I'm doing great, brother Debo. Doing lovely. Great day to be.
Joe
I ain't gonna even lie to you.
Debo Harrison
What's up coach?
Joe
I didn't even think I would see you today. I like because like I didn't see you Tuesday. But hey, it is what it is. You know what I'm saying? We here now. We go do what we go do. Bro, I was going down memory lane, bro. And this hat right here, bro, it's my daddy, okay? It's my daddy's hat. It's from the first super bowl we won, man. And dude, this the ring. And bruh, like you want to know
Debo Harrison
why our word is what's up, man?
Joe
Because the Lakers and, and. And your Cavaliers down O2. And who did it? Detroit. Look at this. Look where I won this at.
Debo Harrison
Detroit.
Clifford Taylor IV
Detroit.
Debo Harrison
I thought. I thought she was getting the most. I thought she was getting the most.
Joe
Oh, yeah, you got wrong. You thought wrong. It's the D for me.
Debo Harrison
Hey. What?
Joe
Hey. That's why I thought you weren't gonna show up. I knew you was like, yo, I can't show up now. I was like, okay. I'm like, damn. They just got bopped again by double digits.
Debo Harrison
Is. He goes, all they all they did. All they all they did. They protect their home court. They protect the home court. They won two at their crib. Now we gotta go protect ours. We gotta go protect our house.
Joe
No, they're about to sweep.
Debo Harrison
Sound crazy. You sound crazy out your mind. Ain't no sweeps. Ain't no brooms. They did what they had to do. They protected home. They protected their home.
Joe
Oh, that's what they did.
Debo Harrison
They did. They did what they had to do. They protect their home court. And guess what we're going to do. We're going to have to go do what we got to do. Cav situation is completely different, though, than the Lakers situation. I will let you know that.
Joe
What's the difference?
Debo Harrison
The difference is the Lakers are outnumbered in so many different ways. Oklahoma City Thunder, Shay Gildrich Alexander hasn't even been being Shay Gilders Alexander. And we still lost.
Joe
Well, Harden been doing over there with the cast.
Debo Harrison
Okay, so to the Cavs at the same time, they protected their home. We gotta close out in the.
Joe
I don't. I don't. I don't want. What has Harden been doing?
Debo Harrison
He's been. He's been. He's been turning it over a little bit too much. Just a little bit. But it's still. They protected their home field. We. When we go home, when we go to our.
Joe
So some turnover is okay, just not too much?
Debo Harrison
Yes, sometimes. Because he has the ball in his hands all the time. If you had a ball in your hands all the time, you're gonna have a turnover or two, four or five. What was they?
Joe
Three. How many. How many threes they shooting? How many did they make? What was that? I don't even know. I don't know. I heard something crazy. Maybe like three of something.
Debo Harrison
We gotta do a better job finishing these games. I'm not lying. I'm understanding. I'm letting you know it's not looking. It's not looking as positive as I thought. But we still got we still got a chance. They still gotta come into Cleveland and get them dubs. So Mitchell Harden, Jared Allen Mobley. You know what I'm saying? My Goodman, everybody, let's go. When they come over there, let's do what we gotta do. The Lakers, okay, It's a. It's a lot. It's a different situation. We just need. I just need them to get one. Just get one. Don't get swept. But OKC is a different animal. I told you.
Joe
Oh, so you. Okay. Long as they get. As long as they get one, it's cool. What? No, it's not sweat.
Debo Harrison
Definitely. They. They can't get sweat. Bron gonna get. Somehow. We're gonna have to get one somehow, some way.
Joe
But I'm talking about Cleveland.
Debo Harrison
We're not gonna get swept. Cleveland's still gonna win it. I still like Cleveland to win it. We're not. We're not out. We're down.02. They got to come to our spot. We're going to win our two games. It's going to be two. Two going back to Detroit.
Joe
Am I hearing something? Maybe I started smoking dope or something. Like, I'm. What did you. Did you just say they go, come back and win it? I'm getting old. That's what it is.
Debo Harrison
It's still Cleveland. Cleveland. We still got our shot. Harden ain't been doing what he got to do exactly. Just with a little bit of turnover
Joe
and he don't do what he got to do in the playoffs. I mean.
Debo Harrison
All right, let's get it. There they are.
Joe
I'm just saying, brother. I'm just saying. Look here, man. Reports say that Aaron Rogers is heading back to Pittsburgh now. It's also a recent report that said ain't nobody seen this man or heard nothing about him being.
