But the summer, there's so many transplants out there now. But I feel like if we go together, we would have a good time. But the Summer Walker skit, it was really, really fun because Lex and I did that whole thing impromptu.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Wow.
Draya Michele
So it was like off the top of our head. They just kind of gave us the set list and gave us the people that gonna have on the album. And we just kind of came up with like some banter back and forth.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.

Andréa Lewis (Lex)
that she was
Draya Michele
gonna have on the album, but it
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
was really dope and I'm really like, I love when people have these large platforms and are superstars and they collaborate with everybody in our culture because that's what we need to do.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You know, I'm not bashing any other podcast or any other anybody else, but in our culture, we need to keep it in the family. And the fact that she included us in her album was like such a big deal because again, me and Dre were like regular girls podcasting. So the fact that we have built this and we're able to come on your platform do Summer Walker's album, that's like a testament. Like, yeah, the people they with us and anybody can do this. You know, that's awesome. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Meg, she's from Houston, and she had a very public breakup. I'm a firm believer if you date in public, you got a breakup in public.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
And if I would say anything, and I'm not being judgmental here, I just think she probably should have waited just a little while before posting so much.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Hell no. Put that nigga in the dirt. I'm not keeping no nigga secrets. You got me? She did the right thing. She probably took a little sick of that chica tequila that she got and went online. Yes. You embarrassed me.
Draya Michele
You hurt my.
Shannon Sharpe
No, no, But I'm saying. No. How about keep the relationship in the beginning, private?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's too late now.
Shannon Sharpe
No, but I'm saying. But that was my point.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, but I think it would have been hard for them. It's Klay Thompson and Megan Thee Stallion. Even if they were at dinner, she can't go to a game. So it's like they're kind of like. When you are that high profile, you gotta post it.
Shannon Sharpe
You ain't gotta put it on ig.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I mean, you don't have to put it on ig, but we was gonna see it anyway.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Courtside at all his games. Damn. I can't post on the boat. I'm on the boat with my man, and I'm having a good time. I can't live there.
Shannon Sharpe
You go with her. My man. My man. My man.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
My man. My man.
Cal Penn
My man.
Draya Michele
Her man. Her man.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I'm just saying.
Draya Michele
I just. I don't know. I do kind of feel like even when it comes to breaking up, you should just do it in private.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
Let people make they assumptions.
Shannon Sharpe
Thank you.
Draya Michele
Thank you, Dr. And I told Lex before I said this on our show, just because you blast somebody on the Internet, that doesn't mean that's not going to stop other women.
Shannon Sharpe
Other women trying to get at it.
Draya Michele
It doesn't mean anything. You just blasted him. Oh, okay, cool. But, like, what is that really doing for you? Does it. It might make you feel good in that moment, but later down the line, I feel like us as women and men, too. Like, anybody who acts out on the Internet, unless you mentally ill, you going to look back on it and be like, damn, I wish I wouldn't have did.
Shannon Sharpe
Unfollowing. That's so childy. Un. Y' all really do that? That's what y' all doing now? Y' all to unfollow. That's the thing. Huh?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I'll say this. I think that she let us know he was a whole Ass nigga.
Shannon Sharpe
Ah, there you go.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Why he like not a real though? Not a real bitch.
Shannon Sharpe
Why he like that now?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Cause I mean, the bare minimum in a relationship is to be faithful. If you can't be faithful, just don't be in a relationship. Now there's bigger things that people break up over, you know, compatibility.
Shannon Sharpe
I'm growing.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You're growing. But cheating is such a high school college ass shit to do. Like we grown, you know what I'm saying? So I just think like that was some fuck shit. And I think she was an emotional in the moment. Maybe she shouldn't have done it, maybe not. He shouldn't have put that dick in
Draya Michele
whoever he was putting it.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, now you know he need to go to hell. But see you taking her aside, you don't know that.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
To be fair, he made a pan of baked beans for him. Did you see that whole spread? I love beans.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, she cooks baked gifts.
Draya Michele
I definitely feel like I agree with Lex because I'm on her side too. I do feel like cheating is the bare minimum. Like you can be faithful. If you're not gonna be faithful, why be in a relationship with somebody to begin with? And if you are a man who you don't wanna be faithful, find somebody who into that polygamy sheet. Find somebody who.
Orderly Meds Advertiser
Find a. Haha.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
David.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh my God.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, wait, too soon, too soon.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, baby, way too soon.
Draya Michele
Find somebody who. Okay, you dealing with other women and she'll just turn a blind eye to it or not even turn a blind eye. It's an understanding and an agreement that y' all have. But at the end of the day, if you get into a relationship with somebody and you have them thinking that you're gonna be a faithful man, think that that's up. But sometimes I definitely just feel like us as women, we be doing ourselves a disservice by going off on the Internet. Because it's still going to be somebody who's going to be okay with dealing with all of that that you're not okay with dealing with. So what are you really stopping? To be honest, and especially once you move on and you happy and you find your man and you find a situation you want to be in. What was the point in all of this?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Well, I think too not saying that she was right or wrong, but I think now.
Draya Michele
But I'm not talking about her, I'm just saying in general.
Cal Penn
In general.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, for sure.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Well, I think that kind of, it kind of releases a signal though, because even though he is probably is gonna get Another woman and move on and be happy. But honestly, when men start acting out like that and you let it be known the value of women that they get, honestly goes down. Like a lot of times when you see a man of value is what society says and you be like, why is he single? Because a woman that's worth a damn, the women that's worth a damn don't want that shit.
Draya Michele
I don't think men of value a lot of the time want successful women anyway.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Well, I'm not saying successful women. I'm saying women of value.
Shannon Sharpe
A woman of value, somebody, he buy Bentley. Okay, you talking about he buying Bentley. He buying roll. Roy Cullinan, not the culinary.
Draya Michele
He was buying Bentleys.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
He did buy himself. But all I'm saying is, though, because a man of value, we tie men to their value. As in what your worth is.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes, for sure.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
A woman of value is what we bring to the table as far as is she's still in her childbearing years. Can she cook? Do she look good? Her personality? Is she nurturing? So it's a lot of things that go into a woman of value. So I'm not even saying successful woman. I'm saying a woman that really wants a marriage and kids and all these beautiful things that men consider valuable, a lot of times it kind of knocks them down on the toe.
Draya Michele
Yeah, I don't know. Cause we be seeing it. We live in Atlanta. Like, it's plenty of women who still would go and have a baby with.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But is she valuable?
Draya Michele
I don't think they care about that, to be honest. I don't.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They fuck.
Draya Michele
What do you think, Shannon? I mean, I think there are.
Shannon Sharpe
I don't think. I don't think. I don't think one iota. I don't think it's gonna stop anything. Yeah, just like. Just like. It's just like famous women might be with 10, 15 different guys. They still go. Somebody gonna still a guy gonna still want to get with them.
Draya Michele
I think women wanna. Want a lot of things to be true. But just because we want it to be true, that doesn't mean that this was gonna happen and come to fruition.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They need to stop. Everybody need to stop. Shannon, it's too dirty out there.
Shannon Sharpe
Did you hear what Cardi B. Said? Cardi B. Said her next relationship, she gonna keep it private.
Draya Michele
She should.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, Cardi go keep it private, huh?
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
Uh.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, yeah.
Draya Michele
Come on now.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Okay, Michelle, he finna be carrying that bag.
Shannon Sharpe
No, no, no, no, no. Okay. Like you said, baby. Oh, baby. She got Four. Yeah. She got my foe.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
That's too much.
Shannon Sharpe
My back. I can't. I can't. I can't carry my. I can't carry about £10 now that.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You know what I think?
Draya Michele
No, you say you be in that gym, you could carry more than that. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Probably about 135.
Draya Michele
Okay.
Orderly Meds Advertiser
Okay.
Shannon Sharpe
140 on a good day, maybe only 10. 135. 140. No leg day. That'll be my leg day.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No.
Draya Michele
Okay.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No leg day. No. I like cardi for that. I'm a cardi, Stan. I love cardi dancing.
Shannon Sharpe
I like cardi, too.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I think that that's good for her because again, I think that all of us women, whether you have a regular job or super successful, we all deserve happiness.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So whatever it looks. If that's being private, go ahead.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. That's what I believe. I agree. Too private.
Draya Michele
Keep it to yourself until it's something worth publicizing.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Cause you know how people are. People, everybody. That clap ain't applauding you. And that's what people need to understand, man. People was waiting for. They were. Do you know how many people was waiting on this to happen?
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
And what did it do? I told you. I told you.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's so crazy.
Shannon Sharpe
She thought she was leaving one and got with a worse one.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But it's like at the same way,
Shannon Sharpe
I'm like, well, damn, y' all thought. What did she do to y'? All?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
I don't understand why people care so much about people business. I say this all the time. People who be so worried about what other people are doing to where it's like a think piece and a piece all the time.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
Worry about your life and what you got going on, what this person is doing. Even if she did leave this person and quote, unquote, get with a worse one. Why do you care so much? How is it affecting you and your life and what you got going on? People are miserable and I think misery, love company a lot of the time.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
And that's where all of this be coming from, all of the commentary. Because even if he was a better man than who she had left, they was still gonna find something wrong and find something to nitpick about the relationship just because they don't wanna see her happy.
Ray Porter
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. And people feel like anything that you post on social media, it gives them an opportunity to have a.
Draya Michele
Absolutely. I mean. And they kinda do.
Shannon Sharpe
It does. That's why you keep it off. Yeah, that's why you keep it off and let Them, because they're gonna. Look, they're gonna say what they wanna say. They're gonna make up what they wanna say anyway.
Draya Michele
They are.
Shannon Sharpe
Cause if they don't know, they're gonna make up lies.
Orderly Meds Advertiser
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
So, hey, you know the truth and just live with that. Yeah.
Draya Michele
And even once they know the truth, they still gonna make a lie because
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
the lies are more entertaining.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, it is. Did you see the Knicks? The Knicks had a no sex rule. The owner, Jim Dolan, the Knicks, when they got to the playoffs, 10 weeks, they were not supposed to have sex.
Draya Michele
Oh, well, how would he know?
Shannon Sharpe
He was hoping they would take him at their word. But it seems like Katt and his fiance, like, they didn't necessarily adhere to that.
Draya Michele
Yeah, my husband played for the Knicks. Sorry.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Maybe that's why the Hogs keep losing. They cut some.
Shannon Sharpe
But I think the thing. Look, you hear, like fighters, they go away.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
So it would be easier to go away because there are no women there.
Draya Michele
Right.
Shannon Sharpe
I'm home every night. My girl, my wife taking a shower. She get up the shower with water glistening off her body. What I'm supposed to do?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Not glistening. You do be glistening when you. I mean, whatever. It worked, though.
Shannon Sharpe
Boy, if you only think Kat and his fiance were the only one that did that.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They was that. And Jordan is beautiful too.
Tony Ayo
Yeah, that.
Shannon Sharpe
What, Cassie, I gotta get this in. You know, one time ain't gonna hurt nothing. What do you think? The longest. How long could you go? How long, Lex, could you go without sex? You know, I'm gonna give you $1,000 a day.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I'm never fucking again. I'm greedy now. I'm greedy. Before I'm horny, I went. Look, I went a long 15 years without sex.
Shannon Sharpe
Fifteen? Oh, yeah. From the time you was born until you was 15.
Draya Michele
Exactly.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It was a long 15. It was a long 15.
Shannon Sharpe
It actually wasn't no 15 to 30 on those 25 to 40. It wasn't none of that today.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It was a long 15.
Draya Michele
No, it was a long 15.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, my goodness. But you know what? As I've gotten older, I think I be busy a lot, so it's not like something that's on my mind all the time, but, you know, I just
Shannon Sharpe
get them rocks off sometimes. Exactly.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Touring is hard. I'm stressed. I need a little stress reliever.

Cal Penn
Hey everyone, it's Cal Penn. I'm the host of Irsay, The Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook project Hail Mary Massive sci fi adventure about survival and science and what happens when you wake up alone, very far from Earth.
Ray Porter
I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections. And it's like, okay, yo yo yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no. At this point it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story. If I don't go through it but there's places in this book that that deeply, emotionally affected me. And I left it on the mic. That's great because it served the story. People will say like, oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too.

What's the biggest what's the biggest turn offs from the opposite sex? What? What turns you off about a man?
Draya Michele
I don't like bragging men.
Shannon Sharpe
You don't like bragging men?
Draya Michele
No. That's a big turn off for me. Don't come to me telling me what you got how much money you make, what you got going on. Like, especially how fine you are. Especially to the. To the point that, like, the whole conversation is centered around you and what you got going on.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Draya Michele
I don't like.
Shannon Sharpe
You ain't gonna ask me nothing about me.
Draya Michele
Right. Especially on a first date.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, okay, Okay, I see what you're saying.
