A
There's one on here that is a little surprising. Drake May on the trending players. It went from our third most popular person scan to number two.
B
That probably gets lost on some people, but I have a feeling it takes a lot to make that happen.
A
It does. If you look at the top 10, there's like, Jordan is always in there. LeBron's in there. But, like, for a player like this to move that much up, it's just showing how aggressive people are buying his stuff. Talk to me about the Ohtani baseball dude.
B
There's no one on the planet doing what he's doing, and there's no one on the planet ever. This is Major League baseball. Baseball. That alone, three home runs in a game. It is unhuman. Welcome to the Trading Cards and Collectibles podcast on the Radcast Network. From chasing grails to calling bluffs, going inside the hobby. Are you ready to collect? Let's get at it. Here is your host, Ryan Alford. What's up, guys? Welcome to Trading Cards and Collectibles Powered by Ludx, here as always with my good friend, my co host, Brian Ludden. What's up, Brian?
A
What's up, my man? I know you've had a busy week moving offices, so we. We get to see a different background for you, but, yeah, things are good. You know, these weeks just run into weeks, and weeks run into months, and it's. It's just one big blur.
B
It is a blur right now. Got my.
A
This is.
B
You're seeing the temporary studio in the new space. We're arranging things, getting everything in order. I had to put one thing up just to have a little color. I got my rad. My old rad pillows. But then Jordan with a little color match and, you know, got acuna over here. And of course, if I need something to drink, I got my Lud X water bottle. But we'll be decorating. It is a little bit of a mess, but it's coming along. It's coming along.
A
That's awesome.
B
You got. You're in the cage. I mean, cage. The. The sports cage.
A
I like to mix it up a bit. You know, last week I was on. On. On in Texas. But this is our. This is our main conference room. So what we did is we threw like, Astroturf on the wall, and then the chain link fence is like the old baseball. So, yeah, so it's. We got some good character living the brand.
B
Brand. You know, the sports brand, the Astroturf. The. Got any ACL injury photos on the wall?
A
Not yet.
B
That they, they've got, they figured that out, obviously. The old Astroturf, like everyone seemed to like tear the ACL every other week. Was that like the 90s or late 80s?
A
Yeah. I don't think anyone's gonna be walking on these walls or running on the wall, baby.
B
Walking on the wall.
A
Walking on the wall.
B
How's Chi town this week?
A
That's good.
B
Man.
A
This is like, the weather's so nice in the fall. It's just, it's so nice. It's, you know, 60 degrees and it's. Yeah, I love this time of year. I think our nicest months are September, October, and then, you know, then we have to hunker down for the winter. But hopefully I can get to someplace warm a few times, maybe do some fishing. I don't golf. F golf. I'm terrible at it. But yeah. So hopefully we want to get out of the city in the. For four or five months and then. I love it.
B
Collectibles show is where you'll find all of the channels and learn more about what we're doing and ultimately, hey, we want to hear from you. You do Case hits at collectibles show wants you to send in your favorite pulls of the week. And here's the difference. This isn't about just value. Hey, we want to see some ten thousand dollar hits. Had a couple of those myself a few months back. But it's not just about the value. It's about what you're collecting, what means something to you. Share a story, share a video of you holding up the card that you hit last week that was your favorite player and you nailed it. So Case hitsollectables show, send in those videos. I want to know the stories. We're going to bring them to life here on the show. We're going to do a segment each week once we get rolling and get some videos in where we share that on the show with us. We want to feature you on collectibles show. I mean, a subtle jab, but, you know, you don't have to worry about, you know, postseason baseball or anything, you know, so.
A
Yeah, thank God. Yeah, thank God.
B
Yeah, I know I have no postseason baseball here in South Carolina, so I.
A
You know, our Bears are won four.
B
In a row, dude, I'm telling you. I mean, coaching matters. And I can't help but think, and there's a lot of dudes on that team. I mean, it's, it's a talented team. Caleb's playing good enough and coming along. He doesn't turn the ball Over. It's not always perfect. I thought he was going to be more accurate, but he's taking care of the ball and then everybody else is balling and I can't help but think there's. That coaching is playing a factor as well. Does it feel that way to you?
