they tried to do all that old extra ass shit. Hell, one time he was winking at me like. I'm like, paul's. That was my man. But you did that for real. So when he did that, it was like, damn. I'm like, all right. But he got to be interested because he trying to get my attention, obviously.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
DJ Wells
And so when all the smoke cleared, Antoine Barber went to Kentucky. So, boom. By him staying got me that notoriety. I believe I always say that. And when we used to. I used to be playing against him. Me and him used to go at it, bro. I ain't gonna lie. We go at it one on ones, five on five. We playing five on five. Look like a one on one. Cause we going at each other. But it made us, like I said, iron, sharp and iron. We end up losing in the National Junior College Champion, not Championship Final Four. And then once my. Like I said, when smoke clear, I had Creighton, Cincinnati, Arizona State, and Oklahoma State.
Young Nacho
Yeah, what made you choose Oklahoma State, though? Being from Chicago, like, I think you probably picked Cincinnati somewhere. That's usc, and I can see us in Cincinnati.
DJ Wells
I didn't want to go to Cincinnati, but you know who they picked, who they signed? Who? Tony Bobbitt.
Young Nacho
I know Tony Bobby. He was nice there, too.
DJ Wells
He was nice. So when they picked up Tony Bobby, I'm like, nah, I'm straight. And I didn't want to go on the West Coast. And it was like, Creighton. I'm like, whoever went to the league for Creighton, you could have won.
Bishop B
That have been tough.
Young Nacho
Shout out to my dog, Kyle Corby, man.
DJ Wells
Oh, yeah. Shout out to Kyle Corby. Damn. Cool. Oh, man.
Young Nacho
That was after Tom, though.
Bishop B
Chris Smith.
DJ Wells
Oh, yeah. Cool guy. He never got a bucket on me, but he cool guy. Cool guy. Meanwhile. Meanwhile, no. So when I went on a visit, you know, we had the legendary coach. That was the only reason. And then they had like, eight ESPN games. And y'all familiar with Mo Baker?
Bishop B
Yeah, I know who that is.
DJ Wells
I was watching how they was letting him get loose the year before me. So I'm like, damn, that spot open. So when I got it, when I got in front of Coach Sutton, I just flat out asked him, like, coach, if I sign here, am I going to the league? He looked at me and was like, you know, he put his legs up and he was like, well, the coaches say that, you know, you are a great defender. You very athletic. I'm like, coach, wait a minute. You ain't never saw me play. What the hell?
Bishop B
He dressed in disguise.
DJ Wells
I'm like, wait a minute, wait a minute.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
That's what assistant coaches are for.
DJ Wells
He's like. And I didn't know that. I'm like, all right, cool. He was like, but if you listen to everything I say defensively and, you know, be a star in your role and, you know, do everything I tell you offensively and execute it, I don't see why not. I'm like, coach, what I saying?
Young Nacho
And I ain't lie to you, though.
DJ Wells
And he ain't lied to me. So shout out. Rest in peace, Eddie Sutton. I always give my loves and respect to him because I asked him and he kept it G. You feel me?
Host of Club 520 Podcast
For sure, man. And that's the injury. You say, okay, state. You know what I'm saying? Going up, playing with a thrill. Then you catch him in the Final Four. After the whole he's supposed to be in y'all team situation. What's that energy like, bro, I ain't gonna lie.
DJ Wells
I always say, I kinda. Cause I ain't in college no more. I always say, man, I think I jagged that year. Cause listen, we doing our study halls, and you know, we have to do our work, and you know, we gotta be focused. They got us on curfew.
Young Nacho
Damn.
DJ Wells
So at this time, you know, you remember on the phones, you could send video messages. So this man sent me a video message. They kicking it. They got the Swede. They got little chicks over there. They got. I'm like, J Lou, look at this. J. Luke. Like, man, don't do it, bro. Don't do it. I say, bro, fuck this curfew. I'm just going through three of them. They cracking over there, bro. I ain't gonna lie. 10 o'clock hit, bro. I let them coaches come in and do they check, bruh. Soon as they left, I walk right out there behind them, bro. I'm on the elevator, going downstairs. Boom. Cab. Yeah, Take me across the street, man. Went over across the street, man. We over there, man, drinking Hennessy. We turn. They got the music vibing. I'm talking about chicks just running all through that mud. I'm like, man, I ain't leave that Motherfucker till about 4 in the morning, man. Blew me game at 5:00. I'm like, damn. I'm talking about. I ain't sober up till second half. I'm talking about, man, it blew me. By the time I look up, man, I'm looking at this tag game. Rock had like. I think I got like 13 points. I'm like 4, 411 magic. My last three games, I didn't. I done had like 22, 24. You know what I'm saying? I think I had 11 a game before that. Cause I had to lock up Jamil Nelson and Delonte West. Yes, sir, man. So I just knew if we beat them and we got to Ben Gordon them, I say, this is gonna be. All I need to do is get to Ben Gordon and you leave. And I'm not even league. I'm Lottery. If I could lock up Ben Gordon and show the world I'm Lottery. And so what ended up happening was, man, will Bynum end up coming off of Pick and Roll. Hezo and J. Lou floating it over Joy Graham. Y'all know Joy Graham?
Young Nacho
Yes, sir. Twin.
DJ Wells
So Joy Graham. And then right there in that timeout, bro, I ain't gonna lie. That's why. And Luke, you know, I did this boy coach like Eddie Sutton, like, oh, Jake, we gonna sub J. Luke, he was trying to go offense, defense manager. I'm like, hell no. I'm like, dog, J. Luke staying in. We finna get this win. J. Luke gonna get this stop. We up 1. Will Burnham should have came to Oklahoma State. You feel me on that type of time. I'm standing up for my homie.
Young Nacho
Yeah, you from Chicago.