Debo Harrison
Oh, you know, they tracking flights, bruh.
Joe
You think Aaron flying regular? He's private, bro. You got 400 million that you don't made, plus all this other stuff. He ain't.
Debo Harrison
They got PJ trackers, too,
Joe
dude.
Debo Harrison
What you think?
Joe
Listen.
Debo Harrison
Yes, me. Listen.
Joe
I'm gonna tell you what you know, Joe. Joe, I go. You know, I go. A little bit of here, a little bit of there.
Debo Harrison
You everywhere. You all over the place. I just.
Joe
I just, you know, like. Like the other day, I'm like, yo, I don't want to talk about this no more.
Debo Harrison
But they keep bringing it up, Debo.
Joe
I'm gonna tell them like this, bro. I said this all the way back. What was it like March, End of March, something like that. I'M like, yo, the Steelers don't understand. Aaron is not going to give them a decision until they give him a number. Because he's not trying to come back and play for the same thing that
Debo Harrison
he gave him the number.
Joe
Hey. And I said, hey, Aaron, when he was on the Pat McAfee show, he said himself, they ain't gave me no offer yet. So it's nothing for me to decide on what I'm gonna do yet to even make a decision. Okay, all right. And most people think like a, without Aaron, I'm one of those people, we don't even get to 500, we damn sure don't make the playoffs. So that 12 million dollar contract, he done outplayed that. Like that's, that's, that's way for that. And he's like, yo, you want me back, I'm gonna need to be compensated. Especially when you got, what is it, mid tier quarterbacks making 20 to 30 million dollars a day. Hey, so what the Steelers do, they say, all right, cool. They made him offer by putting the
Debo Harrison
unrestricted free agency 20 increase.
Joe
So they said, come back, you go get 15 million, you can come back, you know, after training camp starts. And even before training camp starts, you can still go out there and pursue other offers because who wants a 43 year old quarterback right now?
Debo Harrison
Yes, yes. Okay.
Joe
It's not like he's gonna have a whole bunch of offers there. Okay, but if you don't sign before training camp start, hey, we the only option you got. So you can sign with us and get that money that we go give you, or you can sit out, which he can't do, or, or you can replace, retire, because this is more than likely going to be his last year playing football. So it's going to come down to how bad does he really want? So the report of him coming back, I believe is because he's like, yo, I'm not playing for 15 million. So let me go over there and see if we can possibly sit down and work something out. You know what I'm saying? You know, let's sit down, talk about this and see, you know, we know where we go, where can we get what are, what are y' all willing to, to give me and what is Aaron, you know, maybe willing to accept? But that's, we don't know what that is. Okay, so it's another thing though that has me like, maybe he's like, you know what, let me get in here because ain't nobody knocking my door down. Let me jump over here and get in this thing first and go ahead and try and get a deal done before they get a chance to see if will Howard and Drew Aller or
Debo Harrison
both of them look like something start.
Joe
Right. Start tearing it up in camping OTAs. And I believe if that happens, Aaron loses something.
Debo Harrison
Okay?
Joe
And you take what happened with Mike McCarthy, what they said, you know, towards the end with him and Aaron, that reportedly the. The relationship was strained, you know, towards the end of that. Like, yo, he. Maybe he's going to see a. Is it.
Sam J
How.
Joe
How strange was it? What is it? And now you got the talk of Aaron. He's coming back. You know, the Steelers believe that he's coming or that he's going to go and sit down, but that number is not going to be 15 million. So he's going to sit down to try and get a deal done to secure basically his last year of playing football, if that's, you know, what. What he's. He wants to do. And I believe that's what he wants to do. I believe he wants to play this year and, you know, see if he could go ahead in this last year and possibly, you know, catch lightning in a bottle, you know what I'm saying? So maybe it's another part of me that's thinking like, okay, so maybe he's like, hey, I come down there, I get in, and now I can go and be the guy that's actually, you know, helping with these dudes. You know, I believe he wants to, you know, get in there or have the opportunity to get in there and. And, you know, work with Will.
Debo Harrison
Okay?
Joe
And so, you know, and show them the process of, you know, how. How things could go, you know, and be able to say, you know, hey, I got. I got another one under my belt. He already had Will now. Now he could have Drew. Especially when you look at what Kurt Warner said just a few minutes ago. Oh, about Drew Aller. He said, quote, he is the. He said he is the most gifted thrower in this class, in this entire class, and even ahead of Mendoza, Simpson. And he said, I know a lot of people have ranked higher. Have Mendoza and Simpson ranked higher than them, but he said he's naturally. He's a naturally gifted thrower. Okay. Warner also said that his arm talent. He said the. The talent jumps off the screen when you watch this guy throw.

