These are the Daily Tech Headlines for Monday, August 18, 2025. I'm Sarah Lane. Bloomberg sources say that Metta may unveil its next gen Hyper Nova Smart glasses in September. Priced around $800, which is cheaper than previously rumored. Unlike the current Ray Ban line, hypernova adds a small AR display in the right lens for mini apps and alerts. Controlled via Meta's Neural input wristband, the glasses are meant to balance affordability and capability by cutting margins with prescriptions or style upgrades. Adding to the cost, Grammarly introduced nine new AI agents in its Docs platform to help students and educators with writing and grading tools. Include an AI grader for students that can predict a paper score, citations and proofreading support, and also reader feedback. Pro users also get plagiarism detection and AI authorship checks. Enterprise and education rollout is planned later this year. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Buds 3 FE, a $150 pair of earbuds launching September 4th. The new model features improved ANC, upgraded audio with larger speakers, support for 360 audio, customizable EQ and better call quality. They come in black or gray with IP54 water resistance. Battery life is up to 6 hours with ANC, plus 24 to 30 hours from the case. Extras include auto switch between Galaxy devices, AI integration with Gemini and USB C charging. All right, a bit of Google news the company has agreed to pay $36 million to settle an Australian antitrust case over deals with Telstra and Optus that required Google Search to be pre installed on Android devices in exchange for ad revenue sharing. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said that the agreements, which were in place from 2019 through 2021, unlawfully reduced competition by blocking rival search engines. Google now awaits court approval. A joint survey between Google Cloud and Harris Poll found found that 87% of game developers are using AI agents in their workflows, with 97% saying generative AI is reshaping the industry. Developers say that benefits include faster play testing, localization and code generation, but concerns continue over data ownership, licensing and player privacy. Google is also testing a new projects feature in Gemini, letting users upload files, documents or code and have Gemini reference them in conversations to generate new documents or coat. The tool acts as a workspace for grouping related tasks. Expected to launch first for enterprise users. Google is also developing Gemini 3, said to be its most powerful model yet, and recently released Genie 3, a DeepMind system that can turn text prompts into real time interactive simulated words at 720p 24 frames per second with consistent physics. OpenAI is upgrading ChatGPT's voice mode with new controls, including a voice speed slider and a custom instructions prefix so users don't need to repeat preferences each session. The update also adds an improved model selector with access to new GPT5 modes, High, Fast and Auto, and restores GPT4O for paid users. And finally, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had an on the record dinner between with tech journalists last Thursday. Altman admitted the company shouldn't have gotten rid of the older models of ChatGPT when they launched five. He also says he thinks AI investing is insane and irrational and worries that smaller companies will prioritize engagement over usefulness in their products.