DJ Wells
And we was doing that. Coach was like, oh, all right. Come on, bring it in. We bring it in, man. J. Lou, man, fell for that weekend. I said, oh, hell no. J. Lou, I'm talking about, wait till y'all YouTube. He fit for some weak ass shit, too. I'm thinking, Joey Graham, this motherfucker doing 360s in the layup line, man. He put that weak ass float. I said, man, I couldn't do nothing but look back and just hold my head down. But I had sobered up by then. I'm like, damn, we lost. I'm like, we lost. So then look, right, we go into the. You know, the coaches come in. They come in all mad and shit. They got their head down, they walking, they pace, and they don't want to say nothing.
Bishop B
Yeah, man.
DJ Wells
One of the coaches bust out, Tony Allen. I'm like, what? I'm looking up, you know, we crying motherfuckers. Like, man, I'm thinking like, damn, I'm crying. I'm like, man, I'm hoping they see that. I feel some Type of way. He busts out and said, I know you were out last night. Yeah, we know that. He was like, so when the NBA coaches didn't call for you, we're gonna fuck you. Damn.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Damn.
DJ Wells
I'm like, what? I started crying. I started crying again. I'm like, damn. All I could think is like, damn. Did Will just finesse me? I believe he definitely. Cause you got to realize when he went and played against Ben Gore, he killed him, boy. He had like 19 in the championship game, but they lost. But I think that was my matchup. I ain't gonna lie about. I always tell Ben Gore in that when I see him too, I'd be like, damn, bro, I been wanting that matchup.
Bishop B
Ben was tough.
DJ Wells
He was tough, man. I don't know how high he was.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Nah, he was rookie year, six minutes.
DJ Wells
Who said?
Young Nacho
Troy. One of my first games. I got to play. They ran two chests the whole game. He cooked me.
DJ Wells
That's his cook. He's cooked in the middle there.
Young Nacho
Cooked me. He probably scored 13 in a row. I was like, yeah, I only ready for two guards.
DJ Wells
Hey, look, they were calling him Ben Jordan at one point. For real? Yeah, for sure.
Bishop B
Who was the hardest matchup in college.
DJ Wells
For you, though, Man? A lot of people don't know, man. Andre, Emmett Recipe. Andre. It wasn't no stopping him getting 30, bro. Wasn't no stop. All mid range.
Bishop B
Yeah.
Young Nacho
Dang, that's big boy baskets.
Bishop B
Nah, he was cold, bro.
DJ Wells
I'm talking about he putting all five men in the post.
Bishop B
Damn.
DJ Wells
No, for real. And it's like, damn. Every time I face him, it would be like, either I have a good game and then he'll just have a better game, or he'll just do something late in the game and just take over. Like, I don't know what was about his game. I'm talking about real unorthodox shot and everything, but he just getting buckets. He know how to get buckets, man. And if I had to say one more tough matchup, I think his name. Byron Mouton. Yeah, yeah.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Texas.
DJ Wells
Texas.
Young Nacho
Yeah, Texas.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Buckets, man.
DJ Wells
Oh, man, he used to be a problem, bro.
Young Nacho
He's hooping forces.
Bishop B
Damn. Did he.
DJ Wells
He used to be a problem other than that. Yeah.
Young Nacho
Okay, I'm. Did you always had a handle? Cause, I mean, when people know you from the league, they know you from playing defense. But I remember you from college. I've been a basketball fan my whole life. And you got buckets in college like we talked about. But you always had handle like People underestimated when you got in the league. I'm like, that motherfucker could dribble. One of my best friends back home named Phil, you was his guy. So like Oklahoma State, you was his guy. I was going for St. Joe's I was Jamir Nelson, Deloitte, man.
DJ Wells
T shirts, baby.
Young Nacho
It was my guys, they wore big T shirts, hooped in Barclays.
DJ Wells
That was my squad. But we was right on their heels that whole year. They was one, we was two.
Young Nacho
My buddy with OK, he with St. Joe's but OK State, we played March Madness. He getting OK State. Yeah, he like Tony Allen cold, though. And I'm like. And so when we got older and I seen you, you know, you was known for defense. I'm like, damn, he can't dribble no more. He used to have, you know, in my head. But I know the league, you know, when you get to the league, they give you a role, it change you, but.
DJ Wells
And, but no, it's a Chicago thing, I ain't gonna lie. And then I played with Will the Thrill. So it's like every time, man, me and three people don't know. Me and Thrill used to put on jump souls, bro. All my senior in high school, junior and senior high school, I walked around with them jumps. You know them shoes at the East Bay, bro, Everybody in school used to be like, look at this goofy ass. Hey, shout out to Rodney Carney on me.
Bishop B
Rodney Carney used to walk around the city.
Young Nacho
Yeah.
DJ Wells
And I'm talking about the Jagger Taylor muskrat shoes. Oh, Lord. And one thing for short too.
Bishop B
I need some of them now.
DJ Wells
Are you trying to get back in it? My brother made me some stream shoes though, bro.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
You had some homemade shrimp shoes.
Young Nacho
My brother put a block of wood under some old gym shoes. Put a nail in it as I walk around that.
Bishop B
Oh yeah, Terrell, that's why your knees ain't worth a deal. It ain't cause you jump.
DJ Wells
I didn't know that.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Out the Home Depot joints, he made.
Young Nacho
It with a block.
Bishop B
A horror story.
Young Nacho
Stop, bro.
DJ Wells
Shout out. My brother T tr. No, man, me and him used to just play one on one. And so just picking up his attributes, like, I'm like, damn, that like how he do it. Like, cuz he hit you far left, boom. You know what I'm saying? So I couldn't. I couldn't do it like that. So I had to, you know, come into it like this with the in and out. You feel what I'm saying? And it was always left to Right. You know what I'm saying? I couldn't get it really like that going that way. But no, man, Chicago, man, you gotta. One of the things we always was taught, man, you gotta be able to handle that ball. You feel what I'm saying? If you can't handle that ball, man, what you gonna do on the court, you know what I'm saying? And it's one of them things, man, I inherited early as a kid. And I don't know, man, handling that ball to me, when I got in the league, I couldn't show it simply because it was more like, all right, we need you to be doing 50, 50 shit. Like, you need to be getting loose balls, catching it in transition, getting deflections. Like, that's what they fed to me, you know what I'm saying? And my first year, shit, that's what I had to do, shit, to try to get on the court.
