Guys, you watch the Michigan Wolverines and they were dominant tonight. They win take down another one. Number one seed, 91 to 73. But that 18 points, it really wasn't that close. Michigan took control of this ball game and they never really looked back. Their best player, Yaxel Lindenberg, he only played 14 minutes, but he was excellent in those 14 minutes. A perfect three or three from the three point line. It's going to be very interesting to see how that.
Because it looked like he got a
either a knee bruise or a thigh bruise. But he was on that.
But continuously on that bike trying to keep it loose. And guys, we've all had that thigh bruise. Boy, that thing going to be hell tomorrow morning. But go, go ahead, go. But good thing they didn't need him tonight. They put five guys in double figures and they went going away.
They were sensational. At one point they were 10 or 12.
What?
No, 8 or 10 in the second half from the three point line. They were sensational tonight. They were unbelievable. And they pull away from Arizona. I know it's as 18 points but the game really wasn't that close. They were ahead by one point like 31, 32 points in the ball game.
Wow.
Michigan, the first team in NCAA tournament history to score 90 plus point in five straight games and a single tournament. They've been outstanding. Obviously we're going to talk about the game. They're going to be facing the Yukon Huskies who did an unbelievable job. And they just find ways to scratch and claw and win games.
Joe, watching this ball game. What? How did Michigan make it look so easy?
Joe Johnson
They pressure Uncle Ocho. Yeah, that they caused earlier in the game. Getting off to a great start. Lindenberg. Is that how you say his name? Lindenberg, he. He wasn't a.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
He.
Joe Johnson
He didn't do a. He didn't have to do a whole lot tonight, but he. He played some meaningful minutes, you know what I mean? They believe. They say they the best team ever in Michigan. They showed it tonight because there's no way I thought Arizona would go out like this. Man, the shellacking they put on my Razorbacks, I can't believe that. I'm like, who is this?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Why a y' all play like this the other night? Oh, man, what's going on?
Joe Johnson
But let me tell you something. Michigan got some big boys. Michigan got that seven three boy. Big Mara down there.
Uncle Ocho
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Joe Johnson
He had 26 and nine tonight.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
He was.
Joe Johnson
He was controlling the glass, the paint catching lives. Like, Michigan got a lot.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
They.
Joe Johnson
They got a lot of guys that they can hit you with in ways. They got great guard play. I know the Elliot kid didn't play great tonight. He was 5 for 17. But for the most part, you know, they. Together, they played great defense, Uncle Ocho. They played great defense and they believe in one another, man. So I'm gonna be honest with y', all, man. I think I got Michigan winning this thing.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah. You look at Trey McKinney before you go, Ocho, he was sensational with the three point line. Six and nine from the field, four or six from the three point line. And like I said, it was the second half because seemingly every time Arizona would try to mount something, they would hit them. They'd hit them 3, 2, 3, 2,
and next thing you know, they try to cut it down and the lead
is pushed back above 20. And so give Michigan credit, they found a way. And like you said, Lindenberg, he didn't play tonight. He only played 14 minutes.
Joe Johnson
Right?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
But in those 14 minutes, he kind
of got in foul trouble early.
Yeah. Like, okay, Arizona, this is your opportunity. He's in foul trouble. Their best players in foul trouble. You need to seize this opportunity. They couldn't take advantage of it. And Michigan, you know, was able to stay ahead even with their best player on the bench. And then they just pulled away in the second half. Ocho.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Michigan do a number on Arizona.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, they did. Listen, offense, great defense. Joe, like you said, pressure. Lindenberg getting himself in foul trouble. But it didn't matter. Adimara down in the paint, he owned everything on the office end and. And on. On the. And on the defense end, had the glass. They really dumped. They really dominate the whole goddamn game off the bench. That goddamn McKinney boy. Boy.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Young bull Young Bull was stroking that go.
Joe Johnson
He was.
Uncle Ocho
He would let it go. I'm sorry I'm using the wrong words, but it was a good game. And I just want to. I also want to mention. Matter of fact, you know, I know we haven't put those brackets up right now.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Well, they don't need to.
Joe Johnson
It's over with.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
It's over.
Uncle Ocho
I know. So I just. I just want y' all to be honest with the people and the people that's watching. Who won?
Joe Johnson
There's no winner. No winner.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Ain't no winner.
Joe Johnson
Ain't no winner.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Ain't no winner.
Ojo.
Uncle Ocho
Don't do that.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Don't win.
Uncle Ocho
Don't do that. Don't do that.
Joe Johnson
There is no winner.
Uncle Ocho
I still. I still have a team. I still have a team. In. In. In.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
What? What team you got?
Uncle Ocho
Come on. I know. Ass. No, come on, now. We. We gotta win them.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You had Duke in Arizona. I did. You did.
Uncle Ocho
Okay, well, listen, I'm still. I'm. I still beat both of y'. All. I know that.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Nobody want. The objective was try to win the fave. You know, you talking about you could. So all these people that filled out bragging, you just tried to beat me and Johan.
Uncle Ocho
That's all that matter. That's the only thing that matter.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Okay.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, matter of fact, hold on.
Joe Johnson
What this man got now?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
He done got. He done got him a crowd or something, Joe.
M
And still.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, you got to chill, bro. Look at this.
Uncle Ocho
What we talking about? And still, huh?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, I'm not worried about.
Uncle Ocho
Listen, I'm not worried nobody else bracket.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, you.
Uncle Ocho
I'm not worried about nobody else bracket
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
except y. I beat y', all, too.
Uncle Ocho
That's all that matter. Now, Arizona. Arizona might not have made it right, but my bracket went the.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
What you mean, might not. They didn't. Hey, hey, hey, Calm down.
Uncle Ocho
I don't like your tone. I don't like your tone. Let's take the decibels down a little bit.
Joe Johnson
Hey, I.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, I appreciate y' all playing, but as far as I'm concerned, I mean, the King OO is here, man.
Joe Johnson
Chill, bro. You chill. You don't get no. You don't get no crown for that. OO you didn't win.
Uncle Ocho
I. I beat y', all, too. That's all that matter.
Joe Johnson
But you gotta win, though.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
No, I be.
Uncle Ocho
I beat y', all, too.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
That.
Uncle Ocho
That's all that matter.