Isaiah Thomas
I think Joker's gonna be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed, he has to guard Julius Randle and then he has to give us everything. He gives us on a night to night basis on offense.
CJ Toledano
And when it's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some in playoff history too.
Joe
Steve Nash would get that thing that man hell get the flying he running up the court licking his fingers while he got the ball. Like you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Oh yeah. Get your ass up and down the court and you gon get the ball.

Why is everyone obsessed with romance right now? Like everyone, your coworker who quote unquote, doesn't read, is reading romance your mom? Book talk? The entire Internet. I'm Sanjana Basker. I'm Tyler McCall, and this is Radio 831, a romance podcast. The books, the tropes, the adaptations, the drama, the discourse, and what all of it says about how we actually love, yearn and obsess. We're going to Wuthering Heights, which, for the record, is not a romance novel. And yet it has haunted the romance genre for 200 years. We're getting into dark romance age gaps, certain Russian hockey players and sentient objects in love, which is a thing. That's the kind of conversation we're having every episode. Listen to the Radio 831 podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Joe
He said it's effective. He's. No, he said it's effortless. Sorry. It's effortless for him to push the ball down the field. One of the questions, always with a big, armed quarterback, was if he can control the big arm and be able to. To consistently to be consistent with his accuracy. Okay, so right now, he said, if he Also said, well, if he could do that, basically that he'd be the still of the draft. And because he would be the best quarterback in this draft, boom. Basically. Now that's good. Warner, I like her. Warner is a Hall of Famer. He's a two time mvp. So like I said, maybe this is the opportunity where Aaron is like, yo, let me check this out and see. Maybe I could get in there and help develop another young quarterback. And now I got two guys talking about, yo, when you know, my rookie year or my, my first two years. Aaron really helped me out, you know, and did this and that. Like I said, I'm a little bit of everywhere.
Debo Harrison
I'm all over the place too. I'm all over the place, Debo. All over the place. The reason why I'm all over the place is because you're telling me if we. You hot, you on fire, you good?
Joe
Okay, go ahead.
Debo Harrison
I'm all over the place, Debo. And the reason why is because if we were to get Aaron Rodgers back, I'm never saying I want Will Howard or Drew Aller to get in there before Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers is one of the best spinners of the quarter of the ball that I've ever seen. I love him as a quarterback and like you said, if he's on our team, he's starting. None of these other dudes, like you said, will or Drew, all of the potential, all that stuff, they have nothing on a rod. So if a rod was in the facility, if a rod comes back in the building, soon as he steps in there, you are the starting quarterback instantly. And when I say other things about Drew, I want to give Drew a shot. It's never if a Rod's on the team. If a rod's on the team, he got the keys, you know what I'm saying? So yeah, that's why I want to state that off by when everybody's saying ojo, Will, you always pushing Will. I'm saying that because a rod is 43, he doesn't. He's not on the squad, he could not sign. We're saying the reports that he's on the plane coming in town, nobody's seen him. You know what I'm saying? So it's still until a rod signs on the damn contract, he is not the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, in my opinion because there's been all these timelines, there's been all these dates. He's supposed to sign now. He's supposed to sign before camp, he's supposed to sign before here. He did not sign. Everybody's expecting, everybody's waiting. So I'm like this. Until A Rod signs, he's not the quarterback of the team, but when he does, he's the starter.
Joe
Facts.
Debo Harrison
So let me get that out. The way we have May 18, Debo is when OTAs start and if we want, if Drew Aller and Will Howard, we're going to start being able to get them reps. Like the first weeks, you know, it's just meetings. The first two weeks, meetings, you can't do nothing. You can't even go on the field. Then the third, the. The next three weeks is nine weeks. The next three weeks on field workouts. You know what I'm saying? With individual, I think we get a
Joe
little extra time because we got a new coach.
