All right? OO Liam Cohen, head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, says Travis Hunter winning offensively and defensive rookie of the Year is possible. Travis is listed as the start on offense and a backup on defense. To have a chance of winning both awards, you need to be playing full time offense and defense. So what do you think I like it.
Shannon Sharpe
I like it. I like it. I don't. Defensively, I don't think you'll win it. I think defensively Rookie of the year is probably going to be Abdul. Abdul Carter. It's going to be Abdul Carter. I'm not sure what the workload will look like for Ascent Genti down there in Las Vegas, but I think he would probably, probably come in second. But watching Abdul Carter and knowing what he can do defensively, especially coming off that edge, he gonna be a menace. He is going to be a menace, man.
Ocho Cinco
And you think about it, he got, he got Lawrence, he got Thibod. So pick and choose. He got a. He got a top two, three defensive tackle, he got Kayvon Thibod that can, you know, we know what he can do. He can rush the passer when he's healthy. So it's going to be hard to slide and try to like double him and take him away. You know, normally what we've seen is that quarterbacks get a premium on winning rookie of the year because Ocho, they got the ball. Joe going to be throwing. He throw 30 touchdowns. It's hard to overcome that. Now you have a situation like Chase, you know, Chase put 1,400 yards up, so it was hard to deny, deny him. You look at who else. Like you said, genty running backs, you get 300 carries. He average four and a half, five yards of carry. That, that's 14, 1500 yard right there.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, absolutely.
Ocho Cinco
And then guess what? 14, 1500 yards with 12, 15 touchdown.
Shannon Sharpe
I like, I like, I like, I like. I like about offensive Rookie of the year.
Ocho Cinco
You like about America.
Shannon Sharpe
They gonna get him that ball. They gonna get him that ball. Listen, Brian Thomas Jr. He's not going. Brian Thomas Jr. Is going to do exactly what he did last year, plus some. But because Thomas JR Is so great at what he does so early, he's going to be the one to get doubled, he's gonna be the one to get double. And that's when Trav is gonna do what he does. He gonna be gonna make the plays that he makes. I'm curious when they, when they go nickel, I wonder if Trav coming on nickel.
Ocho Cinco
Oh, yeah, for sure. The question is either gonna be outside or is it gonna be inside?
Shannon Sharpe
I think, I think it'd be inside to start off.
Ocho Cinco
You think so?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
He tall. I think he's. I think he better outside.
Shannon Sharpe
Okay. See, I don't, I don't, I don't know the depth chart for the, for the Jaguars. I'M not sure who they are. I'm sure they probably do have a nickel, so they. They might. I'm not sure how it's gonna work.
Ocho Cinco
Hey, Ocho, you know them guys enough slot man. Them jokers stopping on them ladies. Hey, they running that Zaro ride on you. They running that. Will. They running that. That whip route.
Shannon Sharpe
It's different.
Ocho Cinco
You get like Keenan Allen.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, did Keenan Allen just go back? Did he go back.
Ocho Cinco
He went back to the Chargers.
Shannon Sharpe
I like that. I like that.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah, I like. I like that move, too. I do. I like that move.
Shannon Sharpe
Familiar with the system. So all they got to do, familiar.
Ocho Cinco
Offense, familiar with at the quarterback. I like it. I like that move. There's. There it is on your screen. Do you see it? The depth chart?
Shannon Sharpe
Nice. It's not. It's not up there. It's not.
Ocho Cinco
He's sending it to you right now.
Shannon Sharpe
Let me see. Let me check that out real quick.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah, he gonna be starting because right now Jordan Lewis is the nickelback.
Shannon Sharpe
I got it.
Ocho Cinco
You got Tyson Campbell, you got Jerry and Jones.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, Jordan Lewis is there. Okay. Okay.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah. From the Cowboys.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, he definitely. Oh, yeah, he definitely.
Ocho Cinco
No, no disrespect, Darnell Savage. I think he's from Green Bay. Okay. I like Armstead, Josh Hines, Allen.
Shannon Sharpe
They got. They got a nice little. Got a nice little squad.
Ocho Cinco
What? I am happy to be back, too. Come on. They got a nice little squad.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, they're. They're going to be all right.
Ocho Cinco
I see you. I see you. I missed you too, buddy.
Shannon Sharpe
Man, you.
Ocho Cinco
When you.
Shannon Sharpe
You get special players like that, man, all you got to do is put them in position, man, and it opens up everything else you can do. You can do more. You have certain type of players with a special skill set. That's why. That's why I like what the Steelers have this year. Excuse me. On defense, you know, they tailed off towards the end of the season for whatever reason, but they have so much now where they can do more. It opens up the playbook because you have a certain set of players that have special skill sets. It allows you to do more than what you could last time or last year, for that matter.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah. So it's going to be interesting. Like I said, it's. I mean, I just. Woo. I think that's just asking a lot of the young man to play at that elite level and to try to play two positions. He. Grown men out here. It's different.
Shannon Sharpe
Listen, he said he could do it. We gonna find out. We're gonna find out real soon.
Ocho Cinco
You gonna find out.
Shannon Sharpe
I have a question. As a rookie, does he play in the preseason or no?
Ocho Cinco
Yeah, I think you got to give him some. I think you got to get him.
Shannon Sharpe
Let him go. Okay. Okay. Get used to that. Get used to that speed of the game because it's completely different. It's completely different than practice. Titus. What up, Twin?
Ocho Cinco
I guess you can tell. I guess you can tell I've been gone for 12 days.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, you've been going that long? Hey, Titus. What up, Twin? Come on. Come on down to Miami. I'll take you to the dog park over in Midtown.
Ocho Cinco
He said I'm intact. He said it'll. They throw us both out. Why he intact? That mean he still got his. He still. He still got his. Oh, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
That's the whole point. I give a. Hey, listen, it's a nice, nice poodles out there, little collies, you know, people sue you, man.
