Exacto. We're back with another episode of Scenes and as Pablo says, he is intrigued, very intrigued to find out what happens as we continue our story. And this is basically a story which takes place in a local cafe, a charming local cafe somewhere in Spain, and we are following the little scenes that happen there of everyday life with the locals and with the regulars, with visitors and so on. Okay, let us read the chapter now and then we'll talk about all the interesting language therein.

Okay, so the phrase itself is a little complicated grammatically, but we'll get to that in a moment. E GE gado a casa. I got home cone lanimo un poco bajo. With my spirit a little low, feeling down a little poro TRA parte. Although on the other hand, debo recordar lo que siempre de siamadre. I need to remember what my mother always used to say. And de sia there. An imperfect tense is a really nice way to translate it with used to say, as my mother would say, or used to say, no hay mal que por jen no venga. It's a Spanish proverb, literally, there is no bad that by good doesn't come. It means the equivalent of every cloud has a silver lining when one door opens. When one door closes, another one opens somewhere. Let's find out more about why we are hearing this particular particular Spanish proverb.

From Esberda que enocaciones los cambios puedem pare cernos lo peor sobretodo cuando cetrata del fin de una relacion.

[Pablo]

So esberdad que. It's true that enocaciones sometimes los cambios pueden par eternos lo peor. The changes can seem to us to be the worst thing. Sobritodo cuando citrata. Above all, when it is about. When it concerns the end of a relationship, well, it means kind of covers all.

[Marco]

Latin America.

[Pablo]

So is a raincoat. I did not know that. So there you go. I'm learning new things today. Unsobretodo so it covers everything since something that you would put on. Okay, good. Okay.

[Marco]

Pero abeces el fin de una cosa significa el comienzo deotra.

[Pablo]

So very philosophical so far. But Sometimes el finde una cosa significa el comienzo de otra. It means, or it marks the beginning of another, the experience nuevas que stanai para nosotros of experiences that are kind of out there waiting for us.

[Marco]

Hoy estoy profunda porque escuchado una conversacion algo triste entredos clientes.

[Pablo]

Okay, so an explanation now for the philosophical approach that Izabel is taking. Oy, estoy profunda. Today I'm deep. I'm feeling reflective. Porque escutado una conversacion algo triste entre dos clientes. Because I heard quite a sad conversation entre dos clientes between two customers. Algo normally means something, but we can use it to mean somewhat also when we combine it with an adjective.

[Marco]

Primero haygado. Ella creo que vastante antes de la hora prevista. Por que hay sperado un rado largo.

[Pablo]

So primero. First of all, haigado idea. She arrived first, I believe, quite a bit before the expected time. Porque a esperado una rato largo. Because she waited for a long while.

[Marco]

Tenia cara de preocupacion y aveces seles capaba alguna la grima.

[Pablo]

Oh, dear. So. Tenia cara de preocupacion. She had a face of worry. She looked worried. And we can say teniaca to describe how someone's looking emotionally and at times they're escaped from her. So a tear would escape now and then. Okay, good. Let's continue. Is it chamomile tea? I love chamomile tea, so. I know, man. Don't get it mixed up with olive, though, because the manzanilla olas, I love them too. But I wouldn't mix the chamomile tea. I found some Gordal olives the other day. Oh, my. That's a totally different story. But I will say that it took me until I was about maybe 35, 40 to enjoy olives. So, you know, you're young. Okay. Anyway, she asked for a chamomile tea, and she didn't want to have anything else.

[Marco]

Media aora despues entro un chico que son rio alberla.

[Pablo]

Okay, so half an hour later. Media hora despues entrojun chico. A boy entered. Que sonrio alberla who smiled upon seeing her.

[Marco]

La saludo con unbeso carinoso A si que estava claro queja.

[Pablo]

Okay, so la saludo. He greeted her. Con un beso can carinhoso with a warm, affectionate kiss, so it was clear that they were a couple. So far, so good. Okay, so he was very happy. He was talking about the dj. Hablava del dj. The invitationes a sus amigos que sta ban fuera about invitations to friends who perhaps lived abroad, who were from Farawi.

[Marco]

Pero la expression, la cara de la chica no me daba buena spina.

[Pablo]

This is a nice idea. So, but the expression on the face of the girl, pero la expressione la cara de la chica no me daba buena espina. So literally wasn't giving me good spine. So unaispina. I think that's what a porcupine or a hedgehog would have spines.

[Marco]

The thorn of a rose or la espina de pescado.

[Pablo]

So that's like a fishbone. Okay, interesting. But in this idiom, it's basically saying that the expression on the face of the girl was giving me a bad feeling. I had a bad vibe about this.

[Marco]

Me a serque apreguntarle que que ria to mar y ex clamos or prendido alberque.

[Pablo]

Okay, Me a cerque apreguntarle. I approached to ask him, so she's already ordered her chamomile tea. He que que ria tomar what he wanted to have. Y exclamo soprendido alberque. It's a lovely grammatical phrase, but it's a bit sad. I was frozen. I was shocked aloir on hearing we've seen lots of al plus the infinitive. So I was frozen stiff when I heard ala tika pedirle que De jasa de hablar. When I heard the girl asking him to stop talking. Now, in English, we say asking him to stop doing something or asking her to start doing something or whatever it is. But in Spanish, we have to use this different construction. The chica. The chica. The girl asked him that he stop talking. Using the imperfect subjunctive. Yeah. So I was turned to stone. There's a word we use in English, petrified is a bit more fear rather than shock, I think, if someone's okay. And she says to him, estu esterio. This is serious.

[Marco]

She told him, aparentemente ella no estaba convencida. De nada.

[Pablo]

So apparently she wasn't convinced about anything. She had a. A total doubt about what was going to happen, I think. So she had taken the decision. There was no way back. There was no turning back. Oh, dear. So se iwa ira trabajar. She was going to go to work this year. A in this case, ir. So she was going off to work como voluntaria as a volunteer at Ethiopia. In Ethiopia, dorante, seis mesis for six months. And she didn't want to hear anything about him. Ni de la boda or about the wedding. Same. So here we've got durantes eis meses, literally during six months. Could we use another word there?

[Marco]

Se por susar, por por.

[Pablo]

But importantly, not para.

[Marco]

So we say in English, I'm going there for six months. So we've got two options in Spanish, por or durante. Wow. So she apologized, sediscul po ledecio suerte. She wished him luck. Y abondono el bar. And she left the bar. Yeah. It's not even just left the bar. She abandoned the bar. She stormed out. Well, she didn't storm out. She just left the bar. Okay.

Unos minutos despues el pago la cuenta y se fue.

[Pablo]

So a few minutes later, he paid the bill and he left. Now, like any scene in any bar, there's always okay, vamos al bolver a lier todo el capitulo. Yora espero que. Let's have a listen.