Debo Harrison
You do, you get a little more extra time. That's even better. So we probably get like 11 weeks. So all I'm saying is if a Rod is not there, this is where we do get the time to see how good they are. I'm hearing you now. A Rod, if you want to come in there and like we have been building the team to be successful with whoever the quarterback is. So I'm saying if you are in there and now you have more weapons, we have a better offensive line. We did get some people on defense. So you're saying the same thing. I'm like a Rod. If this is going to be your last year, you see what the team has got. Please come, please sign. So now we know what we got. You're getting those reps. These younger dudes can learn. And now we can get the best of the best of what we have for this team. It is going to be what it is. So we might be get to the playoffs, win a game. Even if it's. I don't know if that's Super Bowl. Hopefully it can be. If we have a good enough defense, a good enough running game, a good enough special teams. A rod is the best version of itself. Pittman balls out. You know what I'm saying? Our new running back, Rico Goddard, balls out. Everybody just plays to the best of their ability. Our defense, T.J. highsmith, Ramsey, Porter, all of these names. Ball out. We got a lot of all pros on offense, we got a lot of all pros on defense. Our linemen, you know what I'm saying? Our running game is special. If all this happens and A Rod is there, it's amazing. So I want our team to be able to start building towards something. So a Rod signing, yes. But if he doesn't get here. I'm just looking at it like that's going to be the opportunity where Otas comes. Dudes can really get that time like Will Howard, Drew. We can see what they can do. We can see like getting. Getting what the team's going to look like. So I'm never knocking a rod. I want him to be on the team, but it's like he can do. He's going to do whatever he wants to do. I'm waiting for the timeline. I'm waiting for him to sign because when he signs now I know what we got. When he doesn't, I'm leaning towards our team still going to be good no matter who is under center.
Joe
My. My thing is this. He, in my opinion, is not signing Jack for 15. They're going to have to up. I just do not see it happening.
Debo Harrison
Is. Is. Did you think this is what I'm saying, Debo with that? I don't think other teams, nobody else is not.
Joe
It don't matter about other.
Debo Harrison
I think he's retired. Would you rather retire than take 15 million?
Joe
I think he'd rather retire than take 15.
Debo Harrison
That's. If that's the case, then I rather
Joe
think that why not sign it now and get it out the way. That's what I'm saying. If that's the case.
Debo Harrison
Like, maybe because he doesn't wanna. Just because he doesn't have to. He doesn't. He knows it's on the board. He doesn't want to go to OTAs maybe. You know what I'm saying? Just being okay.
Joe
But the Steelers aren't saying anything like, oh, he ain't gave up for sure. Yeah, I'm coming. I'm gonna be there. I know. Don't worry about nothing. Like, what are you. My thing is this. If he's not signed before we get done.
Debo Harrison
Before you get. That's what I'm saying.
Joe
Yes. And training. And training. And right before like training camp, I don't think they go sign him unless they don't like what they see in Will Howard and. And Aller.
Debo Harrison
But that. But that's what I.
Joe
Why would I slow down their progress to bring you in and halt it when I know, especially if I feel like I. If Mike McCarthy feels like I have the guys that I need here right now and one of these dudes can be the guy that I need. I just need to develop him. Why would I halt his development by stopping it and bringing somebody in? You got to learn by fire. You got to be put into the Fire. You can't sit back there and just watch. You got to be put into the fire.
Debo Harrison
I'm saying the same thing that you're saying, but that's when we had to put our mind up. A Rod. A rod don't give a damn about the Steelers. For real. He's really on his time. So that's why I'm looking at it, what you're saying. If A rod signs, instantly. Get in there, work with your receivers, get it done. We got May 18th. OTAs are starting to come. Otas is going to be here. If you're not going to be there, then we got to, we got to move on. You know what I'm saying? He got into. He says, I'll chill. I'll wait until July 28. If the contract is still there, he signs July 28, right before training camp. He can still. I'm still putting a rod in over those dudes because you got.
Joe
Not if I'm seeing what Kurt Werner was talking about and he can control that big arm and he could place that ball. Why would I stop that? I'd be a damn fool.
Debo Harrison
I, I, I'm, I'm, I feel you. I feel you. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm with you, Debo. I, I didn't. Aaron Rodgers is holding the team hostage in a way there where I'm respecting him at the very beginning. While I'm saying all of those accolades and respecting him as a whole.
Joe
I understand that. We also got a guy in Mike McCarthy as a head coach that's a quarterback. Supposed to be guru of developing quarterbacks.
Debo Harrison
That's what I'm with you. I'm saying that all the A Rod got the team still. If, if they can pull, pull. They, they put up the unrestricted. If he wants more money, Debo, I'm saying there's no way he's going to play for the Steelers. Then for sure they're going to give him that 15 million, and that's what it is. And if you think you're going to go play for somebody else, you're gonna have to go go sign that contract. Go find you.
Joe
You don't, you don't. You don't. You don't. You don't. You don't think he could squeeze another three or five?
