Tonight we're reaching the end of our deep dive into the trial of Sean Combs. So far, we've unpacked testimony from Combs former girlfriend of over a decade, Cassie Ventura, some of his former employees, and most recently, rapper Kid Cudi and Combs former assistant Capricorn Clark. Now we're diving into one final piece of witness testimony from the woman he was dating up until his arrest who took the stand under the pseudonym Jane Doe. Before we get into Jane's testimony, I think it's important to go over what coercion is because it is one of the key elements in the sex trafficking charges. And personally, I think if the jury understood it better, we might have had a different outcome. To get a guilty verdict on the sex trafficking charges, prosecution had to prove that the victims participated in the freak offs under force, fraud or coercion. To get a not guilty verdict, defense had to prove that this was just a kinky consensual relationship and they were willing participants. Loosely Coercion is using threats, intimidation, pressure or force to get another person to do something they don't want to do. The federal definition of coercion is a threats of serious harm to or physical restraint against any person B any scheme, plan or pattern intended to cause a person to believe that failure to perform an act would result in serious harm to or physical restraint against any person or c the abuse or threatened abuse of law or the legal process. Under this definition of coercion, serious harm means any harm, whether physical or non physical, including psychological, financial or reputational harm that is sufficiently serious to compel a reasonable person to perform an act against their will. All of these were present in these relationships. The threat of violence, the threat of leaking the tapes, the threat that they would be cut off financially, and the threat of taking away all of the affection these women begged for so dearly. One of the most shocking parts of Jane's testimony to me was when she told the court that Diddy was not only paying for her lawyers, he was also still paying her rent I feel like the irony of the defense arguing there was no coercion while we're all witnessing Sean Combs still exercising coercive control over this victim was lost on a lot of people. You would think in this case that Jane would hold back a bit in her testimony, but she was shockingly forthcoming. One of those shocking moments was during the cross when Jane said that in 2022, she started researching the nature of her relationship to understand Combs alleged need for the hotel nights, which is what they called the freak offs. She said that she came across the term cuckold, which is a kink where a man enjoys watching his female partner have sex with another man. She continues, quote, I was just trying to deep dive on all of the reasons that they cucks had derived so much pleasure from watching their woman be with other men. When asked further about what she learned, she added that cucks usually have a bi curiosity that they are too ashamed to experience themselves, so they use the women to venture out in this curiosity without actually doing the act itself. You might be shocked that Diddy's own defense team is asking these questions because he allegedly did not look happy about it in court. But remember, they are trying to prove it was just a kinky relationship, not sex trafficking. I can just picture a meeting between Diddy and his lawyers. Would you rather admit to being a cuck who is bi curious or would you rather go to jail? Between the direct and the cross, Jane Doe was on the stand for over 24 total hours. She dated Combs for three years. And while she told her story in court, she often found herself getting emotional or even shedding tears. Sometimes she caught herself referring to Combs as her lover or partner, and it seemed as if she was almost still in love with him. Jane said that on their first date, Diddy flew her out and they spent five whole days together, basically in the hotel room the entire time. It's important to note that in the beginning, this was just time between the two of them. He then flew her out to a trip to Turks and Caicos, where he first got her comfortable with taking ecstasy. And she said after that they started using the L word. But everything changed about five months later after being heavily love bombed. Her and Combs were watching porn and discussing fantasies. Combs brought up the idea of freak offs, which he now referred to as hotel nights. She said she could maybe be open to the idea. And next thing you know, he made arrangements for a male escort to join them in a Miami hotel room that same night. She was a little shocked because she wasn't expecting it then and there. But she agreed to participate. She said that she enjoyed the first hotel night. It felt like a taboo experience she had with her partner, but she did not think this would