Dolby launched Dolby Vision 2, an upgrade to its HDR format that uses AI to optimize picture quality based on content, device and viewing environment precision. Black is meant for clearer dark scenes, Light Sense is for better brightness in varied lighting and Authentic Motion is a guided motion smoothing tool meant to reduce judder without that Soap Opera effect. Hisense will launch the first TVs with the format which with broader adoption expected soon. OpenAI announced it's adding new safety measures to ChatGPT. The company says it will soon route sensitive conversations to GPT5 reasoning models to better handle signs of distress and introduce parental controls that let parents link accounts, disable features like memory, and receive alerts if a teen appears at risk. This is part of a 120 day safety initiative developed with medical and wellbeing experts. Amazon plans to end prime free shipping sharing outside the household on October 1st. Members will only be able to share benefits through Amazon Family, which requires all parties to live at the same address. Those who don't qualify will be pushed to sign up for their own prime membership at a heavily discounted 14.99 for the first year. The US has revoked TSMC's fast track export status for its Nanjing, China facility, meaning that shipments of US made chip making tools will require individual licenses starting December 31st. This is part of the US's tightening controls on China's semiconductor access, which could slow TSMC's equipment deliveries and limit future upgrades. Similar waivers for Samsung and SK Hynix are set to expire in the coming months. Google is rolling out an update to Google Play Games that will make user profiles more social and transparent. Similar to Steam starting September 23rd globally and October 1st in the EU and UK, profiles will automatically display game stats, progress and achievements, along with new customization and community building tools. These profiles will also appear directly in the Google Play Store, so users won't need to switch apps to manage accounts. Google is also reigning in YouTube premium family plan sharing pausing benefits for members who don't live in the same household as the account manager. This rule has always existed, but Google will now require periodic electronic check ins. The $23 per month plan allows up to five members. Google is also testing two person premium subscriptions in select markets A little bit more Google News Today the company dismissed claims that 2.5 billion Gmail users were at risk from a major attack, calling them entirely false. The rumors appear to have stemmed from a Salesforce related breach tied to Shiny Hunters, which led to phishing and vishing attacks. But Google says Gmail itself was never compromised, adding that its protections block 99.9% of such threats and urged users to remain vigilant against scams. And finally today, Jaguar Land Rover says a cyber attack has severely disrupted its production and retail systems, forcing the company to shut down operations at sites including its Solihull plant in the uk. The automaker stressed there's no evidence customer data has been stolen and is working to restore systems, but offered no timeline or details on the type of attack.