Debo Harrison
No, no, no, no, no. It's 15 or you gotta go. Because the same way with like when you're, you're getting old. Patrick Peterson, my good man, they gave him no, he had to go sign forward. They were talking about practice squad. Like, there's a point where as soon as you get out, it's like, no. You went from $10 million a year to practice squad. I went from the same thing. $10 million a year. I couldn't find a deal. There's like, no Joe. How about five? They're like this. No P squad or you're not gonna be able to sign here. Like, your time is done. So I'm feeling like a rod. Love him to death. You're going to be first by the hall of Fame. But there's no. That middle tier where dudes are making $60 million. They don't care. I'm giving you $15 million to come play quarterback. I don't give a damn what everybody else is making. That's not you. You going to get this 15. You know what I'm saying? Come get it. Come take it or not. Because if you don't, we got Will, we got Drew, and we can put that 15 to other talent. We can come help out some more. That's not just $0. That's 15 million. You can go get some really good players that look at 15 like, okay, yes, sign me today. I'll take that 15. I'll take four of that. You got. You can go get three good dudes. You know what I'm saying? At 4 million a piece. But I'm just saying, when you talk about $15 million,
Joe
if Aaron come. We already got one too, man.
Debo Harrison
I feel you. But I'm just saying that 15 million, you got two other quarterbacks. If you think those are the dudes and they end up showing you, like you said, like Kurt Warner, then they might pull a joint.
Joe
Can you pull it?
Debo Harrison
Can't pull it. But I'm just saying, maybe because if they're looking good, Debo, and he still
Joe
comes back and signs, I'm pulling the offer off the table. They looking like that if he ain't signed it. Yeah, you can pull it. I think, dude, I'm.
Debo Harrison
That's. I'm sad.
Joe
Goodness. Yeah. We're gonna check that out and find that out.
Debo Harrison
The door is open.
Joe
I'm just. Dude, I'm just.
Clifford Taylor IV
We need.
Joe
Every time we get on here, we gotta talk.
Debo Harrison
I know. Because it keeps on happening. He's supposed to be catching. I'm like, you know, we don't know how we feel.
Joe
Listen, bro, your boy Darius, like, he had. He had some comments about the Stiller defensive schemes. He said, I ain't gonna lie to you. That Pittsburgh stuff, that ish backwards over there, that Ain't Tyrell Austin's ish. TA ain't TA ain't teach that. T ain't teach none of that ish. In effing Detroit, we played outside leverage every effing play. That's why when you see Jalen Ramsey ever got scored on, he's chasing someone that's running away from outside leverage. Slay added that the Steelers were coached to play outside levers because the defensive line was expected to bat. To bat balls down if passes win inside.
Debo Harrison
I don't.
Joe
If the. This is what these co. He said. This is what these coaches were telling me. You play outside leverage, and if they catch the ball inside, it's on the D line because they're so good at batting the ball down. I'm not banking on that. That's the only thing I did not like about the Steelers, bruh. This can't be real, is it? Huh? I never heard that we counting on the D line to bat the ball down. I ain't never heard.
Carlos King
No, man.
Debo Harrison
I mean, you. No. I talked to Slay and I'm saying when I. What is about the outside leverage? Because we play corner and I'm like, slay, did they tell you to play outside leverage on everything? Like, was it. No alignment splits. He said that was only in the red zone. In the red zone, you had to play outside leverage on everything. So I'm put that out there. You did play splits. The stuff. It was in the red zone. Everything on the red zone, you play outside leverage. So that. That is one thing that he did say with the batting.
Joe
Why would I do that? That's crazy.
Debo Harrison
Batting the ball down. I could see how when you.
Joe
You're saying, Rush, dude, that's not on
Debo Harrison
the D line at all. No, that doesn't make any sense. I'm saying that, yes, that part didn't make any sense. But Rush and coverage does work together. When we're saying that if you got a catch and tackle some things like that. But I completely.
Joe
I'm telling you, you don't have to cover nothing inside. Play outside leverage. And the D line is supposed to bat everything down. That is.
Debo Harrison
That. That is not. That is. That is. That is. That is goofy. That is goofy. And I don't. That's not. He did. He didn't say that. He said that they had to play outside leverage only in.
Joe
On.
Debo Harrison
In the red. I mean, in the red zone.
Joe
I can't. I can't. I can't give you that either. It's too much inside.
Debo Harrison
Just go line.