be a recurring thing. Maybe just something for special occasions. But she said that after that first night, it was like she opened Pandora's box. During their hotel nights, Combs would usually invite multiple men over and Jane would have to do back to back performances with multiple men. Like Cassie, she would look forward to the moments after these nights and in between these events where they would have private intimacy or even just hang on the couch, cuddle and watch Dateline. Apparently, Combs is a true crime buff and Jane said that this was his absolute favorite show. But within their first year together, Jane had enough. She tried to tell Combs that she didn't want to keep having sexual encounters with other men. At first he seemed agreeable and started planning dates and trips for just the two of them. But then he'd blindside her by bringing sex workers along anyway. It started to seem like there was no way for her to escape it. And the more frequent the hotel nights became, the more of an issue. It was for Jane, especially because she made a living as a content creator. So when she had to start devoting so much time to these nights, she. Her paychecks took a hit. She told Combs about her concerns and he made a proposition. He'd pay her $10,000 rent every month, plus another $10,000 for spending. It was a formal two year agreement. They referred to it as a quote love contract. But according to Jane, Combs quickly started holding the allowance over her head. Specifically, if she ever told him she didn't want to have a hotel night, he'd threatened to cut her off. Now she felt completely forced into it. And before long, the hotel nights took a serious physical toll on her. Jane said she had almost constant pelvic pain and that she got frequent infections. But during cross examination, Jane said that she didn't tell Combs about these issues because she didn't want to seem negative. It wasn't until other aspects of Combs sex and dating life started to get to her that Jane felt like she could finally put her foot down. Combs had made it clear from the start that he always had multiple girlfriends and Jane was okay with that in general. But eventually she started to realize that Combs treated his other girlfriends better than he treated her. He took them on real dates and trips, whereas most of her time with him was spent planning and carrying out Hotel nights. This came to a head on New Year's of 2022, when they had their most elaborate hotel night yet. To celebrate the New Year, they had a three day long event involving three different sex workers. Immediately afterward, though, Combs left for a vacation with another one of his girlfriends, which made Jane incredibly upset. She told Combs that she had felt taken advantage of and that he just used her and then took off to spend actual quality time with someone else. After that, their relationship went south and they separated for a while. And they were still on a break in November of 2023 when Cassie filed her lawsuit against Combs. Jane watched as Combs and his team went into PR crisis mode. Based on their sheer level of panic, she could tell the accusations in the lawsuit must be bad. So she decided to read it herself. Three days after Cassie's lawsuit, Jane texted Combs. I just woke up because I'm nauseous. I've been crying for three days and under stress from reading all of this, I keep having nightmares about forced nights and all the times I felt like I couldn't say no. I feel like I'm reading my own sexual trauma. It makes me so sick how three pages word for word is exactly my experience and my anguish. Even two of my own birthdays. You had me perform so many countless toxic years together, even recently throwing up in a hotel in LA because I was finally sober and disgusted and felt so forced to perform back to back and just wanting to end it all. The sick part is you knew this was coming and you gaslit me and made me feel crazy about the sex trauma I was developing. Knowing you've been there before and this is just the sick thing you do. I feel manipulated. This was never love between us. It's also clear this was sexual exploitation that you feigned as love for your sick fetishes. Jane said that reading the lawsuit made her sick, that it felt like she was reading an account of her own trauma word for word. Jane confronted Combs, opening up about how hurt and upset she was, that he hadn't only exploited her, but that he'd done the same thing to another girlfriend before. But as the allegations against him continued, Combs suddenly changed his attitude. He was more affectionate, started taking Jane on real dates, and even called her his girlfriend, which he'd never done before. So in the spring of 2024, a few months after Cassie filed her lawsuit, they officially got back together. That honeymoon phase didn't last long though, because pretty soon Jane discovered even more troubling things about Sean Combs.

