Tech Headlines for Tuesday, May 27, 2025. I'm Rob Dunwood. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will likely unveil Solarium, a new software interface inspired by Vision OS, aiming for design consistency across iOS, iPadOs,macOS, WatchOS and TVOs at W DC in June, while Vision iOS will receive visual updates, other platforms will see more significant changes, particularly iPadOS and macOS, with potential multitasking improvements beyond stage manager. Apple is also anticipated to discuss AI features, including a battery saving Apple Intelligence function, a new health assistant, possible Google Gemini, integration with Siri, and potential third party access to Apple's LLMs. Amazon owned robo taxi service Zoox for the second time in a month, issued a voluntary software recall after an unoccupied vehicle in San Francisco was hit by an E scooter. This follows a previous recall due to a Las Vegas crash, both incidents raising concerns about the self driving software's ability to predict other road users movements. Android Auto will receive several updates beyond the integration of Google's Gemini Assistant. These changes include a revamped Spotify app featuring Spotify Jam for collaborative playlist control, support for quick share passkey integration, and a potential light mode ui. Additionally, new app categories are coming to Android Auto, with browser and video apps expected soon, joining already available beta gaming apps and officially out of beta weather apps. The browser company is considering selling or open sourcing its ARC browser to focus on dia, its new AI powered browser. Arc, despite its experimental charm, suffered from a novelty tax due to its complexity and lack of a cohesive feature set failing to appeal to a broad audience. While bug fixes and security updates continue for Ark, feature development has stopped open Sourcing Ark is challenging because it relies on the Ark Development Kit, the core of dia, and the company is hesitant to reveal that ip, although it remains a future possibility. DIA is currently in alpha testing with no firm release date. Tsmc, the world's leading contract chip maker, announced plans to establish a chip Design center in Munich, Germany, slated to open in the third quarter of 2025. As revealed by Paul Debatt, President of TSMC Europe, at the company's 2025 Technology Symposium, the Munich Design center will assist European clients in creating high density, high performance and energy efficient chips for the automotive, industrial, AI and IoT sectors. This move complements TSC's ongoing collaboration with Infineon, NXP and Robert Bosch in the construction of a new microchip manufacturing facility in Dresden, Germany, known as the European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. Salesforce is acquiring Informatica for $8 billion to bolster its AI efforts by integrating Informatica's data with Salesforce's Agent Force platform. This integration is intended to create more reliable AI agents with better data comprehension. Informatica shareholders will receive $25 per share following the announcement. Salesforce shares Rose by nearly 1% and Informatica stock increased by over 5%. Apple released data highlighting the App Store's success in fraud prevention, having blocked over $9 billion in fraudulent transactions in the last five years, including $2 billion in 2024 alone. Additionally, nearly 2 million DO and potentially risky apps were prevented from release in 2024. This announcement arrives before WWDC 25, showcasing the benefits of App Store distribution and the complexities of independent mobile payment management for developers. Finally, people are increasingly asking ChatGPT for brutally honest assessments of their appearance, a trend highlighting a desire for objective feedback that friends might soften. Unlike humans, the AI offers inspiring critiques and even glow up plans, sometimes recommending specific beauty products or procedures. While users apprec the perceived impartiality, experts warn of hidden biases in the AI's training data, potentially reinforcing harmful beauty standards and driving consumerism through product recommendations.
