these are the daily tech headlines for Thursday, May 28, 2026. I'm Sarah Lane ahead of WWDC starting June 8. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has shared mockups suggesting Siri will launch from the dynamic island with a new liquid glass look instead of taking over the screen. Siri is also said to be more deeply integrated in the camera app, replacing the separate visual intelligence interface and adding Apple Intelligence powered image editing features like expanding photos or adjusting them with natural language commands. Apple is also reportedly working on a more conversational Siri with chat history and plans to let users build shortcuts. Meta launched paid subscriptions globally for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, charging between 2.99and 3.99per month for extra features like profile customization for premium reactions and audience insights. Also beginning tests of a more expensive Meta One plan for creators businesses and Meta AI users. The AI tiers are 799 and 1999 per month, with more computing power and expanded image and video generation. Creator and business plans running up to 49.99 per month include verification, analytics, search boosts and traffic tools. The European Commission fined Temu 200 million euros under the Digital Services act, saying that shoppers in Europe face a high risk of encountering illegal products on the platform. Regulators say Temu's 2024 risk assessment understated the problem and led to weak enforcement measures. The company called the penalty disproportionate and says it now has better compliance systems. TEMU has until August to present a plan to address illegal listings or risk further penalties. OURA unveiled the Oura Ring 5, a slimmer and lighter version starting at $399 and shipping at June 4, with upgraded sensors, improved battery life of up to nine days and a new portable charging case. Aura is also expanding into AI powered health tools with a new advisor Assistant, monitoring features like blood pressure and nighttime breathing alerts, lab uploads and GLP1 medication tracking and tighter privacy controls. Federal prosecutors say Google security engineer Michelle Spanolo made more than $1 million on polymarket by using internal Google search trend data before it became public. He allegedly used confidential company information to place winning bets, including correctly predicting that singer David would become Google's most searched person of 2025, then hid the proceeds through an account called Alpha Raccoon. Spanuolo was arrested in New York on fraud and money laundering charges, released on a 2.25 million dollar bond, and Google says it has placed him on leave. WIX is cutting about 20% of its workforce. In a post on X, CEO Avishai Abrahami said AI is fundamentally changing how companies are built and operated, pushing wix to streamline management and move faster with fewer leadership layers. He also pointed to the strengthening Israeli Shekel against the US dollar as creating long term financial pressure on the company's operations. Valve has raised prices for its Steam Deck OLED models, blaming higher memory and storage costs tied to ongoing component shortages. The 512 gigabyte version jumped from $549 to $789. The 1 TB model rose to 949. Valve says the hardware itself has not changed. The AI related demand for memory is showing up all over the place, with companies like Raspberry PI and Microsoft also increasing hardware prices. Remember Last fm, the music website that tracked what you listened to across platforms, apps and streaming services? Well, it's going independent again after splitting from paramount Skydance. Nearly 20 years after its acquisition by CBS, the company says nothing changes for users right now. Accounts, Scrabbles, privacy settings, pro subscriptions and billing info all stay intact and the current team remains in place. And finally today, Dell has a new five year, $9.7 billion US Department of Defense contract to provide Microsoft software and cloud services across the military intelligence community and Coast Guard. Pentagon officials say that Dell won through a standard procurement process and that consolidating licensing under one agreement should save around 422 million per year.
