All right, folks, we are in the end game. We are going to get into some major spoilers for Goblin Mode. This story, we don't want to ruin it for you. Okay, it's your last chance. Let's get into it. So did anything happen this episode? I didn't have a single thing. Yeah, definite filler episode for that.

There are so many. Especially with y'all leveling up to level four, where it's just like, oh, yeah. You actually do get pretty powerful. The new spells that you've gotten, those took me a little bit by surprise. Also, I will say I have laden you with magic items. You are belated with magic items. And some of them, I'm just like, oh, oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.

[Dan Casey]

Why did I give them oh, yeah?

[Amy Vorpahl]

The Whistle of the March was really clutch.

[Jason Nguyen]

I was waiting for that to come back.

[Danielle Radford]

That was when. So before we did this, normally I'd be like, oh, it'd be like a really fun thing to throw on. But then I was like, oh, if I do this, that also means I'm not the one who suddenly asked to do 10 pirate voices. So I was like, hey, Amy, I just wanna remind you, I do have the Whistle of the March, just so you know. Cause again, it's like, I don't know when it's gonna come up. But again, if I do decide that I wanna pull that trigger, I.e. 10 pirate polycule voices that you just now have to like. So I was like, obviously. And that's why I didn't want to. I took Amy aside because I was like, I know. It's fun to have the surprise of it. And I was like, well, I'm not gonna tell the dudes. And that way we can still get a genuine response. And then you wound up being like, oh, no, I know about whistles.

[Dan Casey]

I remembered that you got it. And I was like, well, this seems like the time. We gotta use it.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah, this is it. There's, like, two episodes left. Yeah, we gotta get that thing in play.

[Dan Casey]

Cause there's a strong chance we're to leave this plane of existence for the final episode. So I was just like, I don't think the airship can go to Unzuk's mansion.

[Danielle Radford]

They're probably not within 100 miles of the other plane. Yeah. So, yeah, we had that on deck. And I was like. So when you mentioned. I was like, okay, cool. Cause, like, this way.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Well, I think all of the magic items got used in this episode. We had. The chalice got used twice. Once for its original purpose and once for a magic key. And then your.

[Dan Casey]

I used the staff of Rollbear.

[Amy Vorpahl]

We got the tattoo.

I used the tattoo last time, though, to surprise.

The tattoo hasn't been used this episode, but, yeah, last episode. And then you have the tree. Have you used the luck stone yet?

I. No, I haven't had to because.

Yeah.

[Jason Nguyen]

Not just yet.

Yeah, not just yet. And then what else do we have? Oh, my scope. Oh, yeah, your scope.

We learned a very big thing, which is Unzu's real.

Yeah. We sniped his personal details.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

What are you talking about? I love that name. I love the name.

So lame. Cordaire Babelbrook.

[Danielle Radford]

No, I think it's, like a nice, gentle name. But it is definitely. Like, if you found out that the scourge and terror that you've always been scared of, his real name is, like, Bob, you might have a reaction to it.

[Jason Nguyen]

Yeah.

[Amy Vorpahl]

When you. Yeah, that's everything that, like, oh, here's a magic item. And here's a magic item. It's like, ha, ha, ha. That'll be fun. And then you just, like, in the most inopportune time, I think for me, you know, it's like you just heard Eunzu go, oh, yeah, names have power over people. Well, they kind of do. And you're like, interesting, interesting.

[Dan Casey]

So did guns.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yes.

[Jason Nguyen]

Okay.

[Amy Vorpahl]

That was really clutch. Big move there.

[Danielle Radford]

Which is great because, like, Tippi did make it. He was like, oh, I've been telling everyone my name, but you haven't. You've been giving out fake names the entire time.

[Dan Casey]

Yeah, that's true.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah. Yeah.

[Dan Casey]

Of all of us, you've given your actual name the least, I guess there is. I'm Rippy Gun Dippy.

[Jason Nguyen]

You're right. It all feels like it's the same Tippi.

[Dan Casey]

Speaking of Unzoog and Tippi, though, Tippi had some absolute bangers this episode. He was cooking in their conversation when he said, honestly, big loser activity, not getting into wizard college. I said, my favorite, though, is, you're not a God, you're a disappointment. That was just like cutting.

