We aim to inform, not to decide guilt or innocence. So everyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Tonight we're taking a look at the case of 30 year old Daisy Link, a woman who was arrested in 2022 after fatally shooting her long term partner, Pedro Jimenez. Daisy says it was out of desperation and in self defense, but prosecutors dispute this. They say Link lied to police when they first arrived on the scene, but that's not what she's most known for. In 2023, while awaiting trial behind bars, Link became pregnant with another inmate's baby, who she says she never met in person. I actually didn't even know that jails held both male and female inmates until I just recently saw a TikTok where women apparently look for inmates to date. And one of the girls was pissed because her boyfriend was housed with a stripper. And apparently they were able to write letters back and forth. I don't even know how I got to that side of TikTok, but the whole scene is wild. But how Daisy was able to get pregnant is even more wild. She gave birth to her baby in 2024, but her plan to help the pregnancy get her bail didn't work out, and the baby is now in the care of a family member. Her murder trial finally began last month, and against the advisement of most lawyers you'll meet, she took the stand in her own defense. On the stand, she described the chilling moments that originally landed her in custody, as well as the years of abuse she allegedly endured leading up to Pedro Jimenez's death. So how did we end up at this fatal crossroad? Daisy and Pedro first started dating in 2013, when Daisy was 18 years old. Together, they have two kids and settled down in the Miami suburb of Homestead, Florida. Although they moved to a quieter neighborhood because they wanted to raise their kids away from the craziness of the city, the their own household is far from quiet. According to Daisy, she and Pedro's relationship was always toxic. By 2022, Pedro is so controlling, he doesn't even let Daisy use social media because he's afraid she'll meet someone online and cheat on him. But that's just skimming the surface of his abusive and controlling behavior. Apparently, Pedro is also a heavy drug user, and when he's high, he gets angry and violent. His abuse becomes so bad that Daisy finally kicks Pedro out of their house and takes his name off of the lease. He ends up moving in with his mother, but he's still involved in Daisy's life and regularly visits her and the kids. Daisy tries to make this new arrangement work, but ultimately she doesn't feel safe around Pedro. So she arranges to move from Florida to Texas and to live with her mother. But when she breaks the news to Pedro, he's outraged. As an aside for your safety, please never break news like this or announce your leaving to an abuser in person, because leaving is the most dangerous time for women in abusive relationships. In fact, 70% of women who are murdered by their abuser are murdered after they leave, like the majority of abusers do. When a victim announces she's leaving, Pedro gets violent. He pulls out a gun and threatens to shoot Daisy if she doesn't agree to stay in Florida. But Daisy doesn't back down. So Pedro pistol whips her and continues to hit her with the gun, eventually knocking her to the ground. Then he fires a single warning shot in her direction. After that, their son begins crying loudly from the other room. Thankfully, the situation doesn't escalate any further and Pedro leaves the house. The next day, Daisy sends pictures of her head injury to her sister Crystal. Crystal is shocked the wound is so severe Daisy's skull is visible. Crystal tells Daisy to go to the hospital, but Daisy refuses. She doesn't want to get Pedro in trouble because he's undocumented. But Crystal is afraid that Pedro's violence will just keep escalating. So she calls their mom and says that they need to get Daisy out of Florida and to Texas. Now. Her mom begins the long drive from Texas to Florida immediately. But before she gets there, Pedro returns to the house. He apologizes to Daisy for hurting her and says he loves her. Daisy wants to keep the peace, so she tells Pedro she forgives him and that she'll stay in Florida. But she's just buying time. A few days later, on June 24, 2022, Pedro, Daisy's mom, arrives in Homestead. Daisy tells her she's going to take the kids and go back to Texas with her. But as they're packing their belongings, Pedro shows up at the house again. He's allegedly in a drug fueled rage after buying a bunch of cocaine earlier that day. He storms into the house and accuses Daisy of cheating on him. She denies it, which only makes him angrier, and he begins choking her. Daisy's mother yells at him to stop and threatens to call the police. So Pedro backs off and begs her not to. And so does Daisy, because like