The company's defenders say commercial US Frontier models weren't useful for incident response because safety guardrails blocked requests involving real attack commands, exploit payloads and command and control artifacts. So Hugging Face ran China's Open Weight GLM 5.2 model on their own infrastructure to analyze more than 17,000 attacker logs and is now telling customers to rotate access tokens or while it continues checking whether partner or customer data was affected the information sources say Google is now planning a new AI chip meant to run Gemini models more efficiently. It's reportedly designed to bake more of Gemini model architecture directly into the hardware, which would help Google lower the cost of serving AI inside its own cloud. It also keeps Google pushing its TPU strategy at a time when Nvidia is still top dog in in AI accelerators and big cloud companies are trying to control more of their own AI infrastructure costs. China's passenger car market is on track for its worst year since 2021. Sales fell 20.2% in the first half of 2026 to 8.7 million units, with internal combustion or ICE vehicles down 39% in June and industry profit margins falling to 3.4%. Exports seem to be a lifeline here, up 82.3% year over year in June, but analysts expect a serious shakeout with only several Chinese automakers surviving long term. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple's trade secrets lawsuit against OpenAI does not name Johnny I've, even though I've is the public face of OpenAI's hardware push. The likely reason is that Apple's complaint focuses more on alleged recruiting and operations and hardware information flows tied to people like OpenAI hardware chief Tang Tan, not I've's design role. Gurman also reports that Apple is piloting a genius bar tool called Live Notes that records, transcribes and summarizes customer conversations, which is already raising obvious employee monitoring questions. Microsoft will stop OneDrive sync app support for older Windows 10 versions of on August 15th. Windows 10 22H2 will keep getting OneDrive updates until October of 2028, but earlier versions will lose client updates, fixes, security patches and tech support. Mozilla is speeding up Firefox releases, at least as an experiment. Firefox Desktop and Android will move from a four week release cycle to a two week cycle starting in September with Firefox 155, now targeted for September 1st instead of the 15th. Mozilla says unfinished features should not be rushed and the extended support release schedule should stay annual. Microsoft is expanding its use of AMD's AI hardware, including the company's Helios Rackscale platform and EPYC data Center processors inside Azure. That's a useful vote of confidence for AMD as it tries to compete with Nvidia in AI infrastructure, and it gives Microsoft another option alongside Nvidia GPUs and its own Maya chips. AMD says Helios is expected in the second half of 2026. Microsoft didn't offer financial terms of this new agreement and finally today, Alibaba has previewed Quinn 3.8 max, a 2.4 trillion parameter AI model it says is comparable to Leading Frontier models and second only to Anthropics Claude Fable 5. The preview is available through Alibaba's token plan subscription service and its coder and coder work agentic platforms. Alibaba also says open weights are coming soon. This is all happening at Shanghai's World AI Conference and shows Chinese labs pushing into the multi trillion parameter race, though Alibaba hasn't published the kind of benchmark detail that buyers would need to fully judge the model.