Joe
I. I Understand? You still. It's still 40. It's still 52 yards on outside, still 52 yards wide. So you telling me I'm playing outside leverage and let everything else go in? That's crazy.
Debo Harrison
Yes. Thank you. When I played outside leverage as a corner two. That means not everything.
Joe
Were you ever taught to just play outside in the red zone? Well, you didn't play under them, did you? You. You play. Who did you. Did you play under.
Debo Harrison
Under ta? Yeah, I did. He was my. He was my cornerback coach, but then the next year, he went to defensive coordinator, so I played with him as my DB coach.
Joe
Where were you taught as a db?
Debo Harrison
I mean, it wasn't always. It was more. It was more alignment. It was leverage. If the receiver was lined up outside of the numbers, it was more you. Your inside. You know what I'm saying?
Joe
Who was your. Oh, you had.
Debo Harrison
And he had GA, too.
Joe
Dude, let's stop playing, bro. Nobody there. No, nobody did a job that was actually titled to him, that was ran by somebody else. Everybody got a title and got paid for it, but very few people did the actual job of the title. We go move on from that, man. The Steelers blocked from the London game. Jaguars are reportedly protecting their matchup against the Steelers because they know it's guaranteed to be a sellout because of how well still a fans travel and gobble up seats in opposing stadiums. Of course they know what we do.
Debo Harrison
We go be there.
Joe
We go take up. We take over stadiums. Joe, we meaning me in this, in the chat, not you. You stay over there with all that Cleveland stuff. You've been talking about the basketball team.
Debo Harrison
You already know what time. You already know what it is. Rocking with the land, but anytime the Steelers are not against the Browns, always.
Joe
Hey, but that ain't the real reason. You know what the real reason is? Y' all don't nobody want to go all the way over there, man, and play no game, bro. You don't know about it.

I think Joker's gonna be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed, he has to guard Julius Randle and then he has to give us everything. He gives us on a night to night basis on offense.
CJ Toledano
And when it's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.

Steve Nash would get that thing, that man, hell get the flying he running up the court licking his fingers while he got the ball. Like you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Oh yeah. Get your ass up and down the court and you gonna get the ball.

Why is everyone obsessed with romance right now? Like, everyone your co worker who quote unquote doesn't read. Is reading romance your mom? Book talk, the entire Internet. I'm Sanjana bhasker. I'm Tyler McCall. And this is Radio 831, a romance podcast. The books, the tropes, the adaptations, the drama, the discourse, and what all of it says about how we actually love, yearn and obsess. We're going to Wuthering Heights, which, for the record, is not a romance novel, and yet it has haunted the romance genre for 200 years.
Debo Harrison
You think the Steelers don't want to go to. To the London game? I went last year. That one was fun, right? With the Island.
Joe
Did you. Did you play over there when you played? Did you play?
Debo Harrison
No, I did not.
Joe
Okay, you did play overseas when you played.
Debo Harrison
Okay, well, I know for the players,
Joe
you know, you get taxed there and in the States, players have to play taxes over there. Like they got the similar taxes that we got over here. Like they got a job tax over there, too, and you end up playing taxes over there in the United States. So you play in the country that you played in. And here I know I played NFL Europe. I did NFL Europe, dude. Like, real talk. I was over there in Dusseldorf, Germany, bro. Like, no Way. So it's like, dude, it's not.
Debo Harrison
It's not because. It's because of the taxes. It's because you're getting taxed.
Joe
The turnaround is crazy, bro. You talking about you flying all the way over there, you, what is it, 8, 10, 12 more hours, depends on where you're going and you gotta turn back around. And then they talking about, what is it now? It ain't even a short week no more. They trying to get it cut to where a short week means if you get four days, it ain't a short or five days, it ain't a short week no more. So they trying to get you on like two, two games where they can hit you on a Monday and, and, and a Thursday, or I'm sorry, a Sunday and a Thursday. And that being. That ain't a short week.
Debo Harrison
Yeah.
Joe
Huh? Stop playing, bruh. When I played over there, bro, and of course we were over there like the whole time. So the longer you're over there, the more you get taxed. That's why all these teams that go, they try and be over there as little time as they can. Because the amount of days that you are over there, you get taxed each day. So cast that go over there and they like, they there for a week or they stay there for two weeks. And because they got to play a back to back, man, they getting cracked over the head over there and here. Dude, I was getting about, real talk about 40 of my check back then, bro. I was making. Yeah, bro, I was making. I was making like 450, 500 a week doing NFL Europe, dude, because they were hitting you so hard with taxes, dude, and that was for like eight or ten weeks, bro. Like, I don't know how the dudes that had families, I don't even know how they were over there for like two months, bro, two and a half months, taking care of their family and all that. Yeah, and everybody got paid the same thing except for the quarterbacks. The quarterbacks might have got like three or five hundred dollars more a week, but that was it. Like you walking like they walking away with maybe 7, 800, everybody else 4, $5,500. Dang.
