Our special guest, Becca Scott. Folks, we're going to get into this in one second, but as always, spoilers ahead for the latest episode of Goblin Mode. Yeah, a lot of combat and a lot of lore condensed into a single episode for what was effectively we were in one room, but a lot.

[Danielle Radford]

Yes, I. That went by so freaking fast to me. Like, I mean, I don't know how y'all are feeling. But, yeah, you're just doing. You're doing math. You're, like, running through combat, and then all of a sudden, Dan's guessing your very wish that you thought no one would know. Like, but then. But you remember that you dropped a seed ages ago, and then you're crying, so. Yeah, yeah, there's some feelings happening for sure.

[Dan Casey]

Look, I came into this campaign with one Go make Amy cry.

[Amy Vorpahl]

We just went at it different ways.

[Danielle Radford]

No, that is, like, when. I mean, really, you hear me? Go. Wait, how do you know that? When did I. What happened? When I said that. And you know, you've all. I know that you got the hint. I guess I just want to hear from you, like, how are you piecing this together? Because I actually still am. Flummox.

[Dan Casey]

From my perspective, I did take kind of a swing in the dark. A lot of this has been about us seeking out the Sundari or their avatars or people that are connected to them. So this entity seemed very powerful, encased in this giant rare crystal, something that, to me, would be worth a fortune or you'd be very lucky to find it. Then your description to Danielle when Busy entered the radiance of the cotton candy pink light was that she felt possibility, like, anything could happen. She felt fortuitous. And I was like, okay, this reminds. Like, I remember, I was, like, really excited when we did that pillar puzzle back in Erdkur Fathom because we learned these Sundari's names previously, we only knew a couple, and now we got to learn who they are and their appellations, like Arsenia, sovereign of grace. Tha, sovereign of valor. Or Denft, sovereign of healing. Sadaf, sovereign of nature. Ariadne, sovereign of wisdom. And my favorite, because it bucks tradition, Wanderer's fortune. That to me, it sounds like I was like, I have to meet this person. And where better than this place that really, like, embodies the idea of fortune and prosperity in the wake of, as we learned last episode, what we called the Searing, this catastrophic, cataclysmic event they called the settling, because they got to settle in and really build their settlement here amidst all of this endless fortune, all these gems. So I just kind of took a shot in the dark and was hoping.

That I was right. That's so smart.

[Jason Nguyen]

A lot of people joke that you can't win D and D, but you did. In fact, I think you deserve D&D.1.

[Dan Casey]

I solved one mystery, and I will now die. Next episode.

There was. I knew that maybe you might put two and two together. That, oh, this is a Sundara. Like, what if this is a Sundari? And I was like, oh, that would be cool if they knew that. But to freaking nail it on the head with yubis deca. There's also, like, extra lore that there are five that are really well known, and then there's this random sixth that kind of isn't really talked about. There also is only five articles. Five magic items, basically, not a sixth one. And so for you to guess, Euthys, who is the kind of redheaded stepchild, is really freaking cool.

[Becca Scott]

Yeah, well done.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah, well done.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Very well done.

[Jason Nguyen]

Anyway, and I'm so glad that the settling. Obviously the dwarven word for this hearing.

Right. Of course.

That was not Becca. Just forgetting the word became canon and helped you on your path.

[Dan Casey]

But I like that because, like, it was organic, and it's just like, okay. Actually, this is kind of a cool way to look at what potentially, for the rest of the world, if it's this, like, isolationist colony, what they could potentially do. Like, oh, for us, it was that we just settled in. We formed our settlement here, and now we're, like, this major trade hub. So, yeah, I'm excited to see where this leads. I admit I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get to see where Tippy's plan led.

[Jason Nguyen]

Okay.

[Amy Vorpahl]

It just goes to show difference in play styles.

[Jason Nguyen]

What was Tippy's plan?

[Danielle Radford]

What was Tippy?