When the hotel footage of Sean Combs attacking Cassie became public In May of 2024, Combs posted an apology on social media. But many of his fellow celebrities were extremely critical of what seemed like an attempt to cover his own bases more than anything else. Stars including 50 Cent, his number one professional hater and the creator of the new documentary Sean Combs the Reckoning, as well as John Legend, Kristin Chenoweth and Maria Shriver posted their own reactions to the footage and Combs subsequent apology, expressing everything from disappointment to anger to disgust. Sadly, Combs was able to convince Jane that Cassie was actually the violent one and the quote hit her. But in the aftermath of this media firestorm In June of 2024, Combs, then girlfriend who testified at this federal trial under the pseudonym Jane Doe made yet another shocking discovery about his shady behavior. Jane said that after they got back together in the spring of that year, she thought things were going well until she learned that Combs had brought a much younger girl on a family vacation. Jane was used to Combs seeing other women. She had accepted it as long as he treated her as well as he treated the others, but this time he took it two, three far. She told the court that when she found out about it, she called him a quote, monster and pedophile. This caused a heated argument to erupt, escalating to the point where Jane slammed Combs head into the counter. He immediately started chasing her around the house. She ran into the master bedroom and locked the door, but he kicked the door down. She then ran into the bathroom. He kicked that door down. She ran to the closet, he kicked that door down. And then she started to run outside. But Combs eventually got a hold of her. She testified that he kicked the back of her thigh, she fell down on her butt. Then he picked her up in a chokehold and choked her. He lifted her up and she couldn't breathe. She said she was on her tippy toes and she remembers him coming up behind her and just squeezing her neck in between his arms. She says she thought she was going to pass out but she was able to squirm out of his grip and ran barefoot into a bush in the neighborhood where she hid for what she thought was about two hours. She said when she finally came out of hiding, she saw him walking down the street towards her. They go back to the house and get into another fight. Jane punches Combs in the head and he hits her back twice. So she runs to the backyard but she is blocked in. So she curls up in a ball and just tries to protect her head while Combs punches her head, kicks her and is screaming at her. He takes her by the arm and hair and starts dragging her back to the house. When he lets up, she walks to the bathroom and sees golf ball sized welts on her forehead and a black eye that already started to develop. Combs follows her into the shower and starts slapping her hard in the face, then instructs her to put some ice on it and put an outfit on, lingerie and heels. He then hands her a pill and instructs her to take it because she's not going to, quote, ruin his night. Jane tries to say she doesn't want to take the drugs or perform that night and he curiously asks her is this coercion? He calls one of their recurring entertainers and forces her to perform oral on him for what she says felt like forever while Combs was just watching. Afterwards, Combs doesn't even say anything. He just gets in the car with his security and leaves. Despite how frightening and dangerous this whole incident was, their relationship continued afterward and Jane and Combs started talking about finding a couple's therapist. It wasn't until Combs was arrested in September of 2024 that their relationship fizzled. Jane didn't go into detail on the stand about how exactly they broke up, but she explained that she was subpoenaed as a witness for the prosecution. She also explained that Combs was still paying her rent at the time of the trial and he was even covering her legal fees. Jane also told the court that she had no plans to file a civil suit of her own. But some parts of her testimony seemed to support the case that Combs had engaged in crimes and related to racketeering and sex trafficking. Specifically, she gave detailed testimony of helping to transport specific sex workers across state lines and said Combs sometimes asked her to do drug runs for him. In response, the defense tried to undercut Jane's testimony with many of the same strategies they used while cross examining Cassie