Draya Michele
Like, come on. Why are we talking about how much? I remember I went on a D somebody a long time ago and first date, I knew how much money he made.
Shannon Sharpe
Damn.
Draya Michele
I knew what type of cars he had. I knew he had like five cars. He was showing me pictures of his house.
Tony Ayo
Really?
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
He tried to get you up in there?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
And I mean, that's.
Shannon Sharpe
I would have been there.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I would have been in there. Shannon, I would have moved.
Shannon Sharpe
She ain't gonna get but $1,000. Thousand dollars a day. She got $1,000. That's it.
Draya Michele
Is that she getting, Shannon.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She. Now I might have to get a purse.
Draya Michele
Might get 500 half today, but, yeah, I don't like that. I don't like braggy men, cuz I feel like. And that's with anybody, though, to be honest.
Shannon Sharpe
Men.
Draya Michele
Even with women with friendships, like anybody who brags all the time, it's annoying because if you have it, it shows.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
You don't have to go around saying it all the time.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah. I think for me, it's like, I don't like men that are like, friendly to the point. Like, I like a person that can work the room and talk to everybody. But like, if me and you had a conversation about somebody, we necessarily don't like this person or we don't fool with them, and then we out in public, you're like, oh, what's up, bro? Or you hug. I don't like that.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, you don't like that?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I think you need to stand 10 toes down if you don't like this person. Don't like them all the time. Like, when you see them, all of a sudden, it's like, it'll be a person that we know doesn't talk shit
Draya Michele
about you or talk shit about me
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
and you not having my bag or having your own bag. It gives me the biggest.
Shannon Sharpe
You have to know how they're supposed to handle that.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Just be like, what's up, bro? And keep it pushing. But all that. Hey, man, that my dog, man. Hey, bro, tell him how we, uh. Nah, that's too much. I mean, I really. With her, all that. I don't like that. I feel like if you have you And a person like y' all don't really deal with each other. Stay ten toes on it.
Shannon Sharpe
Could you date someone that. That isn't your type? So like, like, let me say, I hate when people say I ain't got no type.
Draya Michele
I don't though. That's.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She really don't. Yeah, damn.
Draya Michele
I really don't. I like who I like.
Shannon Sharpe
He could be short. He could be tall. He could be.
Draya Michele
I don't want him to be too short, though. You at least need to be taller.
Shannon Sharpe
So you do got a tight.
Draya Michele
So you gotta at least be taller than me.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And then you don't got to be that tall.
Shannon Sharpe
How tall are you?
Draya Michele
I'm five' two.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay, well, damn.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So I at least be five' five.
Draya Michele
No, he can't be five five.
Shannon Sharpe
You want him six' seven.
Draya Michele
He at least needs to be five' eight.
Shannon Sharpe
He could be five' eight.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
That's a little bitty little thing.
Draya Michele
Yeah, he could be five' eight.
Shannon Sharpe
Or your kid could be 12 years old this tall.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
That's why all the niggas ain't no tall niggas no more.
Draya Michele
But you know what though? That's not necessarily true, cuz if he have a tall dad or something, he might. The, the baby might end up being tall.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
That's true though. Everybody short. Everybody short now, cuz these tall ass love little bitty. Everybody little. Yeah, everybody.
Draya Michele
L know they love little women.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, cuz, five eight, they, they, you know, they fun size.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, but five eight is not tall for a man.
Shannon Sharpe
You know, you like, he like, you know.
Draya Michele
That's why I said, do you have a height for everybody?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
He said, once upon a time.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, hey, I'm getting to the age now, is what I can. You can't be choosing. You start getting late 50s and 60s.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Uh huh.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
But as a man, I feel like you always have options. Cause men, you know, they say y' all get more seasoned as y' all get older. It's only with women as we get older.
Shannon Sharpe
They say if you have money, you have options.
Draya Michele
So that's you.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, you have some options now. Let me tell you, the poor crew, the girls are gonna watch this episode. Like, even if they've never seen the episode, they coming. And I'm telling you, your DM's gonna be lit up. You gonna have some good contenders in there too. We got to find you something, Shannon. Like, there is no reason for you to be single. Why y' all gotta get me with somebody? Because I feel like you deserve that. You have had an amazing Career hall of fame. All these amazing things and you just told us you don't even take a vacation.
Shannon Sharpe
I don't take a vacation.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Like you need to be with a beautiful.
Shannon Sharpe
But I am very proud of you.
Draya Michele
So you need a. Oh, somebody.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No. Maybe he got some self care. No, you ain't.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
Cat.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
He got it.
Draya Michele
Oh, he got him one.
Shannon Sharpe
Got him, baby.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Come on now.
Draya Michele
I know that's right. I love a private relationship.
Shannon Sharpe
What are bad first date ideas?
Draya Michele
Bad. A picnic.
Shannon Sharpe
A picnic. Damn. I thought. I thought women like picnics.
Draya Michele
A picnic. A coffee date.
Shannon Sharpe
Damn. You don't like coffee club?
Draya Michele
I don't want to go to the club on the first day. Okay, I do like coffee, but, like, I don't know. To me, a good first date is dinner. It's nice. It's an intimate experience. We're getting to know each other, especially in like, a dimly lit restaurant.
Shannon Sharpe
Do it got to be mastros. Do it got to be del. Frisco State 48.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I want to dress up. Yes. So I need to dress up. But it has to be somewhere we can really have a good conversation. Yeah, there's a lot of nice restaurants that are, like, family owned, that are not necessarily extremely extreme.
Shannon Sharpe
What about Houston's?
Draya Michele
Houston's is a nice first date. Now you can't take me to Hal's in Atlanta. Have you ever been there?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Now houzz is turned up.
Draya Michele
It's too damn loud.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
That man be on the piano.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, Hal's good.
Cal Penn
No.
Draya Michele
He might as well take me to Opium or New York City.
Shannon Sharpe
Normally I'm a chops guy.
Ray Porter
Chops.
Draya Michele
I like chops, too.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I think that taking somebody on a nice first date. Cause I wanna see what you got on. Don't you wanna see what I got on?
Shannon Sharpe
I already peeped it. That's why we going on a date.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Well, we gotta. Let me see what else you got.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, that's why I took Tom Brady in my fantasy draft. I already know what he can do. I ain't picking blind.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I think that dating in the beginning stage, this is the honeymoon phase.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, yeah. Yeah. So you impressing?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes. Let's. I'm putting my best foot forward.
Shannon Sharpe
You put your best foot forward.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Let's have a good time. Let's dress up. Let's do this. Because y' all know how niggas get. Once y' all get the coochie, we finna be at Chili's. That's how y' all do.
Draya Michele
Or be in the house watching Netflix.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Or be in the house watching Netflix. You know what I'm saying? So I think in the beginning stages. Yes. Take them to the nice. Nice dinners and do that. And I think even when you do get in a relationship, like, I have a rule, like, we gotta go on at least three dates a month. Nice dates. A month? A month, yes.
Shannon Sharpe
What about one?
Draya Michele
No, I think you should go on a date at least once a week.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And I need at least. At least two weekends. Like, we're taking a trip, and sometimes that's a road trip somewhere, but we gotta go somewhere.
Shannon Sharpe
No, I can't. My knee. My knee won't be.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No, you can even. A staycation. You can do a staycation?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. At the house, right?
Draya Michele
You can do a stage.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, you drive a hotel?
Draya Michele
I'm at the hotel in the.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
There's a Ritz. There's a Ritz here. Take it to the Ritz. We can go get a massage. There's a Four Seasons. You got to do a staycation. If y' all can't get away from work.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, I can't get. I mean, May I taped 27 episodes of Nightcap and another five episodes of Club Shay.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Shit.
Shannon Sharpe
So that's 32 tapings in 31 days. That's a lot. So you tell me the time that I had to get.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Okay, so we gotta make up them days.
Tony Ayo
Roll over.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You gonna have. You got four days in June. You got to make it up.
Shannon Sharpe
We work 14 days straight.
Draya Michele
You could at least do one weekend.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I work a lot too.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay. So we're on tour, so you ain't gonna be able to get out.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But I make my day.
Draya Michele
But I feel like you make time for what you wanna make time.
Shannon Sharpe
Everybody say that.
Draya Michele
It's the truth. You do. You prioritize what you wanna prioritize if it's important to you.
Shannon Sharpe
When y' all was building this, y' all was still going out on dates like that.
Draya Michele
Yeah, I never stopped going on dates.
Shannon Sharpe
Damn.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Remake time.
Shannon Sharpe
See, the thing is, I can compartmentalize. Like when I'm actually playing, if I got stuff going on, me and my girl got something going on. I got issues with my family. I can compartmentalize that. I haven't been able to compartmentalize working and relationship. Yeah, that's the hard thing for me.
Draya Michele
Me, I just think it's because it's not a priority to you right now. If it was more of a priority to you, I feel like you could find a balance.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You just ain't found that woman either. And you have sacrificing it. Cuz you need Somebody that's going to like you need somebody strict like you that can mold into everything and it just works. You got to find that puzzle piece. Cuz I think like you're past that point of oh well, I'm going to change this about me. I'm going to. But you are. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. You are in your. So you need somebody that's the same way and that fits in that puzzle for you if you haven't already. That's why he going on vacation.
Draya Michele
Ah, I pitched it.
Tony Ayo
Uh huh.
Shannon Sharpe
Help me understand. Cause I saw Jalen Brunson say this. Why is it more accepted for black women to date outside of their race as opposed to black men?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's not.
Draya Michele
I don't think it's accepted either way.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Do you see how they do Serena Williams still?
Shannon Sharpe
They don't do Serena Williams like they do Jalen Brunson and like they do some of them other guys.
Draya Michele
I don't know. I disagree. And you know, they be having this
Shannon Sharpe
saying Halle Berry was what they did get.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, they told her up.
Draya Michele
I mean, yeah, they.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They told Halle up.
Shannon Sharpe
Nah, they said what you Eric Benay. See, that's why she went to the white. That's why she was cross there. Cause look what he did.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But was they wrong?
Draya Michele
That is what makes them switch sides though.
Shannon Sharpe
That was where everybody get to switch sides except us.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No, y' all be switching. Y' all be over there.
Draya Michele
I'm gonna do it anyway.
Shannon Sharpe
No way y'.
Orderly Meds Advertiser
All.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Nothing made y' all switch sides. Y' all just be gone.
Draya Michele
Yeah, I don't know. But you know, I think black women get a bad rep for that too. Because you know, they be saying like, the harder the wig, the stiffer the wig, the more chance you got of getting a white man. They say they love them stiff wigs.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They do.
Draya Michele
Honestly, women that white men date have a certain look.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
If a white man hit on me, I know I need my hair done.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Immediately I gotta go to the beauty salon. I know I don't up. I don't wore these. My wig too long. It's crusty. I gotta go. When white men, they be like, ooh, Bonquisha.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, they wanna pull it, huh?
Cal Penn
Yeah, yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They be like, what is going on?
Draya Michele
Maybe they like the stiffness out of different from what they used to.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, but I just. I love black men. I am. There's just nothing like a black man. For me personally, I just could not see myself.
Cal Penn
No.
Shannon Sharpe
You never been intimate with a white man.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I went to all white school growing up. I told you that.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, I know, but I'm saying, all
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
my first relationships, my first love, it was a white.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, my goodness.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I know. And I'm a woke queen. But I went black and I never went back. Come on, now. I went brown and I got down.
Shannon Sharpe
You did?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah. So. But again, that experience, the experiences that I've had with black men is just like. It's too good.
Shannon Sharpe
Kepi Dre, you like?
Draya Michele
No, I love black men. That's all I've ever dated. Like, I've never dated outside of my race.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Draya Michele
I went on a date one time with a white man, and it was horrible. And then I was like, I'm never gonna do it again.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She said he smelled like Newports.
Draya Michele
He did smell like Newports. But that wasn't why I wasn't interested in dating outside of my race again. It was because he left me in another city. Cause he got mad. Cause I ain't wanna give him none.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, they do that too.
Draya Michele
That's the point I'm making. If this what y' all be doing, too, I'll stick with niggas.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I'm telling you. That's what people don't realize. You're not all of a sudden gonna go get, like, an Asian man, an Indian man, a white man, and all of a sudden, you're introduced to the sweet side of life. A man is a man, baby.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ray Porter
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So if I'm gonna deal with a man, unfortunately, I am straight. I don't like women.
Shannon Sharpe
If I'm gonna deal with man, I'm gonna deal with a black man.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Hell, yes.
Draya Michele
But as I get older, I don't know, I be opposed to dipping my foot. I mean, I be cool with dipping my foot back in the pond. Maybe.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Uh.
Draya Michele
Oh, we'll see.
Shannon Sharpe
You gonna dip your foot back in the pond?
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She gone.