Bishop B
So I know you said, you know, Atlanta said they was gonna pick, you know, we in your draft process right now. How was that first day of practice or what was that draft process like?
DJ Wells
Oh, man, the draft process was crazy. I had how many. I found out how many teams was in 2004. I worked out with everybody except Toronto.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Damn.
DJ Wells
You feel what I'm saying? And so I felt I was the best in shape. It was some workouts, man. I ain't gonna lie, man. Cats would pull out, they'd see me getting the best, they'd be like, my stomach hurt or, oh, pull a hamstring, you know what I'm saying? And I be mad, bro. I be like. I tell him, the coach is like, come on, man, y'all gotta get some more competitors in here, man.
Bishop B
Was y'all doing the full court, one.
DJ Wells
On one shit, all that.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Damn.
DJ Wells
All that.
Young Nacho
That's just.
DJ Wells
And I'm talking about you did that.
Bishop B
In 30 cities, nigga.
DJ Wells
30 cities. I'm telling you. Look, I promise, I was in the best shape, bro. Yeah, that was the best shape of my life, bro. And I ain't gonna lie. The process could be. It could be draining. But, man, we was trying to get. I was trying to feed my family. Nah, you know what I'm saying, It really didn't matter, man. Well, all I needed was one team, bro. Yeah, and in that process, that's all you need, is one team.
Young Nacho
That's a fact.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
And that's crazy. That one team would have been a Boston Celtics 25 first round pick. It's crazy. Cause you was there in Boston pre KG and then posted, you Helped KG get to the championship. How was that? Just touching down in Boston?
Young Nacho
I know they was going through a.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Little bit of a transition, moving on from that wall.
DJ Wells
I was part of that team. I was part of that team that lost 18 games in a row.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yeah. Al Jefferson.
DJ Wells
Ye. I'm talking. But hold on, hold on, hold on.
Bishop B
See, that's that Hennessy Hotel, I'm telling you.
DJ Wells
But look, we was getting busy though. I'm talking about. It was so bad, bro. You know, we was in a losing culture. Because when you come in, in the locker room and you got the stat sheet right there at halftime, you trying to see how you doing, bro. That's a losing fact. Why is you looking at the stat sheet?
Young Nacho
That sound like us a bit of soda, bro. That was us a bit of soda.
DJ Wells
And then. But I ain't gonna lie, I had like a beat. Cause I took my ACL my third year and man, it's one of the freak accidents. One of the things I really regret in the league is playing after the whistle. And I hate when players do it today, but don't none of them fall and hurt. Get hurt like I did. I don't know how that damn happened, but. But tweak it, man. I was averaging like, I wanna say a good like 18, 19 a game. I'm talking about on like a 10 game span. Paul Pierce had just got his extension. Then he went to the media and was like, I need some help. Da da, da, da da. I'm saying to myself, damn, he trying to get some folks up out of here.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Most definitely.
DJ Wells
But it was one day like he had came to me and shut it down. He was like, yo, I'm shutting it down. Da da da. He was like, you got the juice now. He was that hard. I'm like, word. He like, yeah, you starting today. Get ready. And walked away, bro. That's all he needed to tell me. I'm telling you, bro, I went with like an 18 game. I mean a 18 per game points per game streak, bro. And specifically that day, bro, I was going up against Stack Jack, you know Stack Jack, great defender, OG at the time, you know what I'm saying? Looking at the score, I'm like, damn, we playing Indiana. I got like 19 with like six minutes, seven minutes left in the third. I'm saying to myself, I might get 40 today.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Of course basis.
DJ Wells
Of course I'm like, I might get 40. And so I was feeling good. I blew past him, he fouled me. You know, the whistle blow. And then it's right around the time. Remember Bron Bron came in the league making this look sexy. Yeah. So I tried to do one of them, man, and didn't quite get up there, man. Fell dead on my shit, man. That shit popped so loud. Al Harrington like, yo, I'm like, oh, I'm talking about. I'm talking about. And that shit was hurting so bad. Then Stephen Jackson like, what is you doing, bro? Why would you do that, bro? Why would you do that? And boom. All I remember just getting to the back thinking like, no, ain't nothing wrong with it. Ain't nothing wrong with it. Boom. Tried to walk on and do it again, man. I fell out, clapped. They like, yeah, yo, you tow your acl. I was crying, I was hurt. And from then, you know, it was two things that could happen. Cause I end up, you know, I had some troubles, some legal troubles or whatever. And it was two things that happened, bro. It was legal. I get my knee, right? Adapt to my role, do it 110%. Or if I don't try to come back here and try to be on some clear out shit, you know what I'm saying? My ass is out the league. And that was the reality of that. So when I came back, man, we had traded everybody but me and Rondo, sir. You know what I'm saying? That summer we got rid of Delonte west, got rid of Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes, Al Jefferson and Wally Zerbiec. Everybody was gone. And so I'm like, damn, why they keep me? Cause they didn't extend me, you know, my third year. No, they can extend you your third year. You play through your fourth year, then the back kicking. So they signed Al Jefferson four years, like 70 something. And bro, we got KG like that. We sent Wally Xerbiak to Seattle and.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
We got Ray Allen.
DJ Wells
And so right then and there, I'm like, damn, hold on. We got three hall of Famers, like, what the hell? Where do I fit in at? And Doc Rivers, he had pulled me to the side, brought me, he was like, you see what happened? Like what? We traded everybody. We kept you. So in order for you to get on this court and play, you need to be doing everything they not doing. Cause they're scorers, they're gonna get majority of the shots. Like, you need to be getting loose balls, taking charges, diving on the floor, getting deflections, playing the passing lane and shoot. When you get low clock, I'm like.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Damn, not wide open, low clock.
DJ Wells
I mean, I'm wide open. Eighteen on the clock. That ain't a good shot coach. Hell no. I said okay Cool.

DJ Wells
That's what it be, though.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
That's love.
DJ Wells
That's what's up. But he kept it G, though. You feel what I'm saying? Like, ain't too many coaches running up on you like. Like, if they ain't with you and they. And they know your window short, they just gonna throw you out there every fuck up. Then they looking upstairs at the gym like, oh, God.
