Google launched an experimental Reasoning AI model, Gemini 2.0 Flash, thinking in the Gemini app As part of a broader Gemini 2.0 rollout, including the flagship Gemini 2.0 Pro, Google announced a $75 billion investment in AI for 2024 that was a big jump from 32.3 billion in 2023. Google also introduced the cost efficient Gemini 2.0 flashlight and expanded developer access to Gemini 2.0 flash via AI Studio and Vertex AI Voldax has acquired the popular Roblox game Brookhaven, expanding its user base to over 145 million monthly players. Brookhaven was created by Wolfpack in 2020 and is one of Roblox's top games, claiming 60 billion visits and 120 million active players. Voldex's other titles include Driving Empire and NFL Universe Football. New data from Gartner shows that global Semiconductor revenue reached $626 billion in 2024. That's up 18.1% over 2023, largely due to strong demand for GPUs and AI processors in data centers. Samsung took back the top spot from intel with $66.5 billion in revenue. Nvidia rose to third place with 84% growth, or $46 billion, and memory revenue grew 71.8%, fueled by high bandwidth memory, which Gartner projects will rise 66.3% in 2025, with an expected total semiconductor revenue of $705 billion. Robotics company figure AI develops general purpose humanoid robots On Wednesday, the company announced it's ending its partnership with OpenAI to focus on its in house AI following what it says is a major breakthrough. OpenAI has been a key investor in Figure AI and previously planned to integrate its models into figures robots. Apple introduced a new app called Invites on Tuesday, meant to help iCloud plus users plan events like a birthday party, a graduation, maybe a vacation, someone's baby shower. The app integrates features from iPhone, iCloud and Apple Music to simplify event planning and also enhance shared experiences. But you do have to be an iCloud+ user so the app isn't actually free. Chainalysis reports that in 2024 global ransomware payments dropped by 35% to 803.55 million due to stronger law enforcement actions, international cooperation and some victims just refusing to pay. Attackers adapted with faster operations, new ransomware strains like Akira and Fog and a rise in data leak sites despite fewer actual payments. Some big disruptions like the takedown of Lock Bit and Black Cat's Exit scam fragmented the ransomware ecosystem, but evolving laundering tactics shifted away from mixers towards cross chain bridges and centralized exchanges. Fujifilm's new FP Zuh 6000 Ultra Short Throw projector features a rotating articulated lens that can pivot 90 degrees and rotate 360 degrees. This is designed to be able to project an image on a wall or ceiling a floor without having to move the actual unit. It has 6,000 lumens of brightness, 4K resolution and offers various installation options so it could be a fancy home theater, but it could also work in something like a museum or other commercial space. We don't have pricing or availability just yet. And finally today, Bloomberg reports that Uber app users in Austin, Texas can now join an interest list for upcoming Waymo autonomous rides set to launch in a 37 square mile area in the area soon. Uber previously sold off its Advanced Technologies Group to aurora back in 2020 and later partnered with Waymo for driverless rides and deliveries in Phoenix, Arizona. Waymo is partnering exclusively with Uber in Austin and also Atlanta, Georgia, but is keeping driverless rides exclusive to its own app in some markets like San Francisco and Los Angeles.