Ocho Cinco
Stop, stop. That's enough. Got me all scratched up.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, they about. They about. They about suing for every goddamn thing these days. Jesus Christ. So it's all right. Don't worry about it. I ain't. I ain't got it.
Ocho Cinco
They don't. I don't know, but it's gonna be very interesting to see. He's starting wide receiver opposite of Brian Thomas Jr. And then he's back up to Jerry and Jones. So, hey, paying him a boatload of money. He says he. He can do it. Let's see what he can do.
Shannon Sharpe
Prove all the doubters wrong.
Ocho Cinco
The Colorado Buffalo football have added Travis Hunt and Shador Sanders successes to their Legacy hall color Colorado Buffalo football. They tweeted two new legends, one historic Hall. Welcome to Legacy Hall. Travis Hunter and Shador Sanders. Many had issues with Shador and Travis's jersey being retired by Coach prime so quickly. Ocho, did Sanders and Hunter do enough to be immortalized so quickly?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, I would think so. There have been some other, other great, great college players. I'm not sure if they. Brother Cordell Stewart. If I'm not, I'm not mistaken. The running back not.
Ocho Cinco
Well, Ram Salam, who's no longer with. He won the Heisman. He won. He was their first. He won the Heisman. They've had.
Shannon Sharpe
Look, there's one more.
Ocho Cinco
I think the Supreme Court. He's a Supreme Court justice. Byron Wizard White. I think it was a Supreme Court justice. He was the first great Colorado player.
Shannon Sharpe
Another running back. I missed the running back. I think he wore number they had.
Ocho Cinco
They had Eric B. Enemy.
Shannon Sharpe
Eric B Enemy.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah, yeah, they had Darian Hagen, J J Flanagan came out with me. But they had some, they had really good football players. I mean, defensive players, you know, Chad Brown, they had Alfred Williams, they had Chris Hudson, Ronnie Bradford. They. I mean, they've had some. They've had some. They've had some. Some good players. They've had some good players. You know, Michael Westbrook came out of there. Ray Carruth came out. Him. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Brooke gave game out of there. He and Cordell was on the same team.
Shannon Sharpe
I mean, listen, this is. I mean, prime. Prime saw. Saw and felt it was, it was fitting, you know, to retire, especially with what they did. They, they had two good seasons. They turned that program around. I. I don't really see anything wrong with it, especially based off what the team looked like before they got there. And there, there should be nothing to be mad at.
Ocho Cinco
Well, look, you always gonna have some people because there are some people that says, hey, there are some guys that came before them and they probably should have, you know, not. I don't think the issue is the retirement of the jerseys. I think it's the time and how soon. So like a lot of these say if it happened, 20 and time was it. Hold on. So what Rashad, You. You, you. You do Rashad salon number. But look what it took for you to do it. You gave him flowers, but he ain't here to smell them. So I think I could be wrong. I'm. I'm speaking as if I said, okay, this how I'm thinking. I'm thinking out loud so you guys can hear me. It's like, okay, I got no problem. You want to retire Travis? You want to try Shador? Can we like make it like. Like 20 years? I'm diff. Look, I. Let me tell you, the University of South Carolina retired my brother's number. He was still playing. So who am I? Savannah State. They didn't retire my number. They just wouldn't give it out. There were a lot of guys that came in, wanted to wear the number two. And I remember Mackey who the head athletic trainer and Bill Davis said, I don't think you guys realize who actually wore that number. Yeah, coach, you have sharp. What Ward like a three time first team black college all American, a Kodak all American three time player of the year, offensive player of the year, Georgia State player of the year. There ain't a whole lot of black college players can say they were state player of the year. I beat University of Georgia players out. I beat Georgia Tech players out for that award. Yeah, Bill said so Coach Davis had passed and the, the, the president got in touch with Bucket. Bucket put me in touch with him. Says hey should nobody after talking to everybody that was here and some of the, some of the faculty was still there. Nah. So ain't come to bother you. Not Jordan and so but honestly Ocho, I think that has a lot to do with it. It's not that the numbers got retired. There's like is that it's like they bypassed the line. So you know Alfred Williams, a Chad Brown who was buckets award winners and things like that.
Shannon Sharpe
Why wouldn't whoever was in a position of power, why didn't they have him retired then?
Ocho Cinco
Bro, don't start me the line. I don't know that much about Colorado. I played in the state and I'm familiar with them but I don't know.
Shannon Sharpe
Listen, if they felt that much about them and they were great as they were during their time there, whoever was in in place should have retired him. Should have retired the Georgia if they saw fit. So I'm not sure why people are complaining. Deion Sanders during his time having Shador. I mean I'm confused. It makes no sense. The top selling jersey when he was playing and I'm not talking about somebody in general.
Ocho Cinco
The Colts released their first official depth chart on today ahead of their Thursday preseason game against the Ravens. The quarterback selection depth chart reads as follows. Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson senior.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, I like that. I like, I like how they did that. They said or right. But that thing up in the air, that thing, it is up in the air. It's up well. Oh my goodness. Man, I'm, I'm hoping Anthony Richardson is doing everything possible. I hope he's doing everything right. Going the extra mile, watching extra film, staying at the practice of the receivers, talking to your officer coordinator, talking to your head coach, doing everything you can to make sure you do your best to win that job. Yeah, I hope so.
Ocho Cinco
Sorry, what I don't get though, look, I believe you could have got the same I believe you could have got the same results bringing a guy in there and says hey I'm gonna give you an equal opportunity to compete with this job. And paid him 5 million. Oh as the bro as opposed to bringing Daniel Jones in there and paying him 14 million because you got an expensive ass backup if he doesn't win this job.
Shannon Sharpe
That's the agent. The agent worked his magic. The agent worked his mag. The agent got it, got, got it got in that money. I think it was anywhere else, he wouldn't have got no 14 million for. To be no backup.
Ocho Cinco
No.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
And plus, and plus, Ocho, I'm gonna give you an opportunity to compete for a starting job. Ain't a whole lot of places were gonna give him an opportunity to compete for a starting job. So this is. I mean, and I get it. I would have went there also. 14 million and a legitimate opportunity to compete for a job.
