These are the daily tech headlines for the week ending Saturday, February 7, 2026. I'm Sarah Lane. We've got some breaking news and essential news over the past six several days. Waymo said it's using DeepMind's Genie 3AI model to build a new world model that generates realistic virtual driving environments, letting its robo taxis train on rare or dangerous scenarios without having to rely only on real world data. The system can create synthetic camera and lidar data or convert dash cam footage into simulated scenes, which Wayo says should help it expand into more cities. Competitors like Nvidia Wave and Tesla are also developing simulation tools, according to a civil subpoena reviewed by the Wall Street Journal. The Justice Department is looking into whether Netflix has engaged in anti competitive tactics as part of its review of the company's proposed $72 billion acquisition of Warner Discovery Studios and HBO Max. Investigators are asking whether the deal could entrench monopoly power while also reviewing rival bids from Paramount. Google plans to expand its Apple compatible Quick Share feature Beyond the Pixel 10 this year, allowing two way file sharing with iPhones, iPads and Macs to more Android devices. Android VP Eric K said the company is working with partners to roll it out across the broader ecosystem after testing it on Pixel phones, with announcements expected soon. Crypto.com CEO Chris Marzalek has bought the AI.com domain for around $70 million, possibly the largest domain purchase ever, according to the Financial Times. Marzilec is also launching a new AI agent platform under the same name, meant to create private AI agents that can send messages, build projects, trade stocks and handle tasks. The site is set to debut after a Super bowl ad pitching a decentralized network of billions of self improving agents. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman Sources say Apple is working on support for third party AI chatbots inside CarPlay, which could let drivers interact with services like ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude through the INCAR interface. The move would extend voice controls beyond Siri and bring outside AI assistance into both standard CarPlay and the more integrated CarPlay Ultra system. German also reports Apple has scaled back its Health plus AI health coach after a leadership shift under services chief Eddie Q, who saw the original plan as up uncompetitive. The project was supposed to act like a virtual doctor, tracking diet and correcting workout form, but those features are expected to be folded into the existing health app over time. Apple is also said to be building a temporary AI health chatbot until next gen. Siri is ready to handle those kinds of requests. The European Commission says TikTok deliberately designed addictive features like Infinite Scroll, Autoplay and its recommendation engine, which without considering risks to minors and vulnerable users. Regulators want TikTok to disable Infinite scroll, add screen time breaks and overhaul its recommendation system. TikTok says the findings are false and meritless. The commission noted existing screen time tools and parental controls are insufficient. Confirmed breaches of the EU's Digital Services act could bring fines up to 6% of global revenue. Egypt's regulators are moving to ban roadblocks over children's exposure to potentially harmful content. The Supreme Council for Media Regulation will coordinate the ban with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, citing protecting children's moral and educational values and reducing psychological risks. New York lawmakers have proposed a three year moratorium on data center development, joining at least five other states in recent weeks pushing similar pauses. The measures are getting bipartisan support, citing concerns ranging from climate impact to rising energy costs. The trend reflects growing scrutiny over the rapid expansion of data centers and their environmental and economic effects. Starting with Crew 12 and Artemis 2 NASA astronauts will for the first time be able to bring and use their personal smartphones in space. NASA administrator Jared Isaacman announced the change, saying it will let crews more easily capture and share photos and videos with modern devices like iPhones and Android phones instead of relying on old gear. This is a first for NASA missions, although private astronaut flights have already allowed personal smartphones on board.