Young Nacho
That's how Woody was doing me. That's crazy.
DJ Wells
Then you wondering like, okay. But then he kept me in. I ain't gonna lie, man. That was the most stressful year. I ain't gonna lie. Trying to get back. You know what I'm saying? Get over my. You know, my things I had going on. And just my knee, man, just. I couldn't. I was scared. I had to wear the brace. I'm talking about the brace. Looking so bad. I ain't gonna lie. I remember one time I had the brace on and Chris Wilcox tried to come set a pig. His knee hit my brace. He like, damn. Wooden leg, ass knee. He for the Internet.
Bishop B
Chris Wilcox, his technology wasn't.
DJ Wells
That's a stone cold Steve Austin brace, man. That brace was so. I hated that brace, bro. I ain't gonna lie.
Young Nacho
Chris Bosh used to wear that brace. That shit used to hurt when he said scream.
DJ Wells
For real? No, for real. And I ain't gonna lie. I was still trying to just get back, seeing. Trying to get my bounce. I was timid. I was scared. But I went through the process, man, and I was able to start, you know, just strengthening my knee and cat back. So big shout out to Brian Dewin and Walter Norton. Them folks got me back, right, Man, I'm strength And conditioning.
Bishop B
It took a full year to shake back. It took a full year to shake back.
DJ Wells
Ooh, yeah. It took Daniel. Cause I heard it the middle of the season and I ain't come back. Yeah, it took about a whole year. About a year?
Bishop B
Yeah, a year.
DJ Wells
I think I came back early then. It was contract. It was my fourth year, so it was like, shit, if it was seven months, I had to get back out there. You feel me? Yeah, for sure.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
And what's crazy is, like, you said, contract situation. You going to know what I'm saying. That championship year, man, how was that run, man?
DJ Wells
What I like about that is the way we came together. We was in Italy. We started in Italy. And Tigg, P. Ray Pose. I mean, Perk, you know, the starting five, pretty much, they all went bald. They're like, we gonna be on the same Accord which formed the Bench Mob. Cause we was like, all right, two things can happen. These. We gotta be on the same page like them. That was that message right there.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
And.
DJ Wells
And we set forth the title vision right then and there. Like, we go, man. Training camps was hard. I'm talking about everybody getting extra shots up, guys getting there early. Like, we set the foundation right then and there, man. I'm talking about. It was some of the best scrimmages, man, I've probably been a part of, man. And I don't know. It just felt like. Felt like Doc knew what he was doing.
Young Nacho
You knew y'all was gonna win and.
Bishop B
Did all y'all cut y'all hair off?
DJ Wells
No, you know, I had to keep my face.
Bishop B
I didn't want to go over there. Cause a couple of them didn't have no choice, man.
DJ Wells
I got a peanut, bro. I ain't gonna lie. I can't. I can't. I couldn't have did it, man. I ain't gonna lie. I remember Eddie House. Like.
Bishop B
That'S what you want. Hard, digital, fat. Five niggas.
DJ Wells
Oh, man, he going bald. Not if I don't have to, bro.
Young Nacho
Come on. Hell, no.
DJ Wells
And so that. But I think that right there, man, it just showed that they were sacrificing everything, man. And they came together, man. And you know who else was like, a real voice in the locker room, man, was James Post. You know, he had that swagger. Like, you know, I've been there before. Like, when we be fucking up. This ain't it, man. Same it, brothers. This ain't championship spirit right here. Like, he'll be the first one. Check everybody. I'm talking about. Let Tiggin them know this ain't it. Like, he'll tell Pete, no, that ain't it, bro. Boza been on the weak side, bro. You got like, he'll straighten guys. Not in the disrespectful way, but more so like, bro, I've been to the promised land already. What y'all doing, ain't it? Yeah. And so I always took sheets out of his book, bro. You know what I'm saying? I'm talking about the guy used to come in there, bro, with a laptop. Big ass laptop. They give him the, you know, the edits on who he's sticking. He'll watch they isos, he'll watch they transitions. He'll watch they offensive rebound. He'll watch they catch and shoots. And he'll be watching that all the way. Until then, they're like, game time or not until it's time to go get his treatment. Cause our treatment table, we ran some old heads. It was every. All the mothers was. Listen, I didn't understand what the hell the treatment table was. I'm like, why the hell did these motherfuckers sit on that table so long? But when I. I was young, I was learning from those veterans and seeing how they take care of their body, seeing how they prepare. Ray Allen get there three, four hours early, get shots up. He showered. He in a hot tub, cold tub. Now he reading the book. I'm like, damn. Okay. That's how you get ready. Ticket. He got. Damn it. He got this heat pack. He's got his feet on the heat pack. He's sitting there, just ain't saying nothing to nobody. I'm like, damn. What, he meditating? Getting ready to go in there, do about 50 squats with the dumbbells. I'm like, damn. Okay, he getting ready. Then Paul, he was just. He was just. He was just hilarious. He had coming out, bro. He just. He like. He look at your shoes. Like, what's those, killer? Like, he was just too freelance, you.
Young Nacho
Know what I'm saying?
DJ Wells
So I really didn't want to take nothing out of his book, bro. I ain't gonna lie.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Cause I, yeah, I ain't wanna take.
DJ Wells
Nothing out of his book, bro. But I always listened to him. And when he got serious and he was in my ear, I always listened to him, you know what I'm saying? And just taking those guys professionalism, I think it carried on in my career. You feel what I'm saying? I used that as like, damn. Okay. Going running in the papa before you go and get to the Game, right before the game. That ain't healthy, you know what I'm saying? Not getting enough rest. That ain't healthy, you know what I'm saying? All this extra ass shit I was doing before pre acl, after acl. When they got there, I straightened my whole professionalism up. I ain't gonna hold you for sure.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
I wanna ask, how does it feel to see them now in different spaces? You see KG and people, they show. You see Kendrick Perkins on espn. Like to know them personally and see how they are to them to be the new media. How's that now? Because they all represent the real stuff. Like y'all one together, you know, they real dudes, especially behind basketball.