Shannon Sharpe
Most definitely. Most definitely.
Ocho Cinco
Can't complain about that. But you're absolutely right. Anthony Richardson, he needs to stay healthy. Hopefully he's learned from some of the mistakes that he's made over his first two years and through that process, maturity and just understanding what it takes to be a professional quarterback. Hopefully he's able to turn the corner.
Shannon Sharpe
You don't have a choice but to turn the corner. You know, a third. You know what a third year means, right?
Ocho Cinco
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
That should make it a break a year. That's when teams make a decision, you know, what are you our future or are you not, or do we need to keep looking for someone at that position?
Ocho Cinco
Well, third year. Guess what they normally do with quarterbacks when they play well, they normally reward them after the third year.
Shannon Sharpe
This is this year.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah. So, yeah, I. Look, he has a, you know, he's. He's saying all the right things. You know, hey, I gotta, you know, I gotta eat a certain way. I gotta cut the candy out, Ocho. I gotta eat like a professional. I have to do things like a professional. I have to study. I gotta be the first one in. He's saying all the right things. Now. It's a matter of doing all that. Lines up. You say this, you do this, and. Cause they look, you look at that team offensively, they got a good team, mocho. They really do. When you look at their skill position players, you look at their running back, they got a solid offensive line. They got a nice defensive line. They got a good day.
Shannon Sharpe
They surely do.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah, they got some good players. But I just. They, they. The last couple years, they've been held back by the quarterback. There's no other way around it. And. And we're not taking no shots at him. We're not beating nobody down. It's. It's just, just. It's just the facts that their quarterback play has been insufficient, inadequate, not up to par. And when you got. And when you got those, you got Jonathan Taylor and you got Michael Pittman Jr. Pittman Jr. And you got Pierce and you got all those guys. No, bro. And downs, What's. What's the other guy, is it?
Shannon Sharpe
McMillan.
Ocho Cinco
No, no, no, no, no, no. They got Pierce Pittman Jr. And they got another guy.
Shannon Sharpe
I think he wear number 10, if I'm not mistaken.
Ocho Cinco
I might.
Shannon Sharpe
I might. Might be saying his last name.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, A.D. mitchell. Mitchell. That's what it is. That's about McMillan. Mitchell. Hey, 80 Mitchell.
Ocho Cinco
Hey, he downs. Josh downs. Yeah. Oh, they got. Oh, they got some. They got some. They got some Skill position players.
Shannon Sharpe
80 Mitchell gonna be nice, boy.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah, defensively, that front seven, they really good. Now the back end, hey, y' all need to tighten up a little bit. But, hey, they got a nice front seven. The quarterback play need to match that.
Shannon Sharpe
That's it.
Ocho Cinco
When you've accumulated that kind of talent. Because guess what, Ocho, you like to think. And that's what teams do. They try to, hey, let's mortgage this thing. We gotta. You see what Houston, the Texans are doing? They're like, we got the quarterback on the rookie contract. Because that next contract, it's going to be kind of hard to be able to keep all these pieces around said individual player. Even if he gives you a discount, he gonna give you no hundred million dollar discount.
Shannon Sharpe
Absolutely not.
Ocho Cinco
So it's gonna. It's gonna be. It's gonna be incumbent on Anthony Richardson to do better, to play better. We got. Look, he got drafted on potential. That's what it was. He was basically a 50% quarterback in college. He was a 50% quarterback in high school. He's been a 50% quarterback. But the tools that he. I mean, oh, he's six, five. He's 245. He ran four. Four. He could throw the ball 80 yards, throw the ball 50 yards on one knee, all that side. But that's. This is not the football Olympics.
Shannon Sharpe
Put it together.
Ocho Cinco
You need precision, you need touch. You need understanding. You need the ability to process information, decipher that information, and then the ball needs to be gone to the right player in the right position.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
I don't think you and I breaking. We're not breaking news to anybody. You watch the game. You know, his play needs to get better in order for them to be the type of team that the Colts want to be. He's got the Ocho. He's got to vastly improve. We ain't talking about no marginal improvement. We're talking about vastly improved.
Shannon Sharpe
Huge jumps.
Ocho Cinco
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
Huge jump.
Ocho Cinco
He's got to. And look. And it's. It's gonna be. Look, it's gonna be a. The owner, Jim Ursay, passed away. His daughters are Running the team now. So you know they're gonna have that. You know they're gonna be play. I'm sure Shane Steichen, who's the head coach, is telling them, hey, we gotta play for something. You know, Mr. Ursay, this season is dedicated to him and X, Y, and Z, and rightfully so. But Mr. Richardson, bro, you got to perform.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
They're paying you. Hey, they took you. They took a chance. And that's the only thing. Oh, you see, you're the man. I want the sure thing. It's things like this that gets you fired. Because the last thing I want to be doing is taking a quarterback three years ago, and I'm right back in the draft. I taking a quarterback again. I supposed to be trying to find. I supposed to be trying to fill in. Ocho. I buy a house, Ocho. I ain't trying to buy a house in three years. I'm just adding pieces. I'm adding some. Some pool furniture. I'm adding some furniture by the food. Maybe. Maybe I get a end table, something like that. Ocho, I ain't really a whole new house.
Shannon Sharpe
That's a. That's a good one. That's a good. That's a good analogy. I like that.
Ocho Cinco
And so that's, that's. That's Anthony Richardson. He's got to improve to the point that they just add pieces around him. You don't want to be the. Repeat the. The piece that gets replaced.
Shannon Sharpe
It's not a good thing.
Ocho Cinco
First, first, first, first, first. Ocho this weekend.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
It's unbelievable.
Shannon Sharpe
Tell everybody. Tell everybody. Take your time now. Take your time.