Combs. Lawyers, especially Tenny Garagos, spent a lot of time emphasizing the money and gifts Combs had lavished Jane with Garagos, even prodded Jane about the price of a certain handbag, and Jane retorted that you couldn't put a price on what her body had been put through. From there, the defense showed text messages where Jane was helping to plan hotel nights. And that's when Jane reminded the court that she couldn't say no to Combs because she loved him too much and that he was well aware of this. At one point, the defense tried to show a text exchange where Jane said she wasn't in the mood for a hotel night, and Combs replied, all good. However, the prosecution chimed in with their own evidence that he'd texted the escort involved shortly afterwards and told him to help convince Jane to go through with it. This wasn't the only evidence shown on Jane's behalf, either. There were a lot of texts where Jane told Combs that she didn't want to have sex with escorts anymore. There was also audio played from a hotel night where she asked a sex worker to wear a condom, and Combs told the sex worker not to. Altogether. Jane was on the stand for six days over the span of two weeks. Near the end, the defense asked Jane if she still loved Combs, and she said that she did. She also said she was probably praying that he found healing and peace. When Jane was finally done, she stepped down and hugged one of the members of the prosecution. And then, to many people's surprise, she also hugged Tenny Garagos. Weeks later, when the prosecution finished presenting all of their witnesses, the defense made their final argument on June 24. They showed more text messages that they argued showed willing consent from Combs's ex girlfriends, namely Jane and Cassie. From there, they owned up to the domestic violence accusations, but once again said that that was not what the trial was about. Finally, they said that the claims of racketeering were greatly exaggerated. Combs never took the stand in his own defense. Closing arguments took up the next few days. Kristi Slavic presented nearly five hours of testimony in favor of the prosecution. Her powerful opening to these arguments has been widely circulated and goes as follows. Over the last several weeks, you've learned a lot about Sean Combs. He's the leader of a criminal enterprise. He doesn't take no for an answer. And now you know about many crimes the defendant committed with members of his enterprise. Kidnapping of one of the defendant's employees, arson by trying to blow up a car, forced labor, including of an employee the defendant repeatedly essayed. Bribery of a security officer to keep damning evidence against the defendant, buried and of course, the brutal crimes at the heart of this case, sex trafficking. As we talked about in a previous episode, the prosecution was told that arson and kidnapping would no longer be pursued. But that didn't stop them from discussing both of these allegations in detail during their closing statements. To prove racketeering, prosecutors only had to convince the jury that Combs had been guilty of organizing at least two serious crimes with his company's resources. So emphasizing those allegations, along with the drugs, prostitution and bribery would bolster their chances of convincing the jury that Combs was guilty of at least two of those alleged offenses. During closing, Christy Slavik also replayed perhaps the most powerful piece of evidence, the hotel footage. She reminded the court that Cassie wasn't participating in the freak offs willingly and said, quote, this is what happened when Cassie said no. The next day, on June 27, Mark Agnifolo gave the closing remarks for the defense. Agnifolo said Holmes had an unusual sex life, but that being a swinger wasn't a crime. He said that Cassie and Jane were willing participants and pointed out that Cassie in particular walked away with $20 million for her civil suit, which, according to him, made Cassie a woman with agency, not a victim. He also said the case in general was an overreach in the huge spectacle that got blown out of proportion. In the end, though, the heart of Agnifolo's argument was that if Holmes was found guilty, it could set dangerous precedents that would allow law enforcement to interfere in the sex lives of private citizens. Because if the government were allowed to dictate what Combs did in his own private bedroom, that meant that they could do the same to others. With that, it was time for the jury to make a decision and it felt like the whole world was watching.