A
Yeah, I mean it's changing the culture and it takes a little time but unfortunately the Bears are in a hell of a division. I mean the Lions look tough as hell, the packers look great. So we'll see, man. But our last four games are like the last four games, three or four at home and it's the packers twice and the Lions, that's how we end the season. So we might have an inflated record for a bit. And then you're like, all right, dude.
B
So yeah, I know it's brutal and the packers are good and you know, you don't much. I don't, you know, necessarily care for them. I know a good team when I see it and it's. But as long as Caleb keeps playing well and his cards keep going up, I'll be just fine. I stated many times I hold many of the rookies from last year and I think no better time to get into our weekly movers powered by Ludx because there are. It's quarterback driven this week if my notes are correct. Right, Brian?
A
Yep, you are correct. There's one on here that is a little surprising but yeah, I'll let you decide. So Silver PRISM Drake may so is up 21% and on the trending players it went from our third most popular person scan to number two last week.
B
Is that number one. That takes significant move that probably gets lost on some people but I have a feeling it takes a lot to make that happen.
A
It does. Like it's, it's. It's pretty crazy when you go into it. Like, like if you look at the top 10, there's like Jordan is always in there, LeBron's in there. But like for a player like this to move that much up, it's just showing how, you know how aggressive people are buying his stuff. The second one is I think he's. He's one of the best quarterbacks to play. Matthew Stafford, he's up 43% so. And he went, he went from like 120 trending player to 62. But that surprises me a little.
B
Yeah, I mean he's playing well. I mean if you watch. I mean he, he picked apart my, my boys, you know, the Jaguars with Trevor Lawrence. I mean I don't know what's going on there. Let's focus on the positives of Matthew Stafford, Georgia boy dude's still got probably the top three arm in the league. I mean the dude, I mean ridiculous can throw it, you know, a hundred yards in the air but to touch and I almost think he was kind of a little bit of a hot. That hot head. I almost feel like he's at this perfect mellow point. Still has all the skill set as a quarterback. Hadn't, hadn't gotten hit a ton, you know, like some quarterbacks. So all the arm strength there, he's mellowed out. He's a good leader and dude can just sling the damn ball.
A
Yeah. Think about that trade. I mean he traded golf for Stafford and they both won.
B
Yeah, golf's. I mean call me crazy if he, he held this up he could be an all timer. I mean you know, like two guys that just improved on the move. It rarely happens. It usually, sometimes it never, it doesn't work either direction. But for both, you know, being high end quarterbacks and Matthew definitely in another category at the time of the trade and probably even now overall with the super bowl and everything like that. But I mean it is interesting to see him jump though because there hasn't. He's played well and they're winning but I don't know what necessarily know made that happen. Drake make makes a ton of sense and good for him and I keep going. I got a ton of him. I'm sinking through every card I got of his and like go baby, go. He's looked really good. I would have not. I did not think the Patriots would be quite as, I don't know good as they are so far. But I don't know. They're looking good.
A
Yeah. I want them to suffer a little bit.
B
Yeah, exactly. They need a little more downtime.
A
Yeah. And the last one, the last one should not surprise you. It's Daniel Jones. He went from, he's up 67% and then he went from 90 up to 40 on the trending players. I mean what he's doing there is amazing. But yeah, I mean there's probably like you said, there's probably people looking through their stuff and be like holy 2019. I wonder if I have any of these Daniel Jones.
B
How many Daniel Jones silvers had been pulled out of boxes that you know, it was probably a ten five dollar card like I don't know, two years ago maybe and now it's at 325 and the dude looks like a different player. I mean I, I Like a lot of these guys that get drafted the first round, you know the skill sets in there. They wouldn't have got a lot of smart people draft these guys. But you just. You sort of at a certain point throw the book it you just go I don't think it's going to happen for him. And he has done it like it. The Colts are loaded.