Ocho Cinco
Obviously, I went through this. I experienced this 14 years ago in 2011, and it was unbelievable. I mean, it was a great honor. But this one topped it. Yes, sir, this one topped it because of the significance of it. What my brother meant to me and Ocho, to be in that Nitschke luncheon on Friday and hear Rod Woodson and hear Nias Williams and hear Darrell Green and some of the. The defensive players, be it Richard Dent and a Johnny Randall. Say, man, this was long overdue for your brother to hear. To hear them say that, because they're. I already knew it. You're preaching to the choir. Yeah, I sing up here every Sunday, so you. I. I ain't new to the. I. I ain't in the con. I ain't new to the congregation. I'm here. I'm backing you up every week. So I know what he is. I know what he was. And to, To. To see him finally get that recognition. And to my mom, you know, there'll be other moms that have sons in the Pro Football hall of Fame, but they won't be first. To have my sister and my coach who coach both of us coach my entire family. My kids there, my sister in law and my niece Susan and Summer there. To, to, to witness that and to experience that Ocho man, look here.
Shannon Sharpe
And that's a great feeling.
Ocho Cinco
Boy, man, Ocho man, I can't. It's, it's hard for me to describe Ocho.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
And, and I knew I would be emotional even though I had already, you know, I was his presenter and I had already done my part via video. So I had did that a couple of weeks before. And so I thought. But the more he talked, the more he talked. And when he says, I only have a couple of minutes left, but the last couple of minutes, I won't, I won't. I want you, you got to come up here.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, yeah.
Ocho Cinco
When he called and when he called me to the stage and I had no idea what he was going to say, he, you know, he didn't write anything down. He was the only one that didn't have notes. He didn't have anything. He said, I'm just gonna speak from the heart. Yeah, that's how, you know, that's pretty much how he does all this speaking. And to hear him say that everything he did was for an audience of one. He didn't care what you wrote about him. He didn't care what you said about him. None of that mattered because the only person that he wanted to impress was me. Everything that he did was because of me. And to hear him says, you know, you know, you can't leave without, without, without following. And to hear him, because it's almost like I'm, like is replaying the very, the very words and how I felt about him.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Ocho Cinco
How I feel about him. And to hear him say that and to know the relationship that he and I have. And I think people got an opportunity to see that on full display even on Friday night at the gold jacket presentation. When you walk the gauntlet, you go through all the hall of Famers, and we had almost a record show. We had 111 members back now, mind you, of 382. My brother is the 382nd member of the Pro Football hall of Fame. And if I'm not mistaken, I think there are 181 living members.
Shannon Sharpe
Right?
Ocho Cinco
Okay, so that means they're over. There are 200, 201 that are no longer with us.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
Talking to Bobby Bell this morning, getting on the plane. He's 115. There's only six with a lower number than him that's still remaining. So. And then, you know, you know, seeing all that. But to be there and to experience it. Ocho.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
My brother's really not an emotional guy. Like I said, I think I've only a handful of times. And like he said, when. When papa died, he didn't cry. When. When. When. When dad. When daddy died, he didn't cry. When granny passed, he didn't cry. But to be in his presence and to know what this moment meant to him.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Ocho Cinco
My brother don't let a whole lot of things bother him.
Shannon Sharpe
And.
Ocho Cinco
And. And. And. But to be around him, Ocho, because I know him better than anybody.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
I know him better than anybody. I know what this moment meant to him. I know what he felt. My sister said, hell, I thought he was gonna pick you up off the floor at the gold jacket ceremony. I said, yeah, and throw his back out in the process. But, Ocho, man, to see how he was walking around and to see the. The. The. The love and the kudos that he was getting from those other gold jacket wares and the members and at his party and. And to have the bust and to have his family, because we don't get. We don't. Like I said, Ocho, we don't get together much. And. And I said, we, bro. We got to do a better job of that.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
I say, look, when you really cut it down to. I say us is me, you, mama and Libby, my kids, you know, Susan and somebody said, we got to do a better job, bro. Right? We got to do a better job. I said, you know, theoretically, mom could still outlive us long, but come on, we can do a better job than what we've been doing. But, Ocho, that was. That was the crown achievement. There ain't nothing topping that. Ain't nothing topping that, Ocho, because there. There. There's. There's. If you play a sport to go into your sports heaven, and that's what the hall of fame is.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes, sir.
Ocho Cinco
Be it baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, swimming, rock and roll hall of fame, if you go into your professions heaven, that's what the hall of fame is when you get there. Okay?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
Now, that's it. That's it. And, man, I cried. I've been up all night. The. The love and the respect that was shown to my brother, man, Ocho.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. I already. Listen, you. I. Boy, I already know. I already know.
Ocho Cinco
Jordan posted so much stuff. I'm like, well, damn. I'm looking at my feed and I'm like, well, damn, did you go to sleep?
Shannon Sharpe
You posted in the middle of the night.
Ocho Cinco
I could never. Every time, collab, collab, post, post, post. I'm like, well, damn.
Shannon Sharpe
Speaking of, listen, somebody sent me something. They didn't have your information. You saw this photo gallery I sent you?
Ocho Cinco
Uh, you just sent me something.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, man, no, this was a few days ago, remember?
Ocho Cinco
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I do. Yeah. They ain't had your information. Shoot, they sent me the whole photo gallery.
Ocho Cinco
Oh, man, it's. It's that moment, bro. And, you know, riding in the parade and everybody. Cause it was the Packers. The packers traveled really well. And to see some of his teammates, because I don' know if you noticed Ocho, when he sat down with me. I didn't know this at the time. I didn't. I didn't know. He never shared this. And so he. What he said on. On the pod was the first time that when he had his neck surgery, no one called him. Not a teammate, not a coach, not a front office. We call hell. Getting him to accept them doing this party. Right? I said, because what I told him, I said, now, you have to understand, the people that's in place now are in place then, right? I said, now, I'm not saying that your anger isn't warranted. I said, but in this situation, it's misplaced, right? The people that you should be upset with, they weren't there.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, they long gone.