Draya Michele
Love has no color.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh. Not love has no color.
Cal Penn
Oh.
Shannon Sharpe
You need to leave, Lex. You hear what you said?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She need to go.
Shannon Sharpe
That's what she say. She said love had no color.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes, it do. And it's black.
Draya Michele
I feel like. Let people be with who they wanna be.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
Now, my experience for the past 35 years has been with black men in relationships. Like I said, I went on that one date this time, and it didn't work out. But I'm not opposed to. Because I don't know. This is gonna be my. My last relationship. My last Negro relationship.
Shannon Sharpe
This is gonna be the last one.
Draya Michele
The last one.
Shannon Sharpe
And then you.
Draya Michele
I don't know if I got it in me.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No more.
Draya Michele
I might be open to expanding my horizons. Yep.
Shannon Sharpe
Well, guys, y' all better make sure you get it right. When you guys had the British podcast ish and gigs on and said there are no baddies in Atlanta on your show, you guys got. I mean, how often have you guys received backlash for having certain groups of people or certain types of people on your show? That's not. I mean, why you have this guy? I'm like, bro, you gotta expand. I can't have all black people. I can't have all this group or all that group. The only way to be able to grow, I mean, just. You see Popeyes, they used to just sell fried chicken. Then they sell chicken tenders, and then they got a chicken sandwich because they wanted to broaden out. McDonald's just don't sell burgers.
Draya Michele
Right.
Shannon Sharpe
They sell ice cream, they sell breakfast. I don't know why people just like, we are only supposed to have black people and a specific type a black person on the pod.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
I mean, to be honest, we get a lot of backlash all the time on the Internet. And I don't think we got backlash for having them on. Think it was more so about what they said.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Draya Michele
That offended a lot of black women. And then they took it as we were like laughing and in agreeance with them. But I also think a lot of people took what they said out of context. They never said that they don't like black women. And that's what they tried to turn it into.
Shannon Sharpe
Into. Right. Okay.
Draya Michele
They just said they felt like that it wasn't as many baddies in Atlanta as they thought it would be. And I feel like that's opinion based.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
Why again, why do people care so much about other people's opinions? Maybe they feel like it's not bitches in Atlanta. That's okay.
Shannon Sharpe
And baby, you not a baddie anyway, so why you care?
Draya Michele
And that too. Hey, I'm glad you said it.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And also for me, in my point of view, you can't tell if I'm from Atlanta or not. I look like an Atlanta woman.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
True.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Seriously, walking down the street. So from my thing is like no shade. Like, I'm not caring what these men are attracted to. We here to key laugh. Have a good time now. Should we have maybe gave a little pushback maybe. Cause they took it as they were talking about all black women and this and that. But at the same time, I'm not here to do that. I'm here to just key in her laugh. Have a good Time.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I wasn't offended as a black woman, you know what I'm saying? It was a light hearted banter type of conversation. We laugh, we're like, oh, we from Texas, well, we not from there, blah blah, blah. And again, like I said to me, you can't tell the difference. If I'm walking in Atlanta, nobody's gonna be like, oh, you're not from here. I look like I'm from Atlanta.
Draya Michele
Correct.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So to me it was just, it was kind of silly.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Draya Michele
And I think that's why they more so got mad too, because we laughed and we were like, well, we're not from Atlanta, we from Houston. So they didn't offend me. I mean, it didn't. Cause I'm not from Atlanta.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Right. But I also, I look like an Atlanta woman.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So I'm still not offended.
Shannon Sharpe
And just, and just because they got upset, that don't mean you have to be upset.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, people don't understand tolerance just cause one person believes I can fundamentally disagree with that. But I understand that humans are very complex and everybody has different beliefs. Tolerance has just completely left the building when it comes to podcasting.
Shannon Sharpe
But you do realize, And I think 50 said this, that no matter what you say or what you do, somebody's gonna be opposed to it. Yeah. And even if you had gay pushback, there's gonna be a segment of that. It's not that many baddies out there.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Right.
Draya Michele
I mean, and again, like people can have their opinions. Why do I have to. Just because you feel like person said is wrong, argue them down. A lot of the time I think people don't realize when we have these podcasts and these platforms and we invite people in our space, we're inviting you in our space. And like you said earlier, you can have the opinion that you have. Even if I don't agree with you, I don't have to disrespect you.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Draya Michele
I don't have to go off on you, I don't have to cuss you out. And I think a lot of the time in the comments, that's what they want us to do.
Shannon Sharpe
That is.
Draya Michele
And then when you don't have that same. And then when they tell you that you in the wrong and then you're not like apologetic about it and you double down like, okay, I said what I said then I think sometimes that makes them even more upset.
Shannon Sharpe
If you want that type of podcast, go to 60 Minutes, go to 48 Hours.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They argue.
Shannon Sharpe
They're a platform where you can fact check and do all this other stuff. But we're here to have a good time. I'm trying to get you to learn a little bit more about the guests. Let the guest explain to you their side of the story and how they came to be. That's what this is. This ain't 48 hours and it's beautiful.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Black women everywhere. We all know that. So you think I'm finna sit up here and argue with that about child, please.
Draya Michele
Right.
Shannon Sharpe
Blown out. You ever been blown out?
Draya Michele
In my younger days, yes, of course.
Shannon Sharpe
Is there or should there be an expectation for being flown out?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No.
Draya Michele
When I was younger, I did not feel that way. I feel like if you want to fly me out, cool, we can have a good time. But if I'm not on that, I'm going to let you know before I come. Now, once I get there, you feel like you can convince me, and then you get upset because I'm still doing what I said I was going to do, then that's on you. You can't feel played because I already told you.
Shannon Sharpe
You told you. You ain't getting coming out there, but it ain't going down like you think.
Draya Michele
Right?
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Draya Michele
I do think women should be honest about those things.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay. Okay.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
I don't feel like you should. A man should have the expectation just because he flying you out.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I agree with that. But me personally, if I'm flying out, that mean I like you and we fucking. We getting it in. That was just me, though. Because I feel like when I get flown out, obviously that means it's vacation time.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. And when I get on vacation.
Cal Penn
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So. But honestly, it's been a lot of times where I've been offered to be flown out, and I'm like, no. You know how many times like, men, they. One thing about it, they may not want to buy a bag or pay rent or whatever the case may be, but they will be like, okay, but I want to take you on a trip. I have turned down so many, like, luxurious vacations because, like, I don't like you like that.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Draya Michele
It's mutually beneficial. That's why I think they be okay with doing that versus buying the things.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Exactly. So I. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Cause you ain't finna let me come over there and sleep. I ain't gonna pay no rent.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Right, exactly. So I. When I was getting flown out in my day, it was. Cause I'm going with somebody I like.
Shannon Sharpe
So. So flown out. You staying at his place or you get in a hotel?
Draya Michele
I've done both. Yeah. I've done both. Like, I've made men book me separate hotel rooms.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Draya Michele
And then it's been men that I was actually dating that I stayed in the same room with them.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I've had a situation where I was, like, dating a guy long distance and we were getting to know each other and I didn't want to stay at his house, so, like, he booked me a room.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But yeah, I don't really like to get flown out to your city, though.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, you like to come meet? You like to meet on your turf?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Well, not even that. I don't want you come to my city. Let's go somewhere.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Or, like, even if we go to,
Shannon Sharpe
like, so that way they don't know you. People don't know you all up in you. Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Even before, like, I was known. Like, we can go to, like, a Malibu for the weekend. Like, let's go do something out of the. Like, let's go do something fun.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Like, I don't want to just come to your city. And you got me sitting in the house with your homeboy.
Shannon Sharpe
No, ain't no homeboy, bro.
Draya Michele
Sitting in the house with somebody.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Well, that's what they be doing. The girls be telling the story that
Shannon Sharpe
what they be telling the story.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They do do that.
Shannon Sharpe
I don't know where they do that at.
Draya Michele
They do where they doing that?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They be flying the girls out. You know, I be on TikTok scrolling the stories. Cause I like to see what the young hoes is up to now. He didn't pass the torch down good enough. Yeah, they be getting flown out. Be sitting in the studio. Sitting in the studio. What? Yeah.
Draya Michele
I feel like girls in our age group was definitely doing that.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
So we. We indeed did pass the torch down, yo.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
Damn.
Draya Michele
They was sitting in the studio too. But hanging out with your homeboys, I just more so feel like that's setting a standard. Like, you need to let a man know what you okay with and what you not. And if you not okay with that, why you sitting in the house?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Leave. Yeah, I don't like to fly out to a dude. Like, if we're just meeting, like, say we met out of town. It's a long distance thing. Like, I had a first date. Like. Like, we had mutual friends. He took me to Paris for the first date.
Shannon Sharpe
What?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
We went to Paris? Yeah. And it was a.
Shannon Sharpe
Where you going? The second date.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Heaven. But you know what? No, but the second day we went to Miami and we still had a good time. So. Yeah, I went on the first date to Paris and I had a ball, man.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
What?
Shannon Sharpe
Hold on, hold on. Y' all gotta help me out, man. Cause I been outta the loop, you know? I ain't been out. I ain't been out of town since'96. Okay, 96. That's the last time I've been out of town. I flew somewhere. I went a long distance to meet somebody.
Draya Michele
Okay.
Shannon Sharpe
Prior to that, so I've only gone really out of town, you know, on a vacation twice in my whole life. You go to Paris or you go to the Maldives. You go to Bali, Amalfi coast. Where do you go after that?
Draya Michele
We go back again.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
We still get experiences. But honestly, like, I liked him, so I just wanted to spend time with him. And he loved to travel.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, he loved to travel, huh?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
He loved to travel, so it was cool.
Shannon Sharpe
I'm gonna get y' all a book. This is what the Morphe coast look like.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
A book is crazy. A coffee table book. You out of line.
Draya Michele
So you can have something to inspire.
Shannon Sharpe
Damn. I mean, but. Cause I'm looking at these, and I. Hey, TikTok, not Jordan. Had to get me on my TikTok. I didn't even know I had a TikTok till last year. I'm wearing.
Draya Michele
That's crazy.
Shannon Sharpe
Somebody run the account. But I'm looking. I'm looking at, like, these women. But hold on. Y' all be really going to the Maldives by yourself?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
What you mean, by yourself?
Draya Michele
You mean, like, by ourselves? Like, solo shit?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. Women. I see women be posting that in the Maldives, in Bali, by themselves. Or they got an old dude my age.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I've never been on a solo trip, but there's a lot of women that do do beautiful solo trips.
Tony Ayo
Really?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
You go way over there by yourself or you.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You was scared?
Draya Michele
No, I don't feel like. It's no reason to be scared if you go out the country by yourself. I thought that was if you stay in a safe area, though. I think that's the key. You have to make sure you stay somewhere safe. Like, I've only been on one solo trip by myself, but I went to Columbia, but I stayed in a very safe area.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And, I mean, me and Dre done been on trips together. Like. And it's no men. Like, we went to Europe. We went to Ibiza. Where else did we go?
Draya Michele
We went to Madrid.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
We went to Madrid. Yeah. Like, women do travel together or solo.
Draya Michele
Like, we went to Turkish.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah. We went to Turks and Caicos. We had a ball. It was a grand old time.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Orderly Meds Advertiser
Damn.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So women, whether you're there or not. The trips are getting tripped.
Shannon Sharpe
The trips are being had.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
And sometimes I think too, if women. That doesn't necessarily mean she's solo. Maybe she just don't want to post.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, yeah. That what I'm thinking. That what I'm thinking. I'm thinking, I'm thinking like, you think
Draya Michele
they don't be solo.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
Cal Penn
Okay.
Shannon Sharpe
You figure? Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And it be.
Shannon Sharpe
He probably ball with a gut do. Cause hey. Cause when that be posted, it be football season. So it ain't a football player. And it be basketball season. It ain't basketball. I'm just saying. It ain't baseball season. I'm just saying.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I'll say this the one country I know that if you see a woman post out there, she's definitely with a man is Legos. Cause you got. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
That you.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You gotta be hosted in Legos. And Legos is a ball.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I had a grand old time.
Shannon Sharpe
And what about. And gone. I see a lot of people.
Draya Michele
I was going for Daddy December, but
Shannon Sharpe
Ghana is what's going on in Ghana.
Draya Michele
It's called Daddy December.
Shannon Sharpe
What happened with.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's like a turn up. That's when everybody's on vacation.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So like that's what they call holiday. So everybody's off work and everybody goes over there. So Ghana, you can kind of navigate solo and figure it out. But like Legos, like you have to be hosted when you go there. Now a lot of people I know, they have friends and family out there. So a lot of women, if they are Nigerian, they can go out there. But like, like the American girls, if you a Lego, she would have did good.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She would have won nine times out of 10. Nine times out of 10. But it's a good time. It's a good. It's a great time.