At the end of June 2025, it was time for the jury to make their decision. They deliberated for 13 hours over the course of three days. The charges of sex trafficking and transportation for the purposes of prostitution were two separate counts, each with the racketeering charge. This meant Combs was facing up to five total charges. If he were found guilty of all charges or even just the racketeering, he could be facing life in prison. The racketeering charge was by far the most serious, but it was also the hardest to prove. Racketeering was a charge originally created to prosecute those very high up in organized crime. It's not a common charge by any means, and there aren't a lot of precedents to go off of. So it was the most tenuous charge in this case from the very start. On the other hand, transportation for the purposes of prostitution was the least risky charge. It was much more common, and there were a lot of legal precedents for it, dating all the way back to 1910, when the Mann act was passed, which specifically prohibits transporting people across state lines for prostitution. Finally, the sex trafficking could really go either way, as it hinged on whether or not the jury felt that the prosecution had proven that Combs knew and recklessly disregarded that the women were only participating because of force, fraud or coercion. There was a lot at stake. Combs convictions could not only set new precedents, but they could rewrite his entire story in the eyes of people who who had admired him for decades. Not only that, but even though the civil suits mounting against him were completely separate from the federal trial, the outcome of the federal trial could likely set a tone moving forward. Most importantly to those who believed the allegations From Capricorn Clark, Kid Cudi, Jane Doe and Cassie Ventura. The final outcome of this trial would be the difference between justice being served and and Combs getting away with criminal acts. Suffice it to say, it was a long three days of deliberations. Then on July 2nd of 2025, the jury announced they'd reached their verdicts. The jury found Combs not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking. I obviously don't agree with the verdict and wish the prosecution focused more on what coercion actually is. Despite the women being able to physically leave, there were elements of force, fraud and coercion that led to these victims participation in these events. When I was listening to Jane's testimony, I was thinking that if nothing in the dynamic changed except the flow of money, people would have probably seen this as sex trafficking. Combs was however, found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. With regard to Jane and Cassie, each count did carry a possible maximum sentence of 10 years. But no matter what, Combs would not spend the rest of his life in prison. For the defense, it was cause for celebration. Combs, lawyers and family all hugged each other when the verdicts were announced. And they weren't the only ones celebrating. There was a crowd of fans outside the courtroom and when they got the news they started chanting free puff. Things got wild fast and soon a woman in a bikini danced while another fan was got on top of a ledge and drizzled baby oil all over her. After the verdict was read, the defense pushed for pre sentencing release and suggested a $1 million bail. But the judge denied it, which meant Combs would go straight to prison. When he got there, though, he was met with a warm welcome. The other inmates greeted him with a standing ovation. Leading up to sentencing, the defense tried to argue for a maximum of 14 months with time served that would have had Combs out in a matter of months. The prosecution, on the other hand, asked for a minimum of 11 years. Combs personally wrote the judge a letter asking for leniency. He said his seven children and his elderly mother depended on him. And on October 3rd he was allowed to plead his case in person. Before the sentence was finalized. Combs lawyers emphasized his importance to the black community and the fact that he'd been working very hard to process his issues. Several of Combs children also took the stand. One son, Quincy Brown, said his father was truly reformed and a different person than he'd ever known. Two of his daughters asked the judge not to take away their father as their mother, Kim Porter had since passed away and they needed Combs. Combs gave a short appeal himself. Speaking in the court for the first time, he apologized to Cassie and Jane, as well as all domestic violence survivors, saying, quote, my actions were disgusting, shameful and sick. I got lost in excess. I got lost in my ego. He also apologized to his fans and community, saying he was sorry he'd let people down. When it came time to read the sentence, the judge addressed Cassie and Jane first and thanked them for their bravery in testifying. He also addressed Combs and thanked him for the charity work he'd done, as well as the care he'd put into raising his family. In the end, the judge sentenced sean combs to 50 months in