many victims of domestic violence, despite his behavior, she is bonded to him and still believes she loves him and doesn't want him to be deported. Pedro finally leaves, but 15 minutes later, he's back yet again. This time he steals Daisy's purse and phone as well as a bottle of whiskey. Daisy tries to get her stuff back, but he knocks her to the ground. By this point, Daisy's mother is outraged, But Daisy keeps telling her not to intervene. So her mom ends up leaving and finally, so does Pedro. But Daisy knows he won't be gone long. This is what prosecutors say went down next. Daisy grabs one of Pedro's guns from where he stores them in the house. It's a ghost gun, which means it's unregistered. She stands outside the house and waits for Pedro to come back. And just a few minutes later, around 3:30am on June 25, he's back again. Pedro sees Daisy with the gun and tells her to put it down, but she refuses. Feeling emboldened, she tells him that she did sleep with someone else. Pedro sees red. He no longer seems to care that Daisy has a gun and and he grabs her hair and throws her to the ground. Daisy points the gun at Pedro and he turns and starts running. That's when Daisy fires. As Daisy tells it, she's only trying to hit the ground with a warning shot to scare Pedro. But she ends up hitting him. The bullet goes through his leg and foot. He keeps running, but soon he collapses in an alley behind their home. Daisy follows him, but she doesn't seem too concerned about his injuries. Then she's captured on their ring camera in a clip that has since caused a ton of speculation. Daisy says, I hit a major artery. You'll be fine. Then she asks Pedro if he wants to go to the hospital. However, almost immediately, Daisy seems to realize how serious the injury is. Pedro tells her he wants to die. She applies a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, but it doesn't seem to work. Pedro is bleeding a lot. That's when Daisy calls 911 and tells him her partner has been shot and there's blood everywhere. Paramedics rush to the scene, but when they get there, Pedro is dead. When police arrive, they ask Daisy what happened and she says she doesn't know. Quick tip. My ex boyfriend was a public defender and said that at this point, even if you acted in self defense, the best thing to do is say you will cooperate with the investigation but that you would like to talk to a lawyer and then proceed to shut your mouth. Don't even say you acted it in self defense until you speak to a lawyer. But since Daisy doesn't follow me on social media, she tells them she went outside and found Pedro like this. She even cries out, pedro, what happened to the officers? Things aren't adding up and soon they tell Daisy they want to bring her into the station. When one officer tries to detain her, Daisy swings a chair at him. Eventually they get her to calm down and stop resisting. Right before they read her Miranda rights, Daisy mutters under her breath quote, I did not mean to kill him. It seems like at this point, Daisy realizes how bad this looks because she decides to tell them the truth that she did kill Pedro. She's probably hoping that by owning up to it she won't face serious consequences. But when her plan doesn't work out the way she hopes, Daisy tries something new. I've seen so many people on social media talking about how clothes are getting more and more expensive but the quality of the fabrics keeps getting worse and worse. It feels like even designer labels are using polyester but charging the prices of real quality fabrics like cashmere, wool and real silk. I've been searching for some staple pieces for fall and winter that are made of high quality real fabrics that will actually last. And if you're in the same boat, you need to check out Quint's. One of my favorite parts about Quint's is that they are working directly with ethical top tier factories so you get high quality clothes ethically sourced for half the price. I'm also on the quest for the world's comfiest bed, so I ordered their linen duvet and the mulberry silk pillowcases. For anyone who has asked about the hair 100% silk, not polyester. Satin is key to protecting it, so I'll make sure to report back on those. Step into the holiday season with layers made to feel good, look polished and last. Quint.com chd at 9am on June 25, 2022, 30 year old Daisy Link is questioned for the murder of her partner Pedro Jimenez at the Homestead Police Department outside of Miami, Florida. She explains the timeline of their relationship, including Pedro's abusive behavior. She shows them the injuries that Pedro recently inflicted and says she didn't mean to shoot him. She also says she only lied because she was scared and didn't want to get in trouble. Then she tells investigators where they can find the gun. However, they don't seem to