Okay, the last Power 4 conference to get to is of course the SEC. Trey, you are in charge of ranking these 16 projected starting quarterbacks and we'll start with your projected starter at Arkansas, number 16, KJ Jackson.

That's right. Yeah, the Razorbacks are they're in a tough spot and obviously Michael, you and I are we're on the record for for not loving the Silver Field hire and but looking at the quarterback situation here, KJ Jackson at least has one start and some experience. Not much but still needs to beat out AJ AJ Hill who was is a Memphis transfer coming in with Silverfield and he redshirted last year but was a four star a couple seasons ago. Got just a tiny bit of game action last year but but either way there's just nothing to go off for these guys.

Yeah, I will say though like I'm already comparing it to the Big ten. That's a stronger dfi. It's not A total dude. Yeah, yeah, exactly like we saw Ryan Brown play last year. He was my last quarterback in the Big Ten and play bad. At least K.J. jackson came in a couple games and

Yeah, I don't know. Hometown kid. I'm just, I'm just going with the, the five star billing here but obviously he's going to be. Raw talent's there. You know, tough act to follow with Vandy just having such a great year and obviously the numbers that Diego Pavia put up. So we'll see. You know it's a, if, if, if Vandy can keep the Clark Lee can kind of keep it, keep it rolling or if that was just kind of a one or two hit wonder there but, but it might be a tough year one but if you're a Vandy fan, you just want to see the flashes for Curtis show, show that promise.

Yeah, I don't know, it's. I'm high on Summerall at Florida, but I'm just really not high at all on the quarterback room really this year Philo comes in from Georgia Tech with his offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner who back. And so Philo, he, he backed up Haynes. King has some experience but only 58% completions and there actually is no luck that he's going to win the job over the returning backup Tramell Jones who was behind Lagway at the last year. But so I'm just. Overall though, I'm just curious to see how this offense looks in year one. As the quarterback and offensive coordinator to me personally maybe is a stretch to, to fit here, but maybe this is kind of like a bridge year and they're able to kind of get their guys in and, and it turns into something because I think Summerall is great, but I'm, I'm questioning this.

Yeah. Kind of hard to rank. I mean he was the starter at Ole Miss before getting hurt last year and then Chambliss took over but in, in his action he had six touchdowns but five picks and just kind of left a little more to be desired when you watched him. But looking at it in this situation, I think that it's a positive where he's got Drinkowitz offense. That's not going to just rely on him chucking it downfield all game. They can still rely on Ahmad Hardy in that awesome stellar ground game.

Yeah. I wanted to put a hypotensi quarterback a lot higher than this, but my problem here was, was kind of twofold. One, they really tried to get Aguilar another year of eligibility. So that was, that's one sign. But you would kind of do that anyways.

hard in the portal, right? Yes. And then on the. And also maybe more importantly, I don't know if McIntyre is going to even be the starter. You got the five star recruit Faison. Brandon McIntyre only appeared in a couple games last year. But no matter who it is, I'm saying McIntyre at least to start. I'm, I'm banking on him producing with, with Hypo's track record. But it's one of those things. I just, I need to see it.

Okay. I mean it's, it's, it's fair. But I personally would have had. Just ignore the name. I would have just. Tennessee quarterback. I know I would automatically bump. I would have bumped him to like, that's why I said maybe 10th or something.

Yeah, he's fun. Like, I feel like if he was on. You put him on a really good team and he'd be getting talked about. True freshman last year. Got some experience. Actually started the last two games and he's raw, but just an incredible athlete. He actually led Mississippi State last year with eight rushing touchdowns. Just got to polish up the passing game. But that's where I think Jeff Lebby's help this offseason should, should propel him a little bit more in that regard. And I was just thinking about him too, is I remember watching their bowl game, the Dukes Mayo bowl, and towards the end of the game I thought he had one of the most gruesome leg injuries ever, but somehow he was, he was still fine, but. But I think there's some upside with Taylor.

Okay. Number 10. Got a transfer quarterback here, Kenny Minchie at Kentucky.