[Amy Vorpahl]

Well, listen, Tippi's plan, not understanding that there might be something very precious and important to the story and to the realm in general inside, was to catapult a stick of dynamite right into the middle and just pray that that worked, because to me, I was like, well, there's like. You know, my mind didn't immediately go to, like, oh, this is something good inside. Until the pink stuff started happening in my mind. I was like, well, when I looked at it with a scope, it was like, okay, it speaks abyssal, which usually isn't a good. That means demon stuff. And then it's glowing red, and then there's these weird flesh imp demons all over it.

[Dan Casey]

It was a good context.

[Amy Vorpahl]

I was like, well, I'm just gonna blow the whole damn thing up. I mean, that feels like it'll work.

[Dan Casey]

My hope was that it would have just blown Euthus out of her painite crystal prison. But who knows? Maybe you would just set the record straight and people would go back to think there's only five Sundari.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Imagine the scene where we're just standing over Euth Corpse being, like, wanderer's fortune.

[Dan Casey]

Yeah.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah. I'm gonna need a week to clean up.

[Dan Casey]

That's when you make a decision. You're playing a video game, then all of a sudden it says, quest failed. And you're like, what did I just do that caused this?

[Amy Vorpahl]

So I love that you gave me the Sanctuary exfoliation because.

[Jason Nguyen]

Thank you for volunteering.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah. It would have been way worse had.

[Danielle Radford]

I not had the Sanctuary.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah.

It's been extremely dead.

The only thing stopping you from completely wrecking this entire thing and the Tsundari is the fact that if you did, you would no longer be protected.

True, true, true, true.

[Jason Nguyen]

An important thing to bring up is Pocari's jealousy, since we're talking about exfoliation.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah. Listen, it wasn't that deep. Pokara.

[Danielle Radford]

So, you know, it's just a little. You definitely clock spell. It's hard to not clock a big old dwarf rubbing a gem all over your exposed flesh.

[Amy Vorpahl]

But just think about how unsexy Tippi would have made it. You know what I mean? It's like Jem, he's wincing.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah. Unsexy. Probably ticklish.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Ticklish Tears in his eyes for no reason.

[Danielle Radford]

Just dense. But you don't know of a car as attraction. True. Like Picard is discomfort.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Listen, not gonna yuck or yum. Okay.

[Danielle Radford]

I do love to that. Well, busy. Got the first look at the little light, the little shining light that flowed out and arguably was going to help. And you had that amazing move to communicate with the being inside and draw that connection.

[Becca Scott]

Yeah. Cause I don't have anything else that's useful in this moment. There's nothing I can't. I can do a sneak attack with a dart on a swarm of animals looking at all of my spells. There's really nothing else that I could. You know, I tried to distract them. They are drawn to the magic and to the feeling. They weren't drawn by anything visual or anything like that. So it really was. I would love to take the credit and be like, oh, it's because I'm, like, super smart and empathetic. There was nothing else for me to do.

[Danielle Radford]

I love that.

[Jason Nguyen]

That's where creative moves come from.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah, exactly.

[Becca Scott]

That was my only move. And so those were my two. It was like, get that. See if I can talk to the jammer. As we now know. But as we thought at the time, just the center of the chaos. And then tried, dear God, not to lose Tippi again.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah, he did take. I mean, you still took, I think, the most damage. And it was all friendly fire.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Man, it was all from my homies.

[Danielle Radford]

Yes.

[Becca Scott]

Me and you battled for who? Ticket. Because I took at the. When I healed myself, I was at half damage.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah. For some reason, that's like the only. Yeah, you. These things are so weak. It's just that there are a lot of them. But yeah, they really. They got after you. But thank goodness you finally have a cleric in your group.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Very useful.

I will say got. Frieda is an NPC that I get to control that can, you know, that could figure that out, that can reveal things. But no, it's not, because I thought you were dumb or couldn't figure it out. But no, I was unsmart when I was. No, it really was. I was like, I don't think I've given them enough. Like, planted enough seeds. I didn't even look. I didn't even think about it. I was like, there's no way that they're gonna know this. I didn't. If I did anything, I buried the lead, and maybe they would pick up that, you know, Asa the Sundari. Maybe they would pick up that he's got the artifact from her, because there was a whole scene there. But yeah, Euthys was like a name on a bullet pointed list. And I was like, yeah, that's kind of it. So. No, absolutely not. Not in my wildest dreams. If you couldn't tell from my, like, facial expression. And then. And then, yeah, we're like on a show, but I'm like, whispering like, hey, how did you. How did you.