Joe Johnson
Look, check this out. Check this out. Back to the Michigan and Arizona. When you look at. When you look at Mar. Lindenberg and Elliot. Yeah, you Know those are upperclassmen, Uncle Ocho's juniors and seniors. When you look at Arizona, key guys, Cold Pete Burrs, you know, birds, four for 16, 13 points. It's gonna be hard to win like that because you counting on your big dogs, your young guns to come through and play great. Cold Pete, 6 for 18. He had 11 rebounds, 16 points. But it's just, it's hard to win, dog, when you shoot an inefficiency like that against a team like Michigan, who's. Who grinds defensively. They fuel their offense and fueled off their defense and they just look comfortable out there from the start, man, it's like Michigan, they kind of know they the best team that's left in this tournament, Uncle Ocho. And they playing like it.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
They did. They did.
I mean, I expected, I, I thought the game would be much closer like you said, Joe, considering what we had seen from Arizona all year, especially in the tournament, they had looked really, really good. And Michigan, they had been playing really well also.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
But I expected the game to be a lot closer than what it was, man.
This game really wasn't close.
Joe Johnson
Nah, they cut it. The single, they cut it to single digits, but it was like. They cut it like eight or nine. But then Michigan took right back off.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah. And, and that was. They, it was like they could never,
they could never, they could never breathe. They could never decompress because they were always climbing uphill. They never leveled off.
And so every time that you're like,
okay, we about to make a run and the next thing you know, Michigan would hit two threes back to back and get a layup.
And so was a single digit game.
Now it's pushed back up to 12, 14.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
And, and, and, and, and once they got it to 12 and 14 after
that second, that, that second run went
about 15 minutes to go in the
second, it was over.
Now they went from, it went from like 15 and the next day, you know, you look up his 30, I'm like, Damn.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, Michigan tough. Like, damn, Michigan tough. They brought the fab five out. They had them. Yeah. Telecast. So they was kind of commentating on.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
I thought that was.
Yeah, I like it.
Joe Johnson
So. Hey, man, them dudes backing it up, Uncle. Oo. Michigan backing their words up, bro. They say they feel like they the best team in Michigan ever.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
So they one game away.
Joe Johnson
They one game away.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah, they. It's gonna be very interesting to see because like I said that, that, that original team that wanted in 89, they were. Yeah, like, they were like, they were like that. Yeah, I mean, you know, Glenn Rice. I mean, Glenn Rice, average 30. Hell, I'm not so sure.
I mean, Terry Mills. I think Terry Mills was the first round draft pick.
Lloyd Bot, Sean Higgins, Ramil Robinson.
That's all those guys, you know, playing. It played in the NBA.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Obviously Glenn Rice is the most well known, right. Because he won a championship with Kobe. And I think Rice was an all star, if I'm not mistaken. I think he made the all star game.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. When he was with Miami.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah, Miami, Charlotte.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
So they got.
They have another game to prove, and this is why you play the game. And Jay and J. Rose said, you know, I ain't got no problem with that. We weren't able to get it done. We did go to back to back. It just so happens we ran into that juggernaut and you know, we ran into Duke. Ain't no harm in losing the Duke. Cause you look at the guy there late, and they had Grant Hill.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Bobby Hurley. Ain't no harm in losing that. They were so close against Carolina and C. Webb called that time. It had been very interesting had that not happened.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
What would have happened in that ball game if it goes to overtime or whatever happens. But we'll never know with that. But Michigan does have an opportunity to. This, this team here, these players here, Luxembourg Johnson Jr and all these guys, they have an opportunity to leave a legacy, to be one of the teams that won a national championship. And there hadn't been very many basketball, you know, teams in Michigan that won a championship. So they definitely have something. You know, they can come back 10, 15, 20 years from now. Because think about how we look at the Fab Five and they didn't want a championship. Just imagine had they won a championship, how people would look at the Fab Five.
Joe Johnson
Oh. Cause they were the culture. They were the culture back then.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yes.
Joe Johnson
The hot socks, black socks,
Uncle Ocho
baggage shorts.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Man, they were hard, bro. That. Hey, that was a tough team.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Better.
Like they had on Jayla Rose pad.
Like he had on Knickers, man.
Joe Johnson
Hey, can you imagine what Nil would have been like with them dudes?
Uncle Ocho
Oh, that would have been nice. It would have been. It would have been nice.
Joe Johnson
Hey, them boys some back pay or something, man.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You. You mean. You mean
legal nil?
There are a couple of things going on, but we ain't gonna talk about that. But I mean, we. We know what you mean. No, Joe.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Legal nil. The sec. The first game. Yukon tops Illinois to advance to his third title game in four years.
This is a case to be made that Tars Reed, 17 points, 11 rebounds today, had been the best player in the tournament. Solo Ball has also recorded double digits in scoring in three consecutive games. Braylon Mullen, 15 points, 2.

John Green
Soccer. Football is a story we've shared for over 30 years, since Daniel was the star player on our high school soccer team.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Very debatable.
John Green
And I was their most loyal and sometimes only fan. I love this game. I love its history, its hope, its heartbreak, and above all, its beauty.

47 from 3. UConn held his best, held the best offense in the country to a 34% clip from the field. And they connected on a barrage of 3:12, the most in Final Four game from the pro for the Program the Huskies didn't commit a turnover in the first half. A record under Bobby Hurley. Man, when you look at the way they play, I don't know what it is about this kid.
And I think Mullins is a freshman. And the first half he and Reed got off to this great start.
Joe Johnson
Yep.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
And then they were cold. But when they needed to get a bucket, man, you see, hey, Hurley got no problem dialing up a play and the kid hit a three and he
Uncle Ocho
ate when it matters most. Unki did the same. He did the same thing last game. Yeah, he was three after three and was missing and missing and miss after miss. But when they needed it most, he showed up in the last game and was able to get them that win. Same thing tonight. Now I'm not sure, I'm not sure if they'll be able to get away with it. Playing a team like Michigan, that, that's much better. That can get you behind the eight ball, you know, down, down double digits real quick.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You know what we. When I look at this Joe, I
don't know what people think, I mean but for him to win three championships in four years, you're looking at something only Wooden is done.
Joe Johnson
Man.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
What you call K. Not, not, not, not. You know, you look at Coach K, you look at Coach Smith and you look at Coach Knight and you look at Roy Williams and you look at
some of these guys.
Only Wooden here, he has an opportunity to win three championships.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
In a, in a four year span.
Now I don't know. Look, I don't want to, I don't want to get too far ahead of
myself but boy, he's being.
I mean you think about when you could say I wanted. Only one of the coach will have can say they've done this and that's Coach Wooden.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Who won 10 and I think he won like seven, eight in a row.
Oh, damn.
