Hello and welcome back to Sagas of Sundry Question Answers. I'm Dan Casey and we're here to talk about the latest episode of Goblin Mode. Folks, it was a doozy. I know I say that like every episode, but this episode was legally a doozy. You find any tort lawyer, whatever that means in the country, they will say this is a doozy and they will back me up. But it's not just me. I'm joined once again by my amazing cast, Danielle Radford.
Danielle Radford
That wouldn't be tw. Sorry, I shouldn't know that.
Amy Porpoise
I'm Amy Porpoise.
Jason Nguyen
Hi, I'm Jason Nguyen and our special guest.
Ify Wadi Way
Hello, I'm Ify Wadi Way.
Dan Casey
I am so stoked to talk about this episode, but as always, folks, there are spoilers here, there be spoilers, so watch out. If you haven't seen the latest episode of Goblin Mode, tread carefully because otherwise, no blame yourself. These are your choices and they led you right here. But for everyone else who's sticking around, let's talk about this episode. First and foremost, we get to welcome the amazing captain to our Mitts Yippy. We're so stoked to have you here. Tell us about your character and the creation process working with Amy to have him join us this episode.
Ify Wadi Way
Yeah, no, it was real great. I mean, Amy made it so easy for me. I have all these notes because just had a breakdown of the world and basically where like Raytel comes in play and you know, super easy because you made it just the stat block. So really all that stuff's just squared away. So really is just kind of fleshing out where Raytel stands. And you know, I imagine, you know, we'll find this out more and more as we go along that he's a kind of aloof person, but he's very. He cares more so about the well being of the crew and make sure everyone is their truest selves. Cause I just imagine that since he's, you know, the captain of this crew that has nowhere else to go, he wants people to just kind of live in their truth. Which is why I feel like he really kind of like needled in on Tippy and was like, no, you're gonna say how you feel. We're not gonna let it be hidden and be scared of who we really are.
Jason Nguyen
I love that. In your character creation process, what point were you like, I'm gon this character. The hottest character so far to come along. What's the deal? Nine feet tall, full of chest hair, stacked. You know what I mean?
Ify Wadi Way
That's just how onis look.
Danielle Radford
You know, I really just big, blue, buff and horny.
Jason Nguyen
Let's go.
Ify Wadi Way
They're just like super giant nine feet tall, you know, horned guys that are muscular. So I was like, yeah. I think the only change I really made was make them have, you know, locks instead of, you know, you know, pre made.
Amy Porpoise
No, I would say oni's are not customarily hot. I think it's like when you mix iffy with any monster, you're gonna get some sort of daddy vibe.
Dan Casey
When you multi class into becomes canonically high. Makes sense to me.
Jason Nguyen
When I mix in, I get a sweaty goblin.
Ify Wadi Way
You know what I mean?
Amy Porpoise
Jason, guaranteed, I will say like what you said. Danielle as busy when you were like, well, one of them's free, which was smelly and one of them smiling. And that is Captain Ray Tug. I was like, that was me when you said that. I was doing the math. I was like, oh, good. They understand the dynamic of who actually Captain Ray Tug is. Who is this beloved character who you can tell may or may not deserve by the smarts the captainship. But as far as the mascot version and the leadership. Yeah, for sure.
Ify Wadi Way
Yeah. When you were talking to me about the smelly dynamic, I really in my head was like, okay, he's like Duke Senior for all Mario Shakespeare heads out there where you know, he's leading off of charisma. Like people like him cause they wanna follow him. Not necessarily because he has the best plans, but he is smart enough to surround himself with people who can get things Done.
Amy Porpoise
And the wielding of the Glaive, too. He's got glaive conflict.
Jason Nguyen
It's a step above gun confidence.
Dan Casey
And when charisma fails, there's a glaive. But no, he's clearly got that emotional intellig as well, which is important to keep a crew aloft. I also loved the whole kind of Corsair vibe that we got from this airship because to me, it felt very different in flavor than the rest of the Marked in a very cool way. Because, of course, the people piloting their airship would be just this badass group of sky pirates. So I dug that in particular, yeah.
Amy Porpoise
I will say when. When I learned about Sundaros, which was very little, just presented to me and what the theme of this show would be. It was. I made it my own pretty fast. But there was the Marked as part of the faction that I was like, ooh, there's something here that I want to tap into. And making them all lycanthropes, or the theme of monster and human or both or neither was something I really thought, oh, that'll be what the mark is. And so, yeah, ify was gonna be this oni who could shape shift just backwards kind of.
Dan Casey
I lost my mind. When you turned into a baby, I'm like, did they pre plan this?
Amy Porpoise
Yeah.