He was, I don't know. To me it was surprisingly, he was a hot commodity in the, in the transfer portal and I think from looking at this it's a good sign that, that Will Stein, the new head coach there really wanted him and got him to renege on Nebraska in the portal. So when I'm looking at Minchi here, first you take into consideration Will Stein did amazing things with the quarterbacks he had each year at Oregon. Bo Nix, Dylan Gabriel, Dante Moore. Now obviously those guys are very talented and there's talent around them, but they still all had very prolific seasons under him. Not saying Minchi is going to replicate their output at all, but you know, he got a talented kid from Notre Dame. I would think Stein would get a lot out of him.

Yeah, hard not to trust Will Stein with quarterbacks. Number nine, Alabama quarterback Keelan Russell.

This is one, I guess same with like what you're talking about with McIntyre or maybe I'll be wrong on like Philo but. But it might look bad at the end of the year having a deboer quarterback this low but at this time, again it's one of those situations. We don't even know if Russell's going to beat out Mack, Austin Mack for the starting job. But Russell by all accounts had a very good spring. He was the top recruit for them a year ago. Just seems like he will be the guy. I mean he threw for over 10,000 yards in high school. He's just, he's very talented and I think, I think he'll be the guy.

This is where man, that is a strong number nine. I don't even disagree with him being here, but just in a vacuum of elite five star quarterback in what, his second year there? Yeah, under Kaylin DeBoer being ninth in a conference seems crazy but that's just kind of tells you that yeah, ninth,

he, he has, he has top three potential. So it's crazy.

Okay, number eight, John Matier, Oklahoma.

I don't know about maybe for some of these other conferences for you guys, but John Mateer was, was pretty hard. I didn't really know what to do with him. I think I probably, I don't know, maybe most, I don't know where most people would have, maybe they would have put him a little higher. But I, it's one of those things where I was just looking at him and I'm like I could see him in the year number three or number 13 on this list. His, his dual threat ability and what we saw at Washington State was amazing. But then you look obviously last year at the 11 picks and, and just the overall team offensive struggles, it, it makes you wonder but if you Kind of zigzag back through. He. He did have the hand injury, so now we're really going to see if that was playing a big factor last year. And to the. To the positive side, like another year with Ben Arbuckle as his offensive coordinator. I still think he can produce and he learned. He might have learned from last year. Should have a better offensive line play this year, which was kind of a bugaboo for them last year. Five starters returned, so you would think that combination should help them.

Yeah, and I like what they did in the Portal at receiver as well. So no excuses this year. Like, he's. That's right. Got to produce. Like you said, he's either gonna. Maybe he's just going to be a Heisman candidate or if he struggles with decision making like he did last year, then, yeah, he could certainly fall. Number seven, Lenora Sellers, South Carolina.

Yeah, I mean, everyone had him near the top last year, but then Shane Beamer decided to hire Mike Shula as the offensive coordinator and Sellers and the South Carolina offense regressed big, big time. And he didn't. He really didn't run that much last year, which was one of his strengths. But now you bring in Kendall Briles, the new offensive coordinator. So I'm expecting to see some of the Sellers that we were all high on from a couple years ago. And I guess to his credit, to the offensive line wasn't all that helpful. They dealt with injuries. So. Browse. I think we'll get the most out of him.

Okay. Number six, a very exciting transfer moving up in class. Byron Brown at Auburn.

Yeah, I wanted to even put him a slot or two higher. And I don't. I don't know how many national people would, but I like Byron Brown. Just my only doubt on him is, you know, again, you're going from the American at USF to now SEC play. And not only that, Auburn itself is relying on basically an entire new offensive line from the Portal. But he's just. Brown is so big and physically gifted, obviously familiar with Alex Goelish's offense. Led the FBS and total offense last year, and he's one of only 11 guys in history that have a season with 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing. So he's a. He's a specimen. And it'd be fun for Auburn fans. They kind of want him to be like Cam Newton. So be fun to see him produce.

Yeah, I mean, I, I don't. Again, we're just ranking the quarterbacks and not their supporting casts, but I wish I was more confident in his supporting cast. I wish I was more confident in the offensive line. He's going to be behind at Auburn because like I think we underrate the chance that we could be sitting here a year from now and Byron Brown just. We. Well, because they're supporting cast. I'm not sure this is the case. But anyway, I, I'll rephrase it. Byron Brown might be better than Arch Manning. Like there's just a chance that that's true. Like he was so good in the American last year and of course had a couple games against Florida and Miami where he kind of put the team on his back and competed and won one of those. Like if you put Arch Manning on USF last year, I don't think he was doing much better.

