He was originally considered the victim, but in a new twist, he was the one who allegedly started the fight and is now being charged with a felony and being sued by the victim. Now instead of just doing one more case, today we are going to do two more cases, both involving the tragic murders of two different elderly women. Let's get into it.

And a court filing from prosecutors lays out the allegations that Sanchez is accused of approaching and assaulting a delivery driver while intoxicated. And authorities say the driver stabbed Sanchez multiple times. The driver told police Sanchez smelled like alcohol and was slurring his speech. When Tolle didn't move his truck, Sanchez apparently body slammed the driver. Tolle told police he then pepper sprayed Sanchez, but Sanchez continued to attack him. So Tole pulled out a knife and stabbed Sanchez, believing Sanchez was trying to kill him. Hi. Hi. I'm Katie Ring, a true crime analyst, self defense instructor and fierce advocate for victims. Okay, before we get into today's top three cases, I want to bring up something I noticed in the news. In early September, police made a disturbing discovery. A woman was found dead inside a large cardboard box in the Arizona desert. On October 3, the Mojave County Sheriff's Office made a statement that police got a call from someone reporting a suspicious package in a remote desert area east of Kingman, Arizona. The woman has been identified as 57 year old Carolyn Ann Bosher. She's from Las Vegas and interestingly, she had been arrested and charged with indecent exposure on August 30. The investigation is still ongoing, but police said that a witness at the scene claimed that the night before Carolyn was found dead, he saw a vehicle with its trunk open near the area where the box was discovered. Police want anyone with more information on this case to come forward and contact them at 928-753-0753 and we'll make sure to follow this case closely on our socials. Rimehouse247 Today's first case is one that has been all over the news lately, especially if you're a sports fan. We're covering a case involving 38 year old Mark Sanchez, a former USC and NFL quarterback turned Fox Sports analyst in the early hours of October 4, 2025. Sanchez ended up in the hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana after getting stabbed in a fight with an unnamed truck driver, and the police ended up determining Sanchez was the aggressor. Initially, he was arrested in the hospital on misdemeanor charges, but they were later upgraded to felony charges. When a case like this involves someone so high profile, details are coming out constantly. So we're going to get into what we know, starting from the beginning. Born on November 11, 1986 in Long Beach, California, Mark Sanchez grew up in SoCal. His dad pushed Mark and his siblings mentally and physically. He wanted them to achieve great things and they rose to the occasion. Mark and his two older brothers all played football in college, but it became clear that Mark was destined to go pro. Mark was a quarterback and got recruited as one of the top prospects, but ended up redshirting his freshman year because the team was stacked with talent. But at the end of the year, in April 2006, Mark gets arrested after a female student tells authorities that he had sexually assaulted her. He is also suspended while the investigation against him moves forward. With the potential of becoming USC's next star quarterback, it's not surprising that two months later, in June 2006, prosecutors said that there was not enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt to bring any charges. After that, Mark rejoined the team and went on to have a successful college career as the starting quarterback. They won three successive Rose Bowls from 2007 to 2009 and Mark decided to leave school early in the 2009 NFL Draft. He was picked fifth overall by the New York jets and signed a $60 million contract with 28 million guaranteed. It's the biggest rookie contract the jets have ever signed. Mark showed promise in the beginning of his career, leading the jets to back to back NFC Championship games. But the next year he lost his starting spot and after a season ending shoulder injury, he ended up bouncing around between teams and retired in 2019 after 10 seasons. After retiring, he transitions to a career in broadcasting, first working with ESPN for their college football coverage and eventually a Fox Sports commentator covering NFL games. In 2023, Mark married actress Perry Matfeld. In March of this year, Mark and his wife welcomed twins. Mark also has a son from a previous relationship. On October 4, 2025, Mark arrives in Indianapolis, Indiana to cover the Fox Sports broadcast of the Indianapolis Colts game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Around 12:30am, 38 year old Mark is out by Locke Miller's Pub and Eatery in downtown Indianapolis and he has allegedly been drinking. According to a report from the New York Post, Mark is acting erratically and decides to do wind sprints in an alley behind the pub. As he's doing this, a truck backs into a hotel loading dock in the alley and blocks his way. The driver has been identified as 69 year old Perry Toll, who is there to pick up used cooking oil from the hotel's restaurant for recycling. Mark is allegedly angry with Perry for parking his truck and disturbing his sprints, so he opens the vehicle's door to confront him, but Perry can't understand him because he didn't have his hearing aids in. So he climbs out of the vehicle's cab, but Mark ends up hopping into it. Perry tells him he can't do that, and Mark ends up getting out. But the situation is escalating. Perry wants to grab his phone from the cab so he can call the hotel's manager, but when he tries to go around, Mark blocks him. As the two men argue, Mark allegedly gets physical and body slams