From the righteous gemstones to the frighteous neck bones, this is sagas of sundry Goblin mode, and specifically, sagas of quests and answers. I'm Dan Casey, and today we're gonna break down the latest episode of Goblin mode. But to join me, I have my amazing cast as always, Danielle Radford, Amy.
Danielle Radford
Vorpahl, Jason Nguyen, and our special guest, Becca Scott.
Dan Casey
All right, folks, I have to warn you, there are going to be a ton of spoilers for the latest Goblin mode in this episode. So if you haven't listened to Goblin mode or watched Goblin mode yet, please go back and do that, because I don't want to ruin anything for you. With that said, let's get into it. Holy Amy.
Danielle Radford
Oh, no. Dang it, dang it, dang it. All you had to do was stay in the words of Taylor Swift.
Dan Casey
I don't know that bard.
Danielle Radford
Yes. How about that? How about that? You got some good stuff, though.
Dan Casey
Promotion.
Danielle Radford
Got a promotion.
Dan Casey
Well, kind of.
Amy Vorpahl
It's a temporary promotion. And when they find out that the Sundari is gone, I don't think that ofred's gonna let me keep that.
Danielle Radford
Yeah, yeah. Rip or not living up to my potential.
Amy Vorpahl
So that's good.
Danielle Radford
I will say that having Euthus be buried in fit fiddle delve, hiding out like a little bitch.
Dan Casey
Whoa.
Jason Nguyen
Okay.
Danielle Radford
No. That was one of the first things I wrote when building this campaign.
Dan Casey
Cool.
Danielle Radford
And what's interesting about that is once I was prepping for this episode and last episode, it almost was like, oh, yeah. And then they. Okay. And then they find youth as their. You know, that's fine. Like, it was so matter of fact.
Dan Casey
Cause I knew.
Danielle Radford
I've known about it for months, but it actually is, like, when you think about it, it's actually more weighty to have it, you know, have a deity that. We've dropped hints that there was a sixth one, and it somehow didn't die. Like, that is more weighty than even Eunzug showing up. And it's like, oh, yeah, of course. Like it matters. But in my head, since I had planned it for so long, it was kind of like, oh, yeah, yeah. And then this thing happens.
Dan Casey
Yeah. That was the abyssal that Danielle, that Bizzy translated back in when we were in Earned Kerr Fathom. I think it was like.
Danielle Radford
No, no, In. It was in the Wretched Cove. It was in the Wretched Cove in the document.
Dan Casey
Okay, right. The document that you translated. Sorry, we're heading to Erdkurf Athen.
Danielle Radford
I apologize.
Dan Casey
I think it was combine the five to restore Firaxis, the Landing Ritual Room, and Fitfettle Delve. Why six, but only five?
Becca Scott
Yeah.
Dan Casey
Yeah.
Danielle Radford
Why six Sundari but only five artifacts?
Nerds Gummy Clusters
Yes.
Danielle Radford
Yeah. And this was what. The question that the Scythe of Irelia have been asking themselves. And now you know why.
Amy Vorpahl
There is a sixth.
Danielle Radford
There is a sixth. That's why. Yeah. And there actually are six artifacts, as it turns out, too. Yeah.
Dan Casey
That luck stone.
Danielle Radford
The Luck stone.
Jason Nguyen
The Luck stone.
Danielle Radford
That was a clutch move. Like, scrying is so cool, so dope. It's like. It's one of those. It's one of those things in DD that you do not want your players to have. You just don't. Like, you just don't. And in fact, when you decided to scry, it was like, this episode might be over. You know, I might need to dive into what's, like, the prep for the next episode. We just end it here. But it was so cool that you were able to just use it and use it in a really cool way and then come back and, like, feel the weight of, like, everything that tell your friends and they agree. Like, I don't think anything that we thought we knew is true.
Dan Casey
It's one of those things where you've given us so many awesome magical items. And it's definitely something that I struggle with when I play a lot of RPGs, tabletop or otherwise. You hoard all of these items and sometimes forget to make use of them. And I was just like, I cannot not make use of these incredible abilities. I need to scry at least once. Who can I scry on? I almost tried to scry on. I almost tried to scry on. The tsundari. We met at the beginning of the game because she went to another realm, but I was like, arsena. Okay, maybe check on Undzug. Cause it sounded pretty sus at this point.
Becca Scott
You got the ability to SCRY that came from Unzoo, right?
Dan Casey
No, that came from the tattoo of Krass the king, which is Arsena's gift. We helped her way back when. No, the gift that Unzu gave me is the staff of Roll Bear, which lets me turn into a tree, which I cannot wait to.
Danielle Radford
Which is just as good. You never know.
Dan Casey
You never know it's gonna happen. Just wait.
Jason Nguyen
You have to use it.
Dan Casey
Yeah.