A
Yeah they got. I mean they are loaded and I think the quarterback position is. Is an interesting position because it's you know you come out, you're gunsling in. You have an ego, you have pride and you. And then also you realize that you're going to have to recommit yourself to learning football and how to play in the NFL and the good ones do and you know I root for guys like that. But here's an interesting if you comparison is the 2024 Panini Prizm Silver Drake May PSA10 sold for $930 Daniel Jones PSA10 same Pan Prism 325.
B
Yeah make make sense of that one. It here's you have. I think it's purely the holdover from maybe the overvalue of la. You know like the newest rookies like Drake May didn't have the three years to to level out four years to level out and and then to take a jump. You know so Daniel Jones did did you know rookie. He's probably. Probably his rookie year, you know probably had the normal jump and then just crap you know train wreck from there. Dumpster fire in New York and now he's doing the full rebound. But he could be. Look if let's just say they continued this on this would be fascinating to follow if he stayed. Let's say they're like 16 and 2 or I think they're 18 games like fe 15 and 3. Like let's just say they have best record in the league whatever that is super super high win total. Could it be a 900 car by the end of the year? I mean.
A
I mean I don't know. Yeah I mean the market they'll catch up quick man if he wins you know games I mean you know and they get to playoffs and they win that thing's going to go up. But I just think that dudes around.
B
Him that I think it's part of me was like because I almost bought several of these a couple weeks ago which I had now but I I still think it's a buy under 500 because I think they got the dudes. I don't think he has to necessarily play a 10 out of 10 every week for them to win. He doesn't turn the ball over. They got a lot of dudes, they got a running back, Taylor. I mean, lines of scrimmage are dominant. I mean, like, they got the guys that I think to support him, not necessarily having to play like a 10. And he keeps doing just remotely what he's doing. I think you're going to see five to 700 at least, probably years in.
A
Yeah, I agree. And it makes it interesting because there's people that, you know, their whole philosophy is trying to buy these guys, you know, cheap. Like my son, my son Nick does that. Like he'll start a season and buy five to eight people that have some upside. And you know, it's a whole new. It's a whole other way to. To enjoy this. This industry. This great industry.
B
Exactly. So, I mean, you can kind of blend the collecting with, with the, I don't know, entrepreneurial spirit. I think there's. As long as there's a blend, I think that's, you know, what I like to see.
A
I got a question for you. Yeah, tell me about, talk to me about the Otani baseball dude.
B
I mean, here's what I think first, like, let me talk like 70,000ft and then we'll come down to like ground floor. I don't think that we're making a big enough deal about it. Like, I mean, I get the. It's. They still got a lot to play for and like, you don't want to over celebrate. Like you want to appreciate the moment, but keep focus on like the playoffs and winning the championship team. I'm a team guy. But what he did in pit, like number one. There's no one on the planet doing what he's doing and there's no one on the planet ever. I don't, I mean, I get it. Yogi Bear, like these kids, whoever. I mean, that did both ways. Babe Ruth.
A
Yeah.
B
Like. Yeah, but still, still. So, okay, so two guys ever. I mean, and three home runs in modern era. And six what?
A
Scoreless.
B
One run inning. What was it like? Ridiculous.
A
It was a shutout. Six and two thirds. Struck out ten people.
B
Yeah.
A
And gave up two hits. But hit three home runs. I mean, baby has never done anything.
B
Never done that. Yeah. 10 strikeouts and three home runs and scoreless.
A
Yeah. I mean, that's like Little League.
B
Yeah.
A
Like, dude, that's happening. But it's happening at 13 years old, you know, like not in with the best players in the world.
B
Nash hit four home runs in his, like, whatever's right. Coaches pitch game four years ago and I knew what it was and what it was. He doesn't even play baseball anymore, so he retired. What it wasn't, you know, and he didn't hit it out of the park. I mean they were, they're grounders that ran, you know, or even really well hit balls. But not. It was just. You know what I'm saying. I know what that was and wasn't. This is major league baseball. It's major league pitching and hitting three home runs. That alone three home runs in a game in the playoffs that matter is unheard of. But then throwing in the pitch and it is unhuman like. And so again bringing it back to the ground floor, like it's just incredible. And I don't know that we can even really appreciate it at the level that it deserves.