Ocho Cinco
They. They. They were there. And I didn't know. Like I said, Ocho, I didn't know that. I did. Ocho, the man, there's a chance that he could have been paralyzed. Yes, sir, from neck down. He could have been a quadriplegic. Now, mind you, he's. Last season, he still has tied for the third most receiving touchdowns in a single season, and he never played another season. So he goes under the knife and not. Not. Just imagine, Ocho, you go through a surgery that you could be paralyzed or worse. The owner, a coach, a teammate. Not even TJ Not Carson, not the general manager, not your head coach, not even you, Jack. No one calls you and checks on you.
Shannon Sharpe
Shit. What? Listen, that is it that tells you all you need to. All you need to know, though. You hear me? So think about the people you just named. Think about the people you just named. Nothing is even wrong with me and everybody you just name. I talk to at least three. Three times a month, mind you. I have. I am of no value to Marvin Lewis, right. More I'm of no value to Hugh Jackson anymore. Hell, TJ, me and TJ, we in a group chat with about 20 bangles. So that's. That's a constant. A constant, you know, form of communication. But that. That would hurt so bad.
Ocho Cinco
It did.
Shannon Sharpe
Bothering the people that I went to war with, the people that I'm playing for. Not giving me a call with. With the extent of my injury, with a chance I could be paralyzed and I can't play ball anymore. And nobody reached out. Not a flower, not a card. I'm smart. Damn. I'm sorry.
Ocho Cinco
But so I think that. That. That bothered him the most.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
And he still. I was like, bro, you know, and he's. He's finally like. Like letting it go, right? Because my. My brother, you know, he. You know, he. He's. He don't hit you over the head with it, but carries his Bible. He goes to church. He reads the scripture. So he's. And so he's learned, Ocho, that I. I've got to let this go. He says, I can't be what I'm proclaiming to be if I still have this in my heart.
Shannon Sharpe
Yes, sir.
Ocho Cinco
And so. But it was. It was tough for him. I'm number. I'm member 267. He's member 382, I think they said over 30,000 men have played this game, coached this game, owned the team, been a general manager. 30,000, 382 men have a gold jacket. They sent over 300. What is it? 300 million men have played the game of football. Let that sink in on your 300 million.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, yeah.
Ocho Cinco
So my mom. My mom's like, I got two boys talking about, I probably need to scan. I might have another son out there somewhere. I said, you don't. You don't. You ain't got another son, you ain't got another daughter. I promise you. This is all. This is all you got? Yeah, you got what you got, Daddy? Hey, you told Daddy shot was closed after me. You say, hey. When they ask you, they say, papa ask you say, well, Alice, what you want? Dad? I don't give a damn if it's a lizard, I'm done. So you got what you got, Mama. That's it. But she was happy. My father, my coach, Coach hall, like I said, you know, he was there, coached all my uncles. My uncle started. Started. Started graduating high school in 1966. 1966. I graduated 86.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
He talked for 50 years. And having him there. But, Ocho, I. I don't know if you saw this. I know you couldn't pick it up, but at the gold jacket ceremony, what they did, they started doing. I don't know when they started it. This is my first time back since 2019. Is that. Obviously you walk the gauntlet, you know, so you have four guys, Two walk this way, two guys walk that way. And you got all the hall of fames, and they give, hey, congratulations, welcome to the fraternity, welcome to the brotherhood. Then you get up on stage, and then I was really the only presenter that was actually there.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Ocho Cinco
Dean Spanos, who presented. No, his dad. His dad was. Yeah, his dad was there. I think his dad was there. Jared Allen's dad was there. Put the coat on him. Marcus put the code on Eric Allen. And then lt Ladan and Thomason put it on Gates. Antonio Gates. But anyway, and so, you know, they come up, they bring your family out, they break. Let your kid, your wife come up, your kids come up, your mom, X, Y, and Z. So Jared Allen.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, Family.
Ocho Cinco
Jared Allen, families. Comes up there, and everybody. He's excited. You know, his wife is excited. The girls come running to him. I think one of the. One of his daughters had on cowboy boots. So these cowboys. But anyway, you know, he got his signature, his signature move. Ocho. You know what he do? He calf rope. He go down on one knee.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
Hit the cab, tied up and.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
Wah, wah.
Shannon Sharpe
Huh?
Ocho Cinco
He go down on one knee, calf rope, that thing.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
Split his pants. So where I am, I can see, right. I think he ripped his pants right from the back of his knee all the way up to the top of his belt. Yeah. So now they got to rush over again. They got to rush over. Cause the hotel is really close by where they were staying. They got to rush over, get a police escort, and get him a pair of pants.
Shannon Sharpe
Cause, you know, hey, that's funny. That's funny.
Ocho Cinco
There's a clip out there. And I know we didn't get a chance to vet it, and we don't know who it belongs to, but there's a clip out there, and you can see him. He grabbed the back. He grabs. At first I thought he had tweet. I said, damn, you tweaked your hamstring. You don't do no. You know. But then as he started to move, I was like, nah, bro, you ripped him. And he really did. But it was great. Just like I said, I know Gates. G. G. My guy like a little brother to me. And to see. Played against Eric Allen. I played against EA and in. In Philly and when he was at the Raiders because he was chasing me in the end zone and. Who else? Jared Allen. Jared retired. He came to Kansas City the year I retired and E.A. gates. That was it. No. Who else? Oh, yeah, my. Obviously played against my brother twice, but. Oh. Oh, Joe, it was. It was unbelievable. They're doing so much. They're. They're building it up now. They're trying to do more for the. The players that are in the hall of Fame.
Shannon Sharpe
Right.
Ocho Cinco
But it's a. It's an unbelievable. It's an unbelievable experience. And.
Shannon Sharpe
That'S dope. That's loud.