DJ Wells
Yeah, man, and they cut from a cloth, man. That's sold separately. Yeah, them guys some real dudes, man. I ain't gonna lie. When we played together, man, we did everything together, you know what I'm saying? KG forcibly made everybody one team, one goal. You feel what I'm saying? We gonna go out together. Gonna go in together. Gonna go in together. You feel what I'm saying? He made that clear soon as he got in the dope. You feel what I'm saying? And then. Hold on, hold on, hold on. Hey, they loud as hell.
Young Nacho
Oh, God. I thought you was about to say.
Bishop B
I was, but.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Even better.
DJ Wells
Yeah, calm down. I lost my train.
Young Nacho
We Mitchell next with it.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Shout out to Mitchell Ness, you know his love.
DJ Wells
But no, man, I ain't gonna lie. Those guys, bro. I ain't gonna lie those guys. I ain't gonna lie, man. You gotta understand where they coming from. Cause if you look at today's game, they probably might be a little too outraged for today's game, you know what I'm saying? The way they play, how vocal they are. They got the alpha male syndrome, you know what I'm saying? And I don't think that's allowed in locker rooms today. And I just look at it like, damn, man. Like I said, they come from across. That ain't sold no more down there. Cause they real dudes, man. And when you hear what they talking about, you actually gotta understand what the leagues and the times and the eras that they played in. It was a no bullshit type era, you feel what I'm saying? They come ticket played in an era where you could hand check a motherfucker. Now do you. Can you imagine having to hand check a motherfucker for 94ft and get away with it? How many motherfuckers? Come on, you ain't doing that.
Young Nacho
How many stills you have you can do that.
DJ Wells
What? I have at least five. At least five off the muscle. If you get five, that means you gonna have a few games with 10, 7, 9. You know what I'm saying? But. And the eras that they played, I just think you gotta respect they g. When they talking or giving their opinion. And I like the space that perks in. Perks in a more corporate type podcast or, you know, whatever. Whatever. But he doing his thing, man. Shout out. Big perk, man. I used to call him Swamp Thing Boy. Get the sweat neck coming out that sauna. I'd be like, God, boy. This is Swamp Thing.
Bishop B
That's crazy.
DJ Wells
He inherited that nickname, too. He liked that nickname.
Bishop B
That's what I order at Papa Dog.
Young Nacho
Oh, God. Oh, God.
Bishop B
That's what I order at Papa Dog.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
It's funny because, see, you talk about TA's handle, so I always think about KP. Every time he pop up is him drive in the driveway.
Young Nacho
That'S ended up crossing.
DJ Wells
No big fella, I ain't gonna lie. He always wanted to be like a guard, man. He used to try to come and get in our drills when we was. We warm up and stuff like that. He loves, like, shooting jump shots. I ain't gonna lie. Big fella always had guard mentality. But yeah, them guys, I ain't gonna lie. Like I said, I like the space they in.
Young Nacho
For sure.
DJ Wells
For sure.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Man, listen, man, y'all got it done, man. Before we get to, you know what I'm saying, the next chapter of your career, we gotta talk about that championship, man. It gets the Lakers, man. Damn, they're built to ass. Situation on the lowest of keys.
DJ Wells
Yeah, I ain't gonna lie. You know, y'all had him back. You know, we won one, lost one.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
To him, most definitely.
DJ Wells
So the one that we won, I think, you know, I ain't play that much. I ain't finna sit on here, Cap. It was all James Post. It was James Post now, y'all.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Bitch was always going crazy.
DJ Wells
He got one of already, man, listen, I ain't getting the game if we was up 30 or down 30. But one thing for sure too, for certain, I'm different than you, Jeff. Hey, cuz, cuz, listen, listen. When I got my little time, I tried to shine. And when we kicked it, I went and kicked.
Young Nacho
Y'all kicked it.
Bishop B
We ain't kicking.
DJ Wells
Where we going? Vegas. Oh, yeah. Come on, Ray. I'll be on that jet right there with you.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Shout out to Milwaukee. We try.
DJ Wells
We trying to make it right. Y'all didn't turn up. You went and played some video games. Man, I went back to the crib of champagne, man.
Young Nacho
I wanted to do all that. I was gonna be the craziest one in Vegas. I was gonna have the big major bottle. I was gonna act like I had 30 a night.
DJ Wells
That's what you was supposed to do.
Young Nacho
I was gonna turn it up for him, but nobody want to go.
DJ Wells
But look, I ain't gonna lie, though. One thing about our championship. The only thing out there, that was funny to me, bro, you know. You know, you go through, you thinking it's about to be unlimited bottles of champagne and th. Man, I look at the DVD the other day, man, and they got clips of Ticket pouring Miller's Light on me.
Bishop B
Bro.
DJ Wells
Bro, what's wrong with y'all? How y'all run out of Moet, man? What's going on, man?
Young Nacho
I had. I had a big bottle of Sencora. Yeah, I was walking around with the. The lead.
DJ Wells
The one y'all got me ran out of Moab. It's crazy.
Bishop B
Where'd y'all go out to? Do y'all go to the club?
DJ Wells
Hell, no. I think we went over Ticket crib. You know, Ticket had the big boy match. Yeah, Everybody went over there, kicked it. You know, that was big, though. I ain't gonna lie. I fuck with the Celtics organization, man. They show love. I ain't gonna lie. They, you know, they big time organization facts. I remember you saying something about the food when they got outta shoot around. They do that at top notch. I'm saying go on the road. They got brunch. Go on the road. They food after. I love the way they handled all their business, though.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yeah, for sure, man.
Young Nacho
They did that. They was fire. When I played there for my half a year, my cup of coffee, it was definitely top notch, though.
DJ Wells
But losing it as far as getting to the. To the. To the 2010 one, which I thought we should have won. Kobe shot his worst percentage of shooting that year.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Talk your shit.
DJ Wells
No, no, for real. I'm just giving you.
Bishop B
Okay, you go.
DJ Wells
Damn.
Bishop B
The club over there.