[Dan Casey]

How did you know this?

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah. Who told you? I was like, is this the character?

[Danielle Radford]

Is this Amy?

[Amy Vorpahl]

I could not tell.

Babes had a really fascinating conversation with Yunk Jagger before they left. Deep regional religion and theology.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah, I mean, I want to talk more about the battle, but it's kind of like, how do you top. How do you top a player going so deep, taking great notes and getting something right that you were like, wait, what? Like, how. We're like, we're coming to the end of this season, unfortunately. But it does feel like it just blew my mind that you. We're now. You and I, in that moment were speaking the same language and maybe had been all along, but, yeah, it's pretty magical. Highly recommend that. I don't know how you do it.

[Dan Casey]

But, yeah, just take notes, kids. That's all you have to do.

[Danielle Radford]

You did tell me at the beginning of the game, you're like, I'm gonna take notes. And I was like, oh, well, you don't want to spend all your time. It's gonna be on camera. Maybe you don't have to spend all your time, like, writing stuff down or anything like that. And you're like, no, no, no. I think it's important. I've played in games before, and the person who does take the notes, like, really, really triumphs. And I was like, okay, okay. But I didn't. I couldn't have ever guessed that it was gonna end in a cry fest.

[Dan Casey]

My most recent campaign, that I played my home game. I took zero notes, and I always felt like an ass. And it was an npc. We'd met a hundred times before, and I'm like, hey, it's Jeff, I guess.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah, yeah.

[Dan Casey]

It felt like it deflated some of the moments and deflated some of the potential for drama. And I didn't wanna do that here because I know how hard you've worked on this, and it makes me more invested too. And I'm like, well, okay, this is probably gonna be important. I like to write down the silly stuff as well. Cause it makes me laugh when I read my notes again. Like, all the goblin names.

[Danielle Radford]

Yes.

[Dan Casey]

Like, who wouldn't want to revisit Mudja Bumphrad, like, six months from now? But I also want to make sure I'm not forgetting the big, important stuff because it's been seeded since episode one. Literally, the very first conversation we overheard the yesterdusters, like, talking about these relics. That spoiler became very important to our lives and the fate of the world. So I'm trying to be an active player and pay attention with this.

[Danielle Radford]

Well, hell yes. I don't know. I think I would give you inspiration, but I apparently don't use that mechanic, so.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Oh, we don't need it.

[Dan Casey]

It's more interesting. I don't need inspiration. Let the dice do the talking. I'm too blessed.

Well, Amy made a big face and I don't know what that means.

Oh, I know. Not pure chaos. I think we already have a chaos agent. I'm not trying, I promise. No, I would say. Sorry. That face was just because Becca's a shenanigans lady.

Okay. You're a connoisseur of the shenanigans.

We can curse it.

[Jason Nguyen]

Yes. I come to it up because I was given a cleric. I was like, I will do. I will try and choose responsible spells instead of just throwing dynamite into the middle of a pile. But that is my preferred place.

It's nice to know there's another like minded person.

I'm giving you this dynamite because it's what I want to do.

Well, because you have Rangers get familiars and then they just get these familiars that kind of can fly and see things or they can maybe attack a little. But it's like you get kind of two familiars. They each can attack and do damage on very, I think the homunculus axes independently of you.

I could cast my spells through it.

Yeah. And it's like, okay, okay, okay, okay. Like when he first got these spells and he was saying, hey, I get this, I get this. And my text back was like, what? No, no. Ha ha. No. What? What's happening now?

On April 4th and 5th, we will be descending upon the campus of Torrance High School, which was the filming location for Buffy's Sunnydale High, to dance the night away to 90s music in the iconic courtyard, to sip on punch right next to the Sunnydale High fountain, and to nerd out together in our prom best inside of the set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