Joe Johnson
Hey, when you got somebody like Hurley at the helm, Uncle Ocho.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
I think he, he, he, he, he drives belief in his players. I think they take after him as, as far as his attitude, his fieriness, how they compete. Like Illinois is a pretty good team and they probably the highest scoring team in NCAA this year. And for them to get held to 62 points. I thought, I didn't think it was a pretty game but I thought Connecticut controlled the game, the entire game, you know what I mean? Pretty much from start to finish. They got off to a pretty good start. Like you say, Mullins got off to a great start, made a couple threes early. Now you find a rhythm and it's like playing catch up. This game, this wasn't no nine point game. This game was a lot worse than that. You know what I mean? They only lost by now, but I thought Illinois was really, they made a little comeback toward the end, but for the most part, man, Connecticut controlled this whole game, bro. They control the whole game.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah, I mean Connecticut is tough. I mean you look at, and I
don't know if we've seen a program because you look at a program, you
look at what Coach Calhoun did and we know the level of talent that he brought in there. From the Rip Hamiltons to all those guys that he brought in there. Yeah, the Ray Allen's, Rip Hamilton, Villa Nueva Okafor and all those guys. And he had Kimber, you know, Cardiac Kimberly. Yeah, a lot of these guys.
And then Kevin Ollie did it with a different set of guys and here
come Dan Hurley and, and, and, and, and you look at this, I mean
Coach Calhoun won three, Kevin Ali won one.
That's four right there.
If this guy, he'll have seven. That'll put him in front of Duke, that'll put him in front of North Carolina. That'll be trailing. Only north, that'll be trailing. If I'm not mistaken, that might put him in front of Coach Kentucky. I forgot Coach Rupp, cuz Coach Rub had, back in the 40s and 50s, Coach Rub had, had a stick down
there at the University of Kentucky.
But for, for what he's doing and you understand if you go play at
Yukon, you're going to be coached hard.
If you cannot deal, tough coaching, tough old school coaching. A guy that's going to get in your face. Don't you take your ass to UConn and tell my man, the man yelling
and screaming, that's what he is, that's who he is.
That's how he coach. And the, the, the proof is in the pudding. Yeah, yeah, it's hard to argue with those results. I mean, three back to back and
Joe Johnson
then three in four years, that's impressive, man. And, and the games ain't been pretty, man. They ain't, they ain't really had. I mean you look at the, the buzzer beater shot that they made just to make it to the Final Four.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah.
Joe Johnson
Then you know, it's like you gotta have a little luck in this, this too fellas. You know what I mean? And I think like I said, Dan Hurley, he has those dudes playing the right way, playing hard, competing at the highest level. And they got each Other's back, bro. It's a fun team to watch. I love to see how the alumni come together. For the UConn guys, all those guys were at the game supporting. That's dope. I think it gives the players an extra edge when they out playing. It's just like the Michigan Cats. They see C. Webb and Jalen Rose now. It's gonna make you. It's probably gonna make you work a little hard. You're like, hold on. These dudes at the game, we don't want to have no let down now. Same thing with Connecticut. You got Ray Allen and all the guys there, Rip Hamilton. I just think it's a dope. I think it's a dope environment. I'm glad to see these guys moving along. And I think Connecticut and Michigan. It's going to be a hell of a game on Monday night, fellas.
Uncle Ocho
Oh, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Always great. Ocho, you know, being in the league and you see those former great. You see Munoz and a lot of these old guys come back, the alumni.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
When you was at Arkansas and some of those old guys, be it Corliss Williams. Yeah, yeah. Sydney Moncrief, a lot of these old guys, they come back.
You. You like, damn.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, man.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Y' all came back to see us, and I can't let y' all guys down.
I gotta win this one, right?
Yeah, right. You know, it's kind of like when homecoming, when everybody comes back, you want to play your best ball because everybody's coming back.
And you know why they came back, right?
Yeah, I love that also. I love that you look at Duke and how those guys go back in the summer and they play, and all those guys that's going to Duke, they like, damn, I damn sure want to be. I want. I want to be a part of that. Or Alabama, you know, and the way a lot of these. A lot of these teams that produce a lot of NFL or NBA players, they go back.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
When they go back, it lets like, okay, they. They really close. This is really a brotherhood.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Yeah, you're right.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
There's no jealousy or guys just competing, playing at a hard level. They can pass along what it's like to play, what it's like to be in this situation. Guys started this 40 plus years ago. Your job is to continue it. Just like our job was to continue. We passed it on to. You got to continue this. Look, like you said, Joe, it wasn't. I mean, it wasn't like UConn shot the COVID off the ball. Now, both teams, one team. Shot 35%. The other team shot 34%.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
One team shot 23% from the three. The other team shot 36% in from the three.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
The difference is. Is that Yukon and that Yukon makes
you play like this.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
They get up into you.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
They picking you up.
They're pressuring the ball. Hey, those guards, they pressure back court.
They do a great job of rebounding. They do a great job of boxing out. Yeah, man, I. I can't say enough about Coach Early. You know, I. I thought he'd have been a great fit for the Lakers, but he's like, nah, that ain't.
That ain't.
I'm a. I'm a Jersey kid.
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, hey.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
Another thing about Mr. Hurley not really taking that Lakers job, you know, ain't really no security in that, you know, especially when it comes to coaching Lakers. The pressure that comes with coaching the Lakers.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You ain't coaching the Lakers like you coach UConn.
You ain't gonna be yelling at Luca and LeBron.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah. It's kind of different. Hey, hey. But Joe. Hey, hey, Joe. Is no sense of security in taking a job like that, even. Even though it's a good job to have. It's a prestigious job to have, obviously, coaching a historic franchise like the Lakers. But I understand why Mr. Hurley turned that down, even with the money they was offering him. Yeah, I ain't gonna be. I ain't gonna be there too long. Yeah, I'm not gonna be there too long. Cause soon as things don't go right, I'm out the goddamn dope.
Joe Johnson
You gonna be the scapegoat. And I think. I think Uncle Ocho in college, you know, as a coach, you got a little more control.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Oh, you got a lot of control.
Yeah, you got all the control, to be honest.
Joe Johnson
You get guys that are very hungry to work and obviously make it to the next level, so they're gonna do pretty much whatever you ask.
Uncle Ocho
Yes.
Joe Johnson
As opposed to. Hell, you get to the Lakers.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
It's people, man, I make 300 million. How you telling me what to do? So, I mean, you know what it's like. You know what it's like, Ocho.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You got a lot more. Your. Your mom.