DJ Wells
That was you. We was at D. Rose walking up on me.
Bishop B
No, that Kobe story.
DJ Wells
This walk up on me. Listen to this, bro.
Bishop B
Don't nobody know you looking good.
DJ Wells
No. Everybody shaking my head.
Bishop B
Shout out to my D. Rose.
DJ Wells
This walk up to the.
Bishop B
Talk about him and his. I forgot. Shout out to ho.
DJ Wells
We too. I forgot.
Bishop B
Yeah. Shout out to Project. Don't nobody know you got fire in her.
DJ Wells
Ha.
Bishop B
Drunk ass nigga.
DJ Wells
That motherfucker Vibing like, yeah, like, you know Shake. You know you and all that old. I said, hold on, let me go straight. You in my city, D. And I know you on 5, 20, acting up. You talking about making everybody upset, but everybody scared this motherfucker here up. I say, that's no, I know you.
Bishop B
Everybody taking pictures with the nigga and like, n. Get your own ass on.
DJ Wells
That nigga's crazy. But, yeah, man, like, I say that. That specific year, bro, I honestly, I was taking everything out of James Posey Book, okay? And I don't think he get his flowers, shout out to James Book, get his flowers, bro. And, man, I was able to just lock in, watch Kobe's jab step, watch his footwork in the post, watch his head fake, head fake, head fake. Cause I had my rookie year. I had fouled out six. Six fouls in eight minutes.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Damn.
DJ Wells
So, yeah. So wait, Coach A said, you are after three. You said, fuck it.
Young Nacho
You lose all them.
DJ Wells
They threw me in the blender. You feel what I'm saying? But it took years and years and years and years and years of studying that, man, after Posey left. And that's how I was able to key in on him, like, all right, I ain't finna fall for that head fake no more. I ain't finna. That jab step you doing, you gonna have to swing through and go all the way. That fade away. I ain't contesting with my left hand. I'm contesting that way we fade to the right. Yeah, I ain't contesting with my right. I'm contesting with my left hand. You know what I'm saying? I ain't following you on your elbow no more. I ain't scared of you no more, dude. Pretty much. And that finals, like I say, Doc Rivers, he rolled it with his guys, as he should, you know what I'm saying? Rightfully so. I'm gonna roll with the guys who's been proven, who's been in the league and did it. But if Perk wouldn't have got hurt.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
I was about to say, if Pert didn't get hurt, he could play that last game.
DJ Wells
Swamp Thing wouldn't have got hurt, bro. We done won that championship.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Most definitely. Then after that, man, you bring it in.
Bishop B
Oh, no, man.
DJ Wells
Nah.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
I think if KP plays that, bro.
DJ Wells
He was locking them guys up. He was having a hard time.
Bishop B
That he was, bro.
DJ Wells
But buying them and Paul, they was having a hard time.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yeah, I think. I think, honestly, they would get that serious if he plays for sure.
DJ Wells
You a high. You a Russian judge.
Bishop B
I with themselves, this boys, you know, Casey, you know it's still check up every time I see you, but I don't know, man. I just think it was a.
Young Nacho
He really wanted to play you.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Win the matchup between him and Ticket, man.
Young Nacho
They got a ticket.
DJ Wells
Really want to play him, bro.
Bishop B
That's why he got me up.
Young Nacho
Thank you. Was really mad, bro. He said, don't play with me.
DJ Wells
Yeah, right now. No, no, he take it there. No, we sure.
Bishop B
We talked. What's the name?
Young Nacho
That was funny.
Bishop B
Ain't nobody ever talked to me like that. I don't give a check ball wait.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
For that game on DraftKings.
DJ Wells
For sure.
Young Nacho
I got. I'm taking on today.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
I'm taking on now. We gotta talk about it, man. You took. You know what I'm saying? Took your skills to Memphis, man. Changed the culture, man. Changed the entire culture of that team. Shout out to Ja Moran. He got the city rocking right now. But what you did and what that team did for Memphis, man, rejuvenated that city, man. You brought a real different type of energy, man. How was that transition from Boston down to Memphis?
DJ Wells
Well, the transition was, man, I ain't gonna lie. I signed with them late. It was like mid August, some shit like that. And I was sitting at the crib thinking, like, damn, this might be it. I was like, damn, I just went through the finals and nobody want me. And then I'm like, damn, okay. It clicked. Cause Chris Wallace, he drafted me in Boston. He was the assistant general manager in Boston. So when he got there and he saw what I did in the finals, he was like, yo, I need that. Called me, told me like, yo, I need that. He's like, but it's one thing, though. He was like, are you and Z Bo gonna be able to play with each other? I'm like, what you mean? He was like, you guys are two different affiliations. You know, I just don't want it to be a problem. He's like, I got 9.7 million on the table for you. You just need to know about you and Z Bo. I'm like, man, stop playing. One love. That's my man. That's my man. What we doing? And then when I got there and I finally got a chance to be around Z Bo, man, just to understand his heart and just. Just how. Just a big teddy bear, you know what I'm saying? But don't play with him, like, you know, table. I'm just saying here.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
No, don't.
DJ Wells
He one of the guys. It was like. It was like when I first met him, the first thing. Cause we was at Lorenz and Wright funeral recipes. Lorenz, he was like, yeah, man, I saw you in the finals. This, that and the other. He was like, man, he's like, man, I wanna get there, bro. He was like, man, he's like, you gonna bring that championship mentality to the locker room, bro. He's like, we gonna make some noise, bro. We missed the playoffs last year. He was like, just excited. And I'm like, my n. You feel what I'm saying? And once we got to the season, it was like, damn. When, you know, I just didn't play. Coach didn't want. He just didn't play me. Like, I'm like, damn, I just got the finals, man. Y'all just the laughingstock of the league over here. What y'all doing, bro? Play me and Coach Hollins at the time, what I got intel on was he wanted to pick sign Darrell Wright, okay? He wanted spacing and shooting, but Chris Wallace thought like, shit, we need some stops down the stretch. You feel what I'm saying? At the two spot. And so it took me a minute to, like, even, you know, get some minutes. And specifically this one day where I had. I got some minutes against Kevin Durant. I didn't study for him. I was doing film on James Harden, watched all his clips coming out that corner with Nick Collison catching dribble.