Amy Vorpahl
So the painite crystal we should have brought with us and then everything would have been hunky dory.
Danielle Radford
Oh, that's interesting. Yeah. I mean, honestly, maybe slightly longer the notion that it is. She is basically being charged by batteries while she's in fitfiddle delve it just that logic made a lot of sense to me that like, okay, centuries old and she's still able to protect everybody, but now she's just gonna have this huge awakening and kind of without really any consequence. Absolutely not. What about this makes any sense at all? And it's like she's weak as hell. The only reason she's got sustenance is because she's channeling all of these gems. And once she gets attention, yeah, of course, that's like radiating her. That's radiating her power more. The gems are talking to each other like a network. Great, great, great. You remove her from the network, even just a little bit, and it's like, yeah, cut the cord, man.
Becca Scott
No more signal. She's lost.
Danielle Radford
Oh, my gosh, she's. I mean, to me, that's like. She's been hiding and withering for centuries. She's gone.
Dan Casey
I think fibs probably read way too much into her appellation. She is Euthys Wanderer's fortune, not like basement dwellers fortune.
Danielle Radford
There you go.
Jason Nguyen
But yeah, I think I had the same thought. I was like, well, surely being outside and is gonna recharge her and finally being in the world that she helped protect and make is gonna bigger, stronger.
Dan Casey
But no, I do love that beat of false hope, though. And then like, you know, the thing that we kind of maybe anticipated deep down was going to happen with our boss maybe didn't have the purest of intentions. But even so, it's true to our characters to be like, well, we simply must continue regardless because we have to try to recharge her.
Danielle Radford
Yeah, yeah. And I think. And I think, I mean, you're right that like, yeah, being out in the open is gonna be eventually like the cure. It's just. She's too weak. She's far gone, man. She's too weak. Yeah, I do like that. There were hints of, like, Unzik might not be who he says he was. So it doesn't matter. What we're gonna do is still go forward and save youth is the best way we know how. And honestly, that is the best way you know how. It's just Unzik might be a couple steps ahead of y'all, that's all.
Becca Scott
Yeah.
Dan Casey
I also want to talk about the big moment we had where family reunion in the conference room.
Danielle Radford
I think. Yeah. Busy had just a huge episode. Yeah.
Becca Scott
And I think for Busy, Busy, still Busy very much sees herself as busy and not berygneous at all.
Danielle Radford
But you were so open to be called a mother and, like, be reminded of the berygneus flaws. You're like, yeah, yeah, of course. Yeah, she sucked.
Becca Scott
But I'm not. I've moved on, and I moved forward from, like, her mistakes, and I do think. But there is definitely a fondness for her for B6, just because, like, B6 is. And again, it's not that thing of, like, oh, we're related by blood, because even then, like, who cares? I have family that I have found through the Terror Squad. And we are not related by blood. We are related by terror. And so Busy's affection for B6 is very much because of the things that they have in common as people. Because if B6 wasn't, as. And honestly, as nice and as sweet and as giving and as caring and as nurturing, along with all of her fantastic managerial skills, those are the things that's what binds Busy to her. And I also think that that's also a huge part of why letting go of Unzu was hard. But it wasn't the worst, because, again, Busy's got her. And as much clout and as much as she gave to Unzoog and wanting to be at the right hand and all of those things, again, if you think of him as our dungeon daddy.
Danielle Radford
And I do.
Becca Scott
And I do. What else would we think of this word for it? Again, I think Busy is starting to learn, as she is in the world, that family is made and certain things are earned. And B6 is now family because that is earned, and those are now earned experiences. And Unzoo, the more that you hear, the more that Busy realizes she didn't know this dude at all. And so as much as it's sad and it's a real big bummer that this is, he's not gonna turn out to be maybe the good or the reformed person as maybe we were hoping he was by the fact that he was Nice to a goblin once, really. The bar. The bar is in the dirt. It's eas.
Jason Nguyen
That's a real tell right there.
Becca Scott
Yeah, it was.
Danielle Radford
So you'll play your characters all so well with that. Just like the innate trust of like, yeah, he is. He's Unzoog. And of course, like, it's hard to beat it out of your system that Unzoog is great. And so the trust, even as you said last time that it was, you were kind of vibing against him as players, but as characters, it was like, yeah, we're still on team Unzoog. And then. And then this is the episode where it's like, well, yeah, your world almost shatters with Dan's with fibs scrying.
Dan Casey
Yeah. I mean, how else can you afford a 3,000 to 4,000 square foot marble mansion?
Jason Nguyen
Only treachery. The only way.
Dan Casey
Celestial treachery.
Becca Scott
You're looking at it from the view of we are servants and our life and everything that we've ever known is to serve this person. Then why wouldn't he have us serve him in even just this small way when we've. I mean, look, we've been like footstools. Like, we've done way more degrading things than pack his underwear and his protein covered blankets. So why wouldn't he have done this unless he was being sneaky? It is very much like seeing it through, like the eyes of someone who was like a servant. And it's like, well, then why, why now? Why would that be the exception?
