Historic Central Grade School Opens Its Doors Before Major Renovation Project• TCAPS invited community members, alumni, and families to tour Central Grade School before construction begins on a major renovation project. • Central Grade is the oldest neighborhood school in the district, with roots dating back to 1874. The current building was constructed in 1935 after the original school was lost to fire. • Renovation plans focus on modernizing the building while preserving key historic features, including Lars Auditorium, historic tile work, and the building’s exterior character. • The project will bring the building up to modern accessibility and safety standards while restoring some original features, including relocating the library back to its historic first-floor location. • School leaders say the goal is to honor generations of Traverse City families while preparing the building for future students. https://upnorthlive.com/news/local/central-grade-school-invites-community-to-tour-historic-building-before-renovations-beginWeather:TodaySunny, with a high near 80.
