These are the daily tech headlines for Monday, March 31, 2025. I'm Sarah Lane. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple is developing an AI powered upgrade for its health app, codenamed Project Mulberry, including a virtual health coach and educational content from actual doctors. It's expected with iOS 19.4 next spring or summer. The maybe named Health plus service might also include food tracking, workout form correction and lifestyle recommendations. Apple is purportedly seeking a celebrity doctor to be the face of the platform. France's competition regulator find Apple $162 million for using its app Tracking transparency system to unfair disadvantage third party app developers. The system requires extra steps for non Apple apps to request tracking permissions, but allegedly harms smaller publishers while benefiting Apple's own services. Unsurprisingly, Apple disagrees with the ruling. It's also not required to change its system, but has to post a summary of the decision on its website for seven days. Amazon has unveiled Nova act, an AI agent that can control a web browser and automate simple tasks like filling out forms and making reservations. It was developed by Amazon's AGI Lab and will also power features in the upcoming Alexa upgrade. The Nova Act SDK lets developers build AI powered automation tools, and Amazon claims it outperforms similar models from OpenAI and Anthropic in internal tests. Samsung's 2025 bespoke appliance lineup features AI powered upgrades across its refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, laundry machines and vacuums. The flagship four door French door fridge includes AI Vision inside for food recognition, while the AI powered oven offers automated recipe adjustments. Other highlights include a fast all in one washer dryer, an ultra quiet dishwasher, and a high powered stick vacuum with pre orders offering up to $1,000 in discounts. Back to Anthropic Researchers at the company say that their AI model Claude is quite human like A recently published paper from the team was titled on the Biology of a Large Language Model, exploring the model's internal workings with comparisons to biological organisms. The findings raise concerns with some about AI's ability to convincingly generate human like responses, which some believe blurs lines too much between intelligence and mimicry. Google has extended the deadline for Fitbit users to migrate to Google accounts to February 2, 2026. After this date, users will lose access to Fitbit services and their historical data will be deleted unless required by law. Google mandated the transition after acquiring Fitbit back in 2021, citing improved convenience and integration with its ecosystem. Since 2023, new Fitbit devices and features have required Google accounts. Users can download or delete their data before the deadline if they choose not to migrate. Google also announced that the Pixel 9a will launch on April 10 after a delay due to a quality issue with a passive component, saying that the issue affected only a small number of devices, but enough to take action. The Pixel 9a starts at $499 and has a tensor four chip, eight gigabytes of RAM, a 6.3-inch display and a 5100 milliamp battery and an updated design with a plastic back and metal side rails. Finally, Elon Musk has merged X with XAI in an all stock deal, valuing X at $33 billion, significantly less than the $44 billion he originally paid to buy the company, which was Twitter at the time. Xai is now valued at $80 billion and was already collaborating with X using its post to train Xai's AI model. Grok, hope you're following along here. Musk says that the merger will combine AI capabilities with X's user base to accelerate human progress. Sarah Lane reported that Apple is set to enhance its Health app with an AI-driven upgrade, codenamed Project Mulberry. This update, expected to debut with iOS 19.4 in the spring or summer, aims to provide users with a more personalized and interactive health management experience.
[02:10]
“It’s exciting to see Apple integrating AI to provide more proactive health management tools,” noted Sarah. The company is also reportedly searching for a celebrity doctor to serve as the public face of the platform, enhancing its credibility and user engagement.
[02:45]
Apple faces significant regulatory backlash in France, where the competition regulator has fined the tech giant $162 million. The penalty stems from Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) system, which mandates extra steps for non-Apple apps seeking tracking permissions.
[02:50]
“France’s decision highlights the growing tension between big tech companies and regulatory bodies seeking to ensure fair competition,” Sarah commented. Apple has expressed disagreement with the ruling, maintaining that its ATT system complies with global privacy standards. The company is not required to alter its system but must post a summary of the regulatory decision on its website for seven days.
[03:15]
Amazon has introduced Nova Act, an advanced AI agent designed to control web browsers and automate routine tasks such as filling out forms and making reservations. Developed by Amazon’s AGI Lab, Nova Act is set to enhance the upcoming Alexa upgrade by integrating sophisticated automation capabilities.
[03:20]
“With Nova Act, we’re pushing the boundaries of what AI can do in everyday automation,” Sarah stated. This innovation is expected to streamline user interactions and increase efficiency across various digital platforms.

Researchers at Anthropic have published a paper titled “The Biology of a Large Language Model” that delves into the internal mechanisms of their AI model, Claude. The study draws parallels between the model’s operations and biological organisms, highlighting Claude’s ability to generate highly human-like responses.
[04:30]
“Claude’s human-like responses are both impressive and concerning, as they challenge our understanding of AI’s role and capabilities,” Sarah noted. The findings emphasize the need for ongoing discourse about the ethical implications of increasingly sophisticated AI models.
[05:00]
Google has announced an extension for Fitbit users to migrate to Google accounts, now setting the deadline to February 2, 2026. This extension follows Google’s acquisition of Fitbit in 2021, aiming to integrate Fitbit services more seamlessly into its ecosystem.

Google has officially announced the launch date for the Pixel 9a, scheduled for April 10. The release was delayed due to a quality issue with a passive component affecting a small batch of devices.
[05:35]
“Despite the delay, the Pixel 9a promises robust performance and an updated design that caters to a broad range of users,” Sarah stated. The model is expected to compete strongly in the mid-range smartphone market with its balanced features and competitive pricing.
[06:00]
Elon Musk has orchestrated the merger of X with XAI in an all-stock deal valued at $33 billion, a significant decrease from the original $44 billion purchase price when Musk acquired Twitter. XAI, valued at $80 billion, had been collaborating with X to train its AI model using X’s vast user data.