Dan Casey
Tune in to the six part podcast, Uncovering Unzu.
Danielle Radford
Oh my gosh. Well, what about y'all's obsession with freaking titles?
Amy Vorpahl
Oh, what about the High Council?
Jason Nguyen
Yes, the High Council.
Amy Vorpahl
Touchy about asking for titles.
Jason Nguyen
Yeah, that was like a big, big monologue for me about getting a promotion. Yeah, what's up?
Dan Casey
I thought everything was working out for B6, and all of a sudden I.
Amy Vorpahl
Thought it was my big coronation day. I thought this was my.
Dan Casey
My old friend was like, goes off.
Amy Vorpahl
You went too far. I'm taking everything away. Vacation, canceled. Everything away.
Danielle Radford
But like.
Jason Nguyen
Cause it went from. I want to be clear. It went from like, dang it. To like, no way, hold on.
Dan Casey
I've been outsmarted again.
Jason Nguyen
Huge speech about earning your place in your job.
Becca Scott
It makes again, our characters might be of a mood of like, wait, hold on. But again, if you are my father's daughter, if you are my great, great, great, great grandkid, and there are things that have been passed down, something that Berygnius the OG struggled against was putting her own ambition and her own selfishness, like, above other people. Like, yeah, it sucks that she lived in a society where there were certain roles expected of her, but she still did that. And she still owes something to the people who she played that role for. So it is a good lesson to learn about not being selfish and you don't get to just ask for things. But also in that moment, it's very much like, okay, but she's kind of been doing the job for a while. We look at it as, like, look, I know y'all are seeing it as though this is like, she had one moment, but she has been working at this for a really long time.
Amy Vorpahl
Yeah. My thought is that Berygneus is ambitious. It goes with the super type A, the organized and just the dwarf lifestyle, if you will. And the fear maybe comes about. We haven't seen B5 and beef around. And I think that they died in battle.
Danielle Radford
Ooh. Yeah.
Amy Vorpahl
And so there is that.
Jason Nguyen
I loved. I just want to props to you both. Like, I love that scene between the two Berygneuses. And I felt bad. Cause I felt like I was a little bit blowing up your spot as Tippi.
Becca Scott
No, it had to happen. Because if it wasn't, then it was gonna need to happen sometime before we left.
Danielle Radford
Yeah.
Jason Nguyen
I just felt like, you know, like.
Becca Scott
Tippi being in here, that's a really good job.
Amy Vorpahl
Bring. I was like, oh, yeah. Great. Yeah, we have to do this.
Becca Scott
We gotta do this. Yeah. That 100%.
Jason Nguyen
Well, just as he's an idiot, so he's gonna think that, like, wow, you seem real lame right now, talking in front of your ancestors like that.
Danielle Radford
Yeah.
Dan Casey
You knew we were saying, dang it.
Becca Scott
In front of literally look like, mommy.
Danielle Radford
Do you know who she is?
Dan Casey
All circumstance, no pomp, please.
Jason Nguyen
But it was a great speech about, like, you don't have to fill my shoes. You don't have to be in my shadow.
Amy Vorpahl
She needed to hear that.
Jason Nguyen
Yeah. I thought it was nice. I thought it was nice.
Amy Vorpahl
Cause all her. But part of the thing is that she has kind of downplayed her fame. Because everybody in the whole delve is all about Berygnus and is always like, this is what you're supposed to live up to. And she didn't want to until she actually met you. And you said, you know what? You don't have to. And then it was like, well, now.
Becca Scott
I kind of want to.
Dan Casey
Now that I know I don't have to, I actually do. This is what I really want.
Amy Vorpahl
If it's my choice.
Dan Casey
Yeah.
Becca Scott
It opens you up.
Dan Casey
It's gotta be freeing.
Becca Scott
Yeah. To be able to like explore the possibility when it's not something where it's like forced down your throat.
Dan Casey
And I love the contrast that creates where you like B6 is dealing with sort of like the crushing weight of history bearing down upon her. But then there's also Tippy, who is like humblest of humble origins, Just this little wretch from a faraway dungeon, who is this important part of a potentially world ending prophecy.
Becca Scott
Yeah, it's your throat, goat.
Jason Nguyen
I got snatched. I got snatched from my throat. What's going on here? I asked for this.
Danielle Radford
What did you say? I miss it. I always miss it.
Jason Nguyen
You turn your head.
Danielle Radford
No, you turn your head to Danielle.
Jason Nguyen
Because I try to say it under my breath.
Danielle Radford
This is like the 40th time. Danielle.
Jason Nguyen
Well, go ahead and say it out loud one more time. Uh huh.