A
Yeah, I agree and I let's like try to find a comparison in the NBA it'd be like Jordan scoring a hundred points in game seven. Like that's how like monumental. But then he also did something else like I don't know, he sold hot dogs or something like 100 points. Still doesn't bring me to the Otani level.
B
No. And Boja. That's why I love Bo Jackson and collect have a lot of his old cards. He was the closest Dom you know, played high level baseball but he wasn't Otanic like but and football like the two A athletes, the two sport athletes like that. I mean they don't even exist anymore. I mean it's why Travis Hunter like I respect him trying to do both. You know there's not anyone else in the league doing it like these, these one of one athletes like tho. Those are the ones that impressed me the most. Just both in the moment and then stepping back and appreciating it.
A
I should have brought some. I agree with that. I should have brought some metrics on sh and see what he. His stuff's doing. I mean his stuff is just like it's gone up so much of course but it started high. It's never really.
B
I'm saying it's never come down to like. Yeah, it's like the, the most steady trajectory of all time or for like your first what, eight years, 10 years in the league. Like I mean how long, how long has he been.
A
2018 I think was his rookie.
B
Yeah. Seven, eight years.
A
Yeah. So I mean he's like an annuity. It's just gone up like every year.
B
Yeah, exactly. The most. Yeah. The safest bet in, in. In trading Cards is. Is Otani. We should probably do that meter like sometime and be like, what are the. What's the last 10 years like, safest bet bets in. In sports cards.
A
Yeah, I'll do that for next week. I'll get some info on that.
B
I know what else is happening? You know, we've got the playoffs going on. We've got la. And that was a crazy game of the night with Seattle and the Blue Jays. Right.
A
I mean, yeah, I mean it was just one of those. It. I mean, this is what, October baseball. Why it's so fun and you could. I could watch a baseball game and enjoy it, which I don't in the regular season. But I mean, if you're a Seattle fan, man, like, oh God, that was a heart. That was a heartbreak.
B
You're up to the World Series and then to have it go like that. Yeah, yeah.
A
And the Dodgers are like, whatever, man.
B
Like what? It's inevitable. Like there's like inevitable. Like the Dodgers just look guaranteed. I don't know. But maybe we just can put some damn runs on the board. We'll see. Yeah. How it goes. But they just look.
A
Well, I got the scans from this week for our.
B
Our bracket. We got that up our bracket.
A
And then we have with the Zion case as the total scans over the playoffs. We. We. That's another thing. But how it worked for us is whoever had the most scans advanced, not necessarily the team that won. So our World Series, the Lux World Series is Yankees, Dodgers. Right now The Yankees had 37,000. You can see it. And then the Dodgers 42. So that. That's pretty good.
B
Pretty neck and neck. Okay.
A
Yeah.
B
There's no population advantage necessarily. Both are large cities to the largest. So LA might get the pop just because they're still in the playoffs, but there's enough Yankees fans to maybe scratch back in this thing. Yeah.
A
And the Blue Jays have 27, 000. And if you think about like, Toronto's a big city, it's a big Cindy, but there's no other baseball teams in Canada. So like they're the Canadian national team. So it'll be interesting next week to see, you know, they just don't collect a lot of baseball cards up there.
B
Like.
A
Yeah, it's. I would say that there's a Canadian national happen. What they call the Canadian national first week of November in Toronto and it's 65% hockey. It's whatever, 20% Pokemon and then like, whatever.
B
Yeah, of course, Pokemon. The. But the LUD X Championship is down to New York and Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers. I wouldn't be surprised if we see both the LUD X champion and the World Series champion be the same. If I was a betting man, and I am, That's. That's what I would probably put my money on.
A
I agree. I think the writing's on the wall on the LUDX World Series and the real World Series.