Ocho Cinco
I don't know what I did to deserve all this, what you've done for my family, but I appreciate it. The biggest news of the day, Ocho. The Browns have released their death card. Doe Flacco, I told you. QB 1. Kenny Pickett 2. Dylan Gabriel 3. Shador Sanders 5. Excuse me, 4. But they did bring in because two of the four quarterbacks are injured. Hamstring Kenny Pickett and Dylan Gabriel. And a few hours ago, this is what Adam Schefter tweeted. The Browns are signing Tyler Snoop Huntley, who spent part of last season with Cleveland. With Kenny Pickett, Dylan Gabriel nursing hamstring injuries and Shador Sanders having a sore shoulder, the Browns need another arm. Enter Huntley. Yes, sir.
Shannon Sharpe
Talk to me.
Ocho Cinco
What are the Browns?
Shannon Sharpe
I don't know what they're doing. We don't know what they've done the last 35.
Ocho Cinco
Do they know? Are we sure they know what they're doing?
Shannon Sharpe
Have they known what they're doing since that franchise has been established? Have they figured it out yet? Because the last good quarterback. No disrespect to the quarterbacks that have played for the Cleveland Brown. The last one that has been of decency has been Bernie Kozar, if I'm not mistaken.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah, that's in mid-80s, though.
Shannon Sharpe
There you go. There you go. That's no disrespect to any of the quarterbacks that have played there, but it is what it is. We talk about consistency. Have we had one for a decade that we've been able to lean on?
Ocho Cinco
No build around. You had a couple years. You got a couple of years of Baker, but outside of that, no.
Shannon Sharpe
No disrespect. Come on now. Come on now. So how do. How do we.
Ocho Cinco
That's the problem, that you have to.
Shannon Sharpe
Trust this organization when it comes to Choosing quarterbacks at a position when they haven't figured it out all these years, all of a sudden, now they got all the. Excuse me. Now they got all the sense. They're supposed to have all the sense. Now the depth chart to me, I'm let you go. The depth chart to me doesn't mean anything. We know Joe Flaccorn would do when the lights come on. Kenny Pickett had his opportunity when he was drafted to the Steelers, so we've seen a sample size of that already. I mean no disrespect to him. He's not the answer. Dylan Gabriel has success at Oregon when the lights come on. But it's a different ball game in the NFL with them grown men that got mouths to feed. Everyone should get an ample chance to win their starting position. We already know who quarterback money is going to be. We know who that's going to be. The depth chart doesn't mean anything. What they trying to do is they trying to break Young Bull. They trying to break him, huh? That's all it is. From the draft process to getting drafted in the fifth round to the owner coming out and saying what he said last week to now, man, come on with that bull drive, man.
Ocho Cinco
I don't see how Kenny Pickett still remains number two. He hadn't practiced since the 26th of July, if I'm not mistaken. So he's been dealing with a hamstring injury. But when you go out and sign somebody in free agency, I mean, I guess that does tell you they do think highly of him because they signed him. Dylan Gabriel, he's dealing with a hamstring. I guess the worst thing that happened is that we could have found out because had both of those guys been injured, we head into the first preseason game and only Flacco and Shador is healthy. Now it remains to see. To be seen how much Joe Flacco is going to play. If he plays. I'm thinking maybe a series. Ocho, that's top. Let's. Let's be generous and say a series. Now, that was going to be Shador opportunity to basically take us home. We saw Trey Lance. Trey Lance started the game and played what, deep into the fourth quarter? Hell, he might have finished the game. With that being said, the worst thing that could possibly happen happened for the Browns is that the two quarterbacks that you're probably counting on, they both got hurt most definitely, and they got hurt early. Now we'll see how soon it remains to be seen. I think I said last night they played Thursday they played Thursday or Friday. Is it Friday? Okay, they play Friday. They play Friday.
Shannon Sharpe
Three more days. I'm excited.
Ocho Cinco
Is Shador gonna play?
Shannon Sharpe
Yes. Unki doesn't have a choice. This is part of his resume.
Ocho Cinco
But if it showed. But, but, but, but what if he had. I mean. I mean, clearly they don't feel that confident because if they thought Shador was going to be able to go, would they have brought a fifth quarterback in?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, they had to bring. They had to bring somebody else in because Kenny Pickett's probably not going to play, especially with a hamstring injury. The game is.
Ocho Cinco
I don't think either one. I don't think two and three is gonna play.
Shannon Sharpe
So definitely, definitely he gonna play. Listen, the eye in the sky doesn't lie, and they need Shador to put what he can on tape. They need. What are we going to get? What did we draft? All the work we put in. Obviously, going against offense and defense in practice, that don't mean nothing.
Ocho Cinco
Well, you don't expect to get oo. How long you expect the $500 car to last? Think about where they drafted him now. Now, clearly, they ain't putting a whole lot of resources behind it.
Shannon Sharpe
No.
Ocho Cinco
So they're not. Let's. You know what, Ocho? You know what we do here on Nightcap?
Shannon Sharpe
We go talk to me. Now.
Ocho Cinco
Chad, you know, when you go by what we used to call when I was growing up, we call it secondhand. When you go buy something secondhand and you spend $500 or you spend $1,000 and as is no warranty, you're not expecting. Okay, hopefully get me from point A to point B. They drafted Shador in the fifth round. They're not expecting much of Shador. They didn't, because if they thought that much of him, they'd have drafted him higher. If they thought that much of him, they would have given him a fair opportunity. But that's not what they've done. And I'm like, look, that's their organization. They run it how they see fit. But I don't know. In people in Cleveland, I don't know how you would still have trust in this organization considering how many quarterbacks. And every quarterback, they say, oh, he's franchise. He's franchise. You said that with Derek Anderson, and you said that after. Before him. And you said that after him, Baker got injured and you moved on from him. Now, Baker didn't have the weapons that he has in Tampa. I don't think Baker's like, oh, my God. God damn. Wish I Could have stayed in Cleveland. The weather's a lot nicer in Tampa, and there's no state income tax. And he had a great support system around him. With all that being said, I don't think. I don't think it's much to like. Boy, maybe they bet against him.
Shannon Sharpe
Listen, it happens all the time.
Ocho Cinco
I don't want to. If I. If should. How does that make me look? If Shador looks well. Oh, Joe, wait.