[Jason Nguyen]

I think it was really like talking from the heart for Tippi, which is just like, he really did look up to look up to this guy. If you really think about it, like, Tippi needs a father figure really in his life to set him on the right path. And I think Unzuk may have come the closest. Next to it would be like, Maxwell and then Unzuk. And so just to find all of these sort of like, people of power, parental figures in his life just really let him down. It's like he's gonna tell the truth finally and be like, you are a disappointment to me. But really so that it would buy him time. As this force prison started to dissipate.

[Amy Vorpahl]

I needed to gap it up. I love that you clocked. Like, stalling is gonna do you some favors. And then it did. I mean, it worked. It was disintegrating. And then Fibs had the final blow, which is. Yeah, I mean, it was just undeniable.

[Dan Casey]

Look, just the chance to use Unzoog's staff against him was just too satisfying to me to avoid.

[Amy Vorpahl]

And now this is the misty set, plus the staff.

[Jason Nguyen]

That is the most legendary move I've ever seen.

[Amy Vorpahl]

There's a version where you just turn into a tree and it's like, okay, I guess we get out of the way of the tree to have a 40 foot birch fall on top of you.

[Dan Casey]

Well, it was the single funniest thing I've read in a magic item description in a long time. Like, well, you can turn into a big snake, a little snake, the staff itself, or a forty foot tree. And I'm like, I need to turn into a tree.

[Amy Vorpahl]

I do.

[Jason Nguyen]

Yeah. What is with that?

[Amy Vorpahl]

This is why. This is why. Because some of my favorite magic items are feather tree, feather, anchor, and then feather the other one. There's just these feathers that are just like, here's a feather. It does something. And it can anchor a ship. Like, you just throw the feather and now the ship can't leave for 24 hours. And it's just like, well, that's that. But tree is like. And it's a druid staff. So Rolbear is of. I can't remember. Who is this Sadif?

[Dan Casey]

Yes, I believe Sadif.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Okay, so Rollbear is the champion of Sadiff and Sadif is the sovereign of nature. And I was like, well, one of the feather things could be a tree. And I was like, well, whatever. Also it is. The magic item is taken from her. Almost identical to the staff of the python where you can turn into a snake. A big old snake. And that's.

[Dan Casey]

Oh, I don't mind turning into a snake. It just.

[Amy Vorpahl]

I wanted to change it a little bit and I just. I'm such a fan. The feather magic item. So here we go.

[Dan Casey]

It just made me laugh that I'm like, well, I 100% need to find a satisfying way to turn into a tree.

[Jason Nguyen]

Yeah, it had to happen.

[Amy Vorpahl]

It did. It did happen.

[Dan Casey]

And as we know, this is something that happens with Theater of the Mind. You have one thing in your head. The DM has the actual thing in her head and written down. And I envisioned it. I did not quite understand it.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah.

[Jason Nguyen]

What was the plan? What was the original plan in your mind?

[Dan Casey]

I thought this was like maybe a like 30, 40 foot tall room. And I'm like, okay, I'm gonna like BAMF up to the ceiling like Nightcrawler from the X Men. And from there I'm going to, before I start falling, jam the staff into the ceiling to activate it because you have to slam it into the ground and say a command word. And I'm like, cool. I'm gonna shoot down from the ceiling and crush him as a tree erupts just with force. The fact that it was actually 100 foot tall. So I just teleport up and I'm like, uh, oh, I thought there was going to be a ceiling here and then, but that's great because then I'm a giant tree and I get to do all that fall damage as well. Yeah, look, he has some seasonal affective disorder because fall came for him, literally.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah. And I like.

[Jason Nguyen]

I mean, how much damage was that? That was like a regular.

[Dan Casey]

I did 57 points of damage, which half for him because he saved with his insane dex bonus. But 57 points of tree based damage is pretty tight.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Tree lock, tree luck, tree lock.

[Jason Nguyen]

You guys have had like that. Two of my favorite, I think, like Combat sort of combos ever. I think yours is now the Misty Steppin Tree. And yours is the bonkin bite where you dug. Yeah.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah.

[Jason Nguyen]

So I'm like, I gotta figure out a cool combo. I don't know what to do here.

[Amy Vorpahl]

I mean, you're doing some work with that gun for sure.

[Jason Nguyen]

Yeah.

[Dan Casey]

Rip gun Tippy. His eyes.

[Jason Nguyen]

Disappearing gun Tippy. He had to do it, though.