Shannon Sharpe
You know. You know, I got little Legos, you know, Nigerian. I'm a little Nigerian.
Draya Michele
See, and you need to go ancestry to your DNA.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So you gotta go experience that. You need to go in December. See, you ain't rich. You haven't done Legos in December.
Draya Michele
In December to go, you gotta go for like a week.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Weak. We gotta give him a pamphlet on how to rich, right? You need a pamphletta.
Draya Michele
Never gave us no money.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, they don't the game up now.
Shannon Sharpe
Do you like when men approach you guys be sliding your DMs like, hey, let me. Let me holl at you. Hey, will you. When you be here? Let me. Let's get together. You ever dated somebody? That's Leo Dm's.
Draya Michele
Yeah, I have. I definitely have.
Shannon Sharpe
I know, Lex. I know you have. Why?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Why you got to do that?
Shannon Sharpe
Because I already know you. You really. Dre is kind of like the level head. Dre will turn up, too. Now, don't get.
Draya Michele
Hey, I do.
Shannon Sharpe
Don't let her. Hey. Don't let her fool you.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And you know what's crazy, though, Shani? The more it's crazy. Cause, like, the people that be in my dm, it would be like, oh, my God. And then. But these niggas be lame. They be so lame.
Shannon Sharpe
Do they say anything or they just give you the emoji eyes? Do they give you the hard eyes?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I don't be talking about nothing. Like, for me, it's just like, if you DM me, okay, that means you're interested. Let's exchange numbers. Let's start planning a date so we can go to.
Orderly Meds Advertiser
I'm not.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No, young. I ain't. I'm not trying to be funny. I'm not going to screenshot you and send you to no Shade Room like y' all like. It just be too much. You got to jump through. I'm not doing all that, baby. Cause just like, you're who you are, I'm who I am, too. So I think it's just like, if you're going to approach me, you need to.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
So what you doing me today?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes, please. Oh, my God. You have a plan?
Draya Michele
Do you have a date?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, Damn.
Shannon Sharpe
At the rip. He got a couple of date planned out.
Draya Michele
The rip? You got two times to text me, what you doing without no plan before you get blocked.
Shannon Sharpe
Damn, Trey. What type of. What type of time you want?
Draya Michele
Why are you wasting my time? What do you want?
Shannon Sharpe
You don't know?
Draya Michele
Why are you here?
Shannon Sharpe
I'm trying to holler right quick. So what's up? What really going on?
Draya Michele
Yes. But if you ask me, what you doing? And I tell you what I'm doing, okay.
Shannon Sharpe
You do it. Okay.
Draya Michele
And then you text me again.
Shannon Sharpe
I'm in California. When you this way? Or when can I come your way?
Draya Michele
And then I tell you, and then what's next?
Cal Penn
Okay.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Plan it out.
Draya Michele
So exactly.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I'm an in person.
Draya Michele
Then you gonna wait a few days.
Shannon Sharpe
I'm waiting a few days. I got.
Cal Penn
Then you got.
Draya Michele
You gonna text me again, what you doing? And then you gonna be like, well, I'll be in Atlanta in a few weeks.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Draya Michele
And then you'll text me again.
Shannon Sharpe
I said, look, I'm gonna be in Atlanta this time.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Okay.
Shannon Sharpe
Or I'm gonna Be at wherever you. Let's just say, for the sake of rva, I'm gonna be in Houston. X, Y, I'll be in Houston also, we should link up, grab a bike.
Draya Michele
And then when you get to Houston, what you doing?
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Draya Michele
And you should be calling me and being like, hey, I made dinner reservations at Mastro's. I made dinner res.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay, I'm about to pull up. What's up?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Let's do it. I'm about to pull up.
Draya Michele
I'mma be there at 8.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
If a man calls me and says, hey, I made reservations tonight. Hey, can you be dressed? Are you going to be ready to go? Yeah, I'm going be on the way.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, guys. Guys do that.
Tony Ayo
Yes.
Draya Michele
I mean, it's a handful, but there are men that do that. And I think once you've experienced one, then what you doing, niggas? It be like, leave me alone.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, like, I had a.
Shannon Sharpe
So y' all done messed up the game. Yeah, they got guys out here that's buying Range Rover plates, landing dates, reservations, going on trips, and then y' all talking about what you doing today.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, I had a bouquet of roses.
Draya Michele
It was. It was like four.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I don't know how many roses. It was maybe like a hundred long stem roses delivered to my house. And it was just like, be ready at X amount of time. And I'm just like, yes. This is what. This is how you date. This is how you show a woman like, yes, bam.
Shannon Sharpe
For 100 roses.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And at 8pm I was ready.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, I already know. That thing went down at midnight. And you knew baby was baby, baby, baby, baby.
Orderly Meds Advertiser
Look here.
Shannon Sharpe
Be ready at 8, 5:30. I'm here on that thing. Be butt ball.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
5:30. That's my food to dinner.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, I know. Yeah, yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Be butt, booty ball.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, yeah. Hey, I need appetizer before I. Oh,
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
no, no, no, no, no. I am weak.

Hey everyone, it's Cal Penn. I'm the host of Ears, The Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook project, Hail Mary, Massive sci fi adventure about survival and science and what happens when you wake up alone, very far from Earth.
Ray Porter
I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections. And it's like, okay, yo yo, yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no. At this point it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that that deeply, emotionally affected me. And I left it on the mic. That's great because it served the story. People will say like, oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too.

think a woman should be single? You get out of, let's just say for the sake of argument, you get out of relationship. Do you get back on the horse or do you wait? How long do you wait? Weight?
Draya Michele
I think it's about however you feel comfortable. However long it takes you to feel comfortable to get back out there and start dating somebody else. Some women move on really quickly. They get over situations really quick. Then some women, it takes them a little longer because once they hard get broken it take a while to mend it and put it back together. I think that it's no time frame that's the correct answer. I just think you have to know when you ready. But I don't think you should jump back out there until you are because a lot the One of the biggest mistakes that women make is dating again before they're fully healed from their last situation. And like you said earlier, you know, now you bringing that trauma to somebody else who don't deserve it.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I agree. I'm saying like it's not no timeline. But I do believe in don't open one door if the other one's not closed.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Cause I like to dibble dabble and I'm going you spend the block. Oh I'mma spend the Block.
Shannon Sharpe
Come on.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But we gotta be done now. I don't spend the block. Like if we broke up. Cause you did some like horrible, horrible stuff to me or xyz. But like, if it's just like we maybe not seeing eye to eye. Yeah, I might, I might.
Shannon Sharpe
I mean, how far we not seeing eye to eye? Cause we can see better eye to eye close up.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, I need to see. Y' all need to see.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, we real. We close up.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
See? And I'm that type of girl. Like, you left your sock. You need to come giddy. I think I left my hair tie over there. Come on, I need to come get my hair tied. That's my favorite hair tie.
Shannon Sharpe
Shannon, man, you left a sock.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, I'm.
Shannon Sharpe
Man, throw it away. Nah, I ain't throw it away. I ain't throwing nothing away. You going to come get it?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, and I'm coming to get socks. We can send Joe look and he coming to get more than that. I'm answering those oil down. I'm getting my man. Oh, you shined up.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
Uh huh.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
From head to toe. No robe.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
I'mma send my sister to get my stuff, right?
Draya Michele
Same. I'mma send somebody to get it. Oh, you said it's a sock over there. That's okay, girl, you can throw it away. I don't need it.
Shannon Sharpe
I've seen women say they could live on a planet with no men.
Draya Michele
No, we need men. Somebody got a kiss bug.
Shannon Sharpe
Who started that? You see what happened? Women, they keep saying this. I'm independent. Yes, but you want somebody to pay. All you do realize if somebody pays all your bills, paying your car note, paying your this, you're not independent, Right? Do they? Do they?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But the independent women aren't the ones saying that.
Shannon Sharpe
But do they understand what independent women.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes, we definitely understand what. Cause we doing it.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Women are. We are in 20, 26. We're the most educated, we're buying the most real estate. Right now. We really doing it now. I think the people who are saying that are like, you know, if we were on a planet where there was no men, we would be a lot safer. Because we need men to protect us from other men. You know, when I'm in a vicinity full of women, I have a ball. I feel very safe. Safe when men are around. That's when I got to make sure.
Shannon Sharpe
Ain't nobody who going to buy y' all Range Rovers and purses if ain't no man there.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She got a Range Rover.
Shannon Sharpe
He bought it.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No, she on her third one.
Shannon Sharpe
Baby, but you would never got the Range Rover had he not gave you one.
Draya Michele
But I still going to get that range.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She, she, she got Range Rover money. You calm down.
Draya Michele
I do, I do.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
We got the roll money. I, I promise you I can go and get I.
Shannon Sharpe
Why you going to go get?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You go get it bag. I don't want it.
Shannon Sharpe
You don't want no G wagon?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I mean, maybe one day, but I just feel like right now I'm in my like, investment.
Shannon Sharpe
You ain't rich, you ain't rich.
Draya Michele
Like you said, she ain't reaching, right.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But I'm in my investment era. Like, I be taking my money and I be putting in the market, I be putting it in my house. I'm really like looking at other house like I'm just a car is literally the last thing on my mind. So I mean, we got a little off topic, but I just feel like women are, we're doing so much on our own, we're figuring this shit out. I can't understand why they say that, right? But I need me a little peen now. Y' all got to stay my plan unrealistic. I likes to have a dick. I need my man around.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Can men be friends with women? Strictly platonic, nothing involved. Hey, that's my home girl. We cool. Hey, we go out to eat, we laugh and talk or he's waiting for an opportunity.
Draya Michele
I believe so. But I think the woman has to set that boundary. I feel like if the woman don't set a boundary, then probably not because I have had male platonic friends, but I've never had male platonic friends that didn't have a crush on me or didn't try to hit on me prior to us agreeing that we were going to be platonic. So I don't know. Cuz I do think that men still be attracted to you, but if you set that boundary and you let them know I'm not interested in that and it's no room for us to be anything more than friends. They don't have no choice.
Shannon Sharpe
But they w out though. You know, men, hey, men, they wait 10, 15, 20, 30 years.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But I do think it's situational though, because I do think there are men who are friends with women and they're really not attracted to them. I think your case, you know, you've been friends with people, but they were attracted to you. I think men are around women that they're not attracted to when they're really friends with them.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, yeah.
Draya Michele
I've never seen that though. Cuz Even with my friends, every dude that they've ever been platonic friends with has always been somebody who has tried to hit on them or was interested in them.
Shannon Sharpe
Damn.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Damn.
Shannon Sharpe
Does the guy's past matter to you guys? Because you hear that with a lot of guy, a lot of guys say, I want to know who she talked to. I mean, look, women ain't gonna tell you the truth. They say, oh, I ain't. Boy, I ain't been with. Hey, I'm 35 years old. I ain't been with but two people.
Draya Michele
The magic number is three.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. Times five.
Draya Michele
It's three. I've been with three.
Shannon Sharpe
But. But I'm saying. Saying, does that matter to you? Or do and do you need to know? Let's just say, for the sake of argument, you dating this guy. His name is David. Do you want to know if he's been with someone famous in the industry like you are? Maybe they've been an entertainer. Maybe they've been a WNBA player or a soccer player. Do you need to know that? Do you need to know that?
Draya Michele
I think that's a male ego thing. That's more of something that the male ego cares about me as a woman. I don't care who you dated before me. Long as it wasn't one of my friends, one of my family members.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Members.
Draya Michele
As long as you ain't got no STDs.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And it's about how you carry yourself.
Draya Michele
I don't care. Like, as long as you was not no. Out here. Out here, everybody.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Draya Michele
I don't care that you had a past. Of course, you're in your 30s, you're in your 40s. You dated people before me. And that's okay. I expect that.
Shannon Sharpe
But some women say it's okay. You done with him? You would feel some type of way if Lex dated someone from your past? You would feel some type of way if Dre dated someone from your past?
Draya Michele
Absolutely. Because there's too many in the world. Why are you dating somebody that I dated? Why are you dating somebody that I talk to?
Shannon Sharpe
I feel that's.
Draya Michele
As my friend. You're a weirdo.
Shannon Sharpe
But who. But. But I'm saying people do that.
Draya Michele
They do. I've had me.
Shannon Sharpe
What?
Draya Michele
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
You ain't no friend. No. To her no more. Are you?
Draya Michele
Yeah, but it's okay.
Shannon Sharpe
What you going to do? Get her back?
Draya Michele
No, I'm not. Sometimes. But people be doing stuff.
Shannon Sharpe
They be doing too much. That's the. But I feel the same way. Of all these women in the world, you have access to as many women as I have.
Draya Michele
Yeah, man.
Shannon Sharpe
You know, hey, it just. How it just happened.
Draya Michele
It don't just happen. It be orchestrated in person.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes. You have been planning. Somebody been trying to put this plan in motion.