Them and grandparents look at you a
lot differently when you making the money, when you paying all the bills.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
That all of a sudden. You know what? It's okay, baby, come in here when you want to. Where before I could come in the house after mid. But that. Baby, hey, come in when you Want to. So, yeah. And so we. And Joe, you said something in the Ocho, we've talked about this. As a 18, 19 year old kid, he's trying to get to the next level. So as Joe said, that guy is going to pretty much do whatever you tell him because he feel you're helping him get to that level. I'm already at that level. What you telling me, right?
Joe Johnson
What they're gonna be? I mean, you see how Luca did JJ told him go sit his ass down. That when he came down. Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, hey, hey, Unc. And at that. At that point, too, Joe, you know, correct me if I'm wrong. It takes a certain coach to gain the kind of respect for players that's already millionaires that got that kind of money.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Uncle Ocho
It depends on who coaching them. You know what I mean? The players have control at the NBA, but depending on the face that's the head coach of them, they wouldn't have listened.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
They're a little bit more receptive, depending who it is. Especially I would think maybe a former player or maybe a coach that has a winning record like a Phil Jackson.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You got to deal with egos, Ocho.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Because at the college game, you can tell the guys because you got five.
Five stars.
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Say in order for us to win, we've got the ak. You got to do this, you got to do that. But when you got those kind of guys, bro, I'm getting my points down. What he said, give me that ball. I'm playing. I'm playing 40 minutes.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
And I'm gonna get my numbers.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, right? Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Now, if I.
If. If in the course of this game, you know, hey, I can get me four or five rebounds and dish out some assists, but I'm gonna get my points. And so that's what Phil was really good at.
Phil was really good at managing egos,
and that's what you have to do.
Joe Johnson
It's hard, man.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
And as a coach, Joe, you notice Ocho, you know this, That's a grown man. He got a wife too.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
How you talking to him? Like. Like, he loves that. I'm a grown ass man.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. So, you know, you can talk to some of them college players like that, but I promise.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
When you get to the pros, bro, it's only so much guys gonna take. I'm telling you, they may let it
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
put hands on you.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, I ain't telling what somebody told me. I'm telling you what I know. I can't talk to no man like you talk to 18, 19 year old kid.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
He'll slap five from you, man.
Joe Johnson
Listen. Hey, boy.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey.
Joe Johnson
I've been in some locker rooms where I seen some coaches and some players get into it and I'm like, hold on, what's going on here? Yeah, it's. It's different, bro. It's different when you get to the pros, man. It's different.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, how you let that man push you down now? You let that man kick you your butt. Come on. I mean, I could never do that because the way we. I grew up in the south and the coach, the coach was damn like a parent.
Whatever.
He said, if you, if hey, you. I go home and say, granted, the coach grabbed my face mask and did all this. What? The first thing she asked, what'd you do?
Uncle Ocho
Right?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
What you supposed to say? You're supposed to say, nah, baby, he only supposed to do that. You're asking me what I did. No matter what I did, he should have grabbed my face mask and listen.
But as a grown man.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You gotta have a level of. And that's what I said. You got to be careful how you a man talk to another man. Oh, well. Where you tried to win games. Okay, okay.
Joe Johnson
Win game.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
It's hard to win game when one of your best players got a lot closed.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. And that is real important to Uncle Joe at that level. Whether it's. Whether it's NFL, whether it's mlb, whether it's even NBA. Every coach has to know his player. Every coach has to know his limits. You got to know how to coach certain people a different way. You co. You can coach some people hard.
Joe Johnson
I agree.
Uncle Ocho
And some people, you can't be like that. You know, you got, you got to call them a little bit you want out of them.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
You know, to maximize their talent.
Joe Johnson
You.
Uncle Ocho
You better understand your players very, very well.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Cause everybody. Yeah, but because everybody don't respond the same way.
Uncle Ocho
Nah.
Joe Johnson
You know what I mean? Like you can. It's just like, man, when I was playing at Arkansas on the coach, Nolan Richardson, Uncle Ocho, I'm talking about, man, when you talking about somebody who stayed on my ass, I'm like, hell, I started to wonder if he liked me. But then, you know, as you get older, you like, well, if he own you, then he see something in you.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Something.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah.
Joe Johnson
But if he come in there, he don't look at you, don't speak to you. Oh, it's a problem.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
You know what I mean? So I had to learn that way.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Coach Calvin told a story about when he was a D coordinator in. In Kansas City. And Percy Snow. Percy Snow came out with me. He's from Michigan State. And if I'm not mistaken, Percy might
have been defensive player of the year. Jason, who was defensive?
No, it might have been him or say I.
But anyway, Coach say he was real quiet.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
He did something, and coach was trying
to say something, and. And Percy didn't respond.
So Coach Cowell cut the light on and say, percy. You hear what I'm saying? He said, percy, turn around. Coach. Is there a problem, Coach?
He turned the light off. Nah, it ain't no problem.
Uncle Ocho
For real?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, I found that out the hard way. When coach stay on you, man, don't be one of them guys who always got something to say back. Cause if you are, he gonna be on your ass all. You know what I mean? Hey, look, he got on me. I sit there, just take it and keep moving. You know what I mean? I ain't never say nothing back because I want you to go on. Leave me alone.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Exactly. But like I said, some coaches, you can ride.
Some coaches, you got to be facetious. I mean, some players, you got to be facetious with. Some players, like, look here, son, this is what we need from you. We need to be X, Y, and Z.
And you need to explain it to him in a tone, because I'm telling you, you try to talk to everybody. You try to coach everybody the same way. I'm telling you, hey, Joe, I ain't telling what somebody told me.
I'm telling you.
I've seen it.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. Hey, now, you. I'm. I'm. I'm one of the few, obviously.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Oh, really?
Uncle Ocho
Hey, my. My upbringing, Joe, you. You know how coaching was. I'm sure you've seen many clips. Uncle. You know how they. You know how they coach down here in Miami. You know how they coach, you know, in the inner city, it's different. The screaming, the cussing, the coaching, slapping of the helmet.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
Grabbing up, the yanking.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You.
Uncle Ocho
You know how that is?
Joe Johnson
That's how I came up.
Uncle Ocho
Bingo. So, obviously in Cincinnati, you know, man, Hugh Jackson, I don't care about you wearing 85. I don't care about you being Chad. I don't care about you being Ocho. I'm gonna coach you the same way I was coached when I was growing up, and I understood that. So I'm youth, so. Because I'm used to it from back then, Yeah. I thought, okay, this is how it's supposed to be. I wasn't tripping.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
But other players that weren't even at my level of talent or caliber.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Uncle Ocho
He had to coach him a different way, man. Coach me hard, man. Cuss me. I don't care what you do. Slap my helmet up, whatever. If that's what it takes to get the best out of me, I'm all for it.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
I don't know. You could do that now.