B
Exactly. It's keep. Keep your counts up, keep your numbers going. Again, the end of the World Series, get that Zion case. Ludex branded best cases in baseball, football, basketball, Pokemon, doesn't matter. Everything you store your cards and got that sexy LX logo on it. Including, you know, that's what I'm wearing on the hat there. You know, like, you. It. Let me just say, though, they. Hey, look at this guy. Yeah. Hey, we get. We. We got. We're supporting the brand powered by LUD X. But look, I wear this hat even when I'm not on the show. Dude, this is like my favorite hat. I had to take it off while I'm painting here in the new studio.
A
Though, so I might know someone to get you. Can get you a couple more.
B
I know. I don't. I don't want to pay on it. I'm just like, you know, y' all got those new designs too. I. I like the OG kind of. You know, you probably have some of these somewhere in the closet.
A
I'll send them. We gotta get Bella one so she can sport it.
B
Exactly. But, yeah, be keeping up with your scans. We've got the end of the series total scans for that case, so keep up with that. So, I mean, from a hobby headlines standpoint, we've got tops now with the license back and basketball launching. Seen some of the early looks look pretty cool. Friends in the hobby dealers seem to be pretty pumped about it. I can't tell if that's just them pumping because they're top Steelers or if they're truly liking it, but it's interesting. And seeing the logos back on and instead of the rec league jerseys, I'm happy. Let's see what tops and NBA logo again.
A
Yeah, No, I think it's like consolidation sometimes is good and consistency. You know, Panini had a. A long run with it and, you know, I'm kind of excited to see, you know, all the. All the sports, you know, have some.
B
Continuity to them and some variation. Different things will be. I hope. I. I think that. I know they will, but, you know, I want to see the innovation and the fun, you know, like different parallels or different. I don't know, takes on things. And I. I can't look at Wimby in the rec league jersey anymore. The same, you know, like, it's just. It did not. I. I had some cards. I was organizing the house. Oh, my God, our house is a mess. Got a hundred thousand cards laying everywhere and was actually picked up like Pops Chrome Cosmic Basketball or whatever. And it was like this sick shot of Wimby doing something ridiculous, but he was in the rec league jersey. And I'm just like, yeah, I'm gonna. I'm gonna get a sticker and put like, you know, the spurs logo, but no more. No more. No more tops coming out. I know it'll be a hot product because it's first year back. I don't know if that will make it more value necessarily, like first year back in so long, but probably demand will be high, I would assume.
A
Yeah, I mean, I'll get some numbers on that scans. Yeah, I want to see what happens because, like, Pokemon and basketball kind of, like, are right neck and neck. And when there's a Pokemon man release, it goes above basketball. So I'll see. It'll be interesting to see how popular the scans are for basketball. But, I mean, I can't see it not being a great, great thing for tops and the collecting community.
B
So I got a good story, very short one, you know, open packs with the boys. Nash and I were up. This is probably midnight on Saturday, pretty late for him. And we were open Pokemon and just. We opened, like, four packs each. It wasn't that many. It's like, right before bedtime. And I don't know if you've ever heard. And I'm gonna have the team share this. I did end up filming it, and I'll tell you why. So I can. I'll have the team do some overlay with. If you're watching, you can see us open this pack. So we're opening white. They have black. And this Black and White series, there's White Flare, which is a pack that I was opening. It was a little tin that had two packs in it. So I'm opening the white flare pack, and I open it, and Nash and I are talking about something. I'm halfway paying attention, expecting, you know, because with Pokemon, it's like the, like, eighth or ninth card is like the ones where the good ones are or something. I flipped it over to start open to look at, and I'm talking to Nash. I looked down, and it was a illustration. Rare card on the top, which I've never seen. And I Go. And I just fanned it enough to see, like, what the next one. I had a God pack. I've heard of this and never. We've opened. We've ripped 5,000 packs of Pokemon over the last year. Who knows? Never gotten one. And it was a, you know, out of a 2 pack, 10 white flare illustration. Every. Every car was illustration rare. All 12 of them were, like, high. Like, ended up being, I want to say, like, right at $175 in cards all in one pack. Oh, but it was a true guy.
A
What's the pack cost?