him into a wall and then throws him to the ground. Mind you, this driver is almost 70 years old and has to wear hearing aids, and this guy is allegedly beating up an elderly man. Perry uses pepper spray in Mark's face to get him to stop, but Mark keeps coming at him. And according to the police affidavit, Perry believes Mark wants to kill him. While Mark continues to advance, Perry pulls out a knife and stabs him two or three times. After this, Mark turns, runs and stumbles out of the alley and into the pub. The owner sees him and immediately calls 911. PARAMEDICS RUSH Mark to the hospital and Perry is also treated for his injuries, including a deep gash on his cheek and injuries to his jaw and neck. Meanwhile, once doctors make sure Mark is in stable condition, he's arrested at the hospital and is charged with a few misdemeanors, including battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. He's discharged the next day and posts a $300 bond. As the authorities review evidence, including surveillance footage that reportedly captures multiple angles of the fight, prosecutors decide that the misdemeanor charges aren't sufficient. They believe this warrants a felony charge of battery involving serious bodily injury. During a press conference to announce the additional charge, Marion county prosecutor Ryan Mears says, quote, this was a situation that did not need to occur. The allegations involve a 38 year old man becoming involved in an altercation with a 69 year old man who sustained significant and very severe injuries as a result of that altercation. Chris Bailey, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department chief, says, quote, I don't care who you are, I don't care what you do for a living. I don't care where you live. If you come into our city, commit violence, we will use all of the tools at our disposal to hold you accountable. A major factor in this case is that Indiana is a stand your ground state, meaning a person does not have a duty to retreat before using reasonable force, including deadly force, in self defense. The key to this is that you have to truly believe that such force is necessary and I haven't seen the footage myself, but between the testimony of the victim and new information the police have released, it seems like this was definitely justifiable self defense. The fact that he even tried to pepper spray him first gives him even more protection because he attempted to use a less lethal form of self defense and that didn't stop his attacker, so he had to take more extreme measures to protect himself. The prosecutor says that more charges may be coming as the investigation continues and more search warrants will be executed on top of the criminal charges. The truck driver Perry Toll announced on Monday, October 6 that he is filing a civil suit. He alleges that because of Mark's actions, he has suffered permanent disfigurement, loss of function, other physical injuries, emotional distress and other damages. He is also suing the Fox Corporation, claiming it has a responsibility to make sure its employees conduct themselves reasonably and should have been aware of Mark's alleged propensity for drinking and or harmful conduct. Meanwhile, Mark's family releases a statement via Nick Sanchez Jr. His brother, who is also an attorney, saying that the situation is, quote, a deeply distressing time for everyone involved. He goes on to say, quote, mark remains under medical care for the serious injuries he sustained and is focused on his recovery. As the legal process continues, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the first responders and medical staff. As of this recording, Mark Sanchez has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, the sentencing Guideline is between one and six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. His next court hearing is currently scheduled for November 5, 2025. We'll be tracking the situation for any updates, including if any more charges are brought and how the case.

Today's second case is the tragic murder of Cheryl Pate in the city of Pekin, illinois. Last month, 93 year old James Pate was accused of fatally slashing his 80 year old wife Cheryl's throat. When police interviewed him, James Pate admitted to cutting his wife's throat because they were arguing and he quote, couldn't take it anymore. As of this recording, he's being held at the Tazewell County Jail on first degree murder charges while the terms of his detention are being discussed. This is a case where we are still learning a lot of details, but let's get into what we know so far. Cheryl Pate was born on November 23, 1944 in the town of Bartonville in central Illinois. She grew up in the area and ended up settling there, meeting and marrying her husband Jim, becoming a call center manager and raising two children, Tiffany and Brandon. Her kids remember her as a loving, dedicated mom who was always looking out for others. They even said she would keep soup stocked in the freezer in case someone got sick. She also had a close group of friends that she had known for over 50 years and really considered them more like chosen family. She was also famous for her festive Christmas cookies she would share with almost everyone in town. Cheryl's generosity extended to strangers as well. After retiring from the call center, she dedicated her time to community service and volunteered for different organizations around town. Sheryl also found time for herself. She loved to garden, watch movies, play games, make her own jewelry and travel. At the end of the day, it was all about family, especially when Cheryl became a grandmother. She proudly took on the nickname of Grandma Sherry and was a shining presence in her grandkids lives. She loved to have them over for sleepovers and never missed a major moment. She was always there for her grandkids. Whether it