I don't know if you can coach young kids like. Like.
Like what we got.
Uncle Ocho
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, man. Parent to be at. Parent to be at the school. Parent be at the. At the field cutting the fool.
Joe Johnson
They're going to be in the portal hell after that.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
They.
Uncle Ocho
Oh, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Because you see, hey, the parents not run out there and be fighting the coaches and all kind of things. I ain't never heard. I ain't never heard of no parents. I mean, growing up in. And coaches would grab face masks and slap your side, the head or do all kind of stuff. Punch you in the chest.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Not one parent ever came out there.
Joe Johnson
No, no, no.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, you saw that.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Because most of the time, the parents knew the coach. They went to school with him.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Uncle Ocho
Always.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
You Uncle Joe, you seen the clip of the 707 the dude knocked out the ref?
Joe Johnson
I seen he was.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah, I saw that.
Yes.
Fired on him.
Joe Johnson
He was squared up with the other.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, what a one.
Uncle Ocho
Ref knocked out on the floor. He squared up with the other one. I'm like, man, what are we doing? What does 707 come to?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, but now those are parents that are living their life through the kids.
See, if you. If like Joe, what Joe look like out there? Like you think your kid is your meal ticket.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
So you living vicariously through your kid?
Joe was a professional.
I was a professional. You was a professional, Ocho, you ain't finna be carried on like that. Cause you've had your life. Let the kid live their life. Yeah, but when you live vicariously through your kid, you think that's you. That ain't you. Sit your ass down.
Joe Johnson
Yep. And then the mistakes that you made as a youngster, you trying to help him. Not make those, not make them. Yeah, but hey, Ocho, you said something. I agree with you, too. I think the upbringing that we had, meaning the tough coaching like I was in. When I was in playing AAU ball for Mike Greenwood, Sylvester Allen, they kind of raised. They raised me, taught me the game, taught me how to compete. And then you get to high school and college is different, and I'M getting chewed out, you know what I mean? So by the time I make it to the pros, Uncle Ocho, the coach get on me, man. That shit going one day after other, out the other. Yeah, listen, that don't even bother me, bro. You gonna let me play or what? I just wanna. I just wanna play.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, hey. And you know what? I don't think a good thing, Uncle Joe. You think about today's society and the way kids are being raised, they're being coddled. There's really no discipline. There's really no structure. And I think it's almost handicapping the kids because once they get in the
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
real world, they got no coping skill.
Joe Johnson
There you go. They gonna quit as soon as it gets tough.
Uncle Ocho
It's gonna eat. It's gonna eat you up. It's gonna eat you up quick. So I. I wish in. In a sense we can go back to maybe not how it was when we grew up, but just a little bit of structure, just a little bit of discipline. Because life ain't gonna be fair once you're out there on your own.
Joe Johnson
It's hard to have discipline.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
The way these kids talk back, I mean, you might suck. You might. They call it kissing your teeth, but you might suck. Yeah, you might roll your eyes or stomp off or something. But it wasn't nobody blatantly just talking back and cursing out the teacher. Like, we see clips, students fighting teachers. That was.
Joe Johnson
Hey,
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
I don't see no teacher, man.
I couldn't be no teacher.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, you've been see some of the clips? Hey, Joe, you see some of the clips? The way the students talk to the teachers?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah, yeah. They slap them.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
I didn't see. Get out my beat. You better get out my face. They be on their phone. Kid might come back and pop. You ain't got time for that, man.
Uncle Ocho
Could you. Could you imagine raising your hand at a teacher back then?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
No, no.
The boy. That teacher called home and. And told Barney or Mary, I ain't going home. No, you. You called my grandma. Hold on.
Uncle Ocho
My grandma. Hold on. My grandma made me, Joe. And, yeah, I'm supposed to be at Miami, Northwestern, you know, with Teddy Bridgewater. And all these boys went, I'm in the inner city. My grandma say, baby, listen, once you hit ninth grade, you not going over there. I need to be able to keep an eye on you. She sent me over there to Miami B Senior High.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Why?
Uncle Ocho
Because she's taught at the middle school. She taught the Nautilus Middle School.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah.
Uncle Ocho
Lo and behold, I was very smart of her because my badass always skipping class, she able to get over there in 10 minutes to me.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, she. She already knew you was a little dumb.
Uncle Ocho
Oh, hey, Joe. Hey, Joe. I was bad, Joe.
Joe Johnson
All right?
Uncle Ocho
I ain't gonna lie to you, Joe. I wasn't. I wasn't like in the street bad. I was bad in school bad. And other people pee class.
Joe Johnson
Hey, you got both lunches? You on both lunches?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Both.
Uncle Ocho
Both lunches, Joe.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, I kept an effing conduct. I got A's and B's. I got an effing condom.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, let me tell you how bad I was, Uncle Joe. You know, in high school with us, in order to be outside the class while class was going on, he had to have a hall pass. I had hall passes in my bag, already signed, based on what period it was, so if I got caught in the hall, I could show it. Man, I got. I got suspended five, five, five days when they found out I had stolen passes and the teacher really didn't sign it.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man. Hey, hey, your parents. Hey, they be pissed if you get suspended, boy, and you got to stay home for more. Three days.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, you gotta stay home three days. Hey, don't answer the dough for nobody, right?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Nobody.
Uncle Ocho
I don't care who it is. Nobody should be coming here doing work hours.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
That's how she got up a couple extra dollar. I mean, hurt my aunt. Oh, y' all got suspended, huh? Okay, that gonna cost you. I tell Barney Porter you got suspended, it's gonna be hell at 4, box 385. And what it gonna cost? Hey, hey, guys, they get on the bus just like they going to school. Hey, get off the bus. Yeah, and go walk the streets until it's time. Get back on the bus and come on. Cause, boy, if I told Barney Porter they were suspended.
Joe Johnson
Oh, no. Been on like Donkey Kong with it, man.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
What? Man, that man ain't played that foolish. Hey, he said he already told him, say, you ain't got to go to school, but if you go to school, go to learn, right?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, simple as that.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
He's a. You could quit. It's a. You quit, you gotta work. Yeah, but if you go to school, don't be.