[Amy Vorpahl]

He did. And I love that he sacrificed himself. The Painite and the Unzuk Shield. Fighting back was something that I was like, yeah. I mean, I want you to be able to do this. There just has to be a penalty.

[Dan Casey]

No, it makes sense.

[Amy Vorpahl]

While they're also. Everyone's in a trance, I guess you're fighting the flesh things again. Like, who's actually doing anything to you?

[Dan Casey]

When I cast shatter, it made sense that I was like, oh, yeah. I guess there would be some residual. Like, it's fighting back.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah, yeah. Like, these crystals are. I mean, magic is being all magic, and it does matter who controls it. And so that the fact. I also knew that, like, the force thing would wear off. And I think that that's great that, like, magic can't pass in or out. But the fact that he will do. He would shackle you as well and just do, like, a mechanical thing. Like, I just need you on this. I just need you on this slab. And that's the math I'm doing is, like, I need y'all on this slab to get the throat bone and top of the.

[Jason Nguyen]

To get the throat bone.

[Dan Casey]

The God bone.

[Amy Vorpahl]

The God bone. Top of the fifth round would have been interesting.

[Jason Nguyen]

Would have been bad news.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah. But we got. You know, we got the. It's really weird because I'm fighting. I'm using these stat blocks that are high crs. Like, you should not be fighting them like this is again. But they do have awesome powers. And I thought, well, if Unzuk is gonna be mega awesome and we have a deity, she should. Once she gets healed up on something, she should be more powerful, actually.

[Jason Nguyen]

Yeah.

[Amy Vorpahl]

And so anyway, if she hadn't gotten healed up and Eunzook's just out there doing legendary actions, which that's tough at a level four to be fighting. Yeah.

[Dan Casey]

Yeah. I mean, thank God you rolled a one in.

[Amy Vorpahl]

That was a one I rolled. Yeah, I did.

[Dan Casey]

With this plus 12 modifier.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yes.

[Dan Casey]

Still just made.

[Amy Vorpahl]

And I normally, like, I will fudge rolls for the story. Like, I'm one of those Dungeon Masters. But on this battle, I have not fudged a roll. I believe it I've been calling my numbers every single time.

[Dan Casey]

I know you weren't pulling punches with my boy EU4, who unfortunately lost us.

[Jason Nguyen]

Yeah.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah.

[Jason Nguyen]

The longest death I've ever seen.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yes. Actually.

[Jason Nguyen]

He's agonizing.

[Amy Vorpahl]

I kind of miss Euphor. I feel like I really got to know him in those 10 minutes he was dying.

[Dan Casey]

He's an NPC, which means now perishing character, which means you need to understand exactly what he's going through as life seeps out from his eyes and onto the floor. Just devoured by flesh monsters.

[Amy Vorpahl]

And I did not think Crandall, in all sense of the world, didn't think.

[Dan Casey]

He was gonna be alive this long.

[Amy Vorpahl]

I didn't think, well alive or doing literally anything good. Like, literally. I mean, I've talked with the story producer, writer, Rin, and I'm like, he's not good at anything. We can't have him. He's a non combatant. There's nothing good. Maybe he has some hit points if he gets into battle, but it's like 10. There's nothing good about him. But we decided like, what he is good and what he is to know things and that's it. He may as well be a magic item. Other than that, he's kind of just this dumb thing that follows him around.

[Dan Casey]

He just represents institutional knowledge.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah.

[Danielle Radford]

I literally was. My whole point of having him.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah.

[Danielle Radford]

Was just to literally find a way to. A, he can take damage. Cause I'm squishy.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Hit points.

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah.

[Dan Casey]

Operation Human Shield.

[Jason Nguyen]

Operation Human Shield, which he was amazing at.

[Danielle Radford]

And B, I can use him for an extra turn if we so need. He can't do anything. I can do things through him.

[Dan Casey]

I just loved that we got to say goodbye to these delightful dwarves. My poor boy, U5 or U4, who was done so dirty but got a nice brief death speech to really just express some sense.

[Jason Nguyen]

Yeah. That's a crazy word to say.

[Dan Casey]

A now perishing character and people need to understand what he's going through.

[Amy Vorpahl]

I'm just really happy that you found a use for Crandall. Yeah.