prison, just over four years, and he was ordered to pay $500,000 in damages. The judge said he hoped the sentence would, quote, send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability. Combs could be out in as soon as two and a half years if he gets an early release for good behavior, though he does have a five year supervision period afterwards. At the same time, Combs lawyers immediately announce their intention to appeal the sentence. In the meantime, all of those other pending civil lawsuits can move forward. Now the world is left to wonder, will Sean Combs lawyers appeal their way out of the first few years he was sentenced to? And there could be further penalties from the dozens of civil lawsuits against him that could maybe lead to more criminal charges down the line. Whatever happens next, we'll be keeping a close eye on all of the updates. One thing's for sure, the story isn't over yet, especially not if 50 Cent has anything to do about it, which he does, because he has an old feud with Combs going back decades and it has to do with one of the most famous rappers to ever live. Sean Combs has had long standing relationships with a ton of high profile and influential people in the music industry. He's been celebrated not just as a tastemaker, but a mentor. One of his most famous partnerships was with a man named Christopher Wallace, who most people know as the Notorious B.I.G. as the story goes, Combs launched Biggie's iconic career in the late 90s. The two men were riding the high of both of their skyrocketing fame. Unfortunately, that feeling wouldn't last much longer. One night in the spring of 1997, they left the Soul Train Awards together. They got in two separate cars and as they drove through the streets of la, Biggie's car fell behind when it reached a red light. While the car was stopped, tragedy unfolded, gunshots rang out and Biggie was killed. To this day, authorities have never figured out who was behind the shooting. However, there's one person who's believed for a long time that Combs was actually behind it, and that's rapper 50 Cent. For years, 50 has released songs and posted unabashedly on social media about how little he respects Combs. That's why few were surprised when 50 spoke out against Combs after the hotel footage of Cassie was released. Then, after the trial of Sean Combs wrapped In June of 2025, 50 Cent announced a surprising new development in their years long rivalry along with an unexpected partner. Despite what anyone may think of Sean Combs, there is one thing no one can deny. That's the fact that he knows how to make money. From discovering new talent to partnering with vodka brands, he always seemed to be on the lookout for new business opportunities. Apparently one of his money making ideas involved taking footage of his own life and career to one day turn it into a documentary. It included video of the days leading up to the trial and Combs strategizing with his defense team. Except he won't ever get the chance to use that footage the way he envisioned because after his trial someone else got their hands on Netflix. The streaming platform worked with none other than rapper and Combs rival 50 Cent to produce their version of the story using that same footage. Before Combs had been sentenced, 50 Cent wrote a letter to the judge saying Combs was dangerous and should be stopped at all costs from potentially harming anyone else ever again. 50 shared that letter on social media in October of 2025, the same time he announced the documentary. Combs team has spoken out against Netflix and accused them of wrongfully obtaining the footage. But that didn't stop the series titled Sean Combs the Reckoning from airing on December 2, 2025. Since airing, some bombshell, allegations from the docuseries have been making the headlines, including things having to do with the death of Biggie Smalls and more details surrounding Combs alleged SA of others. One of the most disappointing parts of the docuseries were the interviews with two of the jurors in the last episode. One older man said that Jane and Cassie could have just left at any time and that they just liked the money and gifts. Another woman said that Combs kept looking back at the jury and every time he would have a reaction to testimony, she said she would be thinking the same thing. Clearly his charm worked on the jury as well. We'll let you take a look at the series for yourselves. Let us know what you think and as always, we'll make sure to keep you updated on any new developments.

Host: Katie Ring (& Crime House Team)
The final installment of Crime House Daily’s deep dive into the trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs centers on the dramatic witness testimony from his former girlfriend (pseudonym Jane Doe), the closing days of the federal trial, and the far-reaching cultural reverberations of the verdict and aftermath. Katie Ring walks listeners through Jane’s harrowing account, major legal arguments, the verdict and sentencing, as well as the high-profile media fallout, including the Netflix docuseries produced by 50 Cent.