B
Oh, six bucks.
A
Do that like a million times, you'd be really, really welcome.
B
Yeah. But I got my Ludx app out, started scanning them, and sure enough, everyone came up first try. But nonetheless, we've got that on film. We'll have the team overlay that while describing it. But it was cool because what I did, Brian, I saw that and, you know, we weren't filming it. It was late. We weren't open a ton. So it wasn't like something we were normally filming. Once I fanned it and saw it's like, first, I didn't even believe they existed. I just heard people talking. I'm like, that's. That's made up, man. That's made up there. That's a marketing thing. Like, that's never happened. I was a non believer. And once I saw it and knew it, I said, nash. He said, what? He's like, I said, I'm gonna let you open this pack. I only saw the top card. I let him open, and I filmed over the top, letting him go through the cards so that we'd get it on film. And it was pretty cool. It was like, that was fun. There's the story of the week.
A
Way better than opening tops Basketball, I.
B
Bet, where, yeah, you get 12 commons and one parallel that you hope's worth, you know, $10.
A
Parallel. Someone who retired 30 years ago. Like, the thing pisses me off the most is when you can pull a coach. I'm like.
B
Yeah, they don't know if they do that in basketball. They do it in football. I know that. It's like, okay. I'm like, I. I really don't want. Who is it?
A
The Bill Lombardi?
B
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Vincent. Well, yeah, exactly. But like, Marv Levy or whatever, the Bills coach, like, 30 years. It's like, really? I mean, come on, man.
A
I pull the.
B
Like. Yeah. Oh, God. And then. And you know, my kids, you know, one of my sons loves the. The of course, loves, you know, Mahomes and so he got an Andy Reid. That's about the only coach he's ever been happy about. But it's. It's. It's not good, but. Anything else this week, brother?
A
No, I'm gonna show my. Like, the show and tell this week is.
B
Yes.
A
My buddy Tom Fallows, the Card Carver.
B
Love, Tom. Oh, yeah. That is sick. One of one, Jordan. That is badass right there. I love that. Yes.
A
That one I picked up a couple years ago at the national. And. And he's like, man, that thing is, like, almost tripled in price. And I'm like, all right, all right.
B
How do you know what those are worth? Like, how does he know? I mean, like, you know, honestly, he was.
A
He did a lot for us at the national. He was doing, like, free, like, sketches and everything.
B
Yeah.
A
And so at a. At a point, I felt, like, a little obligated to buy it, and. Okay. Like, he's like, I'll give it to you for a thousand bucks. And I'm like, cool. I didn't really want it, but it was, you know, helping a buddy out.
B
Yeah.
A
But it turned out to be a great thing. Tom's like a financial planner. He's helping me.
B
Exactly. Card Carver. I love Tom. He's been on this show. Go check him out. He's like, episode three. I think we talked all about his art, the way he does it. He's a true talent and a great guy on top of that. I love that, though. I'm gonna have to, like, if you. If you want to, like, ever gift me something, you can. You. You can give me that if you wanted to.
A
I'll give you this.
B
You got a lot of stuff I'd have a hard time choosing because you live in Chi Town. I mean, I'm a Chicago, old OG fan. Like, you know, like, anything with sweetness. Like, autographed or something.
A
I do a jersey, but.
B
Oh, God, you're not giving that away. Yeah.
A
Yeah. He was awesome. Yeah. So the. The card. The cards will be up in our new office. We're moving in, like, a month, month and a half. Unfortunately, this has turned into condos. We get booted.
B
But I'll have it up.
A
I'll have a better studio at the next place.
B
Yes. I love it, man. Cool, man. Lots of cool stuff this week. We got the movers, all QBs. Drake, May Stafford, and of course, Danny Dimes keeps on climbing the charts. I mean, I don't know if Danny. I mean, Danny Dimes. I mean, is that a. I don't know if it's a bad. I like the nickname. I don't know if it's, like, meant to be negative or not, but he. He's laughing all the way to the bank.
A
Next week, I'll be in Texas again.
B
Yeah.
A
So I'll be on the road.