Debo Harrison
Okay, question though. If you was, when you're doing it for the league and you went over there, are you still getting what. How much are they taxing you for from the NFL checks when we go play over there? Because I didn't go play.
Joe
I did a whole NFL Europe season. So I don't know what they tax them. And it's different in different countries too. However they do it but. And then some of them will give you a tax credit back so you don't get double taxed or however. However that works.
Debo Harrison
I was thinking about mostly for me. I mean I would say is it just the tax purposes or I wouldn't really like when I went out.
Joe
I don't want to fly over there and then have to turn back around.
Debo Harrison
It was for the. I went out there last year as a fan watching the game got to see and I was. If I was going to actually go play, it's a completely different time thinking about being in the season and like everybody else is on vacation. When they come visit you, they ready to have a good. Hey, what you got going? I'm like this. I am locked in right now because I really like. I gotta, I gotta go all 12
Joe
hours now they go straight to practice.
Debo Harrison
No, no, for sure, for sure. When I went it was more fan wise I would think just traveling during season prep, being able to get to the stadium the night before, boom. Sleep. You got your routine. Knocking out a routine during the season is a reason why that would be the biggest thing. Why I'm not tripping on going over there for the. I'll go during my off season when I can go travel and actually go enjoy it. Go see the stuff. When you going out there to go playing a game. If you're going to go see stuff, you're out there for the wrong reasons. We got a game to play. Like everybody should be locked in curfew.
Joe
Thank you.
Debo Harrison
Chilling because end of the day it's only during the season. This is one week you can go see that. Seriously, after we win the super bowl, we don't make it, we lose in the playoffs. You got an off season. You got those good little months like when the season's still going on. You could travel, still get your work in. But your time where you can go really actually enjoy yourself. So it's like a business trip for me like when you go out to that stuff. So my biggest reason why I wouldn't want to go is like I'm not tripping because I got a job to do. But for games and for tickets and for business. Oh yeah, for sure. They want the Steelers. You'll sell anything out traveling crazy out there because they want to see you.
Joe
Bro, you talking. You losing six hours easy.
Debo Harrison
For sure. Player wise, schedule wise, you're really just trying to stay as routine as possible. That you talk about not.
Joe
I'm not doing that, bro. Yeah, I'm Not. I'm not. I'm not trying to do that. Hell, I don't even like going.
Debo Harrison
And they keep the time, keeping the schedule. The same clock don't change.
Joe
When I was with Cincinnati, dude, we went out there early. I'm like, why in the hell are we going out here a whole day and a half, two days early, bro? For what? We gained three hours.
Debo Harrison
We go out that joint last minute, keep the schedule, keep the time what it is. We just changed it. In my mindset, every clock I see should be like, we're still in the east coast, bro. Right?
Joe
And then we get there, bro, and they want to curfew you go try. You go curfew me on a Wednesday and a Thursday, bro. I don't have. What did you talk about? No, don't bring me out here, bro.
Debo Harrison
No, no. I could have stayed.
Joe
Don't bring me out here, man. All you doing is upset Facts, facts. So your boy, what's his name? Defensive lineman Malik Collins, he said, man, he said, listen, I've seen the type of player Deshaun Watson is. He said, I've seen how dynamic he is in the past. He said, I think he has a lot to prove. I think Shador is super talented. I think he also has a lot to prove going forward. I think they. I think they said it was going to be an open competition, so made the best man win. So he was talking about the 2 quarterback. Y'. All two quarterbacks battling it out for the. For the thing. Because you had some. Somebody that wrote a article saying that DeSean had the edge. And he's like, Nah, DeShawn ain't got the edge. It's open competition. They both got what they got. And then you got some cat the Browns. That is some writer that believes Todd Monkin has already made a big mistake by not naming a starter starting quarterback. There doesn't need to be. There doesn't need to be a quarterback competition resulting in a There doesn't need to be a quarterback competition resulting in a young starting skill player position practicing with the quarterback who isn't going to start anyway. He thinks it should be a quarterback there practicing with the guys who go start.