(03:28 – 14:08; 17:06 – 27:04)
Coercion and Legal Definitions
“Coercion is using threats, intimidation, pressure or force to get another person to do something they don’t want to do… serious harm means any harm, whether physical or non physical, including psychological, financial or reputational harm.” (03:46)
Nature of the Relationship and ‘Hotel Nights’
“I was just trying to deep dive on all of the reasons that cucks had derived so much pleasure from watching their woman be with other men.” (06:45)
“He’d threatened to cut her off. Now she felt completely forced into it.” (09:50)
Physical and Emotional Toll
“I keep having nightmares about forced nights and all the times I felt like I couldn’t say no.” (12:50; quoting Jane’s text to Combs after Cassie’s lawsuit became public)
Escalation to Violence
“He picked her up in a chokehold… she was on her tippy toes and she remembers him coming up behind her and just squeezing her neck… She says she thought she was going to pass out but she was able to squirm out of his grip and ran barefoot into a bush in the neighborhood where she hid for what she thought was about two hours.” (18:30)
“He punches her head, kicks her... dragging her back to the house… he hands her a pill and instructs her to take it because she’s not going to ‘ruin his night’.” (19:40–20:30)
Aftermath and Courtroom Dynamics
“She also said she was probably praying that he found healing and peace.” (25:25)
“When Jane was finally done, she stepped down and hugged one of the members of the prosecution. And then, to many people’s surprise, she also hugged Tenny Garagos [Combs’s attorney].” (25:45)
(28:35 – 38:58)
Jury Deliberations and Charges Explained
“By far the most serious, but also the hardest to prove... originally created to prosecute those in organized crime; not a common charge.” (28:35)
“The least risky charge... there are a lot of legal precedents for it, dating all the way back to 1910.” (29:26)
Final Outcome
“The jury found Combs not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking… Combs was, however, found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.” (30:05)
“A crowd of fans outside the courtroom started chanting ‘free puff’… a woman in a bikini danced while another fan drizzled baby oil all over her.” (31:00)
Sentencing
“‘My actions were disgusting, shameful and sick. I got lost in excess. I got lost in my ego.’” (32:50; quoting Combs in court)
“‘I hope the sentence will send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.’” (33:30)
Appeal and Future Legal Battles
(34:15 – 38:58)
Celebrity & Public Reaction
“The streaming platform worked with none other than rapper and Combs rival 50 Cent to produce their version of the story using that same footage.” (36:18)
New Controversies from ‘Combs the Reckoning’
“One older man said that Jane and Cassie could have just left at any time and that they just liked the money and gifts. Another woman said… clearly his charm worked on the jury as well.” (37:30)
Lasting Questions
“Whatever happens next, we’ll be keeping a close eye on all of the updates. One thing’s for sure, the story isn’t over yet.” (38:40)
On coercion:
“All of these were present in these relationships. The threat of violence, the threat of leaking the tapes, the threat that they would be cut off financially, and the threat of taking away all of the affection these women begged for so dearly.” (05:45) – Crime House Host
Jane’s description of her trauma:
“I keep having nightmares about forced nights and all the times I felt like I couldn’t say no. The sick part is you knew this was coming and you gaslit me and made me feel crazy about the sex trauma I was developing.” (12:50; quoting Jane’s text)
Courtroom drama:
“At one point, the defense tried to show a text exchange where Jane said she wasn’t in the mood for a hotel night, and Combs replied, all good. However, the prosecution chimed in with their own evidence that he’d texted the escort involved shortly afterwards and told him to help convince Jane to go through with it.” (24:40)
Defense’s closing argument:
“Agnifolo said Combs had an unusual sex life, but that being a swinger wasn’t a crime… the case… was an overreach in the huge spectacle that got blown out of proportion.” (26:40)
Prosecution’s powerful closing:
“‘He’s the leader of a criminal enterprise. He doesn’t take no for an answer. And now you know about many crimes the defendant committed with members of his enterprise…’” (25:55; quoting Kristi Slavik)
Combs’s apology in court:
“‘My actions were disgusting, shameful and sick. I got lost in excess. I got lost in my ego.’” (32:50; quoting Sean Combs)
Judge on sentencing:
“‘I hope the sentence will send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.’” (33:30)
Katie Ring and the Crime House team maintain an incisive, empathetic, and detail-oriented tone throughout, emphasizing the emotional complexity of the witnesses and the legal intricacies of the case, while reserving judgment and urging listeners to consider the evidence presented.
"Night Watch: Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Part 5" delivers a comprehensive narrative on the pivotal final stages of the Combs trial, shining a light on the lived realities of coercive abuse, the challenge of prosecuting high-profile sex crimes, and how celebrity power and public perception intertwine with justice. While the legal process has rendered a partial verdict, the hosts make it clear: with countless civil cases looming and public debate far from settled, the Diddy saga is still unfolding.