Hey, he did not. He did not believe my grandma. The same way do not believe in wasting people time. Yeah, then people go there. Other people want to learn. Just because you don't want to learn,
that don't mean you go there and
interrupt somebody else learning.
Right?
Joe Johnson
Man, listen, I never understood how cats would come to School and act a fool knowing their parents didn't play that, bro. I'm like, man, I know your mom and daddy, boy. They ain't playing none of that. I don't know why you here acting a clown. Cause I know. I know my mom and my grandma weren't having it. Oh, no.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, Joe, you got beings.
Joe Johnson
I got whoopings, Ocho.
Uncle Ocho
Well, you weren't that. You weren't that big then, huh?
Joe Johnson
I wasn't. No, I'm saying. I'm saying when I was a youngin. But I'm saying, like, I wasn't no bad child. Now, you. You know, if you was in the. If I was in the house with you, you wouldn't even know I was in there. I'd be in that chill in my room. I'm still. I stay to myself. You know what I mean?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Okay. But you know, Joe, quiet.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, I ain't.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
I ain't in class. Even if you were big, though, Joe, you wouldn't, boy. Bet you, man, I was bigger than my grandma, but I wouldn't blow up at it. Even if I was getting even if I was dead. I knew I was wrong. I knew if my. If I wanted to break loose or do something, I knew my grandma couldn't handle me. Right?
Joe Johnson
Right.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Come on, man.
Joe Johnson
Right, Right.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
I had too much respect for my grandmother.
Ever raised my hand to ever raise my voice.
There you go. At any adult, even them teachers at school.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Yeah, that's me, too. You got too much respect for your people, man. Your mom, grandma, your dad. You ain't. Man, you ain't gonna be acting no fool like that.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
I know you wouldn't. I mean, even. Even people that weren't your family members. Like I said, it was a community. It was a community back then.
Uncle Ocho
A village.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Correct you if you're doing something wrong. They'll say, son, you, son. You supposed to be doing that right, ain't you? Ain't you marrying Barney grand boy?
Joe Johnson
Yes, ma'.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Am. What do they know you?
No, ma'.
Am. Okay. You want me to tell them? No, I sure don't.
Please don't tell them.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, you tell you about correct.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hell to pay, Correct.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, Joe, back then, you get in trouble depending on where you at. Depending on it's a family member or somebody that is close to your mama. Your grandfather.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
Or your pops. They can whoop you.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah, Absolutely.
Uncle Ocho
Not only can they whip you once, they tell your parents, then you get another whooping when you get home.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Absolutely 1,000%, Ocho. 1,000.
Joe Johnson
Hey, let me Tell y' all something. I could take a whooping from anybody in my family, bro, but. But my auntie. My Aunt Sherry, she was a military lady.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
When I said she had. She got twins, Derek and Deborah. When I tell y' all this lady didn't play, I'm talking about. Cause she coming in there swinging extension cord. She ain't damn a belt. She coming there swinging that stitching cord. Ocho train track. I'm talking about, if you in the way, your ass gonna get hit. I'm like, yes.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
And, you know, back then, they hit you with anything they hit, you pick up a shoe and throw it that wooden spoon. I thought my head was a drum. The way they hit me in my head with that spoon, the first thing
Uncle Ocho
they get their hands on. Joe. Grandma.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
Let me tell you, when you get in trouble. I'm just saying, for me, I'm not sure how anybody else. You know, how anybody else was raised. When I get in trouble, especially when it came to school and I came home, the first thing she say is, lay right here on my lap. It took forever. It took forever, me to get on that knee. Yeah, lay on her lap. But she.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
She put.
Uncle Ocho
She put me on. On one leg, right? And she take the other leg and wrap it around to where it's locked right behind the knee joint. So I can't move, huh? So it's like I'm stuck in a sense. Man, listen, man. Hey, I. I never forget that. I never forget them whooping.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Boy, it's. It's.
Joe Johnson
It's some whoopings that I've seen. I ain't necessarily had, but it's whooping that I've seen, that I'm still scarred to this day. I ain't lying to y' me. Tell y' all something. It was Christmas. Around Christmas, my cousin, them. They pinching the bottom of the presents trying to see what they got. Yeah, my auntie done figured all that out. When I tell y', all, she came in there swinging that stitching cord. Boy, I was in the corner, I'm like, I ain't touched nothing. I'm talking about.
Uncle Ocho
Them was some good days, man. Good days.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
But I'll outlook everybody that I knew in my family. That's how my uncles raised their kids.
Yeah, that's how my grand.
Because that's how they were raised. So I didn't know any different. I thought. Hell, I just. Everything that I saw, my uncle, they didn't play that.
Especially Thornell, because Thornell Thornhill was the oldest rescue soul. He passed and then my mom, they were.
They were close.
They were thurno born in 40, mama born in 43.
So they were the oldest. Because back then, the oldest son, there was a great chance he wasn't gonna finish school.
He gonna be working with the great.
He gonna be working with the man. In them fields, if they will put wooden. They dip in tar, whatever the case may be, he's gonna be doing that.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
The oldest girl was gonna help the mom raise the kids.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
She gonna learn how to cook. She gonna learn how to clean. She's gonna learn how to wash clothes. Because that was her job, her responsibility. Because my grandma was going right back to the field.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
To pick cotton. And as the other kids got older, guess where they are. In the fields with my grandma.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
They didn't play that. All that talking back, boy, you couldn't. Don't slam no dough. Don't stomp your feet, don't suck your teeth, don't roll your eyes, nothing, boy.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, boy, if Barney park.
Lord, I wish my brother here tell
y' all the story. That man didn't play. Not what he even is. His own grand. His own kid. Grown. Grown. Got kids. Yeah. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Don't. Don't. Don't nobody disrespected that man. I'm talking about. Nobody go to Glenville, Georgia, and ask anybody. My from the ages of 70 on back down. Say, tell us about Mr. You know anybody. Think about Barney Porter, man.
Mister, Barney didn't play. He sure didn't. He didn't play the drums. He damn sure ain't played with nobody.
Kids, all that kid. That's why I get all that. Kiki, kid.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm with you on that. My uncles, my aunties, my grandma, grandpa. Man, they ain't play them games, bro.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
And that's. That's what I've been telling Ocho. I said I didn't grow up like that.
Joe Johnson
No.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
All that playing. Cause they would say, stop all that
playing before somebody get mad.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Cause when somebody get mad, I'm gonna
get mad and I'm gonna tear both your asses up.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, the funniest thing I never forget. Joe Joe and Unc, man, as a little kid, you know, my grandma, she's singing in the choir. So if she's singing in a choir, that means she all the way up there. I'm out there in the pews.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
So I know where she can't get to me right now. Yeah, man, I'm in there playing around man, with my little brother in church. I never forget Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Overtown. And they singing. And me and him, we back there tussling, playing around.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Brianna Stewart
In church.