Young Nacho
Handoff, handoff in the corner.
DJ Wells
I was studying all that. And then I look up, it's 38 on the clock, and they, like, wiping off the board and putting Tony Name next to Kevin Durant name. I take my headphones out, look at Rudy. I'm like, rudy, you ain't playing Rudy. Like, he trying to be quiet and shit. I'm like, nah, hold on, man. I ain't study for dude. You feel what I'm saying? I was like, fuck. I put my headphone back on. Boom. Go out there, man. I'm talking about. I had a solid game, like, like 27, 7. Rebound fast still.
Young Nacho
Nah, you had a game.
DJ Wells
But I was so hot, though. I was real hot. I was still hot at Rudy. I'm like, mother. He pulled the plate. Why would you throw me in this situation? And then when the cameraman came, I think he finna come holler at Z Bo. Cause Z bo had like 30 and 15 or some shit. And he like, no, no, no, you. I'm like, but I'm trying to walk back to the locker room so I can get on Rudy ass. And he was like, yeah, this performance came. I know you haven't been playing in many minutes. And da, da, da. Where did this come from? I'm so hot. I'm just like, it's all heart, grit, grind. Like, really? But this was supposed to get shot in the locker room, you feel what I'm saying? And he caught it. But by the time I get back to the city, man, the whole city picked up on grit and grind. Like, that's our mentality, this is our identity right here and there. He just did it. You feel? He just cracked open up the bottle. What we gonna hold our hats on? And before you know it, bro, like I said, man, we just made noise from that point on, man, you coming at arena, baby, playing Whoop that Up.
Bishop B
That was cause of this.
DJ Wells
No, I ain't gonna lie. I didn't have no control over that. Whoever did that, I'm gonna find out. That was gangster.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
My boy did find out who did that.
DJ Wells
That was gangster, bro. And it only played when we whooping your ass.
Young Nacho
I was coming on the court one game, whoop that trick. I was like, I like, nah. I went back to Atlanta. I was like, yeah, we gotta play some better. Like, you know, we play fire music in Atlanta. But I'm like, they playing Whoop that trick, y'all.
Bishop B
The pregame for the.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
That's a different type of interview.
DJ Wells
That true, that, true that. Yeah.
Young Nacho
I'm like, whoop that trick.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
It's crazy, man. That's crazy because you go from, you know what I'm saying, figuring out your ministry and then you, you know what I'm saying? The jersey about to go up, man. How that feel, man?
DJ Wells
Yeah, yeah, yeah, man. I mean, it's. It's ab. Actually a dream come true, man. You know, coming from where I come from, you know, Housing Authority, you know, just overcoming a lot of hurdles growing up, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, scrapping, fighting, clawing. I'm talking about trying to just even get in the. Just the ranks of playing basketball, man. Y'all know, y'all t. You know how hard this is, man. Just stay in the league. It's a three to four year span with some players and, man, to even overcome that and not be one of your, you know, top notch scorers, the most liked, I just gotta do it on, like I say, the all heart side. You feel what I'm saying? The great and grandson and just for, you know, them to honor my body of work. Memphis definitely showed me love. So like I say, Man, I got nothing but love for that organization. I rep the organization everywhere, most definitely, proudly. And like I say, it's a dream come true, man. I'm very appreciative of.
Bishop B
You did 14 years.
DJ Wells
14 years solid, bro.
Bishop B
14 years. Yeah.
DJ Wells
I don't wanna talk about my time in New Orleans.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Talking about that last year, that's when.
Young Nacho
I first really met ta. Who was I with? We was walking down, you know, got the shoe store.
Bishop B
Well, now you gotta talk about it.
Young Nacho
Nah, nah, nah. He pulled up for the. I might have been with J. Lou.
DJ Wells
Yeah. At the restaurant. Yeah, yeah.
Young Nacho
And you pulled up in his.
DJ Wells
You had.
Young Nacho
He was like, yeah, it's bulletproof. He pulled up in, like, a truck.
DJ Wells
It's bulletproof. What? Crazy, man.
Young Nacho
And he just pulled off.
DJ Wells
Yeah. No, I ain't gonna lie. My time in the world was. That's why I say Coach Gentry, man. I ain't gonna lie. He was not with me, bro. I ain't gonna lie. He was like, yeah. He always say, stay ready. Yeah, we're gonna need you. We gonna need you.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yeah, yeah.
DJ Wells
Stay ready. We gonna need you. Man. Didn't need shit from me on the real. I said, man, all right.
Bishop B
Do you know why he a. With you? It just was. Did y'all have running in or something?
DJ Wells
I mean. I mean, the people that was playing in front of me, I ain't gonna lie. Big salute to them who was playing in front of me. Etwan Moore, Smoke B. Miller. And I think that's it. The moment to go out. But I just didn't think he was using his. Utilizing his obstacle.
Bishop B
Right, right, right.
DJ Wells
But end up tearing my knee a little bit. I think I had got, like, a fracture in my knee.
Bishop B
Oh, shit.
DJ Wells
And then. But I thought that year. I ain't gonna lie. I thought we was gonna win it the way. Shit. The way Drew Holliday was playing.
Bishop B
We talk about that all the time.
DJ Wells
The way Anthony Davis and them was both. They both was averaging 25.
Bishop B
What y'all did to Portland, that's what made me think, like, oh, they can take it all. Then boogie got hurt. I was like.
DJ Wells
And so when boogie. And then that's what I said. Boogie, the way he was playing, man, the way he was changing his attitude. Like, the way I'm talking about, he was. He was a team player. Like, he was like. He got the stigma off his name. What was in Sacramento. And I love for that, man. I ain't gonna lie. Big shout out to boogie man. And that specific. Yeah. Like I said, I just. It Was unfortunate for Boogie to get hurt. And then they traded all us. Me, Jamil. Yeah, he just bust that shit wide open.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
They went crazy for sure. Listen, man, we appreciate you, man. Before you get outta here, we gotta shout out to show, man.