Shannon Sharpe
He gonna. He. Excuse me. The adversity and the obstacles that young bull has had to over endure in general, he's been. He's been prepped for this. He's been prepped for this. Oh, they're against me. Since he got drafted, when he dropped in the fifth round, he already knew what time it was. When your opportunity gets there, when you get your opportunity, you have no choice but to shine. You have no choice. They're betting against him not to do well, right?
Ocho Cinco
But if you want me to win the race, Ocho, you got to put me on a fairbread like everybody else. You can't give me a Clydesdale and say, go win this race. If he. Let me ask you this. When he is in the game, is he gonna get the first team offensive line? Cause that's what. When they want to. When they want to give you a serious look. Ooh. You and I both played this game for a long period of time. When they want to give Guy, when they want to give a receiver a serious look, they let him run with the ones. They don't continually see what he can do with the twos and threes, they give him a fair opportunity with the ones. The number one quarterback, the number one offensive front line, and the other one receivers on the opposite side of him. Quarterbacks, when they are running backs, when they really want to see what you can do, they let you run with the 1. The number 1 O line. And normally when they pull the offensive line out, guess who else coming out? Quarterback. Because the quarterback, the starting quarterback, is not going to be in there with the twos and threes. The starting running back is not going to be in there with the twos and threes. So I'm going to be very interesting to see. It is the first preseason game, and given the way the preseason is done now, starters don't normally play. They don't normally play, and they don't play much. So Shador is going to have to make. Shador is going to have to make wine with the water that he. The well water that he's been.
Shannon Sharpe
He's going to be all right.
Ocho Cinco
He's not been given purified water. He's not been given bottled water. So he's going to have to make do with what he has.
Shannon Sharpe
This is the good thing, though. The cars that he's dealt on Friday night, when he enters that game, regardless of what's surrounding him, he's going to make something happen. When he does make something happen, when he's able to make something out of nothing. And this is no disrespect to the twos and the threes and the fours that are trying to make that team. Everybody out there vying for a job for sure.
Ocho Cinco
But you and I both know there are only about five jobs up to grab. They know. They know with it. They know within 40 guys, 41 guys who's gonna be on that rock. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, listen, they. They don't know. They don't know yet because what they're planning on and what they're trying to do, whatever it may be, when he gets his opportunity, all they got to do is knock the door down. I don't care what you put around me, I'm going to show you. I'm going to get the job done. So imagine if I can. If I can get out there and cut up on Friday with threes and fours and twos at my helm, what you think will happen when I got the ones, which ain't going to happen when I got. When I got Judy, huh? And Joku and the rest of the boys at my disposal as my weaponry. If I can do this with my threes and fours and twos out here in a preseason game, all he's done all his life is win, huh? That's all he's done. So now you put me in this. In this situation, A little obstacle, a little adversity. All right, I got this. I've been here before. I got this.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah, I agree with Joe Choke. I mean, he's never had a situation like this. You don't know what you can overcome until you're faced with it.
Shannon Sharpe
God, talk it, man, with my pen. Oh, that's a good one. Let me write that down.
Ocho Cinco
Because strength is fast.
Shannon Sharpe
Now, I gotta write that down. I'm gonna put that in my notes. Hold on.
Ocho Cinco
Because Ocho hair is the thing. See, strength is not what you possess. Strength is overcoming something that you didn't think you could see a lot of people thinking, well, I can lift this or I can do that. That is not strength. Strength is overcoming something you didn't think you could. He's Never been in this situation before. He's been the best. And now he's going to have to that strength that his father has instilled him. His father is very biblical. His father is very into the church, is into the word. All those words that his father has been preaching to him for a lifetime. It will be put to the test. Say like when the devil told judge, yeah, of course, God, he's gonna serve you. You give him everything. Look at the family, look at the livestock that you have. Look at what you blessed him with. Why would he not serve you? Remove the hedge and he'll curse his very maker. Shador has had abundance of everything. He had a dad that had the resources to get him that opportunity to go learn and study under Tom Brady, to get him throwing coaches and to put him in the best situations. Now, you can recall, you can call on that the recall what Tom said this and this guy said that and do this, do that. But at the end of the day when you fall on your knees now, because see, that's what faith is, is believing. Even though you can't see it. You see, man says, show me and I'll trust you. God says, trust me and I'll show you. You see the difference between the two?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ocho Cinco
Shador is going to have to rely on his faith because at this time, that's all he has. And I'm not so sure that he's not the only one that has it because I'm not so sure the people in that building have faith in him.
Shannon Sharpe
But you can't listen the people in the building, you ain't got to worry about that. You don't have to worry about that in the. At the end of the day, if they don't want you, if they don't want you. Let me, let me put on film. Let me film.
Ocho Cinco
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
You got this is what you got to do. At the end of the day, regardless of what they do, regardless of where I am on the depth chart, I have a job to do and I'm going to do it to the best of my ability. Regardless of what you put out there on the field with me on Friday, at the end of the day, it's still football. We've been all been playing football since.
Ocho Cinco
Cream arrives to the top man, you.
Shannon Sharpe
Just took the words right out my mouth.
Ocho Cinco
I've been in Shador. See, I was Shador Sanders before Shador Sanders just had a different position. I know what it's like. I went to a team that just Went to the Super Bowl. Although they got drubbed. They brought every receiver back. Mark Jackson, Vance Johnson, Ricky Natiel, Michael Young. They only keeping five receivers. And four of the guys that went to the super bowl are back. They're back.
Shannon Sharpe
He gonna be all right.
Ocho Cinco
So we got. They bring in four or five other receivers. Shannon Sharp's a seventh. Is a seventh rounder. I know that. But I'm a. I'm supposed to be a camp body. But what you expect out of me and what I expect out of me are two different things. I don't let you set my agenda. I don't let you set my expectation. I. I see you. That's. And that's how Shador has to think. I know what y'. All. I know what y' all playing. I know. Hey, in life, when. When Ray told Claude, he say, I know you're thinking something. You got something up your sleeve. I know you got something brewing. I ain't got nothing, Ray. I got an ass cutting for your brewing. Shador just needs to be Shador. He doesn't have to be any. He doesn't have to be anything else other than that. And. And that's good enough. His best is good enough. He doesn't have to be extraordinary. This is now the NFL. It is the league. You remember that movie, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. There are a lot of extraordinary gentlemen in this league.