Draya Michele
Cause you can always be like, no. Somebody try to talk to you.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I had it happen to me, and I guess it more so hurt my feelings because. Because she didn't tell me, and I had to find out through another friend. And it was like, you could have just told me.
Shannon Sharpe
Do you think she was afraid it might hurt your feelings? It might be hurt?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No, because it was like, he was so. It was just such a. I mean, me and him really dated, and then, like, they had really started dating. But it just got. It got too weird for no reason, only for him to. Neither one of us are dealing with him now. So what was the point?
Shannon Sharpe
So he could. So. Because if y'. All. If you and her are hanging out, he can't come around. Cause he gonna feel. He gonna feel some type of way. You might feel some type of way. She might feel something.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I mean, it's crazy. Cause I didn't. It was just weird because I would just rather have heard it from her than heard it from somebody else. So it was kind of like. It was pointless. It was really weird.
Draya Michele
I'mma feel the type of way. Cause you ain't got no business with no. Who took me on a date, tried to holler at me, had sex with me.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
None of that.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Damn, Drake.
Draya Michele
Yes. It's strict as fuck.
Shannon Sharpe
So it's one. If you said, you know what? Hey, bro, me and old boy done been intimate. Come on.
American Medical Association Spokesperson
Cool.
Shannon Sharpe
But you say, dude tried to holl at you and have been on a date. That's still off limits.
Draya Michele
Yes. Because I also just feel like. Why? It's so many other people in the world for you to date. Why do you want to even date somebody who likes me, who was interested in me? Because I truly feel like attraction don't die. If somebody was attracted to you and they liked you at one point, they might still like you. And you was first choice, obviously. Especially if your friend was always around. You know what I mean? So I just think it kind of gets weird like that. And to me, as a woman, you should want your own person and like you and want to date you. I don't know. I just think it's strange when friends do those type of things.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. It's hard. I mean, to be in a relationship or. I mean, I've heard of people getting married to Somebody their homeboy girl.
Draya Michele
Now I will say this if it's different. Now I'll say this if it's somebody that I went on a date with and. And nothing came from it. And then he wants to talk to my friend, but he's very intentional and serious about dating her. And then they have a connection and they feel like they might be soulmates. I can understand that. And I'm not going to get in the way of it, cuz. Oh, we just went on a date. But if it's a situation where somebody is trying to talk to you and you know it's not nothing but them just trying to like with you for a little bit or on you and you go and talk to him. Now I'm side eyeing you.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Draya Michele
Cause you're weird.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, the Jackson said.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She keeping it in the family.
Draya Michele
That's a little too far though.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, no, no.
Draya Michele
They cousin siblings coochie though.
Shannon Sharpe
Clearly it gotta be fire.
Draya Michele
Gotta be. She got that snake book.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey. Yeah, I don't know. Nah, I can't do no mess like that.
Tony Ayo
Me either.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, that's crazy.
Draya Michele
Their cousins is somebody that dated one of your friends. Yeah, you would.
Shannon Sharpe
No, no, I've had that.
Draya Michele
No, I'm saying, but would you. Would you date a woman who has dated one of your friends? Friends.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Y' all have before. How close exactly that I know.
Draya Michele
Your best friend.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, hell no.
Draya Michele
Like, even if they done.
Shannon Sharpe
No, no, no, no, no. Even. Even if I knew he was talking. No, absolutely not.
Draya Michele
I'm the same way.
Shannon Sharpe
Absolutely not. No. Hell no.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
We already know you street, but I.
Draya Michele
Cause that's loyalty.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Not best friend.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
No, man, come on, come on. First of all, she done been sitting up there with him, and now all of a sudden we show up to an event, he's there, and now she's showing up with me.
Draya Michele
Right?
Shannon Sharpe
Or she used to show up with me and now she's showing up with him.
Draya Michele
Strange behavior.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
So now I'm looking at you like, bro, you've been eye hustling her for a minute.
Cal Penn
Mm.
Shannon Sharpe
This ain't just happened cause we broke up.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Draya Michele
You been waiting on your mom?
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Draya Michele
Mm.
Shannon Sharpe
You just been waiting for coach to put you in the game.
Draya Michele
Okay, he put me in the game.
Shannon Sharpe
You made the shot. But I'm just saying.
Draya Michele
Yeah. I can't be like that.
Shannon Sharpe
I'm telling you to watch people. That's lamin behavior. Look, all my homeboy married anyway anyone that I really, really rock with like that.
Draya Michele
So you said I ain't got to worry about that.
Shannon Sharpe
Nah, nah, nah, nah. But I don't get lying, but I ain't really never been close to people like that. I mean, that happened to me one time.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Really?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. My homeboy. We was best friends, and I was dating this one chick, and, man, we broke up. We was. We was just, like, dating. It wasn't no serious. Like, we broke up. You know, you in high school. Ain't no breaking up. You just stop seeing each other. There ain't no. I ain't seeing you no more. You just.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Man, that's all right.
Draya Michele
Yeah, it be like that.
Shannon Sharpe
I said, lord have mercy.
Draya Michele
He said, damn, that's cool.
Shannon Sharpe
Now, we. But, you know, look, it wasn't like I said, we best friends. So I was like, hey, it is what it is. That's what you want today. You know, he's my best friend. You know, I mess with her. If y' all want to do that. Take off.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Toxic. Who's more toxic, men or women?
Draya Michele
Equally.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Both.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Draya Michele
In my opinion, because I think women be doing toxic shit, but so do men.
Shannon Sharpe
Y' all be treacherous.
Draya Michele
Not treacherous.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Treacherous is crazy. But I think it's not talked about as much because I think it's an open discussion about what men do and the things that men do. But I feel like, I think, you know, women, we have our ways.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
For sure.
Shannon Sharpe
Y' all sneaky.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And that's the thing, though.
Draya Michele
A lot more sneaky than me.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Women are a lot more player, too.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, y' all be doing some stuff, man, look, if a woman find out you did something, she gonna get that lick back. But her lick gonna hurt. Boy, she gonna hit you way harder than you hit her.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You do something bad to a woman, you look up next week, she's on a vacation. Going. Going shopping with a. And you struggling right now, so she's purposely showing you. This is the type of. I should have been dealing with rather than with you. Oh, it's going down. You finna.
Shannon Sharpe
Why you gonna hurt that man? You know that. Now you know he ain't got it like that.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Cause I shouldn't have been with your ass anyway. And I kept telling your ass that. So you got to hit him when it hurts sometimes.
Shannon Sharpe
And that's toxic, though, you know the man. Pride.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Mm. Mm. Sometimes you have.
Shannon Sharpe
You don't even care.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, no. Once you. But that's the toxicity. That's the old. That's what I'm saying. That's the old you.
Shannon Sharpe
That's the old you. There's been a rebirth in Legs man.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
When I tell you I was in a relationship and the things that that man did to me, I could really just go in and I didn't. I just let go and I let God and I received my blessing from cutting that off, right? So now I've learned when somebody does you wrong or hurts you or does weird shit to you, you just let God deal with it and you just continue to move in Grace.
Draya Michele
I don't know, you should always be worried about how I'm coming and win.
Shannon Sharpe
Damn.
Tony Ayo
Grace.
Draya Michele
Facts. I'mma let God handle it. But it will be 10 years later, 20 years later, keep doing it. If you ever did something messed up to me, keep your eye open.
Shannon Sharpe
No, no, no. God going to handle it in the afterlife. I'm going to deal with it
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
right
Draya Michele
now in this life.
Tony Ayo
Exactly.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, he'll deal with it on the other side. I got you on this side.
Draya Michele
But while we here, I got something to say.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Huh? Bad.
Shannon Sharpe
Are there any breakups you regret? Do you ever look back on a relationship say damn, I let that go too early?
Draya Michele
No, I don't. Cuz I think everything happens for a reason. I think if things don't work out, it didn't work out because it wasn't supposed to. Like maybe y' all weren't aligned in that moment. It was the wrong time and place. And maybe too sometimes it's just not your person just because you love somebody a lot. I think people try to force situations a lot and just because you want to force it and you desperately want it to work, cuz you love them, that is why not mean that that's the person that you're supposed to be. And I think we have to be okay with God's timing on things. I think that when you find a person that's for you, you going to know. Like that's what everybody who has found their soulmate says. Like they, they're like, when you know, you know. And I truly feel that way and I haven't, I don't know that I've had that experience yet. I've had it before and I did feel like it was my person, but then certain things started happening and I was like, I don't know. I don't think this is who God got for me.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, I agree. I just feel like I don't have one that got away. Yeah, I feel like when I leave situations and I'm really, really done the way my life just goes, I'm like, this was a great decision that I let you go. Like I don't have not one person from my past where I'm like, dang, I wish not one.
Shannon Sharpe
Right? Because you sometimes you ask God to show you a side. I just happened to be standing up on the tree and the guy cut the limb off and hit me in the head.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I'm telling you.
Shannon Sharpe
Was that God or was that the man? Just. I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, my God.
Draya Michele
Not that sign.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Send me something else. Please send something else.
Draya Michele
That could be me.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Should you delete? If you have you posted your ex on social media, you start a new relationship. Are you deleting all the photos that
Draya Michele
you had up he would nail to begin with?
Shannon Sharpe
Cause you not posting anything to begin with.
Draya Michele
No. Once I get a ring, I'll post my man. But up until then, no, I believe in a private life.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. See that? Yeah.
Ray Porter
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's crazy because, like, me in my early 20s, like, I didn't have this job. I wasn't doing this. So I used to talk to my man all the time. But it was on Facebook. I was a Facebook girl.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, yo, yo, fake it.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And it was so funny. Cause we talked about this on the episode with Jess. Hilarious. And I was like, oh, my gosh. I went on my Facebook and he's still all over my Facebook.
Shannon Sharpe
You ain't gonna delete him?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I mean, my Facebook is private, though. Like, nobody can get in there.
Shannon Sharpe
Like, nobody except your friend, your friends, and my family.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Cause that was when Facebook was really for close friends. So nobody can see it. But they're definitely still there. But I don't be on my personal page like that. So, yeah, I don't post, though. I'm not posting a man.
Shannon Sharpe
You go through your guy's phone?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Hell no.
Shannon Sharpe
Have you ever gone through a guy's phone?
Draya Michele
Once and I never do that shit again. Cause I lost 20 pounds. You saw when fuck a diet, you wanna lose weight, go through that nigga phone.
Shannon Sharpe
He had something on there.
Draya Michele
Yeah, he had some shit up in there. And that shit stressed me out. Shannon. I was like, I would never do this again.
Shannon Sharpe
He had somebody over the balcony.
Draya Michele
No, it wasn't. It wasn't nothing like that. But it was definitely just like. I don't know. It wasn't no shit. I was expecting to see. I wasn't expecting to see him talking to so many people. I could not believe that. But that was my fault, cuz. I didn't have no business going through his phone.
Shannon Sharpe
Why you went through his phone?
Draya Michele
I was just curious. He handed it to Me. And I was curious. So I said, he didn't hand it to me to go through it. He handed it to me to do something else. But I was curious. I was like.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She said, well, why?
Shannon Sharpe
You found what you. You found what you was looking for?
Draya Michele
Yes. And prior to that, I was always the type of girl that was like, I don't go through phones. I don't go through my man phone.
Shannon Sharpe
I ain't going through no phone. I never.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Bliss.
Draya Michele
Yeah, Ignorance is bliss.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, hey, hey. Go get. Go get. I bring the purse. I am not going in your purse. Yeah, man, you must rather go in the purse and then you find a condom. Then what?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Walter bag is.
Draya Michele
That's good.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Maybe she had it for you.
Draya Michele
She being safe.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Why do men be so upset when they find condoms in a woman's, like, house?
Shannon Sharpe
Cause that man know y' all ain't using them. Oh, and it ain't the kind.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Not freaky Shandy. You don't use those.
Shannon Sharpe
He using Trojan. You got a mag to be your.
Draya Michele
Oh,
Shannon Sharpe
now you throwing up. Now you throwing up.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, my God. Okay, you right, you right, you right.
Shannon Sharpe
Hell to the dollar.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Okay, that's fair. That's fair.
Shannon Sharpe
Do you tell your friends about your relationship? Cause that's a very tricky situation. If you do, how soon do you tell a friend about a new relationship?
Draya Michele
I tell certain friends about my relationship. I don't talk to all my friends equally about my business, if I'm being honest. So it's the ones that I feel like I can trust with the information. And I know not judging me or, like, not happy if something goes wrong. Because I feel like sometimes, even when people be your friends, you know, when they don't really be happy for you, of course y' all can still be cool. And I feel like people love you because sometimes it's not about you. It'd be more so about them, you know? So I think you just have to have that discernment when it comes to talking to your friends about your relationship.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, I agree. I feel like you should be careful what you share with your friends, especially if you're not finna leave that man.