Debo Harrison
Who the.
Joe
Who is this dude?
Debo Harrison
Dude, not listen to him. Listen, bro, listen. You know how that is. Everybody wanting to rush everything, bro.
Joe
I don't even not type this article. Why did y' all even put this in?
Debo Harrison
Who is this? So, long story short, and I'm going to go off. Malik Collins. Malik Collins is making sense. It is going to be a quarterback competition. And I believe that Shador Sanders is probably going to win the competition. When they're saying early on right now he was getting more reps, it is what it is. That's what happens in the competition. They still haven't been to OTAs yet. He's going to have to split the reps. And by the time we get to training camp, Todd Monkin said that he's going to have a starting quarterback that he want, that he's going to name right now. Debo, you know how it is when you don't have a quarterback. Everybody's going to bring up every single situation and then we're going to come on here and talk about it every single day and literally feel like we're being repetitive in what we're talking about because people just, everybody got something to say about the quarterback position. Everybody got something to say. But when I listen to Todd Monken and he's telling me, end of the day, it is going to be a quarterback competition, Deshaun Watson and Shador Sanders, I believe both of them are going to be able to get their chances in OTAs to show how good they really are going. And I think Shador is going to still be able to continue the ball. He did not play unbelievable last year. He has footwork, things he can work on, he has timing things he could work on. He has awareness, things in the pocket that he can work on. So there's so much growth. But I like to think that now when you have a quarterback coach, you have a head coach that are also trying to help you out, they're giving you, you're getting a equal opportunity, you're getting first team reps, you may be splitting them with desean, but back in the day last year, you didn't see the first team, you didn't see anybody. They didn't give you a chance at all. So at least right now, Desean, coming in healthy, making $46 million a year, was a franchise quarterback. I seen him, he just coming off two ACLs and he still didn't perform too well back in the day. But when you're making $46 million, you're going to get the benefit of the doubt, you're going to get an opportunity because that 46 gives you just due. And you've been doing your job, you've been rehabbing, you've been staying out the way. You haven't been making any mess, you haven't been trying to do any noise, you've been trying to play football and do the best you can do so for him. Deshaun, I hope the best and for the reasons I state, the 46 that you stand out the way and now you're healthy, you get an opportunity. Obviously, Shador, you coming off of last year, starting basically half of the season, knowing that you need progression steps, being able to get away in the pocket, not retreating. There's things that you can get better at too. You're off now. You have a line that can block for you. We're going to have a situated running game. Our receivers are getting better. We got. We drafted two. We drafted what we needed, we drafted receivers, we drafted protection. Boom. Now both of you guys are going to be able to see what you can do during OTAs and training camp, see who plays better. And let's get, let's get to it. I still look at Shador as a first round pick quarterback. Other people look at him like a 5th round pick. I look at him like he should have been picked in the first. They didn't like him because of his personality. He rubbed people the wrong way. But statistically on the football field, what he did at Colorado, what Ken Moore did in Miami was not too different from me. So I'm like, give him a chance. Give him a shot out there with real legitimate weapons. I want to see it. And if he's not, I was wrong. I take that on the chin. But I want to see Shador be able to be out there with weapons and a legitimate team and a legitimate coach coming off a whole season and reps. Boom. That's all I ask. So I'm going with Malik, I'm going with it as an open competition. I'm going with desean Watson. You deserve that because what you've done before previously in the NFL, that is what it is. That's what got you that guaranteed contract. That's why you still have one more year here. You're not going to sign. The Browns are going to sign you next year. So it's either going to be you this year. We're going to find out. I think two quarterbacks going to play. If Shador ends up starting, I don't think Shador is going to lose that job. I think he might go the whole way. If Deshaun Watson gets the job and plays amazing, that would be great. But I don't see that happening just because from my previous experiences, just him coming off the injuries and it was speed. He was able to run, he was able to move. It wasn't just his arm talent which made him Deshaun Watson, it was. He was fast, he was explosive, he was dynamic. He can throw am run. He was a dual threat. He started slowing down a little bit and then coming off of two surgeries. Let me see how explosive you really are. You know what I'm saying? Not knocking them, but that once you lose that step. The league is fast. These dudes are not playing. Nobody's getting any slower. Dudes are only getting faster. The league's only getting younger. So we're going to see what happens. I'm here with Malik, like so. Let's go.
Joe
Okay. Yeah, for sure, for sure. This person, this so called beat writer, the so called B writer's comedian. Don't put this stupid ass in the dock no more.