Uncle Ocho
And she stopped moving. Quiet, going back and forth, swaying. Yeah, they should stop swaying and just look.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Turn into a ventriloquist.
Uncle Ocho
What?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Because my grandma could talk without moving the lips.
Uncle Ocho
Ocho, man.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Cause we had. You had to be on the first or the second pew, the benches, pews, whatever you guys call it. Yeah, we had to be on the first one or the second one. You don't be a fake, you know.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
My grandma, my grandma in deaconess corner. Yeah, boy, my grandma. Hey, when you get home, I like you cousin in the church didn't hear that. Good boy. When we got home.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Barney, Mary ain't. Ain't play like that. So I. I think you know what. And I said, I was telling you guys the other day, I think that's a lot of all that playing, that keep. Because he didn't do that. He didn't do. He didn't. Hey, he wasn't about no cracking no jokes, man. We going fishing one day, we pull up there with my grandfather pumping gas, and the dude say, all right, Mr. Barney, don't catch them all. Oh, Lord, you think that man called that man? Oh, Lord. Oh, you know, if, hey, you know if everybody said, hey, don't catch them all.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, man.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
My granddad put that car that put that truck in part and cussed that and call that man everything. Hey, you know, my grandfather had false teeth also.
Joe Johnson
Oh, he had his teeth.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
He had his teeth on the dash
Joe Johnson
in that glass cup.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
No, they were the Kleenex. He had him in Kleenex.
Joe Johnson
Oh, he had him in Kleenex, Yeah, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Had him in Kleenex.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, hey, Mr. Barney, better catch your teeth before they run away. I think me and spanking thing. I look at. Spanking, spanking, look at me. I said, why you keep playing with. He said, man, I done told you I'm a grown ass man. I don't play. Yeah, like that. Yeah, stop playing with me. Yeah, before I hurt you.
Joe Johnson
Yeah,
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
he meant that.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Cause look here, my grandfather was. I think Uncle Willie was the young. Was the baby. So papa probably was like the knee baby.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
There's some older brothers and sisters.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
My grandfather.
My grandfather had a thing. Don't thump a kid. He'd always say, don't thump a kid on his head. You make him thick head.
Yeah, he won't learn.
I ain't gonna make it. Hey, you ain't gonna learn. Come he got a problem or he ain't gonna learn. Yeah, but he had a. He. He always tell he didn't play that. Don't thump the kid on the head.
My grandfather we on the front porch, me spanking and his brother. I ain't gonna call his name.
He thought it. Ow, stop, Uncle. I said, I call his name. Papa was in the bed.
He thought me again.
I said, ow, stop thumping me.
After a while, my grandfather slept naked. After a while, you could hear the change jiggling. He putting on them coveralls? Yeah, I never seen wear anything but coveralls.
Yeah, he wear the.
The one with the strap like junior samples.
He had to fool the full cover off. Balls.
Yeah, I heard him putting them on. Came out there, he said, he said, I've been told you. I said, I told you don't thump your boys on the head. You make them thick headed, they won't learn. Yeah, he said, if you thump it one more time, I' ma blow your brains out.
He got in his car and left.
He never came back.
I probably was about five.
My grandfather, that was three years when my grandfather died. He ain't going to church to look at him.
He was at the church, but he
ain't even go in there.
When I say Barney Porter ain't play as a kid.
Well, most of the kids.
Damn.
I mean, ain't nobody left but the older kids. Thurnell gone, BJ gone, Gladys passed, Marinell Pass and Thermal pass.
So five of them gone.
Ain't nobody left with Jane, Sherman, Mama and James. He did not play.
He would if he. If he told you something. Set your clock back.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
If he told you. If you had church and he told you he gonna tear your ass up when you got home.
Just know it.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, if he.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You uptown and you acting a fool. I got a dude put. Kid pushed me, man, that pushed me. I put. I pushed him so hard, man. Skin all his knees up. The only difference was they always catch the guy. Yeah, man, the principal got me and whipped me.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man,
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
guess what? I went right home.
Uncle Ocho
I was.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, I was cool. I got about halfway home, I started crying. And I got off that bus. Boy, what's wrong with you? He had a deep. He had a deep. Boy, boy, what's wrong with you? That boy pushed me down. I pushed it back. Papa and Mr. Such and so whipped me. We got in the car, we got in the car, went right back up there.
So you put your hands on his Boards again. I had no problems.
When I say that, man. Didn't play.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Nope. Hey, man, but that's the discipline.
So I was used to, like, coaches. Grab your face, man. Son, do you hear me talking to you? Son, do you hear me talking? Oh, you know you'll hear me talking to you. Well, damn, I heard you from the sideline. Yeah, but. But if that's what you grew up with. But I just like, man, I sure
want to be a good enough player one day. A coach won't yell at me. Like I can say no. I don't yell at me like that. Don't coach me like that.
That's what I was thinking when I was a little kid. They yell at everybody, man.
Joe Johnson
That's how you just had to take it. Yeah, that's how it was.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, Uncle Joe, y' all ever saw a matter of fact chat, too? Y' all ever saw the documentary Year of the Bull?
Joe Johnson
No, I ain't seen.
Uncle Ocho
Never saw that, man. I mean, if you ever get opportunity. Joe. Uncle be busy, Joe. If you ever get opportunity, watch the documentary chat. I'm not sure if y' all seen it called the Year of the Bull. And it. And it's. It's a. It's a visual reference on how we are coached regardless of what inner city school you go to, regards to what optimist club you go to down here in Miami. Yeah, it's exactly like that. Yeah, it ain't pretty. And if you watch it in today's time, in today's era, you'd be like, ain't anyone. Hell, anybody can do that to my child or do it to my kid. No, but that's. That's the way it was.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
People kill hell at you about the kids.
Now, you do that to you. You do that to somebody, kid.
Now, boy, they kill hell out you, man.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, if you. If you see that, you. You. If you see that, you'd be like, oh, hey. Oh, hell, no. But, hey, them coaches. And it obviously is about Miami, Northwestern, you know, back in the day, the way they. The way they coach, slapping the kids, coaching the kid, fighting on the field, every. Everything on camera.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Oh, yeah, but you know Coach hall, who coached my brother. Coach hall coached my mom. My mom graduated in 1960. I graduated in 86. Coach hall coaching my mom. My high school coach coached my mom. He coached all my uncles.