[Danielle Radford]

The whole point of me bringing Crandall along was literally either to absorb him for anybody in the party or to be able to use as like an extra turn for something because I wasn't sure if I was gonna need to be up top. And then I was gonna have to charm or do something to get the skeletons to remember who they were and send them down there to the control.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Room and have them do things.

[Danielle Radford]

So I wasn't sure if it was gonna Be me or Crandall or anyone else. But I knew that it was gonna be important for someone to be down there. So that was also, like, one of the things.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Well, that was clutch, too, because I didn't have, like, a mechanic for that. But the fact that you were like the chalice. I mean, the chalice just had healing, and I was like, gosh, that should matter. You know, Like, Orademph is the sovereign of healing, and you have his champion. You are the champion of Sorry.

[Dan Casey]

Out of juice.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah, yeah. No more empty. Empty drip drop. But it was just so cool that. Yeah, you have this guy who can, you know, do the math on what magic batteries look like. And you rolled. I was like, well, I don't know. This is wild. But I like those luck rolls where it's like 11 or higher. This can make sense. We're in a fantasy world. Like, who's to say? And you did. And that's just, like, amazing. But, yeah, without Crandall, without your magic item, without that roll, who knows?

[Danielle Radford]

Yeah. And with me, with my very sad at this point, six hit points.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Oh, that was six damage. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like, full and youthis is full. And then anything left for.

[Dan Casey]

Don't worry. Don't worry. Fibs is at 4.

[Jason Nguyen]

4, and you're a tree. And then we just left off with some other bosses coming in here.

[Amy Vorpahl]

I'm going to forget that.

Oh, yeah, no, we won't worry. It'll be fine. Don't worry about it. I'm not worried about it.

I'm not extremely worried about it. These trees are extra flammable with magma, too.

It's a magic tree. It's a magic tree.

It's a snake tree. Snake tree is made of snakes.

I think it becomes a chimney as fibs burns as a tree all the way over.

Well, I also like that we learned a little. A little bit more about who Unzoog was and how he became a dark lord.

Amy, I have to ask, were you at all inspired by any historical figures of someone who wasn't able to get into the art school they maybe had in mind and instead became just perhaps one of the most evil figures in history and just really capitalizing on a world that had been desolated and was recovering from this major event and really gathering forces.

[Amy Vorpahl]

So, yeah, yeah, I see where you're going with this. No.

[Jason Nguyen]

Okay.

[Amy Vorpahl]

No further questions at all. But I see the lines that you're drawing, and it is not a good look on Unzuk.

[Dan Casey]

I'm starting to think this Unzuk might be a bad guy.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Bad guy? Yeah. He lied just to your faces and has a feet thing where you just can't tell what a lie is even if you rolled really high. He just. Just couldn't tell if he was lying or not ever. Which I don't think you even insighted. You just were like, it's Daddy Unzig. We like this guy.

[Dan Casey]

You did make an. You made an unsight check at one point to see if he actually meant that he believed in you.

[Jason Nguyen]

Yeah. Yeah.

[Danielle Radford]

Oh, Tippy.

[Jason Nguyen]

I guess he did believe in me for my throat bone. He believed in my throat bone.

[Amy Vorpahl]

He did believe in your throat bone. He really wanted that. That would have been. That would have been really gruesome.

Yeah. I was getting worried when you were like, oh, and then you're gonna take damage every turn from this, like, ritual.

[Amy Vorpahl]

Yeah. And my version of that is, like, the hyoid bone is, like, pulling away.

[Dan Casey]

Which is very shocking to me, and I have the luck stone, but I'm really worried about my friend. Psychara's on the edge of.

Oh, yeah. She got one hit point left.

She's not doing great. All of my friends are not doing great. And so it's a big concern, and I'm a little worried going into the finale. What's gonna happen?

[Danielle Radford]

Look, I'm going to find a way to get my hit points back. I'm going to beat the crap out of some yester dusters. That is 100% gonna happen. That's my, like, busy doesn't know that they're here. Yet. Oh, and we should probably also continue evacuating since we brought nothing but chaos and harm to the dwarves.

Cause we ruined their home and act if we pressed the volcano lever.

And Dan as a tree, how do you feel about going into the finale?

[Dan Casey]

I feel like I should make like a tree and leaf because we're in imminent danger. We could go from my fall from grace into the winter of my discontent very quickly.