Jason Nguyen
I was like, how is this possible?
Amy Porpoise
Yeah, no oni by nature. I mean, it's one of those just kind of monsters that just goes back and forth. And I don't know. There's lots of shape shifting monsters in D and D. But I thought, yeah, like, yeah, onis are specifically on theme, but you know, the photo negative version of Lycanthropes in the Marked.
Danielle Radford
Yeah, that was great. And I loved all the stuff with Smelly. I think for Busy in particular, like, Smelly is like just the pirate version of Busy.
Amy Porpoise
Just like, I did not know that was going to happen. When you started bonding with her, I was like, oh, yeah, yeah.
Danielle Radford
Like, it's the same. Cause at first, it's that thing of, like, when you see yourself and Bizzy's like, oh, I hate her. And then it's like, Busy's like, oh, like, we're the same. Like, the way that she. Like the deference she treats her captain, the way that she wants to be taken seriously. Like, the way that she needs validation. And so Bizzy was immediately like just two middle managers just, like, coming together to, like, do middle management.
Amy Porpoise
The goal was Smelly was just because I knew I was packing a lot of lore onto iffy Just coming in for a guest spot. And I thought, well, what's a character that could support him? And also really like, to me, someone who's overemphasizing what the stakes are all the time does have, like, have a stick up her ass. So that was just. The onus of the character was just going like, oh, I need to support Iffy and go like, this is important kind of for everything.
Dan Casey
And it's a good thing we had a character like Smelly, because we did learn some pretty campaign shaking lore this episode.
Ify Wadi Way
Oh, yeah.
Dan Casey
You know, the death cult, the Scythe of Aurelios who resurrected the demon king Firaxis, and one of the most significant events of the entire campaign, the Searing. So, you know, just some minor things for us to maybe follow up on in context.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah, I mean, look, it's very like the Fiends United is connected. Highly connected in a way that you're just now learning. It is very important in a very important way.
Jason Nguyen
Well, we got confirmation that they hired the Gatlings and, like, it's official that they're. Yeah, we hate them.
Danielle Radford
And they're an umbrella. They're part of an umbrella corporation, which to me screams that they're not really a union. And this is astroturfing. That's what that says. To me.
Dan Casey
It is 1,000%. I mean, look, even their leader is lying about who she is. Kaya.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah.
Danielle Radford
Now I feel extra. Not bad about really, really bad about.
Dan Casey
Blowing up their mansion.
Ify Wadi Way
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Danielle Radford
It had to go. It looked really cool. We have our priorities, and our priorities are what goes boom.
Amy Porpoise
Well, and also, it's like you. This information may or may not matter to the mark. You have no idea. But as far as your characters, it's like there's a lot there, especially with your loyalties to Eunzoo. Still.
Dan Casey
Yeah, I mean, definitely. Still feeling a deep sense of loyalty to Eunzoog, but kind of questioning things as well because we don't know. It seems like everyone knows Eunzoo in a way that we don't because we're so far down the ladder.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah, they've seen him at the grocery store.
Dan Casey
Yeah. They know him casually outside of work. And we're just like, that is our God King. And everything he does is amazing.
Amy Porpoise
I want to say that I was prepared to offer some of this information to you. I was not prepared to offer as much as I did if you couldn't.
Dan Casey
Tell if you hadn't rolled a nat20 on investigation.
Ify Wadi Way
Oh, no, no, no, no.
Amy Porpoise
And then I kind of. God, I think I'M correct that none of y'all have abyssal. And in my head I was like, I mean, like, this is one of those magical dungeon master moments where you're like, okay, I just have to make a call. It's an abyssal. And then Danielle the bard, it just comes all the way in with comprehend languages, which means I had decisions to make. I mean, on a natural 20, you want to reward that. Right? And so there is very much lore that you found out that I was really, really not prepared to have you find out.
Danielle Radford
Yeah, because my brain is tickling with all of this new. The information about being unskeletoned. I'm sure there's a better word for that.
Dan Casey
Deboned.
Danielle Radford
Deboned.
Ify Wadi Way
Deboned.
Danielle Radford
But, you know, there's all information about that and Kya. And then just. I'm putting things together because going back a couple of episodes when Busy had her pre death flashback and what kind of that could mean about what that could mean about her death. We do know that she was involved with a cult of some kind. So is this the only cult? Are there other evil cults? Is this involved? And that was kind of for Busy. That was the first thing she thought was like, well, I was like, probably part of an evil cult when I was like, living. So, like, is this my cult? Excuse me, sir, Are you my cult?
Dan Casey
Like, well, that one was an eye on fire with a halo.