buy it. They insinuate that Daisy killed Pedro on purpose. When Daisy hears this, she lashes out and throws another chair at them. Once they get her to calm down again, Daisy puts her head in her hands and says, I killed him. I loved him. I loved him so much. Meanwhile, police reach out to Daisy's family to inform them of the situation, but when they speak to Daisy's sister Crystal she blurts out, if Pedro is dead, Daisy must have shot him. This seems to make police think Daisy isn't so remorseful after all. So they obtain ring footage from the house to try and figure out exactly what happened. They find footage of Pedro running around the house screaming at Daisy, until the two erupt into a heated argument. Then they discover audio from the shooting. Finally, they hear Daisy's comment about hitting a major artery and telling Pedro he'll be fine. The footage is the nail in the coffin. Daisy is charged with second degree murder and booked in the Turner Guilford Night Correctional Center. Once she's behind bars, Daisy wants nothing more than to get back to her kids. But she's denied bond after her arrest and has denied it again. In 2023, Daisy's devastated. However, as desperate as she is to get out, she finds a source of comfort within the prison walls. What happens next is still under investigation, but here's how Daisy tells it. At some point, she ends up in solitary confinement. The loneliness gets harder and harder for her to cope with. From her cell, Daisy can hear other inmates voices through the vents. So eventually, she starts talking to some of them. And after talking for a while, Daisy forms a connection with a fellow inmate named Jawan depos. In 2023, Jawan, who is 22, is housed with the men in the level above the women. He's serving 25 years for a second degree murder conviction. It's not clear whether he's also in solitary, but he and Daisy bond over the struggles they face in prison. It doesn't take long for their relationship to turn romantic. They can't meet face to face, so they pass pictures and notes to each other through the vents using string or ropes they've tied from their bedsheets. Joanne's notes are super affectionate. He has pet names for Daisy, and he tells her how happy she makes him. But they have deeper conversations, too. One day, Joanne tells Daisy how badly he wants to become a father, but that he's afraid he'll never get the chance because of his long sentence. That's when a light bulb goes off in Daisy's head. She tells Joanne that she will have his baby. They've already been passing notes and pictures, so there's got to be a way for Joanne to pass his semen. Joanne is on board, so Daisy makes a fishing line out of plastic pens, inmate meal labels, and some string from her mattress. Over the course of two months, Juwon deposits his semen into Saran Wrap, rolls it up, and sends it back to Daisy. Then she empties a medication applicator meant to treat yeast infections and uses it to inseminate herself. Finally, in December 2023, this works, and Daisy cheerfully tells Juwon that she missed her period and she thinks she's pregnant. Jiwon is thrilled. He compares Daisy to the Virgin Mary. Around that same time, Daisy asks prison officials for a pregnancy test, but they laugh at her because she's been in jail for almost two years and they believe there is no way she's pregnant, so they don't give her one. Daisy tells them she missed her period, and they start to piece together what she and Juwan have been up to. Prison officials are upset about all the rules Daisy had to break break to make this happen. So they put her on lockdown to prevent any further contact with Joanne. But Daisy doesn't let it get her down. On Christmas Day, she calls her mom to share the good news. When Daisy says she's pregnant, her mom is in utter disbelief. Daisy tells her it's a good thing because she's going to use the situation to get herself out of prison. She says she plans to sue the prison, but she's vague about what exactly she plans to sue for. This also ties back to the questions involved in the ongoing investigation into her pregnancy. Daisy may have planned to sue over lack of proper prenatal care in the prison. Others have also speculated that a correctional officer may have been involved in the scheme. The facility may also look into the possibility that Daisy was sexually assaulted. Daisy does tell her family that she was, but also later tells her lawyer that she wasn't. Others speculate that Daisy may have been raped by a correctional officer, which is unfortunately, all too common. But they do a paternity test, and it confirms that Juwan is indeed the father. Daisy doesn't seem to realize that the prison phone calls are recorded, but her mom does. She says to Daisy, you know what? You're stupid. Her mom is probably also unhappy when the news of