DJ Wells
Oh, yeah, out the mud, man. Y'all tune in, man. We got a special guest coming soon.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yes, sir.
Bishop B
We gonna get in that motherfucker.
Young Nacho
Nah, true.
Bishop B
He put me on. Jeff put me on, yo.
DJ Wells
Oh, yeah. You ain't know, but it was early, though.
Bishop B
Road Caught you. Our first episode.
Young Nacho
I watched the first episode.
DJ Wells
We working, man. We working, man. And one thing about this podcast world, man, what I like about it is I get to see people's journeys. I get to see how they. You know what I'm saying? Damn. You went through that. Damn. That was going on at the time. Okay. Those guys you had to face against. I like hearing that because every guy's story is different, and every guy's got a story to tell, so I like hearing it, man. And the one thing about getting to the league, it ain't a right, bro. It's a privilege. So to be a part of that fraternity, man, and talk to guys about that and hear how they came about it, man. I love it, man. I love him.
Young Nacho
And you good at it. That's what's crazy to me.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Like.
Young Nacho
Like, I'm listening. Like this actually good. He asked the right question, and I was like, it's good. So. Nah, this fire. I'll be. I'm a fan. I watch every episode. Like I told you, y'all came out the gate with Jaren Jackson.
Host of Club 520 Podcast
Yeah.
Young Nacho
K.D. d, Rob, like.
DJ Wells
And that's one thing, man. Once you keeping it real. Once you. You know what I'm saying with you, man. They gonna with you. And that's all we do, man. We want to give everybody they flowers and just let them know, man. It's all love, man.
Bishop B
Oh, before we do get out here, I want to say you also a right for what you did for to Al Jefferson truck, bro.
DJ Wells
Oh, you talked that.
Bishop B
That was my first one. I said this here. Remember?
DJ Wells
I text you, hey, listen, don't not give me your. Do not give me your car, bro.
Bishop B
Yeah. Can you please just before we got here, bro, tell them what you did to this Negro truck, bro.
DJ Wells
So, look, man, I get the comment. You know, we was real.
Bishop B
Tell them what it is.

It was a Humvee, okay? So now we was real big on switching cars. And me, I did the nightlife a lot. So I be out. I want to get Gerald Green car. Sometimes I switch up with Perk. Sometimes I switch up with whoever, right? And this specific time, I wanted to ride a Humvee. Cause. Cause Al had put some like, four 5 12s in the back of that mother, that motherfucker beating so hard. I'm like. So I end up going on a date. And you know, Cheesecake Factory just came out, bro. So that was the move. But when you go into the clearance, you know, I don't know why I ain't getting folks $100 and pay for the ballet right there in four seasons. My cheap ass went right over there to the $12 parking. And it clearly tell you it's a clearance. I ain't think of the clearance. Cause the music's so loud, I'm trying to really show out in front of the chick, man. I went through that motherfucker like, boom, boom. I say, what the hell are they shooting? I pull. I kept going, bro. I kept going, bro. I'm like, hey, I ain't know what was going on. So we get out the car, bro. Soon we get out the car. The girl like, is the car supposed to be like that? I look back, I say, man, this man gonna kill me.

The conversation delves deep into his personal experiences, the dynamics of professional sports, and lessons learned along the way.
Tony Allen kicks off the conversation by reminiscing about his high school basketball days.
Tony Allen:
"I dropped out of high school during freshman year because my grades weren’t up to par. I couldn’t play basketball without maintaining a certain GPA, so I ended up at Crane where things started to change for me."
[06:34]
He discusses the challenges of balancing academics and athletics, leading to his eventual redemption through basketball.
Tony delves into his time at Butler Community College in Kansas, highlighting both triumphs and setbacks.
Tony Allen:
"At Butler, I was averaging 16 points a game but got kicked out for smoking weed. It was a turning point that led me to Walt Bass Valley, where I teamed up with Antoine Barber. Antoine’s determination pushed me to excel despite the obstacles."
[25:02]
He reflects on the influence of his teammates and coaches, particularly praising Coach Eddie Sutton for his guidance and unwavering support.
Discussing his entry into the NBA, Tony shares insights into the draft process and the intense competition he faced.
Tony Allen:
"The draft process was grueling. I worked out with every team except Toronto, trying to prove I was the best in shape. It was exhausting, but all I needed was one team to give me that break."
[39:09]
Tony recounts the importance of perseverance and staying ready for opportunities, emphasizing that making it to the NBA is a privilege earned through relentless effort.
One of the episode's highlights is Tony's reflection on the 2008 NBA Finals, where he played a pivotal role for the Boston Celtics against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Tony Allen:
"Playing in the Finals was surreal. The intensity, the pressure—it pushed me to my limits. We faced incredible talent like Kobe Bryant, and every game was a battle."
[50:15]
He shares behind-the-scenes stories about team dynamics, coaching strategies, and memorable on-court moments that defined the series.
Tony reminisces about specific games and interactions with teammates that left a lasting impact on his career.
Tony Allen:
"One game against Ben Gordon was unforgettable. I was locked in defensively, trying to shut him down. Even though we didn't win, that matchup was something special."
[34:28]
He also touches upon his defensive prowess and how his style of play evolved over the years, adapting to different team needs and coaching philosophies.
The conversation shifts to Tony's personal struggles, including injuries and legal challenges, and how he overcame them to maintain his legacy in the NBA.
Tony Allen:
"I tore my ACL during a crucial game, and walking out after the whistle was a mistake that cost me dearly. But with the support of my coaches and teammates, I rebuilt myself stronger both physically and mentally."
[36:33]
He emphasizes the importance of resilience, discipline, and the support system that helped him navigate through tough times.
Tony discusses the significance of teamwork and leading by example, highlighting the roles of key teammates and mentors.

"Players like James Posey were instrumental. They kept us focused and brought that championship mentality to the locker room. It wasn’t just about individual talent, but how we came together as a unit."
[50:41]

Tony Allen:
"Making it to the NBA is not a right; it's a privilege earned through relentless effort."