Shannon Sharpe
A lot of them.
Ocho Cinco
But that ain't what he has to beat out.
Shannon Sharpe
And that's. That's no disrespect to them. Let's just. Let's be realistic.
Ocho Cinco
They take it how they want to. I'm just saying. Joe Clacko is in year 18, and he's way past his prime. Kenny Pickett. Hey, we'll see. He's hurt. Can't make the club in the tub. Dylan. Gabriel, he's hurt.
Shannon Sharpe
I'm telling you what's gonna happen. Hey, one thing about it. One thing, one. One thing about the football guys. You hear me? One thing about the football gods. When they know. When they know. Especially if it's funny business going on, the way they moving cream always right at the top, huh? That's it. I don't care what you put around me. I'm gonna make it work. I'm gonna get to do. Listen, when you go. When you go to the casino and they dig you, them goddamn cars, you can't control what you dealt.
Ocho Cinco
Gotta play the hand you dealt.
Shannon Sharpe
Gotta play the hand you dealt with. You got to play it to the best of your ability. That's it. That's all you got to do. Go out there with just straight, straight confidence. This is my team. You got to walk it. You got to play like it. You got to walk in that stadium like you own it. You got to walk. You got to. Oh, I see the game y' all playing. Okay, bet. Let me show you something.
Ocho Cinco
Yeah. And it's not easy because I don't want people to think that. Oh, he. You never. Yes. Yes. There were nights that I would go to bed, and I'm asking myself, am I good enough? I mean, I only got three plays, and I ain't catch a pass. So if I'm a receiver, how am I getting judged?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco
By everything else to do as a quarterback, he don't get no reps. How is he getting judged? Okay, I. I caught one. I called it. I called it. And it's like, man, is it. Man, I had this great career at Glenville. I had a great career at Savannah State, and now I'm here in my mind. I'm. What person doesn't think that he's better than some of the people that he's going against? It wasn't like I was. I wasn't going against hall of Fame receivers. It wasn't Jerry. I wasn't. It wasn't Jerry Rice and my brother and Chris Carter and all those guys out there. That was how I was going to have to try to win time from. But, look, it gave me confidence that John Elway told me I could play in this league. He thought I had the ability to play. It helped me a lot when Mark Jackson would legitimately tell me what I needed to do. But, yeah, I'm fighting for a job, and we fighting for a job, and the guy told me the wrong route. I didn't know it was the wrong route. I went in there and ran it. Dan Reed chewed my ass off.
Shannon Sharpe
You doing full speed, though.
Ocho Cinco
Hey, ask me what the hell. I'm running the route. Hey, I'm swole. I just knew I read the right route. Hey, nice move. A nice slap. Armor rib that tried to. You know what I'm saying, Ocho. Hey, I hit it right quick. Cause, you know, back then, if you spend too much time dancing in the line of scrimmage, they're gonna come up through your face mask. So, hey, plant chop. I'm over. He blowing the whistle up like, damn, I ain't about halfway through my route. Don't you. What are you blowing the whistle for? Let me get this rock and do something on it. Shannon Sharp what the hell are you doing? You know me, old smart. I'm thinking to myself, what the hell it look like. I do it running this route. What you got on such and such. I think I thought I got. What can I say? Somebody told me the wrong route. You supposed to know what the hell you supposed to do anyway.
Shannon Sharpe
That's. That's. Hey.
Ocho Cinco
If you cut. Throw babies, bro, I'm trying to get a job.
Shannon Sharpe
Absolutely.
Ocho Cinco
And if I. If I can remove you out of the way to make my opportunity to get this job easier, guess what I'm going to do? I am going to remove you. Called removing the competition. We know it. We hear all about the. The drug, what they try to do. Take over somebody territory. You try to expand the territory. It doesn't matter how. I just need to expand. I need to make sure. So he's trying to remove me. I run the wrong route. Hey, let me. Hey. Never ask again. But you know what? And Mayor Porter used to say, God don't like ugly. Sometimes he don't like pretty. Guess who won the first one to get cut.
Shannon Sharpe
Buddy told you the wrong route. Yeah. Hey, listen, one thing about it, boy, you can't deny greatness. Boy, you can't.
Ocho Cinco
It was.
Shannon Sharpe
You can't deny greatness.
Ocho Cinco
You know, it was meant for me to go there.
Shannon Sharpe
Remember when we got. When we got. When Shador got drafted? I said it's a blessing in disguise because they've both. They've always been. They've always had an issue at finding the answer at that position. Now watch. They try to play with him. I said watch, they try to play with him, and he ends up being the answer that they didn't even know they had. Watch, I guarantee. I guarantee you. And if I'm wrong, I put my foot in my mouth.
Ocho Cinco
If I'm wrong. Well, the thing is, he might be the answer, Ocho. And that was not even the test that they gave him. That's the problem that they're up against.
Shannon Sharpe
Wait a minute, man.
Ocho Cinco
We.
Shannon Sharpe
Man, bring that back one more time.
Ocho Cinco
That's it. You said he to be the answer. Yes, he might. He could well be the answer. And that's not the test that they gave him.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, what you preaching tonight?
Ocho Cinco
What God, what's for you? What's. What's for you? What's for you is for you. Can nobody stop it? If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. And God is God and good and in bad. And we just got it. We just. We understand that. We accept that. But. Yeah, he has a lot going on. Don't think his mind is not, hey, it's Pops. You know how close he is with his dad, his dad dealing with what he's dealing with. But his dad said, hey, you handle that. I got this. You handle that up there in Cleveland. You let me take care of this down here in Boulder.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, make the Browns great again. Mbga. Yeah, yeah, make the Browns great again.
