The updated feature available for watches sold after January 17, 2024, will now process data the iPhone and display it in the health app. This change requires WatchOS 7.1.11 and iOS 7.1.18 and is a response to an ongoing patent dispute with Masimo, which led to the December 2023 import ban. In other Apple news, the company's future device plans have been revealed through code snippets indicating significant upgrades across its product line. The next gen Vision Pro headset is slated to receive an M5 chip, while a new iPad mini could feature the A19 Pro processor similar to the upcomin iPhone 17 Pro. The next Apple TV is expected to swap its A15 Bionic chip for the A17 Pro, and an updated HomePod mini might utilize the same system and package architecture as the Watch Series 9 and 10, a platform potentially also used for the Watch Series 11. Moscow has been accused by WhatsApp of attempting to block millions of Russians from secure communication after restricting calls on the messaging app as Russia continues to promote domestic social media platforms and seek increased control over its Internet. On Wednesday, Russia confirmed that it had begun restricting some calls on WhatsApp and Telegram, citing the foreign owned platform's failure to share information with law enforcement regarding fraud and terrorism cases. Airbnb's new Reserve Now, Pay later feature in the US Allows users to book properties without immediate payment, simplifying cancellations. For listings with flexible or moderate policies, users must pay the full amount before the free cancellation period ends. This builds on previous payment options like Pay Part now, part later and a partnership with Klarna. A survey showed that a majority of respondents favored flexible payment options and many missed out on properties due to payment issues. In the first half of 2025, China's electric vehicle industry significantly increased its exports of plug in hybrid electric vehicles, with more than a threefold rise compared to a 40% increase in battery electric vehicle exports. This shift, particularly evident in Europe, addresses challenges like EV infrastructure and consumer range anxiety, allowing Chinese automakers to stay competitive by offer a balanced solution in terms of cost, range and performance despite potentially slowing the global move to zero emissions due to a continued fossil fuel use. The US Navy and Air Force are reportedly canceling two nearly complete multi million dollar software projects designed to overhaul human resource systems, potentially leading to costly do overs by new firms. This decision, influenced by the White House's focus on efficiency, raises concerns about limited oversight, potential waste of taxpayer dollars and a regulatory wild west contracting despite projects being 12 years and $800 million in the making. Officials defend the actions as necessary, but the government could face significant reimbursement costs for the terminated projects, in addition to the expense of new ones. And finally, Instagram is developing an internal prototype feature called Pix to help users discover shared interests. This feature, spotted by reverse engineer Alessandro Pelosi, allows users to select their favorite movies for books, TV shows, games and music, then identifies overlaps with friends who have chosen the same items. While details are scarce, Instagram likely intends pics to foster deeper connections and conversations among friends, aligning with Adam Mosseri's 2025 focus on creativity and connection. However, following the backlash from the Instagram map launch, some users may view pics as another unnecessary addition to an already feature rich app, and its official release date remains uncertain.