So we'll wait. Someone's got to. But. But yeah, it'll be, it'll be fast. If he had like Cam Coleman coming back speaking Arch Manning, if, if Cam Coleman was back at Auburn, you'd feel a little bit better.

Yeah, he's got some, some USF receivers and that's not, it's not exactly like North Texas going to the Big 12 take taking that supporting cast that I'm more confident can work USF to the sec.

Number five, you've got Marcel Reed, Texas A and M. Yeah, I guess it's

kind of a common theme. I think there's a few guys on this list where there's kind of a wide variance and I think Reed can be one of those. And the good for him is he now has a lot of experience, can get you the explosive plays through the air or with his feet. And he did lead A and M to a CFP berth. And, and he had some incredible games like the big comeback against South Carolina where he threw for over 400 yards that early in the season against Notre Dame he had a great game. But the bad is that he loses Colin Kaline as his offensive coordinator. We'll see if that has an impact. And he did not perform well at the end of the year. And their two biggest games, four turnovers, zero touchdowns against Texas and then against Miami at home in the, in the playoff, the offense just could not muster up anything. So you hope that's just kind of a, a one off, get it out of their system playing elite defense. But it's, it's just kind of stuck there in the back of your mind.

Okay, here's a tough one to rank, a tough one to know exactly what you're going to get this year for multiple reasons. Sam Levitt at lsu.

I went, I, so I went with the mindset like, okay, we. He's fully healthy. Like, I don't know how he's going to be, but that's just kind of how I approach this with him because. And if he is fully healthy, maybe, maybe he's, he's going to be higher. And obviously he was highly sought after in the portal and, and we saw what he was able to do when healthy with Dillingham at Arizona State. Kind of has a little Jackson dart style in him like, like Lane had at Ole Miss. This is, this is kind of a play on Lane Kiffin here at number four and the expensive roster they put together. Just got to have faith that Levitt's going to show his good form from a couple seasons ago and that, that Big 12 championship and playoff run that they had. But, but yeah, obviously that injury thing is, is weighing there in the back of your mind. And I, it's funny, lsu, they, they spent, they did spend a lot of money, but I'm also like, I'm a little, I'm not skeptical. I'm just, it feels like, it feels like they should have maybe even gotten more for what they were rumored to have spent. But we'll see. Maybe I'll be wrong. And they all, they all gel together.

Yeah. I think just with the quarterback position, with the offense, I just put my faith in Lane Kiffin. So I, that part. I think I might have even had Levitt a slot higher. But I mean, that's not a huge difference. But here's who you had ahead of him. You've got number three, Gunner Stockton Georgia.

Yeah. So like, if I was, if I'm taking upside, I'm not. I wouldn't have had Gunner Stockton probably ahead. But, but Gunner Stockton, man, pretty dang solid. And I actually, what's kind of weird is I never would have thought this going into the episode, but given his numbers and just given what you know, what you kind of know you're going to get out of him. I might have even had him number two if I knew that the Georgia. You can't. It's hard to do the situation. But if I knew the Georgia receiver situation was solid, I'd be like, dang, Stockton's pretty good. Big question this year.

I mean, when you look at the numbers compared to Arch, they're Not much different last year.

Right. He doesn't have that NFL prototype look, but he's just solid 70% completions, 34 total touchdowns. Obviously effective on the ground. And now it's going to be his second year as the starter. He's just got a very good floor. But again, going back to the receivers like he. Georgia lost five of their top six receivers and it's a big question mark going in the year. They've got a guy from Georgia Tech that they're going to try and lean on, but we'll see who emerges. But I just think he. Stockton is a good floor guy.

Yeah, he is. With him, it's just I, I think largely it's maybe Mike Bobo to blame, but maybe partially Gunner Stockton as well. Like you just need more explosion, like they need to go down the field. I agree.

Like I, I saw 31 of Gunner Stockton's passes were behind the line of scrimmage, which is like it. I think it was number one or number two in the power four, something like that. So it's just they. He just doesn't throw the deep ball and deep passes. I filtered it. There were among 53 players who threw 50 passes or more. Oh, sorry, let me rephrase that. Well, yeah, no, among the 53 players who threw 50 or more passes 20 yards down the field, he was 51st in yards per attempt. So it's just they're both not throwing it deep in that offense and when he has it wasn't very successful. So that's kind of what would have held him back a little bit for me. But he was, he was still very good regardless.

