Instagram is reportedly considering spinning its Reels feature into a standalone short form video app to compete with Tic Tac, which is facing an uncertain future in the United States. The information reports that Instagram head Adam Mossary was overheard discussing the plans with staff this week. The Reels app is reported of a Meta initiative codenamed Project Ray, which aims to improve Instagram's content recommendations and introduce more 3 minute long reels videos to users in the U.S. amazon Web Services has unveiled Ocelot, its first quantum computing chip. AWS has invested in Quantum computing since 2019, when it launched its bracket Quantum Computing as a service in partnership with companies including Quera and Rigetti. The launch of Oslo brings AWS in line with its major cloud rivals including Microsoft and Google, which have also recently launched quantum computing chips. Meta platforms resolved an error on Thursday that had flooded Instagram users personal Reels feeds worldwide with violent and graphic videos. The glitch affected an unknown number of users and followed a wave of complaints on social media about violent and not safe for work content in Reels feeds, despite some users having enabled the sensitive content control setting. A spokesperson for Meta apologized for the mistake and stated that the error causing the users to see content in their Instagram Reels feed that should not have been recommended had been fixed. Stripe has yet to announce any plans to go public, but the digital payments platform is offering past and present employees some liquidity through a tender offer, allowing investors to purchase their shares at a $91.5 billion valuation, with Stripe also repurchasing shares as part of the deal. While the company declined to specify participants in the secondary round, a spokesperson confirmed that it consists largely of existing investors, which, according to PitchBook data, include General Catalyst, GV, Silverlake, Atomico, Elon, Musk, Salesforce and many among its more than 150 backers. Huawei Technologies has announced a March launch for a new smartphone featuring its Harmony OS Next platform. This device, first developed specifically for the Harmony OS Next ecosystem, will demonstrate advancements in hardware, software and its application ecosystem, according to Richard Yu Shendog, chairman of Huawei's Consumer Business Group. Major Chinese tech companies including Tencent, Bytedance, Alibaba and Metuon are reportedly adjusting their applications for compatibility with harmony os next. YouTube reports that podcasts now attract 1 billion monthly active viewers, highlighting the platform's vast scale and growth potential as it enters its third decade. This figure is based on data showing that over 400 million hours of podcasts were watched monthly on Living room devices in 2024. The Google owned video giant has also claimed to be the most frequently used podcast platform in the United States. EBay has announced updates to its platform aimed at improving buyer experience and making it easier to find fast shipping and local items. These UPD include displaying delivery range estimates for fast shipping items on search item cards, adding a shipping and pickup filter and find items with fast shipping times or local pickup options, and showing the driving time to an item's location on the item cards. Uber has launched a new ride sharing service in Assam, India, allowing private car owners to operate as drivers using the Uber app. This is Uber's first initiative in India to allow vehicles with white number plates, which are typically private vehicles, to operate as taxis. The initial rollout will feature women and army veterans as drivers to promote inclusivity. Uber hopes to use this pilot project to encourage other Indian states to allow private vehicles for ride sharing purposes. This model, while common in the US and uk, is new to India and faces opposition from unions and challenges in gaining approval in other states. And finally, Google Search now allows you to remove your personal information directly from search results and the process is surprisingly fast. Simply search for your contact details such as your phone number, and locate the result containing your personal data Click the three dots next to the result and select Remove Result from the menu. You'll then be prompted to specify the reason for the removal.