Draya Michele
That too.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, you're not finna leave and though. So when you stay and your friend who cares about you and loves you, wants more for you, you not gonna wanna hear that.
Shannon Sharpe
Right? So I feel like that mess up your relationship.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, so I feel like a lot of times I'm the same way. I have certain friends, I share certain things with
Shannon Sharpe
have you guys. You've done, I don't know how many episodes? 100, 200 episodes? Have you had somebody on your pod and you've been starstruck?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, yes. Starstruck.
Draya Michele
I always say, like, the closest that I think I've come. Cause I be keeping shit player, though.
Shannon Sharpe
Even if you don't even. They don't even know.
Draya Michele
Even if internally I be fangirling, I be like, okay, let me keep it cute. Let me keep this together. Probably the most starstruck I've been is when we had Sierra on the show. Cause I love me some Sierra. It's just such a surreal thing when you get to interview people, talk to people that you watched growing up.
Shannon Sharpe
Absolutely.
Draya Michele
She's a C on, baby.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes.
Draya Michele
So sometimes it's just like, wow, this is crazy. This is my life. But, yeah, that was probably the number one person I was a little starstruck by.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I was definitely starstruck with Ciara. But I always say this. Cause, like, T Pain college days, I used to be in the club listening to T Pain. So when we collaborated with him. Cause we went on his podcast first and we just really had a ball. So that was like a moment. I was like, this is really my job. And then that was like earlier in
Shannon Sharpe
our podcast, early getting started.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So I was like, damn, okay. We really doing something. We got something special. So it was definitely T Pain for me, for sure.
Shannon Sharpe
When you. Is there anybody that you haven't met that you like to have on the pod?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Beyonce.
Draya Michele
Beyonce.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
We gonna do you right, B. I promise. We can talk about sacred.
Shannon Sharpe
Y' all gonna be fangirling too.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No, we not.
Draya Michele
Nah, we not. We gonna keep it cute.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes, we always keep it cute.
Draya Michele
We know how to keep it cute.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes, we really do.
Shannon Sharpe
Do you guys ever feel the need to change or act? Because I remember when I first went on television, I went to all these therapists and tried to get and tried to enunciate everything. I was trying to be like Ed Bradley. I was trying to be like James Brown. And then I just finally realized, hold on. Charles Barkley country than me. And they love him. So I'm like, nah, I need to be more like Charles Barkley than Ed Bradley and James Brown.
Draya Michele
Right? Right. I don't know. I never felt that way. Like, I feel like my accent and my voice is what makes me unique, and it's what makes me stand out. And it's one of those things that either people really gravitate towards it and they love, hate it. Either way, it don't matter. The check still clear.
Shannon Sharpe
That's all I need to do.
Draya Michele
And we. And I think, too, people have this misconception that just because you're a Southern and you have an accent that you aren't intelligent. The two don't correlate.
Shannon Sharpe
I don't know what. What. Oh, you South. You don't.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah. Yeah, bro.
Draya Michele
Where did you get that from? Yeah, we educated. We got. We degreed up.
Shannon Sharpe
Absolutely.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And I think that's the thing about social media now with, you know, like I said, podcasting, creating content. We are getting away from that cookie cutter stuff. I wanna see people who are really themselves. Like, I like, that's the content that I connect to. So I think for a while, people were trying to be like other people, but it didn't work. I think for longevity and anything you're trying to do, you need to be yourself.
Shannon Sharpe
You gotta be authentic. You gotta be you.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yep.
Shannon Sharpe
Because you can be that more. You can be that better than anybody else can be. Absolutely.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
And I think. And that's what makes you you. Because they're like, damn, she really talks like that. That is really her.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
That's really her.
Shannon Sharpe
When people hear Ocho and I and Joe talk, like, man. Man, they talk just like we be talking at the barbershop or just like we talking around the cookout. That's how they talk. Yeah. No matter how profile someone is, they're still a human being.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Right now, everybody might not talk like that. You're probably not gonna get this kind of conversation with Denzel or somebody like that, but for the most part, yeah, this is who we are.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But I think us being, like, more laid back when we have people on the couch, that makes them more relaxed. Yes. So they get to see us side. Because we're not trying to. To be like. So we just. Hey, what's up?
Draya Michele
Yeah. And even with our audience, a lot of the time, I think that's what makes us more relatable, because I feel like it's so many of our audience members who are from the south who talk like us and sound like us, and it's nice to see people like them in these spaces and places that we're in now without changing ourselves.
Shannon Sharpe
Money. What have you two guys learned about money?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It takes money to make money. Like being a business owner. Oh, my God. Gosh, it's expensive.
Shannon Sharpe
Who you telling?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You know what I'm saying?
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
You gotta pay them invoices.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You have to pay them invoices. But I think I love being a business owner that, like, they know if you work with poor minds, you getting paid. If you work with lexp, you getting paid. And I take pride in that and, like, handling my business and being somebody that's, like, enjoyable to work for as well.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I think everybody that works for me and Dre could say, like, I'm not necessarily a micromanager, but. But just get the job.
Shannon Sharpe
Do your job.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Do your job.
Shannon Sharpe
Yep.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
This will be a pleasant space for you to work in. Just do your job. So that's one thing about, you know, money. When you see people who are multimillionaires, they're spending millions.
Shannon Sharpe
It takes money to make money.
Draya Michele
It takes a lot of money.
Shannon Sharpe
And people don't understand. I mean, podcasting. Oh, no. To do a podcast, right, you gotta have camera, you gotta have a film crew, you have editors, you gotta have producers, and you gotta have graphics. Hey.
Tony Ayo
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
And you got to have a social media team.
Ray Porter
Y.
Shannon Sharpe
It.
Cal Penn
It.
Shannon Sharpe
It talk. Yeah. It costs money.
Draya Michele
It does. It does. And I will also say, too, just as a woman, being okay with being stern.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
And knowing what you want and standing in that and not being afraid to. I don't want to say come off like a. But I remember Beyonce did an interview a really long time ago, and she said, in business, you could be polite, like, but you still have to be stern, and you still have to let people know what you like. But it's crazy, because a lot of the time, I think as a woman, people will take it that way. Like, oh, she's being. Whereas with men, men can say the same thing, and then, oh, he's a boy. He know what he want. He's assertive. Women, they don't take it the same way. So I think I'm becoming okay with stepping into that role of just being okay with being assertive. And if people don't like it, that's fine. But I know how I want things.
Shannon Sharpe
Correct.
Draya Michele
And I'm not gonna stop until it's exactly what I want.
Shannon Sharpe
You're gonna do it my way, or you gonna go do it for somebody else?
Draya Michele
Or you gonna do it on the highway?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. Yeah. Ain't but one way to do things. Cause I'm paying, right?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
You're not doing this for free. If you was doing it for free and you wanted to do it this way. Okay, but if I'm paying you, you gonna do it the way I say.
Draya Michele
Yeah. And it's okay to be particular. Like, it's okay to like things the way you like it.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Draya Michele
Because you, the one with the vision Right?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. I don't micromanage anybody. As long as you do your job, we cool.
Draya Michele
We're the same way. Yeah. We don't believe in that micromanaging.
Shannon Sharpe
Do your job. As long as you do your job in a timely manner. Look, we know we got deadlines. We know we gotta have this done. Do it.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Just meet the deadline, man.
Shannon Sharpe
That's it. If you get everything done, if we gotta have deadline, this ain't gotta be out by Wednesday. And you do it at 12:59, 11:59 Tuesday, tonight. I'm cool.
Draya Michele
Just get it done.
Shannon Sharpe
I ain't going to be. Hey, you not f to be. Have my blood pressure running up and I'm paying you and my blood pressure high.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
As soon as it's like, I'm feeling like, yeah, I'm having to pick up the slack a little bit. You gots to go. Yeah, you got to go.
Draya Michele
And when it come to money, pay them taxes. Put money aside for your taxes. I think that's what I don't talk about enough. Every time you get paid, put at least 10 to 20% aside for your tax on.
Shannon Sharpe
Easy, easy, easy.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Got. You have to.
Shannon Sharpe
If you're in business, it's best to play them quarterly.
Draya Michele
That too.
Shannon Sharpe
You don't want that money coming out once.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, my gosh. When I tell you them first few years, I said, hey, hey. Yeah, Slow down.
Shannon Sharpe
Even though it's the same amount, it's going to add up to that once. It's just something about quarterly. Like, okay, that ain't that bad.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah. That quarterly don't hit as bad bad.
Draya Michele
But that one time, you have to make it all.
Martha (Kohler Ambassador)
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I said, hey, y' all gonna get it when I got it. You need to put me on the page. Y' all got klarna? Yeah, I need klarna.
Shannon Sharpe
I be asking which one of y'.
Draya Michele
All.
Shannon Sharpe
Uncle Sam.
Draya Michele
Right.
Shannon Sharpe
I know you did a camera, you did a producer, you did something to be taking this kind of money out by check.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's crazy. It's crazy.
Draya Michele
It is insane.
Shannon Sharpe
How is it working with your best friend?
Draya Michele
For the most part, I feel like it's cool. Like, it's great working with your best friend. But also I think a lot of the time people fail to realize that although we. It's still real business that's being handled. So sometimes you have to take the friend hat off and you have to be business partners.
Shannon Sharpe
Business partners.
Cal Penn
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Big business going on.
Tony Ayo
Yes.
Draya Michele
And have the hard conversations and stuff like that.
Shannon Sharpe
How do you handle disagreements, though? Because, like, you Said you guys have been friends, and when you became friends, you wasn't in business and there was no money involved. It was just friendship.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
And now there's. All of a sudden, there's friendship and there's money, and you can't let one get in the front of the other or it will ruin both.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I think just how she said, though, like, we have uncomfortable conversations. And also, like, we don't have a lot of ego when it comes to this. We know that, like, we are both here because we bring something very important to the table.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
A lot of times when you see people, like, splitting up. Cause especially in the podcast world, they cannot keep a podcast together. But it's because people start feeling like, oh, I'm the Beyonce of the group.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Everybody start feeling that way. And it's just like, no, that's not it.
Shannon Sharpe
Everybody came to see you old.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Hey, come on now. So I think having uncomfortable conversations, understanding, like, you know, sometimes you do need a little space. Being understanding, giving people grace. Like, sometimes one person can't show up as much as the other. Vice versa, whatever. And that we're human. So I think just giving grace and being understanding. And like I said, just having. That's the main thing, is having uncomfortable conversations. For sure.
Shannon Sharpe
But do you realize, like, I didn't notice it until recently. I mean, I heard, and I just thought they were just talking. But do you realize how many people actually wanna see you guys break up?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Oh, yeah. When I see some bullshit ass podcast break up. How everybody was, like, hootin, hollering about it, like, it happens a lot. And I'm like, oh, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Cause it was like, obviously Ocho. Ocho and I started this thing together, and we just brought Joe on full time. But they would. But people like, man, Unc trying to get at Raell, who Ocho used to date. I'm like. Because she comes on. She had a little segment.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Okay.
Shannon Sharpe
How do y' all deduce that? And when Ocho says something. Oh, you don't wanna give Ocho credit. Ocho name has always been in the title.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Come on now.
Shannon Sharpe
And it really dawned on me about a year ago. I, like, people are really trying to put doubt in his head and my head because they know the success. Yes. Could Ocho do a podcast by himself? Absolutely. Could I do a podcast by myself or with another partner? And Ocho have another partner? Yes. Yeah, but would it be Unc and Ocho or uncle and Ocho and Joe now? No, we understand that, but I didn't realize how many People. And what I started to realize that everybody that applaud, they aren't applauding for you.
Draya Michele
No, they're not.
Shannon Sharpe
And then that's what I had to realize.
Ray Porter
And it took.
Shannon Sharpe
I was like, wow.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And it works. When people start feeding into that. I've seen that they start reading the comments, be like, you know what? I am the. I am the worst. And that's. I do do this. And they start feeling that that's when shit falls.
Shannon Sharpe
Everybody brings something different to the table.
Ray Porter
Yeah.
Draya Michele
I think people have their favorites. You know, with any show, people are going to have their favorites. But I do think it becomes an issue when people are trying to, like, put y' all against each other or. Like you said, everybody has their strengths and weaknesses that they bring to the table. So what is with all of the comparisons?
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes. Cause we. Everybody have different strengths. Different weaknesses.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
I play to my strength. I stay away from his weaknesses. He plays to his strengths. He stays away from his weaknesses. As long as we do that, it's not about. Cause anything that's said, it's Nightcap. It's not Ocho, it's not Unc, it's not Joe. It's Nightcap. So whoever gets the credit, Nightcap gets the credit, right?
Tony Ayo
Exactly.