Number two, the guy we've been talking about, Arch Manning at Texas.

Yeah. So I obviously polarizing. I think he's worthy of this spot. But what we. What really got him, what really got him in this spot for me is the surrounding, surrounding talent. He now has to make him even better. Adding Cam Coleman at receiver is huge to go along with a guy like Ryan Wingo. And, and if you look at ignoring even just that part, if you look at Arch down the stretch, he was one of the best quarterbacks over the last five or six games of the season last year. Sixteen touchdowns to two picks in that stretch and just finally looked comfortable and in command of the offense. And that's kind of what you want to see obviously going into this upcoming year. So no excuses for him, but it seems to be trending. Well. Yeah.

As much crap as I've been talking I would also have had him number two. I think he's going to have very good year. But number one, Trinidad Chambliss Ole Miss.

Yeah and there is some hesitancy for me but like if this would be a slam dunk number one for me if Lane Kiffin was still there but he's still just too good to pass up. Got his shot early in the season and just took off last year led the SEC in passing, extremely efficient, 22 touchdowns to three picks. And obviously we all remember the sensational playoff run he had and the new offensive coordinator, John David Baker should keep a somewhat similar style. So I, I just, I love watching Chambliss but there's just that I don't think he he'll necessarily bust. It's just the, the question of if Ole Miss will But, but he's just too good of a a player to not. I couldn't pass him up at number one.

Yeah and they did a good job in the portal themselves. Like they've he's still. I think the drop off for Ole Miss will happen More so in 2028 at least.

I always think back of the Ole Miss would would actually love this but like Stanford when when Harbaugh left David Shaw that somehow kept going longer than I thought it would. I thought the bottom would fall sooner but. But it was always. It was just there was still a little crack each year. It was like okay, it was and so we'll see how it, how it goes for Ole Miss.

Yeah. Okay. So there's. Yeah there's your, your SEC list, I guess. Very good. I'm going to give some quick thoughts here. I think the like if I'm comparing it to the Big Ten. Right. Because they're these Big Ten sec. Their, their groups of quarterbacks are I think clearly better than the ACC and the Big 12. So we're just comparing them to each other. I think it could go either way. Like by the end of the season I'm not sure who will consider the better group of quarterbacks. But right now I don't, I don't even know. I'm kind of waffling right now because

I think is is a matter of personal preference. Like I actually prefer the Big Ten slightly in the top five because I like Jade Mava and Dante Moore better than I like say Arch Manning and Sam Levitt. But some people might disagree on that. I also, I like in the Big Ten Damond Williams and Josh Hoover in that kind of four or five over Gunner Stockton and Marcel Reed, four or five in the sec. I mean, it's close, but that's. That's what I prefer. After that, though, I think the SEC has. The rest of the list, makes up for it. Like Alabama's quarterback at number nine, like Keelan Russell, he could be a star. Whoever Tennessee's quarterback is at 12 could have a monster year. So I just think, I think the depth of the SEC top to bottom is better. So if. Yeah, I would say the SEC has better quarterbacks overall.

No, that's the same for me. I. Overall, yes, but like, yeah, at the top, looking at the top, say four guys for each, I would pick the Big Ten. You know, Big Ten is saying Mayava Moore and guy like Damon Williams or Hoover and against Chambliss, Stockton, Manning and Levitt, like, I would probably lean the Big Ten, but yeah, like, for me, five through nine or at least. And comparing those leagues, I think the SEC is pretty damn good because I could say, like, at number eight, we had John Mattier, wouldn't be shocked if he, like kind of got back to a, you know, borderline Heisman level. And then Lenora Sellers has the upside. We talked about how we love Byron Brown, Marcel Reed could get A and M back to the playoff, and then Keelan Russell and Al DeBoer, quarterback, like, it's, it's pretty dang impressive. Whereas I don't think, like, if you look at the Big Ten, you've got a guy at number seven like Rocco Becht, like Rocco Beckt is just. He is what he is. Nico Emiliava is good, but I don't think he's going to all of a sudden just bust out.

Yeah. So it's just that that second tier to me is what really sets apart the SEC here.
