A Penn State grad described as a creative and artistic spirit, Kada was wearing black scrubs when she arrived at her 10pm to 6am shift. But shortly after arriving, she disappeared without a trace. Her cell phone has gone dead. Her social media accounts are silent and her car still parked outside the facility and troubling. There is no surveillance cameras on site. Captain John Craig, a detective with the Northwest Police Department, says the circumstances are deeply concerning. He said, you have a 23 year old young lady who has completely disappeared. No cell phone activity, no social media, no contact with family or friends. Her mother, Kim Matthews, is gripped by fear.

B
Adding to the urgency, police say Kada had reported being harassed by an unknown individual via phone in the days leading up to her disappearance. She didn't name anyone, but detectives are actively investigating. Captain Craig said there are a hundred pieces to the puzzle.

Federal authorities have unmasked the alleged arsonist behind the devastating Palisades fire. Charging a 29 year old former Uber driver whose digital footprint included a disturbing conversation with ChatGPT Dark AI generated images and a fixation on French rap about fire Jonathan Rindernecht of Melbourne, Florida was arrested nine months after the catastrophe scorched over 23,000 acres, claimed 12 lives and destroyed 6,837 structures. Here's Bill Asali, acting U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, at the news conference.
C
Though homes and businesses cannot be rebuilt, this arrest, we hope, will provide a measure of justice to all those who were impacted.

In court Thursday, a shackled red jumpsuit wearing render neck listened as federal officials argued he was a flight risk due to having family in France. Prosecutors also cited his quote, traits of an arsonist as well as his family's deep concerns over his declining mental health. Federal investigators state Rindernecht allegedly used an open flame, likely a lighter, to spark the lockman fire on January 1st. Though quickly contained by firefighters, documents state the blaze continued to smolder underground, creating the deadly holdover condition. A week later on January 7, powerful high speed Santa Ana winds caused the deep seated embers to erupt, turning the smoldering brush into the raging Palisades fire. The criminal complaint paints a portrait of of a calculated act. Investigators allege that just hours before allegedly setting fire to vegetation, Rinder Knecht, who himself lived in the Palisades, was driving Uber passengers who described him as being, quote, agitated and angry. Here's US Attorney Asale again.
C
He dropped someone off. He was in this neighborhood and he went up to this hilltop around 12:12am he ignited a fire. He was the only person in this location at the time this fire ignited. We have no other indication that any other person was there. There were no fireworks at the time.
A
The trail of evidence grew cold until feds tapped into his disturbing online history. Rindernecht allegedly asked the AI Chatbot the sinister question of quote, are you at fault if a fire is lit because of your cigarettes? End quote. He also reportedly generated images on the platform depicting a, quote, burning forest and a quote dystopian painting showing a burning city. End quote. Months later, he then allegedly confessed to the bot writing quote, I literally burnt the Bible that I had. It felt amazing. I felt so liberated. End quote. Further intensifying the digital depravity of Rindernecht, who officials say was obsessed with fire, was reportedly listening to a French rap song on repeat. The music video for the song shows the artist lighting items on fire. Despite Rendernecht's claims to investigators that he merely reported the fire from the bottom of the trail, geolocation data from his iPhone placed him 30ft from the origin point as the fire rapidly grew, investigators say. After fleeing the scene, he allegedly turned his car around, followed the fire engines back and filmed the firefighters at work. Renderknecht is charged with destruction of property by means of fire, which carries a maximum of 20 years in federal prison if convicted. However, as the LA County District Attorney stated, the investigation continues to and more charges are pending the outcome of that investigation. Again, 12 people lost their lives, which means Rindernecht could be facing 12 counts of felony murder. Rindernecht has no prior criminal history. He relocated to Florida following the Los Angeles inferno. A federal magistrate in Florida ordered him held without bond. He remains locked in Seminole County Jail awaiting an evidence hearing set for October 17th. The Palisades fire is one of the costliest urban wildfires in U.S. history, with an estimated $150 billion in damages.

I'm Sydney Sumner. A Texas woman was convicted this week of killing her diabetic husband in 2023 through neglect as he suffered from an insulin overdose. A jury found Sarah Jean Hartsfield, 50, guilty of murder. On Wednesday, Hartsfield was arrested after staff at Houston Methodist Hospital noted suspicious circumstances surrounding Joseph's death. In January 2023, prosecutors presented evidence showing that Joseph's blood sugar dropped to dangerously low levels over several hours on January 7th. Sarah Hartsfield claimed she was sleeping while this happened, but her cell phone activity showed her on several apps during that time and step tracking software showed her up and moving around. Additionally, Joseph's glucose monitor went off more than 100 times, each time alerting Hartsfield's cell phone. Prosecutors acknowledged that they could not prove Sarah Jean Hartsfield had given her husband an overdose of insulin herself, but witnesses testified they believed that's what happened. The jury took less than an hour to convict. Joseph Hartsfield was Sarah Jean Hartsfield's fifth husband. She previously shot a fiance to death in Minnesota. She claimed self defense and was never charged for David Bragg's death. Hartsfield was also accused of pressuring an earlier husband to kill the new wife of an ex husband in 2021 in Arizona amid a custody dispute over their children. Hartsfield has a history of allegations that she abused and threatened former lovers. In 1996, police in Houston arrested Hartsfield after she and her then second husband got into a physical argument in their apartment. Hartsfield was charged with assault, but prosecutors dropped the case a week later for unknown reasons. The woman's husband at the time, who had been bruised and scraped, received a citation. He said the pair were married between 1996 and 1997 and that he wanted to forget that period of his life, which he described as miserable. The jury sentenced Sarah Hartsfield to life in prison and to pay a $10,000 fine.

I'm Drew Nelson, A former Idaho pastor accused of using his church role to traffic and sexually abuse women, is out on bond as his next crime court date nears. Gregory Wayne Jones, who was once a pastor at Liberty Christian Fellowship Church and director of NXT Dream center in Mountain Home, is charged with human sex trafficking and sexual penetration with a foreign object. He posted a $1 million bond in June after his arrest in April. His next court appearance is set for December 5th. Court records say Jones used his position as a pastor to manipulate and assault women under the guise of what he called spiritual healing. One victim was under 18. The Idaho Statesman reported that investigators accused Jones of using his authority to control and exploit members of his congregation, describing his influence over victims as, quote, a tremendous level of control. Whitney Owens, a former volunteer at NXT Dream center, tells Kivi she worked alongside Jones for about a year. She said she now sees the warning signs she missed.
A
He was given a gift to lead in the church, and yet he used it to take advantage of many people.
C
Owens says Jones never required her to pass a screening before she worked with children.
A
He never asked me to get a background check. I worked with these children for 20 hours a week and I never had a background check. How many people were working with my child who never had a background check?
C
Owens joined survivors outside the Elmore County Courthouse to show support for the victims who came forward.
A
Being so vulnerable, allowing myself to be there so, so much of the time, not asking questions about the red flags that were there that it could have happened to me.
C
Prosecutors say the alleged abuse happened at the church and its child care facility between 2014 and 2024. Jones, who is a former Air Force serviceman, once honored as Person of the Year in Mountain home pleaded not guilty. A judge later denied a plea deal. In August, the Elmore County Sheriff's Office commended the courage of those who came forward and believes more victims may be out there.