Joe Johnson
He.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
He taught driver's ed.
But he was a Coach hall at Coach Holly. His whole favorite word, sucker.
Yeah, he called somebody. He called you a sucker quick. But he.
He had the right temperament.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
To be a coach, and everybody knew it.
He coached everybody that grew up. Coach Hall, Coach their coach, their mom, their dad, and went to school with
their grandma and granddad.
So they knew Coach hall.
Joe Johnson
And
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
he from Savannah.
Now, mind you, Savannah, Glenville is 65 miles from Savannah. For 50 years, he drove from Savannah to Glenville every day and drove back home.
Sometimes he would drive to Glenville. We'd have a track meet in Savannah, take us to the track meet, drive us back to Glenville, drop everybody off. I was the last one he dropped off.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Drive back, get his car, and drive back to Savannah and be back.
Back to Glenville.
Joe Johnson
Damn.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
So every hall of Fame I've been in, he been there. Super bowl, all the.
He's been there.
That's the kind of. That's the kind of coach I need. Got the peewee, the pop water, coaches in the JP Cause I. You know, hey, I started to get good, Joe. I start to smell myself.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, Yeah. I already know it. I already know it.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey.
Hey.
I quit. Or at least threaten to. We got our game on Monday night. We got the UConn Huskies taking on the Michigan Wolverines on a Monday night. Who you got? You will start with you, Ocho. Who you got?
Uncle Ocho
I. I got Michigan. I got. I got. I got. Yeah, I got Michigan.
Joe Johnson
I got Connecticut. Since Ocho got Michigan, I ain't got. I ain't right. I ain't riding with you. I got Michigan. You want. Bet. You want. I mean, you got Michigan. I got Yukon.
Uncle Ocho
Let's bet some on it.
Joe Johnson
All right.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You know what?
Joe Johnson
Nah, let's not bet. Let's not bet. Let's not bet. Uncle. You got.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Oh, man, if Lindenberg wasn't hurt, I think I would take Michigan, but I might got to go UConn, man.
I don't know if they. I don't know if they could beat
UConn without him, right?
Joe Johnson
Without him. Healthy. 100.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yes.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, I tell you what. I tell you what. Since both of y'.
Joe Johnson
All.
Uncle Ocho
Both of y' all got UConn, right?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
Let's. Let's. Let's make a little small wager. A small wager that's feasible for me where I won't. I won't miss it. 500 a piece.
Joe Johnson
Listen, listen, listen, Ocho, I already owe you an ass whooping. I just don't want it to get out of hand, you know what I mean? To where you owe me the way you owe me now?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, hey, but look, just. Hey, Joe, look what he got on the back of it, man.
Joe Johnson
That's what I. We've been talking about this already. You know, that's your boy.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
That's me. I'm going to see I'm getting the ass. Let Ash go ahead and send that to you.
Joe Johnson
There you go. What size is it? What size is. Make sure I can.
Uncle Ocho
What you gonna. You gonna wear it?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna wear it large.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
I can squeeze and I get in there. I can get it.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Hey, tell them, Joe. If you don't do nothing, take a picture in it.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, hey, come on. Hey. Let's stick the business now. Let's stick to business. So we want to bet 500 or what? 500 a piece.
Joe Johnson
What do you think? Should we trust him on this?
Uncle Ocho
It's only 500.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You owe me 5,900 for. For three years.
Uncle Ocho
But that. That's any. That's an emergency fund.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Huh? So what. So I guess the 500 gonna go to the emergency fund also.
Uncle Ocho
I'm pay. A matter of fact, I'm gonna pay y' all right on the spot on the show Monday night. I'm. I'm telling you. And. And Joe. Hey, Joe, for your sake, you better hope. You better hope we.
M
We.
Uncle Ocho
You know. Cause you talk about me on you. If Michigan win. I. I mean, if Michigan lose, I might not want to pay you just so you get mad.
Joe Johnson
See, you gonna piss me off, and I'm gonna whip your ass like you are. You're gonna add to the ass whooping. Oh, so don't do that. That's all I'm saying. I think you're a good dude. I really think you're a good dude. I really do.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
I'm a good dude. He just don't pay his debt.
Joe Johnson
I hate for it to go down like this. You know what I mean? Like, it's like a dude with a gun.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Like, I got one.
Joe Johnson
I don't really want to use it, but.
Uncle Ocho
Right.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You know what I mean?
Joe Johnson
Don't push me.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You feel me?
Uncle Ocho
Hey, hey, Unc. Honestly, I think Joe barking up the wrong tree.
Joe Johnson
Okay?
Uncle Ocho
Joe barking up the wrong tree, man.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
All that. I think I'm a damn.
I want to pick Michigan so bad.
Damn.
I hate that Lindenberg got hurt.
Joe Johnson
Hurt?
Uncle Ocho
Hey, come on. You're not. He hurt. He. He got a little thigh contusion. He gonna be all right by Monday, man. Please don't be all right by Monday.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
That. Man, that blood finish settle in that muscle.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, all they gonna do is get that graston. That's what we call it. Grassland, right?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Oh, you talking about where they take that thing and just.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, right. That thing up.
Joe Johnson
He gonna have to be doped up.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Yeah, that thing hurts so bad. That thing hurts so bad.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, it do. You ever had a contusion, Joe?
Joe Johnson
Nothing worse than that. When, like, you try to chase a dude and you get kneed in that quad. Yeah, it's a rap. Oo you out? About a week or two here.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, you got. You got to get on that fast, too, boy.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Who you taking, Joe? You taking Michigan?
Joe Johnson
Oh, I'm taking Connecticut.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
You taking Yukon?
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Oo taking Michigan.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. So. So both of y' all want to go against the grain? Y' all did the same thing when it came to making that bracket. You see, y' all lost.
Joe Johnson
We ocho.
Uncle Ocho
No, no, no, no, no, no. Hey, listen. I lasted longer than you two. That's all that matters.
Joe Johnson
It don't matter.
Uncle Ocho
I lasted longer than you two. That's the key.
Joe Johnson
I was happy as hell.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Arizona.
Uncle Ocho
Oh, yeah. So 500 bet.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
I might change my mind tomorrow.
I'll let you know.
Uncle Ocho
See? See? See? Hey, Somebody. Where he got common sense.
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
Come on.
Uncle Ocho
Come on over here to the winning side, huh?
Chad Ochocinco Johnson
But you janky, so I ain't sure that bought in with you already.