Shannon Sharpe
When we show up, it's not one of us showing up. All three of us show up. And before Joe came on, it was Ocho and I showing up. But I was like, how do you get. Because Rael comes on that I'm trying to backdoor Ocho. Of all the women in the world, I'm gonna talk to my partner. I'm gonna try to holler at my partner's girl on the sneak.
Draya Michele
It's interesting. I mean, people leave weird comments under our YouTube channel all the time, too,
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
about each other, but I think it's more so.
Shannon Sharpe
But you gotta be strong, though.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
That's why I say people are gonna be weird. But to me, it's more weird when people feed into the comments. So we've always strayed away from that. Cause one thing about it, we gonna be here, united front.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I don't give a damn what anybody got to say. It's never gonna be like Draya. They're right. You should never, never, ever.
Draya Michele
I agree with that. Never. Yeah. We do a good job of, like, not. I'm not going to say not paying attention to it because you're human. Like, you see the comments. I'm not going to act like we don't see this, but when we. We have conversations about it off camera. And then when we on the show, we be like, girl, these people, we be having the same conversations off camera. We be like, man, these people, these people. Girl, did you. We be sitting at each other. Girl, did you see this person? Weird as hell. Cuz people really do want to put you a against your friend. They really do want to compare y'. All. Like they'll try to compare y' all personalities, they'll try to compare your looks. Like just all type of unnecessary stuff. Just watch the content and enjoy.
Shannon Sharpe
That's it.
Draya Michele
And if you don't like it, go watch some other content. It's so crazy.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
40,000 podcasts.
Draya Michele
40,000 for whatever you into. People love to say, oh, we don't talk about serious topics. We don't talk about.
Shannon Sharpe
But they, they got 10,000 podcasts that do.
Draya Michele
They do.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They do.
Draya Michele
So go, go watch those. This is supposed to be fun. It's supposed to be light hearted banter between two friends having a good time. If you want something serious, it's out there.
Shannon Sharpe
And they always like, you ought to have this person on your podcast. I said, well, when you. Who podcast, you seen Oprah on, you seen Jay Z on.
Draya Michele
Exactly.
Shannon Sharpe
All these people that you telling me I should have, they ain't on nobody else podcast, right?
Draya Michele
Or you reached out to them, tell
Shannon Sharpe
them, say, you know what, Tell Jay Z he need to come on Club Chase. Tell Oak she need to come on Club Shay. Shay. Graciously, I'll graciously accept.
Draya Michele
Cause they think it's that easy.
Shannon Sharpe
People don't realize it's very hard to do these. Cause you're doing 52. I mean, we do one every week. So that's 52. We've been going to this thing now, what CJ since 2020. So six years. So that's almost 300 interviews.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And I commend you for that. Cause I hate when people do seasons on podcasts. I hate seasons.
Draya Michele
You gotta drop every.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You gotta drop every week. And we've been doing every week since 2018. We did a little.
Shannon Sharpe
We did a little before. You did before?
Draya Michele
Yeah, we almost at. I think we're almost at 400 episodes.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So.
Shannon Sharpe
Well, I didn't really want to do a podcast.
Draya Michele
You did it. So how did you start doing it?
Shannon Sharpe
Fox wrote it into my contract. I had to. And when they had the pandemic. Yeah, they had the pandemic. And it says, well, you know, we'd like for you to start the podcast. Cause, you know, everybody was landlocked and everybody had a lot of Time on their hand. And C.J. was at Fox. I brought it. He came with me when I, you know, went on on my own. I like CJ man podcast. I mean, how I'm gonna get people who. What am I gonna do?
Orderly Meds Advertiser
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
He's like, just go on your phone, the most famous people that you got,
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
and look at it. That's crazy.
Shannon Sharpe
So I think that gave me the look because we started. We came out, we had Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube and Money Mayweather and Rick Ross. And, you know, we had heavyweights coming out the gate.
Draya Michele
Out the gate.
Shannon Sharpe
They like, well, damn. Yeah, nobody really had it like that. And then, you know, we. We just grew organically from 500 followers to now what we have now. It's just unbelievable. I never thought Club Shay Shay would be this successful.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's crazy, really. No, we manifested this too, because when you came to Atlanta and you did Carlo's episode, you filmed in our room.
Draya Michele
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, did I?
Draya Michele
That was our room that you filmed in our studio.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
No, Shay, we got the nicest room in 85.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Ours is decked out.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's real. So it was like, that means we on the way to Club Shay Sha.
Draya Michele
Like, it's coming, it's coming. We can feel it.
Shannon Sharpe
Well, I appreciate you guys. That means a lot. You guys assigned to 85 South Media, Carlos Miller. What has Carlos meant for you guys? Career?
Draya Michele
Oh, Carlos has been amazing. Like, I feel like he's been an instrumental part of our career. Cause he kind of gave us the opportunity, you know what I mean? When we were still filming at my apartment, before we were ever even in the studio, he pulled up to my apartment and recorded with us.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, he was on y' all living.
Tony Ayo
Living room floor.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yes, he was. Literally.
Draya Michele
And then, like a few years later, the show grown. The show grown.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
That's all right.
Draya Michele
The show had grew a little bit more. And then he, you know, offered for us to come on 85 South. So we went on 85 South. And that really, like, catapulted our show to another level, because I think that episode got like a million views in like, two or three days.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
And so that helped us get a lot more viewership. And then they ended up asking, asking us did we want to sign to them, because they were trying to start a management company and we were going to be the first people that they signed. So they signed us. We was kind of like they guinea pigs a little bit. But it ended up working out amazingly. And Carlos and 85 south have just been such a blessing. In our lives with the show.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They really cleaned up our business too. Like we didn't know what we're doing, what we were doing. But they have taught us so much and we were getting so many. No. And Carlos was the one. Yes. And it's crazy. Cause all them nos came back like, hey, when that finishes up, y' all can come over here. We're like, no, we good. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
So you had your chance.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And we're proof that all you need is one. Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
That's it.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I'm cool with all these nos. Cause I know once I get that one.
Draya Michele
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It be a solid.
Shannon Sharpe
Both of you guys have lost a parent and that's something that you guys can relate to. Obviously you've both been bartender, you both your partners. Now you grow. So how did. Have you. Do you guys. Have you guys talked about what it's like losing a parent?
Draya Michele
Yeah, we've talked about it a lot of times. I mean, because it's something that we still deal with. I don't think grief ever stops. If anything, like as time progresses, it just comes more in ways. So you'll think that you're in a good space and then something will happen where it triggers you and it reminds you of that person and it brings you back to those old memories and now you an emotional wreck. But like I will say for me now, when it comes to my dad, when I think about him, when I do cry, it's more happy tears than me being really sad like how I was in the beginning. But I mean, it's difficult, especially doing it while navigating. Being a public figure.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
Being a social media kind of personality. Because I remember the day my dad passed away. I had to still record Poor minds. And still to this day, when people watch the episode, they always say they couldn't tell that I had just lost my dad job then. Thank you, thank you. And I. But I felt like that's what I had to do. Cuz back then we weren't batch recording either. So if we didn't record an episode that week, it wasn't going to.
Shannon Sharpe
We a get no money, we ain't get no money. We got.
Draya Michele
Right. But I mean, it's extremely difficult. And I think the hardest part about it is that when you start to reach this level of success, you wish the person was here to be able to see it. Especially because it's your parent and all of the sacrifices that they made is part of the reason why you are who you are today.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, I agree with that. It was the same for Me, like, when my mom passed, we were about to start our second tour, so it was kind of like, okay, do you still wanna do the tour or not? And I always just like, every decision I make still to this day is like, okay. I try to put myself, like, what would my mom want to see? What would she want? So I think it's so hard to navigate because, you know, people be like, oh, she's here. She sees you. But it's. It's not the same.
Shannon Sharpe
It's not the same. The physical. Yeah, we know she's here in spirit. And to see this. Yes, to see this.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I mean. Cause my mom was there. Like, my mom was the one in the comments. I bet. Mom, stop. They be like, in the comments, oh, who are these two girls? Those are my babies. Like, she was in the comments. Fight for her life. So I know that she would be like, so, so happy to see this. But it's definitely a hard club to be a part of, and you don't understand until you're in it. You know what I mean? So I think one thing that I have found joy in is just like, I find joy in bringing people joy. Because sometimes I don't have a lot of joy. But when I see people be like, man, Lex, you, Andre, made me laugh so hard today. Like, that fills that void of, you know. Because that's how my mom was for me when I was feeling bad, she be like, girl, do you know who you are? Like, my mom. Cause we from a small town, so she used to swear up and down. She was the Michelle Obama of Orange, Texas, parody. So she was like, do you know who you are? Like, she would always remind me of who I was. So I think we're just kind of living in our purpose for our parents.
Shannon Sharpe
What do you think the most important thing that you've learned from your parents?
Draya Michele
To be kind. Because kindness doesn't cost anything. Like, I'm just always so shocked, especially being in the space that we are in now, especially with, like, having a team and having employees. Sometimes I get on the Internet and I see how people treat the people that work for them, who help make their business run the way that it runs, and it shocks me. Or even just, you know, we're in a time where people feel like they have to record everything. How people treat homeless people, how they treat waitresses at restaurants. I think the kindness that spills out of you is a big indication of your character.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, for sure.
Draya Michele
And it's a big indication of. Of the people that raised you as well. And so one of the best things that I think my parents instilled in me is just being a kind person. My mom even told me she came to our studio back in December when we were recording an episode and she was telling me how like so many of our, like so many people that were a part of our staff was just telling her how nice of a person I am. And then she raised me to be so nice. And I think that's one of the best compliments that you can get from people.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
About your character, I agree.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Like, I grew up kind of spoiled and kind of having everything and my mom just instilled in me like she always had this thing like when you put good in the universe, it's gonna come back to you. I don't care what you going through, I don't care if you at your last dime, you don't let people use you or make you feel like less than, less than. And then you want to, oh, I'm gonna show I don't have that revenge spirit in me. I'm not a spiteful person person. I've had some people do the meanest, nastiest things to me and I still don't have that spirit in me to do anything back to you. Because you know what, that's why I say God bless you and I send people on their way. Cuz I continue to put good energy in the world. Do I slip up? Yes. But I'm still a human being. But I continue to put that good energy in the world. And I think my life is a testament of the energy that I've put into the world. So that was something my mom always said to me. She was like, well, if you do good and do right by people, you will receive your blessings in life. And my life is one big blessing for sure.

Cal Penn
Hey everyone, it's Cal Penn. I'm the host of Earsay, the Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the name narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook project Hail Mary, Massive sci fi adventure about survival and science and what happens when you wake up alone, very far from Earth.
Ray Porter
I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections and it's like, okay, yo yo, yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no. At this point it would kind of be betrayed the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that that deeply, emotionally affected me and I left it on the mic. That's great because it served the story. People will say like, oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too.

Shannon Sharpe
Cause your mom was extremely young when she conceived you.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Mm.
Shannon Sharpe
I mean, not even a teenager. Quite.
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Did you like when you have a. Have you had a conversation with your mom about that?
Draya Michele
Um, yeah, we've had conversations about that. But you know, I didn't grow up with her. Well, I did, but I thought she was my cousin.
Shannon Sharpe
So your grandmother probably.
Draya Michele
Well, my. Yeah, my great aunt raised. But I have had conversations with my biological mom and I think honestly still to this day, that's why we don't have a extremely close relationship because it was a difficult situation for her to navigate in childhood and even now in adulthood.
Shannon Sharpe
Cuz she was a child.
Draya Michele
Yes. But it was also like a chain of traumatic events that led to that ended up being the outcome for her of her getting pregnant at such a young age. So I think it's just very traumatic for her and sometimes I think that I'm in a lot of ways a reminder of that. And she hasn't healed or grown and
Shannon Sharpe
she can't verbalize, she can't explain to you and she can't quite put into words of what not only that it did to her, but probably her not being there for you.
Draya Michele
Yeah. And I think in a lot of ways, like being a child, when that happened to her, she felt like a lot of the adults in her life weren't there for Her.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
And they didn't protect her.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
And so she has kind of an estranged relationship with some of the people in our family as well.
Shannon Sharpe
I can see that. Cause I'm of that generation. And I understand, because they look at women that. Excuse me. Young ladies that had. She was a child.
Draya Michele
Yeah, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
When they have kids at that age. Oh, she was fast. She asked for it. She put herself in that situation. So I know what people around there, because I've been in situations that I've seen people have kids at a very young age, and they brought that on themselves. That's a child. No matter what you think, Fancy or this. Or grown. She was grown. That is a child. Yes, A child. Deserve protection.
Draya Michele
Absolutely.
Shannon Sharpe
Not scorn, not ridicule. And how do you. I mean, when she grows up, she grew up with like. Like that and having to place you there. And like you said, a lot of times, that's what they do. Oh, that's your cousin. That's your sister. That's your auntie.
