In November 2022, four University of Idaho students — Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin — were stabbed to death in their off-campus house in Moscow, Idaho. Bryan Kohberger, a criminology PhD student, was arrested six weeks later. Last summer, he pleaded guilty to all four murders and was sentenced to four consecutive life terms. On Monday, July 27th, he filed a petition asking a judge to let him withdraw that plea and go to trial — claiming he was "convinced to falsely confess" and telling the New York Times that "actual innocence is my truth." Vanessa walks you through the case, the plea, and the long-shot petition that just reopened one of the country's most closely watched murder cases. If you’re new here, don’t forget to follow Crime House 24/7 to never miss a case! On April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 39 years old. The killing triggered unrest in more than a hundred American cities and altered the course of the civil rights movement. Two months later, a small-time criminal named James Earl Ray was arrested in London and charged with the murder. He pleaded guilty, then almost immediately recanted, claiming he had been part of a larger conspiracy. King's own family eventually came to believe him. In this episode of Conspiracy Theories, Cults, & Crimes, Vanessa Richardson revisits the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and the questions that have never gone away. For more stories like these, follow Conspiracy Theories, Cults, and CrimesIf you’re new here, don’t forget to follow Crime House 24/7 to never miss a case! On July 18th, U.S. Marshals arrested Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami on a sealed warrant tied to a United Kingdom extradition request. The brothers — dual American-British citizens and two of the most-argued-about names on the internet — are facing 59 combined criminal charges in the UK, including rape, human trafficking, and offenses involving indecent images of a child. Separately, they've been indicted in Romania on trafficking and organized-crime charges dating back to 2023, with new charges added just this month. They deny all of the accusations. Vanessa walks you through four years of investigation across three countries, and the extradition fight that just began in Florida. If you’re new here, don’t forget to follow Crime House 24/7 to never miss a case! In January 2012, 32-year-old Irasema Chavez-Sanchez was stabbed more than 100 times inside her Arlington, Texas apartment. Investigators had a single droplet of the killer's blood — but no match. The case went cold for 14 years. This month, Arlington police arrested 42-year-old Mayra Velasquez, a real estate agent and one of Irasema's close friends. The break came from FBI genetic genealogy and a discarded plastic fork Velasquez left behind at lunch. She's been charged with capital murder and says she's completely innocent. Vanessa walks you through the killing, the 14-year gap, and the DNA technology that finally attached a name to the blood at the scene. If you’re new here, don’t forget to follow Crime House 24/7 to never miss a case! This afternoon, Vanessa is bringing you a preview from another Crime House show: America's Most Infamous Crimes, hosted by Katie Ring. Each week, Katie dives into a three-part story on some of the most notorious crimes in American history. In this episode: the Rajneesh movement. In 1981, a spiritual leader known as the "sex guru" moved thousands of followers to an abandoned ranch in rural Oregon and built an entire city from scratch. Part 1 traces the origins of the movement, the woman who really ran it, and how a town of 75 people was legally taken over and renamed. In February 2023, 35-year-old Matthew Overby — a Chattanooga father of six — was shot nine times as he sat in his own pickup truck. Prosecutors say the man who killed him, Jamal Adams, had stabbed Overby months earlier — and murdered him to keep him from testifying in that case. On July 17th, a Hamilton County jury convicted Adams of first-degree murder and sentenced him to life without parole. Then he flipped the defense table, screamed for his mother, and had to be wrestled down by court officers. Adams is now facing five new criminal charges from the outburst. Vanessa walks you through the case, the trial, and the courtroom scene no one saw coming. If you’re new here, don’t forget to follow Crime House 24/7 to never miss a case! This afternoon, Vanessa is bringing you a preview from another Crime House show: Murder: True Crime Stories, hosted by Carter Roy. In this episode, Carter traces the story of Gordon Stewart Northcott — a 19-year-old who, in 1926, convinced his parents to buy him three acres outside Los Angeles under the pretense of raising chickens. What he actually built there became one of the most disturbing crime scenes in California history. Part 1 covers Northcott's troubled childhood and the desert property where his violence would soon spiral out of control. Please note: this episode contains descriptions of sexual violence, torture, and murder, and may not be suitable for all audiences. In April 2011, 27-year-old real estate agent Ashley Okland was alone at an open house in West Des Moines, Iowa when someone walked in, shot her twice, and walked out. The case stayed cold for nearly 15 years. This spring, a grand jury indicted 53-year-old Kristin Ramsey — a longtime local who worked for the developer that built the townhome. Ramsey has pleaded not guilty. Last Friday, her attorneys filed a 44-page motion to dismiss, arguing the entire case rests on a single neighbor whose story kept changing over 15 years. Vanessa walks you through the case, the indictment, and the motion that could throw it all out.If you’re new here, don’t forget to follow Crime House 24/7 to never miss a case!