was choir concerts, swim meets, volleyball games or plays, you name it, she was there. Cheryl built a beautiful life for herself. But in one tragic moment, it was all taken from her. On September 2, 2025, the day after Labor Day weekend, police respond to a report of a stabbing on the 1800 block of South 14th street in Pekin, Illinois. When they arrive, they find 80 year old Cheryl Pate lying next to her car in her long driveway, bloodied from the neck down with a laceration mark on the front of her throat. It had been slashed and she had no pulse. Cheryl is transported to the nearby St. Francis Medical center in Peoria, Illinois where she's declared dead. The autopsy concluded that she had died from multiple sharp force injuries that were described as incompatible with life and not survivable. While Cheryl's taken to the hospital, the police Interview Cheryl's husband, 93 year old James Pate, at the scene. He allegedly has a significant amount of blood on him and James readily admits to slashing his wife's throat, according to him. Here's what happened. James says that their marriage was on the rocks and they were heading for divorce. The situation was getting tense and he had a lot of pent up rage that day. They were in the car and got into a heated argument. James claims that he stops the car and Cheryl lunges at him. That's when something in him breaks. As James puts it, he can't take it anymore, so he pulls out a knife from the center console and stabs his wife to death and slits her throat. Who keeps a knife in their center console? James allegedly tells officers that he threw the knife into the woods next to their driveway and they end up finding it. After this admission, James is taken into custody and charged with frank first degree murder. The next day, the Tazewell County State's Attorney's office files a petition to deny the 93 year old a pre trial release, claiming that he would be a safety threat to the community. The day after that, September 4, 2025, there's a hearing to determine his immediate custody arrangements. He's denied bail for the time being and James's lawyer requested that he be detained at the Tazewell County Jail and the judge agrees to these conditions without prejudice. Generally, without prejudice means that the decision isn't permanent, so these detentions could change. The judge agreed to hold another detention hearing about a month after that on October 2, 2025. However, there have not been any public updates on this hearing, but we're keeping a close eye on the case. As more details come out, we could learn more about their marriage and whether a neurological condition like dementia could have been a factor. Neurological conditions like Alzheimer's can cause people to act inappropriately, become emotionally different, and lose their ability to control their impulses. For now though, we're monitoring the situation for official updates and as always, we'll be sure to bring you all of the major developments.

A 72 year old woman named Mindy Kum was reported missing on September 2, 2025. Two days later, Mindy's remains were discovered on a property she owned in Feeling, California and the woman she rented it to, 57 year old Margaret Meaner, was charged with Mindy's murder. This is another case that's rapidly evolving and details are still coming out. As of this recording, we know that Margaret was being held without bail. As the case against her moves forward, let's get caught up with everything we've learned so far. On September 2, 2025, 72 year old Mindy Cum's family reported her missing. They'd last seen her in the city of Tustin, California, which is inland from Newport Beach. But Mindy doesn't live in Tustin. She's from another town called Phelan, which is a quiet desert community about 70 miles to the northeast. Phelan is definitely the place you go to if you want spots space. The LA Times described it as a wind swept, tiny unincorporated town nestled in the shadow of a mountain ski resort just above the vast expanse that is the Mojave Desert. It's the sort of community where you can get a lot of privacy and avoid people from getting into your business. Over the next couple days, the police are able to determine that Mindy's last known location was actually up and feeling not in Tustin, so they focus their attention there. Mindy owns some property there and on September 4, two days after Mindy is reported missing, they go out to one of her houses on the 6400 block of Smoke Tree Road. Smoke Tree is a wide dirt road with lots of desert scrub and Joshua trees. It's a place that may seem peaceful, but something terrible has happened. The police talked to the woman renting the place, 57 year old Margaret Juliet Meaner, who also goes by the name Juliet Owl. When they search the property, they find human remains and Margaret is taken into custody and charged with Mindy Come's murder. After being treated at the hospital for an unrelated health issue, Margaret is transferred to a detention facility where she remains until she appears in Court almost two weeks later on September 16, 2025. When asked to enter a plea, Margaret says not guilty. A preliminary hearing was scheduled to take place on September 29, although as of this recording, details from that hearing have not been released. For now, Margaret Meiner is being held without bail as investigators keep building their case. As of this recording, Mindy Cum's cause of death hasn't been released and we're monitoring for any updates on what may have led to her murder. The written statement from police reads that they entered Margaret's property, conducted a search and found the remains of her elderly landlord. So we're watching this one very carefully. It's a case with so many questions that don't have answers yet, and as more information comes out, we'll be sure to bring it to you here. What did you think of today's cases?