Draya Michele
Yep.
Shannon Sharpe
You. How old were you when you found out that was your mom?
Draya Michele
I was 18, but I already knew, though.
Shannon Sharpe
Really?
Draya Michele
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
How did you know?
Draya Michele
Because, like, we. Because we look alike.
Shannon Sharpe
Really?
Draya Michele
Yeah. And so for me to be adopted from outside of my family, and I happen to look so much like my cousin, who's 12 years older than me, who I grew up around kind of strange a little bit. And then I also, like, I look like her and her sister, so I thought it was really weird. And my mom that raised me, like, growing up, she would tell me little things here and there about my biological mom. So I kind of just started putting two and two together. And so by the time I was 18 and they took me out to dinner and they told me. I wasn't really that shocked. Like, I already knew.
Shannon Sharpe
When. When you finally. When they finally told you, even though you had some inclination that this was your biological. Was she there? Did she cry? Did you cry? What were the emotions that you felt that came pouring out because you finally had the answer. You surmised that this might be my mom, but to know it wholeheartedly, that this is my mom. I knew this all along, but I finally got the answers. I finally got the truth that this is her.
Draya Michele
It was a lot of emotion. So, yeah, she was there. My mom that raised me was there, which is really my great aunt. And then her mom was there. My mom, my biological mom. Her mom was there. My biological grandma. Yeah. So all of us were there. And I remember I was like. I said, I Already knew. So I wasn't super shocked. But I did feel a certain sense of like betrayal.
Shannon Sharpe
That's what I was gonna say. I was gonna say you felt betrayed.
Draya Michele
Yeah, I did. Because I just couldn't believe and by everybody but my mom that raised me because she was always as honest as she could be considering the circumstances. Her and my dad were always really honest with me. But I felt really betrayed by my biological mom and my biological grandma. Cuz I just felt like how could y' all let all this time go by and not want me to know this information? And then I found out that they never wanted me to know. It was really my mom that raised me, that pushed for me to find out the whole about the whole situation situation and everything. So it was definitely really difficult and I cried a lot for a really long time. And then we tried to start having a better relationship. Cause we were never really close to begin with but we tried to start having a good relationship. And then over the years it's just kind of been like this up and down type of relationship where we try, then we don't speak. We try, then we don't speak.
Shannon Sharpe
Did you feel like 18 years is a long time? Because the question is, is this what I always tell people? Are you trying to go back and get what you lost or you trying to start from 18 and move forward? Because you can't go back to 18 and get what you lost. That's never coming back. You got to start at 18 and move forward.
Draya Michele
I think that you should be trying to move forward. But I also think that that has to be on both people to want the same thing. And for me it was something that I wanted and still to this day it's something that I'm open to having with her. But I think she has to get to a point point to where she's okay with having that type of like having a closer relationship with me. And then I have a little sister now, so sometimes I do wish I could be closer to my little sister. But we don't really have a relationship so that's difficult. Cuz my little sister is like eight.
Cal Penn
Wow.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
So yeah, I forgot she is older now. I'll be shocked every time I hear it. It's a lot.
Shannon Sharpe
It is, it is.
Draya Michele
It's difficult. But again, I think it's feelings and emotions that she has to work through that I've learned to not internalize. Going to therapy and stuff myself. It's things that I can't hold against her or internalize or feel like it's about me. Because it's literally not about me. It's about her.
Shannon Sharpe
Have she gone to therapy? Have you recommended therapy? Have you sought like, mama, you need to get to therapy. I'm willing to send you to therapy because I want to have this relationship.
American Medical Association Spokesperson
I.
Shannon Sharpe
Because I understand your great aunt raised you and she did an unbelievable job, but you only get one mom.
Ray Porter
Yeah.
Draya Michele
And she actually really wants me to have a better relationship with my biological mom. I mean, I don't know if she's went to therapy. The last time that I had a conversation with her about it was maybe like five, six years ago about her going to therapy. So I don't know if it's something that she's done as of late, but I mean, yeah, I would be open to going to therapy with her as well, but. But again, it's something that's something she's
Shannon Sharpe
gonna have to want to do though.
Draya Michele
But I do have a. I am blessed enough to have a relationship with my dad. With my biological dad now, though. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Wow.
Draya Michele
Cuz he got out of jail a few years ago and now we have a really good relationship.
Shannon Sharpe
Do they have a relationship?
Draya Michele
No. But she did connect me to him, so that's how. I mean.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, but they. They really never had about. They never had a relationship after the conception of you or after you came?
Draya Michele
No. Cause they were so young. Like she was 12 and I think he's two years older than her. And then he ended up going to prison like two years after I was born. And he was in there my whole life.
Ray Porter
Wow.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah.
Draya Michele
So he just got out of jail like two years.
Shannon Sharpe
He was a child too.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, yeah.
Draya Michele
They were both minors.
Shannon Sharpe
Damn. That's a lot.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's a lot.
Draya Michele
It is, it is. It's a lot. I be like, I could write a Tyler Perry.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
That's why I said, don't let Tyler. Don't me let. Let Tyler see this.
Draya Michele
Now the have and the have nots ain't got shit on my family.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. I mean, I mean to think about. And that just goes to show you because a lot of times people talk about their situation and you don't really know what someone else is going through. You think your situation is bad? Someone else had a situation worse.
Draya Michele
Yeah, for sure. For sure. And I just always say I feel extremely blessed to have ended up in the situation that I ended up with my adopted adoptive parents that raised me. Because sometimes I do think about what my life would have been like if my biological parents did raise me. And I don't know that it would have been the same outcome.
Shannon Sharpe
They were not equipped. They were not equipped. A child can't raise a child.
Draya Michele
Absolutely.
Shannon Sharpe
They said, I mean, you give, you give a child a baby dog, they sit the baby doll down and they go on about this. They ain't think about that baby doll till the next day.
Draya Michele
Remember when they used to be giving us eggs now?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, yeah, yes, yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But I think just to add on to that, I think that's a testament of, you know, your mom and your dad, because like, Dre is the friend, like you feel like she always has it together. Everything is good. So when me and her first became friends, I remember we sat down for one night, we were just drinking, and she gave me the whole spill of her whole family. I was like, what? Wait, who did. Who? It's a lot, you know what I'm saying? It's a lot of movement. And it was just like, wow. I would have never thought, you know, I'm saying like, so you saw, you never know what, how people were raised ways, what they've been through, what they've gone through. But I think it's just a testament to, you know, your mom and how of amazing of a job that she did for real.
Shannon Sharpe
I think the thing is, the biggest thing that you can take from that is you don't let circumstance determine your outcome.
Draya Michele
Yeah, absolutely. And I also think it's always a testament to God and him having an anointing on your life as well. So whatever it's supposed to be is going to happen.
Shannon Sharpe
It'll be hardly. Yes. All right, we're gonna get you out of here on this now. You all, you know, know 35, 37. What did you know that? What, what would you do differently at 35 and 37 had you known in your 20s?
Draya Michele
Oh, I always say I wouldn't have dated some of the people I date cuz they didn't deserve access.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
They.
Shannon Sharpe
They deserve access.
Draya Michele
No, I gave people access to me that didn't ever deserve it in the first place. And that's something that I wish that I known better in my 20s. And. And then another thing, investing. I wish that was something that I knew more about back then. Cuz I be like, damn, I be sitting on a whole bunch more money. If I had started investing back then,
Shannon Sharpe
but with poor minds, would, would it have come to be if you had invested in Bitcoin, if you.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
She would have been rich and I would have been living on her couch. I would have been living good. It wouldn't have been on poor Mind, you're right.
Draya Michele
And that's why I think everything does happen for a reason. So you can't look back on it and regret it.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
You know what? For me, this is so simple and it's so silly, but it's something that I've been actively doing. I wish I would have took more pictures because I don't have a lot of pictures with my mom, because she hated taking pictures.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And now even, like, with my nephews, like, when he was little, Like, I wish I would have taken, like, we have tons and tons of pictures of him, but I just even think of just about life in general.
Draya Michele
Like.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Like, me and Dre have tons of pictures together, but I just wish, like, I need to start documenting my life a lot better.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes. Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And when I think about times of me just even working in the club, like, I was just working, right. And I didn't stop and be like, oh, girl, let's just take a quick picture. Not to post, but just to have.
Shannon Sharpe
It's the Chronicle.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
I think we are living in a time where everybody. We are trying so hard to be private, where we need to put the phones down, but we're putting them down so much to where we're not saving memories for, like, our grandkids to see, you know, people down the line to see. And I'm not talking about poor minds and Club Shay Shay. It's gonna be on YouTube forever.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
But when our people want to see our intimate, private moments scrapbooking, like, we don't do that no more. So I think for me, I really regret just not documenting my life a lot better than I should have. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
What are the goals moving forward?
Draya Michele
We have so many goals. Like, eventually we want to have a production company. We would love to start signing other podcasts as your umbrella. Yes. We would love to get a deal. Like, we talk about that all the time. Like a streaming deal.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Draya Michele
We would love to do that. We would love to get another TV show. Because I feel like, you know, we had travel queens last year, which was our reality, and it was so good. Like, I feel like it really deserved a second season, but it didn't end up happening for, like, a lot of different behind the scenes reasons.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It wasn't us, though.
Draya Michele
It wasn't us.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
For all y' all out there, we brought the heat.
Draya Michele
Yeah. But we would love to have another reality show. For me, personally, I have my cosmetics brand, Muse Beauty.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay.
Draya Michele
It's Muse Beauty collection dot com.
Shannon Sharpe
So you about to be Rihanna Kim Kylie.
Draya Michele
I'm trying. I'm trying to. And so, like, my next goal is to end up being in Ulta Sephora and just grow and scale it to a multimillion dollar company. And same thing with poor minds. Just growing and scaling it to a multimillion dollar company.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah, I'm the same. Like, I feel like poor minds. We have so much that we have to do, and I just feel like we just haven't scratched the surface on all that. And then I have my personal podcast, Love Lexp. I have fun with that. And I'm also getting into some acting. You know, the comedic acting lane. Everybody be asking me to do standup and I don't necessarily know if that's for me right now, but I do have something exciting coming up. I can't announce it yet, but I think when I drop this announcement, everybody's gonna be like, oh my God, this makes sense. And I know it's gonna open the doors to a lot of things. So, like, my goal in the next few years is just to really get my acting bag. Like, I told myself I wanna get an Oscar for a comedic performance. Cause I feel like Oscars always go to the series, the dramas. I want to make people laugh so hard they like, oh, you gots to get that. So my goals outside of poor minds, like, I really want to focus on my acting and, you know, do all that stuff.
Shannon Sharpe
What can people expect from the live show?
Draya Michele
Ooh, it's such a fun experience. Like, I don't even know how to explain it, to be honest. Like, we always say it's kind of like having a girls night in with your homegirls mixed with maybe a variety show a little bit. So, I mean, you can expect some twerking, you can expect some singing, you can expect some jokes, you can expect some serious conversations. We also gonna give advice. We might shed a few tears. I mean, it's really just an experience like none other. I truly don't feel like any other live podcast that's on tour right now is similar to our show. Like, you can't get it anywhere.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's extremely unique. Extremely unique to say the least. I feel this is our third tour and so, you know, checks have cleared, so the production value has gone up. You know, we have more of a staff now.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
It's more organized like we used to be on the way to the show. Be like, what we finna do, what we finna talk about. But like, now it's organized and it's just a really good show.
Shannon Sharpe
We gotta run down.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
We gotta run down.
Draya Michele
We are prepared.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
Yeah. So it's like, we really like the Poor Crew. That's what we call our listeners. They have really shown up for us. So honestly, the way, the way this tour turned out, kind of like a thank you to them. Like, this is just so we can connect with y' all again and have a good time. So, like, like she said, Poor Minds Live is an experience like you've never seen. And then we're going to London. We're taking it overseas. We got a London show.
Shannon Sharpe
Wow.
Andréa Lewis (Lex)
And it's like, already, like, it's gonna sell out. It's gonna sell out. It's not sold out yet, but it's gonna sell out for sure. So, yeah, we're going overseas.
Draya Michele
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe

Guests: Dréa Nicole & Andréa Lewis (Lex P)
In this vibrant and candid episode of Club Shay Shay, Shannon Sharpe sits with Drea Nicole and Lex P (co-hosts of the hit "Poor Minds" podcast) for the second part of their conversation. The trio dives into everything from navigating fame, podcast culture, female friendships, dating in the modern age, the realities of social media, and the entrepreneurial grind. There’s a heavy dose of real talk on love, loyalty, finances, grief, and the journey from humble beginnings to stardom. Laughter and life lessons mix seamlessly as the group debates “bad first dates,” discusses setting boundaries, the pitfalls (and power) of public relationships, and plans for the future.