Danielle Radford
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But that's why I was like, can I look at the logo?
Dan Casey
And I like, no, different cult, different cult.
Danielle Radford
Not my cult.
Amy Porpoise
Sorry, guys, I'm having a lot of fun because I know this is theater of the mind with sigil descriptions for different factions and what they mean, but also for the Sundari. And the fact that y'all are picking that up is really special.
Ify Wadi Way
That's.
Dan Casey
That's. That's also why I just want to ask a bunch of clarifying questions just for my own edification. So I'm like, wait, how high up are we? So I don't. I'm like, I jump off the side.
Amy Porpoise
Oh my gosh. Seriously. Oh, my gosh. I can't imagine be funny though.
Dan Casey
I'm just curious who survived that explosion at the beginning of the episode?
Jason Nguyen
I think Tippy is very curious about that.
Danielle Radford
If they know it's us and how mad they're gonna be.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah, that's a big. I mean, let's talk about that. Because that berg did this, that big escape was just a middle ground of morality, actually.
Jason Nguyen
Yeah, I think it was definitely like a crossroads For Tippy to sort of decide what kind of goblin he is. And I think for any sort of, you know, like, he's never seen the world, much less blew it up with a bunch of explosives. So I think it would have hit differently if he hadn't seen a kobold, like, right in front of the explosion as it happened. And I think that's sticking with him a little bit.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah. The eye contact.
Jason Nguyen
Yeah, a little bit. A little bit.
Ify Wadi Way
So I guess my question for you as the DM is at what point did you realize you were going to have Pekara get captured?
Amy Porpoise
Yeah, look, that's a tricky one. I don't want to answer that question. That is something. I mean, there's lots of math that you're doing. You try to prepare for as many hypotheticals as possible in between the episodes, and that's all I'll say about that. But I do know, I will say the one thing that I will say is that I had no idea that there would be such an emotional attachment to Pekara. Pekora. Come on. My accent makes it pakora. So there's a lot that's driven mostly by what the players do and who they're attached to. So this Picara attachment is definitely turning into something.
Jason Nguyen
Well, if you're gonna put another goblin tinker out there that's like, you know, the only goblin of the opposite sex that Tippy's ever seen, then he's gonna fall in love.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah. I mean, we know this about Tippi.
Jason Nguyen
That's all it takes when he made.
Amy Porpoise
Out with a statue, if you will. Yeah.
Dan Casey
As a new baby out in the world for the first time.
Jason Nguyen
Not a baby.
Amy Porpoise
Sure.
Danielle Radford
You are baby, though.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah.
Danielle Radford
Also, can we just get. For your lower thirds now from Ron, from Fibs. Can we just put. Not a totally dumb skeleton.
Amy Porpoise
Oh, no.
Jason Nguyen
I loved your, like, weird, like, deduction, Ace Attorney like, moment that you had. That was incredible, actually.
Dan Casey
Oh, no, I got it.
Amy Porpoise
I didn't see that at all. Sometimes you're just talking and you just talk and talk and say things, and it affects people. But one thing that happened with Iffy, that was just this magical moment of just improv was when it was an inside joke. Right. Dungeon Dollars, just an inside joke. But you offer it to Captain Rittalg, and the look on your face when they say dungeon Dollars is like, what are you talking about? Which is perfect, because.
Johnny Chiadini
Yeah.
Amy Porpoise
In the world, that's nothing.
Ify Wadi Way
Yeah. You're like, huh?
Dan Casey
I also loved that they had their own version of sidebar, which is Corner Conversation.
Ify Wadi Way
Oh, My God.
Dan Casey
Yeah. Incredible power move.
Jason Nguyen
What is that like, as a player? Cause I know you've done so much tabletop before. Like, what was it like coming into a group that had so many hijinks and inside jokes and, like, was it easy to pick up on, or did you feel like you were trying to, like, catch up? All done.
Ify Wadi Way
Well, I mean, like, you know, I think it's not lost on the Internet that we're all friends. So, one, that makes it very easy. But two, you know, kind of, like watching before I even hopped in and seeing the way that y'all were kind of, like, playing and the jokes that you had, I was like, okay, cool. I kind of know where I'm going to stand in all this. And then, really, it was like, once I got in the seat and waited to see how y'all reacted to me, and then what I was going to give back. So I think, you know, kind of seeing that when y'all were like, he's so cool, I was like, well, then I can't do the same thing as y'all. I have to come up with this cool, different version. We don't sidebar up here. We have queens.
Danielle Radford
God, he's so cool.
Amy Porpoise
Immediately cool. Captain.