Danielle Radford
Sloppy Tippy. Oh boy.
Becca Scott
See? And it wasn't.
Danielle Radford
Yeah, you're right. I didn't need to hear that.
Jason Nguyen
I tried.
Dan Casey
We're keeping it in.
Danielle Radford
I. Yeah, the. The scrying on Inzug didn't go there and I'm very. Yeah, that was never gonna.
Becca Scott
Tippy throat for Terror Squad coat.
Danielle Radford
We'll see if this stays in the hippie cut.
Dan Casey
Okay, well, we left things on definitely a really shocking note. We don't know what the future holds. There's limited time remaining for all of our heroes, our allies, our villains. It feels like everything is coming to a head, and I, for one, can't wait to see what happens on a brand new episode of Sagas of Sundry, Goblin Mode, which you can watch and listen to on Geek and Sundry and wherever fine podcasts are served, respectively. So thank you so much for tuning in and joining us. We hope you enjoyed this episode as much as we did performing it. And yeah, we hope to see you as the adventure continues in the next one. Summary of "Quests N’ Answers | Inside Sagas of Sundry: Goblin Mode Ep. 18"
Release Date: February 26, 2025
In Episode 18 of "Sagas of Sundry: Goblin Mode," hosted by Dan Casey, the cast delves deep into the latest developments of their ongoing campaign. Joined by Danielle Radford, Amy Vorpahl, Jason Nguyen, and special guest Becca Scott, the team explores pivotal moments, character evolutions, and intricate plot twists that have shaped their adventure so far.
The episode begins with Dan Casey setting the stage for an in-depth discussion, cautioning listeners about spoilers for those who haven't yet engaged with "Goblin Mode." The conversation quickly shifts to recent in-game events, particularly the temporary promotion of a character and the mysterious disappearance of the evil necromancer, Sundari.
Temporary Promotion and Sundari’s Disappearance
Danielle Radford expresses frustration over a character's temporary promotion, stating, "It's a temporary promotion. And when they find out that the Sundari is gone, I don't think that Ofred's gonna let me keep that" (01:34). This sets the tone for the ensuing chaos following Sundari's vanishing act.
Sundari’s Weakening and the Impact of Scrying
Amy Vorpahl highlights the consequences of Sundari’s weakening state: "She's too weak. The only reason she's got sustenance is because she's channeling all of these gems" (05:24). The team discusses the strategic use of the scrying ability, emphasizing its rarity and the tension it introduces: "It's a clutch move... It was so cool that you were able to just use it and use it in a really cool way" (03:33).
Becca Scott as Berygneus (B6)
Becca Scott provides a profound reflection on her character, Berygneus, exploring themes of family and identity. She states, "Family is made and certain things are earned... B6 is now family because that is earned" (09:39). This underscores the evolution of relationships within the game, highlighting the distinction between blood relations and bonds formed through shared experiences.
Amy Vorpahl’s Berygneus Ambition
Amy Vorpahl delves into Berygneus's ambitions, linking them to her dwarf heritage: "Berygneus is ambitious. It goes with the super type A, the organized and just the dwarf lifestyle" (13:31). This ambition drives her character’s actions and decisions, adding layers to her role within the narrative.
Artifact Significance and World-Building
The conversation touches on the introduction of new artifacts and their significance: "There is a sixth. That's why. And there actually are six artifacts, as it turns out, too" (03:24). This revelation adds depth to the game's lore, suggesting a more complex mythos underlying the current storyline.
Scrying as a Narrative Tool
Dan Casey muses on the use of powerful magical abilities: "I cannot not make use of these incredible abilities. I need to scry at least once" (04:21). The team discusses the balance between granting players potent tools and maintaining narrative tension, ensuring that such abilities have meaningful impacts on the story.
Danielle Radford on Planned Narratives:
"I've known about it for months, but it actually is, like, when you think about it, it's actually more weighty..." (02:21)
Becca Scott on Family and Loyalty:
"We are related by terror. And so Busy's affection for B6 is very much because of the things that they have in common as people." (09:07)
Amy Vorpahl on Berygneus’s Leadership:
"She has kind of been doing the job for a while. We look at it as, like, look, I know y'all are seeing it as though this is like, she had one moment, but she has been working at this for a really long time." (12:36)
Dan Casey on Narrative Progression:
"We left things on definitely a really shocking note. We don't know what the future holds." (16:25)
Episode 18 of "Quests N’ Answers" offers a comprehensive look into the intricate storytelling and character development that define "Sagas of Sundry: Goblin Mode." Through engaging discussions, the cast provides listeners with a deeper understanding of the game's mechanics, plot intricacies, and the personal growth of their characters. As the narrative reaches a critical juncture, the anticipation for future episodes heightens, promising more thrilling adventures in the multiverse of Exandria.
