Apple unveiled the iPhone 16e on Wednesday, featuring a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID and the best battery life for a 6.1-inch iPhone. It also has Apple's first in house, 5G modem. The C1 chip starts at $599 for 128 gigabyte models and supports Apple Intelligence and advanced photo editing tools. Pre orders start February 21. Availability starts February 28. Apple also discontinued the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 Plus. On Tuesday, HP announced its acquired AI wearable startup Humane, known for its AI PIN device for 116 million DOL, which also buys 300 patents and some personnel. The AI pinned cloud services will be discontinued on February 28 and refunds are said to be issued for recent purchases and subscription plans. Humane's founders will lead a new division called HPIQ, focused on integrating AI into HP's printers and PCs. Bloomberg sources say that Niantic, well known for Ingress and Pokemon Go, is reportedly looking to sell its game development business to Scopely for for around $3.5 billion. Niantic found quite a bit of success with Pokemon Go, but its later titles struggled to reach the same scale, leading to layoffs and project cancellations in the last few years. The company has since shifted focus to geospatial technology and machine learning for real world mapping. Speaking to the Telegraph, Acer CEO Jason Chen says the company will probably increase U.S. laptop prices by 10% starting in March due to new U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports. So, for example, a model like the Acer Predator Triton would get a price hike from $3,799 to $4,178. Acer is exploring supply chains outside of China, including production in the US itself. Market intelligence company Crunchbase is relaunching as an AI powered prediction engine, shifting from historical data to real time market intelligence for investors, founders and innovators. The company was founded back in 2007 as a database service as part of the tech site TechCrunch before being spun off as a separate company in 2015. Tuesday, BlueSky added a followers only reply option in its version 1.98 update and a search post feature in its latest update for profiles so users have more control over their feeds and search functionality. Users can adjust this in settings. Instagram is upgrading DMs with new features like message translation in 99 different languages, scheduling pinned messages and music sharing. As a user, you can now schedule a Message up to 29 days ahead, pin up to three messages per chat and share 30 second music previews in group chats or broadcast channels. Instagram is also adding QR code invites for group chats, making its messaging system more competitive with iMessage and other chat apps, according to credit and debit card Data from Bloomberg. Second measure TikTok Shop outperformed Shen and Temu in U.S. sales in January. TikTok Shop sales increased by 153%. Shen and Temu grew too, but at a more conservative 26 and 28% respectively. TikTok's In App shopping feature launched in 2023 and has had particular success with transactions above $25. That's a category that Shen previously led. And finally today, Meta announced its first ever Llamacon, set for April 29th to showcase advancements in its open source llama AI models.