Dan Casey
Well, it's also. It makes sense as well, because we clearly respect people in positions of authority based on our coming from an overlord structure. Like, Lee's the captain. So we gotta pay homage.
Ify Wadi Way
Yes.
Amy Porpoise
What was it like to have. I mean, it's such a small moment, but you made a meal of it a bit. Is to have the.
Jason Nguyen
That's the campaign in a nutshell.
Dan Casey
Like, hey, right behind this door, there's, like, 30,000 gold. We're like, yeah, but what if we stayed on some bull for 15 minutes?
Amy Porpoise
I had three moments planned, and we have 20 episodes. It was when you got the go ahead to be the one revealing the loot.
Dan Casey
Oh, that was. Yeah, it was unexpected. Cause we were all sort of, like, talking about it. But then we kept talking up to the point of showing the loot and getting distracted, which is very us.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah.
Dan Casey
I don't know. I like that we were able to do it as a team. It felt fitting. Also getting to touch Eun Zook's ceremonial sheet.
Amy Porpoise
That's right.
Danielle Radford
He slept on that.
Dan Casey
Yeah, he did. And he'll sleep on it again. Cause he's still out there somewhere.
Danielle Radford
Can't believe he Daddy's coming back. Daddy's coming back for us.
Dan Casey
Can't believe he didn't pack his sheets in his own bag that he packed that's right. Deeply disillusioning moment.
Amy Porpoise
Well, I mean, if he did, then people would know what he's up to.
Danielle Radford
I don't want to take a sheet.
Dan Casey
I'm very excited to learn more about some of these items like you, especially hearing their full names mentioned, like the Chalice of Kirkhan, the Staff of Robert, the documents. The documents Readme. PDF. I'm very excited.
Amy Porpoise
I want to know ify I want to hear a little bit more about Yalls back and forth, you and Tippi, with the romance and the wingman and also suggesting that, oh, there's getting to the heart of it with the suggesting there's another man at play.
Jason Nguyen
Oh, yeah. That was great.
Ify Wadi Way
Yeah, I just. Because I feel like in that moment, you know, Ray Telg is. Knows what's going on. Like, he's onto you, and he's almost kind of trying to get it out of you instead of just taking you at your word. Because, like I said, you know, he's the captain of this group of people that he wants to finally be able to live openly and truthfully. So, like, any version of, like, hiding your true self or intentions, he's gonna attack immediately. And, you know, there's gonna be, like, bigger reason and things at plays that I will spring on to Amy in the moments of future episodes as to why Ray Tailg has this philosophy, but that's for other episodes.
Jason Nguyen
I love it.
Amy Porpoise
I love it. Oh, no.
Jason Nguyen
I feel like Tippi.
Amy Porpoise
That sounds like a threat.
Jason Nguyen
I feel like Tippi needs somebody like Ray Tug because, you know, because we share a bond that's so, like, quick that it's like, if Tippi's like, I'm fine. They're like, okay, you know what I mean?
Ify Wadi Way
You know? Cause to get, like, super. And this is probably just gonna fl. The more I think about being Ray Tell, the more I think about his philosophy and where they stand within this world. He's probably looking at y'all as, you know, these former servants of a big boss. And he's like, no, you don't need to be under somebody. You don't need to be an arm of the man. Y'all need to be out being your own person, running Yalls own dungeons. And I think that's kind of what he sees in everyone as he learns more and more about you.
Amy Porpoise
That's awesome. I mean, that just goes. I gave you a list of lute that the Marked does just have on hand. And for you to make that decision that, oh, they could take the chalice with them. That did Surprise me. That was one of those, like, okay, okay. That's why Smellie herself was like, really? We're gonna do this? But the way you explained it, I mean, makes perfect sense. It is dangerous to keep it up here. They might deserve it. They could use it. And it does seem to be a big player in the grander scheme of things, too.
Ify Wadi Way
Yeah. Cause I feel like the way he looks at it is with everything that was revealed in that great Nat20 role, there's an element where it's like, oh, he just found out that he has something that can bring, you know, more issues than need be. And I feel like his utmost, you know, ideas. Protecting, like, everyone in the Mark, everyone at the Wretched Cove. He wants to make sure. So having this item that he knows that essentially this death cult is actively searching for, it's only a matter of time before they figure out that they have it. And then he has to defend himself against them or give it to these adventurers. Where in my headcanon, in stories like this, the NPCs or guest players are aware of adventurers and how they are just bouncing around the world. So he's like, I'm gonna just give this to y'all. And if need be, you know, the way that the Marked are spread out, he'll be able to have tabs on, like, where y'all are traveling and going. And, like, if. If y'all ended up dying, then that's when he makes sure that someone goes and scoops it if y'all succeed. You know, it's like, to me, like, once you said, like, oh, the Mark is spread all around, I was like, oh, then this is a very connected person who doesn't feel the need to have to micromanage every piece of, like, the chessboard that he's actively working on.