Daisy's pregnancy makes national headlines. And she knows she will most likely be the person who has to take care of this baby if her daughter is found guilty. Daisy tells one outlet, the jail should actually thank me. I found a huge breach in their security. Since the news broke, the prison has changed procedures to minimize inmate contact through the air vents. They've also reduced the number of yeast infection medication applicators that are in circulation. From there, Daisy's attorneys try and get her moved to house arrest at her sister's house, at least for the duration of her pregnancy. They claim that the jail staff haven't given her prenatal vitamins and that they refused to give her electrolytes when she threw up from morning sickness. Ultimately, the judge denies the request and Daisy remains in jail. In June 2024, two years after the arrest, Daisy gives birth to a baby girl. She spends two days with her baby before giving custody to Juwan's mother. Now that Daisy's lost her get out of jail free card, she turns her focus back to her case. If she ever wants to see any of her kids again, she'll have to convince the court she's not guilty. In the lead up to Daisy Ling's trial, her attorneys try various tactics to get her case dismissed. In September 2025, they try to use Florida's stand your ground law as justification for Daisy shooting Pedro. This law allows for the use of deadly force in self defense, even if retreat is an option. It was famously used in the defense of George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin shooting. Ultimately, though, Judge Lodi Jean dismisses the stand your ground defense in Daisy's case. She cites Daisy's unserious demeanor in the aftermath of the shooting, as well as the fact that she lied to police. It also does not help Daisy's case that she shot Pedro as he was running away despite all of the abuse she endured. The law states that if the other person is retreating and the person is no longer a threat, then you cannot claim self defense. So on October 8, 2025, Daisy goes to trial. In their opening statement, the prosecution alleges Daisy shot Pedro out of rage, not self defense. They play the body cam footage of when police initially responded and processed the scene scene. As the video plays in the courtroom, Daisy starts sobbing. She covers her ears and looks away. Investigators then testify about how Daisy's story changed before she confessed. Later, the defense describes Pedro as cruel and abusive. They say Daisy did everything she could to try and get away from him and that she had to defend herself. They called Daisy's mother, sister and niece to the stand, who all confirm that Pedro caused the injuries Daisy showed police that day. However, the family's involvement soon becomes problematic. As witnesses, they're supposed to be sequestered from the trial, meaning they're not supposed to hear any updates on how things are progressing. But prosecutors claim that during a break, they saw Daisy's mother watching the trial livestream on her phone. They also say Daisy's sister posted on social media about the trial. The family denies everything, but the speculation casts doubt on their earlier testimony. The defense hopes to change that on day five of the trial, October 15th. Daisy takes the stand herself. She describes her relationship with Pedro as fraught when he was on drugs. But despite everything he put her through, she says she still loved him. She also says her final interactions with Pedro were terrifying for her. Not only was her head still healing from the recent attack, she knew he was on drugs that day. Finally, the defense calls Daisy's 11 year old son Pedro Jr. To the stand. Pedro Jr. Describes seeing his father beat his mother frequently. He talks about the incident where Pedro Sr. Shot at Daisy and beat her with a pistol. Pedro Jr. Clearly loves his mom and testifies he wants to help her get out of jail, but his support isn't enough. The next day, after less than two hours of deliberation, the jury finds Daisy guilty of second degree murder. Daisy's sister Crystal is shocked by how quickly the verdict was reached. She says, quote, it's a very sad situation for her, for her kids and for the family because we all lived through this event. It's traumatizing to everyone. I don't wish this upon anyone. Crystal hopes that the judge will take Daisy's history of being abused into account when she hands down her sentence, which should be coming soon. As of this recording, her next court date is set for November 21, 2025 for a pre sentencing hearing. But Daisy's lawyer is planning to file an appeal, which means this case could be far from over. So we'll be watching this one closely to see what kind of punishment Daisy receives and we'll bring you all of the major updates. What did you think of tonight's case?