Jason Nguyen
See, that's so smart. That's why you're the captain.
Dan Casey
Yeah.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah, it's so smart. That is not how Smelly would run things.
Dan Casey
And also to me, when you mentioned, like, and we'll give you membership in the Marked, I'm like, that is also, like, calculated to be like, okay, well, you're gonna be part of our group. We're gonna leverage that loyalty because clearly, these are people who are loyal to their previous master. If they're formally inducted, they'll presumably be loyal to us. They won't explode our mansion.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah, yeah, that's true. And this isn't the first faction you've come across either. I think you've come across at least someone pretend or a Woman who was avaunted, wanted. That's right. You ran across the Fiends United. Of course. Yeah. There have been some other factions, too, that you at least heard of. And so you don't.
Dan Casey
Yeah, there's a lot you don't know about Auctioneers Anonymous.
Amy Porpoise
Auctioneers Anonymous. Yeah, auctioneers who used to be actors or improv everywhere.
Jason Nguyen
Improv.
Amy Porpoise
Exactly. And you got your big explosion. Yay. That busy was wanting.
Dan Casey
And a thrilling opening where you almost fell to your untimely undeath.
Amy Porpoise
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That was a look. That was a call in the moment where I was like, well, actually, no, we should have a role for this.
Dan Casey
I thought feather fall was the right move. It totally was.
Amy Porpoise
It was absolutely the right move. It just made me laugh so hard that you wouldn't, like, reach out to hold Eight strength.
Danielle Radford
Just, like, imagine like, how.
Dan Casey
Swollen osteoporosis.
Amy Porpoise
He hit my feathers.
Danielle Radford
There's no cartilage.
Dan Casey
Deep calcium deficiency.
Amy Porpoise
That's right.
Dan Casey
A strong. If I stand by the engine, my bones would fly off.
Amy Porpoise
Yes, yes, Ivy, I do have one other question. So you are the captain of the marked Rhetelges. And so you've also seen that these three, a skeleton and a goblin, are showing up in the ship. Like, just in maybe just a sentence in Ray Tag's word. Like, what's your reaction, I guess, to seeing your lycanthropes partnering up with two skeletons and a goblin coming from the Fiends United, where skeletons and goblins are usually part of that faction.
Ify Wadi Way
I feel like this should be fun.
Dan Casey
Yeah, I feel like he wouldn't be phased. He's like, okay, well, if you're, like, rude or a problem, you're going over the side.
Ify Wadi Way
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Danielle Radford
He's still nine foot tall of oni.
Dan Casey
Like, it's still, like, walk the skyhouse.
Jason Nguyen
Has the captain ever seen a skeleton doing a Basic Instinct?
Ify Wadi Way
Sharon Stone.
Danielle Radford
Well, she had the chair.
Amy Porpoise
She had the chair in front of her. That's right.
Danielle Radford
It's more cool than sleazy. Like, more like Dangerous Minds.
Dan Casey
Right?
Jason Nguyen
Okay.
Danielle Radford
All right, we have a problem here then. Although now that that's on the table, I am going to Sharon Stone someone. There's gotta be an interrogation. There's nothing to see. It's all hip bone connected to the leg bone. Yeah, I guess.
Dan Casey
Silent image. Magical tinkering.
Amy Porpoise
Oh, my God.
Dan Casey
All right, well, folks, on that note, I am very excited to see what the future holds. Very excited to see where the captain takes us. And also. Oh, wait, we should talk about where we left things before we end this episode. One man's trash is another man's terror.
Jason Nguyen
Is this what we're gonna find out next time?
Amy Porpoise
Yeah, pretty much. Pretty much. You know that the Yesterdays awoke something in the evil junkyard, and you're about to find out just exactly what they awoke.
Dan Casey
All right, well, we'll have to rescue Tippi's girlfriend's twin sister from sand. Very important. And yeah, I'm very excited to see where our adventure takes us next. Into the sky, maybe down on the ground below sea level, who knows? The world is our oyster and we intend to eat it, provided they stop poisoning people in the Los Angeles area, which is. If you eat seafood in la, you can't get oysters. They're bad for you. Right now. As of the time this was filmed, we can cut that out. Thank you so much for tuning in. I can't wait for you to find out what's going to happen next. And you can find out for yourself on a brand new episode of Sagas of Sundry Goblin Mode on Geek and Sundry and wherever fine podcasters serve. We'll see you next time. Bye bye bye.
